so i’ve read your entire fanfic recs lists and thank you so much for making it!! it introduced me to some of my fave fics like I Think It’s A Real Waste by Jaded Angel and That’s My Baby by kezztip (not including your works of course because i love them all). but now i’m at a lost of what to read. do you have any current fics or fics you would add to your lists?

Eric never left to Africa, and Kelso is in Chicago with Brooke, but is still around. Donna sticks to her feminist values like in the early seasons and is a better friend to Jackie. Jackie is close to the Forman's as well, and her relationship with her father will be prominent and better here as well. Overall positive with some angst.

Arrived and Settled!

Hello! It has been quite a process, but I made it into Italy two days ago. When we arrived and after the plane landed, it took us two hours to get to downtown Firenze. I met my roommates, and we moved in. The apartment is small and quaint, but we will get it fixed up in no time (an apartment tour will be coming soon). Yesterday, we had orientation for the program and are getting to know what is to come! I am very excited because it seems like it will be a relaxing change from my normal schooling.

Our program leaders took us on a tour yesterday. We hit all the big landmarks like the Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, and Palazzo Vecchio. After the tour was finished (at like 3), we finally had something to eat! Our group went to Pino’s Panini which was by far the best panino I have ever had in my life. It was a restaurant geared toward university students. He had all of our pendants on the back wall! After we went there, my roommate and I went to this gelateria recommended by our program leader, and it was the best pistachio gelato I have ever had! It revolutionized the way I think about ice cream and was 2 euros.

After that, we soon went into the evening making sure to stop by the supermarket to grab some food for ourselves. It is called CONAD, and is extremely popular in Italy. The supermercato was amazing. There are quite a few rules about the market like you aren’t supposed to touch the fruit and put it back, and reusable bags are a must! Preservatives also aren’t very popular in Italy, so you aren’t supposed to buy a lot or you will spoil your food. I spent about 40 Euros on my things that will hopefully sustain me for a little while for basic ingredients like butter, flour, etc. Italians go grocery shopping like 3 or 4 times a week as opposed to how we shop which is like once a week. It is something they can just pick up on the way home since it is located in a residential area. Everything is mixed-use housing which is making the urban planner in me really satisfied. The grocery store was chaotic, but it was a really fun first experience.

Today, we went to the Piazza Santa Croce to meet our program leaders. In the piazza, there was a gigantic basilica. The square was a place where kids played, music filled the square, and older couples were taking a stroll. The city is filled with a lot more locals than I remember from our first trip to Italy. The streets are crowded, but it isn’t an absurd amount of people.

Lastly, we made it to the Piazzale Michaelangelo. This is where about 50 or 60 of the students participated in the hike to reach the top of the best view in Florence. After taking an extremely long way to reach the Piazzale, we discovered a bit of some countryside. We didn’t have to go up a bazillion steps like the first time we went to the Piazzale. We also saw the house of Tchaikovsky (the guy who wrote Swan Lake and The Nutcracker), the house of Galileo Galilei (the astronomer), and the place where Caterina de' Medici married the King of France.

Learning Italian keeps getting easier the more that I hear it. I am doing really well with foods and figuring out different words using context clues and Spanish. Hopefully, my Italian class will really enhance my learning of the Italian language. I am planning on labeling everything in my apartment in Italian so I can learn some different words to enhance my learning. I have also religiously been listening to Italian music trying to understand words I don’t know and recognizing words I do know.

For now, I will be signing off. My roommates and I are planning on buying some decorations and amenities for our house. School starts tomorrow, but I will write soon to try to help keep everybody informed of my travels.

Fact: Lily’s are the flowers of Italy brought by Caterina de’ Medici for her wedding.

Grundarfjörður, Iceland 🇮🇸! A photographer captures the northern lights near Kirkjufell, a 463-metre-high mountain known as the Witch’s Hat in the north of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. The mountain was one of the filming locations for Game of Thrones.

California, USA 🇺🇸! A man fishes at North Lake in Irvine. Dense fog covered much of Orange County.

West Dover, Canada 🇨🇦! Boats loaded with traps head out in a snow squall as the lobster fishing season starts, representing a $500m industry.

Dancing in the snow by Qiang Guo, China 🇨🇳! In the Lishan nature reserve in Shanxi province, China, Qiang watched as two male golden pheasants continuously swapped places on this trunk – their movements akin to a silent dance in the snow. The birds are native to China, where they inhabit dense forests in mountainous regions. Although brightly coloured, they are shy and difficult to spot, spending most of their time foraging for food on the dark forest floor, only flying to evade predators or to roost in high trees during the night.

Barracudas by Yung Sen Wu, Taiwan, China 🇨🇳! Yung had been swimming with the schooling barracudas at Blue Corner, Palau, in the western Pacific for four days, but their formation constantly changed shape and he could not find the perfect angle. On the fifth day his luck changed when the fish seemed to accept him into the group. Surrounded by the barracudas, he started to imagine how one fish sees another while swimming, and this was the picture he wanted. The fish were fast, and he had to swim hard to keep his place in the school. At the end of an exhausting 50 minutes, he got his perfect ‘fish eye’ view.

Breath of an Arctic fox by Marco Gaiotti, Italy 🇮🇹! Marco was watching this little Arctic fox as it incessantly called another nearby. Gradually he noticed the fox’s wet breath was quickly freezing in the air after each call. It was late winter in Spitsbergen, Svalbard, and the air was -35C (-31F). Photographing Arctic foxes is often frustrating, as they are normally running around fast in search of food, but this one was very relaxed and let Marco get close enough to focus on it, with the light glowing perfectly in the background.

Hope in a burned plantation by Jo-Anne McArthur, Canada 🇨🇦! Jo-Anne flew to Australia in early 2020 to document stories of animals affected by the devastating bushfires in New South Wales and Victoria. Working alongside Animals Australia she was given access to burn sites, rescues and veterinary missions. This eastern grey kangaroo and her joey, pictured near Mallacoota, Victoria, were among the lucky ones. The kangaroo barely took her eyes off Jo-Anne as she walked to the spot where she could get a great photo. She had just enough time to press the shutter release before the kangaroo hopped away.

Lake of ice by Cristiano Vendramin, Italy 🇮🇹! Santa Croce Lake is a natural lake located in the province of Belluno, Italy. In winter 2019, Cristiano noticed the water was unusually high and the willow trees were partially submerged, creating a play of light and reflections. Waiting for colder conditions he captured the scene in icy stillness. After taking the image, he was reminded of a dear friend, who had loved this place and is now no longer here. ‘I want to think he made me feel this feeling that I’ll never forget. For this reason, this photograph is dedicated to him’.

The jump by Karl Samitsch, Austria 🇦🇹! While visiting the Cairngorms, Scotland, a friend took Karl to a forest where red squirrels were used to being fed. They placed hazelnuts on opposite branches of two trees and Karl positioned his camera on a tripod facing the direction a squirrel might jump. Setting his camera to automatic focus, he waited behind a tree, holding a remote control. After less than an hour, two squirrels appeared. A bull elephant had been trying to separate the calf from its mother. The herd reacted instantly – blowing loud calls, flapping ears, then surrounding the young and reaching out their trunks for reassurance. Elephants create bonds that last a lifetime, and they can show emotions from love to anger. Peter says: ‘There is something magical and beautiful when you observe elephants – it touches your soul and pulls at your heartstrings’.
