20 questions for fic writers
tagged by the fabulous @cfr749. Please go read her fics and join me in screeching over them!!
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 28
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 103,520
3. What fandoms do you write for? The Rookie (Chenford), and previously for Chicago PD (Linstead)
4. What are your top five fics by kudos? - stay - i want you to be happier - i don't wanna think of anything else (now that i thought of you) - all at once this is enough - now everything is easy (cause of you)
5. Do you respond to comments? I didn't when I first started posting fics (though I often think about going back and replying to them now, but that would probably be weird lol). But yes, now I definitely respond to comments. I am absolutely giddy over every single one I receive, and so I love to express that appreciation!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Hmmmm I don't think any of them? I tend to leave even the angstiest fics on a hopeful note. But I suppose either just close your eyes (you'll be alright) or you know the greatest films of all time were never made just because of where they land in relation to the events of the show?
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Probably in paper rings, in picture frames, and all my dreams, because, hello, 💍
8. Do you get hate on fics? Thankfully I have only seen positive feedback, which is so so lovely. This fandom is wonderful 💖
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I do not, because I'm too chicken. Maybe one day? (iykyk)
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? No. I can't stand crossover fics. 😬
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I'm aware of!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?  Not by me!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes! My babe @timandlucy and I have a collab that we started a while ago and have recently talked about picking up again! And we have an idea for another one brewing too! And @makeitastrength and I have on that's sitting on the backburner, but hopefully we will make happen!
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? Chenford!
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I want to say none because I'm way too fucking stubborn to give up on anything. But *sigh* Home... 😬😬😬😬😬 (it's been 5½ years, so it's not looking particularly hopeful)
16. What are your writing strengths? Oh man, I don't know? I hope I do a decent enough job of getting their voices right? Dialogue is often a battle, but that's probably because of how insane particular I am. I will say things out loud, play around with words, etc. to make sure it really feels like something they would say.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Being too indecisive and my lack of confidence (which, frankly, go hand in hand).
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I haven't done it, but I would definitely be looking to lean on a native speaker to ensure I do it correctly!
19. First fandom you wrote for? Chicago PD (Linstead)
20. Favorite fic you’ve written? So hard, but i want you to be happier has a special place in my heart. It was a challenge to write, but the words still came so easily. And when I go back and re-read it, I don't cringe, so that's a win right there!
Thanks Lana! 🥰

20 questions for fic writers
Thank you so much to @cfr749, @sisterofficerlucychen, @mamadoc, and @queseraone for tagging me in this! I was on vacation last week which is why it's taken me forever to answer.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
29
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
213,510
3. What fandoms do you write for?
On AO3, only The Rookie. But I used to write for Castle on ffnet
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
The spaces in between
Unless it is
The (E-rated) spaces in between
Tell me you love me (without any words)
Put me back together piece by piece
5. Do you respond to comments?
Yes! I used to be very inconsistent about this, but now I always make sure to reply to every comment because I want people to know how much I appreciate every single one
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I generally at least make sure the ending is hopeful, even if it's not completely happy. I guess the most angsty ending is either this one or this chapter
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Hmmm... most of them? But if I have to pick just one, I guess maybe this one since the whole thing is really just them being so completely in love and happy
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Luckily, no. Not in this fandom. I got quite a bit for Castle though, which is part of the reason I left that fandom behind
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do. I seem to be incapable of writing just plain old smut, though. Somehow the emotions always find their way in. So if you're looking for porn + feelings, I've got you covered
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I have not, and I don't think I ever will
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yes, once, when I wrote for Castle. Someone took it from ffnet and posted it under their own name on AO3. Luckily, someone from the fandom noticed and told me, and I was able to get the fic taken down
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, a couple people translated a couple of my Castle fics back in the day
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I have not, but @queseraone and I have an idea for one that is hopefully going to be a summer hiatus project 😊
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
For so many years it was Caskett, but I think Chenford has taken over the top spot now
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Oh gosh, I have so many partial ideas and little tidbits jotted down on my laptop, and I have no idea which, if any, will ever see the light of day. In theory I will some day write all of them, but I know that's not actually going to happen
16. What are your writing strengths?
I'd like to think my strengths are characterization and attention to detail
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I'm not a very creative writer. I never have been. I'm not good at thinking up characters on my own or building my own story from scratch. But if you give me the characters and universe and all of those details, I could write about them all day
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Hmmm. I don't think I've ever done it. If I did, I'd definitely use multiple translation tools to ensure accuracy. And if I knew someone who spoke the language, I would reach out to them too
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Castle
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
I've been asked this question multiple times over the past couple years, and I keep thinking someday I'll write something new that I really love and I'll be able to give a different answer. But nope. It's still this one
I think most everyone has already been tagged in this over the past week, so I'm tagging anyone who hasn't answered these questions yet but wants to!

20 Qs for Fic Writers
thanks for the tag @hippolotamus and @stereopticons! How many works do you have on ao3?
114
What's your total ao3 word count?
335,245
What fandoms do you write for?
I have written for Schitt’s Creek, 9-1-1, RWRB, and Necessary Evils
Top five fics by kudos:
It's love and I've got the proof (9-1-1)
right here waiting (9-1-1)
all the lies about me (9-1-1)
The Paperwork (9-1-1)
stick & poke (9-1-1) (bonus because I want to include SC)
Where He is Now (SC)
Do you respond to comments?
I do! I love when people take the time to leave one, so I will always respond.
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I don't write fics with angsty endings. I like to wrap things up neatly (and usually with a punchy last line).
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
All of the endings are happy.
Do you get hate on fics?
I have. I delete that shit because nobody asked for it and it's rude as fuck.
Do you write smut?
Why yes I do. 😏
Craziest crossover:
SC/911 is my only crossover, so.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yep. Not in any of the fandoms I'm in now, but in the past.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have not.
Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
Yes! I love a co-write!
All time favourite ship?
"David & Patrick is always my big cruise ship." - @stereopticons (I'm keeping that because it's excellent.)
What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Perhaps shockingly, I do not have any lingering WIPs.
What are your writing strengths?
I have been told I'm good at setting a scene, drop in moments, and making things feel real/lived in.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Can't use a comma correctly to save my life. And needing heaps of validation from my designated flailers.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
I've used it. I think it's fun when the situation is right. I had someone that actually speaks the language translate everything for me. I probably would not have used it without having that resource available.
First fandom you wrote in?
I plead the fifth on this one.
Favourite fic you've written?
Honestly, the original fic I'm working on now. I'm proud of every fic I've written (even the terrible early stuff), because it was what I wanted to say at the time. But I LOVE what I'm writing now, and that' fun, too.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
tagged by @usereddie
How many works do you have on ao3?
14.
What's your total ao3 word count?
102,977
What fandoms do you write for?
911 and once, a lifetime ago, The Raven Cycle.
Top five fics by kudos:
making love to the flashes
maybe love won't let you down
my hearts a secret (tell me you'll keep it)
all i know since yesterday
things you don't say reach me somehow anyway
Do you respond to comments?
i do some of the time! I usually will respond to longer comments if I have something to say.
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
it's some things fall when they're meant to fall, but i'm incapable of writing angsty endings so now that fic has two more chapters to come and will (spoilers) end happily.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
they all have pretty happy endings so it's hard to pick the happiEST ending but maybe things you don't say because that's the only fic I can think of that ends on an actual "I love you."
Do you get hate on fics?
no thankfully! I think i got one semi-rude comment on my first smut fic but that's about it.
Do you write smut?
i sure do.
Craziest crossover:
I don't write crossovers!
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that I'm aware of.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
not that I know of!
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
no but I still think about The Ultimatum AU that @colonoscopys and I plotted together in a brief bout of reality TV induced insanity.
All time favorite ship?
it WAS Stucky and they will always hold a very special and sacred place in my heart but honestly...........it's Buddie.
What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I am full of deranged optimism and truly believe i WILL someday finish all my WIPs :)
right now roommates fic is the one that haunts me the most.
What are your writing strengths?
dialogue, characterization, writing about people pining, moving between different tones (silly, heartfelt, horny, angsty, etc)
What are your writing weaknesses?
writing any kind of scene that's not just two people talking to each other LMAO.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
I never write it myself because I only speak one language (😭) but it's cool to see in other fics when it makes sense for the story!
First fandom you wrote in?
Rurouni Kenshin 😊 I was 12.
Favorite fic you've written?
It's a tie between maybe love won't let you down and making love to the flashes. These also happen to be my most popular fics and I feel like it's because you can tell how much fun I had writing them (although two very different kinds of fun).

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Thank you @xottan for the tag!!! This beginner is humbled and honored that you'd think to tag me so ended up doing this instead of sleeping.
How many works do you have on ao3?
(4) in my heart; (6) according to ao3. The first (3) were meant to be one thing, but I didn’t know better. Thought a series would tie them together as one unit more than it actually did.
2. What’s your total ao3 word count?
157,510… I have mixed feelings about this. I love writers who have an economy of words so I suspect proper editing would cut that crazy number down, but I don't have a proper editing process.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Marvel Cinematic Universe and Sherlock with an eye towards some anime one day
4. Top five fics by kudos
By pure kudo count, the top three go to the three parts of the
For Appearance’s Sake series (Frostiron) followed by
The Doctor’s Choices (a Johnlock WIP) and
Bend Thee Aghast Challenge (a Frostmaster WIP)
but the kudo rank is nearly identical to the posting dates so with only a four month Ao3 career, I’m not sure kudos is a fair way to judge the work
5.Do you respond to comments?
I do now! @lokislonelylady helped me get over the initial comment response fear and I’m forever grateful. Writing and posting also gave me more confidence to leave comments for others’ works and @xottan was the first writer to respond at length. That was a game changer. I didn’t expect responses and still don’t, but it was nice to feel a connection (thank you!!), so now I make it a point to respond to any comments I get as soon as I can or at least before the next post. I don’t get many so it’s easy enough
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Angsty… maybe Unbinding (part three of that first series)? I was told the last part was a bit depressing before the comfort hit.
7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Uh… only 2 works have an actual ending so far… but I suspect The Doctor’s Choices will be the happiest ending of what I have in the works.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not on the fics itself, not yet. More for not knowing what I’m doing, like tagging. The first version of tagging for For Appearance’s Sake series was a mess. Also for not understanding the ship I first ventured into.
9. Do you write smut?
Ehm. Yes. Not sure that I'm particularly good at it, probably not but I only have one story that’s not explicit/dark, and that was just for a therapy assignment.
10. Craziest crossover?
None as of yet
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not yet. It’s early
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope, but that sounds cool.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not yet. I’ve never even had a beta reader… collabs sounds interesting.
14. All time favorite ship?
Great question. This one is hard. It was Johnlock for a long time. I started reading in the MCU eight months ago, and the MCU has so many creative pairings that I’m just confused. That said, based on the various works in progress and ideas popping in my head, it must be Frostiron at the moment.
15. What’s a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
None. This question prompted me to go fix what I hated about the wip and so, I'm good. I consider Fools’ Scheme a work in progress. Technically, it functions well enough as part 2 in the series in terms of moving the plot along, but considering the whole thing suddenly deviated to an emotional, happy ending, that middle part really needs some emotions massaged into make it work better with part 3, but emotionss are so hard.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I’d love to say action with a bit of world building, but who knows? It’s hard to judge your own work, and based on the comments from the English professor in college… this ESL kid was barely understandable.
Realistically, the strength I can confidently talk about is speed. Based on the past four months, I average about 1200 words an hour when at a computer; 600 an hour on my phone (though to be fair, usually when I’m writing on the phone… I’m also supposed to be doing something else… like work). Makes me question my career choice (zero writing involved in my day job). With this writing speed, I really would have been making bang during Dickenson’s day where writers got paid per word.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Emotionsss. How other writers put emotions on paper is beyond me.  I do okay with fear and anger but the feels? like love and sadness? Absolute crap, and I don’t know that it will get better since the moment my writing starts down that path, I nope out of there so fast that I’m done writing for that day or it pours out of me in an unfiltered melodrama that I can't imagine anyone wants to read and I’m a wreck for half a week.
Other than that, choppiness. I focus so much on the action and plot that some of it comes out short and action, action, action without the why... this is especially true because my adhd has me jumping from scene to scene or even story to story as I write. Literally Johnlock for ten minutes, then it’s Frostmaster for a paragraph, jump to two separate Frostirons I have going on in the back, and a random Loki & Nebula that’s brewing before jumping back to Johnlock. =.=;;; my brain…
18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
Yesss. It would be fun to do it in the way Groot is handled in the MCU.
19. First fandom you wrote in?
MCU - Tony Stark/Loki, though it was without even understanding what Frostiron was. I must have read like five Tony Stark/Loki before jumping into writing an unplanned novel, and in all of them, Tony was pretty mean to some weak version of Loki. My fix was to make Loki a bit stronger so that he could send Tony to prison… turns out most people in Frostiron sees them together. Halfway through writing them, I suddenly realized why;;; They’re so alike.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
It varies from moment to moment. Literally, it’s the fic I’m working on and since the last thing I typed is Let’s do ‘Just a slave’, (Thor & Loki) that is the one at the moment, even if it was a therapy assignment.
It’s not representative of my usual stuff but I did manage to write it in a single sitting of three hours and found it fun, so I guess it counts.
***done!***
Well, that was interesting. More challenging and fun than I had imagined.
Tagging someone: I also tag @lokislonelylady, though, like @xottan says, no pressure. Don’t know if you can even write until you’re fully healed. Sending my love and gratitude either way! Honestly, there should be an amazing commenters’ version of this because @lokislonelylady , you brighten people's day with your comments! I have learned to comment just as much thanks to you.
And while there's really no reason anyone else will stumble on my tumblr, but if you do and you’re writer, consider yourself tagged! (if you want)

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Stole this from @curator-on-ao3. (Thank you for the open tag!)
1. how many works do you have on Ao3?
111, not including the dozens of ficlets and short one-shots I've posted as separate chapters in fic collections.
2. what's your total Ao3 word count?
614,875 and counting.
3. what fandoms do you write for?
I've written for: Star Trek (TOS/AOS/DISC), Star Trek: Enterprise, Labyrinth (1986), Marvel, Once Upon a Time, Shadow and Bone, and LOTR: The Rings of Power.
4. what are your top five fics by kudos?
The Princess and the King (Labyrinth, Jareth/Adult Sarah) A little girl wanders into the Underground and Jareth's life is forever changed. [3,467 words]
Text Alert (MCU, Loki/Jane Foster) Late one night, Jane found herself in an online chat room for Harvard alums. She and the user youweremadetoberuled hit it off and began a strange, anonymous friendship. [16,129 words]
Intoxicated (Star Trek TOS/AOS/DISC, Sarek/Amanda Grayson) Amanda Grayson sets out to make nice with Sarek, the infuriating Vulcan ambassador to Earth. Her future career prospects are on the line, after all. There's only one problem: the ambassador isn't quite himself. [9,034 words]
Drunk Dial (Labyrinth, Jareth/Adult Sarah) Five times Sarah drunk-called the Goblin King. One time he sobered her up. [7,138 words]
Touch (MCU, Loki/Jane Foster) The first touch was her fist to his jaw, and she thought the last was when he pushed her out of the way of a Dark Elf bomb—until he showed up years later with a proposition she had trouble turning down. [4,014 words]
5. do you respond to comments?
Yes, absolutely. That's my favorite part about writing fic—being able to interact with readers. Sometimes I'm slow in replying, but I promise I always will.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I have a few stories with unhappy endings, but I think this one is the most gut-wrenching read: Just a Dream (Labyrinth, Jareth/Adult Sarah) He can have her in their shared dreams, but is it enough? Obsession can be a dangerous thing. [1,644 words]
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I tend to mostly write happy endings—at least for stories that have a proper ending. I think there would be too many to list here.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
It's happened infrequently. I just delete the comments. I'm too old and tired for that kind of manufactured drama.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
No, not really. I mean I have a few—very few—M-rated stories, but it's pretty much all feelings with pretty words and metaphors. The tension is my favorite part. When it comes to resolving it, I tend to be a "pan to the sky" writer.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I have written a couple. The zaniest? When Fairy Tale Meets Mythology (OUAT, Captain Swan; MCU, Loki/Jane Foster) While searching for Henry, Emma and Hook happen upon a strange couple in Neverland. [1,209 words]
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I was asked once, but I don't know if they followed through. I have had someone turn one of my stories into a podfic, though.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yep. I'm a fandom old. I hail from the days of doing fic Round Robins and fandom Big Bangs.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
The USS Enterprise NCC 1701 D, though the Jolly Roger comes in as a close second.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
The companion fic to Three Months on Vulcan where we follow the escapades of Soval and Amanda Cole as she works as his assistant. I was going to call it Lost in Translation. But my drive to write it has fizzled out over the years. I just don't have it in me.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Fleshed out characters, humor, pretty prose, banter.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
F I N I S H I N G. Seriously, that's my goal for 2024: to finish at least 3 of my languishing multi-chapter fics. Also, I want to improve my longfic game. I tend to rush through the plot.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I've done it, though I try not to overdo it. And I try to make it easy for the reader to understand from context so they don't have to constantly jump to end notes for the translations. I've been super fortunate to have a native-speaking fandom friend help me with Norwegian for some of my MCU stories. I've used Google Translate for Icelandic, and the Vulcan Language Database. Trying to write in Quenya is the worst, though. Never again! *gives Tolkien a side-eye*
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Star Trek: Enterprise
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
That's like asking me to choose a favorite child. How about one for each fandom:
Through the Dark Mirror Series (Star Trek: Enterprise, Trip/T'Pol) Stories that take place before, during, and after the events of the "In a Mirror, Darkly" episodes. [14,633 words and counting]
Pertinacious Wills (Labyrinth, Jareth/Adult Sarah) Regency AU Sarah Williams’s life is turned upside down when her widowed father remarries. At the same time, a new lord has taken over the Labyrinth who may be the most insufferable man Sarah has ever known. But as she is thrown in, quite against her will, with him and his kind, she discovers mysteries that call to question everything she thought she knew. [46,963 words and counting]
Blood for Blood (MCU, Loki/Jane Foster) He missed his chance by a heartbeat—the difference between life and death. Now, the mantle of savior rests on Loki’s shoulders. Will the mercurial God of Mayhem rise to the challenge of rescuing the nine realm from eternal darkness? [4,330 words]
The Worth of a Broken Soul (OUAT, Outlaw Queen) As a Keeper of the Watch, Robin hasn't been a mortal's personal guardian in centuries, but he's been tasked with a special case. Regina Mills is full of hate and anger, her aura so black it's difficult to find any hope left inside of her. Robin is determined to succeed in his assignment, even if it requires unconventional methods, but drawing her closer to Redemption is changing him as well. Will he pay any price for her salvation? For the salvation, too, of the lost souls he's unwittingly collected along the way? [14,407 words and counting]
The Nightwalker Chronicles Series (OUAT, Captain Swan) Emma Swan is an expert private investigator, but recently she's witnessed things that even she cannot explain. The only one willing to help her safely navigate the underbelly of the city in search of answers is the man who saved her life, a mysterious artist with secrets of his own. [6,448 and counting]
I haven't written much for either Shadow and Bone or The Rings of Power, and I don't feel like I have proper favorites for them.
Yes, I know I'm not listing any of my comedies, dear friend who knows who they are. That's because they aren't *my* favorites.
Tagging: Are you a fic writer? Consider yourself tagged by me—if you want to play, that is.

Note
I'm late to the game buttttt if you still wanna answer :3
Any worldbuilding you’re particularly proud of?
What’s a trope, AU, or concept you’ve never written, but would like to?
Link a fic that made you think, “Wow, I want to write like that.”
XD these renumbered on you and I was like "Wait a minute, those aren't back to back like that." Ah Tumblr and how the list function works.
Anyway, let's dig in! And you're not late, you're the first for this ask.
World-building I'm particularly proud of - that would be the Grandline Metro AU. It doesn't hurt that I'm currently using it for four different titles, because that gives me the ability to really turn it over in my hands and decide on the finer details.
But I get a lot of positive comments about how well I melded modern concepts with shout-outs to the original world, so I'm glad it works and doesn't come across as clunky or awkward.
Hmm... something I've never written but would like too. I don't want to count things I have planned, but I can't think of anything at the moment... I guess I'd have to say something where the reader dies. I don't know if I'd ever had the guts to do it, but I've enjoyed the few times I've read it from other writers. At least so far - it'd be interesting to write myself, but Idk if I will. ^^;
This is something I just read recently, but JFC it fucked me up in all the best possible ways. I want to be able to write something so emotionally powerful. Maybe for someone else I have already, and sometimes I can feel the tug myself, but - idk - it might be impossible to be moved by my own words the way I can be moved by someone else's, but this just WRECKED ME.
I could run myself dry on character limits for a post talking about all the wonderfully talented people I've met and become friends with. How everyone probably feels like me - like they're just kind of middle of the lane, neither awful nor awesome, and they're in awe of everyone around them.
But @cyborg-franky is a damned master mind. I was Sobbing.

Through Ice and Fire (Angbang)
Hmm. Interesting. I think people like the Angbang :D
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I respond to all comments... sooner or later. Or at least try to. Sometimes I lack either time or social battery, but I always see the comments as they come in and appreciate them (regardless of how long it takes me to express that)🤍
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I think that would be ... and in the darkness bind them. It's not too angsty for Olórin/Gandalf who is the POV character in this, but for Melkor and Mairon it's very tragic (we all know what happened).
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Hard to say. I think most of my fics either have a happy ending or are just PWP... I'm going to go with The Rogue Royal Wedding which ends on a high note with wedding and all (who would've guessed :P).
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not really. I don't think anything I do is relevant enough for that... all I had so far was some random homophobia in my Tumblr inbox.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Oh yes. Oh yes I do. A lot. Soft sex, dead dove, anything in-between, you name it.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I had an idea a while ago, but ended up not writing it.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I've had offers, but I had to decline because I wasn't comfortable with the way I was approached.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I'm doing it as we speak! Stay tuned for that ;)
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
You're going to be shocked, but it's Angbang.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
The one WIP I know is dead for sure is the long fic for a different fandom that I no longer want to write for. A shame really. I have some 5+ years old Silmarillion WIPs too, but I do plan on rewriting those.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think I'm good at coming up with and exploring all sorts of different dynamics.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I lack some practice with long/longer fics. I think I could pull it off, at least once I work on that, but the other issue is that I need something new and fresh regularly so it's also hard for me to stay motivated.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
It could be neat for atmosphere or flavor, but shouldn't come at the reader's expense, as in the author needs to make sure a translation is provided or some sort of other way to understand what's going on - unless, of course, the entire purpose was that something is being said that the POV character doesn't understand.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Hmmm... my first writings were technically fandom stuff, but also not because it quickly evolved into my own work so...
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Genuinely no idea. There are always new projects I end up loving. Tags: @maironite @i-did-not-mean-to @curufiin @fraeuleinfriedhof @demonscantgothere @a-world-of-whimsy-5 and everyone else who wants to! Tell me something about yourself, beloved friends and mutuals!

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Thanks for the tag, @chainofclovers!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
41
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 301,363
3. What fandoms do you write for?
It's really just Ted Lasso. I wrote a bit for The Lizzie Bennet Diaries years and years ago and then a couple one-offs for Schitt's Creek and The 100, but it wasn't much.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
my body over yours
calamine
when we were young
It's Great to Stay Up Late
love the lasso way
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, but I fell off for a while at the end of the last year. I feel weird not responding to comments and also it's just really nice to chat with people in comments. It's where I first met many of my fandom friends! Alas, it's harder to respond to comments on a multichapter because the story isn't done and I don't want to give anything away so I'm just like repeatedly saying "thanks for sticking with this fic!!"
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
home again - I pretty much only write happy endings, but the most open-ended thing I wrote was this post-finale fic for Ted Lasso that I suppose some people might find angsty for reasons (it's really not angsty, but like...I could see making an argument for it).
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
leader of the pack - To me this is the happiest possible ending to AppleTV+ Ted Lasso: a future fic with Ted and Rebecca happy together, splitting their time between London and Kansas until Ted's eventual retirement from coaching, but they still visit the games in the fan section (where the season ticket holders have a permanent seat saved for Ted).
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not that I'm aware of.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Not really. I've only written it as part of a larger story and I guess I don't tap into writing it very easily without a larger story to frame it (basically I need a whole lot of build up or context before I can write it which I suspect is thanks to demisexuality lmao)
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I’ve never set out to write a crossover, but I realized after the fact that my Ted Lasso goes on Queer Eye fic is in fact a crossover.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, just brainstormed with a friend or had a convo that sparked something, but never actually co-written anything with someone else.
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
I don't have one! I don't like picking favorites in general and for ships there are different faves for different things and different faves for different seasons of life. I'm currently hyper-fixated on Ted/Rebecca, but that doesn't necessarily make them my all-time favorite ship.
15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Hmm idk. I think the ones I want to finish are still able to be finished and any other ones I'm good with them remaining WIPs. I only have one active Ted/Rebecca WIP posted on ao3 and I plan to finish it.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I think it’s dialogue. My honors English teacher said I was funny once and I've latched on to that as well.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I tend to get focused on plot and what's happening and I find it harder to just write someone's thoughts and emotions without it veering into melodrama (or at least it feels like melodrama to me).
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I think it's very cool if you are someone who knows another language or has the resources to do so and it works for the character/story/fic. Unfortunately I am terrible at languages (including my own) so I'll just appreciate it when someone else does it.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
I definitely wrote some very terrible HP one shots when I was like...13?
20. Favorite fic you've ever written?
Idk about favorite but I'm proud I finished my bodyguard au the way I wanted to which makes it a fave based on that alone.
leader of the pack might be my personal fave because it's how I initially pictured an idealistic happy ending for the show (post-season 1)
But also I liked writing lots of my fics for different reasons. I really truly hate picking favorites!!
Tagging: I'm late to this and I feel like everyone I know who writes has been tagged already 😅 Please participate if you want to!!

20 Questions for Fic Writers!
Tagged by @suspendingtime :D
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
51 (with more on LJ and ff.net that I hope will perish before anyone finds them 😆)
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
143,311
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Currently just Bridgerton because the heart wants what it wants.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Unsurprisingly all Bridgerton:
Every farthing of the cost shall be paid (but from this night not a kiss or look be lost)
Cream Filling (Explicit)
I am my beloved's (and my beloved is mine) (Explicit)
Ordained in the worship of you (Explicit)
The Aim of Waking is to Dream (Explicit)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yeah, I'm from old school fandom where kudos didn't exist and we just..had conversations in comments about the writing, about the fic, about characterisation. Fic is my offering to fandom and I'm always looking to find community through it. I love love love hearing what people think and nothing is quite as much fun to me as some of the conversations I've been lucky enough to see in my comment threads.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I write a lot of angst. I'm in fandom for the angst! There's nothing quite like exploring the emotional agony of something when the audience already knows the resolution.
Overall, I think it might be this dark Beauty and the Beast (Disney) fic: In the mirror (gen).
For Bridgerton, god, it's a toss up between:
My hope was written on sand (AU where Anthony and Edwina get married);
Sweet and bitter love (Simon/Anthony with internalised homophobia); and
Malebolge (Anthony treats women as playthings and Kate treats herself as disposable for her family.)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably To be young and in love, though my fics aren't usually unhappy (the ones above notwithstanding), just angsty.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Only from troglodytes. I ignore and block them.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Ha, a lot. It varies from sweet and emotional to graphic but it's always written with characters in mind. Sex and emotions, we can have it all!
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I wrote a Gen Kill/SG-1 crossover because Space Marines!! (jazz hands): The Five Stages of Joining the Stargate Program (Gen).
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
No, thankfully. Have had some (unintended?) plagiarism of scene and detail, but that's easily solved by crediting/referencing so as long as that happens I'm happy!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but I have blanket approval for it on my AO3 profile and would be honoured.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, not yet.
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
Every ship I've ever had has felt like the all-time fave 😂
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Ahahah, a Moonlight fic that will definitely never be finished. I'm still working on the Bridgerton WIPs.
16. What are your writing strengths?
My writing will always be true to at least some kernel of the canon characters otherwise what's the point (to me).
I think a lot about what goes into my fic. If something looks clever in my fic, 90% of the time that is by design. I have a good ear for scansion and style, and you'll see that change deliberately across fic. I am apparently good at dirty talk?
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
So. Many. In short, I can only write what I'm interested in writing. I am terrible at plot and fleshing out rich universes. I can lose motivation before I finish writing said plot. I've been told I write dense fic that's not easy reading so I think I'm bad at reading an audience. I think I don't have anything new to say, just new ways to say something you may have read before.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I've used endearments from my cultural background. If I need to use phrases I google for colloquial usage rather than google translate.
One of my absolute favourite fics ever is bilingual Mary Poppins and truly astoundingly good: Promise of the (Purvai) by dhobi ki kutti
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Moonlight - a single season TV show and by god was that fandom a wanky one.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Swollen (I managed to do a lot that I love in this fic: style, emotional depth, play on colour/texture/time, and kink.)
--
Bonus: Favourite fic you haven't written?
all the bright things because it is astoundingly good writing. And also The Thirteen Letters for MCU Steve/Bucky because it redefined love in writing for me. (How long have I loved you? Womb to tomb, sweetheart.)

1, 5 [i can go anywhere I want (just not home)], 25, 37, 41, 47 [any fic you want. I just think it’s a weird question and I want to see where you go with it 🤡]
1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?) Already answered, but I'll be wild and pick another one. I think this fic is a good representation of my writing, simply because it's what I most enjoy writing. I love taking a canon scene and peeling back the layers and then running with that. It's a lot of fun (aaaaaaand the clear jumping off point is really helpful for me and my ridiculous indecisiveness!)
5. What do you wish someone would ask you about i can go anywhere i want (just not home)? Answer it now! My mind is truly blank here?? All I can say is this is an exploration of what I truly think makes the most sense for what we know about Lucy. I wanted to explore the undercover issues outside of her relationship with Tim, because for me it's more about who Lucy is as a person. Her empathy, the way she values her relationships, how in touch she is with herself... I just don't think it meshes with the UC life long-term.
25. What other websites or resources do you use most often when you write? I mean, Google? Oh the things I have googled... OneLook thesaurus is helpful, and I've definitely used Word Hippo a bunch since you mentioned it!
37. Promote one of your own “deep cut” fics (an underrated one, or one that never got as much traction as you think it deserves!). What do you like about it? Oh no, I don't know how to answer this?? I think most of my fics tend to get about the same level of engagement, and to be entirely honest I'm always a little shocked that anyone takes the time to read my stuff! I think I posted this one at arguably the worst time (weekday afternoon ahead of a new episode), but I got some really lovely comments, so it feels a bit wrong to complain about that!
41. Link a fic that made you think, “Wow, I want to write like that.” There are so many, because I truly feel this way after reading almost every fic! I'm endlessly in awe of the talent in this fandom. But I'd like to give a shout out to this fic by @onlymylovesurvive. The way Marie writes literal poetry with her words is just incredible and inspiring - and then you throw in the case they're working and the personal stuff happening and it's just *chef's kiss*!
47. If [insert fic] was a pair of shoes, what kind would it be? Describe the shoes. Uhhhh I guess I'll describe this fic as a pair of fuzzy slippers. The kind with a thick rubber sole that could almost pass for actual shoes. Sturdy on the outside, soft and comforting on the inside.
Thank you!!! 😊

questions for fic writers: 9, 14, 17, 26, 40, 41, 48
9. How do you find new fic to read?
Depends what I'm looking for. For fandoms I already know and have already browsed, I'll check the latest fics posted (most of the time filtering to only see finished works but not always) (sometimes with a rating filter, sometimes not).
If I'm into a new pairing or a new fandom altogether, I'll go with the usual "Ranked by kudos" + "Finished works" combo and browse through the pages.
I also look in my "Bookmarked for Later" list from time to time but some fics there have been waiting for me for a long time now.
14. Are there any tropes you would only read if written by a trusted friend or writer?
Hm. My instinct was to say no only because I already read pretty much everything now, even stuff that I didn't think I would want to approach a while ago. But, all things considered, there are still some tags that I avoid and that I would have to give a chance for some writers I love, I have to admit.
17. What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it?
I don't have anything that comes up to mind. The other day I was thinking about the THIRDS series (of books) and how the MotoGP riders would fit in that universe so maybe that.
26. Would you rather write a fic that had no dialogue or one that was only dialogue?
It's funny because I've kind of already done both? This Coldflash fic from 2019 doesn't exactly have zero dialogue but it comes close to it considering the format. And if we're not too technical, this Mattdrai fic from 2021, using social media formats, is kind of all dialogues (in different forms).
And if I really have to chose, I think no dialogue is easier and even though I love a good dialogue, I'm not sure I could do only that (or altering the rules a little there).
40. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?
I tend (or tended) to be the second type of person with most pieces of media and arts (read: fics, tv shows, movies, books) and it will frustrate me to rewatch or reread something because I already know what's happening next. That said, I think I've changed over the last few years and now I'm able to rewatch things and reread my favorite fics with great pleasure.
41. Link a fic that made you think, "Wow, I want to write like that."
Literally anything ever written by @ladyeggplant. The bro but make it soft series is a forever favorite of mine.
48. What's the last fic you read? Do you recommend it?
The last thing I read was your savage good boy by @yekoc and I 100% recommend it to everyone. So beautifully written. A delicious Cele/Bezz that I had to pause several times just for my brain to go !!! before I could proceed in my reading again.

1, 2, 4 (most recent fic), 17
1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)
Ooo, good question. I think any of my fics are a good starting point, honestly, but I gotta go with probably 恨君不似江楼月 | Killer and Healer. But really, any fic of mine is a good starting point
2. Go to your AO3 “Works” page, to the sidebar with all the filters, and click the drop-down arrow for “Additional Tags.” What are your top 3-5 most used tags? Do you think they accurately represent your writing habits?
Okay, so, my top 5 most used tags are..."Originally Posted on Tumblr", "Hurt/Comfort", "Emotional Hurt/Comfort", "Tumblr Ask Box Fic", and "Angst and Hurt/Comfort". And yes, I say they would accurately represent my writing habits, though not so much the originally posted on tumblr or the tumblr ask box fic because I don't really take prompts anymore. But the other three? Yeah. Yeah, that's very accurate
4. What detail in [insert fic] are you really proud of?
Oo, okay...so my most recent/newest fic was As Long As We Both Shall Live and I think the detail I'm most proud of...I don't know, honestly. Maybe the first hurt/comfort scene when Zhan Junbai takes Yu Tangchun back to his manor and like...cleans his bloody feet/takes care of him in the bath? Maybe?
17. What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it?
There are so many highly specific aus...currently the most recent highly specific au is kind of like an immortal x demon au based off of Chinese Paladin 4, where Jiang Yuelou is an immortal who is part of a sect that is known to hunt demons and Chen Yuzhi is a demon that disguises himself as a human to basically prevent a war from happening again that happened 19 years ago...I have a whole outline written out and once I finish one of my wips, it's the next fic I'm working on because my god, I could not stop thinking about this au for like days. (If you want to know more, feel free to ask me about it, I'll pull up the outline)
Also another au is a K&H Spirealm au (because I'm watching the Spirealm right now and while I might not write this fic the ideas are brewing)

20 questions for fic writers :)
Thank you so much @ulouism for the tag! <33
How many works do you have on ao3? 7 works are currently available to read on my ao3 :)
What is your total ao3 word count? 569,216 words - i’m honestly flabbergasted
What fandoms do you write for? So far only Harry Potter, though I've been interested in some spiderman or stranger things stuff which I might write for soon.
Top 5 fics by kudos? In order: Honey Honey, Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy, the Funny Tricks of Time, Seven Dials, Just in Case.
Do you respond to comments? The majority of them! I try my best to answer every one, or at least one if you've commented on multiple chapters in a row :)
Which of your fics have the angstiest ending? this is hard, all my halloween one shots are very angsty but which is worse? James and Lily dying, Marlene and Dorcas dying, or Mary obliviating herself? I'll leave that up to debate lol
Which of your fics had the happiest ending? I'll go with seven dials, considering that's the only fluffy fic I've actually finished, though goflb might take that spot once its done :))
Do you get hate on fics? I had an incident a couple months ago where I got flooded with some nasty comments, and I've had a couple things in the past. But so many people here came to my defence, it was lovely to see and I can't thank you all enough!
Do you write smut? Not yet... I get awkward... and scared someone I know irl will see it... but you never know...
Do you write crossovers? I have a couple marauder fic wips which take a lot of inspiration from other stories, like the Martian and httyd, but I wouldn't mark them as crossovers when I post them cause they're mainly hp
Has anyone stolen your fics? Not that I know of, hope it stays that way lol
Have you ever had a fic translated? No but i’d be open to any requests if someone did want to :)
Ever co-written a fic? No and not sure if i’d want to, i’m a massive control freak and procrastinator so I think i’d get stressed
What's your all-time favourite ship? I’ve gotta say wolfstar, my loves <33 though I do dabble in drarry and perciver, I don't think anything will top them
What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you will? I don't think I can pick lmao I have so many idea folders and half finished first chapters that I want to write but I can't balance them all. I suppose I'll go with my wolfstar pirate fic That's Life
What are your writing strengths? I think im good with characters and plot, or at least that's what I enjoy doing most and what comes most naturally to me. I waste so much water standing in the shower thinking through things... I'd say im quite a proficient editor too, but idk if that counts
What are your writing weaknesses? I'm gonna say dialogue cause sometimes when I read back over conversations, they don't feel right and I spend ages tweaking it. And can I say procrastination? I struggle so much in starting writing, but once I get into it i’m fine.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language? I don't trust google translate enough to write in another language unless I knew myself it was right, so in most cases i’d find a way around it. I don't mind dialogue in other languages if its for a reason, but if that means I have to translate every other sentence it can get a bit annoying
First fandom you wrote for? A Harry Potter x Percy Jackson fic on Quotev that we won't talk about ...
Favourite fic you've ever written? I have to say I'm most proud of Honey Honey, its the only full length fic ive finished but quality wise i’d say Seven Dials is my favourite
No pressure tags: @arakhnee @pretentiouswreckingball @residentrookie and anyone else who wants to join in :)

2. Go to your AO3 “Works” page, to the sidebar with all the filters, and click the drop-down arrow for “Additional Tags.” What are your top 3-5 most used tags? Do you think they accurately represent your writing habits?
Yay, thanks for the ask!
My top 5 additional tags on ao3 (in descending order): Episode Related, Getting Together, Fluff, Established Relationship, First Kiss
Okay yeah yep, that's very accurate hahahaha! I am not afraid to write Garashir fluff and I truly do love rewriting episodes (or inserting missing scenes into episodes) to give Garak and Julian the opportunity to kiss and get together! <3 <3 <3 I feel like the thesis statement of my oeuvre is that it is ALWAYS the right time for Garashir to get together. Like, they can get together during Past Prologue or post-canon or anytime in between, and the exact conditions to get things started might be different depending on the timeframe, but it will always work out for them! ^_^ Anyway, the most obscure ep I've gotten them together in is s4e21 The Muse. XD
I am honestly shocked that established relationship is in my top 5 tags, because I have significantly more ideas about Garashir getting together scenarios than ones where they're already together, lolll, but I guess I do still write about them already together a lot too!
(For this ask game. Please send me more asks everyone!)

33. If you write chaptered fics, what’s your ideal chapter length to write? Is it different from your ideal chapter length to read?
From the ask game :D
Haven’t written one for a while, but probably about 5-7K, but I usually write to the length the chapter wants. Sometimes 800 words, and on the rare occasion over 8K.
I know long chapters (or one shots more so) are super popular, but I don’t really have time for 6K let alone 12K, or the one shot I saw the other day that I think is 23K. I mean, that’s a novella, man. Loved the premise, but I just don’t have time.
I prefer chapters of a manageable time length. I’m busy, so I actually love a writer than can say a lot under 2.5K, but if I have time, and the writing justifies it 5-6K (about 30 minutes of reading). If I’m totally into a story and it’s well-written, I really enjoy longer chapters, but I need to schedule time, so a lot of those fics are on my to read list, and I don’t always get around to it.
Thanks for the question! The ask box is open. The meme is here!
