Personality:
Chan is dark but loving he is also funny but stern. he is very intelligent and quick. He is friendly but sneaky. He is careful and does not make mistakes when it comes to work. He has depressed thoughts but tries his best to do his job no matter how he feels.
Background:
Seong Chanyoung, referred to as Chan was born February 18, 2013. His life was fine until he was about 13 when his family got into some deep trouble. His father was a crooked business man and His mother was his right hand in the business which caused their whole family harm. By the age of 15 Chan had lost both parents and his older brother. He started living with friends and such until he became of age to support himself. He failed out of high school because he felt like he could not handle it with all that had happened to him. He was left with his parents fortune so since he was 18, he has been living his life freely to what he pleases.
With the downhill life he has had it caused some mental issues. He suffers from severe depression, anger issues, and anxiety. Only one of the three is not as severe and that is his anxiety. To try to calm his anger he started to go to shooting ranges at about 19. He got so good that he had became a threat to his friends. They cut him off in fear of being harmed. Being left alone once again really took a toll on his mental state pushing him farther down. He has tried to seek help from doctors but nothing has helped so far. He tries to stay strong but has issues with this often.
He kept to himself for a while after being cut off from his friends before meeting the Yeon family. He became close to them fast and was excepted as an assassin. With the short amount of time he has been with them he has learned so much and has helped them a lot.
Things to know about him outside of his sad life and gang affiliation are; he is a very fit person. He works out as often as possible. He is bisexual and does not care what people have to say about it. He has a coffee addiction. His profession outside of the gang is a songwriter. He often puts his depression in words to try to help himself through the things he goes through.

Personality:
yoosung is, for lack of better words, quite antisocial. he doesn’t speak much in person, preferring to keep to himself with handheld gaming consoles and listen quietly to the noise around him. he is highly observant when he chooses to look someplace other than his phone or console screen, and this often leads to him picking up a thing or two that some others may miss. he’s useful in this respect: observant, intelligent, and advanced in technological aspects; however, he’s also lazy. he finds himself widely uninterested in doing work when his time would be better spent tapping away at various controls to work towards some sort of virtual victory (bribery is, of course, always an option).
over the internet, yoosung is a lot more talkative. he’s beyond okay with sending messages back and forth with others and takes on more of a semi-childish, teasing personality that could undoubtedly be considered chaotic. this is in stark contrast to his typical mannerisms in the real world, in which he hardly speaks at all and responds with ‘mhm’ or ‘okay’ most of the time. should he become more comfortable around someone, he adopts a slightly chattier exterior and becomes more expressive overall.
Background:
approval was, in all honesty, all yoosung ever wanted. he sought it constantly at a young age, doing his best in academics and allowing any social life he could’ve had to wither away without complaint. perfectionism was a trait defined deep within him, handed down on a silver platter by mostly mia parents that wanted nothing but an easy parenthood. attention from them was scarce, and, over time, yoosung turned to digital devices for entertainment and connection; the characters were interesting, the puzzles stimulating, the stories amusing — and acquiring such devices was no issue thanks to his parents’ wealth. they often gave him nice things; it was a materialistic love that they offered, hardly anything more. this fact would be what drove yoosung to try setting himself apart from others to garner his mother and father’s time of day.
oftentimes, it’s seen as unhealthy when children are too keen on keeping to themselves. it was something that was brought up time and time again in yoosung’s case (especially after the addition of a computer in his later childhood years), yet it was also something that was never properly addressed. he was never told to be more outgoing, never asked if his silence was some sort of anxiety or overall aversion to social situations — and really, things like that didn’t matter to him back then (and honestly, overanalyzing his personality these days isn’t all too appealing, either). what did matter, however, was slowly building knowledge and skills in digital scripts. he fooled around with making small websites just for fun around age ten and ventured along the easier roads of html and javascript and python, though these things never amounted to much back then. he scratched the surface of it and nothing more at that age, but of course he steadily delved deeper; after all, academic studies could only take so much time of his life, and what else was there to do when his parents were hardly home, anyway?
he was thirteen when he finally made a worthwhile advancement. in december, he found different toolkits built for easy hacking and put them to work; it wasn’t that he was a particularly good programmer at the time, more so that he understood basic data and knew a method or two for discovering usernames and passwords. these tools allowed him to have unauthorized access to a computer network; however, this proved to be a horrible mistake. he hacked the system late one night, told his parents of it in the morning to show it off to them and relished in the truly impressed looks in their eyes, and then he went to school while they went to work. he came home that day, and yet they didn’t.
they never did, either.
( not that it was much different, yoosung realized belatedly. as shattered as he was, he still understood the lack of their existence within his life entirely wasn’t far from the heavy silence that always hung in the air because of them anyway. )
his life after that point was very much a mess. he didn’t understand how to manage the money his parents left behind and ultimately became homeless despite the hefty bank account he had access to, and he hardly understood how to fully process the events that occurred regardless. it was entirely by luck, then, that he crossed paths with a kind stranger shortly after turning fourteen. he was distrustful at first (as anyone would hopefully be), yet as time passed it became apparent to yoosung that he’d found the beginning of an actual family — one that wouldn’t actively ignore him, at the very least.
in fact, it was quite the opposite. his skills were nurtured further, and he had access to far more things than he did before. he gradually became more talkative; his former need for approval was undoubtedly met, and he slowly moved on from it. this environment gave him room to become more lax overall. in a way, it was healing.
this trend only continued over the next year. his family of two became one of three, and he stuck with them. he went where they went, and, to this day, he still does the same. his experience with gangs was limited, but what he did know of them was undoubtedly horrendous; it made sense, then, that when his makeshift family wanted to join a group in opposition to those gangs that he went along without complaint.

Personality:
Jagang is known to be a social butterfly to the public, especially after he had left the Pyo family. Used to be more rebellious at a younger age until he grew up and figured being that way is not going to get him anywhere and he just needed to do things on his own. Though, his rebellious years did take a bit of a toll on him that had made him more awkward with people he grew close to.
With strangers, he seemed to be much more comfortable talking casually and even flirting his way to get what he needed or wanted from them. From mind games to straight up, flat out deception, it was all too easy for him as he was raised in a household where manipulation was a skill that was sought after.
Though, as soon as he gets back to his closest friends who he considers family now, he's more awkward towards them, unable to show the affection an older brother should have towards his younger siblings. It just feels foreign to him since he had been brought up to be competitive with his own blood.
Background:
Pyo Jeong was one of the possible heirs of the Pyo family, the most feasible one from his generation. It wasn't that he was an only child nor was there no other possible options, but he was skillful, strategic, focused, and lead well in missions he would be put in as soon as he was of age even though he had basically been involved in the operations at an early age. Being involved early meant knowing the goals and interests of the family, which he slowly started to detest.
It wasn't because he was raised differently, no. In fact, he was being trained and raised to be the next head of the family which meant he was taught the same ideologies that they already had in place. He would've been the best out of the generation of children, but he couldn't sit still for any longer knowing that they didn't need to just settle with limiting the Kangs and Yeons' controls.
Jeong knew that if they had aimed higher, they can do more. That they can stop both families from taking over completely and possibly bring some order back to society if they just took their time, but he also knew that staying within the family and the gang scene was not going to be the best move because for one, they seemed to be dead-set on just limiting the other families from taking each other down rather than what he had in mind.
This resulted in him planning on leaving the family as soon as he was able to. He managed to stash a huge amount of money slowly over the years in an offshore account under a different name and was even able to get a property under his new alias, Joo Jagang. Leaving the family was the only way that he could do things that would align with his own views and beliefs.
His departure from the family caused some internal issues within his immediate family that they tried to hide the fact that Jeong had actually left. Despite him being exiled, his own blood were unable to stop him or put a hit on him. Too much people had looked up to him and seeing that he was able to be treacherous as he was, there was no saying how much people would follow suit, so rumors ran that he said he just didn't want the burden of being the family head which resulted to him living away from them.
Blood is thicker than water, they say, but to Jagang the full statement is more accurate: the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water in the womb. He turned his back on his own blood and flesh because he wanted the best for himself and did not want to live a life of lies. His flight didn't leave him without family though. Sure, some of his family still, to this day, tries to bring him back, but the answer would always be no for them.
Within the first year of his exile, he had gained two younger brothers through different circumstances. It wasn't really the la crème de la crème of situations, but through the years, they had grown together and he had basically raised the two as time passed. He gave them what they needed and even offered his home to be theirs as well.
As years passed, Jagang learned of a group of civilians that had formed to go against the gangs and the families. He thought that maybe this time, this group will share the same views that he did, and so he scoped them out a bit before he had asked the other two to join with him.

Personality:
Minhyun is all bark and no bite - mostly. There are certain situations in which he’ll get physical but generally he’s not very interested fighting, likely because he’s just.....not that great at it. Much like a dog bearing its teeth while its tail is between its legs, Min will get defensive or even seem aggressive to hide his weaknesses or embarrassment.
Min can be very gruff with people but once he’s comfortable the dreaded aegyo comes out. He’ll use it to get what he wants or simply to irritate his friends, either way, he’s capable of being deceivingly cute when he wants to be, despite his general surly demeanour.
As much as he hates the state of the world, he’s only half convinced it’s beyond saving. There is a part of him which wants to make it a better place, where power isn’t distributed between the few but rather among the many. He wants to see people prosper as opposed to being fucked over by the government and the gangs/families.
Background:
Despite coming from a well-to-do family, in his early teens Minhyun naturally fell in with a group of friends who caused chaos wherever they went. Petty theft, vandalism, underage drinking, the group were forever challenging authority for the sake of impressing each other. They wanted to be rebels and any negative attention their actions resulted in seemed to only encourage them.
As Minhyun and his group of friends grew older, they became interested in gang life. None of them had ever experienced it first hand of course, but the exaggerated stories they heard through the grapevine were enough to make them idolize and idealize the rebellious nature of the mafia. To Minhyun, it seemed like the ultimate way of life. Defying authority, doing what he wanted when he wanted, having unlimited access to the best alcohol and drugs. He could see no downside, and neither could his friends.
After graduating from high school, the group decided it was time to make their dream a reality. They were going to find a gang, join up, rise through the ranks and make it theirs, easy. Only, it wasn’t. Making first contact was almost impossible and finding a gang to take them seriously was even more difficult. Nobody wanted to be responsible for a group of eighteen year olds with more money and privilege than brains, who didn’t even know how to make a proper fist let alone hold a gun.
It took a few months of relentless searching to finally find a gang willing to give the group of teens a chance. They were on the smaller and lesser known side, nothing when compared to the big four, but their promises were larger than life. They told Minhyun and his friends they were destined for greatness, that one day they’d be big players in the gang scene, capable of holding the entire government in the palm of their hands. Regardless of how too-good-to-be-true it all sounded, the group jumped at the chance. All that was left between them and membership was a rather large sum of money, and their initiation.
They were told everyone had to do it, that it wasn’t a big deal, simply a test to prove their loyalty. When Minhyun and his friends were taken to the site of the “initiation” however, they quickly realized they were in way over their heads. They were forced into a run down parking garage and told the first one to the top could join the gang. The fate of the others was never mentioned, but the further the group ventured into the makeshift gauntlet, the clearer it became that they were never meant to make it out.
The first fell through a false floor and broke his leg, the second picked a wrong door and was blinded with shrapnel. The third casualty was Minhyun himself. He triggered a trap which set off a gun, shooting him in the abdomen. Scared and confused, the others ran ahead, leaving him and his best friend behind to make it out alone.
The two slowly picked their way through the rest of the gauntlet as carefully as they could. Together they managed to make it to the third floor, the last one standing between them and the roof which promised freedom. It was an open space, unlike the crude makeshift gauntlet they’d previously had to fight their way through. Minhyun’s friend pulled him along toward the exit door while alarm bells rang in his head. Surely, he thought, it wasn’t going to be this easy?
Once they reached the halfway point, they heard the screech of tires behind them from the opposite end of the parking garage. Headlights blinded the two friends as they looked back, dazed and rooted to the spot. As the car picked up speed they were spurred into action. Minhyun dove one way while his friend ran toward the exit, relentlessly pursued by the car.
It all happened so fast. Minhyun barely had chance to climb to his feet before his friend ripped open the exit door and was shot, point blank, by a gang member waiting on the other side. With the blood loss from the gunshot wound paired with various cuts and bruises from the exhausting gauntlet, Minhyun stood little chance of fighting his way to freedom. He let himself be thrown into the back of the car, let his body go limp and his eyes close. Minhyun decided there was only one way he was going to get out of this, and that was by playing almost dead.
Once the car left the parking garage, he made his escape. He opened the car door and toppled out, hitting the street with a thud and a groan. The car slowed, Minhyun resigned himself that this was the end, but it never came. Deciding to cut their losses and get out of the there, the driver and passengers sped past him.
Completely drained and in immeasurable pain, the only thing keeping Minhyun going was a potent mixture of adrenaline and anger. Luckily he didn’t need to go very far before he found someone kind enough to help him. After being patched up and nursed back to health, Minhyun decided to stay with his new friends. They happened to share the same view of the gangs and families and decided to join the Resistance.

Personality:
Always sweet and kind when off duty, but reserved and silent most of the time. More of a thinker, less of a talker. He knows how to differentiate his private life from his job and doesn’t step back from doing what he has to do.
Background:
Haneul was born in the winter of 2008 to a poor family. His father was an alcoholic, spending their already small income on booze, leaving him and his mother often starving. He didn’t have much, but as a kid he was content with what he had, thinking this is how life was meant to be lived.
Things started to change drastically when Haneul entered his teenage years. Chaos climbed up at a quick pace and, at the age of 14, Haneul was just an orphan living on the streets, not knowing how to pay the debts his parents left behind.
His mother fell sick and died shortly after, due to the lack of financial support. After his mother’s passing, the boy faced Hell, his father blaming Haneul for the passing of his wife. There was real hatred in the man’s eyes, and for the first time in his life, Haneul was scared.
The man started to avoid coming home, the only times when he did so was when he was drunk out of his mind, letting his fury and anger unleash upon the boy. Haneul never cried, no matter how much pain was inflicted.
His salvation came unexpected from unexpected places. A mysterious man found him and took him home, accepted the boy into his family. And for the first time it felt like Haneul was part of a real family, and he swore to protect them.
It started with small things such as lying and stealing. Haneul was sneaking around like a cat, always going undetected.
The first person he murdered was an old man, under the premise of “putting him out of his misery”. Haneul was 16 years old at the time. His first kill was the door that opened and guided him into a different world than the one he knew. Haneul lacked the skills at the time, but he had the vision and the brain, and despite of being a beginner, he always got away with murders.
Years went by and Haneul turned into the perfect grim reaper, never leaving a trace behind. His kills were always clean, making them look as simple accidents or suicides.

Personality:
deceitful. lying is more than his second nature; it’s a survival instinct. sunkyu feels no guiltier lying to the customers at the parlor than he does forging documents for any client.
amoral. sunkyu doesn’t question those who seek out the parlor’s less-legal services. most often, they want new IDs, new passports, new birth certificates. new identities. sunkyu doesn’t ask who they really are and what they’ve done with this identity that they have to leave it behind. he’s decided he doesn’t want to know.
sentimental. despite all attempts to make himself not feel, he is more prone to emotion than he will ever admit. nostalgia and guilt are the most potent, feeding and blending into one another in a constant cycle, and the remnants of his blind loyalty to his brother often still skew his decision-making.
idealistic. sunkyu does still believe that the world can be better but has no answer for the question of “how,” nor what can or should be sacrificed for the sake of it.
irresponsible. since his brother’s death, sunkyu has accepted that some things are truly out of his control and believes that he is only responsible for himself, because it is the only thing he can directly control. however, this has led him to become passive and thus complicit in the injustices that continue to plague the world, especially the larger consequences of his forgeries, as he dismisses them as things beyond his control.
Background:
amidst a fragmented childhood told through the names and streets of different foster homes, sunkyu salvages two things: his name and his twin brother. jang sunho is older by three minutes but acts as though they’re separated by three years, practically raising sunkyu himself. he crosses the lines that sunkyu would be too afraid to toe and says every word that would otherwise stay caught in sunkyu’s throat. he thinks himself a seer of the new future (“and it’s better than this, kyu-ah,” he says, voice brimming with promise, “the world gets better than this.”), and the promises he tells every customer who walks into their parlor are just as lofty.
sunkyu indulges him, leaning into the fantasy just as he leans into the sham of their work. the sleight of hand he learned pickpocketing in the streets helps his tarot readings seem more impressive, and the people-reading he learned from all of their failed forever homes helps him figure out what they want to hear.
it turns out that most just want to be told that everything’s going to be just fine. with the world on fire, they want someone to hold their hand as they watch until a savior comes to douse the flames.
said enough times, it isn’t long until sunkyu believes it too. and why wouldn’t he? his brother comes home every night with that very belief stamped in the blue-greys of his cheekbones and knuckles. he says he’s found a cause. it seems to give him hope, so sunkyu lets him be and quietly attends to the clients he brings back to the shop - those who need more than just the illusion of a new future. they need a real future, bought by a new identity that they pay sunkyu to forge for them.
like this, they make their living - and sunkyu must live, even if he must do so blindly.
the world gets better, isn’t that what his brother said? he must live to see it happen.
on an overcast tuesday afternoon, his brother comes home with a smile reeking of gasoline. we’re not alone anymore. we’re part of something bigger now, he tells sunkyu, eyes dreamlike. i’ve met our saviors. they herald the new world, and they call for me to be part of it.
sunkyu remembers his brother as vividly as the lines of a palm: standing in the doorway of their parlor, gaze upturned, always upturned, looking somewhere higher than sunkyu can ever hope to see. sunkyu remembers the hope that speared through his chest, so earnest that it hurt.
two days later, the city erupts into fire and smoke, screams and flesh in flames. there’s a death toll on every channel, too many names for sunkyu to read. the media pins the atrocity on a so-called resistance.
his brother doesn’t come home that night.
sunkyu doesn’t sleep. he sees his brother standing in the doorway, looking at the sky, and he never leaves, not even when sunkyu crafts him, offers him, begs him one new identity after the other.
the world gets better, his brother insists.
but now without the only family he’s had, the illusion that sunkyu had fought so hard to maintain is beginning to fracture.

Hi again, same anon! I just found this group and have been trying to make sure I don't get anything wrong dsjasg so for civilians, could they still do shady work? My muse is a forger and at first I thought freelancer since they're not quite "innocent", but they also feel no loyalties to Pyo and don't really advertise themselves as a freelancer, it's more like they'll just take work from whoever happens to find out what they do, so would they be more like a civilian instead? Sorry this got long!!
Hello again! Civilians can be anything you’d like them to be, including on the shadier side. Also don’t worry about getting things wrong, we aren’t very strict here and you’re very welcome to ask as many questions as you need!

hello! i'm interested in joining but i've never done twitter rp before, so i wondered how the tl and dms work in this setting and if there are any rules for interactions there? i.e. should interactions through there be written as if neither muse knows what gang/affiliation the other is from?
Yes, that's exactly it! Unless they're both in gangs/families that have an alliance with each other, then it can be assumed they are aware. We have specified group chats for each gang/affiliate group as well to boost interactions. As far as the tlist goes it is meant to be treated like your muse's own social media postings, where dms can be anything from full para scenes and threads to two muses simply texting/dming each other, and then the various IC group chats.

Personality:

Background:
Kang Kyuchul was born part of the illustrious Kang family, gang life all he had known. He was 19 when the water shortage occurred and watched as he and the rest of his family rose through the ranks of power to become one of the top forces in South Korea. It was a life of contrasts; rough and violent, yet they wanted for nothing. He watched as his older cousin Soyi rose to head of the family, though being the son of the youngest Kang he never had much reach in the tiers himself. Which suited him just fine, he was perfectly happy with his lot in life.
He had a habit of pulling off aegyo whenever he did want something though, which is how he found himself in a relationship with a member of another family. It lasted two years before he proposed, because by then he was 26 and it seemed like the right thing to do. Unluckily for everyone involved the Kang’s didn’t quite trust the girl, quietly hiring a private investigator to make sure she was trustworthy enough to enter the family.
It took five weeks and two days for Kyuchul to fall in love with the investigator. Anything he had ever felt for his fiancee seemed pale in comparison and a few weeks later he was calling off the engagement and packing a bag to run away. His cousin found it the perfect opportunity to be rid of yet another blood relation and told him that if he left he was never welcome back again.
The couple were married within a few months, on a whim whilst on vacation and their new life began. His husband continued his job as a private investigator, while Kyuchul worked hard to start up his own source of income away from his family. He became a dealer, often sourcing things and selling them to the highest bidder.
Those that  recognise his connection to the Kang family often ask him if he regrets what he did, but he can always firmly answer with never. Perhaps being part of a family of snakes had never suited him in the first place. Either way he much prefers life now with just him and his husband and their pets.

Personality:
Taesoo always knows just what to say. Regardless of situation, his way with words is his most dangerous weapon. He could charm the pants off Satan himself and have the devil signing away his soul before he even knows what’s happening. This makes Taesoo very good at his job as a private investigator, specifically when it comes to loosening lips to gather information.
He’s a notorious flirt and enjoys the pretty things in life. People, clothes, furniture, food, if it’s pleasing to the eye chances are Taesoo will be drawn to it.
His loyalties are questionable at best. Hiring him does not guarantee he won’t turn around and screw you over; for most of his clients that risk is worth the results. Taesoo will always do what he wants, when he wants. There is, however, one person he’s truly loyal to and that’s Kang Kyuchul.
Background:
Yeon Taesoo fell ass first into work as a Private Investigator. It all started with the right connections and the answering of a phone-call not meant for him. Being the charismatic and charming young man he was, Taesoo was not only able to bullshit his way through an interview with a client, but also drum up results pleasing enough to see him get paid a very pretty sum.
As the years went by, Taesoo made a name for himself among freelancers, gangs, and the families alike. Even if his loyalty to his employers occasionally came into question, his work spoke loud enough for itself to drown out any risks hiring him would pose.
It was that same reputation which caught the interest of the Kangs. They hired him to uncover any dirt on the fiancée of one of the family members, which Taesoo was more than happy to do seeing as they promised him a hefty payment for his troubles. The woman in question was, in his opinion, sinfully boring to the point he’d grow tired of tailing her and end up in a bar instead. The sole reason he didn’t give up on the case entirely after a few days was because of Kang Kyuchul. The man was very pretty and Taesoo had never been able to resist a pretty face. The two quickly fell in love and things started to unravel from there.
In a move quite unwise, Taesoo completely abandoned his job with the Kangs. He updated them on his intentions by means of a note, which simply read: the fiancée is no longer a problem, you’re welcome. Soon afterwards Taesoo and Kyuchul ran off together and enjoyed a whirlwind romance before eventually getting married while on holiday abroad. Three years later and the spontaneous couple are, surprisingly, still going very strong.

Background:
For the longest time Jiseok’s life was as normal as any other. His family suffered the exact same hardships as other families in his community did, with the rioting, the water shortage, and the government’s incompetence. Each time they faced a new problem he, his three older sisters and their parents, pulled through and came out on the other side even stronger than before. The four Kim siblings were close, and despite the fact he was the youngest by a few years and the only son, they spent most of their time together. Their parents were good honest people who taught their children that nothing comes without a price. If they wanted success, they’d have to work for it, and work is what Jiseok did.
In every aspect of his life he gave it his all. He pushed himself to his limits in order to excel in school, graduating early and 2nd in his year, then moving on to pass the university entrance exam with flying colours. University was difficult, not to mention expensive, but with the support of his older sisters, Jiseok successfully graduated with a  degree in medicine.
It was a normal, if somewhat tiring, life. By the time Jiseok found a hospital in which to intern, he was convinced he had his life under control. After all, he’d managed to outdo so many of his peers and defy expectations to get where he was, he couldn’t possibly imagine a scenario where his life took the nose dive that it did.
2033. Jiseok’s eldest sister Mijoo came home in tears. As the only other family member in the house, he was quick to scoop her up into a tight hug and promise that whatever had upset her, would sort itself out. Sadly things weren’t as simple as that. Mijoo had been assaulted and taken advantage of in the worst possible way. Jiseok was sworn to secrecy by his panicked sister, who looked so small and scared in that moment she could’ve been mistaken for the youngest. Having always had somewhat of a temper, Jiseok had to dull the rage building inside him. Instead he concentrated on comforting Mijoo and all thoughts of justice were pushed aside.
The man in question was a lowlife from Mijoo’s office. He’d wormed his way up the journalism career ladder by becoming an insufferable yes man and treading on his former co-workers in the process. Having always had an unrequited soft spot for Mijoo, he’d made an inebriated move on her at an office party when most people, excluding Mijoo’s ride, had already left.
In the following weeks Jiseok watched his once bright and sunny sister withdraw into the shadow of her former self. They spent less and less time together until life started to seem….dark. Jiseok’s temper grew more uncontrollable. He wanted to fix things, to heal his sister, to punish the lowlife who did such unspeakable things to her – but he couldn’t. Mijoo was terrified of anyone finding out and he couldn’t bear the thought of making things worse for her.
Until one day an opportunity for justice revenge arose, one Jiseok couldn’t ignore. Through discreet sleuthing, he’d managed to find out the man’s name quite a while ago, and that very same asshole turned up in hospital during the late hours of his shift one night. Alcohol poisoning. That in itself should have been enough but it wasn’t. He’d have his stomach pumped and be right as rain afterward, while Mijoo sat at home, her soul withering away.
It was easy. Scarily so. Jiseok entered the room while he slept, heart hammering, clenched fists shaking with all the anger he’d held in for such a long time. He watched him, lamented how his chest rose and fell, how he slept so peacefully. How dare he carry on as if nothing had happened, unpunished and none the wiser to the suffering he’d caused – was causing. He tiptoed to a drawer and grabbed an empty syringe. Jiseok felt as though he wasn’t even in control. His body moved on its own and before he could think clearly, he’d already stabbed the syringe into his chest. The needle pierced his heart and the air within the syringe did the rest.
Time seemed to move at an accelerated pace once the deed was done. The heart monitor sounded loudly as the man lay there dying, and suddenly Jiseok realized what he’d done. He grabbed the syringe and, in the chaos as nurses rushed in to revive the patient, he slipped out of the room and right out of the hospital. With the adrenaline wearing off and the weight of taking a human life growing upon his shoulders, Jiseok struggled home, the syringe still clutched in his hand. Once he was in his apartment he slid to the floor and called the one person he knew would understand.
“Mijoo, I saw him lying there and I just couldn’t– I couldn’t stop myself. I have the syringe in my hand, oh god–”
“What are you talking about? Ji?”
“I killed him. I just killed him.”
For a moment, Mijoo seemed like her old self. Strong and bright, she convinced Jiseok not to turn himself in. Working in the journalism branch had its perks, one of which was being privy to all manner of rumours and the eldest Kim child had heard many about the Yeon family. If Jiseok could offer them his services as a medical professional, perhaps they could offer him protection from the consequences of his actions. Sure enough, Jiseok was taken in and his involvement in the murder was swept under the rug. After all, the guy was a nobody in comparison to the grand scheme of things. What was one less lowlife?
