tying womanhood to the ability to have babies is exactly the kind of rhetoric that helped the people who overturned roe v wade.
“womanhood is the ability to get pregnant…so why wouldn’t a woman want to have a baby? that’s what she’s there for!”
“the ability to get pregnant is a super power…so why wouldn’t you want to use that power!?”
if you make womanhood about the ability to get pregnant, you aren’t a feminist and are actively helping the pro-lifers.

tw// recreational drug use, emotional self-harm
despite the tw this is actually a positive thing :D
i've struggled with emotional self-harm in the form of seeking out hateful content (transphobia, pro-life, etc) and obsessively binging it. it's genuinely addictive at this point and it's been very difficult to stop. i'm getting better but it's still hard for me if something comes up unexpectedly.
however i'm planning to use lsd for the first time in two days and the external motivator of "i don't want to risk ruining my trip by putting bad things in my brain" is actually working. i was about to search something that would have definitely been bad for me and then i simply thought "this is a bad idea" and i stopped immediately! it wasn't even hard!
honestly this is just making me so hopeful that this won't be a problem i struggle with forever. with practice i'm sure i can reach a point where it's that simple to say no even without an external motivator.
I'm happy you found your first motivation to break this unhealthy cycle, even if that reason is LSD. I hope you have a great trip and that you'll keep working on this! ❤️

honestly, we need to talk more about nonconsensual pregnancy tests in hospitals.
when I went into the hospital because I passed out (it ended up being a type of tachycardia) they wanted to do a chest x-ray on me to make sure my heart was functioning properly. Good, reasonable, I also want to know if my heart is working.
The (male) doctor asked me if I could be pregnant. I said no, I was a virgin. He sent my mom out of the room and asked again. I gave the same answer. Later on, they gave me a urine test which I assumed was for dehydration. Come to find out, it was a pregnancy test because "teenagers lie".
I want to know what would have happened if that test came up positive. Would they have denied my chest x-ray and left me with a less effective test to determine if my heart was working?
It's putting the health of a theoretical fetus over the health of a real, living breathing person who is asking to be treated regardless of whether they're pregnant or not. It reinforces the concept that everyone with a uterus is most useful for fetus production and everything else about them, including their health, is secondary. It reinforces the idea that a fetus is more important than the comfort and safety of people with uteruses. It's rooted in pro-forced-birth ideals and the assertion that everyone who could potentially be pregnant wants to know and cares about fetal safety.

The hypocrisy of pro life at its finest. The late George Carlin's quote fits this perfectly.
"Boy, these conservatives are really something, aren't they? They're all in favor of the unborn. They will do anything for the unborn. But once you're born, you're on your own. Pro-life conservatives are obsessed with the fetus from conception to nine months. After that, they don't want to know about you. They don't want to hear from you. No nothing. No neonatal care, no day care, no head start, no school lunch, no food stamps, no welfare, no nothing. If you're preborn, you're fine; if you're preschool, you're fucked.” - George Carlin

The thing about "pro-life" voters I can't stand (besides the obvious) is that they make for the same type of parents that think that their children (usually daughters but sometimes sons) belong to them. They're the kind of parents that smack their child's ass and claim that they can do whatever they want because they "made it" when their child asks them to stop.

How pro-life propoganda convinced me to be pro-choice while I was still a fundamentalist
So back when I was an evangelical, I really liked to read Christian novels. One author I liked was Francine Rivers. One of her books I read was Atonement Child. It took me until after I became an atheist to realize that this book was pro-life propoganda. I didn't know anything about the book plot before reading it. I wanted to read the book because I liked one of her other books that I had read before this.
Here's the plot: Dynah is a perfect Christian girl with a perfect Christian life. She goes to a perfect Christian college, has a perfect Christian fiance, and has perfect Christian friends and family who love her. She is perfectly beautiful and white and innocent with perfect Christian blonde hair. Perfectly god-fearing because fear of authority figures is a good thing to evangelicals. Oh how blessed.
One night when she's walking from her night job, a stranger jumps out of the shadows and rapes her. Oh no! And oh no she got pergrante!
Does she have any trauma from being a victim of rape? Not really. Does she try to go to the police or at least consider it and dismiss it because the police won't do shit? No! Does her sex-negative upbringing that tells her she's dirty if she has premarital sex affect her? Not a chance!
The rape is not important y'all. It's just a convenient plot device to get her gregnant while still being a perfect Christian and not like those sluts who had it coming. One of the questions that pro-lifers (and a few too many pro-choice folks) love to grapple with is what if stranger rape? Is that a good reason to have an abortion? Let's totally ignore that most people who have abortions already have children and most perpetrators of rape are people the victim knows. The real troubling question at hand is should Dynah have an abortion?
Welp all the so-called pro-life Christians in her life suddenly are demanding that she absolutely must have an abortion. Her school kicks her out because she won't have an abortion. Her fiance breaks up with her. Her friends and family ostracize her. Also it just so turns out that many, many of these so-called pro-life Christians have had secret abortions. This is not an indication of pro-life hypocrisy but actually a sign that none of them were true Scotsmen Christians.
After grappling with the issue for most of the book, she decides she wants to keep the baby. She finds a new guy who wants to be her husband and is way better than the other guy. So in the end god blessed her for choosing not to have an abortion. The End.
My takeaway from the book: wow this woman's choice was very important. Abortion needs to be legal so that good Christians can choose life and show their devotion to god. Another banger from good ol' Francine Rivers asking the hard questions and not spreading any misinformation whatsoever (lmao).
It took until after I became an atheist to have a bit more well-rounded support for bodily autonomy and get a bit more sex-positive. Should you read the book? That's your choice.
Maybe you're not immune to propoganda but I'm built different 😎

The reason you don’t feel comfortable with an abortion is because you know that people are pregnant with living human beings. It isn’t the mother’s body. It isn’t the mother’s choice to kill her child.
Don't put words into my mouth. I am FAR more uncomfortable with the idea of anyone being forced to give birth to a child they don't want to raise than I'll ever be with the concept of getting an abortion

Why I don't take pro life and ALM assholes seriously. They mocks and laughs at local homicide victims.
I had lost a sibling to gun violence and domestic violence that their hollow echos of thoughts and prayers doesn't mean any shit to me after seeing their true nature on local site on social media.

I don’t know why the guy is back in fashion but for those who didn’t know or needed a reminder, Nathan Parsons (The Originals and Roswel) is a republican piece of shit who supports the NRA, is pro-life and has supported the construction of the Wall.
