Part 3 (Following on from yesterday's 'moment' ..........)

That moment when ………. having seen just how down Ruben was over the break-up, John had given much thought about the best way to approach you, realising that strictly speaking it was none of his business, but also knowing he couldn’t just stand by and watch, without at least trying to help his close friend …….

............ he had decided that calling you on the mobile was not the best way forward, and thought he’d risk just turning up uninvited at your flat in the hope that seeing him there face to face, you would agree to talk to him ……….

……. to say you were surprised to see him when you opened your door in response to the knocking, was an understatement ………of course you knew John well as he was one of Ruben’s best friends, and as he stood there with a serious expression on his face, leaning on the door frame looking you straight in the eye, you knew exactly why he was there ……......

……....... no words were needed as you stood back to let him in, turning to walk back into your open plan apartment and hearing John close the door behind him ……….you dropped down onto your white leather sofa, hugging your knees close to your chest, looking down as John plonked his big frame down on the easy chair opposite ……. he let out a sigh and you still refused to look at him, knowing that if your eyes met his you would crumble ………  

……. he leaned forward and rested his elbows on his knees, trying to get you to look at him, but he could see you were already fighting off the tears ............... as had happened with Ruben, just the sound of his soothing voice asking what had gone wrong was enough for you to hide your face in your hands, sobs wracking your body as you tried to get the words out ……… John’s first instinct was to get to his feet, wrap you in his arms and comfort you, but he hesitated, wanting to give you chance to tell your side of the story ………..    

…. you grabbed a tissue from the drawer in the coffee table, trying to mop up the tears as they fell, failing miserably as your eyes finally met John’s, and you began to explain why you had to end what seemed to be the perfect relationship with Ruben ……….   

…….. John listened intently to you for about an hour, and when you were all cried out, he had given you a comforting hug, made you a coffee and tried to offer some words of support ………….. he could see that your unwillingness to bother Ruben with the hurt you were experiencing  at the hands of some ‘so called’ Ruben fans was what had pushed you to react so abruptly …………. you were having to contend with hurtful online trolling just because you were dating him, and the extent of it had all become too much ……… John knew there were specialist people at the club who could deal with that sort of acidic abuse …..…. and he also could see the reality was you were still very much in love with Ruben ……...... that love shone brightly in your eyes when you talked about him ……… it was the same love that twinkled in Ruben’s eyes when he mentioned you ………..

.......... John swept his hand through his curls, relief washing over him, as he realised that this break-up was actually fixable ............... and he was determined that for the sake of the happiness of his 'work bestie' and his girl, he was going to be the one to fix it …………
