Can I request Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld (1985) OR, if you don't want to do that version, can you do the version from the DC Nation shorts? I will be happy with either!
Of course I can do that! I decided to draw the DC Nation version because it was easier for me ^^ I don’t know why lmao. Here she is!

I hope you like it :)
Suggestions, tips, and requests are welcome!!! I don't do any NSFW but I'll create for any fandom. Feel free to use this for something if you want. A like, reblog, or follow if you do would be appreciated!

group shot of a team provisionally called “New Young Justice”
featured: Amethyst of Gemworld, Rac Shade and Loma*, M’gann and Megan, Ion/Aya*, Tim Drake, Rose Wilson, and Grace Choi***
*Rac is gender non-conforming in this version, an alien from a species with little gender conformity at all in the body of a human trans woman, and they have a very different, teacher-student, relationship with Loma
**I got into this elsewhere, but Aya is an artificial body for the Green Entity, Ion, who takes a more central more on returning to Oa and seeking alliances with her fellow spectrum entities and their hosts.
***Grace is combined with the canon Eugene Choi here, so she possibly has Amazon ancestry, but mostly draws power from the lightning of Shazam. Can also transform into animals, a bear and a big cat, drawn from Cosmic Creatures of the Garden of Eternity that once did battle with Ultra in the moments when battle was invented.

Made more of the Kirby OCs who are Knuckelves like Knuckle Joe. They are named Amethyst, Ryo, Plume, Thoma, and Maya.

"What a day, huh?"
I finally got around to reading a few Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld comics! Though I was a bit bummed to find out that Child hasn't been featured in one since 2013…
So I tweaked their design a bit just to shove in a dead art trend :D
cleaner version below the cut + rambles
Tumblr media
I used Amy's 2020 design partly because I don't like her YJ look and also I wanted to make this as a sort of aftermath on what happened after her comic.
Her bio-parents finally found, but hating and rejecting her because she used such drastic measures to save their world, Amaya feels horribly alone with her home on Earth being so far away…
So of course a Lord of Chaos would capitalize on that >:) Using Child's characterization from YJ Season 4, they're proper as they console the princess, calculating how they can utilize this grief, and so very clever in twisting the words to sound much less manipulative than they are. (Child in this universe is non-binary, using whatever set of pronouns they want at the time, but that’s neither here nor there)
but yea <3 that's just the bare bones of the idea! i'm not super into Gemworld lore so it might just be nonsense. I didn't want to waste an opportunity having a kid Lord of Order, so that's what you get hehe

It’s wild to me how YJ 2019 and Amethyst 2020 actually made Amethyst more child friendly than the 80s comics, which by all accounts you would assume would’ve been sparkly and glittery and kinda talking down to girls with little actual plot or real themes.
Do you know how often they show Amethyst or her friends killing people in the 80s comics? The horror from the Varn, Opal, and Carnelian’s death scene? The fantasy world politics? One lady being poisoned so her daughter could take the throne, Granch being strangled to death, volume 2 is one giant dark fantasy story.
It’s like they stripped away everything except “magic gem princess” and it’s really disappointing. The 80s comics treated it seriously and yeah volume 2 probably went too far off track, but I much prefer volume 1 and 2 to this watered down version.
The only good change is getting rid of the whole Shazam transformation because ick.

Amaya of House Amethyst, a Princess of Gemworld raised on Earth as Amy Winston. Born of the Lord of Order Pantagones possessing the former Lord Amethyst, Amaya’s immense mystical potential made her a target for the Gemworld warlord Dark Opal and his invisible master, Black Diamond. Hoping to protect their child, Lord and Lady Amethyst swapped Amaya with the human infant Amy, praying she would remain protected on Earth under the fae magic rules of Changelings, until she came of age and claimed her birthright as both Master of the House of Amethyst, and Lord Protectorate of Order to all of Gemworld.
Sadly, the dreams of Amaya’s parents were not to pass. The rise of metahumans and homo magi on Earth had made it a strange and hostile place, and Amy (who Amaya still believed she was) was forced to discover and use her powers long before she was ready to do so. Seeking answers to the changes she was undergoing, Amy sought out Doctor Fate, hoping the hero could tell her if she was an alien, a mutant, a cyborg from the future, or just a typical girl in an atypical situation. Nabu, recognizing the magic of his fellow Lord, knew she was none of these things, but also not what her birth parents believed her to be.
Nabu knew all too well that often that which is born of Order is not more ordered, more controlled, but less; Amaya was no Lord of Order, but of Chaos. She was The Child and her birthright was not Gemworld, but The Flaw alive within it.
Undeterred by these revelations, Amaya had a goal now: return to Gemworld, find Amy, and find The Flaw before Dark Opal could awakened it. Luckily for him, Black Diamond was already on Earth, seeding host bodies to follow Amaya back home...

Need to find time to actually read the original Amethyst runs, but I’d love a series based on the older comics. Out to write one, I’m not too picky.
