ugh those "oscar" fans (in inverted commas bc as i said to you the other day i don't believe they're real oscar fans - easy to tell from the fact they invariably have certain other drivers' numbers in their bios that are "coincidetally" the fanbases who cannot leave lando alone).
they've even recently tried 'lando doesn't care about mental health, he never posts about it, x,y,z driver posts about it more'. no, he doesn't post shallow tweets occasionally paying lip service to it, nor does he do 'i went to discover what this mental health thing is all about' pr drivel like certain others do on the odd occasion they remember they claimed to care about it.
instead he has put his efforts into effecting real change where he can irl. he talks honestly and frankly about his own ongoing struggles on live tv and in interviews like the one he did with jon last year. it's well-known how much impact famous young men speaking openly about their struggles has on other young men who are struggling, a group who have such a high rate of mh issues and suicide. like your other anon said, by being open and honest he steered mclaren toward taking mh seriously starting when he was only 19 years old, is the reason they were the one team that got their team members proper mh support during covid, is the reason they have the partnership with mind, and his work bts has led to them now having a trackside psychologist for the team and having recently hired a second, have a proper mental wellbeing team at the mtc. he is one of only two drivers who spoke out in the media as far back as 2021 about the worry of the mh impact of the increased calendar on the trackside teams, zak has also said lando spoke to him about his concerns for the crew and that was one of the things that made him act accordingly - mclaren started rotating their trackside team as far back as early 2022, increasing that more through 2022 & 2023, since early last year have been running test sessions to train new engineers and mechanics so they can be added to the rotation and have recently completed another round of recruitment for working toward them having 3 people in every position that they can rotate across the year to give their staff a proper rest. a couple of people who work at mclaren have also said that lando took it on himself to talk with them and care about them when he heard on the grapevine they were struggling and i doubt they're the only ones he's done that with. he has used his position to push for change & lead by example in the place he is most able to, his own workplace, where it has had a real and meaningful impact on people's lives. and that has spread out across the paddock with other teams starting to follow mclaren's lead. (seb also had a similar impact on mh work within aston martin once he joined them in 2021) it is so much more than lip service or a bit of pr. effecting change is not about how much you post about something on social media.
a lot of people don't realise how much he's done within mclaren because he doesn't blow his own trumpet about it 24/7 but zak, andrea and other team members have let out bits here and there about how much he really cares. andrea has also spoken at length about how much lando did to help him keep the team's spirits up in 2023 when things were bad (and andreas seidl said the same of him in 2022). there is also someone who works at the mtc who posts in the mclaren sub on reddit occasionally who said early last year that whenever lando was at the mtc he took the time to go around every single department individually and talk to them and encourage them and thank them for all their efforts and assure them things would come good, and the mclaren guy said how much that meant to people who work there. (he posted in response to some fans saying lando must make mclaren workers feel like shit because he talks in interview about the car being bad)
also oscar going to the great barrier reef is fantastic. i'd imagine they reached out to him to help with awareness and he was very happy to do so while he was able to be in australia for a while. he and lily were in queensland over the break (he posted a pic of them in noosa) so maybe he got talking to people then that made him want to be involved. and honestly how dare those "fans" turn it into something to bash lando with instead of recognising the great initiative oscar himself has taken and the platform for awareness of the work being done there that it is.

tell us more about these projects! i’ve struggled to pick up languages again after an extended break and no time and a project-based approach seems very refreshing!
Apologies in advance for the long post. I do plan on making a more detailed post on this at a later point hopefully a video but I make no promises these days.
Important note!! Before you start any short- or long-term learning projects, begin a polyglot journal outlining your objectives and check in every two weeks with an extra detailed summary of what you’ve done, haven’t done, dislike, feel needs changing, etc. either once per quarter or 2x year. Your micro-goals, methods and timeline should shift over time, showing that you can reassess the project and try out new things to suit your needs. If you don't update on time it's nbd, but at least try to write a note in your planner or calendar about what you did when because it can be extremely helpful one year later when you try to revisit where you are now and how you got there. 🧿🤍
The main projects from 2019 to today include the following
Greek - Conversational Speaking, 2019
Goal: meet for casual 30-minute lessons with a teacher, 2 or 3x per week to build up conversational skills and high frequency grammar in use as a passive bilingual (it being the native language which I actively lost growing up for various reasons).
Reflection: The real studies were repetition in speech and looking up key vocabulary I would need to use to tell my teacher about what happened in the last week, and my teacher supplied me with additional vocabulary to help me be more specific. Now I have a record of that vocabulary which I can review whenever by topic/story. Plus my family did notice my drastic improvement and asked if I had been studying.
Irish - The Merlin Project (Quarantine Project), 2020-2022 (+ ongoing, needs new methodology because I met my aims a while back at this point)
Aim: Go from A2 to B1 by learning to write so that you can have the skills to be able to read longer texts
Challenge: Rewatch an episode from the last show that you watched and write down what you see in as much detail as possible, making sure to use a grammar point you’re currently studying in your writing. Look up new words to make the text more specific and add them to the description. Correct your text. Watch the same scene again and add more detail, as in the following:
(Basically: first: do a grammar practice, then: watch 30 seconds, write using that grammar, translate dialogue if you want, consult dictionary, write again incorporating the new words and/or make the sentences more complex, at the end: correct your text yourself or with a teacher, start again and repeat until the scene or full episode is complete or you've exhausted the usefulness of the exercise.)
Alternatively just write or translate fanfiction, but I don't say that here.
By self-correcting you should become very confident on the basic skills at your level, whereas the rewriting itself allows for varied attempts at forming sentences and vocabulary acquisition in a specific context.
FYI I posted the project itself along with the notes to my website (here) and intend to share the presentation on the experience I gave in the Gaeltacht this past August soon enough.
Multilingual, select Romance and Germanic languages - The Diana Project, 2022-present
Challenge: dive deep into the rhythm, melody and sound of certain languages (which relate to a poet I’m analysing) via a slow read of poetry and familiarisation with the poet, poet-translator and poet-actor
Components: read, write, translate and recite poetry on the subject of Greco-Roman tragedy (now its shifting to satire after 1+ year or so of tragic influences) from select eras and in select styles, ex. ottava rima, rhyming verse & simultaneously learn about the rhetoric of poetics that influenced these authors and their poems or translations
These writings I’m still adding to my website as part of a translation, recitation and poetry portfolio.
Most recently, I’ve started what I call the Secret Senecan Project which requires reading certain ancient and mediaevil texts on stories I’m familiar with in the original, identifying key words based on context then extrapolating the grammar from their features (declinations, location in reference to other word forms, etc.). The next step will be to compare these predictions with the bilingual translation and consult my grammar books in those languages to confirm or improve my predictions.

1. How many works do you have on Ao3? 554 (with two not revealed yet as we speak...). Many of those are collections, though.
2. What’s your total Ao3 word count? 1,986,915 (erm...yeah...well)
3. What fandoms do you write for? Tolkien (The Hobbit, LOTR, The Silm). (+ the odd AU or Richard Armitage movie)
4. What are your top five fics by kudos? Tumblr Imagines (Wild Mix of everything) , October 2022 Ficlet run (same), A key change (Remix Fic), Black (Thorin x OC), Silm imagines and ficlets (Wild Mix again)
5. Do you respond to comments? Yes, in due time. I struggle a lot with being overwhelmed at times (imposter syndrome, fear of not knowing what to say, comments heaping up), but I am so thankful for every comment that I do try to answer them all in a timely manner.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I've written about 1k fics; I do not remember all of them :s I generally don't write angst, so I really couldn't say. Sorry :(
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Everything? I am a Happy Ending person, so most of my fics (eventually) get a happy ending :D
8. Do you get hate on fics? Not yet (crossed fingers). At times, I get comments I don't really understand (autism ahoi), but I hope that people didn't mean anything mean by it :)
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? SMUT? ME? Noooo *cough*...Let's say it has happened! What kind? What kind do you want, baby? MF, FF, MM, trans characters, non-binary characters, threesomes, it has all happened. Sweet and tender? Check. Rough and dirty? Check. Dubconny and dark? Check. Just tell me what you want, and there is a good chance I've either done it or would do it :D
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I have written one crossover for an event (where characters go into a whole different franchise). Otherwise, I am an AU bitch. Disney movies, musicals, you name it.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Again, not that I know of.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Once for an event. Otherwise, I think one could call what @cilil and @melkors-big-tits did for the calendar co-writing. In a way, many collabs with artists are co-written. Any event collab is co-writing (to me). Me stealing @cilil's ideas is co-writing. Me asking for ideas on the @fellowshipofthefics and @tolkienpinupcalendar servers is co-writing. So...yes...yes I have, and I've loved it.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? Ori x OC, Maedhros x Fingon, Eönwë x Gothmog
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Black. It's one of my first fics, and there's only a chapter or so missing...but I don't know if I'll ever finish writing that last chapter. There are a few more where I've written 1-5 additional chapters and never uploaded them...for reasons (?). By now, I am too ashamed and lazy to get back to them.
16. What are your writing strengths? Versatility and speed. I am a mediocre writer in my 5th foreign language, and I make no bones about it. Nevertheless, I am willing to give anything and everything a try :D
17. What are your writing weaknesses? I am extremely wordy. It takes me too long to get to the smut. I refuse to describe settings and geography, so all my plots seem a bit floating and vague.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I avoid using languages I don't speak which includes Tolkien's languages. I am too afraid to make mistakes or to sound cringe to people who know better than me. As for RL languages...a word maybe, but a whole sentence (again) might feel contrived...IDK everyone does as they want, but I am not feeling it for myself.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Hamilton (and yes, those stories are orphaned and can never be traced back to me) Otherwise, the Hobbit LOL
20. Favourite fic you’ve written? Monkey-business, because I really liked writing that fic. It's a kitschy Hallmark Christmas story featuring Ori (not interesting, I know). But that's my personal fave lol...

First Base
Day 13: Dry Humping (Benny “Borracho” Magalon x F!Reader)
(For the 2022 Kinktober event offered by @the-purity-pen. The original post and calendar/list can be found here. Literally a month late because I had other things I needed to do.)
CW: Pining; (talk of sex; making out; dry humping) 18+ only.

The guys sometimes open up their exclusive circle for their parties, so sometimes other people in the sheriff’s department show up. Former partners, lab techs, they are especially friendly with.
Z started inviting you way back when Big Nick started the parties, so you’ve been there from the start. You and Z came up through the academy together, served as deputies for a spell out of the Lomita station. Then you split off onto your separate careers, but you stayed friends.
Benny has the broad strokes of you. To hear Z tell it, you struggle with organization, with the step-by-step, by-the-book way of detective work. Which is why you thrive in Cold Case—you sit at a desk piled high with old cases, and you can read through the evidence and notes to find missing pieces. You have a rabbity brain, hopping from one thing to another with little guidance to the outsider, but your own internal logic makes you a fucking ace at solving the old shit.
Not sexy work, but noble stuff that’s often thankless. Benny likes that about you. He likes a lot of things about you, actually: how secure you are in your own skin, how you can go toe-to-toe with Big Nick when he’s being an abrasive asshole. How you seem to balance your work perfectly—not jaded by the horrors you see, but not undone by them either.
It’s no secret that he likes you. Once, early on, he got plastered and asked Z about you. What your status was, was sort of guys you went for.
Now Z teases him sometimes when your name comes up. It’s just that you have a long-term boyfriend, some industry guy who works on the business side of the movies. Z mentioned him once, said he was no good and just stringing you along for long years when he should have married you, but you’re loyal to a fault.

When Z throws a party for his birthday, you invariably turn up. You hand off a wrapped gift to the birthday boy, give him a hug, call him an asshole in an affectionate tone.
Then you wander over to the kitchen and mix yourself a drink before wandering into a deeper part of the house.
Benny clocks you the moment you arrive.
He snags another beer first, then turns to Henderson. Talks about the Lakers prospects, and he doesn’t talk to you until later.

He’s the one who finds you.
Z has a partially finished basement, half-assed and pulled together from weekend home improvement projects. Benny goes to the basement to use the bathroom there—a narrow powder room with uneven drywall joins—and he finds you perched on the couch in the corner, watching TV alone.
“Magalon!” you call out when you catch sight of him descending the steps.
You always smile so broadly at him that he can’t help but smile back, and he’s a man who hates smiling so wide. It makes his eyes squint shut, makes two dimples appear on his cheeks. Hardly the picture of the stoic, tough detective he works so hard to portray.
“You hiding down here?” he asks.
“Nope, just wanted to sit and relax.” A beat. “You hiding?”
He jerks his chin in the direction of the bathroom, and you nod at him.
“Well, if you want to hide out a bit after you’re done, I can spare you some of this couch real estate.”
“I don’t want to intrude.”
You grin at him again. “Not at all. You sit with me, I’ll tell you some embarrassing stories about Z to blackmail him with, okay?”
He chuckles, shakes his head. Goes to the bathroom and catches his own smile in the mirror as he washes his hands. You grinning at him, asking him to sit with you in the quiet of the basement for a bit.
What a dumb thing to get excited about, yet he does.

He goes upstairs to get you both drinks, then he comes back and joins you on the couch. The two of you watch the channel it’s already on, some show about ghost hunters that is funnier than it is scary.
You ask how he’s doing, how work is going. He asks the same of you, and you shrug and tell him that you’re working an unsolved from 1983.
The two of you fall into a long stretch of silence, which is comfortable enough. You’re an easy person to just sit with, and you seem comfortable enough with him. He likes that about you too. Big Nick is one of those chatty assholes who can’t let a moment of silence lie, so Benny isn’t exactly used to parties where he can just sit and let the quiet surround him, he can relax a little, let his guard slip just a fraction—
“So I guess people don’t just make out anymore, huh?” you ask, breaking the silence. “They just skip straight to hooking up now?”
He’s got his beer halfway to his mouth, but he pauses. His brain spins uselessly like a wheel in mud, struggling to get unstuck.
“Huh?” he asks.
“Like on dates.” You turn your head and look at him. “There’s no, like…step progression. Don’t people do the bases anymore? First base is making out, second base is groping over the clothes…people just get straight to full-on fucking, I guess.”
He clears his throat and tries to play it cool. “Isn’t second base hand stuff?”
“No, that’s third base.”
He shakes his head with a chuckle. “Third base is oral.”
“No, I…” You trail off, furrow your brow in thought. “I thought oral was part of a home run.”
“Maybe you learned it different. Maybe it’s one of those regional differences across the U.S.”
You laugh, elbow him lightly. “Yeah, that’s how you can tell who grew up where. This person calls it soda, this person calls it pop, this person considers giving head third base.”
He chuckles again, but Christ, this is worse than every other time he’s interacted with you, those few handfuls of moments where you chatted and joked around. This is worse—this is you talking about dating, saying the phrases full-on fucking and giving head, which of course takes his mind right there, imagining what it would be like to full-on fuck you, to stretch you out on his bed and see what sounds you might make, how you might taste, how it would feel to…
Your laughter trails off, and you shrug a little sheepishly.
“I didn’t know how bleak the dating scene was,” you tell him.
He’s surprised but he hides it. “What happened to the Hollywood guy?”
Another shrug. “Didn’t work out.”
“So now you’re dating…”
Another light laugh, only tinged in the faintest bitterness. “Yeah, and I didn’t realize that there’s no making out, there’s no art of seduction or anticipation anymore. It’s just….oh, let me buy you a drink and then we can fuck. Oh, you don’t fuck on the first date? How about a blow job then?”
It doesn’t make him hard, of course, but there’s definite interest in that quarter. You swear rarely, and he’s never heard you talk so frankly about sex, yet here you are, and Benny’s dick twitches at the thought of you doing all of those things, the thought of your clever mouth open in front of him, his dick sliding along your tongue…
There’s also definite jealousy. Protectiveness. Irritation, at Z. Why the fuck didn’t Zapata tell him you were single? He even picked up lunch for the asshole the past few days because the man was underwater on his paperwork.
“And you want to just make out on the first date?” he asks. He takes a sip of his beer, glances at you as he does.
“Ideally. I mean…as a guy, do you really want to get right to sex?”
He snorts. “As a guy, yes.”
“Don’t be a stereotype, Magalon,” you reply with a grin. “C’mon.”
“What? If I had to choose between making out and fucking, of course I’m going to choose fucking. No contest.”
You turn and face him on the couch, your expression earnest. “But isn’t that half the fun of a new relationship? The potential? Having a make out session, then going home and having that butterflies-in-the-stomach anticipation? Doesn’t it make the second date that much better?”
“Counterpoint, though. You can fuck on the first date and then…get this, fuck on the second date too.”
You scoff at him, roll your eyes and turn away. “The art of seduction has been lost, I guess. I’ve been out of the game so long, no one told me.”
You fix your gaze on the T.V., but Benny can see the frown on your face. He has a million questions about the Hollywood guy, about the disappointing dates you’ve been on. He wonders who broke up with who and has to assume—given Z’s praising of your loyalty—that you were the one to get dumped.
He also hates to see you frowning like this. He knows you aren’t mad at him, but you’re lost in some unhappy thoughts, it seems, and Benny wants to pull you out of them, cheer you up—
“I get it,” he murmurs quietly after a long few moments of no talking. “Making out on the first date is like…extended foreplay.”
It has its intended affect. You turn and shoot him that grin that makes him feel like a million dollars. “Yes! Exactly! You get it, Magalon.”
The thread dies off, and the two of you turn back to the T.V., and your frown is gone. You finish out one ghost hunting show, start a second, and Benny’s mind is roiling with a million thoughts. You’re finally fucking single, and you’re over your breakup enough to be dating, and he’s single, and he’s been waiting for this moment, never thought it would come—
“So, you wanna make out now?” he asks, and if you’re shocked, you hide it well. You give him that cocked head, that smile…then you reply, “absolutely.”

Benny’s ashamed to admit that he might be part of your problem with the L.A. dating pool: he hasn’t just made out with a person for a very long time. Maybe even since high school. He’s not pushy, he doesn’t think, but he was honest with you: of course he’d prefer to progress straight to the bedroom as soon as he can.
This…this is something else.
There’s the first kiss, how you turn shy for the briefest of moments, how he bridges the gap between you, and how the first kiss is sweet—chaste, closed mouths. Testing the waters. You recently single and disappointed by your future prospects, him a little stunned he has this moment with you after low-key crushing on you for years.
Then there’s how it progresses. The shy moment that fades as you get more comfortable with him. Your hands lightly rest on his shoulders to start, but as you each warm up to each other, they drift to cup the back of his head, to cup the side of his face. He behaves with his own hands, keeps it gentlemanly: one on your waist, one moving between your back, your face.
The rest of the world falls away. The murmur of the T.V. and the low roar of the party upstairs, the slightly musty smell of the basement…it all falls away as Benny warms up to the feeling of making out with you.
It’s an awkward position at first: the two of you sitting on the couch, twisted towards each other, but as the awkwardness melts away, Benny guides you into his lap and you straddle him eagerly, without an ounce of seeming reserve. He catches your smile, soft, slightly stunned, before you lower your head to kiss him again.
He tries to keep it gentlemanly. He really does. It’s just…there’s only so many places he can settle his hands without being forward, and it’s easy to lose his head in this moment. The feel of your lips against his, your tongue licking against his mouth, the sweet little groans you make, the pleased sighs.
And that’s just your fucking mouth. Your own hands stick to the tame places, but fuck if it doesn’t set his nerves alit with sensation when you tangle your fingers in his hair and tug against him gently, or when you knead at the tightly bunched muscles at the base of his neck, or when you grip his bicep as you turn to catch your breath.
Which is all nothing compared to the perfect weight of you in his lap, a few tantalizing inches away from where he’s grown hard, but so fucking close, if he could just put his hands on your hips and draw you a little bit closer….
He doesn’t. He doesn’t do that. You’ve set him up for a home run, no pun intended. You’ve lobbed an absolute softball over the plate at him, complained about every other asshole in Los Angeles and given him the exact template to winning the way to your heart. Benny may want you, but he wants you for more than this moment, so he plays it exactly as you want it.
“This okay?” he asks, his voice low. You broke away again to catch your breath, and he gazes up at you as you do. Takes in your pupils, so wide they make your eyes glitter black in the low light of the basement. Takes in your swollen lips, rubbed clean of the lip balm you had been wearing, a little chapped now.
“This okay for you?” you counter.
He smooths his hands over your arms and down your back, settles them on your waist. “Feel like I’m in high school, making out when my parents aren’t home.”
You smile at him, reach out and lightly pinch his cheek. “I bet you were adorable in high school, Magalon.”
He scoffs. “I was not adorable. I was tough.”
“No, you were probably so cute. You probably grew out your goatee and got that neck tattoo to try and prove how not-cute you are, but you failed and—”
He cuts you off, cuts off your teasing by pushing you off of him, swiveling you onto the couch and stretching out over you, and you make a squeal of surprise before he seals his mouth over yours and cuts it off.
And for the briefest of seconds, he worries that he’s overplayed his hand, that he’s misread your teasing as more than it is, but you wrap your arm around his neck and hold him to you, and he realizes that you may be struggling to keep it at first base too.
It's so close to falling apart. Making out with you like this is torture, and Benny finds himself settled in the cradle of your spread thighs, finds how easy it is to grind against you, and it must do something for you too because you figure out his gentle rhythm and press back against him.
Your breathing quickens. Your sweet little moans draw out, get louder, and it is like being back in high school because Benny feels like he’s on a hair trigger, that he could come just like this as if he were a horny teenager again. You must feel the same—he has far more experience now than he did in high school, and he knows you must be getting close too, judging by the desperate way you kiss him, the way you grind back against him and how you wrap one leg around his own, holding him there—
What a fucking rush. It makes Benny feel amazing, makes him puff his chest out in pride as he throttles the kissing down and as he stops grinding against you. Every instinct tells him to keep going—keep grinding against you just so, dragging and pushing the clothed bulge of his cock against you, the friction enough to push you over the edge, but you hadn’t wanted that…
Benny stills, and he presses a gentle kiss to your swollen lips before he pulls away and sits up.
And he’s rewarded by the most blatant look of disappointment and longing on your face before you sit up too.
“You didn’t have to stop,” you mutter, and you sound a bit petulant but you’re smiling too, so he reaches out and kisses you lightly again.
“Isn’t this half the fun, though?” he teases, turning your words back against you. “Won’t it make the second date that much better?”
You laugh. “Does this count as a first date?”
“I got you a drink earlier,” he points out reasonably. “Even if I didn’t technically pay for it.”
Another laugh, and you stand up, straighten out your shirt. You reach out and pat him on the cheek, and you bend your head to kiss him—soft but lingering, and he fights the urge to tug you back down to him.
“Still a better first date then I’ve had in a while,” you grin down at him. “Give me a call if you want to set up a second one, okay?”

1. Who or what got you into F1?
so in 2018 my brother got an xbox and in 2022 f122 (?) was added to the game pass, he developed motorsport brainrot and would not stop blabbing to me about it 😽 then he mansplained the SG grand prix to me, i surprisingly found it interesting, and here i am
i think also i saw Seb trending on here in late 2022 and that made me more ‘aware’ of f1, in the sense that Seb was one of the few drivers i did know before, so there was some weird attachment there. there was a period of time where i stopped tuning in to the SG races (busy + covid) so that got me paying attention again
2. Who was the very first F1 driver you supported? Do you support them now? Have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?
Ohhhh Charles Leclerc 🎊🎶 pretty much the same, i find the narrative around his career very compelling, i like his driving and he’s a cool guy
someone once asked me “did you just choose the first guy you saw on the TV” and honestly, if i think about it. Yeah. he was the first driver i saw when we switched on the race broadcast.
3. Who’s your current favourite F1 driver?
Charles! if Seb makes a return then it’ll be him, but i’m assuming this means current drivers only.
4. Is there a driver pairing or pairings you support? What made you attracted to that pairing in the first place?

Charles was the driver i liked and Seb was the driver i knew from my childhood so i was curious about the connection. i’m a big fan of the maturity with which they handled their off-track relationship; tbh my opinions of them as teammates purely-racing wise are mixed, but they’re also my two all-time favourites so my fondness gets amplified when they’re together
5. Do your parents, siblings or relatives have a favourite driver?
Well. my brother is a Lewis fan, my uncle is also a Lewis fan. from 2025 we’ll be an all Ferrari family 😮💨
my uncle has Lewis and Valterri’s driver cards and art prints of Coulthard and Barichello’s helmets in his house haha
6. Do you have any favourite races? Are there any that stand out to you the most?
Hockenheim 2019 and Hungaroring 2015!
i think Turkey 2010 also stands out in my memory thanks to arguably one of the funniest crashes in Seb’s career and the subsequent w2w between Jenson and Lewis.

Sepang, the incline is cool i hope they bring it back

[CN] Gavin’s Arriving as Planned Event (Prologue)
🍒 Warning: Detailed spoilers for an event which has not been released in EN 🍒

The doors of the lift open with a sound, and I walk towards my apartment while carrying newly bought groceries.
The moment I open the door, I spot Gavin in a half-squat in the living room. Noticing my movements, he turns to look at me.
When our eyes meet, he purses his lips slightly. His expression is a little apologetic, and there’s a luggage near his feet.
Having an idea of what’s going on, I remove my shoes and walk over to him.
MC: When are you leaving? Did you bring your toiletry kit?
Gavin: I’m almost done packing. I’ll be leaving after the meal.
While saying this, he stores his last piece of clothing into the luggage. As though guessing what I’m about to ask, he lifts his hand and strokes my face.
Gavin: It isn’t a mission this time. I’m going to a neighbouring city to participate in a discussion forum on safety. Don’t worry, there’s absolutely no danger.
MC: Oh? Captain Gavin is truly meticulous to know what I was going to say~
I chuckle while pinching the palm of his hand. Then, I lift the grocery bags and walk into the kitchen quickly.
After preparing a table of dishes, I reach out to take a bowl full of rice that Gavin is holding out to me.
MC: Oh yes, when will you be back?
Gavin: Next Friday.
I find myself glancing at the calendar on the table, my brows arching slightly.
MC: I recall that the STF sports meet is happening next Friday. Will you be able to make it in time?
Gavin: Mm, I’ll be back in the morning.
MC: Let me guess - you’ve signed up for quite a number of events, haven’t you? After all, you excel in them~
Gavin suddenly chuckles, a familiar sense of pride in his eyes.
Gavin: Nope. Since the Special Ops Team just won first place, my colleagues from other departments don’t want me to participate. Apparently, it removes the suspense from the event.
I pause, recalling how the Special Ops Team had recently represented Loveland City in a worldwide combat skills competition and won the first place.
Receiving such a special honour resulted in a “surge of stamina” from the STF, and they started holding competitions in private.
As more and more people signed up, they decided to officially host a sports meet, and to use this chance to respond to the positive energy.
MC: So you aren’t participating at all?
Gavin arches his brows almost imperceptibly.
Gavin: Although winning and losing don’t matter to me, there’s no need to give way.
MC: As expected of Captain Gavin~ It’s a shame that I can’t witness your dashing figure. I’ll cheer you on at home~
As though sensing the twinge of regret in my tone, Gavin smiles while giving me a piece of meat.
Gavin: The competition will be in a training field outside the STF. Family members can participate. Come over and cheer me on.
My eyes widen slightly, and I chuckle.
MC: That’s great! When that day comes, I’ll definitely be your most energetic cheerleader~
At this moment, a short ringtone sounds from Gavin’s phone.
Gavin: MC, I should go now.
Watching as Gavin sets down his cutlery, I respond softly while walking over to him and smoothening his collar.
MC: Remember to let me know once you’ve arrived safely. Also, you must have your meals punctually. Don’t eat fast-food just because you’re in a rush. If you have to attend many meetings, remember to stand up and move around occasionally...
I pause abruptly.
Gavin: Is that all?
MC: ...nope. There’s too much and I suddenly can’t think of what to say.
After hesitating for a moment, Gavin smiles and picks up a note pad from the table before handing it to me.
Gavin: Why don’t you write them down? That way, I definitely won’t forget anything.
MC: Since Officer Gavin has outstanding abilities, I’ll give you a few extra missions, okay?
While saying this, I quickly grab a pen and write down a few “missions”.
After I’m done writing, I hand the post-it note to him.
Gavin reads it carefully before storing it in his breast pocket. Then, he bends down, leaning his forehead against mine gently.
Gavin: Understood, my Miss Commander.

Possible or TRUE?
We finally saw the 'King's Tide' but with this we got to see a post/article about Anne and the frog invasion. Are they really in the same meta? Is this an easter? With this I've tried to make my own theory by research.
TLDR - timeline of both shows dropped, and explaining the real/possible timeline conflict of the article - I concluded that theyre in the same realm
According to wiki timeline of amphibia. It was 2019 when they got to 'Amphibia' and then it ended with more on around near mid 2020 itself. This crossover must've been not because its an easter but THEY ARE on the same universe.
By a wiki comment i found whom looked at the dates since it is apparently given, the SS1 took 2 months (65 days in exact) while season 2 could be near as (PS. this would be the confusing part) its around eps 4-10 of 1-2 weeks (11 days?) eps 1 time gap ever since the eps 19 SS1 is 1 week and a half (11days?) Which in total by our knowledge. 87 days (nearing end of 2 months). Correct me if im wrong.
"In "Reaching Out", it shows that Luz's father died on August 22, according to the calendar at the end of the episode. The calendar also shows that August 22 is a Monday, so for the calendar to be correct and in the same time frame as the modern era, The Owl House is thus set in the Summer of 2022, making Luz born in ~2008. It should be 2022, since the last time August 22 was a Monday was in 2016, and that may be too far back to be considered "appropriate for the timeline of The Owl House"."
Lets take off the 2016, the highest possibility was 2022 of Summer. The best guess we have is that luz is may be 04-06 (April 2006). Which is around Anne's age. But then again, the 2022 wouldn't make an entire sense, so we took the best guess with the most reasonable year. With this, i conclude that TOH is placed in 2020 after adding 2006 (near plausible to 2005 as well) to 14 which is Luz age. By this then. Luz is still in the boiling isle for at least 3 months or a half which is a possible time that the frog invasion is done and hence why they used young anne picture instead of the being so called a canon of 2029-2030 looks of anne (or more likely 23 yrs old anne) of the time pass of Amphibia. Yes now with the compatible years. THEY ARE IN THE SAME REALM
FIXED EXPLANATION FOR THE MONTH - If Luz is in the boiling isle for at least 3 months (and a half) once rounded up, and then they encountered the article after the frog invasion on amphibia, shes possibly in the boiling isle of summer break 2020 of January or Feb. Which the possible date of the ending of the invasion would be 2020 of March-May, this concludes the fact if they end up seeing the article then they may perhaps really be in 2020 now. The reason i whole heartedly agree on 2020 even if theres 2021 or 2022 as option is due to the fact that the creator actually gets confused at the timeline too which results to creators making their stories on current timelines, which was 2020 when TOH started. Even on gravity falls the timeline is the same year when it was released, so this isn't anything new to make for creators to be in the similar timeline. We can even take example of Amphibia whom did that due to the confusion of two inter realm, which can be confusing to create timelines, Matt said himself he gets confused. If both shows were pure fantasy they can set in any time. CUZ ITS FANTASY. But no, which is why Dana could have done the same route as Matt.

Dangerous Waters

This is the last chapter for Dangerous Waters. The next story in the 2022 Calendar Series, Secrets In L.A., will be a one-shot, is focussed on Lady P and Parker, and is intended to wrap up any loose ends left in this story. Without further ado, I hope you enjoy ^^

Gordon frowned as he weaved in and out of the numerous mines that littered the space above the sea floor, hanging by chains as the bottoms were shackled to the ground. The diving sphere was within sight, surrounded on all sides by the mines. His eyes widened as he almost collided with one just out of his field of vision, swerving to narrowly avoid it. Thunderbird 4 came to a halt, her pilot breathing a sigh of relief as he came off the adrenaline high.
Memories of WASP quickly surfaced in his mind, memories that he fought to keep at bay. He couldn’t handle that, not right now…
He hoped Scott was having a better time than he was…

Scott was decidedly not having a good time up on the deck. He was currently in front of Artem, the poor man sobbing about how this whole thing was his fault, keeping on crying how it was all his fault and he should never be trusted with anything again. Scott just stood there in shock, his knowledge of what to do when handling a panic attack somehow leaving him. The whole family was prone to them, and he had been on the scene of a great many attacks of his brothers’, especially Gordon’s. Instincts came sliding into place once more as he pictured the family aquanaut in this young man’s position, and he placed a steadying hand on the younger man’s shoulder, making shushing noises and gesturing to show him how to control his breathing.
Once Artem had calmed down enough, and was inhaling and exhaling normally, Scott spoke in a soft voice. “This isn’t your fault, Artem. Sometimes, these things just happen.” He sighed. “Tell you what, why don’t you go and lie down for a bit and we can talk about what happened later?”
“A-Are you sure?” The sailer sniffled, raising an eyebrow.
Scott nodded. “Absolutely. And take your time as well. Try to relax and have a hot chocolate. We can take care of things while you do.”
Artem nodded, reluctant, before heading inside the ship. Scott watched him as he disappeared, sighing as he turned to face the sea. He hoped Gordon was doing okay without any backup down there. Several minutes passed before he spun to leave, although something caught his eye as he did so. Plans to return to Mobile Control abandoned, he knelt down, inspecting the end of the rope coil.
So it hadn’t been a complete accident after all. The line had been cut.

Just out of sight of the East Zephyr, Virgil sighed, bored out of his mind and perhaps more worried for Gordon than he ever had in his life, yet remained clinging to Thunderbird 2’s wheel, keeping her hovering in the air. His line with Mobile Control flared to life, his elder brother’s voice sounding a little shaken.
“Virgil, we have a problem.” Thunderbird 2’s pilot froze.
“What’s going on? Did Gordon manage to open the link again? Is he in trouble? Are you in trouble? What’s happening?”
Scott’s voice lowered considerably. “Nothing’s happened, Virg. But something tells me not all is as it seems on this ship…”
Virgil raised an eyebrow. “Go on…”
An image of the sphere’s line appeared on a screen in front of him. “Look very carefully at the end of that rope, and tell me you see what I do.”
Virgil’s eyes widened. “The rope’s been cut?!” He gasped. “There’s a counter-agent on the ship!” His concern suddenly reached an all time high. “You gotta get off that ship Scott! Who knows which maniac could’ve done this.”
Scott shook his head, although he knew Virgil couldn’t see it. “That’s a no, Virg.” He cut his brother’s rising protests off. “Leaving now would jeopardize the crew who don’t have it in for us, plus, I’d rather be here when Gordon gets back with the divers.”
“Scott…” Virgil almost whined. He clenched his eyes, banishing any negative thoughts he had about that idea. Scott knew how to fight against his enemies. So did Gordon for that matter. They could handle themselves. Even so… “At least let me call Lady Penelope in; maybe she can identify the most likely mole in the group.”
“That’s a good idea. Let Dad and everyone else know what’s going on as well. They’ll want to know about this. I’ll see if I can get through to Gordon; he needs to know as well, if he hasn’t noticed already that is. After all, cut ropes have two ends…”
Virgil hummed in agreement. “FAB. Over and out.”
The pilot closed the link, opening a new one in the process. On the other end of the line, a woman picked up, voice thick with the accent of the British aristocracy, and despite the youth within it, held a great deal of experience. “International Rescue. Lady Penelope speaking.” Virgil discreetly cleared his throat.
“Hello, Lady Penelope. I’m afraid this isn’t a social call.”
The noblewoman sounded curious. “Of course. What can I do for you?”
“What can you find out about a Peter Meddings, Artem Zhuk, Otis Akers and Tara Summers of the crew of the East Zephyr ship, registered to the World Aquanaut Security Patrol?” His skin crawled at the thought of one of their friends being involved, but they could leave no stone unturned. They had to be thorough. And Penelope Creighton-Ward was nothing if not thorough…
Penny hummed. “My contacts within WASP are limited, but I shall do my utmost to gather as much information on them as possible. What’s happened?”
Virgil sighed before rehashing everything that had happened on that rescue to IR’s London Agent, leaving nothing out…

A long time passed before the mission was finally completed, Gordon having found more trouble getting back with the sphere than he had diving to retrieve it, as well as having to cut away several layers of debris. But he made it.
And Scott had an answer as to who the most likely suspect for their saboteur was, courtesy of Lady Penelope. Heaven knows how she managed to figure it out so quickly, but it was, quite frankly, the only person who made sense, given their background. But he wanted to wait for Gordon to return with the capsule before revealing it to the crew. Which he did, Thunderbird 4 rising from the depths, her pilot just barely visible as he waved at his brother.
Despite the task ahead, Scott grinned, waving back. Gordon wouldn’t be happy about Scott knowingly hanging around the same ship a counter agent was, but Scott would rather have his brother angry at him than have the innocent crewmates in danger.
A few minutes later, after returning Thunderbird 4 to it’s pod, Gordon appeared by his side, Thunderbird 2 swooping down to the surface to pick up the pod before once more flying out of view, but they both knew it remained nearby.
Gordon grinned at Scott. “So, what did I miss?”
Scott smiled sadly right back, knowing Gordon was either going to die on the spot or find the whole thing hilarious. “Well, to cut a long story short, how’d you like to help me reveal a counter-agent?”
Gordon froze, smile dropping off his face for a moment, before fully processing what his brother had just said. The smile returned, this time a mischievous grin, and one Scott was all too familiar with. A precursor to any one of the aquanaut’s pranks. “It would be my pleasure…”

SOLO DEBUT MISSION 001
SCHEDULE TYPE: TRIMESTER ( PART 1 OUT OF 1 )
SCHEDULE RESTRICTIONS: only for SON NABI.
( important note: this will be the only part for the solo debut mission this term! )
while the rest of the FUTURE DREAMS contestants had to meet at their assigned location at 10AM, one of the staff members calls NABI from practice and leads her to a separate meeting room with an individual that she hasn’t seen before until now.
“hi, i was told by KIM HYUNCHEOL to take care of this meeting. please take a seat.” the woman says out loud before introducing herself, “i’m GEUM SHINHYE and i’ll temporarily be your manager during this time.” she hands NABI some papers related to the meeting, specifically what her schedule will be during this time. “i know that your title song wasn’t revealed in public, but since it’s just the two of us i can say that your song is called ‘glitch’. because of the packed schedules, we’re quite limited on time in terms of preparation for this solo debut so starting today you will be learning as much of the song as you can. we will begin recording this song next week and afterwards start learning the choreography since your solo debut will be happening just a few weeks right after TYPE ZERO’s comeback.” she pauses to look at her laptop where it lists NABI’s schedules on a digital calendar. “…and it’ll be on NOVEMBER 29.”
for NABI’s single, there will be the title track ( GLITCH ) and then a b-side ( STARLIGHT ) featuring the rest of the girls in FUTURE DREAMS ( NOH AREUM, PARK CHAEKYUNG, PARK JAEKYUNG, and WATANABE MIYU ). line distributions for starlight can be found over HERE. since the rest of the girls will be busy with their bootcamp, NABI will be practicing both of the songs alone. she will be filming the music video during the week of NOVEMBER 7 and afterwards she’ll be spending the rest of the time until NOVEMBER 29 preparing for her solo debut.
after NOVEMBER 29, NABI will be promoting on music shows for two weeks. during this time, she will be appearing on DECEMBER 1’s episode of WEEKLY IDOL and DECEMBER 10’s episode of RUNNING MAN. once her music show promotions are done, NABI will be flying to JAPAN on DECEMBER 17 to have her showcase and hi-touch with her japanese fans. she will be having several hi-touch events from DECEMBER 17 to JANUARY 6, so she will not be returning back to korea until JANUARY 7.
LANGUAGE WORKSHOPS
in the middle of all of the preparations, NABI will be requested to take JAPANESE and ENGLISH workshops to prepare not only for her japanese promotions, but for future projects as well. there will be a tutor that will accompany NABI during this time so they will have language workshops whenever there’s time available.
LGC CAFÉ PERFORMANCES
due to her busy schedules, NABI will not be eligible to participate in the LGC CAFÉ PERFORMANCES for this trimester.

1. Who or what got you into F1?
first of all, one of my friends has been watching it since summer break of the 2022 season and i was always like "omg i don't get it why would anyone watch f1" (yeah🤡)
but more so, in april when i should have been studying for my a-levels and i was procrastinating, i was looking for something to distract myself with. so i went on youtube and got recommended some youtube videos by the official f1 channel like "11 times ___ happened", stuff like that.
i started watching those, then i watched some funny driver moments compilations and once i was done with my first few exams, the miami gp came up and i decided to watch it bc why not. ever since i'm deep in the hole lol
2. Who was the very first F1 driver you supported? Do you support them now? Have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?
the first one who stood out to me was charles leclerc bc i thought he was funny in the yt videos and i'd also seen some really cool racing moments of him so i was like "slay i like him" and that hasn't really changed, just that ,over time, more and more drivers have been 'added to my collection' lmao
if anything, i admire him even more now bc he never gives up and stays with ferrari and his sheer optimism is something i look up to a lot
3. Who’s your current favourite F1 driver?
it's still charles lkdghslkghs but alex and oscar are really close to being number 1 too

the last season is such a blur, i can't remember singular races that much laksghkslghks maybe singapore bc that was the only non rb win and a ferrari win at that? but i don't think there's THE favourite race for me yet. i have to watch more

bc i haven't watched a full season yet i can't say honestly, and again the last season is such a blur, i can't remember singular circuits that stood out to me. only time will tell

2024 Resolutions
It’s 2024. Why.
Before I let you know what my 2024 resolutions are, here are some other things of note that you might be interested in doing right now.
Every January I make sure to:
Mark down all important anniversaries/birthdays/holidays/weddings (also Daylight Saving Times, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving) on my calendar.
Check expiration dates for my passport/license/health card/insurance/vet vaccinations and write down any important renewal dates.
Schedule all my doctor, dentist and hair cut appointments for the entire year.
Go through my entire fridge and throw away anything expired (this should really get done every month, but I’ll tell you right now that I never remember to do that).
RESOLUTIONS
Read at least one book per season.
Take Baby Dog on an adventure at least twice a season.
Properly go on a date with Nathan at least once a month.
Try at least one new restaurant each month.
Go on a solo trip.
Style outfits with more care. (I’ll forever have that Bill Cunningham quote floating around my head, “Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life.”)
Have a final manuscript in my hands that I will continue to submit until someone wants to publish it.
See at least twenty of the movies that have been on my to-be-watched list for literal years.
Stop agreeing to things that I don’t want to do.
Continue to photograph all of the things that bring me joy.
BONUS: Reread and remember these resolutions at least once a month.
If these seem like frivolous and unserious goals, then we probably wouldn’t make great friends. I make these resolutions intentionally because they’re important to me and to my well being. And I encourage you to make your own in the same fashion. I don’t mean to sound preachy, but everything gets harder with each passing year, so I think it’s best to carve out time for the things that make you happy.

SUMMER BREAK ROUTINE
For those who don’t know, I am a history teacher and I am currently living in Brazil. Our school year calendar is different from the US and Europe; we start in February/March and end in December. So, right now, I am home, recharging. Soon, we will start again, so I am dedicating my time to myself. I am trying to build healthy habits and be more disciplined.
That’s why I decided to change things a bit here. According to my solar revolution, 2022/2023 will be all about self development. I am going to become better, already am better than I was last year, so, yeah, I can feel the difference. Slowly and steady, folks!
I never had any problems with waking up early, in fact, I love it. I am much more productive when I do so. But after the holidays, it’s been hard to get up before 7. I am falling asleep again and this cannot happen. I used to be up by 6 and I want my old routine back. That’s my main focus right now.
Once I am up, I brush my teeth, drink water, around 500 ml, and take my journal to write everything that comes to mind, sometimes the dream I had and my interpretation, what I am feeling or a song that is playing in my head and I don’t know why. This method is called Morning Pages, and I am loving it. If you want to know more, read here.
Once I am done, I take a shower, stretch and have breakfast. After that, I clean and organize my house, and then I take 30 minutes to workout. If I am the one in charge for lunch, that’s what I do after working out, if not, I will focus on the article I am writing on Film History. And the morning is over.
Now that I recall that in January I didn’t have much time to focus on my article because it was not the only intellectual thing I was doing. I took courses and, logically, I was tired. Filling every little hour of my day is not helpful at all. I am sure it will be better in February. This is something to keep in mind.
I don’t have a lot to do during the afternoons now, sometimes I watch football or series, learn a bit about witchcraft, astrology or any other topic, spend time on social media (instagram, youtube, twitter, whastapp) or just resting. After midday the time flies.
My nighttime routine is about hygiene and organizing my room. And in between these, I meditate, but I will try to meditate right after working out cause by the end of the day I always think: oh no, still have one thing to do. But I do it. I didn’t fail any time last month. Once my room looks decent, I put my phone aside, usually around 21h, and read a book until I fall asleep.
There are a few adjustments I want to make, new habits to add, but overall, I am happy with what I am doing. I just need to keep going.
I am fighting for my fairytale, guys. Great things are coming.

Advent Calendar 07: Technical Lockout

I mentioned in yesterday's notes on copy protection that my father likely had all the stuff he needed to copy the PRG and CHR ROMs on your average game cartridge out in our garage. While true, it would not necessarily have gotten him a playable "backup" of a game. Oh, there are consoles it absolutely would have worked on -- the Sega Master System, had we ever bothered to buy one, would have been just fine even if he stuck a naked circuit board with a burned EEPROM on it into the cartridge slot. The SMS, like early Atari consoles, based its security around the idea that only the most determined souls would have the equipment they needed to pirate a mass-produced ROM cart -- i.e., Chinese counterfeiters and incurable engineering nerds like my father.
Not all manufacturers were willing to put their faith in apathy. Nintendo for one implemented an authentication chip on their consoles. The "10NES" chip used a call and response format, where a 10NES chip in the machine would query the cart, and would not start the game unless the it got the proper response. (The failure mode was to reset the NES, which is actually what causes the 'flashing screen' problem when the cart or connector contacts are dirty -- the 10NES chips can't talk to each other, and the console thinks you're playing an unauthorized game.) Nintendo designed the 10NES and was the only manufacturer. You thought the "Nintendo Seal of Quality" was an advertising gimmick? What it actually meant was that every publisher was required to submit their game to Papa Ninty for approval, and Nintendo took charge of making all the cartridges. You could only release so many games a year, and your print run was whatever Nintendo said it would be.
You might think that would really tick off a lot of people, and your thought is correct. Atari's Tengen subsidiary was so pissed they engaged in some not-so-legal shenanigans to get a hold of the 10NES schematics, so they could make their own. Atari got a pretty hard smackdown in court, but it did highlight the main problem with hardware-based solutions: Once it's cracked, it stays cracked. You can put out new models of the console with new firmware revisions, but the original models are vulnerable forever.
This doesn't mean the hardware/firmware lockdown didn't do its job -- it took hackers twenty years to properly crack the security on the Sega Saturn -- but even if the security itself lasted the production life of the console, eventually someone, somewhere made their effort moot by figuring out how to circumvent the hardware lockout instead. It works well enough that every major maker of consoles has used some variation of a software bootstrap process for the games checking in with the hardware/firmware security routine ever since.
When you mention defeating this stuff, most people's first thought is 'haha, now I can download my games!' But at least these days, most of the cracking work is done by groups who are, on the whole, prtty solidly opposed to piracy. They want to use the hardware to run 'homebrew' -- that is, their own programs, usually games. An equally important goal is investigating how the hardware works, as most of the technical ins and outs of a console are only shared with developers, and kept under wraps with an NDA. Security on the Wii was dismantled by the efforts of a group calling themselves Team Twiizers (who, as the name suggests, used a pair of ordinary drugstore tweezers to short a pair of points on the Wii mainboard and get it to spew out a lot of internal info on boot) and the late Ben Bushing's obsessive effort to figure out how the factory got system software onto the Wii in the first place.
The third thought is that everyone is sick to death of region locking, the practice of dividing the world into marketing 'regions' and then making sure that only games from your region will play on your console. This started with DVDs, and it made a bit more sense there. The regions boundaries used by the DVD consortium corresponded roughly with the different television broadcast standards of the world. It made more sense for your Region 1 player to refuse to play a Region 2 disc when the R2 picture wouldn't display correctly on your TV anyway. Now? Flat panel screens all work pretty much the same, so there is no practical reason that you shouldn't be able to play American Blu-Rays on an Australian TV, other than the publisher thinks they'll make more money that way. Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft all seem to have given up on this for games, thankfully -- the last major machine that was region-locked was the 3DS, and I finally caved and switched to running Luma on mine so I could play Japanese games.
As the previous links reflect, explanations of this kind of security tend to be hyper-technical and probably not of much interest to you if you aren't curious about system architecture, but here's a good layman explanation of how the original Playstation implemented hardware security, and how it could have been a lot better.

How To Deal With "After The Holidays" Objections

It may be hard to believe, but 2022 is coming to an end. This year has dragged out for some of us, but for others, another year has passed in the blink of an eye. With the holiday season approaching at the critical junction of the calendar year-end, two core values of American culture clash head-to-head. In one corner, we have tried and true capitalism striving to end the year on a high note by hitting or exceeding your sales goals. In the other corner, deep-rooted traditions of family and festive spirit beckon us to cozy up by the fire and attend countless parties & mixers for work, friends, and family.
As a result of this conflict, prospective clients are likely throwing up one objection as to why they can’t or won’t move forward.
“After the Holidays…”
Ah yes, the annual blaming of festivities for indecision or as an easy way out for those kind beings who are too nice to say no.
But what can be done? Who can argue against the holiday spirit? I don’t want coal in my stocking after all.
I have just the thing for you—a five-part plan to knock your sales out of the park this holiday season. Starting with, you guessed it, mindset.
Mindset – yes, our favorite starting point, and for good reason. The first step to overcoming this objection is ensuring your mindset is correct. People sell how they buy. If you used this excuse yourself, expect to hear it come back with your prospects. Or, worse yet. Do you genuinely believe that business should wait until after the holidays? Remember, the most important sale is yourself. If you sold yourself, that doing business can wait, this ship is hard aground.
Listen, Acknowledge, and Isolate – The first three of seven stages to overcome an objection are crucial once again. First, listen actively and hear the issue they are describing. Next, acknowledge that you understand, are with them, and even agree that the holiday season is a busy time of year. Then, Isolate by asking: “Other than waiting for the holidays to pass, is there any other reason you wouldn’t move forward?” Finally, by isolating the concern, you can see if this is merely a complaint or a cover for the real objection.
Validate – this stage is critical. When validating, you will ask something like, “That wouldn’t keep you from buying, would it?” or “There’s got to be something else?” The conversation will generally go in one of two directions: “Yes, it would stop me/there is something else” or “No, it wouldn’t stop me.” In the latter case, you are through the objection and may move on to qualifying questions. Or, if there is another objection or waiting until after the holidays would stop, then you need to probe.
Probe, Tie Down, and Justify/Close - probing questions sound like “The fact that you need to wait until after the holidays wouldn’t stop you from benefitting from this product, though, would it?” So here you are digging into the stated objection to determine the validity if it is a red herring, and if not, what type of objection you are facing. Most often, “after the holidays” is a stall, but it could also be a red herring for product, price, terms, or time. Once you have determined the type of objection (and it is only ever one), you can tie it down with “Assuming I could…(solve the objection)…could you make time/move forward/buy now/etc.?” Now, you can justify/close with your big claim and move on with the sales cycle.
