Your hospital shift was nothing short of exhausting.
That day there were three hospitalizations in the ICU due to a terrible accident that happened in the afternoon. Three patients, all of them brain dead. The ward was short-staffed and it was just you and another nurse, Amanda, on that shift so dealing with these three new patients, along with the other ones, was really exhausting.
After closing your locker, you removed the necklace where you hung the ring and slipped it onto the ring finger of your left hand, which you did at the end of each shift. You didn't want to risk losing it during work, you’d never forgive yourself for it so you just carried it around your neck during the shifts. You looked at it for a moment with a smile on your lips thinking back to the day Jay asked you to marry him.
You took your cell phone from the pocket of your uniform and, as you walked towards the exit, bag on your shoulders, you noticed various texts from Jay, the last one dating back to a couple of minutes prior.
From Fiancée 💍, 7:17 pm
Baby we're still dealing with a difficult case, I think I'll be late tonight. Please let me know when you get home. I love you endlessly. Be careful.
From Fiancée 💍, 7:55 pm
Baby? Are you okay?
From Fiancée 💍, 8.21 pm
Should I send a patrol to the hospital? You know I'll do it love.
You chuckled not doubting about that, you knew he would. Jay had always been very protective of you, which you wouldn't admit but loved it madly. You loved he cared about you, so much he’d leave everything and everyone to come to you if you asked him to.
From you, 8.27 pm
I'm sorry love, it's been a hard shift and I just picked up my cell phone. I'm going home now. How are you? When will you finish? You’ll come home soon, right?
You left the hospital and started walking home. It was late spring and the temperatures were finally starting to warm up a bit, allowing you to finally breathe fresh air. You really needed it after a whole day of smelling the hospital and disinfectants.
Your cell phone started ringing following a call.
“Hi baby! You really miss me that much, don’t you?” You begin, bringing your cell phone to your ear, a smile on your lips.
“I always miss you, you know that,” your fiancée answered on the other end of the phone. “Are you walking home?”.
“Yes, it's a beautiful evening and I felt like walking.”
Jay sighed. “Baby you know I don't like the idea of you walking alone in the dark, you could’ve taken a taxi or waited for me to pick you up.”
“Oh come on Jay, what’s gonna happen. I'll be home in twenty minutes,” you retorted “Where are you?”.
“I'm still in the district baby, I have to finish writing a case report and then I'm finally leaving,” you heard some noise in the background but you couldn't figure out what he was doing.
Jay continued to keep you company on the phone, refusing to leave you completely alone even though you'd insisted that he finish work so he'd get back to you soon.
You asked him about his day and he started telling you what he had done as you listened to him carefully, asking him a few questions from time to time when you didn't quite understand something. You bumped into a person and quickly mumbled an apology before walking on, quickly glancing at the man who reassured you not to worry.
“Everything okay baby?” Jay asked.
“Yeah, yeah, I got distracted and bumped into a guy, no big deal. What were you saying?”.
Suddenly an unease feeling went through your body. You tried to let it go, thinking it was just a figment of your imagination.
You clasped your hand around your purse, quickly picking up your pace when you began to hear footsteps behind you.
They were so loud you seemed to hear them only a few feet away from you.
You turned around and stopped in your tracks, looking around for a few seconds before letting out a sigh of relief.
There was no one walking behind you.
Your heart was pounding and anxiety was eating up your stomach and you forgot for a moment you were on the phone with Jay.
Stay calm, you're just tired.
“Baby? You still there?” Jay's voice brought you back to reality. “Oh yeah, sorry, I couldnt hear you anymore.” You answered. You didn't want to make him worry about your simple and stupid feeling, you knew if you told him you had the impression someone was following you he would’ve rushed to you and acted like the world was about to end.
You were sure it was just the fatigue speaking, but your senses remained alert until you got to your apartment. You took a shower while you waited for Jay to come back home, ordering food since you knew neither of you would feel like cooking.
You were about to lower the blinds in your bedroom window when, glancing outside, you noticed a figure standing on the sidewalk in front of you.
It was too dark for you to make out who it was and for a few moments you stood paralyzed, your eyes fixed on that dark figure, trying to figure out if it was just a hallucination.
The noise of the front door opening and closing made you jump in place, nearly giving you a heart attack.
You took your eyes off that figure for just a second.
Just for a moment.
And it was no longer there.
You ran your hands over your face in frustration, letting out a deep sigh at the same time before walking over to Jay, deciding you were going to ignore it and just needed a good night's sleep.
-
The following days went on quietly and the strange episode that happened a few nights before passed into oblivion. But that was before something else weird made your skin crawl.
“Are you sure you don't want me to drive you to work babe?” Jay asked you as he planted numerous kisses on your lips, making you smile between them. It was morning and you were both in the doorway, your arms around his chest as you both struggled to pull away.
“I'm positive baby, just think about resting okay? I’ll see you tonight.”
He cupped his hands over your face, giving you one last long, sweet kiss on your lips. “I'll have dinner ready for you. You be careful. I love you so much.”
“I love you more.“
The day went on peacefully. You had to work a double shift in the hospital as the nurse on the afternoon shift was sick and had to take over her place.
You loved your job, you really did. There was nothing else you would’ve done in your life but sometimes you couldn't deny how difficult and tiring it was.
“Y/N, sweetie!” You heard the voice of your colleague, Becca, calling you from a patient’s room you'd just passed. You sighed, recognizing the tone she used when she needed something.
You took a few steps back, looking into the room and noticing Becca intent on changing the unconscious patient's dressing.
“Becca I was about to leave, why do you still want to torture me?” You whined and she rolled her eyes. “Please help me change these dressings. Pretty please, I can't wait to leave too.”
She put on the sweetest puppy face she was capable of and for the second time you sighed and rolled your eyes. You ended up disinfecting your hands, putting on a pair of gloves and helping her to change the patient’s dressings.
By the time you finished you were dead tired and couldn't wait to get back to Jay and sleep, you probably would’ve just run away if anyone else had asked you any other favor. For this reason, you practically flew out of the hospital after saying goodbye to your colleagues.
It was particularly cold that evening and you found yourself rubbing your hands on your arms in an attempt to get some warmth. Thank God you took the car that day.
You walked over to your car and grabbed the keys from your bag. Before unlocking it, you noticed an object resting on the windshield, held on it by the wiper. You furrowed your eyebrows when you realized it was a rose.
A black rose.
What the fuck?
There was no card attached to it, just the rose.
Your heartbeat began to accelerate and anxiety took over you. You tried to keep calm and not freak out since there was definitely an explanation why someone had to put a damn black rose on your car.
Maybe they were wrong, maybe it was for another person and they got mixed up with the cars.
Who the hell gives a black rose though?
Your eyes scanned the parking lot around you but you didn't notice anyone suspicious or anyone nearby watching you, before dropping the rose on the asphalt, trying not to think about it. There was definitely a mistake.
The car ride was strange.
You couldn't shake the feeling something was wrong. You kept looking in the rear view mirror to notice if there were any cars following you, you were probably just getting paranoid but you couldn't keep yourself calm.
When you parked in your usual spot once you got back home, that feeling of discomfort hadn't disappeared, on the contrary, it had increased.
The streetlights hadn't been turned on yet and it was dark enough outside so distinguishing objects or people was pretty hard.
After locking the car you were about to enter the apartment building when your gaze fell on the sidewalk in front of you.
You didn't know if it was just your imagination, but you swore there was someone standing, exactly in front of you and, despite the darkness, you were sure they were watching you.
You couldn't figure out who that person was, only that he was a man.
Your breath caught in your chest as you realized it was the same figure you'd spotted a few days earlier from your bedroom window.
The silence was almost deafening, making everything more frightening and suggestive.
Your muscles were paralyzed as your eyes seemed to be glued to that man.
Suddenly he moved and your heart almost stopped beating.
But when you saw him go away, that was the last thing you expected.
He did nothing, just walked away.
You tried to explain what was happening in your mind. Maybe it was just a coincidence, that man was there for another reason and you had nothing to do with it.
You let out a sigh you didn't realize you were holding and quickly entered the apartment building, rushing to your home where you found Jay on the couch watching a show.
That rose left you with a feeling of anxiety that you couldn't get rid of easily, also caused by that figure you saw standing in front of you. You didn't immediately tell Jay, you didn't want to worry him since you already knew how he’d react and he’d worry to death and go crazy about it.
You just wanted to be sure that something’s happening before alarming him.
But, knowing you like the back of his hand, he immediately sensed there was something strange, that something was bothering you. You tried to convince him otherwise, that you were just awfully tired after working a double shift at the hospital.
“Baby, really, I'm fine. I'm just dead tired,” you said for the hundredth time since you'd set foot inside the house.
“Are you sure? You know you can talk to me. Did someone upset you? Did something happen at work?” He kept going, thumb and forefinger under your chin to keep your head up and make you look into his eyes. Your hands slid under his shirt, caressing his chest as you placed your lips on his, trying to distract him.
“No baby, nobody did anything. Seriously, nothing happened,” you muttered against his lips, “I just missed my fiancé like hell.” You bit his bottom lip and he hissed, his breathing suddenly heavy. “Do you want to take a shower with me?”.
“Fuck yeah,” Jay had said before crashing his mouth on yours and kissing your breath away. His tongue explored every corner of your mouth as his lips moved masterfully with yours. His hands went down your body and he bent slightly before reaching your thighs, pressing his fingers against your skin and urging you to jump into his arms.
You wrapped your legs around his waist and your arms around his neck meanwhile he carried you to the bathroom, never letting go of you. As he kicked the door open, you found yourself completely lost in him, the rest of the world vanishing and all negative thoughts forgotten.
However this sensation of bliss was destined to vanish.
In the following days the feeling that was tormenting you didn’t disappear, instead it only got worse.
You started to sense someone was constantly following you and watching you, that every time you walked in the middle of the street there was someone behind you even if every time you turned around there was no one.
After finding that rose on your car, this kept happening and almost every night for two weeks a rose would appear on your windshield.
Jay knew something was wrong, you weren't acting normally anymore.
You were always jumpy, any sudden noise made you almost have a heart attack, even if you were cooking and he suddenly hugged you from behind you’d be scared to death.
Needless to say Jay asked you a million times what was going on, what was it that was bothering you so much but you didn't want to bother him. You didn't want to upset him, make him worry about some stupid feeling of yours, not when his work was already haunting him enough.
Maybe deep down you were hoping whoever was leaving you those roses would stop and eventually leave you alone.
One evening you went out with your friends, on one of your rare days off, to try to keep your mind occupied and to catch up with them since you didn't always have the opportunity because of your hectic job.
Between laughter, jokes, chatting and various cocktails, the evening went on normally and by 1:00 am each one of you went back home. You headed towards your car, parked not far from the bar where you had all met together, calm and happy for the first time in weeks.
However, this feeling of calmness faded the instant your gaze fell on a damn black rose sitting on your windshield, again.
A wave of anger took over you.
You were tired, so damn tired of this little game that whoever it was was playing against you.
Who the hell was this person? What the fuck did they want from you? Why were they targeting you?
Whoever that person was they following you, they knew what you were doing, who you were with, and it scared the shit out of you as well as infuriating you.
You tore all the petals off that rose that would haunt you forever before throwing it angrily on the asphalt and getting into the car. You started it and quickly drove away from there, intending to go home immediately.
You wanted Jay, you wanted your fiancée. You wanted to hug him, feeling safe again in his arms and forget about all that shit that was going on.
As soon as you got home, however, your heart skipped a beat when you saw Jay laying on the sofa, asleep. The TV was on and he had his cell phone resting on his stomach, holding it close in case you called him. A smile was born on your lips and for an instant all negative thoughts flew away as your attention focused on the sleeping figure on the couch.
You leaned towards him, leaving a sweet little kiss on his forehead, also gently stroking his hair with your left hand. He stirred in his sleep and opened his eyes at the same instant, looking around before looking at you, a sigh of relief to see you were back home safe and sound.
“I’m sorry I woke you up baby,” you whispered, kissing his forehead again “Let's go to bed so you can sleep again.”
He mumbled something you couldn’t catch and rubbed his eyes before flashing a smile that nearly made your knees buckle. He nodded and then stood up, stretching his arms before pulling you into a hug. “How are you my love? Did you have fun?”.
The memory of that rose returned to your mind but for some reason, seeing his eyes so red and tired, you decided not to worry him about it and you’d talk to him about it the following morning.
“Mmh,” you muttered nodding your head “I really had fun, we needed this girls night out even though I missed you a lot.”
He chuckled, placing his hands on your face and giving you a kiss on the lips. “I’m glad darling, you deserved it since you’re working so hard lately. And I missed you so much more,” he kissed you again “Come on, let's go to sleep now.”
But that night you couldn't sleep given the thousands of thoughts that were going through your head. You couldn't help but think who would do something like that, what the hell those roses meant. Was there anyone who had it in for you? Did you do something to someone? Maybe an angry patient?
You thought again and again about who could be doing this but none occurred to you. Jay told you about his cases so many times you knew that whoever did this was doing it to torture you, to keep you on your toes, to make you live in fear.
And the fact they were succeeding was infuriating you.
Fear turned into pure terror when, while checking your cell phone, you noticed a text from an unknown number.
So pretty. Can’t wait to meet you.
How did they get your number?
You were so immersed in your thoughts you didn't notice it was morning and that Jay had woken up in the meantime. He literally jumped out of bed when you told him the time after he asked you, realizing he was late. You had the afternoon shift so you didn't have to worry about getting ready for quite a while longer.
“Baby can I talk to you about something?” You had asked him, not being able to hold it in anymore even though you knew you picked up the worst time to do it.
How smart were you for wanting to talk to him about something so delicate as he was hurring to get dressed and going to work? Not much.
“Can you tell me about it later? I'm so sorry, but I'm super late…” he replied frantically as he ran from one part of the room to another looking for the keys. He stopped for a moment in front of you, placing his hands on your face, analyzing your features. “Is it something important though? If…”
You shook his head, placing your hands on his chest and giving him a reassuring smile even if anxiety was making you nauseous. “No, it's not urgent baby. I'll tell you tonight. Now go.”
He smiled at you and made sure to leave you a long, sweet kiss on your lips before saying goodbye and literally flying out of the front door.
It could wait, right?
You tried to keep yourself busy all morning, cleaning every corner of your apartment and keeping your mind from the negative thoughts.
You couldn't deny the slightest noise made you jump, even when you accidentally dropped something on the floor. You hated this feeling, you hated having to be afraid in your own home, you hated whoever was doing this to you, you hated them so fucking much.
You nearly jumped for joy when you realized it was time to get ready for work, the thought that for few hours you'd be safe made you especially happy to go to the hospital.
You took a shower before quickly putting on your uniform and packing your bag. You checked that everything you needed was there, house and car keys and hospital locker keys, a bottle of water, tissues, tampons, some snacks, pepper spray and a small knife. Jay had forced you to carry them around constantly, asserting you could never be too safe and he’d be comfortable with the thought you had something to protect you in case of need, and never as then as then you were grateful to him.
Once you left the apartment, you made sure you locked the door at least three times. The anxiety that had been living with you for weeks was now gripping your stomach, forcing you to constantly look around and keeping you alert to any individual passing by you.
You forcefully clutched your purse to you, walking briskly to your car and unlocking before climbing in and locking yourself inside. You let out a breath you didn't realize you were even holding as your eyes continued to scan the perimeter for any type of threat.
Did you already mention how much you hated this?
“It's okay Y/N, it's okay, just take it easy,” you whispered to yourself, taking a deep breath before putting on your seat belt and starting the car.
As you drove to the hospital you couldn't help but constantly look at the rear view mirror, almost as if you expected someone to be following you but they weren't, there was no car that you repeatedly noticed behind you.
Your cell phone started ringing and you took it from inside your bag, not taking your eyes off the road. Without even looking who it was, imagining for a moment it was Jay, you answered.
“Hello?”.
The smile on your lips instantly disappeared when instead of a voice you started to hear a heavy sigh, almost a pant.
“Hello?”.
You took the phone away from your ear and glanced at the screen, noting that it wasn't Jay, or anyone else you knew, but an unknown ID.
“Who is this?” You continued, hoping whoever it was would answer and maybe you'd recognize the voice. The person on the other end of the phone just kept sighing heavily, making your heart beat so hard you thought you were about to have a heart attack at any moment.
“What the fuck do you want from me?! Leave me alone!” You screamed, in the grip of fear, anxiety and anger that this person was forcing you to suffer. You closed the call and threw the cell phone on the passenger seat, not caring if it had bumped into something or was broken.
Your vision began to blur with tears fearing for your safety. They had your number. They knew where you lived. What kept them from taking you and killing you?
Your hands were shaking on the wheel as you parked at the hospital, palms sweaty. Your heart was still pounding and there wasn't a muscle in your body that didn't shake like your hands.
You took a few minutes to compose yourself, not wanting to cause questions from colleagues about the reason of your emotional state.
You took a few deep breaths and wiped your tears away, constantly telling yourself that everything was fine, that you'd be fine, that no one could hurt you in the hospital.
You never felt the need to have Jay with you like then. God you were stupid, so fucking stupid for not telling him about all of this before, for keeping everything inside you and hoping it’d eventually just go away, for underestimating what was happening. You were being stalked.
You texted him, telling him you'd arrived at the hospital and asking how his day was going, determined to tell him about the person who was stalking you as soon as you got off work.
You never thought you'd say it but you were never as glad you had a hard shift as you were that afternoon. Four patients arrived, one after suffering a stroke, two from a car accident and another after falling from the roof of his house.
The entire shift consisted of you and your colleagues running back and forth across the ward, treating patients, resuscitating them after one of them went into cardiac arrest twice. Your mind was focused on nothing but your patients and in treating them, everything else was left out of the hospital. You wouldn't let whoever was stalking you ruin your job, ever.
At the end of the shift there was no need to say you were dead tired and couldn't wait to go to sleep and although it was only 8:00 pm, the lack of sleep of the night before starting to take a toll on you.
As you placed your stethoscope in the locker and grabbed your bag, you removed your engagement ring from the chain around your neck and putted it on your finger. Your cell phone rang following a text notification and your heart skipped a beat for an instant.
The anxiety, which you managed to not to think about during the afternoon, returned stronger than ever to grip your stomach and for a moment you considered to throw the phone away.
But you thought it’d Jay and when you realized that it was indeed him, you breathed a sigh of relief. He said he'd be late that night because of a particularly difficult case and to let him know when you'd be done and went back home.
You tried to hide your sorrow, not wanting to be alone, especially in that situation.
You quickly typed a text back, asking him what he’d like for dinner, and put your cell phone in your bag. You said goodbye to your colleagues and walked towards the hospital exit.
You took a deep breath, praying to God to go home safe and sound.
Although spring had arrived it was particularly cold that evening due to the wind blowing and you cursed yourself for not bringing a jacket with you.
You walked, actually, almost ran to your car.
Anxiety was eating you alive and your heart was pounding, fear flowing like a river through your veins.
After taking the keys from your bag and unlocked the car, you quickly looked around, a sigh of relief leaving your lips when you saw no one was around you.
But suddenly the keys fell out of your hands as a slimy hand placed over your mouth and an arm around your hips.
Your bag fell to the ground as you began to squirm in an attempt to free yourself from whoever grabbed you.
Adrenaline coursed through your veins as the fear of dying made you fight like never before.
You screamed, your throat burning, even though because of the hand your scream came out muffled.
“Stop fighting it, it had to happen sooner or later, you knew it was going to happen sweetie,” A man's voice came hoarsely to your ears and you suppressed a gag.
You managed to hit his side with your elbow, hard enough to loosen his grip on you and you tried to push him away with all the strength you had in your body.
“You fucking whore!”.
You threw yourself to get the car keys on the asphalt but the man was faster than you and grabbed your arm, pressing his fingers into your skin with such force you were sure they’d leave a mark.
A searing, stinging pain radiated up your face as his fist hit you full-on, knocking you to the ground. You put your hands forward to try to cushion the fall, but it caused you scratches and minor lacerations on both your forearms.
“We're meant to be. I know you want it. I saw it.”
You glanced at him and almost fainted when after few seconds your recognized him.
You had already met him. He was the guy you bumped into two weeks ago.
What the fuck?!
He tried to grab your wrists but before forcing you to get up, you managed to kick him in his genital area, using all the strength you had in your body. A sound of pure pain escaped his mouth and he backed away, leaning forward and gripping the sore area with his hands.
You took advantage of that moment of weakness to get off the asphalt. You weren't going to let him hurt you, not anymore.
You grabbed his black hair in two fists and you didn't care about the damage you would’ve caused him, you didn't care you were a nurse, that you were supposed to be the one to treat people and not hurt them, but you kneed him in his face and the horrible noise his bones made, suggested you most likely broke his nose.
You pushed him to the ground, ignoring the way he grunted in pain and the blood pouring profusely from his nose, kicking him in the stomach with such force that even you were stunned.
You never fought in your entire life, never kicked anyone or punched someone, you hated the idea of hurting people but at that very moment your life was on the line and you had to protect yourself.
The man was laying on the asphalt grunting and muttering some curse word and you took advantage of it. You had to run away, that was your only chance.
You quickly grabbed your car keys and purse off the ground before opening the door and getting in. You locked yourself in before you started fumbling to get the vehicle going.
Your hands were shaking and your vision was still blurry from the punch he had thrown at you.
You gave him a quick look, terrified he’d get up and kill you on the spot.
You didn't know how but you managed to start the car and without even looking back you drove away from that parking lot. You knew you couldn't drive in those conditions but you just wanted to get away from that monster.
You didn't know where to go, you didn't want to go home, the terror of being attacked there would’ve killed you so you went to the place where there was the only person you wanted to see, the only one who could make you feel better, safe.
The journey to the district was awful.
Your body was driving but it was as if you were experiencing everything from the outside, as if your soul had left your body and was looking at you from afar.
You didn't know how you managed to drive and not run over anyone or crash yourself.
Your breathing was still quickening, your chest rose and fell as if you'd run a marathon, your trembling hands struggling to hold onto the steering wheel. Your vision was blurred due to copious tears flowing from your eyes and streaming down your face, not even realizing you were crying desperately.
Your face was in pain and you were sure a huge bruise would appear on your cheek, although you didn't care, grateful you were still alive, that you managed to escape.
When you arrived at the district, you didn’t care about parking your car properly, or to take your bag or lock it after getting off. You just wanted Jay.
A smile appeared on Sergeant Platt's face the moment she saw you walking up the stairs, but when she noticed the way you were running, it immediately disappeared.
“Oh my God Y/N!” she exclaimed as soon as she saw you up close. Your face was streaked with tears, an expression of pure terror and fear contouring your features, your uniform stained with dust. She ran towards you, placing her hands on your arms. “What happened to you?” She took a look at your body looking for any other injury. “Oh dear. It's okay, whatever happened you're safe here.”
You kept breathing hard and your eyes were so full of tears you could barely see her.
“Shh it's okay. Come on, let's go sit down.”
She put her arm around your shoulders as she took your hand with her free one as a sign of support. She led you into one of the break rooms, making you sit on the couch and sitting next to you.
Her hand kept squeezing yours meanwhile the other stroked your back, trying to calm you down.
“Do you want some water?” She asked and you nodded, not being able to speak at the moment. Trudy got up and ran to get a bottle of water.
She handed it to you after opening the cap and it broke her heart to see the way you were shaking. “T-thanks,” you stammered, your chest shaking with sobs. “J-Jay.”
“I'm going to call him right away, don't move from here,” she said, seeing the way you needed him. She got up and ran upstairs, where Intelligence was still busy working on the case.
Everyone turned to the sergeant, who was at the top of the stairs with an expression that did not bode well. “Trudy, did something happen?” Voight asked as soon as he saw her but her gaze fell on Jay, who was standing by the whiteboard, arms folded across his chest.
“Jay… It's Y/N…” She spoke, saying nothing else. “She's downstairs now…”
Jay's eyes widened at the sergeant's words, his eyebrows furrowed in an expression of worry and fear. He knew something was up, by the way Platt looked at him and a wave of anxiety hit him, his mind now focused only on you.
Without even letting her finish the sentence, he quickly moved away from the others, running down the stairs, almost tripping on his feet. Trudy followed him, giving no explanation to the rest of the team who just exchanged a worried look.
“Where's she?” he asked hurriedly and Trudy pointed him to the room you were in.
He burst into the room and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw you sitting on the sofa but immediately worrying when he saw the state you were in. Trudy closed the door behind him, leaving you two alone and not giving any other cops a chance to snoop.
You had your elbows resting on your knees, your hands on your face as your leg bounced up and down almost obsessively.
“Baby!”.
His voice made you snap your head to him and before you knew it, you were rushing into his arms, squeezing yours around his torso with so much force you were almost afraid he’d disappear.
Jay was surprised for a moment but immediately returned that hug, wrapping his arms around your shoulders and hugging you like he never did. He had no idea what had happened, but whatever it was he knew it was serious and that was enough to make his heart race.
“I'm here baby, I'm here. I'm not going anywhere. It's okay,” he whispered, placing a kiss on your head, stroking your hair. You cried in his arms, with relief because he was finally there with you.
His heart sank as he heard you cry like that, feeling helpless like never before. You kept shaking and, without even knowing anything, Jay promised himself whoever had done this to you was a dead person.
“Baby you're making me worry to death. Please talk to me,” his voice coming out desperately. You broke away from his embrace, but still remained very close to him. “Darling, look at me. What happened?”.
His hands rested on your face and inevitably on the bruised cheek. You winched in pain and this didn't escape Jay, who was on the verge of losing his mind by then. “Y/N. Look at me,” he urged and you did as he said, lifting your head and making eye contact with him.
His breath caught in his chest as his gaze fell on the clear purple bruise on your cheek.
“What the fuck? Y/N…” he stammered, an incredulous and horrified look on his face as he looked at you. He took his hand away from your wounded cheek, placing two fingers under your chin and turning your head to inspect it better. “Shit baby… What happened? Who did this to you?”.
His heart was pounding in his chest and as his eyes looked at every single inch of that bruise that lined your cheek, every single cell in his body lit up with rage. Seeing the desperation on your face, the look of pure terror with which you were looking at him, the way your eyes were so full of tears, Jay felt as if he had stabbed and someone had twisted the knife over and over again.
“I-I… H-he…” you stammered meaninglessly, sobbing between words clearly still unable to speak.
“Oh baby come here,” he hugged you again, this time even harder than he had before. “My beautiful princess. It's okay, it's okay, you're safe now do you hear me? You're safe.” He tried to comfort you “I'm here now, I'm here. You’re not alone anymore and I will never let anyone hurt you again. You’re safe with me my love.”
“I-I was…” another sob “So… S-so scared…” you cried into his shirt, wetting it with your tears.
“I know, my baby, I know,” he whispered, placing lots of little kisses on your head. “I'm so sorry. It wasn't supposed to happen, not to you. But you're safe now, I'm here with you, you’re safe with me.” He kept repeating to you.
You both sat on the couch and he continued to hug you indefinitely, holding you and cradling you in his arms until you calmed down. “Sorry,” you muttered, your voice weak as you pulled away from his embrace, gesturing at his tear-stained t-shirt.
“Don’t even say it,” he replied. He raised his hand and stroked your hair, tucking it behind your ears as you kept your gaze on your hands. He was about to continue speaking when his eyes fell on the bruises on your arm, visible outside of your uniform.
His fingers lifted the sleeve to take a better look of the bruises on your skin. He immediately understood they were finger markers, a sign that someone had violently grabbed your arm.
“Oh darling,” he whispered, shattered at the sight of those horrible marks on your beautiful skin “What have they done to you?” His fingers caressed you gently, being careful not to hurt you further.
He was furious, like he had been a few other times in his life, and he still hadn't heard the story.
“Tell me what happened, please.”
You sighed and with still trembling voice, started talking. You told him about everything, about the roses, about the feeling of being followed, about the text, about the call and about the man who attacked you, the fact you already saw him for few seconds weeks prior, how he hit you and how you defended yourself.
“Why the hell didn't you tell me about it sooner?!” Jay snapped, when you finished speaking “This was never going to happen dammit! I would’ve killed that fucking son of a bitch.”
He leapt to his feet, running his hands over his face and pacing around the room. He didn't want to pick on you, it wasn't your fault and he knew it, but he was so damn angry, so angry you had to go through this, that he wasn't there to protect you.
His eyes landed on you noticing how yours quickly filled with tears again at his words and the tone of voice he used. “No, no, no baby, don't cry,” he rushed over to you, kneeling in front of you and wiping away the tears with his thumbs. “I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to blame you. It's not your fault, please don't cry.”
His hands rested on your knees as you looked at him with sad, broken eyes, making his heart break over and over again. “You’re right I should have told you about it…”
“No, baby, don't get this into your head okay? It's not your fault, I’m so sorry for snapping like that I’m just so fucking furious for what that piece of shit did to you. It’s his fault, he hurt you and make you go through all of this. I hate you had to go through this alone and I wasn’t there to help you,” He sighed “I knew something wasn't right, I should have…” Jay stopped his eyes suddenly widening as you looked at him confused.
“Oh my god, that's… That's what you wanted to tell me this morning, isn't it?”. You didn't answer, effectively giving him the answer he needed.
Jay scrambled to his feet again, as if he'd just been given an electric shock. “Fuck!” He tried to keep control but you jumped as he kicked a chair in anger before placing his hands on the table and bowing his head, his back towards you.
“Jay…” you mumbled, standing up and walking towards him. You placed a hand on his back even though he didn't move from that position.
“It's my fault, this…” he choked on his own words “If I had stopped and listened to you this morning… Shit… It shouldn't have happened… I’m so sorry…”
“Hey, hey, no baby,” you interrupted him “Don't be hypocritical and tell me to not blame me and then do the same.”
He turned his head to you and it broke your heart to see his eyes full of tears. “I was late Y/N… I… This happened to you because I didn't stop for five fucking minutes to listen to you!”.
“Jay, listen to me,” you spoke to him softly. You lightly pulled his arm, causing him to straighten his back. You cupped your hands over his face, stroking his cheeks. “It's that crazy bastard's fault okay? Not yours, not mine.”
“If something happened to you… God…”
“No. Let's not do this. No ifs and buts. I'm here and I'm fine, I was scared shitless, I'm still scared shitless, but I'll be fine. You’re here with me and you’re all I need baby. These are just bruises and they'll be gone in a couple days,” you croaked “You should’ve seen how he looked then.”
He sighed before letting out a chuckle though the tears, hugging you for the third time, his hand stroking your hair. “We'll get him okay? And I'll fucking make him pay for what he did to you.”
You and Jay went upstairs, not wanting to let you disappear from his sight for even a second, after reassuring Trudy and telling her what had happened. Needless to say, she threatened to kill the bastard herself if Jay didn't. The way he answered told you that there was no need and that he’d certainly sort it out.
“I'll get you some ice for the bruise,” Kim had offered. The rest of the team didn't take it quite well either and Voight promised you they’d catch the bastard who hurt you. You and Jay had been together for a long time and you were part of the group now, an attack on one of them was an attack on all of them.
“Thank you,” you thanked her with a warm smile, placing the bag of ice on your face. The cold sent a rush of shivers up your spine.
“Come on baby, let's go in the break room,” Jay had said, his hand resting on your lower back. However, your gaze fell on the white board on which various photos and sentences were hung.
At first you didn't notice, but when your eyes saw a particular photo, you did a double take, stopping in your tracks and lowering the hand that was holding the ice.
“Baby? Are you okay?” Jay immediately asked alarmed, then following the direction of your gaze. “Oh. That's the case we're investigating.”
The photo just on the blackboard wasn't clear enough, it was a frame taken from a surveillance video but you could distinguish the features of the man it portrayed.
You stopped breathing for a second and your mind retraced in those brief moments your aggression, still fresh and imprinted in your memory.
“Y/N?” Jay pressed, worried about your reaction as his hand caressed your back.
“It-it… Jay…” you breathed out “It's him…”
“What?!” Jay's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets and everyone in the unit couldn't mask their surprise.
“It was him… H-he attacked me… Oh god…”
Your hands start shaking again and you thanked that Jay was there to hold you or you would’ve probably collapsed on the floor.
Your eyes moved from that frame to the other hanging photos. There were four photos depicting four different women, more or less your age and similar in appearance to yours. Alongside these were other photos portraying instead what were unmistakably the victims’ bodies.
You were in complete shock.
What were the odds that the man stalking you was the same Jay was investigating on?
“C’mon let’s go,” Jay put his arm around your shoulders, leading you to the break room and closing the door behind him.
You weren't even crying. You were just completely shocked.
“Jay… He…” you stammered as if you were having trouble coordinating your thoughts. He put both of his hands on your shoulders.
“Baby, just breathe okay? Do it with me, take a deep breath.”
You shook yourself out of his grip, now in a panic. How could you calm down?
“He was… He would’ve killed me Jay, like… Like those women… Holy shit…” you continued to babble. You couldn't believe it. You understood that bastard was to be locked up somewhere, but you never, ever imagined he was a serial killer, that he’d done that before to those poor women. What if you didn't fight? What if he managed to overpower you?
Jay closed his hands into a fist, pressing his nails into his palms in an attempt to let out even a tiny bit of the anger, rage and fear he was feeling at the moment.
He didn't even want to imagine it, the thought was enough to make him sick. He didn't want to imagine what could happen to you. He run the risk of losing you forever without even realizing it.
Jay couldn't exist in a world where you weren't there. He couldn't even pass the idea of not having you next to him, the pain from this thought alone was unbearable and it was enough to make his heart shatter to pieces. Damn it, he asked you to marry him, you were his fiancée, his soon to be wife, the future mother of his children. You had to start a family together, buy a bigger house to raise your children and you’d live and grow old together, forever.
He couldn't accept some son of a bitch threatened to take you away from him, the most beautiful person he'd ever met, the love of his life, his anchor and his salvation.
“What happened to those women?” You asked, afraid to hear the answer.
“Baby…”
“No Jay, please, just… Just tell me. What happened to them?”.
Jay took a deep breath, knowing that telling you would only make you feel worse. “No, love. Listen to me now,” he walked over to you, placing a hand on your healthy cheek and stroking your skin with his thumb. “Don't torture yourself like this, it won't do you any good to know, please trust me. You were so brave and you managed to knock out that son of a bitch and now you're here with me, safe, so just think about this okay? I beg you. I don't even want to think about what happened to those poor women, I don't want to think something like that could’ve happened to you and I don't want you to think about it either.”
He was right. You didn't want to know, sometimes it was better to live in the unknown.
“I'm so proud of you,” he whispered, kissing your forehead as his fingers wiped away your tears with excruciating delicacy. “I would’ve died if anything had happened to you baby, I love you so, so fucking much. I couldn't have survived without you.”
“I love you so much Jay,” you too replied in a whisper before sharing a soft, sweet kiss, your nerves starting to finally calm down. “What happens now?”.
“You’ll stay here and we’ll continue to work non-stop until we catch that bastard.”
“Are you sure I can stay here?”.
“Is this even a question?” He looked at you as if you were an alien “Yes baby, of course you can. You have stay here. I need to know you're safe or I won't be able to think of anything else and I know nothing can happen to you if you’re here. If you need anything call me and I’ll be here okay? Try to get some rest, and put ice on your cheek.”
You nodded, knowing that even you wouldn't feel safe anywhere else but there in the district.
After sitting on the small sofa in the break room you eventually fell asleep, tired and worn out from the shift, the day's events and the lack of sleep from the previous night.
Jay and the rest of the team worked nonstop to try and locate the suspect whose name was still unknown. After learning you had hit his nose and you had probably broken it, they called the hospitals in the area and within a radius of about 20km – deducing he wouldn’t be so stupid to go to the hospital where you worked – with the hope that he’d go to get treated.
This hope turned out to be a reality when Kevin was told by a hospital just outside the city that there was a patient matching the description who was still there waiting to be treated for his broken nose.
When Jay went into the break room to warn you they'd found a lead, his heart skipping a beat seeing you asleep. Your head was resting on the back of the couch, your arms folded across your abdomen as your chest slowly rose and fell.
A sad smile spread across his face as he approached you with silent steps, his chest tightening at the sight of that horrible bruise on your cheek. As his eyes roamed on your body, he then noticed some scratches on your forearms and his stomach dropped again for the thousand time that night. He’d never forgive himself for not being able to help you, for failing to realize sooner what was happening, allowing someone to hurt you, he was hating himself for not being there to protect you.
He decided not to wake you up and he leaned over you, gently stroking your hair and tucking a strand behind your ear that had fallen in front of your face. He kissed your forehead, taking an extra second to savor the moment, grateful to still being able to do it.
“I love you so much my baby,” he whispered, “Everything will be okay, I promise you.”
After telling Trudy to stay by your side and never leave you alone, he headed towards the hospital where the suspect was supposed to be, his blood boiling with anger, his hands shaking with the frenzy of being able to have that son in his hands.
The stalker, however, after seeing the cops coming, didn't hesitate for a second to run away. Jay chased after him, determined not to let him get away.
“Chicago PD! Stop now!” Jay shouted as he quickly descended the emergency stairs and followed the man, skipping a few steps at a time in an attempt to reach him first. The fact the man was injured went to his advantage as Jay took the opportunity to jump on his back, causing both of them to fall heavily to the ground.
Jay's vision immediately blurred with anger.
He punched him in the face, using all the strength he had in his body to hurt him. “Son of a bitch!” He exclaimed through clenched teeth, punching him again and again. He didn't care about anything, he didn't care about the consequences there could be. He just wanted to see him suffer, to see him writhe in pain and fear, just the way you did.
“You made a fucking mistake tonight,” Jay spat, standing up and grabbing him by the collar of his shirt, lifting him up like a sack of potatoes before slamming him heavily against the wall. The man coughed, letting out sounds of pain even if Jay couldn't care less. “You'll wish you’d never met her when I'm done with you, you worthless piece of shit.”
He hit him in the face with another punch, not caring about the blood splattered on him after each blow.
He didn't even realize he wasn't alone anymore. Voight was there and watched the scene without batting an eyelid. He deserved it, he deserved everything Jay would do to him, not just for you but also for those poor women who weren’t lucky enough to survive. He knew there was no way to stop him, even if he wanted to, especially since you were involved.
Jay hit the man's head against the wall, then pushing him to the ground. He approached him and without any mercy and without even acknowledging the man's suffering, he kicked him in the stomach.
“Fuck…” the man murmured weakly.
“Look at me you son of a bitch!” Jay cursed, grabbing him by the collar of his shirt again and punching him in the face. “You thought it was fucking fun to hurt my fiancée?!”.
Another strong punch.
“Answer me!” He shouted, knowing he’d not receive a response.
Jay had completely lost control.
His mind was only picturing your wounded and tear-stained face, your terrified expression, your eyes full of tears, the bruises on your arm, on your face, the scratches, the way you hugged him so tightly because of the terror you felt, the fear you must have felt in those weeks.
“You thought you’d get away with it huh?! Making my future wife's life a fucking hell?!” He growled again, kicking this time the man’s face. “Making her scared of her own fucking shadow?!”.
Another kick in the stomach.
He was about to kill him and he didn’t give a fuck.
He bent over the man who was then barely breathing. “Did you like putting your useless dirty hands on my girl, huh?” he hissed as his foot stepped on one of the man’s hand with so much force until he heard his screams and his bones cracking.
He didn't move anymore, now unconscious and covered in his own blood.
Voight intervened at that point, not even knowing if he was alive or not. “That's okay Jay, calm down now.” He placed his hands on his shoulders, pulling him away from the unconscious man. Jay was breathing heavily, as if he had just run a marathon, his angry eyes still focused on the bastard lying on the ground.
“Now get away from here. Go out from the emergency exit and drive back to your fiancée, you were always there with her okay? I’m sure she needs you now.” Voight had ordered him but Jay didn't respond at first. “Halstead.”
At that point Jay focused his gaze on his boss and nodded feebly, casting one last glance at the stalker before walking away.
He wiped his face and hands with a handkerchief he had found in the car, trying to ignore the pain in his swelled hand, his knuckles red.
He never regretted what he did.
He had always condemned the brutal ways some cops used, like his own boss did sometimes, but in that moment he didn't stop to think about how he’d not hesitate even a second to do it again and make suffer anyone who’d hurt you.
When it came to you he’d lose his mind, his judgment clouded. You were the most important person in his life, the most precious of treasures, and he’d protect you with his own life if he could, if it meant keep you safe forever. It may have seemed an exaggeration, it may have seemed crazy, but he didn't care, God, he would’ve burn the entire city to the ground if it meant protecting you.
And as he drove to the district, eager to see you again, only one thought ran through his mind: how much he regretted not making that piece of shit suffer more.

You had just gotten out of your car across the street from the side of Med and, as you were making your way through the bit of road that led to the hospital, a car comes into the driveway — screeching tires, in full speed — and runs you over long before you could even see anything and, there, in the matter of a few seconds, everything goes black and you’re left bleeding out in the street.
Almost an hour later, after you had regained consciousness and had begun dragging yourself, very slowly, towards the hospital, Will and Ethan, about to go inside Med, spot you and run your way eager to help you out — even if they hadn’t known it was you at first.
“Oh man, it’s Dr. (y/n) (y/l/n)!” Ethan exclaimed.
“(y/n), can you hear me?!?” You sort of heard Will ask through your dizziness haze.
“Wow, you’re actually shorter this up close than I had imagined at first.” You attempted a joke with your friend, momentarily gaining some clarity.
Ignoring you, Will just asked no one specifically, “oh Lord, how long has she been bleeding out here?”
Decisive as always, you heard as Dr. Choi commanded, “I don’t know but, come on, Will, let’s carry her to the ED!”
As soon as your friends get inside the hospital with you, everybody stays in shock for a moment until Maggie yells: "get her in treatment 4, now!"
Following her lead, Will and Ethan get started on treating you, who has a few broken ribs, and free fluid in your belly besides from a punctured spleen. Having done their best in the ED, they decide to send your upstairs for surgery with Crocket.
Once you're going to surgery, Miss Goodwin tells Maggie and the doctors to call PD and specifically ask for Intelligence, since you were friends with the unit. As the cops get there, one stands out: Jay Halstead. He's frantic, devastated-looking, just completely lost, and desperate to hear more news about your condition. No one really understands why he is reacting like that, but all of them do share the fear of losing a great friend. Voight's giving out assignments to the team, so Jay knows that that's when he needs to speak up.
"Um, sarge?" All eyes are on him. "If you and the team don't mind running one man short today... I was hoping that I could, um, stay here with- with her?" Hank just stares at him, unlike everyone else — who are shocked — the older man's focus is on his detective's eyes, on the way he was so distraught from the moment they got the call about (y/l/n). That was the behavior, the look, of a terrified man. And, as everyone there knew, Jay Halstead — the freaking war vet — wasn't one to get scared easily. "(y/n) and I-"
"It's fine. No need to explain. You should stay here, Jay. Let us know, in case anything changes. And we'll catch the son of a bitch." He said firmly, making Jay feel as appreciative as ever, and, also, sending an implicit message to all the other members of the unit, one that said: we work this with all we got right now, for (y/n), and for Jay, no questions asked.
After the officers left the hospital, there was still a big commotion from everyone who stayed, because it was one of their own up there in the or. But, surpassing everyone else's, was Will's surprise by how distraught Jay looked, especially considering how his little brother wanted to stay at the hospital, instead of going to find who hurt you. So he comes to confront the detective about it. "So... You and (y/n) are a thing?" Will asked, trying to understand. Since Jay just nodded his head, he decided to push a little further: "And... Were you ever planning to tell me? What the hell, man?"
"Will, I-"
"She's one of my best friends, Jay! Not to mention the fact that I'm the doctor who oversees her work here!"
"Will you put it down?" Jay pleaded with his brother, motioning him to a more reserved corner of the waiting room. "I know, okay? I know. And I'm sorry if it upsets you, man, I really am. But this could've blown her career. That's why we hadn't told you yet." It was clear that Will didn't exactly like his brother's explanation, but he knew it was true.
"Just... How long?"
"Um, about six months?"
"Six months?!" The doctor yelled in shock, then repeated it in a lower tone. "But, six months?"
"Yeah, I know it's a lot of time keeping you in the dark, Will. But, trust me, we weren't thrilled about it. And we were hoping to tell you soon. I swear." Jay said, and his brother could, once again, see it was the truth.
"So, that means that when you started seeing each other she was still finishing med school?"
"Yeah, that's right. Which was, like, the main reason for us to keep it under wraps. An intern dating the attending doctor's little brother? Wouldn't look good."
"That's true..." At that point, Will took another look at his brother. Jay looked so worried and scared, even while trying to hide it. "So, uh, you guys are serious?" That question got a little smile out of the detective.
"Yes, we are. I know that it is new for you... But, I love her, Will. I really do." He took a moment to breathe, not being able to hold back some tears this time. “And, I can’t lose her. I just can’t.”
“Jay…” Will started saying but didn’t quite know how to continue. What could he possibly say to comfort his brother right now? “We just… We just gotta stay hopeful, okay? (y/n) is a really tough person and Dr. Marcel is a great surgeon, you know it. She is gonna pull through.”
A lot of disquieting hours later Crocket finally comes out of the surgery, just to be met by a very worried hospital staff and an on-edge Jay Halstead.
"Where is sh- How is she? Is (y/n) okay? Can I see her?" The detective hovers, not even taking a breath.
"Wow! Uh, you gotta calm down a little, buddy."
"Don't give me that crap! Just- just tell me how she is!" Jay shouts again, not giving a damn about what anyone was thinking. You were the only thing on his mind right now.
"Alright. But try to keep breathing, okay?" To that, the other man didn't even bother to answer. "Okay, um, it was a very complicated surgery, I had to do a lot of cleaning and moving around to get to the worst parts and-"
"Can you please just cut to the part where you tell me if she's okay? No offense, but you can fill me in on the details later." Jay stated nervously. It wasn't just that he wanted to know what was the result of all those hours in the or, but, also, because Jay knew he wouldn't understand half of what Connor was saying, even with the simplified language. You would. But not him.
"Right. Okay. She's, um, she's okay for now. We'll need to monitor her on an hourly basis, though." By that point, the surgeon could already see the relief on both Halsteads' faces, so he went on. "We controlled the bleeding, but, with all the blood loss," he stopped to take another look at the detective, "I'm afraid," another pause, because, sure he had delivered this kind of news before, but this time it was a lot harder, because those people were his friends. And, what they had just lost, he had just lost too, in a way, "we couldn't save the baby."
"The baby?" This time he got an answer from both brothers.
"Uh, uh... You, uh, you didn't know she was pregnant?" Crocket asked, kind of already guessing the answer while sharing a look with Will.
"Oh my God..." It was all the youngest Halstead managed to let out. Seeing how his brother was unable to react any further, Will decided to step up and ask the tough questions.
"So, um,  if everything goes well from now on, you think that (y/n/n) will make a full recovery?"
"Ahhh, yes, actually. She was in great health, so, after making it through, uh, through the night, she shouldn't have any major issues." At that point, Marcel himself was trying to be as objective and as doctorish as possible, in order not to make things worse for the man who had just heard that he lost a child he didn't even have a chance to wait for.
"So, is it, um- is it possible that she didn't know about the pregnancy yet?" But, damn it, Will just kept asking all the impossible questions.
"Uh... It is, actually. Very possible." Hearing that, the detective immediately glued his eyes on him. "We estimate that the fetus was about seven weeks. It's very common that women on birth control haven't found out about it at that point." As neither Halstead said anything, Marcel continued, "well, she's up in the ICU now and in and out of consciousness but, if you want, you can see her for a few minutes."
Hearing that, the detective came out of his haze and said: "Yeah, I wanna see her!"
A few hours later, as Will Halstead gathered his things after finishing his shift, he decided to go check on you but got surprised when he realized that his brother was still there, in the waiting room. "Jay, what are you still doing here?"
"I'm waiting," he said simply.
"Jay." Will called again, "you can't do this, you need to go home, get some sleep, eat…"
"I'm not leaving her alone."
"She's not gonna be alone, Jay." Not getting any response, Will decided to lead with something else. "You know, Voight called Goodwin and said that they're hitting a lot of walls in the (y/l/n) investigation…" Measuring his brother's reaction, Will continued: "Maybe they'd have better luck working with the whole team…"
"Yeah, you're probably right. Tomorrow I'll tell Voight that I want in on the investigation." Jay said, not making any sign of wanting to leave.
"Jay, you can't work tomorrow after staying here the whole night!" Seeing his little brother still not intending to leave, he threatened, "if you don't go home right now, I'll call Voight myself and tell him that you're in no shape to work-"
"Oh, c'mon! You're gonna do that!"
"I wouldn't be so sure if I were you," Will said, looking as serious as they get. "Look, Jay, you know she's in good hands here. And, whatever happens, you'll be the first to know, I've made sure of it."
"But-"
"But nothing, Jay! It's time to go, come on!" Will pressed so much that Jay resigned himself to do as his brother told him.
For almost a week, you stayed in the ICU. For almost a week, Jay Halstead passed by Med on his way to work and on his way home from work.
Once you were moved to a room, Jay started feeling like he could finally breathe again, even though there was now the baby that someone had still to tell you. And, after chatting with Will and Crockett, Jay had already decided he was gonna be the one to deliver the news to you. So, one day, after Intelligence had already caught the drug dealers that were running away when they hit you, Jay asked Voight for the afternoon off to take you home from the hospital.
When you were at your place, you asked Jay what was going on: "Hey, you didn't say a word on the way here, is anything besides the fact that I just spent almost two weeks in the hospital and that everyone found out about us wrong?"
"Let's sit down for a minute, babe."
The minute he said that, you knew there was something really wrong.
"Okay, you're scaring me…" You said while sitting down on the couch.
"I just- I have something important to tell you," and, like that, Jay proceeded to tell you the worst thing you ever heard. It's not like you'd been planning on becoming a mother or anything like that anytime soon but it was still a possibility that was brutally taken away… You and Jay cried together for the first time and, consoling each other, you felt your relationship growing stronger.
So much so that after some time you could start talking about the future that both of you foresaw with one another and, even though nothing was completely decided, there was one thing you knew for sure: as long as you were together, you could face anything.

shopping
jay loves you so much he actively enjoys being dragged around dress shopping
jay halstead x reader tooth rotting fluff x
Tumblr media
“What do you think of this one?” You ponder, running your fingers over the fabric of a dress in the millionth store you’d dragged your boyfriend into. You had left the finding of a dress for your friends wedding pretty last minute and so far, despite the fact Jay would attested you looked drop dead gorgeous in every single one of them, you were still declaring that you hadn’t found one that looked good on you.
“Why don’t you try it on?” Your boyfriend suggests, attracting your frazzled attention to him. When your eyes land on him there isn’t an ounce of annoyance towards you. Men notoriously hate doing things like this, following their partner around shops. Jay’s missing the game today, he’s probably knackered from working constantly and you wouldn’t be surprised if he was thinking of elaborate ways he could kill you and make it look like an accident right now just like many men stuck shopping with their partners have done in years gone by. Boyfriends before him to you and other women across the country have moaned and groaned the entire way around, asking repeatedly when you would be done and genuinely considering leaving you there.
Jay had not murmured so much as one complaint.
Jay Halstead is probably the best boyfriend in the world. He drove you here, he reacts with the same adoration with each and every dress you walked out in. Your boyfriend - not probably - unarguably, is the best boyfriend in the world. Only whilst you’re trying on a million dresses will he fiddle about with his phone, but the second you emerge to show him, his phone immediately goes away so he can direct his full attention to you again. He even carries the dresses you’re going to try and will lift them out of your reach when you try to protest. The only thing he’s threatened you with so far is that he would rip one particular dress clean off you and have you in that dressing room if you weren’t careful.
Ever the gentleman, Jay Halstead.
You had never had a love like this before.
All of a sudden you’re overcome with guilt, a frown falling onto your face. On duty or not, your boyfriend is a detective immediately a frown of his own appears across his beautiful features, concern furrowing his brow as he notices your face falling. “Baby,what’s wrong? You’ll get something. And besides, you know I think you look amazing in all of them.” Jay soothes softly as he takes a few steps towards you in concern at the sudden sadness written across your features. “No it’s not that,” you sigh, “You never get time off and today you have and i’m dragging you around half the stores in Chicago. I’m so sorry Jay, we can just go and i’ll come back another time.” You hurry to grab the other two dresses he was holding for you and stuff them back onto the rail they came from while Jay simply stood still and cocked an eyebrow.
“Jay?”
“Are you finished?” He taunts, prompting you to furrow your brows. “Am i finished wha-“
“Do you really think i would rather be anywhere else right now?” He asks, almost incredulously as if he cannot believe that you would ever even consider the fact he would want to be anywhere other than with you. “No matter what we’re doing, i’d always rather be with you. I mean what kind of man would complain about watching his hot girlfriend trying on hot dresses all day?” Jay reaches up to cup your cheeks, smoothing his thumbs over the soft surface. “Seriously honey, I’d spend the rest of my days doing this if i got to do it with you. Now let’s get you that perfect dress so i can rip it off you in two weeks eh?”
You snort a laugh, cheeks flushing bright red. “Oh detective Halstead, you are so getting some tonight.”
~~~
“Okay, okay, okay.” Jay hears your voice and finishes off the text he was sending. “What about this one?” He casts his eyes up to you and back at his phone to lock it quickly, but the device nearly actually slips right out of his hand as he attempts to do so. His head snaps back up to you as he stuffs it into his pocket. “Woaaah my god.” He breathes, eyes wide as you blush under his gaze. “Jay…” you trail off, crossing your arms over your chest. Jay has loved all of the dresses so far, so this reaction you assume is just over exaggerated because he wants you to feel good.
If only you could see inside his mind. It’s like some kind of primal alarm has gone off. Jay feels himself building up a little sweat as he blinks a few times to confirm that you are really stood in front of him, really his girlfriend and really that fucking hot. “Seriously, (y/n). I literally don’t have words. If you don’t chose that one we are definitely getting it anyway.” His face is as serious as it is when he’s at work, eyebrows raised to add to his insistence. “This one is my favourite,” you agree bashfully. It is very obviously your boyfriend’s favourite too. The brunette is doing his thing where he’s become a little bit lost, like someone’s reached inside him and spun his head.
He had very effectively been knocked from the unshakable hardened police detective and reduced to a boyfriend who’s adoration for his girlfriend beams right out of him. It’s as though love hearts have appeared in his eyes, heart fluttering at the sight of you giving him a little twirl. Jay’s mouth is dry, his stomach flipping.
The only thought in his mind is that he wants this forever. Your silly little ever-so-slightly timid showing off of outfits, your blushing grin when he compliments every little thing about you, his spinning head, his thumping heart and the knowing he is the one who gets to take you home; all of it. He wants it forever and only with you. He wants to spend all of his forevers totally enthralled by and entirely speechless because of you.
“Perfect. I’ll meet you at the register?” Jay finally speaks, trying not to trip over his own words. You nod with a giggle, making a show of swaying your hips a little extra because you know he’s watching you walk away. One of Jay’s favourite cheeky little phrases to recite comes to mind as you do so, and you know he’s muttering it to himself know. ‘I hate it when you leave but i love to watch you walk away’.
You’re quick to change back into your own clothes, aware Jay is waiting for you and if left alone in a shop too long he will find something to buy for you that is more expensive than you need or start to worry you’ve been the victim of a spontaneous changing room hostage situation. “Any luck?” The older lady manning the dressing room asks you sweetly, immediately forcing a big cheesy grin onto your face at the thought of Jay’s reaction to that dress. You’d had quite a lot of luck recently, you thought. You had gotten lucky with Jay, and you knew that better than anyone else. He was the love you had dreamt of and had been almost certain you’d never find.
“Yep, think i found the one.” You reply, holding the dress up for her to see. “If you don’t mind my saying.” She begins softly before casting her gaze out onto the shop floor to spot Jay before she turns back to you, “I really think you have. He’s one of the good ones.” Jay is just stood there, holding the bag with your new shoes in one hand and your coat tucked under his other arm waiting patiently for you to return so he can wrap his arm around your shoulders and press that kiss on your temple the same way he always does to greet you. Her lips are tugged into a genuine smile. “Brings back your faith in love a little. We don’t see many as good as him.” She adds quietly, watching your eyes cling to the man you love so much. “I don’t think there are any like him.” You admit sheepishly. When you meet her eyes again it’s like she can see right through you. Had you not been so wrapped up in him, you might have humoured the idea that people even outside of your circle can actually tell you Jay were just meant to be.
“I best not keep you any longer, he might burst.”
Despite her joking, you both know the tall brunette doesn’t like being away from you. This lady does not know you and nor does she know Jay, but just by observing for mere moments the way you interact with each other, she knows what everybody knows when they see you together.
How truly and deeply in love you both are.
These moments with him, mundane and boring as some might see them to others, are fleeting for you and Jay. His job keeps him as busy as any job really could. He doesn’t get to come shopping with you as often as he’d like, and Jay is nothing if not hyper aware that he does not always have the luxury of time to treat you how he believes you should be treated.
If anything, he spends a significant amount of time worrying and beating himself up about the time he doesn’t get to spend with you. He’s conscious of the fact that he doesn’t ever get to whisk you away on weekend getaways in case his job needs him or that he doesn’t treat you to fancy dinners as often as a man with a simpler job may be able to. He doesn’t always have the time to hold you in the mornings or fall asleep by your side. Jay Halstead will beat himself up until the day he dies about the fact he cannot shower you in his love the way he wishes he was able to.
In the very same breath, you make sure every worry and fear he has ever had about not being enough for you is squashed before he ever even thinks it’s showing. He is far from insecure about your relationship, but he is nothing if not aware of the fact you are deserving of someone who has more time for you.
To you, it is the mere fact that he makes time where time literally doesn’t exist that matters most.
Whether he has half an hour of a lunch break or no time at all, he will always find a way to make sure he’s texted you, ‘I hope today is treating you well baby. Love you x’. Every day, without fail. When he misses a dinner he will scramble in that front door all puppy eyes and more broken hearted that you could ever be that he’s missed it, with flowers slightly damaged from how quickly he tried to get home and grovelling apologies you accept in the form of a gentle, love soaked kiss on his lips. His apologies are always accepted. How could you ever hold a grudge when you can see his pain in those pretty blue eyes. On your worst days, he will find a way to wrap his love around you tight enough to squeeze all those broken pieces back together. How could you ever be angry when he tries so hard, you know the effort he has gone to in order to stop work from consuming his life the way he once did as a younger, single man. He is there, present or not. He is always there and you know he loves you because he shows you in ways even you haven’t come to fully know. When a case hits a little to close to home he’ll crawl into bed in the middle of the night and he will not let you go. When he knows you are fast asleep safe in his arms, he mumbles about how nothing will ever harm you so long as he’s around. In the time you do get to spend together, you feel so much love that it could last you a lifetime.
You never ever want to be without Jay Halstead.
“You know how much i love you, right?” You mumble softly with your head tucked into his shoulder, waiting in a patient and comfortable silence in the line to pay for your dress. “Course. Why do you ask?” Jay mused, tilting his head a little to look at you. “Dunno, just wanted you to know it’s…a lot i guess.”
“You guess?” Jay teases, jostling you playfully against his side. “You guess?”
“Jayyyy,” you whine, swirling yourself out of his grasp. Your boyfriend throws his head back with a loud chuckle, eyes crinkling the way they do when he’s genuinely happy. Only you can make him smile that way. “I’m trying to be sweet!” Your protest makes him laugh harder.
Before you could even get your phone on the card machine to pay, Jay had already done it and was thanking the man behind the desk. You were pretty much stood guffawing at him, highly displeased that after a day of being dragged here there and everywhere, he was now paying for the clothes you needed. “Now i’m trying to be sweet.” He retorts. “Come on pretty girl,” he rolls his eyes playfully at you, “Lets get out of here eh?”
You always fear you don’t remind him enough that you love him more than words could ever say. Jay on the other hand couldn’t believe such a ridiculous thought could ever come from such a smart woman. He feels your love every single day in every single way.
With your fingers linked together, you and Jay strolled off towards his truck. Jay has this weird feeling in his gut today. He hasn’t been able to put his finger on it all day. Only when he looks over at you in the car, one hand in yours and the other on the wheel, that this feeling is contentment. It’s peace. Just the feeling of total relaxation for the first time in his life. It is you. You are his peace, his lifeline, his home. No matter where you are.
And maybe it’s a little bit of nerves, brought on purely by the little box wrapped in tissue paper and buried under some of the clothes you had bought. Being a gentleman wasn’t the only reason Jay had insisted on carrying your bags.
He was going to propose tonight.
And then he was going to spend forever loving every single little mundane moment you get together for the rest of his life.
A New Perspective
Tumblr media
I sat at the kitchen table, nursing a cup of coffee, while YN flipped through a magazine. We had been best friends for years, and now we were roommates. Our bond was unbreakable, and living together had only strengthened our connection.
As a detective in the Chicago PD, my days were filled with chaos, crime scenes, and the weight of the city's troubles. But when I returned home, I found solace in YN's presence. She was my anchor, always there to listen, support, and offer a shoulder to lean on.
Tonight, however, I had something on my mind that I couldn't shake off. Watching the sunset cast its warm glow through the windows, I took a deep breath and turned to YN. "Can you help me?"
She glanced up from her magazine, concern etched on her face. "Of course, Jay. You know I'm always here for you. What's on your mind?"
I hesitated for a moment, searching for the right words. "It's about this case I've been working on. It's been haunting me, keeping me up at night. I can't seem to find the answers I need, and it's eating me up inside."
YN placed the magazine aside, her eyes filled with empathy. "Tell me about it, Jay. Maybe I can offer a fresh perspective or help you brainstorm."
I recounted the details of the case, the missing pieces that eluded me, and the frustration that came with it. YN listened attentively, her unwavering support giving me the strength to confront my own doubts and uncertainties.
After I finished speaking, there was a brief silence as we both processed the weight of the situation. YN reached out and placed a comforting hand on mine. "Jay, you're an incredible detective. I've seen you solve countless cases, overcome obstacles that seemed impossible. Don't let this one case define your capabilities."
Her words resonated deep within me, and a spark of determination ignited in my heart. YN had a way of grounding me, reminding me of my own strength when I needed it the most. With her unwavering belief in me, I knew I could face any challenge that came my way.
"Thank you, YN," I said, my voice filled with gratitude. "I don't know what I'd do without you."
A warm smile graced her lips. "We're in this together, Jay. No matter what happens, I'll always be here to support you. We'll find a way to crack this case, I promise."
YN and I sat in our makeshift "war room," surrounded by maps, photographs, and scattered notes. With her background as a private investigator, YN had a unique set of skills that complemented my work as a detective. I knew that tapping into her expertise would be invaluable in cracking this case.
"So, YN," I began, leaning forward, "What do you think? Any ideas on where we should focus our attention?"
She studied the evidence board, her eyes scanning every detail. "Well, Jay, based on what you've told me and what I've gathered so far, it seems like this killer is targeting a specific demographic. The victims share similarities in their profiles, which suggests a pattern."
I nodded, impressed by her keen observation. "You're right. There must be a connection between them, something we're missing. We've been looking at it from an investigative standpoint, but maybe we need a fresh perspective."
YN reached for a stack of files and flipped through them, pulling out a few key documents. "I've been doing some digging on my own, cross-referencing the victims' backgrounds, social circles, and recent activities. I think it's worth exploring if they had any common acquaintances or frequented the same places."
Her words sparked a glimmer of hope within me. "That's a great lead, YN. Let's dive deeper into their personal lives and see if we can uncover any connections. Maybe someone close to them knows more than they're letting on."
Over the next few days, YN tirelessly conducted interviews, gathering information from friends, family members, and co-workers of the victims. Her natural charisma and ability to put people at ease proved invaluable in coaxing out hidden details.
As she returned from yet another interview, her eyes gleamed with excitement. "Jay, I think I may have found something. It turns out one of the victims had recently broken up with her boyfriend, but she never mentioned it to anyone. He's been acting strange since then, avoiding questions and changing his routine."
My heart raced with anticipation. "Do we have a name? Can we bring him in for questioning?"
YN nodded, handing me a file. "His name is Mark Thompson. I've already passed this information onto Intelligence, and they're running a background check. If he has a criminal history or any connections to similar cases, we might be onto something."
Sure enough, within hours, our suspicions were confirmed. Mark Thompson had a history of violent behavior and had been implicated in a similar unsolved case a few years ago. With the evidence piling up, it was time to make a move.
We gathered the team, including Intelligence and the tactical units, to plan our next steps. YN's presence in the room brought a fresh perspective, and her ability to connect the dots was invaluable to our strategy.
As we prepared to apprehend Mark Thompson, I turned to YN, gratitude filling my voice. "None of this would have been possible without you, YN. Your investigative skills have been instrumental in bringing us closer to catching this killer."
She smiled, a mix of pride and determination shining in her eyes. "We make a great team, Jay. I'm here to support you, always."
Together, we stormed Thompson's location, ensuring that justice would be served for the victims and their families. YN's expertise combined with our collective efforts brought us one step closer to closing this case.
As we wrapped up the operation, I couldn't help but feel a profound sense of gratitude for YN. Her unwavering support, dedication, and the skills she brought to the table had made all the difference. We were more than just best friends; we were a formidable force, unyielding in our pursuit of justice.
After the intense operation that led to the apprehension of Mark Thompson, YN and I returned to our apartment, both physically and emotionally drained. We collapsed onto the couch, relishing in a moment of silence.
Just as we were beginning to catch our breath, there was a knock on the door. We exchanged curious glances before I got up to answer it. To my surprise, when I swung open the door, there stood Sergeant Hank Voight, the head of Intelligence.
"Detective Halstead, YN," Voight greeted us with a nod. "May I come in?"
I stepped aside, allowing him entry, and YN quickly straightened herself, ready to face our superior. "Of course, Sergeant Voight. Please, have a seat."
Voight took a moment to observe our humble abode before settling into one of the chairs. "I wanted to personally thank you, YN," he said, his voice carrying a mix of respect and appreciation.
YN's eyes widened in surprise. "Thank me, Sergeant? But it was a team effort. We couldn't have done it without everyone's contribution."
Voight nodded, acknowledging her words. "That may be true, but your skills as a private investigator were instrumental in cracking this case wide open. You brought a fresh perspective and an invaluable set of tools to the table. Your dedication and unwavering support for Jay and the team did not go unnoticed."
YN's cheeks flushed with a mixture of pride and humility. "Thank you, Sergeant. I'm honored to have been able to assist."
Voight turned his attention to me. "Jay, it's clear that having YN by your side has had a positive impact on your work. You complement each other's strengths and make a formidable team. I expect great things from both of you."
I felt a surge of gratitude towards Voight for recognizing YN's contribution. "Thank you, Sergeant. YN has been an incredible asset, not just in this case, but in every aspect of my life. I couldn't have asked for a better partner."
Voight nodded, his expression softening. "Remember, the job we do can be tough, but having someone you trust and rely on can make all the difference. Take care of each other, because trust me, those bonds are hard to come by."
As Voight rose to leave, YN and I exchanged a knowing glance. We understood the weight of his words and the value of the connection we shared. Our friendship had evolved into something deeper, a partnership built on trust, understanding, and unwavering support.
"Thank you again, Sergeant," YN said, her voice filled with sincerity.
Voight offered a small smile before heading towards the door. "Keep up the good work, both of you. We've got a city to protect."
With that, he left, leaving YN and me with a renewed sense of purpose and determination. As we settled back onto the couch, I couldn't help but feel a profound sense of gratitude for the journey we had embarked on together.
"YN," I began, my voice filled with emotion, "I am so grateful to have you in my life. Thank you for always being there, not just as my best friend, but as my partner."
She reached out, intertwining her fingers with mine. "Jay, I feel the same way. We make an incredible team, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Together, we can face anything that comes our way."As we sat there, basking in the warmth of our shared bond, I knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, YN and I would always be there for each other, both on and off the job. Our unbreakable friendship would continue to guide us through the darkest of times, ensuring that justice would prevail.
Tumblr media
"Hey. Is that the new guy that's shadowing you?" I ask Jay and nod towards the younger hispanic gentleman that was standing by Jay's truck.
"Yeah," Jay replied.
"And you haven't introduced me yet? Wow. What a guy," I joke.
"I haven't had the time. We just caught a new case," Jay defended. "But if you want an introduction, I'll give you one. Torres! Get over here!"
"What's up, Halstead?" Dante questioned.
"I don't think the two of you have met. Dante, this is my girlfriend, Detective Y/n L/n. Y/n, this is Officer Dante Torres," Jay introduced.
"It's nice to meet you," I say and shake his hand.
"Yeah. You too," Dante returned.
...................................................
"What the hell, Torres?" Jay seethed. "I told you to stick to the plan!"
"I know, but we caught the guy, so I don't see what the problem is," Dante claimed.
"The problem is that you got Y/n hurt! So I'm gonna ask you again. Why did you blow off the plan?" Jay quizzed.
"Jay, stop," I instruct and place a calming hand on my boyfriend's arm. "He apologized to me, and I'm okay. It's just a graze. It doesn't even need stitches."
"That's not the point," Jay argued.
"Jay. I'm okay," I assure him and squeeze his arm. "Go take a breather. I'll meet you by your truck."
"Okay. Fine," Jay breathed out and walked off.
"Sorry about him," I apologize and give Dante a small smile. "He can be quite protective over me sometimes."
"I noticed," Dante said. "You two been together long?"
"Uh, just over a year and a half," I answer. "But we've been working together much longer."
"I can tell. The way the Intelligence Unit works together, it's easy to tell that you guys are family. I hope I end up with a unit like that one day," Dante confessed. "And I really am sorry."
I waved him off. "It's fine. Seriously. Jay has bandages in his truck, and this should heal within the next week. For this being your first official case on the job, you did pretty good. Welcome to the force, Torres."
I'm Comin' Over
Jay Halstead x Reader Word Count: 853 Warnings: None Authors Note: This is the first of a One Chicago mini-series based on the "Im Comin' Over" album
 Jay was in the car before he even picked up the phone. He knew he shouldn’t, that after your last goodbye that should have been it. But no matter how many times he told himself not to, he would still drop everything for you. Neither of you could fully let go. He thought “to hell with closure” as he ran every red light he hit. Closure could wait, you needed him, and he needed you.
——————
You called him after a hard day working at Med with the patients of a massive incident that Intelligence had been called in on. Every time Maggie called out that a patient was coming in you were scared Jay would be the one on the stretcher. Will was the only one who knew that you and Jay had been together, and he knew by the look on your face what you were thinking.
“He’s okay y/n. I just got off the phone with him, and he told me they were safe.” He gave you a nod before walking away to go check on more patients.
For the next god knows how many hours you and the rest of the ED helped patch people. Will kept you updated when he heard from Jay. You didn't know but he was also keeping Jay updated on you as well. You loved your job but on days like this one when there are more patients than you can count you get overwhelmed and never talk to anyone, knowing others have it worse. Jay was the only person who could get you to open up.
——————
When your name flashed on his screen he knew you needed him. This wasn't the first time one of you had called the other, but this was the first time it was for something neither of you could avoid.
“Hey y/n” His voice was soft.
“Hi, Jay. Do you uh..do you think you can talk to me? I need to talk to someone.” The sound of your voice reminds Jay of the night he would hold you as you let it all out. The times you would fall asleep and dream of what your future with him would look like before it was over.
“Always.” You broke down when he said that. “Today was rough, I uh…every time someone came in I was scared that it was you. That something happened and you were injured. But please Jay, I know moving on was getting closer, but I need you.” Your voice shook, trying not to cry.
“To hell with closure. You need me y/n. We can save it for another time.” You were his world, even if you weren’t his anymore.No matter what he would be there for you.
——————
When he knocked on your door you jumped. You had gotten off the phone with him when he was around the corner from your apartment. In the few minutes since the call ended, you had zoned out, replaying the day in your head on repeat. The fear you felt every time a new person was rushed in that it would be Jay.
Opening your door you instantly fall into his arms. The mask you had been wearing all day was no longer on. He guided the two of you into the house, locking the door behind you before making his way to your couch. Sitting down next to you he wraps his arms around you pulling you into him. Neither of you talks, the only sound in the room is the soft sob you let out into his chest. Tears marking their presence on his shirt. Pulling you closer, he places a kiss on the top of your head. After a while you look up at him, breaking the silence. “I'm sorry for making you come all the way over here.” He shifts, causing you to sit up. He turns so you are sitting facing each other.
“You never have to apologize for calling me or needing me. You are the most important thing to me. I will always be there for you. Night or Day. No matter how many times we say it's over I will always say fuck the closure. We keep coming back to each other, the fear you had of me being rushed into the ED is the same fear I get every time a victim matches your description. I don’t want to pretend that I don't care about you and that I'm happy without you.” He lifts your chin so you are looking at him. “You are my everything y/n. If you’re willing, we can try this again. This time we can do it right.” Leaning forward, your lips meeting his. His hand moved to cup your cheek.
When you pull away you smile at him. “I love you, Jay Halstead. And I want nothing more than for you to be mine again. This time through thick and thin. I don't want to lose you again.”
“You never lost me y/n. I promise to love you till the end.” He says pulling you in for another kiss.
Jealousy
Fandom: Chicago Fire / Chicago PD
Series: One Shot
Pairing/s: Jay Halstead x Reader, Kelly Severide x Reader
Warning/s: none
Word Count: 629
Request: request : dating jay halstead but severide is your ex and jay gets jealous
Tumblr media
Some people think it's weird to be friends with your ex, but you disagreed. Some exes, such, but people like Kelly Severide? Nah, you didn't see it.
You and Kelly had dated years ago and separated amicably, and you'd been good friends ever since. He talked to you about Stella, you talked to him about Jay, to you it was normal. It sometimes bothered Jay though, when you and Kelly would have in jokes or conversations about your history and past, not that he'd tell you that.
It's not like you could forget everything about each other when you split, and Jat knew it was irrational, he trusted you, so he tried not to let it show, but it did bug him.
Like in Molly's after a very long shift, you were both sat with Kelly and Cruz as Cruz discussed the tattoo he was thinking of getting in memory of Otis, his friend, and his son.
"I think it's a great idea," you told him with a sincere smile, putting your hand on the arm he had resting on the table as Jay nodded his agreement.
"You have something similar, for your old college friend that passed," Kelly mentioned casually, gesturing with his beer to where you were sat. You nodded and the conversation carried on, with Cruz asking how you settled on the image, but Jay wasn't really paying attention.
It was so little, it shouldn't have bothered him, but he'd had a long day, so he excused himself from the booth at Molly's about getting an early one before next shift and headed out.
Kelly and Cruz didn't give it a second thought after they bid goodnight, but you couldn't help watch Jay as he left, a troubled look on your face before you excused yourself too and went after him.
"Jay!" You called after him when you exited the bar, noticing him from behind instantly. He stopped in his tracks, not turning but letting you catch up with him.
"Hey, what's up?" You asked, a hand on his forearm as you walked around him so that you were face to face.
"Nothing," he tried unconvincingly, knowing you weren't buying it either.
You tilted your head at him, a look on your face that told him as much without uttering a word. You faced off for a few seconds before he relented and sighed, eyes moving from yours.
"I just..." he tried to find the right words to explain without coming off douchey, "sometimes it just gets to me a little, seeing you and Kelly together," he admitted.
You laughed at the absurdity but he winced, looking a little hurt. Shaking your head you stopped.
"Baby, there's nothing between me and Kelly anymore," you told him, "we realised we were better off as friends, and we have been ever since, there's nothing for you to be jealous of."
"I know, I know, I do," Jay insisted, "it's just, I didn't know that, what he said about your tattoo, and I guess it just stung a little that he did."
You nodded but didn't say anything, so he continued. "I'm not trying to be one of those guys who tells you who you should be friends with and gets super jealous..." He explained, feeling like an idiot for even bringing it up, it's why he never had before.
"You can't control your feelings Jay, and I'd rather you tell me than let it fester," you said, putting a hand to his cheek, "but there really is nothing to worry about."
"I know," he told you genuinely, leaning in to rest his forehead against yours.
"I love you," you told him forcefully, making sure he knew it.
"I know," he chuckled, kissing you softly, "I love you too."
Chicago PD: Jay/Reader
I was always told to never drive angry. I was told to take a deep breath, and then drive. And maybe if I did, I wouldn’t have had to skid and swerve and hit the curb with enough force to know that my car would need to go to a shop. The moon had taken its place in the night sky, and thankfully I had stopped on a street that was lit with enough lamps to feel slightly comfortable waiting for a tow. Slightly.
Taking a needed breath to calm myself, I went through my contacts. It was a night off, one that didn’t come around too often. And one that needed to be taken advantage of. That also meant that there was a chance that Kim wouldn’t answer her phone. After a few rings, it went to voicemail. Knowing that Adam and Kevin’s would do the same, I still attempted to call only to end up with the voicemail messages.
Finally, I called Jay.
The phone was answered after one ring.
“Aren’t you meant to be on a date?” He asked chuckling. Behind his voice, there were people singing karaoke.
“Supposed to be.” I sighed. “Look, I know it’s our night off, but I need help.”
“Are you okay?” There was an edge to his voice that told me the humour he answered with was gone.
“I’m fine. I hit a curb, and something’s wrong with my car. I called a tow and I don’t want to wait alone.” I took another deep breath.
“Okay,” Jay said after a beat. “Send me your location, I need to pay my tab. Do you want me to stay on the line?”
“Sending it now, and no, I’ll see you when you get here.”
Thankfully I hadn’t stopped too far from Jay’s location, probably Molly’s, as his car pulled in behind mine ten minutes after we hung up. I opened the car door and stepped out.
“What happened?” Jay asked as he met me at my car.
“To the car or the date?”
“Both!” Jay knelt down and began looking at my car to see what kind of damage I had done. As he did, I noticed him looking up from the car at my outfit from the date.
“Well, I think I damaged the axel. Something ran out, I think it was a cat or something and I swerved and hit the curb.” I kicked the tire lightly as I explained. “As for the date, we sat down, and then he got a phone call. Turns out that another girl he was interested in was free and he left.”
“Wait, he stood you up after you guys got to the restaurant?”
“Exactly! Thankfully we didn’t order anything, because I’m sure I would’ve had to pay his bill too.” I pinched my nose. “I basically got angry and left after him and I wasn’t thinking straight.”
“Makes sense. The guy’s an idiot by the way.” Jay offered with a smile. I smiled back and shivered as a gust of wind blew towards us. “Do you want to sit in the truck?”
“Yeah,” I nodded and followed after Jay towards his truck. He opened the passenger side door and gestured for me to get in. Once he got in, he started the car and the heating came on warming us.
“Thank you.” I said after sitting in silence for a few minutes. “I appreciate this.”
“Of course. I saw you calling Kim and Kevin and figured I’d be next.” Jay shrugged his shoulders and I looked at him. “They were singing at Molly’s when you tried to call.”
“Oh.” I nodded. “I thought that was a dying whale and you were watching a nature documentary.” I joked causing Jay to laugh. “But seriously, thanks.”
“You’d do the same if it were me.”
Before I could reply, the tow truck arrived. I began opening the door and as I did, Jay raised a hand to stop me as he got out and made his way to the tow truck driver. I watched as he spoke with the driver as the car was hooked up and he took the information as to where the car was going to be taken.
“I know a guy, and he’ll probably be able to get the car running back to normal by tomorrow night.” Jay told me getting back in. He handed me a business card of the garage he sent the car to. “I’ll take you there tomorrow.”
“Oh, thanks.” I took the card and put it into my bag. “I can just call a cab and I’ll let you get back to Molly’s.”
“Are you kidding?” Jay looked at the clock. “It’s like seven, if you want, we can get something to eat. You said it yourself that you didn’t eat. Besides, you’re already dressed for a date.”
“Is this your way of saying you want to take me on a date?” I teased. Jay rolled his eyes.
“How about we just get something to eat?” Jay asked before starting the car.
Eye to Eye
The reader and Jay don’t always see eye to eye, Jay uses the necessary force to get the answers whereas you work hard to patch people up, with gentleness. But when a patient comes in and starts foaming, everyone is suddenly working hard to save you and him. Characters – Jay x Doctor!Reader. Word Count – 1.5k.
What are you doing here?’ You asked, Jay stood at the end of the bed. ‘I-‘ ‘I can’t talk just now, I’m training four interns who don’t know their elbows from their knees.’ You said, checking over the patient, Jay glanced at the young doctors who looked offended. ‘I just wanted to let you know it’s gonna be a late night for me.’ Jay said, you sighed and looked at him. ‘Okay.’ ‘Do you want me to leave any dinner for you?’ You asked him, the interns heads whipped between the pair of them. ‘No, I’ll grab something on the way back.’ He told you, you glanced at him before nodding. ‘Just be careful.’ You warned him, he nodded. ‘It’s only a drug bust, at the Red Cell.’ He told you, you pursed your lips before nodding. ‘But I know be careful.’ He said, almost rolling his eyes before pressing a quick kiss to the side of your head.
‘Shit.’ You said, watching as the white foam slowly rolled out his mouth. Quickly dropped the items in your hand you turned to your interns and waved them out the room, they looked confused but listened to your silent commands. When they were out the door you slid the door shut and locked it from the outside, turning back you slammed your gloved hand on the red button, listening to blaring alarms that went off everywhere. ‘Y/N.’ Maggie asked, you turned to her as you looked through the glass. ‘He’s poisoned.’ You told her, your voice muffled by the doors. ‘What?’ She asked, the device she was holding fell to her side. Connor, Choi and Natalia. ‘He’s poisoned, toxic if you want.’ You said, looking over the doctors. ‘Get out then.’ Connor said, you held up your right hand and showed them the cut that was visible now you had taken your glove off. ‘He grabbed me earlier, sliced through my glove but I-‘ You trialed off. ‘It’s okay, we’ll need you to do some tests so we can figure out.’ Maggie told you, Natalia showing up at your side along with Will, looking through the glass. ‘What symptoms does he have?’ Will asked, you looked at the pair, worry was etched on their faces that they were trying to hide. ‘Foaming at the mouth, nothing else.’ You informed them. ‘What did he come in with?’ Maggie asked, she watched as you removed your gloves and chucked them in the bin. ‘He had been vomiting for most of last night,’ One of the interns spoke up, Maggie turned to them as you looked through the glass door. ‘Anything else to get like this?’ You asked them, testing their knowledge. ‘High temperature, rapid heart beat and quickened breathing.’ One of the interns from the back stated, you made eye contact with them and nodded. ‘That’s an overdoes on cocaine.’ Another added. ‘Anything else?’ Natalia asked, Will standing next to her as well. ‘Small pupils that were lacking reaction, which is an opioid reaction.’ Another added, you rubbed your lips together as you slowly pulled on a new pair of gloves. ‘The drugs must have been laced with something.’ Will suggested then the heart monitor started beating frantically, your head whipped around and your crossed the room as your quickly slipped a guard into his mouth as he clenched hard, his body shaking. You held his cheeks, waiting for his body to calm down as you looked at the clock about the bed, watching as the seconds ticked along before shaking his head. ‘I’m giving him narcan.’ You stated. ‘What if it reacts?’ Someone asked, you hesitated. ‘He’s going to cause more harm to himself like this.’ You said, pulling the amount needed before pulling his shaking arm out, placing yourself between him and his arm. You managed to slid the needle in, before injecting the clear liquid waiting for him to calm down. ‘You need the antidote Y/N.’ Maggie said, you looked between them. ‘We don’t know what it is?’ You pointed out, gesturing to the barely conscious man. ‘Rabies?’ Natalia suggested. ‘Can’t you only get that from animals?’ One of the interns asked, you looked down at your scratched hand, wriggling your fingers before turning back to the patient. You turned away, pulling the scissors out before cutting his clothes off, looking for any marks. After searching his upper half you cut his trousers, up to his crotch were you saw the small pinpoint mark. ‘Will?’ You called for your friend, knowing he was there. ‘Yeah?’ He replied, still searching for anything. ‘Can you phone Jay, or anyone over there.’ You said, chucking the scissors between your patients legs. ‘Why?’ He asked. ‘He said he was doing a drug bust-‘ You started. ‘Y/N?’ Will questioned, you focused on the clothes. ‘It’s the same group, I think it might be a trap or something isn’t right if he’s poisoned.’ You told him, gesturing to the man in front of you. You turned to look at him, he looked at you before nodding. ‘I’ve got a bite mark.’ You announced, you could see their shoulders relaxing. ‘Rabies.’ Everyone said, you nodded. ‘Rabies.’ You agreed with them. ‘If he’s showing symptoms then he doesn’t have long.’ Choi pointed out, you nodded. ‘We can-‘ ‘What the hell are you doing?’ The voice called out, you closed your eyes before you turned and looked at him. ‘Working.’ You replied, looking away from Jay and focusing on the unconscious man again. ‘He’s infected.’ Jay said, holding your hand up as Will stepped closer to him. ‘Jay, he has rabies and doesn’t have all day.’ You told him, then you looked to his brother. ‘We can try the Milwaukee Protocol.’ Will suggested, you arched an eyebrow before nodding. ‘Guys what is the Milwaukee Protocol?’ You asked you interns. ‘Placing the patient into an endured coma in order to stop the disease from furthering.’ They mumbled out together, you nodded. ‘Good.’ You said, looking at the man that was literally knocking on deaths door and you hoped death was away collecting someone else. ‘It’s marked red and only one person that survived it.’ One of the interns pointed out, you nodded. ‘Do you want him to die?’ Someone asked, they started bickering but quietened down when you turned to them, placing your hands on your hips, eyes narrowed. ‘We could always do the Recife Protocol.’ Someone suggested, you looked back at the patient before nodding. ‘It’s up for vote we can give them biopretin or sapropterin.’ You stated, turning to look at the group of interns who were watching her with wide eyes. ‘What’s more likely to work?’ You asked them, they continued to look at you you allowed your eyes to swipe over to Will. ‘At this stage, we’d be lucky if anything happened.’ Will pointed out, your lips twitched his heart rate dropping again.
‘You done giving me a heart attack?’ Jay asked, you looked over your shoulder to see him leaning against the doorway, arms crossed over his chest. ‘You shouldn’t joke about serious conditions.’ You warned him, tying your shoe laces. ‘I’m not joking.’ He stated, walking into the changing room. ‘Will said you were dying.’ He practically whispered. ‘Will is over dramatic.’ You commented as you stood up, turning you lifted your bag up, chucking it over your shoulder before he stepped forward. ‘Please move, I want to go home, have dinner and then fall into bed.’ You told him, he uncrossed his arms, reaching up to cup your face, his thumbs brushing your cheeks. ‘Promise me you wont do that again.’ ‘I can’t.’ You said. ‘Y/N.’ He sighed, you titled your head to the side. ‘Jay, my patients become before me, you know that and it won’t change just because the man I’m dating is scared.’ You warned him, he inhaled before slowly exhaling. ‘Scared?’ He asked, before scoffing. ‘I was petrified that my girlfriend, the love of my life had been dosed with something, I didn’t know if you were dying or if Will was over reacting again like he did when your broke your arm.’ Jay said, you gave him a tight smile. ‘I can’t promise you, but I can try my best.’ You told him, your hands coming up to rest on his waist. ‘I think I can deal with that.’ He admitted, you nodded. ‘I’m the love of your life?’ You asked playfully, he rolled his eyes. ‘Don’t play the cute card.’ He warned, leaning over and pressing a kiss to your forehead. ‘Oh, we almost had four interns almost pass out this morning.’ You told him. ‘What did you do to them?’ He asked, you pulled away from him. ‘Nothing. It was you that did it.’ You bumped your nose with his. ‘They were shocked that we were dating.’ You explained, he pulled away slightly to look you in the eyes. ‘They didn’t know?’ He asked shocked, you shook your head. ‘No because I don’t go around announcing that we are dating.’ You told him, his face twisted. ‘Neither do I?’ He said, you pulled back to look at him and raise an eyebrow. ‘Not all of the time.’ He corrected himself, you laughed before his hand slid down and captured yours before he started leading you out the changing room.
“Alright listen up everyone!” Hank Voight said coming out of his office and looking at his team that was scattered around the bullpen talking lowly with each other as they worked on paperwork.
“We have a major problem. The Sanfino Crime family has hit Chicago and hit us hard.”
“Sanfino?” Libby Reagan asked pushing her chair away from her desk.
Hank nodded his head and looked at her.
“I know them. Michael was involved with them, he all but sold me to Noble.”
 “He did what?” Adam Ruzek asked looking at his friend who nodded her head, “he needed a date, and who better else than the wife of his friend and the daughter of the police commissioner? They thought if they had me under their control then it would be easier not to get in trouble.”
Her husband Jay Halstead shook his head angrily, he had heard all about this when they first got together and it upset him.
Her dead husband had taken advantage of her and even though she was a cop she was powerless to do anything.
“But did it stop?” Alvin asked curiously, she only ever told stories about cases that her brothers or grandfather worked but none of hers.  It was like she wanted to hide it and hide everything that happened with Michael.
“No. Most of them got locked up and the two grandkids fled New York.” She answered as she stood up and tapped her fingers against her thighs, “The one associate of Noble’s almost killed my twin.”
“What else do you know about Noble?”
 “He is a druggie, he would do anything for his next hit.”  Libby said as she pulled open the bottom drawer of her desk and pulled out a notebook and handed it to Hank, “I kept information, that I could remember. I kept the notebook, Riker, my partner kept it with his files.”
“Tell them why.”
 “I came into work on a Monday morning and someone had gone through my desk. It was Michael. After his first stint in jail, he became more paranoid, jealous, and angry. You name it he was. He didn’t like me working the night shift or working with Riker.”
“How many stents did he do?”
“3. The third one is when he got killed.” Libby answered leaning against Jay’s desk, his fingers catching hers and squeezing them.
 “I was at my dad’s house for Sunday dinner and I get this call from the warden telling me that Michael was stabbed and I needed to get down to the hospital. The perks of having the police commissioner as a father we got there at the same time he did. They pronounced him dead after they wheeled him by me.” Libby said using her thumb to move her engagement ring back and forth.
“My family was expecting me to lose control and start crying but I didn’t, I think I was more relieved than anything after everything that he did to me and put me through it was finally over.”
“Did you lose control?” Adam asked.
“Yeah, I finally did after the funeral when my bitch mother-in-law tried to tell me because I started divorce proceedings before Michael was killed that I wasn’t entitled to the life insurance or anything. I flipped.”
“Antonio you remember when Danny was here and he pushed the table into Peter?” Jay asked as he leaned back in his chair. He had been there when that happened and was right there with Danny pulling her away from Marion.  Though they were all just tempted to let the fight go on. Let Libby get out of her system.
“Yeah.” He remembered it all too clearly, he would have done the same thing that the oldest Reagan had done when he found out that Libby had walked into a trap and was almost killed.
“She did that from what Will told me.”
“I threw a drink in her face too. Lucky for her that my brothers were there and pulled me away. I would have started throwing punches.” Libby said.
Carlie Rhodes looked up at Mrs. Halstead and laughed, “And she has a mean left hook.”
“Yes, yes I do.” the former New York Detective said folding her arms under her chest, “So what do you want us to do Sarge?”
Hank looked thoughtful before putting his hands on his hips, “Do you still have contacts within the family?”
 Libby nodded her head slowly, “Yeah Bianca, Noble’s sister texts me all the time, she just moved from New Hampshire.”
“Good, reach out to her. Ruzek, Atwater, I want you two with her.” Hank ordered. “Got it, boss,” Adam answered as Libby went over to her desk and pulled her iPhone out of her desk, and turned it on.
This was her old phone and number that she only used from time to time.
It was a reminder of her former life, the life where she was Mrs. O’Malley, the wife of a prominent lawyer who gave her everything and lived a life that on the outside looked happy. But on the inside, it wasn’t.
 Michael was controlling, abusive and angry, and Libby who was taught how to defend herself and trust cops her entire life became sad withdrawn, and not even trusting her family who was cops.
 She was scared that if she got back into this lifestyle she was going to go back to that. She couldn’t do that not now that she had Jay.
She couldn’t. She wouldn’t.
**
Seeing that Libby was engrossed in her mission of texting Bianca, Jay went over to where Adam and Kevin were at
. “Keep an eye on her.” He said, keeping his voice low so only the two men going undercover with her could hear.
“Course man.” Kevin said glancing over at Libby and then back at Jay, “Was it really that bad?”
“Worse. Ask Carlie or Will they will tell you. Being with Michael wasn’t good for her. She drank heavily, lost a ton of weight, and almost got kicked off of the force.” Jay answered, “I am worried that she will lose control if she gets into deep.”
“We won’t let that happen.” Adam said, “We got her back.”  The former Army Ranger nodded his head before going over to his wife and leaning against her desk.
“You okay?” “I will be okay. Kev and Ruze won’t let anything happen to me. I have too much to lose this time around.” She said softly offering him a smile.
  He returned the smile before looking at the screen of the phone that lit up. “Looks like you are to meet Bianca soon.”  “Then we should get ready. It will take me a while to go into Mrs. O’Malley again.”
In between pt 2
Type: One shot about Jay Halstead + Will Halstead (Chicago) Rating: Rated R | Very heavy in BDSM | Minors don’t interact Word Count: 4500+ Trigger: BDSM, Sexual  Enjoy!
As the Uber pulled up to her apartment, she opened the door to get out. Her phone started to ring as she left the car. She walked into her apartment before answering the call. Of course, it was Jay, as he wanted to know where she went too. He didn't dismiss her so he was confused as to where she disappeared to. Once she answered she didn't get a chance to say anything.
"Where are you?" Jay asked. "I left," she said. "Why?" He asked. "I thought we were done for the evening or morning," she said. "Did I say we were?" he asked. "No, but I decided to end it," she said. "Did something happen? Are you ok?" he asked, concerned. "Everything is fine, I just wanted to get home," she said. "Are you sure?" he questioned. "Yes I'm sure, see you soon," she said as she hung up the phone.
She slipped off her shoes and placed her bag on the couch. She was about to head upstairs when she could hear Jess in the kitchen. She was hoping that Jess didn't hear her because she didn't want to explain. Nor did she want to lead Jess to think something was wrong. As she was sure that her face had worry written all over it.
"So spill," Jess said as she walked out of the kitchen. "Just a fairytale ball dance," Angel nodded. "Fairytale?" Jess asked. "It was a business meeting ball thing," She said. "Oh ok, well who did you go with?" Jess asked. "That's classified info and I can't tell you" Angel shrugged. "Uh huh," Jess rolled her eyes playfully. "Maybe one day I'll tell you," Angel said as she started to make her way upstairs. "Was it Will?" Jess asked. "If you have to ask then you already know your answer," she said as she disappeared into her room.
She made her way up the stairs to her room. Laying on the bed just staring at the ceiling, not knowing what to do with this information. Luckily they didn't know that they both were talking to her. There were so many questions that she wanted to know but didn't know how to get the answers to. Did WIll know what Jay does? Will Will mention her to Jay? What would Jay do if he found out she was talking to someone else, let alone his brother? She finally drifted off asleep but her dreams were filled with both brothers.
-Angels dream-
She was sitting on the bed as both Jay and Will walked toward her. Jay grabbed her by the chin demanding her attention. She looked up at him as Will started kissing her cheek, moving down to her neck. Sucking and gently nibbling at her ear, she leaned her head back allowing him more access to her.
"Are you a good girl," Jay asked as he brushed his thumb against her lip. "Yes sir" she nodded as she held back her moans. "Then why won't you allow him to hear you moan?" Jay asked. "Sorry," she said as she started to moan.
Jay grabbed her neck, gently squeezing it as he pulled her up. He held her close to him, leaning in and kissing her softly. She parted her lips allowing his tongue to slip in. Allowing him to be dominant in her mouth as Will started moving down her body. He hooked his fingers in her panty strings, pulling them off her hips. Will moved her legs apart so he was in between them. Jay kept her chin in his hands making her focus on him. Will parted her lips with his tongue, swirling it around her clit making her knees weak. Will wrapped his lips around her clit, driving her crazy. She held onto Jay to steady herself, still looking at Jay. He moved his fingers down her slit, sliding them in and curling them just right. She arched her back as she moaned, feeling herself edge closer to the edge. Jay held her sturdy as Will brought her to a climax, her knees buckled as she came against Will's face. Jay picked her up and laid her on the bed. She watched them both as they started to get undressed. Jay moved over top of her, leaning down and kissing her softly. Jay pulled her onto the edge of the bed and he nudged her legs further apart as he moved between them. Rubbing himself against her before pushing his hips towards hers, sliding fully into her.
"Fuck" she moaned as she didn't expect it. "I want to hear you lose it," Jay said as he thrust into her. "I want to feel your moans" Will said as he was on his knees in front of her.
She turned her head as she took Will into her mouth. Sucking on him as Jay drilled into her. She arched into him, moving her hips towards Jay's as they moved as one. He grabbed her ass, pulling her closer to him and allowing her to wrap her legs around him. His thrust started to pick up and go deeper, hitting her spot. She edged closer to her climax as he continued to thrust into her. He moved his hand between her legs, rubbing her nub as he thrust. Her legs were shaking as Jay continued to thrust into her, bringing her to another climax. She could feel Will starting to edge closer as well as Jay. She continued to suck on Will until he pulled away. Rubbing himself to climax against her chest as Jay did the same.
"Wow," she said as she tried to catch her breath. "Yea wow is right," Jay said as he lay beside her. "You are amazing Angel," Will said as he leaned down kissing her softly. "Think I need a few moments before I get up," She admitted. "It's ok, just rest princess," Jay said as he pulled her to his chest. "Thank you," She said as she rested her head against his chest.
Angel knew she could get used to this. Being spoiled by both, having both, and maybe even falling for both. She tried to stay in the dream but someone was trying to wake her up. She could feel Jess trying to wake her up.
-End of dream-
"Angel?" Someone said, "Wake up!" Jess said. "Do I need to call 911?" she started to panic. "Uh?" She said as she opened her eyes. "Thank god, you have been out for HOURS," Jess said. "Sorry, guess I was tired," She said as she sat up. "Normally you are awake by now, it's nearly 6 pm," Jess said. "6 pm?" Angel asked. "Yea, you've been out for hours," Jess said. "I'm fine, thanks for worrying," She said as she rushed into the bathroom.
She quickly turned on the shower and got in it. She just took a quick shower and got ready for work. She headed downstairs and grabbed a protein bar before heading out. She was greeted by police officers at her door.
"Excuse me, may I help you?" She asked. "We are here to do a welfare check," the officer said. "On who?" Angel asked. "Someone who goes by Angel," the officer said, "That's me, I'm fine," She nodded. "Guess I was super tired and just passed out, guess people were worried," she said. "Ok," the officer nodded. "Can I see your id?" he asked. "Sure," she said as she grabbed it out of her purse, showing the officer. "Thank you, I'm sure it was a misunderstanding," he nodded. "Can I ask who called?" She asked. "It came from inside so I really couldn't tell you," he said. "In-house like from the station?" she asked. "Yes, sorry for bothering you," he said. "Glad you are ok," he said before walking away. "Thank you," she said.
She made her way to her car and pulled out her phone. There were plenty of missed calls from both Jay and Will. If only they knew about the dream she just had. She smiled to herself as she thought about the dream. She shook her head and quickly texted both that she was ok. She put her phone away and drove to work. When she pulled into the parking lot she saw Will standing at the bar's door. Once he noticed her car he walked over to where she parked.
"Hey," he said. "I texted you saying I was ok," she said as she got out of the car. "I know but you aren't working tonight," he said. "I'm on the shift board so yea I am" she nodded. "I talked to your boss, and he agreed to give you the night off," he said. "Why would you do that?" she asked. "Because I wanted to do something special for our second date," he said. "We could have had dinner and a movie," she said. "I'm not a simple guy like that, trust me?" He looked at her. "I guess I will but I will keep my guard up," she said. "That's fair enough," he nodded. "Are you sure I'm cleared because I can not lose this job?" She said. "Yes you are clear," he smiled. "Ok, take me away," she said as she grabbed his hand.
He led her to his car, opening the door for her. Allowing her to get into the passenger side, closing the door behind her. He made his way over to the driver's side, getting into the car as well. He pulled off from the parking lot and started heading towards the park. He had fairy lights and a picnic already set up waiting for their arrival. He got out of the car and made his way to her side of the car. Opening the door and offering his hand for her to get out of the car. She grabbed his hand and got out of the car. He led her down the solar light path to where he set up the picnic.
"It's beautiful," she said as she looked around. "Just wanted to do something not simple" he smiled as he sat down. "Yea I notice that" she nodded as she sat next to him. "I have Chinese takeout in this basket" he laughed slightly. "Didn't have time to cook," he admitted. "It's ok doc" she smiled as she opened the basket. "I get it," she said.
They started to eat and talk, and once again it was easy for Angel to talk to WIll. Just like the first night they met, it was easy with them. They finished eating and Will cleaned up. She leaned back against the blanket, looking up at the stars in the sky. He sat back down on the blanket, laying back as well.
"It's so peaceful out here," she said. "Wish I had more time to do it," she looked at Will. 'Same" he looked at her.
He moved slightly so he could lean in against her. Placing his lips against hers softly, waiting for her response. She smiled against his lips before kissing him softly, placing her hand against his cheek. She kept the kiss as she moved closer to him, he placed his hand against her hip. He pulled away softly, resting his forehead against hers.
"It's easy with you," he said as he tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear. "Like we were meant to be," she said. "Well be right here right now," she said. "Yea" he nodded. "In this moment" he leaned in kissing her softly.
She kissed him back softly as her dream started rushing back to her. Feeling his hand against her hips, his lips against hers made her mind rush with the possibilities. Her mind wasn't the only thing that was getting turned on. She quickly pulled away from him and sat up. Trying to steady her mind as well as her body, her body was begging for his touch.
"Are you ok?" he asked as he sat up, placing his hand against her back. "Yea everything is fine" she nodded as she looked away. "Angel?" he grabbed her chin, turning her face so she was looking at him. "Everything is ok" she looked at him. "Are you sure?" he asked. "Yea" she nodded as he let her go. "Was it something I did?" he asked. "It's not you WIll, I promise" she looked at him. "Truly tonight was special," she said. "Ok" he placed his hand against her cheek, brushing his thumb against her skin. "I would love to do it again" She leaned against his hand. "I like you, Will," she admitted. "I like you," he said as he leaned in, kissing her softly.
She smiled against his lips before kissing him back. She moved closer to him but he pulled her onto his lap. He deepened the kiss, placing his hand against her hips. She rested her hand against his chest as she kept the kiss. She parted her lips allowing his tongue to slip in. She moved slightly as she could feel him starting to get hard under her. He placed his hand against her neck as he kept the kiss. His phone started going off that's when he pulled away from her. She moved from his lap and lay on the blanket, as he took the call.
"I'll be right there," he said. "Who is it?" She asked. "My brother just got shot," he said as he started cleaning up. "Oh god, I'm sorry," she said as she helped him.
They rushed back to the car and went straight to the hospital. She stayed outside of the hospital, she wanted to check in on Jay but they couldn't know that she knew both of them.
"Aren't you coming in?" Will asked. "I'll be in shortly, you go," she said. "Alright," he nodded as he rushed in. "I'm fine, I'm fine every stop hovering over me," Jay said. "You just got shot, calm down Jay," Will said. "I didn't get shot, the bullet grazed me, I'm fine," Jay said. "Let a doctor check it out first before you leave," Will said. "You look fancy, where have you been?" Jay asked. "Date night with this girl," Will said. "Sorry didn't mean to interrupt," Jay said. "Where is she?" he asked. "She's outside, should be in shortly," Will said. "I would love to meet her," Jay said. "If you are serious about her that is," he said. "I think I am" WIll smile. "Uh oh someone making Will blush and smile. I NEED to meet her" Jay said. "Oh hush and just get looked at," Will said as he went into the doctor's lounge.
Angel decided to go inside to check on Jay, hoping Will would be busy doing something else. She sneaked into the hospital and went to where Jay was at. Closing the curtain behind her as she looked at him.
"Angel?" Jay asked. "What are you doing here?" he asked. "I was hearing things and wanted to check on you," she said. "I'm fine," he said as he pulled her closer to him. "I'm glad you're ok" she placed her hand against his chest. "Thank you for checking on me, maybe you can be my nurse later" he smirked. "Maybe" she smiled. "Good," he nodded. "Can't wait to get out of here," he said. "I know you can't wait but let the doctors do their job," she said. "I will" he looked at her. "I want you to take an uber to this place and pick up my car," he said. "Where you got shot at?" she asked. "Yes where I was shot at, can you do that princess?" He placed his hand against her cheek. "Yes I can," she nodded. "I'm glad you are ok," she said. "Are you ok?" he asked. "Just worried " she looked at him. "Can't have my dom dying on me" she smiled. "I'm not going anywhere, now go," He said. "Keys" she demanded. "Oh right," he nodded and gave her his keys. "See you soon" She leaned in and kissed him softly. "Of course," he said as he spanked her ass as she walked away.
She left the hospital without Will catching her. She took an uber to the place Jay was at, it was a bad neighborhood. She quickly found his car and left the neighborhood. She made her way to his place, parking the car in the driveway. She waited in the car which seemed like forever, just waiting for him to return home. Will was the one who drove Jay home, she ducked into the backseat so Will wouldn't see her.
"How did your car beat you home?" Will asked. "I had someone pick it up," Jay nodded. "Ok, well get some rest" Will said. "Thanks for the ride" Jay said as he unlocked the door of his house.
Will pulled out as Jay went inside his house. He sent Angel a few texts wondering where she was at. She made sure Will was gone before getting out of the truck. She walked up to the front door and knocked on the door. Jay answered, surprised at how quickly she got there.
"That was quick," he said. "I was in the truck," She said. "I didn't see you," Jay said as he invited her in. "I was in the back laying down," she said. "Oh long day?" he asked. "Something like that," she said. "nice truck," she said. "Thanks," he said.
He didn't waste any time removing the space between them. He gripped her hips, kissing her intensely pushing his tongue against her lips. She kissed him back with the same passion, gripping his shirt as she kept him close to her. He pushed her against the wall, gripping her neck as he kept the kiss. She pulled away slightly so she could catch her breath.
"I want you so bad right now," he said. "Take me," she said. "I'm yours" she looked at him. "Go upstairs and strip," he said. "Yes sir," she said as she walked upstairs.
She made her way upstairs and into his bedroom. She stripped for him sitting on the bed waiting for him to come upstairs. He finally made his way upstairs, smiling as he walked into the bedroom. He closed the door behind him before moving closer to her. He laid her back against the bed, moving over the top of her. He leaned down and kissed her softly before moving down her body. Biting down against her neck, making her yelp in pain. He made sure he left a mark before softly kissing over the spot. He leaned over her and grabbed a condom from the nightstand.
"Are you ok?" he asked as he looked at her. "Yea I'm fine" she nodded as she took the condom from him. "Let me help you," she said as she opened it. "Of course" he smiled as he slipped off his pants and boxers.
She wrapped her hands around him, slowly stroking him. He was already hard and ready for her, but she would expect anything less. She placed the condom in her mouth and placed it against his tip. She looked up at him as she placed the condom on him with her mouth.
"Good girl" he moaned as he placed his hand on the back of her head.
She slowly pulled away allowing his tip to be against her lips. He pulled her up pushing her against the wall and grabbing her leg. She placed it against his hip as he pushed himself into her. He kept his hand against her hips to keep her steady, he placed his lips against her neck. She wrapped her arms around him as she started to moan. He pushed his hips towards her, giving her all of himself.
"Oh yes," she moaned. "Good girl," he moaned into her ear.
He reached around and gripped her ass picking her up. She wrapped her legs around his waist as he moved them to the bed. He laid back allowing her to be on top. She moved her hips against his. He leaned up, placing his arms around her as she moved against him. He started sucking against her collarbone. Both his and her moans filled the room. He thrust his hips forward moving her back against the bed. He pinned her hand above her head as he thrust harder into her. She arched her back pushing her hips towards his.
"You don't cum until I tell you to," he said. "Ok sir" she nodded as she moaned.
He moved his hand between her legs rubbing her nub as he continued to thrust. He edged her closer to her climax, always pulling away when she was about to cum. She was left breathless and frustrated each time he pulled away.
"Please Sir," she said trying to catch her breath. "Please what?" He looked at her. "What do you need?" he asked. "I need you to allow me to cum" she said. "I'll think about it," he said as he pushed himself back into her. "Fuck" she moaned.
She wrapped her arms around him, digging her nails into his back. He started picking up the pace, thrusting fully into her. He pushed her legs further apart, angling her hips allowing him to hit a spot. She gripped the bed sheets as she could feel herself edging closer, not sure if she could go over the edge yet.
"I want to hear you" he leaned down kissing her. "Yes please," she moaned against his lips.
He kept his pace as he placed his hand between her legs again. It didn't take long before she climaxed against him. He didn't expect it to be as intense. He jerked forward and climaxed as well, slowing his thrust so they both could enjoy it fully. He pulled out and went to throw the condom away. He came back and lay beside her as she tried to catch her breath.
"Wow," she said as she looked at him. "Yea wow" he nodded. "Wasn't expecting that," he said. "Expecting what?" She asked. "You climaxed that intensely," he said. "Well you did it" she smiled. "Yea I did" he looked at her. "Can I take a shower here?" she asked. "Go ahead," he said. "Thanks," She said as she made her way to the bathroom.
She turned the water on allowing it to warm up before getting into the shower. By the time she got out of the shower, there were fresh clothes on the sink for her. She got dressed in clean clothes and made her way back to the bedroom. There was water and snacks on the bed for her.
"That's if you want to spend the night," he said as he leaned against the door frame. "I would love to," she said as she turned to face him. "I only have one bed so you take it," he said. "Come on we can share, clearly we know each other" she smiled. "True," he said. "But I normally don't with our relationship because I don't want the lines to get messy," he said. "It's ok for one night," she said. "Yea I guess it is," he nodded.
They both got into the bed, she lay on her side facing him. She knew that this relationship was just a sub and dom but she wondered what else it could be. He brushed the hair from her face, tucking it behind her ear. He leaned over and kissed her softly before kissing her forehead. He turned off the lights and they started to fall asleep. Sometime during the night, she cuddled up to him because in the morning she was laying against his chest. She woke up in the morning realizing what happened and sat up in bed.
"Sorry," she said. "It's ok," he said. "I know this is just sexual, I should go," she said. "It's ok," he said as he grabbed her arm. "You said you didn't want the lines getting messy," she said. "We are just enjoying each other," he said. "Yea" she nodded as she laid back down against him.
They stayed in bed for a few more hours just talking. She got up to go to the bathroom when her phone started going off. He reached over and grabbed it to see who it was. To his surprise it was his brother, he opened the conversation. He started going through messages, realizing that Angel was the girl Will was so happy about. He put the phone down as he got out of bed. He started getting dressed as she walked back in.
"Off to work?" she asked. "Can I ask you something?" he said. "Sure," she said. "Are you seeing anyone else?" he asked. "What do you mean?" she looked at him. "Are you seeing anyone besides me?" he said. "No," she said. "Why are you lying to me?" he started to get angry. "I'm not" she claimed. "I saw the FUCKING text messages," he said. "Why are you going through my phone?" she crossed her arms. "It was going off when you walked away," he said. "So what if I am?" she asked. "That's against our contract," he said. "Wait what?" she asked. "The contract says just us two having sex because we don't like to mix partners," he said. "I didn't know that," she said. "READ IT!" He said. "I'm sorry," she said. "I haven't been with this person yet," she said. "MY BROTHER?" he crossed his arms. "MY FUCKING BROTHER," he said.
She didn't know what to say as she looked at him. He pulled his shirt over his head and put his thigh harness on. Slipping his gun in the holder before grabbing his jacket. He walked past her, brushing against her slightly.
"I figure you can find your way home," he said. "Yea," she said. "Well get the hell out of my house," he said as he went downstairs. "Yes sir," she said as she gathered her things.
She jumped when he left slamming the door. She hurried and gathered her things and left the house. She took an uber back to her apartment, where Will was waiting for her.
"How do you know where I live?" she asked. "Where have you been? You just disappeared last night" he said. "I'm not in the mood to have this discussion with you right now," she said. "Well we are," he said as he followed her inside. "Will stop, please," she said. "And you come home with a damn hickey?" he said. "Hickey?" she asked as she remembered what Jay did to her last night. She rubbed her thumb over the spot. "What game are you playing here?" he crossed his arms. "I'm not playing any games!" she said. "YOU are stalking me and you want to claim I'm the one playing games," she said. "Excuse me?" he asked. "You know where I work and now you know where I live?" she said. "I know you're roommate," he said, "Of course you do, can you just go," she said.
He didn't respond to her, he just left slamming the door behind him. Jess came out of the kitchen but Angel wasn't in any mood to deal with her. Angel went upstairs to her room, closing the door behind her. She lay on her bed staring at the ceiling wondering what her life was becoming.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• Pairing: Jay Halstead x Fem!Reader.
• Requested by @hart-kinsella: Maybe him and mc are working undercover (but they're married in real life) and a guy tries too hard with her (takes her by the arm and invades her personal space as well as trying to flirt with her with words) and then Jay tells him that and punches him. They could be at a club like that one episode when he and Hailey (and Kevin, maybe? I don't remember exactly) were undercover - unfortunately I don't recall which season it was.
• Warnings: mention of drugs, violence.
• Word count: 1543.
• A/N: I know this is not my best work and I apologize 😭 but I managed to quickly write it so I can post something ❤️ and tell me why I stayed for half an hour staring at the wall to think about a title and I ended up with this one 😭 btw love you all and thank you always for your support
It was no secret Jay sometimes hated undercover missions. Especially if you were involved.
He couldn’t help it. He knew you were an amazing cop, one of the best he ever worked with, capable of defending yourself in any circumstances but since you were also his wife, he couldn’t help but worry about you.
And this case was no different.
You and Jay were undercover due to a drug trafficking case, him as a potential buyer interested in purchasing the drugs, you as his work partner who had set up the connection with Joshua Ryder, the criminal suspected of being the gang’s leader.
Jay was on the verge of losing his mind, not being able to stay still and acting like nothing was happening.
You were both in a club, sitting in a VIP room while you talked with Ryder and convince him to make a deal with you. The rest of the team were instead in some fake company’s vans listening to your conversations in real time.
However, things started to go wrong when Jay noticed one of the traffickers approaching you in a way he didn’t like at all.
“Are you here to do business or watch her like a hawk?” the gang leader had insisted for the umpteenth time while for the umpteenth time Jay directed his gaze towards you who continued to giggle with fake enthusiasm with one of Ryder’s henchmen.
You were uncomfortable, as with any mission that involved getting close to another man other than your husband. You knew it was your job, that you had a duty to fulfill and your private life had to stay out of it but sometimes it wasn’t that easy.
“You sure you don’t want anything to drink, sugar?” Asked the man who insistently continued to hit on you. You didn’t even know his name – or care to know – but you smiled anyway with fake naivety, slightly shaking your head.
You quickly glanced at Jay who was sitting in front of you, noticing he was busy talking to Ryder, but his gaze met yours for a moment. It was brief but in that simple look you understood he too had noticed that guy’s insistence. Jay had his arms crossed over his chest, breathing heavy, his jaw clenched as he saw how this man insisted on getting closer to you.
He was disgusting, he smelled of alcohol from miles away, and you had to repress the urge to vomit and the instinct to punch his ugly face.
The man approached further, sliding on the sofa towards you and you moved back, trying to create further distance but without making it obvious and making him suspicious.
“You know, my boss is quite jealous of his employees, you shouldn’t be so close to me,” you falsely giggled but he didn’t seem to get the hint, in fact, it seemed to amuse him even more.
“We’re all one big family here darling, what’s mine is someone else’s and what’s someone else’s is mine…” He rested an arm on the back of the sofa behind your shoulders and although he hadn’t even touched you, you felt your skin crawl and the urgent need to throw yourself into an acid bath. “If you want to do business with us your boss will have to learn how to share… Especially with such a beautiful and gracious girl like you.”
The desire to kick him in the balls was intense and you wondered what kind of woman would really fall for these words.
Jay was on the verge of losing his mind.
He was trying.
He was really trying but it was so fucking hard to stay still and not react when that son of a bitch was being a creep with his wife. Ryder was talking to him about something he didn’t even care about, but he couldn’t pay attention and process a single word, too focused on you.
He couldn’t help but glance at you every now and then, running a hand on his jaw in frustration and starting to fidget on the spot as he saw the man getting closer and closer to you and invading your personal space, like touching your hair or caress your shoulder.
It wasn’t jealousy, he could never be jealous of a filthy man like him but he deeply hated not being able to do anything to keep you safe without ruining the whole mission. He hated seeing you so tense and uncomfortable although from the way your hands were balled into fists in your lap, he knew you too were itching to punch him.
He hated having to pretend you were simply his work partner and not his wife.
But he swore he saw red when that man’s clammy hand rested on your face and your eyes widened at the contact as your entire body froze in place.
Fuck the mission and these motherfuckers too.
Jay lost control.
That slimy hand on you had driven him crazy and before he knew it, he had stood up and grabbed the man’s hand with his, punching him in the face with all the strength in his body. He didn’t catch the gasp that escaped you and he didn’t even care he had just ruined any chance of doing ‘business’ with Ryder along with the possibility of framing him. While his fist hit that bastard again and again, all he could do was think of those hands on you.
“That’s my fucking wife you motherfucker!” Jay screamed in his face, holding him by the collar of his shirt as the man spat out blood, struggling to keep up with the fury of the undercover detective. “Let me catch you again putting a hand on her or even just looking her way, I’ll enjoy breaking your fingers one by one before throwing you in jail.”
Everything was now chaos.
The team, who in the meantime had witnessed everything through your hidden cameras, burst in when they realized the situation had now worsened to the point of no return. You tried to pull Jay away from the man, but it was totally useless, not when he was so furious that your strength was no match for his.
Ryder was fuming when he realized you were cops and you had tried to frame him, swearing he’d make you pay dearly while Kevin handcuffed him along with the rest of his goons.
“Baby,” you called back but Jay didn’t look at you right away. You stood outside the club under Voight’s orders, a hand on his bicep and caressing him as you tried to get his attention. You were alone in a little corner, waiting for your boss for his inevitable fury.
“You okay?” He asked, his voice low but finally focusing his gaze on you.
You let out a laugh trying to diffuse the tension, you hated seeing him so furious. “You are ask me if I’m okay? I’m not the one who just punched a guy.”
He sighed, tearing his eyes away from you as he ran his hands over his face with frustration. Your heart clenched at the sight of his red and bruised knuckles. “I wish I had killed him to be honest.”
“Jay I don’t want you to get hurt because of me,” you replied, taking his hands in yours and leaving a kiss on the back of them, smiling when you saw his hard features start to soften at the gesture. “I could’ve handled him, I wouldn’t have let him go any further.”
“I know you could baby, you’re amazing,” he softy spoke, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear. He took a step towards you, closing the distance enough you had to slightly lift your head up to look into his eyes. “But there’s no way on earth that I would have sat there and watched while that son of a bitch put his hands on you.”
He cupped your face with his hands, his thumbs caressing your heated cheeks. “No one gets to put a hand on you, much less against your will. You’re my wife, I’m the only bastard who can touch you and I will gladly kill anyone who dares to do it instead of me, am I clear?”
You let out a breath, almost on the verge of passing out right there and now in his arms. “God baby I want to suck your dick so bad right now. I love when you get so protective of me, it’s so hot.”
Jay burst out laughing, his stomach clenching in anticipation knowing you would stand by your words. He pulled you into a hug and you rested your head on his chest as you wrapped your arms around him. “I’ll always keep you safe, I won’t let anyone touch a single hair of your head, I hope you know it. God knows I would set the city on fire to protect you.”
“I know baby, I love you so damn much it’s insane,” you deeply inhaled the smell of his cologne, leaving a kiss on his shirt coated chest. “But I hope it’s worth it because Voight is coming and I think he’s ready to take us both out,” you continued when you broke away from the hug and saw your boss coming up behind Jay, a furious look on his face.
“Oh yeah, it’ll always be worth it, especially for the amazing blowjob you’ll give me later.”
Maybe We Could Do It Again
Pairing: Jay Halstead x Reader
Word count: 4,632
Warnings: bickering and fluff.
Summary: Jay meets the Reader as they’re both babysitting Makayla for Adam and Kim and they end up tangled up on the ground and kissing.
Disclaimer: I don’t own any of the One Chicago shows, or its characters, also not associated with it in any way, or know anyone involved with it.
A/N: Okay, so this is one of the longest fics I’ve written, which might be a little too long but I hope you guys like it and feel free to send feedback! By the way, this is the first time I insert Burzek in one of my fics but I think I got their energy right ;)
“Oh my God, Adam! I can’t believe that even when you’re not supposed to do something you get it wrong!” Kim yelled at her boyfriend.
“What the hell-” He even tried to respond but got immediately interrupted for his bad language.
“Adam!” She hissed again, not believing how he could still curse so much now that the two of them had a child in the house.
“Sorry, sorry!” He said, nervously raising his hands, as Kim already peeked through the kitchen doors to see Jay and Makayla pretend like they hadn’t been listening to every word of their conversation in the living room. “It’s just… I remember you specifically telling me to find someone to babysit the kid, so I did it! How is it possible that I’m the one who-”
“Yes! I did ask you two to do that! On Monday! And do you remember what you told me?” He didn’t dare to say anything. “Oh, no? Because I do! I remember you saying, and I quote:” she said, even making finger quotes to emphasize the whole thing, “‘Where the hell am I supposed to find a babysitter for Makayla? None of my friends have any experience with kids!’” Kim shoved it in his face, making a very good point for herself. But, as usual, Adam decided to go against any sign of good judgment and continue to defend himself. He knew he could never let Kim in on it, but Jay himself was one of those who had already heard the officer saying how much he loved bickering with his girlfriend and getting her all fired up against him.
“No, uh! That won’t cut it! You told me, and I quote: ‘Then hire someone! I don’t know! But you’re the one who came up with the date night idea, so don’t come and throw something that should be your responsibility on my shoulders!’, so I knew that I needed to find someone! Kev and Vanessa are visiting his siblings this weekend, so I thought: why not Jay? He’s good with kids, and he offered to help us with Makayla!” Adam concluded, absolutely proud of himself while Kim just rolled her eyes.
“Oh. My. God!!! You do know he didn’t mean that literally, don’t you?” She was already fuming by that point.
“Err-” He had to admit that he’d never stopped to think about that possibility…
“No one means that literally!!” She shouted, this time, making even the neighbors hear their arguing. “No one means that literally, and, now, you’re just making us both look like the cops who can’t take care of their own kid in front of the entire unit.” She stated, in a lower, tone while pinching the bridge of her nose.
“But this is not the entire unit! This is Jay! Our friend Jay, who had offered!” Adam stood by that argument and Kim had already opened her mouth to shoot a remark back when Jay came into the kitchen.
“Makayla’s distracted with the tv.” He started with that so that they wouldn’t be worried. “Uh... Guys, Kim, you don’t have to worry about me telling anyone about this, okay? I won’t. Besides, I did mean what I said before. I’m here to help. Whatever you guys need. Plus, for someone who had plans of watching a game rerun alone at home on a Friday night, babysitting that cute little girl is almost like hitting a jackpot!” Jay assured, giving them a small smile and shiny eyes headed towards Makayla’s direction. Babysitting a kid, when he was probably never gonna have one of his own, was one of the things that he, personally, missed the most about when Will and Natalie were together. Back when Lindsay lived in Chicago, he used to be sure that, someday, he was gonna find someone. Settle down. Build a family. But, now… After everything that had happened, he couldn’t help but feel like his time to do all that had run out. So, instead of mooning over it, he could gladly babysit Makayla.
“Well, um, thank you, Jay,” Kim started, nervously tucking a string of hair behind her ear, “that’s really nice to hear. And we very much appreciate it. But-” She didn’t get a chance to finish as the doorbell rang and Adam rushed towards the apartment’s entrance to prevent his very excited little girl from opening the door by herself. When he got there, followed by the other two adults, Makayla was already standing on her tiptoes, hand-in-handle.
“Hey! Watcha doing, you little adventurous?!” Adam asked while picking her up from the floor and tickling her sides, which made her become a giggling mess. “You can’t just open the door like that, darlin’! You gotta check on the peephole first,” he said, as he lifted her up enough so that she could look through the hole, “like this. See someone?”
“Yes! It’s (y/n/n)!” She squealed out. “Can we open the door now? Please, Adam?” Makayla asked, shooting him pleading eyes, while her body buzzed with happiness.
“Ah, (y/n/n), right,” Adam said simply, opening the door and fearing that Kim would want to restart the whole discussion with him.
“Hey, princess!” And that simple greeting was all it took for Makayla to throw herself from Adam’s arms straight to yours. “Wow,” you laughed at her sudden movement, which had caused you to lose your balance a little, “you excited to see me?”
“Yes!! Did you bring the bakings???” She asked you eagerly, bakings being what she called your cooking utensils.
“No, not today!” Your answer made her face, almost immediately, turn into a sad frown. “But I brought this!” You told her while lifting up a box that read ‘karaoke set’, above a few drawings of a microphone and musical notes. Seeing that, Makayla’s saddened expression shifted in two seconds, eyes lighting up.
“Look, Kim!” The little girl shrieked, more than ready to have what she already knew was about to be the time of her life.
“Yeah, I see that! Seems like you girls are gonna have a blast…” Your friend weirdly trailed off, as her mind tried to find a quick solution to the mess her boyfriend had made.
“Uh…” Was all that a very handsome man you hadn’t met yet managed to let out.
“Jay, um, this is my best friend (y/n). (y/n/n), this is our friend from work Jay. I’m sorry about the mess, guys, it’s Adam’s fault.” Kim spoke again, bluntly accusing her boyfriend.
“My fault??? Are you kidding??? You told me to find someone to watch Makayla 'cause you didn’t want us to keep bothering (y/n)!”
“Guys! It’s no bother at all, really. Hanging out with this little princess is in my best interest, believe me!” You said, quickly defending your case.
“Well, thanks for saying that, (y/n/n). What happened here is that Adam told me he wouldn’t be able to get anyone,” Kim started while shooting daggers into her boyfriend with her bare eyes. “So, since I wasn’t about to just wait for a miracle, I called and asked you to do it. But someone didn’t think about telling me that he had already gotten Jay to come. And now you’re both here, ugh!” She finished, rather dramatically, while pointing a finger at Adam.
That was, seriously, the best couple you knew when it came to bickering.
“Okay, so, um, it’s not gonna be any trouble. I can leave since your colleague got here first and you don’t need to be stressed on your date night, friend.” You tried to bring things to a peaceful ending before Kim turned it into a murder scene.
“Oh, I do need to be stressed! I need to-” She started to debate but got cut off by Makayla’s cute pleading voice:
“But you can’t leave, (y/n/n)! We’re gonna play karaoke!” The little girl clearly had already gotten worked up by your idea for the night.
“Makayla, baby, please don’t be difficult. You hang out with (y/n/n) all the time, and uncle Jay is already here…” You watched as Adam tried to reason with his daughter while she held you really tight.
“No, uh…” Their friend started to say. Was it too weird for you to be thinking about how incredibly cute he looked when scratching the back of his neck like that? “Relax, man, I can go. I bet that you’re gonna have a lot more fun with her than with me, anyways, Mak.” He completed, talking to your little friend with a sweet smile, to which she reacted with a confused frown.
“But- but why does Jay have to leave? Can’t he play karaoke with us, (y/n/n)?” Makayla asked you poutingly.
“Now that’s something I’d like to see!” Adam started to mock but stopped when Kim punched him in the arm. “Ouch! That hurt, you know?”
“I know! That was exactly the result I was hoping for!” She squealed out sarcastically, “Makayla, honey, you can’t just ask both (y/n/n) and Jay to play karaoke, of all things, with you.” It was lovely to watch Kim interacting so patiently with her kid but the young girl still didn’t seem to understand.
“But why???”
“Well, they don’t know each other, Makayla.” Kim tried again but Mak still wasn’t ready to give it up.
“But they know me!”
“Good luck explaining now, ma.” As soon as the words came out of his mouth, all of you 𑁋 Adam himself included 𑁋 knew what was coming, fortunately, Kim just punched him in the arm again.
“You know, guys, you don’t need to fight over something like this, okay? Uh… Since he’s your coworker, I’m gonna assume that he’s one of the good guys, therefore I wouldn’t really have a problem with hanging out with him…” You said because you were never one to say no to little kids. “I mean if that’s okay with you, too, officer…”
“It’s detective, actually. But you can call me Jay, uh, (y/n), right?”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
“Well, I don’t have any problems with hanging out with you either,” Jay said and, Jesus, was that really his smile? “I mean, Mak should get all the babysitters she wants!” He told her with a wink. It was official. You were so done for the night.
“Ha!” Kim nervously let out a laugh, “let’s go easy there, cowboy! You can’t just come into my house offering the kid everything she wants.”
“Okay, okay,” the detective started to say with a gesture of surrender while the couple started to get out of the house to give you the space to properly go in. “Sorry ‘bout that, ma!” You could have sworn that you saw him tremble 𑁋 just a little 𑁋 under the deadly gaze your friend sent his way. Adam, who seemed to be off the hook for the first time that night, took the moment to laugh and hope that his girl would forget she had been so mad at him.
“C’mon, darling. Let’s get going before we decide it isn’t very safe to leave Mak with those two.”
"Yeah… I'm already deciding that but maybe they'll prove us wrong." Kim said, voice absolutely faithless. "You behave, Makayla!"
"It's more than obvious that she's going to be the best tonight. Get outta here already!" You heard Jay yelling a little in response to her, as you and Makayla started to get the karaoke set up.
But you, being the lucky person you were, obviously couldn't find your way around your friend's old stuff.
"Uh, you need any help there?"
“No! No, not all! Um, I got this!” You quickly responded because you could be pretty skeptical when it came to admitting your weaknesses and, from your point of view, not getting a simple karaoke set to work was a huge one.
“Alright, then…”
“Are you sure you don’t want Jay to help, (y/n/n)?” Mak asked, sounding way more reasonable than you, the actual adult there.
“Um, err, I guess maybe I could use some help… It’s just that this TV setup is quite different from mine…” You said, still unwilling to let how confused you were really show.
“Yeah, I can help!” you heard Jay as he left his spot in the corner of the room. “I was just ordering us pizza but I can totally help out 'cause Adam and I actually shopped for these TVs together, so I have the same one!” He said, this time, already gently getting the device from your hands before you could even react, which was probably him sensing that you wouldn’t give it up so easily, like he could see right through you.
“Okay, well, since you already ordered the pizza, I’ll go make us some juice.” As you said that you got both of your companions making weird faces at you, so you amended: “Or not, because you already ordered soda too… Just keep in mind that if Kim gets mad because of all the junk food that kid is eating, I’m telling on you, detective!” You said, making a point to stare right into his eyes 𑁋 God, they were so beautiful, was there nothing but beauty in this man’s body?
“Okay, so I think we’re all good here with the karaoke! Who wants to go first?” Hearing that you came of your very dangerous thoughts and Makayla jumped up and down, screaming:
“Me! Me! Me!”
“Alright, little lady, then come pick a song!” Jay told her and stood by to help her with her choice.
About three hours later all three of you had already sung your hearts out 𑁋 Jay having had gone for ABBA, which surprised you and Mak, to say the least 𑁋 eaten lots of pizza, drunk lots of soda and had begun watching a movie, cause you told Jay that that always did the trick when it came to Mak falling asleep. But, God, it was hard to pay attention to the movie you were supposed to be watching when sitting next to a guy like that. And he wasn’t just really handsome. He was sweet and kind and funny. Also, he was so good with Makayla. It was like everything you’d always imagined the perfect man being like was right there, reunited in the detective’s goof self. But you couldn't be thinking those thoughts about him. Not when he was so close. And definitely not when your best friend's daughter was lying on both of your laps.
So, in order to calm your thoughts for a minute, you gently put Makayla’s head on a cushion as you got up 𑁋 because she was already asleep 𑁋, and said I’m gonna get started on cleaning over there.” It was indeed necessary since Mak had dropped all of the content of a big ice cream container near the dining table, the ice cream being very sticky and sort of liquid 𑁋 which was obviously beyond your understanding but who were you to judge Kim and her preferences?
"Oh God, lemme help you!" You heard Jay saying, as he quickly made his way from the corridor over to where you were cleaning the floor, by the dining table.
"Ah, there's no need for it. I'm used to spending time with Mak, and, then, cleaning up before Kim sees it." You told him with a sly smile.
"Ha! Well, I don't doubt it! You're really good with her."
"And she's really good at making giant messes."
"Right." He said, chuckling lightly. "But, this time, I bet you felt like there were two kids, huh?"
"Your words, not mine, detective."
"Anyways, I'll help. Don't tell Kim and Adam, cause they might spread it across the district, but I'm actually pretty good at cleaning. Especially, when compared to someone who's doing such a lousy job." At that, you instantly snapped your head in his direction.
"What did you just say?" You asked, pretending to be mad while standing up and raising your sponge, as if it was a weapon you were threatening him with.
"Uh… Uh, d- did you know that pulling a weapon on a cop is a crime?" He asked, trying to play along, but stuttering a little.
"And what are you gonna do?" Now that Makayla was asleep… "Huh? Arrest me?" Jesus Christ, you definitely weren't thinking straight, you thought as you watched Jay drop his mop, also spilling all the soapy water on the floor. He even motioned to take care of it but stopped when he realized that you were, now, standing closer. Closer than it was safe for him to be near a woman like you. So he decided to take a step backward, not remembering the floor situation and slipping. As a reflex, you grabbed his shirt when you were obviously not gonna be able to prevent him from falling.
So, you ended up falling with him. On top of him. Oh God, was that living room always so hot? Your thoughts were cut off by Jay's laugh, it was an open-mouthed laugh, just like when you two were interacting with Makayla. He didn't seem to be the kind of guy who got to laugh too much, especially given his job. But it definitely suited his features. His smile, that bright, was so beautiful.
"So you're seriously not even gonna try and get up? Just gonna stay there staring?" Hearing that, you blushed instantly, because you hadn't even realized you were staring.
"Ah, uh… Right." Now, that was your turn to stutter, and Jay was loving every second of it. He thought you looked absolutely adorable like that. Even more so than you had looked all night.
But you weren't feeling adorable at all. You were embarrassed. By the situation at hand, sure, but, also, by your entire behavior that had, pretty much, gotten the two of you in that position. What was going through your head? The answer was simple: nothing. Or, better yet, Jay's gorgeous face, body, and behavior. Just, Jay being gorgeous all night. Now, what really made you wanna dig a hole and jump right into it was when you tried to get up but the floor was so slippery that you just fell back on him.
Needless to say, he was having a playfield. Laughing like there was no tomorrow. In fact, he had relaxed completely under you, laying his head on the soaked floor.
"You know what? This is pretty comfortable. I think I'll stay right here." It was official: you had no self-shame.
"Are you serious?" He asked, trying hard to hold back from laughing.
"Look, I don't know what else to do, okay? And my brain is clearly affected by your little charm, because I just keep mortifying myself over and over-"
"So you think I'm charming, huh?" Damn it. A thousand times damn it.
"Uh… That's not exactly what I-" You couldn't finish your sentence, as Jay started pulling you even closer to him. Kissing you. Oh boy, how he kissed you…
"Oh. My. God." Both you and Jay jumped away from each other, as much as you could, the second you heard Kim say that, her being followed suit by Adam:
"What the hell is that?!?" He half-asked, half-barked at the both of you, trying hard to not burst into laughter.
"Uh, it's, um, it's not what you're thinking, guys-"
"It's not what I'm thinking?!?" Yeah… It was safe to say that Kim was pissed. "Are you sure it isn't? Because the image actually seemed pretty self-explanatory to me!" As the both of you just kept working out a way to get up from the floor, she continued: "I come back home thinking that everything was gonna be perfect because my daughter had two adults babysitting her! People that I thought were quite responsible but, then, I come home to find those very adults making out on the floor in my living room! My very dirty living room! And, by the way, where the hell is Makayla?"
"She, um, she's in her bedroom. Asleep." Jay finally spoke. "And, about the mess… We were just, uh…"
"Yeah, man, we saw what you were just doing," Adam said, looking like he was having the time of his life.
"No! That's not what he was gonna say-"
"Ah, so the two of you got along so well that now you even know what he was going to say, (y/n)?" Kim said, while glaring at you.
"All I meant was that, well, the place got a little dirty…" Jay started to explain but not fast enough.
"A little???" Kim was really, really mad, you realized.
"But dinner was great!" At that, both you and Kim just stared at him incredulously while Adam started laughing on his way to the kitchen.
"That's what you were going to say???" You ask him, not believing you'd just tried to defend him for some joke. "Kim, I'm sorry things ended up this unfruitful…" You began to tell your best friend, to try and patch things up, when Adam chipped in from the other room.
"You know, darling, Jay wasn't wrong! This pizza is great!" He barked, mouth full. And that's what got Kim to go over the edge.
"Don't you realize what just happened here, Adam??? And, you two! I still haven't heard an explanation on what the hell I just saw!"
"I'm sorry, okay? I'm sorry! We were cleaning up and then it just-"
"It just what, (y/n)??? It just happened? That what you were gonna say?"
"As a matter of fact, yes, it is! It just happened because you and your boyfriend made me babysit with this ridiculously hot guy and I'm human! Now, before you have another crisis, Makayla didn't see anything and I'm leaving because I just humiliated myself more than enough for a lifetime!" With that said, and your flight or flee instinct activated — cause you were never much of a fighter —, you did the smartest thing possible and stormed out of there, hoping to be able to get into some sort of protection program for embarrassment victims.
Meanwhile, Adam and Kim simply had to laugh, even more so when they noticed Jay's shocked twinkling expression.
"Jay! What is wrong with you?" Kim asked, taking him out of his daze.
"What?"
"Go after her! If I hadn't been so upset about the circumstances, I would've been the first one to say that what happened over there?" She asked, pointing to the floor. "What happened there was hot." The officer finished her trail of thought bluntly, as if it was the most obvious thing.
"But… What about your living room?" Jay asked, still unsure of what to do.
"Are you kidding me? Look, Halstead, if you promise not to break her heart… I won't hold it against you." Kim stated, making her stance on the whole matter very clear. She thought it was a good way to start apologizing to you after freaking out like that.
"Uh, uh, alright!" The detective rambled, looking like he had no idea of what to do next.
“Go!” With that last push, he left his friends’ house to go try and get the girl.
“You know, this is quite a mess but they do have the potential to be a great couple!” Adam happily pointed out, as he kept eating all he could find.
“Ha! If she’s as lucky as I am…” Kim ironically muttered, as she watched her boyfriend impolitely shoving food in his mouth.
“Then she’s a very lucky lady!” He confidently stated with a grin while all Kim could do was laugh at his messy childish ways.
Outside burzek's apartment — burzek being the ship name you used to tease Kim and Adam with —, you had been slowly walking towards the subway. You wanted to move faster but your mind was too full at the moment. And, sometimes, when you needed to get your head back on straight, you couldn't really do anything else, having a hard time concentrating on your flow of thoughts.
It was right when you were beginning to think you had stopped the spirals in your mind that you heard him: "(y/n)!" You recognized the detective's voice on the spot. How could you not, after how he had managed to disrupt your thoughts and actions all evening? But you weren't about to turn back around and have your very own movie ending with him. You just knew it wasn't gonna play out like that and decided to keep walking in order to preserve the little dignity you still had. "Oh, c'mon! Just give me a minute! Please!" That pleading made you turn around, to let him down more politely, which ended up with the two of you almost hitting each other. Once again, that same night, he was too close to you. The proximity with his body sending all sorts of heatwaves through yours. He seemed to be feeling it too, given the way he started to look at you, the damn smirk back on his lips.
"Nu-uh. You don't get to look at me like that. Not after what it did to me the first time."
"Huh. Care to elaborate on that? How exactly am I looking at you?" He asked, moving even closer to you altogether. "And, more importantly, what exactly did it do to you?"
"You don't need me to answer any of that." You pointed out, crossing your arms over your chest — clearly going into defensive mode.
"Maybe not," he started, tilting his head slightly — the damn smirks never leaving his face. "But. I'd like to hear it nevertheless."
"Well, you're not going to."
"Ah, okay." Wait, was he really giving up that easily? "Then maybe I can just try and see what it does to you one more time? For the sake of curiosity." All you could think to say was an enthusiastic 'Yes, please!' but, when he started leaning in to kiss you, you seemed to come back to your senses, pushing him away and taking some steps back of your own.
"Oh my God! Don't you get it? We can't be doing this right now. Not after the way I left things with Kim because of our previous, um, actions!" At that, Jay just gave you a confused look. "I stormed out of there but just because I was feeling too ashamed about it all and I honestly don’t think that I want any more embarrassment for a lifetime.
“Okay, okay. I get that but maybe it would feel less embarrassing for you if you knew that I was feeling all of that too: all of that buzzing energy and the goddamn butterflies and everything. You were doing exactly the same I did to you to me. And, as embarrassing as it was to be caught like that by Adam and Kim, I still can’t say I regret any of it. In fact, I was thinking that maybe we could do it again? You know, minus all the mess and the kid 𑁋 I mean, I adore Mak but that would be-”
You didn’t care to listen to the rest of all he had to say. Instead, you threw yourself into his arms, even making him lose his balance for a second, and started kissing him, except that this time it was a slow, hot, and thought-through kiss. And the second you did kiss him, you heard clapping and whistling from afar, as you turned to find Kim and Adam there, once again witnessing you and Jay kiss. And that had Jay whispering to you:
“Let’s get out of here?” To which you responded simply with a:
“Yes, please!”
Hi! Can you please do 51 from the prompt list with jay halstead?
51. “You’re cold, take my jacket.” (I changed this slightly, but it's the same premise.)
If there were one thing you retained from your childhood, then it's the fact that if someone tells you that you'd be cold and should bring a jacket and you ignore them, then you won't admit you're cold. Was it petty? Sure, but that was the way you were raised, and you refused to change that because at the end of the day, not proving someone right is far more gratifying than acquiescing. You refused to conform.
Which was the exact reason why Jay was annoyed at you right now.
Currently, you and Jay were standing at a park, trying to observe an exchange going down. It was frantic and rushed as you got the Intel, so you forgot to grab your coat on the way out. When Jay noticed you weren't wearing a jacket, he mentioned it, but you replied that you'd be fine. He gave you a look of question, but now that you voiced that you'd be fine, you weren't turning back
Which brings you to this moment where you're absolutely, extraordinarily freezing, but you won't do anything about it.
"I'm sure you could run to the truck and grab a hoodie that I keep in case of emergencies," Jay proposes, noticing how far deep into your pant pockets your hands are shoved.
It was cold, unusually cold, even for Jay in his winter jacket and sweater and scarf and gloves. He can only imagine how cold you are in your sweater and jeans with a thin cardigan.
"Jay, we're here to work, so let's just work and not worry about anything else," you tell your partner.
"I can see your breath, thats how cold you are," Jay points out.
"I can see your breath, so that's how cold it is in general."
He sighs. "Why won't you just let me get the hoodie for you?"
"Because I'm not cold," you say, bitter, through your teeth clattering. You were cold, and you wished you didn't have your stubborn tendencies.
"Fine," Jay says, eyes scanning the park. "I'm going to make a small loop around the park to see if I see anything. Keep your radio on."
You nod and keep your position in tact. Stealthily, your eyes follow Jay as he walks away before you lose sight of him as he walks amongst some trees. You turn your head away and let a shiver run through your body.
It's a few minutes later, and you still haven't seen your suspect, but you jump when you feel a jacket drape over your shoulders with two large hands grip your shoulders.
"Put it on," Jay commands.
"Jay, I'm fine."
"I don't care. Put it on. I'm tired of watching you shiver. Stop being stubborn and put on the hoodie."
You don't say anything as you slip it on and let the warmth encapsulate you. "Thank you."
"Your stubbornness is going to be the death of me," Jay mutters but doesn't notice your confused look.
You'd figure out what that means another time.
Good Enough
Tumblr media
I leaned against the balcony railing, staring out at the cityscape of Chicago, lost in my thoughts. The soft hum of the city below provided a backdrop to the whirlwind of emotions inside me. Beside me, YN stood, her presence a soothing balm to the storm in my mind. We'd been through so much together, the ups and downs of life in the Chicago PD, but sometimes, that sense of camaraderie felt fragile, like it could slip through my fingers at any moment.
YN glanced at me, her blue eyes filled with concern. "Jay, you've been quiet all evening. Something's bothering you."
I shook my head, struggling to find the right words. "It's just... Sometimes I feel like no matter how hard I try, it's never enough. There's always something more I should be doing, something better I could be."
She sighed softly, her hand touching my arm in a comforting gesture. "Jay, you're one of the best cops I know. You're dedicated, skilled, and you genuinely care about making a difference. But you can't carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. None of us can."
I met her gaze, a mixture of gratitude and frustration swirling within me. "I know, YN. It's just that sometimes, it feels like Voight expects more from me. Like he's waiting for me to slip up."
YN leaned against the railing, her expression thoughtful. "Voight's a tough boss, no doubt about that. But I've seen the way he looks at you, Jay. It's not disappointment; it's a challenge. He sees your potential, and he's pushing you to reach it."
I ran a hand through my hair, letting out a sigh. "I appreciate that he believes in me, but it's hard. The pressure..."
"You're not alone in this, Jay," YN said firmly. "You've got me, and you've got the team. We've got your back, always."
I turned to her, a small smile tugging at the corner of my lips. "I'm grateful for that, YNN. You've always been the anchor in my storm."
She grinned, nudging my shoulder playfully. "Someone's got to keep your head on straight."
As we shared a moment of laughter, I felt a renewed sense of strength. YN was right. I wasn't alone in this struggle. Voight's challenges weren't meant to break me; they were meant to mold me into a better cop. And I had YN by my side, reminding me that I was enough just as I was.
"So, what do you say we head back inside?" YN suggested. "There's a pool table with our names on it."
I nodded, casting one more glance at the city below. The lights twinkled like stars against the canvas of the night. With YN and the team behind me, I was ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. The road might be tough, but with unbreakable bonds and unwavering support, I knew I could navigate it.
Together, we walked back inside, ready to take on whatever awaited us in the city of Chicago.
The sound of laughter and clinking glasses greeted us as we stepped back into Molly's, the familiar bar where our team often gathered. Will Halstead, my brother, and YN's boyfriend, was at the pool table, sinking shots with an impressive accuracy. He had that charming grin on his face that could disarm just about anyone, and his eyes lit up as he noticed us entering.
"Speak of the devil," Will teased, lining up another shot. "You guys here to challenge the reigning pool champion?"
YN smirked, elbowing me playfully. "Care to show him what we're made of, Jay?"
I chuckled, shaking my head. "I think I'll leave that to you, YNN."
YN grabbed a cue stick, and soon, the two of them were engaged in a friendly match, trading banter and showcasing their skills on the table. It was a sight to behold – my brother and my best friend, finding common ground and happiness together. Seeing them like this filled me with a sense of contentment.
As I leaned against the bar, I caught sight of Voight sitting at a corner table, nursing a drink. He was watching us, his gaze thoughtful. Taking a deep breath, I decided it was time to face my doubts head-on. I walked over to him, pulling out a chair and sitting down.
"Hey," I began, my voice steady despite the uncertainty in my chest.
Voight looked at me, his expression unreadable. "Halstead."
"I know I've had my share of struggles," I said, meeting his gaze directly. "And sometimes, it feels like I'll never be good enough."
Voight took a slow sip of his drink, his eyes locked onto mine. "You've got potential, Jay. But potential means nothing if you don't push yourself. I'm not going to coddle you because I believe you're capable of more. And I expect you to live up to that."
I nodded, a mix of determination and gratitude welling up within me. "I won't let you down, Voight. I'll prove that I can handle whatever you throw my way."
Voight's lips quirked into a half-smile. "Good. That's what I want to hear."
As I returned to the bar, watching YN and Will's playful rivalry on the pool table, I felt a renewed sense of purpose. Voight's expectations weren't meant to crush me; they were a challenge to rise above my own doubts. And with YN's unwavering support and Will's reassuring presence, I knew I had the foundation to stand strong.
The night continued with laughter, camaraderie, and the clatter of pool balls. We were a team, a family bound by unbreakable bonds. And as I watched my best friend and my brother sharing a victory dance around the pool table, I realized that I was already good enough – not just for Voight, but for myself.
In the heart of Chicago, surrounded by those who believed in me, I was ready to face the challenges that lay ahead. With every shot sunk and every hurdle overcome, I was carving my own path, proving that I was capable of more than I'd ever imagined.
Hostage Situation
Requested by anonymous
Tumblr media
I had always had a knack for helping people. However, instead of becoming a police officer, like my brother Jay, or a surgeon, like my brother Will, I became a nurse. Working at Chicago Med was everything I dreamed it'd be. Plus, getting to work alongside one of my brothers most days was usually enjoyable. Today, however, I was with both of my brothers at work. But it wasn't a pleasant experience.
"I will shoot you," the man holding the gun to my head insisted, his finger hovering over the trigger.
The hostage taker, Dan, had barged into the ED arguing to speak to the doctor who was in charge of treating his son. And when no one would answer his questions, he pulled out his gun and grabbed the nearest employee, which just so happened to be me. So now, here I was, trapped in the doctors' lounge with a gun pointed at my head. Thankfully, Jay was also in the room, and his gun was out as well, but aimed at Dan instead of me. From where I was standing, I could see Will out in the ED watching the situation, and by the way he was acting, plus the face he was making, I could tell that he was very worried.
"Dan, I know my opinion isn't that important right now, but could you not shoot me? For a nurse who deals with needles and sharp equipment everyday, my pain tolerance isn't that high," I explain.
"Y/n, please shut up and let me deal with this," Jay hissed, his gaze still focused on Dan.
"What? I just wanted him to know," I defend.
"Both of you shut up!" Dan demanded. "Now, Detective, if I don't speak to Dr. Smith in the next five minutes, I'm gonna kill her."
"I already told you Dr. Smith isn't in today," I say. "So if you could just put the gun down and let me go."
"I said I want to speak to Dr. Smith. Now!" Dan commanded.
When it was clear Dan wasn't going to budge, I turned to my other options. As soon as Dan's finger was far enough away from the trigger, I reached up, grabbed the gun with one hand, elbowed Dan in the face with the other, and pushed myself away from him. Now, I had the gun, and Dan was armed. Jay rushed in quickly, handcuffing Dan, who was now on the floor, and turned to me.
"What the hell was that?" Jay asked as another officer escorted Dan out of the room.
"That was what I learned in the self defense classes you made me take when I started college," I respond. "But no thank you for taking down the criminal?"
"I'm glad you're okay," Jay breathed out and pulled me in for a hug. Seconds later, we were joined by Will, who wrapped his arms around the two of us.
"You had me so worried," Will admitted. "But when are you gonna learn to shut your mouth?"
"Never," I reply playfully. "Now come on. Shift is over, and I need a drink. First round is on you guys."
