his autism makes it a bit hard for him to show his affection/emotions, but he really does try his best.

red loves being generally around you. there doesn't need to be a conversation– or even any touching for that matter, just being in your presence gives him a sense of comfort.
red speaks in a very monotonous voice, not intentionally of course, but it does cause confusion in translation. what makes it even worse is that sarcasm is literally his main sense of humor.
"hon, i left some chives in the fridge. can you go fetch them for me, please?" your boyfriend hummed. the smell of fresh cut onions frying in olive oil filled your nostrils. red was preparing some kind of dish, but he refused to tell you what it was. you about drooled imagining all the possibilities; no matter what it was, you knew red was bound to make it delicious.

red unironically loves to cook, so his love language is to feed you with his culinary specialities.
he has an over 200 page recipe book that would be illegible and unorganized without the help of duck with a variety of dishes from tiramisu to korean style corn dogs.
the only thing he won't even think about cooking is red meat. it reminds him too much of organs and that makes him physically sick to his stomach.
if you guys are making bread or something, red will press his body close against yours and guide your hands while softly whispering you instructions.
"why do you keep staring at (name) like that?" yellow bellowed, his head tilted to the side with curiosity. red snapped his focus towards yellow. his tone was mildly harsh as he responded, "what? i'm not staring. i'm just looking at them. am i not allowed to look at my own partner anymore?" duck scoffed, flipping through the newspaper absent-mindedly. "don't get all defensive, he does have a point, it's quite... awkward to watch on the sidelines." before red could come up with a snarky remark, you pranced in, looking as happy as can be. duck smirked while yellow became a giggly mess. you didn't understand what the commotion was about, but red looked like he was about to explode.

even in the long term, red acts like you're simply unreachable like his chances of ever finding his real family.
he absolutely adores viewing you from afar. your like some kind of abstract painting to him: weird, confusing, yet so beautiful in his eyes.
he even has little fantasies and daydreams about you two, but red keeps the thoughts to himself, afraid you may debunk his ideas entirely.
his two mates tease him to hell about you two, but he always keeps his cool no matter much he wants pop their little skulls open.

i love being cringe. we are all cringe. we are all free.
pre-relationship ~
red isn’t someone who wears every emotion on his sleeve like yellow, but he doesn’t necessarily act all haughty to cover up any of his emotions like duck.
red is very practical and so emotions, along with other abstract concepts like creativity, aren’t a high priority in his mind.
this doesn’t mean he doesn’t feel anything, of course he does, but when he talks, he isn’t typically thinking of how someone feels when he says it.
he’s very much a “we’ll cross that bridge when we get there” guy in regards to emotions on paper, but when he actually DOES get to that bridge he . doesn’t know how to cross it LMAO
this is why he doesn’t really call the others his friends; it doesn’t mean he doesn’t like them or even that he hates them, he just doesn’t really know how to handle relationships and emotions too well
that being said, it’s very difficult for red to process having romantic feelings, let alone be in a relationship.
if it weren’t for the fact that he’s bunched up with two other puppet twats (my words, not his ♡), red wouldn’t really have any friends. he doesn’t go out of his way to form connections with people.
so even if red acknowledges his developing feelings, he is very, very unlikely to act on them at all.
and by god, he is so relieved when you tell him and he doesn’t have to.
he feels a bit bad about it, he wishes he could be more brave about it (especially since he thinks it’s silly he’s so afraid of expressing how he feels).
early relationship ~
red feels relieved that you confessed (or if he confessed, he’s glad he at least got that out of his system).
but then he’s struck by the fear of how to approach you or talk to you or do anything with you since you’re both... Official.
to say red doesn’t understand the logistics of relationships would be an understatement.
of course he knows couples hold hands and hug and kiss and all that other stuff, but it feels weird when he even thinks about doing it himself.
if you initiate, he’ll be shy, but he certainly won’t dislike it.
it’s just the idea that he’s the one doing it, that’s what he’s afraid of.
he makes the mistake of even lightly discussing it with duck, who, depending on his mood, will either list every unrealistic ideal from romance literature, or will spout about how love is just a chemical and has no meaning. it’s a coin toss.
either way, it’s not exactly helpful.
and discussing love with yellow is... well, it just reminds him of a “baby pigeon” and that is apparently very distressing.
so that leaves red with himself. and internalizing all of that.
you do notice that he’s a bit more different than usual; you know him well enough to see the subtle changes in his body language and how he talks.
he’ll deny and deny, but eventually, he crumbles.
it didn’t really occur to him that he could talk to you about his insecurities and the pressure he feels.
after that, he tries to work on communicating with you more and not internalizing everything so much.

red isn’t a pda guy, but he is definitely affectionate.
most of the affection he gives is in private, and if he’s giving affection in Public, it’s usually small stuff like handholding.
oddly insecure about his teeth because he can’t really... kiss you. just reassure him that it doesn’t make a difference and that u still like him for him, kiss or no kiss ♡
red is especially touchy when he’s super tired, it’s part of why he doesn’t like staying up late.
and he is definitely the big spoon, he’s just like a big mop dog so expect him to either cradle you or just land on top of you.
unless you’re super tall, he is definitely taller than you. and since he can’t kiss you, he just likes to lean his head over yours as a cute gesture ♡
days where both of you do nothing... amazing.......
red isn’t very verbal with affection, but he will, every now and then, say that he loves you, but he always means it, he’s just shy.
you will have to knock some sense into him and the others when they get into arguments. no chainsaws in the house please 😑

Bright colors shine through the windows of the small pink house, cascading off the checker print tiles. This light however, was suddenly dashed with a grunt from a green feathered bird as he slammed shut a curtain. "Ugh, can't the sun move somewhere else, it's ruining my light..." The bird grumbles, readjusting the mirror he has set up on the kitchen table. "Y'alright?" A tall red man asks absentmindedly from the other side of the table, not bothering to look up from his paper. "No! I'm not alright. I'm trying to brush my hair, and the sun is blinding me." The third and final member of the table perks up at this, now interjecting.
"But, you don't have hair, you're a bird." The yellow boy says, head tilted in confusion as he shovels cereal into his mouth. "Feathers are hair for birds, idiot." Duck snaps, The yellow one looks down sadly at this, a slight whine as he goes back to his cereal.
After a few minutes, Red sighs and puts down his paper. "Y'know, I thought something would have happened by now." He says. Duck's brow furrows as he looks up from his mirror, setting down his comb. "You're right, I'm bored. Someone do something. Call someone." He orders. "Call someone? Do we have a phone?" Yellow asks. "Nah, I think that electric person took it a few days ago, remember?" The three shiver at the memory of the small electric girl, and the sounds she made when they swapped her batteries. Duck snaps out of it first, and throws his mirror off the table. "Well, find something to do-" "What's this?" Yellow interjects, picking up the newspaper.
"DON'T INTERRUPT ME!" Duck screeches, only to be ignored by Red. "It's a newspaper." "But what's this say?" Yellow points to an ad, that reads 'Roomate wanted, apply at address below'. Red takes the paper from him, looking closer. "S' a roommate ad. Y'know, for people you live with, like us." He explains, before pausing. His eyes narrow. "Huh. This is our address." Duck snatches the paper. "Our address-" He looks up, even more annoyed. "You put out an ad for another roommate? Am I not enough?". Red shakes his head. "I didn't put out an ad, and he probably didn't either." He glances at yellow. "I don't even think he can read." Red continues to examine the ad, trying to ignore Duck's squabbling. In all this noise, Yellow seems to be the only one to hear a knock on the front door. He hops down from his chair, and heads out of the kitchen. "Where's he going?" Duck asks. The two follow him and peek around the doorframe, watching as he opens the door.

"Uhm, hello?" You greet, looking down at the odd yellow fellow. "Hello!" He greets you, staring up at you blankly. You wait a few moments, but he doesn't go on. "Oh, for god's sake-" A green bird in a tweed jacket pushes him aside with a grunt. "Who're you?" He asks, eyeing you up and down with furrowed brows. "I'm Y/N, I saw an ad in the paper." You reach into the bag hanging at your side and pull out the scrap of paper. "Yeah, says here 'Roomate wanted'.". You try to hand the bird the paper, but he swats it away. "We've seen the ad, we didn't send it! Go away!" He squawks, attempting to shut the door. A red foot stops it from closing all the way, and a much larger red figure looks down at the bird. "Hold on now, come on. You wanted something to do today, maybe we could use a new roommate." The red man proposes.
"What, No! There's three of us! Just three of us!" The bird exclaims. Once more, the two characters argue back and forth, leaving you confused and feeling awkward on there doorstep. "I'm Yellow. It's nice to meet you, roommate!" The yellow man says, extending a hand happily. "Wha- Oh, no! My name isn't roommate, my name is Y/N." You correct, shaking his hand gently. "So Roomates your last name?" Before you can respond, the duck coughs loudly to get your attention.
"Alright, Roommate. We have decided to allow you to stay here, as long as you're entertaining to me." Duck says. "No, I made the decision you could stay, I pay the rent." Red says. "Do you?" He rolls his eyes. "We've got a spare room, upstairs, to the left. You can set up there." Red offers. "We can have bunk beds!" Yellow exclaims, and Red shakes his head. "No, they'll have their own room." Duck nods in agreement. "But... how can you have bunk beds in two different rooms..." Yellow trails off.
"Thank you! I'll go drop my stuff off now." You thank them and head past the duck, into the house and up the stairs. "You think they'll last?" Duck asks, glancing at tred. "W-what?" Yellow asks, worry evident in his voice. "I mean, anyone new we meet pretty much leaves at the end of the day, so they probably will too." Red shrugs. "I mean, I guess it's possible. Just enjoy it while there here." He heads back into the kitchen. "But, I don't want them to leave, I like Roommate." Yellow whines. Duck only scoffs. "Please you just met them." He moves to follow Red, before stopping and turning back to say,
"and there name isn't roommate."

Like he'll come over and take you hand before saying "I'm sorry, can I help you with anything?"
That instantly makes the person who was bothering you go running
You looked up and him and smiled, thanking him

Platonic DHMIS trio × reader
AN: yellow guy is called David, red guy is Redd, and duck is just Duck. This is really short but I liked how it turned out.
CW: none, just fluff
You and David were cuddling on the couch. You had your legs crossed with him seated in your lap as your arms hugged his torso. He leaned back against your chest the watching TV, which displayed some random shopping channel.
Duck walked into the living room and say you two, "What are you doing?" He asked. "Cuddling!" David responded enthusiastically and threw his hands in the air. "Why? He's not a baby, you know." Duck directed this statement to you. "Well, I like holding him, and he likes being held; so I don't see anything wrong with it." you stated, and David added, "It's like a really really long hug."
Duck crossed his arms, "Well, I still think it's a bit odd. You agree with me, right?" Duck directed his attention to Redd, who was sitting in a recliner next to the couch, reading. "I think It's quite nice actually." He looked up from his book at his feathered friend, "What?"
"Yeah. I've cuddled with them before. It's relaxing, you should try it sometime." Duck let out a little 'hmph', "I'm quite alright, thank you. Do whatever you all please."
"Suit yourself." Redd set his book down and moved to the couch. He sat next to you and leaned his head on your shoulder. You wrapped an arm around him and kept the other around David. Duck stared at you all for a moment, before throwing his hands up, "Ugh, fine! If you all insist."
None of you were insisting anything, but this was just how Duck was. He acted like minor things were an inconvenience, but you all knew it was just because he had a hard time accepting affection.
He sat on the couch and pressed into your other side. He didn't lean on you like Redd, he was more sitting very close to you, which was fine; whatever made him comfortable.
You all relaxed, the sound of the TV providing a comfortable background noise as you sat in silence. None of you needed to speak, your combined presences were enough.

((A/N: First request for Red Guy! Sorry this took a while, I wasn't really sure where I wanted to go with this at first but I figured it out eventually))
— Red Guy normally doesn't say much and when he does it's normally just a quick "You look nice today" or "That outfit is cool". Even then, Yellow Guy and Duck will tease him relentlessly about it, so he tends to keep quiet.
— But if you two are alone without them to pick on him, he becomes a lot more verbose. It's adorable to see his normally stoic demeanor dissolve as he gushes about you.
— He's very observant and notices so many little things about you, which he'll recount to you later in a big long list of reasons why he loves you.
— This also means he's great at noticing when you're feeling a little down or self-conscious and need a little reassurance.
— If you compliment him, he'll act like he's not that bothered but he secretly he loves it. If you keep going the signs will start to slip through like his slightly raised shoulders or an ever so slight stutter.

i love this request and i love you. bc i've been DYING to write abt him since forever and i've just been flat out of ideas
is anyone surprised that red "i can't wait to sit around and do nothing all day" guy is a cuddler.
he enjoys lazing around as per usual, but he especially enjoys doing it w u !
he's not super keen on the idea of pda and cuddling in front of everyone; cuddling is mostly reserved for days when it's only the two of you in the living room, with you propped on his lap while his arms are wrapped around your midsection, or at night when you both are lying in bed cuddling :)

it's no surprise that when you're sitting on red's lap while on the big chair that he... eventually falls asleep. he doesn't let go of you, but his grip loosens and out of the corner of your eye, you can see tufts of yarn fly in the air from his quiet snores.
listen red seems super nonchalant, he doesn't care, etc, etc... but he is the clingiest mf known to man
he relies on you after nightmares, when before he'd keep them to himself as he'd stare at the ceiling, waiting for the memory to fade so he can close his eyes again without flinching.
often times, he's not gonna want to talk about the... contents of the nightmare, and instead turns to you and holds onto you.
as long as you don't push him away, he's a happy red guy :)
