You normally loved a man with a beard, but with Joe, it was probably the worst thing that could adorn his face.
"Joe, don't you think you should shave your beard before the game on Sunday?" you asked in hopes that he would oblige.
"Nah, I think it's cool," he stated, continuing the work he did on his computer.
You rolled your eyes. Your goal before the end of the week was to get him to shave that monstrosity off.
You and Joe continued throughout your no-football day activities. As you both were getting ready for bed, you pushed Joe's charged razor toward him. "But babe, I like it," he whined as he scooted the razor back to its original spot.
"Joe you have GOT to get rid of that thing. It's giving pre-pubescent boy," you laughed. He looked slightly offended.
"Y/n, I'm not getting rid of it," he said with a more stern tone.
"Joe, I didn't mean to upset you," you stated, setting your toothbrush down.
"I know, but I'm just trying to look more grown," he said, embarrassment showing in his eyes.
He left for the bed, you soon followed after. The bedside lamp illuminated his skin, or at least what skin wasn't covered by hair.
"Baby, why are you trying to look more grown?" you asked, grabbing his arm and turning to face him.
"Cause everyone else looks so grown and big and tough and I've got a baby face," he replied, still with a little sadness in his eyes.
"Who do you mean by everyone else?" you questioned, scooting closer to lay a kiss on his forehead.
"Everyone in the NFL. I look like a child compared to them," he pouted, looking down to meet your eyes.
"Joe, I don't think you realize how many people swoon over you on the daily. You don't have to look grown to be powerful. Hell, look at all your stats. You did all that without this beard look you're trying out," you said to him, seeing a small proud smile spread across his lips."
"AND, you look older than Ja'marr by a few years. I mean, he still looks like a baby. Look at how goofy he looks with facial hair," that earned a chuckle out of Joe. "Babe, it's your face and I don't want to force or gaslight you into shaving it, but I say you're more powerful without it," you said, giving his temple a small kiss.
"You know, you're right babe. It's not quite a full swing football season look. Maybe I'll give it a shot over the summer," he said, placing a kiss on your forehead.
"You are so handsome and oh so manly no matter what you're wearing on your face or body. I love you Joseph. I seriously can't get enough of you," you snuggled into his chest.
"I love you too babe, thanks for telling me the truth about my pre-pubescent beard. I can always rely on you to tell me how it is. I love you, y/n. The beard will go first thing in the morning," Joe says, pulling you in to a tight hug, making sure to trap you under his chin and tickle your face with his beard.

"oh my god he's wearing leopard print with plaid" AND HE MAKES IT WORK. yes if someone just told me with no context or reference pics whatsoever that this guy pairs leopard print with plaid, i too would be like what the fuck lol that's terrible. BUT NOW THAT I’VE ACTUALLY SEEN IT WITH MY OWN EYES I’M A CHANGED WOMAN. and this is how he works it: neither pattern is too much. the leopard print is lightly sprinkled on the top of his vest (idk why he wears it it doesn’t seem to serve any practical purpose but it looks good so who cares), and the plaid is literally just on the sleeves. there isn’t a lot of contrast between the black and the purple squares so it’s easy on the eyes. and under the plaid and the vest he’s wearing a normal black tee with a little graphic on it, and again it’s not too much it’s just a little thing. his top half definitely catches the eye but it’s not terribly busy. i love it! and he loves the colour purple (his summer, autumn, and winter default outfits all have him wearing purple in some form and he looks great in them!) LET HIM WEAR PURPLE LET HIM BE HAPPY.
and he balances it out with how simple his lower half is in comparison to the top half! just a normal pair of dark blue jeans and grey sneakers. because he KNOWS that his top half has quite a fair bit of stuff going on, so for balance he keeps the bottom half simple HE KNOWS WHAT HE’S DOING HE IS CANONICALLY CALLED A FASHIONISTA FOR A REASON, AND IN AN INTRA-FANDOM FASHION TOURNAMENT I HELD HE LITERALLY RANKS 6 OUT OF 24 CHARACTERS (AKA IN THE TOP QUARTER, ALBEIT THE BOTTOM OF THE TOP QUARTER BUT STILL) WITH AN AVERAGE OF 81.7 VOTES, and his best outfit (not this outfit) ranked no. 4 OVERALL with 238 votes to its name (you can check the stats in this post https://www.tumblr.com/a3outfitstournament/722364282034110464/part-2-pairings?source=share) so there is substance to his canonical status as a stylish fashionista!! do not doubt or disparage the plaid + leopard print combo!! besides his canon fursona (long story short all 24 main characters were assigned a fursona as part of an april’s fools prank thing) is a leopard so let him express his furry self through his wise and based fashion choices!!
also he’s literally an anime guy. and not just that, a CANONICALLY STATED HANDSOME ANIME GUY. as in, multiple people in-universe have commented that he is good looking and stylish. sure all anime boys can look pretty but he is acknowledged IN-UNIVERSE to be attractive so even if he wore a potato sack he’d still be my specialest guy <3

Summary: you and tech have a quiet rainy morning in!
Warnings: tooth rotting fluff. That’s literally it. I do also fully steal a line from Wikipedia for a tech quote because the fact just like had tech vibes! So that long line about rain and science is in fact from the internet and not my brain sorry guys.
A/N: this is both purely for @starboytech and also wildly self indulgent. I need a good summer storm nap STAT. Also I recommend listening to “Sunday morning” by maroon 5 becausE THAT is the vibe for this!!! Hope you love thank you for the ask my beloved!🫶
It’s an abnormally quiet day on Ord Mantell. It’s raining, for one, so the usually bustling streets and loud vendors have retreated to their hideaways and covered spaces. It’s also between missions for the batch, leaving you and Tech alone for the day—a luxury you’re not soon to forget.
You’ve spent the morning doing a whole lot of nothing, and it’s been fantastic. You’ve got the day off from work, so the majority of the day consisted of takeout and trashy holoflics, with a documentary or two thrown in. You had just finished a documentary on the recent conflict in Mon Cala, and we’re in desperate need of snacks and tea. Sneaking up and out of bed, careful to not disturb him, you left your bedroom and went into the small kitchen and living space attached to your room. The apartment was small, but sized well enough that it had space for Tech and his family whenever they needed a place to eat a warm meal. You had always admired that about him, his willingness to care in the subtle ways.
As your kettle boils, you take the moment of distraction he has when he dives into something on his datapad to really take him in. He’s almost majestic in this light, he’s illuminated and shadowed, shirtless in your bed filled with fluffy blankets and pillows. It takes everything in you not to forgo the tea entirely and just dive into bed face first and run your hand through the curls on his head, but the kettle dings before you can put your plan into action.
When you come back into your room from the kitchen of your apartment, he’s tapping away at something on his datapad, his face lit up blue against the dark gray the storm has cast across your walls. You’re holding two steaming mugs of tea, carefully placing one next to him and coming to kiss the side of his face, just above the strap of his goggles.
“Do you know why humans sleep better on days with heavy rainfall?” He murmurs, leaning his head into your lips without glancing away from whatever has taken his interest on the screen. You shake your head no and choose to shuffle into bed with him, awkwardly clambering over his legs to sit yourself between them. You’re precariously balancing the mug of tea and trying not to spill on your bed or his datapad, and Tech maneuvers you with ease, looping his arms around you and settling the datapad across your lap. “Rainy days are accompanied by soothing sounds of raindrops falling and gentle thunder rumbling in the distance. These ambient sounds have a relaxing effect on our minds, promoting a state of tranquility and lulling us into sleep.”
“You’re so smart,” you smile, leaning back into his chest. You forget how muscular he really is sometimes, and you relish the feeling of his biceps wrapping around you as you settle against him.
“You’re teasing me?”
“Nah, just stating the truth.”
“Well, then I suppose that is true.” You snort at the ease of his response, how matter of fact he states it, but his voice coming closer to your ear brings you out of the moment, “it would also be true to say that you are exceptionally beautiful.”
“Now you’re just flattering me.”
“Perhaps… is it working?”
You shimmied out of his arms just a bit, enough to look up at him from his side. Reaching forward and pressing a kiss to the bottom of his jaw, you smiled. “You could say that.”
The datapad was now fully discarded, as if he was emboldened by your words, and Tech slowly moved to place two fingers under your chin, angling you up towards his face. He was so perfect from this angle, all his sharp edges and soft curves blurred against the fuzzy spatter of raindrops echoing into the room. You could stay like this forever, leaning up into him, breathing him in. Instead he pulled you just a bit closer before murmuring, “Then I shall continue to do so.”
His lips were on you slow and gently, but they carried with them a languid sort of passion that made sense on a day like today. You and Tech were not unfamiliar to chaste kisses or moments of fast passion, but a day like today was rare. There was no need to steal touches or breaths, Tech could be greedy. And he was. He moved against easily and slowly, with a confidence he had learned over your months together. There was still the breath of hesitation when his hands ghosted over your torso, resting just above your hips on the small of your back, but it was replaced quickly with decision as you looped your hands around his neck, playing with the little curls that spilled lower than the rest.
You forgot he was a soldier when you kissed him, and for a half second you wondered if he forgot who you really were, forgot you used to be a smuggler, forgot you served cheap beer at Cid’s. For just a moment, you can just be two lovers, two people brought together, where nothing matters beside each other.
The kiss is sweet and over sooner than you’d like, but Tech is quick to pull you up onto his lap and wrap his arms around you, one hand coming firmly up to the back of your head. He’s so much bigger than you, you fit easily against his body like a puzzle piece. You stay like this for more than a few breaths, your chests rising and falling together, the warmth of his body and the lull of the rain threatening to send you to a very deep mid afternoon nap. “I find myself missing this perhaps most of all when I’m on a mission.” He mumbles against your skin, nuzzling into your neck and pressing a warm kiss against the exposed skin. It makes you shiver a bit, and he pulls back from the embrace to smile at you, a pink blush dusting his cheeks.
“There’s probably some biological reason for that.” You grin, moving to curl your body against his and breath again, slipping back into that easy dreamlike trance you had just broken out of. This time, sleep is heavy on your eyelids, and you can sense it on Tech too.
You’re nearly asleep when he responds, quiet and breathy, moments from sleep himself. “Perhaps there are some things too good for even science to explain.”

Only 2 short shippy prompts all month! All 4 modern girls got a couple spotlights, various family cameos and backstories, a future prompt as is tradition, Zaine had a few posts, a few NPC-only scenes, a LOT of Endwalker, and even Ancient Icarus got a story, tying into 2021's "Destruct" prompt and how/why the siblings' souls have been connected through time and reincarnations.
A few of these are alternate takes on scenes I've touched on before, but it's interesting what a new prompt at a different time can get one to say, how we change as writers in what we focus on and how we say it.
This comes in roughly 300 words shorter than last year, at 18,493. The week of the 18-22 I had off work for my birthday, and that had the most 1k+ prompts, with a word count nearly double the other 3 full weeks. While the longer prompts are good, I'm really happy with how so many of the short ones turned out!
I was again trying to be realistic about my time, energy, not pushing free write days...and also working on an original writing project on the side, so I actually did do more writing over the month, just not FFXIV related!
(Also why some of my responses were in just under the wire...)
But this was a good break and exercise from that other writing, and let me try a few new things.
And comparing to earlier years--especially 2017 and 2018 when I was getting back onto the writing horse and feeling out my OCs--I feel like my growth as a writer, especially to be more succinct yet still evocative when needed, is evident. I've gotten a lot of practice in over time, and this challenge is one of the things that helped me get to where I can write an original story on top of my fanfic!

I didn't look at the totals until the end; I only checked some of the shorter ones during the challenge to see if they hit my personal "500+ words" cut off for adding a Read More to the posts.
"Grave" honestly could have been a lot shorter; I started the plot too early, and much as I like Zaine making one last visit to his childhood Nana, for the purposes of the challenge, I could have just focused on going to the lichyard to save myself time and energy, and wrote about the visit on my own another time. On the other hand, it's done now!
Not sure which is a favorite; there's a lot I like.
As usual, these will be revised at...some point (some more than others, probably) and added to Ao3, in my various series and threads.

meet rowan (pricey shots and brick wolls au!)
rowan price, niece of nhl goaltender carey price, was born on october 24th, 1998 to carey price's older brother noah price (oc) and his wife of the time, anna price.
pre-rowan notes:
noah price is the older brother of carey price by ten years, making him 46 years old at the start of this au. he was born in vancouver, b.c., and began playing hockey since he could walk. he loved all positions, but he usually played forward. there were a few years where he had to play defense, and he was okay at it. because of that, he missed some of his developmental years, and wasn't good enough to be a professional hockey player (he was good at forward, he could play defense, but he didn't have anything he excelled that)
noah tried to be very present in his siblings' lives because he was much older than them and he was scared to miss out on their lives. carey looked up to him a lot growing up.
noah and anna met in high school, married soon after, and had rowan at around 21/22. she has three little brothers: jadon (2 years younger than her), harley (4 years younger than her), and riley (8 years younger than her).

rowan moved to montreal when she was really young, when her uncle began playing for montreal, because her dad decided to follow him there. they went back to b.c. for the summers, but she went to school in montreal and can speak french fluently.
she gets along very well with her uncle carey, he's about 11 years older than her. she grew up shooting pucks against him, which they both say made them better players (carey says she's an excellent shooter, and rowan says he's the best goalie)
she grew up playing center, and can play wing, but prefers center (she likes faceoffs). rowan became well known for being carey price's niece when she was around 10 years old. everyone thought she was going to be the next best goalie, until they realized she played center, which threw them for a loop.
but then her stats were released, and media began reporting the next greatest female hockey player. she was being compared to hayley wickenheiser, marie-philip poulin - even players like ovi, with the way her shot and quick release was. she kept her socials private (still has those accounts) and made specific public accounts to share with the public.
she went viral on tiktok, becoming a sort of influencer on instagram/tiktok by the time she was 20/21.
at 19 years old, she was invited to team canada's hockey camp for the pyeongchang 2018 winter olympics and made the roster as the youngest player on the team. she scored 8 goals in total, one hat-trick, and had four assists. she ended the olympics having the most points in the tournament, but team canada fell short to the u.s. in the finals.
after finishing high school, she began studying at uoft, playing for their women's hockey team. she was also playing professionally for the toronto furies for two years while studying because it was the only thing she could do. after the cwhl failed, when she was 20, she ended up signing a contract with the toronto six. she continued her studies at uoft and played for the varsity blues as well.
some said it was a lot of hockey, but rowan was scared to drop any of it - just in case women's hockey stopped being a thing one day.
she called her uncle a lot during that time, talking about her fears for her future in hockey. she put aside so many things to focus on hockey, and she wasn't even sure she would be able to play professionally forever.
the first year that joseph played for the toronto marlies, rowan was invited (along with some other players of the toronto six) to help with drills and practice. they had fun, going against each other and trying to outplay the other. after the practice session, she went to joe and was like "something about your play is so familiar, but i can't place it." and joe laughs, going, "well i modeled a lot of my play after carey price - everyone's seen him play." and rowan stares at him and just smiles bcz he has no idea how often she's seen carey price play.
and their story goes from there!
rowan was the first free agent to sign with pwhl toronto (before the draft). she was so excited that she was able to stay in the city that had recently become a home to her. and she's been going off ever since the season started.
she's pretty known, even outside of hockey (queen) - and joseph supports her all the time.
general au notes:
jadon, harley, and riley all play hockey, but none of them except riley are interested in going pro. jadon's actually an nba player for the new york knicks, and harley's in university for mechanical engineering (wants to work in f1). riley plays defense and he's 17 right now, entering his draft year this year. he's projected to go high in the draft.
rowan's best known for her clutch/pricey shots, which she almost never misses. she has a very good eye and is good at controlling the puck. she can get goals at the most needed moments - and even if it looks like it's complicated/coming at a pricey time, she's great at going through with it
rowan and joe practice against each other all the time, and riley joins them occasionally too

How did it take me until April 3, 2024 to realize that Lemony Snicket is absolutely a trans woman and someone needs to get her some E, stat?
- Lemony is always, always, always hiding her face. Well... okay they cut it from Netflix, but in the books and movie, the most iconic thing about Lemony is that in every photograph, she's managed to hide her face. And yes, allegedly that's to hide her identity, but like... Is it? Or is that an excuse and really Lemony just does not like her face because it's too masculine? God knows most pre-transition folks hate being photographed
- Have you seen the way she talks about Beatrice? Have you read that letter from The Beatrice Letters? "Summer without you is as cold as winter. Winter without you is even colder," "I cherished, you perished, the world's been nightmarished," "When we first met, you were pretty and I was lonely. Now I am pretty lonely." Straight men do not write about women like that. Lesbians do. Especially that letter. Do you think that a straight man wrote "I will love you if I never see you again, and I will love you if I see you next Tuesday" or "I will love you until the chances of us running into one another slip from skim to zero, and until your face is fogged by distant memory" or "I will love you if you don’t marry me. I will love you if you marry someone else – your co-star, perhaps, or Y., or even O., or anyone Z. through A., even R. although sadly I believe it will be quite some time before two women can be allowed to marry?" Absolutely not. Those are obviously the words of a lesbian.
- Pretty much everyone important in Lemony's life is a woman. All of the people closest to him: Beatrice, Kit, R, Moxie, and Ellington. Sure, he does interact with other people, but those are the 5 closest relationships indicated by the text. Obviously you can be a man with all female friends, but how many times has a "man" always gotten along better with women and ended up not being a man.
- The audiobooks are (mostly) read by Tim Curry, and we all know he plays a pretty famous transsexual
- Lemony strikes me as very self-sabotaging. Now, this is my own opinion. One could believe that all of the mess that Lemony is in is purely VFD's fault. Maybe VFD forced her to take the blame for Olaf's crimes and generally end up buried so deep in accusations that she had to fake her own death and go on the lam. However, I can see an absolutely self-hating Lemony who volunteered to take on the role that she did. Who chose to be the fall guy. And why would she hate herself so much? Dysphoria. A deeply dysphoric and closeted woman who figures that since she isn't happy with herself, she might as well be the one to have her life ruined by the schism. That way all the actually happy and good people don't need to have their potential ruined.
- Similarly, Lemony never actually jumps in to save the Baudelaires, merely writing about them from afar. She is, to put it bluntly, a coward. She tells herself she's doing something to help them, but won't intervene in the way they really need. Why not? Because she's so deep in self-loathing! Again, that could just be because of her failures in life, but like... What if she also hates herself because of repressed dysphoria?
- Lemony is just generally really, really, really, really sad. And look, I know I'm aromantic as hell, but do we really think that's *just* because she lost the love of his life? Or do we think maybe something else is making her that gloomy?
- Look I just really want Lemony to have a way to be happy. And there's no bringing Beatrice back. But. HRT? Sure. I bet there's HRT in the snicketverse. Why not? I take the reading that Beatrice and Bertrand had Violet at like 20, which makes Lemony only like 35. He's 35, and yet she's completely given up on life. She is just a shelll of a person. She doesn't actually interact with anyone and spends all her time researching terrible things that happen. She's too young to be resigned to misery. I want Lemony to have a way to be reborn and find some form of happiness again. Thus, I would like to blame some of her misery on living as a man, and propose that transition could save her.
- Again. Lemony hates pictures and doesn't like to show her face. Give her some FFS! Stat!
- Come on. Beatrice and Lemony are an iconic couple. You cannot tell me that if given the choice, you want them to be M/F when they could be F/F

I cleaned it up some (since the original version seemed to be held together tenuously at best, with duck tape and dreams) and I'm happy to say that I'm releasing it at long last as a F2U / PWYW resource for Jcink sites!

Whenever you can, could you please write something with Kevin and baby Luca, we have a lot of Timo and Lio as a baby and every time its so precious, I would kill for some Kevin and baby Luca 🥹
The wake boarding boat driven by Alex begins to motor forward. Kevin breathes in deep then focuses his energy into staying upright as the machine rolls forward. The last few summers, he has gotten pretty good. But this summer, Luca is here. Although his 5 month old will never, ever remember this, it matters to Kevin that his son sees him succeeding. It is what drives Kevin on the ice now too.
Kevin is able to maintain his upright posture for significantly longer this round. So long that Alex thinks that is enough of that and purposefully gets Kevin to fall into the water. Kevin yowls as he comes up out of the water, screaming German profanity at Alex as he circles back around to grab Kevin.
“You were doing too good! I had to!” Alex calls with a devilish smile. “You wanna go again?”
“No. I need a break. My thighs are shaking like pre-season.” Kevin jokes.
He grabs the ladder, moving up it soaking wet. Sam hands him his towel, then watches as he works the soft fabric over his hairy legs. Her eyes focus in on where his board shorts have slid up his muscular thighs. They bunch up high, hinting at what Sam wants to touch beneath. If she’s honest, she wants that back in her mouth like it was this morning. She bites her lip then looks away as memories of their morning sex flood her mind.
“I saw that.” Kevin murmurs with a chuckle. Sam shrugs.
Her husband is hot, in peak off-season condition, can’t blame her for being so damn thirsty.
“Look at this sleepy boy.” Kevin murmurs once he is mostly dry. He sits down next to his wife. Luca is resting with his cheek between her breasts, little mouth puffing in soft breaths as his eyes close. Luca loves everything about the boat except the life jacket he has to wear. But once the motor starts trolling through the water, he instantly falls asleep. Kevin carefully scoops Luca out of his mom’s arms, then settles him against his chest. His lips fasten to the top of his head, then he rubs Luca’s small back over his sun protectant shirt. They are under the canopy, and he is slathered in sunscreen, but they can never be too careful with their whole world.
“Kev, want a beer?” Alex asks.
“I’m good.” Sam is still breastfeeding and he wants to be supportive of her in that journey.
The boat patters around the familiar lake Alex and Felicia live on for the next hour. They talk about the massive houses they see. They discuss the upcoming season and how Kevin is feeling going into it. Luca sleeps on Kevin’s chest the whole time. He grips at his dad’s bicep with pudgy fingers, heavy sighing every so often. Kevin’s fingers trail along his back too, dropping kisses to his hair whenever he feels like it. He knows he has to soak up every moment with Luca right now. Soon, the season will start and keep them apart for long stretches. Luca is about to hit so many developmental milestones in the next year. It makes Kevin sad to know he will likely miss some.
When Luca wakes up, Kevin greets him in excited Swiss German. Luca squeals, a huge smile coming out on his chubby cheeks. He kicks his legs wildly, then giggles when Kevin leans down to blow a raspberry on his belly. The adults all laugh at the excitement that bubbles from the baby.
“Woooow!” Kevin suddenly startles, getting a whiff of the bomb their son dropped during his nap. “We need a diaper stat, mama.” Kevin laughs. Sam hands him that and a pack of wipes
“Isn’t that so much better” Kevin murmurs after he is done. He kisses Luca’s cheek, handing him to Sam for a moment. He ties the old diaper up in a disposable, plastic bag from Target, not wanting that stench to radiate over the boat.
“You guys cool if we stop and swim for a bit?” Alex asks. “I’m getting hot.”
They all agree. Alex and the kids jump into the water. Sam and Kevin sit on the swimming platform with Luca while Felicia stays at the front of the boat to read her book. Kevin puts Luca’s feet in the water. He kicks at it, then leans forward, trying to figure out how to play patty cake with the waves. Kevin holds Luca’s balance, and his wrists, then shows him how to pat the water. Droplets his Luca’s face and he startles then begins to cry.
“Oh no!” Kevin exclaims. He turns Luca around to look at him. “You’re okay, baby. I’m here. Won’t let nothing happen to ya.” He puckers his lips, then smiles as he settles his son back between his legs to try again with the water. This time, Luca leans forward and pats at the water himself, like he knows exactly what to do.
“You were made to be a daddy.” Sam compliments Kevin. “You’re so good with him.”
“Most important job I’ll ever have.” He murmurs. Sam leans forward. Kevin turns his face to capture her lips greedily.
“Can Luca come play with us?” Sawyer asks, kicking his feet a bit so he can lean on the swim platform.
“He’s too little.” Sam says. “Maybe next summer!” Serena sighs.
“What can he do?”
“Not much, kiddo. He is a baby. You were pretty useless too at this age.” Alex reminds his impatient daughter.
“Uncle Kev, can we swim together?” Serena asks, patting his knee from her spot in the water. Sam nods to Kevin and takes Luca from him. Kevin dives into the lake, then spends the next fifteen minutes picking Serena up and throwing her farther into the water.
Sam smiles then feels the all too bittersweet longing for time to quicken and slow at the same time.

A&E visit - read "ER visit". put this one in because up until this year kiddo had found herself in a&e at least once every year. this year? no, husband had a weird heart thing that resolved itself (??? bodies.) and i fucked my wrist by falling over while running with kiddo on her bike, to the point where i needed it x-rayed (it was fine)
appearance change - fucked around with my hair a little, cut it fairly short over the summer, braided it a bit, currently growing it out
redecorated - god so many things. i re-organised the bathroom to be somewhat tidier (and easier to clean!) and also bought a snake plant (she's doing lovely). we finally put up the border in kiddo's room. (she's 5. we bought it 7 years ago. 2016.) and then also bought and put together a bedside table and reading lamp for her. we hung curtain rails and put new blackout curtains in her room (grey) and ours (beautiful bottle green). decluttered half the kitchen and the sides are clean??? and staying tidy??? and then i had a december meltdown and we put together a little bookshelf upstairs to hold puzzles and two giant ones downstairs, ditching the sideboard via facebook marketplace and finally decluttering the living room. we have an ikea trip planned for tomorrow to get a million baskets to organise said bookshelves. also we reorganised the cupboard under the stairs and got a new shelf thing in there, made possible by the clearout i did earlier in the year. and i framed and hung kiddo's amazing penguin on the wall. phew.
new favourite foods - discovered 3 new takeaways that do incredible things + fries. very dangerous. one is colombian street food (loaded sweetcorn dirty fries, tostones), one is straight up fried chicken (spicy fries with hot sauce, cheese sauce and crispy onions), one is asian fusion (chili brisket noodles or hoisin crispy duck fries. plus gyoza). also husband discovered rasperry frangipane tarts at the shop and they are the perfect sweet and sharp deliciousness
happy news - new nephew! the recipient of The Baby Blanket, he is three months old now and the cuddliest delight
good surprise - surprise flowers from husband and kiddo. surprise birthday wishes (and gifts?!) <333 and in reverse I also snuck a needle minder on to husband's cross stitch and pulled together a couple of little surprises for kiddo. i think we're going to do an easter egg scavenger hunt this year.
self knowledge - no big revelations this year, thank fuck (and uhh sorry to those few of you that i might have nudged into revelations of your own.) I DID discover a couple new ways to get a brain reset when needed though
new routines - bread making, skincare, trying to be more organised about cleaning the house, got a little library routine with the kiddo, got interdental brushes back into the teeth routine, kiddo has her own bedtime routine by herself
apologised for a fuck up - yeah i had a couple of these, including one i just. ignored. for a month or so. not proud of that. glad i cleared the air
caught covid - for the first time! kiddo's final gift out of pre-school
got dressed up - kiddo came out with us for dinner on my birthday, that was a lot of fun, glad she's old enough to do this now! couple of other dinners, christmas etc. nothing big. waiting for the day she and i can wear matching dresses to a wedding
new skills - bread making, various knitting techniques (flat, in the round, intarsia, some cabling, pattern drafting, various increases and decreases, colour changing etc), but also: french and dutch braids (mostly on the kiddo, growing my hair out a little more for me) and photoshop giffing just about
survived a bad decision - not sure i have much specific to point to for this one. i fucked up a couple of times and recovered in a couple of ways. i did also figure out how to fix a complete brain meltdown so that helped a lot.
cried - yeah, a bunch of times actually. some fic that destroyed me. some complete emotional and physical exhaustion. and then the time my bastard husband (affectionate) made me sit through "slipping through my fingers" from the mamma mia soundtrack. a song that made me emotional before i had a kid and now d e s t r o y s me. but we were listening to the soundtrack in the car and he didn't skip it so i just sat there in floods of tears until it was over. cathartic
misc favourites - new fandom in Rebel Kings MC <333 and all that goes with that: new characters, new ships, fic that looks into my soul, you know, the usual.
being brave (blank) - left two blank, have decided one of these gets to be filled for being brave - spotted something at work that's ethically and legally dodgy, so had to speak up and get it agreed that we would remove something from a couple of systems so we're not violating anything. I think i railroaded everyone into just agreeing with me by turning up well-informed and determined? I had to re-explain it again recently, but at least people seem inclined to agree.
new friendship - um. this one is hilarious in retrospect? I have made several very lovely tumblr friendships this year but i don't think i initiated a single one? beyond commenting occasionally on posts, I think all of you have messaged me first so. thank you <3. and if you've been in my DMs this absolutely includes you fyi. I also managed to make friends with a couple of different parents at kiddo's school so that's good! not close friends, but at least someone i can talk to at the inevitable events.
(and then there's you, who i didn't anticpate at all <333)
bad recipe - actually only one on my list this year? I tried to make potato rosti and it was just ??? burnt and also raw??? so unappealing i never even tried a redo
new craft - well. knitting. not much else to say here!
other thoughts - the fact that i don't have any new tech says something about the brain space I DIDN'T have this year. badly need to upgrade my desktop but i can't face the research right now. my kindle battery is also dying a death but then i have to think about non-amazon alternatives and blah.
don't know if this should get its own square, but i got to meet another discord friend this year and take her for a walk around York city walls, so that was an unexpected delight.
over all it was a much more productive year than i expected, and it's nice to think about the progress i made, especially when a lot of things still suck in a lot of ways and are hard to deal with. trying to carry that energy into 2024 and maybe we can also fix some of the harder things too

The Princess of Wales’ Stats - Third Quarter
In the third three months of 2023, the Princess of Wales completed 24 engagements, averaging around 8 engagements a month. While her overall work rate still appears to be higher than it was pre-coronation, her summer break meant she only undertook 7 engagements in July and 0 in August. She also appeared in two released photos, videos, or statements, and was spotted three times - twice in August and once in September. While none of these months have been her “busiest”, September was her busiest September without a tour.
Of her now 29 patronages, she has visited or completed work for 6, totalling 11 engagements in total. In July, Catherine completed three engagements on behalf of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and on behalf of the Lawn Tennis Association. In September, five of Catherine’s seven patronage related engagements were for the Royal Foundation, while she also completed one apiece for the Rugby Football Union, the Forward Trust, and Fleet Air Arm.
Of her 23 engagements, 13 have been solo while another 8 were when she was accompanied by her husband, the Prince of Wales. Two engagements took place with the wider Wales Family, while one took place with a range British royals present.
All of her engagements - bar one (her Rugby World Cup appearance in France - have taken place in the UK, in England (19), Wales (3) and Scotland (1). More specifically, 6 of her engagements took place in Windsor, while 4 took place in London. I already have them built but I am no expert and feel there could probably be improvement 🤔

starting off with winter bruno he wants to be a far save armor which is a highly competitive role. i don't recommend taking him into aether raids but he's very usable in arena.
armored floe provides a res based damage increase and the crucial unpiercable damage reduction.
kestrel stance 3 provides the -1 special cd per attack on enemy per hit effect. if you have guard support you can also run atk/spd unity which turns stat debuffs into buffs.
savvy fighter 4 provides the full null follow up effect assuming he wins a speed check (i believe it's if his speed is greater than foes speed -10) and also provides damage reduction. he does not want to run any other fighter skill because the effects of something like special fighter already exist on arcane caliburnus.
you can inherit savvy fighter 4 and kestrel stance 3 from fallen anakos at the same time by getting savvy fighter 3 from the valentines lucina combat manual in the divine codes 4.
atk/spd far save helps him further speed stack while he far saves. atk/spd far save and armored floe can be inherited at the same time from brave corrin.
the squad ace BS seal (acquired from doing squad assaults) grants a visible +3 atk/spd but also +5 hp which increases his bulk. he isn't tied to this deal though and can run atk/spd form or mystic boost 3.
this build only requires two units to be foddered (and a combat manual) making it very efficient.
as for spring bruno ...
i had a Hard time finding something for him to do. he has an extremely awkward stat spread with a very high defense stat and nothing to do with it. as a staff unit it's not like he can deal damage with bonfire and with dazzling staff 3 in base kit it's not like he's taking hits very often.
this build is a more supportive role and tries to get him to speed stack since there isn't any point in stacking other stats.
first is seaside parasol+ which is available on summer l'arachel who is currently running on the 7th anniversary special focus 1 banner. this is the best inheritable staff as there isn't any sort of arcane staff and should be refined with the wrathful staff effect. it inflicts the guard status on nearest enemies within 5 spaces, grants atk/spd +5 in combat, and debuffs foe's res in combat based on four times the amount of visible debuffs on the foe.
return+ is the preferred staff assist due to its ability to act like reposition which is generally the most versatile movement assist. you can also use ascended elincia's rescue+ instead since this build requires you to fodder an ascended elincia anyways.
return+ can be inherited from a sara combat manual from divine codes 3
lights restraint is arguably the best offensive staff special and it provides more guard support by inflicting the guard status on foe and foes within 2 spaces after combat. it's also only 2 cd.
C duel cavalry allows spring bruno to score /okay/ in arena. not great by any means but if you want to use ur faves in arena... even if you're not using him in arena +5 hp and +2 to all stats is still pretty nice. unfortunately C duel cavalry is only available on groom saul who is not in the standard pool of units. another option for an a slot skill since groom saul is limited is atk/spd catch 4 which is inheritable from quite a few units in the divine codes
the cheapest way to get atk/spd catch 4 from the divine codes is the summer dimitri combat manual from divine codes 4
dazzling shift would be better as dazzling far trace however that is only available on halloween flayn and almost feels like a waste... dazzling shift can be inherited from ascended elincia at the same time as lights restraint and the pre requisite fodder is already in his kit. it is simply a tier 4 version of dazzling staff in tier 4 skills are required to score in arena.
inf. speed tactic allowed spring bruno to be even more supportive to his allies beyond inflicting guard. inf. speed tactic provides both spd+6 and full null follow up to infantry allies (assuming the amount of infantry allies on the team is 2 or less). other options for c slot skills include any joint drive skill (preferably joint drive speed)
inf. speed tactic can be inherited from the brave chrom combat manual in divine codes 4.
the blade session seal is simply the only way he can hope to acquire enough speed to double enemies.
