For requests. Option 1. I am SO curious to know how heroshade/golden wolf would look in your style (you are so surprised I’m asking for this)
Option 2: WINDWAKER GANONDORF????????
love heros-shade-fanclub
Tumblr media
hi lovely . i thought too hard about him and got sick here are my design notes v
recently found out the chestplate design is meant to be a wolf . i thought it was a weird owl or a little mouse (???) so i made it kinda clearer & also golden wolf theeeeme ^.^
i think this was very much show armour over actual practical battle armour . like he used it for tournaments or meetings or being paraded around in general
changed his helmet bc i think its silly (i love it) but i based it off of king dodongos horns ^.^ i think he goes back and defeats it (afaik it was the only young link boss that wasnt sent out by ganon? i am not fact checking this) which earns him a position as a knight of hyrule & he works his way up the chain from there
power gauntlets from oot . heh 😏
made his missing eye cracked bc maybe he died from a blow there . in the lost woods of course so he gets stalfosed but still
IDKKKKK IDKKKKKKK HE MAKES ME SICK. AUUUGH

I feel like what makes people call ToTK’s Ganondorf “the evilest” is because of his presentation and his bullshit literally just being the style of evil this man committed in OoT combined with BoTW mechanics. Also the goron opioid crisis might’ve contributed to that.
Aside from that OoT Ganondorf, while a complete bastard in comparison to the others, has some more human elements (having a hobby and having moms like Kotake and Koume) which keep him from being cartoonishly evil. The man may have conquered a kingdom, but you can at least never deny that he WAS a man out for power.
hope this explains stuff
That is pretty much the argument I made for TotK Ganondorf appearing to be more evil. We just don't know much about him apart from his desire to see the world destroyed, and that goal in itself seems very nonsensical for what we do know about him.The lore says that Ganondorf has deep seated hatred and bottomless ambition but what is the cause of those feelings? The only thing we see is that Ganondorf is incredibly pissed that Rauru sought to exert control over him with this oath of fealty and that he has an artefact that Ganondorf is jealous of which fine, envy can turn ugly. However, once he becomes Demon King his actions are so extreme that it even catches his own people off guard. The Gerudo sage alludes to this briefly when she mentions that he used to be their chief but that he "changed". So what changed, what made Ganondorf hate so deeply that upon receiving ultimate power he immediately began indiscriminately attacking everyone and burning everything to the ground? If his goal was to rule Hyrule why not simply seize power from Rauru and establish his own rule? Perhaps the people would have seen his power and simply capitulated to his demands but he didn't do that, he just went nuclear. What was he planning to do when he killed everything and left no survivors? Be a king of nothing? And also, TotK Ganondorf is an older man! So what was he doing up until this point? Was he content with ruling the Gerudo and handling skirmishes to satiate his bloodlust until Rauru came in with his idea for a new kingdom? Personally for me I find TotK Ganondorf, as you say, to be very cartoonish. His influence in the land, from spreading gloom, to gloom spawn, Phantom Ganon appearing everywhere, the descent to his lair etc. I think are all well executed in terms of feeling like a threat in terms of game mechanics, but it feels really diminished for me when I know who's behind it because like, dude why are you even doing all this? You're throwing a tantrum that has lasted thousands of years too long and for what? Just to be a pain in the ass? And that is why, for me, OoT Ganondorf in many ways feels more evil. There is so much subtext to him that really rounds out why he is Like That. When you learn that there was a civil war, that Hyrule had scientists studying the control of time, men that killed themselves to preserve that knowledge instead of sharing it with Ganondorf, that the Shadow Temple exists, that the Gerudo are regarded as an Othered people, almost seen as evil, that he has mothers and people that still respect him despite his descent into madness, that of all instruments to play he would choose an organ, that he is still a person at the end of the day...it makes his actions feel more impactful. And I mean to be honest, what comes off as more resentful? Subjugating the Gorons to a drug problem? Or cutting off the Goron food supply and placing a King Dodongo in their cave? And then saying “wait I’m not done with you just yet” , coming back to imprison them, revive an an ancient dragon that they had slain years in the past, and start feeding them to said dragon?
What is Ganondorf’s issue with the Gorons I think this merits some exploration 😂

wait wait wait, I get oot being a narrative about being forced to grow up early bc literally everything abt kokiri forest, but how is it a narrative about adults failing children? Link in particular? I'd think if anything they failed Zelda by not taking her warnings seriously so she had nobody to help her prevent it except Impa and a kid she met less than a week ago, which in the end was their ruin that Link had to deal with...oh ok that sums it up doesn't it. but I'm. Actually struggling to recall concrete, on-screen adult characters lmao.
Ok ok recap, the Deku tree didn't actually send for Link until he was Literally Dying (and given that it was too late to save him from the curse and some kokiri had noticed something wrong with the forest, he must have stuck with it WITHOUT saying anything for a while) and given that literally all the kokiri are kids he didn't have much of a choice pick. Can't remember if Darunia actually asked Link to clear the dodongo cave or if he did it on his own...but yeah the Zora king was useless—dude, don't ask the nine year old to crawl in the belly of a giant fish and GET OFF YOUR BUTT. Sage of Light was a BITCH like, shut up and don't blame the 9 yo for opening the sacred realm, ganondorf would have gotten there eventually and hurting a lot more people in the process, where the hell were you when it happened given that this is YOUR temple. And then when he was 16 most ppl wouldn't know that he's still 9 inside so I think I glazed over from there? Maybe I shouldn't have, but I get the feeling that kids come of age and are trusted with adult responsabilities earlier in their world—I mean, in wind waker Link came of age at 12.
OK that's like 4 adults who failed to deal with their own problems but I really think the Deku Tree tried his best until the curse forced his non-existent hand. Honorary mentions for useless adults include Malon's lazy father and the greedy stable hand (poor Malon) and the castle patrolling guards. And the windmill guy not checking the well after u play the song of storms bc HOLY SHIT. And whoever sealed the well in the future nor sealing the top too, are you ASKING for someone to fall down there
oh this is great. more people should come into my asks and then literally make my entire point for me

OoT Highlights #5
Hhhhhh ok let's try to finish this cavern
WHY WON'T THE BOMB GO ONTO THE LEDGE?!
I hate these little spike things
I want out of this rooooom
*grabs bomb* *throws bomb* *bomb bounces off the ledge and blows me up instead*
Tumblr media
I literally can't go anywhere else except for the way I came. Am I missing something?
I can only use the Gerudo block to go to one pillar, the bomb won't go to the ledge I'm trying to throw it towards, I can't take the bomb anywhere else. What am I supposed to do?
I'm just gonna Google it.
I HAVE BEEN DOING THAT
Whatever. Let's just try it again.
Don't climb onto the block! Grab the block! Grab it and slide it!
This dungeon it making me very angry.
THROW IT DON’T JUMP
At least the door's open now. Fucking finally.
LINK GET OUT OF THE LAVAAAAAAAA
You fucking idiot child
Do we have to start all the way at the start of the dungeon?
Tumblr media
Whatever. Let's just do this...
LINK STOP GOING INTO THE LAVA
This game is about to make me cry, and not in a good way.

LINK STOP PULLING OUT BOMBS
What is the point of Navi again?
Boss time!
And done :3
King Dodongo is the easiest boss of the game from what I heard. Only took like, 4 or 5 bombs to take him down.
More hearts!
Haha. Idiot fell into the lava.
Tumblr media
Kitty has come to play with me
Tumblr media
Beam me up, Scotty!
Hi Darunia.
Dude, why are you beating your chest like a gorilla? Lol
Dude, there are rocks all over. You didn't need the ones specifically from that cavern.
You live on an active volcano. The mountain could have shaken and the rock land in front of the cavern. You have no proof that my beautiful man caused this.
I like you too, I guess. Sure, let's become brothers. But first, please put on some pants.
*Dad comes out of the office while I'm talking to Darunia and gettingthe Goron Ruby*
Dad: What is that?
Me: A Spiritual Stone. The Spiritual Stone of Fire.
Dad: The Spiritual Fire of Stoner
*screen goes to Death Mountain*
Dad: Look, a smoke ring! See? It's a stoner!
It's raining Gorons! Hallelujah!
Oh wait, why are they chasing me? Run, Link! Run! XD
Finally stopped Hot Rodder Goron!
Hey, you said you would give me something for stopping you! Liar!
Why is there a cow?
Tumblr media
Why is the grass grabbable?
I am so confused...
THE VOLCANO IS ANGRY!!!!!!!!
Turtle time!
Hello Rauru...
Ok, I made it to the Great Fairy Fountain. Where is she?
Rauru, you lied to me about the fairy!
Did the royal family steal her?
Guess we'll find out next time because I have to eat lol

The Chain end up at Oni!Reader's home with the next portal. Every Link couldn't help the confusion as they're standing on a path lined by tall bamboo stalks, pink foliage trees and strange dog statues. Only a certain Oni has the answer.
Reader: This is my world, specifically the path to my home. Great-grandfather Shukaku planted all these cherry blossom trees and bamboo as he carved the road.
Sky: Really? He did a fantastic job as these look beautiful.
Reader: Beautiful and functional. There are protection charms inside the Komainu statues too ward away malevolent Yokai and low level demons. Follow me.
Sēji's den, an old Japanese temple or tera, had two kinds of protection. The Chain were about to see the second as Oni!Reader held them back before they could cross the Tori Gate to their home.
Reader: Hold on for a moment. MIKI! SHINJI! Come here!
Legend: What are you... BY THE THREE!!! *Sees two huge lion like dogs as big as OoT King Dodongo leapt from the brush. One has white fur and a black mane while the other red fur with a blue mane*
Reader: These are my family's Komainu, Miki (white komainu) and Shinji (red komainu). They protect the home while I'm gone. It's important they know you're with me or they would've chased all of you away. Ain't I right? *pets the two large beasts who are happily wagging their tails*
Warriors: Good to know.
Reader accidentally forgot to mention that Miki had pups so Twilight, Wind, Sky, Time and Wild got tackled by five little komainu during the house tour. Legend and Hyrule holed themselves in the temple's library as they gotten a written guide to decipher the language.
Warriors end up finding the armory while Sky learns about zen gardens from Oni!Reader. The kitchen might've got taken by Wild as the kitchen utilities are simple brick ovens, cooking pots and stoves.
Only modern stuff are lighting, heating, air conditioning, tv, a few game consoles, bathroom utilities and cameras. Overall not that overwhelming for the group. Although the Chain definitely made a blanket fort in the living room as Reader played a few movies.
Oh Twilight is going to have a field day playing with the pups. Sky might join him afterwards. Wind would be a bit more hesitant but they can't be all that bad. Legend would take a little bit longer to come around and play with them.
Let's be real though. Sky would want to learn how to carve bamboo. It can't be that different from carving wood but he's not entirely sure what would be the best way to go about it.

Give us the oot tea sis 👀
-Sky Floor
Hokay, I have my computer glasses, I took my sweater off, the fan is on, and my fingers don't hurt (too much :P), so let's go! (TL;DR at the bottom)
I started puzzling this out when I was trying to figure out what kind of story I was experiencing while playing. It's something I've been able to do for every Zelda game I've played: for Skyward Sword, Link is determined and loving, but has to temper and better himself over the course of the story in order to save the girl her loves. In Breath of the Wild, Link is picking up the broken pieces of a world he does not remember, discovering it and rediscovering it at the same time.
Link's story in Ocarina of Time is about loss and growing up. But it's a lot more complicated than simply, "he was a child but then he had his childhood ripped from him so he had to grow up too fast". How is it evidenced in the narrative? What kind of themes enhance this idea? How do the other characters and their positions and arcs support this main theme?
And then I got it. Every character in Ocarina of Time is defined by two things: The role they have to play, and their awareness of how this role affects them and other people. My experience in the game was loneliness and the constant feeling of the walls closing in. Link's story is that everyone in his life on whom he needs to depend is barred from understanding him, listening to him, and giving him the support he needs.
Of course, this is evidenced best by the various characters and the changes they undergo during the timeskip of seven years.
Saria, very plainly, represents Link's childhood innocence. She is his only friend that understands what his childhood was like and, and what it meant to him to be ostracized and bullied for not having a fairy, and what it would mean for him to leave her behind. She waits for him in a way that no one else does after seven years. She wants to see him again and make sure he's okay. Again, she thinks of him in a way that no other character seems to do. But this sweet friendship is stolen when she awakens as a Sage and says this:
"I always believed that you would come. Because I know you... No... You don't have to explain it to me... Because it is destiny that you and I can't live in the same world."
Destiny separates them. The divine role they have to play cuts Link off from his oldest and best friend.
Darunia, the Goron chief, welcomes Link with open arms after he defeats King Dodongo. He makes him his Sworn Brother and enthusiastically sees him on his way as a friend. Seven years later, Darunia recognizes him as an adult, but there is no time for them to catch up. Darunia's people are captured and dying, and the duty he has to his people brings him to ask Link to aid him in saving them. Once their victory is won, Darunia is now a Sage, and says this:
"You turned out to be a real man, just as I thought you would! By the way, I, the wild Darunia, turned out to be the great Sage of Fire... Isn't that funny, Brother? Well, this must be what they call destiny. Nothing has made me happier than helping you seal the evil here! Hey, Brother, take this! This is a Medallion that contains the power of the fire spirits--and my friendship."
Though Darunia expresses his pride in Link, he cannot support him any further. Destiny comes between them.
Ruto, the Princess of the Zora, makes Link a heated promise in her childlike adoration of him. Seven years later, she fully believes in his return for her (despite Link prooooobably not knowing what Marriage was at the time😬). She views her love for him as the valuable gift it is, but again, is debarred from letting her affections blossom by the necessity of their partnership in the fight against evil. And she recognizes the duty they both hold in this battle, saying:
"As a reward...I grant my eternal love to you. Well, that's what I want to say, but I don't think I can offer that now. I have to guard the Water Temple as the Sage of Water..."
Again, destiny comes between Link and a person who would love him. (Quick note: did Ruto actually consider Link's feelings? No. Does it look like she was capable of doing so, after seven years? I would say yes.)
Impa doesn't have as much to do with this, but I can't exactly skip her, can I? Devoted to her charge, Impa is dedicated to protecting the princess. After she awakens as a Sage, she commends Link for his courage and maturity, and asks him to protect Zelda in her stead.
"Now I see that you have become a fine hero... There's nothing to worry about... The Princess is safe now. Soon, you'll meet Princess Zelda face-to-face, and she will explain everything... That is when we, the six Wise Ones, will seal up the Evil King and return peace to Hyrule. I have to stay here... You go to Princess Zelda's side and protect her on my behalf."
Link takes on the responsibilities of an adult, which destiny placed on his shoulders.
The Gerudo leader, Sage of Spirit Nabooru breaks the mold. From her first introduction, she has no relation to destiny or a divine role, and in fact demonstrates her willingness to reject those who wish to make her do their will. To her, Link is not a beloved friend, or an awesome hero, or an adored ideal, or a light in the darkness. He is just a child who can aid her. It is incredibly significant to me that the only dialogue options in the entire game where Link can respond in more than "yes" and "no" are in his conversation with Nabooru.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Footage from Arglefumph: The Nancy Drew Dude on Youtube)
What's this? The first opinion Link has ever expressed in this entire game??? Link from Breath of the Wild had a condition where the pressure and expectations on him made him unable to speak or emote, and I can't help feeling like the same might be true for the Hero of Time.
Anyway Nabooru also breaks the pattern by not encountering Link in the early stages of the game. When you get to the Spirit Temple portion of the game, Link travels back in time to meet her and then immediately goes back to the future (hehe) to continue her quest. When Nabooru meets him again in the future, he has freed her from the Twinrova's control and made it possible for her to awaken as a Sage, upon which she says this:
".......But isn't it funny? That a person like me could turn out to be the Sage of Spirit! And now, I'm going to fight them as one of the six Sages! Heh heh... I'm going to pay them back for what they did to me!"
Although Nabooru fits into her divine role more naturally than the other Sages, her destiny still divides her from the physical reality.
These are the Sages, the people aware of the turbulent destinies laid upon them and the divine duties they must shoulder. But the reactions of the other residents of Hyrule show a concerning trend: all of them see Link as only a portion of himself. To most townspeople, he's just a random kid all up in their business. To Mido, he's his rival for Saria's attention, and later, the kid that he failed. To Malon, he's the boy whose memory she holds dear, the man who had the courage to drive the evil out of her home. Some see a savior, some see a customer, some see a young man to run their errands, but they all see the image of the person they want to see. A mask, if you will.
And all of this comes to a head in Zelda/Sheik. Before the seven year timeskip, Princess Zelda is effectively Link's boss. She directs him to do what she cannot, in a desperate plan to take matters into her own hands when the adults refuse to listen. Sheik watches over him, inexplicably appearing and disappearing, always out of his reach.
The progressing relationship between Link and Sheik is something I'd like to detail. The first two temples, Link plays along. He follows Sheik's instructions and listens to his guidance. Every time he turns his back, Sheik vanishes. What really stuck with me in the encounters with Sheik was how they're the only person Link really knows is following with him. The only person who knows—understands—what he's going through, who chooses to reach out consistently and hand him the tools he needs. Link is so, indescribably, lonely.
In Lake Hylia after the Water Temple, when Sheik readies to vanish again, Link runs toward them. Link so rarely emotes in this game, which makes every stumble, every motion significant. In the encounter immediately after this, Link and Sheik partner in battle. They stand as equals for one cutscene—and that's all Link wants, really. To be on an even playing field with another person, not planner and executor, not childhood friend and adult, not a pawn in whatever game the one he's facing wants to play.
Then he meets Sheik in the Temple of Time, where they reveal themselves to be Zelda, and I'd like to imagine that Link allowed himself to hope. The imminence of destiny, of their divine roles, overshadows their conversation, but perhaps Link thought, for a moment, that his partner in destiny would see him as more than what she needed him to be.
But Zelda dashed these hopes to pieces after their victory over Ganon (Keep in mind that the final boss section is the only part I haven't played yet, although I have seen the cutscene at the end). She recognizes the hardship and loss Link has gone through, and blames her own choice to drag him into the uncaring saga of fate and destiny. Too blinded by guilt to recognize what he truly needs, she strips him of the relational connection he so desperately needed—and takes even more from him: the skill he had worked for, the future he earned, and every memoried record of his pain and struggle. In Zelda's misguided attempt to shoulder Link's responsibility, she sent him to the past with the mission to shoulder hers.
"All the tragedy that has befallen Hyrule was my doing... I was so young...I could not comprehend the consequences of trying to control the Sacred Realm. I dragged you into it, too. Now it is time for me to make up for my mistakes..."
And finally, we all know about Navi. (Honestly, I forgot about her for most of the game. All she does is prompt me towards the next dungeon and remind me that I cannot, in fact, open doors that are locked.) Well, I mean, about her mysterious departure. After Link is sent to the past, to the moment before he pulled the Master Sword, Navi up and drifts out the window like her wings turned into dandelion fluff.
This is the last blow, salt in the wound, if you will. The last entity who at least knew about Link's journey, however unhelpful and silent she may be, abandons him with no explanation. Aside, she is Link's last link (haha) to the home of his childhood. Without a fairy, he cannot navigate the Lost Woods and return to the Kokiri Forest. This metaphor assures us that Link's childhood innocence is irretrievable, that although he may have traveled to the past, Link himself remains the person he became over his adventure. However, Navi's departure also serves to signify the finality of Link's isolation, and tells us that truly he is now, more than ever, alone.
TL;DR In Ocarina of Time, Link's narrative is that of loneliness and loss, with companionship and support just out of his reach the whole game until it is locked away forever.

To confirm: This essay is based on my personal experiences and therefore personal interpretation of the game.

(Hello Anon) Was Mask able to remain after death due to the use of soul-magic, how did he loose his eye, and was he the one that killed Stallord. Do you think Oni could become one of the Twili-gods as this would explain several thing, such as What happened to him, How the Twili know about the Hero of Time, and that Oni's magic (blade beams) share the same color as the Twili god's magic.
Alright Hello, I'm gonna be honest here: the answer to all of these questions is 'I have absolutely no idea'. But I get the impression that what you want is somebody to speculate with? So I shall speculate!
The only thing the Hero's Shade ever tells us is that he didn't (couldn't?) move on due to having lingering regrets. I'm going to take this as 'sheer immovable stubbornness' and say that there wasn't much magic involved, Mask just decided that he didn't want to go and then kept on refusing until the afterlife left him alone
I really don't know how he lost his eye though, to my knowledge we're never told anything about how that happened. Presumably, on some adventure between Termina and his death? I'm gonna make something up: it was a Wolfos, possibly. Or, on the note of the Stallord, it could have been during that fight instead. But then again, also on the note of the Stallord, we have no idea where that came from either. I suppose, if one were to do a deep theory dive, there might be something hidden in the lore? Or alternatively we can just say it was the King Dodongo from OoT. That sounds plausible, right?
Oni becoming a Twili god... personally, no? I don't think that would happen. But don't let me stop you from making your own theories about it, because it seems like you've got some ideas down already!

gotten through the second dungeon of the sealed palace. it's thus far a very fun romhack and i am extremely impressed by the sheer amount of work put into it and the technical aspects. the writing at least where i am now is just okay and it is very obvious when dialogue has been recycled from oot if you've played the game a few times. but like the dungeon design is thus far very good and i really love how the game makes the player use the items in ways they likely wouldn't have before unless they played rando. things like using the deku nuts to enable killing blows on armos statues are used.
something very impressive about these weirder uses of the items is that they are tutorialized fairly ok? like the deku nut on armos statue thing you're taught in a relatively safe locked in room you can't leave at all until you kill them both. and by this point you just have the nuts, sticks and your sword. so your options are kind of limited and thus, if you know how the nuts work, you are led to going "i wonder if stunning them makes them damageable". the dungeon design is falling into this area too where easier things are presented first and then harder variations latter on. i will say that, as well as this is done, it is a game that necessitates some degree of familiarity with the base game. i imagine if you haven't played oot at least a few times through the game is very hard. with things like pieces of heart that require you to have a good understanding of how to control link's jump arc and puzzles that require trickier use of bomb timing.
the game is also making use of the standard oot bosses it seems. which is understandable. i didn't really like the missing link's unique boss, but i did really love that there was a unique boss. and a unique tool too; the tool i actually liked a lot. they have tried to spruce up the bosses some with shit like putting leavers and sinking sand into king dodongo's arena but like it's still just king dodongo. you throw two bombs in his mouth and jump attack with a stick twice and you're done. again, this is understandable. but i will admit that i am very much wanting boss encounters that are as interestingly challenging as the dungeons themselves.
that aside. the sealed palace is definitely worth a look. if you want more traditional 3D zelda then this seems to fit the bill. similar to master of time it's a long hack too. so if your issue with the missing link or dusk and dawn is the length, then that's not a problem here.

Today on “OoT and TP are making me cry”:
Listening to Stallord’s theme and once again realizing that this is the same theme used for King Dodongo and Volvagia makes me sob.
Also, have you noticed the similarity between OoT Link and TP Link’s bosses?
A parasite (Queen Gohma/Diababa)
A dinosaur (King Dodongo/Stallord)
A dragon (Volvagia/Argorok)
A giant spider (Queen Gohma/Armogohma)
A Gohma (”        “)
A boss that is literally on fire (Volvagia/Fyrus)
Morpha and Morpheel
Their stories were so smilar to each other.
