summary : In which a nepotism baby finds herself dealing with her first true life issue, letting him go.

At eleven am Gene was awoke by his phone blaring gold digger. Not his song of choice, a joke from Lennon a few months ago, which he was still trying to figure out how to fix.

"Hi y/n/n?"

He pulled himself to be sitting up against the cushioned headboard when he knew this wasn't going to be a quick call.

The girl's sobs echoed through the mobile, a slured voice soon following.

"Hiya Babes ! I think i've dislocated my jaw."

She let out a hiccup, a thump echoing into his ear at what he expected to be her head giving up holding itself up and smacking against a wall.

"Y/n/n, you wouldn't be able to speak if you dislocated your jaw ? It's literally not even the afternoon yet, how are you drunk."

He'd been out with her enough times to know that when she'd had a few she started feeling her bones hurt or dislocated. Every single time she would complain that she couldn't feel her teeth, and then cry because her jaw felt wrong.

"Correction Gene babes, i'm tipsy, and that's kinda the thing. So, y'know hoe -sorry- how Lennon said I wasn't allowed to get drunk today because we have to go to you dads ?"

She perked up a bit after finding out that she hadn't dislocated her jaw and was infact perfectly put together, well physically, mentally she was a wreck. Her tone varied and dragged out on different words are she though of how to pronounce the next few letters she could see in her mind.

"Yes ?"

He gave a slight sigh. His index and thumb rubbed his temple as he was reminded how childish the pair could be at times.

"Well he was annoying me so i've decided i'm gonna annoy him back."

"Wow y/n/n, you're really mature."

He rolled his eyes at the intoxicated woman, rubbing his hair out of his face as he slouched back under the covers.

"Whatever. Anyway, I then realised that getting drunk alone in my flat is kinda sad as fuck, so can you come over ?"

She was basically begging his at this point and Gene set his mind back to everytime Lennon would get a girlfriend.

Most of his brother's relationships where nothing to write home about, but every once in a while he'd find a girl he really liked. She'd end up meeting the family, which at this point included y/n. She would end up resorting to spending excess amounts of time with Gene in a way to loose the memory of her best friend finding someone he viewed as more important.

Coming to think of it, he was sick of being her last resort.

Her back-up Gallagher brother.

"Gene please."

"I'll be over in twenty, yeah?."

"Thank you Gene, you're always there for me. Love you so much right now."

The connection cut off after they muttered a thousand goodbyes and see you soons and Gene let out an unsteady breath once he was sure she wouldn't be able to hear him.

Lennon wasn't, but he was.

He was sick of being her last resort, but he would never decline being it.

He dragged himself back out from underneath the comforting duvet, sticking one of his feet out first before retreating back under the warmth. Soon enough, he was showered, dressed and on his way in an uber to Y/n's. He stuffed some spare clothes and spray in a backpack since he usually ended up staying too long at her flat. They where going the same place later so they'd probably end up heading there together.

The girl on the apartment's reception gave him a flirtacious smile as he rushed past her to the corridoor where the lifts where situated. He could hear her co-worker giving her shit for it as he moved further away, since the ground floor was so sparce of people.

"He ignores you every time Lucy."

"Shut up."

He kind of felt bad that he never paid her any attention. Most of the time he was too busy getting to y/n to even give her a side glance. He knew how much it hurt being ignored, being ignored by someone he had adored since he was fifthteen.

"Hiya y/n/n !"

He dropped the spare key for her flat back into his pocket, slipping off his trainers and closing the pale door behind him before making his way into the kitchen.

His brows pulled as he looked around to room in confusion, the model being no where to be seen. The confusion was quickly replaced with a small heart attack when half a head popped up over the counter, y/n's sour expression soon following her appearance.

"What's the matter ?"

His voice gave a sympathetic tone as he strolled over to the other side of the kitchen island where he found an empty carten of ice-cream and a multitude of plastic fruit boxes, the contained fruit having been devourered before he arrived.

The alcohol which had started his journey here was on the otherside of the island. Half a dozen empty bottles stood up on the floor with a matt black bottle opener and the metal tops surrounding them.

The girl only replyed with a huff, soon pulling out her phone a dazily opening it to reveal a post of someone.

Gene quickly recognised the girl being Jane. He didn't need an explaination off y/n as to why she was annoyed at Lennon and therefore attempting to drink herself into a stuper, the black leather which drowned the blonde's body was enough for him to sence that his brother had either forgotten that y/n had instagram or forgotten that he had 'borrowed' her coat in December.

Y/n stumbled out of the BMW uber with help from Gene. Her dress rolled up slightly, causing her to pull it back down once she had fixed her bright red Medusa handbag onto her shoulder.

Lennon hadn't awared her of the dresscode for tea. It was at Liam's so it wasn't top class fancy, bit she also didn't want to turn up looking like a slouch who didn't make any effort.

She had spent the early hours of the afternoon forcing Gene to help her stalk Jane's instagram and pinterest whilst they carried on drinking whatever they could find in her cupboards and bedroom. They ended up having to stop by a tesco express on the way to Gene's dad's since they'd ran out of the prosseco she was going to take with her.

"Ever the gentleman babes."

Gene gave her a grin as they started walking up to the house.

"You sure that was a good choice still ?"

He gave an amused laugh as he watched her struggling to walk without the tight red material crawling up her legs.

Her dress had a low neckline and a short skirt. It was paired with a pair over platformed whote doc marten boots and her medusa bag. Small diamonds danced across her neckline and down from her peirced ear lobes, studs peiced into her ear further up. Three earings in her right ear and four in her left.

"No comment."

Her hand smacked his shoulder as they reach the front door, Liam already waiting for them with a pained expression on his features.

"Alright dad ?"

"Imma fuckin' kill that lad."

The pair held in bursts of laughter as they where let into the house, Liam following them after putting out his cig.

Lennon and Jane where already in the livingroom. Molly slouched on the otherside of the room in the chair closest to the wood burner as she glugged down a full glass of wine, desperation flooding her face.

"Oh, we brought these Dad."

Gene handed the two bottles of pink liquid to Liam who gladly took them. He immediatly walked out of the room, muttering about going seeing if Debbie was okay.

It was only a few seconds later that he appeared with the bottles again, popping his head through the small gap left between the door and it's frame.

"What's with the-"

"Oh sorry, got thirsty."

Y/n gave a awkward smile and a sheepish look to the singer who just laughted at her, disappearing out of the room again with a small smile on his lips.

He begged that that girl never changed. Begged she always stayed little y/n/n Taylor.

"I can't believe you're already tipsy y/n/n."

"Mate you should have seen her before."

Gene sat in one of the armchairs, Y/n sat on it's chiffon arm.

Lennon had sent them a text a few minutes before they had showed up to remind the pair that Jane thought they where dating. Y/n had decided that she was, as completely fair payback, going to make this the most miserable night of Lennon's life.

Does anyone else find it pretty unlikely that every single main character in Gallgher girls has perfect vision? Like there's no way they all have 20/20 eyesight. I know its said in the books that Cammie has 20/20 so that rules her out. Here's are my humble thoughts on the thing-

I desperately wish I could remember who it was that I read this headcannon from but alas I don't. So this one isn't mine. Joe needs reading glasses as he gets older. Rachel thinks it's so stinking cute. The kids know better to mess with him so they don't say anything too bad. They secretly know that he's too cool for them to be lame on him.

I'm inclined to say that maybe Townsend and Zach might have to wear contacts or glasses? I could totally see Townsend wearing his glasses at home, reading and drinking tea. Abby secretly loves it but makes fun of him for it. (But secretly he knows that she loves it, so he does it anyway)

Zach probably wears only contacts and Cammie didn't even know he needed glasses till they got married or moved in together. After she found out she BEGGED him to let her see. He finally did. She said it made him look cute and sexy. So he started to wear them more. Than Macey swung by one early morning and saw him in them and bust out laughing. She said that he looked "just like his father". After it was said they all couldn't unsee it. Zach strictly wears them at home. With cammie and no one else.

I feel like maybe Liz? Hear me out. Liz felt shy after grade school to wear them. She was already so smart and got teased for that. She ditched the glasses to get as far way from the cliche as possible. Everyone tells her she looks good in them though. So, eventually she says I'm smart. Deal with it. She wears them as an adult.

The last person to round out our little poor sighted gang is Tina Walters. It's a closely guarded secret though so like maybe don't tell anyone or she drop a fake secret to the national guard and before you know it they're knocking on your door.

A Rebuttal

Ok so I really did not want to make this post. I would’ve loved to have left this whole thing behind because I’m aware I made some mistakes and would like to atone for them, but it seems I’m going to have to go over this one more time. For anyone seeing this post who somehow doesn’t know, I said some regrettable things about Aidan Gallagher here. I later made another post here summarising the entire situation that resulted, so I would suggest you read that first.

I’m still getting people telling me what I said was fucked up, which is entirely justified. However, I have just now realised that the person who took it upon themselves to ‘correct’ me about my opinions of Aidan Gallagher (something that has not changed, I still strongly dislike him) later made several derogatory posts about me. I was not aware of this because after the first rude post they made about me, I blocked them to save myself the additional stress.

I have done my best to deal with this whole thing as calmly and politely as possible. When this person was downright evil towards me, I didn’t bother to argue with them, I just made an admittedly-snarky post with a screenshot of what they said, and then blocked them because I had no desire to begin an argument. When I realised that what I had said about Aidan Gallagher had been fucked up, I apologised, accepted my mistake and did what I could to fix it. But I am out of patience. I don’t take kindly to being treated the way this person has treated me, I don’t think anyone does. So here I am, about to break down everything they said about me bit by bit to show you how much of a lying scumbag they have been towards me (as well as possibly others).

My first interaction with this person was when i got an anon ask who wanted to know what Aidan Gallagher had done to make me dislike him. I responded with a brief list, excluding most of my evidence because it was late at night and I didn’t have the energy to go down the rabbit hole of all this. The following day, the blog this post is about reblogged my post, attempting to disprove everything I said. I will not include screenshots here, because it was a long post, you can find it in my archive if you so wish. I read what they said, took everything into account, and responded with my proof for things I hadn’t previously included the proof for, as well as explanations for why certain things he’s said annoyed/upset me. I expected a polite response, as we had both been courteous so far.

Instead, I received the following:

Now, lets break down some of what they said.

‘stop saying things you can’t prove, because it’s fake’ - I provided my proof. I am not trying to lie to anyone, or perpetuate rumours. All I aimed to do was explain my point of view and why I personally dislike him.

‘some of your screenshots are fake’ - That’s just blatantly untrue, especially as they have at other points said things along the lines of ‘well yes but he apologised/he didn’t mean it like that’ for everything I have provided screenshots for. Make up your mind.

‘you’re so gullible’ - For... having an opinion? That I researched before forming? And which is based on something other than my blind faith in a 17 year old? Right.

This was when I blocked them.

I thought that was going to be the end of the situation. Then, I got some asks.

I saw this and, being a minor, was a little creeped out. I had assumed this person was a teenage fangirl because that’s who the majority of Aidan Gallgher’s fans are so this information was surprising.

This one scared me. I did what the anon suggested, created a backup (i won’t tag it here because I get the feeling some of the aforementioned ‘army’ are going to see this) and reported the other blog. Once again, I thought it was over.

It was at this point that people started telling me how fucked up what I said in my original post was, and I realised they were right. As mentioned at the start of this post, I apologised, and did everything I could to fix it. End of, right?

Until today, where I started thinking about what the above anons had said and decided to fact check, mainly out of curiosity. I unblocked the blog, only to discover they had made 3 posts about me that I hadn’t seen.

This was the first one, as you can see they began it with a screenshot of my original post. Let’s talk about this.

“but you wishing him dead is ok?” - I never wished him dead, to start with. Stabbing does not automatically equal death, but I know that’s nitpicky of me. I also did not wish he was stabbed. I said in that exact tag that I didn’t, because of TUA. However, I know that this ‘joke’ was really shitty of me, and I have already apologised multiple times.

“what kind of a low life do you have to be to have nothing better to do, but talk shit about a kid?” - Why don’t you tell me? As I’ve said multiple times, I am a minor. That doesn’t excuse what I said, but that does make it incredibly hypocritical of them to say that given everything.

This was the second post they made about me, beginning with the same screenshot as in the first post.

“they’re spreading false rumors” - I’ve already covered this one.

“they want a reason to be mean, even if it isn’t true” - I would never be mean to someone if they hadn’t done anything to deserve it. I’m a strong believer in the moral philosophy of respecting everyone until they give you a reason not to. Aidan Gallagher has given me more than enough reasons to lose respect for him. And, honestly? I still respect him as an actor, even if only that.

“you can’t say you’re a decent human being and wish someone dead. you can’t say you’re anti-bullying and want to prevent suicide and then bully someone” - That is some big talk from someone who claimed they were ok with what Aidan Gallagher said about mental health because they’ve had their own experiences with suicide, before immediately telling me to rot and burn in hell for disagreeing with them. And, wait a second, wasn’t Aidan Gallagher the one supporting women’s rights and feminism who then turned around and made gross comments towards a bunch of girls? Hmm. Also, wishing someone dead is too wide of a blanket statement to actually measure whether someone is a decent human being with.

“i tried to be nice” - I didn’t know telling someone to rot in hell, calling them a stupid hoe, was being nice. I didn’t know lying, and telling people to report someone because they disagreed with you was being nice (notice how they never said anything about my stabbing comment until I disagreed with them.) I guess we have very different definitions of nice.

“if they really cared, they would kindly ask a fan if the rumors were true” - And that, ladies gentleman and variations thereupon, is a brilliant example of how not to perform unbiased research! I based my opinion on actual evidence, and neutral articles as well as arguments from both sides. Not on one fan who’s likely to deny everything.

“they said it themselves, they have no proof” - That is so incredibly cherrypicked. What I actually said was “supposedly used the f-slur although i can’t find proof“, one of the many points on my list of reasons I dislike Aidan Gallagher. You know why I said that? Because I found a screenshot of him supposedly having called someone that slur via Instagram but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and decided it was probably edited. I included the point on my list in the hopes of people doing their own research. And I certainly did not say I had no proof for anything, as you would know if you saw my original response to this blog, where I provided proof.

“threatening him and bullying him is wrong” - I am fully admitting of the fact my stabbing comment was in poor taste but it was very clearly not a threat and not even close to being bullying. Furthermore, I would say making four posts harassing and telling others to harass someone because they disagree with you is a lot closer to being bullying than anything I did was.

“defamation is a crime” - I live in the UK, so let’s use those defamation laws. A statement is not defamation unless it ‘ has caused or is likely to cause serious harm to the reputation of the claimant.’ Less than a hundred people are even aware my blog exists. Nowhere near enough people have seen anything I’ve said to count as defamatory. Not to mention that a statement is not defamatory if it is a statement of opinion.

“you’ll get karma for lying and playing the victim” - Ohhh the irony. I have not lied once. I have provided all the necessary proof for everything and I have owned up to my mistakes. And yet, they, who have repeatedly lied about me, twisted my words and oddly enough, avoided including proof outside that one screenshot of my original post, are the one accusing me of playing the victim. Classy.

“hi to your little follower that you cry to” - This one’s just hilarious to me. I’m happy to have people on here who will let me know when people are, you know, harassing and bullying me. And, what the hell do they mean by ‘cry to’? Do they mean ‘mentioned that this situation was stressful once’? Wow.

“I promise you misery for the rest of your sad little life” - Honestly just re-read the other screenshots after seeing they said this. Jesus Christ. And, as someone who already struggles with depression and other mental health issues I’m interested to know what they’re intending to do that’s gonna be any worse.

“you’ll pay! that’s not a threat it’s a promise” - Are they planning on tracking me down? Or are they just going to keep sitting on their throne of yes men and echo chambers acting as if they’re actually affecting me?

I would say this is the last post I plan to make about this situation but I’ve said that over and over again throughout the last 12 days and it’s never the last post. This whole situation has honestly been very emotionally taxing, and combined with some real life things, it’s been a bad week or so. Hopefully this post is enough to end this whole thing.

Living a Feminist Life by Sara Ahmed read by Larissa Gallgher

I listened to this as an audiobook because it is referenced so often in my very favorite podcast Secret Feminist Agenda. Host Hannah McGregor did a wonderful interview the author, Sara Ahmed, in the final episode of season 3. Ahmed grew up in Australia with a white mother and a Pakistani father as one of few POC students in her elementary schools. She is a lesbian, a PhD scholar, a professor, and long-time writer of the Feminist Killjoys blog. Her feminism is queer, intersectional and trans-inclusive. This is a scholarly book but it was a pretty easy listen as the writing itself leans more poetic and then dense. Much of it is about reactions to feminists speaking up in private or public spaces, and how words (such as "killjoy") are used against feminists and how they can be retaken. Ahmed references work she has done in previous books including the themes of willful subjects, sweaty concepts and walls. The middle portion of the book includes interviews with people doing diversity work at universities, followed by reflections on several films. The final portion includes Ahmed's Killjoy Survival Kit and Feminist Manifesto. This was a very thought-provoking text to listen to while I was drawing, but I am also aware than my comprehension is much higher when I read than when I listen, so hopefully I will have time to get a copy of this book in print to underline and highlight.

Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks

A short, sweet, autumn-flavored romance. The whole story takes place over one night, the last night Deja and Josiah are working at Omaha, Nebraska's best pumpkin patch. Instead of sticking to their shift, they decide to have an adventure: taste every treat, see every sight, and just maybe set up a moment for Josiah to talk to the mystery girl he's had a crush on for four years.

Witch Hat Atelier vol 1 by Kamome Shirahama

This is my new favorite manga series! Coco is the daughter of a tailor but she has a passion for magic. She was given a book of spells and a wand as a child, but she knows she'll never be able to use them because witches are born, not made. Or so she believes until she spies on a witch casting a spell and realizes that magic is cast by drawing. She tries her hand at some of the spells in the book, and is amazed to find she can summon light. But her next experiment has a darker outcome: she turns her other and her home to stone. She is taken in by witch who runs a rural atelier, or school, with three apprentices. Her new mentor encourages her passion for magic, but is also protecting her, as he suspects the rogue sorcerer who contacted her as a child will contact her again. As Coco grows, she has to use her new skills to solve a series of increasingly difficult problems. Watching her learn is both joyful and satisfying, and I was extremely impressed by the beauty of the art. Traditional manga aesthetics are mixed with influences of Maxfield Parrish and Little Nemo in Slumberland. I devoured this book and jumped directly into the sequel!

Witch Hat Atelier vol 2 by Kamome Shirahama

This is just as good as book one. I'm excited to see Coco working together with her fellow apprentices on more complex problems. I love how she uses the limited tools at her disposal creatively and successfully. The art is hitting every note perfect for me, and of course the book had to end on a cliff-hanger, arg!

Autonomous by Annalee Newitz

I met the author of this book at SDCC this summer, and they pitched it to me as "Gay robots and drug pirates." I said SOLD, and bought it immediately. What a good decision that was! It's been awhile since I found a sci-fi book which was this smart, wildly inventive and fun to read. Newitz tosses off more ideas and world-defining-details on a single page than some authors do in a whole book. Set in 2144, the planet Earth in this book has been rapidly remade by climate change, re-configured national boarders, AI technology,legal human indenture and the patenting of medicines, drugs and gene therapies. Jack is a loner and a Robin Hood-engineer, trying to get meds into the hands of those too poor to afford them. Eliasz is an agent in the military branch of the International Property Coalition, sent to hunt down and eliminate the source of the illegally-sourced drugs. Paladin is a humanoid AI robot, newly created and partnered with Eliasz on the mission. The plot crosses multiple continents, love and betrayal, memes, laws, and meditations on the nature of freedom. The whole story was a completely delight, but the quote that will be sitting with me for a while is this: “But now we know there has been no one great disaster—only the slow-motion disaster of capitalism converting every living thing and idea into property.”

Get Over It by Mary Shyne

I had the pleasure of reading this comic in progress, and it's so wonderful to see the whole story collected in one compact, two-color volume. The story is packed with actions and emotions. Sixteen-year-old Leslie is a bike-messenger for her father's restaurant in Manhattan. On a delivery to a lab at NYU, she stumbles on a psychology student trapped inside her own research experiment: the manifestation of all of her past traumas in the form of an angry energy monster. Leslie has been able to see these creatures, or miasmas, since birth but usually they can't interact with the physical world. In the lab Leslie find a gauntlet which allows her to fight against the trauma beast, bringing up more questions than answers. What does it mean that Leslie can see these creatures, when no one else can without the aid of technology? What will happen when she accidentally activates the miasma of her anxious, over-baring father? And most importantly, will ANYONE she delivers to today tip??? WTF, people! I know that Mary Shyne is deeply influenced by her love of shonen manga and also her many years as a biker in NYC, both of which show in this beautifully drawn, exciting story.

F*ck Off Squad by Nicole Goux and Dave Baker

This gorgeously drawn comic perfectly captures a kind of aimless Los Angeles young adult summer experience. Three friends argue, skate, spend too much time on instagram, flirt with their exs and eat a lot of burritos. Megan is in a band, and also in love with her straight bandmate, Kate. Jimmy really shouldn't met with her ex, Katie, again but she does. Clark is texting a lot with a girl in Chicago that he met online, but he also goes to some trouble to borrow a car to go on a date with a girl who's still in high school. The story doesn't have a lot of action, or resolution, but sometimes neither does life.

Garbology by Edward Humes

This book was published in 2012, so a few of the facts in it are now out of date. There's been a massive change in China's policy of importing American trash and recycling, and I think the numbers for waste and pollution production overall are now even higher than they were 7 years ago. However, this is a still very readable and informative book. Humes has won multiple Pulitzers for his writing- he's very good at focusing each chapter on a specific person and their relationship with/battle against trash. This includes a worker at Puente Hills, the largest landfill in the US, serving the LA area; the CEO of Waste Management, Inc; two different scientists studying ocean plastic; a Seattle resident helping out with an MIT based study tracking how far trash travels before it reaches a landfill (often hundreds or even thousands of miles); an archaeologist excavating trash to study it; several artists participating in the artist residency program at San Francisco's main trash hub; the founder of ChicoBag, an early reusable bag company; the founder of TerraCycle and more. It is hopeful to read about so many smart people who have been working on and studying trash, recycling and plastics for decades; but discouraging to learn how deeply messed up and unsustainable our systems for waste are. It's a problem beyond the scope of any one person- one that we must ALL begin to take personally before we are all buried under mountains of our own waste.

Debian Perl Digital Detective: The Memory Thief by Lauren Davis, Mel Hilario, Katie Longua, Brittany Currie, and Sean Marney

What a delight this comic is! Debian Perl is a technomancer living in Megalopolis, a rapidly gentrifying city on the west coast of North America. In this future sentient robots have full civil rights, intelligent beings live all across the solar system, and humans come in every color of the rainbow. Debian is just walking home from her favorite bubble tea spot when she hears some loud crashes coming from an arcade. Inside she finds a confused antique robot, a furious shop owner, and a curious teenager who immediately starts filming the unfolding drama on her egg (a levitating smart device). Debian manages to talk the robot out of its panic and determines that its CPU is dangerously overheated. Debian and the teen, Digits, take the robot back to Debian's workshop home. When they look at the robot's motherboard they realize that its memory drive has been stolen, and its hard wear illegally tampered with. Digits is amazed by how Debian can communicate with this ancient tech and asks to learn this secret, magical language. Debian explains that this language is code, and that anyone can become a coder with practice. Together, they follow the clues to solve the mystery of the missing memory- discovering an exciting potential new partnership along the way! Katie Longua's art and Brittany Currie's vivid colors perfectly capture this vibrant, exciting, heartwarming story. Lauren Davis and Mel Hilario have crafted a satisfying middle grade mystery with educational elements woven in so well that readers may leave the story surprised by how much they have learned. I'm very excited for the next installments in this series!
