#python scripting
Text
I wrote another script! Mirroring UVs takes a 4-5 clicks depending on how to you do it, so I condensed those clicks down to one operator. This time, I did not use ChatGPT; now that I understand the basic format, the digital hallucinations take more time to correct than they're worth. Now I need to figure out how I can combine scripts into one convenient add-on.
HOT TIP: you can enable Python Tooltips in preferences and this will reveal the python path of any action in Blender. Turning on Developer Extras lets you copy those python paths, among other things. It makes this kind of scripting way easier!

Who wants to see the closest thing the Bugsnax journalist has to a full model, doing various animations?! Well, I did. So I made this in Blender, and put them in Clumby's office because why not. The specific animations:
Orange journalist: Idle Yellow journalist: Running Green journalist: Crouching Black journalist: On fire (fire not pictured) White journalist: Activating the Lunchpad (Lunchpad also not pictured. Maybe it's just offscreen?) Purple journalist: Using the Snakgrappler
Only the arms and lower body are textured, because only the arms and lower body actually exist in the game. The upper body is a less-detailed model used to cast the player character's shadow. It's not like you're going to look at their shadow in the game and notice that they don't have eyelids. You can barely even tell that they have an overbite. I've checked. Anyway, I made the shadow-only part the same colour as the top of the legs, but they kind of look like they're made of rubber. With fuzzy pants on.
The arms are actually a separate model to the rest of the body, in both the in-game model and the shadow model, and I'm like 95% sure I attached them correctly. The in-game and shadow versions of the arms have slightly different animations, and the in-game arms seem to attach to the camera, which is behind where the nose would be in the shadow model. I'm using the in-game arms here, since they're more detailed, but I attached them to the top of the spine where it would make more sense for them to be, and had to do some weird stuff with constraints to stop them from sliding all over the place.
Also, the in-game arms have individually animated fingers, which not even the NPC Grumpus models have, allowing me to do this:
"Thanks, Chandlo. You really

'slam-dunked'
my questions."
(I want to make it completely clear that I posed the model like that. The other poses are from the game, but that one's mine, I'm sure someone who knew what they were doing would make it look a lot better)
(They definitely did quotation fingers during that line. Search your feelings. You know it to be true)
There's also a secret to the model's blank expression! Or at least a detail you can't normally see. Since there's no texture, you can't see their pupils, but if you turn on wireframe...

Soviet Movie Club(tm): March
So far we're having a Smoktunovsky party: For the Sunday series, we're having Little Tragedies, a 3-parter adaptation of Pushkin's works of the same name. Mozart vs Salieri, Don Juan, a feast among the plague and other stories presented in a Weird Vibe that really makes the show stand out. Lots of celebs involved and a few haunting tunes too.
For this Saturday March 2nd, we're revisiting Uncle Vanya. The only thing to do here is to simp because the movie doesn't provide anything else so be obliged.

i didn't want to wait forever for my overly-parallel yt-dlp script but i also didn't want to download one at a time when the youtube api is rate-limited, so here we are patching my script w/ a prototype threads flag to set the number of concurrent yt-dlp instances to call and to split the input urls accordingly.
need some logic for intelligent handling of danglers, but that can be switched on if len(urls) % threads != 0 and just means we take (len(urls)/threads) + 1 until len(urls) < len(urls)/threads) and then dump the remainder into the last thread. i think ? i might need to check that produces the correct number of threads at the end.
am eepy, so logic brain not super fired up d:
the whole thing needs a major refactor anyway, and i need a better monitoring solution than calling watch on the abduco session list, and having ^C trigger killing all the sessions regardless of finished status. might instead call mprocs (whether or not i keep the abduco sessions) and monitor that way.

Sam loves Dean’s back, loves it, loves the curves of muscle and the freckles scattered over his shoulders and especially loves the way those strong pretty lines dip down to the gorgeous swell of his ass–and now–god, Sammy, come on, Dean’s mumbling, fuck-sore and tired, sprawled out flat, come on–and Sam pulls out, finally, shifts back and lifts up on shaky thighs and kneels high over Dean’s beautiful perfect back, his dick straining and slick and he only has to jerk himself four, five times, and then–”Oh, fuck,” he says, stupid with it, hips thrusting forward, and then–oh, yeah, he spurts hard and long, stripes up all that lovely skin, balls unloading all over his brother. Dean buries his face in the sweat-soaked sheets, breathing hard, and Sam sinks down to sit on his thighs, strength suddenly sapped. He holds his spent twitching dick and watches the white roll down in runnels into the valley of Dean’s spine, a little puddle forming in the dip between the dimples just above his ass.
“Makin’ a mess, Sammy,” Dean mumbles, shifting a little so his back arches, his ass lifting up against Sam’s weight.
Sam swallows, and runs his thumb through it, a creamy stripe sliding all the way up Dean’s spine to the back of his neck. “Give me a minute,” Sam says, voice some distant thing. Dean turns his head, looks over his shoulder with heavy eyes. “We can make a bigger one.”

GATHER ROUND EVERYONE, for the moment you've all been waiting for...
GIRL DINNER STUDIES 2023 RESULTS
(obtained with the power of SCIENCE!! also known as tumblr polls.)
methodology
you were all here for this. i made a bunch of posts with the format:
an image
a 24-hour poll entitled "does this constitute girl dinner" and options "yes", "no" "wicked hard to say", and "vanilla extract (see results)"
optionally, tags explaining a pertinent aspect of the image (e.g. one of the images was a plate with a few scattered cat kibbles on it, and my cat, as we all inform her dozens of times a day, is a girl, so i mentioned this in the tags)
i didn't feel like mucking with the tumblr api for long enough to obtain the exact vote count, but all the polls were in the 30-40 vote range, so i was able to exactly determine the vote count for each poll option from the rounded-to-one-decimal-place percentage that tumblr displays. i threw out the "vanilla extract" counts and then because i'm not a statistician or anything i just jammed all this data into python:
Tumblr media
(if this weren't a throwaway script i might have made these namedtuples but it is a throwaway script soooooo)
eyeballing the poll results, it was readily apparent that for some of my test images you were all very confident that they Were or Weren't girl dinner, whereas others were more controversial, so i wanted to come up with some sort of confidence metric -- basically, a poll with low "wicked hard to say" counts and a large margin between "yes" and "no" would be high confidence. @exemplarybehaviour had a couple of suggestions for this (thank you!!):
Tumblr media
i ended up going with the first suggestion BUT i think the uneven sample sizes don't matter -- you can imagine normalizing everything so it's abs((yes / total) - (no / total)) / (idk / total), but then the vote totals all cancel out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
ANYWAY, now that i had a confidence metric i sorted all the dict keys by (yes - no) / idk (removing the absolute value, so positive numbers mean "yes girl dinner" and negative numbers mean "not girl dinner"):

glad you asked!

thanks to everyone who participated in girl dinner studies <3
