sleepover weekend!
Any unpopular - or just random/silly/fun - opinions about rwrb book and/or movie?
I don't know that mine are unpopular, but I'll give you 2 things each that i like and dislike about the book and movie.
Book Dislikes:
I don't think I'm alone in this but I think, as an author, if you're going to take away a queer person/couple's agency to come out on their terms and timeline, then you need to give them the agency to fight their battle and get what they want without someone swooping in at the last minute to be the savior. The whole Buckingham palace thing in the book just irritates me because it felt like just a way to make Catherine not be a passively mentioned character.
I actually hate Ellen in the book. She spends too much time looking at things as The President and not enough time looking at things as Mom. The whole powerpoint thing? I'd have unalived my mom if that had been her reaction when I told her I'm queer. I don't think that's endearing at all, so I wasn't sad about losing it in the movie.
Book Likes:
"Dear Thisbe, I wish there wasn't a wall." I totally get why this was cut from the movie, but it hits me in the heart every time I read the book.
The conversation with Alex and Bea at Kensington and "I love him on purpose." I love them both being protective of Henry in different ways.
Movie Dislikes
I hate everything about the opening until Alex and Henry start talking to each other. It all feels just out of place and awkward to me.
That Miguel gets the eyelashes line. I will die on this hill. THAT IS FOR HENRY AND HENRY ONLY. (bonus: also hate that that look for Alex was wasted on Miguel).
Movie Likes:
Obviously corresponding to my book dislikes above, I think Ellen is so much better in the movie, and she's more motherly and accepting of Alex's coming out. Even telling Alex to make sure he feels forever about Henry came from a motherly place and not from a president on the campaign trail. Also, Buckingham Palace is handled better by giving Henry the chance to fight his own battle. That, "Starting today, the world will see me as who I am, not who you want me to be" line gets me in the heart every damn time.
Seeing post lake scene and post email leaks from Henry's perspective and how isolating both situations actually are, with the post-leak situation being the most isolating.
BONUS: that Alex gave Henry the key so they each had part of each other.
Anyway, that took some thought so thanks for waiting friend!

Drabble: Sleeopver With Two Gods
It was early evening in Gravesfield. Vee had a sleepover with her little brother Colli. She was surprised to learn that the celestial boy had a counterpart from another universe. The other Collector was a bit mischievous, but otherwise, he seemed to care a lot about Colli. Vee's friends were just as surprised. It was easy to tell both starboys apart.
Colli had lavender hair and his counterpart's hair was white. "It's very nice to meet more of Colli's friends." The other Collector spoke up. "It's very nice to meet you as well!" Julie said softly. The Clawthorne-Noceda siblings had a good time with Vee's friends and The other Collector. Colli was the first one to fall asleep. "Awww!" Vee and her friends were cooing. The other Collector covered Colli with a blanket. "Goodnight, Colli." He whispered.

Bakugou.
Poor Aizawa is just trying to nap let the poor man sleep. Plus he’s just plain scary when he’s mad. Bakugou on the other hand… well his reaction would be hilarious. 100% worth being turned into a pile of ash for tbh

happy sleepover saturday!! what are your thoughts about the hadestown tour cast?
Hi Guess Who Just Saw The Tour Today And Whose Opinions Are Fresh On The Mind
the clear standout to me is Kevyn Morrow as Hades -- this is a tough role, and especially difficult to follow up from an originator as iconic/infamous as Patrick Page, but he really stood up to the challenge. you don't even miss the fact that he doesn't have quite as low a range, either, because he has such a compelling and intimidating gravitas to him, yet his emotional turn in act ii is so touching and believable. he's fantastic!!
Kimberly Marable as Persephone is beautiful and stunning this isn't a surprise to anyone who has eyes and ears and a brain
Nicholas Barasch and Morgan Siobhan Green make a really great duo as Orpheus and Eurydice. Barasch has a very fluid voice that sounds very clearly and well in the high register, and he has this adorable, almost goofy and childlike charm to his Orpheus. Green is almost everything i want in a Eurydice, i have no complaints, she's great. and the two have good chemistry together!
Levi Kreis as hermes surprised me! i liked how jazzy his voice and dance moves and overall mannerisms were. my only note is an extremely picky and preferential one, but i wish he had a little bit more low register to round out his tone, which is great (he has a great voice!) but skews high and imo could be a little rounder. but again i want to stress how much of a nitpick this is, he's genuinely good.
the fates and workers were all likewise fantastic. i simply must shoutout Will Mann as a worker, not because he stood out particularly from the rest of his crew but because he was also in Oklahoma! on broadway and he was very very sweet at the stage door when i saw that.
tl;dr: very good!! i like them more than the (original) broadway cast!!

OMG look at that handsome emperor! with his scar and all aaaaaaaaaaah! Now I'm even more excited for the livestream, that is really really beautiful! I didn't quite know what to request for sinday but now imma go right ahead and leave a prompt omg omg omg. But rn for sleeopver purposes I'll just say that it got me thinking of him having a comission of artists appointed to sculpt and paint him and the queen to adorn the halls of the palace
Ahh thank you! Here’s hoping I don’t make a total fool of myself in front of everyone on camera tomorrow lol! Omg yes yes yes he absolutely commissions artists to sculpt his likeness!! That’s actually something I was planning on talking about during the livestream, sort of a history lesson on the shift in context for statues in antiquity :))
