thinking about how Ruby was presented to us as the light of her family.

when the goblins went back in time and got her instead of Lulu, the present of her family was dark, gloomy and unhappy and it was showed to us in the colors and lighting of the scenes after that, which were very different from the setting we first saw. she is the literal sunshine of her family. the light that changed a woman who was "fostering" kids for money into someone who adopted them and cared for them as her own and kept their pictures on her fridge so she could remember them every day. changed an old lady from sleeping all day with no interest of the world around her into someone who is charismatic and happy and makes jokes about tea.

in the very episode of her introduction we already know how much of an effect she has on the people around her and how important she is, how much of a positive and light energy she has.

not the first time i've brought up "agreements like these are built on trust. and forgive me for saying, but i don't trust a single one of you." in relation to summer's "trust me." but uh. what prompts that from raven is actually cinder's "so, are you with us, or against us?"

there's no neutrality within this war—not when you're in the know.

for unknown reasons, raven had already left ozpin's inner circle and while summer was acting on her own—it was a summer secret, not an oz one—, based on ruby's speech and salem's response to it, she was still looking to end this war once and for all.

the inner circle functions with great secrecy, but also great suspicion; even qrow, who no doubt had proven his loyalty over and over again, was thought compromised for being out of contact for weeks.

raven could have been out of contact for years, if she hadn't made her reasons for leaving clear beforehand—and even if she had made it clear she wanted nothing to do with ozpin's cause anymore, that still doesn't count out the possibility she switched over to salem.

so, are you with us, or against us? summer was already pretty upset with raven if the shoulder check is anything to go by, so i wonder if this suspicion and uncertainty, if this no neutrality stance played a role there.

either you're with us, or you're the enemy.

and raven wanted no part in any of it... though perhaps an exception could be made if it meant ending the war, once and for all.

well most importantly to me, the panel art of the latest upd8 was absolutely spectacular!!!!

#tuna.txt #upd8 spoilers #i thought the writing was interesting but maybe could have gone on a little longer #i think kanaya should have gotten to speak a little more #im not crazy about jades characterization in. all of 2 #i think it this they did better-ish but shes still not the jade i know #also i think the.... cringe? of candy is based in that i think candy is supposed to reflect maybe the worst possible outcome for earth c?#idk. im not sure how to word it but i mainly read 2 for its panels lolz #how do i put it.... its like the fallout 3 of homestuck?#there are lots of aspects i actually like about it!#but in comparison to its predecessor i think theres a lot 2 doesnt understand about hs proper?#someone out there probably knows a more eloquent and thought out way of saying it!#also i actually really like ruby. shes such a little punk and reminds me of 13 year old rose #i saw somebody else point out that they see candy rose as rose at her worst #which i think furthers my idea that candy is meant to represent most of the cast at their worst #or being effected severely by the others being at the worst #i guess its not a horrible way to rewrite lore reasons for the kind of misogynist air of making jade rose and jane be at their worst #to ME the true post canon is kittyquest lol but 2 presents some *interesting* character avenues!
