i have a really convoluted theory about will graham re: water symbolism
#in the tags because i'm self conscious.#basically i think the ocean represents birth/rebirth/death + rivers represent gradual change/erosion in will's story#AND backstory ..... most of which is speculation. but hear me out#probably born by the ocean -> traveled upriver as a kid -> became a cop in new orleans but got shot + disillusioned (symbolic death)#moved to virginia near his wolf trap river (gradual change up until the beginning of the series)#then the river motif in s1 and s2 (gradual erosion)#then mizumono (ocean of blood) leads directly into will crossing the entire fucking ocean. death/rebirth#at the hands of hannibal#but that rebirth didn't do the trick obviously because he ends up back in wolf trap (to his river!) and eventually in maine (?)#i also find it interesting that we first see molly and walter coming up from fishing in the lake as if will has tasked them with#shouldering his stagnation (because lake -> stagnation)#+ THEN the series ends back at the ocean. which is why i think that the wrath of the lamb is a definitive death AND rebirth for will#regardless of whether he actually survived (...... i think he did)#regardless it would be a true death + rebirth this time because it was his own decision. woohoo autonomy !#....................................#who's to say whether any of this was intentional in canon .... probably not i'm totally reaching but i still think it's#fun to explore AND adds more goodies to my will graham backstory vault#ok. hope this was coherent LOL it's been cooking for months and months

Gonna need to vent a little bit about Dune 2. It was a particular experience in a sense that I wasn't prepared for it. Some points. Big big spoilers so it's under the cut !
- The treatment of Chani, her adaptation puts me in a bit of an odd spot, but I love it regardless. On one hand, I waited the entire movie for Chani's conversion. I fully expected that despite her open rebelliousness & disbelief in prophecies, especially if that prophecy involved a stranger taking control of her people, she would cave. She would become a believer. She would be swayed by her education & the power of the Bene Gesserit prophecy, the power of Paul. Their relationship would change for the best & the very worse : they would be more united than ever, but she would no longer be an equal & a lover, but a follower, a wife, and him her god. The first movie showed her as the face of the future holy war, with her hair visually likened to the "unquenchable fire" Paul saw in his dreams. Besides, she's like that in the book ! For her to leave her former self and resorb into the more "docile" (for lack of a better word) version of the book would be like a hint, a commentary.
But she doesn't. This dream Paul has never comes to pass. Chani no longer is the face of Fremen blond loyalty towards the Mahdi & of their bloody fanaticism. In fact, she more & more echoes another vision Paul had of Chani : the one where she kills him. The one where he is her ennemy & she is his. Because as time passes & the moment of Chani's conversion is constantly delayed, you realize they are both lovers & ennemies. Chani deeply loves Paul but knows he's bad for her people. She knows that as a god, she loses him, because her faith would never be in anything but someone from her people, who believes in the equality principles she does - not an Emperor people bow to and who marries women not for love but for strategical matches. The absence of any verbal reconciliation & reassurance from Paul after he literally announces his future wedding to another woman means everything. The scene where he acts as a god in the South Sietch is terrifying in that sense : Chani is losing the man she loves to the messiah he's becoming. So in the end, she goes back to her true master, not Paul the New Emperor, but the desert & Shai-Hulud (evoking Lyet Kynes' words in the previous movie). Plus the dislike she has of her secret name Sihara because it's linked to a prophecy, when Paul calls her mainly that in the book after she's become his mate, is interesting.
- The quote about letting fear pass through you until only you remain kind of has sad & sinister vibe once this one is done, because both Jessica & Paul go through the ultimate test, the "death and rebirth" in the south through the the water of life, & both come back completely changed, their old self stripped, in a sense, ready to fit into their new roles, to manipulate & take control of the Fremen & wage a destructive holy war. Jessica is now the one representing the figure Paul follows in his dream, leading to atrocities, instead of Chani previously. "Only I will remain" is not true in their case - they are both haunted by their genetic inheritance, transformed by their access to the memories of the countless generations that came before them.
- Gurney Halleck coming back to Paul, encouraging him to take control of the Fremen & get revenge against the Harkonnens who not only are the people who killed Leto & many of Gurney's friends on Arrakis - but also the cruel people who enslaved & hurt him before that ; and the all the more cruel fact & statement that Jessica & Paul are Harkonnens, that what remains of house Atreides is another branch of the Harkonnens, that they are now two faces of the same coin. That, as Paul state, they will survive as Harkonnens, supposedly through Harkonnen means & brutality (and not otherwise), when they wage the New Holy War. Gurney unknowingly cheers on & encourages a second House Harkonnen, thinking he's avenging the Atreides.

Hello! Due to a change in my life I've become quite busy, but I'll try and get some pacs out every once in a while. Also working on a few projects (with and without people), so look out for that! I've wanted to do this one for some weeks now, but it's just short messages that your guides or angels wanted to deliver to you, pretty straight-forward haha.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Left → Right / Pile 1 → Pile 4)
Decks Used: Trickster's Journey, Tarot Familiars, Arcana of Astrology, featuring Sea Melodies & Language of Flowers
Disclaimer | Pinned | Tip Jar | Paid Readings
Tumblr media
Pile One
Cards: X of Cups, The Lovers, Trickster Rx, II of Wands, IV of Swords, Ace of Wands, Ascendant, Pallas Athena
I can’t ignore the song that popped up. It reminded me of fan-art that a friend made decades ago for hxh; it was for the chimera ant arc from Killua’s ‘perspective’ and how, despite how much pain each side was going through, he would stay by his side as long as he could.
This pull is hinting at you being in a position of looking at your life and the possibilities ahead of you, but not authentically. Resembles someone quadruple checking their path or getting someone to tell them what to do with their life. The message here is not ‘just go out and live your life’ — while that is inherently true, it’s more along the lines to have a breather and take it day by day. They want you to find yourself, and through finding yourself you will find your path. I don’t know why I keep wanting to bring in The Magician, but this pile has undercurrents of its energy as well. It’s not so much manifestation, but it’s not giving up on your dreams or your desires — they’re on pause until you can figure yourself out. I wanted to cry as soon as Shake It Out started playing, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a lot of pent up frustration here. There is a rebirth coming for you guys, the timeline is going to be different for all of you. However you cant be born anew if you aren’t being authentic. Some advice/help might come from friends and family, but it’s all about exploring externally and internally. You might have been searching for this for quite some time...and honestly no amount of astrology or pick a cards will give you a definite answer, but spending time with yourself and figuring out what brings you joy will give you the direction that you need. You might be annoyed hearing this, but don’t rush the process and enjoy the ride, Sure Fire Winners is your end result after this frustrating trip.
Songs: Figure 8 – Ellie Goulding, Twin Machines – DBMK, What We Life For – American Authors, Shake It Out – Florence + The Machine
Tumblr media
Pile Two
Cards: Death, VII of Wands, Wheel, III of Coins, Queen of Cups, VII of Wands, Eros, Pallas Athena, Third House
Interesting set of cards. I’m also having difficult describing your energy. You’re not being stubborn or combative, but you feel like people aren’t giving you the time of day or listening to you, which causes you to be stubborn or a solitary individual which makes people believe you’re not co-operative — is the best way I can describe it. A little of it feels reminiscent of being a push-over, but that’s sprinkled in?
Regardless, good news is on the way, but you have to meet it halfway. This is a learning experience for you, whatever it might be (work or higher learning). It’s definitely one of those lessons that will keep repeating until you learn it, so pay attention when it pops up. You need to sort what topics or issues you legitimately care about and refuse to budge on, and what can be sacrificed. This is a key element when working with others, because it’s a quality that is often balanced when dealing with others. People seek you out because you bring something to the table for them, but if you’re going to be stubborn or not shine to the point that they can simply find anyone, then you lose out. That’s where your double Seven of Wands comes in. This could manifest in people either questioning why they’re working with you, commissioning you, or you not budging for what you want to keep within a project. This could also be you proving some people wrong? Either way, it’s a message to stand your ground and not be overwhelmed by those trying to knock you down. There’s also a high chance that there will be a nurturing mentor to help you through this or they will give you some advice that you’ll carry with you long after this. With the owl staring at me on the Queen of Cups I’m moved to think this’ll be a figure that comes in. I think they’ll probably remind you of third house themes which is to balance listening as much as you’re talking. Sometimes what you’re so frustrated by or trying to figure out will be answered before you even have to ask it. Or maybe someone has a good idea that you haven’t thought of and you should give it a shot before brushing it off. The main message here is collaboration and working with people, knowing when to stand up for things and to just let things go, and becoming a new person after this. The skeleton in Death is holding an old skull and even on the Seven of Wands it’s a little chick that just hatched; there’s a lot of beginnings after this uncomfortable period but you will learn a lot about yourself and possibly learn a lot of new skills! (From all the songs, maybe this is your first job?)
Songs: Something Good Can Work – Two Door Cinema Club, It’s Time – Imagine Dragons

Pile Three
Cards: X of Swords, Page of Swords Rx, X of Wheel Rx, Empress Rx, Queen of Wands Rx, VII of Wands Rx, The Sun Rx, Mars, Waning Gibbous Moon, Eighth House
It’s pretty obvious where you are right now, so I’m not going to get into it — I don’t believe you want me rehashing it either. You are being urged to rebuild your confidence little by little and push for what you want in your situation. I think a good portion of this though is sharing how you feel. Being comfortable with expressing your emotions or your darker issues with others instead of trying to hold onto all of this. It doesn’t feel like a shadow trait, more like bad news/a situation, but you need to lean on someone to help you. I’ve been re-watching Regular Show and this is similar to the episode where Skips was ignoring his stress killing him and everyone had to force him to deal with it and let them help. Usually I see The Sun reversed as shining too bright to the point of exhaustion or just being a little gloomy but it’s resembling The Star reversed, which worries me. You just need to take it slow and work on yourself, but absolutely you need to rely on others and don’t feel like you’re too much or you’re not meeting standards that society or you set for yourself. We all need breaks or we all get tired, it’s impossible to be in top shape all the time, so give yourself some time to get back up there. Yes, sitting in your sadness is not helpful, but you need to be able to go through it’s motions so you know what you’re purging in the first place. I’m going to pull some more clear advice/upbeat cards for you guys:
Reflect, Optimism, Azalea, Jonquil
Reflect: Peer into the endless ocean and see what peers back  Optimism: After each rainstorm, there will be clear skies  Azalea, Temperance: Find balance and be centered  Jonquil, Power: Take hold of what you know is yours
Songs: Fall to Pieces – Avril Lavigne, Love Die Young – Eric Nam, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough – Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, Grip! – Every Little Thing
Tumblr media
Pile Four
Cards: VI of Wands, Strength Rx, IV of Wands, VII of Cups Rx, King of Pentacles, The Hierophant, Solar Eclipse, Chiron, Leo
Experiencing impostor syndrome right now, or not wanting the spotlight on you despite...accomplishing something worth celebrating honestly. I’m weirdly taking strength quite literally, like feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders and being crushed by it. The imagery looks as such and its between two celebratory cards — or ones that can show being celebrated or being in high regards in immediate surroundings. I know you want to, but don’t run back to a ‘shell’ or what’s safe. Try and make new safe spaces or make a routine to soothe yourself, because you should embrace your wins and take pride in what you did. I don’t know what you guys did, but more opportunities are coming your way, so embrace the new and change. It might keep coming or it might just be some fun new experiences for this time in your life. Make sure to tread carefully and whatever you say yes to; you want to say yes to. Don’t just agree to whatever. There are signs of looking for a community or mentor to lean on or stick by, and it’s encouraged as well. There’s a mix of taking on this new energy because it’ll be good for you or your future (experiences or just in general), and grounding yourself because you’re in a flight reflex right now. This might be due to a past scar, because the wolves look as if they’re protecting something but ready to hurt me, and I love wolves as well as this card. Either way, you should be celebrating with everyone else the milestone you accomplished, being mindful of your next steps, being open to change, and I’m wishing you the best.
Songs: When the Levee Breaks – A Perfect Circle, Raging (ft. Kodaline) – Kygo, Have Faith In Me – A Day To Remember

That master post of She-Hulk recommendations. When you have the time could you make one like that for Wonder Woman? I'd like to start exploring her books but don't know where to start. I'd be grateful for the help.
Tumblr media
GLADLY
This is gonna be long I'm sorry.
Wonder Woman by Geroge Perez.
Tumblr media
Arguably the best WW run. Rebooted the character and re-established her for the "modern" age. Hands down my personal fav comic of her and Perez's (RIP King) gets the character and his art is *chefs kiss*.
Wonder Woman by William Messner-Loebs
Tumblr media
Admittedly not as good as it came after Perez, but its a fun and decent run on Wondy. She goes to space, works in fast food and lost the title of Wonder Woman and introduced Artimes. Tis gud.
Wonder Woman by John Byrne
Tumblr media
This is one of the weakest runs on WW. Byrne's take on Wondy isn't great nor is it terrible. Tho his art is great and he introduces Cassie Sandmark and Hippolyta taking up the WW mantle for a bit so its worth the read if your a Wondy fan.
Wonder Woman by Phil Jimenez
Tumblr media
In my opinion one of the most underrated runs. Jimenez really has a good voice for Wondy and of course his art is fantastic.
Wonder Woman by Greg Rucka
Tumblr media
Often regarded as the best modern run of Wonder Woman. I tend to dis-agree because the run gets de-railed by Infinite Crisis and its also the run that had Wondy snap Max Well's neck which was handled really well in the comic, but it ruined online discussion and perception of WW for years to come. Regardless it is really good.
Wonder Woman by Gail Simone
Tumblr media
Pretty good stuff by the hit and miss Simone. One of the better books she wrote. Simone once again really gets the character resulting in a great WW run.
Wonder Woman by Brian Azzarello
Tumblr media
Now we gettin into the iffy stuff. Wonder Woman was not treated well in the New52 often written horribly out of character. Now you'd think that would carry over to her solo, but surprisingly it doesn't. Even though this book make a ton of major changes to Wondy like origin, making her the God of War (which I hate btw) and being the first book to really solidify giving WW a sword Brian Azzarello writes Wondy on point.
The book is a very different take on Wondy, but Wondy herself stays true to the core of her character for the most part. Coupled with great art and legitimately great stories ingrained in greek mythology I can indeed recommend it.
And since 2016 the book has been completely retconned so you can read this as an unintentional elseworlds story.
Wonder Woman by Meredith Finch
Tumblr media
NO
Unless you want to see the Amazons be rapists who kill infants.
Wonder Woman Rebirth (AKA the return of Rucka)
Tumblr media
DC Rebirth oh how wasted you were.
Anyway Greg Rucka came back to Wondy essentially to clean house after the New52. He wrote the first 4 volumes and there the only ones worth reading really. You get some top tier art and a decent re-telling of Wondy's origin.
Wonder Woman by G.Willow Wilson and Mariko Tamaki
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Read these if you want to be put to sleep.
Okay there not that boring, but there pretty average if not below average. If you want to read Wondy comics tread water then read these.
Wonder Woman by Becky Cloonan and Michael W. Conrad
Tumblr media
The current run on wondy as of right now. Aaaaaand its pretty good. After Wondy's death in Death Metal (don't worry about that she's fine) she in the afterlife in Valhalla? Interdimensional shenanigans ensue. It takes a bit to get going and the writing for Wondy is off a bit, but the art and premise is solid. It also had Wonder Woman's first even in decades called Trial of the Amazons which was also decent.
Wonder Woman Earth One
Tumblr media
HOO BOY this ones a doozy. WW Earth One is a controversial book to say the least. Its a complete re-telling of Wondy like we've never seen before. It uses themes from Wondy's roots like bondage and the battle of the sexes and love. This book is not for everyone. Your either gonna love it (like me) or absolutely hate it. Its a book that one can very easily miss the point of.
Grant Morrison has a very distinct and passionate take on the character and like many of his books are thought provoking and interesting. I mean the book ends with a literal war with the sexes.
I do think the book is worth reading if your a Wondy fan. It might not be your cup of tea, but at the very least it should be a interesting read on a very unique take on Wondy. Also the art by Yanick Paquette is hands down some of the best art for Wondy ever. He's become my favorite artist for her. He draws her beautiful, strong and sexy.
The Brave and the Bold: Batman and Wonder Woman
Tumblr media
A team up with Wondy and Brucey. With some cool mythological shit and some dope ass art by Liam Sharp this is an easy recommend.
Wonder Woman/Conan
Tumblr media
A fun crossover between the barbarian and the Amazon. This was a few years before Conan went back to Marvel so technically this is an unofficial DC/Marvel crossover.
Sensational Comics Wonder Woman
Tumblr media
This is gonna be a hard pass. Sensational comics should've been a companion book like Action and Detective, but instead DC made it into a anthology book with many different creative teams. It was also digital only. (yeah DC doesn't give Wondy any respect)
Because of this the stories range from good to absolute trash with some of the shittiest art you've ever seen published by the big two. Save the headache and don't bother.
Future State Immortal Wonder Woman
Tumblr media
Future State was meh, but we got a decent Wondy book out of it. Jen Bartel's art make sit worth it.
That's about it. There's a few other books I haven't read yet like Wonder Woman Evolution and her silver and golden age stories. But these should get you going.
Happy readings.

Duuuuude, dragons are just so freaking cool, with how flexible there are with how they can be written.
They could be just savage, rampaging monsters, who just so happen to have a habit of collecting precious gems and metals.
They could be intelligent, morally complexing thinking beings. Who just so happen to have a habit of collecting precious gems and minerals.
Sometimes, they're a little mix or both! Intelligent creatures, who just take the piss out of rampaging around and terrorizing the poor peasants….. and may or may not just so happen to have a habit of collecting precious gems and minerals. Lol.
Sorry for that little tangent there, as I'm sure you could never, ever could have guessed(/s/j) I'm something of a dragon fan, eheh.
Regardless, I saw your new OC, and I just wanted to give Lian a grand old welcome to the.... universe! I found your lore for them interesting, and I look forwards to how you potentially may expand upon them in the future!
I unfortunately am going to have to skip the dragon boy, as much as it fucking pains me to do so as I'm planning on saving up for Jingliu when her banner pops. Or maybe Topaz, she's on the table too. I'll definitely try to make a grab for the other High Elders when we start visiting the other Xianzhou ships. Honestly all the High Elders have such sick titles. Imbibitor Lunae, Caelorum Venti, Glaciator Marum, all them are so dope!
Aaaaand, I saw the announcement of you opening up requests for HSR, and oh-hoh-hoh, I got an idea featuring the found family of all time (the Astral Express crew) that you may find interesting!
As well as maybe another genshin one, but I imagine you already have a lot of those, so I'll hold off and let you work through what you already have!
and finally, before I take my leave for the (at the time of me sending you this ask) night, I leave you with food for thought. If you were a god in a fantasy setting (whatever one you find yourself particularly musing with when reading this ask), what would your domain be. As in, what would you be the 'God of'?
-🐉Anon
SOOO TRUE hi beloved <3
dragons are so fascinating and have soo much potential. like. they COULD be feral and a little violent and deeply in touch with their more animalistic instincts, especially DRAGON dragons, where they aren't a humanoid species. or they could also be very gentle and intelligent! just a huge gentle giant who is consciously aware that it has the capacity to be destructive and therefore does its best not to be <3 or they could be a blend of both, depending on the circumstances they're in. and i think that's so cool. dragons are so cool.
lian is sooooooo silly *squishes them lovingly* i adore them. lian the silly. the beloved. i am still altering their details and whatnot, but they're very lovely and wonderful <3
i understand AKDHFJKSH ouuuhghgh the other high elders... i feel like i am absolutely going to want to add them to the collection one day. they seem so neat. they really do have very cool titles!!! i love them they're so interesting to me. i should have gotten into hsr later so that i wouldn't have to wait for more vidyadhara lore smh /j /lh
you are always welcome to send in requests! i promise i'm not overwhelmed haha <3 i can't guarantee when the req will be posted, but i will definitely get to it eventually, so don't feel bad if you send in thoughts often. you wouldn't be the first anon to, and i love reading all of you guys' thoughts!!!
ohhh this question is so fascinating...... i'm not completely sure, really. something to do with change, resilience, and transition, i think. rebirth maybe. the transition between life and death. the transition from cisgender to a non binary eldritch horror (/hj). major life changes. something like that, i think. transformation. not metamorphosis though because i do not like flying insects! but you know. things like that maybe!!!!

You’ve Got a Friend in Me
Summary: You deserve to be my brother.
Author’s Note: I won’t go on a rant here many of you have already done so and much more eloquently than I can, Han Seo deserved to live and I think it would have been so much more original and refreshing if they didn’t kill the victimized character who was finally getting a second lease on life with his new family. If any of you read BMTL you know that I have a weak spot for abused characters and when they are treated this way I can’t stand for it. So join me here in this alternate reality where puppy does not die and instead he gets the love and rebirth that he deserves.
Tumblr media
Everything is white hot pain, and he wonders if this is what death feels like and if so why must this suffering follow him even into death? When will he finally be free from agony if not now? There are a flurry of sounds surrounding him but nothing decipherable until he hears, “Clear!” a voice shouts in the distance but he doesn’t know who that is, where exactly would someone like him go after death? Surely he hasn’t atoned enough for his sin of compliance to be granted a passage to pearly gates or a gracious omnipresent presence, there is only one place for someone like him. Hell.
It doesn’t scare him, not with the life that he has lived. His hell started a long time ago, with a father that couldn’t be bothered with him no matter how many bruises and cuts littered his prepubescent body. Those very marks put there by the one person he desperately wanted to please, his hyung. That has been hell, a long enduring and never-ending hell and almost demonically poetic that was the cause of his very demise. The bullet through his ribs was nothing compared to every day of his life, up until he met Vincenzo and saw what living was supposed to be like. He had never truly lived before and the very moment he had started that had been snatched from his bloody hands.
Fuck it all. He was ready to go.
But regardless of his acceptance the pain sears on and he can see the ghastly face of Vincenzo peering down at him, eyes red rimmed and those words that he had longed to hear since he was born into his world and realized that there was someone whom he was supposed to call brother.
You deserve to be my brother.
“We’re losing him! Let’s do it again, clear!”
Electricity floods his body and its nothing like anything he has ever felt before and he can feel his consciousness fading away, his thoughts drifting away until there is nothing left behind, just silence and regrets.
Beep...Beep....Beep....Beep....
The constant sound jars him from his slumber and once again pain resurges in his body winding him before he can even bring himself to peel his heavy eyelids open, that battle almost enough to defeat him but he can feel a presence beside him and an unexplainable desperation forces him to see who it is. It feels like his very life depends on it.
Little by little, he starts to peer his eyes open feeling the strain as he tenses and squirms under the pressure and finally they are open and his vision swirls unfocused and dizzy, staring at a painfully white ceiling and one single yellow tinted light. His brain supplies his location, the hospital. And then it takes a longer moment to realize the implications of his whereabouts, but after a moment’s pause he gasps feeling the dryness of his tongue and the cracks on his lips. Everything hurts, every fiber of his being is in insufferable agony but he almost weeps because that only means he’s alive. Somehow he had survived.
With the minor strength he has he turns his head towards the figure next to him and his breath comes out in a shocked huff when he sees the dark figure in the chair, they had said their final goodbyes already and he had accepted that the only true brother that he’d had was taken from him, punishment for being born in this family. Yet, Vincenzo sits there sleeping looking pained even in his slumber a grimace across his face and his brows furrowed in distress. immediately he thinks about Ms. Hong, the blood staining her shirt and her body crumpling to the ground as she took a bullet for the man she loved. If Vincenzo was here with him looking like that did that mean she was...?
No. It couldn’t be. His brother had already taken away Vincenzo’s mother he couldn’t have stolen the woman he loved too. That was simply too cruel a fate for the man. But why else would the man be here? This thought drives him to move, only able to move his hand but it’s enough to knock the consigliere from his peace less rest, he wakes as if he was not sleeping in the first place eyes immediately blinking open and hyper focused. He vaguely wonders if that is a survival skill of all members of the Mafia?
They stare wordlessly at each other and before he can say a word Vincenzo is reaching across the small space and embracing him, his arms are ever gentle as they pull him in and his head is stuffed into the other man’s neck. He lays frozen unprepared for the sudden show of affection and still not used to hands on his body without the purpose of harming him but then his brain swirls to life and he pushes past the pain to reach up and clutch at the smooth material of Vincenzo’s suit jacket. At the first press of his fingers the other man grips him tighter, almost crushing him into his chest and it hurts, puts too much pressure on his wound but he won’t say anything doesn’t dare. This is the first time someone has hurt him because they cared about him. He wants to hold on to this precious moment forever.
“I’m so happy you’re okay. You lost so much blood and I really thought--”
“How’s Miss Hong? She is....Is that why you’re here? Please don’t tell me he really did it...Did he really kill her?”
He starts shaking at the notion, tears pooling in his eyes imagining the woman’s dead cold body.
It should have been me instead.
As carefully he held him Vincenzo releases him, those large gentle hands warm and soothing on his trembling shoulders.
“She’s fine. She’s in the room next to you. It’s all thanks to you, I can never thank you enough.”
Relief washes over him like a wave, he’s too weak to do anything but fall back into the plush bed beneath him.
She was okay. Thank goodness.
“What are you doing here? You should be with her. Go now, I’m not as important.” He means every word, he has never been anyone’s priority, no that’s for others he is nothing more than a nuisance and a punching bag.
“What are you saying? Do you remember what I said to you before you fainted?
He does. How could he forget? But that was merely something said in the heat of the moment. Or so he had thought but that thought was enough for him to welcome the hands of death.
“I see you remember. You are important to me. You’re my brother Han Seo-ah.”
He can’t fight the smile that tentatively crawls across his face, “You meant it? it wasn’t just because I was dying?” He asks sheepishly and he squeaks in pain when a finger flicks his across the nose, looking up affronted but giddy with the possibilities.
“I wouldn’t lie to someone on their death bed, I have principles you know.” Vincenzo huffs at him, striding across the room to pour a glass of water and he watches the liquid earnestly. When the older man pushes the tempting beverage in his direction he desperately wants to grab it but he finds that he can’t his body refusing to move.
“Can you help me drink it?” He watches the older man stare back at him, an eyebrow raised as he looks at him and peers back helplessly, “Please Hyung,” and surprisingly enough that’s all it takes for the Vincenzo to carefully cup his head and tilt the glass on his mouth, allowing the glorious nectar to soothe his parched throat. A dribble leaks out of the side of his mouth and he’s further floored when the other man wipes it away with a napkin, guiding him back against his pillows.
He tries to school his face into something less pathethic and pitiful but he knows that he’s not doing a great job, he can’t help it there has never been anyone like this for him. Never anyone who cared about him as Han Seo, not a pawn or someone to use or abuse, it’d enough to make everything he has gone through worth while.
He can’t contain his joy watching his brother tug up his sheet and tell him to get some rest, he’s never fallen asleep so easily and without a care in the world. He has nothing to fear, now that he has Vincenzo.
Tumblr media
He gets more visitors.
People from the plaza that used to look at him with distrustful eyes, now they bring him food and one time when he needs to use the bathroom the lady from the pawnshop singlehandedly lifts him and carries him to the toilet, his cheeks hurt from blushing and he makes everyone in the room promise to never mention it again.
They mention it at least four times a visit.
Sometimes even re-enacting it for the people who weren’t there on the day.
Ms. Hong laughs the loudly, ignoring Vincenzo’s helicoptering and warnings of her opening her wound, none of it stops her and he watches with soft eyes as the woman easily rests her head on his shoulder when she starts to feel lightheaded.
They are so sickening obvious sometimes.
He gets used to the company so days later when he finds himself alone, his insecurities rear their ugly heads. Telling him that they’ve forgotten him and they were only being kind because of Vincenzo and Ms. Hong, they didn’t really care about him or like him and those thoughts muffle his awareness preventing him from hearing the door slide open or the almost unperceivable footsteps that follow.
“You look better than I expected.”
He freezes at the voice, staring at his fingers because he’s not yet ready to face her.
He tried not to notice that she never came with the others, but that was futile and the hole in his chest stretched wider and wider each time they would show up and her glowing figure was missing.
“Did you hurt your mouth?”
He smarts at the comment, hurt by her seemingly dismissive attitude to him laying in a hospital bed.
“Like you care. You never visited before.”
Instantly he regrets the comment, she owes him nothing. They are nothing after all, barely even acquaintances. This crush is unrequited and he has no right taking out his frustrations on her, he was being too greedy.
He opens his mouth to apologize.
“I....... don’t like hospitals. They feel too much like the end.”
He stills at her chilling words, mouth slightly gaped.
Was she worried about him? Enough so that seeing him in a hospital bed was too jarring?
That couldn’t be it.
Could it?
“I’m sorry I didn’t come earlier. I always asked about you.”
A frown is etched into her pretty face and he can’t stand it so much that he blurts out, “ The pawn shop lady carried me to the bathroom once! I have never been so embarrassed, why is she so strong?!”
She stares at him blankly before a beatific smile dances across her pale pink lips, and he hears her laughter for the first time.
It is melodic, like keys ringing on a piano and the sound is captivating enough to fill his entire room and he wishes he could bottle it up and listen to it whenever he wanted to.
She stays.
Longer than he expected and he tries not to smile too large but it’s hard when she’s shooting him that contagious smile. They watch game shows on a laptop that she pulls out of thin air and he laughs nervously as she explains how she once hacked and ruined the life of a man who wouldn’t take no for an answer when she was a waitress at a bar.
She’s scary, like most people at the plaza but he’s dangerously attracted to her like a fly to a light.
He doesn’t recall falling asleep but he mumbles contentedly when he feels her tuck the blanket tighter around his body, soft deft fingers running across his fringe before he succumbs to the pull of unconsciousness.
“Good night puppy.”
Tumblr media
He doesn’t mean to overhear, wasn’t trying to eavesdrop at all but he saw the light on in Miss Hong’s room and immediately the worst came to mind.
Han Seok is here to finish the job.
So he races to the door, ready to defend her by any means even if that means putting his life at risk, again. His hand is on the door knob twisting and silently he pushes the door open, stepping in before realizing there is no danger.
At least not to them, he can’t say the same for the victims of his brother.
Vincenzo looks tired, achingly so.
He feels a pang in his own chest watching the sunken face of the other man as he watches Miss Hong, her eyelashes fluttering wildly in her sleep. He makes to exit the room but the low rumble of Vincenzo’s voice halts him in his track, he has never heard the other man sound so forlorn.
“This is all my fault. You would have been safe if you never met me.”
He blinks, taken back at the heartbreaking confession.
Did Vincenzo truly believe that? That they would have been safer without him? It’s the biggest lie he’s ever heard and he has to bite his tongue to stop himself from responding to the fallacy.
“You deserve better than me. I am a scum and you....you’re different Cha-young ah.”
He has never heard the older man call her that before.
“I should just disappear out of your life, that’s the best gift I could give to you. Leaving you alone and letting you live your life.”
No. He wants to scream listening to this and he realizes that these words remind him of someone, someone who has had all these thoughts before.
I am useless. Nobody wants me. It would be better if I disappeared.
Vincenzo sounds like all of his darkest thoughts, said aloud. He has to grip the door to stop himself from running over to the man and pulling him into a tight hug. He can feel his pain all the way across the room.
“That would be best for you. But I can’t,” his voice cracks, “Every time I think about leaving you, it hurts. It hurts Cha-young. I want to stay with you. I want to be the one who makes you smile,” He watches his brother gently pick up her limp hand, sandwiching it between both of his. It’s such a tender moment, he should leave.
“Everyone I loves dies, that’s my fate. My punishment. I had accepted that...before you and Han Seo and my...mom. Now I’m greedy and I don’t want to lose anyone. I don’t want to lose you, please...stay with me.” Vincenzo crumples at the side of the bed, his ungelled hair blocking his eyes now as he lays his head on Ms. Hong’s hand pleading with her and finally he pulls the door open and steps back into the hallway, he doesn’t realize he’s crying until he slips back into his bed.
Tumblr media
When the knock sounds at his door, he calls out with no idea of who could be visiting him, a certain pretty pianist flashes in his mind but he pushes that desire to the back of his mind.
He sits up at the sight of Ms. Hong shakily entering his room, Vincenzo’s disapproving face flashing in his mind.
“Ms. Hong you shouldn’t be moving around, hyung would be upset if he saw you.”
She stares at him with wide eyes and he stares back placidly before realizing what he just said. He slaps a hand over his mouth, remorseful and ashamed. He has never called Vincenzo that in front of anyone else, too embarrassed to see the question on their face and terrified that the other man would deny him in front of others. Maybe Vincenzo wanted to keep this as a secret? Why would he want a needy idiot like him following him around and embarrassing him? His cheeks burn and he brings his gaze to the floor.
“Don’t. Whatever you’re thinking stop. He calls you his brother too, you are brothers now. Don’t doubt that Vincenzo always keeps his word.”
He feels naked beneath her stare, shocked at how easily she can see through him. Was he really that obvious?
“I wanted to talk to you.”
He gulps nervously, watching at the older women wobbles across the room before gracelessly falling into the chair beside his bed, he reaches out to help her smiling back when she grins at him, he tries not to blush when she pats his cheek in gratitude, the movement all too motherly.
“What did I do wrong?” He replies, and there is deafening silence before she answers, “You poor thing. Life must have been so hard before, you must have struggled so much.”
He is completely and utterly unprepared for the words and he cannot stop the tears that well up and collapse at her genuine concern.
“It's okay. You have us now and we’ll never let him hurt you again.”
He cries, harder than he ever has before. Longer than he has ever allowed himself to cry, he cries for his youth, for his innocence, for the young Han Seo who just wanted to be loved. His body shakes from the tremors of his sorrow, liquid pain streaming down his face.
“It wasn’t your fault. You didn’t deserve any of it. You did well, you did so well. I am so proud of you.”
When she runs a tentative hand across his brow, he chokes on his tears sinking deeper into the bed.
“I wanted you to know that you are my family too. You saved us both and I can never thank you enough, I would be honored if you considered me a sister too.”
He lays in disbelief, unable to fathom how he has gained a brother and a sister in such a short expanse of time. There are no words, he nods quickly. Letting his tears continue to fall.
She lets him cry, a serene smile on her face as he shakes apart in front of her. Softly whispering, “You did so well. I’m so proud of you.” Over and over again, tattooing it into his skin.
Words he has never heard before.
Words he has longed for all his life.
Time ticks by and before he knows it, it is nearing midnight. They had simply sat together in solace for hours.
“You should go get some rest,” he states quietly and for once she doesn’t argue nodding in agreement before squeezing his hand and standing up, only a little wobbly this time.
“You too. Sleep well Han Seo-ah.” He nods, watching her retreating form as she nears the door and impulsively he calls out, “Noona!” and it feels strange on his tongue, even newer than hyung but his heart warms at the brilliant smile she sends his way, turning back at his outcry, “Hmm?” she replies tilting her head curiously at him.
“You know don’t you?”
She stares, head tilting further and he knows she knows exactly what he means.
“You weren’t sleeping. You heard everything.”
She doesn’t bother looking surprised, he’s grateful for the lack of charades.
“You know how he feels. You feel the same. Why won’t you confront him?”
She stares at the ceiling before locking eyes with him again, “He’s been hurt before, he had a brother once before you know. He tried to kill him.”
He didn’t know. it’s too familiar. It's the last thing he wished they had in common.
“He doesn’t let people in because it’s too scary when they leave. You two aren’t so different, he just does a better job of hiding it.”
He has no comment, there are so many different layers to Vincenzo and he doubts he will never truly understand the enigmatic man.
“So this is enough for you? You don’t want more?”
He thinks of Miri and all the baggage that he’s carrying, he has no right to place that on her. It’s better if he stops this thing before it starts right? He has no idea what he can give to another person, is he even capable of love?
“Yes. This is enough. He is enough, every moment with him is enough.”
The wind stutters from his lungs, this is the second time he has heard a confession meant for another.
“What about me? Do you think I can be enough for someone too? Could I someday find someone who cares for me like you care for hyung?” He doesn’t know what has come over him but he waits anxiously for her response, every atom of his body shivering in anticipation.
“Silly boy,” his heart drops, “You already have someone like that. She comes to see you everyday even though she’s terrified of hospitals.”
“Wha--what?” He stutters out feeling all the blood race to his face, she only smiles broadly in reply mimicking fingers dancing across a piano before sauntering out of his room with a loud chuckle.
This isn’t over yet. Han Seok is still at large and more people could get hurt but he has never felt safer in his life. He has a family now, one that he fought for with more passion that he thought he had and he has no plans of letting that go, for anyone.

The freedom we give to ourselves
Tumblr media
How does one find freedom in a cruel and cynical world? What does freedom even mean? What would it feel like? How will we know when we see it? These have been recurring questions throughout this story. We seem to explore attempts at the answer to this question through the perspective of characters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kenny Ackerman’s life in pursuit of power led him to realise a truth about himself and the people around him. this idea of being drunk on something. That People need something to believe in to keep them going, to keep them from being broken by life’s suffering. Something that they hope gives each of their lives meaning. Each character’s pursuit towards this idea is what they believe will give them freedom from suffering.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zeke was no exception to this, he sees the suffering he experienced as a suffering inherent in being an Eldian in this world. He was drunk on the idea that his and the collective suffering would stop if Eldians ceased to exist.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite this proposition, Zeke was able to find true freedom not by pursuing his personal mission through to the end but by letting it go. This push to move forward: to explain himself, his life, his suffering. It has brought him only more dissatisfaction and pain. He kept moving forward and when Eren took power from Ymir he was just sitting inert in Paths. It is not until his conversation with Armin that he truly looks back and reflects. Armin talks about a time where he was just having an aimless moment shared between loved ones. Zeke looks within and finds himself playing catch with Xaver. It has no meaning but it is a moment in his life where he’s not suffering but nor is he striving to push forward with some grand purpose. He is simply… existing. Without complication. Without justification. He is just someone who exists in this world because he was born into it. A simple moment with a profound effect: that life has intrinsic value and purpose regardless of how cruel it may seem. Zeke has now found that peace he was looking for his entire life. That feeling stays with him right up to the moments of his death. He can’t take back all the blood he has shed but for a few moments to take in the clear sky of the day. He can just exist.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There has been an exhaustive debate in and out of the story of who or what the true devil of humanity is supposed to be. The devil of all earth that plagues humanity. I don’t believe it is Eren but I do believe he is the person in the story most seduced by it. I put forward that the devil of humanity isn’t a person born once in a generation, it is not a creature or some sort of supernatural force. The devil of humanity is the cycle of violence itself. A tiny glimmer of light or fear of the dark that pushes us into war, into chaos, into hell.
Tumblr media
We may believe we see something beyond it. Something we can gain or something we fear will be taken from us if we don’t answer the call: “Do this and your dream will come true, you will be safe, you will be loved, the pain will stop” Just once. Then once again. Then once more. Before you know it, you are gripping the wheel of a sinking ship so heavy you have no hope of turning it on your own. But that may be the very thing that can stop it. Hope. The hope you give yourself in small acts of faith. Kindness. Compassion. Empathy. Seeing beyond the walls that trap your spirit. Not to seek out freedom taken from you but to reconnect with the freedom you always had that never left, your humanity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If this is Isayama’s message, that freedom is in finding one’s humanity. One finds freedom by reconnecting with their humanity. I put forward that the most free person in this story has been Mr Blouse, Sasha’s father.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mr Blouse is the person in the story most consistently connected to his own humanity and humanity as a collective whole. He makes it a principle to stay connected to it. So much so that when given a justifiable choice to take revenge on Gabi for killing his daughter. He instead chose to forgive her and console both her and Niccolo showing her the most humane act she had ever received. She did not have to justify her existence as a good Eldian in that moment, she was accepted as another person who deserved to exist even if she’d made mistakes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From Gabi’s experience and perspective, nothing made more sense than Mr Blouse killing her for what she did. What he decided to do was so simple yet its impact was profound. He reached Gabi because he saw something real beyond answering hate with hate. He sees a precious freedom beyond this cycle, and now thanks to what he did Gabi can see beyond it too and was able to find her humanity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How does this relate to the main character of the story, Eren. Eren’s case is a very tragic one. No one is more emotionally attached to the idea of freedom than Eren, it has a specific imprint within his psyche. However there also lies the imprint of the wall within his psyche and all the trauma associated with it. From an early age Eren, at his most traumatised, found a resolve to find freedom from this horrific nightmare by destroying those who took his freedom from him at any cost. But in finding this resolve and trusting it above anything else, he had unknowingly damned himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The wall is so strongly associated with trauma in Eren’s mind, and now with the release of the wall titans, he is literally weaponizing his trauma and aiming it at the rest of the world. Yams is establishing that humanity is the only real freedom we have and Eren had always expected freedom to be beyond the walls. However, because of Eren’s compounded trauma, humanity is the ultimate enemy. In sacrificing his humanity and wiping all of it from the outside world, he is destroying the freedom he wanted for himself and for everyone in the world.
Tumblr media
This happens all in the basement of his old home in Shiganshina. Eren was on the cusp of moving beyond his trauma when suddenly all of that pain, all of those triggers were reformatted, given new context when he learned the truth of his world. Why all of this pain and suffering happened to him. Once he met the formative father of his new world rebirth – Eren Kruger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eren has found stability in this turmoil by latching onto Kruger’s mindset, believing Kruger to embody what he needs to be to save those he cares about. In this new large and scary world, Eren sees Kruger as the person he will have to be to exist, to make a change. Eren has assimilated Kruger into his identity, evident from Eren taking Kruger’s name during his time spent in Marley. In how we are introduced to him post time skip, Eren is pursuing action using Kruger’s words to young Grisha about the Zeppelin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Freedom is hard fought and after fighting tooth and nail and suffering and pushing as hard as he can, he will have his freedom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Culminating in the Jaeger trio at the Reiss family cave, we finally see how far Eren’s resolve has pushed him. Eren is not the devil but he is the one most seduced by it (pushing forward the cycle of violence). He tells Grisha to do this to justify his own belief that this was necessary. To sacrifice his humanity, the humanity he managed to find in the walls after a life of pain and anger as soldier of revolutionary radicalism. For Eren, sacrificing one’s humanity is what is necessary. But Eren misunderstood what he was supposed to take away from Kruger’s life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is an additional meaning behind Kruger’s final words to Grisha – in sacrificing his humanity to get to this point, he has lost everything precious to him. All that exists is the end goal, the zeppelin. Seeing the zeppelin is… all there is. It won’t give you back what you lost or what you have told yourself you need to take back: aka your humanity. Eren’s “sight” is the zeppelin and he believes seeing it will give him back the freedom taken from him. It’s no coincidence that Grisha looks like Eren when he reflects on the day that traumatised him the most.
Tumblr media
We see Kruger talking to Grisha further after he is given his mission. As Kruger prepares the serum for Grisha he mentions that he won’t know who will be watching this memory. If we take the ironic nature of this story into consideration, this can also mean that he doesn’t know if whomever is watching these memories will stop watching before he is about to say what he says. It takes place at the end of the chapter after we see Eren finding his new resolve and coming to grips with what he has learned and what he needs to do.  This may be implying that this further discussion between Kruger and Grisha is something that Eren didn’t actually see. Kruger’s final important message to Grisha is to love someone. Be it a wife, a friend, the people around you. In specific terms, treasure your humanity and preserve it no matter what happens. Like Mr. Blouse, treasure the humanity found in others, even in enemies who have wronged you or may wrong you. Because that is what it means to find life intrinsically valuable.  That is the only way to end this cycle of violence and ironically what Kruger has realised after losing so much of his own and now Eren in turn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So if the path to freedom is to find one’s humanity does this mean that the cycle of violence can be wiped out and the devil of humanity will stop plaguing the world? I don’t think that’s a question Yam’s is capable of answering nor does he intend to.
Tumblr media
However, I think he may propose that if it is possible for the main character of the story, the one who has been the most seduced by the cycle of violence and spilled the most blood is able to give himself back his humanity after willingly sacrificing so much of it. Then there is hope for anyone of us to find true freedom. Not everyone, but anyone. Because not just knowing but realising that we are all human, and valuing that, is what makes us truly free.

Rambling about Fundy Reincarnation again because THE IMPLICATIONS
Ok so with the recent update on what Wilbur counted up as the tally of canon lives everyone has (and since Dream and Sapnap and everyone have mentioned it on stream as well, I think it’s safe to say that they all agree with it?), I wanna quickly talk about the Fundy Reincarnation lore because oh man it’s such an interesting piece of lore and I’ve seen pretty much nobody talking about it!
This is just a bunch of mindless ramble and speculation and random thoughts I’ve plastered together because I like taking this one random, very strange idea and thinking about what it could possibly imply.
I do think it’s worth thinking about!
Because yeah, it could just be a one-off jokey ramble or something, but you know what else was a joke at first?
Sally the mother-fucking (father-fucking?) salmon.
And I’ve made a whole post already just about the fact that Fundy has an elephant’s memory when it comes to his own lore and he doesn’t forget those one-off “Sally’s an accountant” type lines
Plus, Fundy brought it up in response to a dono literally asking him to clarify pieces of the lore, and he was very VERY insistent on the fact that he’s canonically older than Tommy due to the reincarnation. Maybe the details about being born from fire and fireworks are exaggerated, but the reincarnation thing certainly doesn’t seem to be.
So with that in mind, here are some things I’ve been thinking about:
Philza. Phil is, in the lore, Fundy’s grandfather. And despite only being on the server for two weeks and having seemingly no canonical deaths (and very few plain Minecraft deaths as well), he only has one life. He’s known for Hardcore, so if that’s the reason why he only has one, this would be an interesting way to bring the Hardcore World into the Dream SMP logic.
The implications that Fundy, while he has two remaining canon lives for his current Wilbur-Salmon-born incarnation, can never TRULY die, means that Fundy is a contrasting force to Phil.
Phil’s playing on Hardcore, Fundy’s playing on Easy.
Fundy can “canonically respawn” beyond both his grandfather AND his father’s capabilities.
How did Fundy lose three lives originally?
Yes, it’s kind of an impossible task to truly impose a very recent rule onto old plotlines so obviously we’ll never get a true answer, but in this case I just find it more funny than frustrating to speculate, ‘cause he basically “died” for the last time somewhere in between the flaming hot dog being placed on top of the Camarvan and Eret’s walls being built. Usually the debate about which deaths were canon just doesn’t sound fun to me, but I am coming to terms with the plot device more and more and this is just such an amusing idea.
What killed him? Was it the pure karma for him pranking Wilbur with fish? Did he get crushed by the hot dog? Run over by the van? Did Eret lay his foundations over Fundy by accident and drop a wagon of bricks on top of him? Did he drown in the L’manburg river?
I love every single possibility.
What is Fundy, exactly?
Ok, so obviously Fundy looks like a fox. Wilbur has said that he’s not literally a fox, just a furry, but Fundy’s also previously refused to kill foxes at all costs and it’s pretty commonly accepted that, yeah, he isn’t human.
So he was born to a salmon and a human, right? That makes his species a salmon-human hybrid?
Nope, but there’s no real explanation given for why not.
BUT, maybe this reincarnation lore, which sounds batshit crazy at first, actually helps clear up the confusion a bit.
Fundy’s magical somehow. Some sort of magic since he gets reincarnated, yeah? And he was a fox long before he even met Wilbur.
Yes, Wilbur made love to a salmon, but Fundy’s appearance remains the same before and after rebirth regardless of what new people/animals he was born to. That’s basically it. His species doesn’t depend on who his new parents are. His species is just a constant thing.
Yeah, he’s 1/4 Samsung fridge right now. But that doesn’t change the fact that he’s a fox, ‘cause he’s just always been a fox and he always will be a fox.
The different possibilities for what parentage he could have next
This part haunts me, and I’ve made posts about how much it haunts me, but I also think this has some interesting potential as well.
Eret wants to adopt Fundy right now. And Wilbur basically adopted SMP Fundy in a meta way when he first claimed Fundy as his son. So theoretically, when Fundy loses his lives, another person could claim Fundy as their son and then he would be their new child biologically. He’d have new parents and the implications for his lineage and family trees would be catastrophic and pure chaos.
Is anyone else in the SMP like Fundy? Is Dream like Fundy?
Maybe even, some people in the SMP can be reincarnated and they don’t realize it because they’ve never died three times before.
Dream’s “???” life count is puzzling everyone right now, but his situation could be similar to Fundy’s. Fundy definitely isn’t a god, but he’s still got a mysterious life count quirk as well.
PLUS
Dream has done his “levitate into the sky and /kill” act a couple times now for comedy’s sake, for the Dreamon plot and for the founding of Church Prime.
And notably, during his Church Prime bit he literally shouted “I AM RESURRECTED” as he ran back to everyone.
How cool would it be for that first Church Prime stream to have actual implications for the lore? And the Dreamon plot with Fundy??
Also...You guys love angst. This is angst potential right here. Every time you’ve got a character who’s canonically immortal you can RUN with that idea, dammit!
Fundy was so affected by Wilbur’s death. How many parents has he lost in past incarnations? How many more people around him will die, and he just gets stuck being reborn? Is that why he sought out Dream’s company? Dream, the only one with some mysterious “higher power” association? Dream, whose life count is a complete mystery?
Join me in the chaotic ramblings!
Yes I am absolutely reading way too much into this. This whole post is 100% reading wayyyyy too much into this.
Why?
Because it’s fun

Release the Harpocrates!George analysis??
😳👉👈
OOOOOH ANON U HAVE UNLEASHED THE FLOOD GATES YES. YES I SHALL.
im kinda copy-pasting this from google docs so sorry if any formatting fucks up, and its incredibly selfserving and specific in an attempt to find any and all possible links (do i really believe that they investigated this hard into the mythology? no. would this still be cool as shit? yes!)
so anyway disclaimer i am no mythology historian so if any of this is wrong uh...... artistic license.?. also its kinda long. sorry in advance lmao
okay so harpocrates is a greek interpretation of horus (the ancient egyptian god of the sun). hes the greek god of silence/secrets, but the greeks sorta misinterpreted the egyptian symbol for child (because horus was often depicted as a child/child god) as a symbol for silence, and i kind of relate this to fanon mis/interpretations of georges character being naive (''Naive and weak, George usually doesn't know what to do'' via dsmp wiki.) when he's just as much a seasoned warrior as the others, he just doesnt get involved with it much.
additional meanings/symbols of harpocrates is that he was ‘the distant one’ or ‘the one who is above’, which i think relates directly to georges apathy (regardless of its fanon or canon misinterpretations). also possibly something about his developing relationship with dreamxd & his developing lore to being /more than/ human so to say.
so if we accept that george really IS harpocrates, there are several links - and here is where it becomes distinctly intricate in an attempt to find as many similarities as possible, and youll have to forgive me for it - one may draw between harpocrates, george, and their symbolism.
like that Horus is the form of the first sun, and george is one of the founding members of DSMP.
harpocrates is commonly represented by a sheaf of corn. George was desperate to get back to his wheat farming during the loreman streams
bad told george in those streams to 'ask the sky' if he should take bad's items' when dreamxd killed him. horus>sun god>the sun & moon are commonly referred to as his eyes. this could also be some sort of hint to dreamxd being an omniscient sort of being tho. or both. who knows
Harpocrates (at least, his egyptian form as the young horus) was often depicted on a lotus flower. Lotus flower symbolism seems incredibly relevant to DSMP. they symbolise purity (innocence, childishness, naivety; bad referred to his items as ‘infected’, and george has never been to visit the egg - perhaps he’s pure of it?), enlightenment (there is a lot of emphasis and continued references to knowledge, curiosity, and ‘knowing the truth’. Karl, dream, quackity, and fundy seem to currently be the main purveyors of this and ¾ of them have relations to george), self regeneration and rebirth (resurrection book).
like idk maybe its a huge reach (probably is tbh) but theres a lot of underlying symbolism???
lotus flowers are also used as symbols of the union of higher/lower egypt and the union of two kingdoms, which makes me think of, like, the inbetween and the other-side, or life/death, and sleep/awake, greater dsmp/lmanberg, i could probably go on.
in egyptian mythology, young horus’s parents were osiris (the god of the underworld/death) and isis (goddess of death/magic/healing). There are a few moments where george tries to make amends/healings (like telling dreamxd to apologise after being excessively violent, ‘we’ll make amends’ in his lorestream). also (this part is bullshit and selfserving because i just think its cool) but wilbur playing loreman, being georges dad, and wilburs canonical character being an omen of death and destruction and the fact that (young) horus’s father was osiris.
the fact that egyptian pharoahs were seen as reincarnations of horus to the king george arc but maybe this is pushing it a bit (as if the rest of it hasnt been)
SO. horus is commonly depicted with a falcon or a sparrowhawk head. falcons symbolise freedom and victory, and were also often related to war gods in egypt. Spiritually, a falcon symbolises wisdom and protection (again, another mention to knowledge/wisdom, and george is presumably desperate for protection as seen in his desperation for netherite armour from dreamXD). Sparrowhawks symbolise the need to tap into a warrior at any time; like george calling/inviting dreamXD to the SMP whenever he's online which im fairly sure was discussed in georges lore stream too?
also roses are sometimes symbolic of harpocrates. they are sometimes used to show guests that any topic discussed in the room receiving them is not to be repeated or discussed elsewhere: where have we seen roses recently? the syndicate. (also the in-between and the quackity art, if you want to pull it into other lore avenues. All of these thrive on secrecy; karl keeping his time travel a secret; the syndicate remaining secret; and quackity not telling anyone about much of what goes on las nevadas/his prison visits with dream).
anyway: this was like all just for fun and i dont think it’s going to come true at all, it would just be cool as anything :> apologies again if any of my facts are wrong im just trying to tie knots in the lore with wet spaghetti
also a lot of this was aided by help from @insert-cleverurl bc we spent like. a while brainrotting this on discord. :D maybe one day ill make more lore theory/analysis posts because i have a cool dream/dreamxd one bubbling away

England and Portugal are par excellence the dynamic "friends who become lovers" but it is necessary to understand how that friendship is formed, as it will be the basis for developing romantic feelings between them in the future.
That is the central theme of this post: The sweet childhood.
Today there is no song as the central theme but my engport playlist is very long (I have approximately 80 songs in it) so I will only mention a fragment of these. Let's get started.
Childhood as nations: an impossible reality.
For certain things shown in the anime and manga I feel that it is important to remember that the characters are not human ... in a biological way. We must give importance to this fact because it lets us know that they experience life in a very different way than human beings.
Above all, a point in their lives that is remarkably different because they are nations is their childhood and a character who portrays this conflict well is USA, when we see him being the thirteen colonies he looks like a small child and usually acts like one, but as time passes and tensions grow in his territory, he undergoes a most abrupt transformation, although the series makes us believe that he really spent a considerable time, it was not like that and in a very short time USA lost his childish body and his own innocent mentality to obtain in exchange, the body of a young adult and a much clearer vision of the world and what was happening in it - and consequently a much more cruel and pessimistic vision of life.
What gives rise to a strange and disturbing scene but that makes a lot of sense if we consider that they are not human, the scene I am talking about is that moment in which USA is a full-fledged adult in physical and mentality while Canada looks like a child and acts accordingly like one.
These abrupt changes that nations are facing is a cruel reality from which they cannot escape and over which they have no control, their entire image and essence will depend on the decisions of their people.
With this in mind, let's continue: a well-known fact of the engport is that they are friends from a very young age and regardless of when you consider that they were each born.
-Was Portugal Lusitania ?, Was England Albion ?, Is Portugal born until the creation of her kingdom ?, Is England greater ?, etc-, we know that the lives of England and Portugal come together very soon.
According to Himayura, England's childhood is one of the most tragic, he was constantly harassed when he was small, weak and defenseless, which explains several traits of his character, looking at the history books, we know that Portugal did not sleep precisely on laurales, he also suffered from invasions and great stress -in fact all countries had complicated childhoods, only sadly there are some who have more bitter experiences in their memory-, with this panorama we see that the time that usually in human beings is of the happier, it was a true hell without any distinction and almost without exceptions for the nations.
To make matters worse, they, unlike other children, could maintain their illusion and innocence in several areas but their minds were already processing and understanding what was happening around them and even if it was difficult for them to do because they were young, they had no options and it was their duty to understand it.
Which must have been frankly overwhelming, since these characters from a very early age had to become familiar with dark concepts such as death, murder, famine, etc.
For what England and Portugal had behind them a difficult, lonely, isolated life and where began little by little the power games that would become more ruthless over time, it is at this moment where they meet.
They could meet at a time when they were still little children, who at any moment could undergo an abrupt change like the one I mentioned about USA where his body changed abruptly and his mind too, that is, they passed adolescence. And in fact both will face this rugged stage together.
Seeing their relationship I think it is very relevant that it occurred in these early years, it was not early enough for them to define each other to a primary degree - what happens with England and France that when they met from a very young age inadvertently molded their identities mutually. - and it was not too late for it to cost horrors to draw a political alliance because they had suffered enough and were distrustful who refused to establish close and deep connections with new people, no.
They were at the right point, where they had already suffered several wounds - betrayals, significant losses, wars, etc - that needed to be healed and they were still accompanied by a certain naivety / illusion that allowed them to keep alive their desire to meet others and wish a real affection - as real as it can be between nations - they were still hopeful in the bottom of their hearts.
Arthur and Port were able to offer themselves in that time full of tension, confusion and loss an Eden, the firm point on which I believe engport is based - and the one that caused its wear and tear in the years to come and its rebirth-.
An Eden is a safe and wonderful place, it is a refuge where they could be two happy children who played in the forest forgetting the pain, where they spoke of their most fanciful illusions without being judged, where they were two teenagers who were together against the world and spoken about their sadness, of they anger and they changing world:
And I've been meaning to tell you
I think your house is haunted
Your dad is always mad and that must be why
I think you should come live with me
And we can be pirates
Then you won't have to cry
Or hide in the closet
(Seven-Taylor Swift)
I put this fragment here because I think it clearly shows this idea of the eden, where both allowed themselves to create a sense of peace, that emotion that was and has been absent their entire existence until they met. A feeling that they cling to desperately to continue standing in that insensitive world in which they lived, not knowing what the future held but more encouraged that whatever it was they could bear it as long as they had their Eden together.

Reapertale AU and base differences
Sans --> Reaper/Espresso
Tumblr media
- First things first, Reaper or as much of the multiverse knows him as ‘Espresso’ because when the fuck isn’t this cynic showing up late with a cup of Starbucks. The answer is never, But regardless, Reaper is a full on God, Specifically the god of violent death (Papyrus, his brother is the god of merciful death). He is the one who handles the death’s of people who refuse to move on whether it because they died suddenly, Unjustly or believe it wasn’t ‘their time yet’. He will still reap them with impunity because he failed only once, Hesitated to reap someone and has managed to cause a terrible problem for everyone as a result.
- He has a hard time understanding ‘life’ and used to think that the goddess of life in her distant absence was a selfish, Sadistic god, Watching as her magic brought a baby back to life at the same time he ended the mother’s. He wondered at the time if she knew that her magic of life was so powerful that it made those gifted with it cry. His view on life held true with believing that magic despite hers being so soft and gentle, It let people life only to suffer and to eventually die...it seemed odd to him because often all he ever got to see was suffering. The dead, the dying and the begging of souls who didn’t want to move on.
- That was until he met her, He finds it ironic that it was death who was first to find life, She showed him a side to things that he hadn’t seen before. Whether it be the soft chirping of birds contrasted with the cawing of crows, She gave him a noticeable shift in his puns from the dark to the more positive side of things since he found he enjoyed hearing her laugh. Even so, He had a hard time understanding why mortals would go so far as to risk entering his and his brother’s realm, The underworld. To ‘rescue’ their deceased loved ones. Often to meet their own fates down there until she gave him the example of ‘what if she disappeared, what if she was taken away’
- Reaper gets angry and frustrated with emotions he doesn’t understand (Usually positive ones), he can’t stand thinking these ‘illogical’ emotions. He can’t afford to be illogical like a mortal, to think he’d give something up. Possibly anything up to get her back if he had to since he’s never had anyone to lose before? it scared him. His favorite flower is the white lily which was given to him by toriel (Although he accidentally wilted the first one) and she made him a stained glass version after that. As it’s a flower traditionally used by mortals to honor the death, He’s asked her occasionally for more flowers on the occasion so he has a small collection of stained glass flowers that he’ll pull out to look at. Toriels are the most special but he likes to collect other glass objects from various timelines because they don’t wilt.
- He experienced his first true gentle rainfall with toriel, His only other experience had been harsh rains and stormy seas so to feel the gentle plips of water on his skull, Well he’s basically fallen in love with the rainy weather ever since.
- While both he and his brother run the underworld together, His brother does a lot of the majority because he’s just better at it, He’s kinder and keeps things going while sans has always been better at judging the weight of the souls and whether they suffer in torment or move to possible rebirth in elysium one day. Also he has a dog, A three headed skeletal blaster dog who’s technically named ‘spot’ who helps keeps souls from leaving the underworld and living people from entering it.
- Reaper has a ‘death touch’ and this means in the exception of anti-voids or blank spaces (Error/Alter, Ink, Nightmare, etc-), He can’t touch living things or they will die. As a result, He has Haphephobia or the fear of touch/touching people because he’s so unused to being touched/touching (Other gods can touch him without harm/other beings in anti-voids or blank spaces) and it tends to make him jump despite desperately craving it. He’ll eventually get better at controlling his deathly touch and general death aura but he doesn’t want to cause any ‘accidents’

Pyre/Greedling Meta:
I remember in the earlier volumes that a fair amount of people in the FNDM would compare Cinder to Lust from Fullmetal Alchemist, due to her femme fatale persona and voice seeming like an impression of Laura Bailey's Lust.
But as we learn more about Cinder and meet Salem in vol4, it's very clear that the version of herself she likes to present herself as is meant to come across as an impression, an imitation. Because she's trying to imitate Salem, the person who defines what power is to her.
And as that facade crumbles and we slowly start to see how deep Cinder's desires really run, it's far more clear to me that her character and story have much more in common with Greed, not Lust.
:read more:
Greed is the only homunculi who is willing to follow his deepest desires to the fullest, regardless of where that placed him. He was certainly willing to do evil, but wouldn't if that evil didn't personally benefit him. And, over time within the series, Greed comes to realise that his obsession with power, glory and seeking to become God, were nothing more than vain attempts to cover up his true emotional emptiness caused by a lack of connecting to others. And once he finds a cause and people to support who help and support him in turn, his character arc finishes with him, Greed, looking on all that he has, his friends, and is grateful. Content.
Which ties into the lesson of the Fall Maiden in the Tale of the Four Maidens in which Fall begs the Hermit to look around at all he has and be thankful. To be satisfied and content with oneself, which is a lesson Cinder has to learn in order to truly become a Fall Maiden.
Greed's desires are similar to Cinder's own ambition for power driven by her fear and insecurities, seeking to become a "godlike maiden badass" wanting to fill the emptiness and craving she feels, not yet realizing that this will not be what brings her true satisfaction to her, well, greed.
"Greed may not be good, but it's not so bad either. You humans think greed is just for money and power! But everyone wants something they don't have"
"You Atlas elites are all the same! You think hoarding power means you'll have it forever. But it just makes the rest of us hungrier! And I refuse to starve"."
I think it's very important to point out that Greed doesn't become good or redeem himself because he sees the error of his ways and wants to atone for the things he's done, rather he starts on the path to redemption by refusing to be a pawn to Father any longer, when realizing the power and glory he craves he wouldn't be able to obtain by staying and working underneath Father like the rest. His greed and dissatisfaction are what motivates him, though it is ultimately Ling who gives him the final push and convinces him to side with the protagonists.
And Cinder at the end of vol7 seems to be heading towards a crossroads of whether or not she'll stay with Salem, given how the Grimm arm that was "gifted" to her by Salem seems to be slowly consuming her body, she might have doubts about whether the kind of power Salem has promised her is really the kind of power she wants, and whether she's prepared to sacrifice herself to obtain it, or whether she could choose to strike out on her own. Again, some villains start on the path to redemption solely out of self interest.
It's also not just Greed's story I think Cinder's is remarkably similar to, but the stories of Ling and Pyrrha and the role they play in Greed and Cinder's stories, as their souls and stories are intrinsically intertwined.
The ouroboros tattoo and its meaning was the first thing that caught my attention, as it the ouroboros symbol represents eternal cyclical renewal. Of life, death and rebirth. And how that aligns with Pyrrha's incantation used to unlock Jaune's aura:
"For it is in passing we achieve immortality. Through this we become a paragon of virtue and glory to rise above all. Infinite in distance and unbound by death, I release your soul, and by my shoulder, protect thee"
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Cinder also has a tattoo of her own symbol that appears after connecting to Amber's soul and taking half of her power, just like the ouroboros tattoo appearing after Greed and Ling's souls were intertwined and he had taken over his body. Cinder takes the other half of the maiden powers after Pyrrha had been bound to them as her and Amber's aura were intertwined, making it likely that Pyrrha is a part of Cinder in the same way Greed and Ling are.
Both Pyrrha and Ling are considered to be people in positions of power and prestige with great expectations placed on them that they intend to live up to. Ling as an Xingese prince, Pyrrha as a world renowned champion fighter and promising huntresses, the "invincible girl". Both agree to becoming a maiden/homuculus respectively, despite the inhumane means of doing so and risk to their body, soul and life, as they believe obtaining this power will help their people.
"We can't transfer Amber's power to you but we can give you what those powers are bound to."
"Her aura"
"Her life... would become intertwined with yours. The question is-"
"What's that gonna do to you?" - (RWBY Volume 3 Chapter 6)
Tumblr media
Greed and Cinder's stories are body horror stories about what you'll sacrifice for power, and the power they are "gifted" by their masters, Father and Salem, is concentrated in their left arm.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Interestingly, Greed's power that transforms him into an inhuman monster is his "Ultimate Shield" that makes him invulnerable, which is the exact opposite of the "power" that Salem grants Cinder that slowly crawls up her left arm threatening to turn her into a monster makes her more vulnerable than most, because she doesn't have aura to protect those parts of her.
Both Greed and Cinder are the most defiant of their masters wishes, and often Father and Salem experience losses and failures because they underestimated Greed and Cinder's ambition. What should have been an easy win at Haven for Salem failed because Cinder was overly ambitious in her need to to win, to feel powerful, and Greed's betrayal of Father is simply because his own ambition is greater than his, thus he would never be content to work underneath him, to be less than him.
Both are charismatic individuals and good at convincing others to work with them. They like to surround themselves with others and both are the only ones under Father/Salem to have their own subordinates (Wrath doesn't count since it was always Father's intention to have him become Fuhrer). Despite them clearly needing human connection, their relationship with their loyal subordinates we are introduced to alongside them is... Not Super Great. They might care about them to a certain degree, but at the end of the day they ultimately view them as useful tools and possessions.
Both of them speak of an emptiness they feel inside of them:
"All of these souls inside of me, and yet I still feel so... empty"
"It's... an emptiness. It burns. Like a hunger."
It's ultimately Ling thst acts as Greed's consciousness, as when he doesn't show any remorse over killing Bido, the last of the old Greed's followers, on the orders of Father, Ling is the one who drags out all of his repressed emotion, being able to feel his pain and see his memories, he forces Greed to face them and how terribly he treated his "friends", and to reevaluate his priorities and self, pushing him away from Father.
"It's nothing personal. I'm just doing my job. I am sorry, honestly!"
"What have you done, Greed? Are you determined to prove you're a monster? What kind of sick creature... would kill his own friend!?"
"He wasn't my... friend..."
"Then why do you remember him? And are you gonna try and tell me Bido was just making everything up?"
"Those were the last Greed's memories! They're not mine!"
"THEN WHY ARE YOU IN SO MUCH PAIN!?
Pull yourself together, Greed. I'm warning you. I'll take this body back if you drop your guard"
"They aren't mine... Father purified me and purged the old Greed's memories. Those memories aren't a part of me any more!"
"No! You're wrong Greed! It's not that easy! They'll always be a part of you! You can't just erase them from your soul! They were the only part of you that you chose!"
"Look at them! Can you not hear their souls crying out? You abandoned them. Your real family! You threw them away like trash!"
"Fool. If you turned your back on something you wanted, YOU DON'T DESERVE TO CALL YOURSELF GREED!" (Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood episode 44, Greed and Ling)
If Pyrrha were to return, it's likely she would manifest and communicate more directly with Cinder than maiden predecessors usually do (though in all fairness we don't know the details of if maiden predecessors do or not), being more similar to Ozpin and Oscar's situation, rather than just being a part of her soul, because of how unnatural her interference with the fall maiden's power transfer was. The way Ozpin looks and speaks about it makes it clear he knows there is a very good chance he was recreating his own curse the GoL bestowed on him, and that this isn't like when he was the Hermit, giving his magic happily to the Maidens.
There's also the parallels between Ozma and Pyrrha's situations too, and how readily they accept their mission and fate, and in how they die, and I believe we still haven't seen the full payoff to those parallels with Pyrrha.
When Ozma reincarnates the first time, it's implied that he completely overtakes Ozma 2.0/ Oisín/Diggs (why do we have so many names for him), having not yet learned how to live with the souls with which he had been paired. It's not until much, much later when Oz is beginning to have doubts about whether he should stay with Salem , but still continues to go along with her plans that Oisín makes himself known, (and we know Ozma isn't used to him communicating with him with how suprised and shaken he is by this, which is strange considering he's been paired with him for a long while, unless Oisín hadn't made himself known before this) and is the one who finally pushes Ozma to leave Salem.
"What are we doing?"
Tumblr media
With Cinder returning to Salem's side, full of doubt of whether she can go through with Salem's plan for her, to hurt and destroy herself for this power, and Emerald and Mecury (probably Neo too) likely betraying and cutting ties with Cinder too, which is going to leave her full of even more doubt, hurt, anger and additional feelings of betrayal and confusion. And more than anything, alone. Which would be the ideal time for Pyrrha to say to Cinder like with Ozma, "What are we doing?" To push her to reevaluate her priorities and self.
Tumblr media
Imagine Pyrrha finally being able to manifest or communicate with Cinder, realizing she's bound to the woman who killed her. Knowing her emotions and memories in their entirety, feeling her pain and anger as if it were her own. And Ruby describing her as "Pyrrha thought that if there was even the smallest chance of helping someone that it was a chance worth taking" the Pyrrha who told Jaune "Everyone needs a little help sometimes" understanding what Cinder went through, and that if she couldn't save the world or make it better by attempting to kill Cinder, then, maybe as she is now, the one thing she can do to help save the world, to make it a better place, is by helping Cinder be better, helping her use her talents for good, like a true maiden should? (On a more fun note, imagining Pyrrha deciding to help Cinder but not missing any opportunity to be a playfully snarky little shit towards her. Because what is Cinder gonna do? Kill her again? Like tell me Pyrrha would not Do Both. And Cinder's not sure which she hates more: Pyrrha teasing her or feeling sorry for her)
Another interesting thing is how in The World of RWBY: The Official Companion states that Salem's goal is to possess all four relics, and to absorb the power of all the Maidens, which she means to at some point, absorb Cinder's power. It's likely part of why she favours Cinder and has such an intimate relationship with her (the Relic of Choice might have played a role in why Salem chose Cinder specifically) That transition of maiden powers from Cinder to Salem would be made much more seamless for Salem if she was grooming Cinder to be more like her, and was slowly becoming more Grimm, if she was treating Cinder like an extension of herself, because to Salem, she would be. Which is again, similar to Father and Greed, as Greed literally was an extension of Father created from him, and absorbed back into him when he became too disobedient and remade and reborn again.
The finale of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood has Father absorbing Greed's philosopher's stone in an attempt to claim his power, but Greed ends up sacrificing himself by inverting his Ultimate Shield inside of Father, making his whole body incredibly fragile and vulnerable so Ed is able to defeat him. In the end, Greed ends up being the key to their victory against Father.
I want to make it clear that I don't personally think RWBY will end with Cinder dying or "defeating" Salem. At least, not in the traditional sense. I can draw as many comparisons as I like between Greed and Cinder but at the end of the day they're two different stories with different themes. And I don't believe that kind of ending would align with RWBY's. One of the themes of Cinder's story is to find a way to keep living no matter what. And as for Salem, the only way she can "die" is to learn the value of life and death, which would require a much more different approach.
But either way, I do believe Cinder will end up being their key to victory one way or another, similar to Greed.

Note
Why I don’t think reapers are reborn as reaper babies. First and foremost, it would be extremely inefficient for (always understuffed) dispatch to wait for baby reapers to grow up. I think that their soul is taken for judgment and transferred to a “new-old” body. Their mortal remains are left in the living world and the “new body” might be created from “matter” of some kind by the higher-ups. (1)
Well, who says the bureaucracy of the reaper organization is necessarily efficient to begin with? I see no reason to believe it’s run as smoothly as they like to think. Besides, part of my theory is that waiting for new reaper baby bodies to become available and for new reapers to grow up enough to be recruited by the organization would help to explain why they are so understaffed in the first place. Another reason why the collections department, specifically, might be understaffed is that not everyone who is recruited and trained has the aptitude for soul retrieval. William is probably only talking about his own department of the London branch.
And not having many female reapers around also helps to explain why some male reapers (particularly in soul collection) start flirting with human females, like we have seen Ronald do at least twice in manga canon. If the rebirth theory turns out to be true, and if Undertaker also ends up being Cedric, then reaper males reproducing with human females would also be considered an act to undermine the whole reaper organization. After failing to destroy the reaper HQ around 1819, Undertaker might have considered several other ways to weaken the organization. Reducing the available staff, over time, is one way (among others) to do that.
Your suggestion about the “new-old” bodies is a possibility; I just haven’t seen any real evidence either in favor of that or against my rebirth/karmic reincarnation theory. I’d be very curious to know what people in the fandom who support the “new-old body” theory think the materials come from, how and where the bodies are made, etc.
Tumblr media
Real people definitely commit suicide at different ages, and I think it’s no different in the Kuroverse, but my rebirth theory takes note of how all the new recruits in the “Story of Will the Reaper” OVA look to be about the same age, perhaps 18 or so years old. My rebirth theory also suggests they age very slowly... and that people like Lawrence “Pops” Anderson would count as evidence that some reapers (perhaps all of them) have to go through their punishments for an immensely long period of time. It could even be used as possible evidence that the promise of salvation is not true....
Hair length isn’t dependent upon how long they have been reapers, as Othello has been there longer than Grelle and William, and Grelle’s hair is much longer than Othello’s. And William has been there longer than reapers like Ronald, but Ronald’s hair is longer than William’s. Hair length is about personal style... if not an indicator of “power” as a reaper.
Tumblr media
Undertaker has bags under his eyes, and they were not there before. Not even when he first revealed himself to be a reaper.
Yes, statistically, more males commit suicide than females. This would cause even more of a problem of being understaffed... if their society/organization relies on female reapers to supply more reaper babies/bodies. I wouldn’t say it’s unrealistic, though I agree it’s somewhat misogynistic. Who says the reaper realm isn’t just as misogynistic as the human realm tends to be? I have a strong feeling that attitudes in the different branches of the reaper realm reflect the regions they come from/work for. Even though their technology is more advanced, their thinking about gender roles might not be. Furthermore, if you advance their society 50 — even 100 — years, the reaper realm would still reflect a largely misogynistic human realm/society. In the Kuroverse, the German branch might be more open to female reapers collecting souls, etc., since we see how the human realm has several women in the German military — Sieglinde’s mother was a chemist, and the female villagers were soldiers. We don’t have a canon sex or gender confirmed for Sascha, so 🤷🏻‍♀️. Any rules there might be for the roles female and male reapers play in the reaper organization might be entirely dependent upon the branches where they work.
One point you are categorically wrong about: we actually do know that female reapers work various office jobs in the organization, and that’s not just mentioned in the anime, where Ronald is shown chatting up (presumably) female reapers in some department at HQ. In the manga, we haven’t had a scene like that, but Ronald mentions something similar... when he’s talking about getting modifications approved for his death scythe.
But, since they do canonically have secretarial/desk jobs within the reaper organization, this is just further evidence that the reaper realm (or at least the London branch) is still a misogynistic society, even if it’s ahead of the Victorian views about females/women. Because when females/women first entered the corporate world, it was typical for them to be secretaries or low-paid office workers.
We don’t really know what’s important or not important to the story. Most of this is the fandom trying to figure that out as we go.
I agree with you about this: I also highly doubt that the promise of redemption is true.
Tumblr media
Some form of “disposal” could easily be the case, but that could just as easily be true for the “rebirth/karmic reincarnation” theory as it would be for the “new-old bodies” theory.
My theory includes using (at least parts of) their old human cinematic records, along with their old human souls, when making reaper babies. The whole business of putting souls into human babies to begin with is such a mystery that how it would be done with reaper babies is allowed to remain just as ridiculously mysterious. How they add snippets of a cinematic record from a previous life is the least mysterious part about it: whoever does it uses more precise techniques than Undertaker first did with his early bizarre dolls. His latest ones don’t seem to have stitches across their foreheads anymore. Bizarre doll Ciel did... at first... but doesn’t seem to anymore; a fresh blood supply might help explain that. Well... what do you think happens with the blood supply of a developing fetus? It’s cleaned and replenished by the mother....
The more I think about Undertaker’s methods in creating bizarre dolls, the more I think he’s basically learning, through trial and error, how to do things that the “superiors” or the gods can do. And I believe that’s true, regardless of which reaper creation theory is right. Either they are souls trapped in “new-old bodies” or they are reincarnated into reaper babies; it doesn’t matter too much to him because he really only has pre-existing bodies to deal with. Mating with human females gives you humans with some reaper traits... but does not give you reapers. What happens if Undertaker figures out how to combine a human body with a different (but closely-enough “shaped”) soul? We might just find out, at some point.... Anyway, he’s basically using and improving upon tidbits of stollen technology, which is a huge Mother game series parallel. Not just Mother3, but the entire series. (Maybe try #george in my blog for more on that.)
You said it. Reapers need to eat and sleep; that’s canon. Why wouldn’t they also be able to reproduce? To me, this is evidence in favor of “rebirth/karmic reincarnation”. The same could potentially be true for “new-old bodies” theory. (It doesn’t really make sense if reapers are dead and walking around in their original bodies, though. Very little of what we now know about reapers still works with the idea they are walking corpses that have been reanimated with their own, old souls. Particularly since some suicide methods would completely destroy the body.)
Sebastian says reapers are much like gods, or that they are something between gods and humans. But what, truly, does a demon know about the nature of reapers? Does he even know about their eating and sleeping requirements?
For that matter, what do reapers truly know about demons?
Reapers and demons might simply “know” about each other what they have witnessed and what they have been told. There’s a good chance they believe several false truths about each other. Quite possibly by design. I imagine the gods prefer to keep it that way....
Tumblr media
And these are just my thoughts and theories, too. They have changed quite a bit over the roughly 6 years I’ve been in the Kuroshitsuji fandom, and I realize they might change again... as we get more canon information about reapers, demons, “superiors”, the gods, and even humans in the Kuroverse. I try to take a scientific approach to this, in that I’m willing to change my beliefs in light of new evidence. So, I do try to respect other opinions and theories, but I will reject what doesn’t match the evidence. Like I said, some of my own views and theories have changed over the years. Often, those changes start with theories presented by others in the fandom.
Either of us could be correct, at this point, and only time (and future chapters) will tell us which theory is right... if either is... and if Yana-san chooses to even explain how suicide victims are “turned into” reapers. 😅 Honestly, we might never know. 🤦🏻‍♀️
I’m glad you enjoy my blog, even if you don’t always agree. I tend to enjoy the blogs of theorists I don’t always agree with, too. The discussions can be very eye-opening!
It took a while for me to reply, but I definitely wanted to give it a proper response.
Cheers! 🍻

For anonymous: a series of answers/clarifications/amendments on The Goldenrod Revisions! (I've answered these all in one post just to make it easier). Thank you so much for the asks, this helped me a) clarify my thoughts b) solve some canon continuity issues so I really appreciate them!
THANK U for agreeing to answer my questions! I'll have to ask them separately so they're not in 1 super-long impossible-to-read ask. I have 3 about 15x19, 1 about 15x20, 2 about 15x21, 2 about 15x22, and 2 about 15x23. quick disclaimer: i don't mean any offense at all by my question count! I didn't even notice these oddities the first time I read this; once I read it and accepted it as the true canon, I took a closer look and then noticed. but plz don't think these made your fic any less great!!
No worries anon! It is literally my pleasure to answer them and I am VERY very happy to find discrepancies with canon in the fic - then I can hopefully fix them and make the fic better :) Also I really appreciate the very systematic way you laid all these out, it really helped me reply, and also subsequently make a couple of edits to the fic!
For 15x19:
1. Why did Chuck trust Michael with the task of killing Jack? As God he should know Michael betrayed him in 15.08; did he expect Michael to disobey him again?
I think in this case we're/Chuck is relying on knowledge from the canon 15.19, i.e. Chuck would assume the outcome predicted by the show - that Michael WOULD betray the Winchesters/the world in order to please his father. So God assumed Michael would act the way he did in Inherit The Earth. But additionally, Chuck isn't actually very keyed-in to his own characters' motivations (esp. when love is involved) or very attached to certain results - he basically sends Michael and Lucifer to kill Jack because he figures it will entertain him no matter what happens - whether Michael and Lucifer kill each other, whether they kill the Winchesters/Jack, etc. - either Jack dies this way or Chuck will think of another way to do it.
2. How was Sam able to kill Lucifer? It was said only an archangel could kill another archangel with the archangel blade; was this a total lie or could Sam do it since he's Lucifer's true vessel? (plz don't change it to have Michael kill him; Sam being the one to do it was perfect, I just wanna understand how he could do it).
So glad you raised this because I honestly totally forgot! But now that you have, I have corrected that lore continuity with a line about biblical metaphors.
3. How is Rowena alive? She said she was dead in 15.08, so I initially assumed as a witch and the Queen of Hell she found a way to travel between Hell and Earth despite being dead. But then Sam says "Michael could've killed you" and then Chuck kills her twice in 15.21, both of which indicate she's alive here - does this mean Michael resurrected her when she summoned him?
God okay this is like - please call me out if this is incorrect or still confusing - but it's kind of like, based on the very inconsistent and confusing lore of the SPN afterlife that I assume Rowena is 'dead' but also 'alive' in the sense that Crowley was 'alive' and is now 'dead'. Does that make sense? She's not 'alive' as a human but rather as a demon (or something like it). So as Queen of Hell and a presumably demonic-adjacent entity, when she's 'killed' she gets sent to the Empty now vs. being 'killed' as a human and going to Heaven/Hell. (Based on when we see her in Hell, I assume she possesses her own body? Unclear. Just go with it. They've never been great with what it means to show vessels in Heaven/Hell etc.)
4. I thought asked all I wanted to know about Goldenrod but I just thought of 1 more thing: I don’t get why some dialogue implies Michael was dead? He mentions how he “found himself back on Earth” and tells the Empty it couldn’t stop Chuck from resurrecting him & Lucifer, but prior to 15.19 we last saw Michael leaving the bunker with Adam alive and well in 15.08, and it seemed like he was gonna stay on Earth for Adam’s sake. So what happened to him?
Oh that's a great point! I think that is actually just a confusing choice on my part that Chuck killed absolutely everyone including Michael/Adam in 15.18 Despair and THEN chose to resurrect Michael (but not Adam) alongside Lucifer when he was bored/wanting to kill Jack. I made some slight adjustments in-text to hopefully make it less confusing because I know that's different to the lore of canon 15.19 Inherit the Earth.
For 15x20:
1. How did the angels and demons in the Empty wake up? Did Michael use the last of his grace to wake everyone up? Were they already awake thanks to Jack blowing up in 15x18 or did they somehow sleep through that? (Not expanding on the Empty's claim that "you made it loud" is one of countless things I'll never forgive the actual show for, so THANK YOU for taking the show back to the Empty in the first place; I was just curious about this one element.)
So the Empty was already 'loud' according to canon, but since canon is vague on what exactly that means (thank you writers!...) I got the impression it meant the Empty wasn't 'peaceful' anymore but still powerful enough to suppress the beings inside, like the beings in there were awake and suffering but unable to rebel. Sort of what we see with Cas in this version of 15.20. Maybe like, additional suffering in sleep paralysis? Regardless, Michael does expend his grace to weaken the Empty enough that other beings wake up and/or are able to fight back and exist outside their own personal nightmare chamber. So whatever your impression of 'loud' is with regards to the other beings in there, assume Michael was able to free them from the Empty's control.
For 15x21:
1. Having Jack & Amara take out Hell & Purgatory was a BRILLIANT idea; I love that they ended all the places of suffering and changed the system. I just wonder - what happened to the souls and the demons still in Hell at that point, and the Leviathans and other monsters still in Purgatory? Were they just wiped out completely and sent to the Empty? Or did Jack turn them human and add them to the cycle? (I don't think the show clarified whether or not Leviathans have souls, so...)
No matter whether they were monster or demon or even angel, they would eventually be given human life. I broke it down to 'human enough souls' vs. 'not human enough souls'. Human-enough were immediately brought to life with memories and versions of their original bodies, and not-human-enough were sent to the Soul Queue to be born as infants. I assume Leviathan and most demons fall into 'not human enough', therefore, whatever tiny microbe of personality/soul they had was added to the cycle of rebirth and would be translated to a new human soul. Of course this might have a WILDLY different impact on the world depending on how many people go to hell in this system, how many people were 'human enough', etc.... But we're basically fudging those numbers a bit one way or another just to give certain characters the revival they deserve haha.
2. Did Cas drown and die after Chuck threw him in the lake and Jack left their limbo-dream world? If so, did he go through the same question-&-answer situation with Death that Sam & Dean did? Or was he with Jack & Amara when they rebuilt the world?
Cas was already dead/dying even when he was talking to Jack, he was sort of in a different version of the 'Veil' per se. VERY wishy-washy, but basically he and Jack were on a different dream-plane that they were jolted to in the chaos of the disorganised no-Death world.
I think Cas, Rowena, Lucifer, Michael, etc. as beings who were killed after the snap is a bit ambiguous. Rowena and Lucifer, I think, as entities who were demonic-dead or Empty-level-dead pre-Snap probably went through the reincarnation Yes/No Death questionnaire. Cas and Michael might not have since they were technically 'alive' and human before the Snap. Regardless, I think they probably wouldn't remember the interaction even if they had it.
The reason the question happened to the Winchesters AND that they remember it is Main Character Syndrome... they were the only people left alive when Jack and Amara did a hard reset, and that honestly Death took time to chill/exposition at them because he likes them. Really. Despite all appearances. Or respects them enough to let them know what's gone down, anyway.
Metatextually, it was really just to reaffirm to the audience that Dean (and Sam) want to live, in contrast to 15.20 Carry On 😅
3. Did all the snapped people (Eileen, Adam, the Waywards, etc.) also go through the Death question-&-answer process but not remember it, or did Jack & Amara just send them back?
Snapped people were reset automatically! Normally the new-humans also wouldn't remember their interactions with Death/reapers, just like in canon lore when someone like Dean has a near-death experience.
I realise this whole section and various other lore reformation parts of the fic aren't SUPER clear on specific logistics but on some occasions I'm like, I've done enough info-dumping, I don't want to overwrite exposition. But if you think it's worth clarifying certain points let me know and I can try to do so!
For 15x22:
1. The twenty something blonde guy in sunglasses getting hot tea, is that Belphegor? sure sounds like it but I wanted to confirm.
Yep!
2. Since Death mentioned that Jack only resurrected the angels, demons, and monsters from the Empty who had enough of a soul, and since all the human souls from the Veil went to Heaven as confirmed by Kevin's presence, how exactly are Anna's human parents and Bela alive now?
Great question - 1) I SOMEHOW FORGOT ANNA'S PARENTS DIED? Complete screw up on my part, I don't know how that happened. I fixed this so it's her grandparents now. 2) Bela was sent to Hell as part of her deal, so I was assuming she was a demon by this point in canon (since it would be... MANY Hell-years since she died.) Therefore she had a 'human' enough demon soul to be put back as a human.
3. Oh, and the tall woman with the flyer in 15.22; who is this supposed to be? Hannah I’m guessing?
To be honest I didn't have anyone in particular in mind for that scene; it was kind of a catch-all for missing characters like, it COULD be Hannah. It could be Raphael. Hell, it could be Abbadon. I didn't want to do a full shot of every single person missing from the cast who had died (esp since like - we wouldn't know who they were anyway! Their bodies would be different). So this one is literally just fill-in-the-blank. But if I had to assign a character there I'd say it would probably be one of the more arrogant angels like Raphael or Uriel.
For 15x23:
1. How is Bobby in the Roadhouse with the gang? 10x17 seemed to imply the angels were about to throw him in the dungeons to punish him for helping Cas; did Ash hack him out of prison, or was he never imprisoned at all? Also, is Jack not surprised to see another Bobby in Heaven because the boys already told him there was another Bobby besides the one he knows from Apocalypseverse? (I was half-expecting him to comment about that and confuse Bobby).
Oh that's a great point! I think that's another sort of fill in the blank since it's been five years since 10.17... even if he was in prison of some kind, I think it's likely either Ash helped him get out in the same way he helped everyone else, and since the angels were extremely short-staffed I doubt getting Bobby suitably imprisoned/punished was their top priority. But honestly I'm not super clear on how the angels intended to punish Bobby, I don't think canon is clear either... like, We Just Don't Know.
Finally I'd like to know, has Sam proposed to Eileen yet by the end of the final episode? The script doesn't mention a ring on her finger, and as Sam's fiancee, I'd assume she'd also have carved her name on the table. Sam mentions the innuendos Dean has said "in the past year," so it's been a while since Jack's prayer scene, yet Cas says Dean & Claire's argument was the last time they spoke, and it doesn't seem likely to me that Dean wouldn't call Claire in a year given how close they are...
Nope! I think Sam is saying 'I'm going to marry her' as a declaration of certainty of his feelings and faith in the future, not neccessarily as something that immediately happens. With regards to 'in the past year', that referred to the period when Eileen was alive during s15 as well! I assume Dean did teasing off-screen (and I mean, he did plenty on-screen too.)
I honestly think that Sam and Dean are just very very busy in the aftermath of the events of the 15.20 reset, like they have to deal with the new world AND try to wrangle all these hunters into this new system of collaboration. I didn't put Eileen on the table because she isn't there in the finale and because I do think the Sam/Dean/Cas/Jack family unit was a bit more central and important to the show, but maybe they add her (and any possible kids, if they have any) later on. God, imagine generations of hunters and/or Winchesters carving on that table. Sacred Artefact...
(1) Ok that's all the questions I have. Again, so sorry to blow up your inbox - I really appreciate your willingness to clarify these things! If there are some things you'd rather not explain and leave ambiguous, I totally get that. And in spite of these aforementioned confusing parts, I still ADORE your fic and will continue to read it whenever I feel like re-"watching" how Supernatural really ended! Thank you so much!! .... (2) I’m SO sorry to overload u! I know I asked a lot and I didn’t mean to sound like a hater saying “none of ur story makes sense”; that’s not what I meant at all! If this was a regular good ol fix it fic I wouldn’t have said anything but since u said u wanted it to wrap up the show as replacement canon, I thought maybe I should point out places that didn’t line up. But take as MUCH time as you need! Good for you working to meet your deadlines; I hope you succeeded!! And again I really appreciate you taking the time to answer whenever you have time—absolutely no rush!! Have a GREAT Memorial Day Weekend!!!
Anon thank you SO SO much for all these questions, as you can see it really helped me identify problems or straight up errors in my work wrt continuity and I'm so happy that means I can improve it. If any of the answers weren't clear or you think I should modify the fic to make certain things clearer than they are right now (other than the things I said I'd fix in-text for sure) let me know! It's really been a pleasure answering them too, I'm sorry it took me so long to get around to it, I actually went back and proofed/edited the whole fic as part of adding some of these corrections in (and that took like... three weeks...) and as you said, it's very important to me to get it as true to canon as possible so - yeah, just, once again, thank you!! You're wonderful! ♥♥♥

I am sorry but you have to do a part two as well as every other part up until 16 of your descriptions and your translations of the episodes. With all the background you know and explain. I am sorry but if you don't do it, I will definitely sue you for doing the first part in the first place! Now I am addicted and it is your fault.
Now 3 questions. What do you think about all the scenes with Ji- Ah before he knew she is Ah-Eum? Was he interested in her? I mean what reason would he have had to keep an eye on her always?
Did you ever think about the question wheter he loved Ji-Ah differently than Ah- Eum? After all she's STILL another person? And she had a point in saying that after that first kiss?
And finally... Were all the women looking like her before then completely other people- or was she reborn then as well, but it came never to a moment when he got to see the fox bead?
It's a lot. But you have to answer, I might go crazy otherwise.
Thank you!
Hahaha I’ve never been praised with apologies and threats before, but thanks? Your strategy is interesting, yet oddly effective. Don’t worry, I’m currently working on a write-up of episode 2. I’m glad you enjoyed the first one. ^ ^
As to your questions, I can only give you my educated opinion as a fan, but to my sense:
1) When you say ‘keep an eye on her always’ did you mean once they reunite when she’s an adult? I’m fairly sure that, while he did come back to check on her when she was little, he hasn’t been watching over her for the past 21 years. TvN released a deleted scene in which he looks her up on the internet to see what her deal is after Shin Joo tells him she’s trying to track him down. If he’d been watching over her, he wouldn’t have needed to do that. Also, his line to her at the end of episode 6, ‘So that’s how you’ve lived until now,’ implies that he didn’t know how she’d lived in the years since he saved her as a child.
As to whether Yeon was interested in her, I think the answer is yes, but not romantically. As Yeon says, foxes mate for life, so he had no interest or intention of falling in love with anyone other than Ah Eum (or rather, her reincarnation). He also tells Taluipa that it doesn’t matter to him what she looks like. I believe him on both fronts. At the same time, I think not being moved by the sight of Ji Ah when she looks exactly like Ah Eum would be pretty much impossible. She’s the living, breathing image of someone he loved and misses desperately.
But more than her looks, I think it’s who she is as a person that he’s drawn to. Ji Ah is smart, driven, and fearless. In the scene in episode 2 where she tells him, ‘I’m not threatening, I’m gambling,’ you can see from his expression that, despite his irritation at her having literally broken into his house and tranqed him, he’s also quite impressed with her for it. It’s worth noting, too, that it’s only after this encounter that he goes to find Taluipa guessing that Ah Eum has been reborn (with the same face, no less). Similarly, the reason he checks for the fox bead again when they’re on the island is that - despite having already tried and failed - he can’t help but see Ah Eum in who Ji Ah is, not just how she looks. And that’s, I think, why he can’t help but look out for her. Because he admires her as a person, and because he recognizes her. He only doubts himself because she doesn’t appear to have his fox bead.
2) This is a hard one. Ji Ah and Ah Eum are different people in the sense that they’ve lived different lives and possess different memories, and obviously our experiences and memories are an integral part of who we are. At the same time, they are the same person in the sense that they possess the same soul. Ji Ah is Ah Eum reborn. It’s not as if Ah Eum exists somewhere separate from Ji Ah. Ah Eum was reborn as Ji Ah, and Yeon, I believe, loves who that person is regardless of what path she’s walked in life or what memories she does and doesn’t possess. He tells her more or less as much in the letter he leaves her: ‘I liked the attitude with which you faced the world. I liked that, despite bearing a terrible fate on your shoulders, you didn’t thoughtlessly despair.’ I think this line really gets at the heart of what drew Yeon to Ji Ah in addition to being what he loves about her, and it’s a statement that was equally true of Ah Eum. Ji Ah and Yeon are kindred spirits in this way: the way in which they bear up under adversity, and the strength of character they each possess which allows them to do so.
When Ji Ah tells Yeon, “I’m not the shadow of your past,” I think she absolutely had the right end of things, and I think Yeon is wise enough to recognize that as well. Ji Ah can’t be ‘Ah Eum’ for Yeon one, because she doesn’t share those memories of their past with him, and two, because she has an entire lifetime’s worth of memories that Ah Eum never had. Moreover, 600 years have passed. Even if she did somehow remember her past life, in this life, she’s no longer an abandoned princess, and he’s no longer a mountain god. For them to live trying to recreate the days they spent together 600 years in the past would be an exercise in futility, if for no other reason than the fact that the world itself has undergone tremendous change since then. Ji Ah is asking Yeon to be in a relationship with her as she is here and now, and I think that Yeon should be commended for the grace with which he did exactly that.
3) I had this thought as well early on, and all I can say is, if that had been the case, then what a terrible tragedy that would have been. But I believe the answer is no, for a couple of reasons.
First off, Yeon was under contract to work for the Ten Kings of the Afterlife as a sort of enforcer in exchange for them allowing Ah Eum to be reborn. Because Ah Eum’s death was considered a suicide of sorts, she should have been ineligible for reincarnation. But Yeon cut a deal exchanging his service to the Ten Kings for her rebirth. Rang describes this as a sort of karmic ‘mileage points’ plan whereby Yeon builds up mileage points through his service, and once he has enough, Ah Eum gets to be reborn. If you flip that around, it means that he’s only under contract until she’s reborn. So since Yeon was still under contract at the start of the drama, I think we can safely assume that those other women were not, in fact, reincarnated versions of Ah Eum. That still begs the question of why he wasn’t let off the hook 30 years previously when Ji Ah was born, and I honestly don’t have a good answer for that. [Edit: tvN published something that says the contract ended when he realized Ji Ah was Ah Eum’s reincarnation].
Second, even barring the previous point, multiple supernatural characters - including Imoogi, who was reincarnated part and parcel with her - have stated that it took 600 years for her to be reborn. If those other women had been Ah Eum, they would also have been Imoogi as well, and I can’t imagine Imoogi would have just not tried to get revenge on Yeon if he’d had the chance before now.  Moreover, the fortune-teller (whose true identity is Tenth King of the Afterlife who presides over reincarnation) also says that Ji Ah was a princess in her previous life (i.e. the last time she was alive), and I would consider that to be fairly conclusive evidence.
So why bother with the look-alikes at all, right? On a narrative level, I mean. Very simply, I think we as viewers needed probable cause to believe that Yeon could meet someone who is Ah Eum’s spitting image and yet somehow not immediately realize it was her. If Yeon hadn’t seen women with her face over the centuries, then her appearance alone would have clinched it. So I view those other women as a way of introducing probable doubt. I don’t believe they were incarnations that Yeon failed to recognize.
Believe it or not, that is my short answer to your questions haha It’s ultimately only my own opinion, but hopefully it was helpful. =) @me-dreaming-out-loud

somewhere over the rainbow (under a harvest moon)
(you never set out to forge one of the most loved love stories in the world.
that’s a lesson she knows very well.)
irides is the name she chose, once upon a time when the world was younger that it will ever be again. it’s the name she sought, the name amongst the many she tried that seemed to fit.
they call her the spirit of rainbows. they say her eyes are clear as crystal and that her pupils are shaped like diamonds; they say her hair is the colour of freshly fallen snow and beams of coloured light reflect off it. they say she dances during rain showers and that her joy creates the multicoloured arcs of light she’s known for.
they’re not completely wrong about the dancing part, but attributing all rainbows to her happiness seems… like something of an overstatement, maybe.
irides knows she can’t be present for every shower of rain, that’s just not feasible, but the romanticism of it charms her. she knows many spirits look on the way the humans know them by in amusement, or disdain, or even apathy, but she finds it whimsical and magical and utterly charming.
she delights in the reactions her rainbows bring, delights in the smiles she sees, delights in the laughter. it’s why she creates rainbows, with her own intent, whenever she gets a chance, regardless of season.
spring rainbows are fitting for the season of rebirth, fitting for the awakening flowers and stirring animals.
in summer, she makes them especially vibrant to make up for the rain that heralds their arrival in the season of life.
autumn, season of giving, she wanders fields and orchards ready for the harvest, ready to decorate the sky.
the season of death brings with it a desire to lighten the air for even just a little while, to make the rain seem more bearable.
she dances barefoot wherever she goes, ignores the burn of sand warmed by the sun, ignores the burn of ice and snow in winter.
(you never set out to forge a love between spirits of different domains.
that’s a fact he knows well.)
messis was the name he was created with, etched into his soul and his mind and his being. perhaps he’d change it, perhaps another name would call to him, but the likelihood of that is slim when he considers how long he’s existed.
messis, spirit of the harvest. giving beast who brings the wheat and the corn and the apples. amber beast who guards the fields and brings prosperity.
they say his eyes are dark as treacle and gilded with the colours of autumn. they say his teeth are sharp and his nails are closer to claws. they say he stands in the fields when it comes time for the crops to be gathered, waiting for the harvest to start. they say he walks through the orchards in the form of some great beast.
in part, they are right. in part, they are wrong.
shapeshifting has never been one of his capabilities. his body remains the same with its too many teeth and its sharp claws, with its dark eyes and scowling face, with the voice that rumbles and growls and reverberates depending on mood. he can understand why they call him a beast, at least when he’s angry.
and he doesn’t stand in the fields waiting. he wanders from town to town, with their corn and their wheat, and observes as the harvest starts in that one town before moving onto the next one.
standing in the fields would take up far too much of his time, because do you know how many fields there are compared to the one spirit of the harvest?
the humans and their views on what the spirits do when it comes to their domains continues to baffle him, even to this day.
but still he finds himself more fondly bemused than anything else, unable to work up true irritation or anger at the ideas that they spread.
unlike some spirits he could name.
(you never set out to forge a love story between two spirits of vastly different domains, never expect it to become one of the most loved stories in the world.
this is something they both realise.)
the stories never go into the specifics of their meeting, never in any way that matters at least.
they never talk about:
irides dancing in the midst of an autumn shower, weaving her way through the rows of apple trees with a smile on her face to put the spirit of the sun to shame. a rainbow follows overhead, bright and clear in response to her joy.
messis stalking his way through the orchard, watching the rain fall down through the leaves, unaware of the rainbow forming overhead. rain showers are never his favourite, he’s never been fond of the effort needed to dry his hair.
neither are aware of the other spirit, neither know that when messis turns a corner he’ll be met with the spirit of the rainbow. only irides knows that she’ll be laughing and smiling and dancing, only messis knows that he’ll stop to watch in a burst of curiosity and amusement.
neither know that they will continue to have meetings like this, in rain and in autumn more often than not, but the locations change as do the seasons and the years.
what they will talk about is this:
they will talk about declarations of love under full moons, at a time when neither have reason to be where they are. there is no rain, there is no harvest, but there are two spirits who’s domains were never meant to collide.
they will talk about a spirit who dances and drags her companion along with her; they will talk about a spirit who walks through forests with another at his side.
they will talk about vows spoken in a village between the forest and the sea, with no one but the rain and the autumn leaves as their witnesses.
they will talk about a curious event. they will talk about wheat that grew in all the colours of the rainbow. they will talk about corns with kernels coloured in pastels. they will talk about apples growing in far more colours than green and red.
they will talk about how a spirit of the sky wed a spirit of the land.
they will talk about irides and messis, the rainbow and the harvest.
they will always talk, because the reminders will always be there.
