Vows
Pairing: Connor Rhodes x Reader
Requested: yes, by anon
Summary: Y/N's pump malfunctions, causing her to pass out at the nurses' station while she's waiting for Connor.
Tumblr media
Word Count: 907
Square Filled: Sick/Illness for #resa.3kfiestabingo
Warnings: mentions of passing out, mentions of chronic conditions
A/N: It has been a hot minute since I wrote a Connor fic, I know! So here it is! Anyway, the request was pretty specific so I hope there isn't any major mistakes. But once again, I'm in no way a medical professional so im sorry if there are!
CONNOR RHODES MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
“Hey, Y/N.” You smiled at Maggie as you walked in and she spotted you immediately, pausing as she glanced at you. “You okay?”
You smiled back and nodded. “It must be the weather or something.”
Maggie nodded, even though her eyes watched you for a while longer. “Connor’s not down from surgery yet. You can wait for him in the lounge. I’ll call up to see if I can get an estimate.”
You smiled, nodding. “It’s fine, Maggie. Thanks!” Maggie took you to the lounge, putting a cup of water on the table for you. You thanked her as she headed back out and you put your head on the table, not sure why you were feeling off today.
Barely a minute had passed when a wave of nausea hit you and you closed your eyes, willing it away or pressing it down. Whatever it was.
You glanced down at the insulin pump you carried around and held back a sigh, afraid that you would end up emptying your stomach contents in the middle of the doctor’s lounge.
But it didn’t seem to want to die down and after sitting there for a while, you figured you’d better get help.
You got to your feet shakily, and you could feel your heart ramming itself against your ribcage like you’d just run a full marathon. Something was definitely wrong.
Tumblr media
Connor tapped his foot impatiently as he watched the numbers on the elevator go down.
The surgery had dragged on for longer than expected since there was an unexpected complication. He’d managed to get the patient’s condition back under control and ended the surgery successfully, except that he was late.
He knew that you wouldn’t get mad or impatient but he didn’t like to keep you waiting. Especially since you should eat on time so you could take your medication. Besides, he’d missed you when he left early that morning so part of this impatience was that he was looking forward to seeing you.
The lift door opened, Connor spotting you almost immediately as he stepped into the ED. You were standing at the nurses' station just outside the doctor's lounge, but Connor paused.
Something was wrong.
You looked like you were propping yourself up against the nurses’ station and Connor frowned, taking another step towards you, your name hanging almost off his tongue before he saw you crumple towards the ground.
“Y/N!”
As Connor headed towards you, Maggie and Will were already getting you onto a stretcher and into a treatment room, with only a silent reassuring nod at Connor.
Connor could feel the thoughts racing a mile a minute in his head, running through all the possibilities of why you’d have collapsed. You’d both been really careful about managing your diabetes but even so, nothing had been this serious.
It felt like the minutes were crawling by as he waited outside, before Will finally opened the door.
“She’s awake.”
The two words made Connor feel like he could finally breathe again.
“Do we know what happened?” Connor asked, half afraid Will would say something more serious.
Will glanced up from the iPad in his hands. “Listen, it looks like her pump gave out on her. I’ve put in the tests to confirm but…”
Connor frowned. “We’re careful about that.”
Will shook his head. “This is not on either of you, alright? For whatever reason, I think the alarm failed to go off.” He paused, studying Connor’s face. “We’re giving her fluids right now, and if the test confirms what we think then she’ll get electrolytes and insulin as well. I’ll order a new pump for her too. Why don’t you go in and be with her, alright? I'll take care of everything else.”
Connor nodded. “Thanks, Will.”
Will smiled and just patted Connor reassuringly on the shoulder.
Tumblr media
The tests had indeed confirmed Will’s suspicions but with the insulin, electrolytes and fluids in your system, you were feeling much better.
Connor had been pretty quiet and you glanced up at him, from where you were sitting up in bed.
He looked up almost immediately, like he’d felt your eyes on him. Giving you a small smile, Connor got up, scooting to the side of your bed.
“You okay?” He asked quietly, the way he did when you were feeling under the weather.
You reached out for his hand. “Sorry.”
He frowned. “For what?”
You exhaled. “Just…”
Connor put a gentle finger to your lips, effectively stopping you from saying anything more and shook your head. “This isn’t your fault. And Will reminded me it isn’t mine, either.”
You blinked back up at him.
“Look, for better or for worse. In sickness, or in health.” Connor paused, even as you felt the tears well up in your eyes. “That’s what I promised. And I intend to live up to those vows, Y/N.”
Connor put one arm around your shoulders, the other reaching for your hand. “And for the record, in sickness doesn’t mean for worse. I mean, I think we do great.”
“You do great.” You whispered, Connor smiling and reaching up to catch the tear that had streaked down the side of your face.
“We.” Connor corrected.
You smiled. “How did I ever luck into you?” You asked quietly.
Connor smiled. “Goes both ways, baby. Both ways.”
You lay your head against Connor’s shoulders, knowing that no matter what he would always be your rock.

Before a night out with Jay would include:
Tumblr media
GIF NOT MINE, FULL CREDITS TO THE OWNER
Requested?: Nope!
Warnings: N/A
Let me know if you want the next part of what happens when you’re on the night out, enjoy!
*****
- was it even a night out if you didn’t spend the whole day dwelling on what you were going to wear?
- you’d grab a simple black dress out of the closet, staring at your reflection in the mirror as all of your insecurities scream back at you
- Jay would run a hand along your back effortlessly as he walks past, unaware of your inner demons rattling through your head
- ‘look at you’ he mumbles, pressing a kiss to the crook of your neck before grabbing a towel and tossing it over his shoulder
- you force a smile, watching as he circles back to you. His hand falling to innately rest on your hips as he pulls your hair to one side, exposing your shoulder for him to drop a soft kiss to your skin
- ‘what’s going on?‘ he didn’t expect an answer, just continued to reassure and plant delicate kisses along your arm to hope you see yourself the way he sees you
- ‘get in the shower, we’re gonna be late’ you lightly push back against his chest, feeling it vibrate in a huff of laughter as he presses one last kiss just below your ear, letting it linger slightly as he inhales your fresh scent
- ‘yes ma’am’ he marches off ‘can always join me if you want?’ He throws you a wink that you chuckle and roll your eyes at before tossing the towel at him that he had thrown on the bed just a few moments earlier
- you stood in the kitchen, anxiously tapping your foot as you sipped on your drink, you hated to be late and Jay always kept it close to the mark
- ‘waiting for you’ he remarks, smirk pulling on his lips as he tugs his jacket from the hook
- ‘you’re worse than a woman, Jay’ you throw the rest of your drink down the sink before joining him by the door, putting the last minute essentials in your bag
- he opens the door, ushering for you to exit first and then locking up. Naturally slinging his arm over your shoulders as he hums in amusement ‘gotta look good for my girl’

Emily Prentiss x reader warnings: language, alcohol consumption, smut, dirty talk, some dom/sub dynamics, nothing too crazy this time lol. Covers the "only one bed" square for xmas bingo and the "forced proximity" for @resanoona 3k bingo! Also covers a prompt requested by anon.
It was honestly a miracle that the BAU had managed to not only wrap their last case, but get home, finalize paperwork and have nothing else come up before Christmas Eve. Everyone was beyond thankful for that since it was the night of the annual Christmas at Rossi’s party, nothing too fancy, or too huge, usually just the team and any respective partners that wanted to come maybe a few extra agents or assistants that helped them out majorly through the year. The evening was full of laughter, amazing food, fancy wines, expensive bourbons and an all around sense of family and quality relaxation time.
Once dinner was finished, dishes were left for the morning and the party would end up spreading its way through the house. There were often cigars being smoked out back, Dave wandering through the rooms showing off any new fancy things he’d collected over the year or telling stories of his wild days. As the night wore on and the candles began to burn low the crowd would begin to dwindle, people slipping off into the night after a quiet goodbye and Merry Christmas, knowing they had family to see early the next morning. Eventually it was only Dave, Spencer, Tara, you and Emily left in the living room, fresh glasses of wine poured, alcohol flowing through your veins, keeping you warm and relaxed, helping everyone let go a little bit more than normal. Dave always extended the offer from dinner to everyone able to stay overnight, considering just how much alcohol he had provided it was the smart choice. Spencer was tipsily rambling on about one theory or another, pulling laughter from the girls as Rossi drained his glass, letting out a small groan as he stood from the couch.
“It’s late. You kids know where the guest rooms are.”
There was a chorus of goodnights as he reminded everyone they were more than welcome to stay as long as they wanted and breakfast would be available in the morning before he disappeared down the hall. Spencer’s theory finally wrapped up a bit later and Tara finished her drink, moving to put her wine glass in the sink.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Emily protested with a laugh and Tara chuckled.
“There’s four of us and only three rooms, I just bunked with Reid all week, it’s not happening again tonight. Besides, you two had private suites, learn to share.” She teased.
Emily let out a mock offended scoff as Spencer tried to object and you laughed rolling your eyes at Tara as she flashed the group a smile and a wave along with good night. It didn’t take much longer before you were yawning, doing your best not to lean into Emily’s shoulder as you finished your drink.
“Guys…” you started, “never thought I’d be this person, but I think it’s bedtime for me.” You sat up stretching your body out with a soft groan, “see you in the morning.” You shot Emily a lingering look as you moved from the couch, your glass finding home on the kitchen island before you wandered down the hall.
You would forever and always be thankful for Rossi and his level of hospitality extending beyond anyone you’d ever experienced. There were unopened toothbrush packages and makeup wipes in the en suite you were able to help yourself to, along with some cozy clothes stashed in the guest room’s closet. You simply tugged down a comfy cotton t-shirt, pulling it over your bare body before plugging in your phone and letting out a happy sigh as you shifted under the covers.
You weren’t surprised at the small murmur of voices in the hallway before the light flicked off, the sound of the other guest room door clicking shut and the door to your guest room opened, Emily slipping through it with a grin on her face, the soft lamplight washing her in a golden glow.
“You coming for a sleepover?” You greeted with a grin and she laughed quietly.
“You heard Tara.” Her hands moved to her shirt, sliding down the buttons she undid them, “apparently it’s our turn to share.”
“If only they knew just how much sharing we had done this week.” You purred, sitting up as you shifted onto your knees and Emily chuckled.
“Are you gonna be quiet this time?” She raised a brow, beginning to crawl up the bed, “because I’ll only touch you if you’re quiet…. I don’t want you to risk waking anyone up again.”
“I’ll be good.” Your breath caught in your throat, “I promise…”
“Good.” One of her hands wrapped around the back of your head, pulling her to you, her lips brushing against yours when she spoke, “such a shame there’s only one bed.”
“It is a king… could build a wall of pillows?” You offered with a grin and Emily chuckled, her breath warm on your skin.
“I was thinking we could take advantage of it….”
“Hmm… I do like the sound of that better.” You barely had moment to let out a huff of a laugh before Emily’s lips were on you. Your hands fell to her bare waist, wrapping around her and pulling her body tight to you while her hand wove into your hair.
The kiss built up, starting slow, a familiar dance between all too familiar lips until Emily’s tongue slid across the seam of your lips, her teeth nipping into your lower lip and you groaned. She took the opportunity to sink her tongue into your mouth, exploring every inch of you she could while her free hand started to toy with the hem of the shirt you had on. Your hands drifted upward, swiftly un doing her bra and she tossed it to the floor before her hands tickled up your bare thighs, tugging at the hem of your shirt. The kiss broke long enough for her to pull the garment over your head and it joined the growing pile on the floor.
“So fucking gorgeous.” She cooed, nudging you backwards towards the pillows, “lie back for me baby.”
You did as she asked, getting comfortable on the bed as she stepped off it to rid herself of the rest of her clothing, smirking at the way your eyes lingered on her body as if you were trying to memorize every inch. A hand on the mattress she settled over you, lips meeting yours again, this kiss deeper than the last while her hand snuck between your legs. The tips of her fingers began to play with your pussy, trailing through them feather light, teasing you, leaving you whining for more.
“Quiet…” she warned, “can’t have us getting caught…”
“Sorry M’am.” You murmured in return as Emily kissed across your jaw, her lips trailing down your neck, teeth scratching at your skin ever so lightly until she bit deeply into your pulse point and your hand flew to your mouth to muffle the gasp escaping your lips.
“That’s my good girl.” Her lips curved into a grin against your skin as they trailed across your body, her tongue swiping across your collarbone before her lips wrapped around a nipple, sucking it into her mouth while her tongue flicked across it. Her finger tips continuing to tease you, the heel of her hand randomly pressing against your clit as your hips rocked upwards in need of more.
She sunk lower on your body, lips leaving little kisses and love bites on your hips and thighs until she was settled between your legs. Her hand ran up your cunt, smearing wetness across it while her fingers widened, spreading you open for her and you let out a breathy sigh. It was only a moment later her mouth was on you, kissing at your folds, tongue slipping as deep into as you could and you bit back a moan, your fingers clenching into the bedspread. Emily continued to eagerly lap at your pussy, groaning into it, the vibrations pulling quiet whimpers from you as she buried herself between your legs. You were doing your absolute best to keep quiet, knowing just how easy it would be to be overheard by any of the others. But when Emily’s hand snuck up to join her mouth, her lips shifted up wrapping around your clit and she sucked, hard and you weren’t expecting it.
“Oh fuck!” The moan left your lips before you even realized and even faster Emily’s hand and mouth left your cunt, instead, her teeth quickly and sharply bit into your thigh, “oww!” You hissed in a whisper and she raised an unimpressed brow in your direction when she looked up at you. “That hurt!”
“And you had one rule sweetheart.” She husked back, “shame I can’t spank you, that certainly would call attention to what we were up to. Guess you’ll have to get that punishment tomorrow night. Now…another outburst like that and I’m shoving your panties in that dirty little mouth of yours, understood?”
“Yes ma’am…” your breath caught in your throat, hitching when her mouth returned to your pussy, slowly licking through you before gently wrapping around your clit once more. You tugged your lip into your teeth, holding back any noises aside from quiet whimpers as Emily’s fingers sunk into your pussy. She let out a quiet groan at the feeling of you tightly wrapping around her, how wet you already were, juices slicking her fingers within seconds. She twisted and curled them within you until she found that sensitive spot and your hips jolted up off the bed, a soft gasp leaving your lips and she smirked against your body.
“Right there?” She murmured, pressing on the spot again and you nodded, eyes tightly scrunching shut, “you like it when I touch you here?”
“Oh god Em!” It was barely above a whisper, a shuddering breath following it as she continued to brush against the spot, chuckling softly before her mouth returned to your swollen nub.
Her lips wrapped around it, sucking it into her mouth while her tongue flicked patterns against it, harder and faster until you were trembling under her. Her fingers worked in tandem, feeling the way your cunt began to flutter around her, your clit pulsing in her mouth in the same rhythm. Fire was burning through you, your body shivering with each touch of Emily’s fingers or mouth, each pass of either bringing you more and more pleasure. You let out a muffled cry when the fire broke the surface, biting down so hard on your lip you swore you’d broken the skin. Emily’s lips slipped from your clit when you orgasm hit, watching the way your juices lightly dribbled out of you, leaking down her wrist as your body shook on the bed.
“That’s my good girl… so pretty…” She praised before her fingers slipped out of you and she delicately licked around your pussy, cleaning up the smeared juices before she crawled back over you, straddling your hips and she extended her slicked fingers to you. You eagerly accepted them into your mouth, lips wrapping around them as you sucked them clean. “Taste so good sweetheart, thought I should share.”
“Thank you.” You breathed out and she chuckled at the way you dropped back against the pillows.
“Oh I’m not done. I know you can handle another one.” She sat up on her knees, shifting lower on your body as she swatted at your hip, “roll over.”
You did as she asked and she grasped at your hips, pulling you up on your knees while your head remained buried the pillows. Her knee nudged at your leg, shoving yours further apart so she was able to settle between them, a hand running up your back, pressing you into the pillows and you let out a quiet groan. Her free hand trailed up the inside of your leg, fingers brushing through your still dripping pussy before her thumb sunk in as deep as it could and moaned softly into the pillows. Your hips began to rock back onto her hand, fucking yourself on her digits as you moved and she leant over you, pressing a kiss to the small of your back.
“That’s my good girl.” Her fingers pinched your clit before they swapped places with her thumb, sinking deep into your cunt. With each thrust of her hand her hips rocked forward, body meeting yours as your hips thrusted back, eager for more, for her fingers to find that spot within you again. “Just like that… you keep fucking yourself on my fingers alright sweetheart?”
“Need more…” you whined softly and she huffed a laugh out, fingers curling within you as she picked up the pace, her body rocking into yours with more force, fingers moving faster and going as deep as they could into your wetness.
“I guess you’ve been good enough for a bit of a reward.” She purred, her free hand moving from your hip to the bag you hadn’t even noticed her bring into the room.
Your head dropped onto your arms, chest beginning to heave as your cunt fluttered around her fingers, your body burned, ached to be stuffed with her cock, but you knew that wasn’t going to be able to happen tonight. Though, you couldn’t really complain about that, Emily was just as good with her hands and mouth and judging by the punishment comment earlier, you would get everything you desired in the very near future. Her hand crooked within you, finding your g-spot once again and the pillows muffled your cry as your fingers tightened into the bedspread. You barely heard the click of the small vibrator being turned on but you certainly felt it as Emily pressed it onto your clit.
“Fuck…” you muttered, your hips jolting back towards her as it began to rub at your body.
“Give me another one, I know you’ve got it in you.” She practically growled, her fingers flicking faster within you as she turned the vibe up a notch and you gasped. She could see the sheen of sweat glimmering on your skin as pleasure rocked through you, your thighs had began to shake, your hips faltering as you continued to try to fuck yourself on her hand.
She picked up the pace of her hand, making sure she was giving you everything she could, pressing the vibrator harder against your throbbing clit before she turned it up to the highest speed. It was quiet, but the room was full of dirty noises, your squelching pussy, juices leaking down your thighs and onto Emily’s wrist, the quiet cries and whimpers muffled into the pillows as you tried to not moan, the whir of the vibrator.
“You’re almost there, I can feel it baby, let go for me.” She cooed, fingers brushing right over the sensitive spot, pressing harder and lingering for a second longer than the last thrust and you couldn’t help it, your orgasm tore through you like a wildfire.
“Oh fuck Emily!” The cry was louder than you’d intended and you winced the best you could as your body dropped to the mattress, shaking and trembling with pleasure. Emily clicked the vibrator off, her fingers slowing down, gently fucking you through your orgasm, watching the way your body twitched as she did so before she finally pulled them from you, sucking them clean. “Sorry.” You whimpered, little shivers and soft cries leaving you as pleasure surged through your nerves.
Emily’s hand softly ran up and down your back, nails scratching into your hair ever so softly as you continued to come down from your peak, a whimper escaping your lips whenever her nails traced over a sensitive spot of your body. A quiet knock on the door made both of you jump, Emily beginning to scramble to get the both of you under the covers as Spencer’s soft voice floated through the air.
“Is someone crying?” He asked and you stifled a laugh as Emily struggled to come up with an answer quickly.
“I—uh, accidentally elbowed her in the face, we’re fine.”
“You sure?” He asked quietly and you let out a quiet shriek at the sound of the doorknob turning.
“Yup!” You called back quickly, “totally fine, just hit the cheek. Serves me right for being a blanket hog.”
“…okay…” He replied and the two of you held your breath until his footsteps faded down the hallway. You heard his bedroom door click shut and a fit of quiet giggles took over you as Emily scowled down at you, swatting at your ass.
“I told you to be quiet.”
“Well then I guess I’m getting extra spankings for Christmas.” Your eyes sparkled with excitement as you looked up at her and she playfully rolled her eyes.
“Damn right you fucking are.”

A/N: This is Part 3, here's Part 2, and We'll Always Need Each Other Part 1
Jay’s got two windows open on his computer, one is scans of his old case notes from the investigation that had gotten Parr arrested, and the other window contains the sickening footage of you trapped with the man himself. Jay knew it was only a matter of identifying which old haunt you had been taken to, the only snag was that Parr never stayed in one place for long, chopping and changing locations was what made him so hard to catch in the first place.
Across from him and Will sat Hailey and Kevin, going frame by frame to see if they could spot any identifying factors within your surroundings, things that would help them narrow down your location. They also had headphones on, trying to dissect the soundscape for identifying markers like construction work, the sound of the L, or the pier, for example.
At their respective desks, Adam and Voight had started going through the proverbial phone tree of CIs that could help with intel, any information on Randy’s movements from the moment he left prison to now was the desired outcome.
The room was full of a thrumming hubbub of activity, no stone was going to be left unturned to get you back home to your brothers.
Next to Jay, Will is staring in a trance at the footage of you, watching it over and over to try and catch something with the rest of the team. Eyes burning with stress and frustration, he finally catches sight of something on the back wall of the room you’re in, only for a fraction of a second. He instantly hits pause and then goes back a few frames, until the faded yellow block lettering was at its most visible. It was a metal poster screwed into the decaying brick, the title could be partially read and it was enough to get Will’s attention.
“Jay?” Will nudges his brother.
“Yeah?” Jay snaps his head to attention, looking at your brother’s screen on the old laptop Trudy had given him. He knew he was getting special dispensation to be looking at these things as a civilian and relative.
“Look at this, I think this is a poster with abbreviations they use for metal engineering. Dad used to have something like this at his work.”
“So we’re looking for somewhere connected directly to metal production or engineering. This is good, Will. This is really good…” Jay trails off, a thought turning in his mind as he immediately starts putting something into the search parameters of his case notes.
Jay slams the table in satisfaction, making the others jump. “Got you, you fucker.” Jay mutters. Turning to the rest of the room, “Guys, I think we’ve got it. Will spotted this poster on the back wall, it’s only there for not even a second but it's an old metal engineering abbreviation guide.”
The others get up from their seats, moving to surround Jay’s desk once again, Voight slipping out of his office at the sight of movement.
“Look” Jay repeats the frames on the footage a few times, then matches it up with a poster from his internet search. Then, from his case notes, he brings up a scanned deed document for a sheet metal engineering works.
“This is the deed to a sheet metal production company Parr’s uncle owned until he passed two years ago.” He then clicks open another section, showing his comments on the uncle and the shop.
“We never found anything connected to Parr there, no DNA from victims, no unusual amounts of blood, or any illegal substances. The uncle was cleared of any connection, and we disregarded the location. But I’m willing to bet that this fucker has taken control of that workshop and is using it for this bullshit. He’s got Y/N there, Sarge. I know it.”
He can feel the adrenaline vibrating through him, eyeing the others looking for their input. Voight mulls it over for approximately 30 seconds before nodding, already grabbing his jacket, radio and vest.
“Let’s get surveillance going, I want pods, I want as up to date surveyance records as you can get. Upton, you’re gonna run point from here, I’ll send Platt to assist. I want everyone else out there with me and we’re gonna nail this sick bastard once and for all, Y/N is coming home. Let’s go!”
With the sound of chairs sliding, the commotion of jackets, vests and equipment, in one fell swoop, the bullpen is left empty. Down in the lower comms office was now the quieter yet still fervent activity of Hailey connecting to radios, pod footage and various maps in the area of the metal works, in addition to the sound of Trudy sitting in a chair to join her.
“Let’s see what we got, kiddo.” Trudy nods in Hailey’s direction.
Hailey smiles, Trudy always gave her a heightened sense of determination, “We’re gonna get this sonofabitch.”
-
Will was obviously riding in the truck with Jay, foot bouncing restlessly in the footwell, Jay side-eyes your other brother but doesn’t comment, he knows if he wasn’t driving he’d likely be doing the same.
Hailey’s voice breaks in over the radio, [“Sarge, I’ve got confirmation of a vehicle matching the description of our BOLO parked approximately one street over from the metal works. I’ve requested an ambulance be on standby in the area, and to be under the instruction of Dr Will Halstead if required.”]
[“Copy you, Hailey. Keep us informed. I want to know about any movement, arrivals and departures.”]
[“Yes, Sarge.”]
-
Jay glances at Will, knowing just how helpless he feels when he can’t hands-on control or fix a situation immediately.
“I’m gonna need you to stay in the truck at first, okay? I brought an extra radio and a medic vest. Just stay with the truck, once the area is cleared I’ll radio for you to come in.” Will glances at Jay, silently asking the question, “What if she’s not there, Jay?”
Jay’s jaw is clenched, he knows it’s a possibility but he’s not willing to let that enter his mind right now. “She’s gonna be there, I know it. I’m going to get her, Will. We both are. I’m gonna make this right.”
Will squeezes Jay’s shoulder. “I know, man. I know.” Letting out a breath as he focuses on the road ahead.
-
After they had made the video, Parr instructed the ‘cameraman’ to drag you back to the room you had been held in. The zip ties had rubbed your skin raw around your wrists and ankles, every movement no longer just stinging but an altogether more intense throbbing deep in your flesh.
You’re fighting to stay awake, hoping that at any moment your rescue would come and you’d need your energy to escape. You tried to look at the masked figure dragging you by your arms across the abrasive concrete floor, down a moulding corridor towards the room from whence you’d come. You almost don’t recognise yourself as a hoarse, broken, “Please.” comes out of your mouth. You’re certain that anything you had to say was fruitless, but it didn’t stop you from trying on autopilot.
Nausea had been swarming your senses the entire time, but now as you approach the room, you feel a sense of dread accompanied by a jolting inside you, you don’t even have time to warn the man before you’re rocking to the side to vomit up the back of his legs, wheezing and retching as the fiery agony roars inside you. You’re unceremoniously dropped by the hands dragging you as he feels the contact of your insides hit him,
“Jesus Christ, you stupid bitch!” He exclaims, not caring that he had let your body smack against the stone floor. You cannot stop coughing as you dry heave, the pain from being dropped is merely another minor detail as you see blood mixing in with the bile next to you. You were certain you would die before anybody found you.
“Get up!” The masked man snaps. Wanting to hurry the process of locking you away so he could clean himself up.
If you were in better condition you’d rip into this man for trying to ask you such a thing, it was pretty damn clear you weren’t capable of standing unassisted. Between the damage internally and the radiating, sharp, burns on your already swollen leg, it was an unaskable task.
“C-...ca-can't.” You barely get the word out before a fist slamming into your cheek sends you into another realm of shock, gasping for some kind of control over the pain you were feeling, but failing. Tears squeeze themselves from your rapidly swelling eye. In almost an instant a sensation of heaviness begins to consume you as, once again, you lose consciousness.
-
“This is it, this is the street.” Jay murmurs, parking up away from the facility so as not to get made.
Will can see the others have done the same, slotting themselves between other neighbourhood cars.
Will slips his vest on and keys his radio so he can be ready, spotting further up that the ambulance had also tucked itself into the street. He decides he should at least introduce himself to avoid any confusion in the pandemonium that was likely about to ensue.
Slipping out of the truck he silently waves down Jay, gesturing towards the ambo as your other brother nods in confirmation and permission.
Joining the others Jay moves up to the side entrance of the warehouse, watching in anticipation as Adam uses a reader to scan for sources of body heat.
-
The next time you come to, you realise you can’t have been out that long as your captor still had vomit stained jeans, deciding that the punch wasn’t enough punishment you watch through a half-open eye as he lifts his foot, heavy boot coming to press firmly on your injured leg.
You can’t stop yourself from screaming in utter despair as the burning becomes all the more intolerable, squirming to get out from under his trap.
“That’ll teach you.” He growls, spitting at you as he removes his foot, heading towards the door which he slams upon his exit.
-
Just as Adam is getting his readings back, they hear you. It sends Jay’s blood cold as he hears your guttural scream of agony, ready to surpass Kevin and the battering ram to use his own sheer force of will to save you. But Voight catches his shoulder, Kim pushing against his chest.
“Wait.” Voight hisses. “We need to do this right, split up, take different entrances, make sure we get to Y/N safely, you’re no good to her dead and neither are we.”
Jay’s body is still trying to move on autopilot but it’s Kim who tries this time, “Jay, she needs you to be okay, to be clear-headed for her, she can’t have you being reckless. Do you know how crushed she’ll be if you get hurt trying to save her? Just stop, think, we can do this the smart way.”
Jay’s feet falter, shoulders sagging as he watches Adam walk further up to make sure there were no more surprise bodies inside. He checks his watch, there could potentially be a new video in a few minutes, his stomach sinking with every passing second.
“Hurry it up, if we get to a minute and we aren’t going, I’m busting in.” Voight nods, he knew Jay was more than serious about his words. The sergeant looks to Adam who holds up 4 fingers, but then holds up a ‘wait’ gesture, jogging over. “4 assailants, there’s a 5th reading but it’s… the body heat isn’t as high, I think that’s Y/N.”
Jay swallows, eyeing Will who’s trying to make sense of the situation without being able to really see what they were doing or discussing from so far away.
Voight makes a decision, guiding Jay to stand with him,
“Kevin, Adam, take this door… Kim and Jay, we’re going to the other side, whoever finds Y/N protect her at all costs, take down whoever you have to, confirm the all-clear.”
There are silent nods as the team separates to come and find you once and for all.
-
Not even a minute after the door slams behind the masked figure it reopens again, this time it’s Parr looking very pissed off.
“You messed up my man’s clothes, he’s not happy. You got vomit all over my floor, tsk tsk. And what’s worse is that your precious brother thinks he’s here to save you…”
He smiles with a sneer.
Your eyes widen as you process the words. Jay had found you?
“Yes, that’s right, he’s outside, looking very eager on the cameras I might say. But he’s going to be very disappointed, Y/N, you’re not going to be in a salvageable condition.”
You’re shaking on the floor, instinctively curling in yourself to protect your body from whatever is about to come. You hear the unmistakable cocking of a gun…
-
The seconds merge, on the outside, Kevin and Jay pull back their arms to swing the ram into their respective doors. On the inside, Parr’s finger is not even a centimetre from pulling the trigger.
In one instant collision of action, Parr’s finger squeezes the trigger, a resounding fire of the gun and the sound of a bullet piercing the flesh of your shoulder fills the air. He turns, almost robotically, in the direction of the main corridor. Determined to go and face Intelligence without so much as a pause. Leaving you wide-eyed and gasping for breath, your weak and bound hands trying to clutch at the blood oozing profusely from your wound, the wasp-like sting of the bullet inside you only intensifying by the second.
-
The noise briefly startles the team before all hell breaks loose, Voight barks “Breach, breach, breach!” as both Jay and Kevin swing their rams into the doors, with an unrelenting desire to get to you and take out Parr and his men, everyone moves swiftly and expertly, checking each run down room full of old tools and machines, discarded scraps of metal and construction wear.
There are sounds of scuffles, yelling and ultimately gunfire as alternating calls of “Clear!” come over the radio, Kim, Voight and Jay making swift work of two individuals in masks, whilst Kevin and Adam handle one more masked assailant. The only two missing now were Parr and you.
[“Jay?! Someone? What’s happening?”] Will’s radio crackles to life with a pleading agitation.
[“Will, we’ve got some of them, I have to get Parr and I’ll have Y/N soon, just sit tight, do not engage anybody that leaves the building. Am I clear?”]
[“Copy you, Jay. Just please, hurry.”]
The paramedics in the ambo were familiar with Will, and he recognised them too. Enough that they felt they could pat his back in comfort, reassuring him that it would be okay.
-
Kevin and Adam are making their way towards the middle where they would find Jay, Kim and Voight also. To the left of them, they hear a scuffle of noise, instantly pointing their weapons in that direction. With nimble steps they stay close together, inching forward against a wall until they reach the doorway to the room. They don’t have time to even process the state of the room as their senses are overwhelmed with the smell of blood and vomit, revealed to them was the horrific sight of your trembling figure, gasping for breaths as blood spilt between your fingers and onto the thin mat beneath you.
Kevin drops to his knees in an instant, laying you flat so he can put sufficient pressure on the wound. He apologises repeatedly as you cry out for him to stop. “I’m so sorry, girl, this is gonna save you. Be strong, Y/N, I got you. Jay’s coming.”
Your eyes are still wide with agony and terror, only showing signs of true recognition when Kevin says Jay’s name. “Kev…? Jay…coming…”
Kevin’s chest aches for you, you were so beaten, so hurt and through it all, it was your brother that made your eyes fill with even the slightest bit of hope.
“Yeah, that’s right. He’s here, Will’s here too. They’re coming, just hold on for me. We’re gonna get you an ambulance, make you right again.”
You’re faintly aware of Adam’s urgent request for backup and the ambulance, giving Will directions on how to find you and them from the entry point they had taken.
-
Jay hears the commotion over the radio, almost sagging to the ground in relief that you had been recovered. But there’s little time to even think as Randy Parr comes into view in front of Jay, Kim and Voight.
Your brother and the other two officers aim their weapons without a single blink, watching with disgust as Parr smiles.
“Ah, it’s too late, Halstead. You’re done. She's done.” He shrugs, the nonchalant expression when referencing your life fuels Jay’s rage and anguish, thinking of the possibility that you could be dying back there in Kevin’s arms is enough to drive his finger to the trigger, not even hesitating to fire as Parr raises his weapon. Watching emotionless as your abuser drops to the ground with a hole in his head.
Silence.
Not even stopping to speak to Kim or Voight, Jay’s feet carry him towards you, the sound of Voight on the radio fades away as Kim follows your brother, boots slamming on the stone floor as he calls out, “Ruze! Kevin?!”
“Jay, in here!” Adam hollers, moving out the way to let Jay rush to your side as he takes in your weak form on the floor. Watching with worry for the both of you.
“Oh, Jesus Christ, Y/N. It’s me, it’s Jay, I’m here, sweetheart.” Kevin exchanges a glance with Jay, eyes filled with tears,
“We need that ambo, man.”
“Adam, radio Will again, go and help him get here!” Jay barks out the instruction, turning back to you as he cradles your face, Kevin unrelenting in keeping his hands over the wound, slowing the bleeding.
You feel a warmth surrounding your head, it’s gentle and grounding, you’d have thought that you might be hallucinating your brother again if it weren’t for the ever-present agony in the rest of your body. Trying to get your eyes to focus, you settle on concerned ones, your lip trembling as relief washes over you in the form of sobs between your struggling breaths.
“Jay… Jay, you’re here…I’m sorry…n-mad…a’ you” Your speech slurs, almost letting yourself drift now that you knew you were in good hands.
“I’m here, kiddo. I’m right here, I’m so sorry, for everything. You never have to be sorry, you hear me? I need you, Y/N. I need you to stay with me, stay awake, Will’s coming okay? He’s coming, we love you so much, Y/N. We’ll always need each other.”
Your eyes are fluttering, using every bit of energy you could muster to stay with Jay’s pleading face. It’s a surreal sensation, to feel the blood leaving your body, in all your curiosity as a kid about Jay and Will’s jobs, you never thought to ask what a gunshot would feel like. Now you knew, it was like having that hydrogen peroxide poured into a hole in your shoulder, neverending burning radiating through your chest.
Jay smooths your hair away from your face, stroking through it as he feels useless, desperate for Will to appear.
In your waning consciousness, you hear the scuffle of Will and the paramedics getting into the room. If Jay’s presence wasn’t enough, knowing Will was here was the signal your body took to let go, he would take care of you now. You let yourself fall asleep, no longer aware of Will’s calls of your name, the commotion of him and the paramedics fighting for your life as you drift…

End of Part 3.
One more to come, I think!

Hey sweets 😊 hope it's okay to send in a request for Kelly Severide. Maybe where you're a paramedic and developed feelings for the lieutenant, which he also returns but you're too focused on being jealous if Stella, so you don't see him seeking for your attention. Then one night he shows up at your place and simply kisses you before you can say a word. Also some lovely smut happens and afterwards you finally talk about your feelings?
Hello! 🙂
Thank you so much for sending this through.
As much as I love Severide, I'm only writing for our wonderful Intelligence Sergeant currently.
I don't know who has their requests open right now but I can recommend the following accounts for some fabulous Severide content who may be able to pick this up and run with it.
@severidescigar @resanoona @sheetsonfire
Hope that helps!

The day your daughter was born was the most beautiful ever of your life, nothing had prepared you for the overwhelming emotion and feeling that holding her in your arms caused you. Finally seeing her after nine interminable months was almost a dream, a dream from which you never wanted to wake up again. All the excruciating pain, the labor, the sleepless nights, all faded into the background when you heard her cry as soon as she was born. It was all worth it.
Being able to finally see her little face, kissing her cheeks was so emotional that you cried all the tears in your body. Jay did nothing but tease you and take pictures of you hugging and holding your daughter but he hadn't considered that he was even in almost worse condition than yours. You wasted no time reminding him of the way he nearly passed out when the baby was born to which he simply replied by blaming the heat.
It was the middle of winter.
If holding your daughter in your arms was an overwhelming feeling and the happiest moment of your life, seeing the love of your life become a father made you touch the sky with your finger. Seeing his eyes shine so bright they could illuminate the darkest of nights alone made your heart warm with joy and God, few times in your life have you ever felt that way.
“Okay Y/N, just a few moments away. Just a couple of thrusts and the baby will join us. We see her little head. C'mon! You can do it!” the doctor exclaimed between your legs. The pain was excruciating, your chest rising and falling quickly as if you were running a marathon, your forehead wet with sweat. You thought you couldn't make it, that you were going to die at any moment. That was definitely one of the things, if not the hardest thing you've ever faced in your entire life. Jay meanwhile was next to you as he continued to caress your face and push the locks of your hair away from your face.
“I can't... I can't do this...” you cried, exhausted and without strength.
“Yes you can baby, you can do it,” Jay said, pressing his lips on your forehead “Just few moments and we can hold our daughter, you're so strong love, I don't know anyone else who would be able to face what you're facing...”
“It hurts!” you exclaimed, looking at him but with your eyes clouded by tears. You were in so much pain at the time you didn't notice that Jay's green eyes were also full of tears.
“I know baby, I know. If I could I’d take all the pain away...” he kissed you again, stroking your hair, feeling his heart breaking in million of pieces “Here, take my hand, don't worry about holding her tight.”
And fuck if you squeezed his hand tightly.
Jay didn't even believe it was humanly possible you could have all that force until he feared you could break his fingers. He didn't complain about the pain, he knew it wasn't in the least comparable to what you were feeling in those moments, he didn't blink when you showered him with insults, swearing he would never touch you again.
He actually even found it funny but he didn't dare laugh, he knew you were going to kill him.
Your screams echoed through that hospital room, and as the doctor continued to encourage you to push, Jay felt the chasm inside him open up more and more. He hated seeing you like that, seeing you in so much pain and not being able to do anything to stop it. It was a mixture of emotions he had never felt before - perhaps it was close to what he had felt since he had known you - fear, joy, anxiety, worry, happiness.
He was about to become a father.
It was really happening.
“Here I see the head honey, another push and the baby’s out” the doctor announced with joy and Jay made the mistake of glancing between your legs. He had seen hundreds dead people’s bodies, badly injured over the course of his policing career, but seeing the little girl's head come out of you almost made him collapse.
“Sir are you okay?” a nurse asked noticing how Jay's complexion had become the same as a ghost. He nodded, not being able to answer and immediately looked away and then back to you. You giggled in tears. “Jay go sit down I don't want you to pass out.”
“No way baby I'm fine, I'm not leaving you.”
With one last push the doctor gave birth to the baby and you didn't notice how much you had held your breath until you heard her cry and at that point you let out a sigh of relief.
You wished you could have filmed on your cell phone the moment Jay cut the umbilical cord, the way he kept asking every second if he was doing right and didn't want to risk hurting the baby, the way his hand was shaking despite the heartening words of the doctor and the nurses.
Your heart exploded with joy when you finally held your baby and even more when he picked her up.
Isabel Kay Halstead.
Jay still couldn't believe it.
He was really holding his daughter.
Sure, nine months had passed, but it was only then he really realized it, when he realized for a fact his world had just turned upside down.
He was so happy, so fucking happy.
The baby was asleep and he was sitting in a chair next to your bed as he stroked your hair, looking at you with all the love he had.
“Try to get some sleep baby, you did such a great job today you deserve it” he whispered, a little smile on his lips. You giggled as you started to feel heavy eyelids, god you were so tired.
“But what if Isabel wakes up...”
“I'm here if she wakes up, you deserve to rest my love. Don’t think about doing anything else for the next few months. You carried her for 9 months and you've just given birth, the least I can do is let you sleep. She's safe baby.”
You smiled, nodding slightly. You knew he meant to keep his word, you knew he would sacrifice everything to rest you and take care of your daughter.
“I'm so proud of you baby” he whispered after leaving a kiss on your forehead but you didn’t hear those words, having fallen asleep before he could even finish the sentence.
Jay stood up and tucked the covers over your shoulders as he watched you sleep for a moment. He smiled, unable to believe how lucky he felt to have chosen you as his life partner and mother of his daughter.
Taking care not to make any noise, he walked over his baby's crib, delighting to watch her as she slept. With his forefinger he lightly stroked her little plump, rosy cheeks.
He really just couldn't wrap his mind about the fact she was finally there, that he could finally look at his daughter, hold her. She was so small, so tiny and he couldn't believe how such a small being could have messed up his world so much.
Jay hadn't realized you’d woken up shortly after, not being able to continue sleeping.
Isabel slept in his arms while he continued to gently rock her, sitting on a small armchair. He didn't take his eyes off her even for a second and you couldn't help but think how lucky you felt watching Jay with the baby, how you could never wish for a better father for your daughter.
“God I already love you so much” he whispered to his newborn, observing her as if she was the most beautiful of wonders. She moved slightly but despite this she didn’t wake up, continuing to sleep.
“I still can't believe you're here, your mom and I are so happy. I'm not gonna lie baby, when mom told me she was pregnant I panicked, not because I didn't want you, indeed you are the best gift I have ever received, but because I was so scared. I'm still so afraid. I'm afraid of not being good enough for you, of not being the father you deserve to have. I am not perfect baby, I cannot promise I won’t make you angry, that I will never be wrong but I promise I will try not to, I promise I will always be there for you, at any time. I'll be there when you’ll take your first steps, when you’ll say your first word, when I’ll have to punch someone for hurting you. No one will hurt my little girl I swear on my life...” he chuckled, suddenly feeling a pit in his stomach open at the thought that his little girl would grow up “God baby I'm not ready for you to grow up, can you stay like this forever? I'm not ready to share you with the world, just the thought makes me panic. Is it normal? I don't think so but we'll pretend it is,” he continued, stroking Isabel's cheek as he continued to look at her “You're truly the best thing that has ever happened to me, or rather, you and mom are the best things that have ever happened to me. I can't even expressing what I feel inside, I'm so fucking happy...” he chuckled again, feeling his eyes watery “Don't let mom know I said this word or she'll kill me.”
Jay was silent for a moment, his eyes still on his little girl. He didn't even realize he had started crying until a tear ran down his cheek and fell on Isabel's. He wiped it off quickly, unable to keep his emotions.
“I love you so, so damn much...”
-
Three years passed from that day on and Isabel had certainly become daddy's little girl. The way she had him wrapped around her finger was something never ceased to surprise you. The way those two loved each other made your heart burst with joy, in a way you never thought possible.
“Mommy, when is dada coming home?” your little girl asked, approaching you with her favorite puppet in her hand, of course a gift from Jay.
“You know Isabel I'm starting to think you love dad more than mom,” you replied as you continued tidying up the living room, giggling. Isabel hugged your legs, being careful not to drop her puppet, looking at you with her big green eyes, capable of melting the coldest of hearts. They were really Jay's eyes, god, it was like see him in those two emerald pools.
“That's not true mommy!” she exclaimed in an even offended tone of voice, then waving her arms in the air as if she wanted to be taken in your arms. You pulled her up and she hugged you with her little arms, with all the strength she had in her body. “I love you too so much, not only dada. I love you both equally!” she said with her little voice and you filled her face with kissed, making her giggle.
“I know sweetie, I know. I love you so so much” you said, breathing deeply the scent of her hair. “Do you want to surprise dada?”
Isabel's eyes lit up instantly as soon as you mentioned her dad and she nodded quickly, not even knowing what the surprise was.
“What surprise?”
“It's lunchtime soon, would you like to cook something together and bring it to him at work? I'm sure he misses you a lot too and can't wait to see you.”
Isabel began to exult and clap her little hands so much that holding her was impossible, so you gently placed her on the ground and like a bolt she ran towards the kitchen, followed by you who couldn't stop smiling.
“Hurry up mommy! Let's cook!”
And you were right.
Jay missed both of you so damn much, he couldn't stop thinking about how much he wanted nothing more than to go home, be with you and Isabel and not think about anything else.
He giggled when he thought back to the moments when he made fun of Alvin and Antonio for wanting nothing more than to go home and be with their children, telling them to have more fun, but the truth was since Isabel was born he didn't want to do anything else. He wanted to do nothing but be with his daughter, with you, all the time.
In a moment of break at work, Jay took the opportunity to send you a message asking how both of you were doing in the morning and obviously some photos of Isabel. He wasn't surprised when you didn't answer him right away, he knew how much Isabel could keep you busy.
When you arrived at the district, you and Isabel greeted Trudy who had the usual pout on her face, which disappeared as soon as she saw Isabel jumping with a huge smile on her face.
“Look at you little Halstead! Aren’t you the prettiest little girl? You came here to see me right?” Trudy asked, stroking Isabel's head and hugging her, knowing full well this wasn’t true.
Isabel shook her head, awkwardly pulling a lock of hair out in front of her eyes, which made you smile. “No, we are here to see daddy, we cooked his lunch and brought it to him. Can I see him? Can I see him? Where's he?”
“Oh I’m offendend now,” Trudy pouted and Isabel gave her a peck on the cheek to cheer her up. “I'm gonna buzz you up, I'm happy too see you both and Halstead's gonna be happy too, he's been grumpy all day.”
“Thank you Trudy,” you thanked her and after giving her a hug, you gently grabbed Isabel’s hand and went upstairs.
“Look who's there!” Kim's voice caught Jay's attention and when he looked up and saw you and Isabel climbing the stairs his heart almost burst with joy. He jumped up from his desk, going straight to meet you two.
“Dada!” Isabel exclaimed with joy, letting go of your hand and running to meet her father, who immediately took her in his arms making her spin in the air.
“Oh my god what are you doing here? I'm so happy to see you!” he said as he hugged the baby. You couldn't stop smiling seeing them together, that scene was so tender everyone's hearts melted, even Voightìs.
“I missed you Dada, we brought you lunch! Mum and I cooked it, but I cooked more,” Isabel spoke as she looked at her father with loving eyes. Jay let out a sound of amazement before printing a kiss on the child's cheek. “No way! I'm sure it’s so good!”.
He looked over at you, with a smile that nearly made you pass out on the floor in front of everyone else.
“Hi baby” he whispered, approaching you and giving you a kiss on your lips “You look so good.”
You didn't have time to answer as Adam's voice preceded you. “You two are disgusting. How about running away from here little Halstead?” he asked, approaching the three of you but looking just at Isabel.
She shook her head, hugging Jay even more. “I want to stay with Dada.”
“Oh... Is that so? Then I guess I'll have to return that little toy I bought you...” Adam spoke and Isabel's eyes lit up, trying immediateky to go him. You laughed, rolling your eyes at how everyone on the team continually spoiled her.
-
One night Jay was taking a shower, you and Isabel were in bed playing together. The bathroom was attached to the bedroom so when you heard the shower head go off you knew Jay was done.
And Isabel understood it too.
In fact, she jumped on the bed suddenly, instantly giving up the toys she was playing with and headed for the dresser where Jay had his shirts.
“What are you doing darling?” you asked amusedly at the way her small hands tried to open the drawer, which was far more substantial than hers.
“Dada shirt!” she exclaimed, almost crying when she realized she couldn't open it on her own. You got up and went near her to be able to help her, and in no time at all she grabbed a shirt and ran out of the room, going to meet Jay who was just coming out of the bathroom.
He had a towel around his waist and another in his hands as he dried his hair with another one.
Damn I am so lucky.
“Dada! Dada! Your shirt!” A huge smile was painted on his face as she saw her daughter running towards her waving his shirt in her hands.“Oh baby thank you so much, come here. What I would do without you,” he said, reaching down to her height and picking her up before starting to fill her with kisses.
“Ew dada you're all wet!” Isabel exclaimed, a disgusted expression on her face as she struggled to free herself from Jay's grasp, giggling and squeaking at the same time. “Let me go!”
“Never!” he exclaimed continuing to kiss her as he walked to your bedroom. It was in vain for Isabel to ask for her help as Jay never let her go, instead he placed her on the bed and started tickling her. The room filled with the sound of Isabel's laughter and giggles as she continued to stir under Jay's grasp.
You couldn't stop looking at them and smiling, feeling your heart explode with joy and happiness. The way those two loved each other was a love you had never seen or felt, it was something you didn't even see in movies.
Isabel doted on her father and her father doted on her, they were like siamese twins, they just couldn't be without each other.
You and Isabel had an unbreakable bond, there was no question of that, but the feeling that bonded her to her father was visceral, something you admitted you would never have.
You would never change anything, you loved the way they loved each other and with each passing day this love grew more and more. You loved the way Isabel could always count on Jay, the way she took refuge in his arms when she was sad or when she cried, how she jumped and was excited when he came back home from work in the evening.
“Dada can I sleep with you and mama tonight?” she asked, looking at Jay like you weren't even there.
“Isabel I...” you intervened but obviously Jay hadn't even let you finish the sentence that he had already agreed.
“Of course you can baby,” he replied, hugging her and stroking her hair.
“You know Isabel, you are a big girl now and big girls sleep alone the night,” you said, knowing full well it was a losing battle.
“But I have nightmares mama, I want to be with you,” she replied, putting on the tenderest and cutest dog face she was capable of as she alternated her gaze between you and Jay.
“You can sleep with us as long as you want, no nightmare will bother my little baby,” Jay spoke up, hugging her again not before he kissed her forehead. Isabel started giggling as she snuggled Jay, a malevolent expression on her face as she looked at you.
I can't believe this.
Three years and she already knew how to leverage the feelings of her father, when you said she had it wrapped around her little finger you were not lying at all.
She was definitely Jay's daughter.
And that’s how they fell asleep together and hugged each other that night, her lying on Jay's chest as he had his arm around her little body in a protective manner.
“Come here baby,” he had said before falling asleep, spreading his other arm as if to invite you. You obviously didn't make him repeat it again and, as far as possible without waking Isabel up, you settled into his arm, your head resting in the hollow of his neck. “Hey give me a kiss.”
His tone even sounded offended when he noticed you were nestled on him, making you giggle as you lifted your head and stamped a thousand kisses on his lips.
“You know she has you wrapped around her finger right?” you teased him, leaning your head back as you stroked your daughter’s hair.
“Oh yeah I know but just look at her cute, how can you say no to that face? It's your fault anyways.”
“What? Why?”
He kissed you on the forehead before yawning. “Those puppy dog eyes, she got them from you. You know damn well I can't resist them.”
The times you let Isabel sleep with you and Jay were not uncommon, but there was certainly no shortage of little squabbles trying to getting her to sleep alone. Jay was right, it was really hard to tell her no.
But unluckily, there were even the nights when she woke up crying because of some nightmare and those were the nights when you felt most guilty for leaving her alone. This happened in particular when it was raining and there was thunders. You heard her crying through the baby monitor one night but before you could even figure out what was going on, Jay had already jumped out of bed and ran into Isabel's room, followed right after by you.
His heart was beating madly, his paranoid mind already thinking of the worst possible and imaginable scenarios.
“Hi baby, it's okay I'm here. Dad's here, it's okay” he would say to her, immediately taking her in his arms and holding her tightly to his chest while he cradled her and stroked her hair.
Isabel cried, refusing her face in the hollow of her father's neck, her safe haven.
“It's okay baby, nothing's gonna happen to you, mama and dada are here” he kept whispering in her ear to calm her down.
“I hate... I hate thunders...” she sobbed, even struggling to speak from her tears, her little body shaking with sobs. You approached them and started stroking her hair.
“Look at me baby,” you said and at that point Isabel looked at you, her face red and streaked with her tears as Jay continued to cradle her in his arms.
“I know they're scary my baby. Like dad said we wouldn't let anything happen to you, you're safe. How about you come and sleep with us?” you asked her and at that point her crying subsided and her eyes began to shine. The way she stopped crying so suddenly almost made you laugh. Jay couldn't help himself and let out a chuckle after you two exchanging a look, kissing Isabel at the top of her head after.
“Really?”
“Of course baby, you can stay with us as long as you want,” you said, cupping her face and wiping her tears with your fingers. She smiled and stretched her arms out to you, a sign she wanted to be held by you.
“Let's go sleep honey,” you said, kissing her cheek.
“Dada can I sleep on you?” she asked, after the three of you had settled into the bed.
Jay chuckled, opening his arms widely. “Can I ever say no to this pretty face? Come here.”
She giggled and settled on Jay's chest. He hugged her, holding her tightly to him and placing kisses on her head, pampering her in an attempt to make her completely forget what had happened. She was so grown but she seemed so small in Jay's arms at the same time.
And like this she fell asleep, held in the arms of one of the people who loved her most in the world.
-
Going to work the next day was more tiring than usual and you couldn't wait to go home and see Jay and your little girl, be with them for a while and forget everything else.
As soon as you opened the door of the apartment you shared with Jay, your gaze immediately went to search for Isabel and Jay, who you knew was off work earlier that day. “I'm home!”
No reply.
After closing the door behind you and hanging your jacket on the hanger, you realized why no one had answered. In an instant the house was filled with giggles and screams and laughter and the sound alone caused a huge smile to form on your face, your heart full of joy. As a magic trick, instantly all the tiredness and frustration of the day seemed to have vanished.
Entering the living room you immediately saw Jay sitting on the sofa and Isabel sitting on his lap squirming as he tickled her. They were so much in their own little world they didn't even notice your presence, so you just leaned on the door jamb and looked at them with a stupid expression on your face.
He was the first to notice between the two. “Hey look who's back!” he exclaimed with a huge smile as soon as he saw you, pointing in your direction. Isabel followed the direction of his gaze and let out a small scream when she saw you, quickly getting off Jay's legs and running towards you.
“Mama!”
You reached down to her height and opened your arms, hugging her as she threw herself on you. “I missed you mommy.”
“Oh baby I missed you too baby, sooo much,” you replied, filling her face with kisses as she giggled.
“Just her?” Jay asked jokingly, standing up and coming towards you as you too stood up with Isabel in your arms.
“Do I know you sir? Why are you in my house?”
He laughed and kissed you on your lips, completed with an “Ew” exclaimed in full disgust from Isabel, causing you and Jay to burst into laughter. You both knew the real reason was her innate jealousy towards her father.
After having dinner, you were sitting on the sofa, playing with your daughter. “What is it?” you asked, noticing the way Jay was smiling. His gaze was directed at little Isabel who continued to play with her toys. Isabel's birth had really changed him, you had seen Jay happy but the way he did nothing but talk about the baby, to everyone with so much pride it almost made you cry, the way he wanted to do nothing but be with her, god, you've never seen someone have so much love for someone else.
“I just...” he sighed happily “I just love her so fucking much. Like I can't even explain it, I would burn the world to the ground if she asked me too.”
You chuckled and he put his arm around your shoulders, drawing you to him before hugging you.
“I want another 300 of her.”
“What?" you asked, looking at him as if a second head had just sprung up.
“I want more kids, lots of them, like I want a football team.”
“Sure easy for you to say, you’re not the one who’s gonna push them out of your vagina,” you joked, giving him a light nudge that made him laugh “Let's give Isabel just a brother or a sister for now, what do you think?”
“Really?” he asked looking at you for a moment with adoring eyes that shone like two stars. You nodded giggling like a schoolgirl as you noticed the little grin on his lips. He alternated his gaze between your eyes and your mouth, wetting his lips with his tongue.
Oh god.
For some absurd reason you knew exactly what was going through his head at that very moment and you couldn't deny that whatever it was you couldn't wait for it to happen.
“Can't wait to have another one, baby.”

Family Ties Chapter 1
She stumbled to her feet from the side of the road where she had fallen a moment ago feeling the sting on her legs and hands. She looked and saw in the distance a nearby building. Her head pounded in pain in time with her heartbeat which she could feel pounding in her chest. ‘I need help. Need to hide. I can’t let him find me. He’ll kill me if he does.’ Her thoughts rushing through her mind as she tried to clear her vision of the tears dropping from her eyes. She hugged her arms around her own upper body as she tried to push through the pain and fear.
A brightly lit building came into focus as she turned a corner and she saw numerous vehicles in front. She stumbled towards the door as her body ached from the fall and the hits she had taken. A man with green eyes saw her first as she tried to call out for help. He must have seen her injuries as he came running to her. Her voice filled her ears thru the pounding pain as she felt the tears fall from her eyes again, “Help me please. Don’t let him find me.” She said as the world around her began to turn black feeling the weakness take over her body from the pain causing her body to shiver in the warm night air. His scent filled her nose as he came close making her finally feel safe and protected.
His voice filled her ears as she felt her body begin to fall. “I’ve got you. It’s okay. You’re safe.” He said as his eyes met hers and she felt strong arms hold her in them finally as her body was giving in to the darkness surrounding her vision.
************************************************************************
She woke up later to find herself in a white room and alone. Her fears raced through her mind. ‘Did he find me? Oh, God. The man who helped me, did he get hurt?’ She felt her heart racing as well as her head pounded to match her heart rate causing her to groan in pain. An alarm caught her off guard making her shriek. A woman with dark hair entered and she was dressed in red medical scrubs. She put her hands up seeing the fear filling her patient’s eyes. “Shh. It’s okay. You are safe. You collapsed at the 21stDistrict. They brought you here to Chicago Med. You’re in the Emergency Department right now.” The new woman said to her. “My name is Dr. Natalie Manning. I am here to help you. I know you were hurt by someone based on your injuries. But I promise that you are safe. The Intelligence unit is going to take care of you. The man who caught you is Detective Halstead. He heard your comments. He wants to help you.”
“I remember a set of Green Eyes. They made me feel safe. I had to get away, had to get safe. He would do worse if he found me. Never wanted me out of his sight or not following his orders. We fought. Before, he had thrown things but never hurt me. He hit me this time. I’m afraid he’ll kill me if he finds me this time.” She said as she began to cry feeling Natalie take her hand trying to make her feel safe. She could feel the motherly empathy that Natalie seemed to exude making her calm down and feel safe.
A new man entered the room, he spoke to Dr. Manning. “What do we have, Dr. Manning?” his southern drawl evident but still he and Natalie noticed the woman curling away from him after jumping when he entered and the monitor showing her heart rate was alerting to a higher rate.
Dr. Manning quickly spoke, “Dr. Marcell, I have things here if you could step out please.” She said firmly keeping the patient’s hand in hers trying to keep her calm. Natalie watched as her patient’s heart rate settled once Dr. Marcell had left. “It’s okay. You are worried about new men which makes sense with what you just shared. I will make sure that we keep that in mind and put a note in your chart and I will share with our nurses. No one new unless we introduce them to you by someone you know first. Do you want to meet Detective Halstead and his partner Detective Upton?”
“Is his partner a man?” the woman asked quietly.
“No, her name is Hailey. They helped bring you here. I would not let them hurt you, I promise. Jay’s, or Detective Halstead’s, brother is actually a doctor here too and I trust both of them. Okay?” Natalie said to her in a calming tone.
“Okay. I’ll see the detectives.” She said picking nervously at the blanket in front of her. “Dr. Manning, my name is Brielle Jacobs. I prefer Brie though, Dr. Manning.”
“Okay. I promise that they will help you, Brie, Okay?” Natalie said to her smiling.
Natalie went to the door and called out, “She’s awake, Jay. Be cautious. She confirmed that someone did hurt her. She is nervous about new people, men specifically. For some reason, she said you make her feel safe.”
Brie watched as the man with the Green Eyes entered with a shorter Blonde woman with him. She approached first. “My name is Hailey, Detective Upton. Do you remember who hurt you? Do you remember your name, where you live?” she said spouting off questions quickly.
“Hailey. Slow down.” Jay said firmly seeing Brie get concerned and coil back toward the pillows behind her. He approached Brie’s side slowly. “Hi. I’m Detective Jay Halstead. You collapsed outside our station. You said you needed help, that someone was trying to hurt you. Do you remember that?” he said slowly his eyes meeting hers again.
Brie sighed looking into his eyes making her feel comfortable and safe again. “Yes. I remember saying I needed help. It is one of the few things I remember before I woke up here. My name is Brielle Jacobs. Call me Brie please.” She watched as he moved to sit next to her. He took her hand in his and she spoke again. “My fiancé Michael DiLeone. He did this. He had never hit me before. We met so soon after I arrived in Chicago. He treated me so well at first. I never noticed how he isolated me, kept me from my family, controlled my life, had me watched. I don’t know what he was involved with or still in, but it was wrong or feels that way. His guards were always around. He gave me orders all the time that were to be followed. I was scared of him. He had thrown things in our home before but never hit me until now.” She said her hand trembling in his.
Detective Halstead spoke again softly. “Where did you live Brie?”
“In Hyde Park. The house is in Michael’s family’s name. They are all in the same business, I guess. His family is Italian. His mother just follows his father’s orders. It is like tradition or something. Michael’s uncle Angelo is the head or patriarch of the family.” She said looking down at the blanket. “Michael’s going to be furious that I am talking to you. Police and doctors are enemies in Michael’s mind. And I’m not home. He will be enraged.” She said getting quieter as he started to feel her hand as it shook in his.
Hailey spoke softly next trying to give comfort to Brielle. “We already have a protective order waiting to be filled out for you, Brielle. We just needed your name and who hurt you to add to it.” She said coming closer calmer than before understanding more Brie’s fears. “Our Sergeant is a man by the name of Hank Voight. He is determined to help you get safe. Our unit is one of the best in the city. We will keep you safe.” Brie nodded at Hailey’s words.
Brie felt her eyes grow heavy as her body grew sleepy as her medication reduced her pain and her fear of being alone set in and found by Michael rose. She shook her head fighting the sleep. “No, I can’t sleep. He’ll find me. Have to stay awake.” She said drowsily as Jay and Hailey listened.
She felt the pressure of Jay’s hand in hers redirecting her focus on him. “It’s okay. Go to sleep if you need to Brie. I will get 2 female officers posted outside of your door from our precinct. Only those people that you say are okay or that Dr. Manning says are okay will be allowed in with you, okay?” he said to her reassuring her as she lay back on the pillows behind her.
“Will you stay until I am asleep? For some reason, I feel safe with you.” Brie asked him sighing slightly. He nodded and he watched as her eyes began to close as her body curled towards him.
He felt her hold tighter to his hand, but he turned to Hailey not letting go keeping his word to Brie. “Can you go call the information in, Hailey? We need that protective order fast and we need to get it served now. DiLeone’s uncle doesn’t play around. If she has run from them, she is definitely not safe. That family is Old World Style Mafia. Brielle is right about being in danger. We have to help get her out.” He said to her. “Call Platt, ask for two female officers to sit with her.”
“You got it, Jay.” Hailey said stepping out of the room pulling her cell from her pocket.
Natalie looked at Jay’s face as he looked over Brie’s lightly sleeping form. “Are you okay, Jay?” she asked.
“This kind of cruelty makes me furious, Natalie. She said she had just come to Chicago when she met him. He snapped her up before she had a support system. He controlled her life. She is terrified and no one, no woman or child deserves that kind of fear.” He said as Brie turned in her sleep towards his voice.
“I agree, Jay. And it is only by some kind of miracle that she did get away and she found you. She must have a guardian angel on her shoulder. If she hadn’t come for treatment or been found by him again, who knows what could have happened.” Natalie said sighing. “I need to go talk to Maggie about the special orders here. She needs women around her at first. Ensure that she starts to feel safe as she heals.” She said slipping out the door.

Will ever write Jay or Hailey x reader?
Nope. I’ve gotten an ask like this before and I’ll say it again. Not something I read (not that I’m ever the target audience for reader insert). And I can guarantee never something I will write. Idk if either has their requests open right now or not, always make sure to check their pages for that info, but for characterxreader, go for @fighterkimburgess, or @resanoona. While not my jam, both are talented writers, so you can’t go wrong there. And if they aren’t open for requests maybe they can steer you towards others who are. Cheers Nonny.

Model Husband

CONNOR RHODES MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
It had been a long day. A long draining day and Connor was just looking forward to seeing you and having a quiet night together.
Figuring he’d check if you were ready, Connor left the doctor’s lounge still in his white coat, taking the lift right up to the ICU.
As he stepped in, he caught sight of you immediately, running towards one of the rooms where there was an obvious code blue, a rush of staff heading towards the room.
Connor stood to the side against an empty side of the station, quietly watching as you worked quickly to assist the doctor standing next to you.
It must have been a tough day for you too, Connor caught himself thinking as his eyes followed you. Anyone else would have missed it - the slight droop in your shoulders, or the way you stood telling him you had that persistent ache at that one point on your shoulders that kept coming back to haunt you.
Connor looked down as he picked up on the sounds of “Clear!” from the doctor that was working on the patient. But Connor also knew well enough the chances…
He held back an audible sigh as the faint sound of a flat line made its way out to him. Now, the look in your eyes told him he really needed to get you out of there.
You looked up, catching sight of your husband now. Even just seeing him from afar made you want to cry, so you gave him a small smile and he nodded, telling you not to worry and that he’d be right there waiting.
Tumblr media
If anyone asked how you’d gotten from the hospital back home, you’d have to ask them to ask Connor.
You were drained, both physically and mentally. The knotted ache in your shoulder that was consistently giving you issues was acting up again, you felt dead on your feet and the ICU had lost three patients today.
You weren’t exactly emotionally attached. You were an experienced enough nurse to handle that well, but even so losing patients was draining no matter what.
“Here.”
Connor handed you a plate and you smiled up at your husband from where you were seated with your legs crossed on the couch.
Like a model husband, Connor had insisted on preparing dinner while you took a hot shower which had definitely made you feel a lot better even though the knot in your shoulder was still there.
“Thanks, babe.” You answered, not realizing how hungry you were until the smell of pasta reached you as you took the plate in your hands.
The both of you ate in mostly silence, but Connor sat close by and that in itself made you feel better and you glanced at your husband, who returned you a smile.
Connor took the empty plate out of your hands and you frowned.
“You already cooked.”
Connor shook his head. “Just fulfilling my husband duties.”
“I knew I married you for a reason.” You announced in a sort of teasing fashion that would have been more convincing if you weren’t so exhausted.
Connor just smiled and pressed a kiss to the top of your head before you heard him patter off to the kitchen, flipping on the stereo on his way.
Music was now playing softly in the apartment and you closed your eyes for a while, the faint sound of running water from the kitchen mixing together with the soft music tones. This was the kind of evening you needed, especially today.
You opened your eyes again when you felt Connor’s hands touch your shoulder from behind you and you glanced up at him.
“What’s going on?” You asked with a smile. “Is today a special day I don’t know about?”
The words were barely out of your mouth before your brain started working, trying to figure out if you had forgotten a date or something.
Connor shook his head. “Relax. The ache’s been bothering you today, hasn’t it?”
You felt his thumb press firmly against the knot, and you exhaled, the stress seeming to leave your body almost instantaneously.
You closed your eyes, feeling Connor’s fingers seemingly press out all the negative feelings and stress from the day.
Angling your head upwards again, you reached up for his hand. “You must be tired too, come here.”
“You sure?”
You smiled, tugging gently so that Connor would make his way back around to the front of the couch and next to you.
“This is the best way you can help me recharge.” You said, fitting yourself right into his arms , both of you sprawled on the couch.
Connor smiled, his arms looping around your body. “Me too.”
You chuckled, resting the back of your head against his chest, feeling the edges of Connor’s stubble against your temple and knowing this was the perfect way to end a stressful day.

Just a quick note to say hi and sincerely hope all is well with y'all. I'm still in the lower 48 visiting my family, though my husband flew back to Alaska today and I'm pretty bummed. I hate being apart from him, even if it's for a good reason. *
So I'm tagging @sylviesunshine @infatuatedjanes (thanks for still tagging me. I love it. Pls don't stop) @resanoona and @oingo233 to please tell me something about your day, or something you're excited about. Please? 💗
I would love to get back to writing. While I don't think I'd like requests exactly, I'd be open to ideas or suggestions if anyone has something in mind.
*real life elaboration under the cut
I am currently 8 weeks pregnant with our second child and bc we live in remote Alaska, we decided that I (and our toddler) would stay here for a few doctor appointments just to make sure the baby and I are getting the best care as there were some issues with the first pregnancy. That, and I'm going to have the baby here when it's time.
We are so excited but it just sucks being away from my husband. He really is my person. My home, even and I want to be around him. I don't even have a return to Alaska date yet bc we're taking each appointment in stride and just seeing how things go. And oh yeah 😅 not pregnancy related but I have an inflamed kidney tube. I see a specialist next week for it but idk what to expect or what this means so if yalll could pray/send positive vibes/good thoughts/whatever I'd appreciate it.

Iowa Chill
Tumblr media
Heather Dunbar x Jackie Sharp. Warnings: language, hurt comfort, political crap. Covers the hurt/comfort square for @resanoona 3k bingo. Anon requested: "[ jaw ] - for receiver to place leisurely kisses along sender's jaw for the duckie couple?" and I took it in a completely different direction cause I needed some hurt today. Set directly after the Iowa debate.
The air in Iowa was thick with many things tonight, but the one Jackie was currently feeling down to her bones was the cold. Getting the cold shoulder from Heather certainly wasn’t helping. Then again, that was her own doing and she knew it.
She knew she was crossing the line during the debate, that there was no doubt Heather would be upset about the other woman dragging her kids into things. She hadn’t meant to, the topic just opened up and the words slipped from her lips before she’d really even realized. She’d felt the coldness from Heather’s eyes instantly, knowing that she’d fucked up. That was the problem being political opponents while also harbouring a very secretive relationship.
They’d taken separate cars back to the hotel for obvious reasons, and Jackie was more than ever thankful for the fact that Heather had a full suite booked, it was easy for the other woman to disappear into the office and leave Jackie to fend for herself. Jackie tried to stay out of the way, tail between her legs as she attempted to warm herself up with a shower, wrapping herself in warm pyjamas as she moved through the bedroom. She let out a huff, dropping onto the bed, fingers fiddling with the exorbitant diamond on her finger. Her eyes drifted from the tv to the ring and she rolled her eyes, tugging it off and tossing it to the bedside table with a groan before she collapsed back into the pillows, staring at the ceiling. Both of their marriages were shams, but there was always something gnawing at Jackie knowing that Heather’s used to actually mean something. The only reason she stayed with Rob was the exact same reason Jackie married Allan, appearances. Both of the men knew what was going on with their wives, they had been open and upfront about everything from the start and they’d settled into the roles they needed to play with ease. It was exhausting, the constant playing pretend when the person you actually loved was across the table from you instead and this election was making everything feel like it was at a breaking point, there were more than a few days that Jackie felt like getting in the car driving away from it all, never wanting to set foot in Washington ever again.
Today was certainly starting to feel like one of those days.
Jackie curled around herself, shifting so she was at least partially under the covers and her eyes stared blankly at the television, not absorbing a single ounce of what was playing as her thoughts took over. She must have dozed off because the next thing she remembered was her phone buzzing on the bed next to her, ripping her from her dreamless sleep. She rubbed at her eyes, blinking a few times as she sat up against the headboard, swiping through notifications until she found the most recent, a text from Remy, the only person in the workplace she’d confided to about her true relationship.
‘How’d she take the kid thing?’
Jackie let out a weary sigh, her eyes flitting to the time displayed on the screen and realized it was already nearing eleven thirty. Her brow furrowed, wondering if Heather was still working, or if she was simply avoiding sleeping in the same bed as her. She tugged her lip into her mouth, chewing on it for a moment as she thought, her ears perking up to any noise coming from the other parts of the suite. Heather knew she would have to take a few digs at her, especially during the debate, hell, they’d even gone over subjects together, helped each other run through mock arguments in preparation. The only problem being that Underwood had done the same with Jackie, planting seeds in her words that would hopefully tip Heather off balance enough to be buried. She cursed herself for even getting on that plane in the first place, she should’ve known better than to align herself with the devil.
Pocketing her phone she slipped from under the covers, shivering at the chill running through the air as she began to move through the suite. A lamp was on in the living room, the tv on low volume, the evening news still covering the election, but it was the light coming from the second room Heather had made into an office that piqued her interest. Knowing how terse the other woman could get, she hung back in the doorway, softly knocking on the frame to not interrupt or annoy. Heather glanced up, her head tilting at Jackie wrapped around herself.
“I thought you’d gone to bed?”
“Too fucking cold to sleep.” She murmured, staying frozen on the spot, “can… I come in?”
Heather nodded, pulling off her glasses to set them on the desk in front of her as she pushed her chair back a bit, giving Jackie the permission and space to settle on her lap. The younger woman was nearly hesitant as she approached, but over the years the two of them had become very effective in non verbal communication, and she knew she was welcomed. She curled herself on Heather’s lap, head coming to rest on her shoulder, feeling Heather’s arm wind around her waist as she nuzzled into the embrace. Silence took over the room, even with Heather’s hand softly playing with Jackie’s hair, the buzz of awkwardness was floating through the cool air, neither of them quite sure where to start, neither of them having energy to even try to bicker much less fight. As always, it was Heather that broke the silence, knowing that Jackie had relinquished all control, any power she had held during her cold remarks during the debate vanishing into thin air the moment they retreated to their hotel suite.
“Do you really think I’m a terrible mother?” Her voice was barely above a whisper, and if Jackie had been listening harder she would have heard the slight tremble hiding behind her words.
“You know I don’t.” Jackie murmured, her head shifting so she could press gentle kisses to the other woman’s jaw between her words, “but I do think it’s about time to stop lying to them.”
“I wouldn’t classify this as lying.” Heather nearly scoffed.
“They’re going to figure it out eventually. You and Rob don’t sleep in the same room, and I’m over for dinner more nights than not.”
“You’re their godmother.” Heather let out a small hum at the feeling of Jackie’s lips meeting her jawline once again.
“Pretty sure that technically means I’m the caregiver if something happens to the two of you, not that I need to have weekly sleepovers.”
“Hmph.”
A silence fell over them again, the elephant in the room creeping closer and closer as they continued to avoid the topic. Finally Jackie spoke, ever the wounded bird, wanting to make sure she hadn’t damaged things too terribly, that she hadn’t sacrificed her love for political gain.
“I’m sorry about what I said during the debate.” She murmured, leaving a soft kiss just under Heather’s ear, “Underwood wanted me to play an angle… I didn’t want to, but the door opened and I ran with things without even thinking. I didn’t mean to bring the kids into things.”
“Your apology is accepted.” Heather replied softly, her lips finally meeting Jackie’s temple and the younger woman let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. “I’m sorry I fired back about your own kids.”
“But they’re not.” Jackie muttered, sighing softly, “they’re Allan’s, and I barely know them. I watched yours grow up…”
Heather took a breath, taking a moment to untangle all of her thoughts from the day, her hand softly ghosting up and down Jackie’s back.
“If we keep up like this… neither of us is going to win.”
“What do you mean?” Jackie felt her heart leap into her throat, her pulse skyrocketing as she pulled her head up from the crook of Heather’s neck, her eyes wide as she met her gaze.
“The election…” the older woman chuckled softly, recognizing her love’s panic, her hand stroking at her cheek gently. “You said it yourself; we can’t be on the same ticket; we need a southerner with a penis.”
“So?”
“Take Underwood’s offer.” Heather urged, “as long as you trust him enough to put you on the ticket, you drop out and endorse him.”
“And what about you?” Jackie’s blue eyes swam with worry as she gazed across at the other woman, her had coming up to cup her cheek and Heather simply shrugged.
“He wants me out of the race anyways. I can meet with him, tell him I want to take the chief justice position, put in a stipulation that I’m only stepping down if he puts you on the ticket, get the deal in writing.”
“What… about us?” She asked and this time Heather could feel the sadness weighing on the other woman’s shoulders, the way the misting in her eyes increased, scared that this was no longer what they started with, that she was about to be left on the steps of the White House like an abandoned puppy. Heather let out a weary sigh, her gaze dropping for a moment as she played with Jackie’s hand in her lap, not missing the fact that the other woman had taken off her wedding ring.
“Well… if you win… then it’s at least another four years of secrecy.” She finally looked back up at her, “there’s no way you’re going to win office and keep it while going through a divorce scandal, never mind coming out.”
“But I love you…” Jackie’s voice cracked, ducking her gaze before Heather tapped at her chin, tilting her head back up to hers.
“I know you do.” She leant in, leaving a feather light kiss on her lips, “and I love you just as much.”
“Then why can’t we just run away and forget about all of this?” She asked and Heather chuckled.
“Because I want you to succeed, you deserve a chance at this. And don’t you remember those silver spoon fed children of mine? I can’t just up and leave them before either of them have left for college, I’ve got a couple of years at best.” Jackie huffed a laugh, a smile finally breaking free on her lips at the teasing in Heather’s voice and she glanced up at the woman, a blush creeping onto her cheeks as she noticed the amount of adoration flowing from her hazel eyes.
“You’re not upset with me?” She asked meekly and Heather shook her head, tilting her gaze up to hers once more.
“No. Not anymore.” She let out a soft sigh, leaning back in her chair, “I’ll admit the moment you said it I felt betrayed, I turned things on full force to rebuttal. But after a bit of reflecting I remembered that we agreed this was going to be tricky. It already was but throwing a political race into things made everything even messier, and I am willing to step out of the race to make sure we don’t hurt each other and damage our political relationship thus drowning our personal one.” Jackie paused for a moment, her fingers daintily playing with Heather’s hand in hers while she digested what she had said.
“You… you would do that for me?”
“It wasn’t my first thought… and I still want this as much as ever, but I also love you…”
“So why not fight?”
“Because fighting for you is far more worth it.” Heather admitted, the warmth blooming in her chest and she knew Jackie felt the same, a small smile on her lips when she finally looked up at her once again. She let out a huff of a laugh, swiping away a tear from the corner of her sapphire eyes.
“I don’t want this the same way you do.” She admitted with a sniffle, “I kinda got swept up in the excitement of it all, I was merely a pawn for Underwood to do with as he pleased.”
“What’re you saying?” Heather raised a curious brow, her hand softly running up and down Jackie’s back.
“I’ll talk to him when we get home, say this isn’t going in the direction I wanted, that I’m dropping and want nothing to do with him.”
“Then what do you want?”
“You.” Jackie replied instantly, “always and forever you, and only you.” Her hand cupped Heather’s cheek, kissing her softly, “take the justice job. We can be somewhat out of the spotlight and finally actually be together. If…. If that’s what you want.” Her timidness always made Heather chuckle softly, pinching at her chin when she dared to duck her gaze.
“You know that’s I want that.” She leant up to steal a kiss, “I’ll talk to Rob and the kids when we get home, I’m sure it won’t be an issue. Pretty sure they’ve figured it out already anyways.”
“I told you!” Jackie laughed, this time for real, the smile reaching her eyes as she leant in for another kiss, humming happily against Heather’s lips. “You’re really okay with this?”
“Yes.” She beamed up at her, “I adore you, I love you, as much as taking the Oval would please me the only thing I really, truly want is a future with you. All this political bullshit has done nothing but drive wedges between us, make us walk on eggshells around each other only to come back to each other at the end of a long day. We’ve always searched for each other, found peace with one another and found forgiveness… and that’s something I never want to let go of.”
“Good. Because I love you more than anything in the entire world.”
“Good.” Heather kissed the tip of her nose, “now how about we get you back to bed, from what I hear it’s a little chilly and you could use some cuddles.”
Jackie laughed softly, a little squeak leaving her lips as Heather nudged her off her lap, nearly toppling her to the floor in the process. Heather pressed a kiss to her temple, squeezing at her waist a little tighter to remind her just how much she was loved, how no matter what went down in the work day, in the political field, that she was more important than any of that crap. That the show they put on was exactly that, a show, and it was what took place behind closed doors that actually mattered. Because that was where the two women were allowed to show off their affection, where they were allowed to be soft and gentle together and that truly was what they both adored the most.

A/N: This is Part 4, here's Part 3, here's Part 2, and We'll Always Need Each Other Part 1
-
Jay can only follow in helpless pursuit of Will and the paramedics as they move you to the ambulance. He feels Kim tug at his arm as she gently pries him away from the ambulance, you wouldn’t all fit. He and Will share a look, one that Will uses to convey “I’ll save her, don’t worry. It’s going to be okay.” It takes a reassuring nod from him for Jay to let the ambulance doors close, moving hastily to climb into the passenger's side of his own truck, silently handing Kim the keys. Too lost in his head to even make a quip about her having the special honour of driving his beloved GMC Sierra.
The drive is not even 7 minutes from Med, yet it’s the most eternal drive Will has ever experienced in the back of an ambulance. With you as stable as you could be in transit, he lets the paramedic in charge do the work as he grasps your cold hand in his warm ones. Eyeing the monitor intermittently between studying your face, you were still so young, your life shouldn’t have ever been so close to ending. Your hand seems more fragile and tiny than it ever has in his, even more than when you were a literal toddler whom he used to carry on his shoulders.
Taking in the stillness of your body he’s reminded of the last time he had seen you similar to this. Oddly, it makes him smile.
[Flashback]
“Will, hurry up, we’re going to be late!” You hollered from the living room.
“Alright, give me a second, Jay got the wrong size for this thing!” Will huffs from the bathroom, brushing his hair to suit the costume he was now stuffed into.
“This is ridiculous.” He mutters, shaking his head with a small chuckle, knowing how much you’d both hate and love his Halloween outfit.
He picks up his car keys and the two pumpkin buckets he had bought for collecting your candy. You were 15 but you were only growing to love Halloween more and more. This year District 21 was holding a party, and Jay had selected you and Will as a unified plus one. “Okay, alright. Let’s do this thing.”
Coming out to the living room he doesn’t see you, frowning in confusion as he could have sworn that’s where your voice had originated from. He doubles back to check in your room, only to find it empty.
“Y/N? Where are you, you goofball. Don’t you dare make me jump!”
He moves further into the living room, scanning carefully every conceivable nook and cranny before he spots a long object in front of the couch. A coffin.
He laughs now, heading towards the black vinyl box, giving it a courtesy knock before lifting the lid.
There you were, in stunningly realistic makeup, hollow cheeks, pale skin, fangs protruding from your mouth, a velvet suit and cape squished into the plush lining of the prop coffin you’d managed to find. He hadn’t even seen that thing before now, when the heck had you got into the apartment?
“You, you’re a creepy kid. And I love you for it. Good freaking job, short stuff!”
You crack an eye open, your luminous red lips turning up into a grin as you hold out a hand, waiting for Will to help you up and out of the coffin.
Springing to your feet you take in the sight of your big brother, snorting and chuckling as you realise what Jay had picked for him.
“Oh my god. Chucky? He got you a Chucky outfit? Dude, those dungarees are giving you a major wedgie. Nice job on the hair, you look SO weird, but awesome.”
“Don’t I know it, but it’ll do. And thanks, glad I could pass quality control.” He grins then falters into a grimace as he wiggles in his dungarees, a fake knife tucked into the front pocket. Bending to help you lift the coffin.
“I assume this is coming with us?”
“Duh!” You exclaim, swishing your cape as you grab one end to take down to Will’s car.
[End of Flashback]
Will gets Connor’s attention the second they’re through the ED doors with you, reeling off the injuries he knew about, had seen, had felt beneath his hands, knowing he couldn’t do anything for you now except wait. You had suffered extensive trauma, and the blood loss was the biggest concern. He almost can’t will himself to let go of you as they start to take an assessment of all your injuries, the bruises, the burns, the gunshot that takes him right back to when he thought you were both going to lose Jay. His legs feel leaden with dread.
Maggie appears quietly next to him, rubbing his back reassuringly, brows still furrowed in worry for you as she gently pulls your brother back out into the main hubbub of the ED. Connor is by your gurney’s side as they roll you out, looking at Will with a set expression of confidence and reassurance, “Will, I’ve got her, man. I’m gonna do everything.” He nods as he squeezes his friend’s shoulder. Will nods back, giving a weak smile of gratitude. Feeling like an extra limb was being pulled away from him as you disappear towards the elevator for emergency scans and the OR.
-
“Will!” Jay hollers, striding purposefully into the ED with Kim in tow, watching from afar to give your brothers some privacy. Will turns to face Jay, it’s only now that the adrenaline wears off. Seeing Jay also covered in your blood somehow brought it all into stark clarity that you were fighting for your life right now. He loved you and Jay more than anything, and he couldn’t have one without the other. Knowing Jay would be equally as crushed if… if… well, he couldn’t and wouldn't finish the thought.
Jay pulls Will out of his reverie with a gentle hand on his elbow, his voice is quiet. He needs to ask the question, but afraid of what Will's professional eyes might show.
“Is she, will she-” Will’s head drops, he didn’t know, these things could go one way or the other. They both knew that all too well.
Will clears his throat, looking down at his blood-stained hands and forearms. “She’s… she’s in good hands, Jay. Connor’s hands. If anyone can bring her through, it's him and his team.” The detective follows Will's gaze, his stomach churning as he realises he's matching too, with smears of now dried reddish-brown on his skin.
Maggie is one to help at all times, but there had always been something about you three Halsteads she took a shine to. She can't help but feel protective of your brothers at the moment, “Come on boys, let's get you cleaned up. Then you can wait upstairs…”
-
Your brothers scrub thoroughly at their skin, watching in silence as it swirls into the sinks. An unspoken fear and grief settled into their bones. It’s Jay that speaks first.
“Will, I just want you to know that-”
“Jay, please… please don’t be sorry anymore, you didn’t do this to her, they were always going to take her because they’re animals. He was an animal. You found her, we got her, that’s what I care about. I care about her being here with us until we’re old and need her to wheel us around.”
“You found her,” Jay states, a proud glint in his eyes.
“What?” Will knew on the surface he had got the ball rolling, but he knew very well he wouldn’t be able to take out hostile men with guns, even if he would try for you.
“You found her with that poster. And I won’t let you forget it, man. I didn’t know how I was going to live with myself if we didn’t figure it out in time.” Jay looks down, it’s not a secret that Jay tended to harbour guilt about anything and everything, he was his own worst punisher.
“But we did, okay?” Will reaches forward, bringing Jay into an embrace he has been long overdue.
He wouldn’t mention it out loud, but Will could feel the gentle shake of Jay’s body, the adrenaline wearing off for him too now.  “Please, just let me help you. Let us be there for you, and we gotta be there for her, in every way now.” Jay nods into Will’s shoulder, holding him tighter for a moment. Will brings a hand to Jay’s hair, the back of his head, rubbing comfortingly like he used to when Jay had nightmares.
"I wanna get better, Will. I'm going to get better." Jay exhales, redness around his eyes from tears constantly threatening to fall, weakly laughing off his vulnerability.
Will gives him one last squeeze, "I know you'll do it, Jay. You always do." Will offers a smile, his own eyes watery too, still holding onto Jay’s arm in reassurance.
“Come on, let’s change out. We can get you some scrubs.” On any other day Jay might complain about the selection of attire available to him, but today he was desperate to get upstairs and wait for Connor to come out of your surgery with the news. He nods, offering a quiet, “Thanks, man.” as Will leads him to the locker room.
-
Will had gotten up early for his shift at Med before all hell had broken loose, so now it was more than understandable that no amount of worry and watchfulness could stop him from dozing off in the waiting room chair, arms folded over his chest, leaning against Jay’s side in the mild bustle of patients and doctors.
Jay sits staring at the wall opposite, eyes burning with the same exhaustion that Will had but unable to switch off. A habit from the Rangers that sometimes reared its ugly head, the training to stay awake even when you didn’t want to.
He thinks of the argument from a few nights ago, the callousness of his words. He knew they held no truth, yet he had delivered them as gospel. The hurt in your expression, the look of someone who had lost the battle to save someone they care about. He rubs a hand over his face, gathering his thoughts bit by bit. He had been losing himself, it was time to come back.
As he shifts in his chair, Will still remains a heavy lump against his side, he feels a sensation on his wrist. A featherlight tickling. Glancing down his heart skitters with nerves, he traces his fingers over the braided bracelet you had made for him after Erin’s departure. It was an "I'm sorry you got ghosted, don't forget your pain in the ass sister loves you" gift. Your words, not his.
The bracelet was comprised of his favourite colours and beads that had the letters “Y/F/I”, “W”, and “J” interspersed in the braiding. He hadn’t taken it off since the day it was handed to him. Now it had a few patches of your blood on it, something he'd have to figure out cleaning when you all got home. Salty tears stung his eyes, you were his sunshine, his reason to wake up on days that might have otherwise kept him bedridden and hopeless, you were his reason to fight every case with the same energy and tenacity, to be your someone to look up to was his point of pride. He could only offer a prayer to anyone listening that you still saw him that way when you woke up.
-
The sound of double doors opening snaps Jay awake, spine straightening abruptly as he catches his bearings, realising that he and Will had switched roles at some point. Jay blinks, about to ask how long he was out for as he swipes at an ever so slight amount of drool from his face.
“Hey, Connor’s coming.” Will nods in his direction, both of your brothers getting to their feet in an instant, Will already trying to read the surgeon’s expression.
“Connor.”
“Hey guys… so, she had a tough time in there, the blood loss was significant. I don't want to sugarcoat anything... so, she did code, but we got her back and we repaired the damage without complications. She’s stable and I’m confident of a full recovery. Though the psychological aspects of this will be difficult, so I’ve already asked that Dr Charles assess her in a few days once she’s had some time.”
Both your brothers’ stomachs drop at the words “she did code” but ultimately you were still here with them and you were going to be okay, in time they would see to it that you felt safe and like you could carry on with your life.
Will claps his hand on Connor’s shoulder, “Thank you so much, Connor.”
Jay offers a hand to shake, “Connor, man, I owe you big.”
Connor shakes his head, waving them away, “Come on, you know I love that kid like she was my sister too. I’m just so glad she’s here. I know you’ll want to see her, so let me just check she’s settled in her room, and then I’ll take you.”
-
Approaching your room your brothers take in the sight of you, you were still pale, marks from where you had been beaten covered your skin, your leg was strapped up, various drips hanging by your bedside, the steady rhythm of your heart on the monitor. You were safe, you were healing, you were alive.
“Oh, Y/N…” Will murmurs, taking up a chair on one side of the bed, instantly reaching around the tubes to take your hand again, the pressure in his chest easing as he feels the increased warmth of your skin compared to the last time.
Jay approaches slowly like you’d snap up in your bed and tell him to leave. But nothing happens, you remain peacefully asleep and he allows himself to sit in the other chair on the opposite side to Will. Lifting a soothing hand to your forehead, stroking the edges of your hair.
“Sunshine.”  He speaks softly and brings your other hand up to kiss your palm. “I love you so much, and I’m going to spend every day looking for your forgiveness. You hear me? I am so sorry, Y/N. I just want you to be well again, I need you, I’ll always need you. I want you to know that.” He keeps your hand in his, eyeing Will who looks at him sympathetically.
“That goes to you too, brother. I mean it.”
“Man, I thought we already established that I forgive you. Stop beating yourself already, we’re a family again, that’s all I care about.”
“Mhm… I ag–ree…” Your brothers snap their heads in your direction, seeing bleary eyes looking back at them and a dopey medicated smile.
“Y/N!” Will exclaims in a hushed, excited, tone.
“Will.” You wiggle your fingers in his hand ever so slightly, appreciating his kind face as though it could disappear and you’d be right back in that room again. After a beat, you find yourself satisfied that this was reality and that you had your big brothers to thank for that.
“That… sucked. Ngh…” Your eyes flutter against the sleepiness.
Will glances at the monitor, keeping an ever-watchful eye on your vitals, “How’s the pain, Y/N?”
You giggle with a wince at your redheaded brother, “Oh, I’m on cloud nine, my dude. Don’t even worry about it.” You smirk, taking slow breaths, getting used to the post-surgery feeling. Blinking a few more times you graciously accept the slow sips of water that Will offers, licking your dry lips. A moment passes and it’s like somebody cleaned the fog over your eyes, things feel somewhat clearer.
“Mhm, that’s better. You’re the real you.” You remark towards Will.
He raises his eyebrows, “The real me?”
You grimace, realising you hadn’t meant to give away that information. Stomach protesting nervously as you recall the terrible sensation of hallucinating.
“You were a hallucination at one point today, not my most favourite thing when you wanna be rescued. I gotta say.”
Will’s face drops a little, so utterly sad that you had to go through any of this. He squeezes your fingers a little more, reassuring you of his realness. “Well, this is very real now, kiddo. Don’t you worry, alright?”
You hum, giving a slight nod, through your medicated fog you realise you haven’t yet addressed Jay. You turn your stiff neck, exhaling as you take in your other brother’s face too.
“Hey, kid.” Jay greets, looking a little pensive as he waits for your reaction to him.
You reach out with the arm that isn't strapped to your side, taking a second to trace your fingers over Jay's face. "You're real too. That's nice."
Jay doesn't know whether to laugh or cry, taking your hand and holding it in his. He barely even moves his mouth to speak before you give a negative sound, stopping him.
"Nuh-uh."
"What?" He plays along.
"We're not playing the 'Jay feels a crazy amount of guilt' game. You were an asshole to me, yeah. But if you think for one second that after all of that I'm not going to be relieved to see you? You might as well be the one fruit loopin' on morphine."
Jay drops his head, holding on to your hands like a lifeline.
"Jay, look at me." He lifts his head, giving you his full attention.
"You were hurting, I knew that. That's why I tried so hard in the first place... Will and I, we love you beyond belief. And we know you love us the same. So please, just promise you'll let us help you, that's all I want to hear about it."
He swallows, nodding, sparing Will a glance too. Seeing pride and affection there in his brother's eyes, Will was in awe of your selflessness.
"I promise, Y/N."
"Good." You exhale, starting to feel sleepy again.
"Now, before I take another drug nap. I know what I just said, and I stand by it...but Jay, you were a massive dick to me the other night, so like... I would like some sort of compensation... maybe you can take some furlough and we can play an unholy amount of video games and eat trash?"
Jay chuckles, shaking his head. "I'm sure that can be arranged, I was gonna take time off to look after you anyways. Will too."
You look to Will with glee, and then back to Jay.
"And maybe you can finally check the budget for splitting the cost on that new art tablet I wanted?" You give him your best puppy-dog pleading face, sure that you probably looked deranged with how fast sleep was approaching.
Jay raises his eyebrows, still smiling at your willingness to strike on the opportunity.
"I think we can consider that, yeah. I'm sure Will would be delighted to help, wouldn't you, bud?"
Will glares in Jay's direction, making you giggle as you feel the warm haze of slumber find you again, mumbling "Suckers." as your eyes finally close.
-

All it took was a hunt that made Dean make a choice. A hunt where a demon had successfully gained the upper hand on both Sam and I, holding a gun to each of our heads, giving Dean an ultimatum: save Sam, or save me.
In my heart, I knew what he was going to say. After he tried to make a deal with the demon first, of course. Telling the demon to shove it only made the barrel of the guns dig into mine and Sam’s temples harder and telling the demon to take him instead of one of us only made the demon laugh.
In the end, Dean was faced with a choice. Both siblings, who he’d raised since we were kids. His brother, who shared the exact same DNA as him. And his sister, who only shared half.
“Sam,” Dean whispered, after he knew he’d run out of options. I knew what he’d say from the beginning, but it didn’t mean it didn’t hurt any less.
“Dean, no.” Sam breathed out, his eyes wide. Dean clenched and unclenched his jaw, tears falling.
The demon let out a horrible laugh as he pushed Sam toward Dean, the gun coming around to the back of my head. Sam and Dean the only people in my line of sight. I breathed a shaky breath. I was ready.
“Stop!” Sam pleaded.
I closed my eyes, letting my own tears fall as I opened them again, giving Sam a small nod, “It’s okay.”
I braced myself for the shot, nearly jumping out of my skin when a scream rang out behind me. I quickly pulled away, the demon behind me falling to the floor, dead, revealing Cas who stood behind him.
I felt like I was going to be sick. Slowly, I picked up my gun that’d been kicked across the floor during the fight between us and the demon, quietly making my way out of the warehouse as Sam called after me.

The ride back to the motel was silent. None of us saying a word the entire 45 minutes it took to get back. Once the car was thrown into park I was already jumping out of the car, running toward the motel room as I threw it open.
Snagging my duffel bag from under the bed I began to pack my things, stuffing in everything I could.
“Y/N, stop.” Sam said, his voice cracking as they followed me into the room.
“I’m sorry, Sammy.” I said, pushing past Dean to get to the bathroom, grabbing my toothbrush before throwing it in the bag.
Dean put a hand on my shoulder to stop my frantic packing but I shoved it off, “Y/N, I’m sorry...I- I didn’t know what to do.”
Suddenly, I stopped, turning to look at them, “Look me in the eye, and tell me you need me.” I said, my lip quivering with unshed tears as I watched my brothers.
“Of course we need you-” Sam began but I cut him off, only looking at Dean now.
“I want to hear it from you.”
Dean swallowed roughly, tears pooling in his eyes, “I need you.”
I huffed, my arms falling to my sides as I looked up at them, tears brimming my eyes as my chest rose and fell heavily with the effort of not letting it all out then and there.
“I get it...I’m not your real sister.”
“You are.” Dean shot back, his voice cracking but I only shook my head.
“I’m not.” I wiped a tear that fell down my cheek as I looped the duffel bag strap over my shoulder.
“Where are you going?”
I stopped at the doorway, no words coming to mind at how heartbroken I felt, not able to look back as I just kept walking.

Bad Feeling
Pairing: Matt Casey x Reader
Requested: yes by anon
Summary: Matt gets an uneasy feeling, which intensifies when he spots Y/N's car at the scene of a multi-vehicle accident.
Tumblr media
Square Filled: Hurt/Comfort for #resa.3kfiestabingo
Word Count: 1,324
Warnings: canon-typical mentions of car accidents, injuries
A/N: Some hurt/comfort that has been sitting in my drafts for too long! Also, I'm gonna start tagging my oc (child) characters!
MATT CASEY MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Matt glanced at his phone, the lack of response to his message concerning him just a little. "Get a grip, Matt, maybe she’s driving.” He muttered at himself, just as the bells went off.
All units, Multi-vehicle accident.
With no other time to let his mind wander, Matt hurried towards the truck, nodding at Stella as the sirens sounded and the trucks hurried towards the address that dispatch had given them. But it wasn’t until Stella pulled the truck over at a distance away from the crash that Matt felt an irrational bad feeling blossom in his chest.
Matt pushed the feeling aside as he got out of the truck, wondering what the hell was wrong with him today. But he didn’t have long to be distracted as they immediately got to work.
He’d just sent most of them off in pairs when he spotted it - the flash of color, the partial license plate that sent his heart down to his stomach, the realization that the bad feeling was no longer irrational, while there was a crashing in his ears.
Stella spotted the car almost at the same time that Matt did, her head swiveling back to look at her Captain, but Matt was already on the move, gripping the tool he had in his hand tighter as he avoided people and vehicles alike, before he got there.
“Y/N!”
The car was lying on its side and Matt got on his knees to peer in, his heart thumping hard against his chest even though he’d done this a million times before.
“Alex?”
His four year old blinked back at him, looking alert and Matt’s eyes left Alex just for a second to glance at where you were motionless in the driver's seat up front.
“Hey buddy, you okay?” Matt said, peering in at his son.
“Daddy?”
Matt nodded back at Alex. “Listen, I need you to stay still alright?”
“You get me?” Alex asked, although he didn’t move as his father had instructed, continuing to lie on his stomach.
“Yes, I’m coming to get you, alright? Does anything hurt?"
Alex shook his head slowly and Matt nodded again. “Will you be a brave boy?”
He nodded quietly and Matt turned his attention towards you with a nod at Kelly.
Matt could hear Kelly talking to Alex, so he headed towards the front of the car. “Y/N, can you hear me?”
Matt glanced at Sylvie when you didn’t respond, the unease written all over his face.
“Casey, we got this.” Stella assured him, as the rest of the team worked even faster now, the loud sounds of their tools seeming to overwhelm the sounds of the other truck sirens that were coming to help.
As Cruz pulled off the back door, Kelly reached in for Alex, who was more than happy to wriggle his way towards his favorite uncle.
Kelly pulled Alex into his arms, his eyes raking the little boy for any sign of injuries before Violet reached them to check him out, Violet then bringing Alex straight to Matt.
“Hey buddy.” Matt said, keeping his voice low even as his eyes darted towards where Stella and Mouch were working on getting you out.
Matt felt the fear spread throughout his body even as he propped Alex into his arms. “He just has a few scratches and he’s fine but we should still go to Med.” Violet told Matt, as if she knew he needed a distraction.
Matt smiled. “Thanks, Violet.”
He offered Alex a reassuring smile, turning his body at an angle so that Alex couldn’t see them lift you out of the car.
Stella looked up with a small shake of her head.
You still weren’t responsive.
“Matt, you can come with us. We should get Alex checked out too.” Sylvie said. With a silent nod from Boden, Matt climbed in after you, reaching forward for your hand quietly, Alex sitting in his lap.
Tumblr media
The hardest part for Matt was juggling a toddler and being worried for you, like Matt had to choose between being a father or a husband, when he was both.
You’d been wheeled straight into a treatment room with Connor and Ethan assuring that you were in good hands, while Maggie directed him into a room with Dylan.
“Hey. I’m Dylan. You must be Alex.”
Alex glanced up at Matt who gave him an encouraging nod and Alex smiled back at Dylan.
As Dylan spoke to Alex and checked him out, Matt found his eyes wandering towards the treatment you were in, the hurried movements from across the ED not comforting at all. But he couldn’t leave his son here to go check on you.
“Case.”
Matt heard his best friend’s voice first before he registered his presence.
“Why don’t you go check on her?” Kelly said, reading his thoughts immediately, recalling the time Stella had been brought in. “Alex and I can hang out. What do you say?”
“Yeah!” Alex’s excitement when it came to Kelly had never come more in handy.
“Thanks, Sev.” Matt said, Kelly patting him on the shoulder.
Before he left, Matt pressed a quick kiss on his son's head. "I'll be right back." But Alex didn't seem too bothered, distracted by Kelly and Dylan.
Matt hurried across the ED, just as Connor came out from the treatment room. “Casey, good. I need to bring her up to surgery, alright? There’s some broken bones and she’s bleeding internally. I need to go in and stop the bleeding. Can I do that?”
Matt nodded quickly. “Whatever you have to do, Connor. I…”
Connor nodded back. “Casey, I got her.”
Matt leaned over to give your hand a squeeze, even though you still didn’t seem to be conscious. “Alex and I will be right here, baby.” He whispered, before they quickly wheeled you off.
Tumblr media
When you become conscious of your surroundings once again, you were confused at first. Your vision swam for a bit before the ceiling became clearer and your brain registered the smell that could mean you were only in one place - the hospital.
“Y/N?”
You blinked, angling your head to the side as Matt shot out of the chair he was in. You could feel the warmth of his hand and you smiled, your fingers closing around his until the memory of how you got here hit you like it had just happened.
You exhaled sharply and Matt stiffened, frowning.
“Alex. Matt, Alex he… he was in the backseat. He…”
“Shh.” Matt squeezed your hand tighter. “It’s okay. Alex is fine, alright? Kelly just brought him out to get a snack. But he’s fine. Dr Scott looked him over. He had a few scratches but that was it. Breathe.”
Relief flooded your system now as your body relaxed, only the pain left throbbing through your system.
But at least Alex was safe. That was something.
Matt sighed, his hand going to the top of your head as he leaned in and pressed a kiss to your forehead. “Thank god.” He whispered.
The whisper brought with it the unease and fear he’d been holding on to ever since he’d spotted your car lying on its side in the middle of the road.
“Sorry.” You whispered back, as Matt looked back down at you, as if he was afraid to take his eyes off you.
Matt shook his head with a small smile. “I’m just glad you’re okay.”
He looked like he wanted to say something more before he was interrupted by Kelly and Alex coming back in. “Mama!”
You smiled, as Matt took Alex from Kelly’s arms.
“Hey you.” Kelly said, leaning in for a gentle hug.
“Thanks Uncle Kelly.” You answered, smiling as Kelly gave you an affectionate tap.
Matt lowered Alex onto your bed where he gently cuddled into your side and Matt just smiled, before he leaned in to put the both of you into his embrace.

STELLARIDE MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You looked up from where you’d been playing with the food on your plate, only to catch Stella smile at your father who was sitting next to you.
Resisting the urge to make a face, you turned to look at him. “Can I be excused?”
Kelly gave a small sigh and turned to look at you, looking like he wanted to say something and then deciding against it, merely nodding. “Yeah, go on.”
You gave his girlfriend a last withering look before you took your plate back into the kitchen.
Kelly suppressed an audible sigh before he looked back at Stella. “Sorry.”
Stella smiled and shook her head. “She just needs some time.”
You rolled your eyes and headed back to your room, plopping yourself down on your bed and staring up at your ceiling.
It wasn’t really that you didn’t like Stella. Hell, you’d been okay with her before you found out she was dating your father.
As far as daughters went, you were sure that you were at least three times more protective over your father than your classmates were about their own parents.
Maybe it had something to do with the fact that you only ever had Kelly growing up. You’d overheard countless discussions about people telling him that it was hard being a single parent especially with his job but whatever anyone said, and however Kelly had felt from the first time he’d found out he’d had a daughter and come to get you, Kelly had stuck it out with you.
Over the years, especially once you were older, you’d seen many girlfriends come and go - some didn’t want commitment, some ran the moment they found out about you, some just… didn’t make it. It didn’t matter that Kelly had seemed fine with everything. You were not, so all that had done was make you even more protective over him.
So when you’d found out about Stella, you’d felt your hackles raise.
Logically, you knew Stella had done nothing to deserve this but your 15 year old brain couldn’t seem to override the emotion with logic.
You lay there for a while more until there was a knock on your door and Kelly poked his head in.
“Hey kiddo. Can we talk?”
You sat up but didn’t give him an answer because you knew very well what he wanted to talk about and you weren’t sure you wanted to hear it.
Kelly came in anyway, pulling out the chair at your desk and sitting across from you.
“Will you give Stella a break?”
You looked up with a look of protest and Kelly held up a hand.
“I know.” Kelly said in a low voice, giving you a small smile to show you he wasn’t mad. “Just lighten up a little and give her a chance. That’s all I’m asking.”
You didn’t say anything but Kelly let out a chuckle as you pursed your lips. “Go easy.”
He pressed a kiss to the top of your head before patting your hair affectionately and leaving the room.
Tumblr media
You pulled your jacket tighter around you, glancing behind you.
You hadn’t meant to let it get so late but you’d gotten a little too immersed in your notes and lost track of time. Other than the wind blowing against your back and making you shiver, you hadn’t realized how quiet the road from your friend’s house was.
You kind of regretted not calling Kelly to come and get you, but you also didn’t relish the idea of waiting here so you’d forged on, telling yourself you’d walked this street thousands of times.
But now, you were pretty sure someone was following you, hearing the echoing footsteps behind you.
Damn it.
Your hands that were jammed into your pockets closed around your phone but you were also worried things would escalate so you picked up your pace instead.
You heard the footsteps behind you match the increase in your speed and just as you thought you should break into a run, you were yanked backwards and unable to maintain your balance, you tumbled onto the concrete pavement, feeling the concrete scrape against your skin.
Your head snapped upwards, feeling your heart fall straight into your gut when you looked back into the face of the man that now towered over you.
It was a stranger, not a face you remembered seeing, but his lips ticked upwards in a smile that flipped your stomach over and your gut feeling as well as every nerve in your body was screaming at you to get up and run.
Flight.
You scrambled to your feet, slowly moving backwards as he now stepped towards you. His movements had slowed, like a predator that had just cornered his prey.
He took another step towards you and with well chosen timing, you brought your knee up swiftly, just like how Kelly had taught you.
Winded, the man bent over but not before letting out a growl.
You didn’t stick around long enough to find out what he had to say, your legs already moving before your brain realized you were running.
The wind blowing against you was painful but you didn’t dare stop because you weren’t sure if he was on your heels.
You turned the corner, sparing a glance back and collided straight into someone.
“Sorry.” You panted, glancing up.
“Y/N?” Stella looked surprised to see you before her expression switched to one of concern. “What’s wrong?”
Stella glanced up at the empty street behind you and then looked back at you. “You okay?”
You really didn’t have the energy for anything else. You just really needed an adult. You glanced up at her without talking and Stella reached for your hand.
When you didn’t pull away, Stella squeezed. “Do you want me to take you home?”
You shook your head quickly. “No. Wait. I just… I don’t want Dad to see me like this.”
Stella studied you for just a second more before she nodded. “My apartment’s just around the corner. Why don’t you come and have something at my place and we can talk? If you want to.”
You hesitated for just a second but you were still kind of spooked so you nodded, letting her lead you back down from where she came from, not even realizing your hand was still in hers.
Tumblr media
Stella wasn’t exaggerating when she said her apartment was around the corner.
Within five minutes, you were seated on Stella’s couch, a cup of hot tea in your hands while you found yourself telling her what happened.
It was weird - you’d expected Stella to maybe pat your shoulders a little to reassure you that things would be fine before trying to convince you to call Kelly so he could come and get you. She wouldn't be the first girlfriend to hand you back over to your father as soon as she could.
But the emotions on Stella’s face as you told her were new to you - looks of concern, before outrage and then… if you didn’t know any better, you’d think she was upset.
You fell quiet after a while and Stella scooted a little closer to you.
“Alright, Y/N, listen.” Stella said and you looked up at her. “We have to report this.”
You looked back down again, your index fingers twirling together even though you were still holding the mug.
“I’ll come with you.” Stella paused. “If you’ll let me.”
You looked up again and nodded quietly. "You… You’d do that?”
You registered a look of surprise on Stella’s face before she next spoke. “Of course, Y/N.”
“Can we not call my dad yet?”
There was a small silence and you held back a sigh. You knew what would happen if your father found out about this. Other than the fact that you hated making him worry and that you knew things might get blown up out of proportion with practically everyone getting involved, it was kind of awkward talking to him about some stuff.
Stella glanced at you. “How about we take things one step at a time?”
You bit your lip and Stella nodded encouragingly at you. “Let’s go to the district and then when you’re ready, we can call Kelly alright?”
You nodded quietly, taking another sip of tea before Stella smiled. “Ready?”
You got up and Stella grabbed an extra coat off her coat hanger, draping it around your shoulders.
Tumblr media
Stella had been told to wait outside while you gave your statement to the uniformed police officer sitting across from you but you were regretting this with each question the officer asked you.
“What were you doing out so late?”
“Is this what you normally wear to school?
You were done with the insinuations in his voice and tone. You were 15, not an idiot. You knew exactly where this was going and you’d been around your father’s friends long enough to pick some stuff up.
You stood all of a sudden, the nails digging into your palms in an effort not to let the angry tears out. “I’m not answering any more questions.”
“What do you…”
You didn’t let him finish his sentence, opening the door and stalking out.
As promised, Stella was right outside, glancing up as you walked out, reading the expression on your face instantly.
“You okay?”
You pulled Stella’s jacket tighter around yourself. “I just want to go home.”
Stella frowned, glancing up at the officer that was now outside the room as well. “You still have to answer a few questions. You can’t just…”
You didn’t move and Stella looked back down at you. “Y/N?”
“He hasn’t asked me a single question about what happened.” You said in a low voice, focusing only on Stella now. “No questions about how the man looked, what street this took place on, how he sounded.”
Stella frowned. Those were enough for her to put together a few pieces of the puzzle.
“Those are necessary questions. We need to know if…”
“Kidd. Y/N.”
You glanced up at a familiar face and Stella patted your back. “Told you I got you.” She whispered in a low voice so only you could hear.
Stella nodded with a smile at Hailey.
Telling the officer she’d take over, Hailey led you back into the room and smiled encouragingly at you.
“Stella called me. Will you tell me what happened?”
It was easier than you’d expected to talk to Hailey but even as you told her what happen, you found yourself internally steeling yourself for a lecture of some sort and you suddenly just really wished Kelly was here.
But Hailey offered no lecture or talking-to. Instead, she treated you like an adult, taking down the information you offered, her questions only revolving around important information she obviously needed, before she closed the book.
“Thank you, Y/N. Here.” Hailey handed you a small bottle and a small device. “Pepper spray and a small panic button.”
You looked up a little surprised and Hailey smiled. “If nothing, maybe it’ll help you feel safer.”
You nodded, keeping the things she handed you and Hailey came around and squeezed your shoulder before taking you out of the room again where Stella was waiting.
“Dad must be worried, I…”
Stella shook her head with a smile. “I told him you’re with me so he wouldn’t. I can call him if you’re ready.”
You felt involuntary tears well up in your eyes before you nodded. "Can you? I... I think I really need him."
Kelly was here in record time, running up the steps of the district as if he’d been waiting nearby in the first place but you didn’t care. The rush of relief and safety when you saw him made you wonder why you hadn’t gone to him immediately anyway.
“Y/N!”
You didn’t say anything, merely shooting off your seat to dive into your father’s arms like you were a child once again.
“You okay? Let me see.” Kelly pulled away just a little to look at you but other than remnants of the startled look in your eyes and new tears ready to spill over, you weren’t really hurt.
Kelly gently pulled you back into his arms and exhaled. “Thank god.”
He was never one for long verbal communications of how much he loved you but you didn’t really need him to tell you. This was even more apparent now as you were huddled in your father’s arms in the middle of a police district.
“You must be starving.” Kelly said after a while, looking down at you to wipe a stray tear off your face. “Why don’t we go get something to eat, hmm?”
You gave a small crooked smile and Kelly looked up, meeting Stella’s eyes.
“I’ll call you tomorrow.” Kelly said with a small apologetic smile at Stella. “Thank you.”
Stella nodded, but you interrupted them. “You’re not coming to eat with us?”
Kelly raised his eyebrows.
“Thought I’d give you two some private time.” Stella said, although she seemed to be weighing the look in your eyes now.
You shrugged. “You can come eat with us, too.”
Kelly glanced between his girlfriend and daughter. “Did something happen?”
You shrugged, lowering your voice. “She’s alright I guess.”
Kelly chuckled, swinging an arm around your shoulders as he led you out of the district. Stella fell into step on your other side and you smiled up at her. “Thank you.” You whispered, fully aware your father could hear you.
Stella smiled. “Thank you, too.”
Kelly just smiled at both his girls as the three of you walked down the empty streets. Together.
