In 1709, a group of 48 women in the colonies sent a petition to Queen Anne, requesting that their husbands and kinfolk who had been detained by the authorities for piracy receive a royal pardon. The documents are titled “Petition of Wives and Relations of Pirats and Buckaneers of Madagascar and Elsewhere in the East and West Indies to H.M. Anne 1709.”
Among this group of women was Sarah Kidd, who signed the petition as Sarah Rousby as she was remarried by this time. This was the same year she had her third son and named him William. 8 years after Captain William Kidd’s execution, Sarah never forgot her first love and that he was innocent. She continued to honor him and his memory, and fought to help prevent other sailors from meeting the same fate as him.

At what point is Mary going to be casually leaving a merry widow brunch and see a wanted poster with a fairly decent sketch of Stede on it, wanted in conjunction with Blackbeard, aka Edward Teach???
Just Mary standing there like...Blackbeard, Edward...Ed.
Casually realising that your husband isn't just 'dating some guy named Ed' but that he's somehow gone from 'hobby pirate' to 'hopelessly in love with the real world incarnation of Satan' and then wondering if this means Blackbeard ISN'T terrible and having to just sort of agree when people talk about being scared shitless of this fucking ocean terrorist whilst knowing he's probably out there somewhere putting up with Stede's snoring and addiction to orange cake.

classic good omens x ofmd. it's the age of piracy. crowley's in blackbeard's crew ("he's cool and scary") and aziraphale is in the gentleman pirate's ("he's kind and keeps books!"). they decide to play matchmakers for their miserable friends, except it backfires astronomically. the captains pull a Teen Beach Movie and crush on them instead. ed makes heart eyes at aziraphale. stede blushes when crowley talks. panic ensues. lucius is laughing im the background cause my man Knows Everything.

Want You Bad
(Beckman x f!reader)
Pt. 1 Right For The Job
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Pairing: benn beckman x!reader Summary: Starting a new job is always a challenge, especially when one of your bosses seems aloof and distant with you. What's wrong with him? Is there anything you can do to earn his trust? The story of how Benn Beckman struggles to control his attraction to you onboard. Word count: 1800 Notes: Why do I continue writing about this gentleman? Because I can't stop. This is part 1 of probably... 4. Warnings: forbidden love, oblivious to love, friends to lovers. Tag list: @i-am-vita @fanaticsnail @gingernut1314 in case you're interested!
"Not bad," you thought, quite pleased with yourself, your eyes darting from one man to the other, trying to decipher what they were thinking.
You had just completed one of the most demanding job interviews of your life, and both the questioning and the practical test had gone rather well. The rigorous testing and skills demonstration had encompassed various aspects aimed at evaluating your proficiency in maritime knowledge and practical abilities. This included boat handling, from small to medium-sized vessels, understanding meteorological phenomena and their effects on sea currents, recognizing wind patterns, and managing crisis protocols at sea.
In record time and with a stopwatch in hand, you were required to display your ability to tie various maritime knots, adjust ropes, furl sails, and climb the rigging - all without feeling dizzy.
Questions regarding survival techniques and military medicine were also asked, inquiring about first aid procedures: cleaning wounds, disinfecting, stitching up, applying creams to burns and explosion wounds… The interviewers even asked you to apply a tourniquet to one of them.
When it came to social skills, you demonstrated that you were good at connecting with people and working in teams. You had a good sense of humor, and you were loyal if you felt your team was working for a just cause.
And lastly, you showcased your specialty: making precise shots at considerable distances. You adeptly handled various firearms, with your favorite being the revolver for its lightness and practicality. While you were somewhat less enthusiastic about swords, daggers, and other bladed weapons, you could still wield them proficiently when required. You were tasked with shooting at ten different targets, and you effortlessly hit them all without difficulty.
You had, in a manner of speaking, nailed it.
All that remained was for the two men who had interviewed you to deliberate and decide whether you would become part of the red-haired crew, or if, on the contrary, you would have to continue looking for work on other vessels docked at the pier.
"Thanks, Y/n. Just give us a sec to discuss it, okay?," the captain said, escorting you to the door of the cabin.
You stepped out onto the deck and settled on a bench, eagerly awaiting a response. To make the wait more entertaining, you retrieved your revolver, still steaming, from its holster and began to clean the gunpowder that was on it.
The voices of the two men could faintly be heard by the door, but you couldn't quite make out what they were saying. It seemed that if they had to discuss it, one of them was in favor of you being suitable for the job, while the other was not. You could imagine who was who... as during the interview, the captain seemed enthusiastic, while the first mate remained serious and cautious. You just hoped they would reach an agreement soon.
"Well, what do you think? Shall we keep her?" asked the red-haired captain, reclining in his chair and casually placing both feet on the table.
"Not sure, Shanks..." responded the first mate with a somewhat concerned expression.
"Why not? She aced all the tests, she's perfect. Fits right in. It's a yes from me."
"Not sure..." Beckman began to pace slowly around the room, hands behind his back, deep in thought.
"What's bothering you? That she's the only woman on board? I don't think it'll be a problem for the lads, they'll know how to behave... We just gotta lay down some ground rules, and everything will stay in order," Shanks remarked.
"The third shot was almost a miss..." Beckman stopped right in front of the table where Shanks was sitting and looked him straight in the eye.
Shanks lowered his feet, sat up in his chair, and leaned towards his friend, resting his arm on the table. "The third one... and almost... in a job interview where she was probably nervous. Come on Beck, she's one hell of a sniper, Yassop will love her."
Beckman maintained eye contact with his captain, struggling to conjure any objections against hiring the woman. After some pondering, not a single negative argument came to his mind that he dared to voice aloud. The woman was exceptional, and who was he to fight against his captain's eagerness? He let out a resigned sigh.
"Is that a yes?" Shanks' smile grew so wide it almost took up his entire face.
"A’right," he conceded, crossing his arms.
"Settled then!" Shanks said happily, hitting the table with the palm of his hand. "Let her know. Ask her to pack up and get settled on the ship today”. He rose to his feet and retrieved the cloak hanging over the back of the chair. “I'll talk to the crew to inform the lads”.
“Aye”.
Beckman stepped out onto the deck and found you sitting on the bench, still cleaning your revolver as you waited. Upon seeing him, you immediately holstered the gun and stood up, facing each other.
An awkward silence hung between you.
With an scrutinizing glance, he studied you, slowly withdrawing a pack of cigarettes from one of his pockets and extracting one. He tapped it against the packet several times, as though he intended to compact the tobacco inside.
His presence was imposing. You observed his rifle snugly secured to his sash, its stock pointing upward and aimed towards the ground. With just a quick glance, you could tell it was a good gun, and you wondered if he would ever let you shoot it.
He cleared his throat, and your attention snapped back to his eyes.
"The captain wants you to settle on the ship today," he said, calmly placing the cigarette in his lips after speaking.
"YES!" You jumped and clasped your hands together in excitement before immediately realizing your lack of professionalism. "...I mean... thank you!" Your smile was broad.
He withdrew a match and struck it, the flame flickering to life. With a practiced hand, he brought it to the cigarette, shielding the flame from the wind to prevent it from extinguishing. For a moment, you considered lifting your own hand to assist him.
"Go fetch yer things; we'll set sail by mid-afternoon," he added, taking a deep drag.
You already had all your belongings waiting at home. Being a natural optimist, and fairly confident that you would impress them with your skills, you had packed your bags in case they set sail that same day. Your luggage wasn't many, nor were they numerous, as your possessions were scarce being a practical woman who liked to constantly change places to discover new horizons. A bit of practical clothing to allow you to move with agility, some slightly more formal dresses for special occasions, the two or three books you liked the most, and the heaviest to carry: your set of firearms.
"Alright, see you in a bit!" Turning around gracefully, you hurried down the gangway to disembark from the ship.
“Don't be late”, he ordered, exhaling the smoke slowly.
“I won't!”, you shouted without a backward glance.
He watched you sprint down the gangway and leap onto solid ground. You began to run along the pier and, for a moment, you stopped and turned around to see the magnificent galleon from afar. The ropes meticulously fastened, the wood clean and varnished, the cannons stowed yet poised for any confrontation; and the sails, proudly displaying the fierce image of the skull with red stripes crossing its left eye socket. You couldn't help but smile, unable to contain your happiness.
Your new home.
The enthusiasm on your face gave you an air of innocence that could melt even the most cold-hearted man, Beckman thought, as he rested his arms on the ship's railing, watching as you drifted further away from the ship.
You were enchanting ...
Too enchanting ...
Too enchanting for him ...
And that 's what had made him hesitate.
His foremost duty as first mate was to ensure the safety of everyone aboard, a task demanding a steady hand and a clear mind in challenging situations that could arise at sea. And he excelled at it, remaining physically and mentally composed when precision and concentration were required. He had a knack for focusing without being sidetracked and that's why Shanks and the rest of the crew relied on him.
Yet, during the interview, his concentration had wavered, his attention captured by every movement you made, captivated by the curve of your shoulders and the line of your neck as you aimed your revolver, resolute in hitting the target. Despite his extensive experience with women, he had never encountered one who, with just a single glance, could distract him so completely.
And that was a problem.
You would be a distraction.
You would be his distraction
But that wasn't reason enough to reject your application; it was his problem, not yours, and under no circumstances would he tell Shanks the truth behind his reluctant behavior, as it would only result in him laughing in his face. It was clear that you were an incredible woman, skilled in various nautical arts and prepared for combat… it was just right to accept that you were perfect for the job.
He should only maintain his professionalism and control his emotions while working with you, and perhaps ... perhaps as the days unfolded aboard, this attraction he felt for you would fade away. You would be like a challenge to him.
Shaking his head, he headed to the upper bowcastle where Shanks was delivering a speech to the men.
"Damn, if we'd crossed paths in a village tavern where I could've let loose, things would have been mighty different," he mused.  He would have scrutinized your expertise in a field entirely different from the one you had been interviewed about, with a mattress serving as the stage for the trials.
Upon reaching the spot where the men gathered, Shanks paused and glanced at him, nodding slightly as an indication for him to come up and stand beside him. Stepping among the crew, he climbed the stairs and positioned himself next to Shanks, putting his hands on his pockets as he surveyed the men.
"... and that's why nobody's, and I mean nobody, is gonna get all lovestruck over her or lay a finger on her...”
Beckman rolled his neck to loosen the muscles and relieve some tension.
“... No peeking, no hitting on her, and definitely no making her feel weird; we'll treat her with respect and keep our mitts off her, got it?"
The men buzzed with excitement at the prospect of a new shipmate. It had been ages since they'd welcomed fresh faces aboard, and they were ready to seize any excuse for a celebration. Beckman observed the scene, inhaling and exhaling smoke from his lungs with a feigned calmness.
“Hey Yassop, looks like they've got you an intern!", Roux said, giving his friend a playful slap on the back.
“I hope she can handle her booze!”
Limejuice shook his head. “Ah, yeah, that is a must, not like the last one...”.
The breeze started to softly sway the rigging, indicating that the afternoon would be favorable for sailing just as they had anticipated.
“Get ready lads! We set sail in the afternoon!”

Just thinking about Ed’s fisherman thing…so imo Ed wasn’t breaking up with Stede…
Yes this is a panic induced run and hide…but he chose to tell Stede he was leaving and didn’t just walk away. He had ample opportunity to just not be there but he could be found if Stede sought him out.
What stands out to me about this entire conversation is that at no point does Ed say we’re over I’m done with our relationship, in fact he specifically says let’s just stop before we say something we can’t take back…he’s not looking to ruin the relationship
He thinks he’s giving Stede the opportunity to live out his dreams while respecting his own boundaries of not wanting to be a pirate anymore, of knowing this isn’t the lifestyle he wants.
I think part of why he shuts down the conversation after Stede says this can be whatever we want it to be is that they STILL haven’t really talked about their future and where they both are and he’s afraid of the fact that if Stede really wanted to he could absolutely convince Ed to go back to pirating but also Ed still equates pirating with Blackbeard they are one in the same and he can’t separate them. He doesn’t want to go back to what he was…this is where the panic comes in he’s afraid of being vulnerable and is making a spontaneous choice based on past traumas (I'm never calling them whims)…
The problem with deciding you know what your partner is thinking or what they would choose given the options is you put them on the back foot when you confront them with just an I’m gonna go do my own thing…
If Ed had asked or indicated he wanted Stede to go with him, I fully believe Stede would have but the dock has scared Ed out of doing that right now and Stede doesn’t really know A) what’s happening, he’s completely blindsided by the entire conversation and B) that Ed does want him to come, Ed will always want to be with Stede
But that’s kinda my whole point I think this wasn’t ever a break up from Ed’s perspective…he was not saying to Stede I don’t love you, I don’t want to be with you, we’re not right for each other…he was saying where you are and the lifestyle you want isn’t for me anymore I’ll be here on my little fishing boat you’ll know where I am when you’re done being an infamous pirate living your dream I’ll be here
The fact that he does it while assuming he knows what Stede would choose because past experience tells him that’s what would happen without talking it through because Stede was clear this can be whatever we want it to be, we can make this work in whatever way we need to, is what’s heartbreaking about the scene...

Benn Beckman's Alt Divorced "Dad Rock" Playlist
Some thoughts before I go hard into carving out Sapsorrow.
Tumblr media
Modern au Benn Beckman has a playlist the other guys always give him shit for, but he loves it.
When he's driving, that playlist is the only thing he allows over the radio. Shanks would rather be listening to literally anything else, but will tell the other guys to: "Pack it in! The big man's got some feelings he's gotta get out!"
Shanks secretly loves the playlist, especially the Red Hot Chili Peppers & Nickleback, but would never admit it.
Here is the playlist so far (that I've already forced upon @sordidmusings, @since-im-already-here & @feral-artistry)
If you have thoughts on what more to add, clue me in! I love making playlists, and this one was really fun to make.

The Sea Prince: Pirates’ Factions and Empires’ cast. Concepts!
Hello!! It’s been a while since I made a worldbuilding post, and because this AU is currently being revised, I’d like to welcome the side characters who will be making their appearances throughout the story! Firstly, I’d like to talk about the changes between Pirates SMP and Empires SMP to properly fit the vision of this world. These are still their main concepts until they’re (eventually) designed and fully realized, but this is what their general faction/ personality is like.
The factions exist! They’re split between the navy and hunters, given Team TIES are naval commanders, they should have some powerful people with them while the Red Canaries (ehehe they’re all bird names) deal with their rival group.
The shorter version is; Kites and Kestrels are Hunters, Herons are a special class of navy, and Nightingales are voyagers. Their characters and the Empires cast will be used for further development in the story. :D
I’m not well caught up in the characters of Pirates so they will not be gaining a description. The Empires cast will as I am more familiar with them!
* - special case
Here’s the general idea of the factions;
Formed out of shared interests, contracts, or skill, there are countless factions throughout the world. Like any faction or guild, they can be hired together to cover all their bases and work with each other’s strength. It’s not often this works, but they’re contractually obligated to do their jobs, so they keep their heads down. These groups and crews were formed naturally and hence, want to work with these specific members if ever brought on to jobs.
(This is still subject to change; the general idea is the same tho!)
Kites: Formidable and boastful.
Prioritizing strength, this faction of rowdy hunters are no stranger to the wilds of the ocean. They enjoy the thrill of the hunt and fighting evil monsters. This specific group cannot work with any hunter crew due to the belief of their superior strength and does not ask for help. They are particularly annoyed by the Canaries, thinking them to be spoiled and pampered due to being funded by the King himself. Hopefully their paths don’t collide. Hopefully.
IMPORTANT MEMBERS:
Aimsey
Bek
Kuervo
Reddoons
Tubbo
Etho (formerly)
Kestrels: Relic of the past.
Some members of this great faction were once Ren’s old crew, they thrived in a lavish lifestyle their hunts have provided them. A strong leader with a fierce second-mate, they were unstoppable. It was like this for a few years, but after their Captain’s death it hasn’t been the same. Their second-mate soon left to be in his former crew, and they are unsure what the future may hold. If they ever cross paths with the Canaries, especially with their former second-mate, threats of violence look over their heads.
IMPORTANT MEMBERS:
Ren (deceased)
Martyn (formerly)
Guqqie
Kyle
Sausage
Joey
Oli
*Scar (associated with the group in the past)
Nightingales: Explorers and Navigators.
Away from hunting and fighting, they simply want to travel and make it easier for people to get from place to place. They are a talented group who design and create machinery for travel and everyday use, but also spend their times in exploring and charting maps; a very versatile group indeed.
IMPORTANT MEMBERS:
Michela
Graecie
Will
Acho
App
Ros
False
*Pix
Herons: Elite Intelligence.
A group of very few, but strong leaders. They are special cadets from the navy who succeeded past their peers and are given special attention from their commanders as they train to, hopefully, lead in their place one day.
IMPORTANT MEMBERS:
Cleo (formerly)
Mumbo (formerly)
El
Olive
Owen
Water
Finally, we get to the Empires cast. Originally this au was only a Life Series x Empires fic due to some interesting dynamics the characters would have with some side characters, but pirates opened up a new opportunity and fills up some plot holes! I did say the Empires cast are getting their descriptions, so here they are!
‘Mythical ‘Myth’ J. Sausage.’
‘Humble’ and ‘polite’ are the first things he’d say about himself. He is particular in living the high life and wants to continue living up to his faction’s name. He can’t stand hanging around Martyn, so he openly makes fun of him for his own ego.
‘Joey Graceffa.’
Brought on by Myth/Sausage, Joey fits the bill of a Kestrel. He enjoys singing, but doesn’t do it as often as, “they don’t deserve to hear his voice”. He’s boastful and full of pride, joining Myth as he berates the former Kestrel. He doesn’t really know who the blonde is however, as he was brought to the crew a bit more recent.
‘Orion ‘Oli’ Sound.’
A wildcard. He’s eccentric and very chaotic, bringing all the energy into the Kestrels. He once challenged by Joey into a sing-off, and despite the other winning, Oli takes it in stride and forms a friendly(?) rivalry with the other Kestrel, making good laughs for everyone.
‘False Symmetry.’
A mechanic with big dreams. She helps build prosthetics and assists with any type of machinery, as she enjoys her time tinkering with any type of device. She likes to make herself useful, and would often go for a passive response to try and change things for the better.
‘Pix Rift.’
A researcher deep in his own thoughts. He joined the Nightingales out of their shared belief and interest in exploring, accompanying them in journeys and to breathe the open, fresh air towns and cities don’t have. He takes notes of all of his adventures but tries to keep up with his personal responsibilities, as it seems he can’t keep up with it usually.
‘Katherine Elizabeth.’
A vagabond hunter with no ties to anyone or anything, supposedly. She’s excitable and fun loving, adoring the thrill of the hunt and returning home to her girlfriend with a satisfied grin on her face. She makes her living like a mercenary would, sometimes it’s jarring that someone as upbeat and optimistic as she is also kills monsters for fun and a way to earn payment.
‘Shelby Grace.’
An explorer. She’s curious about the world due to living a relatively sheltered life and greets the world with open arms. She’s incredibly shy and prefers to explore on her own, but she wouldn’t mind traveling the world with her girlfriend.
‘Gemini Rose.’
A delightful person to be around but stirs up tricks with her twin brother. She means no harm to anyone she comes across, lest her overthinking get the better of her, and she’s all in to see the world despite the horror stories of the ocean. She’s not scared! If she’s with her brother, nothing is impossible.
‘fWhip Rose.’
A menace, but a fun one! He’s usually the one who initiates the schemes between the twins, but also the one who gets into the most trouble. Be it his reckless attitude, he’s not afraid to stand up for himself.
And that’s all I can say about them! Pirates has opened up so much ideas for the AU going forward, and I’m excited for you all to see! In the meantime… here’s the reveal of revised Act I’s titles and mini arcs, I can’t wait to show you what they all mean and contain >:)
