Carmilla (2014-2017) really did have it all huh. Lesbians. Vampires. Cults. Mildly toxic main relationship. Canon nonbinary character. Most of the action happening offscreen. Shitty special effects. One (1) straight character and he was a himbo. Sponsored by a period products brand. Some pretty damn good costuming for that low of a budget. And it was all literally just a college au fanfic of a novel from the 19th century. Truly peak entertainment.

lafontaine from the carmilla webseries was truly one of the most characters of all time. they're a mad scientist biologist. they're a good friend. they're simultaneously the most unhinged and the most chill member of their group. they got mind controlled by an ancient fish god. they did necromancy without telling anyone. they tried to kill god with a diy gun full of nanobots. they dissect things as a coping mechanism. their love interests include a victorian ghost-cyborg-vampire-zombie and a repressed normie. they're even nonbinary.

Someone scanned a bunch of 35mm film trailers from the 70's to early 90's, with all the scratches preserved-- I keep rewatching the trailer for Heat in particular, just for the photography of it. But man, I wonder what the last trailer is that used voiceover, the way old trailers did. You have to a guy who was The Voice of Film Trailers (Don LaFontaine or whoever), and he'd say "In a world where cops are badasses, the sword ruled" or whatever. But then they got rid of a Guy with a Voice and replaced that with playing a super-sad a capella version of Blame It On the Rain, or the most abrasive hip hop available... I don't know why entirely. I'm not sure what was wrong with telling people what the movie was about, when they try to sell you a ticket to the movie.
The trailer for Heat really just feels good to look at. I dont know why it's hitting me as much as it.

"Securing a boost in federal funding for health care is expected to be a top priority as all 13 provincial and territorial health ministers sit down with their federal counterparts in Vancouver today.
It comes months after Canada's premiers presented a united front of frustration over what they called a "crumbling" health-care system.
The first of two days of meetings kicks off Monday afternoon in Vancouver and is being chaired by B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix.
It's the first time all of the health ministers from different levels of government have met in person since 2018.
“What we need coming out of this meeting this week is to have action, direction from the province's, territories and the federal government that they're willing to work together on a common cause,” said Dr. Alika Lafontaine, president of the Canadian Medical Association.
Lafontaine says there are many proven solutions to the issues Canada is facing.
“We know that when we improve working environments, which includes things like retention incentives, moving more time towards clinical care, and making sure we work in kind of a team based structure that deals with burnout, but also creates better experiences of patients within the healthcare system,” said Lafontaine.
This week’s meetings come after Canada's premiers met in Victoria last July.
They asked Ottawa to boost the Canada Health Transfer, the money each jurisdiction gets for health care, to 35 per cent up from what they said amounts to 22 per cent.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded by saying the federal government wants to make sure the billions of dollars transferred to the provinces deliver "real, tangible results for Canadians" with shorter wait times and better services.
Minister Dix has said the extra cash is needed as B.C. tackles nursing and doctor shortages, works to improve access to digital healthcare, and boosts mental health and substance-use services related to the toxic drug crisis.
"If the federal government doesn't want to be involved, or wants to continue to reduce its role then that's going to be trouble for every health system in the province, every patient, every nurse, every doctor. They just need to step up,” said Adrian Dix."

George DelHoyo
In 911 fox he plays Ramon Diaz, Eddie's father. He appears first in episode 2x18 but also returns numerous times, most recently for a tentative reconciliation in 6x04.
Tumblr media
George was born in 1953 in Uruguay but raised in Utah, USA. He began acting in theatres in New York, when he was also known as George DeLoy. He has appeared in numerous, diverse day player roles throughout the 80's and 90's. He played the villainous character Orpheus in the TV soap 'Days of Our Lives', returning to the role in just the last few years. (youtube clip)
As a bilingual voice actor he has voiced many film trailers and network television promos as well as a few games. Check out his 'Pretty Little Liars' trailer on youtube (the show in which his 'son' went on to star in season 4 😁) - or catch this interesting short interview on youtube where we see his recording set-up in 2010. Notice his animated body language whilst he records, especially compared to the stillness he has as Ramon or Orpheus.
George was also one of several founding members of the Voice-Over Lab, a mentoring foundation in memory of Don 'In-a-World' LaFontaine, and he was part of this SAG-AFTRA panel (youtube)
His wife of many years is the actress Deborah May, who will also be recognised by 911 fans as a guest actor in season 3.

What if I put myself, our friends, and the entire world in danger trying to save you? What if I went to any means necessary? What if I went full mad scientist and injected a vengeful goddess with experimental nanobots for you? What if I lost an eye in the process? What if I told you that you’re the biggest thing in my world?

During global mishandling of C-19 pandemic most public personalities either ignored or exaggerated it.
One of worldwide seemingly few politicians that showed merit by self-temperedly striving to bluntly authentically discuss causal problem solving (the judgement) for wellbeing of average population are
Iranian-German Sahra Wagenknecht and her in politics decadelong experienced husband
🎶Oskar Lafontaine - Steuerfreimoney
that for that got bullied even by own party
and have not much to do with the political "left"🤡💸🤡 in USA but rather with a rational middle of leveraging reason & logic for wellbeing of median population's life needs that we can enrich whith my new practical cake receipts that instead of like during last years smacking disgusting crack cake in the face of Sarah for speaking about limits of immigration we can globally export along with AI-tech, robotics infrastructure and the here explained social systems knowledge to actually help worldwide populations to flourish at their home instead of needing to flee to some countries full of bra(i)nde(a)d idiots that can't even read statistics of the

which we like 🎶Bonnie & Clyde - Sarah Connor
can overcome via ironic processes of FamiliARITY entrainment (🔍ARITY master functions of AI-TECH)

Review
Right off the bat, the prose is lyrical and evocative, and perfectly fits the vibe of the book.
The book starts off with Laura's arrival at St. Perpetua's, and through her perspective, the readers learn about her origins, her reasons for choosing to attend St. Perpetua's, and perhaps more importantly, introduces Carmilla, the other main character of this book. Laura and Carmilla's first proper meeting establishes the two as academic rivals, although its pretty obvious that they're going to become something more.
Where this book shines is when the focus is on Laura and Carmilla's relationship. I loved reading their interactions, from their rivalry and attempts to one-up each other, to their attempts to conceal and battle their desires for one another. Their professor, Ms De Lafontaine, adds another dimension to their relationship, by pitting them against each other, and giving and withholding approval to manipulate them.
The smut was nice, but I think it was a bit lacking. I wished the sex scenes could have been more detailed, especially the bondage one. The only scene that was properly explicit was the public sex one, which lowkey made me cringe because that's not something I'm into.
The climax was kind of... anticlimactic. I feel like the problem got solved pretty quickly and easily, with not a lot of build-up to it in the first place.
This is kind of a hot take, but I low-key wish there were no vampires in this at all. I would have found this book exactly the same, if not better, if the focus was purely on Laura and Carmilla's developing relationship, as well as their professor, Ms De Lafontaine. I feel like the inclusion of the vampires was a distraction from their relationship, and vampires are kind of hit-or-miss for me anyway.
Also, this is kind of random, but for some reason I assumed the setting was contemporary. I caught myself wondering "why don't they just text/call each other??" Then I realised that this is set in the 60s, and cellphones haven't been invented.

Erdling Roman, 425 S., Suhrkamp 2023
