WC: SUPERMAN'S PAL JIMMY OLSEN #56
WC: SUPERMAN’S PAL JIMMY OLSEN #56
I remember this issue of SUPERMAN’S PAL JIMMY OLSEN as being pretty good, even though it’s been likely decades since I last read it. It headlined another Imaginary Story, editor Mort Weisinger’s way of allowing his writers to work outside of the confines of the tight continuity that he’d established across all of the Superman titles. Imaginary Stories allowed for characters to marry, die,…

Not very good but at least I tried! Maybe I should give him glasses next time. Btw. This is #RobertBernstein one of my Ocs. I made him in 2014 or 2013 I can't remember but he's been around for some time. He is basically the lovechild of Richard Ashcroft and Bill Cipher.

Journey Into Mystery #92
Writers - Stan Lee & Robert Bernstein
Art - Joe Sinnott
Cover - Jack Kirby & Dick Ayers
Loki uses his sorcerous powers to redirect Thor's hammer to Asgard and free him from his imprisonment. But now that Thor has been lured to Asgard in search of the hammer, Loki has the advantage and can destroy Thor once and for all!
The story here is kind of fun, but the most important thing about this issue is that rules and perspectives start to change here for Thor. More and more we're lead to believe that Thor is the true persona and Don Blake is the alternate identity. Thor makes this reference himself early in the issue, turning the traditional secret identity trope a bit on it's head. Also we see that the "60 second rule" of Thor reverting to Don Blake without his hammer is nullified if he's in Asgard, further illustrating that Thor is the true persona.
This issue also features Thor's original movie appearance. It may not be produced by Kevin Feige, but Thor stars in (and helps shoot!) a movie in which he stars and provides the special effects! All proceeds are donated to charity of course, but it's really fun to see Thor zipping around with a movie camera, manipulating the environment with wind and storms, and narrating the plot of the movie. Kind of priceless stuff, honestly!
Sinnott draws Loki very sinister and undoubtedly evil. I really love the hawkish nose, the narrow eyes, and the grimace that he seems to constantly wear. He's just outright nasty and there's no mistaking it.
Overall, a pretty fun read. Although for some reason it has more of a silver age DC feel to me. Probably the fact that Thor creates several cut-rate hammers along the way and it's giving me vibes of Batman's multicolor costumes. I got a genuine laugh out of the idea of Thor throwing three jewel thieves across town with his hammer taped to a surgical table.

Just some silly fun! I'm gonna go 4 stars on this one for the advances in the mythology and the belly laugh!
