Happy Lockwood & Co. Big Bang!!! :D I had the absolute pleasure of collaborating with @The_Dreamer_Half_Alive (on Ao3 :) on her fic for the @lockwoodandcobigbang2023 event; set post TEG, it’s truly so lovely and heartwarming, and I had so much fun doing a piece for it! We very much hope you enjoy :)

Okay, so I tried to put a bunch of little easter eggs from the fic and just in general in here, so if you’re interested:

Alright, to start off, I was generally very inspired by them getting a record player; I thought it was very sweet, and I loved the idea of them finally getting to relax and hang out in the library (the lack of chairs, I know; I couldn’t figure out how to put them in without blocking people lol) and locklyle dancing, with the record player on in the background, so that’s what I took as the basis of the scene!!

We had discussed that the characters were kind of a combo of both show and book versions, so I tried to add a smattering and hints of both when doing their designs!

The record is, of course, an Ella Fitzgerald record as mentioned in the fic (the record drawn is her Souvenir Album)

Holly is wearing her engagement ring, and wearing shades of pink and cream because that’s what she wears at her wedding (although shifted in hue to better match the color scheme of the piece lol)

Everyone (minus Flo) of course has their white strands of hair (which is *always* one of my favorite details to draw)

Lucy and George bake in the fic, but I think I had just read the Christmas mini story when I was doing my thumbnail for this, so Kipps ended up being the one bringing in baked goods; however, the baking mitts are orange and monogrammed with George's initials because I couldn't let that slip by, could I?

I wasn't quite sure what to put Flo in, because in the books she never takes off her boots or puffer jacket, but I wanted to throw in some sign that she was living at 35 Portland Row and becoming closer to all of them, (and her close relationship with George,) so I let her keep the boots, but traded the puffer jacket in for one of George's plaid shirts :)

The chess game also made it in because of the Christmas short story, lol

Lucy's blue star jacket!! When I read the fic, I was planning from the start to have her wearing the jacket, so of course it made it in :) I wasn't really sure what style it should be, though, so I ended up with kind of an odd mishmash of designs, but I think it turned out working alright!

The sapphire necklace, because, of course

I adore that Lockwood wears his pink socks throughout the entire show (well, most of the time they're the pink ones ;) so I wanted to include them (and then gave Lucy blue ones to match :)

The chipped blue mugs that Lockwood brings to Lucy for her tea after she wakes up from nightmares are on the bookshelf, and I couldn't find a way to directly include the Earl Grey tea they have, but I made the tea bag tags grey in honor of it

The green glow is the ghost lamp outside because if I can find a way to incorporate cool glows in my art, I will (and also on a more narrative-driven note, symbolizing the past danger they've been through and how some of it is definitely still present, but they have each other to heal with and finally be able to have some simple fun with, and are now curled up in the safety and comfort of 35 Portland Row :)

And finally, a big theme of the fic is them healing and building a happy life together, so I just wanted them to all be happy for once, and hence I put in my best efforts to draw them as such :)

Hi. I saw your requests were open and wanted to see if i could ask for one so here goes nothing.

I have an idea thats been bouncing around in my brain for the past three days. I was wondering if you could write a story with the whole cast of welcome home. Basically reader is the neighbourhood doctor and is the one everyone goes to when they rip or tear. The reader has special sheets of felt and fabric that match the felt colour of every neighbour.

One day, Wally needs a patch after an accident, and the reader realises that they don't have any yellow felt left, and starts to panic thinking wally is going to be upset. Wally comforts them and they decide to make a nice colourful patch using some scraps they had.

Next thing they know, all the nieghbours want to replace their old patches for pretty coloured ones. What colours do you think they would want?

Headcanons - What Colour Patches They Would Want

Hi! Cute idea! I'll just be making quick headcanons for this since I'm not quite in the mood to write a whole thing. Thanks for your patience in me getting this done!

Also, I don't remember if I already did but I'll be removing word counts from headcanon posts because they're just gonna be short. It's too much of a hassle.

Type: Headcanons, platonic

Tw: Injury, stitches/stitching/puppet repairing(?), food

Wally takes whatever scraps there are. He doesn't really care what it looks like, so long as it's colourful. Maybe he'd just go with the same sort of fabric as his pants to keep it in style with his wardrobe.

Julie wants flowers, of course! Daisies, tulips, sunflowers, roses...The possibilities are endless! Maybe with a green background so it looks like grass. That, or she'd like something with rainbows.

Sally wants something simple, yet elegant. A simple repeating pattern would be lovely. Maybe it's cut in the shape of a star? Or, if you're up for it, a star shape using one fabric with other fabrics for the trail! Red would be her colour of choice.

Frank would like something bug themed. Surely you have something of that, right? Maybe some beetles or butterflies--or both! He probably gt the injury from bug hunting, too!

Eddie would like a classic pattern like hearts or clouds. A bit symbolic of him, really; he's a lover, not a fighter, and he's always got his head up in the clouds. He'd also like his fabric cut in a heart shape, too. Or one of those people-shaped chains!

Howdy wants anything except a plain colour. Stripes to match his uniform? How fitting for his store aesthetic! Some of his products? He's a walking advertisement! Just don't make it boring.

Barnaby Complete opposite to Howdy. He just wants a nice plain colour--unless you have polka-dots. Then maybe (definitely) he'd settle for that. But otherwise, he doesn't care for fancy patterns. Just give him a nice shade of blue.

Poppy is far too indecisive to choose a pattern for herself. It becomes up to the rest of the neighbourhood to pick one for her! Eventually, she probably settles on a pattern of some eggs or some baked goods.

Was bored the other night and decided to edit a few official hsr artwork because why not? Now, this is in no way me 'fixing' the characters, just implementing headcannons.

Starting off with...

Gepard Landau

(before -> after)

Lowkey, Gepard was probably the hardest to edit cause I wanted to make him look in his thirties and more roughed up, but they gave him such a babyface and my talentless ass can only go so far.

Anyway, next we have...

Serval Landau

For Serval I wanted to, one, make her look older cause, canonically, she definitely is in her thirties-forties. I also wanted her look to be more bold and punk-like. Honestly if I could, I would've edited her clothes too, I don't like her outfit all that much.

Next up we have...

Natasha

For Natasha I once again tried to make her look older because she, too, in my mind is somewhere in her thirties-forties. I gave her more moles because I like projecting and a ladybug earring as a symbol of good luck. Something that she would definitely need in the underworld. Honestly speaking, if I could, I would change her hairstyle so fucking fast. It makes no sense to me, shouldn't doctors hide their hair so it doesn't get in the way (especially surgeons??? And I'm pretty sure she has given a surgery to someone in one of her lightcones????)

Sampo Koski!

Not much to say, most of the changes are just amplifications of cannon design (because he's already perfect). I gave him fangs mostly because of his snake theme (and because they look pretty), 'dead' (no spark) eyes and the 'birthmark' of a star because it looks good and his face looked bare

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the edits. I think I did pretty well for a first timer

Now I can’t read Japanese very well but I think what’s written was

so assuming I’ve not made a mistake somewhere these both reference space (globes and earth / stars) which is theme throughout the art but also with remi one of the few prisoners they are close to. Speaking if remi-

planets

The stickers appear to be earth/Saturn? Or Uranus? The colour makes me think Uranus but Uranus’s rings are usually portrayed as being vertical and its pretty hit or miss if its portrayed with rings at all were as Saturn is always portrayed with them so I’m not sure..

and the last one is harder to discern but I think it’s probably either venus or Jupiter? It looks the most like Jupiter but I hesitate to say it definitely is Jupiter since it doesn’t have Jupiter’s distinctive storm it also reminds me of venus but not actual Venus but the stylised depictions of it but it really could be anything since apart from Saturn and earth lots of the planets are drawn the same…but we do know for sure earth and again assuming that the translation was correct this connects back to 地球 and if the planet is Saturn we can connect that to remi’s saviour art were she has a Saturn on her shirt.

Also some thing I’m not 100% sure on is I think that the saviour art is the first time remi is connected with Saturn since I don’t think its in her memory art and I don’t think I’ve seen it anywhere else other then her saviour verdict art so maybe Saturn is connected to the saviour verdict???

Four leaf clover

yay another instance of 001 being portrayed with four leaf clovers to add to the collection! :D

I don’t have a super solid theory on why they are associated with them. There is of course the common superstition that four leaf clovers bring luck which I’m sure has something to do with it.

hotaru’s VD name Docetae seems to reference Jesus? and apparently clovers can be a symbol for the holy trinity but that seems like its always a three leaf so clover so that doesn’t make sense another place said that eve took a clover with her when she left the garden but its pretty much another dead end the only way I could think of connecting it was

life = garden

death = leaving edin

so “I'm here Right into Hell, I'll take you with me” killing somebody taking them from life (garden) and with hotaru to death??? (Leaving the garden)

There was one place that said that four leaf clovers could help you see evil spirts and be able to escape them but I couldn’t find any other references to spirts and four leaf clovers so this just a complicated way if saying it’s probably luck

it probably just symbolises luck and every other symbolism avenue I looked down hit a dead end

Extra thoughts

-their are so many clouds in hotaru’s various arts not surprised to see them here just don’t know what they could mean…

-with the planets / craft jewels that look somewhat like stars and the two words it seems there are potential alot of references to remi it was way to much of a stretch for its own section but its even possible to connect the line patterning on hotaru’s clothes and the arts bg back to her??

Hi Seiya!!! 💖 I’m not going to answer 9 in this post because I honestly have memory issues and I don’t currently remember something I wrote that I’m particularly proud of right now :(

17. Are there any writers and/or stories that you consider an influence?

Uuuuuuuh I think I’ve said this to them a billion times but I’m definitely tagging them here too!

@avelera is fully the reason why I’m on tumblr for Dreamling and even writing fic! I love the way she develops her plots, the impeccable grasp she has on the minds of the characters, and just how well she does writing stories in different genres. Also, Maggie has the ability to not coddle the characters and show their ugly sides too, which is something I admire a lot.

@softest-punk has to hear me scream whenever they post anything because soft has the gentlest, kindest and most hopeful writing I’ve ever seen. Everything is imbued with an inner light and just fiercely loving. Soft, like Maggie, also has incredible grasp of the technical part of writing (which is the reason why I’ve bothered both of them for writing advice).

@landwriter is an absolute master of themes and language. Just unhinged levels of drenching a story in symbolism even in the smallest little details. Also, the way Gloam does research is insane. I wish I had the same level of brain power to do research for work that Gloam does for fics.

@moorishflower’s writing is wild, vivid, unapologetic, experimental… moorish is just out here writing about themes and in ways that I’ve never allowed myself to even consider trying. Another master of language, like Gloam, and constantly pushing the boundaries.

@chiron-crow just goes there with his fics. He’s exploring pain, darkness, honesty and healing in an incredibly raw way that I think even scares him sometimes. I love how Chi organises his writing, how methodical he is in his process and how deeply he cares for the themes he chooses to tackle (Also his poetry fucking slaps ok?)

@valeriianz’s Bolt In The Blue has such a strong grip on my heart that I actually wrote fic for Kris’ fic lol. It’s a true slow burn, which I enjoy reading but am terrible at executing in my own writing. I love how Kris is able to take something that is not a common experience (being a touring musician) and stripping it down to the bare bones of it, the points of connection where everyone can identify with the characters.

@beatnikfreakiswriting’s “would you let me know” is one of the most delightful fics I’ve had the pleasure of stumbling upon. The exploration of Dream and Hob’s relationship, how Dream slowly opens up, all while dealing with the academic environment as a backdrop. I’ve steered away from academic AUs because I have deep academic trauma, so this fic made me feel seen and I was happy to have given it a chance. I just remember being happy reading it.

MonstruousRegiment is not on tumblr as far as I’m aware, but both The Uses of Adversity and The Stars Move Still are in my kindle fic bible for continuous reading because damn, those fics are good. There are so many original characters that just feel native to the universe they’re exploring. Their take on the “Hob saves Dream from the fishbowl” trope is one of my favourites to date. In the second instalment of the series, they manage to do yet another incredible canon divergence take. I’d read a thousand of those, just exploring how things could be different at different points of the story.

Let's talk about the symbolism of North and Night in 23.5. So the show has all these space references, but how does it apply to NorthNight? Let's look at this line said by North to Night. Is it just plain old flirting or something more? Let's look little deeper.

Starting with, North. North can be the direction but just for kicks assume North to be North Star. North Star/Pole Star, also known as Polaris is the brightest star in the Ursa Minor constellation and only visible at night. In the northern hemisphere, it can help you find your way at night as it's located in the direction of true north. For centuries, travellers have used the North Star for navigation. In astrology, North Star can be used to refer to an individual's destiny and fate.

The significance of North saying this line to Night? If North is the North Star and Night is the night sky then, presumably, Night won't lose his way if he stays with North and it was his destiny to meet him. Or the path Night takes will lead to North. Or whatever makes sense to you.

Actually, what's more fun is the link between 23.5 and North. Earth's axis is tilted 23.5 degrees from the plane of its orbit around the sun. Ongsa uses the pseudonym Earth because she likes Sun. And where is the North Star located? Right above the North Pole of Earth's rotational axis. From the trailer, it seems like Ongsa and North are friends or at least acquaintances.

Sticking to the space/ galaxy theme, their uniforms actually have 3 symbols: a circle(?), a moon and a star. The circle could be a planet or something else. They're going all in with the space theme, got to give with that.

A lot of assumptions and hypotheses but do you see it? Did they really have to make flirting so complex, I love them already. For 2 characters not even in the actual book, this is a quite a lot of work.

Hope this was an interesting read. Anyway, please support Milk, Love, Gemini and Fourth. Can't wait to see them all together!

Actually Milk and Fourth could definitely pass off as siblings, I approve. Do you think North will be a bad boy or another hopeless romantic like Tinn? Guess we'll just have to wait to watch 23.5 and find out.

Fanfiction Writing Asks : 1, 5, 18, 24, 47, 51, 57, 67 [Reunion], 72

Oh boy! Thank you for the ask!

Do you daydream a lot before you write, or go for it as soon as the ideas strike?

Definitely a lot of daydreaming. I like to have all scenes, and the overall plot of the fic, sometimes even dialogue, lined out in my head before I start writing. Helps pin down the mood and also ensures I stick to it because if I don't know where I'm going, it will marinate in my WIP folder for a while until I have an idea. (some also sit there even if I have a very specific vision already of where I'm going, but then it's because it's a lot to write)

5. How many wips do you have? What fandoms/pairings are they for?

18. Do you enjoy research? Which fic of yours required the most research?

24. How do you choose whose POV to write in?

Depends on what character I want to explore, but also what creates the most tension and the atmosphere I'm aiming for. I like to write from the POV of a character that's not completely in the know of what's happening around them. Unfortunately, that means Kenjaku often gets the short end, but they are so fascinating to observe through the eyes of a complete outsider like Jin. Wasuke's POV for example is one of my faves because he's a good channel to show how fucked up Jin and Kenjaku are.

47. Is there a trope that you’ve written before but are now sick of?

Can't really think of any. There are some fics I'm not entirely satisfied with, but that usually has to do with my writing or the characters involved, not a specific trope.

51. Does what you like to write differ from what you like to read?

Not that much, although I have to say that a lot of Jin's rosy, sentimental talking and actions wouldn't be something I'd enjoy to read with another character. Yeah, I'd say there's more "romance" and pining in my fics than I usually read.

57. How conscious are you about including symbolism or foreshadowing in your fics?

I try to think of major events beforehand and slowly built towards that, dropping hints along the way, but a lot of the time that happens on accident. Like, whoops, I guess this is a theme of this fic now or this is a reoccurring symbol now. Also happens that I come up with a new scenes while writing that I hadn't thought of before and realize when reading back, that another scene actually perfectly hinted at that. So a bit of both I guess?

67. If a fic was titled [Reunion], what would this story be about/how would you write it?

Hm, that's tough because I usually write the title of a fic last...

Most obvious way to take this would be two characters meeting again after a long while, but I like to have multiple interpretations for my titles. I think I'd write about the 1st Star Plasma Vessel, the one from the Heian era. Perfect way to condense all my hcs about him. It would cover his upbringing, maybe even how Tengen creates him, until the merger, when he "reunites" with Tengen and becomes one of her. He grows up drenched in the ideology of Tengen's followers. She is the Star. He is her and she is him. Although, while they are supposedly one and the same, he can't be whole until he reunites with her. He is a piece that went astray and has to take it's destined position again to mend the cracks that have started to appear on Tengen's body (figuratively).

Since this is the Heian era and the first time Tengen does such a merger, I think she would be more closely involved with him, talk to him about his place in the world and society and how he's meant to integrate into her (not the other way around, he's just a fragment after all). Kenjaku could slither their way in too, check out what plan Tengen has cooked up now and maybe even trying to make him switch sides and sow doubt about the merger. In the end, Tengen's will is stronger and swallows him. He integrates into her, but doesn't completely lose his will, throwing in further doubt that they are one and the same, but it's too late for him to speak up. He can only watch through her eyes.

(I always wanted to write about him, so this was really helpful to sort out the deeper happenings of it, thanks! +1 WIP)

72. What’s your favourite writing compliment you’ve gotten?

That's really hard to say because every little comment I get is amazing. Just knowing that what I wrote touched someone and made them feel something, already means a lot to me. I've even had some people say they felt inspired to write their own stuff, which is incredible. I used to think I would never be able to have this kind of influence with my writing or write anything meaningful at all, so any time I get a compliment, it flashes me.

(getting a bit personal) I used to be absolutely shit at writing. Miss words, spell them wrong even if I have the correct writing in front of me, mix up letters (I don't have dyslexia, I got tested, but I think I might have dysgraphia). Spelling and writing correctly, language in general, was literally beaten into me and because of all those negative comments and experiences I thought until a few years ago that I would just never be able to bring all the story ideas in my head into written form. So yeah, just having people care about what I put out and being able to write well is amazing.

Thoughts on the SDCC Trailer

Okay, I’m sorry this has taken so long for me to get together, but here are my thoughts (and some of those of my fellow theorists) about the trailer from Comicon.

I didn’t think of the 6.6 parallel but yeah I totally see what you mean. Also Judith’s hair looks DARK. Just an observation. Could just be the lighting. Or could be they’re playing up Lori in her resemblance.

I'm in love with this shot. The tile is shown side was so that it appears as a diamond shape which ◇=Beth but if you turn the tile it's a square and black can ■=Rick. I thought of Always Accountable first but also Inmates with Judith taking Beth's part.

This promo poster is interesting, re: the map we last saw in "Coda."

Helicopters over the sun. Clearly a CRM tie in. But it’s super cool to think that back in s5, this was already a symbolic foreshadow of the CRM. I wonder what ELSE from s5 was a symbolic foreshadow tied to the CRM.

I was thinking this herd reminded me of the group Michonne followed in her last episode. If you look at the skyline, they’re headed toward a huge civilization. It’s probably the CRM.

Here’s the shot of him carrying Judith.

Definitely feels like the walker side by side theme. I agree that Judith is taking Beth’s place. In the bridal carry as well. And even Daryl saying, “I wish things were how you want them to be (Beth) but I gotta keep you safe (also Beth).”

I got more screenshots and analysis. Coming at ya.

Okay, so I went over the trailer frame by frame. You said they didn’t include Leah or Connie, @wdway. They actually did, but only very quickly. From what I can tell, they just did a few key scenes from each season. I want to look over what they used a little more to see if I can find any patterns.

Once they got to s11, they showed a lot more scenes of what happened, in more detail because it was more recent, but so fast you can hardly see them. Leah was in there, but I do agree that she isn’t meant to be terribly important in the grand scheme of things. She just so happens to be recent.

Of course, it culminates with Maggie and Daryl walking through the grass. Then we get to the new stuff starting with Lance. I won’t go over every shot. Just the ones I found interesting. We hear Daryl say, “you wanna die quick? Or you wanna die screaming?” During part of that, we see CW soldiers marching into Alexandria. You can see the windmill behind them.

Then we see some dark woods. Looks like two women standing on a rooftop, looking at walkers. I lightened it up, but still can’t tell much. Might be Connie and Kelly?

Lance trying to get into some cars, and then some burnt and overturned train cars.

There’s one of Jerry and the kids fleeing from something. Interesting, given all our theorizing about the kids being in danger.

There are quite a few of Connie wearing that beanie, which is from those leaked pics of when Daryl is carrying Judith.

Something bad must happen there because we see lots of stricken faces, Kelly crying with blood on her face, and at one point, Connie keeping her from shooting someone or something.

People being arrested, like Zeke and Max.

Eugene beating up a CW soldier.

Judith with her sword. Apparently, she’s gonna forsake the school dress and go back to the katana.

Gunfire breaking out in the train station. Daryl and Carol stabbing some dude in the head.

Daryl with Lance at knifepoint.

About Daryl smashing his bike into the CW soldier? He slides right under a fallen tree trunk. I don’t know what’s going on there, but I feel like there must be some symbolism in that.

Rosita climbing a drain pipe and reaching for someone. I think it might also be part of this scene where someone leaps over the walkers onto a brick building. Can’t tell who it is, but might be Gabe.

This pic with Maggie is super interesting too. It, also, mirrors 6x06, Always Accountable, with the black helmeted walker Daryl laid next to replaced by the white of the CW. And there are train tracks reaching into the distance, along with the bike. Just loaded with important symbolism.

Daryl and Connie descending into a tunnel. Remember a few days ago when a call sheet said Daryl and Connie walk through a tunnel? I’m sure this is that scene. I’m noticing a lot of green….

This scene is interesting. I think it could be part of that same scene where Daryl carries Judith. If you look at the people coming up behind them, they all look the same as in those pics. But he suddenly stops, looks terrified, and yells fall back.

I was assuming it was walkers coming at them. And of course, the promo doesn’t show what he’s so scared of. But if you look here, it looks like a black vehicle of some kind is block the road. You can see the tires on either side of his hips.

I think it must be a weapon of some sort (hwatcha maybe?) sitting in a jeep or truck.

So, this kind of makes it seem like Rosita will die. Lots of shots of her looking trapped or distressed.

But I gotta say, after watching it frame by frame, I think it’s more likely to be Gabriel. First, because they’re trying to make us think it’s Rosita. But also we see a lot of Gabriel. We see him looking at a knife, saying something about people remembering the last thing you ever do. Maybe the Sirius character will finally pass.

There’s a part where Lydia is reaching for Elijah, and it looks like he may die.

But again, if they’re showing that in the promo, chances are it won’t play out that way.

We see Carol and Maggie kicking in doors. Then Daryl and Judith on the floor. Lots of final shots of all the main characters’ faces. It ends with the close up shot of Daryl carrying Judith. And then we get the coda with Aaron.

SUPER interesting stuff!

And then there are the parts where they’re running and Daryl is carrying Judith look like Terminus, I almost feel like it’s a replay of that. The pic of TF around the burning barrel reminds me of everyone meeting in the dark tunnel in 4b, when Maggie and Glenn were reunited. They talked about going to the “end of the line” tomorrow. And then they went to Terminus. Almost feels like a symbolic replay of that. And of course, that was right before Grady.

I think that's all I have for now. Will rewatch 20 times.

Yeah I also saw a black vehicle [behind Zeke]? Somewhere above you said you thought the big group of walkers could be a CRM “column.” I agree. Beginning with Lance, too, in what seems to be a judgment type scenario? And we see him like this or else in jail, mostly. Makes me wonder if Lance won’t be resolved quickly, leading to the Miltons, and something happening w TF getting too close to the CRM, and the CRM sending a “column” to the CW to eliminate the threat.

That’s what I thought when Ezekiel shouts for them all to “fall back” per the glimpse of the black vehicle. I am thinking back now to the phone on the boat with Rick’s name, and a picture of Judith and Michonne. I read in an old post that some people thought Jadis had drawn the picture, and I began to wonder why she’d do that. I wondered if it could be to help jog Rick’s memory, if he lost his memory at all, re: Beth, Madison.

In Slabtown, they ask Beth if she remembers her name. She answers hesitantly. The whole “what’s your name” theme is even echoed with the saviors, ie: What’s your name? My name is Negan. Saviors were expected to forget who they were in favor of the collective. Just some vaguely connected thoughts.

Anyway, Jadis knows about Judith. It all has me wondering if a Judith WILL be abducted after all. If Rick has made some demands, or Jadis is on his side (which I know we’ve speculated, ie: that Jadis is working as a double agent in the CRM and is actually a “good guy”). Or could be bad guys got ahold of intel and want to bring Judith in to “bribe” Rick into surrendering, giving up, etc. Anyway just some rambling about Judith and the CRM and how this could lead to not just the Rick/Michonne spin-off but also the Daryl spin-off, and how the two could eventually converge.

Also, did anybody watch the Tales trailer? There is one shot that definitely takes place at Terminus, and a character who is studying the “psychology” of walkers. A lot of it looked a little campy tbh, but still looking forward to seeing what kinds of clues they might use Tales to plant for season 11.

I had a similar thought about the CW being resolved quickly. It just doesn't seem like a big enough conflict to take them through the end of the show. And historically, the trailer tends to mostly be the first 1-3 episodes. Could be wrong. But it would be interesting if the CRM comes to quash the CW because they saw it as an insurrection, and that's how TF is finally introduced to them.

Definitely. My question then is, what is the ending? Obviously lol. Very odd to “end” the show by introducing a major faction. I am just so curious as to how they’re going to do it. Will they go a weird thematic route? Close the themes of the show but open new doors to new plots? I imagine that even tho they have all these spin-offs coming, they want the show to feel “resolved” in some way. So I’m curious about how they’re going to do that and still create enough open-endedness to entice fans to keep up w the universe…? Will they bring in Rick, somehow? Will they do some thematic “time travel,” end where we began? Just so many possibilities.

This picture I found while scrolling TWD on tumblr. Carol/MMB has a cookie in her mouth while Daryl/Norman is eating something pink, yogurt? maybe strawberry ice cream? With a white spoon. Who has a spoon as their symbol? Norman also happens to be wearing a black and white shirt. Coincidence maybe or not.

Just read a Comicbook article that there will be a Talking Dead preview show on Sunday August 7th. It was a little bit confusing but I believe they're going to cover both part C of TWD and talk some about tales of the dead. Definitely will be wanting to watch that.

I have to say I’m kind of suspicious about how much here has revolved around Rick. Not much to be said about Daryl at all. His spin-off is still a total mystery, and we know that Carol won’t be in it with him. I will say I’m a bit curious as to what is going on with Daryl’s character. Gimple l said he’d get his romance. And yet. Crickets. Leah was a literal decoy. Looks like Beth, but a horrific inversion. I am somewhat disappointed in the lack of Daryl focus, since he’s really the hero now.

Don’t get me wrong I LOVE Rick and am super excited, but I feel that’s a okay to entice viewers to come back to the franchise. I just can’t see them lopping off Daryl’s character like this without some sort of promise that he’ll find love, finally get to have “nice things.” I hope it’s not wishful thinking, but at this point, Daryl’s arc is verging on pure whump. He has earned a reward, and the fact they’re deflecting so much onto Rick makes me curious. Esp since Emily is learning lines. Idk.

Perhaps Rick and Michonne’s reunion will serve as a primer for this sort of thing, ie: long lost loves coming together. There hasn’t been a good epic romance in TWD really since Rick left. The closest we got really was Henry and Lydia, and ofc that ended tragically, and they were young. This season it’s Eugene and Max, but they’re solved. They’re happy. The decoy was removed. Just staring to get antsy for Daryl. Like we know he’s a badass warrior and a wonderful uncle to Judith and RJ. Time for him to get a little something for himself.

I’m only in the beginning stages of catching up, but the Daryl/Judith side-by-side stood out the most. Also, the bridal carry from the spoiler pics from a while back screams Beth/Grady entanglement to me, literal or symbolical, the imagery is the same. Whatever it ultimately means, I’m exited about it.

Also, Aaron mentions the intelligent walkers, which we’ve of course known about since World Beyond. So it’s no surprise they’re going to be a massive presence in the future, but nice to have it confirmed. And again, it brings me back to the juxtaposition of Morgan’s “it’s the fever that kills” and Alicia’s “isn’t the fever supposed to kill the infection”. The end is the beginning , there’s a massive paradigm shift happening and I feel very strongly that there’s going to be a cure/treatment/vaccine/immunity in the works, because that’s what we learned from Alicia’s symptoms, when the fever for the first time didn’t kill.

I’m going to have to watch the trailer a million times, but my first impression is that the Daryl/Judith side-by-side, with the blue Diamond is a massive “hello” to us from tptb. Also, suuuuper happy to hear about the Rick and Michonne spin-off. I’ve missed Rick. Good to have him back.

Oh yah. Daryl sliding his bike under a tree trunk gives me massive tree/three/trunk vibes.

The gun Daryl is holding, is that Rick’s Colt Python that Judith kept?

Ooh, also love the map/katana combo with the helicopters in the background. Lots of ways to interpret that.

It's Maggie leaning over another person. We don't know who that is laying down. Looking at it I'm wondering if it could be a smart Walker. If you look at the face it looks very veiny and dead looking so maybe they're going to show us some of these smart walkers. That's just my guess.

Hey Frangi! Love all your observations and looking forward to more!! I am certain that’s Rick’s Colt. I see it as an important moment because It’s Daryl “picking up the gun” after Rick put it down, and Rick “putting down the gun” in the “A” flashbacks is what starts the chain of events that leads to Coda. It epitomizes the false dichotomy of kill or be killed, or wolves vs. cattle.

The last time Rick sets down his gun, it’s as the shepherd, when he uses it to blow up the bridge and shepherd the walkers into the river, away from his flock. Michonne and Judith both pick up his gun after that, but I believe that Daryl, as the hero, picking up the gun is sort of like Rick passing the torch, and another signal toward a Coda “reset.”

We’ve been talking so much lately about all the coda replays in the series, like in “New Best Friends” and also “What We Become.” But a full reset, like what we see in “Them,” idk if that’s happened yet. Because even after Rick “dies,” the world doesn’t reset. It’s more like it keeps attempting to go on without him, without a hero at the helm. The hero is supposed to be Daryl, and it’s like he’s finally taking up that mantle.

No mention at all of Daryl’s future or spin-off. All attention has been funneled into the Rick spin-off!!

The other thing this makes me think of is 7x08, when Rick and Daryl hugged it out and Daryl returned the Colt to him after Negan took it. I didn't figure it out right away, of course, but as we started to learn more about the CRM, I started to realize that was a foreshadow of Rick and Daryl being separated when Rick went into the CRM, and then them reuniting at some point down the road.

I totally agree that Daryl carrying the colt would signal him taking up Rick's mantle as leader, but when it comes to the actual CRM war, I think Daryl will return that mantle to Rick, via the Colt, so that Rick will be the over arching leader, and Daryl will be his trusted right hand man and general. Which is how it should always be, imho.

I totally forgot about this. This is great. Daryl giving Rick his gun back can signal a couple things, a big one being that he knows he’s not “ready” yet to be the hero. And I love the idea of Daryl handing Rick the reins in the CRM war. But hopefully at that point it will be because Daryl has a new fight, aka: with Beth. Daryl’s journey has always been about being loved and finding love. He’s a romantic hero, in a way. And I think in this he is happy to be Rick’s “wing man,” or his lieutenant, particularly in “the Big Fight.”

Love all your thoughts on the gun stuff. My first thoughts was that it could potentially be a parallel to the scene where Carol gave Daryl Beth’s knife in 5x10. You might remember my arm = weapon rant from a while back. My hypothesis is that weapons are synonymous with arms, and that Beth’s knife and Rick’s pistol are synonymous because they are their respective signature weapons. And Rick’s gun was found on the river bank.

After FM I kept talking about how the river symbolized a borderland area between the realms. I feel like that’s what we see when Michonne finds his gun on the river bank. It parallels how we saw Jadis find Rick on the riverbank, barely alive, but alive. The gun represents Rick being alive. When Carol gave Beth’s knife to Daryl in 5x10, it symbolized her life and her character. The difference is that we the audience knew Rick wasn’t dead, while the audience was led to believe Beth was really dead. But of course TD knows how Rick and Beth are entangled in all kinds of parallels, so I see Beth’s knife as a proof of life, same as Rick’s gun.

The shot of Daryl looking at the gun in the trailer reminds me somewhat of how he was holding and looking at Beth’s knife in 5x10. My hope is that the scene in 11C is similar enough for us to know that it’s a parallel to Beth’s knife, which would constitute yet another parallel between Rick and Beth. Of course this reasoning could all fall apart if the scenes are nothing alike, but it’s definitely something I’ll be on the lookout for.

Plus, there something about these two shots that triggers my TD brain…

Ok then please tell us the state/decorations/background/etc of Kari's car/phone/bag/laptop.

I can see Kari having one of those galaxy-themed cases and cute little dangly things that look like stars and the Fairy Tail symbol, and always using a glass screen protector that she has to change out whenever Luffy or Kid 'borrows' her phone. Her background would definitely be a group shot of the crews, and the lock screen a candid shot of her boys being silly or roughhousing.

For a laptop, she would let the kids cover it with whatever stickers they want, from their favorite characters/sayings/bands to just silly sayings or puns, with the background a slideshow of the crews on vacations or out on a daytrip, the entire thing a little banged up from whenever someone borrows it.

Kari's bag would likely be a heavy-duty messenger bag, something that's built to be abused and take lots of strain, that she'd decorate with pins the others find for her, either with sarcastic sayings like 'I Am Just Going To Act Like This Never Happened' or cute little characters.

Car...I think she'd have something bigger, like a GMC Yukon or Jeep Wagoneer, a vehicle that could fit a lot of people and also traverse difficult terrain. She would be a total Mom, always with a cooler of drinks and snacks filled in the trunk, more than one First Aid Kit tucked under the seats, and all manner of charging cords, toys, books and headphones to keep the kids (and Luffy) entertained during long drives. The car would be a bit battered, but well-maintained, and while not clean on the inside, it's a well-planned chaos where Kari always knows where everything is.

As we can see, the theme of my blog looks nothing like Mazzy Star's album. In my head it was at least a bit similar. But again... if you get it, you get it.

I was listening to "Pure Heroine" by Lorde. It sounds great, I like how she has these hyperbolic(?) lyrics with minimalist sounds. She's really cool.

I went out again today. I hung out with my mother and we went to one of her friend's shop. I got a t-shirt with embroidery and a pair of white pants.

Those pants made me feel extremely ugly. It's so tight and I got aware of my legs. I hate them. I definitely should make some workout to make them thinner. Is there even something I could do? Probably.

I liked the t-shirt tho. It has an eye and some little symbols that I find mystical. The colour is like peach of a very light orange. It's great, I'd wanted something colourful. I suppose my mother liked what I got.

She got a t-shirt, too. It's cute.

After that, I went back home. I walked through a different street. It was a bit scary because I wasn't used to going through that place and I was alone. But it was a bit fun, feeling like a confused and scared person who is lost in their life. Sometimes you have to play someone else for entertainment.

Another thing to add to the list of dumb things I do.

I'm so exhausted... I'll watch TV for a bit and just go to sleep. I'm feeling miserable again. And I can't talk about anything else. I cannot be like the rest of the world, I cannot follow them. I can't do anything.

But anyway, I'm too tired to think about that. I'll simply let my brain rot with a fantasy world I'll end up creating if I stay inside these walls for too long.

But you rest well. Seriously. I hope you do.

Actress Hashimoto Kanna will star in a TV Asahi 65th anniversary drama “Banpaku no Taiyo” which is based on the 1970 Osaka Expo and will broadcast in March 2024.

In 1970 (Showa 45), the Japan World Exposition (Osaka Expo’70) was held for the first time in Asia, with the theme of “Progress and Harmony of Humankind” and attracted 76 countries (and 4 other international organizations, One government office, six states, three cities, and two companies) participated, and the number of visitors was approximately 64.22 million, equivalent to 60% of the nation.

The huge festival, which generated unprecedented enthusiasm and became a national event symbolizing Japan’s high economic growth, has been made into a drama with the super-luxury collaboration of Scriptwriter Nakazono Miho and starring Hashimoto Kanna. The story of the heroine’s youth and her family, who dreamed of working at the World’s Fair with the desire to connect with people all over the world, is delivered as a human home drama with a heartwarming touch.

The 1960s were in the midst of a period of high economic growth after post-war reconstruction. In this era when everyone was striving for a “better life,” the main character, Asano Kyoko (portrayed by Hashimoto), could not forget the excitement of the Tokyo Olympics (1964/1964) and began to yearn for “a place that connects with the world.” While staying at a relative’s house in Osaka, she began to develop her feelings for the Expo.

She grows up with encouragement and conflict from her freeloading family, and she realizes her dream of interacting with people from all over the world as a companion at the Expo. The film energetically depicts the passion of the heroine, Kyoko, and other characters who were involved in the Expo in various ways, as well as her family’s strong lives during the turbulent Showa era.

Hashimoto, who has recently started working on the series, said of the appeal of the work, “The most interesting part is about a positive girl who admires the World Expo and wants to interact with people from all over the world, and she works single-mindedly towards her dreams. It’s about running. It’s exhilarating and I think it’s a very sparkling piece of work”.

Hashimoto also said, “There are people who feel nostalgic thinking, ‘There was a time like this!’ and people of my generation and those younger than me can look at it with a historical sense and think, ‘This is what Japan was like!’ . Above all, I think it’s a work that will definitely make you feel positive when you watch it. Please look forward to the broadcast in March!”.

Art Deep Dive: Ines J.

Words cannot truly express how I feel about this artist! but i will try.

I discovered Ines J. on instagram where they go by the handle @a.creature (ive linked her direct instagram to this @ so it will not take you to a tumblr account of theirs, not sure if they have one but i will check and edit this after typing everything up if so!).

From what i've gathered, Ines is a very multifaceted artist that incorporates their work into a variety of mediums and trinkets. Im going to highlight some of the recent works of theirs that I'm absolutely obsessed with. to be honest, they're all fantastic though so i would definitely recommend checking their page out and getting lost in a surrealist paradise of wonky doodles.

my thoughts on the pieces are going to be in bullet form so bear with me.

this image reminds me of myself and im sure a lot of women feel the same

colorful blobs at the top, bubbles of experiences, memories that have passed, things that make you who you are, and the shapes get more specific and thought out in terms of painted construction as you near the woman (red star, blue circle, black teardrop, etc).

delicate nature of the wispy but sharp surroundings behind her, like a girly, cosmic barbed wire (luv it)

pink and overall colors mentioned before contrasts with the deep blue and black used to illustrate her, somber colors and face expression, head down

the vibrant red flower seems to be the focal point, most vivid spot in terms of color

to me symbolizes a feminine rage because it is so big, red and bright that it is something which naturally demands to be seen

her demeanor is the exact opposite, like a woman in society trying not to seem out of line even though she has every right to be upset

cultivating the flower, knowing when to let certain emotions bloom?

possibly being tired from not being able to let certain emotions bloom

Listen. If you find a niche fan blog devoted entirely to Ego Tae... I’m not gonna say it’s mine. But it’s probably mine. I once told suga-kookiemonster that I would literally read a story about Ego Tae going grocery shopping on a Wednesday night and I stand by that. In this lurid romp, the reader falls into the clutches of everyone’s favorite bohemian sex lord and he rails her into another dimension.

Falling, Falling, Gone by @johobi

Pining (mutual or otherwise) is not really my thing, but I would straight up read Jo’s laundry list if she posted it. As usual I was blown away by how everything she does seems somehow better than any other version of it. This reader is really unique as well, and her relationship with the wildly popular soccer star Tae comes to a sexy and hilarious head at a sort of bachelor auction. With sharp dialogue, delightful subtext, and fantastic side characters, you really shouldn’t miss it. It’s pretty much perfect.

A Friendly Favor by @baeseoul

This is the classic “teach me some sex for another woman” trope and it is done so well. Sweet best friend Tae is looking to benefit from your experience, but his is not the only world about to be thouroughly rocked.

Officer Kim and the Criminal Crush by @ddaengyoonmin

This is one of the best twists on childhood friends to lovers I have ever seen. Tae grows up to become a cop and reader grows up to be a societal menace. I won’t spoil it, but it’s the perfect blend of nostalgia, tenderness, and smut. This fic technically doesn’t have a name so I had to give it one to link it. It’s part of an AMAZING series Zoe did that I also highly recommend.

Out of the Blue by @jimlingss

This is one of those stories that blooms throughout the narrative until you are left with this gorgeous flower at the end. I loved the journey of these two characters. It was real and it perfectly captures the experience of finding your soulmate in the person you least expect.

Sin Pijama by @brilliantlybasicb

This fic is a switch culture fic. It is wild wicked hot and this Tae is unreal. I love the way he lets the reader think she is in control just long enough. It is a wild romp with an adorable sequel and honestly you should read it.

Girls Like You by @jjiminah

I was in jjiminah’s asks IMMEDIATELY about this fic because I had FEELINGS. the boys and their royal arms

I’ve rambled about this a little bit before on twitter, but I decided to finally sit down and get these thoughts out about noct, his boys, and the royal arms they use!

tldr, the royal arms prompto, gladio, and ignis use during the armiger chain (in addition to the talismans they can get and the boons the kings’ sigils represent in comrades) illustrate key aspects of their characters.

Introduction

Throughout Final Fantasy XV, Noctis and his retinue search for the Royal Arms, the weapons of the Kings of Yore. They're representative of Noct's birthright and his destiny as the True King. He and his companions, Prompto, Gladio, and Ignis, search for the weapons all over the world. As he adds them to his Armiger, not only does Noctis use the Royal Arms, but the boys wield them as well -- notably, in the Armiger Chain combination attack. Accumulating more of the glaives makes the chain last longer, and all four boys use every weapon in the collection together.

Beyond the battle mechanic, the Royal Arms each of them use carry a strong thematic element. Each glaive illustrates something about each young man -- their characters, their strengths, their weaknesses, their character arcs. This idea extends beyond just the Arms to the Kings themselves, present in their sigils in the Comrades expansion as well as the unique equippable talismans each boy receives.* These themes perfectly illustrate just how connected Prompto, Gladio, and Ignis are to Noctis -- they are fundamentally linked, inexorably bound together.

* (These are only present in the Royal Pack/Royal Edition. They are found in Insomnia in Chapter 14, either after completing all the Kingsglaive quests for Cor. I think. I don't remember... shhsdugif)

Prompto

"My whole life, all I ever wanted was friends... but no one ever wanted me back. So when I finally found people who did want me, I did everything I could to make them stay. And ever since then, I've lived my life in fear -- that one day, they'd find out who I really was, and they wouldn't want me anymore."

Prompto struggles greatly with self-doubt and rejection. He knows he's an outsider and feels that outsiderness to his core, even as a child. But in the face of that, he strives to play the mood maker -- he tries to hold the party together, keep the air light, and make people happy. He attempts to remain outgoing and cheerful, even when he's not, or nobody else is. Noctis and the others love him dearly, regardless of his origins, because he is who he is -- sweet, caring, talented, heartful, thoughtful Prompto. While he at once represents rejection and outsiderness, he also stands for unity and togetherness, and these elements are present in his connection to the Kings.

Prompto receives the talisman of the Clever. The talismans accentuate the boy's unique abilities, and Prompto's grants him increased critical hit rate and unlimited ammo for the SMG. Prompto's gunplay is incredible -- acrobatic, precise, and powerful. It's a far cry from how Prompto tends to feel about himself; he is skilled and capable, even if he doesn't believe he is. The Clever is the perfect mantle for him to carry to represent this.

Though Prompto doesn't use the Bow of the Clever in battle, the Clever fits him very well. The Clever is said to have been a king "versed in myriad arts both martial and intellectual." The Clever's weapon easily fits Prompto, but during the Armiger Chain, it's Noctis who uses it -- while Prompto wields the Sword of the Wise, which carries its own significance.

Noct uses the Bow of the Clever, it fits Prompto as a weapon: it's the only glaive that's projectile, aside from the Star of the Rogue, which Prompto also uses. It fires spectral arrows to skewer foes all across the battlefield. In addition, in the Comrades expansion, the Clever's sigil allows the bearer to summon spectral arms at will. It replaces the use of spells to summon eight special armaments to wield at once. It's a form of battle very appropriate to Prompto, isn't it?

The Clever is said to have been talented in many varied ways. The same could definitely be said of Prompto, whether he believes it or not. While a commoner, he keeps up with his royal companions in battle. When he knocks enemies off guard, he can deliver devastating blows to rival even magic. He can take photos in battle effortlessly -- something his companions love, except when Noct is being gnawed on by a daemon. But while Prompto sees himself as incapable, a burden to his team, he's well able to keep up with them, and strives to hold the group together. The mantle of the Clever fits him so well in this aspect.

But while Noct uses the Bow during the Chain, Prompto uses the Sword of the Wise. The Wise is the King who first erected the Wall and established the borders of the kingdom of Lucis. He was a notably mighty figure and protected the realm. His blade represents the foundation of the Kingdom, and Noct's birthright -- and while Noct uses the weapon that most fits Prompto, Prompto in turn uses the Sword of the Wise, a clear symbol of Noct's royal blood. He is more than capable and deserving to wield it, even briefly, despite how Prompto feels about himself.

Prompto also uses the Star of the Rogue. The Rogue was a figure reviled by the people. She "spurned the public eye and took to the shadows." It's a huge shuriken, and Prompto actually briefly wields it against the daemonified Rogue in the Citadel battle. The Rogue is a figure of royal power but rejection -- intensely shunned by the people, choosing to rule away from their eyes. She wears a mask in her armor; it doesn't appear to be a helmet or battle regalia, but rather a means of hiding her face, obscuring herself further.

The queen is a figure of stealth and prowess, but will never quite belong to the public, to her people. Only when she is gone is she remembered fondly by history. Prompto definitely feels he doesn't belong, and likely that he never will. He's a lonely child from a lonely home. He knows he's from the enemy nation, branded by them. For years, he doesn't believe he deserves to be Noctis's friend, and pushes himself to be good enough to finally approach him. Even when he's assimilated into Noct's retinue, he feels he doesn't compare to the likes of them, and fears the day they all reject him... even though the idea is completely unthinkable to them.

This idea extends nicely to the third Royal Arm Prompto uses, the Scepter of the Pious. The Pious is described as a king who "ruled the realm according to divine law and worked hand in hand with the Oracle." It's a weapon that strikes with a blade of light. It enhances magic and is particularly strong against dark elements. The Scepter is a weapon to represent unity, togetherness. The King worked with the Oracle -- a nice parallel to Prompto's correspondence with Lunafreya, and how she gave him the courage to befriend Noctis -- to unite Lucis. It's a weapon that represents strength in teamwork, in united people, breaking down the walls that divide them to live as one.

Prompto's use of the Royal Arms illustrate his biggest fears and greatest strengths. He's an outsider, terrified of rejection. But he's a dedicated and loyal friend, devoted to helping them and keeping them happy. Despite the differences that could potentially drive them apart, Prompto is a vital part of Noct's retinue. Despite his wavering confidence, he is talented and incredibly skilled. He's unique and irreplaceable, and his closest friends know that. One day, Prompto will, too, and he and Noct can knock down the barriers between their people once and for all.

"I owe Noct everything, for standing by me always. And now... it’s my turn to stand by him.”

Gladio

"I swore a vow to do whatever it takes to protect you and the future of our world."

So, let's get this out of the way: Gladio suffers from a tragic lack of character development. While this can be another sad side effect of XV's troubled development **, we can attempt to spin it into something subtle and quiet, illustrating Gladio's softer side. His connection to the Royal Arms shows that not only does he want to be strong, he wants to protect those he cares about above all else. Gladio is ultimately very caring and deeply, truly loyal, even though he's as hard and heavy as blade steel sometimes.

** (Rumor has it, Clarus, Gladio's father, was going to betray the Crown, and Gladio would face deep inner conflict over it, having to choose between his father's ideals and Noctis's journey. Apparently the role was given instead to Drautos/Glauca in Kingsglaive, who has a much more prominent presence in the movie than Clarus. None of this is confirmed, though, and isn't present in any released canon materials... so who knows. It's worth mentioning because it speaks to maybe their taking out Gladio's planned character arc and forgetting to put anything back in its place...here’s the reddit post that compiles the theories pretty well, if you’re curious.)

Gladio receives the Tall's talisman. When it's equipped, it accelerates the rate at which Gladio's valor gauge increases. His valor, in battle, best increases from uninterrupted combos and counterattacks, both appropriate given his nature as Shield, well-trained for battle but focused on defense. It's a simple boon that's incredibly valuable in battle, and battle is an inescapable aspect of Gladio's life. Along with the talisman, Gladio wields the Sword of the Tall. It's a broadsword, Gladio's preferred type of weapon. The Tall is said to have been "built like a mountain, towering over all others." It's a peculiar kind of sword with a chainsaw-like blade, which rips and tears mercilessly through enemies. For its incredible strength and vitality boost, it lowers elemental and magic defenses. This is matched by the Tall's sigil in the Comrades expansion, which greatly increases attack power at the cost of casting spells. The Tall's is a mantle of muscle, not mettle, but it's not the only King's presence Gladio carries.

Gladio also wields the Shield of the Just. His secondary preferred weapon is a shield, obviously focused on defense and counters. The Just is a queen of yore -- she and the Rogue are the only queens of Lucis present ingame. She is not given a name, but her armor has a massive silhouette, her presence immense. The Shield of the Just, as expected, offers Noctis huge defense. It greatly decreases attack to grant significant defenses, both physical and elemental. Its description describes the Just as a queen devoted to peace who was loved by all. Though her phantom visage is imposing, the Just is a strong, steadfast figure of peace, not violence. It's a strong contrast to the Sword of the Tall; if the Tall's is his blade, the Just's is his shield.

The Axe of the Conqueror is the third Royal Arm Gladio uses. While the Tall and the Just represent Gladio's strength and will to protect, the Conqueror represents willpower and moving forward. The Axe describes the Conqueror as a king who "performed great feats of arms, expanded his realm, and made his people prosper." This is all too appropriate for Gladio's role in Noctis's retinue, not just as his protector but his guide. When Noct can't move forward, Gladio pushes him. When he can't think, Gladio thinks for him. When things get difficult, Gladio helps Noctis grow and move on, whether he wants to or not. Gladio is a big brother, after all, and he wants only the best for those he cares about and wants them to succeed, just as the Conqueror did.

Gladio's use of the Royal Arms illustrates his boundless strength both in offense and defense. He carries a broadsword and shield and the needs of his companions. Gladio pushes forward. He is fiercely loyal and cares deeply for those around him, and pushes forward without hesitation, bringing those he must protect with him. Gladio wants to be strong, not only for the sake of power, but for the power to protect the ones he cares about. He cherishes the things he holds dear, and will protect them with all his being.

"You're right, I am afraid. ... Maybe I'm not really cut out for the job I'm expected to do. ... I may be all muscle and no mettle, but I'm gonna keep protecting Noct the only way I know how."

Ignis

"This world means nothing to me. Do with it as you wish. ... But I refuse to let Noct sacrifice his life to save ours. I won't let you take him away."

Ignis has served the Crown for nearly all his life. He's been Noct's companion the whole while -- his friend and brother, as designated by King Regis himself. Since he was a child, he's carried royal responsibility. He's composed, precise, and calculating, well-versed in all kinds of matters, political and not. He's a strategist, a royal advisor, and he keeps at Noct's side without hesitation. While he maintains a very cool, thoughtful demeanor, confronting problems with plans and logic, he has a relentless, reckless side. He is willing to resort to violence should the plan call for it, especially if the safety of Noctis and his companions is at stake. Ignis has a very smooth, calm surface with a deep, deep underlying intensity that rarely shows.

Ignis receives the Wanderer's talisman in the fallen Insomnia. When it's equipped, it boosts Ignis's Total Clarity gauge, heightening his senses and deepening his focus. In battle, Ignis uses strategic elemancy -- imbuing his daggers with fire, ice, and lightning -- and counterattacks. He doesn't utilize raw strength; instead, his battle prowess uses his strategic mind. Reaching Total Clarity allows him to unleash a particularly decisive blow. He is a fast, strategic, relentless attacker, perfectly carrying the mantle of the Wanderer. In addition, the Wanderer's sigil in Comrades carries an entirely supportive effect -- it casts Cheer on the party, heightening their abilities. It fits Ignis's penchant for strategy, supporting his comrades and planning instead of rushing into battle and relying on raw strength.

The Wanderer is said to have been "quick like the wind and went where no man had gone before." His swords "rain fury -- together they deliver thundering blows." The Swords of the Wanderer have three distinct forms, interlinked and not, to adjust to the needs of battle. The Wanderer was clearly a versatile, flexible fighter. He roamed the unknown and pressed on into strange territory without fear. "Wandering" implies a lack of a destination, focusing not on the end of the journey but shoving onward regardless.

It's too fitting that Regis tells a young Ignis something he will never forget: "One cannot lead by standing still. A King pushes onward always, accepting the consequences and never looking back."

When Ignis is blinded by his sacrifice and Noct disappears into the Crystal, the Wanderer mantle fits him even more. The light has disappeared from his world, both literally and metaphorically. He can no longer see -- greatly debilitating his extensive prowess -- and his life's purpose, being at Noctis's side, is left to the lurch. He investigates the royal tombs and the ruins of old civilizations to the best of his ability. He pushes on alone, not to prove anything to his friends but to himself. He refuses to burden anyone, even though the boys would never think that of him. He's left without a destination, without purpose, but pushes onward, always. He finds the ability to fight again, delves deep into the history of Eos, and holds onto the hope that one day Noctis will return. And, soon enough, he does, only for the prophecy to snatch him away once and for all.

Ignis also wields the Katana of the Warrior, which couldn't be more fitting for him, especially given his relationship with Noct. The glaive is even found in Fondina Castino in Cartanica, the boys' first stop after the catastrophe in Altissia. Ignis is blind, hating himself for every stumble, hating how Gladio and Noct fight while Prompto tries to stop them. After the retinue finds the Katana, Ignis finds his resolve and tells his companions he will continue, and if he can't keep up, he will not hinder them. He will gladly fall behind if it means they can push on together. "I would remain with you all," he says, "to the very end."

The Warrior's glaive bears a tragic description: "A king was changed forever when his beloved queen was taken from him prematurely. This was his katana." The weapon strikes swiftly, calculatedly, cutting down foes “in a single heartbeat." It carries magical defense but is especially weak to dark elements. The Warrior's mantle couples well with Ignis's losses throughout the story -- he loses his home, his sight, the light of the world, and his most beloved companion. Even then, he pushes on. He carries his sorrows and pushes onward, regardless, knowing full well the pain of losing everything that matters, and what else there is to lose.

The third Royal Arm Ignis wields is the Mace of the Fierce. The Fierce was said to be "gentle before his people but an ogre on the battlefield," dealing massive, crippling blows with his glaive. This weapon in particular illustrates the side of Ignis he keeps carefully hidden. For all his composure, his careful planning and strategic mind, he can be reckless, ruthless, and violent. When planning to infiltrate an Empire base, for instance, he's not above torturing someone to get information he needs. When he needs to get something done, he will get it done. When it comes to Noct's safety, he will do whatever it takes. He will gladly throw away his own safety, his sight, and his life to save him. This duality is nicely represented by the Fierce's glaive -- nice and composed, but cold and relentless when the situation calls for it.

Beneath his calm, placid surface, Ignis is a blazing fire. He's intensely driven, fiercely loyal, and wholly devoted to Noctis as he has been his whole life. He will throw everything away without question, even himself, if it means saving the ones he cares about. He is thoughtful and strong, careful and precise, but has a tendency to be ruthless, reckless, and destructive -- forgoing his own wellbeing to reach his ends. In the wake of tragedy, he pushes on, holding onto unwavering hope, unyielding devotion, unable to ever let go.

"Even if it costs my own life to save him... I will pay that price!"

All for the True King

The remaining four Royal Arms are used by Noct in the Armiger Chain. They, too, carry significance in his wielding them -- especially in the combination attack, symbolizing the unity of him and those he cares about. Noctis wields the Blade of the Mystic, the Bow of the Clever, the Trident of the Oracle, and the Sword of the Father during the Armiger Chain. The Blade of the Mystic stands for the Founder King. The Bow of the Clever is a weapon especially fit for Prompto, who then wields the Sword of the Wise, one of the fundamental figures of Lucian history. Noct's use of the Royal arms in the chain complements those his boys use, further symbolizing the unity and togetherness between them and the people -- and the whole world -- they care about. The Kings' stories are present in the Prince's friends, showing just how deeply connected they are to Noctis. There's no doubt Noct loves his boys dearly, and their thematic connections to the Kings and their weapons only illustrate how much they care about each other. They travel together, ride together, and rule together with the blessings of Kings past. Even in the wake of trial and tragedy, they remain inseparable, inexorably bound together, standing tall in the face of the dawn.

Bucky x reader imagines that live rent-free in my head (I'm not a writer, but I really needed to get these off my chest)

I'm typically Mandalorian-centric, so if you prefer to avoid this little tangent of mine I have added a cut for your convenience.

My ADHD has me daydreaming CONSTANTLY, so if you're reading this than you don't mind tumbling down the rabbit hole with me...

1) Chubby!Baker!Bucky x Coyote Ugly!Reader - Reader has a meet-cute with Bucky at his bakery right after it opens one morning. A case of PMS leads reader to the only bakery with a dessert that will help her feel better. Reader is a bartender at the infamous Coyote Ugly in New York, fluffy romance ensues, reader stops by every morning at the bakery to visit Bucky before the bakery opens, and sometimes he'll even wake up in time to drive/walk her home after her shift.

2) Fullmetal Alchemist - Bucky is insecure about his arm, so he tries to avoid letting reader see it. Reader is an anime fan and LOVES the series Fullmetal Alchemist, so they decide the best way to show Bucky how cool his arm is would be to introduce him to their favorite cyborg character: Edward Elric. Fluff ensues, Bucky jokingly refers to reader as his "Winry".

3) Supernatural/FaTWS - During one of his therapy sessions, Bucky can't help but notice that Dr. Raynor has a new piece of artwork hanging on the wall across from the couch. It's a strange symbol that seems a little cultish, but Raynor brushes it off as something she found to "add variety" to the room. Later another super soldier is spotted wreaking havoc on New York.....a soldier with long dark hair....black clothes...and a silver arm. Some dark themes. (The symbol in question is a tulpa, when Bucky concentrates on his past life as the WS, while staring the painting, he inevitably brings the "character" to life).

4) Bones/FaTWS - Reader is sick of how Dr. Raynor speaks to Bucky, and asks if it's possible for him to get a different therapist, one with better experience in handling a veteran. They enlist the help of former colleague Special Agent Seeley Booth to help convince his former therapist, Dr. Gordon Wyatt, to accept the position. Booth also provides some wisdom on how to live with red ledger as a former sniper, as well as having connections with the assassination of a president. Definitely some angst.

5) Law and Order SVU/FaTWS - Similar to the Bones crossover, except reader's former colleague is Dr. George Huang, a forensic psychiatrist and criminal profiler for SVU. Can Olivia Benson and Dr. Huang help heal Bucky in the way that he truly needs as a special victim himself?

6) The Mortal Instruments/Post-Endgame/Pre-FaTWS - Steve isn't actually dead, but fakes it in order to go into hiding so that he can finally "retire" in peace, but still stay in his regular timeline. The only people that know of this are reader and the people of Idris, Shadowhunters, who have agreed to give the great Captain solace in exchange for his services in helping to protect the sacred country. Because of Idris' supernatural protection, both divine and otherwise, Idris is undetectable by even Wakanda-standards, making it the perfect place to hide. Until Bucky finds out the truth, and demands reader take him there. Can he forgive Steve? And why was the Captain so desperate to run away from his best friend? AAAAAANGST.

7) Doctor Sleep/FaTWS - Reader is gifted with the "shining", and tries so hard to avoid accidentally side-stepping into other people's heads, but sometimes their efforts are futile. Reader accidentally side-steps into Bucky's head, and he hates the idea of yet another person messing around in there. He avoids reader as much as possible, but they're neighbors so they still encounter each other in the apartment building. One night Bucky has a nightmare, and reader can't help but sense it with the "shining", immediately racing to help. Angst for sure.

8) The Matrix/(whichever movie you choose honestly, they could all work)....- Instead of Agent Smith spreading like a virus, it was Hydra that attempted to overthrow the virtual world of the Matrix, and overpower the Machines. Steve is the "One" the free-minded have been searching for, he is freed from the alternate reality, but Bucky remains behind. Bucky's "infected" by Hydra, his programming is rewritten to become the Winter Soldier. Can Steve help free Bucky's mind from Hydra's control? Or will Hydra take over and destroy Zion for good?

9) Gilmore Girls/Chubby!Baker!Bucky x Reader - Reader moved to New York from Stars Hollow a few years back, but will occasionally go back for a visit to see their favorite Inn owners Lorelei and Sookie. Reader gushes about Sookies cooking and baked goods.......and a slightly jealous Bucky is a little miffed that his Cupcake/Peaches (you pick) enjoys someone else's baking besides his own.

10) Treasure Planet with Pirate!Bucky - Captain Steve Rogers is a respectable sailor who becomes an unfortunate pawn in a scheme to steal a spherical map that leads to the legendary Treasure Planet......and Pirate!Bucky will do anything to get his hands on some of the riches.

11) Conventions with FaTWS!Bucky - Reader convinces her grumpy boyfriend to let loose and enjoy a comic book/anime convention. Bucky thinks it's silly at first, but he can't help his fanboy side when he sees some people cosplaying as his favorite characters. There's also the dealer's rooms where he discovers the feeling of buying things he likes just because, realizing how much he missed choosing things for himself. Bonus points if Reader cosplays as one of his favorite characters.
