A new chapter of PS. is up and only 2 more to go (+an epilogue)! I'm lowkey (okay maybe not so lowkey) looking forward to be finished with this fic. I'm not cut out for these long-term projects. All of you out there writing those 300+K word fics - mad respect. I could never do that.

Remus: After I got over my hang-ups, your friendship became one of the things I value most in my life. So I assumed Sirius would have more sense in his stupid head than risk losing you over a temper tantrum.

James: Aw, Remus.

James: You’re gonna make me cry.

Remus: Somebody needs to appreciate you, Jamie. You do so much for everyone all the time. It actually works against you. Your goodness is so ever-present that it’s easy to take it for granted.

Remus: That’s what I value about Reg. I don’t think he does. Every time you smile at him, he gets this dopey expression.

Remus: The ‘I can’t believe James Potter likes me’ expression.

James: Does he, really?

Remus: Yup. Don’t tell him I gave away his little secret. He’d probably murder me in my sleep.

James: That’s likely.

James: I love him so much.

Remus: You two are a strangely unhinged couple, but like I said. It fits. Just curb his more bloodthirsty tendencies.

James: Don’t worry. He’s a softie on the inside. He only likes to act tough.

I’m here not only to hit you with a twin Black brothers au but also Slytherin Sirius because Slytherin Sirius is my dearest beloved. He’s just as arrogant and spiteful and intelligent but he’s also so cunning and has big ambitions for his role as heir. He wants the House of Black to remain powerful and wealthy (obviously) but he also intends to make it stand for everything his parents despise.

“Oh Morgan it’s because he’s passionate about muggleborn rights and equality, right?” WRONG HE’S INDIFFERENT TO POLITICS AT BEST! He is passionate about his twin brother though and he’s been scheming to ruin Walburga and Orion’s lives for constantly belittling and misgendering his brother. OBVIOUSLY Regulus is trans; they’re twins and Sirius has know Regulus was trans since forever. Their parents tried to force him to wear dresses and long hair but Sirius always gave Reggie his clothes and chopped his twin’s hair off himself.

And ofc Sirius and James have the most intense and absurd rivalry; in Gryffindor together they’re besties but in separate houses they’re constantly at each other’s throats. It only gets worse when James has the audacity to develop a crush on his twin brother!!! He’d probably be better at cockblocking if James’ very tall and very attractive werewolf friend would stop distracting. (Obvi they know Remus is a werewolf and obviously they end up becoming animagi because anything James Potter can do Sirius and Regulus can do better)

OOOOOOH I LOVE THIS AU VERY MUCH MORGAN <333 i'm a sirius is a gryffindor through and through BUT i do think that he has a lot of slythetin qualities and i think he resembles walburga A Lot in many things so.. i'm always very into stories that make him a slytherin and explore that other side of him.. see what could've been and how different he would've turned out to be..

AND IF HE'S IN SLYTHERIN OFC HE HAS A RIVALRY WITH JAMES GOING ON YOU GET MEEEE their friendship and soulmatism is very important to me but also i genuinely think that if the circumstances had been the slightest bit different . they could've ended up clashing, bc they're too similar sometimes, and stubborn and proud and arrogant in their own ways. so i truly believe that the possibility of them not getting along is very much there (an unpopular opinion i'm aware)

March 27th

—

James subtly made an excuse to leave the Great Hall, praying no one noticed the quiver in his bottom lip or the way his voice wavered when he muttered. He quickly pushed through the large doors, stopping to take a shuttering breath.

It was March 27th.

It was his birthday.

Everyone seemed to have forgotten.

James tried to be understanding. He knew unimportant things tended to slip people’s minds, and everyone had so much going on. Sirius and Regulus had just fled Grimuald Place, taking up residence in the Potter home. Remus had a grim full moon and was still trying to heal. Merely two days ago Lily finally ended her friendship with Snape and it was taking a toll on her. Marlene and Dorcas were in the midst of an argument, and James had been mediating for them. His father had fallen ill, and his mother was busy taking care of him.

James understood that he wasn’t important right now. He began to think it over as he walked, coming to the conclusion that what was important right now was taking care of his friends, which he didn’t mind. He took the burning that spread to his throat and pushed it down whilst drying his damp eyes on the collar of his robes. He was almost to the Gryffindor common room when he heard footsteps quickly approaching behind him.

“James!” the wild-haired blonde called, stopping in front of him to catch her breath.

“Is everything okay Marlene?” James asked, plastering a fake smile on his face. The worried look that followed came naturally when he saw how out of breath she was.

“Marlene, do try to breathe please,” he jokingly chastised, moving a hand to her back in an effort to steady her.

“M’sorry. I ran the- the whole way here,” she shuddered out then hunched over, placing her hands on her knees. “You walk too fast.”

“I’m sorry.”

“No, no. Don’t apologize. Walk this way with me? I want to tell you about something,” she replied with a poorly hidden mischievous smile.

“Oh, um, alright.”

Once she was breathing properly again the two set off, slowly making their way around the corner. There was a long stretch of silence before Marlene spoke.

“Dorcas and I made up. I realized I was wrong.”

James stopped walking and looked at her.

“Who are you and what have you done to Marlene?”

“Oh shut it,” she giggled, playfully smacking his arm. “I only have you to thank. You always do so much for us. Sometimes I forget to thank you, and I am sorry for that.”

“Okay, seriously, where did you come from? Where is the real Marlene? You’re getting all sappy on me,” James joked again, this time with a real smile creeping onto his face.

“Hey, what can I say, you bring out the best in me. All of us really.”

James settled on just nodding, the words processing in his brain. They continued to walk in comfortable silence, soon returning to the Gryffindor common room portrait.

“James?” Marlene called while gently opening the passageway.

“Yeah?”

“Happy birthday.”

James was immediately welcomed by a room full of almost all the people he loved, a chorus of Happy Birthdays soaring around the room. His chest swelled with a warm bubbly feeling, and a face-splitting grin spread across his face. Sirius immediately had him in a bone-crushing embrace, damp eyes pressing into his neck.

“You have no idea how hard it was to hide this from you.”

“I can imagine,” James joked, smiling brightly at the other boy.

Remus approached them, looking quite pleased with himself.

“Happy birthday Prongs,” he called, moving to settle next to Sirius.

“Thank you Moony. I presume this was your idea?”

“Me? No. That person is waiting for you upstairs.”

“Oh?”

“Might want to head up there soon. They aren’t a big fan of waiting.”

“Remus who is-“ Sirius began, earning an elbow to the ribs. “Ow!”

“I’ll tell you later.”

James laughed at their antics and then headed to the dormitory stairs. He tried to go up slowly but anticipation got the best of him. He quickly arrived at the door, taking a moment to compose himself before gently swinging it open.

In the middle of the room stood Regulus with candles and various handmade decorations strewn around him. Under him was a blanket and basket, and his hands held a gift wrapped in newspaper.

James felt the air leave his lungs, stuck in a state of awe.

“Happy birthday James,” Regulus anxiously breathed, subtly playing with his silver rings.

James brightly beamed at him, making his way over and scooping him into a tight embrace.

“You remembered.”

“Of course, I remembered mon Cheri,” he breathed, holding James just as tight. “I spent all day working on this. I bribed Marlene with toffee to run all the way here to stop you.”

James chuckled wetly, the joy he was feeling trickling down his cheeks. Regulus pulled back slightly to cup the other boy's face in his hands, slowly wiping the tears with his thumbs.

“Thank you, Reg. This means the world to me.”

“I would give you the world,” Regulus reminded him, rolling onto the balls of his feet to reach up and plant a kiss on his lover’s forehead. “You shouldn’t stay here long. I wouldn’t want Sirius to find out about us on your birthday. I’m sure everyone wants to see the birthday boy, I had to threaten so many people to stay quiet. I even bribed your owl,” he continued, fishing a card out of his pocket.

James quickly opened it, scanning the lovely calligraphy that belonged to his mother.

“You even got Effie to keep this from me? What did you offer her, doing the dishes?”

Regulus stifled a laugh in his sleeve.

“I actually did.”

“Oh my God,” James blushed, hiding his head in his hands.

Regulus gently grasped his wrist and pulled his hands from his face.

“Let’s enjoy your picnic yeah? I heard you didn’t each much. I’m sorry to have caused you so much distress. You mentioned you always wanted a surprise party so I figured why not this year?” Regulus mentioned, a hint of anxiety in his voice.

“It’s perfect Regulus. This means so much to me. I’m okay, I promise,” James reassured.

“Perfect. I even got your favorite,” Regulus smiled as he knelt to begin unpacking the basket.

James plopped down beside him, sitting closer than reasonable for a picnic but neither boy cared.

“Those lovely crepes with the caramel and bananas?”

“Precisely.”

James faux cheered to emphasize his excitement earning a loud laugh from Regulus.

“Gods I love you.”

James froze. This was new territory.

“You do?”

“Of course I do. I know it’s soon but, there’s just, so much about you and, well, I’m not entirely sure how to articulate it but-“

“I love you too.”

The two boys smiled admiringly at each other. James decided at that moment this was the best birthday he had ever had.

y'all know i am a big big big fan of the prongsfoot friendship. and i even like a little blurry platonic we love each other so much it looks romantic but ISN'T moment, especially where these two are concerned, but come ON. it's always been wolfstar. it's always is wolfstar. it's always going to be wolfstar. controversially, i think that people can have different types of relationships with different people, and that doesn't necessarily make one more important than the other. generally, i hate arguments of who 'means more' to them. can't james and remus both mean equally as much to sirius in different ways? can't sirius and remus or sirius and regulus or whoever mean just as much to each other in different ways?? OR! if sirius DOES 'mean more' to james and vice versa, i don't think that adding romance inherently makes a relationship better or stronger. like, i'm the type of person that has always has and probably always will value my friendships more than romantic relationships, so i'm probably biased in that regard, but it pisses me off when people feel the need to automatically jump to "more than friends" WHY ISN'T FRIENDS ENOUGH! WHY ISN'T FRIENDS MORE THAN LOVERS! so, like, circling back to prongsfoot, they simply don't make more sense than wolfstar to me if we're talking about romance, BECAUSE THEY DON'T NEED TO BE ROMANTIC TO HAVE A VALID RELATIONSHIP!! i don't mind if people want to ship them romantically, do what you want fr, but idk, i'm of the opinion that sirius and james both have the capacity to care about other people as much as they care about each other, and i hate the trend of trying to simplify that. even codependent besties can have other relationships in their life LOL (i'm about to mention yaz, i need you guys to know how strong i am for waiting until now to mention yaz. it was burning inside me all this time.) but like fr yaz and i are crazy codependent and yeah i probably love them more than almost anyone in this world but that doesn't mean we don't also care about and have love for other people and i feel like that's how some people expect sirius and james to act?????

Major Spoilers under the cut.

Ok. This series is my ATYD. Maybe that’s controversial, but its the truth. Nothing Left is a series that chronicles the marauders years at hogwarts complete with a prologue, and a few epilogues after the main series. The final word count clocks in at 808,811 words. For reference, atyd is 526,969 words. So it’s definitely really freaking long.

Now -the characters

The core four marauders are there obviously, but Lily, Regulus, the girls, Effie and Fleamont, as well as some OCs are all major players in this fic. It is not solely the four marauders.

It’s important to note that in fics, that are long and chronicle the marauders at Hogwarts, sometimes they can fall into the trap of isolation. As in, marauders interactions with others outside the circle are limited/nil and or when they do interact with others or explore other friendships, theyre all together. Thats not the case here. James, Sirius, Peter, and Remus ARE quite codependent (sirius and james are the definition of co dependent lmao) but they are friends with other people and have different dynamics and personal struggles. They exist outside of each other is what im getting at.

I couldn’t begin to fully summarize all of the friendship dynamics in this fic because they’re so big and fleshed out but id like to highlight a few that i especially liked :

Lily and Remus. Remus is the first marauder that Lily warms up to, and the first she befriends. She tells him she loves him, and goes to bat against everyone, even Snape, for him. Snape is perhaps Lily’s biggest foil in-terms of relationships, and the fact that from the BEGINNING she threatened to hurt and even kill Severus if he hurt Remus, to me says alot. Lily and Remus are platonic soulmates. They confide in each other, challenge each other, and love and trust each other. I love their friendship in this fic

James and Sirius. OBVIOUSLY! They are insane. When i say they bring out the worst in each other i mean it. They both make the other more insane. But they couldn’t live without one another and its clear from the moment they met. Sirius and James are complicated. They kiss and sleep in each others beds, and at times it seems like they want to crawl into one another’s skin. They are the definition of co dependent. They have ups and downs and after the prank, they both fell apart. James was beyond furious at Sirius and stayed that way for months even after Remus had forgiven him. It tore them up, and they both fell into a deep depression and identity crisis with out the other and it was really heartbreaking to read. I love them tho.

Eli Wood and James. Idk if eli is canon? Either way. Eli is the first quidditch captain that James has at Hogwarts. And in alot of ways Eli serves as the backbone of James’s character. James absolutely worships Eli from the moment they meet. And after he graduates, Ei becomes an Auror. With James’s mom and dad working in and with the DMLE james happens to be there after a raid by the aurors gone wrong. James watches Eli’s dead body collapse on the floor of st mungos after being apparated back. This is the moment that shapes him. James carries Elis memory with him into adulthood, and never quite gets over him romantically. Eli is the raw side of James’s bleeding heart and i think it was beautiful.

Ok i have to talk about Lily. This lily is not canon lily and thats what i love about her. From day one, with her massive ginger curls, Lily is a spitfire. She values friendship and trust and loyalty, which is why she stays with Severus for so long. Lily is loud and academic and a bit of a bitch but shes 11 when we meet her. Who isnt a prick at 11 years old?? Lily is naturally wound so tight that its only when she starts to Really hang out with the marauders, do her walls come down and she relaxes. Lily deals woth so much blood purity racism, and i loved reading her struggle with it, as she tries to decide between forgiveness or revenge, kindness or remembering the crime. Her Arc with Snape is huge and involves blood racism.

This Lily likes crystals and fags (this word is used ALOT for cigarettes, like so much) and the beatles, and she is NOT James potters little wife and she is not something to be fought over. She gets tattoos and does coke with Sirius, and fights bullies and absolutely drags James Potter over the rocks. And i love her.

Ok this is getting really long so a bulleted list of things i liked!

- James and Professor McG. She cares for him like a second mother and i teared up reading them

- Remus and the big bad lycanthropy. Remus struggles alot in this fic, and theres alot of aspects to it but i will say i appreciated how the author included him using a crutch and having limited mobility. I thought that was very realistic.

- effie and fleamont. They were very 3 dimensional and their love for James and Sirius was tangible. I sobbed when they died. I liked how James had his struggles with them and they weren’t just plot perfect parents. They struggled but they TRIED. They loved much and were loved much

Regulus. He is an older sister in a 15 year olds body. The trauma he endures is crazy. Not only does he get punished (tortured) by his parents, Sirius does as well, and Sirius begs him to take away his memory, so now regulus carries the burden alone. His whole arc was heartbreaking but it came around on the end.

Ok im done for now. This was a massive fic and i wish i knew who the author was. But i highly recommend it.

SO, yes, regulus was always going to just - show up unannounced. i’ve had a few ppl ask me about how he knew where sirius lives and it’s gonna be explained in the next chapter, but like, yeah - he’s had a weird few years while sirius has been gone. AND the mesh dress might make a comeback later xx

we will def see more of both of them - more lily than mary, bc her friendship & solidarity with sirius is so important. trans ppl seeing each other and just - knowing, is a thing i’ve experienced a lot and it just feels so good. to be seen in a way that matters like that. their friendship is really special & they’ll get to hang out more!

remus is down so bad like - we’re in sirius’s head, so we don’t know what’s going on with remus but like he is also starin at his phone all day, and leaving for work early to see sirius and has already told his parents all about sirius. they are so mutually into each other.

i didn’t want this fic to get heavy - at the core of it, it’s a lighthearted little romcom - but it was also important to me to talk about the day-to-day things that we deal with, and how sirius is navigating that.

to be honest, i literally just decided that last minute and stuck it in bc it felt weird that i never specify where the fic is taking place. there’s no real reason for it other than my wife loves seattle and wants us to settle down there someday!

kinda upset on how you didn’t develop peters relationships at all part of why the betrayal hurts so much is because of how loved pete was if the mauraders era is about friendship why did you leave out one of the most important characters?

Hello lovely! So yeah, I mean, I've admitted before that I think Peter is a weak part of this story. However, I also think that there are friends who drift apart the older they get and end up just hanging out together out of habit, and for me, given how Peter acts later on in life, that makes the most sense for him. I don't see him as being particularly loved (that is purely my opinion though, it is not the only interpretation just mine). However, I do think it's a little unfair to say that I don't develop his character at all. I do give him a POV so you can see his attachment and even borderline obsession with James, the way he feels pushed aside when Sirius comes into the picture, and how that leads to him looking for something else to fill that kind of emotional gap or to provide him with that emotional validation - that feeling like he is the most important. And how Voldemort plays into that to get him to switch sides. I also have some important moments like the conversation between Peter and Remus at the end of chapter 39 to sort of show how Peter and Regulus actually kind of see the war the same way. Or moments like in chapter 2 where Peter is the one to come through with the healing charm for Sirius, to show that he really was there for them sometimes. But here's the thing for me, Sirius and Remus would never have gone over to Voldemort, would never have betrayed James and Lily the way that Peter did the night they died and in the years that come after when he helps Voldemort return to power. So Peter's friendship has to be different. The quality of it cannot be the same or the betrayal makes no sense to me. He just can't be as genuinely close to them. Clearly does not love them as fiercely as they love each other. So I wrote it differently. Again, I'm not saying Peter in this story couldn't do with some more development because I think he definitely could, but at the same time, I think the way he fades into the background a bit is accurate to the way I think he needed to fade into the background for James, Sirius and Remus in order for them to not realize that he was the spy. This is fully just my interpretation though. You can write this story, and these characters, however you want.

I think it's important to portray friendship and how mental illness and or trauma affects friendships etc, and how it affects everyone around the person with the trauma and or mental illness yk? like not only one person is affected, friends, family, teachers, peers are affected too (although not as much as the person going through it. this is still an exploration of trauma and mental illness in friendship, but also in the self (and since its in Sirius's pov, in sirius)

as for Snape, he can suck a dick. he gets detention but sirius makes lily promise not to tell remus. or anyone (she finds it humiliating, lily just tells them "there's been an incident"). it does come out though and that fucker gets what he deserves :D

How do you think Sirius and James’ relationship is viewed/understood by Lily? And how does it affect her relationship with James and vice versa?

Hey anon! So I feel like it’s important to start by mentioning the way that I engage with HP in general, which is sort of blending canon and interpretation. I essentially take characterisation and dynamics very very seriously but outside of that as long as you stay true to characters and their dynamics, I think specific events and circumstances are kind of free game? Hence why I’m so into j/s, because it’s such a fundamental aspect of James & Sirius as individuals in canon (whereas I don’t feel James and Lily are fundamental to each other’s characters? We just know they’re married). I feel like reading my blog people might think I’m trying to argue that it IS canon but my stance is more that “canon presents it in such a way that it would work” - which canon doesn’t establish for say remus/sirius in my opinion but it does for james/sirius.

Which brings me to my point about how I read james/lily (and what their relationship is like), which is that I find the romance there to be so vastly lacking that I find it easier and more interesting to read them as platonic, and I actually really like them as besties/bros - there’s a lot of potential there. A lot of james/lily requires you to work backwards from what you know about them as a pair which is:

they argued in Snape’s Worst Memory and Lily seems disgusted by James who says he likes her but goes out of his way to torment her best friend

Lily gives him the time of day when “James deflated his head a bit”

they get married

It’s very functional and unromantic BUT I think the things that you can work backwards from do support a nurturing friendship. The old Jily trope is that they get to know each other as Head Boy and Girl which is a fair shout. Harry has no grandparents to take him in when they die so we know that they both lose both of their parents at a young age and I think they would be valuable to each other in understanding that. I also think it’s interesting how Lily apparently has a thing for like, horrible boys. She’s friends with Snape for a long time, then she just sort of moves onto a different flavour of horrible in James, supposedly, and her relationship with James extends to accepting and loving the also horrible Sirius. (My fav iteration of Lily and Horrible Boy is Lily/Regulus but nobody asked that.) So even when I’m talking james/lily within canon, they’re based on this ultimately platonic dynamic that I think canon gives us, which is ironic because it’s james and sirius’ strong platonic closeness in canon that made me take that leap to reading them romantically, but w/e I do what I want. tl;dr: a long-winded way to acknowledge my bias.

Within canon, it’s clear that Lily loved Sirius as her friend separate from James, as we can see in the letter she writes to him in DH. I actually think James and Sirius’ friendship would remind her a lot of her early friendship with Snape, but she’d look at it more like “this is what we would have been like if he hadn’t been a Death Eater” or maybe “this is what a real friendship is like” :( But rather than being jealous I feel like she’d be very…supportive of James and Sirius’ relationship and happy to see it thriving. Similarly, if we’re talking canon, I think she’d see it through the lens of “they’re like brothers” and be reminded of what her relationship could have been like with Petunia and she’d be pleased to see a healthy friendship/brotherly bond.

However I can’t mention James and Sirius without talking about how their bond transcends other friendships in the series so I do think maybe just how close they are might come as a shock to her. She’d have seen them being close all through school but from the outside I’m sure that would look like a typical friendship, especially if she’d had Snape as her own best friend for so long, but coming into their fold and maybe noticing how in sync they are and how strongly they respect each other and take each other’s word would be like an “oh, wow, right” moment for her that could even be a bit isolating and lonely and a point of comparison for how James acts with Sirius vs with her. But, again, I think that level of loyalty and trust would seem like a positive thing to Lily having been shunned by her sister as soon as she was different and being publicly called a slur and humiliated by her friend who had known her longer than he’d known the dark magic crowd he was getting into.

In terms of affecting her relationship with James, I think Lily would just throw herself into getting to know Sirius in her own right so she could join in lmao, based on how friendly and familiar she is with Sirius I think that’s likely. I also think she would meet James and Sirius on their level more naturally than anyone else trying to get in with them would. Lily has shades of cruelty like they do, she knows exactly what to say to hurt both Petunia and Snape when she wants to, and idk I can see that working in her favour with them, it would align her with them vs say Remus who would make James and Sirius “feel bad about it sometimes”. At the end of SWM, Lily joins in with them and uses the nickname they’ve been bullying her friend with for years, which I think supports that.

Based on her friendship with Snape, I think she’d be at peace with their closeness, maybe a bit wistful about not quite having that herself but being happy to be part of something. I wish we knew more about Lily’s friends - we hear she’s popular, but we only know for certain she was close friends with Snape and some random girls she’s with at the start of SWM. None of her friends (except Snape) appear in the series. Nobody talks to Harry about Lily except his teachers and Sirius and Remus barely, because it’s via discussing James, and Petunia offers nothing. I think it’s really sad but JKR is pretty shit at fleshing out female characters anyway.

Lily evidently understands James and Sirius’ bond as like an emotional necessity, not to sound dramatic, because her letter to Sirius is very explicit in being like James is struggling and it’s because he’s not seeing you, please come and visit. That said, I don’t like James/Sirius where like Lily just puts up with them being together behind her back and ignores it because she loves James, and I don’t like Sirius/James/Lily as a romantic threesome because I don’t think Lily gets much out of that to be honest. A fundamental part of James and Sirius is how they’re paired up in the text so on a romantic level that translates into a codependent, lowkey obsessive, one-true-love kind of thing to me and there’s not room for anyone else. Non-monogamous relationships are valid ofc but it’s not something I read as particularly functional with James and Sirius being the way they are.

Sirius hates wearing a tie and at least a handful of his detentions are for being out of uniform.

Marlene also hates ties but after getting a detention for not having hers, she stole everyone’s ties and turned up to class wearing at least 10. She got another detention but McGonagall cracked the smallest of smile.

Pandora draws on her shoes and trousers. And on Barty. Really any surface that will sit still for her.

Mary embroiders. Her favorite is putting little lions on all her uniform shirts. She steals Lily’s shirts and puts flowers on the cuffs.

Long rant ahead

I joined the Marauders fandom in 2020 (thanks to October Jily month and Dorcas) and had a lot of fun that year getting to learn more about the characters and the ships, but I honestly think I’m done.

I thought this would be a fandom where people could stan and ship whoever they wanted without being attacked for it, but all the fandom seems to care about nowadays is Regulus and WolfStar and if you like anything else, it’s “shame on you”. I feel like there used to be more variety of who people stanned from the early days of the Marauders fandom up to 2021.

I’m too afraid to even make edits of Jily, Remadora, Blackinnon, or Remus x Dorcas out of fear that Jegulus and WolfStar stans might attack me over shipping “bORinG stRaiGHt sHiPs”.

And the way a lot of them do that thing fans of gay ships do where they ship the female character that “gets in the way of their gay ship” with another female character in order to get her out of the way is not lost on me. Like yeah, you can ship MaryLily and Jegulus, but you don’t gotta be an asshole and hate on Jily’s relationship and Jily stans for simply SHIPPING THEM! Or make up lies about Lily to make it seem like she’s a bad person that is undeserving of James and his love!

Also I’ve seen so many people in the fandom be racist, anti-Semitic, and fatphobic, but then draw fanart of the character they are being shitty about for clout. Dorcas, black-Remus, plus sized-Lily, Desi-James, the list goes on. I mean, this fandom STAYS either using Dorcas as a prop for the white characters or completely forgetting she exists.

I remember when some people were rightfully getting called out for fancasting Dorcas as white in 2021 (aka years after her official character portrait showed she was black) and several Marauders editors I followed on IG at the time were like “Let people fancast who they want! Stop being such an activist! Worry about something more important! Go donate to BLM or a charity or something!”.

I was just sitting there like “…Now what the fuck does someone wanting you to fancast A BLACK CHARACTER AS BLACK have to do with being an activist?!” And don’t even get me started on how plenty of fans will ignore the fact that Dorcas is dark skinned and Peter is plus-sized cuz they’d rather fancast light skinned actors for Dorcas and skinny actors for Peter! “Oh, I just don’t see them that way” Well you better start, bitch!

Also y’all can ship what you want and create your own friendships headcanons, but please know that in canon, Dorcas and James would NOT date/be friends with mfs like Regulus and the rest of the Slytherin gang! I truly hate how the fandom turned them into misunderstood, precious, UWU babies that can do no wrong when Death Eaters are literally allegories for white supremacists! Like do y’all honestly think James would fall in love with someone that would call Lily a slur?! 🙄 And somebody please free my babygirl Dorcas from clutches of Regulus, Barty, and Evan stans! If she’s supposed to be dating Marlene, who is one of Lily’s best friends in canon, wtf makes you think Dorcas would be friends with the people who’d call her girlfriends best friend a slur?! 😭

Anyways, I’m done here. Last years Jily month was pretty boring anyway cuz everyone hates them all of a sudden and Dorcas is always gonna be forever unappreciated by the fandom, so yeah.

back to my regularly scheduled chapter reactions. i have given up on attempting to talk about the other 4 so here’s my big takeaways: 1: regulus coming back was somehow anticlimactic but also perfect? and that seems very him. 2. remus and sirius are idiots. in love idiots. that’s all. 3. DORCASSSSS omg!!! so excited for this. 4. i love lily, marlene, and remus’ dynamic a lot. they just love each other so much it makes me feel so happy and warm.

anyway. back to this chapter. this might be my favorite chapter of the whole fic. i laughed, i cried, i felt all the feels!

james is so nice it makes me actually sick. where are these men in real life?? wtf?? he’s just so kind and understanding and UGH. god. so annoying

i just love lily and marlene so much. they’re both so REAL and so woman, it makes me feel so seen. i gasped out loud when lily said what she did to marlene, and it just shows what a strong and mature relationship they have that marlene is so understanding of her and forgives her so quickly, i just love love love their relationship. and the exchange where lily says “if i have the baby i’ll ruin his whole life” and marlene just says “and what about yours?” CRIED. very much cried. it was just so so lovely.

and then right after w lily’s conversation with her mum?? saying she can do this all by herself?? cried again. independent women! independent lily! so fucking important to me.

reiterating how much i love marlene remus and lily’s friendship. their little scene just made me so happy and smiley that it’s not even a question to support and help and raise the baby. they’re just a little found family!! it’s so fucking cute!!!

the cat call scene made me CACKLE. so good. such a good addition to the sappy chapter, i was genuinely laughing out loud.

lily telling james🥹🥹🥹🥹 it’s fine, i’m fine. i cried AGAIN during this scene. james is just perfect. the perfect man. i swear no one does jily the way you do jily, they are just so lovely.

this chapter was so perfect, and i cant wait for the drama of next chapter!! xxx
