I feel you
Warnings: angst, language, Musa is struggling, caring!Riven
Summary: Riven is there for her when Musa gets her magic back.
Words: 1.6k
Pairing: Riven x Musa
A/N: So I just finished the finale of season 2. Overall I loved the Rivusa content, but this moment was a wasted opportunity. Riven was literally standing next to her when she got her magic back and he knows how hard it’s been for her. So let’s pretend this happened (they just didn’t show it ;) )

She feels it the moment it happens. As her magic returns a power curses through her, enlightening her whole body. Musa knows without a doubt her eyes are shimmering in a deep purple as she gazes at the others around her.
“They did it”, she says, a smile settling on her lips. Beside her Riven stops fighting and she sees the other Specialists lowering their weapons as well.
But just a second later her smile fades as the noises return to her. It hits her like a wave, powerful und unforgiving, crashing over her and pulling her under.
Distant screams growing louder, mixing with sobs and cries of pain and regret. She can feel every bit of it, every emotion ranging from shock to fear, from anger to sorrow.
“Hey!”
Her eyes are opened wide as she tries to find herself in the midst of the chaos, her own feelings that can pull her back to reality and ground her. But it’s hard, almost impossible with so many people with strong emotions surrounding her.
“Musa!”
She hears her name being called and someone moves into her field of vision. At first the figure is burry, but as the person grabs her shoulders she has something to tap into. Something that brings her enough clarity to make out his face.
It’s Riven, his brows drawn together in a deep frown as he stares at her. She knows his emotions are there somewhere too, but she can’t make them out in the swirl of it all.
“Look at me!”, he tells her and she does, stares at him like he is everything she can see. And he is.
A whimper escapes her and she leans forward, feeling like she is breaking under the weight of her own abilities. A gift, as people like to tell her. They don’t know anything.
But she knows better.
It’s a curse.
“Focus on me, okay?”
His voice sounds oddly drowned out, although he is standing right in front of her holding her by her shoulders.
She blinks, tries to do what he tells her to, but she can’t find him in all the feelings that are blending into a haze.
This is why she had given up her magic so voluntary. So she didn’t have to feel so much pain again. But now it’s back, much stronger than she could have anticipated.
“I can’t!” She shakes her head, helplessly. “I can’t find you.” They have won. The fight is over. But instead of relief all she can think of is pain, so much pain, a silent torture no one else can feel.
“Make it go away”, she whispers and she feels Riven’s grip tighten around her shoulders. His face is only inches away from her as he speaks to her.
She doesn’t know if it is his nearness, his words or that they have built a strange friendship over the past days, but somehow Riven breaks through the fog that is her mind.
“Yes, you can. Focus on me”, he repeats, speaking slowly and forcefully to make sure she is hearing every word.
And suddenly she knows where he is. He isn’t her light in the darkness or her calm in the storm. But he keeps his emotions at bay and his pain is overshadowed by something else. Concern. Relief. Hope.
He believes in her.
She knows he must be making an effort to bring out positive emotions so she can hold onto them, focus on anything other than the pain surrounding her, but as he stares at her he doesn’t seem bothered by it or strained.
“Come one”, he mutters and she notices the deep crease on his forehead as she stares at her, his eyes flickering over her face.
His pain is a reflection of her own pain, his sorrow a result of her suffering. Because he cares. About her.
The thought startles her enough to blend out the rest as her mind tries to wrap around that newfound truth.
When she had talked to Riven months ago, he had been furious when she had used her powers to get into his head. But now he is opening himself up to her. He is letting her in, so she has something to bring her back, something that grounds her.
It is so much more than she could have asked for, yet it is impossible for her to form words as it takes all her effort not to collapse under the sudden weight on her shoulders.
“I feel you”, she whispers and he lets out a breath, nodding slowly. “Okay, good.”
But he doesn’t let her go yet and she is surprised by how much she doesn’t want him to. “Let’s get the hell out of here.”
She lets him guide her away, his arm wrapped around her shoulder as he manoeuvres her through the crowd of people. A part of her wants to stop him and tell him that she can’t leave yet. Her friends are still out here somewhere, and she doesn’t know if they are okay.
Bloom and Aisha, Stella and Tara. And Flora, who has been willing to sacrifice herself.
She needs to know if they were okay. But she is too weak to argue and too scared to let go of Riven to try and find them.
“They are okay.”
She tilts her head to look at him, his knowing eyes already on her face. “You don’t know that.” Her voice sounds low and shaky, nothing like the strong and capable woman she felt like when she joined Riven and the other Specialists outside to fight along them.
She knows Riven notices, but he doesn’t say anything as he leads her back to the school.
“If they are half as stubborn as you, they won’t let Sebastian and his bastards kill them.”
She snorts at his words, not trying to argue with him. It would just prove his point and she knows he is right; she is stubborn. Strong-willed, like her mother used to call it.
“See? I’m not lying.” Riven pushes a door open for her before pointing his finger towards his head. “I know how it works.” The gesture along with his cocky grin makes her smile and she can feel the color leaving her eyes as they turn back to her natural brown.
They are nearing her room now and with every step between them and the remaining fairies and fighters outside she feels the burden grow a little lighter.
“Tomorrow everyone will handle all of this shit better”, Riven tells her as if he read her thoughts. His arm falls back to his side as they come to a stop in front of her door, and she feels like he has taken some of her warmth with it.
“You will manage.”
He says it in a casual way and with so much conviction that she wants to believe him. But right now it all seems too much and she adverts her eyes. He knows she would give up her magic if she could. He had seen her take the chance. He knows what no one else does.
But her secret is safe with him. She trusts that without a doubt. And she doesn’t need to tap into his head to know it.
“Thanks for, you know, bringing me here.” There is so much more she wants to say to him, that she wants him to know, but it’s too much to put into words. And she is tired now that the fight is over and the adrenaline is wearing off. Exhausted that her mind isn’t her own anymore, that her feelings are always accompanied by someone else’s.
Riven shrugs like it isn’t a big deal, but a part of her wonders if he doesn’t want to be with his Specialist pals. Celebrating their win instead of spending time in the presence of her low mood and energy.
But he is here, isn’t he?
“Sparring tomorrow?”, he asks and her eyes light up at his words, a little warmth returning to her. She tries not to sound too eager as she agrees and he nods at her once before turning to leave.
“Oh and Musa?” She has nearly slipped into the room when she hears his voice again and she turns back, surprised and curious what he is about to say.
For a moment he just looks at her, his expression unreadable. But she resists the temptation to glance into his mind.
“You did good today.”
His words hang in the air between them for a moment and she gulps, wishing she could see what he does when he looks at her the way he does now. Like he can see right through the walls she has built around herself.
And strangely it doesn’t feel threatening or terrifying. Instead it is reassuring to know that there is someone who really sees her.
“Now get some rest.”
It sounds a little like a command, but his voice is gentle and his eyes are soft as he looks at her in an almost affective way.
When he turns and walks away Musa lets herself stare after him, hoping he doesn’t feel her eyes boring into his back. Then he disappears behind a corner and she is left alone.
“Good night”, she whispers even though she knows he cannot hear her anymore.
And when she quietly shuts the door behind her, she allows herself to sink against it and close her eyes for a moment.
In the past days she has given up her magic only to regain it, nearly died but lived, and along the way she had found someone who made her heart beat faster and helped her shoulder the weight of the world.
Someone she had never expected to become such an important part of her life in such a short amount of time.
But she didn’t regret any of it.
And if she was going to face her magic again, she knew she wouldn’t be alone.

Be careful of what you leave behind.
Pairing: Rivusa (Riven/Musa)
Word count: 3.8k
Summary: When a recon mission goes wrong, Riven and Musa deal with the consequences of getting caught.
A/N: at this point I just want to get this over with. It was meant to be short and somehow just turned into this whole thing. Share some love if you like it, if you don’t oh well… it’ll eventually disappear from the tags, don’t fret about it. Side note, yes I took too long since I first talked about this, the first half was beta read but since I changed some things, I don’t know if I can say that anymore so if there’s misspelling or there’s a weird word… sorry, English isn’t my first language.
Warnings: angst, mentions of torture, electrocution, self doubt, mental manipulation basically full angst. Could be triggering so you’ve been warned, read at your own risk.
Riven wakes up startled, vision blurry until a white ceiling comes into sight. He tries to sit up, only to find out he’s lying in a hospital bed, bandages around his torso, head pounding. Sky is quickly by his side, trying to hold him down.
“Whoa, mate, take it easy will ya? You really shouldn’t move this much, you just woke up and your stitches aren’t fully healed yet.”
“What… what happened? How…?” He tries to recall how he ended up in this situation. The effort makes his head ache, pictures a blurry mess in his mind until something stands out, making him pale instantly.
“Where is she?” Riven turns to look frantically at Sky, who just looks away from him, trying to hide his somber face. “Where is Musa, Sky?” Riven insists, voice merely a whisper.
Facing down and taking a breath, Sky tries to compose himself, failing miserably since his back only tenses. If he can feel this, so can Riven. He’s not going to like the answer and will, for sure, go ballistic about it but he tries to placate him anyways. Looking at him again he responds, “She… she’s not here Riv.” It’s vague. Sue him.
“Well I can fucking see that with my own eyes, I mean, where is she? Which room is she in?” This abysmal feeling that something is wrong invades him and he can’t shake it off. You’re just paranoid, she’s fine. She has to be, he tells himself as he starts to feel short of breath.
Sky sighs and rubs his face, trying to organize his thoughts. This wasn’t getting any easier, feeling at a loss of words, he decides to help his friend remember all of it. “What’s the last thing you remember?"
Riven tries, but while doing so the headache just gets worse. “We… we were on a mission, trying to get some clues about Rosalind's whereabouts in… one of the abandoned lairs you guys found… What does this… Where is Musa?! Just fucking tell me, man!”
“Just keep going.”
He struggles to make sense of the images flashing through his mind. He keeps trying anyway.
He remembers them talking, mostly him complaining about how they always get the lamest of missions.
“You keep saying that, yet something tells me you’d rather do the recon instead of the heavy lifting, Riv.” She was walking ahead of him through the tunnels, their destination just one door away.
He knew she had a knowing smirk, she was ready to return the punches he threw and he would enjoy every single comeback, to rile her up, even if it was just a little bit. He was about to reply when she turned to look at him but gone was the playfulness in her face as he saw her eyes turn violet and her stance tensing, making him stop. The both of them got ready to fight.
“We were about to enter the war room they had, bu-but she… she sensed someone. We thought they were some stragglers, but suddenly the door burst open and… and we were surrounded... and then…” The throbbing pain in his head forced him to close his eyes, pinching his frown, trying to ease the pain away while he kept going.
The mission was supposed to be simple, he kept repeating to himself. No one was supposed to be there, the place had been abandoned for at least two weeks since Sky and Bloom found it. Now here they were, surrounded by three men who burst through the door while two more who appeared from behind.
He rapidly drew his twin swords out, facing the door while Musa drew her sword and covered his back, she always had his back. He assessed the situation, trying to end this as fast as they could. As if things weren’t going south already, calm and cold blue eyes that met his, recognition downing on him. Riven felt an ice bucket was being dumped over him. Rosalind.
As soon as she entered the tunnel, the blue eyes turned pale white while looking directly at him as she used her magic against him. Riven felt his lungs run out of air, as if someone’s hands were wrapping around his neck, making it impossible to inhale. Rosalind was all business it seemed. He dropped his twin swords, and moved his hands to his throat, trying to pry those invisible hands off to gain a little breath back. Suddenly, he felt a warm touch on his shoulder, seconds later air started to come into his nostrils.
Musa was fighting Rosalind out of his mind, he could feel the tendrils of their power, battling for control. Whereas Rosalind’s was ice cold and relentless, Musa’s was warm and familiar. It reminded him of the last rays of sunlight that usually fell upon them when training extended more than it should.
When he finally got to catch his breath, he could hardly hear a thing, black dots barely letting him see anything. But the more air he inhaled the better his vision got, enough to catch the movement of one of Rosalind’s goons aiming his sword at Musa. Before he knew it, he shoved her out of the way, receiving the blow directed at her. Blood started pouring out of his middle with a gurgling sound as the sword exited his body. With trembling legs, he fell to his knees.
Riven could barely hear Musa’s screams, muffled sounds echoed in his ears. Entering his line of vision, all he could make out were tearful brown eyes, not knowing if they should look into his eyes or the bleeding wound on his abdomen. Warm hands found their way onto his cheeks, trying to make him focus on her. She sounded so far away, even if she was as close as she could get. Her forehead rested against his and he tried with all his might to ground himself with the feeling of her shallow breaths that made their way across his face, eyes closed as if he could feel her better this way.
He could only think of the unspoken feelings he would never get to tell her. How he looked forward to their moments together when training, how he could feel at peace with himself whenever she was near, whenever she teased him. He wanted to tell her how proud he was with both her fairy powers and specialist training, how inspiring it was seeing her achieving her goals and move past her fears.
A sudden chill replaced the warmth that came with her hands as he felt them let go of his face. Opening his eyes, the last thing he saw through black dots was Musa’s thrashing figure as someone pulled her away, dragging her across the floor. Fear took over him as the only thing he could do was watch, unable to move from the floor to help her, cursing as he stretched his hands after Musa, trying to reach her as they took her away.
Away from him.
——
“You were alone.”
“What do you mean?”
“You were the only one there, Riv,” Sky sighs. “You were on the ground, bleeding out and barely conscious when we arrived. You were alone. No trace of Rosalind or Musa. We checked the place, multiple times but they were nowhere to be found.”
Riven feels his heart stop, this could not be happening. “Then we need to get out there and find her!” He sounds desperate but he can’t help it, not when it comes to Musa. “I don’t know what Rosalind would want with her… but it can’t be anything good, Sky… Not for us and definitely not good for Musa!” His hands are sweating, heart pounding.
“We’ve been trying for two weeks!” Sky shouts, trying to get Riven to see reason. It works, since that makes him halt for a second.
“No. No way.”
“You’ve been out for two weeks. The girls went out as soon as they heard what happened, but they were only able to find this” Sky hands Riven the device they were given before heading to the lair. He takes it with shaky hands. “That’s how we were able to find you. She must’ve dropped it at some point. If she still had this we could’ve… the girls haven’t found anything else on Rosalind nor Musa. The trace is cold now, if there was a chance of finding them… it’s gone now.”
____
Muffled screams echo in the room, through a little window near the ceiling, a dim light barely illuminates the thick yellow-ish walls, dust floating all around raised by the footsteps that keep stalking her. Electricity runs through her body once again and she bites her lips hard enough to draw blood as she tries and fails to keep from making a sound.
"You keep resisting, yet you know it's only going to hurt more. How long until you break, I wonder" the mocking tone fell easily from the auburn haired girl, not an ounce of sympathy shared towards the mind fairy lying on the ground, convulsing nonstop. Her hair was a tangled mess, cheeks swollen due to the bruises covering her face and her clothes tarnished and ragged. Yet a defiant look never leaves her face.
"And I wonder, what's it like b— being Rosalind's little bitch? S— sure sounds like a dream job, are you even allowed to think for yo-yourself or is that the only thing she d— does for you?" She tries hard not to stutter but the continuous electroshocks makes it impossible not to.
"Laugh all you want, I'm not the one pathetically fighting for my life. You should give in while the offer still stands"
"Aren’t you?" she murmurs, deciding to ignore the last words, which earns her another shock. Annoyed by the lack of cooperation, Beatrix leaves the room, locking it after her.
Musa relaxes after being left alone. She closes her eyes and tries to get herself to calm down as much as she can, willing herself to stop trembling. She doesn’t know how much time has passed since she got here. Since… The mission failed. She tries not to think about it, but her mind still takes her to that moment where she’s pushed aside. When HE takes her place instead. Her eyes begin to cloud with unshed tears.
She doesn’t know when he became this important piece of her life, when his presence calmed her down in a way no one ever could. How he was there whenever something, good or bad, happened. He was always there. Sarcastic remarks and everything. She feels her cheeks wet as she remembers him. Lying on the floor. Unmoving.
They should’ve been more careful.
As Rosalind’s goons started to get out of the door, Musa reached for the bottom at the back of her belt to call reinforcements. She believed in their abilities, but she called them just in case.
She took care of the thugs that came from the tunnel as they approached her, slowly, trying to seize her movements. When they took another step, adrenaline flowed through her body and urged Musa to use her powers to send a sense of vertigo to the one on the left and struck the one on the right with her sword, moving as fast as she could, aiming for the back of his legs trying to get him off his balance. Timing was key, with a steady breath she finally struck the back of his knee, quickly threw her leg and kicked him in the head, knocking him out.
Unfortunately for her, the other one regained his senses and pushed her backwards, her back crushed against the wall as air left her lungs. Thanks to her training with Riven and the specialist classes she was able to attend, she escaped his hold and easily dodged the punch aimed at her head, she took a defensive stance while she assessed her opponent a couple of steps away from him. After watching his movements with calculating eyes, Musa lunged to his right as it was left unprotected after his lunges, her sword met his flesh, leaving him unable to keep fighting.
Musa turned around when she heard a metallic sound clattering on the floor, just in time to see how Riven fell to his knees while reaching for his throat. Rosalind standing at the entrance of the door. Without thinking, Musa’s eyes turned purple, her hand reached his shoulder, trying to comfort him. She was there with him.
When she finally expelled Rosalind from his mind, she was exhausted and disoriented, not used to fighting this long or this hard. Before she could even feel relief, she was pushed to the side, a feeling of pain made her turn her head, terrified of the sight that met her.
“RIVEN!” She screamed at the top of her lungs. Musa reached for him, hands shaking as they touched his face “Riven, look at me, stay with me!” She put pressure on the wound, trying to stop the bleeding but it was no use, and red liquid kept coming out. “Don’t you fucking dare leave me like this” she kept begging with a shaky voice, forehead against his as her eyes never left his. “Please…”
On the back of the room Rosalind was leaning against the wall, face in awe with the latest occurrence. Musa had the potential to be one of the strongest mind fairies, like herself, she just didn’t have the attitude, at least she dindn’t when she was headmistress at Alfea, but now… the tables had turned and she wasn’t one to turn down opportunities like this. One of her followers asked what to do with them. “She comes with us” eyes fixed on Musa.
“And the boy?”
“Leave him, he doesn’t have much time now”
____
After that, Musa was dragged away from a bleeding Riven, and when she kept struggling with all her might, she was knocked out. The thought of leaving him crushes her heart, like she left a huge part of hers on the cold ground, even though it wasn’t her choice.
When she first woke up she felt defeated, empty, numb and the worst of it was that the people who came through the door never left her alone. At first they pried for information on Alfea, schedules, number of guards offered by the queen, upcoming plans, who left, who was still fighting, etc. Later on, when she refused to collaborate the punishment started.
It was bearable at first, some days Beatrix came and gave her little shocks every now and then, other times some random guy threw some punches when she was feeling too cheeky, whatever that meant, but as the days went on, it just got worse. When the lack of results became prominent, Rosalind got more involved in the torture team. Her visits consisted in prodding and invading her every thought, her every memory. Making Musa relive the worst moments of her life, recreating scenarios where happy moments turned sour and glum.
Private moments with her mother, like when they used to sing in the car or how her mother looked at her with nothing but pride after a recital, they all took a darker tone when those looks and smiles that held nothing but love suddenly became distant, cold, as if Musa was the worst mistake her mother ever made. Sometimes her mom blamed her for being the reason her father left them. Her mind was like a glass of water which Rosalind kept filling with poison, turning her crystal clear mind into a turbid, dangerous turmoil, so close to overflowing, to the point of expreading said poison to every corner of her mind.
Despair was the only feeling left when one day she couldn’t remember her mother’s smile and affectionate look.
The same mental torture day after day with no rest whatsoever left her exhausted, thoughts were foggy, and her efforts to stay sane became harder. The few things that kept her sane were slowly dissipating. Since there was no rest for the wicked, when the fairies seemed to be done, the brawn made an appearance, and this time, the intensity of the hits directed at her knocked her out for the night. Every night.
When Rosalind got tired of her resistance, Beatrix replaced the older mind fairy, using her powers to get Musa to talk, or even get her to join forces. When that didn’t work, the air fairy recurred to verbal abuse, degrading her, making her feel alone, worthless and left behind.
Because why would she still be there if her friends were looking for her?
No, you can't give in, Musa, that's Beatrix talking.
Somewhere along the line, her thoughts started to turn against her, something that Rosalind didn’t let slide and kept using on her. Her favorite memory to mess with was the last image she had of Riven. One where he stands up, only to tell her it was all her fault, eyes cold and resentful, blaming Musa for how things turned out, how her powers were useless just like her specialist training. Just like her.
Those days she felt like giving up.
Musa hears someone coming to the room, so she rushes to dry her tears. She refuses to look back at the door, eyes still fixed on the ceiling. At this point she couldn’t care less.
"I much rather you had joined us, Musa.” wisps of disappointment and urgency meet Musa, leaving her unnerved, Rosalind’s tone indicating finality, as if she was in a hurry. “So much talent, it's a shame all of it is wasted on a misdirected sense of loyalty towards people who don't deserve it. People who don’t care"
Musa sets her eyes on Rosalind as she keeps walking towards her, Beatrix a few steps behind. Something 's wrong.
"Pity you kept resisting me. Bea, you know what to do."
All of a sudden a thousand volts run through her body, knocking all the air out of her, hands shaking while trying to find something to ground her. Lips drawing blood as she bites them, not giving them the satisfaction of showing her pain. When she thinks it’s over, more lightning hits her, more powerful than before, making her arch her back, eyes rolling back. Meanwhile, Rosalind takes advantage of her predicament by entering her mind, twisting and turning everything upside down, leaving a chaotic mess in her wake.
A piercing cry leaves Musa’s lips. Everything was too much as they keep repeating their ministrations, her mind a whirlwind of images and feelings she can’t put in order, flashes of her girls messing around at the living room of the suite, changes and portrays them enclosing her, mean stares in their eyes as they view her in disgust because of what she is. Or rather what her powers are. The amused stares Riven and Musa shared whenever Silva turned his back after reprimanding them for being too playful while training, turn into a resentful gaze directed at her. A whisper thrown her way as he tells her how she doesn’t belong there.
No matter how much she tries, she is unable to make a rational thought. The mental attack along with the lightning running through her body throws her over the edge.
She feels something inside her break. Her last thought being jade eyes and a smirk the sun-kissed brown haired boy throws her way, bidding the last tendrils of her mind farewell.
When the attack stops, Musa is left barely breathing on the floor, back hitting the floor as tears run through her face. Brown eyes dull as a catatonic look stares into space.
Beatrix and Rosalind leave the room, not minding what remains of Musa.
______
When they finally find Rosalind’s lair. It was fully empty this time. No one left behind to surprise them again in a sneak attack. For that Riven sights in relief, not having time to dwell on meaningless fights. He has to find Musa, as fast as he can, no matter what. Determination keeping his body moving forwards.
Sky and Stella had to slow him down sometimes in order to check for possible traps being left there, as he keeps opening the doors without a care. Recklessness written all over his face.
As Riven opens a door and checks the inside of the room looking for Musa he does a double take as he is making his exit. An extended bare hand on the ground catches his attention back to the room. When he approaches the figure laying on the ground a shiver runs through his body as cold spreads in every corner of his skin. He feels his world fall into despair the same way it did when he found out Musa didn’t make it back to Alfea.
“Fuck, Musa!” A broken sob escapes him at the sight of her, laying on the floor, while he rushes to her side. He kneels down while taking Musa into his trembling arms, tears clouding his eyes as he looks for a pulse. “Thank fucking god” He sighs, shaking in relief as he miraculously finds a faint one, but the relief is short-lived when he actually takes a good look at the state she’s in.
Her cheeks are humid from the tears that once fell from her not too long ago, the few visible skin she displays through her ragged clothes shows the weeks of torment she had to endure as purple and yellow bruises replaced her olive complexion, her split lips showed the smallest of crimson liquid flowing down her chin, but the heartache really sets in when he tries to reach the once vivid and playful brown orbs which are now devoid of life, completely absent as he tries to meet her.
“Muse” he trembles while caressing her cheek with one hand, the other resting at the back of her head “I’m here, it’s okay, it’s gonna be okay, alright?” He chokes, heavy tears falling from his face while rocking her back and forth as he brings her closer to him until his lips rest on the top of her hair, kissing it lightly, wishing to fix the cracks of her broken mind. “Don’t go, please, please come back to me. Who’s gonna put through my bullshit if you’re not there to put me in my place?.”
Riven keeps pleading to whomever could hear for her to be back to herself, and that’s how Stella and Sky find him, holding on to Musa for dear life while crying his eyes out. The sight of their friends laying on the ground would be engraved into their minds for days to come, as the feel of utter helplessness creeps into their bodies, making them unable to move due to the somber picture before them.

riven + musa + hanahaki
Musa hadn’t taken him seriously. She thought Riven had been joking when he said those words to her earlier - those same words he’d called weak, fleeting, and selfish time and time again - so she laughed it off.
Maybe if Musa had taken him seriously, maybe if she hadn’t laughed, he would’ve made it to class, would’ve been in his spot next to her. Maybe he would’ve been whispering his thoughts into her ear, writing obscenities in her notebook, pressing his thigh to hers, pushing her bangs back so he could see her better.
Maybe, if Musa had taken him seriously, he wouldn’t have been found on the training grounds laying in a gruesome garden of blood-painted lily and asphodel petals. She might not have had to see him be carried away from her, and the distant murmurs of love and flowers and diseases might not have tasted so much like regret.

have anyone considered that Rivusa training/fighting also means... Rivusa hurt/comfort 🤧
ANONNNN
why do you put these ideas in my head
Riven getting stabbed during training and hiding it bc it was a stupid mistake but he’s not stupid, his opponent just got lucky. He’s gritting his teeth and fighting back harder to hide it to the point of lashing out. Everyone else just thinks he's being Riven but only Musa realizes he's overcompensating for something. Grabbing him by the arm, pulling him aside, asking him what's wrong, Riven bracing himself and refusing to yield until she is the one to grab his hand and take it away from where he’s clutching his side and shows the wound. He’s s stiff and guarded and waiting for her to laugh at him for his mistake but of course she doesn’t--not until he’s in the infirmary and she throws away his old bandage and says “by the way, about hiding your injuries... Silva wants to know if you got the point yet. 😌”
Musa getting her hand cut and even though the bleeding doesn't stop she refuses to quit, she's not going to be waylaid by a little pain, yeah she’s dripping blood on the platform and starts losing her grip on her staff because it’s slick when wet but she can’t fucking admit defeat. When her opponent tries to stop she just yells at them to keep going until Riven’s up there with her, reminding her she’s not weak for getting cut but she’s going to be if she keeps trying to bull through her flaws instead of address them and improve them, he wraps his hand around hers and when she winces as he brushes over the cut he pulls her close and says he knows some herbs that will help.
and of COURSE the only person they trust with their weaknesses? each other. I need Musa being the only one to find Riven's softness and Riven being an exasperated little shit about patching her up, but every little tease is laced with concern. "I keep telling you to watch your right side, Pixie. Haven't I taught you anything?" and "I’m not just a pretty face, I know how to stitch you up, too.”
Or or or or or
Riven/Musa fighting and he deals the killing blow, and the gravity and agony of it is what finally knocks him out of mind control and he realizes what he's done.

tagged by the lovely @crepuscularqueens sorry I always take sooo long to get these done, lol
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
144
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
527,412
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Mostly Roswell New Mexico! Though I dabble in The Vampire Diaries and accept prompts for Lockwood and Co, Fate the Winx Saga, Riverdale and Hadestown
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Something to Celebrate- a short little Chenford dancing scene
Can I lead You Astray?- a rivusa get together fic
Wanna See What’s Under That Attitude- Hallmark Christmas movie fake dating Valevans, which is only so highly rated because I wrote it at fandoms peak interest in the pairing
Swing Life Away- rnm all human au, this was and still is my passion project
Like the Sky- a short missing scene from Lockwood and Co, and an exploration of Lucy’s feelings for Lockwood and Norrie
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes! I wrote for the community so it’s really cool to discuss the characters
The only exceptions are rude comments get to sit- unless I think it’s a misunderstanding than I’ll respond with a simple redirect and thank you
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Angst is NOT my thing, but probably do you remember? which just has Michael fall asleep before Max can ask about Alex, so it ends in their still fractured pre-show relationship
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
All my fic has happy endings pretty much! But the one that probably felt the most joyful to me personally ours which was my first foray into malexa and just ends with the sweetest big group moment
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Nope! Not since I moved into the rnm fandom, barring like one comment on a Forrest fic all I’ve ever gotten is really really nice interactions <3
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Haha yes, all kinds. From the softest vanilla euphemism full sex to weak ass bdsm (sorry I haven’t quite got hardcore there yet- like I keep blushing and backing out on letting Max wear a collar)
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Not really- I have one crossover written and another in the works. Rnm/Tvd which kinda writes itself.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I’m aware of
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope- ik I would be terrible to work with cause I’m super particular, but I’m not against the idea.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
You’re not gonna believe this- Echo
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
The Joniz kidnapping fic! I started back during s3 and formatted the entire thing, only for them to reveal more info on Jones so I had to replay it, and then he actually kidnapped Liz, fed her and dressed her and I was like ‘this is my fic!’
16. What are your writing strengths?
Idk- I think I put a lot of care and effort into making the characters actions and reactions plausible and realistic, cause I studied psychology for a bit and it’s one of my interests, so I just apply it a little too hard. Which feeds into a weakness cause it means I always feel incapable of characters pov’s I don’t think about an absurd amount
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
New POV’s and commas
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I love it personally- but the little Spanish I did retain from highschool isn’t enough to actually write it (so I use google translate) but I’m hoping once I have more free time to take up duolingo and actually learn it
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Doctor Who
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
Swing Life Away- it’s like a child to me, however poorly written
no pressure tags @lilshitwayne @morganadw @ajna-eye-cogitations @beautifulcheat @ladynox @maeglinthebold and anyone who wants to!

“I’m sorry.”
Musa nibbled on her bottom lip as she typed the message, hitting send before she could overthink it.
She hadn’t seen Riven since their argument that morning, when he had made more than clear that he didn’t appreciate her will to become a specialist.
When they had sparred together, she had let herself hope that this could be something for her for a moment. Something that gave her a new purpose and her life a meaning.
And Riven had seemed to encourage her, telling her she could do whatever she wanted with her life and stop thinking about what everyone else thought.
It wasn’t as easy as he made it sound, but his words had made her think. He was right. For once she could ignore what other people thought of her and her actions. She might see it on their faces, but she didn’t have to listen to it.
A constant chaos in her head.
And the sparring with Riven had made her feel powerful again. Even though he had beat her, she hadn’t been as bad as he had expected her to be. She had seen the surprise and the hint of respect in his eyes.
Maybe, if she trained enough, she could become one of them. Not a fairy, but a fighter. A part of her wondered if that hadn’t been her destiny all along.
Being a mind fairy had never felt natural to her. Although she had grown used to the noises in her head, she had never appreciated it. Not once had she been proud of her powers, had seen them as a gift.
All they had ever been to her were a curse.
First her mom.
Now Sam.
So she had welcomed the chance to give them up, to get rid of the chaos in her mind once and for all.
What she hadn’t expected was to feel so lost without them. Sure, she was still a fairy. But without her powers that held no meaning. She was still Musa, the girl with the quick wit and natural confidence.
But that wasn’t enough. Not in this world, the world they lived in.
And around her everyone else seemed to have it figured out. Even Bloom, who was struggling with her powers didn’t understand her, because her abilities had opened up a whole new world for her. Opportunities. Friendship.
And so Musa had begun pulling away from her friends, who were encouraging her to get her powers back. The pressure they placed on her felt too heavy, as if she was trapped in a corner, the world caving in around her.
But then Riven had been there, helping her escape Tara’s well-meant but straining getting-Musa’s-powers-back-program, letting her blow off steam during their sparring match and staying by her side when she had been literally rooted to the spot in the middle of the path.
He had listened to her, really listened and said what he thought. Not what he thought she wanted to hear from him or what everyone else told her. Instead he had made her feel understood in an unfamiliar way and a little less lonely.
But it seemed she had pushed it too far with him.
A part of her was still angry how he had treated her, the words he had said to her. But the other one understood where he was coming from.
He had been training to be a specialist for years, putting in effort, time and discipline every single day. His dedication had inspired her to find something that would help her feel that way again, like she was good at something. Something that could help others, not hurt them, hurt herself like her powers had.
And here she was, showing up what seemed to be out of nowhere and claiming to become a specialist too. Maybe she had been a bit too confident in herself and her abilities and he had thought she was being arrogant.
The truth was, she didn’t know what was going on in his head. Because for the first time she couldn’t feel it, and that felt like a curse and a gift at the same time.
Her eyes were fixed on the message for a moment, hoping for a response but doubting he would be answering soon, if even at all. Perhaps it was weird that she was texting him on his Instagram account that was so him but didn’t fit the person she had gotten to know the past days.
But she didn’t have his number and she was too proud to ask Dane for it and too distanced from Flora and Tara. She could have gone to Sky with her request, but that felt weird, and besides he would tell Bloom and in the end the girls would know.
To her surprise she wanted to keep this a secret. She had seen Tara’s look when she had interrupted their training, Riven’s hand wrapped around her arm, steading her, holding her close.
Her heart missed a beat as she thought back to that moment, but she brushed it off. It was a gift not to have to hear their judgement, but that didn’t mean they wouldn’t show or tell her in other ways.
And what she had with Riven, if she could even call it a something, she didn’t want them to ruin.
She was well aware of the reputation Riven had. Living in Alfea she had heard the rumours, had seen the way him and Beatrix had been all over each other last year. And his Instagram profile was just another proof.
But still she couldn’t stop thinking about him. How attentive he had been to look past her facade, how calm and understanding he had been with her. Not judging her decision to give up her magic and keeping it a secret for her.
Maybe what she had heard about him and what he showed the world wasn’t all there was. Perhaps it was just a facade too. An image that told people to stay away, because if they got too close, they would see behind the mask he was putting on.
Musa let out a sigh, locking her phone and pushing it into the pocket of her jeans. She had to get out of here and do something or she feared she would go insane.
Even if she would never become a specialist that didn’t mean she wasn’t allowed to train.
-
“I know you would be here.”
Musa turned, sweat dripping from her forehead and she wiped at it with her arm.
Riven was walking over to the training grounds, dressed in his black uniform that suited him a little too well. And the look on his face told her he knew it.
“Got my ass kicked this morning so...” She shrugged, turning back to the punch bag she was letting her anger out against.
Riven came to stand in front of her, grabbing it and holding it steady as she continued to throw punches at it. “Well, that’s what happens if you challenge a specialist.”
Musa stopped, her eyes meeting his as he emphasized the last word. “I get it. I really do”, she stated, brushing a strand of hair out of her eyes.
“But this”, she gestured around the training course and Riven’s eyes followed her before they locked on her again. “This feels the most like me since a long time.”
For a moment he stayed silent, and she suddenly felt a little self-aware under his gaze, knowing he was reading her. Calculating. It was moments like these that she noticed her missing powers the most. When he looked at her and saw something she didn’t know, but couldn’t slip in his mind to do the same.
“I always figured that was your thing”, he said then, moving away from the punch bag. Musa followed him curiously. “What was?”
He bent down, going through a heap of equipment before pulling out a water bottle and handing it to her. Musa took it with a grateful nod.
“Magic.” He shrugged. “Your mind fairy tricks.”
His words made her feel sick for a moment and she felt the tension she had worked so hard to get off return to her body. Mind fairy tricks.
He seemed to catch the change in her demeanour because he furrowed his brows. “Did you always hate it?”
Musa shifted. “I didn’t hate it.” He raised his brow at her. “I just-”, she let out a frustrated sigh. “Everyone else seems to have it so much easier. Their magic is beautiful, and they can decide when they want to use it.”
She shook her head, adverting her eyes. “Mine’s always been chaotic. And there’s no switch to turn it off. When you’re a mind fairy, you’re constantly on. It’s not easy.”
When she met his eyes again, she saw doubt in them. “I didn’t take you for a girl who chooses easy.” His eyes flickered over her body and she straightened, knowing he was just trying to undermine his words but feeling her heart speed up as he stared so bluntness at her body in her workout clothes.
“I don’t. But it would be nice to- get a break sometimes.”
“When you’re a specialist you don’t get a break either.” Musa felt her brows draw together, not liking what he was implying. “That’s different”, she stated and he gave her a look. “Is it?”
But before she could open her mouth to say something he held up his hands. “Look, I’m not trying to tell you what to do. That’s your thing to figure out. But right now it seems like you’re running into something head-first without knowing what you’re getting yourself into.”
“I’m a good fighter”, she said and his eyes softened for a second. So he had been impressed, even if just a little. The thought made her feel warm inside.
“You’re not bad. But you don’t need to become a specialist now that you don’t have your powers anymore. There are other things you can do.”
Now she was the one to raise her brow at him. “Like what?” He seemed to seriously think about it for a moment before he narrowed his eyes.
“Like anything! Fuck, why do you need to do anything? You don’t have your powers anymore. So what? You’re still you.”
And who is that?, she wanted to ask, but instead she bit her lip. “That’s not enough. Not in this world”, she settled on, her voice lacking emotion. A sign that she was feeling too many at once, so she was shutting down.
Riven stepped closer to her, his eyes suddenly intense again as he looked at her. “Bullshit. Fuck everyone else. You don’t need to do everything for everyone. Just do what you want.”
Some might have said this was the Riven everyone was warning her about. Reckless, selfish, just looking for fun. But as he stood so close to her, she could see that this wasn’t him trying to pull her to the dark side, or however Tara would call it.
Riven wasn’t selfish. Sometimes maybe- wasn’t everyone?- but he had gone back for her. He had saved her, getting attacked himself as he had done that.
And now he wasn’t telling her this out of his own personal motives. Something in his tone told her that there was much more behind his words he left unspoken.
You don’t need to be strong all the time.
And God how she wanted to give up, just for a moment, and let herself feel it all. The mistakes she had made, the guilt she felt, the pain that Sam had left her. That she hadn’t been enough.
That she had lost a part of herself when she had given up her magic. Her powers for one and the part that made her belong. A fairy. But she had given that up voluntary. So what did that make her? A liar? A hypocrite?
In times where they needed mind fairies the most she had chosen to give up, seeking her own relief over the other’s safety.
Riven was right; it was exhausting to be strong all the time. But Musa feared that if she allowed herself to fell all the emotions that she was pushing back, she might never recover from it.
He was so close now that she could feel his breath and an instinct told her to glance around to make sure no one saw them. And take a step back. But she was rooted to the spot, drawn in by his intensity.
“And the chaos thing?”
All her life she had feared the chaos inside of her, had been told it was bad, so bad that it was something to get rid of. And Sam had been her calm.
“Who doesn’t like a little chaos? I certainly do.” Riven smirked at her and she saw a glint in his eyes. Now was the moment she should have pushed him away in disgust. Or stepped away in fury. But none of those things were on her mind as she looked up at him.
But he was gone now.
Why shouldn’t she embrace the chaos? If it was a part of her, so she couldn’t resent nor resist it forever. Even with her magic gone her life felt messy, so maybe it was time to accept it and stop pushing it away.
“Chaos is all my life has been lately”, she confessed, searching his eyes.
So close.
Riven leaned forward and for a moment she thought he would kiss her. But that was...ridiculous.
“Who says that’s a bad thing?”, he whispered next to her ear and when she could see his face again, he still looked at her in a way no one had ever looked at her before. It was oddly thrilling.
“Everyone”, she breathed, knowing she should break the moment but feeling herself not wanting to.
“Everyone else is lame.”
A chuckle burst out of her mouth and Riven gazed at her. “What?”
Musa composed herself again, but the grin stayed. “That’s just what every single person says who thinks they are different.”
Riven looked at her, unbothered by her words because he didn’t have anything to proof to her. He knew who he was.
Musa could feel the heat between them.
Almost unbearable.
So before she could follow his words and do something she wanted, chaotic and potentially stupid she lunged forward, swinging at his leg.
He hadn’t expected the attack so he wasn’t quick enough to move away.
With a satisfied smirk she watched him go down, his back hitting the training platform with a loud thump. Around them she saw a few people staring at them, amused expressions on her their faces as they gazed from her to Riven on the ground.
And there was something in their eyes she hadn’t seen directed at her in a long time; respect.
“Wow.” Riven let out a breath and she turned back to him, extending her hand. He took it, letting her pull him up and she realized he was much heavier than he looked.
As she swayed a little on her feet suddenly he was the one steadying her, his grip around her arm reminding her of the moment he had kept her from falling into the water that surrounded the platforms.
“And here I thought you were done playing mind tricks.”
But he didn’t sound upset. She must have wounded his pride a little, yet he seemed calm and she was glad he wasn’t lashing out on her.
She only shrugged at his words, still too proud of her take-down to put much weight into them.
“I am a fairy after all”, she reminded him, surprised by the lightness with which the words slipped past her lips and he smiled a little.
"Riven!"
They both blinked, turning to Sky who looked up at them at the platform. "Silva's calling us. We're heading out."
A mission. The specialists were going on a mission. A part of her felt disappointed that Riven was leaving and their moment was over. That she couldn't go with him, with them.
But she wouldn't try to argue about this again.
Riven seemed just as surprised as her, but she could see his face ease into an expression of satisfaction. "About damn time!", he muttered and Musa followed him down the platform.
"Any news about Bloom yet?", she asked when she fell into step beside Sky, who shook his head.
The tension was evident in his shoulders and his jaw, so she stayed silent, not pressing further. She didn't need to be a mind fairy to figure out what he was feeling.
When the black jeeps came into view that Silva and the other specialists were loading with weapons and other equipment Riven looked at her again.
"Sparring tomorrow?", he asked, and it sounded so casual that she felt her heart squeeze. It took all in her not to beam at his words and the offer behind them.
Maybe she wouldn't become a specialist, but Riven would teach her how to fight. She would feel strong again.
But suddenly that wasn’t what excited her, but more so the fact that she would be spending time with him again.
With all her determination she held back the joy and gave him a nod, watching as he headed off.
"Be careful!"
She couldn't stop herself and Riven turned back to her, rolling his eyes. "Always am", he said and saluted and she stared after him as he disappeared in a crowd of black bodies.
Only when someone loudly inhaled beside her Musa remembered she wasn't alone. "What?", she asked as her eyes landed on Sky's, his brows slightly raised as he watched her with a hint of amusement in his eyes.
"Please don't give me that speech", she interjected when he opened his mouth, but the blonde shook his head. "I wasn't about to."
"Oh."
Well then.
Before following his friend Sky offered her a small smile.
"You're good for him."
This time Musa couldn’t hold back her smile.

So I’m cooking a Rivusa drabble…
Full angst, no happy ending full despair. or at least I’m trying to.
It’s all over the place, but I’m getting there.

I trust you to take the pain away
Read on AO3
Description:
"Musa tried to draw her arms back, but he held his grip. Still no more than a delicate wrap of fingers that she could get out of if she wanted, but god help her, she had no such wish. Not when his thumb was stroking at the bloody marks on her skin as he looked them over. And there was that urge to curl into him. Again."
Riven helps Musa get the runic limiters off after their first training session, and then does even more than she would have expected of him.
Word Count: 2,477
Just me attempting to write Rivusa ft some hurt/comfort, a teensy bit of angst, and Riven being a complete softie for Musa.
(I mean, is anyone surprised that it's them who have such a chokehold on me that they made me write for a show? 🤡)
I was nervous as hell posting this, and I am still trying to get better at voicing these two, so Feedback is very much appreciated! 🤲
Hope you all like it! ❤❤❤

am i insane? probably. moving on.
slide 1: first day(s)??? same fits for terra & flora in that sneak peek, all in the winx suite together and yet at the stone circle musa & bloom have changed but the others haven’t?? and also can’t find flora to save my life in the crowd so maybe that’s beforehand and then we meet flora? also stella is def spying on sky & riv in what is maybe the war room area at some point that day?? idk all this feels like a definite time jump and i am READY to be shown the changes via the girls plotting away.
Tumblr media
slide 2: feels like it’s early after the first slide because bloom is unhappy with controlling her emotions (does she get embarrassed by marco in the stone circle???) also i *think* bloom is wearing the same thing here aaaand musa is still close with the girls (more on this to come)
Tumblr media
slide 3: it’s A Lot but bare with me. this is where i think musa starts to drift apart. highly recommend watching the clip of them all using their magic together because you’ll see aisha give musa a very concerned look and question her (someone who can lip read help me out) and musa is clearly Not Happy about this all, which makes sense considering her little magic beam is practically nonexistent. is this all after the talk with riven and training and totally being like you know what he’s fucking right i don’t want to be a mind fairy look i’m not even good at this fuck it (you know, getting in her *head* about it all and therefore weakening her powers). or is the training with riven after she realizes she’s not as strong as the other girls and she’s like fuck ill go to the one guy who may just get being an outsider/cast and she then gets vulnerable with him???? fuck me either way. NOT TO MENTION bloom is somehow off campus during the day at this diner, back on campus in the room to do magic beam circle, back off campus or at least away from the group when they’re with sky at the barrier??? color me v intrigued.
Tumblr media
slide 4: THE GRAPEVINE PUB AKA THE CLUB. v excited for this one because musa is doing a lot. you can see the green tan under that jacket in the bus, then its the same things shes wearing while dancing with flora and then she’s also running away on stairs that SUSPICIOUSLY look like the ones at the DUBLIN HELLFIRE CLUB???? oh lordy. should be a fun outing fam 👀
Tumblr media
slide 5: the official “musa is off doing her own thing” timeframe. allllll wearing the same outfits we see here and guess what? musa is off training with specialists while the rest of the winx suite is off at the barrier doing little spins and twirls to what? break the reinforced barrier??? and then aisha’s new boo comes in to play here too??? v excited to see how musa denies her powers and the other girls continue to get stronger. GIMME ANGST NOW.
Tumblr media
slide 6: random scenes as of rn where bloom is in the same graphic tee +/- blazer that i *think* may be the same look as where she’s kissing sky here???? so unsure but don’t think it’s bea/riv there because heights as well as bea wears different boots in the one boots + skirt combo we’ve seen (re: slide 1)
Tumblr media
slide 7: the formal/banquet/whatever they looking fancy ok? loving all these looks, very excited for whatever comes of this banquet. mad i can’t see musa, stella & terra’s getup yet.
Tumblr media
slide 8: angry bea gets ragey in an office and lights it UP UP UP fun times.
Tumblr media
slide 9: stella & bea having some lovely one on one time at some point in the series and probably find the stumbling fairy who’s been drained of magic??? while they were chitchatting. also pretty sure this is the same outfit on bea as when we see this threesome? and i’m just??? did you skip out on them bea? did you go there after? did you get interrupted? so lost. and playing “i do not see” because rivusa supremacy lmao
Tumblr media
slide 10 (& 11 not pictured - stella in the lavendar floral print crop top with terra in a denim button down): random AF fits that make no sense with anything else we’ve seen lol. lmk if something comes to you with that halloween nonsense bloom is sporting.
OFFICIALLY DONE MY UNHINGED SYNOPSIS OF THE TRAILER, DATE ANNOUNCEMENT, AND ANY BTS I COULD FIND. you are welcome.

Rivusa + The Hunger Games AU
(It’s the Hunger Games.. I couldn’t not take the angst route here. Therefore I feel it important to say: tw - character death)
“What would you do if you won?” She whispered, wishing she could tattoo the imprint of his heartbeat against her back, memorize the warmth of his thighs bracketing hers.
Record the melody of the morning doves’ song paired with his raspy murmur against her neck. “I’d get a book.” No hesitation, like he’d known his answer for years. “I’ve never had one of my own before. You?”
Trying to see past the blur in her vision, she found Riven playing with the indigo fruit in her palm, those scarred but protective hands trembling against hers. “I’d take a warm bath.” She let her heavy head drop to his shoulder, closing her eyes to indulge in the fantasy. “One of those big ones that you can sink into. So even my bones feel warm.” She felt him smile against her temple, the weight of his lips pressing into hers.
She wondered if anyone watching had caught onto their ‘break’ yet. After all, they were the only two left - the moment they’ve all waited for. It made her want to laugh, to repeat Riven’s favorite words - never give them the satisfaction.
She wanted to say it out loud but her mouth wasn’t working anymore. Or, maybe it was because it felt like hot coals were being stoked in her stomach. At the same time Riven coughed, legs dropping to the ground, body slackening against the tree behind them.
The last words she heard before her head turned into the softness of his neck were, “You know, I think I would’ve let you kill me.”
