“I wanted a thousand different things as we stood there, but most of all, I wanted the girl who had been beside me in Boston to turn and realize that I was beside her now. ... “This feels like a safe house.” She finally turned to look at me. “Doesn't it feel safe, Cam?” “Yeah, Macey,” I said softly. “It does.”

Is it too much to ask for a fic on zach's pov when he foubd macey instead of cammie? TwT
Anon, I love you. I love all of you, but this ask in particular got me so excited lol. I love this scene. It's absolutely not too much to ask.
I went back and reread, for anyone curious, we're looking at OGSY Chapter 23.
Cammie had once tried to make a joke to Zach about some guy hitting 'like a girl'. To which Zach had replied 'not the girls I know'. It was true. He spent one semester with the Gallagher Girls and that was enough to know those girls could hit and make it count. Even after being on the receiving end of hits from Cammie, Bex, and even Liz, nothing prepared him for Macey.
Because of course Macey McHenry couldn't just hit him with her fists. Of course it had to be much worse.
There was no mistaking her face. The wig and the jacket and the sheer fact that he wanted it to be Cammie were enough when she had her back to him. But now he felt himself reeling backwards as if she had slapped him.
"Macey?" he heard himself ask, even though he already knew it to be true. The girls had played him. "Where's Cammie?"
"You look disappointed to see me," Macey replied, coyly. Zach didn't miss how she didn't answer the question. "Don't you like my jacket?"
Zach felt his anger flare up then. He couldn't tell what it was about Macey wearing his jacket rather than Cammie that turned his shocked expression into a glare, but it happened. Call it possessiveness or toxic masculinity or whatever, he didn't care. "Where is she?" he demanded. He recovered from his steps backwards earlier and closed some of that distance between them.
"At school, watching from a live video feed," Macey said. "She's safe." she added. As if that would make everything better. Maybe it should have. But it didn't.
"The jammers at the school won't allow that, Macey," he said, shaking his head. Macey was a great liar, but the girls often forgot that Zach knew too much. At least enough to warrant a little bit of a better effort for him. "Now where is she? I know she's around here somewhere." He started turning, trying to see if he could find her. She wouldn't leave her roommates to do this on their own. Sure, Macey was the only one out at the moment, but where there was one Gallagher Girl there were always others.
As if to prove his point another voice answered him. "She's safe where she is, Zach." Bex said, emerging to join them. "And we're going to keep it that way."
Zach fought the urge to roll his eyes. At some point these girls really decided they were the law. That they were the only people who cared about Cammie. "I need to talk to her."
"So talk," Macey said, nonchalantly. "We've got comms. She can hear you."
"I need to see her," Zach amended. He spoke very much in the tone of a person who would not settle for less than what he wanted. He hoped they were at least being honest that Cammie could hear him. That she might hear the desperation in his voice and let that fuel her own curiosity (that he knew she had) and come out of wherever she was hiding from.
"You stay where you are!" Bex exclaimed, into her earpiece.
It worked. Zach would have smiled, if he anticipated he and Cammie having a happy reunion.
"She's lucky to have you," he told Bex and Macey after a moment. As annoying as they were when trying to protect Cammie from him, it was a bit of a relief knowing the lengths they would go to. "She needs you."
Instead of acknowledging what he'd said, Macey turned to him again. "What are you doing here, Zach?" she asked, a last ditch effort to get something out of this plan before Cammie did whatever she was planning.
"It's complicated," Zach said. He was certain Cammie was going to join them any moment. All he had to do was stall.
"So un-complicate it."
He'd never been so relieved and elated to hear her voice. He spun to face her immediately. She was there. Real and in front of him and alive. Based on the distance between them she was hesitant and unsure, but that didn't matter to him. She was sure enough to be there.
"You're with him," Cammie said. It took that for Zach to realize he hadn't said anything upon her arrival, just stood there, taking her in.
"Technically, he's on an errand halfway around the world right now," he joked. It didn't land though. He could see Cammie's thoughts racing a mile a minute. He moved away from her friends and towards her, testing to see if she would bolt. She didn't, but Zach wasn't certain she'd caught the movement.
"Liz and Macey told me that just because you go to Blackthorne doesn't mean-," her voice caught and Zach felt it tug his heart right along with it. He closed more of the space between them, not thinking about her words or anything else except the heartbroken look on her face as she said, "But you really are with him."
"Gallagher girl," he tried. "Listen to me."
"So, what happened, Zach? Did the Circle recruit you, too?"
Zach fought the urge to flinch. The clock was ticking and time was running out on how much longer he could keep the truth from her. There were only a few steps between them now. Cammie hadn't moved back, but Zach could no longer bring himself to cross them. "Not exactly," he whispered, not able to look at her as he said it. It wasn't even a full admission and still the words burned in his throat.
Cammie studied him for a moment, he could feel her eyes on him. Out of the corner of his eye he saw her flinch. He hated the idea that he could potentially cause such a reaction from her. She swallowed, hard. "What are you doing here, Zach?" she tried again.
"He asked me to get a message to you."
"So send me a message!" she exclaimed. "What was so important that I had to risk my friends' safety to sneak out here? Huh? What was so-,"
"I had to see you," Zach cut her off. Her questions were valid, more valid than his reasoning. Much less selfish, too. But it was the truth. He had to make her see it, to understand it. He closed last remaining space between them. Removing his hands from his pockets, he held her hands in his. Hers were cold as he looked into her eyes. "I had to know that you were okay," he went on. He was searching her face for any sign of his sincerity getting through to her. Any sign that it was enough to earn some of her trust back. "I had to see you and touch you and know."
She didn't say anything, just studied him. His hand moved away from hers, brushing some of her hair behind her ear. The tips of his fingers trailed away from her ear, down her jaw, and lingered on her face a moment. "In London...after DC..." he wasn't quite sure what he was saying at that point. There was too much to be said and no way to do it.
"I'm fine," Cammie spoke at last. She tried taking a step back from him despite Zach still holding both of her hands in one of his. "CAT scans and X-Rays were normal. No lasting damage."
Zach felt his anger rise again. But it was different this time. He wasn't mad at Cammie or anyone else. Rather, he couldn't believe that's what she thought he was worried about. That in this moment that was what he meant. That those words would erase his concerns.
"Really?" he asked. The words were soft and gentle, in direct opposition to how he felt internally. His hand came back up to her face, this time cupping her cheek. He felt her shiver slightly as her cold skin adjusted to the warmth of his hand. "Cause I'm not."

Can the Gallagher Girls cook?
Bex: Oh lord, where to start? As the only child of two highly active field agents, Bex is everything a good spy must be. Stunning, wickedly smart, charismatic, etc. She's also painfully British. Her kitchen skills are limited to boiling potatoes and putting the kettle on for tea. Sure, she knows what good cooking tastes like. She's surrounded by it all year long. But when she's not at school or tagging along with her parents on international ops, Bex sustains herself primarily through protein shakes and Indian takeaway.
Cammie: Cooking abilities (or lack thereof) run matrilineally in her family. No further explanation needed.
Liz: She's a chemistry genius. Liz can take any household item and turn it into an improvised explosive. She's worked out how to transform the entire contents of Macey's makeup bag into a lethal poison. What she can't figure out is how to make a decent pot of rice. See, cooking is an art and Liz is a scientist. Recipe instructions like "cook until just right" or "season to taste" just don't make sense to her. How is she supposed to "add a pinch" of salt when there's no precise metric measurement for a pinch? How can she cook something over "medium heat" when she has no idea exactly how many kelvins "medium heat" is? Her poor, sweet Alabama Nana has firmly banned Liz from the kitchen after her last attempt at chicken casserole resulted in a hole melted straight through the stovetop.
Macey: No way the mid-2000s, "I only eat 800 calories a day" heiress would know her way around a kitchen, right? Wrong. For the first 15 years of her life, Macey McHenry would not be caught dead in a kitchen. Starving socialites had no business hanging around "unnecessary calories". Her relationship with cooking develops over the first winter break back from Gallagher. A desire for coffee after pulling an all-nighter puts her in the kitchen at the exact same time as the family chef. Her newfound interest in learning keeps her perched on a barstool, observing as the chef starts to prepare their breakfasts. It becomes a routine, and soon enough she's dicing onions and flipping omelets right next to them. By the time she returns for the spring semester, Macey not only enjoys eating but knows how to make most of her favorite foods without help.

"what is a gallagher girl? she's a genius, a scientist, a heroine, a spy."
(a first pass at some character-focused photoillustrations and graphics, with the majority of the images sourced from the library of congress's archives. a fun distraction from work!)

If cammie went to college, what do you think the other girls (Anna, Tina, Mick etc) as well as Zach and Preston did after graduation?
OH BOY :DDDDDD!!!
this one is a long one good lord
Anna Fetterman
went into the field but for her civilian disguise, she's training to be a pilot.
She actually had to go through said training to keep up the disguise.
She does undercover work and honestly it's quite scary to realize Anna could've been on the same mission as some of her friends or coworkers as silent backup and they might not always spot her.
Married Carl (her boyfriend from book 1) and has two amazing daughters now
can and will surprise visit her friends just to keep them on their toes (she and Macey do coffee dates where they try out new cafes and chat)
Eva Alvarez
worked in the field for a few years in the FBI but after Kim Lee got seriously injured she left quickly
currently works a simple 9-5 office job and helps out in her community because even without being a super spy she can still help change the world
Kim Lee
did go to a community college to get an associate's degree in engineering and later continued to pursue a higher education in that field
even after her injury, Kim stayed in the field but soon moved into lab work making gadgetry and usually explosive prototypes. She did accidentally microwave one prototype and Eva put her on bed rest until she could correctly count the number of fingers Eva was holding up
Mick Morrison
went to college with Tina Walters as they had planned a long time ago
Got a degree in kinesiology and tried working in the field for a few years but she could never feel like it was really her place
When an opening for a new P&E assistant coach opened up Mick gave it a shot and found she really loved teaching
Sits beside Liz at the teachers table in the Grand Hall and they share gossip about their students
Courtney Bauer
worked for the CIA for quite some time. Stayed in the field as she found it was the place and path for her. Her civilian disguise was at first just a fresh out of high school young adult traveling the world to find herself. Now she's in a 'complicated business' that requires her to go overseas a lot but she fights tooth and nail to make it home for the holidays, big events, etc
she's usually late or the last to arrive and no one lets her live it down
(she was at least early to the reunion)
She, Eva, and Tina stayed close
those three idiots could never just fall apart even if they sometimes go weeks with zero communication
Tina W Walters
took some time after the fire to heal and breathe
went to college alongside Mick Morrison. Worked damn hard for that journalism degree and while she technically fulfilled her legacy as a third-generation gossip columnist, she's got a lot going on behind the scenes.
Worked for a short time in the field for the CIA like the rest of the Walters Women of the past
Changed to being a recruiter after mending her relationship with her mom and has nearly doubled the class count with how many girls she's adopted recruited
unknowingly became the next Buckingham for most of these girls and ya know Rachel it would've been nice to, you know, TELL HER SHE WAS ON THE DAMN PAYROLL
99.99% of her gossip papers are all about Macey, it's so damn funny
Macey helps by the way, they bond over it
there is an infamous page 10 Tina wrote one day that was more of a petty revenge thing than a 'lol taking shit about Macey for my job' thing
The much anticipated Preston freaking Winters
I'm not honestly sure
He spent a lot of time with his mom for sure, she didn't know anything after all and she just lost her husband. He wasn't going to let her lose her son too
did a lot of soul-searching but I'm not sure how much he stayed in politics. He might've honesty just stayed to keep in the loop about anything nefarious and found a way to contact his favorite girls
probably had to go underground with his mom for a while as the Circle scrambled after their leaders were gone (he is an heir technically)
I'd like to think he and Macey still talked but they didn't date for quite some time. They both needed to heal but they were there for each other. Who else could possibly understand them better than the other?
Zach Goode
from what I personally think along with the timeline of the books I do believe Zach went straight into the field while Cam did halfsies with school and work
did a lot of leg work with Bex since she also went straight into the field and while they were technically working for different agencies they're still a goofy little duo that know each other well enough to figure out where on earth they might be off to
attended some of Cammie's classes with her sometimes, mostly when he had downtime and wanted to just be with her or even take notes for her when she wasn't feeling too good
i refuse with all of my ass to believe he waited ten years to propose (sorry y'all but have you SEEN HIM)
if you guys wanna hear about any OCs do let me know because I will totally talk about the Background Girlstm

What's your favorite scene/scenes in each of the book?
Hi friend!
Here’s my favorite scene/scenes in each book! Spoilers!
LYKY: when Joe Solomon walks through the doors of the Grand Hall and sits down and says “sorry I’m late, Rachel.” When Joe Solomon is late to the first CoveOps class and tells the girls that he is preparing them for life outside in the field. “Get good, ladies. Or get dead.” Meeting Macey McHenry for the first time. “Tell Suzy she’s a lucky cat.” “For the first time in a long time, when thinking about my father, I felt like smiling, too.” Macey and the girls finally being friends. And anytime Joe Solomon talks about his bestie Matthew Morgan.
CMH: (this is gonna be long because this is my fave book) the girls trying to break into Rachel’s office. Finding out that Joe went to Blackthorne. The trip to DC. Flirting. Zach. Guggenheim Academy. “They say you’re a real pavement artist.” The ball scene. “Zach knew me.” The CoveOps final. “I always finish what I start.” Zach dipping Cammie in the middle of the foyer. The kiss. Just all things Zach!
DJGC: Macey’s cover! Cam seeing Zach everywhere. Meeting Aunt Abby for the first time. Preston. Abigail Cameron flirting with Joe Solomon. “You gonna let me up now?” Zach jumping out of the moving train. Abby talking about Matt. Zach calling Macey “McHenry” and her distracting the officer on the train. “I take it that’s the man in your life.” Macey disappearing. Liz sticking up for Macey. The girls finding Macey. Just the whole end of that book!
OGSY: Cammie and Zach talking about his jacket. Meeting Townsend even though we kind of hate him. Joe being protective of Cammie. Zach being protective of Cammie. Matt’s handwriting. The journal. Zach being Zach. The Blackthorne adventure. “We’re leaving her with you.” “You’ve got your cover, Gallagher Girl. We’ve got ours,” the catherine reveal. Finding out Zach was okay and that Joe was alive. “When he kissed me, it was hungrier somehow…”
OSOT: Rachel stepping off the chopper like a woman on a mission. Cammie talking to Joe while he’s in the coma. Abby talking to Joe and Rachel taking care of Joe. Cammie kissing Joe’s head and then falling asleep next to him. The towel scene. “We’re not mad because you left. We’re mad because you didn’t take us with you.” Matthew’s hiding spot. “You could have died, Cammie.” Zach and Townsend bonding. “Crazy. I went crazy.” More Cammie and Joe bonding. Joe talking about Matt. “I found it, daddy.” Ugh the feels.
UWS: All of it. Seriously. But! Them saving/kidnapping Preston. Rachel playing nurse to Joe. Zach sleeping in Cam’s bed. “You were gone for so long.” “I’m back now.” “Don’t go again.” Cammie showing Zach her favorite secret passageway that she’s never shown anyone else (the beanbag one). “Leaving can’t be nearly as hard as being left,” Professor Buckingham and the Code Black. The entirety of the cave scene. Grant and Jonas showing up to the rescue. Rachel and Joe running and the whole website thing. Zach frying bacon without a shirt on. In just jeans. Bex “being a spy is in my blood” Baxter. The Townsend reveal. “You had Joe.” The entirety of Cammie finding out about the proposal. “Joe Solomon loved me.” The entirety of Liz’s graduation speech. And the entirety of the epilogues.
“And now we are at the end of our time at school, and the one thing I know for certain is this: A Gallagher Girl is whatever she wants to be. And, most of all, she is my sister.”
