Lockwood & Co. Big Bang is here!

I've never participated in a Big Bang before, but I've jumped right in at the deep end and have had the priveledge of doing art for two teams whilst also writing my own fic! My first team, made up of the wonderful @ohmyoverland and @the-biscuit-agreement have our posting date today and I'm so excited to share the two pieces of art I made for this amazing fic!!

I made a moodboard for the fic overall, and I cracked out my sketchbook for the first time in almost a year to draw my versions of our faves, featuring in this fic as Lucy Carlyle, from Fittes; and Anthony Lockwood, from 1859!

There's close-ups of the drawings and the uncoloured line art under the read more!

I wanna give a big shout out to the organisers of @lockwoodandcobigbang2023, not only for putting together this immense project and all the teams, but for dragging me kicking and screaming out of my creatuve slump and inspiring me to not only write again, but brush up (hah!) on my long dormant art skills too ✨💕

Happy Lockwood & Co. Big Bang!!! :D I had the absolute pleasure of collaborating with @The_Dreamer_Half_Alive (on Ao3 :) on her fic for the @lockwoodandcobigbang2023 event; set post TEG, it’s truly so lovely and heartwarming, and I had so much fun doing a piece for it! We very much hope you enjoy :)

(SPOILERS FOR FIC CONTENT)

Okay, so I tried to put a bunch of little easter eggs from the fic and just in general in here, so if you’re interested:

Alright, to start off, I was generally very inspired by them getting a record player; I thought it was very sweet, and I loved the idea of them finally getting to relax and hang out in the library (the lack of chairs, I know; I couldn’t figure out how to put them in without blocking people lol) and locklyle dancing, with the record player on in the background, so that’s what I took as the basis of the scene!!

We had discussed that the characters were kind of a combo of both show and book versions, so I tried to add a smattering and hints of both when doing their designs!

The record is, of course, an Ella Fitzgerald record as mentioned in the fic (the record drawn is her Souvenir Album)

Holly is wearing her engagement ring, and wearing shades of pink and cream because that’s what she wears at her wedding (although shifted in hue to better match the color scheme of the piece lol)

Everyone (minus Flo) of course has their white strands of hair (which is *always* one of my favorite details to draw)

Lucy and George bake in the fic, but I think I had just read the Christmas mini story when I was doing my thumbnail for this, so Kipps ended up being the one bringing in baked goods; however, the baking mitts are orange and monogrammed with George's initials because I couldn't let that slip by, could I?

I wasn't quite sure what to put Flo in, because in the books she never takes off her boots or puffer jacket, but I wanted to throw in some sign that she was living at 35 Portland Row and becoming closer to all of them, (and her close relationship with George,) so I let her keep the boots, but traded the puffer jacket in for one of George's plaid shirts :)

The chess game also made it in because of the Christmas short story, lol

Lucy's blue star jacket!! When I read the fic, I was planning from the start to have her wearing the jacket, so of course it made it in :) I wasn't really sure what style it should be, though, so I ended up with kind of an odd mishmash of designs, but I think it turned out working alright!

The sapphire necklace, because, of course

I adore that Lockwood wears his pink socks throughout the entire show (well, most of the time they're the pink ones ;) so I wanted to include them (and then gave Lucy blue ones to match :)

The chipped blue mugs that Lockwood brings to Lucy for her tea after she wakes up from nightmares are on the bookshelf, and I couldn't find a way to directly include the Earl Grey tea they have, but I made the tea bag tags grey in honor of it

The green glow is the ghost lamp outside because if I can find a way to incorporate cool glows in my art, I will (and also on a more narrative-driven note, symbolizing the past danger they've been through and how some of it is definitely still present, but they have each other to heal with and finally be able to have some simple fun with, and are now curled up in the safety and comfort of 35 Portland Row :)

And finally, a big theme of the fic is them healing and building a happy life together, so I just wanted them to all be happy for once, and hence I put in my best efforts to draw them as such :)

In the mood for Regency ghosthunters? Look no further!

It was an honor to illustrate CandraJade's amazing story Reason in Madness for the @lockwoodandcobigbang2023.

We're writing the year 1811. Lucy's family has always been bothered by her "hallucinations" about voices no one else could hear. After a fatal accident at the mill she's working at Lucy finds herself at Bedlam, London's hospital for the mentally ill, infamous for the cruel way the patients are treated. Can meeting a mysterious stranger change her fate?

The final pieces for the last chapter of On the Wings of a Wild Grey Heron by @cats-and-metersticks for @lockwoodandcobigbang2023

I am so weirdly emotional at being done with this? It's been a staple every week for a while now, and it's going to be SO incredibly weird not having that to fall back on every week when things get quiet. I could not have asked for a better team to illustrate for! An incredible author AND an incredible cheerleader (@pininglikefinedining), who really didn't need to offer up as much encouragement as she did. The fact that I even was given the opportunity to try and put down visuals for the amazing, and frankly picturesque, words that she manages to pen down is so mindboggling to me. I am so incredibly grateful for a multitude of reasons that I was able to do this, and I really, genuinely, urge every person to go read the entire beautiful thing if they haven't already. It's so amazing.

it's big bang time!! here is my art for lazarus syndrome, a fantastic fic written by certes for the @lockwoodandcobigbang2023! so glad i could be a part of this fun event! also go read this fic, it's sooooo good and angsty!

The house was a towering, Victorian home, hiding amid a copse of trees at the end of a long, winding lane through the countryside. When the car rolled around the final curve in the road and the darkened edge of the house oozed suddenly into view, the sight of it struck them all quiet in the middle of their planning. Lucy felt a cold anticipation spill through her; not something drawn from her senses, but something wholly internal. “It certainly looks the part,” Lockwood said after they had hauled their things out of the car and parted ways with the driver. The house loomed in front of them. It was a combination of rust-coloured brick and dark wooden wainscotting, the kind that is going for a rich, burgundy brown and ends up reading closer to dried blood. “Personally, I think it’s a bit cliche when haunted houses look haunted,” George said. “Would it kill them to slap some colour on it?” “Maybe that’s how the original owner died, the one who actually lived here,” Lucy jumped in. “Livening up the paint job.” - (or: Lockwood gets ghost-touched on a mission to dismantle a pair of spirit gates. Lucy does something unthinkable to save him)

The yellow line at the edge of the platform was to keep people from getting too close and accidentally stumbling onto the tracks. The iron line just beyond it was to keep those who fell from coming back.

A Cot3 travelling circus au, with a touch of magic ✨ (Written for the Lockwood & Co. Big Bang 2023/2024!)

The living and the dead have always spoken equally to Lucy, and she doesn’t know where to focus any more. When disaster strikes at Jacob’s Travelling Circus, Lucy flees to London. There, she stumbles upon the world famous Fairfax Carnival, and falls back on an old con that her mother made her do as a child; swindling punters as a fake psychic. Lucy is content to blend into the background and be just another carnie, but when Annabel Ward, the trapeze star, disappears overnight, Lucy is forced into the spotlight in to a role she told herself she’d never do again. Add to that Lockwood's unhappiness about her getting a star act over him, and stopping the inspector investigating Annabel’s disappearance ratting her whereabouts to Jacobs; Lucy’s too distracted to even notice that the voices in her head are leading her right to the heart of the problem. She can’t ignore the signs forever, and when the mysterious figure lurking inside her crystal ball starts giving warnings about George and the Carnival’s secretary, Joplin, she and Lockwood must work together to figure out the dark secret behind the carnival’s popular attraction; the Hall Of Mirrors.

When Lucy, unable to find an agency that will take her upon coming to London, resigns herself to joining the night watch, a chance encounter with Inspector Barnes changes everything for her. Instead of becoming another nameless night watch kid, Lucy finds herself as Barnes’ assistant, working for DEPRAC, eventually making quite a name for herself at Barnes’ side. After Lockwood & Co's assistant, Robin, dies under suspicious circumstances, Barnes sends Lucy in to investigate. Together, they uncover a conspiracy that goes much deeper than any of them expect and proves more dangerous than any Visitor.
