Word Count: 1.5K+

A/N: I know I haven't written in months so starting off slow/small to see if maybe I haven't lost my touch... also @halsteadlover may have threatened me to post this.
JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You glanced at the last message Jay had sent you a few hours earlier and smiled.
You got this.
Three simple words that somehow warmed your heart even though you were miles away in another city.
You rarely had to travel for work even though you’d worked as a translator at this company for some time. You mostly dealt with inbound foreign clients who came to Chicago but this time, they’d needed a translator for a conference outside Chicago and you were the only available one. Thankfully, it wasn’t too far so you didn’t even have to take a flight and the company had arranged for a car for you to get there.
Which was all too well, since Jay had also had his hands full and had to go undercover for a few days.
So it was even more heartwarming to see the message from Jay when you hadn’t really been expecting a reply.
Even though you had only seen the message after the conference, it still felt comforting to feel the last dredges of work nerves and anxiety leave your system.
“Y/N, come on.” One of your colleagues from another team called out to you and you stuffed your phone back into your pocket, before following her toward the private room of the restaurant where you were all supposed to be having dinner with a huge client.
You didn’t even like having social dinners with people you weren’t close with, not to mention dinners like this.
Dinner had barely started when you were proven right.
“Thanks to your team, the conference went very well.” The client smiled, looking around. “Of course, we have to thank Y/N for ensuring all communication went smoothly.”
You’d just smiled when you felt his hand slide onto yours from under the table and the smile froze on your face.
Instinctively, you pulled your hand away, bringing your hand up to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear and grabbing your jacket from behind you and draping it around you, smiling.
“Just doing my job, Mr. Saunders.”
You saw the look on his face and knew he’d taken offense, ridiculous as it was.
You chose to ignore it, pretending like nothing had happened. After all, he’d probably have gotten the hint.
He hadn’t.
The client made a few more passes at you - a hand on your knee, trying to take your hand again, and the most outrageous one was holding up food to feed you in front of everyone.
The action wasn’t lost on everyone who was there but no one spoke up.
You swallowed. “I’ll help myself.”
It was like something snapped in him and he glanced at you coldly and said, “Guess if you’re not hungry, you should go out and wait for everyone to finish.”
You glanced helplessly at your team manager who gave you a look to ask you not to make things worse than they already were.
You gritted your teeth but bit back any sort of response, getting up and leaving the room, a mix of anxiety, humiliation, self-doubt, and every other negative emotion swirling in the pit of your stomach.
Tumblr media
Jay sighed, stretching as he sat up from the couch.
The apartment was uncharacteristically quiet since you were away for work.
Jay looked up at the clock. It was slightly past 10 which was weird because he hadn’t heard back from you.
Getting up to get himself a glass of water, Jay glanced at his messages before he decided he’d try and call. Even if you were still with your colleagues, you could probably still answer the phone since the conference was over.
There were two rings before you answered.
“Hey, still having fun with your colleagues?”
There was a slight pause before you answered.
“Jay.”
Jay frowned, immediately picking up on the fact that something was wrong.
“Y/N? What’s going on? You okay?”
Jay’s voice was gentle and so comforting, you felt the prick of tears again.
You cleared your throat. Honestly, crying on the street in the middle of the night was the last thing you wanted to do. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
“Have you eaten?” Jay’s worried voice sounded through the phone.
You smiled to yourself even as a tear escaped and slid down your cheek.
“Yeah, told you there was good food waiting for me after the conference.”
“Y/N, what’s wrong?” Jay pressed.
You shook your head even though he couldn’t see you. “I’m fine. I just… miss you.” You managed to keep your voice steady.
“I’ll come and get you,” Jay answered.
“Jay, it’s late and you probably haven’t had enough sleep for the past few days. I’ll take the earliest bus out to Chicago tomorrow.”
You heard the reluctance in his voice even though he agreed and after reassuring him not to worry, you hung up.
The wind felt even colder now as you sat by the side of the road, your carrier bag sitting next to you.
Technically you had another night at the hotel but you hadn’t felt like staying there for even a second longer. Other than the fact that the client knew exactly which room you were in, your team manager had left a message for you berating you for how you’d handled the situation which made you even more disgusted than you already were.
You didn’t know how long you sat there but as you felt it turn colder you thought you should get up and maybe find somewhere else to sit for the night. You didn’t care if you had to sit up all night at a 24-hour cafe but you weren’t going back to the hotel.
You’d barely gotten to your feet, reaching for your carrier when a familiar truck pulled up right before you.
You froze, as Jay appeared right before you like magic.
“Jay… you…”
Jay’s green eyes appeared even brighter than usual as he looked at you with a mix of exasperation and worry. “I came to take you home.”
You’d clearly been sitting out here for longer than you thought, but it didn't matter because when Jay finished speaking you felt the tears well up in your eyes as the security that Jay always made you feel flooded through your entire body and finally gave you enough courage to cry.
Jay stepped forward, wordlessly enveloping you into his arms.
You dissolved into sobs as you felt his arms around you and he pressed you gently into his embrace, his hand over the back of your head protectively. Jay didn’t say anything, just standing there quietly with you in his arms until your sobs gently died down.
"I…”
Jay pressed his lips against your temple and whispered, “Let’s go home.”
Jay didn’t ask you anything on the way home, and you must have fallen asleep because the next thing you knew Jay was pulling into the parking lot in front of your building and your stomach gave a tiny rumble as Jay killed the engine.
You glanced at him and Jay just let out a chuckle.
“Come on, I’ll order us a pizza and you can get comfortable.”
Tumblr media
By the time you got out of the shower, the pizza was here and you got comfortable on the sofa as Jay handed you a slice and curled in next to you.
You didn’t say anything and Jay didn’t push you as you finished your first slice before you glanced up at him.
“I’m sorry.” You said in a low voice.
Jay raised an eyebrow.
“You must be exhausted.” You added.
There was a silence which made you look up and you felt the rare surge of insecurity from not being able to read the look on Jay’s face.
“Did you think I’d be able to go to sleep when I could hear how upset you were?” Jay said quietly. “Y/N, listen. You don’t have to worry about asking me to go out of my way for you. In fact, if it was possible, I hope you’d always do it. I’d go to the moon and back for you if you needed me to.”
You felt the tears well up in your eyes again, this time from an overwhelming feeling of being loved by someone.
Jay just quietly pressed his lips against your temple.
You leaned into him, the rest of the pizza slices forgotten on the table.
“Will you tell me what happened?”
You bit your lip, sitting up a little before you recounted what had happened that night as vaguely as possible, with bare details.
Even so, you could literally hear Jay grinding his teeth beside you.
You glanced at him. “Jay.”
“I’ll kill him. I will literally break his hands.”
You snuggled back into his side. “No, you won’t.” You mumbled. “But I needed to hear that.”
Jay sighed and pulled you tighter against him. “You did the right thing, you know that right? No matter what anyone says.”
You nodded without looking up and Jay patted the back of your head gently, ruffling your hair gently in the process.
You leaned deeper into Jay’s embrace before turning your head up gently to glance at him.
Jay smiled and leaned down to press his lips gently against yours. The negative feelings of the entire night were long gone because you were right where you belonged - home with Jay.

Low Effort
Pairing: Jay Halstead x Reader
Requested: no
Summary: Y/N gets a surprise visit, which triggers some unpleasant symptoms
Tumblr media
Word Count: 1k+
Tags/Warnings: mentions of stomach cramps, slight allusion to anxiety, negative emotions
A/N: Long time no see! This is a thing I needed to get off my chest and needed to get the emotions out, so it’s just some Jay comfort/fluff. Also, a warning that I haven’t written in so long, this kind of feels a bit meh, so I hope I haven’t lost too much of my writing touch LOL
JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You closed your laptop shut, just as your phone lit up with a notification about a new message from Jay.
Sorry, got held up. 10 minutes. Tops.
You smiled, typing a quick response of acknowledgment to tell him not to hurry before you got up, grabbing your bag. You were too fried to continue anything else so you figured you would just go and wait for him. Fresh air was better than whatever was coming through the office vents.
As the glass doors of the main entrance on the first floor slid open and you felt the chill of the Chicago winds hit your face, you sighed. Fresh air was definitely better.
“Y/N.”
You glanced up, your eyebrows naturally bunching together at the sound of a woman’s voice.
As your eyes met hers, you froze for a moment, your brain still processing the fact that she was here.
“Amy?” Her name slipped past your lips before you could stop yourself, even though the only emotion you were feeling at this moment was surprise. There was nothing positive or negative about it.
Amy could feel it in your voice as well. “Can we talk? I’ve missed you.”
You frowned as a cramp shot through your lower abdomen.
“I thought we were better friends than this. Low-maintenance, remember?” Amy said, and you could hear the tone in her voice, the one she used when she was upset or disappointed.
The feeling of indignation shot through you once again.
“Yeah, low maintenance, not low effort.”
Your voice was low but you didn’t let the emotion sway it. You spent years telling yourself that it was just a low-maintenance friendship, that you were both just busy, but you couldn’t ignore the way she’d reappear in front of you only when she needed your support, or when the guy she was seeing was out of town.
You glanced up at the street but hadn’t seen Jay’s car yet.
You exhaled. “Look, Amy. You have your priorities, I get it. Just don’t expect me to drop mine when you blow back into town or when your boyfriend doesn’t have time for you. It doesn’t work that way.”
You felt the cramps intensify and knew what it was. You called it “emotional cramps” with Jay, joking that as long as he kept you happy you’d be fine. Yet, here they were again. Maybe it was because you hadn’t had them in a while, you felt them more intensely now.
You put a hand on your stomach as you looked up at Amy. As expected, she had an indignant look on her face.
“How could you say that, Y/N? I know the fact that I was seeing Trevor was a sore spot with you because you weren’t seeing anyone so I didn’t want to make things harder for you. But now…”
You couldn't even respond as the pain ripped through you once again and you bent forward slightly, your knees buckling a little. You braced yourself for the impact of your knees hitting the concrete sidewalk when you felt his arms around you.
“Babe, what’s wrong?”
Jay.
Amy seemed stunned for a moment before she spoke again, “It must be her…”
“Why’s it acting up?” Jay asked, his entire focus on you as you glanced up at him and quietly shook your head.
Jay glanced up at Amy. They didn’t know each other since you’d met Jay sometime after contact between you and Amy had dwindled to almost nothing. By the time you and Jay had started dating, you’d made up your mind to let go of Amy and this friendship, and it had merely nagged at you a little at the back of your mind from time to time so you hadn’t brought her up.
“Come on, we’re going to Med,” Jay said quietly, pulling you upright.
You glanced at him. “Don’t you dare carry me,” You warned.
Despite the worried look in his eyes, Jay smiled. “We’re going to Will.” He repeated, almost like he was daring you to argue.
You didn’t argue. Partly because all you wanted to do was get out of there but partly because you knew it was useless. Besides, the pain was more intense than you remembered.
Without a second glance back, Jay helped you into the car and drove off, both of you leaving Amy still standing on the sidewalk.
Tumblr media
You knew what had triggered the attack, so after getting medication for the pain and cramping, you’d been feeling much better.
“You know I’d be feeling even better if you would stop hovering, Detective.” You said, directing the comment at your boyfriend.
Will smiled as he tapped on the iPad in his hand and glanced at his brother. “She’s fine. Her tests are normal, and it was probably just a one-off stress-related attack.”
You nodded. “I’ll follow up with my therapist, I promise.”
Will ruffled your hair affectionately and you growled because he knew you hated it.
“I’ll get the discharge started.”
Jay was quiet as he leaned over you, pressing a gentle kiss to your forehead. “You sure you’re okay?”
You nodded, before you glanced back down.
“Amy’s an old friend.” You said, after a while. "At least, she was."
Jay didn’t say anything, so you continued, telling him about how Amy was when she started dating anyone, and it only progressively got worse. “And it’s not about seeing her often, you know? It’s just…”
Jay nodded. “You didn’t feel like she cared.”
You sighed quietly. “I just… it got to a point where I realized she didn’t care. I was a friend when she needed me, and when she didn’t, I just… didn’t exist. And apparently, to her, that’s me being sore.”
Jay just took your hand in his, gently stroking your fingers.
“But I just realized it was better to have no one than to be treated that way, so I just…”
“You don’t have to explain anything to me,” Jay said quietly. “Listen, someone who gives you low effort doesn’t deserve you. I don’t care who they are. Anyone who makes you feel this way doesn’t deserve even one percent of you.”
You looked up at him and smiled, a little sadness hidden behind it.
“I guess seeing her today just brought it all back, you know? And then it triggered all those emotions and then my stomach cramps decided to join the party.” You made a face.
Jay smiled quietly back at you. “But you know what? You’re not alone. At least not anymore.”
You smiled and leaned forward for a hug. Jay perched by the edge of the bed, pulling you gently into his arms and you buried your face into his shoulders, feeling his arms encircle your entire body.
“I know.” You whispered.
Jay kissed the top of your head. “Good.”

JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
“Hey, you wanna grab dinner?” Will asked as he opened his locker next to you.
You glanced back at him, your eyes betraying the mental exhaustion from the day. Losing children was never easy, everyone knew that.
You gave Will a small smile. “No date with Connor?” You lightly teased.
Will chuckled.
Will and Connor had been dancing around each other for almost forever and it had taken you an unbelievable amount of self control not to literally bonk their heads together. Thankfully, they’d gotten off their asses before you had to.
“Connor got pulled into a surgery so I got stood up.”
You let out a small laugh, closing your locker. “Your brother’s on a case so… dinner’s on you.”
Will laughed, nodding. “I got you.”
The both of you ended up in one of the eateries you frequented that was near Med which opened late exactly for this reason - a place that had saved all of you from many late nights. Be it when Jay came to get you from a late shift, or when you, Connor and Will needed to eat after a shift before going to crash. All four of you had even been here together shortly after the shift in dynamics - you and Jay had just gotten married, while Will and Connor had finally started seeing each other officially.
In an effort to steer both your thoughts away from work, Will started a conversation about Connor, and you watched a light in Will’s eyes as he talked about Connor, a light that had finally let its way out into the world.
“What?” Will asked, angling his eyebrows at you before you realized you were smiling cheekily at him.
You shrugged. “Just nice to see you so happy.”
Will smiled, reaching over to ruffle your hair.
“You know you transitioned into this annoying older brother role way too smoothly.” You growled playfully, your eyes narrowing at him.
Will laughed, retracting his hand and chuckling.
Tumblr media
“Y/N?”
Jay’s voice reached you first before you saw him but it still made you smile.
“You said you were going to be late?” You said but you were already looping your arms around his waist and pressing yourself into his embrace.
Jay let out a small chuckle. “Sorry, I know things have been a little crazy.”
You shook your head, burying your face deeper into his shoulder. “I just missed you.”
Jay leaned back before leaning back down to press a gentle kiss to your lips. “Shall we stay in tonight?”
You grinned back at him. “Sounds perfect.”
It felt like it had been a while since you and Jay had done this, just stayed in, the television turned on while the two of you had a cozy meal before cuddling on the couch with the wine glasses sitting just a little precariously on the small coffee table Will and Connor had gotten the both of you as a wedding present.
“Everything at work okay?” Jay asked quietly, his arms resting around your waist.
“You know, same-old. We have the bullies, the overbearing parents, but there are also families that remind me why I became a doctor.”
Jay rested his chin gently on your shoulder, his cheek resting lightly against yours before he closed his eyes.
“I think that if you’re here, if I know that I get to come home to you at the end of any day or case, I’ll be able to do about anything.” He whispered.
You knew that voice, the voice that told you he'd had a hard day.
You took his hand gently in yours. “I’ll always be here, Jay. At the end of every difficult case, or day, no matter what.”
Jay pressed a kiss to your cheek lightly and you leaned further back into his embrace.
Tumblr media
“Dr Y/L/N, someone’s asking for you in the waiting room if you have a few minutes.” One of the nurses came up to you as you were studying a patient’s chart.
You looked around the ED, it was a quiet sort of day but you weren’t in the best of moods since you’d lost your card holder. Just thinking about having to replace your credit cards already made you feel tired and anxious. Regardless, you nodded with a smile at the nurse, thanking her for letting you know.
Putting on your best professional smile you headed towards the waiting room, scanning the crowd for someone who looked like they’d be waiting for you.
A woman who was about your age made eye contact with you, giving you a small smile. “Y/N Y/L/N?”
You frowned just a little in confusion although you kept your expression mostly neutral and nodded. She seemed a little familiar to you even though you weren’t fully certain where you’d seen her before.
The woman just smiled, handing you back a card case that was most definitely yours.
“I think you dropped this, this morning at the coffee place. I got your name from one of your cards and luckily the cafe said you were a regular so they knew you worked here.”
You felt the relief flood your system, the anxiety that had been clawing at you the whole morning finally seeming to let up.
“Oh my god, thank you.” You could even hear the relief in your voice bounce back at you but you weren't even embarrassed. “You saved me a lot of trouble and well... stress.”
You paused as you looked at her. “I feel like I’ve seen you somewhere before. Have we met?”
The woman just smiled and shook her head. “Maybe in the mornings, I get my coffee there too most days.”
It didn’t feel like a correct answer but you let it go, reminding yourself this was not the time to obsess over unimportant details.
“Look, you did me a huge favor today. Is there something I can do to thank you?”
The woman just smiled. “Maybe you can just buy me a coffee. Tomorrow morning?”
You studied her for a bit and then nodded. She smiled, extending her hand. “Grace.”
You smiled back at her and shook it, agreeing to see each other the next morning at the cafe.
As you watched her walk back out the main door with a friendly wave, you felt that weird feeling again, like something wasn’t quite sitting right with you.
You definitely knew her from somewhere.
Tumblr media
As agreed, you’d met Grace the next morning at your morning coffee stop and it had gone better than you'd expected, so much so that you’d talked yourself out of that weird feeling in your gut, putting it down to that tinge of social anxiety you had with new people.
You’d almost caved and asked Will or Connor if they could come with you but decided you didn’t really wanna be a wuss. Besides, the rational part of your brain was telling you that your anxiety was being irrational once again.
Grace had been easy to talk to though, so you were glad you hadn’t overreacted.
But when you opened the door to the doctors’ lounge armed with coffees for both Connor and Will, you sensed something was off.
Will was sitting on the couch, his head ticked up just a little as the door opened and Connor’s arm was around Will’s shoulders, Will gently pressed up against Connor. Even though it was no secret, they didn't usually behave much like a couple at work.
“What’s wrong?” You asked, frowning as you quickly put the coffees down on the table and headed towards them.
Will glanced at Connor. “I’m fine.”
Connor gave him half an exasperated look, even though you could still see the frown lines tinged with worry.
Will might be your brother-in-law, but way before you and Jay had gotten close, the three of you had always been great friends so it wasn’t surprising you could tell they were holding something back.
You raised an eyebrow at Connor. “Someone better tell me what’s going on.”
Will exchanged a look with Connor before he gave him a small nod.
“She’s back.”
She.
You knew exactly who Connor was talking about. That was the part that really made you feel like shit.
Will had been reluctant to call it stalking at first, reluctant to put Jay on this even though the laws on stalking had already greatly improved the past few years. But now it seemed like Will was getting concerned too.
“Will, maybe we need to tell Jay about this.” You said gently, even though you understood why Will didn’t want to tell Jay and make it all official.
Will just nodded. “Maybe. I’ll talk to him.”
Connor glanced at Will before squeezing his hand gently. “I’ll see you later, alright? I've got a surgery."
With a quick kiss, Will and Connor parted and you nodded at Connor to assure him that you were here anyway.
Tumblr media
Will had told himself that if it persisted he'd go to Jay but she'd suddenly stopped showing up. The notes stopped and the street was empty when Will left the house.
“Maybe she finally gave up. Like she had one last look and she left.” You said, even though just saying it sounded stupid.
Will just smiled back, asking everyone to stop worrying.
“Y/N, you’re wanted in the waiting room.” Maggie called across the ED and you nodded, patting Will on the arm before heading straight out, shrugging at Maggie.
You’d barely stepped out of the automatic doors when you saw her.
“Grace?”
She looked a little frazzled, like she was startled.
“Y/N, thank god. I didn’t know anyone else and…”
You frowned, stopping her with a hand on her arm. “Okay, slow down. What’s going on?”
“My friend, she got hurt and I don’t think I can move her. It’s just at the next street. Can you…”
You frowned. “How is she hurt, Grace? What happened?”
Grace shook her head. “I don’t know, can you just…”
You took a glance back at Leah, who nodded at you quickly disappearing back into the ED.
Feeling certain that whoever it was that Leah alerted would be able to catch up to you quickly, you let Grace lead you out of the ED, so preoccupied that you didn’t notice the shift in the look in her eyes.
Tumblr media
“Anything?”
Will asked, jogging up towards Ethan who shook his head.
Having just gotten a bit of time between patients, Will and Ethan had come out after you almost immediately but somehow you were nowhere to be found.
Will already had his phone pressed to his ear but while it had been ringing earlier, it was now dead.
“Are we sure…” Will’s voice trailed off as his eye caught on something right by the side of the sidewalk. “Wait.”
Will bent down, picking it up. There was no mistaking it, Will thought, as the key-shaped pendant from your necklace lay in his palm. “This is hers. I better call Jay.”
Tumblr media
The ringing in Jay’s ears hadn’t stopped since he’d heard from Will.
With no hesitation whatsoever, Voight had sent Jay and Hailey along to Med, while Kim went straight to try to track movements from traffic pods.
Jay frowned now as he leaned over the computer in the security office with Hailey, watching as you spoke to a woman in the waiting room, her face not fully visible from the angle she was standing at.
Hailey glanced at Jay. “She knows where the cameras are.”
Jay nodded absentmindedly, his eyes locked on the image of you leaving the hospital - the last time any of your colleagues had seen you.
Jay ran a hand across his face as he tried to empty his brain to think. Nothing made sense. It didn’t make sense why anyone would want to take you. There’d been no violent patients that you had mentioned recently and everyone Hailey had spoken to earlier couldn’t think of anyone from the past few months either. Sure, there’d been difficult patients and family members but no one that jumped out as being dangerous.
Which meant they had no starting point. And Jay was worried that his brain was too clouded with worry to even think straight. He felt like he was missing something.
“Jay. Here.” Will said, his voice quiet as he put the necklace in Jay’s hand.
Jay’s eyes lingered for a while on the pendant now and Will glanced at his brother worriedly, unable to even imagine being in Jay’s shoes right now.
“Jay, if you…”
Will was interrupted as Jay’s phone rang, his eyes wandering towards the screen of the image capture.
What the hell?
Will glanced up again where Jay was still talking on the phone, before his eyes found the screen again, feeling the knot in his gut seemingly grow in size.
“Will, I just heard.” Connor’s voice broke Will out of what was almost a trance, turning to look at Connor.
Connor registered the look in Will’s eyes almost immediately, his eyes flitting to the screen before he glanced at Will. “That’s…”
“What?” Jay asked now, joining them again as he finished talking to Kim.
Will could barely look his brother in the eye as he glanced up.
“Her name is Grace. Grace Turner.”
Jay frowned. “You know this woman?”
Will exchanged a look with Connor, who merely squeezed his hand. “She's been stalking me."
Tumblr media
The room was still spinning but at least it seemed to be slowing down.
Grace had her back to you as she fiddled with something on her table. You knew you should have trusted your gut.
From the beginning, something had felt off about her, like she was being too friendly. But then you’d put it down to your social anxiety, swallowing it down like a bad pill.
Yet now, as you became more aware of the ache around your shoulders from your arms being pulled towards your back, feel the rough material of whatever she’d used to tie your wrists together, you knew your gut had been right all along. You should have just listened to it.
Just as you were trying to figure what the hell you were supposed to do, Grace turned to look at you.
Her lips curled up into a smile that you’d never seen on her face before, something that made the feeling of unease balloon up in the pit of your stomach.
“You’re awake.”
You frowned, your eyes scanning her expression for more clues.
“Grace, what’s going on? What… is this?” You asked, trying your best to keep your voice level and calm, as you’d done many times in the course of your work in the ED, regardless of what you were feeling.
Grace looked back at you, blinking. “I’ve been trying to figure out why he likes you. There’s nothing truly outstanding, you know?”
You frowned.
“What?”
You weren’t sure if she wasn’t making sense or if your head was still kind of spinning from inhaling whatever drug she’d soaked that cloth with before she’d pressed it against your mouth and nose earlier.
Grace turned back to look at you now and you didn’t like the glint in her eye. “I’ve been trying to figure it out for weeks, why he's been keeping his distance. And then I saw you with him, and then I knew. It was you. You’re the one standing between us.”
You frowned, your mind spinning as you tried to figure out what she was getting at. Jay hadn’t mentioned anything in particular and you were sure if there’d been someone following the both of you around, he’d have said something or changed up the routine for the both of you.
“You… what? Listen, if there’s…”
Grace didn’t seem to be listening though. “Is it because you’re both doctors?”
Both…
“You.” You couldn’t hide the contempt in your voice as you realized this was her. She was the woman who’d been stressing Will out.
Nervous as you were, your gut still feeling like it was flipped inside out, you also felt annoyance and the extreme urge to protect someone you cared about despite the situation you were in.
Even with the ache in your arms, you glared up at her. “If you really cared about him, you wouldn’t be doing this.”
Grace turned back towards you, the anger in her eyes more pronounced now. “No one cares about him more than I do!”
You didn’t avert your eyes, the anger you felt bubbling over in you overtaking the fear and uncertainty that was still hanging over you.
“Not even his brother?” Your voice was still even, as you looked at her. “You took me because you thought Will and I were seeing each other?”
Grace didn’t say anything, just narrowed her eyes at you.
“If we really were seeing each other, did you think taking me here was going to solve anything?”
Grace exhaled loudly. “I’ve been watching you with him.”
You studied Grace, feeling your thoughts swirl. She’d been so obsessed with Will, that she saw you when you were with him but she didn’t watch you any further. She didn’t see the times that you went home or on dates with Jay. You were actually more surprised she didn’t know about Connor.
“So what do you actually want?”
Your eyes flicked to the scissors she had in her hand as you finished your question, before she stepped towards you.
Tumblr media
Jay was quite literally going out of his mind.
They’d matched the woman’s identity, and went straight to her last known address but the apartment looked like it hadn’t been lived in for months judging by the layer of dust that had settled on the furniture. What they did find was a bunch of photos of Will scattered along the walls and other corners of the apartment.
Jay could feel the anger building inside him. Even if this crazy woman hadn’t taken you right under everyone’s nose, the fact that this was somehow connected to his brother was pissing him off so much it was taking all his effort not to punch something.
The sounds of fingers dancing across keyboards, as well as the sound of rifling papers reminded Jay that he needed to keep his head in the game.
“Hey, Jay.”
Jay glanced up to see Connor heading out of the pantry where he’d been with Will, his eyes flicking towards the back view of his brother before he nodded.
“Listen, I was thinking. Will mentioned he’s seen her around his apartment a few times, so couldn’t we…”
Jay froze. “Wait, what?”
Connor frowned. “He didn’t say anything to you?”
Jay’s eyes flicked back in the direction of his brother. “He should have told me about this when it happened.” His voice was slightly reproachful but Connor could hear the tinge of worry as well.
Connor just nodded, realizing he needed to tell Jay almost everything.
“So, can we…”
Jay’s mind was already there as he nodded, leaning back down over his computer, trying to run matches between Grace’s known family and acquaintances with recent rentals near Will’s apartment.
Jay’s eyes scanned the screen in front of him quickly before he paused. “Ruz, what did you say her sister’s name was?”
“Kayla.”
Jay frowned. “I have a Kayla Lloyd here.”
Kim was right on it. “I think you’re on the right track. Kayla Turner married Nash Lloyd three years ago.”
The team exchanged looks. Hailey nodded. “It’s the best we got so far. I say we go.”
Voight was already standing at his office door before he nodded. “Let’s go.”
Tumblr media
Connor glanced at Will from where they were sitting in the back of Jay’s truck.
Will was glancing out, his fist curled into a ball as it rested on the seat between him and Connor. It wasn’t that he was that affected by this woman, but the fact that he hadn’t done anything which ultimately got the people around him dragged in was really eating at him.
Jay glanced at his brother through the rear view mirror before training his eyes back on the road. He didn’t have the capacity to think of anyone else but you right now. He didn’t know how to. But he could feel the fear clawing at him, but he just exhaled slowly, turning the corner towards the address they’d found earlier.
Tumblr media
You exhaled, hearing Grace pacing outside the bedroom she’d put you in.
Your eyes darted around the room, your brain feeling like it was finally clearing up enough for you to form thoughts that were coherent enough for you to take in other details you hadn’t noticed earlier, like your phone sitting on the dresser.
Grace had been a little out for it for a while, alternating between mumbling to herself or ranting at you about Will. You hadn’t exactly pointed out the fact that you weren’t Will’s girlfriend, like she’d been thinking when she’d grabbed you. Other than the insinuation that had seemed to pass right over her head, you weren’t sure if it was going to make things worse if you pointed out that there was nothing going on between you and Will.
But you needed to do something.
You struggled a little to get to your feet, especially considering that your hands and feet were bound together but you managed to stand a little shakily with minimal sound, feeling a bead of sweat travel down the side of your face.
Gritting your teeth to try not to make any other sound, you gently hopped, grateful that at least she’d put a carpet on her bedroom floor. You angled your body, wobbling backwards as you neared the dresser, your hands finally closing around your phone. You fumbled with your fingers trying to at least turn it on so that Jay could somehow find you. You felt like it was forever, trying to wait for the stupid logo to disappear and for the phone to start but you’d just turned around again to peer at the screen when the door opened.
You froze as you watched the look on Grace’s face shift to one of rage as she took in the scene before her.
She lunged and you threw yourself out of the way, your eyes not missing the fact that she was still gripping onto the scissors in her hand. Your phone slid out of your hands and onto the floor with a thud and you felt your heart sink with it as you tried to reposition yourself on the floor, trying to ignore the shooting pains from the shoulder you’d landed on.
But you knew it was useless, especially as you heard her frustrated breath and a low growl before you felt yourself get yanked up by the hair.
She was freakishly strong for a woman her size.
That was the thought that entered your mind as you tried to regain as much balance as you could. You felt your breath catch in your throat as the threatening cold metal blades hovered near your neck right before the door crashed open.
You’d never felt such a sense of safety overwhelm you until you saw your husband’s face now, his gun ticked up high, his eyes betraying a mixed look of relief and worry at the same time, if that was even possible.
“Y/N.” Your name left his lips like a reflex, his eyes locked directly on yours, even the unspoken words putting you slowly at ease.
Jay was here.
Jay’s eyes flicked towards the woman standing behind you who looked as startled as a deer caught in the headlights of an oncoming car.
“Put the scissors down.”
You heard the effort it took for Jay to keep his voice steady, knowing that it would just take something small for Jay to lose it. So you locked your eyes on his, even though you felt the anxiety once again eat at you.
Grace hadn’t reacted and Jay kept his gun raised, his trained eyes looking around the room.
“Stay out of this.” Grace forced the words out through her clenched teeth. “I wouldn’t have done this if she didn’t…”
Her words trailed off as your body froze, your eyes catching the flash of ginger at the door.
“Will.” You felt the jolt of worry hit you, interrupted only by a growl from behind you, the scissors that inched dangerously closer towards your neck reminding you that maybe you shouldn’t have said his name.
Will’s eyes lighted on yours and despite the predicament you found yourself in, you wanted to smack him upside the head for that guilt swimming in his eyes.
Your eyes moved back towards Jay’s and he nodded discreetly at you.
“Grace. Listen to me. Put it down and we can all talk, alright?” Jay said quietly, lowering his gun just a little as a show of faith.
Grace frowned, her eyes flicking up towards Will before she spoke. “All I needed to do was get rid of her, right?”
Will’s frown deepened just slightly as he absorbed what Grace was saying.
“I was just getting rid of the obstacles standing in our way.” Grace said, her voice cracking just a little. “I see the way you look at her, but if it wasn’t for her, we'd be together!"
Will glanced at you and you frowned just as his eyes flicked back to Grace, his head shaking slowly. “I need you to let her go. Can’t you see you’re hurting everyone?”
You heard Will’s voice crack softly, Jay’s eyes flicking towards his older brother as well.
“She’s my… she’s my sister. There’s nothing… You… you’ve misunderstood.”
You could hear how much it was killing Will to keep his voice even and steady, when he was just as close to losing his cool as Jay was.
You felt Grace’s hold on you loosen just a little as her focus shifted entirely to Will. “Your…”
She shook her head, her shaking hand once again inching closer towards you. “I’ve seen the both of you… you don’t have a sister, don’t lie to me!”
“It’s true.” Will said quietly, glancing at Jay who nodded, now lowering his gun even more, Hailey stepping just half a step forward in case.
“Grace.” Jay said quietly. “Look at me.”
As Grace turned her attention to him, Jay exhaled gently. “You know me, don’t you? If you know Will as well as you do.”
Grace nodded slowly. “I just want my wife back.” He said quietly and you heard the quiet crack in his voice, one that only you would have picked up on. “Just give her back to me, please.”
“Your…”
Grace angled her head back down to you and you nodded. “I tried to tell you.”
Caught off-guard, Grace looked like she wasn’t sure what to do next. In her hesitation, her hand holding the blade moved slightly away from you, hovering off to the side and Jay nodded at you.
You threw yourself in the opposite direction, falling back down onto the ground with a crash, the pain in your shoulder causing you to groan. Jay lunged towards Grace, the metal blades of the scissors clattering across the ground as she lost grip.
“Y/N, are you hurt?”
Will’s voice reached you first and you opened your eyes, the groan escaping your lips. “My shoulder. I think…”
Jay was back at your side as Hailey took over the arrest, slicing through the cables around your wrists quickly. The relief was almost immediate and a quiet sigh escaped your lips as the pressure of your arms being pulled behind you was released, even though your shoulder still gave a small throb.
“Are you hurt?” Jay’s voice was quiet but you could feel every single emotion that pulsated through those three words.
You winced as Will’s fingers applied pressure on your shoulder but Will glanced up a little guiltily at his brother, shaking his head. “It’s a little strained but I don’t think it’s a serious injury.”
“Chloroform I think.” You told Will, glancing a little worriedly at Jay for an impending reaction.
Instead, Jay just leaned in, pressing you gently into his embrace, as if worried you’d disappear right out of his arms.
You felt tears well up in your eyes as the adrenaline still pumped through your veins, the anxiety from everything that had happened pulling to the surface, a quiet sob escaping through your lips.
Putting a gentle hand on your head, Jay pulled you deeper into his embrace, soothing you quietly and as you felt your heartbeat slow, you didn’t feel like crying anymore.
Tumblr media
The only time Jay had let go of your hand was briefly in the ambulance when the paramedics needed to put a line in, as well as when Ethan had asked him to wait outside and you’d nodded quietly at him with an encouraging smile.
But the moment Ethan had let him back in, Jay was once again next to you almost like a bodyguard while Ethan assured him that everything seemed to be okay except that your shoulder was slightly bruised from the fall and that you were getting an ice compress and they’d examine you again after.
As Ethan left the both of you alone in the room again, you leaned your head against Jay with a soft sigh.
“You doing okay?” Jay asked quietly.
You didn’t answer immediately before you nodded. “You heard Ethan.”
“You know that wasn’t what I was asking.” A reproachful tone crept into Jay’s voice despite his efforts to hide it.
You pulled away to look up at him and Jay took the opportunity to lower himself down towards you, sitting at the edge of your bed so he could be close enough for you to remain snuggled into his side.
“I remembered where I knew her from…” You’d barely begun when your eyes caught Will hovering at the entrance of the room.
Jay glanced up, nodding at his brother who was closely followed by Connor. Connor had Will’s hand protectively clamped in his own, which only made you want to smile.
“Hey, you doing okay?” Will asked. “Ethan said whatever she gave you was probably just a sedative and that other than a busted shoulder you’re…”
You smiled. “I’m fine.”
Will glanced at Jay, which made you look at your husband as well.
“Look, Y/N. I’m sorry. This is all…”
“Will Halstead.” You snapped, interrupting him. “I swear to God, if you take all the blame for this one I will smack you upside the head. Hard.”
You narrowed your eyes at him as Will looked a little startled, even though a smile was playing on the corner of Connor’s lips.
“How the hell were any of us supposed to know this was her? Or that this woman following you around would actually think I was your girlfriend and kidnap me in broad daylight?” You said, glancing over at Jay as if this was directed at him as well.
Jay just nodded at you before looking at his brother. “Will, I wasn’t blaming you, I just…”
Will nodded. “I know. I kept thinking if Connor had disappeared…”
Connor gave Will’s hand another reassuring squeeze.
“We done?” You asked, almost accusingly at Will.
Will’s eyebrows bunched together in slight confusion as he nodded.
“Now, get over here. I need a hug from my older brother.” You snapped.
Will let out the first real smile that day and stepped forward to pull his arms around you. “I’m sorry.” Will whispered.
You shook your head. “All of you came to get me. That’s what matters.”
Will pulled away and Connor reached for his hand once more. “Told you so.”
You smiled, leaning back into Jay’s embrace. “You almost induced a heart attack today. Don’t ever disappear on me again.” Jay whispered, pressing his lips onto your temple.
You just closed your eyes, letting out a soft hum of satisfaction at being safe with Jay, accompanied by Will and Connor, the ache in your shoulder barely even bothering you anymore.

JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You stretched as you climbed out of your car.
It had been a long day running around the city meeting clients and today was just one of those days when you wanted to put your feet up and not move any longer. You’d even regretted putting your make up on because that meant you had a longer shower process before you could finally stop for the night.
“You just getting in too?”
You turned around at the familiar voice, giving Jay Halstead a smile as you watched your best friend sidle up the driveway that the both of you shared, holding a pizza box in his hand.
You’d kind of known Jay all your life, even though you’d fallen out of touch somewhere in between. But by some stroke of luck, you’d found a perfect little house within your budget only to realize that your new neighbor was that friend you’d never totally gotten out of your mind.
At first, you’d been a little worried that it would be awkward, but somehow you and Jay had jumped right back into being best friends, the six years you’d spent without contact almost seeming to fade into the background so much that you’d wondered if those six years had even happened.
Jay noticed your eyes shift down to what he was carrying and smiled. “You haven’t eaten, right?”
You didn’t answer him immediately. You kind of wanted to go right to bed but the temptation of food was a little too overwhelming.
“Can I feed Luna and get into sweats? Please?” You asked, turning your eyes back towards him.
Jay let out a tinkle of a laugh. “Get comfortable. I’ll wait.”
You were quick, sliding Luna her bowl of kibble as she wagged her tail and ate, before you let her out into the back garden while you quickly washed up. As your empty stomach egged you on, you cleaned Luna up, patting her head gently with a “I’ll be back soon” before heading next door to Jay’s.
Jay looked up as you let yourself in, pushing a glass of wine towards you as you slid yourself in the seat across from him.
“Long day?” Jay asked, helping himself to a slice as you took a sip from the glass.
“Don’t even get me started.” You said in a low voice, gently putting the glass back down.
There was a small silence before Jay looked up. “The kid called me today.”
You glanced up. “Dylan?”
Jay nodded, taking another bite. “I think he’s just worried about his sister.”
You nodded quietly. “I’d love nothing more than to get enough evidence to sue that asshole out of his entire fortune and then let you throw him behind bars. But you know these things take time.”
Jay had met Dylan Stevens during one of his cases. He hadn’t even been a person of interest, just a witness that had helped point the team in the right direction. But there’d been something about this kid that made Jay take a second look.
And Jay’s hunch was proven right when it finally got too much for Dylan’s older sister and she’d finally asked for help - her mentor and boss couldn’t keep his hands to himself.
Other than the fact that Leah desperately needed this job so that she could support both herself and Dylan, her boss was getting more aggressive and other than the anger that was always eating at her, she was also getting a little scared.
Cases like this ate at you. All you wanted was to throw the dickbag to the DA but a case like this was complicated. There were repercussions for going forward with a trial, and being embroiled into a he said-she said situation wouldn’t help Leah. But you’d promised her that you’d help her as best as you could and that you’d be with her, every step of the way.
You held back from releasing a sigh. “I’m trying.”
Jay nodded, leaning forward for your hand, squeezing. “I know.”
It was about two seconds later that he realized he was actually holding your hand. Jay cleared his throat pulling his hand back and you reached for your wine glass to take a sip, both of you trying your hardest to ignore the sudden awkwardness in the air.
You stole a glance at Jay who wasn’t looking in your direction, before you looked back at the clock. While the both of you had spoken at length about the Stevens, time seemed to fly by and you were hours behind your intended sleep schedule for today.
“I should go. I have another long day tomorrow.”
Jay nodded. “Leave it, I’ll take care of this.”
You shot your best friend a grateful smile before standing.
“Let me know if you need any help?” Jay asked as he walked you towards his front door.
You turned and smiled. “You know it.”
Jay leaned forward for a hug that felt a little more awkward than normal before you smiled and slipped out the door, shoving your feelings for Jay Halstead back into the small secret box tucked away in your heart.
Tumblr media
The next few days passed in a blur as you threw all your efforts into finding some form of evidence for Leah. So when you arrived at your driveway tonight, you were wiped. You hadn’t even dared to drive home, leaving your car in your regular parking lot and taking a cab from the front of your office building. You figured you could see if Jay could drop you off the next morning or you’d just call a cab again.
The fact that your door wasn’t locked or closed properly only registered after you’d stepped inside and you froze.
The moonlight streaming in through the windows illuminated the darkened interior of your house, where everything seemed to be turned upside down.
Your eyes raked the scene in front of you, where it looked like a tornado had literally ripped through your house and you took another step forward until you froze again.
The tip of the flats you had on grazed the edge of what you were now looking down at - you could see the dark color of red even with just the sliver of moonlight, the viscous pool right at your feet that could only be blood like something right out of a horror show.
You could hear your ears start ringing, feel your breathing pick up, and somewhere in the trenches of your mind, the horrific memories that you’d tried so hard to pack away seemed to be spilling out, starting with the scream of a woman right in your mind.
And then a hand slid over your eyes, interrupting the hold that the pool of blood seemed to have on you for just a second, even though your lungs still felt like they were constricting. At the same time, an arm went around your shoulders.
The rational part of your brain was screaming at you to move but you seemed to be literally frozen, until you heard his voice. “It’s me. Keep your eyes closed.”
Your heart felt like it was pounding in your head and closing your eyes only made it harder to breathe because now the traumatic memories were playing like a reel in your head, as if it was happening in front of you all over again.
You felt Jay turn you around now. “Y/N, it’s okay.”
But it wasn’t. The memory seemed to have taken a hold on you, even though you could hear Jay’s voice, feel his warm hands on your shoulder.
“Y/N!”
Your eyes snapped back open.
“Breathe. Just look at me and breathe.” Jay said, his voice calm.
You took a short breath and Jay nodded. “Alright, just focus on me, okay?”
Jay studied you as he stood close to you, watching the expressions flash across your face. You’d started having panic attacks back when the both of you were still in school, after you’d walked in to your mother lying in a pool of her own blood. So this wasn’t the first time that Jay had been here for one of your panic attacks, far from it. Even so, you hadn’t had one since you and Jay had reconnected.
Your body shook a little and Jay reached forward and swept you into his arms, your breaths so shallow that it almost sounded like you were gasping for air.
“Just focus on me, alright?” Jay said quietly. You trained your eyes on him and nodded, looping your arms towards the back of his neck for balance before he turned heel and headed out your door and towards his place.
As gently as he could, Jay lowered you onto his couch now, his eyes not missing the beads of sweat that lined your forehead.
Your arms didn’t move from where they were locked around Jay’s neck, even though you felt your body make contact with Jay’s couch.
“Y/N, it’s okay. Shh, I got you.” Jay whispered, not trying to pull away but instead leaning in further to gather you deeper into his arms.
The action seemed to calm you, even just slightly, as your breathing regulated. Before it hit you again.
“Jay… Luna…”
Jay pulled back gently to look at you, nodding his head. “Will has her. He came to get her for the vet appointment this morning, remember?”
You nodded now, slightly calmer, your arms falling gently to your sides.
Jay cast another worried glance at you, but pulled a blanket over your legs. “I’ll be right back.”
Reflexively, your hand shot out, grabbing his. “Jay.”
“I’ll take care of it, alright? Try to get some rest. I’ll be right back.”
You gently let go of Jay’s hand and nodded. Jay gave you a small smile and after a small hesitation, leaned down and pressed his lips to the top of your head, before he headed out the way he’d come as if he hadn’t noticed your surprise at the action.
Tumblr media
“Jay, what happened?”
Jay glanced up as his older brother headed up towards him, Luna by his heel and shook his head. “She’s on my couch. Can you just check her out then put her in my bed and give her something to sleep it off.”
On any other occasion, Will wouldn’t have let Jay get away with a “put her in my bed” without some teasing or a raised eyebrow but his eyes swept across the police cars and crime scene vans before he nodded. “Luna’s gonna be in your place for a while then I guess?"
Jay just nodded. “Can you stay with Y/N?”
Will nodded, raising the bag he had in his hand. “I came prepared.”
Jay nodded his thanks, his eyes resting on his own house before he turned back around to your place and flipped a switch in his head to focus, heading towards Voight who’d just arrived.
Voight nodded at Jay. “We swept the place. The lock has obvious signs of being jimmied and they ransacked the place. There’s a pool of blood in there so the crime lab will take it back for testing but there’s no sign of where the blood came from. I think whoever did this brought it with them.”
Voight nodded quietly as Jay spoke before he looked back at his senior detective again like he was waiting for an explanation. “Sarge, she’s… she’s a good friend of mine. And it could be linked to a case we were working.”
Before either of them could say more, Hailey jogged right up towards them, glancing at her partner before she started speaking. “We’re pulling cam footage, and the crime scene guys have gone over the house twice. We’ve gotten all we can from the scene.”
Voight looked back at Jay. “Talk to her and see if there’s anything helpful she can provide for us. We’ll see you at the district tomorrow.”
Jay glanced up, knowing that Voight was giving him the night to look in on you and make sure you were okay.
Hailey nodded. “We got this, Jay.”
Jay nodded his thanks with a small smile before he turned and left, his eyes flicking towards your house just once more before entering his own place to check on you.
Tumblr media
Will was sitting on the couch when Jay walked in, Luna curled up on the floor at his feet.
Luna got to her feet as Jay walked in, wagging her tail as she greeted him and Jay bent down to pat Luna gently on the head like a habit, even though he was distracted.
Will glanced at his brother. “I gave her something to help her sleep but you should check on her.”
Jay nodded quietly. “Thanks.”
Will smiled. “I’m gonna crash. If you need me…”
Jay nodded, reaching out to flip off the main light in the hall for his brother. “Yeah, thanks Will.”
Quietly, Jay headed up towards his room, where there was just a small dim light still on. Your eyes were closed as you lay curled up in his sheets and Jay lowered himself quietly towards the floor as he reached out and pushed a section of hair off your face, his worried eyes grazing over you.
Your eyes fluttered open and Jay registered a sliver of alarm before you recognized him and he smiled, reaching down for your hand to squeeze. “You’re okay.”
You smiled. “Sorry about this.” You whispered, your voice low.
Jay shook his head with a smile, raising his hand to stroke the top of your head. “Get some rest, we’ll talk in the morning. Will and I are not going anywhere.”
You let out a small smile, which put Jay’s heart a little more at ease. “I get both Halstead brothers? No one has been safer.”
Jay exhaled gently, glad you were at least okay enough to start making jokes. At the same time, your hand curled reflexively around Jay’s.
“I’ll stay until you sleep.” He said, reading your mind in that weird little way he’d been doing for almost all your life.
You nodded, letting your eyelids droop closed again.
Tumblr media
When you opened your eyes to the sunlight streaming in through the small gap in the blinds across the windows, it took you a while to gather your bearings, your eyes slowly widening with alarm when you realized you were sleeping on an arm that wasn’t yours.
You glanced behind you as slowly as you could without jostling too much, even though you were pretty sure your heart was thumping loud enough to wake him. Deep down, you’d already known the quiet even breathing right behind you was Jay, one arm under you and another draped across your waist effectively putting you right in his embrace.
You wondered for just a second why you’d found yourself in this position before the memories hit you again, the fragmented memories of the night before hitting you like a punch in the gut - from what you’d found in your house, the panic attack, Jay offering to stay until you fell asleep and then the long night plagued by nightmares of screaming women or blood.
You remembered Jay pulling you out of each nightmare as gently as he could and maybe a vague feeling of Jay climbing in behind you.
Of course, that was probably why you’d finally been able to get some restful sleep. But now, you were embarrassed. Well, maybe mortified was a better word.
You felt Jay stiffen a little from where he was squeezed in behind you now and you realized he’d probably woken as well.
You knew someone had to move first so you shifted but instead of getting up, impulsively turned to face Jay.
Jay looked a little startled, like he was surprised and then confused.
“Hey.” Jay offered with a smile, taking your cue and not moving, one hand still draped under you. “You seemed like you were having some trouble sleeping last night, I didn’t mean to…”
You smiled. “Thank you.”
Jay’s smile widened a little like he was relieved but neither of you had moved yet.
“Jay, last night, I…”
Jay reached out to cup your face gently. “I’ll always be here. As long as you need… or want.”
Your eyebrows lifted slowly as you tried to read what Jay was trying to tell you.
“You will never lose me. I will always be right here beside you.” Jay whispered.
“Jay… you…”
Jay’s eyes moved across the expressions on your face like he was trying to figure out what was going on in your mind.
You didn’t know what to say, mainly because you really hadn’t expected to find yourself in this situation. Half of you wondered whether you weren’t really awake yet but all this was too real.
Sensing hesitation, Jay pulled backwards, both literally and figuratively. “Y/N, you don’t have to… I just wanted to…”
You didn’t know what to say so you snuggled just a little closer, reaching for his hand. “You can’t take it back, Jay.”
Jay paused for a bit and then smiled, before he moved closer towards you and when you didn’t move away, Jay pressed a gentle kiss on your lips. “Promise.” He whispered, as he pulled his lips away from yours.
“You ready?” He asked.
You weren’t, not really. You knew that when the both of you got up, you’d have to talk about what had happened in your house and you weren’t sure you were ready to relive it.
Jay reached for your hand and squeezed.
“I’ll be with you. All the way.”
That seemed to be enough to get you moving. Jay swung his legs out of his bed before stretching his hand out to you and you fit your hand into his, like it was meant to be there all along.
Tumblr media
Even if Will hadn’t already gone up to check on you in the middle of the night only to find the both of you huddled together in one bed, he didn’t need to be told that things had changed between the both of you.
He just smiled because if he didn’t know any better he would have thought last night had just one of those normal pizza and beer nights. Whatever, he was just relieved that you seemed to be doing okay, considering everything.
“I gotta get to Med, alright? You’re in good hands.” Will said, smirking.
“Shut up.” You growled, punching Will on the arm but leaning in as he gave you a hug.
Will ruffled your hair gently. “Call if you need me, alright? Although I doubt it.” He couldn’t resist another gentle tease.
You just smiled this time before Will headed out Jay’s door.
Jay gave you a smile as he handed you a cup of tea before sliding into the seat opposite you. “Let’s talk here and then we can go to the district, alright?”
You swallowed and nodded.
Jay reached over, putting his hand over yours and squeezing. “I’m right here.” He reminded.
You smiled, nodding once again.
You don’t know how long you and Jay sat there in his kitchen, going over the cases you were working on recently, or had recently wrapped up. The list wasn’t small, but at least it was exhaustive.
“Alright, come on. We’re going to the district.” Jay got up, swinging an arm around your shoulders before the both of you left the house, but not before you assured Luna you’d be back as soon as you could.
Tumblr media
“What do we have?” Jay asked as he closed the pantry door behind him where he’d left you.
Voight nodded and the team took turns speaking. Jay had sent the list of names ahead of them, so both Kevin and Kim had managed to get a preliminary look at them.
“Jay, any idea if we can narrow this down?” Kim asked, even though she kind of knew it was a long shot. “The perp doesn’t seem to be an expert at this, so we got an image to run facial recognition on.”
Voight glanced at Jay.
Jay paused for a moment, thinking. “There’s two people on that list I’d push to the top. Lucas Russell and Jake Lloyd.”
Kim nodded, heading for her computer as Jay turned towards Voight. “Remember that case we handled with the kid? Dylan Stevens’ sister later came in with the harassment accusation and Y/N took her on as a client. They’re smack in the middle of trying to get some evidence to prove their case against Russell.”
Jay paused before continuing. “Lloyd was one of Y/N’s clients but he was hopping mad that he didn’t manage to get full custody and made threats but that case wrapped up months ago. I figured we should look into these two first.”
From where he was standing at his desk, Adam put down the phone.
“That was the lab.” Adam said. “It’s pig’s blood, which is why there was nothing else but blood. They can get those at some butcher shops, I’ll get a list of places in the area.”
Voight nodded, as Adam and Kevin headed out to try the butchers they had on the list who would have and sell a large enough quantity of pig’s blood.
“I’ll scour the pods again to see if I can find anything new.” Kim said, heading back down as Hailey and Jay stayed at their desks and delved straight into both Russell and Lloyd. At least they were starting somewhere.
The monotony was only broken the few times that Jay had gotten up to go check on you. You’d reassure him that you were okay and that you couldn’t feel any safer than you felt now before Jay had thrown himself back into what he had to do.
No matter what, he was going to solve this crap.
Tumblr media
Despite his determination, they were still at pretty much a dead end. Facial recognition had come back with a hit but they still weren’t able to connect either Russell or Lloyd directly to the man who’d broken into your house.
Adam and Kevin had gone to pick him up immediately, but he wasn’t telling them anything useful and Jay was losing his patience.
“Go on home.” Voight warned, stepping out of his office. “Take her home.”
“Sarge…” Jay stood, ready to argue but Voight gave him a look.
Jay knew Voight well enough that considering Adam and Kevin’s progress, Voight was going to go into the interrogation room himself.
Jay glanced into the pantry where you’d dozed off on the couch before he looked back at his sergeant and nodded, giving in.
Stepping into the pantry quietly, Jay roused you as gently as he could. “Y/N.”
You jumped, your eyes snapping open. “Hey, it’s okay. It’s me.” Jay whispered. “Sorry.”
You blinked and then shook your head. “Sorry. What is it? Did you get someone?”
The look on Jay’s face told you everything you needed to know. You reached forward to take his hand and squeezed. “I’m okay.”
Jay gave you a small smile. “Come on, let’s go home.”
The word ‘home’ made you smile.
“We’ll grab some food on the way.” Jay said with a smile as he took your hand, the both of you heading out of the district.
Tumblr media
You’d had had a quick bite in Jay’s living room together before he’d curled up with you on his couch.
“You should get some sleep.” Jay said quietly, even though he didn’t seem to have any intention of letting you go, his arms still wound around you.
You smiled. “But I love it here.”
Jay let out a little chuckle, even though his mind was still racing through the information he’d gone through earlier. There had to be a connection he was missing.
Just as the thought formed in Jay’s mind, the power went off, the lights and television all shutting off at once.
Jay felt you stiffen in his arms as he sat up.
Jay reached for your hand. “Come here.” Jay reached for the drawer and pulled out his gun as you climbed off the couch as well.
Jay led you back towards the kitchen. “Stay low, stay hidden. Don’t come out until I come and get you.”
You didn’t let go of Jay’s hand.
“It could be nothing. Let’s just be cautious, alright? I’ll be right back.” Jay said quickly, pressing a kiss to the back of your hand.
A little unwillingly, you let go and nodded, crouching low behind the island counter that you’d sat at with Jay countless times for drinks.
You tried to focus on your breathing, focusing on the rhythm and making sure it wasn’t too loud. You’d breathe evenly and softly and just wait for Jay to come back and get you. Everything was going to be okay.
You’d counted to about 80 in your head when you heard the sound of shuffling footsteps.
A part of you hoped it was Jay but you also knew that if Jay was being careful, he wouldn’t walk like this. No way in hell.
The footsteps stopped and you glanced up, the terror gripping you as you looked up into the face of Lucas Russell.
Fuck.
Russell leaned forward and tugged you roughly upwards and out of where you’d been crouched. The scream was stuck in your throat but you needed to let Jay know someone else was here.
But even before you unstuck your own voice, Jay came out of nowhere, tackling Russell towards the ground.
The sudden lift in pressure from Russell's grip on you caused you to lose your balance and you tumbled onto your side, feeling the pain of crashing onto the floor resonate throughout your body.
“Get out of here. Now!” Jay yelled, as he wrestled with Russell, landing a punch across his face before Russell pushed Jay off him.
You didn’t have time to think, stumbling out of Russell’s reach.
But all you knew was that you couldn’t leave Jay behind. No matter what.
“Y/N!” Jay yelled, afraid you hadn’t heard him.
As if pushed out physically from your trance, you started moving but a crash from behind you made you turn.
“Jay!” You yelled, as your eyes registered Jay on the ground a little way away and trying to get to his feet.
Russell pulled out a knife, the blade glistened in the moonlight but before the fear could even register, you heard a chorus of voices that finally made you breathe.
“Chicago PD!”
You let Kim gently pull you towards her as Voight and Adam headed straight for Russell, Voight’s gun hovering dangerously nearer to Russell’s temple than normal as Adam forced him down to the ground to slap the handcuffs over his wrist.
Jay was already by your side. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?” He demanded, his eyes roving across you.
You shook your head even though the tears were already gathering in your eyes and Jay pulled you gently into his arms. “Alright, I got you. I got you. It’s over.”
You shook gently even as you were wrapped in Jay’s arms and your legs finally gave way. You felt yourself sinking but Jay merely pulled you tighter against him, a protective hand wrapped around the back of your head. “I got you.”
Tumblr media
The team had filled you and Jay in once they’d brought Russell back in - the guy they’d arrested had finally cracked and given them the information they needed. Even so, they’d almost sped off to his house but not before Hailey had found a message on Russell's phone that hinted at him ending things tonight. So they’d detoured back to Jay’s.
Now, after things were mostly settled, you lay in Jay’s arms, the both of you squashed into his bed that had clearly been meant for one person.
“I shouldn’t have let you get pulled into this mess.” You whispered, your fingers gently tracing his face.
Jay shook his head. “I will always be between you and a threat. I promised and I’ll deliver.”
You scooted closer towards Jay and Jay laid a protective hand on the back of your head again. “It’s over.”
“You know what?” You asked him after a short silence.
Jay raised an eyebrow as he looked down to meet your eyes.
“At least there’s one good thing out of all of this.” You said quietly.
“What’s that?” Jay asked. You could hear the smile in his voice without even looking up.
You shifted. “I get to do this now.” You leaned up to press your lips to his.
Jay chuckled even as both your lips were still pressed together. “No arguments there.”

Vows
Pairing: Connor Rhodes x Reader
Requested: yes, by anon
Summary: Y/N's pump malfunctions, causing her to pass out at the nurses' station while she's waiting for Connor.
Tumblr media
Word Count: 907
Square Filled: Sick/Illness for #resa.3kfiestabingo
Warnings: mentions of passing out, mentions of chronic conditions
A/N: It has been a hot minute since I wrote a Connor fic, I know! So here it is! Anyway, the request was pretty specific so I hope there isn't any major mistakes. But once again, I'm in no way a medical professional so im sorry if there are!
CONNOR RHODES MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
“Hey, Y/N.” You smiled at Maggie as you walked in and she spotted you immediately, pausing as she glanced at you. “You okay?”
You smiled back and nodded. “It must be the weather or something.”
Maggie nodded, even though her eyes watched you for a while longer. “Connor’s not down from surgery yet. You can wait for him in the lounge. I’ll call up to see if I can get an estimate.”
You smiled, nodding. “It’s fine, Maggie. Thanks!” Maggie took you to the lounge, putting a cup of water on the table for you. You thanked her as she headed back out and you put your head on the table, not sure why you were feeling off today.
Barely a minute had passed when a wave of nausea hit you and you closed your eyes, willing it away or pressing it down. Whatever it was.
You glanced down at the insulin pump you carried around and held back a sigh, afraid that you would end up emptying your stomach contents in the middle of the doctor’s lounge.
But it didn’t seem to want to die down and after sitting there for a while, you figured you’d better get help.
You got to your feet shakily, and you could feel your heart ramming itself against your ribcage like you’d just run a full marathon. Something was definitely wrong.
Tumblr media
Connor tapped his foot impatiently as he watched the numbers on the elevator go down.
The surgery had dragged on for longer than expected since there was an unexpected complication. He’d managed to get the patient’s condition back under control and ended the surgery successfully, except that he was late.
He knew that you wouldn’t get mad or impatient but he didn’t like to keep you waiting. Especially since you should eat on time so you could take your medication. Besides, he’d missed you when he left early that morning so part of this impatience was that he was looking forward to seeing you.
The lift door opened, Connor spotting you almost immediately as he stepped into the ED. You were standing at the nurses' station just outside the doctor's lounge, but Connor paused.
Something was wrong.
You looked like you were propping yourself up against the nurses’ station and Connor frowned, taking another step towards you, your name hanging almost off his tongue before he saw you crumple towards the ground.
“Y/N!”
As Connor headed towards you, Maggie and Will were already getting you onto a stretcher and into a treatment room, with only a silent reassuring nod at Connor.
Connor could feel the thoughts racing a mile a minute in his head, running through all the possibilities of why you’d have collapsed. You’d both been really careful about managing your diabetes but even so, nothing had been this serious.
It felt like the minutes were crawling by as he waited outside, before Will finally opened the door.
“She’s awake.”
The two words made Connor feel like he could finally breathe again.
“Do we know what happened?” Connor asked, half afraid Will would say something more serious.
Will glanced up from the iPad in his hands. “Listen, it looks like her pump gave out on her. I’ve put in the tests to confirm but…”
Connor frowned. “We’re careful about that.”
Will shook his head. “This is not on either of you, alright? For whatever reason, I think the alarm failed to go off.” He paused, studying Connor’s face. “We’re giving her fluids right now, and if the test confirms what we think then she’ll get electrolytes and insulin as well. I’ll order a new pump for her too. Why don’t you go in and be with her, alright? I'll take care of everything else.”
Connor nodded. “Thanks, Will.”
Will smiled and just patted Connor reassuringly on the shoulder.
Tumblr media
The tests had indeed confirmed Will’s suspicions but with the insulin, electrolytes and fluids in your system, you were feeling much better.
Connor had been pretty quiet and you glanced up at him, from where you were sitting up in bed.
He looked up almost immediately, like he’d felt your eyes on him. Giving you a small smile, Connor got up, scooting to the side of your bed.
“You okay?” He asked quietly, the way he did when you were feeling under the weather.
You reached out for his hand. “Sorry.”
He frowned. “For what?”
You exhaled. “Just…”
Connor put a gentle finger to your lips, effectively stopping you from saying anything more and shook your head. “This isn’t your fault. And Will reminded me it isn’t mine, either.”
You blinked back up at him.
“Look, for better or for worse. In sickness, or in health.” Connor paused, even as you felt the tears well up in your eyes. “That’s what I promised. And I intend to live up to those vows, Y/N.”
Connor put one arm around your shoulders, the other reaching for your hand. “And for the record, in sickness doesn’t mean for worse. I mean, I think we do great.”
“You do great.” You whispered, Connor smiling and reaching up to catch the tear that had streaked down the side of your face.
“We.” Connor corrected.
You smiled. “How did I ever luck into you?” You asked quietly.
Connor smiled. “Goes both ways, baby. Both ways.”
You lay your head against Connor’s shoulders, knowing that no matter what he would always be your rock.

Model Husband
Pairing: Connor Rhodes x Reader
Requested: yes, by @lelaartt
Summary: Stressful day, but at least there's Connor.
Tumblr media
Word Count: 819
Tags/Warnings: Established Relationship, mentions of death
A/N: I know I haven't posted in a while, but this has been sitting in my drafts for... forever lol. Please bear with me, this semester is kinda crazed.
CONNOR RHODES MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
It had been a long day. A long draining day and Connor was just looking forward to seeing you and having a quiet night together.
Figuring he’d check if you were ready, Connor left the doctor’s lounge still in his white coat, taking the lift right up to the ICU.
As he stepped in, he caught sight of you immediately, running towards one of the rooms where there was an obvious code blue, a rush of staff heading towards the room.
Connor stood to the side against an empty side of the station, quietly watching as you worked quickly to assist the doctor standing next to you.
It must have been a tough day for you too, Connor caught himself thinking as his eyes followed you. Anyone else would have missed it - the slight droop in your shoulders, or the way you stood telling him you had that persistent ache at that one point on your shoulders that kept coming back to haunt you.
Connor looked down as he picked up on the sounds of “Clear!” from the doctor that was working on the patient. But Connor also knew well enough the chances…
He held back an audible sigh as the faint sound of a flat line made its way out to him. Now, the look in your eyes told him he really needed to get you out of there.
You looked up, catching sight of your husband now. Even just seeing him from afar made you want to cry, so you gave him a small smile and he nodded, telling you not to worry and that he’d be right there waiting.
Tumblr media
If anyone asked how you’d gotten from the hospital back home, you’d have to ask them to ask Connor.
You were drained, both physically and mentally. The knotted ache in your shoulder that was consistently giving you issues was acting up again, you felt dead on your feet and the ICU had lost three patients today.
You weren’t exactly emotionally attached. You were an experienced enough nurse to handle that well, but even so losing patients was draining no matter what.
“Here.”
Connor handed you a plate and you smiled up at your husband from where you were seated with your legs crossed on the couch.
Like a model husband, Connor had insisted on preparing dinner while you took a hot shower which had definitely made you feel a lot better even though the knot in your shoulder was still there.
“Thanks, babe.” You answered, not realizing how hungry you were until the smell of pasta reached you as you took the plate in your hands.
The both of you ate in mostly silence, but Connor sat close by and that in itself made you feel better and you glanced at your husband, who returned you a smile.
Connor took the empty plate out of your hands and you frowned.
“You already cooked.”
Connor shook his head. “Just fulfilling my husband duties.”
“I knew I married you for a reason.” You announced in a sort of teasing fashion that would have been more convincing if you weren’t so exhausted.
Connor just smiled and pressed a kiss to the top of your head before you heard him patter off to the kitchen, flipping on the stereo on his way.
Music was now playing softly in the apartment and you closed your eyes for a while, the faint sound of running water from the kitchen mixing together with the soft music tones. This was the kind of evening you needed, especially today.
You opened your eyes again when you felt Connor’s hands touch your shoulder from behind you and you glanced up at him.
“What’s going on?” You asked with a smile. “Is today a special day I don’t know about?”
The words were barely out of your mouth before your brain started working, trying to figure out if you had forgotten a date or something.
Connor shook his head. “Relax. The ache’s been bothering you today, hasn’t it?”
You felt his thumb press firmly against the knot, and you exhaled, the stress seeming to leave your body almost instantaneously.
You closed your eyes, feeling Connor’s fingers seemingly press out all the negative feelings and stress from the day.
Angling your head upwards again, you reached up for his hand. “You must be tired too, come here.”
“You sure?”
You smiled, tugging gently so that Connor would make his way back around to the front of the couch and next to you.
“This is the best way you can help me recharge.” You said, fitting yourself right into his arms , both of you sprawled on the couch.
Connor smiled, his arms looping around your body. “Me too.”
You chuckled, resting the back of your head against his chest, feeling the edges of Connor’s stubble against your temple and knowing this was the perfect way to end a stressful day.

Bad Feeling
Pairing: Matt Casey x Reader
Requested: yes by anon
Summary: Matt gets an uneasy feeling, which intensifies when he spots Y/N's car at the scene of a multi-vehicle accident.
Tumblr media
Square Filled: Hurt/Comfort for #resa.3kfiestabingo
Word Count: 1,324
Warnings: canon-typical mentions of car accidents, injuries
A/N: Some hurt/comfort that has been sitting in my drafts for too long! Also, I'm gonna start tagging my oc (child) characters!
MATT CASEY MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Matt glanced at his phone, the lack of response to his message concerning him just a little. "Get a grip, Matt, maybe she’s driving.” He muttered at himself, just as the bells went off.
All units, Multi-vehicle accident.
With no other time to let his mind wander, Matt hurried towards the truck, nodding at Stella as the sirens sounded and the trucks hurried towards the address that dispatch had given them. But it wasn’t until Stella pulled the truck over at a distance away from the crash that Matt felt an irrational bad feeling blossom in his chest.
Matt pushed the feeling aside as he got out of the truck, wondering what the hell was wrong with him today. But he didn’t have long to be distracted as they immediately got to work.
He’d just sent most of them off in pairs when he spotted it - the flash of color, the partial license plate that sent his heart down to his stomach, the realization that the bad feeling was no longer irrational, while there was a crashing in his ears.
Stella spotted the car almost at the same time that Matt did, her head swiveling back to look at her Captain, but Matt was already on the move, gripping the tool he had in his hand tighter as he avoided people and vehicles alike, before he got there.
“Y/N!”
The car was lying on its side and Matt got on his knees to peer in, his heart thumping hard against his chest even though he’d done this a million times before.
“Alex?”
His four year old blinked back at him, looking alert and Matt’s eyes left Alex just for a second to glance at where you were motionless in the driver's seat up front.
“Hey buddy, you okay?” Matt said, peering in at his son.
“Daddy?”
Matt nodded back at Alex. “Listen, I need you to stay still alright?”
“You get me?” Alex asked, although he didn’t move as his father had instructed, continuing to lie on his stomach.
“Yes, I’m coming to get you, alright? Does anything hurt?"
Alex shook his head slowly and Matt nodded again. “Will you be a brave boy?”
He nodded quietly and Matt turned his attention towards you with a nod at Kelly.
Matt could hear Kelly talking to Alex, so he headed towards the front of the car. “Y/N, can you hear me?”
Matt glanced at Sylvie when you didn’t respond, the unease written all over his face.
“Casey, we got this.” Stella assured him, as the rest of the team worked even faster now, the loud sounds of their tools seeming to overwhelm the sounds of the other truck sirens that were coming to help.
As Cruz pulled off the back door, Kelly reached in for Alex, who was more than happy to wriggle his way towards his favorite uncle.
Kelly pulled Alex into his arms, his eyes raking the little boy for any sign of injuries before Violet reached them to check him out, Violet then bringing Alex straight to Matt.
“Hey buddy.” Matt said, keeping his voice low even as his eyes darted towards where Stella and Mouch were working on getting you out.
Matt felt the fear spread throughout his body even as he propped Alex into his arms. “He just has a few scratches and he’s fine but we should still go to Med.” Violet told Matt, as if she knew he needed a distraction.
Matt smiled. “Thanks, Violet.”
He offered Alex a reassuring smile, turning his body at an angle so that Alex couldn’t see them lift you out of the car.
Stella looked up with a small shake of her head.
You still weren’t responsive.
“Matt, you can come with us. We should get Alex checked out too.” Sylvie said. With a silent nod from Boden, Matt climbed in after you, reaching forward for your hand quietly, Alex sitting in his lap.
Tumblr media
The hardest part for Matt was juggling a toddler and being worried for you, like Matt had to choose between being a father or a husband, when he was both.
You’d been wheeled straight into a treatment room with Connor and Ethan assuring that you were in good hands, while Maggie directed him into a room with Dylan.
“Hey. I’m Dylan. You must be Alex.”
Alex glanced up at Matt who gave him an encouraging nod and Alex smiled back at Dylan.
As Dylan spoke to Alex and checked him out, Matt found his eyes wandering towards the treatment you were in, the hurried movements from across the ED not comforting at all. But he couldn’t leave his son here to go check on you.
“Case.”
Matt heard his best friend’s voice first before he registered his presence.
“Why don’t you go check on her?” Kelly said, reading his thoughts immediately, recalling the time Stella had been brought in. “Alex and I can hang out. What do you say?”
“Yeah!” Alex’s excitement when it came to Kelly had never come more in handy.
“Thanks, Sev.” Matt said, Kelly patting him on the shoulder.
Before he left, Matt pressed a quick kiss on his son's head. "I'll be right back." But Alex didn't seem too bothered, distracted by Kelly and Dylan.
Matt hurried across the ED, just as Connor came out from the treatment room. “Casey, good. I need to bring her up to surgery, alright? There’s some broken bones and she’s bleeding internally. I need to go in and stop the bleeding. Can I do that?”
Matt nodded quickly. “Whatever you have to do, Connor. I…”
Connor nodded back. “Casey, I got her.”
Matt leaned over to give your hand a squeeze, even though you still didn’t seem to be conscious. “Alex and I will be right here, baby.” He whispered, before they quickly wheeled you off.
Tumblr media
When you become conscious of your surroundings once again, you were confused at first. Your vision swam for a bit before the ceiling became clearer and your brain registered the smell that could mean you were only in one place - the hospital.
“Y/N?”
You blinked, angling your head to the side as Matt shot out of the chair he was in. You could feel the warmth of his hand and you smiled, your fingers closing around his until the memory of how you got here hit you like it had just happened.
You exhaled sharply and Matt stiffened, frowning.
“Alex. Matt, Alex he… he was in the backseat. He…”
“Shh.” Matt squeezed your hand tighter. “It’s okay. Alex is fine, alright? Kelly just brought him out to get a snack. But he’s fine. Dr Scott looked him over. He had a few scratches but that was it. Breathe.”
Relief flooded your system now as your body relaxed, only the pain left throbbing through your system.
But at least Alex was safe. That was something.
Matt sighed, his hand going to the top of your head as he leaned in and pressed a kiss to your forehead. “Thank god.” He whispered.
The whisper brought with it the unease and fear he’d been holding on to ever since he’d spotted your car lying on its side in the middle of the road.
“Sorry.” You whispered back, as Matt looked back down at you, as if he was afraid to take his eyes off you.
Matt shook his head with a small smile. “I’m just glad you’re okay.”
He looked like he wanted to say something more before he was interrupted by Kelly and Alex coming back in. “Mama!”
You smiled, as Matt took Alex from Kelly’s arms.
“Hey you.” Kelly said, leaning in for a gentle hug.
“Thanks Uncle Kelly.” You answered, smiling as Kelly gave you an affectionate tap.
Matt lowered Alex onto your bed where he gently cuddled into your side and Matt just smiled, before he leaned in to put the both of you into his embrace.

she's alright, i guess
Pairing: Stellaride x SeverideDaughter!Reader
Requested: yes, by anon
Summary: Y/N hasn’t been very welcoming towards having Stella in their lives, but when she’s faced with a situation, Stella proves to Y/N that she’s in her corner.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Word Count: 2.2K+
Tags/Warnings: Dad!Kelly, mentions of attempted assault, single parent, victim shaming
A/N: This is a different kind of request/fic from what I've written for OC so far but I was pretty intrigued by it so I decided to give it a go. Not opening requests for daughter fics at the moment still because I’m not sure how this turned out yet so let me know what you guys think!
STELLARIDE MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You looked up from where you’d been playing with the food on your plate, only to catch Stella smile at your father who was sitting next to you.
Resisting the urge to make a face, you turned to look at him. “Can I be excused?”
Kelly gave a small sigh and turned to look at you, looking like he wanted to say something and then deciding against it, merely nodding. “Yeah, go on.”
You gave his girlfriend a last withering look before you took your plate back into the kitchen.
Kelly suppressed an audible sigh before he looked back at Stella. “Sorry.”
Stella smiled and shook her head. “She just needs some time.”
You rolled your eyes and headed back to your room, plopping yourself down on your bed and staring up at your ceiling.
It wasn’t really that you didn’t like Stella. Hell, you’d been okay with her before you found out she was dating your father.
As far as daughters went, you were sure that you were at least three times more protective over your father than your classmates were about their own parents.
Maybe it had something to do with the fact that you only ever had Kelly growing up. You’d overheard countless discussions about people telling him that it was hard being a single parent especially with his job but whatever anyone said, and however Kelly had felt from the first time he’d found out he’d had a daughter and come to get you, Kelly had stuck it out with you.
Over the years, especially once you were older, you’d seen many girlfriends come and go - some didn’t want commitment, some ran the moment they found out about you, some just… didn’t make it. It didn’t matter that Kelly had seemed fine with everything. You were not, so all that had done was make you even more protective over him.
So when you’d found out about Stella, you’d felt your hackles raise.
Logically, you knew Stella had done nothing to deserve this but your 15 year old brain couldn’t seem to override the emotion with logic.
You lay there for a while more until there was a knock on your door and Kelly poked his head in.
“Hey kiddo. Can we talk?”
You sat up but didn’t give him an answer because you knew very well what he wanted to talk about and you weren’t sure you wanted to hear it.
Kelly came in anyway, pulling out the chair at your desk and sitting across from you.
“Will you give Stella a break?”
You looked up with a look of protest and Kelly held up a hand.
“I know.” Kelly said in a low voice, giving you a small smile to show you he wasn’t mad. “Just lighten up a little and give her a chance. That’s all I’m asking.”
You didn’t say anything but Kelly let out a chuckle as you pursed your lips. “Go easy.”
He pressed a kiss to the top of your head before patting your hair affectionately and leaving the room.
Tumblr media
You pulled your jacket tighter around you, glancing behind you.
You hadn’t meant to let it get so late but you’d gotten a little too immersed in your notes and lost track of time. Other than the wind blowing against your back and making you shiver, you hadn’t realized how quiet the road from your friend’s house was.
You kind of regretted not calling Kelly to come and get you, but you also didn’t relish the idea of waiting here so you’d forged on, telling yourself you’d walked this street thousands of times.
But now, you were pretty sure someone was following you, hearing the echoing footsteps behind you.
Damn it.
Your hands that were jammed into your pockets closed around your phone but you were also worried things would escalate so you picked up your pace instead.
You heard the footsteps behind you match the increase in your speed and just as you thought you should break into a run, you were yanked backwards and unable to maintain your balance, you tumbled onto the concrete pavement, feeling the concrete scrape against your skin.
Your head snapped upwards, feeling your heart fall straight into your gut when you looked back into the face of the man that now towered over you.
It was a stranger, not a face you remembered seeing, but his lips ticked upwards in a smile that flipped your stomach over and your gut feeling as well as every nerve in your body was screaming at you to get up and run.
Flight.
You scrambled to your feet, slowly moving backwards as he now stepped towards you. His movements had slowed, like a predator that had just cornered his prey.
He took another step towards you and with well chosen timing, you brought your knee up swiftly, just like how Kelly had taught you.
Winded, the man bent over but not before letting out a growl.
You didn’t stick around long enough to find out what he had to say, your legs already moving before your brain realized you were running.
The wind blowing against you was painful but you didn’t dare stop because you weren’t sure if he was on your heels.
You turned the corner, sparing a glance back and collided straight into someone.
“Sorry.” You panted, glancing up.
“Y/N?” Stella looked surprised to see you before her expression switched to one of concern. “What’s wrong?”
Stella glanced up at the empty street behind you and then looked back at you. “You okay?”
You really didn’t have the energy for anything else. You just really needed an adult. You glanced up at her without talking and Stella reached for your hand.
When you didn’t pull away, Stella squeezed. “Do you want me to take you home?”
You shook your head quickly. “No. Wait. I just… I don’t want Dad to see me like this.”
Stella studied you for just a second more before she nodded. “My apartment’s just around the corner. Why don’t you come and have something at my place and we can talk? If you want to.”
You hesitated for just a second but you were still kind of spooked so you nodded, letting her lead you back down from where she came from, not even realizing your hand was still in hers.
Tumblr media
Stella wasn’t exaggerating when she said her apartment was around the corner.
Within five minutes, you were seated on Stella’s couch, a cup of hot tea in your hands while you found yourself telling her what happened.
It was weird - you’d expected Stella to maybe pat your shoulders a little to reassure you that things would be fine before trying to convince you to call Kelly so he could come and get you. She wouldn't be the first girlfriend to hand you back over to your father as soon as she could.
But the emotions on Stella’s face as you told her were new to you - looks of concern, before outrage and then… if you didn’t know any better, you’d think she was upset.
You fell quiet after a while and Stella scooted a little closer to you.
“Alright, Y/N, listen.” Stella said and you looked up at her. “We have to report this.”
You looked back down again, your index fingers twirling together even though you were still holding the mug.
“I’ll come with you.” Stella paused. “If you’ll let me.”
You looked up again and nodded quietly. "You… You’d do that?”
You registered a look of surprise on Stella’s face before she next spoke. “Of course, Y/N.”
“Can we not call my dad yet?”
There was a small silence and you held back a sigh. You knew what would happen if your father found out about this. Other than the fact that you hated making him worry and that you knew things might get blown up out of proportion with practically everyone getting involved, it was kind of awkward talking to him about some stuff.
Stella glanced at you. “How about we take things one step at a time?”
You bit your lip and Stella nodded encouragingly at you. “Let’s go to the district and then when you’re ready, we can call Kelly alright?”
You nodded quietly, taking another sip of tea before Stella smiled. “Ready?”
You got up and Stella grabbed an extra coat off her coat hanger, draping it around your shoulders.
Tumblr media
Stella had been told to wait outside while you gave your statement to the uniformed police officer sitting across from you but you were regretting this with each question the officer asked you.
“What were you doing out so late?”
“Is this what you normally wear to school?
You were done with the insinuations in his voice and tone. You were 15, not an idiot. You knew exactly where this was going and you’d been around your father’s friends long enough to pick some stuff up.
You stood all of a sudden, the nails digging into your palms in an effort not to let the angry tears out. “I’m not answering any more questions.”
“What do you…”
You didn’t let him finish his sentence, opening the door and stalking out.
As promised, Stella was right outside, glancing up as you walked out, reading the expression on your face instantly.
“You okay?”
You pulled Stella’s jacket tighter around yourself. “I just want to go home.”
Stella frowned, glancing up at the officer that was now outside the room as well. “You still have to answer a few questions. You can’t just…”
You didn’t move and Stella looked back down at you. “Y/N?”
“He hasn’t asked me a single question about what happened.” You said in a low voice, focusing only on Stella now. “No questions about how the man looked, what street this took place on, how he sounded.”
Stella frowned. Those were enough for her to put together a few pieces of the puzzle.
“Those are necessary questions. We need to know if…”
“Kidd. Y/N.”
You glanced up at a familiar face and Stella patted your back. “Told you I got you.” She whispered in a low voice so only you could hear.
Stella nodded with a smile at Hailey.
Telling the officer she’d take over, Hailey led you back into the room and smiled encouragingly at you.
“Stella called me. Will you tell me what happened?”
It was easier than you’d expected to talk to Hailey but even as you told her what happen, you found yourself internally steeling yourself for a lecture of some sort and you suddenly just really wished Kelly was here.
But Hailey offered no lecture or talking-to. Instead, she treated you like an adult, taking down the information you offered, her questions only revolving around important information she obviously needed, before she closed the book.
“Thank you, Y/N. Here.” Hailey handed you a small bottle and a small device. “Pepper spray and a small panic button.”
You looked up a little surprised and Hailey smiled. “If nothing, maybe it’ll help you feel safer.”
You nodded, keeping the things she handed you and Hailey came around and squeezed your shoulder before taking you out of the room again where Stella was waiting.
“Dad must be worried, I…”
Stella shook her head with a smile. “I told him you’re with me so he wouldn’t. I can call him if you’re ready.”
You felt involuntary tears well up in your eyes before you nodded. "Can you? I... I think I really need him."
Kelly was here in record time, running up the steps of the district as if he’d been waiting nearby in the first place but you didn’t care. The rush of relief and safety when you saw him made you wonder why you hadn’t gone to him immediately anyway.
“Y/N!”
You didn’t say anything, merely shooting off your seat to dive into your father’s arms like you were a child once again.
“You okay? Let me see.” Kelly pulled away just a little to look at you but other than remnants of the startled look in your eyes and new tears ready to spill over, you weren’t really hurt.
Kelly gently pulled you back into his arms and exhaled. “Thank god.”
He was never one for long verbal communications of how much he loved you but you didn’t really need him to tell you. This was even more apparent now as you were huddled in your father’s arms in the middle of a police district.
“You must be starving.” Kelly said after a while, looking down at you to wipe a stray tear off your face. “Why don’t we go get something to eat, hmm?”
You gave a small crooked smile and Kelly looked up, meeting Stella’s eyes.
“I’ll call you tomorrow.” Kelly said with a small apologetic smile at Stella. “Thank you.”
Stella nodded, but you interrupted them. “You’re not coming to eat with us?”
Kelly raised his eyebrows.
“Thought I’d give you two some private time.” Stella said, although she seemed to be weighing the look in your eyes now.
You shrugged. “You can come eat with us, too.”
Kelly glanced between his girlfriend and daughter. “Did something happen?”
You shrugged, lowering your voice. “She’s alright I guess.”
Kelly chuckled, swinging an arm around your shoulders as he led you out of the district. Stella fell into step on your other side and you smiled up at her. “Thank you.” You whispered, fully aware your father could hear you.
Stella smiled. “Thank you, too.”
Kelly just smiled at both his girls as the three of you walked down the empty streets. Together.

JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
1
The first time Jay tried to propose, he’d taken you out for a date.
He’d decided this weeks ago, when he looked over at you where you were sitting next to him in bed. Your finger was moving across your lit phone screen as you scrolled through whatever you were looking at, mildly complaining about what had happened that day at work. And it had hit him out of nowhere.
So he’d gone to Will to get his mother’s ring, but ever since he’d taken it with him, it had alternated between sitting in a dark corner of his closet where you wouldn’t find it, or buried deep in his pocket.
Now, the ring sat in his pocket, feeling like it weighed a ton, while you sat across from him, totally unsuspecting as you ate, smiling up at him before you launched into your new story of the day.
As he listened to you talk with a fond smile on his face, one of his hands reached into his pocket, closing around the ring box.
“Y/N, listen. I…” The words were just at his lips, the ring box almost out of his pocket now, a mere inch away from allowing the warm yellow light of the restaurant’s lights to hit it when there was a crash from just a few tables away.
Both your heads whipped up instinctively, and before anyone could say anything more, both you and Jay were already on the move. Your napkin fluttered to the floor as you got to your feet and rushed over to where the man was already on the ground.
“Sir? Can you hear me?” You called to him immediately, as you bent closer to him to check his breathing.
You glanced up towards Jay who nodded quietly at you from where he was already on the phone with dispatch.
You looked up at the crowd that was pressing around. “Hi guys, can we give him some space, some room to breathe, alright?”
“Do you know what you’re doing?”
You didn’t need to look up to know it would be another pretentious face looking down at you.
You held back a sigh. “I’m a paramedic. Everyone just…”
Jay looked up, registering immediately that you were having a little trouble with crowd control, returning back to allow you to focus on the guy who was on the floor.
Before long, his eyes fluttered open.
“Sir?”
He groaned and you gently pushed his shoulder back down onto the floor. “Listen, I’m a paramedic. You passed out so try not to move and the ambulance will be here soon, alright?”
Before long, the paramedics that were actually on duty arrived. “Y/L/N?”
You smiled and shrugged at the paramedic that had walked in before you turned back to the man on the ground. “You’re in good hands.”
After giving your colleagues a summary of the symptoms you had witnessed, Jay’s hands were already gently helping you to your feet.
“Dinner’s ruined, I guess?” You asked and Jay just gave you a small smile of defeat, the ring still sitting at the bottom of his pocket.
2
The second time, Jay had arranged for dinner at another restaurant, ready for another try.
Until he’d gotten a call from Will that you were in the ED.
The ring bouncing along in his coat pocket as he ran, Jay burst into the ED, Maggie directing him to a treatment room with reassurances that you were fine falling on deaf ears.
“Jay?” You asked, as your boyfriend practically burst into the room.
“I told you I was fine and he didn’t need to be here.” You spoke, a reproachful tone creeping into your voice as you glanced at Will.
Will put his hands up in surrender. “Do not get me involved in this. I relayed everything you told me.”
Jay’s eyes were still looking you up and down and you read his expression almost instantly.
“J.” You waited till his green eyes met yours. “I’m fine. Look, uncooperative and mildly violent patients are kind of in the job description.”
Jay’s eyes narrowed.
“Usually if the rest of the firefighters are there it generally goes off without a hitch but you know how it is. I got off with a few scratches and a slight concussion. It gives me a good excuse to rest. I don’t even have to stay in.” You paused, swinging your head towards Will. “Right?”
Will nodded. “Yeah, you can take her back after this.”
Jay leaned in to press a kiss to the top of your head. “I’ll cancel the reservation and we’ll order in tonight okay? Just to be safe.”
You smiled and nodded, welcoming the physical contact as Jay swallowed down a sigh.
3
You grinned back at Jay as the waitress put down the greasy big breakfast platter in front of you and he just returned you a fond smile.
Third time’s a charm.
Jay had been telling himself this since he’d woken up that morning and put the ring box discreetly into his pocket. Breakfast wasn’t his idea of an ideal date followed by a proposal but he figured that maybe, just maybe, if he was lucky he’d be able to pop the question before the madness of the day for the both of you started.
You were about halfway through your breakfast when Jay thought he'd better get his ass moving. He reached down towards his pocket just as his phone rang.
Jay sighed, giving you a look and you just smiled, putting another spoonful of eggs into your mouth as he answered his phone.
“Halstead.”
You glanced up from your plate, knowing the words that were about to come out of his mouth before he’d even hung up the phone.
“Babe, I’m sorry.”
You frowned. “Jay, we talked about this. I’m fine and I have to go in to the firehouse after this anyway.”
Something seemed a little different with him today and you reached out for his hand. “Hey. Everything’s okay right?” You asked.
Jay smiled and nodded, getting up and heading towards your side of the table without letting your hand go. “Yeah. Today was supposed to be a nice breakfast date, that’s all.”
You gave a small chuckle. “Go on, Detective. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Jay exhaled, almost like a sigh before he pressed a kiss to your forehead, squeezing your hand one more time and headed out towards his truck parked right outside.
Jay took one last look back at you, where you smiled at him before he pushed open the door stepping out onto the street, muttering under his breath.
“Third time’s a charm my ass.”
4
Jay was determined to get it right this time.
So he’d made sure to put in time off for this weekend when you were also off work so that he could take you out.
“A picnic? We haven’t done this since…”
Jay nodded. “Since we started dating.”
You raised an eyebrow back at him. “Exactly. So, what’s up?”
“Why does something have to be up?” Jay smiled, the way he did when he was being slightly cheeky and wanting to tease you.
You gave in with a smile and a small shake of your head. “Let’s go my big baby.”
So you allowed Jay to drag you to the park. He’d prepared everything - food, a blanket for the both of you to sit on, he’d even brought along your shades so you could lie flat on your back and watch the clouds move without straining your eyes.
“Admit it, you’re enjoying this.”
You turned to glance at Jay where he was lying next to you, his arm serving as the most comfortable headrest for you.
“Yeah, this was a great idea.” You told Jay, inching towards him just a little more so you were cuddled more snugly into his side as you turned your eyes back towards the sky.
Jay hummed with satisfaction, glancing at you before he reached into his pocket, his hands closing around the ring box finally…
And then a scream ripped through the park before a deadly silence followed.
The both of you shot into an upright position, glancing at each other with foreboding looks. People within your line of vision seemed to be looking around for the source, until you saw them.
“Jay.”
A guy wielding a knife that was already bloodied, another one stumbling, the dark red patch of blood across his abdomen visible even from here.
Great.
Jay cast one last look at you. “Be careful.”
You nodded, as the both of you got to your feet.
“Hey!” Jay yelled, as the guy holding the knife shrugged off the guy behind him and started running. You ran towards the victim now who had crumpled onto the floor, getting to your knees by his side.
“I need you to call 911, alright?” You told a guy who was standing nearby and he nodded, fumbling with his cell phone as you turned back to the patient.
“Hi, my name is Y/N. I’m a paramedic, alright? What’s your name?” You asked shedding off your jacket quickly and balling it up before pressing it down against his wound.
“Max.” He said, his breath coming out a little shallow.
You nodded, looking at him. “Alright, Max, look at me. I need you to hang in there for a while, alright?”
You felt his breathing get a little shallower and you glanced around, catching the thought of “why does this always happen” before you focused again.
“Coming through!”
The familiar voice made you look up. “Courtney?”
“Y/N?” Courtney glanced up, slightly confused until she saw that you weren’t in uniform. “Thick of things, huh?”
You smiled and shook your head before turning back to the patient. “Max, Courtney here’s a friend and she’s going to get you to the hospital alright?”
You let the paramedics take over before you spoke in a lower voice. “Stab wound but I don’t know how deep. His breathing is a little shallow but he was alert the whole time.”
Courtney nodded. “Thanks, Y/N. We got it from here.”
As Courtney and her partner took Max back towards the ambulance on the stretcher, you glanced around.
There was no sign of Jay, which kind of worried you, so you got up, your bloodstained jacket still lying on the ground, your hands still stained with blood as you glanced around.
Quietly, you headed towards the direction Jay had run in, your eyes raking across the park worriedly.
Then you spotted him, heading in your direction.
“Jay.” His name left your lips along with a sigh of relief as he spotted you and jogged towards you, before he paused.
“Are you hurt?” He asked, his voice going up a few notches like it did when he was worried.
That’s when you looked down, realizing that blood had gotten on your clothes too.
You shook your head. “I’m okay. But you…”
Jay enveloped you gently into his embrace. “It’s okay, it’s just a few scratches. We’re okay.”
You just sighed into his embrace, feeling him press you gently against him.
5
Maybe it was trying to propose outside that was the problem. Because Jay refused to believe in what other people called signs. Screw this, he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with you.
So this time, he was going to come home, have a quiet dinner with you and then he would propose. He was sure of it.
But when he got home, you were standing at the counter, one of your hands gripping the edge of the table as you leaned forward.
“Babe?”
You didn’t answer him, trying your best to stay upright as your stomach contracted again.
You heard the clatter of the keys down onto the counter before he headed towards you. “Hey, baby. What’s…”
He paused, noticing the way one of your hands was pressing down on your abdomen.
“Alright, I got you.” Jay said, easily scooping you into his arms and heading towards the couch.
You groaned. “This sucks.”
“I know.” Jay said, his voice dropping lower as he tried to make you as comfortable as he could. “I’m sorry.”
Jay mentally rolled his eyes. Of course it would be the day you were battling with cramps, with your temperature bordering a little on a fever. This happened once in a while so he wasn't especially worried, but it had to be today.
He was back soon after, with a hot water bottle that he handed to you, before he scooted in next to you so you could put your head in his lap.
Soothingly, Jay ran his fingers through your hair. “I’ll order Chinese, let’s get something hot in you and we can watch something that makes you happy.”
You turned your face up to look at him.
“What?” He asked with a small smile.
“Watching something that makes me happy.” You answered.
Jay chuckled, leaning down to press his lips gently against yours. “At least you can joke.”
You groaned as another cramp hit you and Jay put a gentle hand on your head, reaching out with his other hand for yours, squeezing it gently.
“Sorry, baby.” Jay whispered, the ring box still sitting securely in his jacket pocket hanging by the door.
And One
Jay put a hot drink in your hand and draped the blanket over your shoulders as you stood at the windows, watching the snow attack Chicago.
The television was still on, the newscaster sharing updates about how everyone was advised to stay indoors as conditions outside could be dangerous.
Jay pulled his arms around your middle, resting his chin on your shoulder quietly. You smiled, feeling an extra bout of warmth as Jay pressed his body close to you.
“Guess we’re stuck here.” You said quietly. “I’m glad you’re home.”
Jay nodded, nuzzling his face gently into your neck. “So am I.” He whispered.
The both of you stood there for a while, before you glanced back at him. “You hungry? We still have those frozen lasagnas, I can whip them up. We shouldn’t starve to death in here.”
Jay chuckled and nodded, pressing a kiss to your cheek. “Thank you baby.”
As the sounds of you moving around in the kitchen filled the quiet apartment, the idea hit Jay so suddenly he felt like an idiot for not thinking of it sooner.
It was perfect. The both of you were on legitimate time off from work, the storm in Chicago was preventing either of you from leaving the house or from anyone knocking on your door. Effectively cut off from the world was exactly what Jay needed.
Taking the opportunity that had presented itself, Jay quietly took the ring box from his coat and slipped it into his pocket, figuring he’d play this by ear.
He didn’t have long to wait since the both of you had to wait for the frozen food to be ready anyway so he’d taken out a wine bottle and you smiled.
“Maybe I kind of like getting stuck.” You said quietly, as you quietly clinked your glass with Jay.
Jay smiled. “You do?”
“If it’s with you.” You answered back with a smile, taking a sip of wine before you leaned in closer to him.
Then Jay pulled back.
You froze, a confused expression crossing your face as Jay slipped off the bar chair he was sitting on at the counter next to you.
“Jay?” You asked, a slight tone of insecurity slipping out as his name rolled off your tongue.
“I’ve been trying to do this for months, and I kept searching for the perfect moment, the perfect setting but then I realized…” He paused. “I realized any moment, any setting is perfect as long as you’re in it with me.”
Jay sank to one knee and you couldn’t help the small gasp that escaped your lips.
“Y/N Y/L/N, will you marry me?”
You blinked back at him, frozen, like you couldn’t believe this was happening.
Jay didn’t push even though you saw his expression shift like he was worried he’d said something wrong.
“Jay Halstead, I will most definitely marry you.”
Jay smiled, slipping the ring onto your finger and you knew. You knew the significance of this ring, the Halsteads had joked about it enough in front of you, back when you and Jay had just been friends. And yet it was now sitting on your finger. Because Jay had decided on you.
Jay got to his feet now, pulling you tighter against him before he leaned down to give you a deep sealing kiss and you melted into his arms, knowing that this was the man you could entrust your lifetime to.
“I love you.” Jay whispered, as he pulled away slightly, his lips still hovering inches from you.
“I love you.” You said, pressing another kiss onto his lips as the oven dinged, signaling to the both of you that dinner was ready, as were the both of you to step forward, together.

KELLY SEVERIDE MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
“Yo, Sev.”
Kelly blinked back at his best friend who was now sitting across from him. A look crossed Matt’s face as he turned back to see what or who Kelly had been watching, before a small smile flit across his face.
“You know…” Matt started, but Kelly shook his head, cutting him off.
“We are not doing this again.” Kelly told his best friend.
You glanced over your shoulder, your eyes finding Kelly naturally where he was talking to Matt, before Gabby motioned towards you and you slid off your chair to head towards her and Sylvie, just for a bit.
Matt glanced back one last time, just as Gabby had called you away before he turned back towards Kelly.
You and Kelly had been friends for a long time and Kelly had been carrying feelings for you for a long time. Kelly still remembered Shay nagging him about it as if it was yesterday and he knew if Shay was here now she’d already be kicking his non-moving ass. But the timing had never seemed right.
Every single time that he’d thought of telling you, something had gotten in the way. So somewhere along the way, Kelly had somehow convinced himself that the universe was telling him not to do it. Besides, it felt stupid to rock a peaceful boat.
Matt was in the middle of his sentence when Kelly frowned, his head swiveling back towards the bar.
“Seriously, Sev, you…” Matt’s voice trailed off as he saw what had caught Kelly’s eye.
A sandy-haired guy was now leaning casually against the bar, where your unattended drink lay as he looked around, before he dropped a pill into your drink, the tablet fizzling in your beer now.
“That did not just…” Matt glanced at Kelly, speaking in a low voice.
Kelly pushed his chair backwards and swam through the crowd of people that were entering Molly’s now, reaching you just as you’d returned back to your original seat and put the glass up to your lips, the guy long gone.
Kelly snatched it back out of your hands and away from you, the liquid sloshing around in your glass.
“What the hell, Kelly?” You growled, pulling back a little when you noticed the look in his eyes. “What?”
Kelly cast a dark look behind him but the guy had been lost in the crowd. Matt came up to him, shaking his head and Kelly looked back down at the drink.
“Get her out of here. I’ll call Antonio.” Matt said, patting Kelly’s shoulder.
You raised your eyebrows, exchanging a confused look with Gabby before Kelly practically shoved you out of Molly’s, which wasn’t easy in the first place since the place was packed.
As the cold outside air hit you, you spun around to look at Kelly. “Will you tell me what’s going on now?”
You didn’t sound as harsh as you had inside because there was a look in his eyes that told you he wasn’t trying to be funny.
Kelly glanced down at you. “I told you not to leave your drinks unattended.” His voice was reproachful but you could hear he was worried.
“I… wait, what?”
Kelly gave you a pointed look, glancing down at the empty street. “Come on, let’s go.”
Being roommates had its perks, you mused as Kelly fell into step next to you, letting go of your elbow when he realized he was still holding onto you and that you were sober.
You glanced up at Kelly but he was looking straight ahead and you just smiled to yourself, catching yourself wondering why you were still hopelessly in love with your best friend when you knew that he would never see you as anything more than that.
Tumblr media
Antonio had called Matt and Kelly to let them know that based on the footage Herrmann had provided them, the limited eyewitness accounts and the MO, this was a guy that Intelligence had been trying to find in connection with a couple of sexual assaults, adding that if they were lucky they could add kidnapping to the existing charges.
But this guy was smart. He’d made sure to only strike in crowded bars, where women were alone or easily distracted. There were limited eyewitness accounts, and bars made it easy for friends to overlook someone who’d disappeared since she could easily have gone off willingly with a date.
Kelly glanced at his watch as he headed up to Molly’s. He was a little later than he would have liked but he’d been held back by a case from OFI.
Molly’s was packed as usual for a Friday night and he frowned when he didn’t spot you immediately so he headed towards the bar. Maybe you’d taken off because he was late.
“Dawson, you seen Y/N tonight?”
Gabby looked up from where she was quickly mixing a drink. “Yeah, she’s right…” Her voice trailed off as her eyes found your empty chair.
Kelly glanced in that direction, noticing your phone lying on the table.
“She was right there a second ago.” Gabby told him. “Kelly, I’m sorry we’re swamped tonight and I…”
Kelly shook his head. “I’m gonna go look for her. If anyone in Intelligence or Casey comes in…”
Gabby nodded quickly, as Kelly disappeared towards the back.
He’d barely taken two steps out towards where the dumpsters were when he caught a movement, the same sandy hair he recognized from a week ago, with you slumped against his body as he tried to push you into a car.
Damn it.
“Hey!”
Kelly charged towards them as the guy tried his best to remain nonchalant.
“Can I help you? As you can see, I'm trying to take my girl home.” He said, glancing down at you before back at Kelly. "You know how it is."
A low growl escaped Kelly’s lips. “Get your hands off her.” Kelly leaned forward to take your hand, tugging you out of the stranger’s grasp and into his arms, amid your mumbled protests about getting into a car.
Kelly tightened an arm around you as the guy glanced down the street warily and he tugged you further back, away from the stranger.
“I suggest you don’t get involved.” He warned Kelly. “Just mind your own business.”
His arm still holding you tightly against him, Kelly growled. “She is my business. She is my girl, you picked the wrong ass target.” He glanced down at you before sweeping his head back up to look at the guy standing in front of him now, feeling the anger course through his body.
The guy stepped forward and Kelly growled in warning. On any other day, Kelly could take this guy down but now with you in tow…
Kelly stiffened, angling his body to try to shield you, before the sirens hit, the truck that Kelly recognized as Jay’s pulling up right at the front of the alley, as shouts of “Chicago PD!” came from all sides.
Kelly exhaled, putting another arm around you to steady you, as your head lolled against him.
“You guys okay?” Antonio turned to glance at Kelly as Adam shoved the guy against his own car and cuffed him.
Kelly glanced down at you. “Y/N, you with me?”
You mumbled something and Kelly shook his head. “That son of a bitch gave her something.”
Antonio nodded at Jay to take the both of you to Med straight away and Kelly swept you easily into his arms and into Jay’s truck, before Jay pressed down on the accelerator heading straight for the hospital.
Tumblr media
Kelly glanced at you, lying in bed, your eyes still closed.
Will had already been by to explain that the dosage hadn’t been high but that they’d flushed out the residual drugs in your system.
“We’re getting fluids into her system. Her vitals are strong, she should be fine.”
Kelly looked up when there was a knock at the door and Jay slipped in.
There was silence for a beat before Kelly spoke. “So what happened, Jay? Did Dawson call?”
“We'd already narrowed him down as a suspect, but we couldn’t arrest him with nothing. So we’d been tracking him.”
Kelly glanced at Jay now. “So what, Y/N was bait?”
Jay put his hands up. “Woah, Kelly. Not by a long shot.” He paused. “We didn’t expect him to hit the same bar, or the same girl. We already had a tracker on him, so when we noticed him heading for Molly’s, we hightailed it there. As far as I know, Gabby called while we were already on the way.”
Kelly glanced down at you before he glanced up and nodded. “Sorry.” He paused. “And thanks. I wasn’t sure how I was going to handle it with her unconscious and this guy…”
Jay patted Kelly on the shoulder, just as you stirred.
“Y/N?” Kelly’s head snapped up and Jay nodded, quietly leaving the room to give the both of you some privacy.
Your eyes fluttered open, before you sat up with a shock. “Wait, what… Kelly?”
“Shhh, it’s okay. We’re at Med, alright?”
You felt your heart rate slow, conscious of the fact that your hand was held tightly in Kelly’s. “I…”
Kelly gave you a look. “I thought we agreed to be careful with our drinks.”
“I was.” You argued, though your voice was still soft as your head pounded. “I swear, I didn’t leave my drink unattended. I don’t even… wait.”
Kelly raised an eyebrow, moving closer towards you. “There was this guy…” You said, looking up at Kelly. “He was hovering around me, maybe I took my eyes off for like a second, I… I’m sorry, Kelly.”
Kelly couldn’t even find it in himself to be mad at you like he normally would be, his features softening as he sighed. “I’m glad you’re alright.”
You gave him a small smile, pausing before you glanced at him. “Did you mean it?”
“Hmm? What?” Kelly asked a little absentmindedly, turning to see if he could spot Will.
“What you said to that creep.”
Kelly froze, realizing that you hadn’t been totally out of it.
You hadn’t. In fact, you’d been awake for most of it, just lightheaded, lethargic, and feeling like you couldn’t control your own body.
Kelly exhaled, realizing he was screwed. He didn’t have much of a choice right now. So even with the irrational worry that something was going to go wrong, or the fear that this would change things between the both of you forever, he took a deep breath and glanced back down at you, right into your eyes.
“Every word, Y/N. Every word.”
You felt your stomach tumble inside you, and heard your heart rate increase from the machine sitting right next to you that was totally betraying you right now.
“Kelly…”
Kelly shook his head. “Look, I don’t want you to feel burdened by my feelings. Nothing has to change, we just…”
“Kelly Severide.” You interrupted him.
Kelly blinked back at you.
“For once, will you let me finish before you jump like twenty steps ahead?” You nagged, although a small smile appeared on your face. “I’ve always wanted to be that person.”
“What?” Kelly frowned, confused.
“Your person.” You clarified. “Always. Shay wouldn’t leave me alone about it.”
A look crossed over Kelly’s face that told you he finally got what you were saying and he smiled, closing the distance between you and pressing his lips firmly on yours, one hand cupping the side of your face.
“Finally.” You could almost hear Shay’s voice ring out in your ears.
You smiled against Kelly’s touch, as he pulled away and you looked back into his green eyes before he leaned down for a hug. “I love you.” He whispered, pressing his lips onto your temple now.
“I love you too, Kelly Severide. Always have." You whispered, as you saw Kelly smile.

HALSTEAD!SISTER MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
“Y/N?”
An incredulous look crossed Jay’s face, like he couldn’t believe what he was seeing - you, standing right in front of his door.
Before you knew it, Jay was right in front of you, pulling you into his arms and lifting you off the ground as if you were a small child once again yet you couldn’t help the laugh that burst out of you. A genuine laugh that you felt hadn’t left your lips in months.
“What are you doing here?”
You gave him a look. “Seriously? We’re doing this out here? With my luggage?”
Jay smiled. “Give it here.” He took your carrier before he opened his door, pushing it open with his foot so you could step into his apartment.
Jay’s apartment was almost like how you remembered it, as if almost no time had passed since you’d gone off to study and decided to stay in Europe for some experience. You knew your brothers would have preferred for you to at least return to America but they also agreed that you needed to do what you felt was right.
But it really was nice to be home.
“Does Will know you’re back?” Jay asked, handing you a glass of water. When you didn’t answer immediately, he narrowed his eyes. “You went to his place first, didn’t you?”
You let out a small guilty laugh at his accusatory tone and shrugged. “I figured he was the one with more regulated hours. But I couldn’t find a Halstead there. He moved?”
Jay nodded. “Yeah, you know things happen.”
You nodded absentmindedly. “At least you didn’t.”
“That’s kind of the reason I didn’t.” Jay said with a smile.
You looked up. “What if our baby sister couldn’t find either of us?”
“I’m not a baby.” You shot back.
Jay let out a chortle. “You will always be a baby.” He teased gently.
Tumblr media
You didn’t let on the exact reason why you were back and although Jay knew something was a little off, he didn’t push. Instead, he called Will, with a vague phone call so that you could surprise your oldest brother as well.
“Jay, I’m coming in!” Will said, his strained voice from the other side of the door telling you that he was a little worried.
The door opened, Will freezing in the door frame for a second before a look of surprise with a happy smile. “Y/N!”
You allowed the oldest Halstead to give you a tight hug, enveloping you in his arms and you felt another wave of security as well as ease wash over you, reaffirming your decision to come home.
Jay ordered in, so the three of you could spend some quiet time together, Jay’s apartment resounding with laughter like it usually did when the three of you were together.
“How long are you back for?” Will asked, taking a sip of beer.
You shrugged. “I might be staying.”
You didn’t miss the sparkle of hope in both their eyes as they glanced at each other.
“I mean if I can crash here.” You said, a slightly cheeky tone slipping into your voice.
Jay rolled his eyes. “You can have the whole freaking apartment if you want.”
You laughed. “Yeah, I just… well I missed you and I thought it was time. But I came here with no plan so you’ll have to feed me until I find a job.”
Will smiled. “I think the ED has a spot.”
You raised an eyebrow. “As long as you promise to not breathe down my neck.”
Tumblr media
You’d taken the job.
There’d been a bit of a turnover lately and Maggie needed an experienced nurse, which was just as well. You were sure being a Halstead also helped.
“Remember what you promised me.” You said through gritted teeth on your first day.
But working at Med had turned out much better than you’d expected. Other than the fact that Will had kept his promise and tried his best to keep out of your way, the people you worked with were really great. Even the paramedics and firefighters that came in were a hoot, and you’d quickly become friendly with almost everyone.
So things seemed really good.
Until it started up again.
It had seemed mostly innocent enough, getting a few missed calls from unknown numbers while you were on shift. You’d barely put any thought into it, letting the phone ring as you moved quickly through the ED, from room to room, just another day in the ED.
The mistake you made was picking up one day after your shift.
“Hello?”
When you were met with silence, you paused and repeated the greeting. “Hello?”
Now, there was a slight crackling. You frowned, pulling your phone away from your ear to make sure the call was still connected, before you took a quick screenshot and tried one more time. When there was no response still, you disconnected the call, slipping your phone back into your pocket.
You didn’t give the call much thought, especially since there were plenty of scam calls going around and you figured this was just one of those calls.
But the calls didn’t stop and you’d even asked Jay if there was anything that could be done but the numbers kept changing and based on what Jay could do at this point of time, considering there was no apparent threat, it didn’t lead to anything much.
Of course, you’d kept the frequency of the calls from Jay, which was why he wasn’t as worried as he probably should have been. You’d even kept the weird “I see you” texts from Jay since you figured it was probably some prank or a wrong number.
It only hit you one day when you were heading out of Med, alongside Will, when you thought you saw a familiar figure standing a distance away.
Your head whipped around and you felt that familiar feeling of dread, a feeling you hadn’t felt for months since you’d been back in Chicago, surrounded by friends and your brothers.
“Y/N?”
Will looked slightly concerned as he glanced over your head from where he towered over you, trying to see what had caused your reaction.
You looked back at him, before glancing over your shoulder again, where there was no one.
Maybe you were just imagining things. Maybe it was just one of those empty deja vu feelings.
You shook your head at Will with a smile. “I just thought I saw…”
Will looked like he was waiting for you to finish your sentence but you shook your head with a smile. “Come on, let’s go. Jay’s gonna complain if we’re late again.”
Will looked slightly unconvinced but smiled. “I bet he’s not even there yet.”
You didn’t respond, pulling your brother to his car, once again unaware of the pair of eyes that were watching you from afar.
Tumblr media
Jay glanced up at the clock with a sigh. The bullpen was already empty and he’d wanted to be home slightly earlier today so he could have a meal with you. But looking at the time, you’d probably be at least half asleep by the time he got home.
His phone buzzed just as he pushed his chair back, stretching as he did. With a small smile, he leaned over to answer the call on speaker, sure you were just going to whine over the phone about him being late and probably asking for some late night snack.
“I’m leaving, I swear. What can I get you?” Jay spoke with an amused smile, grabbing his jacket.
But the words that bounced back at him made him freeze in his tracks.
“What are you doing here?”
Your voice shook slightly with an emotion that sounded a lot like fear.
Jay frowned, quickly shrugging on his jacket, grabbing his phone and rushing down the steps. He couldn’t hear much of what the other person was saying, so he just pushed himself faster, speeding past the front desk his phone still pressed against his ear, barely hearing Trudy’s “Where’s the fire, Halstead?” comment before he was out the doors.
What was at most a 15 minute drive felt like forever, as Jay sped through the streets, finally pulling up outside his apartment building, not even bothering to wait for the elevator.
The door to his apartment wasn’t even shut properly, the door merely resting on the frame. Jay pulled his gun out as he’d done so many times at other places, except that he could feel the bad feeling turn his stomach over.
Jay nudged the door open with his foot, pulling his focus forward and using trained eyes to glance around his apartment.
Stuff was strewn all over the floor, pieces of broken glass from a shattered cup, leaflets spread across the floor. He knew what he was seeing - a struggle. Most definitely.
“Y/N?” He called, even though he knew it was useless. This wasn’t a random robbery or attack. You’d known the person who’d come in. You had been the target.
Even so, Jay cleared each and every corner and room, before he called Will to get him to come over before he called Voight.
It was only after he’d finished calling everyone he needed to call that the information he’d already known finally clicked into place, settling into a dark place in his chest.
Someone had taken you.
Tumblr media
Jay could hear people talking but he wasn’t processing anything, his mind trying to sift through the few months since you’d been back, trying to figure out what it was that he’d missed or what you hadn’t told them.
“Jay.”
Kim touched his elbow gently and he glanced up now, realizing he was supposed to provide some sort of response.
“What?”
Kim exhaled gently before she repeated herself. “Adam’s taking Will’s statement. I’ll try to make this quick, alright?”
“I’m working this.” Jay responded, looking Kim straight in the eye.
Kim nodded. “I don’t think Voight’s taking you off. Just talk to me, so we can work this together. That’s the fastest way we’ve got to find her. Because we will.”
Jay exhaled before he nodded, letting Kim ask the questions, swallowing down the annoyance of feeling like a victim’s family.
“She didn’t tell us anything. But she was jumpy, everytime her phone rang. She stuck a little close to us when we were out, even at Molly’s, as if she was five all over again. Damn it, I should have wrangled it out of her.”
Kim glanced up at her friend. “Jay, let’s focus, alright?” She paused and he nodded. “So she didn’t say anything?”
Jay shook his head. “She didn’t even really tell us why she was back. I bought the whole ‘new environment’ excuse for a bit, but things were a little different.”
Kim nodded. “Okay, tell me about the phone call.”
Jay exhaled slowly. “She knew this guy, I’m sure of it. But I couldn’t make out what he was saying…”
Jay looked back almost helplessly at his friend and Kim nodded. “Listen, we’ll find her.”
Jay nodded again, glancing back at the bullpen now where Will had just emerged from Voight’s office. He turned to glance at Kim again. “Let’s do this.”
Tumblr media
You glanced up now, feeling the defiance in you rise to almost the same level as your fear, the figure pacing in front of you now a familiar one. Your hands were fastened securely behind your back, the cable ties so tight they were cutting into your skin.
This was the reason you felt the need to return home standing right in front of you.
“You followed me here?” You asked, doing your best to keep your voice steady, not to betray even a sliver of the actual fear that you felt.
You were pretty sure that your frantic call to Jay had gone through, even though your phone was now probably still stuffed in the corner of the couch, where you hoped Jay or someone would find it. Which gave you a sliver of hope that was only present because of the fact that you’d returned home. At least you were in Chicago. Jay and Will would find you. You just needed to hang on until then.
“You wanted me to find you.”
You exhaled slowly, not really succeeding in blocking out his voice, the memory of the first time you’d met Tobias Mills still clear in your mind.
He’d come in after an accident in a lot of pain, so you’d done what you did best. As you assisted the doctor on call in the ED, you connected with the patient. Except that this time, it had backfired. Mills had become totally obsessed with you, so much so that you’d been forced to get a restraining order. But even that hadn’t stopped him. He’d watch you from across the street, or send you messages. To this day, you still had no idea how he’d even gotten your number. So as a last resort, before you lost your last shred of sanity, you’d left, packing your bags almost overnight and taking the first available flight straight to Chicago.
But now he was here.
What was worse was that he’d somehow managed to follow you all the way to Jay’s apartment, picked a night Jay was late and practically taken you by force.
“I should have known.” He muttered as he paced in front of you, as if he’d forgotten you were there. “This was why you turned me down. But two of them?”
His voice raised at the last question and he looked furiously at you.
“Two?!”
You flinched, even though you were trying hard not to. Even so, your brain was already putting all the pieces together. He’d stalked you, seen you with your brothers and put everything together into his own narrative. Again.
Tumblr media
Jay put down the phone a little harder than he’d meant to, but the rest of the bullpen barely flinched, like they hadn’t heard it, the sound of furious typing and vague telephone conversations not pausing.
Jay could feel his anxiety mounting as each second ticked past but he glanced towards the pantry where Will was sitting, looking down at his hands and reminded himself that at least he was able to do something and that the both of you were counting on him.
He closed his eyes for just a second, even though he knew Kim had looked up and was watching him now.
There was something missing and he knew it. There was something he was not seeing and he just needed one piece to put it all together. At least that’s how he felt.
With not much to go on, seeing as they weren’t able to find much prints, the team had tried to backtrace your steps but even finding your phone was futile because the burner phones were practically untraceable. After exhausting all possibilities in Chicago, Jay was pretty sure it was something that had followed you home from Europe. Or someone. So Intelligence had put in more efforts to try to connect with the contacts you had had there.
But there was still nothing. Jay had no idea why someone had taken you, what they wanted. He couldn’t think of anyone who wanted to hurt you, but if it was someone who wanted to hurt him, there would have been a ransom call, a message, something. The silence, the lack of knowledge, it was killing him.
Jay heard the door click open, Will motioning towards him with a flick of his head. Sighing, he pushed back his chair, knowing that nothing good would come out of going to his brother with little to no answers.
“Jay, you have to tell me something.” Will said, before the door was even fully closed. “I’m climbing the walls here.”
Jay exhaled, before he looked up at his brother. “We don’t have a lot to go on.”
There was a pause before Will spoke again. “You’re telling me you have nothing.”
Jay didn’t answer.
“Jay, you have nothing? Nothing that could help us find her? She’s out there, somewhere, scared out of her mind and there’s nothing?”
Jay couldn’t even blame Will for raising his voice. Frustration, that was all the emotion behind Will’s voice, frustration that Jay himself couldn’t even express since he was in no position to at this moment. He couldn’t, he had to focus.
Jay exhaled gently. “We’re working on it, Will.”
Will knew that, he’d just let his frustration get the better of him. He hadn’t meant to make Jay feel worse but just as he opened his mouth to tell his younger brother so, the door opened.
“Jay. I think you need to take this call.”
Without another word, Jay gave his brother a look before he headed back for the bullpen and Kim led the conversation. “Hey, Stacie. It’s Kim. Can you repeat what you just told me?”
Jay listened with quiet building anger as the girl on the line talked, explaining that she had been your roommate and had also worked alongside you at the hospital. Then she talked about the patient who’d come in and formed an unhealthy attachment to you, how he waited in front of the apartment building, how he came to the hospital, but she didn’t have a conclusion for the team.
“I don’t know what happened after that. I tried to convince her to continue staying with me so that I could look out for her but she said she didn’t want to create trouble for me. She was worried that he’d do something to me too, so…”
Kim’s eyes flicked to where Jay was gripping the edge of the table so hard, his knuckles were turning white. That sounded just like you, and that really tore at Jay. He didn’t know why you didn’t tell him, or Will. Why didn’t you call to say you were having a tough time, or tell them when you’d come home?
But Jay spoke anyway, keeping his voice so steady, a stranger wouldn’t have realized they were talking about his sister. “Do you have a name?”
Tumblr media
Tobias Mills.
Jay was now staring at the records that they’d barely managed to wrangle out of the European authorities.
Stalking. Threatening behavior. But nothing that could get him convicted.
“I got him.” Adam broke the silence, finally looking up from where he had been studying the airport footage for almost an hour.
“Facial recognition missed him because of what he’s wearing but I’m pretty sure that’s him. Right?” Adam asked, playing the footage again.
Jay gave a grunt of acknowledgement before he studied the footage playing. Tobias had reached Chicago slightly two weeks after you had and someone had met him at the airport.
“I’m on it.” Kim said, before anyone else could say anything, already running facial recognition on Mills’ acquaintance as the rest of the video played out.
Ben Mason.
Facial recognition popped quickly with a record that didn’t make Jay feel any better. Multiple counts of assault, misconduct, illegal firearm possession, the list went on.
“The money trail. Mills must have paid him for his help.” Kevin said quietly, glancing at Jay.
Jay growled, the worry blooming in his chest. What exactly had Mills paid for?
But thankfully he didn’t have much longer to blindly worry. “Mason’s uncle owned a factory that’s now out of business. As far as we can tell, it’s been abandoned for at least a year. It’s under his mother’s maiden name so…”
Kevin didn’t finish his sentence before Voight nodded. “Gear up.”
Tumblr media
You could feel your heart pumping in your chest, feel the adrenaline working through your veins as you now lay on your side, unsure where the pain was coming from, other than the cable ties cutting into your skin. Maybe the roots of your hair were still smarting from when he’d pulled your head back roughly to look at him, or maybe it was when he’d raised his leg to kick you in the chest in his frustration, making your entire body topple backwards. Or maybe it was just the ache from having your arms pulled backwards for such a prolonged time.
“If I can’t have you, no one can.”
The words echoed in the empty area, bouncing off the walls as if to intimidate you further, even though he’d left a while ago.
Mills had been prepared. That, you knew. Maybe he’d hidden you somewhere no one else would find you. Maybe that’s why Jay hadn’t come for you yet, because you had no doubt that Jay would be here if he knew where you were.
There was a slam, which signalled his return and you felt your breath pick up. You were sure that if Jay didn’t come soon, things were going to get ugly soon. He was either going to do whatever he wanted with you or kill you in a fit of rage - you didn’t know which was worse.
You tried to breathe slower, reminding yourself you weren’t going to show him fear no matter what. You didn’t raise your head as the footsteps got closer, and you wondered what he was up to. If you didn’t know any better, the footsteps sounded… tentative.
“Y/N!”
The voice you’d been waiting for, the sound of safety you’d known your entire life and you raised your head now, slightly worried that you were imagining things.
His name felt like it was stuck in your throat, the energy suddenly sucked out of you as you felt the adrenaline drop all of a sudden.
“Oh my god.” His voice swept past you, landing on you gently, just as he reached you. You heard his knees hit the ground as he bent over you. “Are you hurt?”
You still didn’t answer him, the fog in your brain worried that it wasn’t true, that when you looked up it would be Mills again.
But the pressure on your wrists lifted as Jay sliced through the cable ties. “Are you hurt?” He asked again, pulling you up against him, his eyes scanning you up and down.
“Jay?”
Jay nodded now, a small frown forming on his face. “Yeah, it’s me. You’re okay. We’re here. Will’s right outside.”
You didn’t answer but your body now slumped against your brother’s.
Jay turned and nodded at Kevin so that he could bring Will in. Jay knew it would be better to take you outside but he was a little worried about any injuries you might have and if moving you would make things worse. You couldn’t even seem to articulate if you had any injuries.
“Jay? Y/N!” Will’s voice reached you now, as he got to his knees next to Jay, his fingers going straight to feel your pulse, peering at your pupils now.
“Y/N, does anything hurt? Look at me, Y/N.”
You raised your eyes now to meet Will’s before you shook your head, the fog finally pushing back down again. “Will.”
Will let out a breath that sounded like relief, before he nodded. “Okay, if you’re not hurt we should get you out of here first. Come on.”
Jay nodded, as Will put an arm around you as well, helping you up. Jay let Will take over as he repositioned his hold on the gun in his hand, getting to his feet as well.
But what threw a wrench in their plans was the back door opening.
Both you and Will looked up at the sound of a door opening and you saw the look on Mills’ face change, the absolute wrath that crossed his face as he saw you pressed against Will’s side. Will felt your hand close around the shirt he had on, the material crumpling in your hand. Jay pressed down his confusion that Mills had gotten past the patrol cars that were supposed to be stationed out there, raising his gun.
“I told you. You’re mine.”
His sentence was cut off by a simultaneous growl from both Jay and Will as you coiled backwards.
Will’s eyes caught the flash of metal first as Mills raised the gun in his hand.
Instinctively, Will pulled you against him and turned, as if he’d done this a thousand times. You let out a sharp inhale, confused for a moment if it was really Will who was now standing between you and Mills, before the gunshot rang out.
You could feel the fear that gripped at you so hard that it felt like it was hard to breathe. You were afraid to even turn, afraid to know if Will was hurt because of you.
“Y/N, you okay?” Will’s voice in your ear.
“Will, you…”
You felt Will shake his head. “I’m okay, are you…”
That’s when you felt the energy leave your legs, your body only supported by your oldest brother’s arms around you.
You turned but Jay stepped behind Will now to block your vision. “It’s over, let’s get you out of here.”
Tumblr media
Your brothers took you to the hospital to get checked out. But other than some bruises, pain that would last a few days and some dehydration, you weren’t badly hurt.
No one had told you much details, but you were sure that the gunshot you thought was Mills shooting Will was from Jay. And if it was between Mills and Will, you were glad Jay had shot the bastard, even if it made you feel dirty inside for even thinking it when someone had died.
You could hear Jay’s voice behind the closed door, raised as he questioned someone on the line.
“What the hell do you mean? My brother and sister could have died! Any one of my team members could have been shot!”
Will turned to look at you now, giving you a small smile. He looked like he was about to say something when the door slid open, Jay stepping in and closing the door behind him.
Your brothers exchanged a look like they’d already had a discussion among themselves without you.
So you knew they wanted to talk, wanted to ask you something. It didn’t take a genius to figure that out.
“Why didn’t you tell us?” Jay broke the silence first, unable to keep the sadness out of his voice.
You glanced up, surprised. You thought he’d be pissed, like really pissed. Maybe just slightly less than the anger he’d shown while he was on the phone outside.
When both of them didn’t say anything, you let out a short breath. “The whole point of a new environment was for me to grow up. I was supposed to grow outside the shelter the both of you had created for me since I was a baby.” You paused glancing up at them. “I didn’t want to worry you. I thought I could handle it, I didn’t think he would…”
Will moved first, heading towards your side and pulling you tightly against him before he sat on the side of your bed facing you.
“You’re our younger sister. Worrying us is part of your make up. Jay worries me all the freaking time.” Will said gently, earning him an annoyed puff from the younger Halstead.
“Yeah, says Dr Halstead who got beaten up within a day since he returned to Chicago.” Jay slightly mocked, moving closer as well.
You laughed, the chuckle bursting forth and making your side ache a little.
Jay smiled at you. “Promise me something.”
You glanced up at your older brother.
“Don’t keep such serious things from us. Once it starts feeling funky, you tell one of us. Tell Kim. Tell Sylvie. I don’t care who, just tell someone.”
You were quiet for a second, before you nodded. “I promise.”
They both leaned in at the same time, Will putting a hand on the back of our head gently as they squashed you between them, the three of you emanating the same feelings, glad that you were all here together.
Home.

DEAN WINCHESTER MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
“So what, Dean? You’re telling me to give up?”
“I’m telling you to take a freaking step back and use your goddamn brains, Y/N! Instead of getting us all killed! Just like…”
Dean stopped and you looked up. He didn’t need to finish that sentence for you to know what he was going to say.
“Say it, Dean.”
“A stupid hunter is a dead hunter.”
“Like Mark? Or my parents? You know what, if I’m so stupid why do you bother keeping me around!” You turned to storm out.
“If you walk out that door, don’t you ever come back, you hear me, Y/N?”
You heard, but you kept walking.
You didn’t go back, and Dean didn’t call. Before you knew it, you’d been on the road for six months on your own, but everytime you thought about that night, or even the name Dean, it smarted and hurt. It hurt that the man you were in love with had said and thought those things about you.
But now, you glanced back down at the darkening pool of blood by your abdomen before you sunk to the ground.
You'd spent months tracking down the demon that had been responsible for the death of your parents but it seemed like an impossible task, until it wasn't. With no one's help, you'd managed to finally catch up to it except that you had absolutely no back up and no friends. And that's how you found yourself here now.
Dean had been right. You were an idiot.
You'd finally put that knife through the demon's heart, you'd killed it and exacted some form of revenge against him, but at what expense? You were now sitting in an abandoned building, leaning against a bunch of crates and probably going to die on your own - a realization that you'd had from the moment you'd first felt the knife the demon was carrying pierce through your skin while you fought with him, but it was already too late to back down. The price of revenge was death.
Maybe it was the blood loss as you sat there, cradling a wound in your side and feeling the blood leave your body that made you fumble for your phone with one hand and press the last number you could call.
Tumblr media
Bobby glanced up at Dean who was wolfing down a burger while Sam sat next to him, flipping through a research book.
"Exactly how long are you boys planning to…"
Bobby was interrupted by his phone ringing and he headed to answer it, acutely aware that it was his personal cell.
"Bobby?" Your voice reached his ears immediately, the moment he'd answered the call and Bobby frowned.
"Y/N?" Bobby asked, not missing the way that Dean's eyes shot up, although he pretended that it didn't as he averted his eyes almost immediately, looking away from Bobby and looking around the room again.
Your voice was weak, which only made Bobby more concerned. "I did it. I killed the son of a bitch. But… I don't think I'm... going to make it. I just wanted… I wanted to t-tell you… thank you. Thank y-you for everything."
Bobby was the father figure you'd needed in the aftermath of losing your parents and honestly, you couldn't have asked for anything more.
"Where are you, Y/N? Give me something, coordinates, a city or building name. Give me something." Bobby said, his voice a little strained.
You mumbled the coordinates that you'd followed to get here in the first place. "You're not going to make it. Just… w-wanted you to know…" You took another breath, trying to breathe through the pain. "…that you were like a... a father to me."
"Listen, we're going to head there now. Alright?" Bobby said quietly.
He could hear the smile in your voice. "Listen, can you tell Dean and Sam something for me?" There was a pause before you continued. "Just tell Sam that... that he was the older brother I'd always d-dreamed to have. And tell... tell Dean that... I didn't mean anything I said and that I… I love him. Always have... always will." Your voice was coming out in short breaths.
Bobby's eyes flicked to the Winchesters. Sam was paying full attention like he'd already figured something was wrong, while Dean looked like he was trying not to look interested.
"We'll be right there, don't… You're going to be fine, kiddo."
Bobby hung up the phone and glanced back at the Winchesters. Sam was already on his feet. "That was Y/N, wasn't it? What's wrong?"
"Listen, she…"
Dean put the plate he was holding down with a thud and glanced up. "It's none of our business. I told her not to come back if she left and she left anyway. I'm not…"
"You stupid idiot!" Bobby let out the outburst, stunning both Dean and Sam. "Well, boohoo, I'm sorry your feelings were hurt! I thought I pounded this into you years ago! Family, Dean. Family. Right now, the girl who just confessed her dying love for you to me on the phone is alone and bleeding out somewhere so get off your ass and get moving!"
Dean froze. "What?"
Sam glanced at his older brother. "Come on, Dean. Let's go."
Tumblr media
Throughout the whole journey towards the coordinates that you'd given Bobby, Dean was quiet. Sam didn't say anything, although he glanced at Dean a little more than he usually did.
Dean barely noticed, absolutely preoccupied with the thoughts flying around in his mind.
He'd never meant for you to disappear from their lives. Never. The fight still made his stomach churn with regret every time he thought about it - anytime he looked in his rearview mirror and saw the empty backseat. Or when he'd found something of yours somewhere in his car when he was least expecting it.
All he'd been trying to do was protect you, but he'd failed miserably at it, pushing you further away, hurting you by bringing up the death of a hunter at a hunt gone wrong when it hadn't been your fault, and now he didn't feel any better knowing that he had a part to play for the fact you were bleeding out by yourself somewhere.
The only consolation Dean got was that the coordinates were not far. They'd be able to get to you in time. He'd make sure of it.
Sam glanced at Dean again, but Dean just pressed harder on the accelerator, pushing Baby forward.
The place was quiet and empty when Dean pulled up outside the building all of ten minutes later.
Sam put a hand on his gun as he climbed out, but Dean was already heading in, Bobby bringing up the rear.
They didn't have a lot of time but that didn't mean they could be careless, so Dean glanced around cautiously even though he didn't slow down at all.
Thankfully, there were no surprises waiting for them and Dean spotted you almost immediately, your body slumped against one of the corners, your eyes closed.
"Y/N!"
Dean held his gun by his side but raced towards you, getting to his knees so he could check you out.
There was blood everywhere, spilling out of your abdomen, on the ground next to you, smeared across your hands from where you trying to apply pressure on your wound.
"Y/N, wake up. You with me? Y/N!" Dean raised his voice louder, his voice echoing against the walls as Sam and Bobby watched helplessly.
Your eyes fluttered open, and you paused, like you weren’t quite sure if you were seeing things.
A small smile fluttered across your face. “Huh.” You breathed, amused that you’d hallucinate about Dean right before you took your last breath.
“Y/N.” Dean’s breath came out like a sigh, a mix of relief that you were awake that was overshadowed with the worry that you really might not make it.
“Dean?” You felt the uncertainty that this was more than just a hallucination shake you.
Dean nodded. “It’s me. Alright? We’re going to…” Dean’s voice trailed off, his attention once again taken by the sheer amount of blood pooling out of your wound and he hastily pulled his jacket off, reaching forward to press his balled up jacket against your wound even though he knew it wouldn’t do much good.
“Dean, I… I…”
“Shh, it’s okay.” Dean reached for one of your hands and squeezed it. “You stay with me, alright? We’re gonna patch you up, you’re going to be fine.”
Dean could feel the fear start to pulsate through him, the real possibility of your life literally slipping through his fingers dangling right in front of him. “We gotta get you to a hospital.”
“Dean.” Sam interrupted for the first time, as he bent next to you, opposite from Dean.
“Hey squirt.” Sam said affectionately, putting a gentle hand against your head.
You gave him a small smile and Sam turned towards Dean now, talking in a low voice as if you couldn't hear every word. “We can’t move her. Bobby’s calling an ambulance as we speak but…”
Dean knew what Sam was telling him, in not so many words. Moving you could shorten whatever time you had left, but what else were they supposed to do?
Dean glanced back at you and then at Sam. “So what, we’re just going to let her bleed out?”
Sam didn’t answer and you turned to look back at Dean. “It’s… okay. D, I… I’m sorry.”
Dean frowned and Sam quietly excused himself, leaving you with Dean while he headed out towards Bobby.
“No, don’t do this, Y/N. Do not give up on me.” Dean said, his voice low but soft and even in the state you were in, you could hear his voice crack a little. “You’re supposed to continue to argue with me, fight with me, make up with me. Don’t leave me, Y/N.”
Your eyes welled up with tears. “I love you, D. Always have.” The energy leaked out of your voice. “Always will.” You whispered.
“No. No, Y/N. Please just a while longer. I haven’t told you I’m sorry. I haven’t told you I… I love you. Don’t…”
Your eyes fluttered shut, just as there was a flutter of wings.
“Dean.”
Dean’s head snapped back around. “Cas, do something. Anything. Now.”
Castiel didn’t say anything just reached down, putting his hand over your abdomen as his hand glowed.
Dean didn’t even have the presence of mind to snap at Castiel for just getting here, even though he'd been praying all the way down here.
As the glow from Castiel’s healing powers died down, Dean glanced back at you, where you lay motionless. It was too late. You…
Dean felt like he couldn’t breathe, the pressure on his chest as heavy as if he was lying under a car. He couldn’t…
Your fingers closed around a few of Dean’s again, your eyes opening slowly, just staring back at Dean.
“Y/N…” Dean exhaled your name.
You glanced at Castiel. “Cas.”
Castiel just gave you a small smile. “I’m glad I got here in time.”
You looked back at Dean, seeing a range of emotions swimming in those green eyes of his along with unmistakable tears and you sighed. “Dean, if you’re still mad, I…”
Dean just pushed himself forward, never mind the blood surrounding you both on the ground and on your clothes, pressing his lips against yours gently in a tender kiss, the tears slipping down his face and onto yours.
“D…” You whispered, as he pulled away now.
Dean just smiled gently. “As long as you’re back.” He whispered. “I need you to argue with me for a long time more.”
You smiled and nodded. “If you’ll have me.”
“Wouldn’t have it any other way.” Dean whispered back, before Sam and Bobby came running in again. Sam sighed in relief to see Castiel standing there, before he headed towards you and pulled you into a hug.
“Welcome back.” Sam whispered, his hand cradling the back of your head affectionately as Bobby just smiled at his kids.

JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You slid into the seat opposite Jay, smiling at your favorite drink already sitting on the table.
Jay didn’t say anything, merely sliding his phone over to you. “You have anything you want to tell me?”
You frowned, taking the phone from your friend, your eyes sliding over the headline.
“Since when do you read gossip columns?” You asked, your eyes scanning the headlines as you glanced up at him, angling an eyebrow upwards.
You’d been friends with Jay for as long as you could remember and if someone had asked you when you’d first met Jay, you weren’t even sure you could give a definite answer, like the memories had long folded into each other and you couldn’t remember a time in your life when you weren’t Jay’s friend. Well, at least that’s if you could be friends with someone you were attracted to and who you had mounting feelings for. Sure, you and Jay were friends.
The edges of Jay’s lips turned up in a cheeky smile. “And since when do you date lead singers from popular bands?”
You made a face at him. “I don’t.”
You glanced back at Jay’s phone in your hand.
Is Patrick Miller dating?
The headline was accompanied with a photo of you laughing with Patrick Miller, the lead singer of one of the most raging popular bands, Helix.
You rolled your eyes. “I write a music column. Wouldn’t I have to go see Helix if they’re in town? It’s work.”
Jay grinned, taking his phone back just momentarily to shake it in front of you again. “Work, huh?”
“Shut up. Stop basking in my misery. This is going to be a disaster.”
Tumblr media
It definitely was a disaster.
At first, you’d decided to ignore it, and the band’s publicist had called you and agreed that it was a good idea, hoping it would die down.
But you regretted it after a week, especially when you got a threatening letter show up at your office.
You’d thrown it away, ripped it up and tossed it into the bin below your desk, the threatening words about how you’d better leave Miller or else long forgotten as you headed back out of the office for another interview, thankfully with someone other than Helix.
You’d gotten the letters with increased frequency for the next few weeks, but you’d started taking photos of them before tossing them out. Maybe it was that little voice in your head that resembled Jay Halstead, but you’d done it anyway, just in case.
“This is getting out of hand.” Jay said, as he sat across from you.
“What?” You asked, looking up.
Jay gave you a reproachful look, before he showed you his phone. “They’re crawling all over your social media, they’re digging up photos from years ago, and I could get some of them arrested or at least sued for the things they’re posting.”
You heard the quaver in Jay’s voice that told you he was getting really annoyed.
You reached over, taking the phone from Jay’s hands and putting it face down on the table. "Okay, I don’t think you can arrest people for what they say on social media.” You put your index finger up as Jay opened his mouth. “Not even on my page.”
You took a breath, before you spoke again. “But maybe this.”
You pulled your iPad out of your bag, flipping open to the gallery and handing it over to Jay.
The weird thing was that you could read every emotion on Jay’s face. From general curiosity, to mounting anger, before the worried lines crossed his face and he looked up at you, his green eyes reflecting… hurt.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Jay asked. There was no anger in his voice, and you could have sworn it sounded like he was trying to figure out why you didn’t trust him.
That surprised you, just a little.
It wasn't that you didn't know that Jay cared, it was just that it kind of felt like more than…
You blinked, mentally smacking yourself as you pulled yourself back to the present.
"I didn't think too much about it, to be honest. I mean, I didn't even take a photo of the first one I received. But this one…" You reached forward, swiping to the last photo which was a photo of you with your face scratched off. "This one scared me a little."
"Do you still have the photo?" Jay asked, his voice slightly quieter now, his tone back to normal.
You reached back into your bag, taking out a ziplock bag that had the one photo in it and handing it to him. "Just in case."
Jay gave you a small smile. "We'll figure this out."
You nodded and smiled back at him. "Yeah, I know."
Tumblr media
You blinked back at Jay from where he was sitting on your couch, like you couldn't believe your own ears, your eyebrows scrunched together in confusion.
"What?"
This wasn't what you'd expected when Jay asked if he could come over to talk because he had an interim plan while they tried to figure out who was behind this.
Jay didn't say anything so you opened your mouth again.
"Explain to me again why we have to pretend to be dating?" You asked, even though you felt your heartrate pick up a little as the last word left your lips.
Jay shrugged, his attitude as nonchalant as if he had just told you what was for dinner.
"Because they're all up in your personal life. It's dangerous and I'm worried. This is the perfect way for me to be sorta undercover by your side, figure out what's going on without attracting too much attention and maybe it'll quell the rumors with you and whatever this guy's name is."
You kind of got Jay's point. The last point resonated with you because it was true. If you made a post that you and Jay were a couple way before all this happened, plus the few photos the both of you had from when you'd gone for concerts or hikes together, it might just be a believable story.
"My life's all splashed out for everyone. You can't attract more attention." You reminded him, although you knew this was the best plan you had.
Jay nodded. "Yeah, but we don't want this person knowing the police are involved yet."
"Are the police involved?" You asked.
Jay's eyebrow ticked upwards. "Y/N, I am the police."
You couldn't hold back the chuckle, despite feeling the mounting severity of the situation in front of you.
"Yeah, I know, but…"
Jay shook his head. "You're my… you're important to me, which makes this a priority. Voight already signed off on me doing this."
You narrowed your eyes. "There's barely anything. What, did you twist his arm?"
Jay laughed and shook his head. "It's a family thing. It's not an official thing yet but that's not going to stop us."
“What do you say?” Jay asked finally, before you realized he was waiting for an answer.
You didn’t know if it was a good idea, especially if you already had undeniable feelings for him. But you also knew that if anyone could keep you safe, it was Jay. So you swallowed down the lump in your throat that was chock full of your feelings for Jay and nodded.
“Okay, let’s do it.”
Tumblr media
It was harder than you thought. Much harder.
When you’d agreed to this, you figured there was no harm. All you had to do was go about your daily life and post a few pictures now and then, since you hung out with Jay pretty often anyway.
But it was like a tiny snowball rolling down a hill, escalating quickly into an avalanche.
You’d posted a photo of you and Jay that you'd taken a few years ago when Jay had surprised you with concert tickets, and with an encouraging nod from Jay, you'd typed in a well chosen caption and emoji.
Helix’s publicist had also released a statement confirming that the rumors were untrue, and public sentiment had split right down the middle - people who thought you were using Jay as a cover, and people who thought you and Jay were cute together.
But you’d underestimated how much people were paying attention to your social media.
Until that one day you’d been out with Jay. You’d just been walking along the street, heading towards one of the less popular cafés when Jay had suddenly pulled an arm around your shoulders pulling you towards him.
Confused, you’d turned to look at him and Jay had smiled, before you realized that people’s eyes were following you and Jay as the both of you walked down the street.
That had been just the beginning.
Very soon, you realized you and Jay had to keep up the charade everywhere except for when the both of you were in private spaces surrounded by only close friends. You only minded because you were afraid that it was getting harder to hide your feelings from Jay when the both of you had to interlock your fingers or link your arms.
You were afraid that very soon you’d stop acting and let your real feelings slip.
Thankfully, Jay seemed to be preoccupied with trying to figure out who was sending the threatening letters as well as focusing on your surroundings when the both of you were out, so nothing seemed to faze him, even when you’d unconsciously reached for his hand on more than one occasion.
Which also meant that he really only saw you as a friend.
You’d let that thought linger once before you pushed it away, startling even yourself when you felt the twang of disappointment resonate through you.
But still, you felt safer with Jay. Even when you’d been waiting in line for some coffee and some guy had come up to you to hiss between gritted teeth that you shouldn’t get in the way of Miller’s career, Jay had been about two steps away and the guy had left the moment he caught sight of Jay.
Jay had then gone to some extra lengths to be closer, standing slightly nearer to you than he usually did, slipping your hand into his. You found yourself feeling comforted and safe, but also found that you had to make a conscious effort to remind yourself not to get used to it.
Tumblr media
Despite their best efforts, Intelligence weren’t able to trace the person who was behind the threatening letters.
The letters had stopped but they’d substituted those with boxes of dead cockroaches or even razor blades hidden in bouquets of flowers that showed up at your office.
Even so, the person was careful. There were no fingerprints or any other forensic evidence, although Intelligence had managed to narrow down to a profile, which was impressive considering they were doing this unofficially on top of all their other cases. But the profile was still too common for the audience they were looking at. It was like looking for a needle in a stack of needles.
But when a week and a half passed with no new surprise packages or letters, you were starting to think the worst was over. Maybe they'd gotten bored and moved on.
You glanced over where Jay was leaned against the bar, waiting for the drinks from Herrmann or Stella, feeling a prick of annoyance when a girl sidled up to him. She leaned in and you could see Jay smile before you tore your gaze away from him, looking back to Will who was seated at the table with an annoying look on his face.
“What?” You asked, trying to hide the fact that even you had been surprised by the intensity of annoyance that had surged its way through your body.
You had long acknowledged your feelings for Jay, and seen him through other relationships. So this was really new. You knew you should never have agreed to this fake dating thing.
Despite your internal turmoil, you didn't say anything even after Jay rejoined both you and Will. You were a little worried that Will was going to ask you something but at least he had enough sense not to probe into that part of things, merely asking Jay whether they were any closer to finding the person who'd been sending the threats.
Jay didn't seem to pick up on your mood, which was a good thing.
You’d figured that it was just a fleeting moment, mixed in part with your fatigue of having to almost constantly look over your shoulder, so you’d all about thrown it to the back of your mind until later that night.
Jay had headed out to take a phone call, pointing outdoors to you to tell you he’d wait for you outside. You nodded, handing Herrmann your card, chatting a little as your payment went through before you waved goodbye to them and headed back outside.
Jay was no longer on the phone and both Jay and Will had their backs to you as they spoke.
"I just wish we could end this fake relationship.” Jay’s voice was low but the wind had carried his words right to you.
If you were in a comic strip, the words would be dancing in circles around you. Instead, you just felt a crushing boulder weigh down in your gut, the disappointment almost bringing you to your knees. You took a few slow breaths, reminding yourself that there was nothing wrong with what Jay had said. He was right.
This had been a fake relationship from day one. You’d gone into it knowing that. And if you were totally honest with yourself, the rational part of your brain had known this was a bad decision from the start but you’d been cornered. Between the risk of getting your heart broken and getting attacked by a crazy stalker… You actually didn’t know which was worse.
You straightened your expression before you called out to the brothers. Jay offered to walk you home but you shook your head, not sure you could handle being alone with him now, jumping into the first cab that passed by Molly’s, promising you’d text him.
Tumblr media
You’d made an excuse not to see him the next day but you knew that you’d have to talk to him the day after instead. Knowing Jay, he probably could already tell something was up.
The following night after a quick dinner, Jay had walked you home even though you'd told him it wasn't necessary. But Jay had insisted, shrugging and reminding you that stalker or no stalker, he'd always walked you home. You knew he was right, so you'd nodded and the both of you had walked in silence, Jay only stopping once to drape his jacket over your shoulders.
It was only after you'd said goodnight and closed the door behind you that you'd realized Jay's jacket was still sitting snugly around your shoulders.
Usually, you'd just give him his stuff the next day when you saw him. But it had been a little chilly tonight, or maybe you just wanted an excuse to go after him, so you'd pulled on another jacket and gone right back out.
"Jay!"
The wind carried your voice in the opposite direction and it seemed like Jay hadn't heard you because he kept walking. So you'd quickened your pace a little.
"Jay." Your voice was quiet as you caught up with him, touching his arm and he turned in surprise.
"Y/N?" He asked, like he was caught off-guard, his eyes scanning your face like he was trying to read you. "What's…"
You reached your hand out to give him his jacket. "It's cold tonight."
Jay looked down before he glanced back up at you, taking his jacket. "You could have just given it to me tomorrow."
You gave him a half-smile. "It's too cold tonight.” You turned to leave when you stopped and turned back to him.
“Jay, listen.”
Your mouth was moving faster than your brain was.
“I think we should end this.”
Jay’s smile was frozen on his face but you continued, like you were afraid you wouldn’t be able to get the words out fast enough.
“Y/N, what…”
You smiled. “Thank you.”
You turned to leave again but Jay reached out for your hand, barely catching it in his. “Y/N.”
Feeling the tears well up in your eyes, you slipped your hand gently out of his grasp, unwilling to let him see you cry. Not when you were crying over him.
Jay didn’t try to stop you again as you walked back down the street and right up to your house, shutting the door behind you with a snap before you sank towards the ground, letting the tears flow down your face.
Tumblr media
You’d avoided Jay’s calls the next day and then you’d gotten a few messages from him that he’d gotten wrapped up in a case but that he really wanted to talk and that he’d get in touch once he got this case out of the way.
It was a blessing in disguise since the few days had given you some time and space to clear your head and settle your emotions.
You’d come up with an excuse in your head about feeling safe enough not to continue this charade, reminding yourself not to bring up the fact that you’d overheard his conversation with Will because Jay would most definitely connect the dots.
You are not going to lose your best friend over this.
The voice in your head was stern, and you nodded to yourself as you headed down the street, so preoccupied with your thoughts you didn’t notice the two added set of feet that fell into step, right behind you.
Tumblr media
Jay glanced at his watch, in an effort to take his mind off of wandering.
For the past few days, he’d been cracking his brains so hard to try to figure out what had happened and why you’d called everything off.
He’d scoured his memories for something he might have done to piss you off but he couldn’t. For the life of him, he couldn’t think of a reason why you would suddenly call it off with that sad look in your eyes. A look that he couldn’t get out of his head.
Jay frowned, when he realized it was already fifteen minutes past the time you’d agreed upon and he glanced at his phone, noting the lack of messages.
Jay toyed with the idea that you’d stood him up but that didn’t sound like you. Even if you’d decided you didn’t want to talk to him today, with your personality, you’d have made up some stupid excuse just so he’d stop waiting and not worry.
So he picked up his phone, pressing your name at the top of his contact list to call you, even though you hadn’t answered any of his calls since that night.
No answer.
Jay couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong so he’d headed towards the bar, towards where Kelly was sitting, leaning in to talk to Stella who was making a drink.
“Hey guys.” Jay said, interrupting them. “Y/N is supposed to meet me here but… something’s wrong.”
Kelly looked up. “How can I help?”
Jay shook his head. “It’s just a hunch but if she walks in here later just keep her here with the two of you? And call me. I'm going to look for her.”
Kelly pushed his chair back. “Stella will be here. Let me come with you.”
Jay hesitated but he didn’t have time to waste on arguing, so he nodded and led the way out of Molly’s, tracing back the route towards your apartment.
Jay was halfway to your apartment, his gut still stirring with unease, when he paused, pulling out his phone to call you again even though he figured it was useless.
Except this time, the sound of your phone ringing reached his ears at the same time that he spotted the flashing of a phone screen on the ground.
The dread spread across his chest now but it was almost like flipping an autopilot switch as Jay sprinted forward, kneeling to pick up your phone. There was a crack across the screen but it was still in working condition and Jay glanced sideways at the adjacent alley.
There was no hesitation in Jay’s movements now as he slipped your phone into his pocket and took out his gun, glad he’d been carrying tonight, before he headed quickly right into the darkened alley, Kelly right behind him.
Tumblr media
The fear that gripped your throat right now was almost impairing your breathing.
You could still feel the hands that had pulled you off the street with their vice-like grip, one hand over your mouth to make sure you couldn’t make a sound, another pair of hands grabbing you roughly by the upper arms and dragging you deeper into the alley.
You’d heard your phone clatter to the ground when they’d grabbed you, your hope seeming to crash at that exact same moment.
Now, they shoved you against a wall hard, you felt the rough bricks scrape your back through the shirt you had thrown on, before a girl’s voice caught your attention.
“I told you you’d be sorry.”
Her voice was cold, calculated and you looked up at her, barely making her features out from the limited light in the darkened corner of the alley where they’d dragged you into. You could no longer see the street from here and the cloudy night made sure that barely any light filtered down towards you.
Your eyes raked across her. She was a pretty girl, her long blonde hair falling to her shoulders, but she also had a sense of familiarity, which you couldn’t place immediately.
You frowned. “You’re the one sending me…” Your voice trailed off now as you realized where you’d seen her before.
You’d interviewed her at Helix’s concert that night. And based off what she’d just said, she’d been the one sending you the crazy letters and packages.
A smile spread across her face. A smile that sent little shivers down your spine.
“Look, Daphne.” You said, her name springing to the forefront of your brain now, the memories flooding back in like a gateway had spread wide open.
She looked up like she was surprised.
“If this is because of Miller, you don’t have to do this.” You started talking but her eyebrows scrunched together when she heard Miller’s name.
“Shut up.” She hissed, one of the guys landing a punch in your stomach that knocked the wind out of you and you slumped back against the wall, only held up by their hold on you.
She paced in front of you now. “I’ve been following him for years. Then you just walk right in and… you pretend you’re interviewing me but then you try to screw him?”
You couldn’t even say anything, the air still knocked out of you.
“You want to be a slut? Fine, my friends can help you with that.”
You looked up now, hoping she didn’t mean what you thought.
But it was too late. You were already being flung towards the ground, feeling your head smack against the concrete ground where your feet had been just seconds ago.
Even through the ringing in your head, you felt one of them grab the edge of your shirt and while the fear gnawed at you, you kicked, your foot making contact with one of their faces.
The guy roared in fury at being hurt, and probably also at being humiliated, and you felt a smarting contact across your face as someone slapped you.
This was it.
The three words resonated in your head even as you were stunned from the physical contact, before you felt someone pull your hands roughly above your head.
Just as you were about to give up, about to proclaim it as a lost cause in your head, you heard shouting, the pressure on your wrists were gone and then you felt someone reach for you again.
Instinctively, you fought, twisting your body away until you heard it.
That voice.
Him.
Jay Halstead.
“Y/N, it’s me!” Jay yelled, and you paused, feeling the waves of terror be replaced by relief.
He was here.
“J..”
Jay scooped you into his arms, pulling you towards him and away from the commotion, before he stepped in front of you.
One of the guys headed towards the both of you and Jay, focused on keeping him away from you, twisted his body and pushed him against the wall, lifting an arm to block the blows, throwing a punch across the younger guy’s face, acutely aware that Kelly was just as busy with the other guy.
You’d lost track of Daphne, until you felt someone tug your hair back roughly.
Without even thinking and partly encouraged by Jay and Kelly’s presence, you flung your arm backwards, making contact with her face, just as another voice rang through the air.
“Chicago PD! Hands in the air! Now!” Jay turned towards the sound of a familiar voice that belonged to Kim Burgess. Kim already had her gun raised, Hailey was wrestling Daphne off of you and Adam was moving in as well.
With no other thought, Jay let Adam take the boy he’d been wrestling with before he made his way to you.
“Y/N. Let me see, are you hurt?” Jay bent over you but you just leaned into him, the sobs making their way up from your chest even though your stomach still hurt where he’d punched you and your face smarted.
“You’re safe. I got you, alright? I’m sorry I was late.” Jay whispered, pulling you gently into a hug, one arm around your shoulders, the other hand resting gently on the back of your head.

You’d been whisked off to Med right away, but not before Kelly had checked on you and you’d had the presence of mind to thank him for being there.
Now, you were left sitting in the hospital room on your own. Ethan had checked you out to make sure there was no additional internal injuries so you were just left with a mild concussion and bruises. You could still feel the ache from the punch you’d taken right in your gut.
You looked up as the door opened again and Jay walked in with a small smile. “Hey.”
You returned the smile, half glad he was here, half feeling a little awkward. This would have been much better if the both of you had had the opportunity to talk before…
As if Jay knew he needed to fill the silence, he spoke. “Stella filled them in when the team went to Molly’s, so…”
You nodded. “So we got lucky?”
Jay chuckled, before he looked back at you again. “You feeling okay?”
“Mostly.” You shrugged. “But I guess I’m not getting out of here today, huh?”
Jay smiled and shook his head. “I spoke to Will too. They’re playing on the safe side.”
You nodded quietly, falling back to silence again.
It felt like it dragged on for a long while as your fingers fiddled with the sheets of the hospital bed you were in, your mind whirling. This awkwardness had never happened to you and Jay before. Never.
You glanced up to look at him, realizing he was already looking at you and you felt the clench in your heart again, as if you were on the steps of Molly’s once again, hearing Jay tell Will he wished it was over.
Maybe it was the stress of that evening, maybe it was Jay sitting next to you here in silence, but this time you weren’t able to hold the tears back as you felt it fall down your cheek. Jay’s expression shifted immediately into one of concern as he noticed.
“I wasn’t going to bring it up. I wasn’t going to ask but I just… I think I have to know.” Your voice was quiet and Jay just shifted closer towards you. “What was so hard for you? This fake relationship was your idea. So what did you have such a hard time with?”
It was out and there were no take-backs. You felt a few more tears slide down your cheeks but you didn’t even raise your hand to swipe them away.
Jay didn’t respond immediately, the silence settling around the both of you again.
“Because it was fake.” Jay’s voice was soft but steady and you looked up in surprise.
He got up from his chair now, moving closer to you. “It was hard because it was fake, Y/N. I was getting greedier, I wanted to be with you for real.”
Another tear slid off your cheek as Jay leaned in slowly, his hand resting on your neck gently as he pressed his lips gently against yours.
You blinked, like you couldn’t comprehend what was going on, before your eyes fluttered shut again.
He pulled away after a moment, his eyes trying to read your expression and when you blinked back at him again, he gently swiped away a tear from the corner of your eye before he smiled and you nodded, leaning towards him just a little more.
Now, Jay leaned in fully, his lips grazing across yours before he went deeper into it and you felt the whole world stop, sinking into just being with Jay as you kissed him back.
When the both of you pulled away this time, you were both smiling.
Jay was still leaned in close to you and you reached forward for a hug, fitting yourself into his embrace as he pressed you gently into him, turning his face towards you to press a kiss to your temple.
“See, this isn’t too bad.” Jay said quietly, and you giggled softly.
“New beginnings?” You asked, pulling away to look back at him.
Jay smiled. “About time, too.”

WILL HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
“Just wanted to say goodnight.”
You smiled at Will’s words. “We haven’t even had dinner.” You responded.
“But if we get busy tonight I might not be able to call before you sleep.” Will reasoned. “This is my last night shift before the baby comes, so let’s just hang in there a while more okay?”
You nodded, even though he couldn’t see you, unable to stop the smile because he was being cute. “Yeah alright. Be careful and I’ll see you in the morning. Jay will be here soon.”
“Love you.” Will said, before you heard Maggie call his name in the background and he hurriedly hung up.
You put your phone down on the kitchen table before you heard a noise at the front door and frowned. Jay usually rang the doorbell even though he had a key so you felt your wariness rise a little as you stepped out towards the main area where the doorknob was already jiggling.
Not Jay.
Tumblr media
Jay climbed out from his truck, reaching into the back for the food he’d promised you and turning towards Will’s house.
He had a half-formed thought in his mind that was thrown out when he realized the curtains were closed.
Jay frowned. You didn’t usually close the curtains until you were going to bed, and definitely not when you were expecting him at any time.
His frown deepened but he headed towards the main door, pausing when he realized the door wasn’t even closed, much less locked, merely resting on the frame. That you most definitely didn't do, not even when he and Will were around.
Jay put the bag he had down next to the main door, reaching for the gun holstered on his waist and nudging the main door open with his foot.
The house seemed quiet, which was even more suspicious so Jay didn’t lower the gun. Until he turned into the dining area and saw you had smashed yourself into a corner.
“Y/N, are you…”
“Jay, behind you!” You yelled. Jay spun back around, turning his back to you once again and almost immediately you heard shots rip through the air. You closed your eyes, your body jumping involuntarily which each shot that resonated through the house that you and Will shared.
Then, silence.
You cracked your eyes open but from where you were standing, shriveled into a corner of your own house, you could only see that both the intruder and Jay were no longer standing.
“Jay?” You tried calling out to him.
There was a silence for a beat and then Jay pushed himself up, closing the gap between himself and the intruder, swiping the gun further away from him. Just in case.
You paused, before you took a shaky step forward.
Jay glanced up at you as you neared him. That's when you saw it - the blood seeping between his fingers as he tried to apply pressure down on the wound on his shoulder. He’d been hit too.
“Y/N, look at me.”
You wrenched your eyes away from the dead man in your house and looked back at your brother-in-law.
“Get me the phone.”
You nodded, glad you and Will kept it within reach and handed it to Jay, your hands still shaking slightly as you felt a weird sensation, something similar to a slight pop, before a trickle of liquid down your legs.
“This is Detective Halstead from Intelligence, Badge number 51163. Responded to a robbery, offender is down but I need a patrol car and a bus…” Jay trailed off as he looked at your face, before he noticed what was happening.
You looked back at him as you felt a clear contraction. “Jay. My water…”
“Two buses. Stat. One gunshot wound, and my sister’s water just broke.”
Tumblr media
Will glanced up from where he was standing when the alarms blared and he moved straight to the front like clockwork.
“Jay?”
Jay glanced up at his brother giving him a strained smile. “I’ll be fine. Y/N is right behind me. Go.” His voice was a whisper now and Connor patted Will on the back.
“I got this.” Connor reassured him and Will cast one more look at his younger brother worriedly before he hurried off under Maggie’s directions to get to you.
“We have to deliver now.” The OB doctor on call told Will the moment he opened the door.
“Will… Jay…”
Will shook his head, scooting over to put your hand in his. “It’s okay, he's going to be fine. One thing at a time, alright?”
You groaned as another contraction hit and the OB attending settled herself in front of you.
“Alright, Y/N. Take a deep breath… and push.”
Will stayed with you throughout and the only thing you felt was keeping you grounded was the thought of your son coming, as well as the feeling of Will holding your hand.
And when the doctor finally put your son in your arms and you laid your eyes on him, you couldn’t help the happy tears that slipped down your cheeks.
Will quietly swiped away a tear and pressed a kiss to the top of your head. “Thank you, Y/N.”
You just smiled as Will bent down to press his forehead against yours and you angled your head up so your lips could meet.
Tumblr media
Connor had come by to see you and the baby, as well as to assure both of you that Jay was fine. You'd filled Will in about what had happened and after some wheedling, Will had given in and agreed to wheel you both to go see Jay if you promised to stay in the wheelchair.
Jay was already kind of sitting up in bed when Will opened the door and wheeled you in.
“Oh my god, please tell me you’re here to bust me out.” Jay groaned and you hid a laugh.
Will shook his head. “Connor had to bring you into surgery to get the bullet out. And our place is still half a crime scene so all three of you are stuck here for a bit.”
“But both of you are okay?” Jay asked, groaning a little as he shifted and glanced at you.
You smiled. “Thank you, Jay. If you hadn’t come, I… we…”
Jay gave you another smile before he reached out, his hand barely reaching your arm, as he patted it. “Told you, you’re family.”
His eyes now flicked down to the small bundle that was asleep in your arms.
You looked at Will, who nodded. “We wanted you to meet your nephew and your godson.”
Jay’s eyes flicked up to his older brother. “Wait, what?”
Will cocked his head at his younger brother. “The anesthesia should have worn off by now, Jay. You won’t say no to him right?”
Jay smiled. “Of course not.”
Will lifted your son from your arms and put him down in Jay’s good arm. “Meet AJ. Alexander Jay Halstead.”
Jay glanced between you and Will.
“Seriously?”
“Jay.” You said, leaning just a little forward, enough that you were still comfortable and not off the wheelchair like you'd promised Will. “We’re here because of you. AJ’s only safe because of his Uncle Jay. Like you said, family right?”
Will smiled back at his younger brother. “Just promise me the both of you won’t be wheeled into the ED together again. I can’t do that again.”
You smiled and glanced at Jay, as Will reached for your hand.
“I’ll do my best.” Jay answered with a smile, his eyes drifting back to little AJ still comfortably asleep in his Uncle Jay’s arms.

Pie
Pairing: Dean Winchester x Reader
Requested: yes, by anon and anon
Summary: For the first time in her life, Y/N feels a craving for pie and she knows exactly why.
Tumblr media
Word Count: 1,141
Warnings: none
A/N: I combined a few requests here but I also made this fic a little segmented, but I hope it turned out well!
DEAN WINCHESTER MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
This was new.
You’d made pie for Dean thousands of times, even when the both of you used to hunt together. But you’d never wanted to eat it as much as you did now.
You glanced down at your belly that was already showing and shook your head. “This is all you, isn’t it?” You asked quietly as you closed the oven door again to keep the pie warm.
You felt a kick within your belly, as if he was answering you and you smiled. Dean’s son, through and through.
Right on cue, you heard the door open, the familiar sounds of Dean’s footsteps as he trod through the hall and into the kitchen.
“Hey.” Dean said, a smile spreading across his face as he saw you and he leaned in for a kiss. “Is that…”
You grinned back at him. “Maybe?”
Dean chuckled. “You are the best." He announced pressed another kiss on your cheek. "Sammy said he’s coming over with Eileen so let me wash up and I'll take the steaks out.”
“I can do it.” You told him, to which Dean shook his head.
“Nuh-uh. Leave me some stuff to do, seriously.” Dean said with a wink. “I’ll wash off the grease and be down in a bit.”
You smiled as you watched Dean head back out and up the stairs.
Dean had somehow created a miraculous life for the both of you, almost as if there was nothing out there in the dark of the night anymore, even though you knew everything was stored in the Impala that was parked in the garage.
Dean and Sam still went on hunts, especially when they hit a little too close to home, but Dean had had a close call in what all of you jokingly called the last hunt. It was the day that you’d almost lost Dean and thinking about it now still caused the pooling of tears in your eyes and sent your heart racing.
But after that, Dean had made a life for you both here. Something even he had thought impossible before. Yet here you were now, a ring sitting on your finger, awaiting the arrival of your son.
You were brought out of your thoughts by the sound of Dean reentering the kitchen, putting a gentle hand on your belly now that he’d taken a shower as he hummed and started to prepare the food.
You’d had an extremely normal and nice dinner with Sam and Eileen, until the pie came out.
Dean was already about two mouthfuls in when he noticed you were watching him. “What?”
“Nothing.” You said, a little too quickly.
Dean narrowed his eyes and Sam let out a short laugh, his arm draped over the back of Eileen’s chair. “Y/N, you have never wanted his pie more.”
Dean looked up at you and frowned. “Wait, seriously?”
You didn’t answer him.
“You don’t even eat pie. You’ve never…”
“I know.” You answered, narrowing your eyes at Dean.
Sam watched, his eyes almost sparkling with amusement, ready to see Dean narrow his eyes like what he did with literally everyone. Dean put the piece of pie that was already sitting on his fork into his mouth, reaching forward to dig his fork into the pie again without saying anything.
As if he’d expected it, Sam smiled but then paused when Dean reached forward to feed you.
Sam raised his eyebrows but didn’t say anything and you burst into a fit of giggles, Dean laughing as he put another piece of pie into his mouth, even though Sam had opened his mouth.
“Seriously, Dean?”
Dean shrugged. “You don’t even eat pie.” He shot at his brother.
“Neither does Y/N!” Sam argued but you patted your belly as an answer, to which Sam raised his hands in defeat, the laughter from the four of you filling your house, the warmth that filled the place having nothing to do with the thermostat sitting on the wall.
Tumblr media
You’d been in the middle of dinner with Dean when you’d felt the first sign of contractions, backed up by your water breaking and he’d whisked you off to the hospital, staying by your side throughout.
When Sam and Eileen had come by after his first feed, you’d glanced at Dean before you smiled at Sam.
“Hey Sam. Get over here.” You’d said, nodding at Sam. “Meet Jackson Winchester. You know, Jack for short.”
Sam glanced at his brother, who nodded with a small smile.
“Why don’t you take him? Uncle Sammy should carry his godson.” You said quietly.
Sam paused from where he was bent towards you, Jackson now looking tiny in his arms. “You guys… seriously?”
You smiled. “We were hoping.”
Sam smiled. “No question. Of course. I’d be… I’d be really happy to.”
You watched Sam cradle Jackson in his arms, Eileen smiling by his side, with her own belly showing just slightly and you just smiled, feeling safe and warm surrounded by family.
Tumblr media
One year old Jackson sat perched on his father’s lap, as the oven dinged and you took out a beautifully baked pie.
“Jack, why don’t you come with Mama, okay? Let Daddy…” The words were barely out of your mouth when Jackson turned into his father’s embrace and Dean just chuckled, smiling at you.
“Fine, but the plate is hot, so no touching you hear me?” You spoke to your son, who nodded now that he was reassured that he wasn’t going to be plucked from his father’s lap.
“Y/N, seriously, your pies? I love that I’m the only one who gets to taste this heav…” Dean paused. “You know what, there literally is no other word. This heavenly goodness. Seriously, I would totally pay for this.”
You laughed, leaning in to press a kiss on Dean’s lips. "And I'm glad I don't have to." Dean finished as you pulled back away.
You could taste the aftermath of your pie still on his lips. “Hmm.” You hummed, before you pulled away, putting a gentle hand on Jackson’s head before you went in to get water for your boys.
It was when you were coming back out from the kitchen that you took in the sight in front of you.
Jackson seated on his father’s lap, Dean putting pieces of pie into his mouth, and Jackson’s eyes following the pie all the way from the plate to his father's mouth.
You burst out laughing, making Dean look up. “What?”
“You’re going to have to share your pie soon.” You commented, pointing towards your son who was still looking at the pie.
Dean laughed. “My son.” He proclaimed almost proudly.
You laughed. “Watch out, Dean.”
Dean just laughed, taking a chunk small enough that Jackson could eat and you just smiled.
Your boys.
Thank god you were good at baking.
