Alright, now I'm gonna get around to talking about the problem with Jason's costume redesign in rhato. Let's start with this panel:
Tumblr media
So going by this, even as Robin Jason would have been slightly disillusioned with the costuming and role-playing that came with vigilantism.
Having been beaten bloody and killed in an explosion by one of those dressed-up sickos, I believe Jason isn't all too fond anymore of the whole schtick. His "costume", if it even can be called that, upon his return is entirely pragmatic. Just like Jason himself. Simple leather jacket, black pants, boots. Nothing stands out about his clothes, there's just the helmet.
I think that Jason, both as a character who is close to seeing the fourth wall and a in-story disillusioned character, would be sick of the "game" of dress-up.
Costumes are for flair, they're a trademark to us, the readers, and to the characters in the story. Hence why Batman is Bruce Wayne, sure, but if someone else puts on the cowl they can become Batman to (more or less).
But Jason isn't about that. He doesn't care to instill fear in enemies and become a symbol of justice, he wants to bring absolute ends to injustices. Again, here's a panel for that:
Tumblr media
The only reason to give yourself a distinct look/costume, is in order to become a symbol, but Jason doesn't subscribe to that school of thought. No, he believes in immediate actions leading to immediate effects.
So the costume redesign makes no sense for Jason's character since it 1) would make him part of the game of dress-up cat-and-mouse that vigilantes and villains play. 2) doesn't suit his pragmatic view of effective justice. And finally 3) doesn't suit his pragmatic and rational nature in general.
Ultimately, a costume design that would be in-character for Jason to wear isn't flashy, doesn't have unnecessary elements and colors and isn't distinctice or trademark-ey in any way.
Click here for my opinion on Jason's helmet that no one asked for either.

There have been a couple of posts making the rounds about Cheum and her role in Only friends. And this prompted me to share my thoughts on the character of Cheum.
So since there is lot that I've been thinking about regarding ofts but not really sharing, I thought why not. Now would be a good opportunity to attempt to write some coherent thoughts.
One of the biggest things that that's been constantly on my mind about the series is the trailer. Because I'm absolutely obsessed with how the trailer is influencing our read of these characters. I believe this is specially true for the character of Top. But going back to Cheum. So the only thing she says in the trailer is the quote "friends don't do this to each other". And our brains collectively assigned her role of being the moral one. The voice of reason. But in watching the show before that episode, if I'd never watched the trailer, I don't think I'd see her in that light. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. Maybe if that wasn't the case she would (for me) just be the annoying, judgemental friend that happens to be a queer woman. But also, if I wasn't told she was important from the first episode when she is introduced as part of the main group, I honestly wouldn't think of her at all. Because the narrative isn't treating her like she's important. She has so little influence on any of the main story points, and when she does it's someone else's drama that brings her around. Be it Mew, or Ray or Atom. Her brother had more influence on the overall story and the other characters than she did. And when she does get caught in the middle, she does her thing, which is judge everybody, and quickly exits. And we get no window into her thought process and no consequences for her actions. Because she's obviously not that important. So I don't think that Jojo and company are trying to tell us anything about queer women or women in general. She is simply a flat character with a very specific role in the narrative regardless of gender or sexual orientation. I don't know if she's suppose to be the narrator or if I'm suppose to see the other characters through her eyes. If it is, then in my case it's failing, and if it it isn't then the fact that she's a women I think it's irrelevant and she's just another character without much depth.
I'm gonna reserve full judgement until after the finale, but there's only so much they can do to the character in 50 minutes with that whole ensemble of characters. So I think in the end her character will not leave a lasting impression on me. Of course I have my own biases regarding female characters but that's for another day, maybe... (this was the post that prompted this one so thank you @waitmyturtles for giving the chance to write some things)

i will maintain forever that the best part of MHA was back in the beginning when deku had to break his arms every time he wanted to use his powers. yes i know that wasn't sustainable i just liked him being a little batshit about it.

Opinions no one asked for #036
I wish madoka magica wasn't so shit. Like, before we're introduced to all the death, I absolutely love all the characters. Even after that, I love seeing their actual love and passion for life. But the ending is absolutely not worth the watch.
Spoilers
See, we're forced to watch all of them but Homura die over and over. While Homura resets time to try and save just Madoka. Resulting in some compounded fuckery. In the end Madoka uses her wish to fix everything, but she no longer exists as a human in the process. Basically becoming god, and taking care of all the dead magical girls.
Frankly, that ending is fine. I still don't think it's quite worth all the bullshit they go through, but at least everyone has a happy ending.
The third movie however fucks this up, by dragging them all to a pocket dimension and ending with Homura becoming a demon after some more death and torture, just for her to go all stalker and trap madoka and everyone else in a dream state.
Now, I don't know if the newest movie fixed that, I don't have the patience to rewatch everything to watch it.
But I'm angry at the ending that we've had for so long. It basically made the entire series pointless. They just go back to the start to do it all over again. And I hate it. Those characters are so sweet, and their relationships are so wholesome, and they just deserve better damn it.
I genuinely like madoka, I like her friends, and I used to like Homura. But I can't be asked to sit through the torture just to see their happiness get ripped away again. I want to see them happy, and passionate for life. But I can't because people would rather watch these poor girls get ripped apart over and over and over again.

every so often I’m reminded of how much i hate that at least semi-serious “arvis did nothing wrong” video that decided to pin his many wrongs (along with manfroy’s for good measure) onto cigyun. so everything bad that happens is the fault of a woman choosing to exercise some agency over her life and sexuality instead of just doing what she was told. wow how novel and insightful. if only that sinful woman hadn’t dared to escape confinement or seek some joy with someone other than her violent abusive husband. clearly she was just stupid and immoral unlike our poor men who had no alternative but to do what they did.

Opinions on the drdt Characters
Warning: spoilers
Teruko Tawaki
Vibe: CH1 Teruko is a vibe. CH2 Teruko is going to stab before the Vibe even begins. I still would want to be there for her.
Other: I understand where you’re coming from, but calm down. 10/10, love her character and the role she plays.
Extra: Fights for the brain cell.
Xander Matthews
Mood: Just wanting to make the world a better place.
Vibe: Perhaps we could be friends. Seems like a neat guy… except for the stab part.
Other: What the f, dude. Who hurt you? Want to talk about this before you commit a crime? No? Okay...
Charles Cuevas
Vibe: Pulling a ‘Whit’ on him would do the trick… or showering him with compliments. Both would work. Maybe. I would probably bother him with questions about chemistry, because I'm too lazy to buy a proper book.
Other: Nerd! 10/10, I normally don't like the tsundere, but eh. The Nerd gets a pass.
Extra: Fights with Teruko for the brain cell.
Ace Markey
Vibe: idk, I think he's funny. ...until he started bothering Nico.
Other: Ace, do you need someone to talk to?
Arei Nageishi
Vibe: We probably would not be friends. After she wants to change, I would give her a chance.
Other: You definitely need someone to talk to.
Rose Lacroix
Vibe: She is super relaxed. Just being in her presence is enough to bond with her and that’s great! I don't always need to talk. Just sitting with someone in the same room is enough for me.
Other: Please get a healthy sleeping schedule…
Hu Jing
Vibe: She seems kind? I'm not sure what to make of her.
Other: You do need someone to talk to, don’t you?
Eden Tobisa
Vibe: Super nice and very likable. Maybe a bit too much at times, but if you tell her to slow it down, she probably would.
Other: Do you need a break from carrying everyone's mental stability? 10/10.
Extra: Please, don’t be the mastermind. Please, don’t be the mastermind. Please, don’t be the master-
Levi Fontana
Vibe: He seems nice………………………………. For now. He's sus.
Other: He be slay… serving. I like his style. Would be bad if not.
Arturo Giles
Vibe: We would not be friends and the feeling is mutual.
Other: Not 100% dislikeable, but please stay away.
Min Jeung
Vibe: I don't dislike her, but probably would not be friends with her either. I'm very neutral about her.
Other: Please, do not forget to take a break, girl. You’re worrying me.
David Chiem
Vibe: Before Ch2 Ep11 we'd be just getting along, after Ch2 Ep11... idk. I would probably pull a very terrible Veronica from the distance.
Other: Well, aren’t you a funky little guy? Got some trauma you wanna talk about?
Veronika Grebenshchikova
Mood: The passion be real.
Vibe: I'm a sucker for horror stories, but there would be a need for therapy after. (Maybe not from her, though.) I'm not watching "Red Flags" with her.
Other: Honestly, there is nothing to dislike about her personally, but we can reach an agreement that Teruko did the right thing. Still 10/10 character. She's funny.
J Rosales
Vibe: She seems funny, although a little tsunderish, but there is a way around it.
Other: Glad not to have a mother like you. Again, not a fan of the tsuns, but she would be fine in doses.
Whit Young
Mood: I absolutely do make too many jokes during inappropriate times. (Thankfully most stay within the confinement of my head.)
Vibe: Super wholesome and always there for puns. I can see myself hanging out with him a lot.
Other: A friend everyone needs. 10/10 character, especially since he genuinely wants to help everyone around him.
Nico Hakobyan
Mood: Not me during a party looking for the next animal to spend the rest of the evening with… >.>
Vibe: Look, two awkward people are less awkward together. Speaking from experience.
Other: Perhaps the pet therapist needs therapy themself…
MonoTV
Vibe: Funny, but at what cost?
Other: I would adopt you… but at what cost?

Finally got around to watching the second season of Yellowjackets. I'm still processing it but I do hope in the end there's not really a supernatural element to it: there doesn't have to be for the story to end satisfyingly.
Shauna's line seems like the throw-away of the very next victim of a standard supernatural horror film (the Darkness being them; that it's inside them because they're fucked up people who did fucked up things) but it'd be nice, I think, for that to be the overall truth and the seeming supernatural stuff actually having mundane explanations that wouldn't be seen (or knowable) to kids still in high school strung out on starvation. It's like how religion started (probably): a series of coincidences that proved useful to survival getting meaning imparted upon them
I would love for the "symbol" to just be some mundane cave marker or whatever that the girls gave a higher meaning to. Weird shit happens all the time, but that doesn't mean it has to be supernatural in origin.
These girls all have horrifying levels of PTSD (and mental illness apparently). If people can return from war all fucked up from their experiences, why can't the (why did no real town in New Jersey volunteer to be associated with this show) Wiyasocki Yellowjackets girls' soccer team also be that.
I don't know. It would just feel like a cop-out to make it have actual supernatural elements instead of just implied ones which, under more rational circumstances, would naturally be interpreted more mundanely
I think of Tolkien complaining in one of his letters about a BBC broadcast mischaracterizing his work, referring to Willowman as an ally of Mordor. His exact quote being, "Cannot people imagine things hostile to men and hobbits who prey on them without being in league with the Devil!"
Alright, I'm done talking out my ass now

Lightyear Was Ok
I’ve loved Toy story since I was old enough to walk, and Buzz Lightyear was my first favorite character, so hearing he was getting a standalone movie for the big screen made my inner child perk up at the idea, but my cynical older half had a lot of reservations with how Disney would handle it, which sadly I was correct for having. These are some of my thoughts.
*SPOILERS*
Pros:
-Great visual effects you’d expected from Pixar. Very nice lighting/texturing as per usual.
-As odd as it is to not hear Tim Allen as Buzz, Chris Evans’ take grew on me with time, getting certain mannerisms and inflections that still feel like the character. Not as jarring as I expected, thankfully.
-Sox was still enjoyable despite my reservations for side characters such as this that are typically conceptualized mainly for merchandising/marketing.
-Giving Buzz added depth of not only trusting others by not always making himself the lone hero, but admitting fault helps him feel real and humble to counteract the larger-than-life space hero we’ve known him as. In a movie meant to humanize the toy, that’s what you’d want them to aim for. Seeing Buzz both in and out of his element, showcasing his strengths and weaknesses feels familiar but new in some of the right ways.
-VERY good attention to minor details and subtle nods to the toy Buzz and the loose lore he’d rattle off. Seeing things like “Terilium Carbonic Alloy” and of course crystallic fusion referenced is so neat. Certain lines pulled from the first Toy Story doesn’t feel nearly as forced as they could’ve been, and thankfully are spaced out enough. It’s also interesting to see them pull influence from Buzz’s initial concept art from the first movie that make their way into separate suit designs.
-The film does a good job at making Zurg a visually imposing villain. While his design overhaul is jarring, the physicality and added tech is a treat.
Cons:
-The film feels a tad too muted, lacking the vibrancy and stylization of the retro future/atomic age the toy and even the show has as an aesthetic. It might make sense to make the film feel closer to something akin to Star Wars, but it takes away what could be a more interesting visually-appealing movie.
-The pacing is a bit too quick during pertinent, emotional moments between characters primarily during the middle of the movie.
-Certain side characters and generally a bit of the humor felt a bit too dull.
-While Zurg’s presence is done well, his big reveal/motivation is more confusing than it is surprising. By trying to subvert expectations of the obvious Darth Vader reference made in TS2, they’ve instead made it where two Buzz’s exist and it’s not as compelling. Buzz 2 then miraculously stumbles upon a random alien ship with a menacing mech suit at his disposal. The time alone makes sense for him to be more selfish/jaded than the Buzz we follow, but nothing necessarily fits the power-hungry “Evil Emperor” title for Zurg.
It could have been much more interesting had they played into the “Buzz’s Father” idea, going about in different ways like:
•Buzz’s Father was an Ex-Star Command captain fueled by the (what he assumes to be) loss of his son after the initial test flight and blaming Star Command for its failure, setting off to find him in space. The mech suit could’ve been used to to keep him alive to catch up with Buzz during dilations and the robots made to help search for Buzz.
Or
•Buzz’s father was once one of the greatest Space Rangers that vanished in deep space during a mission, but presumed to be killed by alien robots from his last transmission. Thought to be long-since dead, Buzz discovers his Father was assimilated by a tech-based hive mind akin to the Borg from Star Trek, warping his mind and making him vengeful towards Star Command for never rescuing him.
These ideas might sideline the Hawthorne character and/or the “marooned on an alien planet“ plot line, but it’d at least give credence to the lore the toys themselves referenced instead of leaving it as a (now nonsensical) Star Wars reference. Feels like loose lore they disregarded in favor of doing the weird “Big Twist” Disney movies have a compulsive urge to put in their movies now. Your audience being able to pick up your reveal before you make it doesn’t always signify bad writing, if anything it’s properly constructed and in this case just answering questions the Toy Story movies posed.
-The ending felt very rushed. There’s no repercussions to Buzz’s actions unlike his alternate-self, and is instead randomly gifted the chance to create a new faction of the Space Rangers to fight evil in the universe, when the really the only example of that was Zurg. It feels like they were more-so banking on the fact they’ll have more opportunities to expand and improve upon on this in a sequel rather than make their initial movie good, which is disappointing.
Conclusion:
All in all for a spin-off origin story expanding upon loose lore somewhat parodying and heavily influenced by Star Wars and the like, it makes for a fun romp and is nice to see this character on the big screen again in a new context. I did find myself grinning in childlike wonderment at certain parts, but I do feel as though it could’ve been better since the crew did seem very passionate about making the film.
Once they make the inevitable sequel, my only hope is they’d improve upon this and learn what worked and what didn’t. I really just want the best for a character that meant a lot to me growing up.

I watched the first 3 episodes of Modern Family and I like it so far but I’m really hoping the Phil character gets better as the show goes on. The clueless sitcom husband/father trope is beyond tiring.

Look I understand why people like to pair Galadriel up with other people, I really do. This is genuinely not any kind of admonishment - God knows I've shipped plenty of weird things.
But IDK, I've always found the way Tolkien elves have literal soulmates kinda cute?
I guess I just wish more people, instead of deciding that Celeborn is boring and ignoring him, took the time to write about why he and Galadriel are the perfect match for each other.

WHY
why does Hollywood have a habit of making hybrid characters human but fangs or human but pointed ears or human but strange eye color, like most media where hybrids are possible have guidelines. But there is a difference between human with quarks and hybrid!
thank you for listening to my shit show opinions

one thing i’m very glad about is engage narrowly escaping the fates/3h trap of “we wrote one really good song but we’re going to make you hate it by playing samey variations of it for the entire fucking game, good luck!” the music isn’t quite as varied as i prefer, but the different nations having different sounds was good! and the final map theme is actually kind of a banger? yes it’s the main theme remixed but it changes things up enough with distinct sections, so it stays interesting to listen to and doesn’t just sound the same as the rest of the map themes (looking at you, apex of the world).

My hubby's playing Arkham City and ❤️ Two-Face content but also...
... some of it comes across as too, um, how do I put this
too thuggish? For my particular taste? Like, don't get me wrong, I love him to death, but I'm still like hMM.
I guess I just prefer a more 'extremely sick sense of Justice' Two-Face, and not really a 'blackjack and hookers' Two-Face. Like there's too much emphasis on making him act like a stereotypical mob boss, and less on ... everything else.
A+ to Catwoman for kicking him in the fucking dick though thank you sis.
