I keep thinking about how well grantaire and anna would get along (before she gets re-brainwashed)... i know you've moved away from spn canon with UMW but do you have thoughts on how your characters would theoretically interact with spn characters?
ah yes, the re-brainwashing was very unfortunate 😔
my main headcanon re. UMW characters meeting SPN characters is that if Enjolras and Grantaire met Sam and Dean, based on Enjolras's personality and him having the sword, they would absolutely assume he was the angel of the pair 😂 Dean would probably commiserate with Grantaire about the challenges of hanging out with a socially challenged angel, and Grantaire would absolutely go along with it. Then Cas would show up and be like 'hello brother 😐' and spoil his fun.
I think Enjolras and Dean would butt heads, but Sam and Combeferre would probably get along quite well. I hope the spirit of Victor Hugo can't see me typing this.
Ages ago I actually started writing a little crossover story just for fun but I found it really weird 😂 I don't know if I'll ever write any more of it so I'll put what I have under a cut here if anyone wants to read it lol
(it is definitely not UMW canon 😂)
Grantaire is in a long-abandoned barn in rural Belgium, idly sweeping up the ashy remains of the shapeshifter that had been terrorising the nearby village in the guise of a local cryptid legend, when Combeferre pops into his mind with a bemusing prayer:
Don't come back to my apartment right now.
Grantaire pauses, awaiting further details. If Combeferre were in danger, he's sure he wouldn't bother beating around the bush, so Grantaire isn't overly worried, but Combeferre has never told him to stay away before and so he waits, curious. A minute or so later, an even more bemusing continuation:
Or if you do, make sure you come in through the front door like a human would.
Sometimes Grantaire desperately wishes that the prayer communication line went both ways. Combeferre feels distracted, like there are many other things demanding his attention and he is snatching at quiet moments to send Grantaire fragmented intel. Finally:
Other hunters here.
With that, the pieces slot together. Grantaire personally thinks it would be kind of funny for him to drop in on a room full of Musain hunters, especially the ones who'd written him off as a drunken waste of space years ago, and he could always erase their memories after if it was going to cause problems, but he supposes that Combeferre's solution of just keeping him away for a while is simpler. He finishes his clean up and is just about to return to Jehan's house when Combeferre reaches out again.
Could use your expertise for this. Come back if you're able? But please be discreet.
Grantaire snorts. He thinks he'll enjoy having a conversation with Combeferre later about why it's okay to pretend that he's human to other hunters, but not to Enjolras or Combeferre himself. He's well aware of the difference and the reasoning, of course, but he does like watching Combeferre wrestle with a moral quandary.
Enjolras is here, too.
This last part sounds like a warning, and Grantaire supposes it is, and one he should be thankful for. He braces himself before flying back to Combeferre's building, going up the stairs with pointed emphasis and hoping everyone in the apartment can hear his very normal, very human footsteps approaching. He opens the apartment door, calling out a greeting, and he steps inside and the world stops.
The other angel in Combeferre's living room stares at him, his human face registering only mild surprise even as his luminous true form roils and sparks in shock and alarm and, of course, horrifyingly, recognition. Grantaire stares back for a wild, world-tilting moment, and then he flies in a mad flurry, grabbing Enjolras and Combeferre and taking them to the furthest side of the room, pushing them behind him. Combeferre, who had just expressly told Grantaire to be on his best and most human behaviour, calls his name in confused dismay, and Enjolras is saying something too, demanding to know what he's doing, and there are two other humans here too, making their own noise, but then—
"Hello, brother," Castiel says, and all the humans in the room fall deathly silent.
Grantaire doesn't answer. His hand instinctively twitches to curl around the handle of a blade not currently in his possession. He can feel the presence of his sword burning in Enjolras's coat pocket and he wonders if the split second it would take for him to get to it will mean fiery death for all of them.
Three thousand years, he thinks. Three thousand years he successfully kept his head down, and then Combeferre goes and invites another angel into his living room—!
"Aw no, brother?" one of the new humans repeats. Grantaire doesn't dare take his eyes off Castiel, but the human sounds exasperated. He also sounds American, which raises many questions but also answers the one of why they are all here and not at the Musain. Grantaire can only imagine the Musain hunters' reaction to Americans descending upon their home base. "Cas, are you serious?"
"He's pretty clearly serious." The other human puts himself in Grantaire's line of vision, stepping between him and Castiel with one hand raised placatingly. He's uncommonly tall and more than broad enough in the shoulders to be considered physically imposing by human standards, but his posture and expression are currently extremely non-confrontational—he looks nervous, and sort of concerned. He looks at Grantaire first but then, clearly finding no invitation in his stony face, tilts his head to look past him at Enjolras and Combeferre instead. "So, uh. Got yourselves an angel."
"As do you, it would seem," Combeferre says with measured calm. It's strange to hear him speak English. Out of the corner of his eye, Grantaire sees him take half a step forward and hisses back at him, "Don't."
"Hey, who are you? Do we know you?" the first human says suddenly. "Are you an old douchebag in a new meat-suit?"
"Dean," Castiel says in quiet admonishment.
"What? It's not like we can tell."
"You don't know him," Castiel tells him before turning back to Grantaire. "This isn't necessary. I'm not going to harm you or these humans. You should calm yourself."
"And if you want to harm Cas then we're going to have a problem," the tall human says.
Grantaire makes no attempt to calm himself. "Are you alone?" he demands of Castiel, whose vessel affects a faintly puzzled expression.
"I'm here with Sam and Dean," he says slowly, and Grantaire scowls.
"I mean," he says, "where is your garrison?"
"I no longer serve Heaven, Rachmiel," Castiel says in oddly gentle tones, as if he's just realised why Grantaire would be so horrified to see him.
"Do not call me that," Grantaire snaps with a sharp shake of his head. "You—what do you mean?"
"I am...fallen." There's a strange mixture of pride and shame in Castiel's voice as he says it. "My loyalties were tested and I found them to lie more with humanity than with our brothers and sisters."
"You…" Grantaire's mind, emerging from the initial shock, starts to piece things together, starts to remember. "I saw you. Last year. You were killing angels and humans. Hundreds of them."
"Hey, that wasn't Cas," one of the humans, Dean, starts to protest, while Grantaire hears twin sharp intakes of breath from Combeferre and Enjolras as they apparently make the connection between the God-Monster they'd seen on screen all those months ago and the mild-mannered man standing before them now.
"Look, okay, let's...We didn't come here to fight," says the other human, whom Grantaire assumes, through elimination, to be Sam. "It's complicated, okay? But Castiel is with us. He's not the bad guy. He's saved our lives more times than I can count and—hell, he helped us stop the apocalypse."
"Did he say the apocalypse?" Grantaire hears Enjolras mutter behind him.
"What did you two have to do with the…?" Grantaire looks at the two strangers properly for the first time and feels a fresh wave of hysteria. There is a lot to be read from their souls that he will unpack later, but most pressingly, he can see who they are—what they are. "You're the vessels." His undoubtedly wild-eyed gaze swings back to Castiel. "You're walking around with Michael and Lucifer's vessels? You brought them here?"
"Michael and Lucifer are both in the cage," Castiel says. "I do not expect they will be coming looking for their vessels."
"And they already know that they do not have consent to take either of us for a ride," Dean says with a grimly sardonic smile.
Grantaire's head feels like it's going to explode, which wouldn't kill him but would undoubtedly be very distressing for Enjolras and Combeferre to witness. He wills his vessel to hold it together.
"Grantaire," Combeferre says quietly—even that makes him jump. Combeferre speaks to him in soft, rapid-fire French that the Americans clearly do not understand and that Castiel politely pretends not to hear. "If he's really broken with Heaven, isn't that a good thing? For you to not be the only one?"
Grantaire casts a somewhat tortured glance back at him, not anywhere near ready to accept the idea that running into anyone from his family could ever be good, before looking inevitably back to Castiel, unable to keep his eyes from returning to the perceived threat in the room.
"It is good to see you," Castiel says, horribly earnest. "I believed you dead."
"Yeah, that was the idea," Grantaire snaps. Castiel tilts his head to one side like a confused puppy, a crease appearing between his eyebrows.
"You've been in hiding," he hazards finally.
"Pretty successfully, up until now," Grantaire says.
"Hey, just like Gabriel," Dean remarks. "You gotta wonder how many other angels flew the coop."
"Gabriel," Combeferre repeats in tones of disbelief that match Grantaire's own feelings. "The archangel? He also…?"
"Gabriel is dead," Grantaire says bluntly.
"Yeah, but he had a good run hanging out down here pretending to be a trickster god," Dean says with a smile that suggests not-so-fond remembrance. "What've you been hiding out as? Some other deity?"
There's an agonising sort of pause, and then it's Enjolras who says, not without bitterness, "A human."
Dean whistles. "That's a bold choice."
"Rachmiel," Castiel says, and Grantaire wants to scream. "Heaven will not hear of any of this from me. You and your humans are safe. Please. I—Here."
He puts one hand up as if in surrender while his blade falls from the sleeve of his coat into his other hand. He holds it up, slowly and demonstratively, before setting it down on Combeferre's coffee table and stepping back.
There is a very strange, very awkward moment where Castiel and his two humans look at Grantaire expectantly, waiting for him to return the gesture and disarm. Finally, Enjolras steps forward. He catches Grantaire's eye questioningly and, at his nod, takes Grantaire's blade out of his own coat and lays it next to Castiel's. Dean and Sam's eyebrows shoot up and Castiel gives a slow, considered blink, but mercifully all three of them refrain from saying anything about the matter.

20 questions for fic writers
tagged by the fabulous @cfr749. Please go read her fics and join me in screeching over them!!
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 28
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 103,520
3. What fandoms do you write for? The Rookie (Chenford), and previously for Chicago PD (Linstead)
4. What are your top five fics by kudos? - stay - i want you to be happier - i don't wanna think of anything else (now that i thought of you) - all at once this is enough - now everything is easy (cause of you)
5. Do you respond to comments? I didn't when I first started posting fics (though I often think about going back and replying to them now, but that would probably be weird lol). But yes, now I definitely respond to comments. I am absolutely giddy over every single one I receive, and so I love to express that appreciation!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Hmmmm I don't think any of them? I tend to leave even the angstiest fics on a hopeful note. But I suppose either just close your eyes (you'll be alright) or you know the greatest films of all time were never made just because of where they land in relation to the events of the show?
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Probably in paper rings, in picture frames, and all my dreams, because, hello, 💍
8. Do you get hate on fics? Thankfully I have only seen positive feedback, which is so so lovely. This fandom is wonderful 💖
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I do not, because I'm too chicken. Maybe one day? (iykyk)
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? No. I can't stand crossover fics. 😬
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I'm aware of!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?  Not by me!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes! My babe @timandlucy and I have a collab that we started a while ago and have recently talked about picking up again! And we have an idea for another one brewing too! And @makeitastrength and I have on that's sitting on the backburner, but hopefully we will make happen!
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? Chenford!
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I want to say none because I'm way too fucking stubborn to give up on anything. But *sigh* Home... 😬😬😬😬😬 (it's been 5½ years, so it's not looking particularly hopeful)
16. What are your writing strengths? Oh man, I don't know? I hope I do a decent enough job of getting their voices right? Dialogue is often a battle, but that's probably because of how insane particular I am. I will say things out loud, play around with words, etc. to make sure it really feels like something they would say.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Being too indecisive and my lack of confidence (which, frankly, go hand in hand).
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I haven't done it, but I would definitely be looking to lean on a native speaker to ensure I do it correctly!
19. First fandom you wrote for? Chicago PD (Linstead)
20. Favorite fic you’ve written? So hard, but i want you to be happier has a special place in my heart. It was a challenge to write, but the words still came so easily. And when I go back and re-read it, I don't cringe, so that's a win right there!
Thanks Lana! 🥰

What dd run do you recommend for someone who wants to get to know Matt as a character?
Or better question; what issues?
"get to know Matt as a character" hm. fantastic question. I personally read volumes 3, 4, and 5 first before going back and reading some of the older stuff in volume 1. and it's really only been recently that I'd say I have a good grip on Matt's character.
Important parts of Matt's character are his resilience and integrity, his insistence on fighting for others' fair treatment, his admiration for the value of all life, his compassion for others no matter their situation, and his dedication to those he considers family.
Other important parts of Matt's character are his pride, his impulsivity, his lack of regard for his own safety/well-being, his destructive tendencies, and his poor coping mechanisms (which are plentiful in number; most notably perhaps being how he isolates himself from others).
These all tend to feed into one another. I'm going to try and suggest what I think showcases these parts of him.
fair warning: I definitely haven't read everything, namely volume 2 and a large bit of Miller's run, which most people consider very important.
if you're looking for a specific volume that's beginner-friendly, I'd say volume 3 is a good place to start, but if you want (in no particular order) a list of specific issues--
Daredevil Volume 1 issue 1 (Lee) - this one I have to rec out of pure respect. it gives you Matt's origin story and shows you a lot of his values that are still present in the modern-day character. though, if you're really not into older comics, I could say it's probably safe to skip until you feel more comfortable with the character
Daredevil: The Man Without Fear #1-5 (Miller) - this is probably considered the most iconic daredevil arc ever written, and for good reason. as many issues as I have with miller, he's a fantastic writer, and this retelling of matt's origin is gold.
Daredevil Volume 3, issues 28-36 (Waid) - waid just really Gets matts character, we get to see matt beat up bigots and really show off his positive traits while combating the more negative ones
Daredevil Volume 1, issues 301-306 (Chichester) - Re-introduction of the owl in a compelling way, slice of life interactions, spider-man crossover. what's not to like. chichester is excellent at highlighting matt's endless compassion and value for life while also remembering matt's destructive tendencies
Daredevil Volume 4 issue 000.1 (Waid) - showcase of matt's compassion and impulsivity; probably one of the best attempts by ANY writer to capture what matt's radar sense is like
Spider-Man: Daredevil (Matthews) - kinda shows off the inherent Weirdness that comes with matts abilities, I love how this issue gives you a good glimpse at Matt and Ben Urich's relationship, and it really just hits the nail on the head for matts characterization while giving you enjoyable slice of life moments
Daredevil Volume 4 issues 11-12 (Waid) - again, shows off matt's compassion (that's his most admirable quality imo), shows him combating his pride so he can help others, and displays how his willingness to see the good in people can be used against him
Daredevil Volume 1 issues 609-612 (Soule) - imo the best dd arc ever written, right next to miller's tmwf. just. perfect, no notes. i tear up and get chills every time I read it. Ill cry thinking about it right now. it sums up everything matt is and represents as a character, the good and the bad, and i could gush about it all day
If I had to suggest any kind of reading order, save v1 #609-612 for last. it's called "the death of daredevil" for a reason. it's not gonna have nearly as much impact if you don't already know something about the character.
thank you so much for the ask!! I really enjoyed replying to it and I hope this was helpful :)

Okay before I go to bed, my reactions to Void Rivals #1.
I don't want to approach this as A Transformers Comic, really, because that seems unfair. Kirkman is writing a new property that works WITH Transformers, is my read on this, and I want to try and approach this on its own terms. So with that in mind...
...this issue is paced in such a way it is staggeringly obvious it exists as a vehicle for the twist that Transformers is happening. I am not familiar with Kirkman's comics, so can't speak to if this pacing is common for him. But it's a slow start, if an occasionally atmospheric one. (Art's great. That title splash? Gorgeous.) The in media res approach is a solid choice, but it quickly becomes a matter of narrative redundancy; we re-establish that our two new leads are mistrustful due to their longstanding war and cultural norms surrounding it but have to cooperate and know it it a good, oooh, three or so times, which feels very odd on first read. Rather than simply slow the pace down so it only happens once toward the climax of the issue, going for more of a decompressed pacing, we spin our wheels stretching out the beat in a way that feels kind of weird, seemingly to fill the pages.
For a comic with only two people in a dead wasteland setting, it lacks both narrative efficiency (you could fit twice the amount of building-a-dynamic work in here) and a sense of sparse, lingering atmosphere build up (a slower pace with less talking could sell more isolation, paranoia and tension).
Why? Because the climax doesn't have space for the culmination to be 'and now they realise they have to work together', so it has to be sorted towards the start. But then there's nothing much to do in the middle, so it all gets stretched.
And the reason that can't be the climax is of course that the discovery of Jetfire is that. It's a great setup for this kind of twist conceptually- so obvious I predicted it without needing more than a solicit and his promo art. That's because it fits! But then he unexpectedly leaves, and I realised the setup probably wasn't to integrate him into this comic as an entrance into what role the crossover has here. It's to set up his story, I think, in the Transformers ongoing in October. That he's missed the war while out cold on this planet. (It is a fun use of the G1 cartoon story in a new context.) Which makes the end of this comic feel less... anything? If Jetfire was staying as the surprise third character, a fish out of water they needed to persuade to help them, that would have helped justify the prior meandering, I think. But he leaves, and the sense is that the comic only goes the way it does to set up another comic. Our actual protagonists then continue basically unaffected, so really, what does it matter, and was it worth meandering?
(Sidenote: imagine, a Cybertronian audience surrogate with humanoid alien protagonists! I want it. Maybe one way or another we'll fet it down the line. A nice twist.)
Maybe I'll be wrong and Jetfire will be back next issue- but if so, this comic failed to set up narrative expectations well.
It sounds like I hate it. I don't! It's got some interesting ideas, though exposition is slightly forced and dialogue is a bit clunky IMO. I like the basic concept. The ending where they take off their helmets is... we'll see where he's going with this I guess. But it feels like an 'issue zero', a possible prequel to two comics in one? Frankly, doing this AS a one-off prequel might have been wise, idk. A before-the-launch thirty page special or something. As the first issue of Void Rivals, it feels hijacked and unfocused; as the set up for Transformers, it feels a bit tortured, as much as I do still like the whole idea of starting it off in a non-TF book if you are going to do a crossover universe. (Really dig into the idea the universe continues around their war!)
Also, it truly just expects you to know who Jetfire is. Like, not just what Transformers is. Who he is. I'm surprised by that. As a way to hook non-TF readers, an overt reference to a single episode of the G1 cartoon most non-fans likely don't remember even if they saw it? Seems kinda deep cut. The whole thing revolves around knowing that this is him being someone who has missed the war. Hmmm.
Anyway. I'm interested to see how this pans out. Especially since the announced writer for the TF ongoing suggests this is definitely gonna be a war story.

2023 year in review roundup
wow!! what a fucking year!!! goodbye and good riddance! happy first day of 2024!
this year i did 37 tuesdayposts! there were 53 tuesdays so that's about 70%! some of them were on fri/sat instead as shabbosposts but i think posting on tuesday or even monday does just work better for some fucking reason. maybe because friday and saturday are days that i am most likely to do New Activities for making/playing/watching/reading??? and so on monday or tuesday i can recap the just-finished weekend. shrug! we love tuesday so it's fine.
listening listened to all of twilight mirage and a little over half of partizan! shrieking shack podcast, just king things, well there's your problem, miscellaneous music (maneskin probably a notable winner in there)
reading a lot of little articles. a little tgcf. SO much fanfic. 'every heart a doorway' (bad). 'birthday of the world' le guin (good).
playing a little disco elysium. a little minecraft. a little nier automata. a little hadesgame. a LOT of pokemon go. and i got into magic the gathering this year!
watching a lot of youtube videos. so many gd youtube videos. evangelion, history of the world part ii, cunk on earth, vox machina animated series, cowboy bebop, first season of peaky blinders, the new tgcf donghua season!
making i did very little drawing/painting/illustration beyond life drawing a few times...however i was very prolific in crafting! i also theoretically made valentines gifts. i do not remember what they were tho lol.
fiber arts: i completed a big embroidery project (fermenting dregs album art hoodie), quantum shawl, mesh market bag, case for my knew laptop, finished that blue tank top even though i hate it, fixed the lining on my yellow knitted cowl, made a little knitted headphone top cover that i will probably redo differently, headband ear warmer for my roommate's mom, and FINALLY i just barely finished the scarf for my SO before the end of 2023!
print block carving: wristwatch print, gavelbocken holiday card print
misc/writing: some songxuexiao fencing au. some harrowhark abhorsen au. neocities website!
and so much pottery! this is all of it, barring the things i already gave away as presents before this photo (two pots and a little box and the little raven guy), but wow! that's so many fuckin object!
Tumblr media
misc what a fucking year. some bad! had to file a big car insurance claim! got really sick while abroad and that persisted for a long fucking time! mini summer breakdown! some good stuff too - passed quantum mechanics FOREVER good fucking bye, did my first successful academic conference, finally started feeling better around the end of the year! learned my lesson: it's not fuckin worth stressing yourself to death over, and also i can't just Be At Home Aimlessly for months any more. it's bad for my mental health.
reviewing 2023 resolutions and goals --> I’d love to start writing again and play more horn but we’ll see i basically didn't do any creative writing at all this year barring a few lines of fanfic ideas (the abhorsen/tlt crossover one) HOWEVER i READ a lot of fanfic to marinate in and i played a LOT more french horn!! i joined the little youth orchestra which is like, uber goofy, but it means ive been playing on a regular basis again!
--> I also wanna listen to more weird music, and invest in actually owning some files, especially for some of the lesser-known bands and through bandcamp and stuff i spent all year meaning to do this and kept pushing it off so it rolls over into next year.
--> I really want to kind of dial those [unhealthy coping mechanisms] back again, focus more on existing in Reality and more in each moment, which hopefully will also help with some of the skin picking and other anxious habits that resurfaced. maybe more yoga, maybe re-establishing a meditation process lol lmao. nah. but definitely rolling it over into 2024.
--> I would love to think more about my fashion and how I present myself too, and work on making and tailoring more of my clothing in general actually not bad! basically zero tailoring but i did a pretty good job wearing some cute outfits.
--> I’ve been pretty good about being active so I’d like to keep that up, I still can’t do a pull-up but maybe this is the year! (lol) I should also start doing some minor exercises for my shitty arthritis toes to keep those okay once again: lol lmao. health issues had me really regress in some of my gains goals. plus side is toes are doin pretty normal.
--> a lot of last year was kind of a wash regarding research so I’m really looking forward to refocusing on that and really getting things moving. oh it moved! in a good way! i'm making good progress and hopefully i will keep that momentum going!
--> finally! I want to get back to tabletop! I miss doing it so much! it fell by the wayside for me because of how busy and overwhelmed I was, especially this past fall semester, but I want to start running and playing games with my pals again a little! i should have been putting these in playing as i went oops. the tabletop group i've run was a little fallow this year due to at least half of our group, including myself, not being in Tabletop Mood but we've played a lot of res arcana and other such games instead.
i had a few other resolutions in my digital planner on my ipad that didn't go in the writeup last year: namely, practice languages more (i did practice my mandarin a little but did not really learn any hebrew or korean unfortunately) and establish a non-software component of my research (nope, not in the cards, but i'm hoping to do something else this summer to let me get better with physical data/setups), and finishing the masters degree requirements (that will be the end of this upcoming spring semester), but overall i really did hit most of my resolutions and goals! even with being ill for a while! (except the finances. i am simply not looking at them <3)
2024 resolutions and goals
definitely some rollover! i will format this to hopefully be a little easier to respond to next year:
- get back on a regular workout schedule: swimming 1x a week, weights once or twice a week. would like to try and work towards my One Pullup goal again. would also be cool to try and work towards a hand/headstand. - try and be more mindful. i'm going to continue the grief therapy but also think about meditating more, doing more yoga, and so on. - there's a gallery on main street that solicits work from local artists for bimonthy themed exhibitions and i really want to submit at least one thing to it this year! the one due by end of january is themed 'florals', and the one two months after that is 'layers', so i'd really like to submit something to one of those. - more weird art! use that big canvas i bought in literally 2022! paint!!! - finally put together that travel journal from korea & japan (and also scrapbook-ify the papers i have leftover in a pile from that) - also, maybe do current scrapbook a little different? might need a new binder at the very least. - hang up that expensive quilt i bought in august - speaking of quilt: do some hand quilting, english paper piercing! i have so much fucking fabric! - find a new apartment to move into that hopefully won't suck! - try to secure some sort of summer internship or project that will let me develop some new skillsets that i might not be getting with my current research - finish the masters degree - write...a paper? for the work i just presented??? - keep tweaking neocities and make some more pages - keep track of recipes this year as well in my making section
i might start a little spreadsheet this year to keep better track of all my stuff because i really did Not want to go through all my separate listening and reading sections and extract what i liked the most, etc. this post required me to first back up a few extra early tuesdayposts from this year to dreamwidth, and then skim all of them to accumulate the above, and that was kinda a pain. and i love an excuse to start a new spreadsheet.
we did it! happy 2024! i don't think i have anything else to add to this wrapup but if i think of something i'll tack it into the upcoming Normal Tuesdaypost tomorrow! good job good night and good luck everyone!

20 Questions for Fanfiction Writers
tagged by: @andtherewerefireworks. THANK YOU. <3 <3 <3
1) How many works do you have on AO3?
206, apparently. O.o I didn't realize it was that much. Whoops. >.>;;;;;; ...when did I end up with 55 fics in the MCU. I knew I had a lot in JTV, but when did I end up with that many in the MCU
2) What's your total AO3 word count?
2,039,621.
3) What fandoms do you write for?
Uh...currently? ...uh...let me check my pinned post. Uh. Danganronpa (not DRV3 because I haven't finished it yet; specifically Junko etc. I like rewrites and consequences more than...crossovers...right now. I would rather play with canon...ish). MCU (specifically Wanda-related etc. re: Wandavision and DSMOM, but also add the Ancient One and also add Viv Vision because I love her). JTV (because yes, I can be persuaded to write more Roisa stuff). Miscellaneous Kathryn Hahn etc. (frequently referred to as Hahnverse, specifically beyond Agatha I will also write Eve Fletcher and Claire Debella). Who Framed Roger Rabbit (because yes, I can also be persuaded to occasionally write more Jessica Rabbit stuff, although it is often highly specific to my Jess). Puella Magi Madoka Magica (just because I haven't in a very long time does not mean I can't). Noir (the 2001 anime; just because I have very little posted doesn't mean I won't write for this). The Haunting of Bly Manor (specifically Dani and Viola and we pretend that most of the last episode didn't happen because I love Viola and I like looking at the complications of that whole situation). ...probably others that I can't think about at the moment, honestly.
4) Top Five Fics by Kudos:
By kudos? 1) What Dreams May Come. 2) Finding Family. 3) Lost Causes. 4) Make Life Worthwhile. 5) Take A Sad Song and Make It Better. Surprised by that last one, honestly, but not by the other four. The top two on my stats are pretty much always Bly Manor Fix-It Fic and FF; they just switch places every now and again.
5) Do you respond to comments?
Sometimes. I respond to comments if I feel I have a response or if I want to continue the dialogue or if I'm asked a question and don't put it off for a while (I'm really bad at this, actually). But I feel like a lot of comments...don't need...a response? And have been running into the weird situation lately where responding to comments...feels like...it keeps people from commenting? Which is? A weird feeling?
6) What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Timeline canon doesn't count (I see you out there reading this) because that's not fic, that's rp. And, I mean, technically that had a happy ending. Technically. the day her line went flat. hands down. i've got some other angsty stuff that comes to mind, but like. nothing like that one, i don't think. ...but if I ever finish it all happens so quick, that may take it.
7) What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
...uh. Hm. I think probably Finding Family, because it was nearly 375k of build up (385k if you include the Holiday Special) and character development and relational development just to get to that ending so that it felt well earned and deserved and still not expected even though set up and just. I knew the ending of that one when I started it, and it was exactly what I wanted it to be, and I think it's the most happy because it's the most right and complete and just.... I don't know how to put words to it, but that one.
8) Do you get hate on fics?
I've gotten bot hate on my MCU fics by bots who want me to switch to a different fic website, which I don't think really counts. I haven't gotten hate as comments on AO3 fic, BUT I DID have a period early last year and some the year before of A LOT of Anon hate, some of which was fic hate. Specifically character interpretation. But that felt more like a campaign of hate against me and that was just the avenue they were deciding to use at that particular time because there was so much other hate they were sending, so like. ...yeah, that was a thing.
9) Do you write smut?
Nope.
10) Craziest crossover?
Heart in Motion aka the JTV/ODAAT crossover that no one asked for and then everyone asked for and then I never went back to. XD
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of!
12) Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! Partly! Someone started translating Finding Family into Russian! With permission! You can find it here!
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes! Room for One I co-wrote with @butimnotasexyrussian! IT WAS GREAT.
14) All time favorite ship?
Honestly, I don't think I have one. I love Jess/Scully and Jess/Regina. I love the Valentines. But my shipping favs are flexible at best.
15) What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
What Dreams May Come. I don't think I left it in a good spot, as opposed to If You Lived Here, You'd Be Home Now, which is unfinished and will probably stay unfinished but at least stops at a good spot.
16) What are your writing strengths?
Consistency. I'm very consistent in terms of world-building and maintaining exact specifics through a fic. I keep my through threads, usually, and if I set something up, it's probably going to pay off later.
17) What are your writing weaknesses?
EVERYTHING IS ALWAYS SO LONG. WHAT IS WRITING SHORT STUFF, I DON'T KNOW HER. But also plot. And description. And setting. I suck at all of these things. Oh, also, having characters have distinct voices. All of my characters sound the same. -shrugs-
18) Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
I don't have a problem with it, but I very rarely do it. I'm worried I'll get something wrong!
19) First fandom you wrote in?
Tales of Symphonia. I was in, like, middle school, and I did not post it. Fortunately. (This does not count RP, which I was doing earlier than that. That's not the same. And to be honest, I'm not sure I would know the answer then. Teen Titans or Inu-Yasha, maybe? I'm not sure.)
20) Favorite fic you've written?
It's a toss up between Luisa and the Fox and Surrogate. Probably there's something else I'm forgetting but will remember after I post this. But honestly? It's probably one of those two.

20 Questions for Fic Writers!
Stealing a neat post from @sweepseven and we'll see how far we get haha. I haven't posted all of my stuff to AO3 so I'll kinda be pulling from a few places
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Only 6! And half of them are from July till now lmao (aka the moment I learned about Steve Burnside)
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
49,691
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Gosh if I kept consistent fandoms it would make my fandom experience so much more easier :') Started out with Gundam, though haven't really kept up post my move away from FFNet (really want to come back at some point tho). Code Geass and TKoE is my long-running baby. Currently swept up in a Resident Evil fever too (see previous question). I've also written some stuff for League of Legends, Persona 2, and Fire Emblem!
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Ravaged Blessings (Fire Emblem: Three Houses, T. Wrote this during the rising peak of FE3H's release. Started out with Blue Lions and whoa nelly I was not prepared for Dimitri's post-timeskip scene.)
Two Kinds of Eternity (Code Geass, M. The behemoth. I had this idea in my head for ages and once I joined AO3 in 2018, decided to finally give it a shot. It's been five years and we're only halfway there, but I'm glad folks have hopped on and off for the ride)
An Eternal Warpath For You And Me (Resident Evil, M. Most recent fic of mine that I'm thankful has gotten a lot of kind reception! Aka Chreon + me fitting Steve into the Resident Evil-verse as best I can haha)
Shuriman Nights (League of Legends, T. Bit of a kudos drop from this point forward, but I love all my works the same, so :) I will never be over Nasus and Renekton's lore.)
Once (That Was Enough) (Resident Evil, M. EVERYTIME I WATCH THE DARKSIDE CHRONICLES CUTSCENES I HAVE TO COME BACK AND RE-READ THIS ONE. The genesis of my sprawling RE AU)
With 6 fics, that leaves We'll Always Have Casablanca out of the standings! Turns out that fic was the first anyone used the Leon & Steve tag. Pure self-indulgence so I understand why it's the lowest haha
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to answer all of them! I have moments in life when I feel way too anxious about what to write back (like am I clogging up my own comments section? will they think it's weird if I write more than their initial comment?), but I work really hard to recognize the people who leave nice notes on my fics.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I'm a sucker for happy endings (everything else in the story is fair game tho) so I hardly ever end something too angsty... I guess Shuriman Nights for its implications?
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Once (That Was Enough). Capcom, I reject your reality and substitute my own.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I had a few small cases, but it's not frequent at all. I try to mind my own business and let folks be ^^
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
As someone who's like 90% sure they're ace/sex-repulsed, I don't. It narrows my scope of reading fanfic too unfortunately - some of the best written works I've seen are rated E, but I have to kinda "hold my breath" while reading them :(
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I never posted it anywhere, but I had a sprawling DCMK/Gundam crossover I shared with a close friend of mine. Still re-read parts of it from time to time. (Silver Bullet Shinichi, anyone?)
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge! I write so slowly that they probably wouldn't be able to steal it.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope but it would be a blessing if anyone ever asked!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Again not posted, but I used to do a ton of co-writing with that same close friend mentioned above. Good times.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
Ooh this one's a tough one. If I have to choose, it's Kamille Bidan/Fa Yuiry from Zeta Gundam. It's what really started my fanfic journey, and I'll never forget the pure elation I felt watching their beach ending in Gundam ZZ. Wonder how I'd write something for them in the present? It's been so long...
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
If I thought about my deepest fears it would be TKoE, but I refuse. I will finish that fic. For a more realistic answer, I have a lot of mini-scenes for my Claire/Steve RE AU that I want to string into a full fic at some point, but I already have so many things on my plate.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Hmm. I like to think that in my writing peaks, I have a good sense of capturing character voices and dialogue. I'm also good at coming up with like, "angsty" one-liners, if that makes sense?
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Gosh this one's much easier than the last one. My posting rate is abysmal for starters (sorry to all the TKoE readers). I feel like every other sentence I write is clunky and long. Like on re-reads I can usually shave a few adjectives and words off of every sentence. I get impatient about pacing when I'm actually writing, but my actual writing sessions are few and far between. Tough times man :(
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Different strokes for different folks, but I'm always afraid that a reader will get whiplash if I write in a language that I'm not comfortable with. Like sometimes I'll read fics where they reference Korean and it ruins my focus a bit when I read something that's not grammatically correct/realistic. Nothing to drop a fic over, but I'm not confident enough to write in another language myself.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
I don't remember off the top of my head. The first one I posted online was for Zeta Gundam, but also I think I have a small A Separate Peace story from around that time? Lol if I go back to my childhood original works, those stories were essentially Guardians of Ga'Hoole and Bionicle fanfics too.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Once (That Was Enough) takes the cake right now. I remember looking on TVTropes for... Tragic Monster examples I believe?... and found a quick summary of Steve Burnside. Oh dear, that lad has me in his clutches and won't let me go. I had to write a story where he survives, and well... the rest is history. I even have a tag dedicated to the AU the fic spawned! Well, that was a ton of fun! If anyone reads this and wants to do it themselves, feel free to! Hoping to get more stuff out soon :)

20 Questions for Fic Writers!
Tagged by @valeriianz and @sleepsonfutons, so LET'S DO THIS. Because I want to procrastinate from working.
Under the cut because I don't wanna clog up your feeds with random bullshit about me as a fic author. LOL.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
*checks AO3* SIXTY ONE?!? WHEN THE FUCK DID THAT HAPPEN.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
325,828 total. 216,568 of that is Sandman that has been written since September 5 2022.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Fandoms I have posted fic for: The Sandman, Star Trek, Men's Tennis RPF Fandoms I have written fic for that will only ever live in the secret rooms of my mind palace hard drive: X-Men, The Vampire Chronicles, Harry Potter, Vampire Hunter D, Hellsing (the anime & manga) Fandoms I have written fic for that I might post someday: The Dresden Files
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
1. New Moon 2. high enough (you got me good) 3. Whispers to the Night <- the one that started me on this wild Dreamling ride 4. To Worship on a Marble Altar 5. Eros in Pragma Interesting note is that almost all of those are early in the Sandman/Dreamling fandom where there was more activity and less fics in existence.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I would LOVE to respond more to comments. I read all of them and treasure each one. However, spoons are limited and most of the time recently my brain is just not cooperating. I used to respond to every one and exhaust myself. Now I'd rather spend that energy reading and writing more. But when I am feeling like I am a shite writer and others do it better and why am I even continuing to do this I go back and re-read comments and it really does help.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I don't think I write angsty endings, tbh. The angstiest of those that are finished would probably be i will take me away. There is, however, one that will definitely be the angstiest once it is done. 😉
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I chronically write happy endings. I think my happiEST ending is Hypnopompia turtur, followed closely by high enough (you got me good)'s Chapter 4
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Nope! At least not yet... <.< >.> <.<
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
*CACKLES* Do I write smut? Do I write smut? Do I write smut? You would have an easier time counting the fics that do NOT contain any smut. You could count them on one hand. I mostly write BDSM and/or graphic smut. Lots of porn, sometimes plot.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Yes, rarely. I think my recent delve into Sandman+Ted Lasso with Keeper is pretty fucking weird (as much as I adore it).
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Nope.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Also nope.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not that is published. I am currently collaborating with someone on future White Horse Mafia fics.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
Oh Christ, that is like asking what is my favorite bird. *pulls out laptop and projector and slides* In this TEDTalk, I will... Dreamling is definitely the one that has had the strongest grip on me in a very long time. Lestat/Louis is a classic I will never be completely over. Harry Dresden/John Marcone just thrills me for reasons I cannot fully pinpoint. Chris Pike/Ash Tyler from Star Trek also is very dear to me, as is Clint Barton/Loki from back at the start of the MCU.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
My Chris Pike/Ash Tyler/OC triad from Star Trek. I want to finish it in my heart, but I have lost the thread of it.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Apparently porn. At least that is what I gather from feedback from others.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Does comparing myself too much to other authors count? Like, too often looking at another person's fic and being like I want to BE THAT instead of embracing who I am and how I write. Does that make sense? It is one thing to be inspired by someone's work and try to learn from them, but sometimes I find myself wanting to try to change my WHOLE STYLE to try and be "more successful" or "more liked", whatever the fuck that means.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I avoid it unless I feel I really need it for Plot Reasons™. I will use Google Translate if the language is common, but also other websites for common slang phrases or dialects that Google Translate doesn't have. I am more than happy to have people correct me, though!
19. First fandom you wrote for?
The Vampire Chronicles
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
OK, this is almost as hard as choosing my favorite bird... I really really love what I was able to achieve with the style of i had a dream (i got everything i wanted). I am so proud of Hob's first-person journal and a part of me will always wish it caught more people's attention. I still impress myself with the amount of world building I was able to cram into the less than 10k of find in me your rhythm and the less than 3k of Stay the Knight. What I was able to do with Hob's snarky voice in A Change in Tactics also cracks me up. But I think the one I am most proud of overall is You create me against your lips. It started out with a blurb inspired by an Instagram post and in the end will be the longest fic I have ever written and the longest fic I have ever finished by far. What is interesting is that most of these are decidedly NOT my most popular based on AO3 stats. Fascinating.
If you are a fic author and want a fun reason to waste some time, consider yourself tagged! *

Never have I wanted to puke out an endless stream of rainbow faster than booting up Dream Drop Distance for the first time. What an odd, odd duck of a game.
Even for a Disney crossover, DDD is maddeningly whimsical, a description I would only somewhat attached to KH (dramatic, theatrical, complicated, flashy, etc. would be better words for the franchise), but is in full blast here. I swear I'm still coughing up glitter.
More under the "Keep Reading."
Like it's not just the weird gameplay with its "Parkour-Off-Any-Surface" Flowmotion. but the cutesy Dream Eaters you collect, the incredibly overflowing bright, neon colors that dominate everything from worlds Sora and Riku step in to the in-game menu. Mind you, beautiful colors - these are not obnoxious in anyway - that are just pure eye candy, it's just a lot to take in at first.
I actually own the original 3DS copy of this game (I am playing the Final Mix edition that was packaged with the PS4 Compilation release) and I need to check out something in my free time, because this game absolutely feels like it was made with a stylus in mind. I can't help but wonder if you're suppose to tap the walls or floors for Sora/Riku to perform Flowmotion. I can definitely tell that one balloon mini-game that you play with the Dream Eaters requires a stylus - the PS Touch Pad is not optimal in any way, shape, or form to handle that.
Oh my God, like the Dream Eaters. I was aware of these creatures, but I didn't know this was Kingdom Hearts: The Mon Game. I'm going to lose it trying to collect them all.
In any case, DDD is almost sickeningly cute tonally. Like when THIS music started playing while I was bonding with my Dream Eaters, I felt like all my teeth would fall out from the sugary nonsense they were shoving down my throat. Even the music has this sort of soft, dreamy quality that wants to drift you off into a peaceful sleep (the peppier music on the other hand feels like a kid going on a magical adventure.) It's not like Birth By Sleep's softness which is more elegant and ethereal, this one feels like a series of lullabies.
And I'm not saying this is a bad thing. I actually do not think this is so twee that it turns me off, probably because I'm still thrown off by the sheer whiplash between this and Birth By Sleep (or any previous KH games, really.) I wonder if its background setting - dreams - meant the developers wanted to create a tone that felt imaginative and childlike. Sora in Slumberland, so to speak.
It's so abrupt about it, too. The game opens up in media res with Sora and Riku battling Ursula, before a flashback informs the viewer that these two kids need to wake seven "sleeping worlds" in order to pass their Mark of Mastery, before suddenly cutting to a minigame where you "drop" into a new world (taking place in lieu of the Gummi Ship), and it's just so damn weird.
Cutscenes are also presented in fragments that are either mandatory or optional viewing for more context in your Mementos menu. Maybe the extra cutscenes had to be side choices because of the nature of its chef gameplay mechanic, where you only have a certain amount of time between Sora and Riku before the two of you switch once the other "drops." Like yeah, I could logically just go back to the other characters, but I guess for people who want to just stick with the "drop" mechanic meant a simpler-than-usual set of cutscenes so as not to confuse people? Maybe??? Because it's not like the Dream Worlds Joshua explained isn't any less convoluted than the average KH worldbuilding. So who the heck knows?
It's certainly experimental compared to past Kingdom Hearts games, and too early for me to say how I feel about it. I think I'm still trying to adjust.
Traverse Town certainly looks its best here though. Like there's more locations and they're all bursting with colors and aesthetic deco flavor. it looks fantastic.
And oh my GOD, I forgot this is the game where the TWENY gang arrived.
Tumblr media
And it comes to little surprise the only one who seem to understand how the dream worlds function and what to do with it is our resident smug asshole, Joshua.
Their story seem to be ongoing, so I assume I'll be returning to Traverse Town and see how they're doing. I'm excited. I loved TWENY and can't wait to see what they do in the KHverse.
I hate to say this though, but their rendition of "CALLING" is... subpar. Like I don't like the way the vocals have this weird warbled effect and the rhythm doesn't feel as bouncy as the original.
Tumblr media
I'm fascinated with Sora and Riku here. Their contrasting personalities have carried and defined their journeys since Game One, and now we've reached a point where they're both in the same page as equals. How they'll pass this test is going to be a remarkable demonstration of their key traits and capabilities.
Immediately Sora confidently declares he and Riku will pass with flying colors, but the latter is hesitant. Knowing how hard he fought to keep his darkness at bay, Riku doesn't take the test for granted and comes across as exceptionally humble.
I don't blame Sora for having a bit of an ego though; his heart is coming from a good place, and his endless optimistic and determination has worked tremendously for him in the past that, well, of course this whole test thing is going to be a shoe-in for him. Yen Sid warns him that the two are playing by a very different, vast set of rules and restrictions though. Both of them were self-taught and they showed talent from it (way beyond the average Keyblade wielder, I'm sure), but now they have mentors and an expectation that requires specification to meet. They cannot just do it their own way.
There are some weird foibles with Sora's character though. His chief personality - sunny and open to other people - is retained, but he's not as grounded as he was before. Now he just seems peppy 24/7 with an almost childish quality that even Game 1 Sora lacked (Game 1 Sora is a bit more hesitant and willing to question things, though he was just starting out back then.) I don't know if they're purposely pushing to fit the dream theme they got going, but he teeters close to a flanderized version of himself. Sora in the other games would sometimes be one crayon short of a full set, but will have his head in the game; DDD Sora sees a butterfly and chases after it.
Riku though, I noticed, has a slightly more adorable side to him when put in an awkward situation. Noticeably, he is flustered and unsure of what to do when Shiki playfully flirts with him. And I just about lost it, because Riku's entire quest in Game 1 was to save Kairi, the girl he liked. It's just so much of a Riku thing that the best way he can express his affection is to go out of his way to find Kairi's heart and never, ever tell her how he feels because he's suave and cool and has no way to forwardly tell girls he likes them because god he's still sixteen and young and stupid in that way.
Which is hilarious to think about compared to the immature Sora who may not be the brightest kid, but he's much more clear (in that chaste anime way) that he likes Kairi and visibly expresses it. Course, it does help that Kairi likes him, too.
It's just so cute. These kids are adorable. I wanna pinch all your cheeks.
Also I've been told the game will explain why they're in their younger models, because, like yeah, why are they?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm currently in the Hunchback of Notre Dame world and man, like, I have not been religious in nearly fifteen years and I still feel like it's blasphemous for Sora and Riku to Anime Parkour inside the Notre Dame. Like that is a real church. That is an actual goddamn church you can legit visit in real life! This is a lot, man.
Fucking Frollo with his Dream Eater behind him and he calls it his righteous judgment and I'm like, I can't take this. I cannot take someone like Frollo, the man who sang "Hellfire", seriously in the Kingdom Hearts world where he meets up with two anime boys and the sea of colorful animal monsters they drag with 'em.
Like jesus fuck, Quasimodo told Riku when the latter entered the Notre Dame that if he's looking for the archdeacon, he's not available. That's a real religious position. That is real, and he told Riku that, and I don't know what the fuck I'm suppose to do with this information.

Justice League x RW/BY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen (Part One)
gonna be honest i kinda keep forgetting that this movie exists. the animation and music is very... rw/by. for better or for worse. corny quippy one liners. it's very corny. adding a cut bc this'll probably get a bit rambly.
AHHH THE FLASHBACK IS A STILL FRAME. the first thing to make me laugh wasnt even a joke it was the single still frame flashback. well. there was a slight zoom?
it's trying to be funny so bad its trying so hard. the serious dialogue is corny but could be worse. overall its better than the crossover comics? making the DC characters teenagers seems pointless.
oh god the dialogue is so hammy. the fists are hammed. weiss good and weiss dad bad yes i noticed. christ im only 8 minutes in. physically recoiling at some of the jokes. like its nothing jokes its nothinggg.
IS THAT SUPPOSED TO BE BRUCE? he's been on screen for like 10 seconds and he already sounds and acts like "wealthy teenage tiktok star tries to pander to the less ~economically privileged~" and god it keeps going it hasnt even been a minute yet. did they make them teenagers bc otherwise bruce wouldve run off and found some little boy to help him solve everything without the help of anyone else. is that why. bc honestly yeah adult bruce is hard to write into a team setting.
bruce continues to be embarrassing but also. im learning that the still image flashbacks are just a thing thats gonna happen in this movie. style wise its very much a rw/by movie, so its just probably not gonna hit for me. its the kind of show i watched in middle school and grew out of by 8th grade. even then, my interest kind of started and ended with the character design and the basic world building elements. emphasis on basic, trying to understand the more in depth aspects is a bit of a waste of time.
oh and im still at the 10 minute mark. "ive already gone through all the other dc x rw/by content" i thought, "might as well watch the movies" i thought.
i think theyre trying to write bruce doing a smart detective thing? unfortunately rw/by is very bad at writing people doing smart things. 1) cant stand bruces voice in this 2) god hes so annoying and this whole scene is embarrassing to watch.
GAHH. THE SAME FLASHBACK FRAME CLARK HAD BUT ZOOMED OUT THIS TIME. true cinema. and i think theyre alluding to time travel as well as dimension travel, so even the rw/by girls get to have weird "we're not where we should be" flashbacks.
diana manhandles the small boy, fun. it also rife with required reading bc if you arent fully dedicated to keeping track of all rw/by lore then fuck you. these movies dont seem to require much DC knowledge but they cram in a lot of references to rw/by lore that i only know from video essays put out by ex-fans.
hey guys did u remember that yang is lesbian. pretty cool right? right?? this movie is going by so slow.
MARI IS THAT YOU?? and jess... girls u deserve a better movie. oh vic got braids? nice. also that joke was nothing. all the jokes are nothing.
the best jokes so far have been. the ones about how convoluted and hard to get into rw/by is. because of course. sigh. i do think the DC characters are better utilized and integrated than they were in the comics at least. seeing mari and jess get animated is really cool, and overall i like the redesigns. a few of the characters have commented on suddenly being deaged but mari's acknowledgement of it is the first to feel like a natural line of dialogue rather than exposition.
montage of bruce learning to use his bat powers so that they can get that out of the way before he joins the rest of the group. separate things that were already discussed being re-discussed so that we can have a "everyone talks at once scene". they. what. huh? they had a normal conversation that landed on "lets split into groups since theres enough of us to reasonably do that. then they have an argument which ends at the exact same conclusion.
are they really gonna have a "yang thinks diana is hot and blake gets jealous" plot line? really? and another love triangle. cy tries to ask nora to explain this worlds weapons, noras boyfriend(?) gets mad and then cy gets mad back and ends up being the one everyone gets upset with. it feels a bit. just. super uncomfortable. cy wasnt flirting he was just. talking to nora.
oh thank god that bit is over. now back to jess! possibly the most interesting character here. her design is probably my least favorite of the bunch tho, just because it feel a bit... too anime? it reminds me too much of my danganronpa phase, lol.
jaune doing plot device things. jess introspection. its not the most interesting thing but its better than uh. whatever happened with cy earlier. sorry im still thinking about that. i think they were just going for hormonal and temperamental teenager moment but it uh. came off weird.
plot twist everything was uh. void. ptsd monster things. the plots about to get convoluted isnt it.
diana is pretty decently fleshed out in this one. and it looks like they didnt lean into the diana being hot as a source of relationship conflict that much aside from a few jokes, thank god.
for fucks sake shut up jaune i dont care about your dead girlfriend.
back to the monster fighting group, dear god theyre doing one of those. 2 guys fight over girl who goes "umm i can take care of myself >:(". GOD SHUT UP. FUCK. ITS A JEALOUS LOVE TRIANGLE PLOT. please let this die sooner rather than later.
bruce describes everything that was just established. bruce is emo. weiss tries to be nice. then back to jess and jaune. "i didnt realize how much i miss this place" yeah well i sure dont miss it. oh pyrra, however your name is spelled, you were the only character death that meant anything. now if only they didnt degrade her story into being all about jaune even in death.
have weiss and bruce just been on the computer this whole time. at least they eventually get a fight scene. lesbians to the rescue time. stuff and things. i still dont care and jaune. fuckin. creator self insert ass. he was originally comic relief/audience surrogate but turned into way too much of a main character. god jess deserves her own movie.
weiss please stop trying to recruit him this is just embarrassing. is this gonna be a whole thing? bruce deciding between earth and remnant? and god you cant put anime style gags in the middle of a serious scene. oh god theyre making bruce insecure about not having powers like the rest of the league. man who could've seen that coming. christ theres still 20 minutes left. FUCK AND A WHOLE SECOND MOVIE.
jess remains the coolest bitch in this movie. god why couldnt it be a jess green lantern movie.
lesbians on motorcycles, blah blah fight scene. oh god we're pretending batman is cool. fake flash? wheres real barry then :/ christ. they think this is a cool twist. tho possessed barry is pretty fun. god the actual canon explanation for making them teens was bc kilg%re figured the hormones would make them easier to fuck with.
obligatory "even teens can be leaders" speech. the determination of humanity or whatever.
HAAA BRUCE AND BARRY MORSE CODE COMMUNICATION. ok thats cute.
so smth smth final battle but theres a mysterious second bad guy so that they still have content for a second movie. i like how they show vixen's powers, that parts fun. jess does main character thing and kills big bad. bruces conflict about going home is resolved. cy goes and makes amends with nora and guy who likes nora, despite guy who likes nora being the one to cause all the conflict in the first place. they make the go home portals. set up for next movie.

1. Consuming Shadows (of course, I love all of them)
2. CS chapter 52 and 53🤭
3. Harry
4. Harry/Tom|Voldemort
5. Gold Dust (and I must put ILYWT in here  even though it isn't a fic yet)
6. Kinda weird, but for CS it's when Hadrian and Riddle are sitting in Riddle's office, completely in peace (before they both go full dumbass mode). That scene probably got to me because CS started with Hadrian being Lily's puppet, his desire for revenge going strong to him now sitting besides Riddle, hoping that he'll ask him to stay in Britain.
7. The first chapter of bloodied hands & and velvet sheets, knowing what will happen next.
8. What's there not to like? But if I've to choose, I'll pick plot and characterization.
9. Literally all of them. I can't wait to see more of Regulus and Harry, what will Grindelwald do now that he knows that Harry is the Master of Death in ybtm, the third task in CS etc.
10. Barty and Harry, Regulus and Riddle, Regulus and Harry - never thought about those ship, had my eyes only for Harry and Riddle. I love them all now.
11. ILYWT!!! Also, some cross overs between your fics. It'd be so much fun to see how each of them react to different versions of themselves.
12. CS, ybtm, TLWD(BTPS), Reckless Hearts...just all of them basically.
13. Unfortunatelly no because I don't know anyone who even reads fics, let alone ship Tom and Harry🥲
14. TLWD(BTPS) - I can't wait for more☺
15. How long did it take you between the first time you got an idea for a fic and posting the first chapter (for each of them)?
Ask list 1. My favorite fic of yours 2. My favorite chapter in my favourite fic of yours 3. The best character you’ve written for 4. The best ship you’ve written for 5. A fic I haven't read yet from you, but I want to 6. Something I remember vividly from reading one of your fics 7. What made me the most emotional after reading 8. What I like the most about your writing 9. A fic i'm excited for you updating / posting 10. A character/ship I didn't enjoy/think about as much before you wrote about them 11. Something I wish / hope you write 12. A fic of yours that i've re-read 13. If i've ever shared / talked about your fic to someone else 14. A fic I didn't expect to like so much 15. A question I have about one of your fics
Darling, I went feral reading through this omg! You answered all of them 😍😍😍😍😍
CS reigns supreme here I see hahaha - it's brilliant!
Gosh I haven't thought about Gold Dust in aaggeess but I have such a soft spot for that story! I really need to go back and finish the next chapter.
Ooooh though I love that that is the 'vivid' scene for CS! It's such a subtle one, but you're right in that it has so much meaning. Their relationship has progressed so much - and then, as you say, they both turn into dumbasses 😂
BH&VS chapter 2 will be finished - I swear. It sounds mean but I gotta get Luna. I have to. I want people cry. And I'm blushing over the characterisation and ships bit. Having people unexpectedly like a story with a character/ship/plot they had never thought about before is delightful!
ILYWT is high on my list to be written, and maybe I'll dabble in oneshots for some of my crossovers. I kinda wanna see Hadrian and Ciro!Harry interact, ngl.
As for your question, from initial idea to first chapter:
CS: week/two weeks
ybtm: about a month
TLWD(BTPS): couple of months, it started as a tumblr post
BH&VS: about six months, it started as a tumblr post and I wanted to get the first chapter out for skitty's birthday
I can't really remember for the other stories, to be honest? On average I'd say it'd be maybe two weeks - month to form an idea, start planning it out, then writing, then posting.
Thanks for sending this in! It was wonderful to read 😘😘

aaaa- both fics that I’ve started reading and need to get back to T^T how could you do this </3 /j
And here the rest that I wanted to ask-🍄 🤔🛠
Hope you’re having a wonderful day/night!!
Lol I promise the fics are not going anywhere :P
🍄Decriscribe your wip/one of your wips in the format of “___ + ___ =___”
...Huh I just realized describe is spelled wrong in the ask game lol.
Anyway, let's go with a wip that hasn't seen the light of AO3 yet (but I'm very very excited to write eventually and very very normal about)
"bloodborne boss + player's role in the plot = something approaching a fix-it fic?"
🤔What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet?
I mean that dependdddss on what you mean by "haven't even started yet." Um. I'll cover all my bases to be safe.
If we go with the strictest definition possible, well... some friends of mine got me into pokeblogging, which is a silly little thing where you blog like you're in the world of pokemon, and it would be very fun to novelize the story of one of my too-many blogs in particular. (I have too many WIPs already though so if that ever happens it Won't Be For A While.)
If we go by the definition of "have notes but no actual writing" maybe that weird crossover between Hollow Knight and Undertale where Hallownest is underneath the Underground. It would be called "Where the Waterfall Ends: A Documentary" and be set in post-canon for both Undertale and Hollow Knight, and it would feature Undyne and Alphys having a silly little youtube channel where they investigate paranormal sightings and magical rumors. The big question of "so where DOES that waterfall go anyway" ends up being a lot bigger than they bargained for.
If we go by the definition of "some amount of writing done but nothing posted," probably the fic I mentioned for the "describe your wip" one. (Particularly considering that I might end up scrapping a lot of what I've got written already.) It's a Bloodborne fic, where - look, y'know what I did with Cynthia for Echoes, shoving her into the role of the protagonist of Pokemon Platinum? I'm planning to do the same damn thing for a third time with Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower. It will be a fucking delight and also incredibly stressful for her <3
(That one, when I eventually am able to write it - read, when I've actually finished playing Bloodborne and can knit my various thoughts and plans together into a coherent narrative - is going to be called "the beat of a long dead heart." I'm undecided on capitalization or not. Some fandoms it really fits the vibe to capitalize titles, some fandoms it really doesn't, and Bloodborne could go either way really.)
🛠Is there a scene or anything in the WIP you are struggling with right now?
Hmmmmmm. I mean, bold of the question to assume I only have one WIP first of all. Probably the biggest thing I'm struggling with re: TBOYL is getting my momentum going for it again. But I'm really quite close to the ending, and while I could theoretically just skip there, I don't want to. There's a few more legendaries and mythicals to cover and in the spirit of Cynthia we're covering all of them.
(In more mundane concerns, I keep marking a chapter as "this is the one where Darkrai will show up for real this time" and it ends up Not Being That lol. This keeps happening with TBOYL. It will happen again.)
Hope you are too, tyvm for the ask :)

Do you have a favorite fanfiction?
Oh, I used to have a list of favorites somewhere.
Here's a list off the top of my head from the fandoms I currently read fic from. (Edit: Oh lordy I hyper-fixated. this not a short list. Also, I'm ace and am not really attached to OTPs so pairings are almost never the same fic to fic)
These are all on Ao3.
Harry Potter:
Of a Linear Circle by @deadcatwithaflamethrower, I don't remember if it's still in progress but it's at a good stopping point for people that like to only read complete things. Epic length fix-it that is still technically canon compliant until shortly before Year 5.
Circles of Power by mad_martha. Post-canon Harry/Ron where Ron is a seer. My favorite depiction of interesting uses of divination magic in Harry Potter.
Island of Fire by esama. Incomplete, and probably abandoned. It is technically a cross-over but I know nothing about the other fandom. A take on what if Harry Potter characters were stranded on a deserted island.
The secret language of plants by Edrina. I don't remember if it's complete or not. It's tagged in my bookmarks as 'the one with the socialist uprising at hogwarts'.
The Sum of Their Parts by holdmybeer. Complete. Post-canon Dark Lord!Harry. Could be read as Harry/Ron/Hermione. Harry notices government change only happens due to a Dark Lord. Chaos ensues.
Marvel:
Damaged Defenders by Sherza. Epic length fix-it. Started shortly before Captain America: Winter Soldier. Canon divergence during the first Avengers movie. Incomplete, but I still have hope that it's not abandoned.
Love is for Children by YsabetWordsmith. The Avengers get therapy through non-sexual ageplay. It's fabulous series and equal parts angst and fluff. In progress and still updating semi-regularly.
Coulson Lives but the Avengers might be the death of him by NiennaNir. Mostly canon compliant until partway through Age of Ultron, though the fic starts soon after the first Avengers. A team as family series.
The Butterfingers G.D.I Stark Guide to Problem Solving by Epiphanyx7. The one where Dummy You and Butterfingers make a baby because they are worried about Tony.
Take All The Courage by prettybirdy979. Usually I don't like misunderstandings in fic but I understand why this one happens. When you are trying to teach a blind guy sign language without him letting you know he's blind, things aren't gonna go when. Daredevil and Avengers team up.
Eight-Armed Hugs by Not_You. In all honesty this one is pretty weird. The best summary would be the description on Ao3. "The obvious corollary to hawk!Clint fics is a spider!Natasha fic".
Yes Phil Coulson does wear jeans by orderlychaos. Written shortly after the first Avengers movie. Very important detail to me: Tony has an army of sentient roombas. One of which is named dave.
Infinite Coffee and Protection Detail by owlet. At the end of Captain America: Winter Soldier, a switch flips in Bucky's brain and he decides to protect Steve without letting Steve know he's there. Favorite tag: "Everyone has their sassy pants on".
Use Your Words 'Verse by SmutLover. Team as Family, canon-divergence after Captain America: Winter Soldier, excellent use of social media.
Star Wars:
Re-Entry and Re-Entry: Journey of the Whills by @deadcatwithaflamethrower. Two beyond epic length Star Wars prequel fix its. The second is a continuation of the first, and is currently on hiatus.
A Star to Steer By by dogmatix and norcumi. Star Wars / Stargate crossover where the goa'uld are actually Sith. I knew almost nothing about Stargate when I read this the first time and it was really good. Incomplete but I think still in progress.
The Vode by RoseThorn14. A whumpy (at least in the beginning) arranged marriage Cody/Obi Wan fic. Incomplete, but I think still in progress.
Implications by AngelQueen. A funny one shot where Palpatine tries to make Anakin think that Padme is cheating on him with Obi Wan and Anakin thinks, well I have two hands....

Nobody asked but here’s a list of animes that gave me absolute batshit insane brainworms in no particular order since for some reason I was thinking about this today:
(literally just me ranting under the cut lmao)
1.) Sailor Moon - god, which little girl didn’t love Sailor Moon in the early 2000s? I was obsessed. Watched it like a religion. The manga. The art. The homoerotic overtones. The cute outfits. The princess that can fight. It still has a stranglehold on my heart. Although I tried to watch that Sailor Moon Crystal reboot and they just... bastardized it. It looks so bad lmao.
2.) Dragon Ball Z - I think Gohan specifically made me insane. Oh, you didn’t try to do kamehameha blasts? You didn’t try to do Fushion-Ha with your friends? You didn’t pretend you could fly just by sheer force of will like Videl? Get out of here. I may or may not have written some self-insert fanfics that were DBZ/Sailor Moon crossovers as a kiddo. Lmao.
3.) Yu Yu Hakusho - this is by far the worst offender on this list and probably still tops my favorite anime/mangas of all time. I’m talking obsessed. I can’t describe how many times I’ve seen it, collected all the manga volumes, collected the trading cards, bought and played every video game. Delinquent with a heart of gold? Second chances? Being alone and not seeing the point of your life but finding friends and a purpose and joy? Damn I sure wonder why this took over my entire teenage existence.... Also on a fandom note I think at this point I started being old enough to like, seek out fanfiction and get into slash. Fanfiction.net was a fuckin’ warzone lol. I was very weirdly into Yusuke/Kurama, too, and there wasn’t shit with that pairing anywhere. It holds up incredibly well. Spirit Gun?! Bad bitches only. Come on.
4.) Gravitation - this one I don’t really have an excuse for. It was like 15 episodes but it made me straight up crazy. I collected all the manga. The fact that it was a BL book didn’t even like, click in my teenage brain. But the mysterious writer with a dark past? The naive and sweet lead singer of a band that acts like an idiot but has pipes for days? Urgh. As a concept, its still like, the best band anime I’ve seen. Plus all the songs fucking SLAP. It does NOT hold up on rewatch lol. Shuuichi is frankly annoying and Erie is a fucking dick. Plus on re-read the author is... uh.... kind of obsessed with physically and violently raping Erie in her own doujinshi and painting gay men as predators. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
5.) My Hero Academia - *shows you around* yeah. here we are. Mind you, I haven’t been weird about anime in a solid like... 10 years but something about it activated my weeb sleeper cells and it has lived rent free in the my brain ever since. Everyone who shits on MHA is a hater lol. Story wise, character wise, design wise it tops my ‘greatest anime of all time’ list.
Speaking of the greatest animes of all time... the list above does not represent what I think about them in terms of quality, just that they scratched an itch that I can’t really put a finger on. Now in terms of objective quality, I’d definitely remove Gravitation, Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball and replace it with Fullmetal Alchemist and Hunter x Hunter.
Fullmetal Alchemist is the best, full stop. The power system is beautifully thought out and really interesting. The entire plot if heavily character driven. The ‘villains’ are engaging and you feel some degree of sympathy for them. Its probably the anime I would recommend to anyone who wanted to watch anime for the first time. Absolutely stupendous.
I think if I watched HxH at a younger age it would have probably had the same stranglehold on me as the above mentioned. Its so outlandish and weird, the characters are all memorable, the villains are fascinating, and its just driven so heavily by this perfect, pure friendship of Gon and Killua. There’s no other relationship in shonen that I can think of that is just that... good. They’re literally best friends. They would literally rip the world apart for each other. The fight between Kurapika and Uvogin will forever be one my favorite animated fights of all time. ALL TIME.
Honorable mentions that I’ve watched probably multiple times and enjoyed significantly:
Ouran High School Host Club - god its so campy. So cute. So character driven. Beautiful.
One Punch Man - really really enjoying it so far. Will continue to watch. Super hilarious.
Regarding some really popular animes right now (AKA me shitting on people’s faves... sorry. I’m just a hater) :
Jujutsu Kaisen - am watching right now. I like it enough to keep watching, but I will say their power system and character introduction has been a tad lackluster and I’m not super into it. The animation is beautiful, though.
Demon Slayer - am enjoying for sure. Will continue to watch. Same thing - the designs are beautiful, the art is breathtaking and it's an interesting concept, but I don’t really feel that invested in any of the characters. It just doesn’t have that emotional pull for me. What they built with Rengoku’s character and arc surpasses the emotional development of the rest of the characters in the series for me, easy.
Haikyuu! - y’all got me to watch a sports anime. How. Overall, I liked it. Will continue to watch it. But damn does it do, like, NOTHING for me. Hinata’s and Kageyama’s friendship/rivalry is really the anchor of this whole series. Plus I love a short king underdog upbeat protagonist, what can I say.
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - I’ve seen most of it and... yeah, it's really just not for me. I sincerely do not get the hype. The outfits slap though.
Death Note - read it before it got animated and really liked it as a standalone, but wouldn’t reread. Amazing plot, engaging characters, unique in every way and the art is mesmerizing. But honestly I’ve tried to watch the anime multiple times and it's just... eh. Can’t get through it. There’s just some stories that aren’t as good when you animate them.
Attack on Titan - fascinating concept, cool outfit/power system design and super engaging. I’ve seen a lot of it, but they kinda lost me with the ‘twist’ of where Titans come from. It's like the author had this amazing concept and literally didn’t know how to execute it. Also like... Levi literally carries that show. Eren? Bitch. Armin? I wanted to like him so bad, but uh. Bitch. Mikasa? I think you know where I’m going with this lol. Stopped watching.
I’ve never seen Bleach, One Piece, Naruto, Inuyasha and never will lmao. I think next on the list will be Mob Psycho 100.

what are some crossovers that intrigue you in theory but that youre not sure how to make work, if you know what i mean?
*steeples fingers* Okay. I know exactly what you mean, Anon. Having more of a justification for a crossover than 'I like these two (or more) things so I want to write the characters interacting' is important to me when I'm writing a crossover fic, so I look for that in the crossovers I read. Naturally, some fandoms are ridiculously easy to cross with something else because of the nature of what goes in canon, and some are a lot trickier. It can be difficult to pull on those little connecting threads to build a story into a more believable crossover.
Now, I'll be honest with you. It's rare that I look in a crossover section for something that I just can't see working at all. I've done it, but I have yet to find something that's actually satisfying to me if it's completely random, mostly because no explanation for the crossover is ever given, or it's some outside force that is never explained, and the fics tend to be unfinished and dead because the author ran into trouble with it.
So.
Can I give you specific examples of what you're talking about? Not really, not at this precise moment--even though I've been sitting on this ask for a couple of days. There's nothing in my back pocket that I'd really like to see but doesn't have any common ground whatsoever, mostly because when I think of crossovers I might do or would like to see done, I start with the commonalities, which means I start from a point of 'how could I make this work based on what I already have?'. I am perfectly willing to fudge a bit of canon to make something work if I'm trying to do a crossover, clutching onto my common threads and going, "I can come up with an explanation for the discrepancies, just watch me." (Example: Rise of the Guardians and Narnia re: Santa Claus/North) I can talk generalities, though.
Take The Good Place, something I've no desire to write fanfic for because I like what the show did. Could you write a crossover with it? Absolutely. Could you write a crossover with it with something that shows an afterlife/heaven/hell that's contrary to what they show there, like Lucifer or Supernatural? Yes, I'd argue you could, but it's a lot harder, at least without jumping to the alternate dimension thing, which is canon for both Lucifer and SPN. Most of the commonalities are contradictory, and then you have to come up with explanations about why that is. (Well, you don't, but I like that, so I do, and I'd look for that in a fic I was reading.)
Other things that are difficult for me to figure out how to make it work in general tend to be stuff that very obviously take place in different dimensions (or time periods where the time periods are different enough it's not within the lifetimes of the characters you want to write and you want more than parallels/tangential connections). If one of the fandoms has canonical dimensional (or time) travel, regardless of how easy that is to accomplish, then all you need to do is figure out how to get the characters back to where they started at the end of it all, and you take what you're given for getting them there. But something where interdimensional/time travel doesn't exist in either one? That's hard. It means you need to create that, and depending on the fandom, that might not be easy. You need magic or tech or something beyond some force that never gets explained (preferably) to make the crossover happen and then straighten things out at the end, assuming you actually intend to straighten things out at the end and not just leave it unresolved.
To be fair, for most of the media I consume, I have magic or tech or at least some supernatural force at my disposal. I read/watch stuff that tends to involve that. Would I write a crossover between Dead Like Me and Avatar: The Last Airbender? Probably not. Could I come up with a wild explanation to make it work, or at least make it work well enough because I'm trying to tie it together? Yes. Through the spirit world and the afterlife. (Dead Like Me is all about Grim Reapers, after all.) Like so: George thought going to her own funeral was weird enough. She could've done without this shit, but turning down the promotion hadn't sounded optional, and now she's got a sticky note with an E.T.D. on it for some guy named Lu Ten--at least she has a full name to work with--at the outer wall of Ba Sing Se, wherever the hell that's supposed to be.
