How did Hunter stop being afraid of Darius' Abominations in the Runaway Legacies AU?
He just started associating it more with Darius and less with Belos as he got older and memories from the castle started to fade. At first he was only okay with it as long as he could see that Darius was the one attached to it, and then as he got older, you know, it seemed like an "irrational" fear that was "something he was scared of when he was younger" like the dark or a monster under the bed.

pops in here bc I’ve been writing Resident Evil crossover AUs for fun (and angst) and I have a fun little idea for you!
so, re4make has dropped some interesting and tasty lore about Los Illuminados, aka the parasite cult that makes up the main bad guys in this particular game. according to the new lore, they popped up in 1554 and were exiled from their old place in 1741. now, we know that mutations and parasites and viruses can possibly extend somebody’s life in REverse beyond their natural lifespan and also make them far more durable than humans. I was thinking—Edward Kenway gets killed in 1735. this we’re well aware of. but what if he wasn’t?
say that Birch is aware of Los Iluminados and their work. he wants to keep a closer eye on them since he hears a lot about Las Plagas and its hive mind abilities, but he’s not about to risk becoming a part of their hive mind—he doesn’t entirely trust this cult. and he has a pesky Assassin who’s just found out that he’s actually a Templar, and who has a book and a son he would defend. if he survives the night—and it’s damn near a guarantee that he would, Birch has heard that he once cleared a whole deck of a galleon on his own—there’s nothing stopping him from taking up his sword and beelining to Birch and just cutting down every last member of the British Rite. but he can’t do that, if he has a bug inside his head.
so Edward gets knocked unconscious, and dragged off to the cult. now Birch has a reason to keep an eye on the cult, and he’s taken Edward out of the picture with no one the wiser for it.
years later—hundreds of years later—Desmond Miles, 17yo runaway, gets kidnapped along with Ashley Graham for whatever reason. maybe he saw too much and immediately launched himself at Krauser and actually managed to acquit himself pretty well in a fight, only to get stuffed into a van along with a very terrified First Daughter. Leon goes to find them.
in the meantime, Saddler has a very fucked-up Edward stand guard, and Desmond starts to talk to this guy, bc something about him seems…not quite the same as the rest of the cult. there’s some core of humanity still holding stubbornly on inside him, even if he looks pretty bad off, if not heavily mutated by now. which is how Leon ends up finding both Ashley and Desmond having managed to get a very snarly pirate to help break them out and has to gently convince said pirate that yes he really is here to help them please put that pitchfork down sir.
Oooohhh, if you wanted to, you can even include one of Ezio’s or Aquilar’s descendants in the lore as well, maybe even both? 1554 is around the time Flavia and Marcello would be 20~21 years old. Old enough to be Assassins that would be sent to foreign lands to help other Brotherhoods. We can even have them be sent by the current mentor of the Spanish Brotherhood because of this cult that supposed worship something ‘strange’. The mentor thought that the Italian Brotherhood who had a mentor who had been quite verse in strange things would have an idea of what they’re dealing with. Flavia or Marcello (or both if you want) asks to be sent because it seems connected to the precursors and, as Ezio Auditore’s children, it’s their duty to continue their father’s legacy.
They meet up with Aquilar’s child (or grandchild maybe?) and they help in exiling Los Illuminados, making the cult hate them and the Brotherhood in the process.
It’s because of their hatred for the Brotherhood that Birch was able to have a distant alliance with them and it’s because of his connection with the cult that Edward starts to suspect him as being a Templar.
(To sprinkle more angst, how about Haytham saw his father being dragged away and tried to save him, killing one of the kidnappers which ends with Teresa seeing him as a cold blooded killer and he is indoctrinated by Birch as a way to try and find Edward but never found him. After learning Birch was the leader of his father’s kidnapping, he gives up on Edward because Birch burned all evidence that will link him to Edward and the Los Illuminados)
Okay, so we go to the Ashley and Desmond part of the story.
Ashley is around 20 years old when she was abducted so, if you’d like, she could be in New York to shop or something when she was kidnapped. Desmond was on his way to his first shift in Bad Weather and saw a woman struggling while being dragged into a car with men looking like professional bodyguards (suit, sunglasses, wired ear pieces) on the ground, unconscious maybe? Dead even?
Desmond didn’t have time to think, his body reacted and he punched one of them. He starts to fight them off while telling the girl to run and the girl tried to, screaming for help but there were more men than they expected but her screaming (and his battle cries, they were not screams, they were battle cries damn it) was attracting attention so they had to book it quickly and Desmond was swept alongside the girl in the process.
Leon is briefed that an unknown man with no past of his own may be with the president’s daughter and he’s a low priority. The most that Leon is expected to do is find out who he was and if he was truly just taken alongside the Ashley because he tried to be a good Samaritan.
Now Saddler though…
Saddler had planned to kill Desmond from the very beginning but then he noticed something peculiar.
Desmond looked familiar.
So he let Desmond live because he needs to find out why Desmond looks familiar at all. He orders Edward to guard them and to keep them there.
Leon starts doing his job and Saddler gets sidetracked.
When he heard that Edward had ‘betrayed’ them, he realized why Desmond looked so familiar.
In one of the oldest journals written by his ancestors, there were sketches of the three Assassins who led to their fall and exile.
And two of them…
… looked very similar to Desmond Miles.
So now, Saddler believes Desmond is a descendant of those who exiled them and wants to infect him as well.
Because what better revenge is there than to have a descendant of those who wronged them become their ‘property’?
Unorganized Notes:
I like to imagine Ashley and Desmond become friends immediately, with Desmond helping Ashley stay calm while Ashley gives Desmond something he wanted ever since he was a child, a close friend.
Ashley would definitely not leave without Desmond and Desmond would do everything he can to keep Ashley safe.
Edward ‘recognize’ Desmond, in a way that Desmond reminds him of his young son, but he doesn’t understand it, because the infection inside him mutated thanks to his ‘bloodline’, so he’s not exactly the same as the others.
Edward will be conflicted though because his infection would make him want to obey the cult but he can't hurt Desmond at all. He doesn't want to and his body will never allow it.
Is it his own free will? The reminder of a past long gone? Or...

That "Joseph doesn't like being held to the Joestar name standard" thing made me think. AU where Joseph, age like 10 or something, runs away from home after being compared to Jonathan one too many times. Meets some funny friends (one with a stand and one without any powers and maybe a dog too) and commits Bizarre Adventure. Not sure what the plot would be? Also for some reason when I try to think of his friends my brain comes up with Emporio, kid Avdol but from the early 1900s lmao
i love this for likea number of reasons between like
avdol wouldnt be alive until joseph was in his twentys at least, so the idea of abdul just somehow being there is just a lil funny
also i KNOW josephs ass would suck at running away. 10 year old joseph would say he's running away, pack a bindle and sit on the curb down the street. the only way he would end up actually "running away" is when he finally gives up on sitting on that curb, starts to walk home but gets dragged into some bullshit
lastly, this reminded me of this fucking joseph post i made forever ago back when i had been under the assumption joseph grew up in new york
i do love the idea of a runaway teen joseph going under erinas maiden name, because he is tired of everyone knowing him and his grandfather and their name
whether its about being treated as some heros grandkid, or the brat from that rich family. and getting some stupid idea about making a name for himself that he doesnt need to lean on jonathans legacy to be his own person.

Just remembered a really old PJO x Hamilton au I had that got started because I was re-reading the first 5 books and it mentioned that most famous US figures (more specifically, a large portion of the founding fathers) were Greek and Roman demigods.
I decided I wanted to bring that crossover back, so here are some headcanons (could be modern au, the original timeline, or maybe a reincarnation. Take your pick, it’s not really specified)
-Philip and Catherine Schuyler had a habit of bringing gods and goddesses alike into bed with them for threesomes of all stripes, usually as a casual fling, though occasionally the deity wanted an actual relationship. This ends up with all the Schuyler sisters having different godly parents.
-To continue on that train of thought: Angelica is either a child of Athena or Nemesis, Peggy is a child of Persephone, and Eliza is a child of Aphrodite. Of the three, only Eliza has formally rejected her godly heritage, although she will accept occasional boons from Hestia
-Alexander himself is, shockingly, not a demi-god or legacy of any sort. He is aware of both the Greeks and the Romans because he got accepted to the New Rome university and then started trying to forcibly make himself clear-sighted. Somehow, this works.
-Hercules is the only child of Hera. When he was discovered, she nearly killed him to maintain her reputation, before coming to a compromise that he would never interact with the Demi-god camps or make the Olympians aware of him. He was named after her, which on one hand makes her really happy, but on the other hand, it serves as a reminder of her husband’s most successful infidelities.
-Lafayette is, rather unsurprisingly, another child of Aphrodite (maybe a legacy of Dionysus? remains to be seen)
-John is a child of Apollo who cannot sing to save his life.
-Washington, as per in the books, is a child of Athena. He’s largely distanced himself from the Greek side of his heritage, but will open his door for any and all runaway or questing demi-gods.
-Burr is a legacy (more specifically, a grandchild) of one of the death gods, I personally think Thanatos or Hades but literally anyone works, that has shockingly strong abilities when it comes to seeing the otherworldly (including non-Greek mythological creatures). This does end up coming at the cost of most offensive abilities he could have had, but Burr doesn’t really mind that. He is slightly bothered that he was left in the hands of his abusive and very religious uncle rather than taken to camp, but he tries not to create a grudge out of it because God knows he will never get rid of that resentment.

2022 Fic Year in Review
Total Word Count: 89,420 (new fics and wip updates; does not include stuff I’ve written but not posted)
I'm always surprised when I do a tally at the end of the year and see just how many words/stories I've written; it never feels like very much but it's always more than I expected. I also wrote a lot of Erik/Shaw and Erik/Other this year, and a lot a lot of bottom!Erik lol. Who knew I would fall in love with omega!Erik 10 years into this fandom? :D :D :D

Summary: Erik Lehnsherr – Shaw’s ward, lover and most potent killer, warped from a young age and tragic circumstances to follow him obediently and without question. It really was a thing of beauty, how Shaw was able to shape Lehnsherr into a finely honed weapon, with nothing but blunt and clumsy tools like fear and intimidation.
But Charles would make Erik love him, and own him utterly in a way that Shaw could never hope to accomplish.

Hollow Fantasy AU part 3:
part 2 / part 4
Days pass as the group grows closer as friends. Eventually, Vanessa flies as Skeet speeds forward, both of them rejoining the group and exclaiming that there was a village not far off. Everyone cheers, picking up pace and reaching the village in no time. When they near the village Mira nudges Adam. “Do you think he’s going to be here?” Adam involuntarily perks up at that before immediately frowning and shaking his head, ignoring her. Vanessa raises an eyebrow at that and Skeet sighs. They enter the mundane village and rent a room in an inn. The sky darkens as they prepare for bed. Adam mentions that he’ll be staying up to look at the map and try to figure out where exactly they are after learning the name of the village. Mira scolds him while Skeet and Reeve object. Adam insists. That is until Reeve knocks him out with a sleeping spell, explaining to the others that it only works on people who are thoroughly exhausted. Everyone else continues to get ready for bed, Vanessa breaking the silence. “What were you talking about before? That someone might be here?” The group grows quiet, only for Mira to pipe up and talk about their old red-head friend who’d runaway under mysterious circumstances. She explains that they were all pretty close and shares stories of Kai from the few days he stayed with them, Reeve and Skeet interjecting with their own stories as well. Mira finishes by saying they all hope that they’ll find him on their journey. “If I’m being completely honest, deep down I think Adam might care about finding Kai more than the Ishibo. But he’d never admit that. He was always trained and told- as a guard! That he would find the ishibo, so he knows thats more important.” Vanessa agrees, stating it was best to focus on the goal at hand.
They wake up the next morning to loud scratchy exclamations outside the inn. They get up, preparing their stuff and walking outside. Once they leave the inn they’re met with a huge crowd surrounding what appears to be two monks standing on the townsquares wooden stage. They shout out to the crowd in their monk robes, waving a flier around, “come everyone come! And hear of the great warrior… AKUMA!!!” The monks roar the name, exclaiming that Akuma is the mightiest warrior in the land, with his glowing weapon that could poison thousands. Adam perks up at those words, straining his ears to listen. “We’re looking for your strongest fighters! Whoever can enter Akumas arena and beat the ghastly beast will be rewarded handsomely!” Adam straightens, maneuvering through the crowd until he was right beneath the monks. “Is the beast a dragon?” He asks. The Monks share a weird glance, “why yes, lucky guess!” Adams hopes skyrocket. “Is the reward the ishibo?” One of the monks look bewildered, “what? No. Its just money…” they answer. Adam frowns at that, face furrowing. “Adam what are you doing?!?!” Adams friends join him in the middle of the crowd, sharing looks of incredulity. “Id like to join the arena!” Adam proclaims. The crowd grows silent. “Excellent!” The monks cry, handing Adam a map, “this’ll direct you to the location! Good luck! You’ll need it!” The monks leave, the crowd dispersing, eyeing Adam while whispering to one another. Adam unfolds the map as his friends surround him to look over his shoulder. The map showcases that the arena wasn’t far from where they are, probably just a day or two, or a few hours on horseback if they’re able to afford a ride. Fortunately, a horse is not needed. The word of a new-maybe-champion spreads, a carriage soon presented to the group to escort them to the arena. Adam stops his friends, explaining to then that this was his prophecy, his legacy, and that they shouldn’t have to come. That they could stay safe inside the village. They all ignore him, and his meaningful speech, hopping into the carriage. Adam sighs in exasperation, climbing inside as well.
They travel through foresty terrain until they reach a clearing, bringing them to dry Akki Mountains. It was a medium sized town with rocky roads and red houses. The carriage bumped uncomfortable, clay monks of all sizes staring as they pass, some grin from the sidewalk, other laugh from their houses. It sends the group an uneasy chill down their spines. Finally they reach the center of the town. The friend group looks around, Skeet asking the carriage driver where the arena was. The driver points up and they all tilt their heads, finally spotting long chains holding a gigantic floating rock in the sky. The carriage driver dumps them out in a hurry, speeding off and out of the creepy town. The friend group glance around to see multiple clay monks staring at them and decide to begin their climb. Skeet and Vanessa take turns carrying people to the top. Once they reach the peak, they stand on smooth dirt flooring, staring ahead and spotting the fighting arena. The arena is humongous, stadium walls reaching the sky. The stadium is the first thing they notice, the second thing being a red tannish temple right in front of it. They walk towards it, a looming dark archway that leads inside the temple beckoning them. They all enter the temple, realizing it was in fact a monastery. They eye what they assume is Akuma, sitting upon a throne with monks by his side. “Which one of you volunteered to battle the beast?” He asks. Adam walks forward, apart from the group, “me.” Akuma grins, “very well then, I hope you’re ready, most people aren’t. Now, for the fact that you’ve gotten this far and havent let cowardice drive you away,—” “I have no interest in your reward.” Adam interrupts. The monks tilt their spears towards Adam, glaring. Akuma puts up a hand. “No reward?” He questions. “I didn’t say that,” Adam answers “I said I have no interest in your reward.” Akuma hums, “what do you have in mind?” Adam points to the staff in Akumas hand. “the ishibo.” The monks are on guard. Akuma blinks at him for a second before laughing. “I agree to your terms.” He swings the staff around in his hand, obviously disbelieving that Adam will even escape the battle alive. “You may enter the armory and pick a weapon,” a secret entryway from underneath Akumas throne opens. “From there you will enter the arena and make your way towards your death.” He gestured towards the rest of the group, “your companions will be escorted to the stadium,” he moved his hand to the entry way, “good luck.”

She Had Affections and Warm Youthful Blood
Juliette tries to bandage up her bleeding girlfriend.
This was written for AngellTheNinth for the 2023 Battleship Exchange. I'll let the reader decide if this is a canon-divergent AU where the girls actually ran away during episode 5 or if it's a post-canon fic where the girls made up and ran away together.

Nowhere were they safe. They had left Savannah all those months ago for safety. They had left so they could be happy without the pressures of their families, and they had escaped that a hundred miles away from where Juliette had grown up. But they were no safer here than they were there. Monsters lurked all around them. Some of them were hunting the runaway legacy. Some of them wanted revenge on the Guild. A hunter who was almost completely alone was a perfect target, and her companion.
And neither of them was eating much right now. They weren’t as strong as they could have been.
Juliette wasn’t sure who had attacked them this time. They hadn’t spoken; they had just attacked Cal first. And down Cal had gone. Juliette had seen red, and the monster was soon dead. All the training, all the practice spars that had turned into passionate kisses, had made Juliette more capable in a fight. But more importantly, Juliette had been crying, not knowing if Calliope was alive or dead. It was much easier to take down a paralyzed monster than a live one.
But Cal had groaned in pain, a most beautiful noise, indicating that she was alive.
And that she had been stabbed in the leg. They couldn’t go to a hospital; not if they didn’t want to be sent back to Savannah or wherever the Guild had sent the Burns family. And so, despite every warning to never pull the impaling object out of a non-Legacy because it would make everything worse, Juliette had to pull the rebar out of her girlfriend’s leg.
To Calliope’s credit, she barely screamed. But she was sobbing from pain. Juliette wanted to comfort her, to tell her that it was going to be okay. That Juliette would get Cal all bandaged up and then they could go get painkillers. That the wound wasn’t that deep.
But it was. It was deep enough for the blood to flow freely, and Calliope’s blood smelled so good. It was mouthwatering, and so Juliette kept her mouth shut.
“Jules? How bad is it?”
Juliette kept her head down, lips pressed together in a thin line. The blood soaking through the bandages called to her.
“Jules, tell me.”
Juliette’s neck twitched. She tried so hard not to shake her head. She knew she meant to say that she couldn’t talk. She knew that Calliope would interpret it incorrectly.
Cal knew her well enough to know that Juliette was trying not to shake her head. Her breathing sped up.
Juliette opened her mouth to comfort her girlfriend and the intoxicating taste hit her lips, her mouth, her tongue. She had tasted Calliope’s blood once and her body ached to taste it again. It was a bond left unbroken, a promise left unfulfilled.
I’ll never hurt you.
“You’ll be fine.” Juliette spoke quickly and then bit down on her lips, sharp and hard enough to pierce her own flesh, taste her own blood.

Hey Everyone, Here’s a brief list why I think it would have been so very fun if Preston had died in GG6?
By fun I mean ouchie but this has always been one of my favourite AUs.
It’s been awhile since I read book 6, so these are just some quick thoughts
Firstly: Why kill Preston in book 6? And that's because he did in earlier edits of the book. Like all the “Who won’t make it to Graduation” promo back in the day, that was Preston dying. Ally took it out sometime before the final draft obviously but I think it was pretty late and she implied it was a messy death.
I don’t think most of this matters when Preston dies, but the most obvious place is when escaping the prison, where instead of Bex taking a bullet and being alright, Preston takes a bullet and isn’t alright. And so for clarity, this list assumes he dies then
Macey - A nice and obvious one but with lots of layers.
Macey has known Preston for years, he pre-dates her spy lifestyle, but he keeps getting drawn into this life, it doesn’t suit him and it’s dangerous. The other girls at Gallagher ‘see’ Macey, as one of their own, a sister. Bex/Liz see her as a best friend, someone to trust. Cam sees Macey as someone struggling with a legacy and her own expectations. But Preston sees Macey as who she really is; Not what she can’t do, Not what she can do, Not what she looks like, Not who she wants to be, Not who she expects to be, Not who she wishes to be but who she really is
And one of Macey’s main motivation in books 5 and 6 is keeping Preston safe. She’s trusting these girls, trusting these adults and trusting all this training to be able to do this.
Cammie - Our main girl
Cammie probably knows her runaway summer would have been so much worse if she hadn’t found Preston. He saw her kick a few adult men and recognised what he saw changing and growing in Macey, she already had. She doesn’t remember him saving her, he won’t remember saving him because she didn’t, he died.
Cammie also see’s both father and son die, couldn’t save either. But at least Preston doesn’t have to experience the pain of losing a parent (she knows how that feels)
Failure & it’s consequences - honestly the main point here
The girls have had missions go wrong before but its always been recoverable. In fact, let’s take an aside and remember the first time we see them fail in LYKY - the bottle/josh meet lesson, at the end of that Joe gives a very clear warning, if shit goes wrong, people can die. Now isn’t that fun.
You can’t work out another plan once someone's dead. This is a real life changing impact and consequence of them messing up.
The rescue mission was unsanctioned by the adults (as this is a quick list, we’re not touching implications for them) so its on the girls. They didn’t ask for help to get him out of Italy and it got him in prison, they didn’t ask for help getting him out and he’s dead, they risked their own lives for nothing, nothing else came out of that mission it was just rescue Preston.
It’s also going to kill moral, a massive failure right as we climb into the climax.
And there is the unknown, they changed fate, if he’d stayed in the prison the circle may have never have come for him, he might have been fine. But they chose to try and rescue him, and sealed his future, into a coffin.
The Circle & Preston as earnestness
Its very likely, if Preston died, he would died before ever fulling clearing his name, people would have never known if he had a connection to the circle.
And I think that's important, because Preston is such a good character. In political situations we see him follow the flow in dances, but he is kind to the old lady votes with an extra layer of sincerity that most wouldn’t expect from him. He worries about Charlie and Cammie and Macey because he sees and cares for people.
He is such a sincere, kind, open hearted person, who would die with a stain on his name he did not deserve.
