I play roller derby.
I've seen countless arguments in the community, in which any single person with the jersey number 88 was hung out to dry as a Nazi. When Chinese skaters mentioned 88 as being an important number for them culturally the answer was "doesn't matter. It's white supremacist and antisemitic."
Those same people are now tearing down posters of innocent hostages. And defending rape and sexual assault as tools of the resistance. "They wouldn't have done this if they hadn't been oppressed. If Israel wasn't an apartheid state, the Palestinians wouldn't have to resort to a violent uprising."
Please, tell me all about how the number 88 has no place in derby because antisemitism is bad and in the same breath say that Israelis deserve what they got. Chant your genocidal slogans and tell me that Jews are oppressors, and that perhaps the holocaust was more about people who were *different* and not really about Jews.
Please continue to tell the people who have been the victims of ethnic cleansing for millennia that they are now practicing ethnic cleansing.
Please continue to tell people how #inclusive Roller Derby is. How anyone from any walk of life can be safe and be one of the community here. It'll fit in so well with the rest of your blatant lies.

She always gets distracted by how happy and surprised she is that you came that she’s gotten sacked a few times. Totally worth it though, Harley will just get revenge later.
•Please laugh at her weird jokes that only really make sense to her. She really does try but most people just think she’s crazy and are either terrified or write her off. Yea she’s a bad guy but she needs validation to!
•Harley really appreciates that you don’t mind when she does something weird. You’re totally chill with the weird pets and curb finds she brings home and you never comment on her bruised knuckles or the missing posters she uses for knife throwing practice. Youre the first person to just love her for who she is.
•Harley extends the same courtesy of course. Really there’s nothing you could do or say that would make her not love you. She’ll be at every event in the audience cheering loudly and holding a sparkly sign, she’ll hang ever drawing or poem on the fridge. You’re each other’s biggest fans.

Oh I got em. I got some pride ones just for the occasion. There’s also gonna be a lot of Star Wars references too, lol.
Rodney’s trans (duh) and is bisexual. I’ve seen people headcannon that he’s polya too, so there’s that too.
Lug and Diesel are gay. (duh)
Fender’s pan, and can’t help but simp for Rodney.(“He kinda cute though-“)
Crank has a teeny tiny crush on Rodney cuz he’s like super positive and hard not to like. He’s also ace!
Cappy and Loretta know damn well their bfs are gay for each other and are waiting for one of them to crack.
Bigweld definitely sees Rodney as a son. Big old guy teaching a younger guy his tricks? Definitely getting dad vibes.
Rodney and Ratchet got the Obi Wan and General Nefarious relationship going on.
Relating to my movie plot, Rodney will absolutely use those magnet powers like the fucking force, there is no other way.
Cappy and Piper are BFFs are you cannot convince me otherwise.
Speaking of Piper, she’s always dreamed of being in a roller derby! We can actually see a poster in her room!
Loretta has a cat named Persephone! She hates Rodney for some reason, despite Lorrie’s attempts to make them get along.
Rodney has a god tier impersonation of Obi wan Kenobi for obvious reasons, and it always freaks everyone out. (or would it be Obi wan Kenobot?)
Speaking of which, Rodney’s a pretty convincing actor when he needs to be. Secret theater child, lol.
The Wonderbot is pretty much Rodney’s illegitimate child at this rate. They hang around Cappy’s place since Rodney’s kinda homeless and wants a place that’s closer to Bigweld Industries.
Cappy’s house is incredible, according to Rodney, who’s never been in a rich girls house before. Truth be told, it isn’t too fancy, but it’s definitely a lot better than Aunt Fan’s place.
Cappy was born outside of the city, so she was an outmode. Her folks weren’t the greatest people, so she fled to the city where she ran into Bigweld. She got a job there, and got a “cheap” outfit to fit in better. When Ratchet took over she had to get some actual upgrades or lose everything she worked for. This explains why she has so many different outfits unlike everyone else who only have one.
Speaking of Cappy’s parents, just imagine the most stereotypical southern assholes you can imagine, lol. The “fancy rich kid came from some southern couple out near the Alabama-Florida boarder in a crack shed off the side of the road” trope is a classic to me. (UPDATE: I’m overhauling the story behind Cappy’s parents in a future post as I realized that I can do better with them.)
Rodney and Cappy are immune to horror films, Fender and Lorrie are not.
Crank, Lug, and Diesel are buds. They usually hang out together with Crank being a third wheel.

Raquel Welch was a B-Movie superstar which should have been a contradiction but wasn’t. One of the most beautiful women of her time, she starred in films like the Sci-fi Fantastic Voyage, One Million Years B.C. (The movie’s poster showing her as a scantily-clad cavewoman was more iconic than any of her films) and the Roller-Derby movie, Kansas City Bomber without surrendering an ounce of a dignity that was reinforced by her seeming indifference to it. (As Constance, the queen’s dressmaker and idol of d’Artagnan in Richard Lester’s 1973 version of The Three Musketeers she gave a funny tongue-in-cheek performance as a sexy klutz). She never really tried to win an Oscar or make an acting breakthrough, seemingly content with her reign as not so much a sex symbol than a cheesecake Aphrodite. RIP.

im into a new girl. i mean, not really a new one. i mentioned her in an earlier post
figured out that i’m not really attached to the other girl i talked about. she’s great, but she’s wayyy too much like me. it’s good to have things in common, but when it’s to the point that we both have hallucinated the same shit it’s a little off putting. not that she did or said anything wrong, she’s super sweet and i like being around her, i just don’t think we’d make a good couple.
anyway. new girl. gotta come up with a fitting name eventually because her actual name is almost obnoxious and i love it. we met on my fandom instagram account through a mutual friend putting us in a groupchat together.
she’s an amazing artist and we obviously share interests. and she’s hot. like. fucking stunning. so i was just gonna keep that locked away in my little brain like a normal fucking person until one day she randomly unfollowed me and followed me again. which was weird, because we’ve been mutuals for months, but it put the thought of her stalking me into my head and there’s no prying that shit out. like. what were you looking at huh? nothing to see here. just a bunch of text posts and if you’re willing to dig through the highlights there’s some more personal stuff. and then immediately after that i’m on her close friends?? and she tagged me in the next post she made??? weird.
but that was the catalyst to me going huh. i guess i’ll allow myself a bit of swoonage. i told mickey and she lost her everloving shit man. she goes full conspiracy mode because “stevie, that’s what I DO when i like someone she’s into you :)))” kid. sweetheart. i hope you know that you’re the statistical outlier in every situation and i won’t assume that anyone else does that.
so a couple days ago new girl posts about how she wishes she had a girlfriend for valentine’s day. that she’s so hot and interesting and it’s absolutely unbelievable that no one is taking an interest in her and let me just say, i gotta agree. of course, she’s wrong, IM taking an interest, but i’m not gonna be weird about it. i take some screenshots and scratch out her username and send them to mickey. she. goes. fucking. FERAL. “STEVIE ITS MEANT TO BE LOOK AT THE ROCKY HORROR POSTER IN THE BACKGROUND” kid i’m gonna rock your shit if you keep feeding into this and make me all mushy and useless again.
of course, she went to revisit the screenshots and yelled at me for scratching out the username. because i know she’s a meddling bastard who will insert herself. she spends a solid two hours vetting everyone i’m following and can’t find her because the girl is on my other account. absolutely rabid dedication. fuckin adore this kid man. my stalking skills are superior and i’ve already scoped out her pinterest and it made my chest hurt because damn. she’s so. sigh.
this story is kinda nonlinear at this point. shit kept going down for me because the girl live-streamed a few days in a row and i’d join a reasonable amount of time after she started (like. 30 seconds) and just dwell in the chat while like three other people maximum were there. she would end the lives sometimes if no one would join and talk to her on cam but she always went on right when my parents would get home so i couldn’t join. she’s so charming. let me just. list some shit
we already got some stuff in here so. does art, same fandoms, likes rocky horror, feminine, all that shit. she also does roller derby, archery, carpentry (she has this dollhouse in her room that she built herself it’s SO FUCKING RAD), boxing, sailing, cheerleading, all sorts. she likes literature and fashion and apparently grew up in a cult? she kept dropping absolutely insane lore. “oh yeah i got a knife pulled on me at school for being gay haha” and the way she talks she’s so charismatic i hope i die. she’s so enthusiastic about her interests like “i was looking at a boat today that can get up to ELEVEN KNOTS” cool im obsessed with you
she’s so my type i’m gonna rip my skin off and give it to her. she’s feminine, she’s bubbly, she’s fucking weird, kind of a bitch, has strong (correct) opinions, that’s like everything im drawn to romantically. personality big enough to keep me balanced out, knows what she wants so i can enjoy my acts of service love language, LITERALLY MY TYPE.
im so fucking mad. she lives in toronto and i have absolutely no chance regardless. im just a little terrified of her, especially dming her. when i can see her face in the lives it’s wayyy easier but i’m so intimidated by her typing style yk? fucking whatever man i’m being dramatic.
it’s three in the morning so it’s technically february 8th. one year since the initial breakup.

Judges' Remarks: At over five minutes, this is rather too long, but there were a lot of great scenes in here that really got across the spirit of the book, and all the performances were full of verve and fun! Although I wish that actual roller skates (or roller blades) had been used at some point in a movie that's supposed to be about roller derby, the helmets did help to make it look more authentic, and I enjoyed the rambunctious energy of the actual derby scenes. I also particularly liked the hair-dying scene, which was accomplished by clever wig-switching, and the exasperated way Astrid's mom shouted out "ASTRID!!!" when she finds out. The homemade signs and posters to cheer on Zoe were a good touch, and I liked the way the movie portrayed the ups and downs of Astrid's relationship with both Zoe and her old friend Nicole. Sometimes a little chaotic, but always entertaining, this movie did a good job highlighting the basic plot points of the book.
