That viral post that's going around about how people who write "book quality" mlm fic are too "normal" to publish and have real jobs so only "weird" people publish their "shitty" fanfic is so completely out of touch with reality and I am giving a massive side eye to everyone reblogging it.

Not only is it completely, easily verifiably untrue (you cannot enter any professional writing space without tripping over a dozen grizzled scifi writers who got their start by filing off the serial numbers and publishing their Star Trek fanfic even going back decades ago??? it's a whole thing?? plus how can you look at the mlm category on Amazon right now and say with a straight face that people aren't publishing shitty Spirk and Stucky fanfic??? Oh, honey...) it's also the perfect example of this kind of sneering elitism that true artists would never sully themselves by seeking profit, they do it only for the purity of the thing that always somehow leads back to, "no one should be paid to make art, actually."

The only reason you're seeing more published fanfic right now has nothing to do with the idealistic purity of your hypothetical government employee written smut of the past vs the debased scribbles of those awful straights of today and everything to do with the fact that a) self-publishing has created a voracious readership that wants a ton of content so it's become a viable, flexible income stream for many, especially disabled people b) anyone can publish now with self-publishing tools so there are less gatekeepers and c) lockdown got a lot of people into fandom and therefore writing who never tried it before.

And if you really think there's no "shitty" published mlm and no "book-quality" m/f writing out there that started as fanfic, then you are clearly not a reader so why are you even talking about this?

sorry if you’ve read this before and i just haven’t seen you post about it, but the book “hell followed with us” by andrew joseph white seems right up your alley

i need some kind of faq with a section where i explain that i consider andrew joseph white to be a poor writer except when it comes to describing excesses of body horror and gore because people keep suggesting hell followed with us to me and i'm sorry but his books are not good. aside from the vivid descriptions mentioned above they're incredibly devoid of compelling narratives, fleshed out characters or immersive worldbuilding. the guy can come up with some amazing concepts for a story, but his ability to execute them is consistently disappointing. i'm glad he's making money and having fun pursuing his creative passions but his stuff just does not appeal to me at all and frankly makes a hater out of me.

#i would be more forgiving if it werent for the fact that he markets his books as containing diverse representation #but nearly all his character tend to read like they were created using a checklist of things you need to include #in your story to advertise it as such #anyway none of this is to say i want him cancelled or to never make another buck off writing or whatever #but i cannot recommend his existing published works

Tirade: scary games, responds to comments, always super nice. Check out his videos, or just leave an encouraging comment.

hodge podge: cosy games, very chill and relaxing voice, uploads a lot of farming games and has lots of completed series organised into playlists

reubengv: video essay type videos about British TV, not as underrated as the others but his videos are really interesting, especially the one about Jam.

BAHAHA (takes the L) thank you............................... to be honest ive always liked jean and i never really cared for jeremy beyond his friendship with kevin and those opinions haven't changed so much as they have evolved. i still don't think much of jeremy beyond that he's funny and a good man, and i'm glad he's a good captain for jean, but there's not much investment here. perhaps the new book might make him more worthwhile to think upon, but truly there's very little about jeremy that makes him interesting or engaging to me beyond the amusement of his dynamics with jean and kevin. i daresay that as a protagonist for tsc he'll be the weaker end

BUT YEAH IT'S TRAGIC. it's all very tragic. i'm not looking forward to ten years of fanwork getting disproved or rendered useless, and to me, that's the most awkward part about the timing of tsc's release. i don't think there's anything anyone could do about this, or if there was any way nora sakavic could've timed it better, but i guess it's just still a little sad to think about. personally i'm not excited for the influx of post-tsc release content that suffocates the fan content made in the past ten years

#everyone can do whatever they want forever of course but you know what i mean? its a little sad #i feel like if we got tsc in 2018 or 2019 it wouldve been. not ideal but not as awkward #i dont know really fandom is not a recent phenomenum but it's still new enough that we've never dealt with things like this #in the publishing industry #if tsc is perfectly in line with all of the fandom's hcs it will feel pointless #if it isn't it'll feel like a study case in disproving the general consensus #i guess my point is just that it's delicate. it's all very delicate when it comes to stories like aftg #and i'm sure nora sakavic is more than aware of this #which again brings me to the point that if the writer has to conform the fandoms hcs to avoid harrassment or mass rejection #and it is in her best interest to do this because writing is after all her breadwinner #then what is the point of the book? and how can it be respected as an original piece of work?#anyway i dont know really. i dont know. hopefully my concerns are unfounded #lost my train of thought theres a cute fuzzy little bee buzzing around me #asks #jeremy #jean #tsc

I'm in the process of writing TMDG. I've had several people ask me if they can use my SK! Sans in fanfic or what have you... Or expand on the very limited lore I've provided:

Please... Do not.

I have all the pieces in place for SK! Sans's backstory/motivations/characterization. There's a whole background for Frisk I have yet to reveal, etc etc — Everything is plotted out.

I just haven't put it out there because it's *spoilers* for the fic that I'll be releasing in the future.

So anything TMDG / SK! Sans / Final! Frisk related will kind of have to remain closed for now.

I'm not saying that the whole of the True Crime genre is off limits, that's ridiculous, but the story of TMDG itself is under lock and key at the moment.

NOW, that being said: You're free to make all the theories you want, you're free to draw Fanart, etc buuuut I do ask to refrain from expanding on my ideas which are... airtight and secret.

Trust me. They're all there. They're just behind a padlock rn.

I’ve picked up again a batfam angst fic I predict I’m about oh halfway done with. I’m usually very insistent on getting longer fics finished and beta’d before publishing but I’m feeling less fastidious about this one since it’s broken up into many small chapters. Plus I’m hopping the hanging dread of showing it to the world will encourage me to finish it.

So here I ask:
