hiya! I absolutely adore your art style, especially how you draw faces, and I was wondering if you have/would consider doing tutorials? I'm trying to pursue art and ive hit a bit of a wall. if you haven't done/don't want to do tutorials, are there any specific artists that you've drawn inspiration from or learned from that you can share?

Thank you so much! I've never produced any virtual tutorials--often when I tour for book events I'll do a live-drawing demonstration in addition to readings and Q&A, and I taught my first watercolor workshop last year, but I haven't put anything online in a while.

Some artists I've studied for a long time are Lois Van Baarle (@loish) and Julie Dillon (@juliedillonart). I have their work on my walls, and their art books both have great breakdowns of their processes. Another huge influence has been Claire Hummel (@shoomlah). Studying her work helped me gain confidence in my line art and lighting and, more recently, adding dimensional bulk to figures.

Two artists who were foundational for me when developing my style in the early-aughts are Heather Campbell (@makanidotdot) and Sarah Airriess (@tealin). These two are literally the bedrock I built my early skills on. Their work taught me how to draw faces, find dynamic poses, and visually communicate emotions. I still sometimes see Makani's influence in how I draw arms and ears, as well as my proclivity to end dramatic scenes with crudely-drawn comedy stings.

Some thoughts on Little Women and Beth. Under cut, just in case. If you haven't read the book, or seen the movies, you've been warned.

There's a book called Marmee by Sarah Miller, which is the events of Little Women from the diary of Marmee (obviously). I recently reread it and it is wonderful. It fleshes out a lot. Like Marmee and Beth going to the seashore together. So, naturally after rereading that, I went back to reread Little Women. And I think Beth got the short end of the stick. And, I'm not talking about her dying. I'm talking about how little we get of her in the book. The only real chapter from her point of view was when she gathered her courage to play piano at Mr. Lawrence's house. Even chapters that are about her are told from other viewpoints. Beth went to see the Hummels for days after Marmee left to take care of Mr. March. Why couldn't we have seen her there? We also know of at least one time when Laurie came by the house and it was just Beth there. Why not show that? We have one on one scenes between Laurie and every other sister but Beth. And, why not a chapter that shows Beth at the seashore with Marmee and what she did there and her experiences? She was there for a month. We got Amy in Europe so why not Beth at the seaside?

RJ wasn’t sure what to make of the Americans. They didn’t want to trust the pair - they had met enough slimy CIA operatives to know better than to trust them at their word. But they had brought the agents to the safehouse. Better indebted to the hitmen than dead.

“How the leg?” They almost felt guilty for trying to break her leg.

“Hurts like a bitch.” The woman - Sarah - hissed as she tried and failed to get comfortable where she sat on the couch, splinted leg elevated on the coffee table.

“Be glad it wasn’t me trying to curb stomp you, you fuckin’ yanks.”

“Casey.” The hitman knew RJ’s apathetic tone well enough to hear their chiding. “How’s your head?”

“I’m gonna kill Miguel.”

“Beat you to it big guy.” Harrison, the other American called from the kitchen. He could probably hear Casey’s grumbled curses. “Sorry ‘bout that.”

RJ considered it a minor miracle that the four had managed to a) get a few lucky shots on the club’s gunrunners and b) escape with half their people out of commission. The Drakes crew probably wouldn’t retaliate, seeing as their boys shot first. Probably.

“What the hell were you doing poking around an establishment like that?” They held out a hand to Harrison, who grabbed as second beer from the fridge before heading over. “No offense, C-I-A, but this isn’t your home turf.”

Harrison and Sarah shared a brief, wordless glance. They knew each other as well as RJ and Casey knew each other.

“We have permission to operate in this country. Although we will have to report this to our government contact.” Sarah’s voice was even, almost regal. She was well versed in toeing the line of this business. “We’re tracking down a new illicit substance distributor.” RJ nodded.

“Ambrosia.”

“I take it you’re familiar?” Her voice was monotone, but her eyes accusatory.

“Apparently.” Casey groaned, shielding his eyes from the dim overhead light. RJ felt a smile twitch at their lips. He always made fun of them when they had a bad hangover. They couldn't want to tease him about this.

“The distributor you’re looking for is Emmanuel Hummel.” They swallowed the poison on their tongue to say that name. Casey tensed where he sat in the recliner, but the Americans didn't seem to notice.

“How do you - ?”

“We’re killing him for personal reasons.” Casey huffed, bloodshot eyes glaring defensively at Harrison. “Although I’ll admit, this Ambrosia shit fucking sucks.”

“How do you know he’s the distributor?” Sarah’s eyes were sharp, calculating.

“I’m catfishing him.” RJ shrugged, ignoring Harrison’s confused expression as they shifted their body language and cleared their throat, voice lilting to a higher register. “Best way to put a knife in a man’s heart is to get into his bed.”

Even Sarah startled at their shift in presentation. It wasn’t perfect without their wardrobe change, but they knew they passed as well as they needed to. Liza taught them well, as bitter as it was to swallow that fact. Sarah's words were measured and slow:

“We need him alive.”

“I need him choking on his own blood.” RJ’s voice snapped back to its low growl, Sarah’s resolve unflinching.

“We need him alive for the time being.” Harrison was either brave or naive for not shrinking under RJ’s glare. “We just need access to his records and product, any jackass can take the fall once we have the evidence.” Casey scoffed.

“Since when did the CIA care about evidence?”

“Since they have competition in the controlled substances market.” Sarah’s eyes slid between her partner and RJ. “Like he said, so long as we get what we want, you can do what you wish with Hummel.”

“Since when did we need permission from a couple of yanks?”

“You don’t.” Sarah’s gaze held steady with Casey’s. “But, this would be easier for everyone if we didn’t have to deal with each other’s bullshit and instead worked together.”

“C'mon, it’s a proud tradition Casey.” RJ huffed, bitter amusement in their words as they took a swig of beer. “CIA loves letting people like us get away with shit when it serves them.” The toothy grin they shot at Harrison was hungry. “And it just so happens that everyone in this room wants to take Hummel down.”

“Many hands make light work.” Casey rubbed his eyes, sighing before letting his withering gaze sweep between the Americans. “Don’t step on our toes and we won’t cut off yours.” Harrison’s smile was painfully genuine, or he was simply a brilliant actor.

“I think we can manage that.”

Cine: Struck By Lightning (2012)

La carrera de Chris Colfer es sorprendente: en 2009 le tocó formar parte del monumental éxito televisivo y musical “Glee” (2009-2015), adonde interpretó al carismático y extraordinariamente talentoso Kurt Hummel, un rol por el cual ganó un Golden Globe en 2011. Un año más tarde desarrolló al máximo su faceta como escritor, publicando “La Tierra de las Historias: El hechizo de los deseos” (“The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell”), el primero de su saga de seis libros, un esfuerzo impresionante: cada libro ronda las 500 páginas. En ese mismo 2012 estrenó este proyecto en el que puso todo su talento como guionista, productor y actor.

“Struck by Lightning” tiene un comienzo sorpresivo: Carson Philips (Colfer) es el narrador de la historia... a pesar de haber sido fulminado por un rayo. Así, desde el Más Allá, da un vistazo a sus últimos momentos de vida. Cómo fue adquiriendo un tono sarcástico frente al mundo, merced principalmente a la separación de sus padres, mientras persigue su sueño de ser editor de medios como “The New Yorker”. Su obstáculo: es presidente de un club de escritores en el que abunda la apatía del resto de sus miembros. Su vida es tan poco estimulante como el resto del poblado de Clover: convive con su madre alcohólica y depresiva Sheryl (Alison Janney), su abuela (Polly Bergen) apenas sí lo reconoce debido al Alzheimer que padece y su padre (Dermot Mulroney) está a punto de casarse con la farmacéutica April (Christina Hendricks).

Para lograr la admisión en la Universidad a que quiere asistir, Carson funda una revista literaria escolar, buscando sorprender positivamente a sus autoridades. Como no hay quien se apunte a la idea, la única opción que se le ocurre es... chantajear a varios compañeros.

El divertido filme, dirigido por Brian Dannelly, no especifica la sexualidad del protagonista; dado que fue escrito por Colfer no es errado esbozar que haya querido imprimirle algo personal. Por caso, sí hay una sorpresiva pareja homosexual: la conformada por el gay de closet Nicholas Forbes (Carter Jenkins) y el presidente del club de Drama, Scott Thomas (Graham Rogers). Ambos caen víctimas de la extorsión de Carson, a la que también ceden la porrista Claire Mathews (Sarah Hyland), la gótica Vicki Jordan (Ashley Richards), el capitán del equipo de fútbol americano Justin Walker (Robbie Amell), el falso estudiante de intercambio Emilio Lopez (Roberto Aguirre) o el fumón Dwayne Michaels (Matt Prokov). También hay que añadir a la lista a Malerie Baggs (Rebel Wilson), su mejor amiga y siempre en estado de bloqueo de escritor.

3. Describe the creative process of writing a chapter/fic

this is actually a good question ‘cause I don’t know lol. normally most of my fic comes from a single idea; usually a specific scene that I have in mind. I’ll then either write that specific scene and build an entire fic around it, OR I’ll start writing towards that scene (so the same idea lol I just don’t write out the scene first). sometimes I have a longer idea so I’ll start plotting it out, figuring out different scenes that I want to be included. this usually happens in the dm’s of a friend as I plan out what to write, lol.

mostly though I just kinda throw out words and hope they stick!

4. Where do you find inspiration for new ideas?

I’ve actually very recently realized that I only really like to write and read canon verse fics (which makes a lot of sense when I look back on all the non-canon verse au’s I’ve abandoned over the years) and so canon is a huge part of it. I write a lot of slash fiction so it’s basically me consuming media and going “what if it was gay”.

then, like everyone else, I have my own headcanons and favourite tropes, so sometimes ideas just come from putting characters I like into those settings!

16. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Share one of them?

not a lot?? I had a lil surgery 2.5 weeks ago and have sadly not written anything since then lolol. however here’s a lil excerpt from a Puckurt long fic I’m writing! this is a pivotal moment even if neither boy realizes it lol

“Noah, what are you doing?” Kurt asked, his voice rising several octaves into a pitch that made the high F in defying gravity look like children’s play. “No. No, Noah, don’t even think about it!”

His pleas did absolutely nothing as Kurt continued backing across the kitchen, his eyes wide as he watched Noah’s menacing form get closer and closer. The larger boy was grinning at him, but his shark-like smile did absolutely nothing to stop the fear that was jackrabbiting through his heart.

“Noah…” Kurt tried again, one last time, but it was futile.

With a freaking war cry, Noah jumped forward and caged Kurt in against the wall. He seemed to loom over him, and Kurt cursed the couple scant inches of height separating them for the way it made Noah seem all-encompassing.

Then, Noah very, very gently ruffled his hair.

With a hand coated in flour!

“What is wrong with you, you barbarian!” Kurt squealed, trying to duck away fruitlessly. Sarah’s loud giggles echoed through the kitchen, and were very quickly joined by Noah’s own booming laugh as Kurt continued to swat at the other boy’s dirty hands. “Mercy! I call mercy!”

“There’s no mercy in war!” Sarah screeched from where she was standing on a step-stool next to the counter, and Kurt took a moment to appreciate just how ferocious she sounded before he heard the very familiar sound of a throat being cleared.

Noah’s eyes went wide and he immediately threw his hands straight up into the air from where they’d been hovering over Kurt’s waist.

This time, Kurt snickered.

“What’s going on down here?” Dad asked in a booming tone that was meant to be intimidating.

Kurt rolled his eyes, but Noah seemed petrified as he turned his head and looked at his dad like he’d been caught murdering someone.

“S-Sorry, sir, Mr. Hummel, sir, I—I was just—”

“I think you missed a spot, son,” Dad said with a warm laugh as he tapped his own nose.

“Dad!” Kurt cried in outrage before his eyes zeroed back in on Noah. “No. No, Noah, don’t you dare!”

Once again, Kurt wasn’t listened to.

No. Instead of listening to him, Noah swiped his whole palm across Kurt’s nose, no doubt smearing flour over half of his face before he danced away with another booming laugh that was echoed by Sarah and his very own father.

With a start, Kurt realized two very important things. First, this was the first time he’d ever heard Noah laugh so genuinely, and secondly, this was the happiest his house had sounded since his mother had passed.

Slumping against the wall, Kurt took a moment to just breathe. Thankfully Noah had already turned away from him, stepping back a respectable distance. It made him want to laugh a little hysterically, because there should be absolutely no reason that Noah needed to step back a respectfully distance, but Kurt could still feel the phantom weight of Noah’s arm across his waist, and he could remember how warm he’d been with Noah’s bare chest pressed against his back.

“Sorry if we woke you up, sir,” Noah said politely. More politely than Kurt knew he was even capable of.

“S’long as you’re staying here you might as well call me Burt, kid,” Dad told him, clapping a steady hand on Noah’s shoulder.

Kurt knew exactly how comforting the gesture could be, and he smiled even as he finally moved back across the kitchen.

He dipped his finger into the bowl of waffle batter, and tapped Sarah on the nose.

“You were a terrible teammate,” Kurt told her, grinning when she stuck out her tongue at him.

“No got to me first,” Sarah said as she kept mixing together the eggs and milk.

Kurt hummed critically as he eyed the bowl. Then, he gave her a look, and said, “I respect the hustle.”

She high-fived him.

Kurt absolutely did not feel like he was going to spontaneously combust at the sheer, overwhelming amount of cute.

“What’s all this?” Dad asked, coming further into the kitchen.

He was still in his pajamas, but he was carrying his water bottle with him and it was empty, which meant that he’d started his day by hydrating.

Kurt beamed at him as he listened to Sarah explain their breakfast plan.

“We’re making waffles!” Sarah announced grandly. “I’ve never had waffles before, and Kurt said that they were even better than pancakes, which I’m not sure I believe because pancakes are the bestest things ever.”

“That sounds like an excellent start to an excellent Saturday,” his dad said in the same grand voice, and Kurt smiled warmly.

It really did sound like an excellent start to an excellent Saturday.

Johnson estava ligado ao Shazam! (2019) no início do desenvolvimento, e confirmou que ele interpretaria o vilão Adão Negro em Setembro de 2014. Os produtores decidiram dar ao personagem seu próprio filme em Janeiro de 2017, e Sztykiel foi contratado em Outubro. Collet-Serra ingressou em Junho de 2019 para uma data de lançamento planejada para Dezembro de 2021, mas esse cronograma foi adiado pela pandemia do COVID-19. O elenco adicional ocorreu no ano seguinte, inclusive para membros da Sociedade da Justiça da América (JSA), e o roteiro foi reescrito por Haines e Noshirvani. As filmagens ocorreram de Abril a Agosto de 2021 no Trilith Studios em Atlanta, Geórgia, e também em Los Angeles.
