well, since i can't really draw or write Arknights stuff because I'm really charged this month, but the brainrot is still very strong, i decided to do a tierlist of my favorite operators!
explanations below the cut
i don't count alters on this tierlist, when I put a character I consider it's them + their alter version; the choice of if I picked the alter or not for the vignette is only based on aesthetic choices, really. also for comprehensive reasons, i tried to put all the related characters next to each other (like how the abyssal hunters are all next to each other)
My most beloved precious blorbos: this one speaks for itself, honestly. operators i absolutely love, that i think about almost on a daily basis, no minded doodles every so often, writing ideas poping up in my mind, big wall of text about how much i like them, autistic thoughts, you know the kind. i just love them very much, simply. originally, saria and ifrit were in the tier just below, since i considered that since i have silence as my favorite character, i did not need to also put them, but i learnt to love them individually rather than for what they represent to silence
Big smooch on their forehead: characters that i know very well the story of, and that I'm really attached! not to the point of being my all times favorites, but who spoke to me to a personal level, or that i used a lot in early game/still use today. i love to read about them and would love to draw or write more about them! justice knight is here as a honorary member
I think they're neat!: i don't know them that well, but i followed them in events, or did a bit of research about them for a reason or another, or simply one of my friends like them! and i do think they're neat, pretty interesting, not the kind i'd be absolutely attached to but i enjoy seeing them regardless :]
I would like to know more about them: feat Abyssal Hunters, the Nearls and Gavial's crew. they are characters i know a little bit about them or they are related to a character i love, but i got too lazy to read their event and files because it's too complicated, or too long, or whatever. but they are characters i know enough about to know i'll appreciate them! so im interested in knowing more about them
Here goes all the other operators, aka "I don't care or I forgot you exist": well, the tier's name once again speaks for itself. theres a ton of characters in that game, and I can't focus on every of them, especially when i started not that long ago. there's a lot that i genuinely just forget about, some that i know the story but i dont care that much to know more, and a few that i do wish to know more about! but not as much interesting as the tier above, so not my priority
I hate you /pos: (i ran out of colors) annoying ass characters with a shitty personalities but they're fun for the memes and i use them regardless (except tequila cause mlynar exists). not like actual hate, mostly affectionate hate, you know, like how you call your cat "stinky", but you still love your cat regardless. fact, at first i was genuinely uncomfortable with lappland, but then with il siracusano i started to feel better with her
I hate you /neg: characters i despise either for game reason or because their smug aura mocks me. phantom is because fuck him in is2 and his story is ehhh to me. gravel is because this character is seriously uncomfortable, for the love of god can you act normal, and i wouldn't mind her if she wasn't guaranteed with every fast redeploy tag. harmonie and ho'olheyak are just smug bitches. and ethan i just have a hate experience because i dont like using him and his voice + the music playing when he appears makes me so anger
Brother you can just die: Silverash tier. fuck you silverash. i don't like his face, i dont like using him, and i did not followed break the ice but i heard enough bullshit about him to know he's a terrible person. i hope i never roll him

Big fat thread about an unfinished Pokédex
Admittedly, they aren’t very Grass type for a starter line. They are herons/storks that end with a “mad” scientist and windmill motif, the latter is shown better in the G-Max tho. The G-Max is a Don Quijote “Giant” and likely how Homo Floresiensis looked at Flores’ giant storks
Storks are common in Spain and I saw literally a flock of migrating herons from my dad’s car during my childhood, hence why this pick for my grass starter
G-Max Crumenill was mostly inspired in giant flower-”crest” like the ones of Petaldramon or Flowered Sectonia
Hierbill’s neck is like green heron’s neck and Crumenill’s bow tie spins when generating electricity

The Fire starter line takes inspiration from the origin of the myth of fire salamanders, obviously axolotls/olms and San Juan’s bonfire, as well as something unfortunate about axolotls. This G-Max was the weakest design of the starter trio to be honest
The fire salamander is the most common salamander in Europe. The axolotl details were taken because they give a very good aesthetic and were easy to implement
The loose skin “coat” is meant to look short like a sorcerer cloak. The vivid belly patterns were based on Monster Hunter’s Nibelsnarf and the ones of the G-Max form are meant to look like lava
The unfortunate thing about axolotls is how their skin is damaged by staying too much time out of water. Good to find for the inspiration of this line, but the picture of the poor axolotl so crippled breaks my heart

Yeah, the Water starter line are literal water bears, tanks in every sense of the word, but as bears with traits of the tardigrade rather than the other way around (because the other is quite overused) and with fun inspiration in spanish stuff
Bathcub’s name was prompted by my friend EventHorizontal
Aside from the Iberian Bear, the traits of diving and astronaut suits and submarines are because the first versions of the suits were made by Spanish people. In the case of the submarine it was just the first armed submarine
Tankursa takes inspiration from Mecha Bun-Bun from The Battle Cats

The early Normal type line are just really European rabbits with a fun twist, turning into a spanish conqueror. They are super common here and a pest everywhere else, so you get the drill
Mundabitt looks like as if it was permanently startled/curious because I have never seen a rabbit directly that wasn’t like either of those
Clawqueror’s claws are meant to resemble the blades used by the conquerors, but they accurately are like how long rabbit claws are

The low tier early Bug types are earwigs because it’s very odd that such a mundane insect hasn’t been used by Pokémon yet. They have exaggerated rear pincers because earwigs doesn’t have much else than their butt pincers
The names of both use the spanish translation of buttface combined with words to fit the whole “It thinks it’s way cooler than how it actually is”
For the laughs, if I designed their stats, they would get Guillotine hilariously early

A regional variant! One of the many that at the end evolved into a new fakemon here. Is Pidove, but became a city pigeon by eating garbage, so it’s just really a regular pigeon

As they are Poison type and the colors of the rock pigeon fit with cigarettes, Filftdove’s color are based around these and smoke

Another line of early Bug types that starts as a pitiful worm that decides if to protect the weak as it was or if to get revenge on those who hurt it. Based on Kamen Rider like Lokix for the bug theme (although I made these years before)
Atempupa is mean to represent a punching bag and bandages
The fly hero/mosquito villain contrast was short of a joke because as a person with atopic skin, biting flies actually leave worse bites than mosquitoes
Tabanero is literally Kamen Rider. The wings are his scarf and when it goes G-Max it basically goes “Anime hero over the top stuff”, not because Kamen Rider but for fun
Maldamo is the leader of Shocker, but it takes heavy inspiration from Parallel Nightmare from Kirby. In fact, Maldamo has no legs

The early bird fodder here are based on sparrows and immediately in the second stage they are bearded vultures. Bird repeats do change to different species more often than you might think, but it’s honestly cooler to do this
Trituross takes the regular and clay-stained coloration of bearded vultures and nothing else because they are awesome enough
The Ground type was initially because the bone moves motif and added with clay to fit the concept, I didn’t know that bearded vultures ACTUALLY use clay on their feathers until much later

Pokémon did their own Spanish Grass cat and I decided to do mine. Interestingly both take inspiration from the Cipotegato, which was a funny coincidence, although mine ended inspired in San Jorge’s legend (and the Shrek Puss in Boots)
And if you think that Meowscarada is based in the Mars de Foie, you know shit about Spanish culture
The original idea was a rose Pokémon with a rapier (as it’s a Spanish sword) that turned Fairy in reference to the rose that grew from the blood of the dragon that San Jorge killed in his legend and was pretty much a Roserade clone
The concept nailing when like this:
1- The Tomatina is a well known Spanish tradition that involves a plant
2- Tomatoes and roses are related and their fruits are similar
3- One of the Tomatina’s origin comes from the legend of a harlequin with a cat mask
4- The Shrek’s Puss in Boots is a Spanish cat that wields a rapier

My Pikaclone here is a shrew because they have an unhinged metabolism and because they were perfect for an Electric/Poison fakemon. Also because with this I could make it more comfortable for my designing style
Originally it didn’t have the white Pikachu-like cheeks, but after Fauxlens suggested these to make it look more like the other Pikaclones I considered and finally used it

These weren’t for dog Pokémon fodder but more because I wanted to make a literal spanish water dog. While water dogs has been done fittingly as mop dogs, I wanted a different take that ties to poodles as they are hunting dogs
When you think in poodles you usually don’t get the picture of a hunting dog adapted to water, so that’s why I wanted to go in this vein

This Paras line is just free of harmful fungi and instead have benign symbiotic edible mushrooms. As child I always saw Parasect as a crab-spider thing rather than as a stylized cicada, so that’s why Matantis is like a mix of mantis and oil beetle with some fun in the mix
Certain oil beetles in Spain are called Aceiteras, which translates as oil container. Although subtle, the long body and nose are meant to be like a bottle of cooking oil
The mantis part is because the mushroom “buns” were inspired from Monster Hunter’s armor piece Chaos Cap, which is based in Chun-Li clothing
It isn’t Fighting because it was originally going to be Normal type and since it looks like an ugly Chun-Li and mantises just do fighting moves for bluffing, it was fitting

These Timburs use sacks instead of their regular tools to steal things from others. It’s based in a rural sport called “Smuggler Race” that involves carrying sacks like these
Before you ask, yes, I played the chorizo pun and yes, Chorerurr is just a politician
The chorizo thing is a pun because we use chorizo for the sausage but an old term for “to steal” was “chorar” and thus saying “ser un chorizo” equals to “to be a thief”
The Dark type was initially a bit forced in the most early versions but aside from the Smuggler Race, the sacks that they use were going to be the shed skin of another fakemon based on the man of the sack, a version of the spanish boogeyman, which was Dark type

Making an ice skating Surkist’s evo isn’t mindblowing, but I wanted to do my own take because it’s fun
Skice’s design takes inspiration from the main character of the Nitrome games’ Frostbite and its Spin Off Thin Ice, mostly on the latter

My first shiny ever was a Yanma in Platinum. As I lost the game eons ago, I made this to tribute it. This Yanma is a dragonfly nymph and the evolution, aside from the overused dragonfly pun, is based in a damselfly, which in Spanish they get the name of “Horses of the devil”
Damselflies’ Spanish name inspired some pretty cool pictures like this and became the main inspiration for Diablanma
Since it’s “horse”-like, it was intended to be a flying Poke Ride

This Tynamo line is all about love and passion, two things that lampreys absolutely don’t have. They bite and thrash to make babies, so for this absolutely anti-romantic fact I wanted to make this joke
The palette was inspired by the Spanish dish of lamprey cooked in their own blood and the Tinto River and the “burning passion” idea came because male lampreys have a special cord that heathens by pyrocells when reproducing

This variant of Rolycoly is quite literally the Ave trains because in Shinaipa they breed Rolycoly to not use coal and be more ecologic. They served me for years to see my father after my parents divorced
The penguin part is because ave means bird and because an inner joke about how the train stations in where I live are very cold
The idea for the G-Max was going to be the full train but as a goofy vertically elongated penguin which move would be called G-Max Delay
This, combined with Stall as a possible ability, is because these trains basically always get late

At this point these last lines didn’t get any lore because I was approaching the burnout of this dex, but for context, this one is based on the Gamusino. Essentially a fictional animal to prank strangers and kids

Based on the cases of witchcraft and witch-hunting in Zugarramurdi. They became vengeful wraiths after being burnt to death and use the fire that killed them to cast fireballs. Zugaruja’s eyes aren’t usually seen, but when you see them, you can feel the deep hatred of it

This line went through many many concepts around the same basis and while I didn’t bother in making Zugaruja’s G-Max, it would have been based around Drawcia Soul

These variants are based on the Gaizkin, a mythological vasque creature that sickens sleeping people by putting under their beds rooster heads made with feathers. You likely won’t find much about them because for some reason the info about these has become somehow more scarce through years
Their lore is that they were evil creatures that were ridiculed with chicken-like bodies as a punishment
The last evo, just like Grimmsnarl, is actually way thinner than how it looks due the feathers making its bulk
Its G-Max would have been roughly in the giant bird of The Claw (1957)
Baba Yaga ideas would have been fitting but very odd to use on this and not in Zugaruja’s one

The last two lines that were going to make into the dex were based around two ice poles we have here, starting kinda goofy but turning awesome for no reason. In this case they were based on Dracula poles
The pre-evo would have been able to sneeze icicles and the evo would have gotten an ability that boost 30% damage when hailing/snow, basically having recoilless Life Orb and a free item slot in hail/snow
The more I think about it, the evo is quite literally ice Noivern. Btw, this is the ice cream I’m talking about

Anyways, these go from red footed boobies to a short of mix of animals aiming for something like an owl bear because I wanted some short of abominable snow monster
I really mixed design traits to make the evo look cool, but I think that I was really thinking in some of the Frostbite’s creatures in my unconscious when doing this one

We have in Spain the legend of the Black Hand, a ghostly severed hand thing. Since I wanted to make a sock puppet for fun, I thought in making a counterpart since in Pokémon we have the White Hand
Aside from the ghostly hands inspiration, they are also themed on Master and Crazy Hand. In fact, the Crazy Hand one’s glove isn’t patched by needlework, it was added with staplers
The Crazy pre-evo is meant to look like that disgruntled Kermit’s face
Oh and yes, those translucid parts are bones. Of humans? Yes and no, but I will just leave that in the air

♡◦◦ Bunny's First Impressions: Sun Haven ◦◦♡
Sooooo I started playing Sun Haven and I have a lot of thoughts!! They're majority good because it is a really nice game and I'm having a lot of fun, and I am nowhere near done with the game I only just started. I thought that I would ramble a bit about my thoughts for anyone that was considering the game or just anyone that might have been curious!
Disclaimer: This is by no means a full blown review of the game considering I have only played for a couple days and therefor haven't really experienced much that the game has to offer. This is also not meant to sway anyone one way or another, rather just give some insight to some things and just ramble about my experience. I'm merely just a person who likes video games and likes to talk about them!
Introductions and Initial Thoughts
First things first, this game is BEAUTIFUL! It really is a nice looking game with a lot of aesthetically pleasing things about it that I find just wonderful. If you're like me, someone who enjoys pixel art games than this is right up your alley. Not to mention the designs are just very fantasy feeling for those that really like that sort of thing, like me. It's got similar mechanics and such to Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon, which it is obviously inspired by. And it does that well, in my opinion.
Not to mention the characters that I've seen so far are wonderful, and they seem to have some depth. I'm still getting through story stuff so I can't give you much there, but I am very interested! There seems to be a good bit of romanceable characters that are interesting, and give a lot of excitement to want to play multiple times over not just for them, but for the character creation as well!
Replay value is something I look in a game, and I genuinely believe this game will do that. It can be a bit dialogue heavy so far, but I don't see that being an issue for me, seeing as I'm used to that sort of thing. Plus, I can tell the care that went into the story so far, which goes a long way to me personally.
Character Creation
This is in its own separate thing, because I have a lot to say. From what I saw early on before I bought the game, it looked like there was a lot to offer in the way of character creation. I figured I would be there for a while, and believe me, I was! There were a lot of options that I had to weigh, and like I said above, I am nowhere near finished! I'm sure that there is a lot of options to unlock later on, which will open even more options for me to choose from to customize my character.
As far as inclusivity, there were definitely options for different hair textures and skin tones, however I felt like there could have been more. It's not my place to say whether or not it was good or not, but I can definitely tell you that there is a few! It seems like a fine base, but I know that from what I've seen from others comments, it's definitely not enough.
There is a few things that did disappoint me, considering these small personal things that no way hinder gameplay in any aspect. I felt like there were more options for some things and less for others, which was a little disappointing considering I went down the list of all different options that you could pick. For example, I was heavily looking forward to the option of the Amari, considering that it looked like I could live out my furry dreams. But I felt like it was a little lacking, especially in the fact that there weren't that many options other than dogs and cats, with a few reptiles (that didn't really have anything to be honest).
And given the fact that there was a bunny witch to romance, I was very shocked that there wasn't a bunny! I also felt as if there were less fun options for the dogs than there were cats, not to mention there weren't any fun fox or wolf stuff either. Again, this is all personal and in no way should be taken as anything other than that. I am only one person, and I do not speak for everyone! You can't add everything, but it just felt like considering the array of options, someone would end up out of luck with their pick.
Inventory Management and Crafting
This is its whole separate section bc I have a lot to say on the matter. First off, I love that you're not struggling with inventory space in the beginning! You don't have to worry about upgrading right off the bat and not having any room, and chests are relatively easy to get. However as I'm in early game, I'm running into a problem of having too many chests bc they feel kind of light to me. But again that could very well just be personal preference!
The one thing I am finding issue with is mainly just how many crafting machines there are, and how it seems to be incohesive and confusing. As someone who is disabled, it can be very overwhelming and difficult with lots of options. This is true for every game like this with crafting, however i'm finding that with all of the different crafting machines you need for things, it's hard to keep track. And it's often cluttered.
Half of my land is already taken up by all the machines I need, not to mention that it's confusing which can be made with which one. That's where the wiki is pretty much essential, and I know that kind of thing is not everyone's cup of tea. Having to consult a wiki for everything can be pretty extensively, though I don't mind it much. It's only frustrating when I realized that some things you'd expect to craft with one machine, you will need a whole new one for it instead.
While there's nothing wrong with the options, it can be really hard for someone with ADHD who's brain doesn't process that kind of thing very well. And again, this is just my experience, so that will be very different from others. Just a little thing that I feel like could have been condensed, but I absolutely enjoy the array of options that we have!
Gameplay
Like I said before, it's very similar to games like Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon in a lot of the gameplay aspects. There are an array of tools that you use to tend to your farm, as well as magic for whenever you're in combat! I'm very excited to delve deeper into the magic, and since I'm very early game I don't have a lot to say on that quite yet. However, it looks like a lot of fun!
One complaint that I've seen from these games is how the time seems to go by quickly or too slow, and they have included an option to adjust the way time flows in the game, which is very awesome. It's a great accessibility feature, and I have adjusted the settings myself to meet my own personal needs! And the game feels like it flows perfectly, and I don't ever feel rushed. In fact, I find myself going to bed a little early in game due to the fact that I have time set to go a little slower than I'm used to!
Not to mention the fact that, unlike a lot of these games, there is an autosave feature! You don't have to worry about having to run to bed and waste an entire day, because you need to save the game and shut off for the day. That was one of the biggest things that excited me about this, as well as my next point: Skill Trees!!!
I was so excited to see a massive array of skill trees to unlock, and while I can see it can be overwhelming for some, it gives me an excuse to keep playing and doing everything the game has to offer. There are so many different sets of skills to unlock more fun things, and this is where you'll get a lot of your upgrades to make your playing much faster and efficient. There are also a lot of other fun additions that they bring to your gameplay that I'm so excited to see in the future while I play.
Conclusion
There are so many things I didn't touch on, and this is only the surface of what the game has. I'm not really a game reviewer, just someone that loves video games and finds rambling about them fun! Please take this post with a grain of salt, and if this game sounds like something you'd enjoy, I would recommend it! Just be prepared to be thrown in for a loop for how many options they have for items, characters, and more! There is so much to this game, and am I excited to see what it has to offer!!

It used to be Kaoru alone who visited Kojiro’s restaurant when it was closed on Mondays. But since the start of winter break, Sia la Luce had become much livelier now that Reki, Langa, and Miya weren’t in school all day, and Shadow came when his days off lined up right. If Kaoru were being honest, it took some time to get used to the space no longer being only his and Kojiro’s, but he’d grown to like how their group came together like this.
The afternoons were the quietest part of these days. Kojiro took these opportunities to try out new recipes on them, leaving everyone contentedly full and pleasantly sleepy. Today, Langa had actually fallen asleep in the booth, and Reki sat beside Kaoru at the counter, playing with a tiny skateboard and making soft sounds like a small motor. Shadow and Miya sat at a table across the room, arguing over whether clown or cat makeup looked cooler while Kojiro finished cleaning. Kaoru let himself sink into the lull, Reki’s noises and that of the skateboard wheels on the counter an almost comforting presence beside him. And yet, one thing was missing, keeping him from truly relaxing.
“Seems like a good afternoon for tea,” Kojiro said, as if reading his mind as he appeared out of the kitchen, wiping his hands on a towel. “You want me to make some?”
“Absolutely not,” Kaoru scoffed. “People who microwave their tea should be arrested.”
“There’s no way you can tell the difference,” Kojiro said, defensive. “Hot water is hot water.”
“Only an uncultured pig would believe that,” Kaoru snapped. He was about to stand, to tell Kojiro he’d make the tea himself like he always inevitably had to, when Reki all but leaped from his seat, skateboard abandoned for the moment.
“I’ll make it!” he offered, and the way his face lit up meant that Kaoru took too long to say not to bother. By the time he’d found his words, Reki had already bounded around the counter and into the kitchen, and Kojiro didn’t even try to stop him. Before Kaoru could tell Kojiro to stop him, Reki called out to Kojiro, asking about the industrial stove, and soon, Kojiro was not only allowing Reki to make the tea, but encouraging him.
Kaoru supposed this was a step up from Kojiro’s microwave technique, but if Kaoru were likely to trust anyone other than himself to make a decent cup of tea, it wouldn’t be Reki. The idea that he’d wanted his tea made well and was unlikely to receive it as such set him on edge. As he listened to the water boil and the conversation continued around him, he found himself wrapping a strand of his hair around his finger and tugging, letting it go, and repeating the process until his scalp hurt. He didn’t even notice that Langa had woken up until he appeared beside Kaoru and spoke.
“What’s Reki doing?” he asked.
“Making tea,” Kaoru said, doing his best not to appear so anxious about something so small.
Langa peered over the edge of the counter to where Kojiro and Reki were talking in the kitchen, and then turned back to Kaoru. “I like how he makes it. I never liked it before I met him.”
Kaoru hummed a halfhearted response. He doubted that Langa’s standards were very high, given that he’d grown up in Canada. He’d likely had tea often enough, given that his mother was Japanese, but Kaoru knew from experience that plenty of people even here in Okinawa had no idea how to brew a proper cup. It was about timing, knowing how hot to make the water, how long to steep the leaves, and so many people rushed the process—or worse, forgot about it and steeped too long—that Kaoru preferred to make his own.
He couldn’t help but envision Reki handing him a bitter cup, or one that tasted like little more than hot leaf juice. He grimaced at the idea of having to drink it and pretend he liked it, suffering all the while. He would have to wait until he was home later to make something better for himself.
He was still trying to think of a polite way to decline the tea he’d obviously wanted when Reki came out bearing a tray of steaming cups and began making the rounds through the restaurant. Reki handed the first one to Langa, who accepted it, smiling softly up at Reki. Langa sipped the tea immediately, only to flinch and draw it away after the first sip.
Not promising, Kaoru thought. If he’d boiled the water, it was ruined, even if it was something as simple as green tea. And yet, Langa only took another sip while Reki looked on approvingly.
“It’s good,” Langa finally proclaimed, and Reki glowed as if he’d received praise from the emperor himself. Reki moved on, handing Kaoru his cup.
“Thank you,” Kaoru said, accepting it with both hands. Fortunately, Reki moved on to Shadow and Miya without waiting for Kaoru to try it, which meant that he didn’t know Kaoru only held onto it without making a move to taste it. If nothing else, he could enjoy the warmth that crawled from his fingertips all the way to his elbows.
Neither Miya nor Shadow hesitated in drinking theirs, though Kaoru couldn’t imagine they cared much how it tasted, as long as it was hot. And yet, as he watched, the two of them looked just as pleased as Langa when they tried it.
“Oh wow, the slime makes good tea,” Miya pronounced, hugging the cup close to him like a space heater.
“Damn, this is pretty good,” Shadow said, drinking deeply and draining half the cup. “How’d you even learn to make it like this?”
Reki shrugged, taking up his own cup, the last on the tray. He set the tray down on the counter and took the empty seat beside Langa. “I dunno, I guess I just picked it up over the years. It’s kinda like making skateboards, y’know? You have to figure out how all the parts fit together, and if you do it wrong, the tea doesn’t taste right.”
Kaoru looked up at him from the murky depths of his tea, brows raised. When it came to making tea, the analogy was rather profound, and Kaoru couldn’t argue it. Reki was right—tea was about the sum of its parts, the pieces fitting together perfectly. And as with building skateboards, the person making it had to know exactly how to combine each piece to create the whole.
“That doesn’t make any sense, but whatever,” Shadow said, taking another sip. “All I care about is that it doesn’t suck.”
“How come you’ve never made us tea before?” Miya asked, eyes trained on the Switch he’d pulled from his pocket now that he’d abandoned his conversation with Shadow.
“I don’t really have the patience for it,” Reki said sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. “It’s kinda like, if I don’t wanna put in the time to do it right, why bother?”
While everyone was wrapped up in conversation, Kaoru finally chanced a discreet sip. If it was as bad as he’d expected, he could school his expression appropriately while they were all distracted. Perhaps he could even get away without having to lie about how good it was. And yet, when the tea touched his tongue, he paused.
It wasn’t too hot.
It wasn’t too weak or too strong.
It wasn’t too bitter and the leaves didn’t taste as though they’d been burnt.
It was, as far as Kaoru was concerned, some of the best tea he’d had outside his own home. For a moment, he couldn’t find the words to say so. He sipped it again, just to make sure he hadn’t deluded himself based on everyone else’s praise. Sure enough, it was almost more delicious the second time.
“You surprised?” Kojiro murmured at his ear, his own cup dangling from his fingertips. Kaoru jumped, nearly spilling his tea. When he turned to face him, Kojiro’s lips quirked in a smug grin, and he raised one brow meaningfully. Kaoru shot him a hard glower in return, a silent command to keep his mouth shut before Kaoru turned back to Reki.
“It’s delicious,” Kaoru said, and it wasn’t forced in the least. “I’m impressed.”
Reki, who had already immersed himself in talking to Langa, gaped at Kaoru, one of his hoodie strings falling from between his teeth. Then, he flashed a wide grin. “Glad you like it!”
“Have you ever practiced tea ceremony?” Kaoru asked, reluctantly setting his tea down on the counter.
“Nah, my parents let me try it once when I was younger, but I kept messing up the steps,” Reki said. “It’s not really fun when people get mad at you for doing it wrong.”
“I studied it for some time,” Kaoru said, remembering how the order felt comforting, how the amount of concentration it required gave his anxious mind something to focus on, how the simple yet refined aesthetic felt like clearing his head. In recent years, he didn’t have time for it with his calligraphy business, but a part of him missed it. “It’s quite a bit different from drinking tea like this, but if you wanted to, perhaps we could do a...modified version of it. Something less formal with everyone here.”
Reki’s eyes brightened, and he looked to Langa, who only seemed to share his enthusiasm. “It sounds fun, yeah! A lot better than getting yelled at by a bunch of old people because ‘tradition.’”
“I’d say so,” Kaoru said, and they devolved into talking about their favorite teas and the best ways to brew them. Kaoru couldn’t remember the last time he’d talked to someone who actually understood that tea was an art even more than it was a drink. But Reki did, and when the rest of the group finally left, leaving Kaoru and Kojiro alone in the restaurant to clean up, Kojiro nudged him with an elbow.
“You didn’t think Reki could make tea like that, did you?” he said, the words teasing but too close to Kaoru’s own thoughts for comfort.
“Shut up or I’ll leave you here to wash dishes alone,” Kaoru quipped, even as he accepted the next cup to dry. “I will admit, I was pleasantly surprised.”
“I knew you would be,” Kojiro said as he dried his hands and stretched.
“Anything is better than microwaved tea,” Kaoru said. And although it was true, he couldn’t help but look forward to the next Monday, and the last before the kids started school again.

Ateez members most to least likely to date a chubby/plus size individual!
Disclaimer: If I remember correctly, the Ateez members said they don’t care what their S/O looks like, it’s all about personality, so I don’t think they would really care about one’s weight. However, everyone on earth does have a “preference” (for lack of a better word) and is why I’m doing this. As a fat person, one learns to pick up on certain ~vibes~ for physical attraction. Remember, as long as you are healthy, whatever that means to you, and doing your best, that’s all that counts! I also don’t know any of the ateezers irl so this is just assumptions based on personalities they’ve shown us, what they’ve stated, and their ~vibes~.

Justifications under the cut!
Yunho: I have to agree with the tumblr atiny that he is the #1 person in Ateez to go for a thicker S/O. IDK if he said something about it and I missed it and that’s why there’s such unanimous agreement, but anyway... His vibes are definitely in this category and I’m willing to bet that part of the reason is because he loves cuddles a lot (see: him and san at every fansign ever). I think he might prefer a thicker S/O because they might feel better to carry in general. Not to put down my skinny/thinner friends, but I’ve seen that tall and well-built men of any ethnicity/race tend to go for chunkier S/Os (at least women-attracted men) and I don’t think Yunho would be any different in this regard...also more squish during sexual activities which I feel like he would like.
San: This absolute baby boy! He’s emphasized multiple times that he basically doesn’t give a shit about looks and it’s all personality but I feel like his vibes are definitely leaning more towards a thicker S/O and in my experience those who have thicker S/Os tend to push the “looks don’t matter” agenda with complete seriousness the way he does. Anyway, he’s also on the skinny side in general (see: pre-debut photos) and probably eats a lot to keep up with his cheeta-like metabolism (see: him excited that he got “fat” probably meaning he might’ve been underweight prior to entering Ateez and many underweight people are that way because they have trouble putting on weight). I feel that he would prefer to have an S/O who’s not afraid to eat, (tends to be chunkier people, source: am chunky person and other social media creators), absolutely loves cuddling anybody and anything (see: him with any of the members at any time), and he plays a lot of video games so dare I say: it is the skinny, nerdy, gamer boys that like thicker women and I would extend this thinking to liking thicker men as well...just t h i c k people in general of all gender identities. (He’s a secret, not-so-secret nerd, fight me.) I also feel he would rather wear your sweater and steal your clothes than the other way around, but that’s just me. Finally, chunkier = his personal heater in the winter lol considering he is on the skinnier side.
Seonghwa: Look me in the eye and tell me this soft man who loves his plushies and takes care of the members would reject a thicker S/O. I’m not falling into stereotypes here because I feel this man’s vibes for his preferred personality (it ain’t mine lmao) but more than likely wants someone he can care for and what better way than food? I know he’s certainly not the cook of the group, but he l o v e s eating food the way all the members do so he also needs someone that has an appetite like he does. Also, plushies = soft, squishy, good for cuddles; chunkier S/O = soft, squishy, good for cuddles. He’s another one that would want to steal your clothes and wear them lol and because he is part of the gentle giants club in Ateez, he’d be hard-pressed to find an S/O taller than him that is woman-identifying, if that’s who he’s attracted to.
Yeosang: Dear Yeosang, the group’s baby. He’s a bit harder to pin down in terms of which body type he leans towards more, thinner or chunkier, so in general he probably genuinely doesn’t care. You’re thinner than him? He can wrap himself around you and engulf you. You’re thicker than him? He’ll curl into you like a cat and wrap y’all in a blanket burrito. Point being. he’s gonna be all over you because he has so much love to give in general. However, considering he is the second strongest in Ateez, he might go for a chunkier S/O just to motivate him to work out more and to make sure you know you can thrown around like a thinner individual. All in all, I genuinely don’t think he has a preference like the others might.
Hongjoong: Our charismatic leader is the very definition of not giving a shit. I just get “your personality is either compatible with mine or it’s not” vibes and unless he’s simply hooking up with someone, I don’t think looks are much a factor in his decision to pursue a relationship with someone. This is not to say the other members are shallow or anything because they really aren’t, but there are few people in this world that don’t have a body preference and I feel like our leader falls into that category -- the same way he stated that he doesn’t care about physical looks when deciding if he wants a friendship with someone. So long as your personality is compatible with his, his body preference will be whatever your body type is.
Mingi: Princess Mingi! He’s such a sweetheart. Anyway, he’s near the bottom of the list because while he probably doesn’t care too much, I feel like he would pursue someone with a thinner body type. He feel like he would love to pick up his S/O at any time and have them be light as a feather to easily spin around (not saying bigger bodies can’t do this...but you know what I mean). I feel like he would also love giving them piggyback rides and pampering them in ways that he might not give a thicker body a second glance. He has muscles and works out, don’t get me wrong, but his vibes tell me that he would probably pursue a thinner S/O just because.
Jongho: Listen, I love our magnae/maknae, but he’s towards the bottom for similar reasons to Mingi. Additionally, I feel that Jongho would want to feel like the protector (tm) in the relationship and have someone “complimentary” to him, at least aesthetically. To achieve this, though, he would probably go for a thinner body type despite being, arguably, the strongest in Ateez and that might make some people inclined to say that he might actually go for thicker instead of thinner but I say nay.
Wooyoung: Arguably the brattiest and loudest in Ateez! Now don’t come for me for this one, but I get the vibes that Wooyoung may not want a chunkier S/O. Hear me out! He doesn’t seem the type to engage in body shaming in any way, especially because he knows what it’s like to be body shamed. However, I don’t think he would want to date someone who is thicker just because he dropped a lot of weight because he didn’t like the way he looked -- which was thicker than he is now. I think he just would subconsciously try to get a chunkier S/O to work out with him to “lose the weight” as many people actually do when courting/dating a thicker S/O and that’s gonna cause a rift between him and his S/O if the S/O doesn’t want to lose the weight (because, unless it is endangering one’s health, one doesn’t need to). Yes, he is the chef of the group and would probably want to cook a lot for his S/O, but that S/O would probably have to have a cheeta-like metabolism or just not eat much of his cooking. I know that many people think that “just because someone thinks [x] about themselves doesn’t mean they think [x] about you” and that is some BS. I could be wrong and be surprised if he prefers a chunkier body type, but I have a hard time reading those vibes.

Yoru HCs by a Japanese American Pt. 3
Yoru saw the Tokyo Drift MV when he was little and decided to make it his entire personality.
he tries to be effortlessly cool and suave. most of the time, he just comes off as an ass.
Yoru also likes to collect things. he’s genuinely passionate about some of them, like sneakers and Pokémon cards, others are more just for clout (like his knife collection).
stop name dropping brands during missions, Yoru. you’re not as cool as you think you are.
he likes the whole racecar aesthetic and image, but he doesn’t care about cars themselves.
similarly, he is a fan of the Yomiuri Giants (the Tokyo baseball team), but it’s more because he likes the team colors and jerseys. it’s not like he hates baseball, because he can swing a bat pretty well, but he doesn’t really follow the baseball scene.
Yoru secretly likes old Japanese delinquent media with the protagonists having hearts of gold. he’s grown up watching shows where gangs customize their school uniforms with long black coats and pants and swing around nail-imbedded baseball bats.
"So much fuss over nothing. Someone get me a bat, I'll finish this.”
what a nerd.
he’s especially a huge fan of sukeban in media (Japanese girl gangs). the fact that they created their own groups out of spite for not being included in male-led gangs makes him so hype. he thinks the cropped tops and long skirts are an incredible fashion statement and likes to follow the same silhouette in his own outfits off-duty.
Yoru’s favorite character tends to be the “anego” (lit. “big sister,” or leader) of these girl gangs, the one who is levelheaded, commanding, and straightforward, but brutally defeats her enemies if her gang members are hurt.
Yoru has a large collection of stuffed animals that he won from claw machines. he has no idea what to do with them, and it’ll be a waste to throw them out, so they’re just scattered all over his place in Japan. he brings a couple to base, including his prized Gengar.
Yoru also likes cats. stray cats seem to be drawn to him. he complains that this is a burden rather than a blessing, but he always smiles when he gets to scratch a cat behind its ears, so he’s 100% lying.
Yoru is very particular about hygiene and detests those 5 in 1 bottles that often show up in men’s hygiene sections. he’s really into haircare and skincare as well. even if he looks dead tired, his skin is always glowing, which many of the other Valorant agents envy.
one of the biggest parts of the culture shock Yoru has when going to other countries is the perception of baths. to Yoru, soaking in a bath is a daily necessity after a shower, while to many others, a bath is a luxury. Yoru will rage about this to anyone who’s willing to listen.
it’s not like he’s obsessed with baths, but he just misses bath culture in Japan. Yoru can get terribly homesick.
Yoru also doesn’t like getting dirty. he carries around spare pairs of disposable chopsticks, so when he eats snacks like chips he won’t run the risk of getting crumbs all over him.
at first, the Valorant agents think it’s a little strange, watching him walk around picking out chips from a bag with chopsticks, but then they quickly realize how resourceful this is.
they’re a little mad that they haven’t thought of this, actually. Yoru constantly gloats about this.
on base, Yoru has a pair of lacquered chopsticks. they’re a polished dark blue with intricate golden leaf and carnation patterns twisting up the sides.
when Yoru washes them and leaves them out to dry, it’s an unspoken rule that no one is allowed to touch them but him.
on Jett and Sage’s birthdays, Yoru gifts them each their own pair of lacquered chopsticks. it’s a surprisingly thoughtful gift that they love.

summary: After being chased out of their old hideout by heroes, the LOV goes on the hunt for a new base of operations, lucky for them DABI’s girlfriend is more than willing to share. It's a complete surprise for the LOV, discovering their resident emo is dating who seems to be the softest person on the planet- and also just so happens to be a popular streamer/ youtuber known for defending vigilantes and villains.
Muttered curses escaped Shigaraki’s mouth as he, alongside the rest of the League, only just managed to slip into a maze of alleys and lose their annoyingly loud tail-- Endeavour.
Toga lay collapsed on her back, glaring empty threats at the sun that seemed to latch onto the group’s dark aesthetic and burn them. Beside her, propped against a wall, Twice wrapped bandages around a possibly unconscious-- or dead-looking Spinner.
Amongst the homeless, ragtag group of villains only two appeared unaffected by the situation: Compress, who had previously expressed a need to constantly look confident to play the role of a proper performer; and Dabi, who eerily wore a creepy smile as he glanced over the message on his phone before speedily typing up a response.
Shigaraki, having finally caught onto the unusual smile on his subordinate’s face, quickly spoke up,
“Oi asshole, finally gone batshit insane or got some good news for us?” - a snarl was prominent on his face, not finding nearly as much amusement as Dabi clearly was.
“Don't take a bite at the hand that feeds you, or in this case houses all of our pleb asses.”
It was a simple reply, the tone and vulgar word choice familiar to the group, yet the implications of his words left everyone wide-eyed, leaping up and staring at him with something akin to surprise and ‘genuine’ joy and happiness.
Finally looking up from his burnt and smashed phone, Dabi took a glance over his partners in crime before letting out a sigh, the explaining himself:
“My ‘close acquaintance’ lives nearby-- she’s willing to let us crash at her place as long as we don’t fuck it all up. It’s a big house, practically bordering on a mansion, one and it's got plenty of room and games to play; looking at you handjob.”
Looking down at his phone once more, he clicked the power button on the side and pocketed it, removing himself from where he was leaning on one of the alley walls and walking to the entrance- or exit- of the alley,
“Pick up the pace, it’s either this or the abandoned mental hospital four streets down, and I'd rather not spend the next month or so sleeping in a bathtub that’s most likely seen more deaths than even old handjob here has.”
Resigning to their fate, the rest of the League members composed themselves, before rushing after Dabi: Toga and Twice relentlessly teasing him for finally opening up, and about having a girlfriend of all things.

The League stood before a large gate guarding a picturesque, modern chateau that apparently belonged to their blue-fired emo-- yeah, no way that he didn’t just choose a random house with the residents away to try and impress the rest of them.
“Seriously, Dabi if you wanted us to start killing off the rich sooner you could’ve just said- no need to bring us here for a surprise murder! Personally, I think Dabi’s doing quite well for himself if he’s got a girlfriend this rich: let’s kill her off and steal her inheritance!”
Twice wasn’t doing much to calm everyone’s nerves, having been laying low in abandoned warehouses and crippling houses just short of collapsing, a place that stood directly in the middle of the chaos of the city and held its tall stature alongside the other snobby houses in the street around it was quite the change.
Dabi sneered once more before walking up to the slightly worn keypad at the side of the gate, glancing down at his phone and typing in the code. The rest slightly expected alarms to start blaring, for red and blue lights to start filling their vision as disgusting screeching from police cars pounded on their skulls, but instead: a mechanical clicking could be heard alongside the turning of gears as the gate in front of them pulled apart to let them pass,
“Don't stare all day, believe or not we’re still criminals on the run and the snotty bitches around here won’t hesitate to call the police on us.”
And with that, the League dragged themselves through the gates, mumbling about the distaste of this situation- Toga chasing after Spinner down the driveway, kicking up stones that crumpled under their feet, stirring up dust.
Around the front of the house sat a garden of moss- whether the choice was made for the environment or out of laziness left unclear. A few small fountains are artificial small waterfalls to spread moisture lay around, splattering the surrounding areas with water.
The patio was rather plain, a space to leave neglected packages and mail, alongside a bench and coffee table set that showed signs of weathering. The thing that stood out the most against the withering patio was the large, black, pristine door with a silver handle and two locks-- which just so happened to be left unlocked by a possibly forgetful owner.
The League’s fire user cut through the stunned silence by reaching a hand out to the door and pushing it open, yelling out to his girlfriend who was yet to be seen:
“[y/n], I brought the idiots as you wanted! Where are you?”
A muffled ‘here’ could be heard from across the house, Dabi walking further into the house to find the source, while the others followed like lost ducks.
The group of villains stumbled through a front room, past a dining table and marble kitchen before arriving in a decent-sized room. The dull lighting called attention to the bright flashing and movements on the monitor/ TV. Clicking and clunking made its way to their ears as the girl slumped over in a beanbag surrounded by plushies and teddies of differing sizes. Suddenly, the sound of a distant gunshot blew through the room, blasting from speakers to create a surround sound effect-- Spinner jumped slightly at the disruption while Shigaraki eyed the giant screen which now displayed a ‘game over’ message on it.
The girl seemed upset over the loss, yet quickly placed down her controller and spun around, grabbing a small remote and holding down to turn the lights back to their full brightness- temporarily blinding the members.
In front of them stood a girl with an average build, a cat plushy squished between one arm as she gently smiled at the League- no resemblance of fear, horror or disgust that they were usually greeted with.
“Hello, you’re the League of Villains, right? Please make yourselves at home, just try not to break anything!”
The welcoming grin across her face greatly contrasted the manic one on Dabi’s; full of evil satisfaction at his ‘teammates’ stupefied faces. Meanwhile, only one coherent thought ran through the shocked group’s brains:
‘How the fuck did this dickhead get a girlfriend as sweet as her?’

You stood at the door of Tokoyami’s room, clutching the book in your hands in anxiety. You remembered the day everyone looked at each other’s rooms and how Tokoyami was greatly embarrassed about his. Is it okay for me to knock on his door? But if I don’t, how do I return the book? Will he be upset that someone’s at his door?
Your mind raced with questions, but you pushed them down with a deep breath. You knocked on Tokoyami’s door and waited for all of two seconds before it cracked open. You could see only a sliver of Tokoyami, as he opened the door just enough for you to see most of his face. For a moment, you forgot why you were there, that is until Tokoyami glanced down to see his book in your hands.
“Oh, thank you, (y/n), I didn’t realize I’d forgotten it,” he spoke as he moved his eyes back up to face you. There was a certain softness to his expression that you couldn’t quite pick out because of the feathers.
You held the book out with both hands. “It’s no problem! I forgot I was still holding it to be honest.”
He reached for the book and brushed your fingers with his as he grabbed it. You quickly let go and clasped your hands behind your back, trying not the blush at the accidental contact. His fingers were warm and somewhat rough, but not too rough. You didn’t know why you were so embarrassed deep inside about the contact. You hadn’t really spoken to Tokoyami much until today, so why were you so damn nervous around him now?
Tokoyami’s eyes stayed trained on the book as he kept it in front of him. His eyes still didn’t move as he began to speak again. “I apologize for leaving so abruptly. I hope I didn’t offend you.”
You were taken aback by his apology, as you didn’t really expect one in the first place. You felt heat rise to your cheeks as you responded, “Oh, no, it’s fine! I know you don’t really like being around a lot of noisy people. I promise I didn’t take it personally!” You beamed a smile at him as reassurance.
Tokoyami in all honesty didn’t know how to respond. Just like you, he was taken aback, but he was taken aback by your understanding and sincerity. In his experience, most people would tell him to go back downstairs because socializing would be “good for him.” He tended to disagree with them. But here you were, agreeing with him before he even got a chance to tell you his perspective. It was more than refreshing.
Tokoyami raised his eyes to look at you again. “Thank you… Both for returning the book and for your understanding.” He felt an intense admiration for you that was not there before that morning.
You rubbed the back of your neck in embarrassment. “Yeah, like I said, no problem!” You left your hand to linger on the back of your neck as a sudden silence overcame the both of you. As the silence persisted, you could not shake the feeling that you needed to spend more time with Tokoyami. You had an idea, but you didn’t know if it would be too uncomfortable for Tokoyami. But, you thought it was worth a shot.
“Y’know, I’m having a movie marathon with Hagakure and Ojiro later today. If you want, it’d be nice if you came too!”
Tokoyami’s feathers started ruffling as you spoke while you started to feel more embarrassed. But it was too late to back out now.
“It’s just that they get super flirty, and I’d rather not third-wheel.” You started to feel like you were pressuring him. “But don’t feel obligated! I just thought you might enjoy it. We could maybe critique the movies afterwards, like we did with Pride and Prejudice!” You rubbed the crook of your arm in embarrassment, hoping he wasn’t picking up too much on the blood rushing to your face.
Tokoyami’s grip on the book tightened as he watched you. He prayed to whatever god was listening that the ruffling of his feathers was not too noticeable. He, of all people, was being invited to marathon movies? With you? Yes, you said it was because you didn’t want to third-wheel, but at this point, Tokoyami would accept any time he could spend with you. He was becoming infatuated.
You didn’t quite expect Tokoyami’s answer. “That sounds like quite a good time, actually.” His grip tightened even more. “I hope I would not be intruding.”
You laughed at his last comment. “I don’t think it’s intruding if you’re invited, Tokoyami-kun!”
Tokoyami’s feathers ruffled once again at how you called him. He felt his breath hitch in his throat as he struggled to respond, but he didn’t have to as you kept talking.
“We won’t start for a bit, so I could text you when we’re about to start if that’s okay with you!” You beamed your smile at him, feeling a bit more confident and comfortable.
But now, it was Tokoyami’s turn to be bold.
“Actually… If you don’t mind, I would like to continue our conversation from before…” He started feeling flustered as he continued. “But, I understand if you have other engagements.”
Your cheeks heated up at his suggestion, but again, his last sentence made you giggle. “I don’t have any engagements before the movie marathon.” You let out another giggle.
Tokoyami adored the giggle as it escaped your lips. It was almost as mesmerizing as your humming earlier.
Heat continued to rush to your cheeks as you kept talking. “I’m assuming you don’t want to go back downstairs for the conversation, so…”
Tokoyami understood what you were trying to say, or rather ask, as he responds, “We can sit in my room, if you’re alright with that, that is.”
You felt your heart beat faster at his suggestion. You were just worrying about him being embarrassed by his room, but here he was inviting you in!
“Are you sure? I know last time we all saw your room you weren’t really comfortable with it…”
Tokoyami opened his door all the way to show the entirety of himself and his room. “It’s much more comfortable if it’s just one person…” He looked off to the side a bit as he considered what he wanted to say. And you’re one person I feel very comfortable with. But, he didn’t want to be too forward with you. He retreated into the room, tinted purple by his mood lighting. He took a seat on his bed as he busied himself with the cover of his book, too anxious about looking back in your direction.
You took a step into the room, getting a better look at it than you did when you first moved in. Back then, Tokoyami had stood in front of the door, trying to block anyone from seeing it. But now, he left the door open. For you.
You find your voice as you ask, “Would you like the door closed?” You asked out of respect for his privacy, but the thought of being alone with him behind closed doors was flustering.
Tokoyami glanced up at you, his eyes shining despite the minimal light. “Ah, yes, please. If you don’t mind.”
You gently closed the door behind you as you kept surveying the aesthetic of the room. “I’m surprised you don’t have a bust in here for the sake of irony.” You laughed at your comment.
“I’m not sure I follow…”
You walked towards an arrangement of books, surveying the titles, as you explained, “The Raven by Poe. I just felt you’d be the kind to find irony in it, since… you know.” You gestured towards his head.
Tokoyami felt his eyes widen and his feathers ruffle once more, hoping the darkness hid the ruffling enough. You knew Poe? He was so pleasantly surprised that he couldn’t comment on your suggestion of a bust.
“I was not aware that you knew Poe.” He took a moment to think. “Though, I probably shouldn’t be surprised. His works are classics themselves.”
“I’d like to think I’m well-read anyways…” You took a seat in Tokoyami’s desk chair that seemed more like a throne than anything else. “Favorite work from him?”
Tokoyami was caught off guard by the question. He didn’t expect you to be so interested in his own interests. He took a hand from his book and held a finger under his beak in thought. No one had ever asked his favorite work by Poe, so he had never had to consider it before. But after a few moments to mull it over, he responds, “The Masque of the Red Death.”
You were surprised by this, but didn’t know why. Maybe you just expected something different. You pulled your feet up onto the chair to hug your knees. “Any particular reason?”
Tokoyami took a breath, keeping his eyes trained on the book in his hands before explaining. “Many that Poe loved were taken by disease. I think he wrote it based on his own experience.” He paused and met your gaze. “Money cannot save you from something that has no use for it.”
You smiled at the philosophical statement. “Quoth the raven.”
Tokoyami closed his eyes and smiled lightly back at you. “It seems you’re not letting go of The Raven. Is that your favorite?”
You took a moment to ponder yourself, but came up with an answer quicker than Tokoyami did. “The Tell-Tale Heart.”
“Ah, yes, that one is brilliant. What is your reasoning for it?”
“Well, I think it has a pretty cool message. No matter how hard you try to hide something, you have to tell the truth eventually.” You felt this message sink into your skin as you spoke it. It sank into Tokoyami’s as well.
Tokoyami pondered the message. “He was trying to hide a murder. Do you think that applies in the real world?”
“If it didn’t apply in the real world, then how would Poe have written about it?”
That question gripped Tokoyami’s heart fiercely. He had never really had anyone to discuss literature with, but here you were, not only discussing it, but analyzing it. Applying it. He had never felt a connection stronger. It took much will power for Tokoyami to calm his heart and come back down to earth. But once he did, he came up with another idea.
“Have you ever read The Black Cat?” Tokoyami questioned you.
You tilted your head in interest. “I don’t think so, but it sounds familiar!” You beamed a smile at him again.
Tokoyami smiled back as he got up from his bed and strode over to his row of books beside you. He replaced Pride and Prejudice in its spot then reached for a book that appeared to be an anthology of all of Poe’s works. He would be the one to have all of his works on hand you thought to yourself. How cute…
He leaned back against his desk, and you got the opportunity to fully observe his side profile. Even under his baggy hoodie, you could tell his body was lean. But you also knew from training that he had toned muscle to go with it. You knew only from the few times Tokoyami pulled back his cloak. He didn’t show off his physique as many of the other boys did. He was much more… reserved.
Tokoyami leafed through the book after a quick glance at the table of contents before landing on a precise page. Upon finding it, he held the book out for you to take. Once you did, he placed his hands behind him on the surface of the desk and asked, “Does the prose look familiar to you?”
You read the first few sentences just to be sure. “It doesn’t, I must have missed this one…” You read a couple more sentences, your curiosity piquing. You looked up from the page back at him. “Now I really have to read it… Would you mind if I borrowed the book?”
Tokoyami felt his heartbeat quicken at the proposition. You wanted to borrow a book from him? He was overjoyed, feeling a smile creep onto his face. The happiness fueled another suggestion of his. “I could read it out loud, if you don’t mind. It’s my second favorite and I would like to read it again.”
A blush formed on your cheeks at his counter-proposal, though he couldn’t see it in the darkness. No one had ever read anything to you except your parents when you were a toddler. The only person who really read to you was you. But now here was Tokoyami with his soft smile, deep voice, and intellectual perspective offering to read to you. You couldn’t say no.
“I don’t mind at all!” you said almost too eagerly. You covered it up with, “You probably have the best voice for reading Poe.” You felt more embarrassed by the addition than the original agreement.
Tokoyami’s smile merely increased with the compliment. Sure, that wouldn’t be considered a compliment to most, but it meant the world to Tokoyami. It meant the world that someone else he knew shared his interests. And because of this, because of you, his anxieties were melting away.
He gently took the book back from your hands, though this time his fingers didn’t brush yours. Oh, how you wish they had. But instead, you hugged your knees closer to your chest as Tokoyami began to read. You had been right in thinking he had the best voice for reading Poe, for as he began, you felt drawn in by his voice as it mixed with the light patter of the rain. The intricate words rolled off his tongue as if they were meant to. Gradually, he lowered himself to sit on the ground to be more comfortable as he read. In turn, you closed your eyes and tilted your head to the side so that you could focus on his words. You had never felt so comfortable with someone else before. With your eyes closed, you started to pick up the aroma of the room. The air smelled of burnt and burning candles and faintly of apple pie. They made you sink further into the chair you sat upon, enveloping you just as Tokoyami’s voice was. But as Tokoyami got halfway through the short story, a ding sounded from your phone.

Favorite Benny books?
Ok so. Tumblr crashed as I was typing this on mobile. I am retyping it on desktop cause fuck this site, and I Have Opinions, and my friend I will let you hear them or so help me!
.... This got. Really. Really long. I am adding a read more to spare you guys from that.
Ok so! As a preface, I haven't read many VNAs with Benny in it, and of her solo books, I still have 2 of her Legion books to read.
I'm going to (re)start this with the VNAs!
Love and War: a very classic answer perhaps, but it is a really good introduction for Benny, even if the book has its flaws and can certainly show its age nowadays. Cornell absolutely nails her right off the bat, and from her very first page, Benny is just a character that keeps you interested. Not only does she work great as a counter to both Seven and Ace, but she also brings a breath of life to the whole range the way only a prose character can.
Plus, I think one of the greatest successes of that book lies in how Benny appears as a rounded and flawed person from the beginning. She’s not your ordinary girl dragged to a whirlwind of adventure and an universe of wonders, but an older, adult woman, with a good chunk of life experience and adventures already behind her, and while setting foot inside the TARDIS opens up a new and unexpected chapter in her life, it does also remain just that. A chapter. Benny had a life before the Doctor, and from that moment, while noone could have predicted it then, she would have one after him as well.
The Left-Handed Hummingbird: I just finished that one last week, so it’s obviously both fresh in my mind, and one I'm thinking highly of at the moment. Well I mean, it’s Orman! Or course I love it. She really is great at writing both intricate, large stories, and yet focusing on the personal, on the human side of things. And I find that this book does a great job at putting benny in the role of the grounding presence both for ace and the doctor, as well as exploring how time traveling as they do, and dealing with seven’s schemes can be frustrating for benny. That whole tardis team is a mess, and none of these people really… work well together, but it’s because they’re so dysfunctioning that they’re fascinating, and orman absolutely nails that.
Theater of War: A very different type of book, it is honestly a fun romp, and it has Benny being an actual archeologist, down to dealing with the academia side of things. And it’s the little things, but I love it when Benny books remember that about her tbh? Also, it has some nice theater theming, and well, as an introduction for brax, it certainly works well! It’s one of those VNAs that I think is just fun. A well crafted story with good takes on the characters, that’s always enjoyable to me!
Return of the Living Dad: Orman again?? What a surprise! But frankly, I love how this book is all about Benny and her daddy issues, be it with the Doctor or well, her actual dad. Between that, her budding marriage with Jason, and finding out so many old wounds reopened, I just. Really love how raw Benny can be under Orman’s pen? How underneath it all, she still has that side of the scared orphan that lost both parents to a war she was far, far too young to ever comprehend, and how that just left her rebelling against the world in general, and resenting deep down her parents for that abandon. I mean, it’s neat character stuff, but it can very easily be written as dull & cliche shitte you know? And Orman really… always get down to the heart of it all, and boi does it make for some great reading.
The Dying Days: It’s a very fun book, and well, technically works as the first round for Benny as the lead woman after all! It’s a joy all throughout, triumphant where it needs to be, and managing to both celebrate the Doctor and what he brought to the VNAs, as well as setting up the stage for Benny to go on to her own range. It’s basically one last run of the old team, and well. I do love Benny & Eight, and yes I am blaming Parkin for it. Also, big brained take to have Eight give her Wolsey because I love that cat and Benny deserves a cute kitty in her life. We all do.
Ok!! Now on to the NA, and my personal favorite era!
Dragon’s Wrath: It’s a fun one!! I do really like the story being centered again on archeology first and foremost, and it’s a good romp that has some really good take on Benny. Especially the trial scenes, I love how those one get down to Benny as someone who despite everything, loves history, and cares very very deeply about the artifacts she uncovers. Also, it introduces brax as a mainstay of the dellah era, and does so in a rather nice way. Overall, a very enjoyable book!
Beyond the Sun: Benny & students stranded on a planet with mystery to uncover, that’s already a fun premise, and then throw in all the various queer themes present, especially with Emile, and the whole scene of them all in drag performing on top of a bus, and it’s just a rather good book. Plus, I love how it mirrors the whole VNA Doctor mantra, except with a very Benny twist. Sometimes cruel, sometimes cowardly, but trying her damndest to do good. And well, that’s just Benny isn’t it? I always harp on about the very heart of Benny being her humanity, and if there’s something that book highlights, it’s that.
Deadfall: Jason takes center stage in this one, and well, I do really love Jason. It’s overall a fun book with some nice lore ideas, and I love how it works Cwej in the whole Dellah setting. Also, at least it’s a story with Jason in the lead that doesn’t end in utter tragedy, and that’s always nice!
Tempest: Ok so. That book isn’t great. The story’s cliche, the characters aren’t the best, and the plot itself? Forgettable, it’s another in the list of “sort of base under siege story in the dellah era” which you’d think wouldn’t be super common and yet! So… why am I listing it here? Cause the concept of the planet!! The idea of a world of storms and disaster, run through via a blind train as the only means of transport? The fantastic animal life described in it??? That book left an impression of me, and that’s not something I can say of all of the others.
The Medusa Effect: … Justin Richard writes a good Benny. Like, legit. I love how that one really works with the setting & history of Dellah, and gives further information on the planet’s involvement with the Dalek war. Plus, it also got some really, really nice aesthetics. I am soft for good aesthetics ok? Benny, dancing with a skeleton on the deck of an old spaceship made to look like a cruise liner in an hallucination/dream sequence type of thing? Sign me right up!
Beige Planet Mars: That one is a blast. I remember just, absolutely loving it when I read it tbh. Between the overall description of Mars, the further Lore Implication of the Mars invasion & all that, as well as it basically being one last round of more… Normal dellah books before everything goes to hell? It’s one i’d highly recommend if you want to have a good time.
Tears of the Oracle: Probably my favorite of that whole range? (apart from dead romance, which I am not counting as a benny book) I love just, how much overall… feelings isn’t quite the words i’m looking for, but i can’t think of a better way to put it… there is throughout the book? It was thought to be the end of the NA as it was written and well, that shows. I love how it weaves the whole mystery of “what happened to that legendary archaeologists?” with the whole side of what’s basically some of the only survivors from dellah going on one last round of discovery. The status quo of the range was destroyed quite a few books before that one, but imo, it’s there that they take the time to stop for a bit, and just. Deals with what that means in actuality. And ngl, I love the entire sequence of Benny & Brax walking through the wreckage of what used to be their home, it’s a scene that works really, really well.
And well, it does a great job at setting up the future as well after all! Yes, there’s still 3 books after it, but when you look at where Big Finish picked up… they went for what Tears of the Oracle was setting up. It really makes the transition flows well between those two, unlike my rambling for a full paragraph before going to “here’s the BF books I like”
The Doomsday Manuscript: A very good start for the range! Not only does it set up the whole collection, but it also introduces the Fifth Axis as a major threat, and does so in a wonderfully well paced book that keeps you hooked throughout. I like how it also sets up Jason’s loss as something Benny is still suffering over, as well as how she hasn’t lost hope in finding him again. Plus frankly, it’s also a really good story.
The Glass Prison: You’d think that for a book where Benny spends the majority of it in prison and not very active due to being near the end of her pregnancy, not much would happen, but the way Jacqueline Rayner builds up an atmosphere of unease, mistrust and a genuine disturbing ambiance throughout the book is just, fantastic.
Genius Loci: This book. This book!!! Ben Aaronovitch writes an absolutely powerful story of Benny as a young woman, lost and finding herself faced with far more responsibility than she ever thought possible. The way he writes the whole mystery, while also making Benny as a 20yo not only believable, but quite distinct from Benny as the adult we’ve all come to know and love is just. So good. My main grip with this book is how abruptly it ends, and how we’ll never get the sequel. I want to read Terra Incognita and more of Benny slowly finding herself damn it!
Dead Men Diaries: Just like Doomsday Manuscript, does a great job at establishing the collection as well as the recurring cast. I really enjoy most of the stories in it, and I think BF started out so strong on those books srsly!
A Life in Pieces: I love it so much. It’s pure brax at his most manipulative, and for such petty reasons. I really like how it both deals with the aftermath of the Fifth Axis occupation, as well as the repercussions Brax’s schemes have for the people living on the collection. Also, it’s just 3 very good novellas in a row that build up to something more, and I always like seeing that.
Nobody’s Children: That book has the best Draconian story in the entirety of doctor who and related. Like, yeah just that. It’s also nice to see the fallout of the Mim/Draconian war. It’s one I didn’t expect a lot out of, and frankly, I ended up really loving it.
The Vampire Curse: The middle novella is one I absolutely hated, but the other two are really good, and mixing benny and vampires is just, very fun. Also!! Predating the Predator is in it, and it is a really good take on vampires in a science fiction setting that also has some nice creep factor as well, and manages to be both a good vampire story, and a good sci fi story, which isn’t always an easy balance to find.
Life During Wartime: It’s a surprisingly hard hitting anthology about living under a fascist regime, and the compromises you have to make, the personal sacrifices and small rebellions. Honestly, there’s a lot I love about it, but certainly one of my favorite moment, is when Benny, having to dine with one of the officers, miss jones & jason, sees that the officer is nearly on to her hiding peter away, and that split second moment of “if I have to, I am willing to kill everyone in this room to protect my son” before he just laughs it off, it’s a lot of tiny moments that build up to a really well done ambiance tbh.
Something Changed: While it did the terrible, terrible sin of introducing Doggles to the world, I really love the concept of every chapter after the first being a different split universe, and how they’re all spiraling more & more out of control. It’s got some really good stories in between too, though they can also be rather hit & miss. An aspect I love about it too is how impactful Wolsey’s death ends up being.
Present Danger: That one is fun, I love how it’s basically everyone vs the deindum, a situation slipping more and more out of control, mixed with some neat stuff one the deindum’s whole temporal deal. It’s again a bit hit & miss, but it’s still a blast, and as the last anthology of the collection era, it does send it all off with a bang.
Welp. Far, far too many words later, and here we are!!! I love Benny a lot ngl, and I genuinely think that prose is the medium best suited for her. I have been rather disappointed with the more modern books, I find them far more bland than what I personally expect from Benny but ah well. Can’t always get everything.
And while it’s neither a book, nor even an official story in any mean, the fanfic “Sepelio” that’s an Hannibal au set in the Dellah era is great, and the benny story I have been enjoying the most lately. I would be remiss not to at least mention it!

What are everyone’s teams in your Pokemon au? Do you have a plot set out or is it a more causal au?

You'd better fucking BELIEVE we have a plot set up, I have poured so much effort into the Pokemon au
Okay, so: when it comes to teams, I decided that everyone should have at least one legendary Pokemon in their party as a way to be faithful to the ace monster concept, but it wasn’t until much later into the au that I realized I’d failed to do that with Sora’s team, which led to a very fun plot point involving his secret 7th Pokemon he keeps in his box
Teams under the cut because it’s gonna be a long one, boys
Yuya has: Groudon, Sandshrew, Popplio, Hippopotas, Aipom, and Ekans
In his box, he’s got Phanphy, Charmander, Politoad, Ducklett, Liepard, Skorupi, and Lycanroc (Midnight form)
I wanted him to have as many Pokemon as he could that reminded me of the monsters in his deck, and since Yuya is a coordinator in this au instead of a regular trainer, it just felt right that he’d have a lot of different partners he could swap out for various contests
Also I’m mad that there isn’t a legendary dragon that looks like Odd Eyes, so I had to give Yuya Groudon instead, making him the only Yu boy in this au to not have a legendary dragon type Pokemon
Yuto has: Eternatus, Bisharp, Aegislash, Aggron, Lucario, and Shadow Rider Calyrex
Okay listen, I know I was supposed to only give everyone One legendary Pokemon, but with Calyrex I feel justified because it looks So Much like it could be one of Yuto’s Phantom Knights, I mean

Yuto gets to have two legendaries to make up for Arc-V killing him off so early into the show
Aside from this guy, the rest of Yuto’s team just felt like it should be comprised of steel types ow the edge so that’s what I gave him. His Pokemon are as edgy as he tries to appear to be and that is enough to amuse me.
There also weren’t exactly many good Pokemon equivalents of his archetype, so I made do with what I had.
Yugo has: Latios, Scizor, Claydol, Porygon 2, Ponyta (Shiny), and Sudowoodo
Yugo was honestly so hard to come up with a team for because all his Speedroid cards are just like... toys and stuff for the most part, so I agonized over what I should pick for him for a Long time. In the end, I feel like I got close enough to his general aesthetic with the Pokemon I picked.
(His Ponyta is there because of Speedroid Horse Stilts, and while it is a shiny, the dumbass has no idea about it, and thinks he just happened to get a special blue horse that was born a little differently- he never claimed to be smart.)
He also deadass thought Sudowoodo was a grass type for the longest time. Rin had to be the one to tell him it wasn’t.
“Yugo. Sudowoodo? It sounds like pseudo? As in fake wood?”
“Ohhhhh is that what its name means? Wow Rin you’re so smart.”
No Yugo you’re just exceptionally stupid.
Yuri has: Naganadel, Seviper, Victreebel, Toxicroak, Vileplume, and Roserade
For the most toxic of battlers, I felt it only necessary to give Yuri an all poison type team. I included an even mix of plants in there to tie into his Predaplant deck, Seviper for the snake eye vibes, and Toxicroak... just feels right, you know. I couldn’t find any other poison plant themed Pokemon that seemed like they’d fit his vibe, so he gets a poison frog instead.
Yuzu has: Meloetta, Sylveon, Meowstic (Female), Gardevoir, Florges, and Jigglypuff
I tried to stick with Pokemon that had very feminine vibes for Yuzu, since her deck is comprised of pretty singing ladies, so Meloetta and Jigglypuff in particular feel very fitting in that regard.
Serena has: Cresselia, Delcatty, Glameow, Lopunny, Persian, and Pyroar (Female)
The moon vibes with Cresselia felt perfect for Serena, and as for the rest of her team, all cats and a bunny to pay homage to her Lunalight deck ^^
Rin has: Celesteela, Mismagius, Hatterene, Glaceon, Froslass, and Chimecho
Her team vibes with the witch part of her Wind Witch deck, at least for Mismagius and Hatterene. Glaceon, Froslass, and Chimecho are there due to the etymology of her name, where possible meanings of it include “cold” and “bell”, which I thought was pretty cool, no pun intended.
Ruri has: Galarian Articuno, Pidgeot, Noctowl, Chatot, Altaria, and Unfezant (Male)
Some softer birds for the soft bird girl, for the most part. I liked the thought of her team being all birds like her Lyriluscs, and just... yeah. They’re all very friendly birds that Ruri’s bonded pretty closely with. Also I made sure she had Galarian Articuno for no reason other than it is purple like her, and I think that’s all the reason I need.
Gong has: Kartana, Machoke, Samurott, Golisopod, Hariyama, and Conkeldurr
Gong was really easy to assign a team to- just had to find as many samurai themed Pokemon as possible, and fill in the rest with really strong fighting types, like Machoke, Hariyama, and Conkeldurr.
Shingo has: Type: Null, Dusclops, Misdreavus, Spiritomb, Decidueye, and Cramorant
With Shingo, I tried to go for Pokemon that had the same vibes as some of his Abyss Actors, and I think Dusclops is the best example of this. Tbh I am very proud of giving him a Type: Null because Type: Null is an amalgamation of other Pokemon, something that was created in a lab to be a fighting machine. There’s nothing natural about Type: Null, and it’s kind of terrifying to Yuya specifically, who’s always viewed Pokemon as creatures to befriend. This experiment created purely to kill... unnerves him, and serves as a very good foil to his beliefs when it comes to Pokemon.
And they were narrative foils

On a sillier note, I chose Cramorant purely because of this quote from its bulbapedia page: “Cramorant are also rather unintelligent as they can't remember which Pokémon they fight in mid battle, but never forget Trainers that they trust. However, they try to attack their Trainers if they steal food from them.”
I just thought the idea of Shingo having this dumb bird that occasionally pecks at him over food would be funny tbh, gotta dunk on the rival at least a little bit.
Sora has: Banette, Vanillish, Swirlix, Stufful, Litleo, and Buneary
In his box, he has a Guzzlord
I feel like Sora’s team is very straightforward, as it’s a mix of sweets themed Pokemon, and Pokemon that represent monsters in his deck- Stufful for Flufflal Bear, Litleo for Fluffal Leo, and Buneary for Fluffal Rabbit. Guzzlord... is relevant later on in the plot after shit goes down, that’s all I’ll say for now.
Masumi has: Diancie, Sableye, Corsola, Aurorus, Tyranitar, and Lycanroc (Dusk form)
Gem Knight girl deserved to have a bunch of good rock type Pokemon, and Diancie is like. The best possible legendary I could have given someone like her lol, the crystal aesthetic is just perfect for her. Not much to say here honestly, I just really vibed with these specific rock types and thought they’d make a good team for her.
Yaiba has: Zeraora, Kecleon, Pangoro, Scyther, Purugly, and Stantler
So I actually threw this list together just now because I realized Masumi was the only member of her trio to have a full team, and that just wasn’t right. I tried to base this team off the XX-Sabers as well I could, but it was a little hard with how many humanoid cards Yaiba has. With his legendary, I actually chose it based off this monster right here!
I think they’ve got similar enough vibes aesthetically for Zeraora to fit him. Scyther is based on Emmersblade, Kecleon on Ragigura, Stantler on Garsem, Purugly on Gardestrike, and Pangoro... Honestly, it just makes me think of Yaiba himself when I look at him. I think they’d get along well.
Hokuto has: Deoxys, Espeon, Grumpig, Starmie, Lunatone, and Malamar
Psychic type Pokemon just sort of felt right for him to have, considering that his deck is based on constellations and has an overall space theme to it. Not sure why that translates over to psychic in my brain, but you know what, it looks right, I love this team for him, and I’m not gonna question it.
I especially think Deoxys makes a good legendary for him considering it is literally a space alien, and Hokuto’s whole thing is space, so yeah, he gets to have the space alien.
Shun has: Galarian Moltres, Skarmory, Fearow, Dodrio, Staraptor, and Talonflame
Pretty straightforward team I feel- it’s all birds of prey for the Raid Raptor boy, and I just thought the Galarian version of Moltres was neat. Makes me think of his Blaze Falcon since they’re both black and red.
Dennis has: Hoopa, Mr. Mime, Delphox, Zoroark, Alakazam, and Hawlucha
Hoopa seemed like a very good legendary for Dennis to have, given his deck archetype and all, he just kind of looks like a little circus dude. Its unbound form makes me think about the swap Dennis has when it gets revealed that he’s actually been a double agent the whole time, and the play gloves finally come off.
The rest of his team... I feel like they speak for themselves. I tried to give him Pokemon that matched up with his deck archetype, so there’s Delphox to rep the fire themed monsters, Mr. Mime because it just fits Dennis’ general personality- and I love the thought of those two being friends and just copying each other’s theatric poses. Chaotic dynamic duo.
(Also: Zoroark's ability letting it disguise itself as another Pokemon is just another parallel to Dennis pretending to be one of the good guys at first, and I love it)
Shinji has: Buzzwole, Beedrill, Vespiquen, Ribombee, Kricketune, and Leavanny
I tried to give the bee man all the bees I could, but there are only so many bee Pokemon out there 😔 I knew the rest of his team had to be insect types to make up for it, so I picked Kricketune because he is just... a friend... a musical buddy who definitely gets along well with the kids. Leavanny is just a bug mom who also helps patch up the kids’ clothing when they get tears in them, which I just love the idea of. Sweet bug mom whose dex entry talks about how they sew for other Pokemon looks after her trainer’s kids when she’s not battling.

Crow has: Murkrow, Braviary, Starly, Swellow, Pikipek, and Corviknight
Bunch of birds for my Blackwing user... This team was partially picked out by June, and it was mostly meant for the Other Pokemon au, but I don’t really see a reason to change his team here. Crow is the one person without a legendary on his team, which makes me sad, but there really isn’t a legendary bird out there that fits his vibes, so as much as I wanna give him a legendary, he will have to make do without one. Sorry Crow.
Hoo... that’s finally all the teams down. Now I can talk about the plot! So, as I briefly mentioned in a previous post (I think), this particular au is inspired by Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum! It’s the era where contests really became a big thing, which is perfect for a lot of these characters because it’s easy to translate dueltaining over to coordinating in this world. Much like in canon, Yuya aspires to be as great a coordinator as his dad was, and strives to entertain people the way Yusho could. He’s not much for battling, and far prefers getting to show off his Pokemon’s talents in contests than anything.
Academia is going to play the role of Team Galactic in this au, which is incredibly fitting with their mission in canon: to remake the universe in their leader’s image. In this case, with Leo Akaba taking on the role of Cyrus, his intent is, presumably, to either destroy the universe that took his daughter from him, or create a new one where she can live once again, no matter the cost.
Sora being a key member in Team Galactic is a very big part of the plot in this au: his mission was to capture one of the lake legendaries, Uxie, since Leo needed all three of them for his plan to remake the universe, but things don’t exactly go well for him, and he ends up losing his battle against Uxie, resulting in all of his memories being locked away, and essentially making him a blank slate.
Side note: the Galactic grunt haircut reminds me a lot of Sora, I mean just look at it
Practically same bangs as him, just add an upturned ponytail and you’ve got my son.
This post is getting very long... but I will add one last plot related thing to it before I go: Uxie can erase memories, Mesprit can erase emotions, and Azelf can erase willpower. All three of these lake legendaries play a very important role in the plot, due to being the keys to Leo Akaba’s plans to remake the universe. Sora was touched by Uxie, effectively doing away with all memory he has of being in Team Galactic. Yuya ends up touched by Mesprit in an attempt to save them, and subsequently loses his emotions as a result. Riley?
Riley had been affected by all three of them before the plot began, which is why she is the way she’d been in Arc-V: Emotionless, unable to remember anything about her past except for those brief, fleeting flashes of memory when put into certain situations she’d experienced before, and without any will of her own. She’s so dependent on her older brother because she quite literally has no clue what to do with herself without being told to, and needs orders to function.
