Just in time for #AAPI Heritage Month, I decided to draw inspo not just from the koi fish Tui and La from Avatar: The Last Airbender, but from Guru Pathik who teaches Aang about chakras. Fantascale, the Fishy Myth Monstar, has arrived
Description:
"An elusive creature, they tend to hang about running bodies of water, such as rivers and streams. Their scales shine all sorts of colors when exposed to UV lights. Many fishing villages say that Fantascale are the many embodiments of an ancient deity from myths."
Fantascale's name comes from both FANTASY and SCALE, referencing Fantascale's role in local lore and to their iridescent scales under sunlight. Fantascale are directly inspired by koi fish, which come in all sorts of colors, ranging from orange to white to black and many more.
The colorful koi that we know today are called nishikigoi and resulted from mutations that arose after koi began to be raised in ponds and selectively bred. In Japanese culture, koi are heavily likened with samurai in their symbolism and behaviors. In fact, Chinese myth speaks of a koi ascending over a waterfall in order to become a dragon...
Thus, Fantascale transforms into its other form!
Introducing Fantascale, the Waterfall Legend Monstar!
Description:
"After remembering its true nature from centuries before, Fantascale ascends to a new draconic form. Now that it is infused with draconic might, it floats in midair through the use of the mysterious mist that encircles its body. It is said that each scale that drops off of its body creates a new, albeit more primitive, Fantascale."
Fantascale's new form is called its Legend Form, and its previous form was called its Myth Form. Now in a new state, it more closely resembles an Eastern dragon, and the mist that surrounds it is meant to resemble the flowing mane and flames in traditional Chinese and Japanese artwork.
The primary focus of Fantascale is of the legend of the Chinese Dragon Gate, in which thousands of koi attempt to swim upstream and reach a waterfall, where most give up. However, a lucky few persevere and ascend the waterfall, being awarded by the gods by turning into a true dragon. This is also the legend that Magikarp and Gyarados from Pokemon are based on, though I attempted to make Fantascale's Legend Form more mystical in nature through the swirling mist and ethereal levitation.

Notes: I have no clue if Douma is in character for this, but I’m trying anyway.
Some mild spoilers for Douma’s Blood Demon Art? But I don’t really go into detail, I only mention his weapon and what his ability does.
I also stole the backstory of my kny character that I never published here (though I hadn’t figured out the pairing for that yet).

You were a peculiar character to Douma. Mostly because you never showed your face.
You were a fellow demon, a low-level one. Though he learned it wasn’t because of any lack of talent on your part. On the contrary, you were quite powerful and had a myriad of clever and dirty tricks up your sleeve. You just never tried to get more power from Master Muzan. You were content to hide away in your little lair and eat whatever cocky demon slayer or regular human came by.
The more he got to know you and your tricks, the more he decided he wanted you for his own.
So he started “conveniently” being in the area whenever you ventured out of your little house with pristine tatami mats and sliding doors. It wasn’t anything remarkable, just a small Japanese-style home with a koi pond just on the edge of the Engawa.
He discovered you mostly left your house to get more food for your fish. A mask always hid your face and your scissors in the sleeve of your kimono in case anyone got handsy with you.
Which he also discovered happened more often than he would like. But he very well couldn’t do anything about it unless he wanted you to catch him. And he didn’t want that. Not yet, at least.
When you finally did manage to catch him in his games, you weren’t upset like he was expecting. You were curious.
“What would Upper Moon Two want with someone like me?” You ask, voice muffled through the ceramic and paint of your okame mask. The rosy cheeks mocked him, and he yearned to just rip it off and look upon your features. But that would scare you off. And he didn’t want that. Despite loving the idea of fear coloring your eyes.
He gets the chance to see your face when he watches you almost die.
You were dodging a swipe from a young demon slayer’s sword glinting a light blue in the moonlight. Douma watched from the trees, rainbow eyes flicking this way and that as the two of you traded blows. The demon slayer—a young boy of seventeen or eighteen—had cuts littering his face from your scissor blades, and your kimono was soaked in your blood from already healed wounds.
Your white hannya mask is almost blinding in the light of the silver moon. Douma knows it’s just a trick of the light under the stars. But it’s stunning regardless.
He steps in when you’re pinned against a tree by the Nichirin sword through your shoulder. The demon slayer stands triumphantly before you as he draws a shorter sword from its sheath on his opposite hip.
Just as the blade comes down to sever your head from your neck, Douma whips out one of his gold-plated fans and freezes the demon slayer with his Blood Demon Art. The ice coats the slayer from his head to his toes, and Douma can see the frostbite settling in from underneath the ice.
You stumble away from the tree, tearing the Nichirin blade from your shoulder where the wound was already healing. In the blast of his fan, the ice had torn the mask from your face and shattered it against the ground, exposing your features for the world to see.
Brutal scars slit your mouth from the corners of your lips to your ears. They’re jagged and puckered and colored a perpetual angry red as if you had just received them. But if he were to guess, you had received them long ago. Likely when you first became a demon by Akaza’s hand—a fact he learned long after you two became acquainted.
You had first gotten your scars when your husband flew into a violent rage after learning you could not bear him children, claiming you had mothered a child with someone else and was refusing to give him an heir.
You had killed him with a blow to the head.
Soon after, Akaza had found you covered in the blood of your husband’s head wound.
Never before had Douma wanted to thank Akaza for anything. But now he wanted to thank him for letting him meet you.
Your relationship was a carefully cultivated thing. One built on trust on your part and scheming on his. But nevertheless, you two grew closer than Douma had planned. Until one day…
“Will you let me fall in love with you?” You whisper, face close and nose brushing his own. If he moved at all, he would have kissed you.
And so he did.
Just lightly, gently, as if he wasn’t even there. You inhaled, surprised, but you didn’t pull away. You press closer, a hand coming up to touch his unblemished face. Your hand is soft, like a feather. And he loved it as much as a demon could.
But Douma pulled away with a mischievous smile.
“Only if I can fall right back.” He teased and delighted when you smiled. It was a bit twisted with your scars marring your face. It was beautiful nonetheless.
“I’ll be sure to catch you when you do.” You breathe and lean in to kiss him again.
He grins against your lips. A small smile that twisted his features. But you couldn’t tell. Not when you pulled away and hid your face in your hands in utter joy.
Oh, the plans he had for you.

the thing about taylor swift is all her actual easter eggs are so obvious. like big koi fish in a music video or releasing something on august 9 for 8/9. or a huge mural, or a roman numeral. pretty obvious, easy-to-flag stuff, and usually presented as part of her professional life, in a music video or on tour, not her personal one. the “easter eggs” the gaylors are talking about are not at all in line with the easter eggs she actually releases. people who think she’s gay are invasive and taking rpf way too far. tbh. and i love a tasteful smattering of rpf just not when you harass the actual real person about it
I’m not, like, saying it’s good to write a long form oped analyzing someone’s sexuality and I’m not a swiftie so maybe I’m off about the degree to which she encourages reading too much into things. But as an outsider who casually enjoys some swift songs and has some swift on the dash, the vibe I get is that she’s always like “oh my fans and I have developed these secret crazy codes and references that I drop in songs and outfits and posts” and what I see quoted from that op-ed (against my will) was also pointing out supposedly queer themes in her work (not saying the author didn’t also point to things in her personal life but what I saw was about queer themes in her work, which…I disagree those are queer themes but whatevs).
Anyway no hate to Ms. Swift but I just feel like if I encouraged people to associate x color dress with x specific meaning and then people turned around and said “wearing a rainbow dress is intentionally gay” I’d be like “lol so true I’m enjoying my one billion dollars and don’t care about this”

Direct, Solyss (Rainbow) + Kip (Ember) I like this name because he’s an insecure healer who took a long time to pass his apprenticeship, so it seems fitting.
Ghostclover | Kepbachafa
I thought this name would make sense as a name for a suspected fading kit who lived. In game she’s a mtf trans Molly, but I decided that she was actually assigned a Gib at birth since the fading kit thing. She later figured out she contained Mollyness.
Tempestecho | Kychkarraoyaawo
This one was pretty direct too, and I think it’s a good candidate for a nickname due to the length. Maybe Kychaawo?
Fintwist | Sseoshigashig
Fintwist kinda brings to mind a fish twisting it’s fin to turn around for whatever reason, so I think dance works for that. Nickname could be Sseoshig.
Curlewback | Byyrbesaofa
Went with the sand martin to keep the shorebird connection! Also, used spine-mane since I couldn’t find a word for back.

Decided to go with the tawny owl over the color since he isn’t that color, and has a weather suffix. ‘Bafwu’ seemed the closest to gale to me so I went with that.

No I don’t know what this name means either? Sounds like an off-brand Lionblaze.
Fallenbird | Fewlwheer
This name struck me as an Honor title, and he spawned in with a bite scar, which makes that fit even more. I like to think his original names prefix was Wheer, so the Honor title represents how the swift fell, but got back in the air.
Riverlotus | Sbasspowo
I’m glad I managed to find the word for the waterlily, I wanted to show this name off, I love it.
Falconlaurel | Mweeliliprraponma
This was an interesting one, for sure! I wanted to go with an actual falcon species, instead of just going with Raptor/Yassga. This guys a mediator, so I went with the merlin. There wasn’t a word for laurel I could find but I thought that I could translate the vibe, since laurel brings to mind honor and triumph. I decided that, for a mediator, Prra-ness would be an associated feeling/goal, so I chose Primrose (Prraponma) as the suffix because of the winter association example. So his name, could also be translated back as Merlinprimrose, or just Merlinrose for short. Nickname could be Mweeponma?
Springbreak | Mwarussmimanaw
Honestly I just wanted show off that I got a cat named Springbreak. Anyways I went with it being Spring as in the season, and decided that I would use mimanaw (lounge) instead of anything related to breaking/shattering, to make it so that her name basically means a break in Spring. Though, Springbreak could be a good Dishonor title, Yiaokerroch. Jump-shatter, you hurt yourself by springing. Anyways nickname could be Mwanaw.
Branchripple | Baryennipa
I decided to use the future tense of ripple, to make the name mean that she will make the branches ripple. She graduated early, so its to say that she will make an impact.
Fintwist is absolutely drawing me in, fantastic use of the brand new "fin-wing." I've got an image in my mind of one of them decorative dragon koi, swirling around and around.
Koi aren't common in Clan territory, and when they ARE seen they're dealt with, but it's also possible for this one species I like a lot to have a light, shining morph. I should make a special word for that color of Tench when I get there...
Also congrats on Springbreak that's AWESOME I love it. And Logblaze? Sounds like a big bonfire to me! Maybe your cats like to BBQ ThunderClan-style!

Bayshine's name is BAY LAUREL-Shine, Skokashem. Oops. I will be repurposing the Wawa word in the Lexicon to a different type of willow.
Cherry Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus) = Reyoka
Both of these are made into laurel wreaths btw, and the wood is burned because it smells nice. This one has red berries and less uses in general, but smells nicer when burned.
Gale = Harloo
A very strong wind.
White Clover (Trifolium repens) = Glem
This is the one you think of when you think of a classic three-leaved clover. It has short, round petals, and its flowers are typically white. This one is favored by grazing animals.
Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) = Powglem
This one has pinkish flowers with longer petals, and is used for medicinal purposes. This is the one used for Cloverfoot's name.
