Atonal
Watched a documentary on Florence Foster Jenkins, last night, while waiting for the edibles to wear off. Almost pissed myself laughing.
It's crazy to look across the prism of History and to find what we'd today call a TikTok Thot staring back at you from the depths of 1943's Manhattan Boho culture, being absolutely convinced that her librettos were worth a damn when she couldn't hold a note to save her life.
The thing is, she was wealthy. She was rich enough to afford vinyl pressings of her own "performances" and thought that being able to book reknowned pianists on her own dime meant that the general public would appreciate her efforts.
Compare and contrast with today's lot of influencers who basically go "I can affect Vocal Fry and scat along a beat, which obviously means I'm Singer Material! Watch out, TikTok!"
Like - kid. I know, you look like a rejuvenated Melissa Etheridge with curlier hair and makeup so heavy it looks like it adds a pound on a scale, but you are no singer.

Ka Zuigetsu
(spoilers for the manga, LN, WN you name it)
Jinshi or rather Zuigetsu is such an interesting character for me because of the dichotomy. We're initially introduced to him as someone with a lot of pride in his looks, confident, mature beyond his years. Later on, we find that his true self is quite self-depreciating and childish.
He doesn't have an attachment to power, nor his looks. He's actually not the arrogant lord Maomao initially thinks he is because he's open to learning and taking the advice of those who know more than him. And while this feeds into his complex that he's surrounded by eccentrics who are extraordinarily good and excel at one thing (the entire Ra Clan, Maomao included, Basen etc.) he's no slouch himself!
I mean Jinshi doesn't think much of himself considering himself a jack of all trades, but what a wide variety of trades it is - he can beat Basen using skill instead of force, he beat the Emperor at Go at the tender age of fourteen and this is with the Emperor having been taught by the Sage who is one of the only two people known to have beat Rakan, he dances with such grace that foreign envoys can only think of him as a goddess, he's enough of a quick study with medicine according to Maomao, not to mention his prowess at both the military arts and diplomacy.
As if to make up for all that he perceives he lacks, he knows talent when he sees it and will use people accordingly. Ironically (and though they would both hate to hear it) Jinshi and Rakan are more than a lot alike. Despite his complex, these qualities actually make him quite a good leader and you could see why the Emperor really wants to make him the Crown Prince even if this isn't Jinshi's wish.
But unlike Rakan, he is still soft-hearted at his core (see the case with Fuyou for example). And though Maomao is rankled at how he attempts to be both pragmatic and kind, at his inability to wholly abandon his heart for the things he knows must be done, at her core, I think that trait of Jinshi's is the main reason why Maomao finds herself unexpectedly loyal to him.
Much has been said for Maomao's charisma, but Jinshi also attracts loyalty from unexpected places. Like Gyokuyou, he surrounds himself with capable people. While part of me is cheering him on to get his wish of being an ordinary person, I feel like everything has been building up to his eventual ascension to the throne. Because while Jinshi may complain and grumble about his work, ultimately he will still do it. At present, he could only implement his plan because he still thinks he's just the Imperial Brother. But the moment the truth gets revealed, he won't easily be able to shake off his burden.
A part of me thinks that he will eventually take the throne in some form or the other, but only until Gyokuyou's son comes of age and he can finally pass on the crown and become an ordinary person once and for all. This scenario would actually be the perfect pretext for him to justify having only Maomao for his sole consort since he can reason out that he doesn't want to further complicate the lines of succession by having more children with more consorts. In other words, a win-win possibly for both Jinshi and the current Emperor (except Maomao haha).

🍯New Age Money ♦︎ Timeless Pick A Card
‘When I was small, God was around and curiously granted my every wish. Now a grownup, I still believe that miracles do happen and that alone gets me up in the morning with such gladness.
And if I am enveloped by a peaceful sun filtering through the branches as I open my curtains, I am sure, everything before my eyes is a message.
When I was small, God was around and sent Love my way every day. And now, it is time I opened that precious box that’s been forgotten, kept hidden in a corner of my heart.
And if I am enveloped by the soft fragrance of cape jasmine in a garden awash by rain, I am sure, everything before my eyes is a message.’
– When I’m Surrounded by Kindness from Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989)
あなたの特技!Surely everybody was born into this world carrying some precious boxes of God-given talents. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to open those boxes and monetise such talents with Soul?

Pile 1 – ‘Harry, you’re a Witch!’
Tumblr media
untapped divine talents – Queen of Cups
Hey, magical creature~ You literally possess mystical powers but you probably didn’t even know~! You’re a sensual being, like a siren, who has an innate ability to feel what others can’t easily perceive. Naturally, this translates into your being highly intuitive, empathetic, imaginative—and you might’ve felt like this world wasn’t made for you. Psychics are incredibly sensitive people and you could’ve felt out of place most of your Life, but as the insightful Jiddu Krishnamurti said: sensitivity is the highest form of intelligence. We’re talkin’ EQ here😘
Someone like you was definitely not built for any kind of money-making endeavour that doesn’t allow you to be sensitive to the needs of others. There’s meaning in your being emotionally attuned and imaginative; even if—for example—you feel that your calling is to become an author, even in your writing it’s clear there’s a purpose of healing those who come into contact with your Art. If you’ve chosen this as your main pile, you literally possess some innate ability to heal others and this explains why you’ve always had the urge to make the world a better place🌍
You see, back in those long-gone days, those who were called witches were really scientists, teachers and healers. The word ‘witch’ comes from ‘wicca’ which means the wise one. Wicca (male) and wicce (female) were the knowledgeable ones who sought to apply their wealth of information and perspectives for the betterment of others as that’s how knowledge becomes wisdom. There is an untapped divine talent resting in you and it is your ability to feel through your psychic senses what society is lacking in terms of its maintenance of its own sanity🎭
YOU, literally hold all the ingredients necessary for a once in a lifetime breakthrough that could potentially heal all of Mankind for centuries to come~🌻
karmic/dharmic opportunities – XIII Death
I betcha you have significant Scorpio influences or 8th House placements or a specifically strong Pluto/Neptune presence in your natal chart. It could be that shortly before you were born someone quite spiritual/religious/magickal in your bloodline had passed away and it almost feels like you were born to pick up the pieces they had left. I betcha that some of your innate interests since childhood or pursuits you feel very strongly about that may have developed later in Life were inspired by or related to that relative/ancestor, one way or another. Like you just share similar patterns of behaviour, interests or even thought processes🦜
What you can really take away from all of this is that you have a purpose higher than yourself. That you came with specific blueprints and that your whole Life, your sense of purpose or mission, all of that is a group project you share with many Souls in the Higher Realms. Only high-vibrational peeps will really resonate with this message😊And that in itself is confirmation for you to know you have many opportunities in the healing and creative industries.
Seriously, you needn’t even have to worry about how you’re gonna make money with these opportunities even if they sound out of reach at the moment. Because it is your Destiny to be a cycle breaker—to start something completely new on your own—a path will be made for you just to fulfil your Destiny. And you can wholeheartedly trust in that to save yourself from excessive worry/anxiety🍷
the future of jobs – 5 of Pentacles
In the industry you’re meant to be part of, there will be a lot of chaos right before you make your debut. Like things are just falling apart and many of the players aren’t even sure what they’re there for anymore. There’s a lot of disillusionment that’s needing to be felt to the max until a breakthrough can really have any meaning. Either that, or some of you could be the one creating more chaos in the industry as you enter it LMAO We call you an industry disruptor, alright? You’re that breath of oxygen everybody was needing because they had been suffocating themselves with their own stupidity🍭
If you’ve resonated with this pile thus far, know that you’re meant to bring some healing—even enlightenment to some extent—to whichever industry you feel a calling to. And this is totally not a one-man’s show; you will be meeting a lot of kindred spirits in that industry and others associated with it. You’re meant to have an audience and serve a greater spiritual purpose for all involved. Bring back all those people into OG spirituality. All of this for what? For people’s mental health, obvi~💕
How does every one of these people expect themselves to be truly happy and abundant when their viewpoints are marred by childhood traumas and the excessive need for revenge? You of all people understand the innate darkness of the human psychology and the future of jobs within the industry of your calling is dependent on its people transcending above trauma and lack mentality so that a new, healthier paradigm can be established. Out with addictive behaviours; out with destructive habits; in with purer intents~ That’s the kind of New World you’re meant to be a part of to earn your keep in the most high-vibrational way👒

Pile 2 – Paths Least Travelled Lead to the Greatest Stories
Tumblr media
untapped divine talents – 9 of Cups
You…need to go and carve out a LYFE of your own, honey. Since you were quite young, you’ve always had this desire to go explore strange territories and come back to share grand stories only you could tell. A unique Life of your own that sets you apart from your family/community. Try to check what numerology has to say about, for example, your Life Path, Soul Urge, Expression and all that; there may be something there that validates this desire to be unique, to be different, to be a fucking unicorn, and perhaps, to be the FIRST to discover or invent something🦄
You have what it takes to thrive alone, that much I can assure you. Some of you probably even have Jupiter in Pisces/12th House or Neptune/Uranus in 9th House. Whatever it is, your Soul does intend for you to travel paths least travelled and discover magical things only you could have access to. What is this strange narrative for? For discovering your Soul’s heritage. I know it sounds weird. But you’ve come from very distinct bloodlines and I sense many of you have a strong affinity towards the faery realm? There’s a lot of historical truths to uncover as you walk the lonely path of the eccentric hermit🏞
The New Age of Aquarius is changing the way we receive truths. It’s such a glad thing that people are now more open to seeing things for what they truly are no matter how politically ‘incorrect’ or heartbreaking the truths are. Your untapped divine talents will naturally bring you towards avenues where you will arise as some kind of a whistleblower or you will be unearthing ancient esoteric wisdom and sharing it with the public. Your life path is definitely very exciting and will take you to wonderful places and meeting the most unique people in the world!⛵️
karmic/dharmic opportunities – 7 of Wands Rx
In many regards, your life path could even lead you to meeting some of the world’s most distinguished individuals OMO But the path is understandably not easy. This kind of calling will require a great deal of character and tenacity. You will be rocking the yachts of the Devil, right? Your Life Stories could get extra absurd and your discoveries might lead you to some dangerous encounters. Nevertheless, if you are nudged by a sense of being of service to Truth, you will decide it’s all worth it. When we die, our Souls carry only stories and memories of our heroism anyway🧬
You will have friends though. People who share your passion for the real re-education of the people. I see professions in journalism, philosophy, psychology, anthropology, criminology, even celebrity exposé stuff that reveal the scammy behaviours of the evil rich and famous. You could also be drawn intuitively to the studies of the REAL history of Planet Earth, her extraterrestrial history and the truths of the lost civilisations that have shaped the wars of our Time. You could secretly (or not so secretly) be part of the disclosure movement😉
The studies of Astronomy and Astrotheology will benefit you a great deal if you’ve resonated this far with this being your main pile. In everything that you do, there is a panacea for the brokenness of Humanity. Your sharing of outlandish discoveries and suppressed information could be what Humanity needs for it to mature and choose global peace and harmony. It will be a lifelong effort that may not end with your lifetime though. So make sure you leave enough material as your legacy for the next generations to continue on🍁
the future of jobs – King of Cups
I suppose it’s pretty clear to many of us now that the world is run by psychopaths. Indecent human beings with terrible hobbies that hurt others and the sheer disregard for the sustainability of the Planet and the livelihood of her inhabitants. With you, you will see for yourself pretty soon that the world is choosing to move to a more compassionate space, and you will have a role in giving a voice to those whose intentions for their societies are more honourable. You could be one to contribute an invention or two yourself; perhaps an exposé book, perhaps a channel, a website~ Idk, what do you feel called to?🎪
In the future you will be part of, you will see evil leaders getting replaced, thwarted even, by compassionate leaders of the New Age Money. Down to anarchy; we want real peace. Down to young psychopaths rebelling against old psychopaths only to start a new cycle of abuse. The future you will be seeing will see that those with a genuine heart rise to the top and begin taking charge of the wheel of society. Leading with a heart. People before profit. It’s really not that difficult to sow the seeds now~🌱
You yourself, and the people who share the same passion, vision and mission as yourself, you are a bunch of experts who will glue together different factions of society who want to work hand-in-hand to remedy all the destruction caused by the powerful psychopaths. There is diplomacy in what you share with the rest of the populace and there is kindness and grace. People’s mental wellbeing will be put at the forefront before profits are made. And if we really did go into a WWIII…

Pile 3 – For You, It’s Never, Ever, Been About the Money
Tumblr media
untapped divine talents – Queen of Pentacles Rx
Of all the piles, you’ve always resonated with loving being of service to the world since you were tiny. You could’ve been attracted to the service and hospitality industries since you were quite young, too. You were probably quite social when you were a kid and liked the idea of working jobs that would ensure other people have a good time, have a good experience with excellent customer service—basically, you liked the idea of helping/assisting others. If you could make your own choices, you’d rather have these types of job🩹
Unfortunately, growing up you were told that such jobs had no money or glamour. Some of you reading this could’ve come from a wealthy background in which working to service others is seen as uncool…even low. So this could’ve caused a great deal of psychological conflict in you. What you want and what your society deems worthwhile seemed to be in conflict. But let me tell you that your heart really knows what’s intended for your highest good🦉
From a very young age, you were already able to see that this world is sick and needing a lot of help when it comes to healing and transmuting negative aenergies. Your child brain couldn’t have verbalised that but your higher intuition knew you were put on Earth to tip the scale. You didn’t want to care about money; you wanted to pursue an authentic Life where your existence could be of some use to somebody👑
karmic/dharmic opportunities – III The Empress Rx
Some of you could’ve come from a rather impoverished background. This is easy to deal with. You were born face to face with this Devil called ‘lack’. But some of you could’ve come from a wealthier background or at least you weren’t necessarily starving and your society could’ve expected a lot from you. If the latter is the case with you, at some point in Life your Higher Self and team of Spirit Guides will force you to get down from the high horse of your inauthentic environment and have you experience Life from the perspective of those who haven’t got much in Life🐛
When this happens, your eyes will be opened to what truly matters in Life. That essentially, everybody in this world is sick to the bone because they’re trying to fill a hole in their hearts with weirdass purchases and hobbies. Part of your karmic reason to be born at this passage of time is to help Mankind transmute its unhealthy affinity towards excess indulgence via obtaining things that are truly fleeting. When you learn to overcome your own traumas and addictions, you help the collective conscious of Humanity transcend above that, too. This is very noble and you deserve a big bear hug just for existing in this realm~🧸
Rest assured, it is in your Soul’s blueprint that you must end up abundant yourself when all’s said and done. You’re destined to be very wealthy, from doing things that are high-vibrational and fully in alignment with what your Soul wishes for you to express as a Human being. You’re meant to set an example of what it means to do a job with Love~🎀
the future of jobs – 2 of Pentacles Rx
Many of you grew up in societies that taught you: passion doesn’t put food on the table. And you’ve observed many real examples of those who prioritise good deeds end up not having much money, indeed. And you could’ve believed that Life is about choosing between passion and duty. Bullshit. If people can’t thrive doing what they love, it’s the society that’s broken; how can there be no money to be made in those endeavours that are more exciting, more meaningful? You realise now that the System was designed to depress the common people in the pursuit of serving the Devil😰
You and your kindred spirits are the free spirits that are going to usher in an era of New Age Money where people no longer need to ruminate over sacrificing passion or freedom for a stable income. Back to before Industrial Revolution, maybe? Let’s reset the paradigm so we can recalibrate ourselves towards something more of a Solarpunk Society, or a Steampunk Society, that’s cool, too🍵
For you, it’s never ever been about the money. Career endeavours that would suit you most are whatever you feel an innate calling for. Many of your natural talents you’ve got since birth can be monetised in the service of your community, and better yet, online community. Some of you may feel a calling for being in the hospitality business, engineering, have an online presence or be a social media influencer, and some others may simply work in the aviation or F&B business, while some could want to become an eco-farmer or something. Whichever it may be, know that you have the unique power to elevate many aspects of the industry you are part of~🏹

The lights of the city were beginning to awaken, with the sun beginning its journey to its lair for the next 12 hours in which its lover was in charge of safeguarding the people who danced in the silver light of its reflection.
The streets of Mexico City seemed to be filled with a magical light when the stars began to decorate the blue sky, everything disappeared like a summer dream, the few cars that circulated through the Historic Center went away to their homes, like a flashing carousel in a Christmas decoration.
From among the trees a figure walked towards the Palacio de Bellas Artes, the branches swayed carefully as if they were trying not to hurt him with the simple act of swinging, the veil of stars rained from between the leaves bathing his skin kissed by the sun, his brown hair fell softly over his forehead, swirling gracefully as he moved making him look like an angel. Every step he took brought him closer and closer to the majestic building, its windows emanated a warm glow and he could perceive the distant sound of the music that was being played inside the premises, the young man who was now able to be enveloped by the art that was there. He felt his puffy cheeks blush with cold.
His steps seemed heavy, as if Mictlantecuhtli himself would accompany him at the end of his path on earth. Maybe there was no blood from this beautiful land in him, but they had welcomed his family when they didn't know where else to go, making him feel tequila and mezcal running through his veins. He adjusted his thick glasses over his large eyes, sometimes people looked at him knowing he was different, his skin was also bronze but there was something different about him, and he understood it when he didn't see anyone similar to him or his family in the room. theater or cinema, much less in his passion, music.
He always dreamed of being an opera singer, bringing his voice to every person who could listen to him and understand why he did it, being the representation of his people in the great reflectors of the world, being the star in the deep sky of a thousand hopeful glances; but he was afraid, he believed that he would not be accepted by the confused looks of the people.
That was until he saw him.
Lee MinHo... That was his name.
He found in that young and talented dancer an inspiration to continue singing, to continue dreaming, and without a doubt, to continue loving.
Although he had continued his career as a singer after seeing an incredible Japanese actor playing someone from that land where he grew up and lived, and being amazed by his work and performance, it was not until he attended a dance performance in the building to which he was arriving, he felt the burning passion of art in his veins again, his heart beat again with the intensity of the sun and he wished, more than ever, to be able to sing about love.
It was a night of cloudy skies and a few days before the new moon, some of his friends from the opera and orchestra with which he was beginning to perform took him to the presentation of one of the most magnificent dance groups in the country. A day had passed since her birthday, that September 15, 1963 he had met the flame of an eternal fire, as if it were what he wished for when he blew out her candles, that night he met the man who would change his world, he would meet the love of her life. Amalia Hernández's Mexican Folkloric Ballet would perform at the Palacio de Bellas Artes, where he once dreamed of singing, delighting the world with his voice, entering in some way he wanted and this time he would achieve it.
And there he was, inside the high white walls, dressed to the nines, waiting for life to fill his veins and lungs, when he saw him... he was an angel. An angel dressed in vibrant colors and unmatched beauty, his golden skin sparkled with the lights of the room, as if the stars wanted to decorate him with their light.
During the performance he could not take his eyes off that majestic man, his movements were as beautiful as the flashes of an eternal sun, alive and passionate, full of a power that nothing and no one can match, his heart beat strongly every time he observed his mischievous smile.
He did not know when he walked until he found himself in the dressing room of that dancer with the feline face, he could not control his hand when he took the knob and turned it after knocking on the door and receiving a response inviting him to come in, he could not even clearly understand the moment. in which those agile hands were already on his waist caressing him carefully while his cheeks began to burn. He was just there, in front of that talented man, feeling good... as good as when he sang in front of people.
There was something in the way he studied his face and body, his gaze was so deep and even though he didn't know him he was so affectionate, he just felt more than he could ever feel.
That was his first meeting, surrounded by musical notes, mischievous lips and a passion that ate him alive, the traces of that meeting never left his skin, like marks of a burn from the sun's rays on a blank canvas. Those memories did not leave his mind either, he woke up wanting to hear the dancer's voice filling the room where he slept only with the shadow of a half-awakened love, he longed to feel the artist's playful fingers tracing every curve in and out of his figure on his naked skin, a palace of memories created from the moments they began to share from that night on, that meeting marked their lives forever.
They had been talking for a few months, they had left behind the carnal relationship that only existed, the depth of their contact made them take hold of each other's souls, becoming entangled and drowning in each other's existence, knowing every corner of their mind and body... and although it had all started Just for the excitement of exploring their bodies, the hours full of laughter and discoveries were more important to them than anything outside their bubble of attraction and interest.   They knew each other, and they did it very well, he knew it, but... a few days ago when he was walking near the place where he had finally arrived, he saw that broad but delicate back walking nearby, he felt the need to run and cling to that waist that he loved to caress while the owner of his heartbeat rehearsed for his presentations and asked him to sing in his skin, although he was already accompanied, at his side, a woman with golden locks took him by the arm, her head leaning lightly on his man's right shoulder, he was his partner... what was he doing walking with a lady, when he had never mentioned that there was another person in his life? He didn't want to make a scene in broad daylight, much less when he noticed that other people were with the couple, some gray hair was beginning to paint their mustaches and curls, their skin decorated with wrinkles, they didn't deserve to see the disaster the man who lied to him would face if he caught him in his tricky ways, and she… she had to know what was happening, she had to know that he was his to love.
That was why he was in that place, with his best clothes and with the words in his hand, tonight she would know what was happening between the two of them, he knew that saying it would be difficult but he was prepared to receive the consequences of that sin, the consequences of loving him and the desire of him been only his.
In front of the doors of the beautiful palace there was a group of people, they were wearing long stunning dresses and perfectly tailored suits, the way they dressed was incredible, even in the eyes of someone who constantly had encounters with people from that social stratum, it still impressed him, it was intimidating to say the least. The fingers of his hands felt numb, the fear that seemed to anticipate a strong altercation was coming to life through his extremities... maybe he shouldn't have done it, but, he couldn't let that situation go unnoticed, he didn't know if he should talk about it with Minho first, before facing the woman who was being deceived by both of them, but he also wanted to make it clear to the lady that he and only he could fill the dancer's heart; maybe he would know what to do when he meets either lover.
His heart raced when he saw in the crowd a blonde head that was difficult to forget, her tanned skin shone like the late sunset glimpses in a beautiful bay with that emerald dress and her movements were so attractive that they seemed to bewitch you into her orbit so that anyone will gravitate towards her. His breathing stopped a little when he noticed that he was not so far from the woman who was accompanying her boyfriend, it was like meeting the queen after having kissed the king in the living room after a royal banquet, he being a simple royal knight; He felt that his heart could burst out of his chest at any moment and he would flee to the nearest avenue and throw himself into the surrounding cars, hoping for a better path than the love that seemed to end him.
"Excuse me," he cleared his throat, after looking at a ring decorating her beautiful hand "madam."
"Yeah?" The woman turned gracefully on her high shoes. "How can I help you, sir?"
He felt his legs tremble when those deep, dark eyes looked at him carefully, as if an eagle would look at its prey before eating it in one bite, analytical and calm, but always intimidating. He noticed that in the hand where she was wearing the ring, which could be presumed to be a diamond, she was holding a cigarette holder with her respective cigarette, playing with it on her perfectly red makeup lips.
"I would like to talk to you about Lee Minho" He savored that name as he had before he had delighted in his kisses. ", I think you know that name."
"Oh, of course I know who you're talking about, sweetheart." Her previously monotonous voice was filled with mischief as she said the last word.
The young man felt his cheeks burn at the tone with which the woman in front of him referred to him, he did not want anyone to speak to him like that, even less when he wanted to make it clear who was who in that strange relationship that seemed to exist, he tried to contain the words that wanted to escape from his lips but it was in vain, soon his tongue had no brakes and he lost his composure.
"It's good that you know him, ma'am... he is my partner. I don't know what kind of relationship you have with the gentleman, but he and I are committed to a serious relationship, and I wouldn't want anyone to interfere with what we have built."
"Oh, sweetheart, are you Mr. Han Jisung? Minho told me about you." The man interrupted her before she could add anything else.
"Yes, I am the man he told you about... I wouldn't want to hurt you but, he is mine to love, I don't know if that ring he wears on his ring finger is his but, he and I are more than everything, our souls are intertwined . Please, I ask you not to try something with him, you don't deserve to be hurt."
The beautiful woman's eyes opened at such words, and then closed slightly when she a smile formed on her face, was she making fun of him? What did she find funny about the situation? Didn't she understand the seriousness of the situation?
"Oh Jisung," She approached the singer a little, taking his cold hands. "we've been married for a few months now."
He felt his world break, how was that possible if a few nights ago the man he loved had promised to live next to his in this and the lives they still had to live? Was it possible to make those loving promises with an empty soul?
He could only stammer out a broken “What?” before he felt his vision blur, he couldn't believe it, he didn't want to believe it, he wouldn't.
The warm hands that were still holding him pulled him lightly into a hug. Was the woman his partner had a marriage with hugging him? Why was she doing it? He was the person they cheated on her with every day she had spent since her marriage, so she shouldn't have to feel empathy for him, should she?
"Jisung, it's not what you think," She gently pushed him so he could look at him. "Minho and I are married but he loves you."
"Eh?" The young man only managed to say, he didn't know if she was lying to him so that he wouldn't cry in front of all those people or if she was telling him the truth.
"Really, honey, he and I are married to keep up appearances, we are great friends… We both have a partner outside of the relationship, he talks to me about you, how I talk to him about her." She turned his face looking for someone else among the sea of wealthy people.
A female figure approached the scene after a sign from her boyfriend's wife, her scarlet dress contrasted with the dress that her companion was wearing, it made them look like two majestic deities, her skin the color of gold and her hair as black as the night made her unique in anyone's eyes... then he noticed that she was wearing an identical necklace to the blonde lady who was still holding his hand. The women embraced each other warmly, as if they wanted to merge into a single soul and body... just as he and Minho did.
He had been completely wrong.
He apologized to the lady who had intertwined his destiny with the love of his life, so that they could be free together... he felt so ashamed for behaving in such a childish way without knowing what was happening, he wanted to disappear at that moment, never to see her again, never to see all those people, to never come back…
Until his waist was embraced by such large and soft hands.
"Were you waiting for me?" A voice he knew perfectly purred in his ear. "Why didn't you go into the dressing room? You know the way, don't you?"
The contact was brief, as if it had never happened, he knew that people would not understand it, but he wanted more, he wanted to be dragged to hell by the warmth of his partner's body on his, his wet kisses all over his neck, by his words and ideas that took him beyond the limits of what was known, he wanted to be everything with Minho and for everyone to know it.
"I think you've already met Claudia, forgive me for not telling you about her before, I swear I'll make it up to you, love."
"Minho... you must tell me everything, I love you and you know that I will understand everything that happens around you, no matter what it is," Jisung pleaded, looking his partner in the eyes, "just trust me."
"Forgive me, Jisung, don't cry for this, please, my swallow." Regardless of who was looking at them, the oldest hugged the singer in his arms. "Something like this will never happen again, we will be free. You and me."

I have to say as someone who hasn’t been convinced on zendaya’s acting (largely because she’s getting cast as pretty one dimensional characters *disclaimer I haven’t seen euphoria) I feel like Challengers actually sold me on her range. I think the lack of chemistry between her and the two men makes sense. She fully perceives them as beneath her. There is definitely more chemistry between Art and Patrick (both sexual and emotional) because Tashi always cared more about tennis than either of them. I agree with you that the love triangle is more tashi and patrick fighting over art but tashi doesn’t want him because she’s at all interested in him. He’s a way for her to vicariously have her tennis career. She clearly doesn’t respect him at all in any romantic sense
it's so funny that you said this because i've been arguing with my friend about zendaya's one dimensional characters except she thinks zendaya can't act at all loll but also i don't think tashi perceives the boys as beneath her i just think she has different priorities than them. keep in mind she is a lower income black woman who played tennis as a way to uplift her family from poverty while art and patrick are rich white boys who don't have to play tennis. obviously the two of them were never going to understand her in the sense that she played tennis because she was driven by necessity and she loved it. she had to love it. if a tennis match is a relationship, understood by the two on the court, then there was never going to be as intimate an understanding between tashi and patrick/art. but like tashi says there's a moment that is understood by everyone. that's what connects them especially in the finale. that's the understanding the three of them come to. eventually.
anyway. tashi was never going to be what they wanted her to be and personally i think she made that rather clear in the beginning when she was trying to give patrick unsolicited tennis advice. i think the three of them have a complex relationship dynamic. tashi thought art was going to be more malleable thus more receptive to her advice and when she had her injury her coaching was all she had. and i think she was in denial thinking art continued tennis because he himself wanted to instead of doing it because tashi wanted him too. patrick was full of himself and like tashi said he was coasting by on talent. maybe once he had the drive and the ambition but he was too proud to ask for help. anyway art didn't really deserve anything that happened to him which is why in the end i think the TRUE triangle was patrick and tashi fighting over art which is shown when patrick goes AGAINST what tashi wants for art despite the two of them "coming to an agreement" they both want different things for him. art is ultimately what they're fighting for.

GG2OMC (ENGLISH): THAT MAN - ISOTOPE & ISOLATION
Tumblr media
Word Count: 1645 Warnings: None Chapter Index & Credits Page・ Mobile Friendly Version Archive.org download page (.PDF + uncompressed art scans)
Having completed the basic theory of the force of law, humanity began researching applications of that theory in various fields without a break. Each country, in pursuit of their own interests, invested heavily in this research and recruited top scientists in rapid succession. These scientists, too, were striving to develop new technologies in this new field in a favorable environment. At the forefront of applied legal research was a semi-state-run research institute in the United States of America where three up-and-coming young minds were gathered.
“Oh my god! He’s smoking in the lab again!”
Aria, who had shoulder-length red hair and a folder tucked under her arm, opened the door and slid into the lab. She was the only woman in the group and was undeniably talented, having obtained a doctorate in information engineering in her teens. Her mature behavior made her seem older than her actual age, but the occasional gesture or mannerism still showed the face of an innocent young woman.
“Zip it. This ain’t a cigarette.”
A man who was sitting by a window, looking listless, responded. Frederick was a tall man with a toned physique more like an athlete than a researcher. Two years older than Aria, he held a degree in particle physics and was a leading researcher in the recently established field of force of law energy physics.
“...Oh! You noticed then?”
“...No, not really… Sure, I noticed.”
“Aw, come on! Aren’t you usually like, “You look good today, man,” or whatever? Ah, as expected. It gives me chills imagining you saying something sensible…”
With a sniff, Frederick looked away.
“Haha, that’s quite dramatic…”
A slender man who served as the head of the laboratory appeared quietly, holding a steaming cup of coffee in both hands. He was also a young genius scientist who studied life science at a young age and played a role in the completion of the basic theory of the force of law and its mechanics. He had since shifted his major to bioinformatics, and as the head of the laboratory, he was leading the research on applied forensic mechanics.
“Oh, good morning! It's getting warmer, and the long hours are getting in the way of my work..."
"Mm, you're looking a lot brighter today.”
"Wow! Really?”
"Hmph, looks like you're finally getting out of your schoolboy mood…” Frederick said, bitterly.
"Haha... Here, Frederick. Be careful, it's hot.”
He handed him the cup of freshly brewed black coffee. Frederick took the cup silently and sipped it.
“...So, were you two up all night again?”
“Yeah, well, I must admit I wasn’t working. We got into a little bit of a conversation…”
“I wouldn't call five hours ‘little’…"
Frederick looked disinterested, and then he said venomously, "Ugh, five hours. I don’t know how you two don’t get bored… So, what were you talking about?”
“We were talking about events that still remain controversial in our time.”
"What a disappointment. That’s not much different than talking about your job…”
Aria sighed. Frederick, ignoring her, continued, “We and science are not all-powerful. There are things we can't understand or solve.”
“I don't deny that, of course. What I am saying is that there is a difference between ‘events we cannot unravel due to our lack of understanding’ and ‘events we cannot perceive in the first place.’”
“What do you mean by ‘imperceptible events?’"
“For example... Yes, the existence of God. Let's put aside religious belief for the moment, but we can understand the concept of God. But we have not scientifically proven the actual existence of God.”
“God is God, and that’s it. Apparently whoever believes in Him will be saved.”
“I used a bad metaphor. Let's talk about something more familiar. Our bodies are composed of about 60 trillion cells, whose roles are determined by DNA. In the 20th century, we finally figured out how this worked.”
“You're the one with the expertise..."
Frederick nodded arrogantly then sipped his coffee.
“But we don’t truly know by whom or even how this mechanism was constructed.”
“Who said that..? It was the result of trial and error woven by nature, wasn't it? If you fail, you start over. If you succeed, you move on to the next step. Of course, there must have been mutations.”
"Aria... Do you think that all of this, including the mutations, is an accident of nature?"
“I don't see how it could be any other way…”
“That's far too stochastic. Though, probability theory is your area of expertise.”
"Probabilistically, you're right. But what else is there?”
An impatient Frederick urged him on.
“Sorry, Frederick. Let's jump to a conclusion. What kind of being has the power to direct the course of events in a single direction? A being that defines in detail the course of every event in the world.”
“Alright, so that would be a god, then?”
“It is close to that concept. Let's call it ‘God’. And if ‘God’ is something we cannot perceive fundamentally..."
“Even if it did exist, what’s there to be worried about..?“
“Do you know what a 'missing link’ is? It’s a term used to describe a significant gap in the expected continuity of an event when a discontinuity is observed. To use a simple biological analogy, it’s a situation in which the existence of Species B, which should have occurred during the evolutionary process from Species A to Species C, is completely missing. So, how does the missing link occur? I believe that this phenomenon is a control error by ‘God’. In other words, ‘God's’ definition of events does not always work as it should. So… why then does a control error occur? Is the mechanism itself flawed, or is it encouraged to mutate by a third party..? I believe it is the latter. That is to say, a "third party" intervenes in the evolution from Species A to Species B, which was determined by ‘God’ as the natural course of events, and suggests evolution to Species C... or eliminates the possibility of evolution to Species B. In any case, the original evolution was to evolve to Species C via Species B, but the "third party" rewrites the program to evolve directly to Species C. I call this third party ‘divine revelation.’”
“W-wait a minute! That’s not easy to understand at all…”
Aria pouted. Frederick saw this and followed by folding his arms.
“It isn’t necessary to increase the length of a 1-meter giraffe's neck from 2 meters to 3 meters to 4 meters to make it 10 meters long. Make it 10 meters all at once. Rewrite its DNA. However, he's saying that this rewriting of DNA is not the work of a god but some kind of ‘revelation.’”
“I get the logic, but it's a bit far-fetched. Besides, if it's a being that encourages successful evolution, then what's the problem?”
“No, that's not always the case. There are a small number of extinct species among those for which the missing link has been identified. The ultimate goal of biological evolution is the perpetuation of a species. Therefore, extinct species cannot be considered an evolutionary success story. This is also true for us humans. If ‘divine revelation’ intervenes and forces us to evolve in the wrong direction while we are trying to evolve properly, we are doomed.”
The tone grew more serious and the color drained from Aria’s face.
"...Aria, it’s all bullshit. Don’t take it seriously.”
“Haha, that’s a heartless thing to say, Frederick. Call it a hypothesis.”
“Ok, so what do you really think, Fred?”
"It's best if you find your own way. I couldn't stand it being decided for me... That's all."
“I’m glad. We’re on the same page, then…”

Beep. Be-beep. Beep. Be-beep. Beep. Be-beep.
An electronic warning alarm echoed in the darkened room.
"Oh my, I've exceeded the overflow limit again..."
A tall man dressed all in black clicked his tongue loathsomely. He tapped the console to stop the device. Then the man walked to the end of a terminal, a huge coffin-like structure, solemnly as if he was approaching an altar.
With a flick of a switch, the lid of the device was removed without a sound. A few moments later, a pale, slender boy rose from inside the device. The structure’s interior was filled with a colorless liquid, blocking interference from the outside world. This highly viscous liquid clung to the boy's naked body.
The boy's brain plasma was connected to over hundreds of tiny metallic threads. The procedure involved reattaching memory data to the hippocampus. More specifically, it was the process of receiving backups of stored memories from the HPC server and restoring lost memories.
The procedure to rejuvenate the body had the fatal flaw of causing a high rate of memory clouding and loss. For that reason, the boy temporarily stored his memories in advance in preparation for permanent memory loss.
“How are you feeling?”
“My senses feel fresh and finely honed. The restoration was completed without any problems.”
“Though, rejection of juvenile hormones is troublesome..."
“It is not originally a human bioactive substance. In the meantime, these memory data will continue to be backed up in advance.”
“...Hm”
The man in the black cloak with the word “raven” written on it, bowed his head reverently.
“Incidentally, how are you doing? You seemed to have had subtle brainwave disturbances during the session..."
“...Indeed, I was reminded of a memory from long ago. Perhaps my emotions got the better of me.”

Tumblr media
i’ve been feeling this way for a while, but i’m serious when i say that the reblog to like ratio on artists’ creations (not “content”!! creations!) actually makes me sick to my stomach
Tumblr media
most of these posts i’ve found have a reblog count that’s not even one fifth the amount of likes
Tumblr media
and it just gets worse every day. it doesn’t matter how “popular” it’s perceived to be—an artist is considered “lucky” to have notes like this
Tumblr media
of course, most people who don’t care have already looked away—and I know nothing is going to change on a large scale, but i still feel the need to talk about it.
why is this the way that it is? are people worried about their blog aesthetic? that can’t be it, the likes can’t contain That Many aesthetic blogs…could it be that they’re worried about getting In Trouble for reblogging the Wrong ship art? Perhaps, but that’s also stupid—this isn’t just an issue with “problematic” ships or rare pairs, but also the most popular of ships. it’s a tumblr-wide issue
of course, there’s also other forms of art, like edits/graphic design
Tumblr media
and, of course, my writing, which is so embarrassing i hesitate to even show it
Tumblr media
i’m honestly lucky to find one with a reblog—some have up to 20 likes and no reblogs
Tumblr media
this was one of my lucky ones. it’s lucky that even one sixth of the people who liked this wanted to reblog—heck, one or more of those might have been me self-reblogging (not that there’s anything wrong with that ofc)
now, before people accuse me in particular of wanting popularity—i do, but that’s besides the point. i am sick of this on the behalf of artists, who are so immensely talented, it’s heartbreaking to see that so little people want to share their work.
i don’t care if my works get 5 notes, but the fact that no one reblogs it tells me that my works aren’t good enough. that’s not me being melodramatic—what else do you expect creators to think when they have a piece with 20 likes and 1 reblog? of course you’re going to wonder, despite this being an issue with Everyone, what is wrong with your creation in particular.
and, of course, i could go on about the added “hits versus kudos versus comments” issue on ao3, but everything i want to say has been said before
the lack of engagement in fandom coupled up with the increasing entitlement (coupled up with the “walking on eggshells” of the rise in purity culture, but that’s another post)—it’s made fandom a not-so-fun space to create in. of course, i still love it—i still intend to create and share my works with anyone who will enjoy it while i watch discouraged artists deactivate and the people who enjoyed their content ask why they left.
i just hope when people see these posts about reblogging and The State of Fandom, they don’t feel like things are just going to get worse until a crash—anyone can make things better. every reblog and nice tag makes a world of difference.

BG3 fic writing 2023 summary meme!
stolen from @sybaritick (oooohhh you wanna read cal's fics so bad ooohhh)
What are your A03 stats? How many words written, how many hits, kudos, and comments?
Tumblr media
Did you have a favourite canon character to write? i have only written gale and astarion, so out of the two probably astarion! i'm still trying to 'find their voice' but i'm more of a fan of writing his internal thoughts and dialogue. gale is too verbose for me LOL
Did you have a favourite OC to write? i did not write any OC stuff LMAO
Which fic was your most popular? Kneading, my first fic. it was posted at the end of september, when there wasn't many BW fics yet!
Which fic was your personal favourite? probably Wizard's Tower. i like the fluff and smut in it the most :3
Was there anything you wrote that was a surprise to you? Why? probably this fic as a whole because i'm sooo much more used to writing fluffy romantic stuff that trying to write anything toxic or angsty is so out of my comfort zone LMFAO
What is your favourite piece of description you wrote? Why do you like it? from this fic, cuz i'm a sucker for pred/prey dynamics >:)
Astarion took a moment, peering down at him poker-faced. Whenever their eyes had met throughout the day caused a strange sensation to shoot through his body, one Gale had failed to place until now. A physiological reaction - his body responding to a perceived threat. Fight or flight, one could call it. He wouldn't consider himself scared of the pale elf, but his body recognised him as a danger nonetheless. A predator, eyeing his prey.
What was your favourite piece of dialogue you wrote? Why do you like it? from this fic, cuz i liked gale quite rightly telling astarion off, even if they're both insufferable as god/vampire lord. toxic divorcees my beloved
“Has it not yet occurred to you that perhaps I did not want to be found?!” he snapped, though the anger was brief and his demeanour morphed into one more sombre. “Astarion, you betrayed me. We made a promise to each other, and you waited until our companions were long gone to turn on me. When I finally achieved the Godhood I so ardently longed for, all I could think of upon my return is that I had no one to share it with.”
What was your overall feeling about your writing in 2023? What were you proud of? What were the highlights? i hadn't written a fic for about 12 years. idk what it is about BG3 and bloodweave but i had so many ideas i couldn't convey through art alone that i felt obligated to start writing fics.
writing has helped me make lots of friends who are so skilled and talented, and i admire them sooo much. i want to improve and get on their level so i feel more deserving of the attention i get. i feel like i get better with each new fic/chapter!
What would you like to explore more in 2024? learn more big words LOL uhhh maybe get better with more flowery prose? i feel like my writing is lacking in that regard. we'll see! it'd also be nice to commit to more multichapter stuff. i have a bunch of oneshot ideas but it'd be nice to have consistently updated bigger fics. idk i'm just winging it!!!!!!!!!!

Artists and artlovers
There is a show in my county every October that invites artists to open their studios and have the public come through. Most artists “cluster” three or four to a space; I set up in a woodworker’s shop and enjoy it every year. The weird things about the folks who come through to see the art, though, (and hopefully buy some) is how many people are determined to talk about their own perceived lack of artistic talent.
“Oh, I could NEVER”
“I couldn’t draw an apple!”
“I have NO artistic talent whatsoEVER!”
and, well, ok? You don’t have to. You are here to look at art and meet the artists. Why do you INSIST on talking about your own skills/lack of? It’s one of those things that, once you hear it too many times, becomes very grating. I do NOT know what to say to that! “Cool, you talentless hack, buy my paintings!”?
A friend of mine did that when we were having lunch together. Because she IS a friend, and a pretty rational person, I called her on it. “How many books have you bought?” the answer is a LOT “How many people could write books if people weren’t buying them? That is YOUR job! Not to be the creator, but to support the works! Without support and buyers, nobody would paint - or write.”
Tumblr media
Anyway. The woodworker has the most amazing studio. All the machinery and projects-in-process are behind that closed door, and folks can look in there, too. I hope the show goes on as normal this fall.

The History of Korean Girl Groups' evolution over time - Before Liberation to Girls Generation (SNSD) -> Part 3
I would like to mention before you continue reading that I have been summarizing and briefly going over the information I found. I encourage you all to do further research on this topic as it is very interesting, especially for those interested in older Kpop/Korean Music like myself.
As I mentioned earlier, there is a lot of information available, but at the same time, there isn't much specifically about the music side of Korea's history. I will provide sources for all my posts at the end if anyone is interested.
Now, let me give you a quick summary of becoming a Kisaeng. For more detailed information, you can refer to my previous post. In this post, I will continue discussing what Kisaeng's did up until the 1930s.
Becoming a Kisaeng
The Kisaeng was a skilled working class, and was established in the Joseon period through various paths. Women were either daughters of Kisaeng or sold into the class by families struggling to support them. The government took an early interest in ensuring correct education, starting with the establishment of Gyobang (교방;敎坊) training institutes during the Goryeo period.
Tumblr media
Young Kisaeng's with a Gayageum/ Kayagum (가야금;伽倻琴). A traditional Korean musical instrument.
During the Joseon period, instructors focused on music and dance. The three-tiered system of later Joseon included specialized training schools for Kisaeng, covering poetry, dance, music, and art. This system continued into the Japanese colonial period, during which time the schools training Kisaeng were known as Gwonbeon (권번).
Kisaeng and Geisha
During my investigation into the history of Kisaeng, I initially believed that Kisaeng would remain unchanged and continue to be uniquely Korean. However, I discovered that the training and education of Kisaeng underwent significant changes when Japan colonized Korea in 1910. Note - I am not saying that Geisha and Kisaeng's are the same, one is better than the other, or they copied each other, both Geisha and Kisaeng cultures are different the only similarities that they have are that they were highly-trained artist women who entertained men with music, conversation, and poetry.
Gisaeng were highly skilled entertainers who excelled in various art forms such as poetry, calligraphy, painting, dancing, and singing. They were the only women in a strictly hierarchical society who had the opportunity to engage in these activities traditionally associated with men. These talented women received rigorous training at institutions like Janghakwon, which was responsible for music and dance at royal ceremonies during the Joseon Dynasty. Even after the government's disappearance, private Kisaeng schools continued their role, providing comprehensive education that included not only traditional arts but also foreign arts.
Tumblr media
Panoramic view and class scenes of gisaeng school in Pyongyang.
Unfortunately, the culture surrounding gisaeng underwent significant distortion during the late Joseon Dynasty. The Kisaeng system was abolished in 1909, leaving restaurants as the only platform for Kisaeng performances. The image of gisaeng was further distorted when the Japanese government introduced a public singing system that grouped gisaeng with prostitutes and entertainers. As a result, Kisaeng began to be perceived as courtesans or individuals lacking traditional artistic value. In contrast, Geisha in Japan have managed to survive and maintain their revered status as entertainers to this day. However, some Kisaeng's managed to adapt to the changing times and emerged as popular stars through mediums like radio, magazines, and movies.
Japanese Kisaeng (Geisha)
Geisha, or Yegi (藝者), is a term used to describe Japanese Kisaeng, a system that originated in Japan between 1688 and 1704. Geisha's were skilled in traditional Japanese arts and were responsible for delivering professional hospitality. Initially men, they changed in the 18th century when women took over the role. Geisha's are known for their vibrant and elegant kimonos, which they pair with red lips against their white-powdered faces.
During the Japanese colonial period, the Gwonbeonbeon in Seoul was different from traditional Korean Kisaengbeonbeon. Japanese brothels were more akin to Yechanggi (藝娼妓), public servants in brothels, aiming to centralize prostitution in specific areas and prevent private brothels from spreading into residential neighborhoods. By 1924, the number of brothels in Japan had increased significantly, reaching 544 establishments.
The Shinmachi red-light district in Seoul was a prominent location for prostitution during the Japanese colonial period. The Shinmachi Red House Association was formed in the western part of the district, where customers could personally select women from a lineup or through numbered photo albums displayed on the walls of the establishments.
Tumblr media
Photo of the Midori-machi brothel in Busan during the Japanese colonial period.
The history of'resthouse villages' reflects the remnants of Japan's colonial rule and its impact on various regions. For example, the Wanwol-dong brothel village in Busan traces its roots back to the establishment of the 'Midorimachi Red Center' in 1907. This area, referred to as Sohwatong by the Japanese, served as a hub for brothels that eventually spread across the country.
The transition from the 'public brothel system' to the post-liberation era marked a shift in the dynamics of these villages, reflecting the changing socio-political landscape over time.
In modern times, it is important to note that some women who engage solely in prostitution may falsely identify themselves as Geisha's, disregarding the true essence of the profession.
The Pyongyang Kisaeng School tourist attraction during the Japanese colonial period
The historical significance of the Pyongyang Kisaeng School, which was a renowned tourist attraction during the Japanese colonial period, greatly contributes to the cultural heritage of the Korean Entertainment Industry. The abundance of information available about the school's existence and operation during that time period adds to its historical value. This knowledge not only enhances our understanding of the school's role in Korean entertainment but also sheds light on the broader historical context in which it thrived.
During the Goryeo and Joseon periods, Kisaeng's attended training institutes to receive proper education. The government showed early interest in this by establishing Gyobang, a training institute during the Goryeo period. This educational system continued into the Japanese colonial period, where Kisaeng training schools were called Gwonbeon.
In the 1930s, many tourist groups visiting Joseon were eager to see Kisaeng's, and the most sought-after place to witness their traditional beauty was the Pyongyang Kisaeng School. Originally named 'Pyongyang Giseonggwonbeon Kisaeng Training Center,' (평양 기성권번 기생양성소) it operated as a three-year school near the Daedong/ Taedong River (대동강), with support from around 10 large-scale restaurants in the area.

During that period, the curriculum varied for each grade, with different content for each of the three years. First-year students were taught songs like Ujo (우조;羽調) and Gyemyeonjo (계면조;界面調), along with subjects like Pyeongsijo (평시아), Gojo (고조;高調), Saseojo (사서조;詞說調), the Four Gentlemen, Chinese rhymes, Korean language, and arithmetic.
Moving on to the second year, students learned more advanced Sijo such as Gwansan Yungma (관산융마;完山龍馬), Baekgusa (백구사;白口寺), Hwanggyesa (황계사), and Eobusa (에부사), as well as various musical instruments like Saenghwang, flute, Yanggeum, Geomungo, and Jeotdae.
The third year excluded Yangsando and Bangataryeong from the curriculum due to their perceived lower level, and instead focused on teaching Seungmu, Geommu, and dance based on guest requests.

Upon graduating, they relocated to various cities such as Seoul, Sinuiju, or Daegu, with approximately 70% of the 180 graduates choosing to go abroad. While many students who enrolled in the Kisaeng school hailed from Pyongyang, there were also a significant number from Seoul, Hwanghae Province, and Pyeongan Province. The school boasted two esteemed masters, Park Myeong-hwa and Gimhae-sa, who taught singing, while painting was taught by Suam.
In 1934, four years later, the number of students increased to 250 and the subjects taught at Pyeongyang Kisaeng School underwent changes. The curriculum offered a surprisingly diverse range of subjects, providing students with a comprehensive education.
The Pyongyang Kisaeng School catered to children aged between 13 and 15 who had completed the 6th grade of regular school. Similar to a girls' school, it operated on a semester system and charged monthly tuition fees. For first-year students, the monthly payment was 2 won, while second-year students paid the same amount. Third-year students, on the other hand, had a slightly higher monthly fee of 3 won. Additionally, there was an admission fee of 3 won for each student.

In my view, when comparing the education of Kisaeng students to the training of modern idols, there are striking similarities between them both. For instance, foreign members of idol groups must learn Korean, while both foreign and Korean members are required to master skills such as singing, dancing, playing instruments if necessary, and even writing lyrics before making their debut. Both Kisaeng students and idols are required to dedicate themselves fully to their craft, demonstrating a commitment to excellence and a willingness to continually improve their skills in order to achieve their goals.
The first semester ran from April 1 to August 31, the second semester from September 1 to December 31, and the third semester from January 1 to March 31. President Ki Seong-kwon (기성권) served as the principal of this school. Pyongyang's Kisaeng school gained a reputation and attracted visitors from Shanghai, Nanjing, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, and other locations.
I couldn't find any pictures of President Ki Seong-kwon (기성권) who served as the principal for the Kisaeng School.
The study learned at Kisaeng school is Kisaeng (妓學) - Prostitution.
During the period of Japanese colonial rule, schools were closely monitored by the security police. Women who pledged their allegiance as Japanese imperial subjects were then enlisted as members of the Ministry of Defense. In this context, the purpose of establishing schools for Kisaeng, who were considered the epitome of entertainment and laughter at social gatherings, was to provide them with vocational education.
Kisaeng were regarded as professional women who inherited their skills from previous generations, and as such, these schools focused on teaching various crafts, techniques, and even Gihak.

1939 Pyongyang Kisaeng School 3rd grade class schedule
Tumblr media
The timetable provided showcases the class schedule for 210 third-grade students at Pyeongyang Kisaeng School back in 1939. The classes were named after a 'Japanese spear', reflecting the diverse range of subjects taught at the school. Notably, the schedule did not include departments such as Changga and Dance for the first year, and Sijo and Akjeon for the second year.
This comprehensive curriculum was so varied that it was considered a single discipline known as ‘Gihak (妓學)’. The students were carefully assigned to fields based on their strengths by senior Kisaeng's and renowned female teachers who excelled in spear techniques. They were instructed in various skills, including playing the gayageum, based on their proficiency levels. Initially, they were taught how to produce sounds, a challenging task that required rigorous training for 3 to 4 months, during which they refrained from eating to master a wide range of tones.
Furthermore, the students were trained in the pronunciation of custom sounds and the proper way to strike their knees, following a step-by-step guide on hand and leg movements. Approximately 50 to 60 female students emulated these movements, swaying their shoulders gracefully and singing in unison. The dance performances at the Kisaeng school were renowned for their sword and monk dances during that era.
However, by the late 1930s, these dances were merely symbolic, reflecting a decline in interest in classical arts among the audience. The curriculum also included classes on 'etiquette' and 'conversation', where students learned the art of serving and interacting with male customers. Detailed instructions were provided on every aspect of hosting a banquet, from walking and sitting to pouring drinks, making facial expressions, bidding farewell to guests, and entertaining them in the kitchen. While technical skills were essential for excelling as a Kisaeng, there was also an emphasis on innate talent and the ability to captivate men through charm.
The presence of exemplary Kisaeng seniors within the school environment further enriched the learning experience, as the school was closely associated with the Kisaeng office, fostering a culture of mentorship and guidance.

In the 14th Showa edition of Modern Japan/Joseon, there is an article titled "What is taught in gisaeng schools ?" It is written by a person named Han Jae-deok (韓載德) who  went to Pyongyang's gisaeng school to report on it, it contained the fact that there are 210 students and the third-year schedule.
Pyongyang Kisaeng School
The Pyongyang Kisaeng School has been known for producing some of the most talented Kisaeng/ Korean singers who made a significant impact on the music scene during the 1930s. Graduates from this prestigious school have gone on to dominate the popular music industry, showcasing their exceptional skills and captivating performances.
The Kisaeng school in Bubyeokru, Pyongyang, is a 70-year-old establishment that combines Korean and Western influences. The school is known for its unique atmosphere, with a mix of Korean and Western houses. The school features a dance classroom, a musician's seat, and a meeting place for famous Nogis to share their experiences and receive ethics education.
The downstairs classroom is a song classroom decorated like the largest hall in Seoul, with 80 to 90 students learning meditation songs and singing. The school also has an unblocked oriental medicine room, where students can establish their voice through noise.
The calligraphy and painting room is a required subject for first-year students, requiring them to practice meditation with the Mindless Pen. The school has about 250 students, who are taught in three semesters. In the first year, students learn song, calligraphy, painting, singing, Korean language, arithmetic, and Korean. In the second year, they learn Ujo, Sijo, Gasa, Korean language, arithmetic, calligraphy, painting, singing, and dance. In the third year, students learn lyrics, dance, miscellaneous songs, singing, Japanese songs, Eastern and Western music, calligraphy and painting, and martial arts.
In summary, the gisaeng school in Bubyeokru (부벽루) is a unique blend of Korean and Western influences, offering a unique learning experience for students.

What I mean by "reconstructing an untold story"
(This post has been sitting on the back burner of my mind for months, I need to write it, however imperfectly.)
What do I mean by “reconstructing an untold story”?
The story would have been a told story, if the authors/ protagonists told it themselves:
the sequence of events connected together by intention and coincidence;
the aspirations;
the movements of the soul that always precede the movements of the body;
the choices: the alternatives that were present and the criteria for decisions;
the dilemmas and the reasons behind actions;
the feelings behind facial expressions or the seeming lack thereof;
the antagonists, as in impersonal big environment, and various quite specific persons;
the cultural constraints and the colliding requirements of modernity and tradition;
the strengths and the weaknesses;
the personal voice, the particular sense of humour, and the quirks, that create a particular atmosphere;
the moments of transcendence that connect the private and personal to the vaster social and existential;
the symbolism of everyday images and events;
the way the protagonists have transformed due to facing and overcoming the challenges;
the way the protagonists have transformed due to being with each other and for each other.
But the authors, so far, are not telling, and may they be safe keeping their silence for as long as it is needed.
What we witness is
crumbs, either an external view, or somebody else’s impression and interpretation (rumours), or first-person narrative in interviews (to be taken cum granu salis in regard to its truthfulness given the conditions all utterance in that country are uttered in (or under)); or the breakthroughs of behaviours that don’t match the projected persona at the moment, and thus assumed to be breakthroughs of sincerity and genuineness. Also we have their creative self-expression in visual and verbal arts (I consider cryptic posts to be such creative self-expression).
We have dots on a timeline, and to make it an ongoing good story, we have to actively reconstruct it, read into it. Like the drama in two lines of airport flight schedule, separated by just a few hours. What we have is two lines; what we read into it is the anticipation, the longing, the creative communication under surveillance of different sorts, the feeling of connection, the stress and the tiredness, the precious time together, and then the parting, again, with all the feelings that come with the parting, and the expression of appreciation of the precious time.
The richer and the more nuanced is the reader’s ability to perceive such things,
the more experience, personal or acquired through attentive observation of other people, listening to them, reading books etc., the reader has,
the more cultural context, of the protagonists’ culture, of the reader’s culture and of other cultures, the reader can tie the situation to, —
the richer would be their reading-into these scarce crumbs and short lines.
We identify with one of the protagonists, or with both, but usually with one a little bit more than with the other. We identify more with the protagonist whose dilemmas and tasks of personal development have some semblance to our own, however different the parameters of the social situation would be (...the riches and the fame, the surveillance and the threat of prosecution, even being young, male, freakishly talented and handsome are all elements of “social situation” here for me).
We also read-into the story what we want to receive confirmation of, against all odds. Amor vincit omnia. Romance is very much not dead. There can be relationships of equals where each hears the needs of (the heart of) the other and responds, and no one is pushed by default into the role of the one “emotionally servicing” the relationship. Righteousness, in the best sense, will win over evil. A sincere heart will always recognise a sincere heart. One (…two!) can be not corrupted by fame and riches, but remain pure at heart, humble and hard-working morally beautiful persons. The world’s future has more hope with these two in it.
Can we truly see them as they are? Hardly, each of us fans are just a one in millions, and in the rational world, the probability of each of us becoming a friend of theirs trusted enough as to be shown their true faces, is minuscule. The ones who believe they truly understand them need to perform regular reality checks, maybe as frequent as taking blood sugar levels if you are diabetic (…this is a note to self, too, because no one is constantly immune to such delusions of grandeur).
What we see in our reconstructions of their untold story is our possible best lives, our possible best selves; and this is exceptionally important and precious, to be able to consistently look at something through loving eyes and to see what it is that we appreciate in life. Beauty. Honesty. Commitment. Playfulness. Believing in oneself and the other. I can go on and on here.
And then, hopefully, transform our own lives in such a way that there will be more of these values present and embodied.

A demure and quiet witch, Lisette is extremely polite and soft-spoken. She has an undeniable talent for the fine arts and a princess like aura which she exudes. It’s only amplified by her ladylike demeanor and mannerisms. She also places a great emphasis on how she looks which leads some people to perceive her as self-centered, and shallow. Lisette is also very loyal to a fault and is unforgiving towards people who hurt her, sometimes resulting in years of grudges on her end. She’s also perfectionistic and overly self conscious as shown in her eating habits . Years of living in fear also made  her  paranoid and scornful of authority figures and led her to distrust, fear or even resent people in positions of power, a few notable examples being Albus Dumbledore and Patricia Rakepick.
Lisette can also be petty and childish at times such as auditioning for a place in the frog choir in order to spite Merula. She’s also fond of skincare and makeup in general and has an eye for fashion which then helps her form a close bond with Andre.

Transfiguration: O
(She’s just really good at it…besides 50% of her childhood consisted of fairy tales involving some form of transfiguration so she naturally has some passion on this subject)
Potions: O
(She’s gifted at potions, besides Snape actually thinks she’s a good student. Oh and not to mention, spending time with Penny improved her potion making skills)
Charms: O

Care of Magical Creatures: A
(She barely passed…and she’s scared of creatures that are deemed dangerous)
Herbology: A
(She’s good at identifying herbs…but taking care of plants which are not flowers…she’s awful at it. On the bright side, Sprout is fond of her though)
Flying: P
(She’s scared of flying ok…like being up on the air is bad enough but having to move without support…she’ll pass)
Defense Against the Dark Arts: D
(She’s good at dueling and protective charms. but two words. Dueling anxiety. And she detests and fears Rakepick too which also hinders her ability to learn. She gets A in Olivia Green’s classes though

character meta: junko enoshima and class 77-b
obviously, we know the primary difference between anime canon and game canon is how they got on board: in the anime, we're shown that they were all brainwashed by a broadcast of chiaki's execution, and that junko's encounter with them prior to that was complete chance- in fact, class 77-b was the class that attempted to stop junko with motivations that are akin to makoto-levels of hope. power of friendship, scaaary!
however, the sixth chapter of sdr2 shows a completely different version of events, which makes junko as a villain a lot more compelling- and i think adds a layer of complexity to the cast that i find lacking in the anime.
before we go on, i would like to clarify one thing: in the final class trials, junko doesn't lie. in fact, monokuma tells the sdr2 survivors that everything he's talking about in the manga he scatters around the ruins are as true as they can be- and seeing as he intends the survivors of thh to see everything that's happening, i'm inclined to take junko's words as more or less the truth.
first off, i want to talk about my favourite part: junko's motive for targetting class 77-b!
Tumblr media
(on a tangent, one thing i find interesting about this exchange in the final trial is that it seems that junko has trained the remnants to not talk about why they became ultimate despair, assuming makoto is referring to interviewing the remnants themselves.)
junko says "if you ask me"- which means it's safe to say this is why junko targeted the class in the first place. she's not talking about the reasons the class 77-b students personally bought into her ideology- i will talk about that later in this meta. i've mentioned her reasons before in a previous thinkpiece, and i believe this exchange proves my theory right- class 77-b was targeted because they perfectly encapsulated the world that hope's peak's ideology strives for: a world in which talented people are born talented- and because of that, hold absolute power.
class 78, a.k.a junko's class, emphasise the students' hard work towards reaching ultimate status- however, in class 77-b, many of the students were either chosen to be ultimates because they were born into it. this is evident in characters like fuyuhiko and sonia, who were born into their respective families and status, e.g. saionji (who was born into an arts clan), mahiru (whose mother was a photographer), twogami (who was born without an identity), akane (who was born with natural talent), and teruteru (who runs a family business). this ties in perfectly with what class 77-b represents on a metatextual level, and why junko wanted to target them in the first place.
Tumblr media
junko doesn't hold hope's peak's ideology of talent being hope in high regard, much less the people who buy into it. she is the antithesis to hope's peak ideology as someone who holds a talent that brings them nothing but despair. this is one of the many reasons why i believe she targeted hope's peak as ground zero for her plan to despair. this is supported by her remark when the sdr2 survivors begin to despair over whether they should graduate (and let junko take over the dead's bodies) or shut down the program (and remain ultimate despair).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
she perceives their reluctance as an attempt to have their cake and eat it too, hope's peak students who want to cling onto their talent and their idyllic lives, even in a nonsensical, absurd world, which she finds boring and predictable. i feel this is another reason why monokuma was not as invested in the killing island life as he was in thh.
junko targetting class 77-b feels like her driving her point in- she wants these pinnacles of hope's peak's ideology to fall hard and be the ones to fan the flames of her despair.
in a practical sense, junko needs numbers in order to spread her despair. in the final trial of sdr2, she mentions that ultimate despair are meant to be instigators: they're there to start shit for her when she can't. they're meant to upheave societal order with their own talents.
let's move on to how she recruited them! the games make it a point to say that ultimate despair isn't a typical organisation- in fact, ultimate despair functions more like a cult. a brand that goes against hope's peak's brand, so to speak.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
unlike the anime, the game says that the ultimate despairs were recruited one by one, and she took advantage of their already existing feelings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
though it's hard to say what exactly junko did to each character just by referring to the game dialogue, mikan and nagito are the two who corroborate monokuma's statement- especially mikan, with how she claims she isn't doing it for despair, but for love.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
monokuma says something that interests me about the new philosophy class 77-b obtained after coming into contact with junko:
Tumblr media
compared to the anime, in which class 77-b spread despair because they genuinely thought they were bettering the world.
Tumblr media
this makes class 77-b feel more desperate in their actions as ultimate despair: feeling like they have to do something to escape from junko's despair. i like the idea of this despair not necessarily being something that junko gives them, but instead being a looming threat. if junko gives them love, their despair would be junko taking away that love for whatever reason. if junko makes them hate, their despair would be junko turning that into love- which makes me think that each student's reasons for becoming ultimate despair are different from one another, and may not be motivated by the same feelings, or even from despair at all.
i think we've had enough talk about how class 77-b serves junko- so let's talk about how junko feels about them!
throughout sdr2, i feel that monokuma treated the class with a lot more contempt than he did the thh cast. he's more inclined to use force on them, physically dragging saionji and fuyuhiko to monokuma rock. he mocks their motives for killing by calling them boring, he outright falls asleep in one of the trials, he doesn't care about making nekomaru participate in the trial when he was taken out by his monokuma cannon, so on and so forth. even the motives he gave them were pretty weak and random.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this could be attributed to how the killing game isn't the thing junko's focusing on, because in this game junko is focused on broadcasting the killing game to the future foundation (in particular, makoto/kyoko/byakuya who went against future foundation orders to rehabilitate the remnants). but i do find monokuma's attitude throughout the game very interesting in the context of junko's feelings for class 77-b- especially with the knowledge that they are all remnants. we know from danganronpa if that ultimate despair aren't really affectionate towards each other- if they are, that means something is wrong. could that also be the reason for monokuma's hostility?
her feelings towards class 78 are simple: she loves them. there's no question about it. kodaka even calls her feelings towards them "toxic love"- but i think her feelings towards class 77-b, with what they represent to her, what purpose they serve for her, and what they ultimately become, are more complicated than just meaning nothing to her or loving them in her own way.
let's look at junko's reaction to the survivors' lack of convictions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
let's also see her reaction to hajime's resolution- and the level of her surprise, despite saying she's able to predict their behaviour because she has tons of data on them.
Tumblr media
and her final monologue after the trial, which draws a direct link between ryoko otonashi and the remnants' avatars.
Tumblr media
i've mentioned in a previous thinkpiece that junko, although is the antithesis to hope's peak's ideology, ultimately follows it as much as those who perfectly represent that ideology- such as class 77-b. her character is defined by the struggle to break free from that ideology as much as it is defined by chasing despair. what happens when class 77-b becomes ultimate despair?
i see many people see this line as proof that junko didn't care about them:
Tumblr media
but we know that the remnants replaced their limbs and organs with junko's after junko's death. keeping that in mind, i believe that this line doesn't mean that they're nothing to her. instead, i think this line means that ultimate despair became one with her. they shared her ideology, her desperation, desires and hopes. people who are like her, their personal feelings towards her be damned.
why else would she tamper the graduation program for them?
Tumblr media
why else would she insist she wants to be their friends? why else would she be fine with staying in the nwp with them?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
furthermore, the thh protagonist trio mentions that junko robs other people of their futures. i'm inclined to believe that this applies to herself too: junko has no future. she is actively hostile towards her future. in fact, she wants to constantly live in the present if she can help it. this is further aggravated by her susceptibility to boredom. the sdr2 cast are similar: they're fighting for a future they don't even know exists, and when they reach the end, they realise that future doesn't exist. they even gave up searching for a way to escape jabberwock island during the game unless encouraged by the observers.
i think that's why monokuma/junko constantly tells them that they're chumps, that they're only meant to play a role. because like how the remnants assigned themselves the roles of instigators for the battle between hope and despair, junko placed herself into a role: the embodiment of despair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
so, here's my conclusion: class 77-b reminds junko of herself. because of this, i don't think junko thinks of them as solely people to manipulate and use- that's more in line with how she feels about the reserve department. in fact, i think that junko is fond of them and feels a sense of camaraderie with them.

Hiiii, I haven't seen you on the birdsite in ages, so in lieu of, like, conversation, here are ask meme questions!
14 how do you write emotional scenes? Do you ever feel what the characters feel? Do you draw from personal experiences?
17 What do you do when writing becomes difficult? (maybe a lack of inspiration or writers block)
66 How do you deal with writing pressure (ie. pressure to update, negative comments, deadlines, etc.)?
74 You’ve posted a fic anonymously. How would someone be able to guess that you’d written it?
Hiiii, the bird app and I are having moral and philosophical disagreements right now but you can always find me on threads, FB, and insta.
14. how do you write emotional scenes? Do you ever feel what the characters feel? Do you draw from personal experiences?
I am always surprised when people tell me they laughed out loud or cried or had any sort of big emotional response to something I’ve written. And while I know that’s like the goal, there’s no guarantee that what you connect to emotionally is going to hit the same note for another person. Which is to say, I think I do tend to get into the head of a character, or I let them into my head. Is that different? Who knows. I think you have to feel it a little for it to ring true.
I draw a ton from personal experience, be it conversations I’ve had, situations I’ve been in, things that I’ve felt. I always say that if you’ve read my fic, you probably know me better than anyone I know casually in my real life. Also, it’s real terrifying when someone you know in real life wants to read your fic! Stop perceiving me!
17.  What do you do when writing becomes difficult? (maybe a lack of inspiration or writers block)
This is so tricky, because there’s no good way that works a) every time and b) for every person. For me, sometimes I have to write through the block and just unclog it with some trash before the good words start flowing again, but also sometimes I need the break and pushing through it only causes more harm. It’s really a matter of knowing yourself and checking in with what you need to keep making good art. Sometimes when I get stuck on a particular story, I know that I need to delete a big chunk of it but I’m stubborn and don’t want to and I spend too much time trying to fix it before ultimately doing what I knew I needed to do all along and just delete it. I think you have to be willing to admit you’ve made a wrong turn somewhere. And sometimes what needs to be deleted doesn’t need to be thrown away forever, but it’s just not right for THIS story.
66. How do you deal with writing pressure (ie. pressure to update, negative comments, deadlines, etc.)?
When it comes to fic, most of the pressure I put onto myself. I’ve learned to just ignore the comments that ask for more, demand updates etc because those don’t serve me in any positive way. I always appreciate when people read and comment, but fic is a gift we give of our time and effort and talent and it’s kind of a “you get what you get when you get it” situation. When I wrote greener grasses, I put myself on a weekly update schedule and I could do it but it was TOUGH. For my latest WIP, it’s months between updates and that’s okay too because it just has to be.
Now, for writing that gets published, it’s sort of a different can of worms. Deadlines do matter, because you’re just one author working with editors who have their own deadlines and you’re part of a big schedule of authors and editors and if you’re late, it impacts a lot of people. I get a lot more strict with myself about achieving a certain word count every day, setting aside blocks of time to revise, etc. It takes priority over other things for sure. But I treat it like any other job - triage tasks, give it the time it deserves, do my best.
74. You’ve posted a fic anonymously. How would someone be able to guess that you’d written it?
This is so funny because I think I do kind of have a distinctive style, at least people have said as such to me. One time another fic got posted and someone said it was written in a missparker style and I was like… am I so predictable?! But no, I think it was a compliment. Anyway, my style is domestic and character focused and probably someone is gonna drink coffee and probably someone is gonna go pee and probably it’s gonna start with song lyrics.
Thanks, @sarking!

Kaveh was known throughout his years in Sumeru as the "cool guy". He didn't really do anything to earn that title—it just came naturally to him. He effortlessly connected with others, always knew the right things to say, and even his gestures were captivating; anyone in his sunny and contagious presence couldn't help but be drawn to him. Kaveh didn't seek this attention, though—it was simply his demeanor.
However, when he left Sumeru, his world turned upside down. While he was someone in Sumeru, recognized by name alone, outside it was suddenly different. He was just another face in the crowd, with some talent and good looks. It's not that he lacked capability, but life always seems brighter when you're surrounded by admirers. It's different when suddenly you have nothing. But Kaveh rolled up his sleeves, confident in his abilities, and in no time, he made a name for himself beyond the safety of Sumeru.
Returning home to the green and wise Sumeru, though, he began to see the world differently. Despite having lost everything and fallen lower than one could imagine, he was greeted and admired on those streets as if nothing had changed. He felt like an impostor and would have preferred to rudely brush off everyone to dispel the illusion that he was a perfect person to be esteemed and admired. But perhaps out of habit or refusal, he always limited himself to smiling gracefully and kindly. He had become, in every sense, a normal, ordinary person, yet in the eyes of the people, he was still the "cool guy" and this feeling gnawed at him. He wanted people to see him simply for who he was and as the world outside Sumeru had come to know him: an architect who had dedicated his life to art, beauty, and aesthetics. A polite and refined individual, with both moderate and eccentric tastes. He wanted people to look beyond mere appearances and perceive him as an entirely ordinary person, with the only clear sentiment being that he felt like a failure.
