Whats your honest opinion aboutnthe fandoms love for sonic and tails brotherly bonding biven that canon is not as strong on that regard
sorry for waiting like. months. to answer this question i’ve been pondering the best way to answer this for literally. months.
i guess the thing is i’ve never really thought about the domesticity of their relationship? a lot of fan things that depict them as brothers are very domestic, the little interactions between them living together and all that. sonic brushing tails’s fur. sonic telling tails to eat his vegetables. them shopping together. things like that. like, i do think they are brothers, and that they view themself as brothers, but i guess i don’t see them as conventional brothers? i’m not quite sure how to articulate this. like they ARE brothers, and they care about each other, and have a different sort of relationship than knuckles and sonic, and sonic and amy, and sonic and cream. but i wouldnt say they’d be anything like ed and al from fma. hm. it took literally thirty years to hear sonic call tails his brother in a game.
like, when i think of them, i’m inclined to think of my sister and i’s relationship. we’re about six years apart, no siblings in between. we love each other a lot, but we don’t see each other a whole lot, because we’re just in super different parts of our lives. i don’t live with her, but i’ll crash on her couch every once in a while. i don’t see her often. i am excited to see her when she visits.
so like, i think sonic did raise tails, in a sense. i think sonic probably took care of him when they first started hanging out and tails was literally just four years old. but sonic’s independent by nature and older by a good chunk of years, and i don’t really think he’d actually enjoy taking care of someone. sonic CARES and loves tails but i would not say he’s a nurturer, and he doesn’t want to be tied down. so once tails got a workshop, assumedly around sonic adventure (at least, a stable one), sonic ditched. i don’t think the two of them live together. sonic’s literally homeless and loves to wander the world for like, months on end. i don’t think sonic and tails do chores together. i don’t think sonic’s at tails’s workshop for long periods of time. maybe to crash on his couch and read a book every once in a while.
sonic visits, yeah, but i also think there’s just long periods of time where they don’t see each other. early sonic games from adventure to the “dark” era of sonic games indicate they don’t see each other for long periods of time (”long time no see!”) and when they do see each other, its often because of a new scheme from eggman or a danger to the world. like, sonic 06- they didn’t even plan on meeting each other, they just happened to cross paths.
i don’t know if this particularly makes sense. i just don’t really see them being particularly domestic together. neither of them are conventional people, and sonic especially is the type to enjoy alone time and adventuring; tails is a little more inclined to stay in place so he can work on his new machines, traveling usually for research or to help sonic. they’ve got different motivations and hobbies so i think they don’t actually spend a lot of time together. it’s probably similar to how much time sonic and knuckles spend together, since knuckles is almost always stuck on angel island with the master emerald.
(plus, if we consider the timeline sega’s been trying to tell us, where every game seems to happen in the span of a year, and tails has always been eight and sonic’s always been 15, or something similar, where tails isn’t a literal toddler when they meet, i really don’t see them doing anything domestic together at all. sonic’s always on the road and tails is off doing inventing or occasionally helping sonic out. if tails wasn’t four-ish when they meet, i don’t really think sonic would... like, take care of him the same way a “parent” would. amy rents her own house in station square, and she’s like twelve. it seems to be the norm, at least in our perspective, that young mobians are allowed to be left to their own devices; like, we still don’t know what’s up with charmy and the chaotix. sure, he could ahve been adopted by vector i suppose, or are his parents just super chill with him hanging out with a bunch of detectives? lmao. and besides, tails is a pretty smart cookie. he really can take care of himself, and sonic would just leave him be since he seems “old enough”, at least in the sonic world, to do so.)

i still can’t believe it took until frontiers for sonic to call tails little bro in-game
sonic and tails being siblings in the games is a thing thats been brought up/hinted at before but mostly in character profiles and such not onscreen... my guess is that game sonic finally calling tails little bro in frontiers has to do with ian flynn helping write the english script for that game. hes not the person who came up with the idea of sonic and tails being brothers or sonic calling tails little bro but it Is a common thing in the comics hes written from what i remember. plus one of the things thats brought up somewhat often in the story of sonic frontiers is family so it makes sense that theyre pushing sonic and tails being siblings a bit harder than usual here

Man I wanna watch Sonic Prime and I want to talk about it with people but my mental health isn't ready for the
"Nine is so much better than Tails!
"This is what Tails should be!"
"Can we get this Tails in the games ahaha"
It's just. Upsetting. Maybe I'm a little jealous. Maybe more than a little. Tails always gets the short end of the stick. Why can't we he have emotional character arcs and character development? He's not a boring character, he's just severely underused. He's only used for Sonic to play off of and to provide exposition. This is especially bad in idw. Tails is always around but the only things he's used for are being Sonic's little yes man and "aww isn't it cute that he's doing the same pose as Sonic, they're so brothers uwu", but when the time comes for any interesting plots or emotional development? Lol. Well Tails is around a lot, it's time to give other characters spotlight! As if he gets any. He only has like 3 relevant moments in the entire series, for the majority of it he could be replaced by a magic box that spews out exposition and fixes up robots.
And he's the least developed game character in the scu, and you can't say it's because he's got nothing to work off, because. They literally gave Sonic his backstory in the first movie. (And because of that they were able to bond easily, but it also makes Tails feel very redundant)
But at least he's cute I guess

Sndndjdf sorry I’m just all over ur dash recently
But some Kelek stuff below cut
I mentioned in the tags of another post that I was considering making Kelek’s creature version more of a surface monster which works perfectly tbh.
I envision the surface monsters of his au as monsters that for whatever reason didn’t get to the mountain. Their cultures and stuff changed as a response to the war and fear.
Since humans fought and sealed monsters out of fear for their Souls (simplified) - the surface monsters stopped communicating through encounters and direct interaction with the soul. After a few centuries the surface monsters don’t really know what an encounter is or how to pull their souls out. Their understanding of the soul is very rudimentary. (Like being able to feel their own, knowing that’s where their magic comes from, and that it affects reproduction)
Initially for safety, quite a few surface monsters developed magic for disguises which they then taught to others and developed into magic items to help. These are still mostly used for safety but sometimes mischief makers are about.
Comfys in particular almost never unmask after puberty. (They usually grow up rural since they’re quadrupedal until early puberty and so masking doesn’t work). This is due to their innate fear of humans seeing their true forms (and the spiraling possible consequences).
Since this sort of culture has developed for centuries it’s hard for some of the surface monsters to drop their masks and contact the underground monsters once freed. It doesn’t help that in Kelek’s au the post-pacifist surface has tense relations.
—
Kelek actually likes his human mask and finds some things easier in it (like maintaining his hairstyle lmao). He does like his natural form as well. He probably hasn’t considered the idea of being able to be in his natural form most of the time as opposed to the inverse.
—
Which of course a lot of this makes me think of him and Snaps lmao. Part of this is considering why he wouldn’t unmask for Snaps at first (take him a while to feel comfortable and safe to do it and then he just feels torn for keeping a secret).
And I think it’s cute to imagine Snaps slowly taking Kelek out places with him in his natural form. (It would have to be away from where Kelek lives though since he doesn’t want to be found out (it’s for his safety along with others in his local surface mon community).
Djddjrjr. I’ll stopnow

Spinel looked at herself in the Mirror, a soft hum leaving her as she looked herself over - noticing a little shift of something behind her. She turned around, still glancing at the mirror, before noticing a new addition to her form - A little Rabbit's tail, which lightly shook in response to Spinel's suprise.
"Uhh... Maxie?"
Spinel called for her beloved,
"When did i get a bunny tail?"
"Oh, That? Blame Void."
Maxim called from another room with an amused, dismissive tone.
Hm. That Bunny-boy and that other Spinel did visit the Mansion recently, and they all had a fun time together. It was rather amusing seeing her beloved be flustered by both herself and that other self. Come to think of it, that other self did have more Bunny-like features as well, even heard Maxim mention how cute the bunny tail of her's is...
Mayby the bond shared between herself and Maxim thanks to his Blood has certain effects yet to be understood, still... Hm.
Though all the same, she doesnt really mind the new addition all that much, actually. If anything, it makes her look Cuter.
She shrugged it off. Its not a Life Changing thing, so it should be fine enough.

I was humoring an idea I’d had for The Q and the Grey where like,,,,,
Whilst Q is attempting to entice Kathryn into mating with him, Chakotay and Miss Q are conspiring together to prevent that from occurring. And likeeeee, I guess the idea was that they’re gonna make Kathryn look “normal” again and have Chakotay sacrificially take on the evolved look for her; and that in seeing what he’s done for her, she’d ideally be swayed to go to him as opposed to Q. Which ironically DOES WORK, but not in the way they intended.
Alternatively, it could be seen as Q makes Kathryn “human” if only temporarily, and Miss Q evolves Chakotay thinking his new appearance would sway Kathryn.
I think I prefer the former only because I like the idea of Chakotay having a little bit more agency in the dealings with the Q’s in an attempt to make Kathryn happy with herself again. Unbeknownst to him she already is. :)
