Mike and Will literally share shoes (and Will might be sleeping in Mike's room) and might not be dating yet when they start dating they're gonna share a whole closet and flirt with each other about how good they look in each other's clothes and just being obnoxious (I will rewatch those scenes so many times) what if they're sharing/swapping shoes because it's the 80's and they're in a really homophobic and conservative town and if they want to give little hints that they're dating and want to openly show it (to at least their friends) they have to be subtle about it? and maybe when they're at home they share clothes without feeling like they have to be careful with how they act around each other and can be openly affectionate (like them in s2)

Confirmation that they're the same shoes and they're both size 10 so yeah they're sharing shoes

and Mike brought these shoes from Hawkins which means the puma suede belong to Will

and in a leaked footage El and Mike broke up/ were already broken up because Mike says "we'll still be friends" and "i wanted to tell you first" which makes me think he might have came out to her (and in that video he was literally wearing his boyfriend's shoes)

in s1 during that scene on the train tracks they're friends and in the leaked video they were wearing similar clothes to what they were wearing in that s1 scene where they were friends and could trust each other. i think Mike's gonna come out to her (as gay) there which would explain why El was crying, and why Mike said "i wanted to talk to you first", in s1 Mike said "friends tell the truth" to El and in s5 it's Mike's turn to be honest about himself and maybe he'll tell her he's in love with Will or maybe he'll tell her that he's dating Will

it's the same song that played when Robin came out to Steve, obviously Steve had a crush on Robin but she's a lesbian and can only love him platonically while even though Mike tried to love El romantically he couldn't do it because he's gay and he didn't even bother to close his eyes and kiss her back

plus in a deleted script it says he was mad at himself

and the song playing when Mike and El were kissing in s3 "can't fight this feeling" is about someone being in love with their friend and not knowing what to do about it while already being in a relationship with someone else so it's about Mike being in love with Will and not knowing what to do so he represses it and pushes him away to get over him but then realizing it's not working (which is something he realized at the end of s3) and he's gay and he want on a double date with Will and Lumax after that

and Mike in s4 was trying to be normal and might be into new things (men, because dnd is not new)

and

and in s4 "in the closet at rink o mania" started playing Mike took what Will said "and us?" as romantic and felt the need to clarify that they're friends and Will said they used to be best friends and the camera panned back to Mike plus synth music is his thing since he has "Smalltown Boy" (gay song) as his first song on his spotify playlist, it's a song about a gay man leaving his homophobic town to start a new life and Finn said he wants Mike to leave Hawkins

and he has a "one way" sign pointing to his closet because he's gay and closeted and in his room he has a poster of a shirtless man while the others (Steve, B*lly, and Lucas' "friends") all have women posters because they like women

Mike being obsessed with Superman? and him having a poster of a shirtless man while Steve, B*lly and the tigers all had posters of women in bikinis (because they like girls) Will has a skinny pink panther poster in his room which symbolizes his type in men (Mike) Mike has a shirtless man poster and a buff male dragon poster which symbolizes his type in men (Will) (he's not really buff but he's stronger than Mike) they're each other's type and love each other plus you can see Mike looking at Will's arms during some scenes

also in s3 he was happy about Dustin having a gf and asked him about her but then in s4 when he "finds out" Will has a crush on a "girl" he doesn't ask him about "her" and acts distant (he was pretending he didn't care but he was jealous) and he asked Will about the painting because he was hoping it was for him (it was)

and he realized Will loves him back in the van scene, Mike wants to feel needed and Will needs him, Mike felt lost without Will, Will felt lost without Mike, Will loves him, Mike loves him back, they both think the other doesn't love them, they will prove each other wrong in s5 when Mike finds out Will lied about the painting and loves him back, they love each other the way they want to be loved

and he was so happy to see Will drew a heart on his shield

which is literally an engagement ring, no hands because they'll be more than friends in s5

they've been filming a lot at that farm.. and Ross and his wife said that they enjoyed eyewitness

and Lukas and Mike both have internalized homophobia (Lukas was dating a girl to be normal and then he breaks up with his gf and starts dating Philip,his male best friend)

and if this leak is actually correct there would be another parallel

because in eyewitness Lukas gets injured and his boyfriend stays with him and he kisses his forehead, Lukas' dad sees it (he's ok with it), it would explain why Karen was at the hospital and why they needed an ambulance on the set, so if this leak is true then Will's gonna kiss Mike's forehead and Karen is gonna see it (that would mean Mike and Will are already dating)

and in s2 Mike stayed with Will at the hospital so now it's Will's turn

they've been filming a lot at that farm.. and Ross and his wife said that they enjoyed eyewitness and they filmed at like 3 or 4 different farms (one of them has swings) and they're literally filming at one right now

more s5 leaks and Mike and El staying friends after the break up and Mike being worried for Will <33 and Mike and Robin bonding over their partners being in danger

Will is wearing one of Mike's shirts in s5, Mike wore something similar in s3 it's a gap shirt and Eddie said Mike wears gap shirts and Will has never worn something like this in the previous seasons and he didn't bring that many clothes back to Hawkins so he's gonna have to wear Mike's if he's staying at Mike's (the Wheelers added 2 chairs to their breakfast table and Will's tiger plushie is in Mike's room, it makes me think that they're already dating in the scene because Will is wearing blue yellow and green which are Byler's colors

Will's wearing Mike's black jeans, the blue shirt looks like something s2 Mike would wear but the undershirt looks like Will's in s4. he's just stealing his boyfriend's clothes atp because Will has never worn black jeans before and he's wearing blue (Mike's color) and Mike's the only one in the party who has worn black jeans and Will might be staying at Mike's because his tiger plushie was in Mike's room and the Wheelers added 2 chairs to their breakfast table plus Will has to stay at Mike's since he doesn't have a house in Hawkins and the cabin is too small for all the Byers to live in.

maybe he's wearing Mike's black jeans from s5 instead of the s4 ones but either way they're still Mike's jeans since Will has never worn black jeans before s5 and Mike has, Will is stealing his boyfriend's clothes, plus Mike is wearing Will's shoes in s5 <33

Byler is so obviously gonna happen even without all those proofs because they gave mlvn the stancy storyline of Nancy not being able to say "I love you" to Steve because she's in love with Jonathan and they didn't give that storyline to Jopper, Lumax and Jancy or even Duzie which are healthy couples who don't lie about who they are to each other and never felt unloved by their partners, and Mike wants to feel needed and Will needs him and El doesn't and Millie said El realized she's her own superhero and that she's gonna figure out who she is without Mike and Millie is not promoting mlvn anymore

Mike and Will spent s3 acting like they were the exes because in s2 Mike was overly affectionate with Will but he stopped doing that when he got a gf because he saw what he did as romantic so in his mind being affectionate with Will even just hugging him or just holding his hand like he did in s2 would be cheating because he's in love with Will and he's gay

Mike becomes less and less interested in El the more feminine she becomes, it becomes more difficult for him to pretend he's straight i mean he "fell in love" with her when she looked like a boy and people kept calling her a boy..

Mike probably thought she was a boy at first, everyone kept calling El the boy with the buzzcut at first in s1 and Mike said "that's not Will" instead of "that's a girl" and interesting thing is the more feminine El becomes the less interested in her Mike becomes, he probably thought El was a boy at first and she was wearing a yellow shirt (Will's color) maybe she reminded him of Will?

I mean Mike being gay aside who would you rather for him to be with?

A, with someone who doesn't understand him and he feels like he has to change himself to be with and who makes him feel insicure?

B, with someone who he feels like he can fully be himself with and who understands him and who puts him on the first place and makes him feel loved? B right? with Will

Jancy had their "we're just friends" moment and they kissed in 2 and Jopper had their "it's just 2 friends getting together for a nice dinner" moment and they kissed in s4 , Lumax had their "she's not my girlfriend" moment and they kissed in s2 and Byler had their "we're friends, we're friends" moment (started by Mike who doesn't know Will is gay) and they'll kiss in s5, there were no moments like these between Dustin and Lucas because they're not in love with each other

I love all the main kids as well as many other characters so it's hard to choose but I think I'd have to say mine is Faputa. Not only is she a super interesting and cool character, but she's also A Creature. A little ball of fluff that can kill

Thank you very much for the ask, anon! haha, "little ball of fluff that can kill"...yes, Faputa is great, and I think the main cast of Abyss is very endearing and very well fleshed-out. I was having a nice exchange on AO3 the other day regarding how GOOD the characterization of Abyss is and how it's often overlooked in favor of the also-extremely-good worldbuilding and plot, and why that might be, and was considering how it links together with some of my other Thoughts about ways this fandom is different from my other ones as far as what people are into (I need to finish the self-reblog I was gonna do about that on a recent related post actually). Anyway, pretty much the whole cast is endearing and/or enjoyable to watch in some capacity. But there is a definite answer as to favorite(s).

I put these up on my wall this evening, which may help to answer your question.

(Please note the scrolls. I missed the Amiami preorder period for those two because they closed earlier than the rest for some reason, but was able to get them from Suruga-ya eventually. They'll be on the wall at some point too.)

The story and cast prior to s2 I enjoyed in a, like, normal way, and then the Ganja squad arc hit me like a damn asteroid. These people...I've thought and felt and said so much about them, and after a year and a half I'm still brimming with something that feels like it has to be poured out, onto blank canvases and into the written word, and there's no end in sight. I have never had characters that were such good muses to me except perhaps for a couple I made up myself. Belaf has to be called my favorite at this point, but for a long time it was Vueko, and I really, really like Waz too; the manner in which these three characterize one another makes it a little painful to try to separate and rank them, but yes, that's the order. I dote on B and V in particular.

At this point I have so much to say about them that being asked why I like them is hard to answer succinctly. Belaf is so, so sweet, but in an unusual weird, intense nerd way that I find incredibly endearing .....and then that kindness and strength of character fucking destroys him and it's tragic and beautiful and there is so much to pick apart in the manner and meaning of his transformation and his absolution, and it's also a great deal of fun to depict him as he was before. "Before" Belaf is such a fun sort of quirky nerd and his relationships wth Waz and Vue and Iru offer, like, SO much to turn over and look upon fondly, humor and friendship and loyalty and love.

And yet, when I write about his years of friendship with and loyalty and closeness to Wazukyan and Vueko and his parenthood and tutelage of Irumyuui and (note: hallucinatory) camaraderie with the other Ganja, hanging over my shoulder always is his downfall and it makes all of those things so much more beautiful, the tinny note of tragedy that is always playing at the edge of our hearing once we see it all and know how it must end.

As for Vueko, since she's fairly popular maybe explaining her appeal isn't needed...or maybe it is, because it's so much more than the shy and gentle and somewhat silly person she is on the surface, it is so, so much more. Under the Layer of Fuheh she's made of steel --it's just that she's very, very softspoken, which people mistake for passivity and spinelessness. Even fans who purport to like her sometimes reduce her to victimhood and weakness. Perhaps because it's a misconception she clearly holds about herself, and a viewer can be forgiven for not putting together that Vueko might literally be the sage that acts with the most agency. There's so much more I can say that I love about her and her story, especially in the context of the other characters and the way she subtly skews some narrative and trope-related expectations, but I think that's the heart of it -- yes, she was endearing as soon as I met her, but when I saw the subtle yet unmistakeable strength under it all (and parsed that she never saw it herself, I think that little pop of tragedy really makes it hit for me lol), I think that's what made me adore her.

This next little bit might be kind of fucked up but what really makes that strength into something that haunts and compels me is that Vueko has so much determination and strength of character that she will unhesitatingly act to destroy the people she cares about very very much if she has decided at that moment that it is the best thing for them (Irumyuui, Belaf, Irumyuui again.) I can trace the real beginning of my obsession with these characters to when s2e8 aired and this is pretty much why.

So...yeah. Belaf and Vueko! Aaaand there's no way I can write about Waz here without making this post way too fucking long but.

Jon Sims Spotify Playlist Explained

I was gonna make this post regardless of whether anyone even remotely interacted with prev. post but two (count 'em, 2) people said I should, so I am.

I'm explaining some (not all, there's too many songs for that) of my song choices for my Jon Sims music playlist that is focused on his narrative. This is gonna be long.

Let's start with the first song on the playlist, marking the beginning of Season 1 (I sectioned it into seasons, by the way.)

Season 1:

Swan Lake, Op. 20 Act 1: Introduction - No.1, Scene.Allegro giusto (A.K.A The Swan Lake introduction song).

I think that Jon's narrative and the Black Swan narrative are extremely similar. For those who haven't seen the movie Black Swan, the story is about a young woman, Nina, who becomes obsessed with perfecting the duality of portraying the White Swan and the Black Swan. She essentially destroys herself in pursuit of her darker side, a side that was brought out by her dance director. I think if you put Jon Sims in this situation, he would act the same as her. Both individuals are desperate to be seen as competent and perfect and there is something to be said about transformation and the pain of transforming yourself into a being that can no longer revert back to purity. There is only black, but there is also perfection.

Spellbound - Siouxsie and the Banshees

The lyrics, the goddamn lyrics. Just the entirety of the archives, they are all caught in the spell, the web of games, and the dance. They have to dance along or else they'll get hurt. I also think Siouxsie songs have a very TMA-esque sound to them in general, in that these songs could fit in my film adaptation of TMA (the one I'm making in my mind constantly).

Season 2:

Let It Happen - Tame Impala

Like I said, my mind has been conjuring up a TMA film adaptation since I first started listening and this song would definitely play in a scene with all the avatars speaking "let it happen" to Jon. I also love how the song talks about something trying to get out of the narrator's body, something that they can't fight against much longer, because it's closer and closer and it will get out. Jon Sims, as the closest thing to an important person, could be said to be the capsule for the Eye. And all of the other avatars know this, because they're the same, but Jon refuses to let it happen. He can't give up. He doesn't want to give in. Eventually, he does, but his struggle to maintain humanity causes him pain and suffering and a coma. Should've just let it happen, bud.

Boys Don't Cry - The Cure

Literally the most S2 Jon song. The narrator says he's gone too far, he's laughing at the hysterics, he's at a cliff's edge of emotions, and he wants other's forgiveness but it's far too late and he knows it's all gone to shit. Jon, at the height of his paranoia, knew it was wrong to stalk and interrogate and suspect nearly every single one of his friends, but forgiveness was never in the cards anyway, he knew that. He just needed to know he wasn't gonna fucking die. His friends and their emotions came second, and that's what tore them apart.

Season 3:

Your Body, My Temple - Will Wood (For Camp Here & There)

Not really a Jon song, so much as it is about Jon from Elias's POV. The song features a narrator who is viewing the object of their affection with religious fervor. They speak about how they'd die at the object's hands if only to have their name on their final breath. The main line as well, "your body, my temple," highlights how the narrator views the object as a holy spectacle, assigning divinity to them, even when it is not wanted. Elias certainly assigned godhood to Jon and his expression of love and admiration bordered on worship, or, arguably, was worship. After all, Jon was the harbinger of the new world. The man who brought in fear in all its glory and gave Elias his throne. Worthy of worship? I think so.

Cat People (Putting Out Fire) - David Bowie

S3 Jon was a man putting out fire with gasoline, no question about it. He went forward and met various dangerous avatars just for the chance at learning more and more about the new world he was wrapped up in. Some of these lyrics also scream Jon Sims. For example, "See these eyes so green / I can stare for a thousand years / Just be still with me / You wouldn't believe what I've been through." The narrator, additionally, sees himself as a monster of sorts, the kind that people look away from. There is a passion so fiery in his eyes that it makes them look red, and then people close the blinds on him. S3 was the season where Jon was just beginning to understand his abilities, and the people surrounding him hated them. It made him other. It made him something to be feared.

Season 4:

Chin Music For The Unsuspecting Hero - Foster The People

The opening lyrics to this are literally the most S4 Jon Sims lyrics I've ever heard in my entire miserable life. "Today I walked through the door and fell down on my floor / Got all of my papers out and read them." Which is then followed by the chorus, with another round of Jon lyrics: "Where are my friends now? / They're not around when I need them / I cannot pretend / Yeah, I find myself against all the odds again." The narrator follows up the first chorus with lyrics talking about how they have to wake up and go to work, get screamed at, go home to sleep, and scream at their god that they're doing what they can. This is just so S4 Jon moving through the motions like a ghost, wondering where his friends have gone, the people he could trust. They are all gone. He'll never see them again. He's all alone. Basira sees him as a weapon, Melanie is far too angry to be polite to anyone anymore, Daisy is a shell of herself, Tim is dead, Sasha is dead, and Martin might as well be dead. Tragic!

All I Think About Now - Pixies

Like the one above, but a bit less sad. Not really. This song is all about staying stuck in the past and wondering if going back to the beginning would allow the narrator to find another way. Reminiscing on the happier times, lamenting on how happiness is nonexistent now. Trying to thank the people from the past. Once again: tragic!

Season 5:

I start off S5 with a different season break song. The playlist is sectioned off with a different Swan Lake song. S5 starts with:

Starman - David Bowie

I've always imagined this as the outro song for 160. There is a starman (Eye) waiting in the sky and he would really love to meet Jon. This world is theirs now. They don't want it to end, not really. It's too beautiful.

Komm, Susser Tod - Arianne (For Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion)

Now. This is one of the most Jon Sims songs ever. The narrator is crushed to see that their actions have let so many people down, but they know that by killing themselves, or leaving forever, their world might turn out better. Of course, this isn't true. The world is ending either way. Regardless, they wish to go back in time and fix things, trust again, love again. Very MAG200. The world is tumbling down, returning to nothing, and the narrator believes it's all their fault. Their love is worth nothing. They have nothing in the world. Except, maybe, Jon had his own love that mattered most. It helped. A bit.

Gilded Lily - Cults

This is one of the last few songs and it hit me so hard the first time I heard it, honestly. The narrator knows it was, in some way, their fault for not seeing things as clearly as they should've. The chorus repeating "Haven't I given enough?" remains as one of my top Jon lyrics. He gave so much to stop these powers from spreading, from infecting other worlds with their fear and destruction. No one person should have to do that. He was young, really, in the grand scheme of things. There was no instruction manual.

There's also a line here that is very JonMartin: "Always the fool with the slowest heart / But I know you'll take me with you / We'll live in spaces between walls." I really do truly hope the narrative was kind to them and they're living somewhere else, living in spaces between walls.

Well. That's the end of that. I included the ending of Swan Lake as the final song to the playlist, because I am crazy about the parallels. Playlist attached now. Thank you if you've read this far. I ramble. I hope you liked the ramble.

Hya, good evening, 👋

I had a Bridgerton related question. Specifically, a Benedict Bridgerton question. What would you like to be the timing and pace of his story to be told in the Netflix adaptation? For it to be handled immediately in season 4? Or for there to be little bit more of a build-up? At the risk of answering my own question, I’ll provide some of my own personal suggestions. 🤭

You may call this controversial, but personally, I would like for Benedict to be relatively OLD when his love story finally comes about. The books go chronologically after Daphne, but considering how much of a Bohemian Benedict is, that never made sense to me. 🤨 He’s such a restless soul, I’d make sense for him to just make it a high priority and then forget about it, until Violet is like beyond worried he’ll never find someone and just reconciles with the idea her second-oldest will practically be a monk without a monastery. 🤷‍♀️ (in the marital sense at least) So, I’d imagine Benedict to be well into his thirties (maybe over forty!), practically ancient in Regency terms, and irrelevant for the marriage mart. Then along comes a lady with a mask…

But aside from Benedict’s personality, it might also serve the narrative. Apart from some raunchy scenes in season one, the audience barely knows anything about Benedict. (very similar to his sister Francesca) So in order for his story to make sense, it might be beneficial to have a little bit of a longer introduction. Tp Benedict…and maybe even to Sophie. 🫣 (They may just introduce her as Violet’s ladies maid during the upcoming season, then slowly braid her character into the narrative.)

Then finally for a question I don’t have an answer to. 😅 Since Shonda has a habit of casting characters across races (ugh I didn’t know how to phrase this better but I how you can forgive me), how would you cast Sophie?

Hi Thel! thanks for the ask. I think Benedict was actually narratively on the verge of his own love story as of the end of S2 and the show would have been better served making him the S3 hero. The biggest indication to me was actually the poem Anthony fobs off him. Benedict speaks of this love that's very two dimensional to me— the artist and his muse, and that's where he is as a person BUT you get the sense he wants love. Add to that where he is at the end S2— creatively unfulfilled and questioning his artistic abilities. Plus, because he's fucked around, it makes him feel like a more classic historical romance hero to me, if that makes any sense. All of this combined would make S3 great time for his love interest to show up and provide some inspiration and light in his life.

And I'm gonna be real, what we got of Colin in S2 was either dull, confusing, or the narrative was giving him a lot more credit than he deserves (see: his ponzi scheme crushing era) but I figured him as the S3 hero was inevitable after his "I will never marry Penelope Featherington" line and because the showrunner is obsessed with Penelope. Benedict on the other hand feels very much the classic "future hero" in historical romance series where they're friends or siblings with a prior hero/heroine and they're in a position where you want to know when they get their own story.

As for your last question, I actually really dislike picking a race for Sophie because it plays into the way Shondaland has set up Bridgerton: the two main families are white and the only people of color are the ever-revolving cast of love interests and Lady Danbury and Queen Charlotte in the corner. So what I've seen within the fandom are people of color basically fighting over the meager scraps of rep we get while the show continues to be overwhelmingly white, and even more so in S3 because both the main love interests and their entire families (except for Kate) are white. So all I'll say is it would be great if Benedict's love interest was a person of color, but I hope they'll handle their story sensitively considering what we know Sophie endures in the books.

Gwen and Duncan had potential. They barely interacted in season 1 besides that one-off horror episode, and they did had mutual respect in how they each played their respective game. It'd just weird to see how they were best friends immediately starting in s2 and it then fed into the paranoia with their established partners and portrayed and fed their delusion to be right which I hate.

I could see it work but gradually build up over the course of the season in action to make them be closer and then built up to be best friends because having them be so chummy right off the bat it's weird seeing them being so awfully close, although granted they did had a good chemistry in action lol. Why is Gwen confiding with Duncan about Trent someone he feels threatened by? No clue why the show is throwing away Gwen real friendship and sidelining Leshawna over this.

I actually really dislike it when they keep referring or making hints Gwen or Duncan liked it each other in-universe after the tell all in action because honestly wasn't that deep. They're nonconformists of course their interests aligned and they did trouble together but that's not love lol unless you're seeing all this through a shipping lens and over analyzing each interaction that just had no meaning.

I could see ship potential actual happened but s3 destroyed it. By the beginning of Celebrity manhunt special and in season 3 Gwen changed her tune out of nowhere when previously no it wasn't true she wasn't into him like Sierra described lol it felt so contrived and forced seeing that kiss be a wtf moment just speedrunning everything and her being eliminated after 2 episodes for the ratings.

Let's be real for a second alright? Courtney in s2 was insufferable. At least Heather was fun to hate Courtney just worsened it for me. Their relationship peaked in s1 and truthfully was never gonna last their a real life opposites attract but have no future. Courtney becoming more high maintenance and Duncan having all his worst traits just be cranked were annoying. I ain't condoning it but yeah after action and seeing Duncan cheating you understand as a viewer.

The show made her the butt of the joke and always crank her up to be the villain. They really wanted us not to be sympathetic and even with the other two put in a negative light after the cheating fiasco hers aren't favorable as well she's back up on villain agenda instead of being vulnerable or giving her a chance to breathe. The villainization and callling Gwen " New Heather" pissed me the fuck off I swear.

It never was that deep they were forced to be friends for all of 3 days so all of that built up to the cheating fiasco was so that we feel sympathetic to her plight. I... After all stars and them becoming closer again it just went nowhere and up and died.

Gwen the straight women to the other character goofy antics and almost Main character became the girl in and out of the show for her complicated love bomb relationships.

Courtney the know it all but genuinely nice and cared for contestant s and had her sweet moments in immediately helping Izzy and Sadie became a onenote derailment of a control freak whiny my way or the highway always attitude be so presently dominant to everything. She comes first always.

Duncan used to cool and yeah he's pretty casual sexist words were very hypocritical. I'm annoyed the show never addresses it and Ezekiel got flamed for it in-universe. But, still he did had his tender moment of goodwill and his persona bad boy image was chill went so down the drain I pity this dude. He's so obsessed with not being a good guy label he just became a loser by defaul

If Total Drama was a real show then it's irony to me how everyone became worse off it then they were when they started on this show I guess that meta for you.

this song is... really heavy. so, regarding Harriet & Elizabeth, this song paints a serious situation in which where they were in an abusive relationship with a man in their years of college. however, this also applies to her relationship to her family; specifically her step-father. she is constantly controlled, held down, and unable to speak. they both are victims of abuse in the most horrific of ways, and Elizabeth was how they broke out.

i also find this song very important because the overlaying of both parts fit how they both speak during the song - they have voices and their own thoughts that overlay with one another. this is what i consider their Jekyll & Hyde song, and it's their attempted cries of needing an escape.

Fran's story is also full of trauma and the sense of isolation from her own community & town. a lot of her story is based on how much the South Park kids treated her during the first AND second game - constantly speaking for her, the anger, the fighting, unable to speak for herself, family trauma; having no identity. her story is full of anger and it's what makes her so dangerous and monstrous. she doesn't know this yet, but it will end up becoming truth later on in her life. this song perfectly describes how angry she is towards her own friends and how they don't know anything but she does.

i love this song and for two reasons; it tells a story and it describes Yuri in Act 2-3. she becomes so obsessed and almost demonic in a way with how she shares her love and obsession towards the Player and how attached she gets. in truth, she is much like this with those she loves, and becomes attached in a very close way. however, the mutilating ways in how she shares that love are to a minimum and almost never shown unless the other doesn't reciprocate those feelings.

she would kill for her lovers, and will kill, but in a very fucked up and defacing way where she loses her own identity and only finds solace in her partners.

the thing about Rusty is that while he's not a good person, he's also definitely not a terrible one & more than anything he's definitely not his father. it's maybe a push to say he broke out of the cycle of neglect from his father w his own boys, but he definitely broke out of the pressure/cycle of toxic masculinity that was pressed upon him from his own father. And it's hard to look at things objectively because like in s1 the family is obviously not developed to the point they are in say s3 or even s2 (or even s4) bc in s1 it was more of a gag that he was detached/uncaring/neglectful (esp early on) like him forgetting the twins names (leeway on him forgetting their birthday in s2ep1 just bc they are chronologically 19 but actually (roughly) 16 and. well it gets complicated! & i think that ties in to him babying them a bit) but its the same way that brock early on had more animosity/detachment from rusty when theyre shown to be significantly closer & by s3 (which by canon time is really only a few months/a year maybe pretty much from s1) they're obviously a flawed but still connected family, even brock is significantly closer to the boys & they have planned family time & etc (not to say they arent without their fuckups & shortcomings) . which is all to say i dont think rusty is a perfect father, he arguably isnt really a great one (but i would say its moreso from his detachment/apathy towards the world/life/himself moreso than any animosity towards the twins, which doesnt excuse it, but its very different from Jonas Sr. & his complete neglect/blowing off/abuse/etc towards his own son) Rusty doesn't go out of his way to humiliate the boys, he doesnt let his friends humiliate the boys, he defends dean for being sensitive & he plays along with them & more than anything he wants to protect them . he doesnt pretend to be a good person like his dad. if anything he babies them a lot, he shelters them a lot, his life work is an obsessive homage to his absolute love for them & (legality aside) he refuses to profit off of it (even as early as The Incredible Mr Brisby) . i swear this was all gonna tie in w my gripe w s4 . but its just fucking crazy to me how suddenly he is his father in s4 out of nowhere . esp after s3 finale (esp the deleted scene) it drives me fucking insane . idk why his like fond smile of thinking how theyre growing up/he needs to let them grow up turns into like . the shit show of controlling how they grow up & etc . just drives me up a wall that s4 he moreso than ever addresses his father's neglect but has 0 self awareness when hes doing the exact same thing when that has never ever ever been a thing before its maddening

second of all, oh lord. that's a tough one. i mentioned before that I started taking notes for a possible trans ted fic, and that's set after the events of s2, maybe even a while later. i think ted doesn't start the process of ~~realizing stuff until after his divorce. I think just like his bi awakening, the gender stuff is something he never really inspected too closely because he was too wrapped up in being michelle's husband, and that meant that both his gender and his sexuality revolved around that. (Being Henry's dad plays a big part on how he conceptualizes his gender, too, I think.)

(this is long af so here's a cut)

I'm gonna project here because of course I do that and say - ted's journey isn't linear. it's not like he has a realization at one point and then starts transitioning and then never looks back. it's more like. there were moments in his life. like when he was in middle school, he definitely grew his hair out at some point, right? little weird kid, obsessed with Queen, of course he did. (I'm not gonna say teenage ted with a mullet because neither me nor the world is ready for that but. i'm also not not saying it.)

And there you have this kid, round-faced and mild-mannered and definitely misunderstood by most of his peers, who also looks up to his father a lot. Of course he does, his father is a kind man, much nicer than most fathers Ted knows, and since Ted has trouble connecting to boys his age, he looks to his father as a role-model for masculinity. And he's like, yeah, I gotta be that, but better. I can make that work, if I just try harder and don't give up. The other boys may not always understand it, but Ted has chosen his path. He's not like these other boys and he doesn't want or need to be. He'll find his own way.

And then there's girls. Ted loves them, I'm sure he does. Especially this one he meets one day, just him and her, the only two people in that big parking lot. He wants to be good for her, the best boyfriend he can be, and later the best husband he can be, and even later the best father to their child he can be. He always goes the extra mile, but he also always feels like he just has to try a little harder. It's never quite enough, but surely, if he'll just does a little more, does it a little better, eventually he'll crack the code. he's happy, most of the time, at least as long as michelle is happy, and henry is happy. and if they're not happy, he'll be whatever they need him to be so they can be happy again. There's no need to think about himself.

Couple's therapy is rough, not only because it's Michelle and her therapist against him (or that's what it feels like at least), but also because for the first time in a long time, Ted is forced to look at himself. He's not allowed to look away. This isn't me saying he never self-reflects - I think he does that a lot actually - but it's very different to actively reflect on what kind of man you've been in your marriage and in your family, and how all the efforts you put in have often been more for your own sake than for the other person's. I think Ted scratches the surface of ~~realizing things there. Because he's been playing this part for so long, and for whom?? for what?? Always trying to be the man everyone needs him to be, but now finding out that's a burden he has placed on himself? Oh, that must hurt. I think it even hurts too much for Ted to dig deeper, to find a truth behind it.

That's later, after the divorce, at Richmond. The thing is this: Ted has been surrounded by men for most of his career, but even for a social butterfly like Ted, the way he connects to Higgins and Beard and Nathan and then Roy is a new thing. Beard as Ted's closest friend for decades might be weird, yes, but he's also way closer to the masculinity you'd expect from someone in sports - a little gruff, no lasting romantic relationships, emotionally unapproachable etc. He's Ted's levels of weird, but they've already been close for probably two decades, so they click on a different level. But with the others, Ted has a wide range of masculinities - Nathan's insecurities and Higgins the family man and the push-over, even Roy with his whole 'tough on the outside, soft on the inside' bit... Ted clearly values their input, respects them and all that, but sometimes, he still seems to set himself apart from them as well.

Now at the same time, i'm not sure there have been many women in Ted's life before Rebecca and Keeley - not that closely, not in the way of friendship and mutual respect. Keeley is one of the first people (maybe the first) at Richmond Ted genuinely connects with, and he's working hard to win over Rebecca, and he always meets them eye to eye.

And then there's the "Lavender" episode. Where Ted desperately tries to be part of Rebecca and Keeley's 'girl talk' in a way that blows my mind. (now we're at the point where tedbecca shippers may start to like me a little less - i'm sorry, friends, this is just my interpretation, i'm not trying to shit on yours or anything 🙈) Because they could have played this a dozen different ways - Ted could have been weirdly jealous of the guy Rebecca is talking to, he could have been uncomfortable from the vibes there. But no, he genuinely just wants to be a part of this kind of friendship, and all episode long, he makes an effort to learn the rules of it and adapt it. He later even applies what he has learned to the diamond dogs (the whole 'sometimes, people just need to talk about a thing and there needs to be no solution'), which i think is SUCH a cool choice. Because of course they could be saying here 'Instead of devaluing femininity, Ted lifts it up and learns from it' - but they go even beyond that. He says he wants to be Keeley multiple times a day AND he lets Rebecca use his hand to try out different nail polishes. He doesn't just play along to learn from it and adapt it for his own needs - no, he enjoys femininity for femininity's sake. Like I said, blows my fucking mind.

And I think somewhere there, somewhere after Nathan leaving when Ted is full of self-doubt, somewhere around the time he starts talking to Doctor Sharon for real - that's when a door opens for him to finally examine his gender.

And it's hard to say where that leads him, but holy shit, the possibilities excite me to no end.

id love to but if u were a bit more specific abt what kind of dramas u like or what ur in the mood for i could maybe be more specific with my rec? but i'll just list a couple of dramas i've watched recently (i think i'll have more cdrama recs than kdrama tho cos lately ive been in the mood for them also just more lighter dramas also u can check my rec tag.)

love all play haven't caught up with all the eps yet but afaiw it feels fun and sweet and im obsessed with the leads although ive heard that it gets reaaaaaally angsty in the recent eps. shooting stars good for if u don't wanna use ur brain at all and just watch something light and stress free (warning though there's a really stereotyped generalized portrayal of africa that comes up in the first ep and is constantly mentioned in every other ep so. yeah ). our blues weirdly i ended up sticking with this its not terrible or anything but also i don't think im gonna remember this in the long run like it tackles a lot of interesting, heavy topics/stories but idk why i'm just not invested in the drama as a whole. but it could work if u just wanna watch something u don't want to like, commit to since its an omnibus and u can just skip any of the stories ur not into. also the killer's shopping list for a mystery thriller-ish its kind of weak like, if u pay enough attention u can figure out who the killer is by the 2nd ep BUT it delivers on comedy and has an endearing group of characters and despite being obvious, manages to keep ur attention till the end (i did ff here and there tho towards the end) for a 12 ep drama it was decent.

my princess, the killer is also romantic, destined to meet you they're all minidramas (10 mins or less runtime for each ep) but somehow eat up full length romance productions these days with actual budgets its getting embarrassing. wanna also mention the queen of attack s1 and 2 i personally liked s2 a lot more but watching both seasons will give a better idea of the full story even tho maybe u could watch s2 as a standalone. make a wish super fluffy and cute, dine with love finally a good fucking ceo romance bonus this is good if u don't like ott corniness but still want something that falls into the tropes of the genre without sacrificing the romance, it has bad subs but i didn't find it too hard to follow it. love in flames of war might be the only "heavy" (lol) drama im watching rn and its Not Good but its fun in that soapy mess kinda way. also rewatched more than blue: the series recently if u want a good cry

okay so it’s not my business and i guess i get it for newcomers to this site to see a name and assume it’s the actual celebrity but it always makes me laugh when i see those types of asks 🤣 anyways

hello again winnie! so about universal studios yes it is a theme park but it has backlots and sets where shows are filmed so it has two types of tours. one comes with the park (the studio tour) where it takes you around the backlot and you see different sets where movies were filmed like back to the future and it doubles as two rides with king kong and fast&furious. one of the best things about the park tbh. the one that costs extra is the vip tour and they walk you around the park and take you to warehouses where set pieces are kept and you don’t have to wait in the lines as much. if you ever go i’d recommend going during halloween just because they do extra but either way the food is good and makes it worth the price. i used to work there and i may have access to some leftover tickets if you’re interested!

&yes! it is so good i’m only on s3 but castle and casket have me in a chokehold. though now i wish i had watched aos since you seem to like it more 😅 so please lmk!

well now i’m jealous i wanted to play the violin and yes i play the flute and saxophone. also want to learn how to play the harp. i love the sound, like it seems so calming. so you’ve done recitals? did you enjoy them? sorry to hear that you were forced to play instruments you never wanted to but i have to admit that i laughed at the side comment 😆

I've always wonder what it's like to work in a theme park, I've seen so many people working over at Disneyland during the summers in uni. But I just didn't think I'm right for the job, can't stand the heat/ sun and generally not a cheery person. But people seems to have lots of fun. Just wondering though, do your tickets have expiry dates 😅

Omg now that you're on s3, can we talk about the s2 finale?!!!!! It always had me in tears 😭😭😭😭 they could've been together right then & there. I mean I get it, they're kinda the main couple, so the writers had to drag out their relationship for multiple seasons to come. But still talk about bad timing 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 also, s2 is probably one of my fav, especially the 2 episodes case tick tick tick & boom 😍 there're gonna be some iconic scenes in s3, not gonna spoil it for you.

Do I like aos more than castle?! I don't think so. I just happened to be obsessing with AoS when I started giffing and I guess I got too comfortable, like I know the scenes, which ones work well with each other etc. Castle will always have a special place in my heart, and Kate Beckett is my first on screen idol, like nothing will quite live up to your first love. But aos did come close. Personally I was already really interested in this kind of black ops operation in the marvel movies and wished they had more screen time, and marvel turning it into a TV show is basically a dream come true. I just love Melinda May since ep 1, and has been relating to her since ep 2, and I don't think I've ever related to a character this much. Like female badasses are often written as cold and closed off with the excuse of a traumatic experience, and there's little depths to their characters, either because it's a movie or a series that didn't survive long enough for character devInnelopment. But with May, sure the tropes applied, but even early on you can see that she has a heart and that she cares very deeply. And that she smiles and play jokes secretly. Her whole quiet, stoic personality wasn't necessarily the outcome of the trauma, but more so just who she is, and it just felt very natural and genuine to me and I relate soooo much, and I guess her being Chinese helped with that too. Like it was from that moment I understand how important diversity and representation are to so many people.

This got kinda long, but you got me into talking about castle & aos so it's bound to happen. I would highly recommend aos if you like sci-fi & marvel. They had more tie-ins with the movies in s1-s3, but honestly the show got better when they kinda diverged from it and did their own thing. The writing is pretty mind blowing, and the fight scenes & cgi got better each season. It's ridiculous the amount of stuff they did in the timeframe they had. My personal favs are s1 & s4, s1 mostly for nostalgia and it was the world/ characters building season, s4 (maybe ep 9 forward) was simply phenomenal. S5 was mind blowing you'll probably have to watch it twice to understand everything 😅

Harp is such a beautiful instrument, but it's like huge and expensive. Where I live, very few people's apartments are big enough to store that. So it's a very rich people kind of instrument to us. And I have only listened to it in a handful of occasions. But I know more kids are learning it these days, because apparently piano is too basic 😒 The only recitals I've done are in competitions and exams and idk if it counts, and those are really stressful. But I do enjoy playing the piano in front of (non-judgy) friends & families where we just basically chill, usually people I play in front of know how to play it too so they wouldn't care if there's a slip or it's not perfect etc. It's more so sharing what pieces we were playing at the moment.

I would say violin could be way more complicated, but idk how it compares to playing the flute because I know it is hard to play the flute well too. But I think it wouldn't hurt to take some lessons and see if you like it or not.

I'm not really into sports, but I do like swimming and it's pretty much the only thing I did as a kid. I just love being in the water, it's so calming & cooling. Just the pools though, preferably indoors, the beach really isn't for me. I've always wanted to learn Kung Fu was a kid, like I can feel it in my blood, but my parents only made my younger brother who doesn't want to learn it to go to taekwondo lessons, and don't allow me to go. As a kid, I thought because it's not ladylike, but I found out years and years later it's because my parents saw that I was so good at it and I often fight with my brother (because he's an a**hole as a kid) and there's pretty much no fighting chance for my brother, so my parents wanted to equip him with some fighting skills. But jokes on them, he hates it and drops it after a couple lessons and I kinda resented them for that. It wasn't until in my early 20s that my dad suggested we take some lessons from a Thai boxing coach that his colleagues recommended, because I gained quite some weight after my weight loss rebound. My whole family went for the first couple of lessons, and the coach straight up asked if I have learnt wing chun (another type of Kung Fu) before because I punch like that style, and I said no I've never had any lessons, then I turned to my mum and said now you see how you've wasted a Kung Fu talent (kidding not kidding). I need to work on my cardio but I would say my instincts are pretty good, even more so as a kid, it got "duller" overtime because I often being called "over reactive" to stimuli (like getting hit/ touch accidentally by people/ objects).

I'm more of a TV show kind of person, especially those 20+ eps per season like how it used to be. There's more room for character development and more things for me to obsess over. Good movies are like a nice treat, but I watched it and moved on. Some of my favourite series are hp, Narnia, marvel, basically the ones I grew up with.

Favourite foods: Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Italian, French (mostly pastries & desserts)

We don't do much for Christmas but I've always loved my mum's gingerbreads. I used to look forward to Starbuck's peppermint mocha, but it has kinda been discontinued here for years. I actually went to a Starbucks while travelling in the states just to get peppermint mocha 🤣 I do love peppermint, in tea, sweets, chocolate, etc.

The bigger holiday we celebrate is actually Chinese new year a month later. My mum always makes all these traditional foods and snacks and they're so delicious, store bought ones, even the fanciest ones can't compare (especially the first 2 pics). It's like a lot of work. I'll just put in some pics for you in case you have no idea what I'm talking about 😅

And then there're ones that we just buy from the store.

Basically a lot of fried food 😅

(satnyan cat obsession devolution anon) haha don't worry if you want to, you can go into as much detail as you want in regards to the sad nyan-ification of satan!!! despite being a cat owner and lover myself, it makes me quite sad as well, so its always hear other people's thoughts!

I'm gonna answer this like a full response question back in highschool without accurately citing my sources, but you're just gonna have to believe me.

In this essay, I will talk about Satan's character comparison between s1 & s2, why his character devolved, and how I personally would've written him if I got my grubby little paws on the writer's scripts.

Satan was the physical embodiment of Lucifer's anger. He came into existance sometime between the actual war in the Celestial Realm and when the Brothers fell to the Devildom. Those details are still unclear. It is also know that in their jumbled state of trying to recuperate as a family, the brothers took their time "taking care" of Satan (this phrase being used lightly). Eventually taking to self-education through various books, Satan builds a character for himself breaking away from the original title of Lucifer's wrath.

Upon meeting him for the first time, he comes off as very polite and civilized for a demon. To which Lucifer warns you to be careful around him because his politeness is only a façade. Just this line alone gave his character something very interesting to look forward to. Unfortunately, as you keep playing s1, it really looks like they scrapped the idea very early on. The biggest conflict he has at this point in his insecurity of still being compared to Lucifer (in many ways) inspite of building up his own character centuries ago. It really takes a whole body switch for Lucifer to completely admit how much Satan has changed and for the better of himself. (Note that this does not mean that Lucifer was the root cause of his conflict, but that hearing praise from his "creator" has somewhat relieved him of his insecurities).

When s2 begins, Satan is in a much more comfortable position with you so there's no need for him to pretend anymore. Which now means that you get to know more about the things he likes. Books of a less educational kind, detective shows, art shows, and cats. None of these seem out of the ordinary, they're really just proving that Satan is just some guy when he's not focusing on his wrath.

I think the part that was a little off for me was when mc was asking him if he was cheating on them with cats when a bunch of books fell on them. A little bit of cheeky banter is fine, but even playfully assuming he loves cats more than he loves you?? That's when the cat obsession started. It all literally goes downhill from here, and I can tell you why.

Fandom and their ability to contact the devs.

The whole game would've been completely different if the devs never allowed players to message them cause they mostly got a lot of harassment through dms. Some from minors too, like they have any right to be playing the game in the first place🙄 through the influence of some players and the bullying of others, segments of the game has been changed and characters were changed to fit more popular beliefs. One of the most popular fandom headcanons was Satan's obsession with cats since many believed his love for books made him too boring (which is obviously false! I mean, read my story the magic in mystery and telly me that book lover Satan is boring!). Which brings me now to my final statements.

If I had written Satan, I would've kept his façad. With how nice he was being to mc, it would've been the perfect opportunity to test their mental strength and how pure they could keep their soul around him if they could keep their soul at all. I'll be honest with you, I wish the brothers would've been a little more demonic in s1. There is no real payoff to making pacts with them (except for brothers 4,5,6). It doesn't feel like anyone tried for anything and in the end, you completely forget what you're supposed to be doing in the game. There are so many things in s1 that get talked about once and it has 0 effect on anything. I mean, you literally get murdered 3 months into the exchange program and there no hint of trauma from mc anywhere!

In the end, the poor little meow meow-ification of Satan comes from a combination of fandom pressure and already poor writing.

every day i think about the fact that tomas was like a thousand times worse than diego because diego was an antagonist. diego in s2 did some awful shit i'm not even gonna try to justify but? what else do you expect from an antagonist? plus i want to believe that as self absorbed and arrogant as he was he would have been WAY more respectful if it wasn't for the whole deal with ludmila

tomas on the other hand has absolutely no excuse. he pulled some of the worst shit in this show and none of that was portrayed as bad which is wayyy more fucked up than diego being a bad guy and doing bad things

also diego was so fun to watch, he was a clown and owned it, diego saw a couple and as the bi mess he is decided he would fuck things up for fun because he thought both of them were hot, tomas wishes he were him. tomas wishes he could have what leon and diego had

not to mention in the end diego actually loved and respected violetta, francesca AND ludmila, something tomas spectacularly failed to do

GLADLY

• german truly cares about leon and sometimes vilu will walk in on her dad looking fondly at her bf while he's not looking, but as soon as german notices her he tries to act all tough again before giving up after some time

• leon once asked olga to teach him how to cook violetta's favorite cake and she's been hogging him every time he visits since then, the bright side is that he knows how to cook a lot of things now

• it's ramallo who has to distract her long enough so leon can sneak into vilu's room every time, it makes violetta laugh and while she still can't get as much alone time with him as she wants, seeing how her family loves him makes her really happy

• actually when they truly want to be alone they go to leon's room because his mom is way more chill about them (and she adores violetta too)

• some time after s3 they came back to the studio just the two of them to visit angie and the other professors, and it was during one of angie's classes, when she saw them she asked them to sing for her students

• leon went to the piano and started playing voy por ti and it sent violetta back to that one time they sang it during that same class all these years ago and she's just. overwhelmed with love and everything that happened since then, most of all she's overwhelmed by the fact that singing with leon will always make her feel safe and loved

• i think if they ever get married it wouldn't be before a LONG time because violetta is probably kinda fed up with marriages thanks to german, she wants to take her time even though she knows she'll spend her life with leon

• vilu was the third person leon ever came out to, and while he didn't make a huge deal out of it, it was the first time it ever truly mattered to him. the first person to know was diego, and he simply knew because they once started making out so he obviously had a feeling he wasn't straight, the second one was andres because leon really needed to talk about the diego thing with someone

• but with violetta, he told her because it was an important part of him he wanted to share with her, and she was SO supportive once she realized what he was saying

• she probably bought him so much bi merch and was truly happy about it so if leon's mom once comes into his room to see 3 bi flags and 2 rainbow ones he just lets that happen

• (his mom is really supportive too)

• he also tells vilu about the diego thing and she makes fun of him for that because sure he "couldn't stand him"

• sometimes they talk about boys together and she has to pretend she's not lowkey jealous when he tells her he thinks that one dancer in the mv of her last song is kinda cute

• but generally speaking they worked on their jealousy a lot, and while they will sometimes pout or be a bit more affectionate than usual if someone is flirting with the other, they matured a lot and are handling that way better now (plus working in this industry and having to get used to the distance helped a lot with their communication skills)

• also while i don't think they'd ever kiss in public they're still that annoying pda couple who are always cuddling on the couch while you're talking to them

i love the exploration into the past that tua dips into. necessary to pad the runtime, but also so we really understand where everyone comes from. the show does this to a much smaller extent.

and seeing five adapt to the apocalypse is great.

variable: as mentioned before, comic five loved it there, because he didn't have to do missions anymore (which tells you how miserable he was, to prefer a hellscape where everyone's dead to being experiment fodder).

constant: five always adapts, and grits it out for an entire lifetime.

cand constant: he obsesses over a way home, nearly gives up, and is interrupted.

though variable: in the comics five finds the equation to take him home (through hallucinating the answer via dolores), and is snatched out of the timestream by the commission on the way back. in the show, the handler arrives to pluck him up, before he ever gets the answer.

but constant: five always looks for a way to get back to the moment he left and lands in the apocalypse instead.

"the end of something" huh. remember when the show made it seem like there was an actual plan at work, and then s2 said 'oh it's just that the shareholders want the world to end bc they feel like it.' trash.

variable: the commission wanting the apocalypse to happen here and now. in the comics, they aren't involved beyond trying to re-recruit five... because this apocalypse is averted.

constant: five has a handler.

variable: the handler's gender, humanity, personality and relationship to him. and the handler showing up in apoc suite when he's just in dallas.

handler is Like That because either a) they couldn't afford the fish, or b) they were too chickenshit to try the fish. an entirely live-action constraint that i get. and i like establishing the character here, because we have the time to do it, and need to build our s2 antagonist.

i like the genderbending, but i still miss the fish. otherwise i like that five and handler's dynamic gets so much more filled in. idk how necessary i find the sexual dimension to them, but i love how they're always trying to one-up each other.

constant: five's involvement in the commission. his speech is literally littered with quotes from the comic. he's always the best of the best, and he's always involved with the hindenberg.

variable: show-tua takes place in a world where kennedy dies anyway. comic tua takes place in a world where he lives and the political landscape is totally different.

also... man i love how s2 has the characters somehow give a shit about saving kennedy when they come from a world where he always died and shit was just fine. makes no sense.

(and side note, the show doing a grainy 60s-era film reel with the flashback is wonderful. god the filmmaking was strong then)

now that the show has the briefcase-time-machine mechanic they now have to play a dozen rounds of 'make sure no one can use the briefcase time machine.' this is round one.

variable: briefcase time machines. in the comics they don't exist. a clever show addition, but a mechanic that's gonna get real tired the more they frantically try to write the cases away.

variable: allison is the one who favors scarves in the comics.

and i think that vanya and leonard rushing into their relationship, while it says a lot about who vanya is as a person, does kind of make things questionable. coulda worked if he was smoking hot.

i'd like to see maybe a version of the story where they're already a couple, or even just friends, when apoc suite starts. could be interesting.

variable: the family all left at once in the show. in the comics, again, the breakup was gradual. it was five at ten, vanya at ~17, ben's death sometime just before or after, klaus a little while after ben dies, then allison or diego (order unknown).

constant: allison getting coffee for people.

and man. do. i. hate. how allison just trails after vanya in episode after episode. the writers didn't bother to give her her own plotline (and looking back at it and realizing how they never were going to let allison have her day in the sun as the protagonist of the dallas arc season, it's real clear exactly why they decided not to bother with her).

anyway. the case for woc vanya is stronger: if vanya and allison are both woc, then the unfortunate black bff trope vibe the writers made goes away. if allison's white and vanya's a woc, doubly so.

everyone talks about great tua music moments but this is one of the best: the use of 'feels like heaven' by fiction factory. a song about an abusive relationship that likens it to having your body crushed. playing over an abusive couple days before one party shatters the other's body.

in the comics, it's for the orchestra verrdammten and she doesn't get in. in the pilot, she tries to in the teaser and is rejected.
