i honestly do enjoy patti x doug but i just can’t shake off the headcanon that patti is somewhat on the ace/aro spectrum and idk if it’s just her vibes or me self projecting but that’s really how i feel.

Kaz Isn't Actually Motivated By Greed
Or at least, not primarily. Don't get me wrong, his stated primary driving factor is getting the money he was promised from Van Eck, but his reasoning isn't actually greed-based. Kaz's desire for money is goal-oriented and his fixation on it during the duology is fairness-based. He initially wants his share of the money because it will allow him to split from Per Haskell and start his revenge scheme over Pekka. He then pursues getting it with such zeal because Van Eck broke their deal and Kaz (rightly) feels cheated; Van Eck contracted him for a job, which he successfully completed, and then refused to pay him for it.
He fixates on destroying Van Eck because like Pekka Rollins, he broke his deal with Kaz and scammed him out of his money. It's the scamming and deal-breaking (and his inability to figure it out beforehand) that hit Kaz's pride and motivate him. If it were really just about the money, he could have gotten it any number of ways. But despite talking a big game about worshipping money and it being his primary motivating factor, he throws away an awful lot of opportunities to get and keep it during the duology:
He doesn't take the Ice Court job until he's shown the effects of parem and promised 30 million kruge (enough that when split he could realize his dreams of splitting from Haskell and taking out Rollins)
He gives up his shares in the Crow Club and Fifth Harbor to Pekka in order to rescue Inej and kickstart the Sugar Silo scheme
He doesn't abandon Inej after she's taken by Van Eck and sell Kuwei to the highest bidder, even though that would have been the most logical and lucrative option (as both Inej and Matthias think about)
He liquidates all of his existing financial assets to free Inej AND tells her where his emergency stash is so she and the rest of the Crows can get out of the city safely
He gives Rotty and Specht Per Haskell's share of the Ice Court Heist money (recognizing their loyalty and help) and Nina Matthias's share (to somewhat compensate her for her grief and honor Matthias's contributions) instead of keeping it for himself
He buys Inej a ship with part of HIS share of the money
And while several of the things he abandons money for are for Inej, to keep her safe and free and happy, the rest of the Crows and the Dregs at large benefit too. So do people he's probably never met. Pre-canon!Kaz fixed up the Slat with his own money so it's a safe-ish place for the Dregs to live, for example, and in Crooked Kingdom he totally goes along with Nina's plan to get all of Ketterdam's Grisha onto the boat to Ravka after a mostly token protest even though it massively complicates his plans.
It's pretty clear that no matter what he says, at the end of the day Kaz values loyalty, fairness, and keeping his promises more than he values money. The money is just a means to an end for him: he wants it because it will a) allow him to have an amount of safety and security for himself and the people he cares about (and those who have pledged their loyalty to him), b) let him keep his deals with and promises to said people, and c) give him the ability to one-up Pekka and destroy his empire.

Media The Artful Dodger
Character Jack Dawkins
Couple Jack X Reader
Rating Sweet + Fluffy
Tumblr media
Requested: literally, anything hurt/comfort or angst with a happy ending preferably Jack or newt but love your dnd au too Thank you love your writing ❤ Hello, could I request a Jack Dawkins x reader where maybe the reader gets in a fight or something over Jack and after he patches her up afterwards he is at first angry but after she tells him why she got into the fight he hold her close and it's fluffy and cute!
I stood, as usual, doing my work at the cat and bagpipes, men in the pub going about their business drinking, gambling, fighting and doing other such... manly things. Many of the girls I worked with were busy as they often were on Friday nights but I wasn't on that shift tonight, Instead, I was just serving and carting drinks around for My boss Rotty. I hurried about in my dress dropping things here and there as I went I noticed an empty tankard and the man to whom it belonged.
"Another Doctor Dawkins?" I asked as I collected some from the table beside his own,
"Uhhhhh no it's alright, Y/n." He said his face a little grim and tried as he pushed the tankard to the end of the table for me to collect it easily, I knew he wanted more but given his low pay or well lack of it he didn't exactly have a lot of cash to throw around on a Friday night, He would often come on a Friday night play some cards to get enough for a drink that he'd nurse a good while and then head home, he never saw the girls as he couldn't afford to even if I had offered him a discount more then once but he was such a gentleman and always politely declined.
"You sure? you sure nursed it,"
"It's been a long week,"
"Aww, one more? on me."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah sure, got to keep the doctor happy," I smiled as I took the tankard to refill it for him and I gave his cheek a pinch as I left which forced him to smile, I returned the empties and paid for Jack's drink out of my my tips from the evening,
"I don't know why you bother with him, he's not got any money you don't have to be nice to him." Mags said as she leant on the bar with her fan in hand,
"Magnolia," I glared as I loaded my tray, "Off it," I told her, as I took my tray and dropped off the drinks dropping Jack's off last,
"Thanks y/n." He smiled,
"You're welcome Jack," I cooed patting his blonde head as I tried to continue but he took my hand tugging me gently back to him and giving my hand a soft gentle kiss, "Awww that's my tip?"
"yeah, sorry..."
"I am more than happy to take my tips as such, just from you," I winked kissing his head before I got on with my work,
The night went off as usual dropping drinking where needed, seeing the regulars and the new guys in from a ship in port today, checking in on the card games and breaking up a few fights, I didn't mind actually I kinda prefer when I'm on this shift as you see people and have a much better evening with more going on, rather then on the other shift were you come out into the bar for five-ten minutes longer if someone wants you sat on their lap for a while the rest of the night your just laid on your back. And I just wasn't feeling it today which is fine Rotty didn't mind I think she knows I'm more a bar girl than a bed girl nowadays. I often passed Jack and gave him a smile which he often gave back, the girls didn't much bother with him as they all had a joke that Jack was 'Y/n's regular' even if we had never actually done anything it was just what they often referred to him as, none of them ever bothered because they knew he didn't have money so never much bothered to give him more then a smile unless of course he had been at the card tables winning as he often did, Then the girls would check up on him.
I returned to the bar cleaning some tankards when Jack approached, "Here," he smiled handing over his empty tankard,
"Aww thank you, you're the only one who doesn't just leave them," I laughed taking it back, "Another?"
"No, it's okay I need to get back."
"Course, have a nice night Doctor Dawkins,"
"You too y/n" He smiled kissing my hand before he headed out and off back to the hospital,
"he is cute," Mags smiled as she leant on the bar,
"Maybe," I shrug, trying to hide my blush at such a thought,
"Shame he's stoney broke."
"Mags," I warn,
"Ohh come on you can admit it he's a little lowlife"
"Mags." I warn louder,
"I mean everyone knows he's only a doctor because of the Navy, he's not smart enough to have gone to college like the other doctors."
"Magnolia," I warn,
"such a tiny little thing too, I bet we took his shirt off we could play a tune on his ribs."
"Magnolia, off it," I warn,
"at least as a doctor, he's got skilled quick fingers, 'cause he ain't doing much else with anything else."
"Magnolia enough."
"Really? Just cause you like him doesn't mean you have to lie, He's an uneducated scrawny little beggared"
"Mags!" I yelled setting my stuff down, "Enough."
"Fine," she smiled slowly moving away, "makes sense why he likes you so much, you're the only girl around here he can hope to afford." she smirked, "Or do you let him get off for free like his drinks?"
Okay, that's it! "Mag's Enough! you're a fucking whore you don't have cause to call anyone a lowlife!"
"I make more than he does!"
"Yeah lying on your back and letting men frost your stomach!" I yelled, "He saves people's lives, delivers babies, you know something actually worth doing!"
"Ohh come on you're only defending him because you like him!" she yelled back, "You ddin't have a crush on him we'd have kicked him out like we do every boy who hasn't the money to be worth anything! If you wanna go be some penniless doctor's housewife fine but don't waste a table on him that I- We could be making money on!"
"That's all you care about money!"
"Yes! So keep your poorper doctor boy in the gutter where he belongs!"
"Ughhh!" I yelled and pulled her hair, she screamed and shoved me into the bar.
Immediately it became an all-out fight and we weren't doing like a cute girl fight or even a cat fight this was a full-on bar brawl with chairs, tankards, punches, kicks, hair pulls, nails, slaps and at times biting, and when it was over we both needed a cart ride to the hospital for various injuries... and let's just say Rotty was not happy we were fighting, or breaking chairs, or tankards, and a window.
I was put in a room far away from Mags and I sat on the bed trying not to whine from pain,
"Y/n?" I heard making me look up to see Jack at the door he saw me and the state I was in for a second he looked heartbroken but then rage boiled behind his eyes,
"Hi, Jack,"
"What the bloody hell happened!"
"I can-"
"Who did this to you! what kind of sick twisted bastard did this to you!" He yelled,
"Jack please-"
"Who was it! I'll beat the living daylights out of them you just see if I won't" He yelled "Give me his name."
"Jack-"
"Give me his fucking name y/n!"
"Mags."
"M-Mag- Mags did this to you?" He asked softening for a moment, "Magnolia did this to you?"
"Yeah,"
"Why?"
"I uhhh... May have gotten in a fight with her."
"yeah, I could figure that out. why did she suddenly turn and fight you."
"I may have pulled her hair..."
"So you started it?"
"Yeah."
"Y/n! You can't start a fight with someone!" He scolds "Look at you! look at what's happened to you and you're lucky you got out with just this!"
"I know but-" I suddenly felt like a child being told off by their father,
"Why on earth would you start a fight with Mags she's twice your size and you know she can kick a horse down the street, are you stupid or something why would you start anything with her let alone let it go on to a full-on fight? I can't believe you!"
"I'm sorry Jack."
He sighed putting a hand through his hair, "Do you have any idea how stupid that was?"
"Yes..."
"she could have killed you!"
"I know..."
"At least you're alright," He sighed kissing my forehead, "But I'm still mad at you,"
"I know." I giggled,
"You know what no. I'm not mad at you."
"You're not?"
"No. I'm not mad. I'm just disappointed."
Immediately my heart sank, god damn why does that still work on me as an adult woman, "I'm sorry..."
"I know you are," He said, "Come on let's get your battle scars looked at," he said "But I am not kissing your bruises better." he joked
"Aww, why not?" I playfully whined
"No, no I'm not doing it I'm still angry at you. that's your punishment little lady I'm not kissing them better."
"But how will they get better without kisses?"
"well should have thought about that before you started a fight." He said  slowly but surely he went over my body cleaning and wrapping my every cut, motioning every bruise, checking the extent of the damage done to me, "There, that's all of them, now look after yourself alright."
"I will I promise,"
"Good, I do not want you back in here for another fight." he warns, "Or else."
"Or else what?"
"Else your next battle is gonna be with me." He warns tapping my nose, "Okay?"
"Okay." I nodded,
"Good, what did you and Mags get into a fight over."
"I- I can't"
"Tell me." He ordered, "Now. Before I really do get mad at you again."
"...You."
he froze up looking me over before finally meeting my eyes, "Me?"
"Yeah..."
"You got into a fight with mags, over me?"
"Yeah,"
"You... you... got into a fight over me? why?"
"I can't-"
"Y/n. why did you get into a fight with her,"
"she... she said some bad things about you,"
"What did she say?"
"she called you stoney broke, called you a little lowlife, called you not smart enough to have gone to college, a tiny little thing, she said at least as a doctor, you've got skilled quick fingers, 'cause he ain't doing much else with anything else, she called you an uneducated scrawny little beggared" I explained and every word looked as if it cut him open, "She said we should keep the poorper doctor boy in the gutter, where you belong,"
"she- she said all that?"
"she did." I nodded,
"and- and you defended me?"
"Of course I did."
"You defended me! You started a fight for me! You... you got all these battle scars... for me?"
"I did."
He cracked a smile and gave my lips a soft gentle kiss before he pulled me into his chest as close as possible stroking my hair, "Thank you y/n."
"It's okay,"
"No, really, thank you. You don't know how much that means to me."
"You're welcome Jack," I smiled, "Happy to get a few battle scars for you."
"Well, not too many I hope. You didn't have to do that for me..."
"I know, but I did. You'd have done the same for me wouldn't you?"
"Of course I would, I'd get a thousand battle scars for you." he said kissing my head, "that doesn't mean I'm not still mad at you." he chuckled,
"I know," I laughed, "I accept that you're mad at me, for being stupid and starting a fight."
"No more starting fights, or getting into fights, just no more fighting in general."
"I promise." I nodded,
"Good girl." he cooed kissing my forehead,

Things we can still get in a possible SoC Spin-off
now that i'm done ranting about the things that annoyed me, lets talk about this.
1: Some light on Inej's backstory, the abuse and exploitation she suffered, her own struggles with touch, her vulnerable side, her fun side especially when she's around Jesper and Nina, her fears and how she rises above them. According to this article by tvguide, showrunner Eric Heisserer states that a script has already been written about her incorporation back into the Dregs. Let's just hope they stop reducing Inej's personality to a mere “knife wife” and “girlboss” , and address her actual depth.
2: Tante Heleen's return! Since we never actually see her body onscreen and her death is merely mentioned twice and shrugged off, I'm hoping she's alive and that the production team is keeping her for the spin-off. She's an integral part of Inej's character arc.
3: The Dregs. I wanna see Rotty, Specht, Anika, Pim, Per Haskell, Big Bolliger and the rest of the bunch. Also Dime Lions, Razorgulls, The Liddies, and other prominent gangs. And a shot of the entire Merchant Council would be nice.
4: Since Inej will return and Matthias is still in Hellgate, we'll get the entire Hellgate breakout and Ice Court Heist. (I'm assuming during Matthias's breakout, Pekka Rollins will also manage to escape from Hellgate 🤔) So we can still have the entire book 1 ending at Vellgeluk where Wylan's face has been tailored and Inej gets captured by Van Eck.
5: Crooked Kingdom plotline till they rescue Inej— Kaz throwing off a rapist from the lighthouse after gaining intel, Kaz threatening a little girl, Jesper and Wylan going to receive Colm Fahey and the whole “people pointing guns at each other is basically a handshake” 😂, Nina's struggles with Parem and Matthias trying his best to be there for her, the iconic Kanej reunion at Goedmedbridge,..
I'm not sure how they'll proceed after retrieving Inej, because alot has already been adapted in this season of SaB. But we'll still have the showdown against Van Eck. Not sure what they'll replace the plague thing with but we'll see..
6: Wylan's backstory! Aside from Inej, we also have Wylan's heart wrenching backstory and we'll witness it all. His early life, the moment he lost his mother and his world became gray, his escape from the men who try to kill him, his realization that they were sent by his own father, his struggles with it all, his conflict with being a good person and working with criminals, his reunion with his very alive mother and Jesper being there for him, and so much more..
7: Kuwei! I'm a big fan of this sassy boy. He absolutely hates having to be with Crows and he chooses not to use their language simply so he can avoid conversations with them 😭 We'll see him cause conflict in Wesper's relationship but also slowly accepting and being thankful of the Crows. And I really hope, the show adds a sort of camaraderie between him and Wylan too. But despite it all, I still wanna see Wylan threaten to drown him 😆
8: The Bathroom Scene ♡ If we take into consideration the wound cleaning moment in season 2 of SaB, its a lot different from the bathroom scene. For starters, they're on Black Veil and not an actual bathroom, and Kaz didn't actually tie any bandages for her. Most importantly, the neck kiss didn't happen. So bathroom scene can still happen and it can serve as a beautiful callback and a parallel to this scene in season 2.
9: Kaz can still find Inej's parents, meet them and well, gift her a ship. Wylan and Jesper can still have their happily ever after, living at the Van Eck Mansion.
10: Since they've made so many changes to the source, can they fucking not kill off Matthias and let him and Nina have their happily ever after too? Like they can act as delegates for Ravka and Fjerda 🤔 Or they can help Hanne claim the Fjerdan throne 🤔 Anything aside from killing him off please.
if you guys have something to add or correct me on, please do so in replies/reblogs ☺

A baby had been born, between you, Belle and Hetty you had performed a successful cesarean operation. Both mother and child living through it. A body had been brought in in Red's place allowing the mother and child to escape Gaines' clutches. The Captain, though suspicious, was placated by the Professor, drunk as he was, declaring the woman dead. Though it had been the body of Kit Wilderkins in truth. You and Belle had returned to Government house.
"Jack a word." Hetty called to the Doctor. He wandered over to her, every step filled with confidence.
"It's about y/n." She says. Jack understands and pulls Hetty aside.
"You need to know exactly what is happening. Y/n is not from here." Hetty began.
"I know, she's from a different world." Jack scoffed.
"Not just one, she is from all of them. My uncle adopted a girl that was just like y/n. There is a legend, one from Ireland, France, here all over the world there have been reports of people like her. They are called the fortellers. People who slide between worlds."
"oh."
"But it isn't good. Not for long, they need a tether, Jack. A real hold onto one world or they disappear."
"Does, does she know this?" He asks.
"Mostly."
"Mostly?"
"The tether, I think, I think you could be it for her. My uncle wrote about it, he said that Lulu was here strongest when her family truly wanted her to be. If you want her as much as you make it look like you do then you could make her stay."
Jack thinks for a moment.
"Hetty, why are you so good?" He looks into her eyes. "I have been so awful to you but you're still here helping me."
"Not just you. Y/n is a good person. She doesn't deserve to just drift away." She turned and left Jack alone. He sighed, his mind whirling with too many thoughts.
*_*_*_*
"Thank you, Rotty."
"Thank you." Fagin and Jack spoke at the same time.
"So, our old Cheekybones did well." Fagin laughed.
" Yeah. She did, didn't she? Belle might make a great surgeon one day."
"And your Miss y/l/n, she did well." Jack's smile grew wide at Fagin's words, "Still, it's not really her world, is it? And you've got to remember, Dodge, hers isn't yours."
A dot of panic ran through Jack, wondering how much he knew about y/n.
A shadow outside caught his attention and he glanced outside, seeing you stood just outside. He got up bringing his cup with him.
"I must warn you I am a little bit drunk. In fact, I am approaching strutting pigeon." He smiled. You reach out and take the mug draining the liquid.
"So am I, now." You giggle. He takes a step closer to you.
"I've tried to stay away from you, but I need to tell you. I don't know everything, Jack. The show I didn't finish it and everything I knew has happened. I'm clueless about what happens to you now."
"Then we'll have to discover it together."
"I don't know how long I have left her." You admit.
"then we shouldn't waste it."
" It's hopeless, isn't it?" You say taking a final step and closing the space between your bodies.
"Oh I wouldn't say that." He brings his arms around you, brushing back the flyaway hairs around your face.
"I just want to feel you, at least once." Your whispered words were all Jack needed to hear. He pressed his lips to yours in a heated kiss. His lips were warm against yours. The hands that held onto you seemed to ground you. Made your body feel weight once more. Like you were finally, truly part of the world. Like being held against him was like an anchor holding a ship in place.
Neither of you noticed the man watching you, his dark eyes taking in every moment. You didn't notice him following you both as Jack walked you back to Government house, stopping occasionally to kiss you along the way.

𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒊— yuki x fem!reader. starwars au. 1.7k
“Pleasure doing business with you,” You say to the Adarian, though it was not a pleasure.
The tiger-like man nods curtly. He would probably agree– It was not a pleasure doing business with you. But your credits were filled, his emptied. The price he paid for needing such a vast amount of cortosis in such a short period of time.
Your guards stand before you. They’re mostly for show, twin codru-ji with ritualistic markings on their face, and four blasters strapped to their thighs: one for each hand. Chi’ari offers you a hand to help you up, and you take it.
“My business card,” You say, and Ra’li hands over the memory chip. “In case you need anything else, Rotti. Call me earlier and it won’t cost you so much.”
Rotti is unamused with this statement. He waves you off, and you don’t need any more prodding to extract yourself from his den.
The walk back to the hangar is silent. The three of you keep pace with each other, the robes of your dress swirling around your feet. You’ve enjoyed working with the twins– They don’t talk much, and are quick but not too quick to rise to your defense.
You stop before they do. The gangway to your ship is down.
Their hands move towards their blasters.
“We’ll check it out,” Ra’li says.
There’s no unease in the air. The only anxiety seems to come from the two beings beside you.
“Just go locate the pilot,” You state, continuing your pathway. “I’ll look elsewhere.”
Climbing the gangway, the three of you part ways there. The interior of the ship is high end, brand new. Sleek, curved walls. Blue and silver accents. Your hand disappears within the folds of your robes to remove your lightsaber. It hums to life beside you, casting an ethereal aura against the stark white metal.
You move silently. Check the closed rooms and continue on. You try to sense what’s around you, but all you feel are the twins and the pilot. Nothing else registers.
Nothing else registers, that is, until a familiar aura washes over you. You turn the corner and come upon the only open door. Your room lies within: bed perfectly made, a few gadgets on the bedside table, your sleep clothes set out on the covers to prepare you for the evening.
Swinging your lightsaber in a circle, it violently hums in the stark quiet of the ship.
Yuki rises from the chair in the corner she’s taken perch in.
“I could have killed you,” You state.
“You knew it was me,” Yuki replies.
Your saber shuts off, and you slide it back within the folds of your robes.
“Hey, honey girl. How was work?” Yuki asks, smiling widely.
You look her up and down. Still in her normal clothes: Tight top, baggy pants. Her robe lays discarded over the back of the chair she was sitting in.
“Fine.” Beside you, your fingers twitch. “What are you doing here?”
“Looking for you. You’re a hard girl to track down, you know that, right?”
You search her eyes. “Here to kill me again?”
“Nah. Here to run away with you.”
Your brows rise at her statement. “What happened?”
“Got tired traveling on my own. You have room for one more?”
“You’re really just here for that?”
“I wouldn’t say you’re just that. I’d say you’re worth a lot more than that.”
“Let me get comfortable, and then we can talk more.”
In your pyjamas and with the ship smoothly sailing towards your next destination, you feel more at ease. The twins sit up with the pilot, and you and Yuki sprawl out in the living space. Well, Yuki is sprawled out. You sit with your legs tucked up under yourself, arm over the back of the sofa.
She looks cool. All long limbs with an iced drink in her hand. She regales you with her most recent jaunt: Hunting down a sith lord on Yavin. It’s a terrifying tale as Yuki’s words twist with slight exaggeration. She glosses over the life she took.
“I was in the forests and I couldn’t stop thinking about you,” Yuki admits. She glances over at you after the words have left her lips. There’s a flicker of insecurity that lasts for only a moment.
“No?”
Yuki nods. “It wasn’t your kind of greenery, but it was so green. And lush. The trees were huge, the ferns, the rain… And I couldn’t help but just think about you. Wondering what you were up to. Really… Really thinking about our conversation last time we saw each other.”
The last time you saw each other was a surprise. You’d taken Yuki home, as you’re prone to do, and she had faked your death the next morning. It was a pattern that continued repeating. “You were thinking about my cunt?” You ask.
Yuki goes red. “No! I mean, I was, but I was also thinking about how… Relieved you look to not be dealing with jedi muck.”
Shifting on the sofa, you toss one of your ikkeu behind you, so it joins its sister down your back. “We’ve both known the Council isn’t for me. And it’s not for you, either.”
“I mean, I know. I’ve known. Something about the forest just made it really sink in.” Yuki knocks back her drink and sighs. “I made good money from my last bounty, so I can take some time to regroup. I need to regroup.”
Setting your glass down on the coffee table, a low set mod shape, you stand to get Yuki another drink. The cup comes out of Yuki’s hands easily, thanks to your force energy.
“What are you up to next?” Yuki asks, watching you closely.
You sit considerably closer to her, sliding the drink back into her hands. “You won’t like it.” You reach over to tuck a strand of her hair behind her ear, following the silky strands down over her shoulder.
“Humor me.”
“The prince of Tholoth wants some lesai. We’re headed to Zebitrophe to pick some up, and then headed to Tholoth.”
“Really?” Yuki sighs. She takes a sip of her drink. There’s no grand gravitational pull of her morals upon learning this. She’s not surprised to hear you’re running drugs– If anything, it’s expected for a smuggler.
You pick your own drink back up and take a small sip. “And then I’m going to Naboo for some time off. Are you coming?”
“You still got your apartment there?”
“No, I upgraded to a villa. There’s a pool.”
Yuki closes her eyes and rests her head on the back of the sofa, imagining it. You’ve always been fond of Naboo, Yuki remembers the first time you went. The two of you had been teenagers with padawan tassels, eagerly following behind your jedi masters. Yuki had tried, time and time again to get you to come out of your shell ever since you first met– Your master had been transferred to Coruscant, and taken you with him.
On Naboo, she had found you one evening when sleep should have been the only thing on your minds in the royal gardens. The three moons shone down upon you, engulfing you in an otherworldly glow. Your fingertips rested on the leaves of a lotus flower, and they slipped down, shameful, when your eyes landed on Yuki.
Your eyes had been wide. Caught.
Your secret was safe with Yuki. She brought a finger to her lips and winked at you. She knelt beside you, and let you show her that you had learned how to make ripples in the water with the force, and that you could unfurl the flowers that closed up under the moonlight. You only did it twice, though, claiming it didn’t sit right on your soul.
Yuki didn’t think you were going to board the ship and return to Coruscant.
One of your fingers presses into the softness of Yuki’s cheek. She opens an eye to look over at you.
“What are you thinking about?” You ask.
Yuki closes her eyes once more, a fond smile on her lips. “First time we went to Naboo.”
“Oh?” You remember it like it was yesterday. It was such a different environment from the rocks you had grown up around, from the constant inhaling of dust and city.
“Yeah,” Yuki licks her lips and hums. “Swear it was like I was looking at you for the first time.”
Your cheeks darken under your blush.
“Think you looked at me for the first time,” Yuki adds on. She opens her eyes to look at you, taking in the bashful look on your face.
You wave your hand. “I was embarrassing as a child.”
Yuki grins, leaning into your space. “Nah, you were just shy and didn’t know you could be gay.”
Avoiding her eye contact at all costs, you blush harder. Yuki grins wider. Places her hand on your thigh. “Good thing you figured that out, huh?”
“You’re embarrassing me now,” You pout.
“I think I’m flustering you,” Yuki says, not missing a beat. “C’mon, make some eye contact with me, pretty.”
It takes all your resolve to turn and make said eye contact. Yuki’s closer than you anticipated. Your heart skips a beat, flutters at the distance.
“Hey,” Yuki breathes.
“Hi,” You return.
Yuki’s eyes flash to your lips. “I’m going to kiss you now.”
“Okay,” You sigh and relax further. Yuki presses her lips against yours.
“I’m sorry for knocking out your captain.” The words are pressed against your lips.
“Don’t talk about that right now,” You murmur. Yuki’s hand slides further up your thigh, fingers splayed and bunching the fabric up. Her lips swallow yours, her tongue gliding against yours.
Yuki pulls back, slowly, and sets your glasses on the coffee table. She gently pushes you down on your back, situating herself between your thighs. “You looked so pretty that night. If I hadn’t known any better, I would have mistaken you for the princess.”
“The royal family of Naboo are humans,” You state.
“Please accept my compliment, princess.” Yuki rests a hand by your head to support herself. You get a good whiff of her perfume. Her other hand comes to cup your cheek, thumb smoothing against the soft skin.
You wrap your hand around her wrist. “Please give me a kiss.”
Yuki seals her lips against yours once more.

Daughter of the Rain and Snow
Concept: Around ten years after the events of Crooked Kingdom, 25-year-old Captain Inej Ghafa frees Maya Olsen from a pleasure house in Ketterdam. Maya is looking for revenge against the man who put her in her position, a man who she knows nothing about except his name: Kaz Brekker.
Tags: @wraith--2 @lunarthecorvus @just2bubbly @real-fragments7 @ethereal-maia @cartoon-clifford @origami-butterfly
Content Warnings: in more general terms I want to remind people to be aware of the nature of Kaz and Inej's experiences and relationship since even if I'm not directly addressing these things they tend to be implicit in any writing about them, but specifically to this chapter there's ptsd references, discussion about drowning, threats, violence, and there isn’t any child death taking place but it is talked about so I wanted to mention that just to make sure I’m being clear
Chapter 15 - Kaz
“What are the chances of being arrested if I murder a member of the Merchant Council in broad daylight?” Kaz snarled as he limped into the Crow Club.
He was finally going to give Ethan this Saints-forsaken financial record. Part of him was hoping the boy was guilty after all, so he’d have an excuse to kill someone. Annika looked up from her table and snorted a short laugh.
“For anyone else pretty high. For you? Depends on the Council member,”
“Meaning?”
“Meaning it depends on whether Jesper would shoot you before the Stadwatch got there,”
“Like Jesper could take me,”
She laughed again. Kaz didn’t have time for that. He flung two bags of coins into her lap and marched on past as he said:
“One for you. One for Rotty. Keep the tables busy,”
Annika’s mock salute was the last thing he saw from the corner of his eye as he headed straight for the back room.
Ethan sat, alone, behind his desk, head half buried in the books until Kaz hit his cane against the doorframe to summon some attention. Ethan flinched and threw his head up, and upon seeing Kaz found himself somewhere between relieved and even more anxious. He closed the book in front of him with slightly trembling fingers.
“Kaz, you - I don’t-”
Kaz dropped the record into front of Ethan, open on the Olsen transaction. He took in Ethan’s twitchy manner and dishevelled appearance with a slow study if the boy, who was now leaning over and blinking several times to read the words.
“When did you last sleep?”
“Wh- I don’t- I was waiting for you,”
Ghezen, the kid hadn’t left the room since Kaz told him he’d be back with the ledger.
“It’s been 30 hours,”
“You said you didn’t know how long you’d be,”
“Well you’re useless to me like this. Go back to the Slat and get some sleep, we’ll talk about this tomorrow,”
Ethan left in a haze and Kaz shook his head as he took a chair and pulled the most recent books towards him. Something was telling him the last 2 days of adding were going to need redoing, and besides it gave him a good opportunity to read through the recent ledgers for any discrepancies. This wasn’t as good a distraction as talking to Ethan would have been, but it was something. Kaz thought of Inej pulling away from him in their little house, dark eyes burning like a fire half- hidden by the black silhouette of the moon. He flexed his fingers in his gloves.
“What was the alternative?”
“Me!”
She was right, in a way, he thought. What would their little piece of the world look like if he had taken the energy he gave to the Dregs and put it into them? A marriage that didn’t rely on letters left from the beyond, safety, security, maybe family. And where would that leave him? Following Inej around Ravka, replacing the fear of the ship with the fear of her falling from the swings? Watching her teach their children the high wire whilst he imagined them falling, saw their little bodies splayed across the concrete? Or would he still be left waiting for her ship to return, tucking the children in every night whilst they asked when their mother would come home and he had no answer to give them? Always passive, always outside, watching her life through a lens whilst he couldn’t find where he fit into it.
She would have her ship, and he would have his city.
Even now that had to be the way it was. He had watched her try to be part of his world for years and known she wasn’t happy, he couldn’t ask her to sacrifice that again. But he didn’t know if he had the strength to sacrifice his world for hers instead.
And now this.
Kaz didn’t want to blame Inej for being angry with him, but she’d read the Saintsforsaken ledger hadn’t she? She knew he’d done nothing to this girl or her father that justified her placing blame on him. Something itched at him in the corners of his mind her shut out. You didn’t want to blame Jordie. Of course he didn’t. But it seemed all a more clean cut affair with Maya’s father, didn’t it?
No matter how Maya felt though, surely Inej could see?
She reminds me of you.
Kaz had no hope of focusing on these stupid ledgers. The numbers swam from line to line, like they were taunting him with the one thing he was supposed to be able to do. This, at least he was supposed to still be good at. A glance, an acknowledgment, and the numbers should have been stored in his mind. The filing cabinets in there scrolling over a decade of records that he could call upon at will. But now he was straining to concentrate, and his mind was filled with nothing but Inej and her dark, burning eyes. Flinching away from his touch. Drowning in the harbour. Thirty hours. When had he last slept? He didn’t want to. The dream came too fresh, too often. That oil black hair spilling around her, floating in the water. Limbs drooping, borne aloft by the waves, fingers in his turning to taut and bloated flesh. He couldn’t touch her. Couldn’t reach her. He was falling from the wire without a net.
He shoved the books away and hurried out, ignoring Pim trying to get his attention as they passed each other near the stairs. He went into his office and slammed the door shut, feeling the shake of his gloved fingers on the lock. He was stronger than this. This wasn’t supposed to happen anymore.
And if it did? He wasn’t supposed to be alone.
He slid down the door and sat on the floor in cold, shivering silence, his bad leg stretched out in front of him. He had to get her, had to explain to her, had to - what? What did he even want to say?
He would move the earth for her. He would kill, had killed, for her. He would die for her. And it didn’t mean anything, because even now he didn’t show it. Because even now, he refused to torture himself with the idea of their future. Their happiness, together. In Kerch, in Ravka, they could move to the permafrost in Fjerda for all he cared. He would carve a life for her in the face of a mountain, if that was what she wanted. But it felt like an infection. It was worming its way through him, and if he didn’t quash it there was every change it might destroy him. Destroy them both. All he was so desperate to give her was impossible to say, because saying it out loud made it real. It made it something that could be lost.
Kaz didn’t know how long he’d sat there before he managed to slowly pull himself back up, weight first in the door handle and then against his cane. There were no lights on in the room. He let the door swing on its hinges as he left, to walk back to the Slat. To force himself to sleep; to let the dream wash over him so he could fight it like he’d fought everyone and everything else.
And so it was as the door swung and the lights remained off, as Kaz limped away in stoic silence and the street lamps began to glow, that no-one noticed the hand reach up from beneath the desk and leave a neat, sealed letter next to the inkwell.

The Plan (Reader Insert/The Crows x Reader Part 2)
HI GUYS!! AS REQUESTED, HERE IS PART TWO >:D
@itsprobablyavery @outlawqueen17 Thanks for inspiring me to continue this story. This is dedicated to you <3
Also, bear with me please I haven't read the books in a while, so some of this information may be incorrect. I apologize. Please feel free to correct ANY mistakes I may have made :)
This is definitely WAY shorter than part one, but I can promise you, there will 100% be a part three :) It should be up within a week or so.
Part One
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 407
Warnings: Mild Language, Alcohol, Violence
Part 2/?
You hadn’t expected Brekker's team to welcome so quickly. Jesper had quickly taken a liking to you, and Inej.. Well she didn’t hate you. Kaz mentioned a few others, including a heartrender, and a demolitions expert that he’d hired who had yet to show up. Nina Zenik, was the name of the heartrender. As for the demolition expert’s name, that was unknown.
“So, how exactly are we going to successfully break into the ice court?” you asked Jesper. “I’m not entirely sure myself.
, but when he says he has a plan, it usually works because he has at least 6 other backup plans that come along with the first plan.” You raised your eyebrows. “Six?” You asked. Jesper nodded. “It’s not entirely unbelievable if you’ve known him long enough.” You hummed in agreement, sipping your tea.
“How many outrageous plans has he pulled off in the past?” You asked. “Enough.” Both you and Jesper turned around to see Kaz standing at the bottom of the stairs.
“Wylan and Nina will be here soon enough, then we’ll figure it out.” He said. “Wylan is?” Jesper asked. Kaz adjusted his gloves before he responded, “Our demolitions man.”
As Kaz had said, both Nina and Wylan arrived within the hour. Kaz had the club emptied save for a few he most trusted, Rotty and Muzzen being amongst them. Wylan and Jesper sat next to each other and Inej stood in the shadows. Nina stood next to you with Kaz explaining how this heist would go down.
“First, we break into Hellgate to retrieve the Fjerdan. We’ll pose as spectators to see the fights, and have Nina tailor him to look like him.”
“How do you propose we do that?” Wylan asked. “Glad you asked. That’s where you come in, Jesper. You and Wylan will let the wild animals from the arena out. While the guards and spectators are distracted, we’ll escape beneath the arena and we’ll then head to the docks. From there, We’ll head to the Ice Court.”
“I’m assuming that’s not all of it.” You said. Brekker shook his head. “That’s just the first half of it. Wylan, we’ll need you to draw a map of the Ice Court while we’re on the ship to Fjerda. Matthias can then help us form the rest of the plan, and we’ll go from there.”
Everybody around the table nodded. “Then what are we waiting for?” You asked. “Let’s do this.”

L'appel du L'eau
Characters: Miles, The Racketeer, The Oddsman (ancestors w/ no pages unfortunately soz) Pre Smiles Miles thing hi<3
Under the bright Alternian moons, the lower Delhon docks swayed. The trolls walking the uneasy planks grew sparser and sparser as sunrise grew closer- returning to their ships or the various other places sailors spent their time during the harsh daylight.
Rare was it that a certain pirate didn’t stay in the company of a particular jadeblood until the madame kicked him out. Rare as the weather being this nice in this season. Rare as that jadeblood choosing to be out on the docks rather than seeing clients.
His short mane of curls blew behind him at the speed he walked, striding as long as his little legs could muster. It would be a run if he didn’t want to look as desperate as he felt. The heels of his buckled boots clicked fast, his catlike eyes darting between ships until he found the one his companion had described. The Scull Kraken stood tall, proud and purple in the moonslight, the squid patterning carved into her hull shining a brilliant gold.
Amillo felt like he could burst into a desperate, desperate sprint. Domnik’s horns also shone under Alternia’s three moons, next to him the seadweller he could only assume was the “brother” he’d heard about.
“Domnik!” Milo shouted down the dock when he was just close enough. The both of them startled, the taller violet’s hand flicking to his side.
“Amillo?” Domnik asked, confused. He swatted his captain’s twitchy fingers away from his firearm.
“I thought I’d never find you before you left,” Milo said, breathless now that he’d stopped. “I was thinking about your offer. Also hello, you must be Rothan. Amillo Ariika.” Milo straightened himself, smoothing his coat before offering his hand.
The taller of the pair of highbloods eyed it with disdain. Milo faltered slightly, but he daintily switched the offer of the handshake to a loose hanging wrist- fingers to kiss if he were so inclined.
He was not.
“Amillo what are you doing here?” Domnik asked gruffly, lowering Milo’s hand with his own.
“I have been turning that offer you proposed to me around my head for nights, Dom,” he said, chin high in the air. The vertical feet between the jade and the other two trolls was almost laughable. The flowery fins of the seadweller shifted as he tilted his head.
“You’ve been proposing things to…” Rothan eyed Milo’s least frilly pair of puffy shirts and tight trousers with disdain, “Suckerfish?”
“Rottie-” The blueblood’s pale face darkened noticeably.
“Is that a problem, captain?” Amillo asked with a polite defiance.
“Milo-” Domnik attempted through gritted teeth. Rothan shut him up with a hand on his chest.
“What does my idiot brother offer you, eh? More money than your domineering lady takes from your affairs?” There was a joking tone to his voice that made Amillo’s ears twitch annoyedly.
“Something like that.” Milo cast his sharp gaze to Domnik, uncomfortable and bracing for impact. “Perhaps I’m a bit too romantic, Domnik? To think perhaps you had more intent with me than most?”
“Will you get on with it?” Rothan interjected before Domnik could take a breath in. “What do you bother me for, jade?”
“I am coming with you,” Milo said, as if that were an obvious fact. Those five words hung heavy in the air, Rothan seemingly waiting for a punchline. He did not receive one.
That didn’t stop him from laughing.
Cruel and cartoonish, doubling himself over to hold his knees, exaggeratedly wiping a tear from his eye. Domnik chuckled uncomfortably, but Milo remained unmoved. He crossed his arms over his chest, tapping his foot as he waited for him to be finished.
“Oh that is rich- oh.” Rothan paused, something in Amillo’s eyes giving him reason to you. “You think you’re serious.”
“I am serious,” Milo said firmly, tugging on Domnik’s sleeve to pull him to his side. Domnik, for some reason, allowed this. “My matesprit said he desperately wished I could come with him, and as it so happens, I’m free tonight.”
The violet looked between Domnik and the jadeblood, some bioluminescent anger pockmarking his neck around his bud shaped fins.
“Dom- fuck’s sake, idiot get your ass back over here.”
“Maybe we hear him out?” Domnik asked sheepishly, “Rottie-”
“Captain now. I sooner throw you off this dock before I take your dainty little screwtoy out on the water.”
“Don’t talk about him like-”
“Oh so it iiis more than that, da? Of course it is. You get softer every fucking time we dock this port.” He jutted his chin out to Milo. “You think that thing can survive my ship?”
A low hiss escaped Milo, Domnik’s hand instinctively moved to stop him going further.
“Shows what you know about this port, Lilyfin.” Milo shot, looking like a child being held back by Domnik’s trunk of an arm. “You would think that someone who’s name precedes him as far as it does would look into what role the suckerfish on these docks play.”
Milo kicked in the back one of Domnik’s knees, sending him down with a yelp. His head was just level with Amillo’s chest. The glint of his blade at Domnik’s throat was immediately preceded by the click of Rothan’s gun. Milo hardly blinked, keeping Domnik’s head in place by his horn.
“Could I survive this province were I not half as much a savage beast as you are, captain?”
“Let him go,” Rothan snarled, trigger discipline waning. Miles barked out a laugh, gripping Domnik’s horn tighter.
“Or what? You’ll shoot me? Like I have anything to lose? Like I won’t come back from it?” Milo’s skin rippled as he taunted, the undead alabaster glow sending a shiver down Rothan’s spine.
“I will shoot you in your head,” he said, a hitch to his voice that made Milo’s smile widen.
“I’ll make it his,” he said, jostling Dom around by the horn.
“Milo-”
“Quiet, Dommy.”
Rothan paused, weighing his options, but quickly came to his senses. Something in Milo’s eyes must have scared him.
"You think I'll let you on my ship one step after this?" He straightened himself, lowering his gun. "I say yes, you let him go, I shove you in with the sharks to play chew toy."
"Rottie‐?!"
"Shut up, Domnik," said both Milo and Rothan at once.
"I would never hurt Domnik if I get what I want, captain," Milo reassured, keeping pressure on the blade at the blueblood's throat. "I can be a model addition to your crew if you let me."
"Right."
"I think we should give him a chance, Rottie," Domnik strained, trying to keep his throat unopened. Rothan swore in his upper province tongue, swinging his gun around as he spoke.
"Still, dipshit? How often does he have you on your knees that you want to bring him with us?"
"If he disarmed me, couldn't he-"
"He disarmed you because you're stupid." Rothan raised his gun again. "Get up, Domnik. Get back over here."
Dom didn't move. Amillo wouldn't let him, or perhaps he was on his side after all. Rothan let out a frustrated growl and stomped. He holstered his gun, but Milo's hand was steady.
"You actually know how to fight?" he asked exasperatedly. "Not just this little trick?"
"It's a miracle none of us got hired for your head, Lilyfin. Yes I can fight. I can shoot, run, and steer if need be." The breeze brushed Milo's hair back for him. The smell of the ocean was nothing new, but tonight it smelled like freedom. He was so close to leaving this place behind. For good.
"I know you're down a crewmate as well," Milo continued. Rothan swore again, staring daggers through Domnik.
"How much did you fucking tell him you gulper-mouthed moron?!"
"A little- I- You know how it is when you're-"
"No I don't because I don't need to pay for port whores every time we dock!" Captain Lilyfin stomped again to exaggerate his anger. Or maybe he was just that dramatic. “I can keep my mouth shut.”
“Oh I've heard that,” Milo said, tapping on Domnik's horn. “Daylight is approaching, captain. I'm offering myself for nothing more than the ability to get away from Delhon. I want nothing more, I want nothing less.”
“Kitten,” Dom whispered, “Could you, perhaps, let the knife down a little, I'm-”
“Shut up, Dom,” Milo and Rothan said at the same time. Dom did as he was ordered. Rothan paced at the end of the dock, then stopped with a heavy sigh.
“Fine,” he growled, “Persistent little he-wench… I have three conditions.”
“List them.” Milo's undead heart could be mistaken for alive at the pace his pulse was thrumming.
“Release the idiot.” Milo did so, keeping his dagger raised. Domnik scrambled to Rothan’s side. He received a hard slap across the face before the captain continued.
“Your fangs don't touch me. My crew will not be weakened by your diet either.”
“Understood, captain.” Rothan rolled his eyes. Domnik rubbed his cheek. Captain Lilyfin paced closer, enough to make Milo tense.
“I need you to prove you want this, kitten,” he sneered. “Not enough to yes yes yes me- I need a display of loyalty.”
Rothan got close enough to touch, if not for the blade in Milo's hand. He leaned down anyway, baring his sharp teeth.
“I want your finger.”
“Rotti-”
Captain Lilyfin shot his first mate a deadly look over his shoulder. Milo bristled, briefly looking back to the docks, then to the waiting black of the ocean.
“Which. One?” he asked through gritted teeth. Rothan barked out a laugh.
“Forefinger. I'll let you pick the hand.” He pinched Milo's nose, despite the threat of the dagger. “And since you so kindly brought your own blade… do it yourself.”
Domnik made some noise of protest, but Rothan shut him up with another stomp on the pier. Amillo hesitated, eying the dagger in his left hand. It would be such a small price… they can make new ones, right?
“Well, koshka? Or do you not want boarding before the sunrise?”
“Of course, captain,” Milo said with hostile grace, switching his blade to the right. The jadeblood felt the knuckle on his left hand. Bone or joint… Bone would be more difficult, but joint could take more hand with it.
Good thing his blade was sharp.
He positioned his dagger against his forefinger, holding it in place with his teeth.
His new captain let out a low hum, holding Domnik back by the jacket. Milo was eerily silent as he turned his head like a predator shaking its prey's neck to death. Barely a grunt of pain when steel sliced through solid. The loudest noise any part of him made was when digit hit dock. His skin rippled white again. Most unsettlingly, so did his finger, until it couldn't and lay there dead on the planks. He bled surprisingly little, but what could one expect from something undead? That wasn’t to say no blood stained the dock, his dagger, or his face, but not nearly as much green as one would think.
“Satisfied?” he snarled, sounding more like a wounded animal than a troll. Rothan still held Domnik back from him. Though, his efforts to get to him paused when he licked his own blood off his blade. All without breaking eye contact with Captain Lilyfin.
“Fucked up little thing, aren't you?” Rothan leaned down to pick up his severed digit as if it were a dull coin on the ground. “Satisfied enough. Get whatever shit you’re bringing, ninefingers.” He wiggled it at him as if to beckon him. “Unless they don’t let suckerfish keep more possessions than the frills that cover your asses.”
Milo let out a low hiss and grabbed Domnik’s arm to tug him back to his side. Without a word he sheathed his dagger, wrenching a handkerchief out of Dom’s pocket to wrap his hand with.
“Uh, Milo-”
“Show me around the ship, won’t you, first mate Abroka?” he said with a far too wide grin and far too sweet a tone. “I am here on your offer, aren’t I? Plus, it’s almost daybreak.”

Ok last night i had a dream about this guy. He was a major bully like sooo mean he was so rude and horrible to me. And he was also super fucking hot. Like. Long curly dark hair, tan skin, dark eyes that always felt like they were judging me. Everything he said to me was an insult. He even pushed me around a bit. Never actually hurt me, but like would shove me out of the way or whatever
Well. We ended up having to be around each other for dream reasons i dont remember and he slowly started to act nicer to me. And. Well. I fell in love with him 😔 or at least developed a crush. And im like 90% sure he was falling for me too cuz of how his insults went from cruel to just teasing and he started to like seek me out to talk to me and shit. And i swear at one point we were about to kiss
And then my birds woke me up RIP

Nina and Inej being best friends forever throughout the duology
Nina crossed her arms. “I’m mad at you, too.” “Me? Why?” “I don’t know yet. I just am.” Inej gave Nina’s hand a brief squeeze, and after a moment, Nina squeezed back
Six of Crows - Chapter 6
“Who’s watching Inej?” “Rotty,” she said. “I’ll go back in a minute. I just needed some air. And don’t feign concern for Inej when you’re planning to send her climbing up six stories of chimney with only a rope and a prayer.” “The Wraith can manage it.” “The Wraith is a sixteen-year-old girl currently lying unconscious on a table. She may not even survive the night.”
Six of Crows - Chapter 15
“Talk,” she said to Nina. “Your eyelids are drooping. You should sleep.” “Don’t like boats. Bad memories.” “Me too.” “Sing something, then.” Nina laughed. “Remember what I said about wishing you were dead? You do not want me to sing.” “Please?” “I only know Ravkan folk tunes and Kerch drinking songs.” “Drinking song. Something rowdy, please.” Nina snorted. “Only for you, Wraith.
Six of Crows - Chapter 16
“Tell me something good anyway.” “It will be all right,” Inej said. “You’ll survive this. And then you’re going to be very, very rich. You’ll sing sea shanties and drinking songs nightly in an East Stave cabaret, and you’ll bribe everyone to give you standing ovations after every song.” Nina laughed softly. “Let’s buy the Menagerie.” Inej grinned, thinking of the future and her little ship. “Let’s buy it and burn it down.”
Six of Crows - Chapter 42
They watched the waves for a while. “Ready?” Nina said. Inej was glad she hadn’t had to ask.
Six of Crows - Chapter 42
But the days until Van Eck’s deadline were dwindling, and Matthias knew Nina would allow herself no comfort until Inej was safe.
Crooked Kingdom - Chapter 3
Nina would never let Kaz abandon her. She’d fight with everything she had to free Inej even if she was still in the grips of parem.
Crooked Kingdom - Chapter 4
She couldn’t afford to let it get the best of her, not when they were this close to rescuing Inej. Be all right, Nina willed silently, hoping her thoughts could somehow cut through the air, speed over the waters of the Ketterdam harbors, and reach her friend. Stay safe and whole and wait for us.
Crooked Kingdom - Chapter 6
She’d forced herself to think of the shame on the boat, the future she might be able to make with Matthias, but the thought that had brought her back to sanity was Inej. She owed Inej her life, and there was no way she was leaving her stranded with Van Eck.
Crooked Kingdom - Chapter 6
The five people inside rose, guns and fists raised, and Inej skidded to a halt. Nina shrieked, “Inej!” She flew across the room and crushed Inej in a tight hug. Then they were all around her at once, hugging her, clapping her on the back. Nina would not let go of her.
Crooked Kingdom - Chapter 11
“Those silos are nearly twenty stories high! Is Inej going to go up and down ten of them in one night?” “Just one,” said Kaz. “And then what?” said Nina, hands back on her hips and green eyes blazing. (...) (...) Nina threw her hands in the air. “And all of it without a net, I suppose?” “A Ghafa never performs with a net,” Inej said indignantly. “Does a Ghafa frequently perform twenty stories above cobblestones after being held prisoner for a week?” (...) "Inej, make a list of what you’ll need. We hit the silos in twenty-four hours.” “Absolutely not,” said Nina. “Inej needs to rest.”
Crooked Kingdom - Chapter 11
"If I’m going to do this, I want us to get the rest of the Grisha out of the city.” “Forget it. I’m not running a charity for refugees.” “Then I’m out.” “Fine. You’re out. You’ll still get your share of the money for your work on the Ice Court job, but I don’t need you on this crew.” “No,” said Inej quietly. “But you need me.” Kaz rested his cane across his legs. “It seems everyone is forming alliances.” (...) “They’re called friendships, Kaz.”
Crooked Kingdom - Chapter 11
She gave Nina’s shoulders a squeeze. “And I know no fiercer warrior, powers or not.”
Crooked Kingdom - Chapter 17
And then Wylan knew just how much trouble they were in, because Nina hadn’t argued. She’d simply put her head in her hands and gone silent. “They’ll be all right,” said Inej, placing an arm around her shoulders. “He’ll be all right.”
Crooked Kingdom - Chapter 23
Inej gave her a tight hug. “Come on,” she said. “We’ll get Colm to order us something decadent.” “That’s your answer for everything.” “You’re complaining?” Inej asked. “I’m stating one of the reasons I adore you.”
Crooked Kingdom - Chapter 28
Kaz said, emerging from behind the wine crates. “Where’s Inej?” “I’m fine,” said Inej from behind him. “But Kuwei—” “You’re bleeding again,” Nina observed as she slid behind the high stacks of crates to join them. There was little traffic on the canal now, but it didn’t do to take chances. “And what happened to your eyes?” “I’d tell you to ask the White Blade, but…” Inej shrugged. “I hope she suffered.” “Nina.” “What?
