Rocking Chairs. (s. harrington x reader)
‘I WANT MATCHING ROCKING CHAIRS.’
【𝜗𝜚 warnings; r & stevie talking about their future (established relationship), kids, and growing older together! just pure fluff! mentions of season four - but everyone is safe, mentions of blood, skin picking.
【𝜗𝜚 an; this one was a joy to write!! thank you so much for the request, i hope you enjoy it, i also sort of changed it a bit, i hope you don’t mind! it’s still s4 just after everyone is good and home!
Tumblr media
1986.
The water had turned brown, slipping down the drain of Steve Harrington’s bathtub.
Your skin still felt clogged, and your hair felt as if there were still a dirt and - somehow - blood caked onto your scalp.
You could wait til tomorrow to take another. Steve was still waiting patiently to take his own shower, allowing everyone else to shower before him.
Eddie was far too grateful, saying that he smelt like garbage, literally.
Robin was just glad to be out of clothes and into oversized ones.
Max was still waiting on you to braid her wet hair, she also wanted to make sure she was really alive and not dead. And you braiding her hair would make her somehow believe that it was real, that she was okay.
That everyone was okay.
You walk down the steps, scrunching your hair with the towel. The green sweats Steve had laid out for you were too big, the bottoms getting stuck under your heel as you walked. But cozy.
You loved wearing his stuff. It smelt just like him.
Mahogany, vanilla, a little musky, and a little bit of hairspray.
You stop in the archway that leads into the living room, smiling a bit as you watch everyone. Eddie had made it his mission to finally eat a meal - but had made a bowl of popcorn.
He was too tired to eat a real meal. He could do that in the morning.
Robin was leaning against the couch on a couple of blankets, picking at the loose skin around her nails. She was still nervous, this being her second time defeating something this big.
The television was playing for some noise, the volume turned low, but low enough everyone could watch if they wanted.
Dustin, the poor kid, was passed out. Snoring, lips parted with a bit of drool falling down his chin and onto his hand, curls completely unkempt and still air-drying.
No one said anything though.
Lucas was in the middle of Max and Erica, his pinky intertwined with Max’s. The girls walkman next to her, just in case.
Nancy was beside Robin, quietly chastising the girl for picking until she bleed.
Robin blushes when her petite hand reaches out and pulls it away.
You glance over at Steve. He had pulled a wooden chair up from the dining room table, not wanting to get the cushions dirty.
His eye were droopy, but glancing over at everyone. He had set up the blankets and pillows, making sure they were comfortable and no one would be uncomfortable sleeping on the floor.
There was an air mattress currently being filled, waiting to be used. That should be done in a moment.
You step up towards him, placing your hand on his shoulder. “Hi, handsome.”
He blinks lazily, tilting his head back as he stares up at you. He grins softly. “Hi, honey.”
“Showers ready for you,” You bend down, pressing a kiss to his forehead. You don’t care if it’s streaked with a bit of dirt, you want to kiss him. “I laid out some clothes for you. And a towel and rag is on the counter.”
He lets out a deep sigh, standing and grunting as his knees crack. “Thanks. That definitely saves me some time.”
You smile and press a kiss to the corner of his mouth. “Don’t fall asleep in there.” You tease.
He rolls his eyes playfully. “I just might.” He squeezes your side lovingly, walking towards the stairs.
You turn to Max, smiling softly. “Hey, red,” You tease. She turns to you, her mouth quirking upwards slightly. “Ready to do your hair?”
“Yeah.” She nods, smiling. Before sitting in behind her, the phone rings. Nancy stands from the ground.
“I’ll get it.” She says. You nod at her, watching as she walks away. You sit in behind Max, eyes glancing over at Dustin again.
He had rolled onto his back. You smile a bit and reach up, fixing the blanket. You then turn back to Max, grabbing the brush next to her leg.
You brush through her red locks. “You okay, Lucas?” You glance at him. His eye had went down a bit from the ice pack you had grabbed him before getting into the shower yourself.
Lucas glances back at you, before eyes trail over to Max. Her eyes were closed, a small smile on her lips feeling your fingers part her hair into two sections. He smiles softly at the sight and nods.
“I’m okay.”
You smile, heart fluttering for the two teens. Your eyes then glance at Eddie, lips slick with butter. You then look back at your fingers.
“How about you, Eds?” His brown eyes leave the television.
“Perfect. That was my whole workout for the rest of the year.” He lets out a huff. You laugh softly, shaking your head and wrap a hairband around her hair. It might fall out while she’s asleep, but that’s okay.
“Erica, you okay?”
“Yeah,” She was quiet, which was unusual but understandable. “Just tired.”
You nod, starting on the other section of Max’s hair. “Get some sleep. You deserve it.”
Erica nods, glancing at Lucas. He nods a bit. She moves down into the covers, pulling the blanket up more.
In record time, she was out.
Nancy finally makes her way back into the living room, slipping back down next to Robin. You glance over at her, finishing Max’s braid.
“Hopper’s alive.” She says.
Your eyes widen and you pat Max’s back softly. She moves down more, laying her head into your lap.
“He is?” You ask softly.
She nods, curls bouncing with the motion. She smiles. “They’re all on their way back. Jonathan, Mike, Will, and El too. Joyce and Murray.”
“Thank God they’re okay.” You let out a breath.
“Who?” Steve asks as he steps into the room. Eddie stands and makes his way into the kitchen with an empty bowl.
“The rest of the group,” Nancy looks over at him. You look up at him, smiling once you see him. “They’re on their way here. Hopper said he’d help out Eddie.”
“Oh, thank heavens,” Eddie breathes out, plopping to a chair. He swings his legs over the arm. “I thought I was gonna have hide out in Harrington’s basement for the rest of my life.”
Steve narrows his eyes at the boy who grins. “No. You wouldn’t.”
Eddie only grins because he knows Steve would let him. You’d talk him into doing it.
And he’d listen. Like he always does.
You lift Max’s head, moving out from under her and placing her head onto the soft pillow, then gently pull the covers up and over her shoulder.
You stand from the ground and pull the air mattress over. “Who’s getting the mattress?”
“Me,” Eddie scoffs, standing and wrapping a blanket around his shoulder. He makes his way over and lies down on it. “I slept in a boat and the ground. I deserve this.”
Steve tosses a pillow at him. He catches it and slips it under his head and sighs. “Ahhh, this is nice.”
You snort lightly, making your way over towards Steve. “You guys okay? Do you need anything?”
“Earplugs.” Robin mutters, jabbing her thumb over her shoulder to Dustin. Steve smirks, shaking his head. “Poor boy. He’s just sleepy.”
Robin narrows her eyes at him. “He’s worse than you.”
“I do not snore.”
Robin tilts her head and looks at you. You giggle. “You do. It’s cute though.”
He lets out a noise shaking his head. “You can sleep down here with them.” He pushes your head away gently with his hand. You giggle.
He turns back. “You guys need anymore blankets? Pillows?”
“No. We’re okay, Steve,” Nancy smiles. “Thank you.”
Steve gives a small smile back and nods, his hand wraps around your side. “Okay. Don’t be afraid to come get us.”
They all nod, saying goodnight and slipping more under the covers. You follow Steve upstairs and leave the door open just a smidge.
You turn around, grinning when you see Steve holding the blanket up so you can slide in. You quickly make your way over, slipping into the bed. The sheets were a bit cold, but that’s okay.
He places the covers down and immediately reaches for your hand, pulling it towards his face and pressing a kiss to your palm.
You smile and lean forward, pressing your own lips to his quickly before resting your forehead against his.
“You okay?” You whisper.
“Mhm,” He nods. “Just thinking.”
“About?”
“Our future,” The moon was casting enough light into his room, casting a pretty glow across his face, some of his features almost looking carved by the light. There was a small sparkle in his eye. “Our wedding, six kids, watching them grow while we grow old together.”
You smile and scrunch your nose. “Six kids?” You lift a brow.
“Yep. Six little nuggets running around,” He nods. “I hope they look like you.” His finger traces down the slope of your nose, before smoothing the lines between your brows when you pinch them together.
“Don’t give me that look.”
“Why me?”
“Because. They would be even more cute.” He grins, pressing a quick peck to your forehead before pressing his back to yours.
“Well, I want them to look like you.” You lift a brow.
He pinches his own brows now. “I’ll win, like always. They’ll look like you.”
You roll your eyes, shaking your head a bit, your hair scrunching up by your ear. “Whatever you say, Stevie.”
You both stay silent, eyes taking in each other’s features. Your eyes flit down to his neck, fingertips tracing over the bruise.
“Does it hurt?”
“Only a little.” His fingers wrap around your wrist softly, the pad of his thumb tracing over the inside of your wrist softly.
“I was scared,” Your eyes burn a bit. “Watching you get choked. Twice.”
He frowns. “I’m okay. I’m still here.”
You nod, eyes looking back up at his face. He wipes a tear away. You notice some of his curls forming. You run your fingers through his hair softly.
“I love you.”
“And I love you,” He nods, tapping your nose. “Oh, one more thing.”
“Yeah?”
“I want matching rocking chairs too,” He nods. “When we’re wrinkly and have to wobble to the front porch and drink tea.”
You giggle softly. “Six kids and rocking chairs?”
“Six kids and rocking chairs,” He nods. “I’ll have them made. We can watch all our grandkids play out in the yard.”
You grin at him, nodding. “I’d love that.”

What had just been a moment of relative relaxation, quickly turned to one of panic.
One minute, you’d watched as Jean and Connie bickered over a bottle of wine in one of the MP’s cabinets, while Commander Hange spoke quietly with the Braus family before aiding Jean in cleaning off a ‘poisoned’ a young Marlian boy, Falco.
But the moment Niccolo lunged for the young Marlian girl, Gabi, shit hit the ceiling. The Braus’s adopted daughter lunged for the girl, screaming and crying out obscenities. You watched on helplessly as Niccolo took a swipe at Gabi, having only just learned of the girl’s murder back in Marley.
Sasha…poor Sasha. The memory of her death still haunted you every night you slept. To see her murderer, a young girl, standing before you uncharged and free of imprisonment…It hurt. But she was a child, you knew. A poor, brainwashed child.
Before you could even attempt to take action and aid the situation, the door behind you creaked open. Looking over your shoulder, you spotted Floch and his ‘followers’; a mix of MPs and what was left of the Scouting Regime soldiers.
By the time Hange and Jean returned to the dining room, you and Onyankopon were already being held at gunpoint.
“What’s wrong?” Hange asked in haste when she heard a muffled yelp from Onyankopon, but froze at the scene before them.
“Commander Hange,” Floch greeted coolly, ignoring your persistent glare. “I’m glad you’re here.”
Floch lowered the gun aimed at your head, and turned to Hange. “I imagine you know where Zeke’s at…We’ll have you take us there.”
You were only a second away from opening your mouth to retort his absurd statement, when Armin’s startled yelp from the adjacent room made your blood run cold.
“Ere-“
Eren…
Without giving it a second though, you raced to the side of the room towards the doors, paying no mind to the soldiers who held guns to your back. You had to go. You had to see him…
“Let her,” Floch’s airy tone caught you off guard, making you pause with your hand on the door handle.
“He’s expecting her presence too, you know.”
The guards lowered their guns from your back, and you took this moment to race through the double doors.
Behind you, you faintly registered a sinister chuckle coming from Floch, but you ignored him in your haste.
You slammed the door behind you quickly, and took a look around the nearly vacant room. And there he stood; just before you at the head of a round table in the very center of the room.
Armin and Mikasa sat with their hands placed palm down on the table cloth, eyes wide and shoulders stiff. Gabi was with them, tense and shaking in utter fear. You visually checked them over for any sign of injury, and when you found none and relaxed. But only slightly. You took your eyes off of your comrades, only for your eyes to suddenly met his.
Eren gave you no sign of emotion as he looked into your eyes from across the room. If anything, he looked bothered. His hair was slightly disheveled, and his clothes worn. But the look of indifference on his face only made his overall appearance look more menacing.
“Y/N, you’re here. Please, take a seat.” He spoke in a low tone while pulling out the chair he stood behind with gestured for you to take it. Taking a shaky breath, you decided to follow his ‘request’ and strode forward to accepted the seat.
“Eren-“ you began, but he cut you off.
“Hands on the table, and don’t remove them.” He shoved your chair into place, and swept his gaze across the four of you.
Despite his glare, you thought he looked…Weary. Sad, perhaps.
After a long pause, he broke the silence suffocating the room.
“As I said; I wanted to talk, with you guys.”
You remained silent and still in your seat, your fists clenching at the table cloth when you noticed the gash formed across his palm.
A warning to you all.
“Conflict isn’t necessary to solve Eldia’s problems.”
Behind you, a grandfather clock ticked against the wall for every silent second that passed his statement, setting you on edge.
“Eren, we’re the ones who wanted to talk.” Armin spoke up, his gaze sharp and focused. “What made you attack Marley all on your own? Did Zeke and Yelena really talk you into joining them?”
The question had been nagging at you for some time as well, but for now you remained silent.
“I am free,” Eren stated solemnly. “The things I do and choices I make are all decided by my own free will.”
“No…No, you are being manipulated!” Mikasa suddenly grit out, leaning over the table and standing up. “You wouldn’t have involved the lives of children and innocents, even if they were enemies!”
Eren kept silent, merely listening to her outburst. But before he could respond to Mikasa’s allegations, you found it within yourself to finally speak up as well.
“Eren, I know you care about us. More than anyone!”
You stood up from the table, removing your hands from the table to place them onto Eren’s broad shoulders.
“Don’t you?! The reason you saved Mikasa…Armin…Me…You love u-“
“I said to keep your hands on the table, now do it,” Eren cut you off with a harsh glare, switching gazes between you and Mikasa. Mikasa slumped back down into her chair in defeat, clutching at her scarf. But you remained standing, tightening your grip on his shoulders.
“Eren please, why won’t you stop this?!” You cried out.
“I said, sit.” Eren spat back through clenched teeth, forcibly removing your hands from his shoulders.
A pang of hurt shot through your heart, making your chest feel heavy. Furrowing you’re brow, you reluctantly sat and placed your hands back onto the table.
Once you were all sat and silent, Eren continued.
“I spoke with Zeke in Liberio; brother to brother. Zeke knows more about titans than even Marley as a whole.”
He paused, turning his attention to Armin.
“Armin, aren’t you still visiting Annie? Do you think that’s if your own free will?”
Armin froze, his eyes blown wide.
“If memories are what shape people, a part of you is Bertholdt now. Within you is an enemy with feelings for another enemy. Armin, Bertholdt has gotten into your head.”
Armin sat in shocked silence, staring blankly back at Eren. You took this moment to make a decision.
For better or for worse, you had to try…
“Then what does throat make me, Eren?”
Eren turned to look at you, raising a brow. He seemed to not have expected you to speak up again so soon, if at all. But curiosity got the better of him, and he gave you room to speak. So you continued.
“You dare accuse Armin for being lost to memories of another, for falling for another that. is the enemy. So what does that make me, huh? Am I now an enemy, too?” You spoke quickly, feeling a need to get it all out.
After all these years…
“What are you talking about, Y/N?” He drawled out. “You have no part in this conversation. You are Eldian and not a shifter. You know what I’m saying doesn’t apply to you.”
“Oh, but doesn’t it? Don’t my feelings for you count for anything? You cant call Armin an enemy without accusing me as well!” You cried out, taking a stand once more.
Eren’s eyes widened; it seemed he wasn’t expecting this. “Y/N…I-“
Mikasa cut him off this time with a hell, not minding his sudden glare on her for interrupting.
“Eren, what could you possibly be sayin-“
“The Ackermans, too.” Eren scoffed, now standing as well beside you. “The Ackermans were intentionally designed to protect Eldia’s king. Back then, when faced with life and death you heeded my order; Fight.”
“No…Protecting you was not a mistake…” Mikasa whispered, fear in her shaky eyes.
“It was because of you I became strong, Eren!”
“No, Mikasa. Your family was made to forget who they are and love only to protect. You are slaves.” Eren scowled, his eyes narrowed dangerously. Their conflict gave you a headache, but you knew better than to speak up just yet.
“Eren, enough!” Armin suddenly called out, taking a stand with the rest of you.
“Do you know what I hate more than anyone?Any of you?” Eren continued on, ignoring his friend. “Those who are not free. They’re just like livestock.”
“Eren!” you yelled, filled with a sudden rage. Rage fueled by grief.
This wasn’t the boy you’d grown up with. Fought beside. Come to love so deeply…
Eren snapped his gaze to you, his glare deepening. “Just seeing you has always pissed me off so much, Y/N. And now I finally understand why; I can’t stand the sight of a slave who obeys orders without question.”
His cold statement made you gasp and stumble back a step. Hurt flooded through you, but you fought off your tears for now.
“You don’t mean that…”
“Ever since we were little…I’ve hated you.”
Everything around you became white noise as you stared on in horrified silence, your mouth agape with all the words you wished to say. And yet nothing came of it.
Faintly you registered Armin leaping across the table towards Eren, fists raised and teeth clenched. Words were exchanged, but you heard none of them. Like Gabi, you remained frozen in your spot.
Mikasa lunged forward to stop Armin, only to freeze in fear as she recognized what Ered had said about the Ackermans might just be true. Armin was pinned to the table by Eren’s strong grip, shouting over his shoulder to the man above him.
The moment Eren threw Armin across the room, you finally snapped and regained your ability to speak.
“Eren!” you screamed.
Immediately Eren held still, his back to you but his head turned to silently acknowledge your voice.
“Stop this! What have you done?” You shouted. Your voice shook as well as your hands with every word you uttered, but you knew you had to keep going. Or else you’d never get another chance.
Deep down, you knew this is how it had to be.
“You belittle Mikasa…manhandle Armin…hate me…And for what? What is it you truly want from us?”
Eren turned to face you, his emotions hidden behind his cold facade. But he let you speak. Let you say the things you both knew, deep down, you had both longed to say for years.
“You can hate me all you want. You can hate all of us, all you want. But don’t you dare for a moment accuse us of anything but loyalty. We love you, Eren. I love you. You know that, I know you do!” You cried out in earnest, tears finally escaping your eyes no matter how hard you fought them.
“I’ve always loved you. I’ve tried, time and time again, to show you this. And for everything I’ve ever done…How could you?”
With that final whisper, you turned your back to him and crossed your arms around your sides. Looking for any form of comfort.
“Y/N…You know I-“ Eren started to speak, his tone much softer now. Though you couldn’t see it, he was fighting tears himself. But he refused to let anyone notice how he wiped them away.
“No. Just, fucking don’t.” You stated softly. “Figure out this mess with the war. Do what you must. But please…Please understand us…”
Just then, a couple MP’s burst through the door, demanding to know what the noise was about.
“I’m fine,” Eren reassured them, his voice hollow. “Go back to Floch. I’ll join up soon.”
Once they hesitantly left, you finally turned in your heel and gave Eren one last pleading look.
“Figure this out, Eren. Figure this out for us.”
With that you turned to leave the room. To leave your companions and to leave your love. But just before you twisted the door handle to rejoin Commander Hange and the others, you looked over your shoulder and made direct eye contact with Eren.
“And just know…Despite everything that happened in the past… Despite what happened here in this room…Just know I still love you. I’m scared that I always will.”
With that you left, not seeing the way Eren’s emotions finally pushed through his facade and showed on his face. The way he reached out his hand to stop you leaving, despite the physical distance between the two of you.
You never would know, just as he would never forget the way what was left of his heart shattered in his chest that day.

I’m Okay (Eddie Munson x Reader)
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Eddie Munson x Reader (She/Her)
Warnings: Swearing
Synopsis: The older kids get trapped in the upside down and are desperate to find a way back. Luckily Y/N and the kids can help. (This is basically just the last episode of S4 part one)
Y/N notes: shorter than Eddie
Wanna be on the Eddie Munson tag list? Look here!
Wanna request something? Look here!
Nancy, Robin and Eddie rushed downstairs, hearing Steve repeatedly call out for Dustin. They were confused to find Harrington frantically looking around the Wheeler’s empty dining room.
“Maybe he really does have rabies.” Robin mumbled to herself.
“Steve, what are you doing?” Nancy called out. He shon the torch in their faces, making them all squint.
“He’s here. Henderson. That little shit, he’s here. He’s like- He’s in the walls or something. Just listen.” The rest of the group fell silent. And soon enough they started hearing him too.
———————————————————————
“And that brings us to the question you first raised. How and why is there a gate at Lover’s Lake?” Dustin paced back and forth as he talked. The Sinclair siblings listened, sitting at the dining room table. “Let’s analyse. What do Eleven and Vecna have in common?”
Y/N leaned on the counter from the kitchen. Her leg bouncing up and down as her anxiety got worse and worse. She was only half listening to the younger kids, her mind too preoccupied worrying about Eddie and the others.
“I should’ve gone with them. I should’ve gone…” She repeated to herself again and again.
———————————————————————
“Dustin!” Nancy called out as the older kids looked around. Robin and Eddie joining in.
“Dustin!”
“Dustin!!” Steve sighed.
“Alright either this kid can’t hear us or he’s being a total douchebag.”
“Wait.” Robin said, holding a hand up. “There’s another voice.” The group fell silent once again.
“…did Steve have to go too?” The other voice said, a mix of worry and annoyance in their tone.
“It’s Y/N.” Eddie said, recognising her voice instantly. He began yelling again. “Y/N! Y/N it’s Eddie! Can you hear me?!”
“Can’t help but notice you got a lot louder Munson.” Robin teases. Eddie sighed.
“Yeah whatever she’s my oldest friend and I know for sure she wouldn’t be acting like a douche in this situation, unlike Dustin who I’m not too sure about.”
“You sure you two are just friends?” Nancy asked. The older kids had had their suspicions for the last couple days.
They didn’t even know Y/N knew Eddie until the incident with Chrissy. It made sense though, Y/N had already graduated and would have been in the same grade with him. It was still a shock at the amount of panic they found her in when they were rounding up the group.
Y/N was always standing the closest to Eddie. They’d constantly ask each other if they were okay. She’d hold on to his wrist in fear of losing him again. Eddie would stare at her a lot. When she was talking, walking, listening to others. No matter what, his eyes were on her.
“Yes Wheeler, we’re just friends.” He might have been telling the truth but the slight sadness in his voice made the group know he wished it was more.
“He’s the fuckin babysitter not me.” Y/N’s voice came back in, but she definitely couldn’t hear them. The group chuckled, hearing Y/N talk to herself. It was somewhat comforting to hear such mundane words in a situation this dire.
“Come on Y/N.” Eddie mumbled to himself. “You were always the smart one, get us outta here.”
“Will found a way.” The group turned to Nancy.
“What?” Steve questioned.
“Will. He found a way to speak to Joyce through the lights.” She headed to the nearest lamp and started flicking the switch. She quickly got frustrated. “It’s not working…” Steve shone his torch up at the ceiling.
“Guys?”
———————————————————————
Dustin continued to ramble as Lucas tried to take it all in. Erica had gotten bored and started looking around. She noticed the lights had started flickering.
“Are you even listening to me?” Dustin asked, sitting down in the empty chair. Erica kept her eyes on the light. “Y/N can you help me out here?” The older kid looked up at him, then at Erica.
“Yeah I’m listening.” Erica said “It’s just-“ She stood up and began walking closer. “You said you followed Vecna through lights, right?”
“Yeah, why?” Dustin questioned. Y/N’s eyes widened, understanding.
“Because I think he’s here.” The older girl immediately stood up and rushed over to the kids, standing in front of them.
“Okay I’m no Harrington but I’m sure as hell gonna do my best as the babysitter right now-“ Y/N stopped talking and looked closer at the flickering lights. She knew that pattern. Morse code.
“S…” Dustin whispered. “…O…S.
“Eddie.” Y/N said.
———————————————————————
The metal head closed his eyes and smiled. Appreciating the comfort in hearing Y/N say his name.
“How’d you know it’s Eddie specifically?” They heard Dustin question. There was a pause before Y/N answered.
“Because I taught him that.” The group looked to Eddie who was smiling like an idiot.
“I used to meet Y/N at her house at night and we’d hang out. We’d go watch a movie or buy snacks from the 24 hour convenience store. If she used her flashlight saying S.O.S, that meant she was grounded and I’d help her climb out her bedroom window instead.”
“And you’re not dating?” Steve questioned. He shot Nancy a side glance. This was starting to sound a lot like when they were together. Eddie sighed.
‘No guys. We are not dating.” He looked at all three of them. Robin folded her arms.
“But like… why not?” Eddie wandered around in a circle, swaying his arms as he talked.
“Because… I’m Eddie the freak and she’s Y/N the… she’s the best.” Eddie chuckled to himself, thinking about her. “She’s just the fuckin best a-and she can do a lot better than me.”
That’s when they understood.
“Dude don’t think like that.” Steve said. “I’ve only seen you guys together for like two days and I know for sure she likes you. Trust me. I know all the signs.”
“Yeah?” Eddie looked at him.
“Yeah dude. Just go for it.” Steve could see a little glimmer of hope in the metal head’s eye.
———————————————————————
Dustin and Y/N gave each other a look before turning to the Sinclair siblings.
“Hey uh, remember when I said they wouldn’t be stupid enough to go through Watergate?”
“Yeah?” Lucas said, dreading he already knew what Dustin was gonna say.
“I overestimated them.” The kids looked up at Y/N for help.
Oh fuck right I’m the adult in this situation. Shit I am not a good leader in instances like this. Okay keep calm. What would the others do? Nancy would think of a plan. Steve would put the safety of the kids first. Robin would make jokes to ease the tension. And Eddie… would probably be looking after me. Fuck I wish he was here right now.
She looked back up at the ceiling, eyebrows furrowed.
“Okay lights, lights… I’ve got a plan. Where’s Holly?”
———————————————————————
“That’s my girl.” Eddie smiled.
“I thought she wasn’t your girl?” Steve said, souring Eddie’s mood.
“Shut up it’s not like- like it’s.. it’s different cause-” Eddie continued to attempt to form a sentence as the other three smiled knowingly at him.
“Guys!” Y/N’s voice called out to them. “Go… Nancy’s room! We’ll…. there!” The message was hard to hear but they got the important parts.
“Okay let’s go.” Nancy stated. The four ran back upstairs, following the familiar voices and looking around for the orange glow.
Soon enough one appeared just above the bed. They knelt around it. Dustin could be heard partially from the other side.
“… seeing this?” Nancy moved her hand around and it glowed brighter. That was a good sign “Okay we’re gonna unplug it stand by! … okay try now!” Nancy tried again, hearing excitement from the other side. “Okay that worked!!”
The group all cheered, knowing that they were one step closer to getting out. Nancy began to write.
Stuck.
“… can’t get out through Watergate?” Dustin replied.
“What the hell’s watergate?” Steve questioned. Robin figured it out.
“Cause it’s in water and it’s a gate.” The group nodded.
“That’s cute.” Eddie commented.
Guarded.
“Okay uh Watergate’s guarded. We think we have a theory that could help with that!” The group nodded.
“Genius child.” Robin said under her breath.
“We think Watergate isn’t the only gate! That there’s a gate at every murder site.” Nancy frowned.
“Does anybody understand what he’s talking about?” She asked. The group shook their heads. Nancy sent them a question mark. Dustin yelled something back.
“Jesus Christ this kid’s gotta get his ego in check.” Steve sighed. Eddie leaned forward.
“It’s his tone, right?”
“I know.” Suddenly Y/N’s voice came back in.
“…tin give them a break. They’re stuck in the fuckin… down right now. You gotta watch that tone sometimes…” Eddie chuckled at Y/N’s words. The others looked at each other again knowingly.
“So… so how far is your trailer?” Nancy asked Eddie, making a plan in her head.
“Seven miles.”
“Uh Nancy?” Robin piped up. “I know your house is here like weirdly, creepily frozen in time and shit, but haven’t you always had bikes?” Nancy’s eyes widened as she wrote again.
———————————————————————
“Trailer.” Lucas read. Y/N stood up.
“They got it. Let’s get Max and go.” The kids got up and ran downstairs. “We’ll meet you guys there!” Y/N yelled before following them.
The group managed to escape the Wheeler house and make it to Eddie’s trailer. Dustin pulled on the front door.
“Shit! It’s locked.” He looked at the others hoping they would have a suggestion. He noticed Y/N kicking rocks over further away. “Uh Y/N???” She flipped another one over with her foot and smiled.
“Bingo.” She picked up a key off the ground and headed to the boy.
“Oh and how many people know about that?” Dustin questioned, a cheesy grin on his face.
“Just me.” Y/N replied so matter of factly as she unlocked the door. The group followed her in to find a gate on the ceiling. “Well Dustin you were right.”
Y/N headed straight for a room at the back of the trailer and came out with a broom. “Okay everyone stand back.” The kids did what they were told, Dustin with a smile on his face.
“You seem to know this place pretty well Y/N. Come here often?”
“Dustin I swear to God I’ll throw you through this stupid gate if you don’t shut up.” She’d let all the comments from the last couple of days pass but now was not the time. Y/N poked the broom through the gate, making a hole. “Please be there. Please please please.” She said quietly to herself.
She threw the broom down and looked straight up. The kids walked over to join her. No one was on the other side. “Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Come on guys come on.”
“Y/N?” A familiar voice called out from the other side.
“E-Eddie?” The metal head emerged, the rest of the group with him. Y/N slapped a hand to her chest and breathed the biggest sigh of relief .
“Oh thank God.” She ran a hand through her hair as Dustin gigged and waved at them. It was trippy to see both groups on either side looking up. “Okay okay great now we just gotta get them on this side.”
“We can make a rope.” Dustin said.
“Great. There’s some bedsheets in Eddie’s room.” Y/N said as she headed over, the kids following her. “We can tie them together. Oh and we can use his mattress as a landing pad.”
“You seem to know a lot about Eddie’s room.” Dustin commented. “Specifically his bed.”
“Not in the mood Henderson.” Y/N snapped back as she helped Lucas pull the mattress up. They placed it below the gate and Dustin grabbed the rope they made.
“Not quite sure how these physics are gonna work but uh… here goes nothing.” Dustin threw one end into the gate. “There we go. And if my theory is correct…”
Dustin let go of the rope and it hung from both sides. The groups stood there amazed. “Alright pull on it! See if it holds!” They watched Robin yank the rope and it stayed in place. Success.
“This is the craziest shit I’ve ever seen in my life.” Erica said. “And I’ve seen some crazy shit.”
“Okay okay everyone off the mattress! Robin’s coming through.” Y/N said, pushing the kids back softly. They watched Robin climb the rope and then begin to fall down.
“Oh my God!’ She hit the landing pad and sat up. “Oh thank God. That was fun.” She said with a smile as Y/N gave her a hand up. The kids continued to watch the rope as Y/N pulled Robin to the side.
“You okay?? What happened to you guys?” Y/N asked, checking Robin over for any injuries.
“Yeah yeah I’m fine. Steve might need some medical help though.”
“Yeah I saw he was bandaged up. I think there’s a first aid kit in the-“ Before Y/N could say anything else, Eddie fell through and landed safely.
“That. Was fun. Shit.”
“Eddie…” Y/N said in an almost whisper. She walked over to him as he got up.
“Y/N! There’s my little Velma Dinkey. You and the mystery gang really solved this one.” She didn’t speak. She just wrapped her arms around him, just needing to feel him. To know that he was really back there with her. “W-Woah okay, miss me much?”
“I was really fucking scared dude.” Y/N managed to say, her words muffled in Eddie’s shirt. He could tell she was on the cusp of crying from the wobble in her voice.
“Hey hey Y/N, it’s okay I’m fine! We’re fine! We’re all fine.” Eddie reassured, putting both his hands on her shoulders and pushing her a little away, wanting to see her face. A single tear falling from one eye.
God she’s pretty. Was Steve really right? I mean she’s a lot more worried than I thought she was gonna be.
He looked up at Robin behind her. Her eyes widen and she nodded at him. “Uh hey let’s get some stuff for Steve. It’s in my room.” Eddie held on to Y/N’s hand as he led her.
He closed the door behind the pair and started looking through drawers. Y/N sat on his bed and wiped the tears away from her face. She took a deep breath in then out to compose herself.
“Fuck. S-So what exactly happened? Why did you guys go through the gate?” Y/N asked.
“Steve dove into Lover’s Lake to take a closer look and something grabbed him and pulled him in.” Eddie explained as he continued to look around. “We- well those two ladies followed him and I didn’t want to be left alone so I went too.”
“And what happened to Steve?” Eddie spun around to look at her.
“These crazy little bat creatures started attacking him. Like eating his sides.” He described it, deeply disturbed. Y/N stood up and walked over to him.
“And it was just Steve who got bit? Right?” Eddie smiled at her obvious concern for him.
“Yeah it was just Steve. I’m fine. The ladies are fine.” He saw her sigh of relief. “You did amazing on this side.”
“That’s what you think. I was stressed outta my mind! I’m never the adult in a situation like this! I always look to other people. I was so fucking scared you guys were gonna die and it was gonna be on me.”
“Well we’re back now right? So you did it.”
“I had to think about what you guys would do if you were here with me.” Eddie chuckled.
“I probably would’ve just ran. Because apparently that’s what I do now.” He looked down at the ground and fiddled with the rings on his finger.
“But you wouldn’t have.” He looked back up at her. “Not if I was there. You would’ve stuck with me.”
“Nah I would’ve ran and taken you with me.” He joked. Y/N laughed and shook her head.
“And I would’ve said no so you would be stuck with me and the rest of the group.” She replied. Eddie smiled and wrapped his arms around her, still looking down at her face.
“Well you got me there.” Y/N moved one hand to rest on the side of Eddie’s face.
“I’m really glad you’re okay.” Eddie gulped. The space between their faces was getting smaller and smaller.
“I’m glad you’re okay too.” He mumbled before closing the gap. He pulled her in closer as Y/N’s free hand moved to the other side of his face. Her hands traveled up the back of his neck and into his messy hair. Feeling themselves smiling against each other, only pulling away to breathe.
“I can’t believe it took us a near death experience to finally get to this point.” Y/N commented. Eddie chuckled, resting his head in the crook of her neck, playing small kisses all around. Y/N placed a hand on his chin to guide his lips back onto hers.
“Yo guys did you find the OH MY GOD-“ Dustin opened the door and immediately regretted it. He ran back into the living room screaming. “OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD-“
“DUSTIN I TOLD YOU TO KNOCK-“
“I THOUGHT YOU WERE JOKING!!”

It had been weeks since your group took in the people from Woodbury. Things were improving every single day after that. The prison expanded its resources, and everyone chipped in. The courtyard had a dining room awning, and flowers and herbs grew. The front meadow held pigs, horses, and crops. A water pump brought water into the prison daily, and with gas coming in from runs, the generators were running from time to time. Hunting parties brought in a circulation of food to feed everyone. While there wasn’t plenty, there was enough.
Newcomers seemed to come in steadily, and a council was formed. You were offered a seat, and while you wanted to decline it, Michonne and Carol talked you into it. They believed you got a voice after all the help you did. And you were family.
Summer was in full bloom. It was nearly a hundred degrees out daily, and even though you hated the heat, you couldn’t find reasons to hate anything. Not with how happy things have been, not with how happy you’ve been.
In the time you’ve been here, you and Michonne have grown exceptionally close. The two of you joined the group around the same time and went through many of the same motions. But she wasn’t the person you were closest to.
“Hey, you comin’ or what?” Daryl yelled over at you.
Your hair was still damp from the shower you had earlier today, and it dripped down on your gray t-shirt. The shower was probably not the best idea since you started sweating when you stepped out into the Georgia heat.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” You waved him off, walking up to Carol. She handed you a bag full of the needed supplies, and you thanked her before walking over to Carl, sitting at the table. You finally found Tora there, and she meowed when you rubbed behind her ears. “I should’ve known you would’ve stolen her right from me. Little traitor.” You said, lightly flicking the rim of Carl’s hat.
“It’s not my fault she likes me so much,” Carl laughed, feeding her some meat.
You hummed and leaned down, kissing Tora on her head. “You just watch her while I’m gone.” But you didn’t need to worry about that, as Tora took a very quick liking to the boy and bounced back and forth between you and him. He knew all her whistles and commands, and you knew Carl always closely watched the giant cat. Especially since she was so popular with the children.
“Come on, I don’ got all day,” Darl yelled again.
You rolled your eyes as you finally approached him, adjusting the strap on your bag. “Take a chill pill, Daryl. The sun’s only been up twenty minutes. You have all day with me. You don’t gotta rush me outta here,” You replied.
He scuffed, and you laughed at his reaction as you walked over to your jeep. “Come on, we don’t wanna be late,” You said.
***
It was a bit cooler once you and Daryl got to your usual hunting grounds. The trees provided ample shading, but the breeze was still warm, and it was still early. You were a good few miles away from the prison, where the walkers were more spread out and the noise level was quieter. Still, you’d taken out quite a number of them.
Despite the heat, the ground was still a bit damp from the rain last night, and your jeans soaked through as you knelt on the ground, checking the snare traps. It took you and Daryl about twenty minutes to go through the cycle, and you successfully caught three rabbits, four squirrels, and a groundhog. You reset the snares and would come back tomorrow.
You heard a whistle and turned back to Daryl, who pointed toward the ground. Your eyes narrowed, and you walked over, trying to see what it was. “Walker?” You asked.
“Nah, person,” He said.
“How do you know?” You asked.
“You see here,” He pointed, “The footprints are in a line. Ain’ zig zaggin’ all ‘ver the place.” He knelt down and moved some of the leaves away from the trail. “How many?”
You knelt down beside him and looked, taking a few more seconds than he did to come up with an answer. “Just one. Only one set of boot marks.” Daryl nodded in confirmation, and you smiled at him before standing up. “Soon, I’ll be an expert tracker like you,” You said.
“You only been doin’ it a couple weeks, give it a few more years,”
You laughed and swung your bag around, grabbing your canteen of water and taking a sip. “It’s hot out here today,” You said and handed him the water. After he took a sip you put it away. “I bet it’s the end of July,”
“Maybe,” He muttered, looking at another pair of tracks on the ground, “Come ‘ere, check ‘em out,”
You walked over and looked, not recognizing what they were. “Some type of bird?”
“I think wild turkeys, trail goes this way. Look kinda fresh too,”
“Maybe we should follow them if we can catch some and bring them back, that’s fresh eggs during their breeding season, and we can raise a number of them in the meadow or something,” You said, “Maybe depending on how many we find we can kill a couple. Have Thanksgiving in July,” You laughed.
Daryl shook his head and turned, but you caught him smiling before he did.
***
An hour later, you and Daryl were still tracking the turkey tracks when you came across a lake, It was small but crystal clear, and there were plenty of animal tracks around the muddy bank. It was getting warmer, and you’d thrown your hair up in a ponytail.
The trees were forty feet back and the meadow gave a really nice viewpoint of the area around you. You weren’t exactly sure of where you were, other than north of the prison. You didn’t need to say anything to Daryl, you both knew that this was a good place to take a breather and have your breakfast.
“You wanna know what I miss more than anything?” You asked, biting into a well-expired granola bar. You didn’t need to wait for him to answer. “Chocolate chip pancakes. Or waffles. I loved breakfast food. Lots of syrup and butter. So much better than this shit,” You said.
“I liked the grits we found,” He said.
You groaned, “Ugh, I hate that crap. I hate the texture.”
“It’s filling, though,” He countered.
You shrugged your shoulders and leaned back in the grass. The sun was heavy on you, and a part of you wanted to take a swim through the lake. It’d been so long since you’d been swimming. But you only had another hour or so before heading back. The council decided smaller hunting parties wouldn’t go out for long hours at a time. It was too risky after a couple of newbies never came back.
The little break you and Daryl took was enough to make you curl up and go to sleep. Just like everyone else, your sleeping schedule wasn’t what it should be. Days were long, even though life was easier.
“We should get goin’ in a minute,” Daryl said but went against his words and laid back a few feet away from you.
You sighed but didn’t say anything. It was peaceful out here, despite the danger around every tree. Still, it reminded you of when it was just you and Tora. When your days were spent wandering the forest for food and scaling trees to avoid passing walkers. As much as you like your new life with your family and the prison, sometimes you miss the simplicity of when it was just you.
The sky was mostly clear, with only a few white puffy clouds on the canvas. You laughed as one passed and pointed up at it, “That one looks like a bear,”
“Which one?”
You moved a couple inches closer to him and pointed, trying to angle your finger right. “There,”
“Pft, no it ain’,”
You rolled your eyes and sat up. That was when you saw a few wild turkeys by the other side of the lake. “Daryl, the turkeys,”
He sat up immediately and grabbed his crossbow. “Only four, not enough to bring back.”
Your eyes narrowed briefly, “No babies, I wonder what happened to them.” You said. Neither of you needed to say what happened to them. You both knew.
The two of you grabbed your gear and started toward the other side of the lake. Your stomach grumbled at the sight of them, and you felt terrible, but not bad enough. You grabbed Daryl's arm when you got as close as you could to them. “Let me try?”
“Again?”
“Yes, yes, come on. We can’t shoot them, and I need the practice if I’m going to get good at the bow and arrow we found,” You said.
He sighed loudly and handed you the crossbow. You handed him your gun and adjusted the bow in your hand. He’d only let you try a couple of times, and you never could get used to the weight of it. But that bow and arrow was just sitting in your cell at the prison, and you did want to learn it.
“Gotta take the bow out more,” Daryl said to you, “We can do some target practice. Glenn been teachin’ some of the others to shoot. Maybe we’ll go with ‘em?”
You nodded and lifted the bow, repeating the instructions in your head on how to use it. You set your finger on the trigger and waited for a few heartbeats before aiming, then waited again and then fired. The arrow pierced the leg of the animal, and you cringed when you heard its painful clucks. This was the part you hated most about hunting.
“Dammit,” You muttered.
Daryl looked at you, “You’re leanin’, can’ kill it with just a shot yet, it’s okay,”
You sighed and lowered the crossbow while Daryl went to kill the injured bird. The other three scattered off but didn’t go too far. You were entirely disappointed in yourself, and the sound of the turkey in distress only made it worse.
You were just around to tell Daryl he could get the rest when an arm around your throat pulled you backward, and you felt the sharp tip of a knife touch the base of your throat.
“Don’t move,” A deep voice said in your ear.
Daryl turned around with the gun raised at the sound of a new voice. “Let ‘er go,” He said.
A different man came into view with a gun too, and you closed your eyes for a second. You were fucked.
“Nobody’s gotta get hurt,” The man said, “We’re just gonna take your shit, and we’ll be on our way,” The man holding you hostage said. “Drop your weapon, and I won’t slit her throat,”
Your eyes met Daryl’s, and you could see the anger and worry on his face. He was breathing heavily. Slowly he put the gun on the ground.
“Adam, get the bags and the bird,” The man said.
Adam moved to grab the bags, and you quickly pulled his arm away from your throat in the opportunity of your attacker's lack of attention. That quick second of reaction gave you enough time to duck under the arm, pull out your own knife, and slam it into the side of his body. He screamed in pain, and you pulled it out, dropping to the ground to swing your legs. His head hit the ground at the same time as you heard a gunshot, but you didn’t stop.
You drove the knife down into your attacker's arm, and he screamed again, dropping the knife he did have. With his weapon removed, you turned back, ready to throw a knife at Adam, but he was already on the ground.
You barely had time to react before Daryl was on the man, and you grimaced when you heard the sickening crunch of bone as Daryl assaulted the man.
“Daryl!” You yelled, grabbing his arm mid-punch and using all your strength to keep him from beating the man to death.
“He woulda killed ya!” Daryl yelled, pulling his arm free.
“Doesn’t mean we gotta kill him!” You yelled.
“Nah, this asshole is dead,”
“No!” You yelled, trying to shove Daryl off of the unconscious man. “He’s as good as dead as it is. We don’t know if it was just the two of them. We need to go, Daryl, now. Please.” You stressed. You weren’t sure what exactly caused Daryl to stop, but thankfully he did, and he cursed loudly as he stood up.
When he looked at you, his eyes dropped to your arm. “You’re bleedin’,”
You looked down and saw a two-inch gash on your bicep. You hadn’t even felt it. “Crap,” You muttered, immediately putting pressure on the wound. You hadn’t noticed the blood dripping down your arm either.
“We got stuff in the bag,” Daryl grunted and went to get the supplies.
You followed him and watched silently as he quickly cleaned up the cut and put a gauze pad over it. It would have to do until you got home.
“Let’s get out of ‘ere, don’ wanna be ‘ere when he wakes up. I’ll fuckin’ kill ‘em,” Daryl cursed.
