Wish more adaptations would take the route like Mike Flannigan works or House MD or Hannibal. "Based on" in the sense of taking inspiration from source material and playing with them like dolls and saying something unique and creative with it outside of the material while maintaining key dynamics and themes that make it recognizable to the source.
Really sick of "faithful" adaptations that mean all the aesthetics and names and plots but told in such a soulless themeless mess. Did you think because the source already taught the lessons you don't need to say anything this time, you can just copy-paste?
The equivalent of cutting up the source to make a collage versus bringing it back from the dead wrong.

Okay BEARING in mind please that I have a lot of thought out ATLA opinions (most of them can be found in the tag for my first rewatch) & also that i do not analyze smartly on first watches / read throughs of ANYTHING (examples include that on my first watch of Buffy I shipped Buffy/Xander & hated Dawn, on my first watch of ATLA I disliked Azula for a long time & didn’t care about Jet, on my first watch of Scream I wanted Dewey to be the killer because of Scary Movie. I could go on probably)
—- here are my initial reactions to ATLA LA as someone who’s been having fun watching (usually tipsy) & enjoying my faves in live action even if it’s badly written 😃
Pros:
Jet is hot
Uh… um. Uh… umm. That was my big one okay..
….
….
Oh! Oh! Suki is also hot.
….
I think Katara’s live action actress did a really nice job even if I don’t always love how she was written I could tell this girl put her heart into it
Same with Azula’s actress tbh. And Aang. Zuko & Iroh also. It took me a second to get used to this Iroh but acting wise ignoring the script Zuko & Iroh did good. (Sokka & Yue were only okay but they didn’t do bad by any means once I got used to them.)
Azula’s intro was super fun. I thought for a second they were even gonna do something fun with her & this whole ratting out the rebellion plot. Also the actress did good & there were a few parts that were well written like her early displays of insecurity & her beating the shit out of that trainer & shooting Zuko’s letter. There was promise until there wasn’t.
They didn’t do a bad job of combining some of the plots. “Masks” was the strongest for me. It did a nice job showcasing several plots & I really enjoyed the significance placed on Zuko valuing the lives of inexperienced soldiers. Everything just came together super well in that episode with the Koh plot & everything. Now that certain criticisms of the Omashu episodes (like Jet’s mischaracterization in hurting his own people) have been brought up to me I dislike those episodes more than on my first watch through but I still think the Freedom Fighters were fun to see. And if you don’t analyze it too hard the plot combinations are fun. Anyway why would you analyze this adaptation too hard?
Cons:
Why isn’t Azula scared of Ozai? I get it he’s forged her into the perfect weapon & she did what he technically wanted but she disrespected him publicly & he was fine? Okay.
Above mentioned explanation of why Jet wasn’t done right ^^ He shouldn’t be willing to hurt Earth Kingdom citizens. Even if it was fun to see his logic & the Jetara moments & I do think the actor did a good job (no I’m not just saying that ‘cause he’s hot. That helps though).
Katara didn’t have to struggle at all she’s just a #girlboss! Isn’t that great? #feminism!
Who’s this super serious kid who always puts the mission first & where’s my silly goofy guy who wants to go on endless side quests? The actor does decent but that’s just not Aang.
Discount Zhao 😭😂
I just -
Discount Zhao lmaoooo 😭
Overall: I had fun. I will repeat myself - this is like the Harry Potter movies or the Series of Unfortunate Events tv show or any other adaptation of something I loved in its original form that’s never going to get it quite right to me. I hated some things. I had fun with other parts. Mostly? It was just fun to see my faves in a new format. It’ll never ever live up to the original but I never in a million years wanted nor expected that. Quite frankly? I didn’t want this to be made at all. But since it is whether I wanted it or not? I’m glad it was at least entertaining & enjoyable to have fun with.
This was ALWAYS going to be an example of what I call the “Marvelification” of television. Nothing is nuanced everything is quippy everyone’s edges are dulled. I never expected anything else so I’m not even listing that as a con it’s just a given to me. Binge culture whole season releases & the endless remakes & reboots of streaming sites are the death of television. This is again just a given to me I don’t have much more to say about it right now (though I’m sure I do just not now).
The original ATLA will always mean everything to me & this was just a fun little adaptation. Like a fanfic. If it gets renewed? Sure I’ll have fun watching more. But if it doesn’t I truly don’t care. Anyway I’m sure I’ll have more thoughts eventually these are INITIAL reactions please don’t treat them like I signed this post in blood I’m just thinking out loud having just finished this show! That’s all for now lol

Now that i've watched every one piece movie that isn't a retelling of an anime arc or straw hat chase i'm gonna go ahead and indulge in the very human tendency of ranking them in order from best to worst (SPOILERS!!!!):
One Piece: Strong World. Maybe it's because this was the first movie i watched and my first experience with one piece in animation but strong world has remained my favorite since day one (though the second place is very very close i must say). The straw hats are all great and have their little moment to shine the plot is solid and they do a great job with nami, out of the four straw hats with a movie more focused on them she's by far the one that gets the best treatment. Strong world is in the perfect position of being a pre time skip movie, so it's not dragged down by the expanding cast of post time skip, but also since it was the tenth anniversary movie they put in more effort than with the previous movies and it shows. Also sanjis cowboy outfit instantly makes it top tier.
One Piece: Film Gold. I'm... kind of obsessed with this movie?? Seeing the straw hats in a heist really scratched an itch i didn't know i had but my god does it feel good. The designs really excelled here the crew looks gorgeous throughout the entire movie and tesoro's island is so interesting and fits very well in the one piece world. Tesoro is also my favorite villain of any movie, i've seen people say he's the perfect blend between crocodile and doffy and that's so true lmao. Loved having zoro as the damsell in distress, inject that shit straight into my veins i love it when the strong character is the one in need of rescue. Everyone was very cool during the heist but i remember really enjoying franky and luffy's dynamic cause lbr we're kinda starved of it in the manga so it was nice to see them interact so much here. Overall amazing movie and the only one i've rewatched out of all of them.
Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island. This movie has become a cult classic amongst the fandom and with good reason. It breaks away from the loud spectacle of the other movies and is quieter and more unsettling and so far the only example of actual psychological horror in the lore. I've talked about this before but that final scene with the straw hats cheering luffy on even while they're being consumed by the baron and luffy struggling to the brink of death to save them changed me... I love seeing this family love each other so much!!
Clockwork Island Adventure. I know, I know what's the second movie doing so high up... but it was just so good!! It's very short but that's just a benefit to the plot and i love the gimmick of each straw hat being captured one by one till it's just luffy remaining and the one who has to free them (can you tell i love the movies where the straw hats are kidnapped and the others have to rescue them?? that's my drug). Sanji's fight in this movie kicks ass too, the animation is gorgeous.
One Piece: Film Red. This might seem like a sin, to have this movie so far down the list cause i've seen its pretty unanimously tied up with baron omatsuri as the best movie but to be honest i feel like that's just recency bias. The movie is still a spectacle and the songs slap and yes one of them was in the top 5 of my spotify wrapped this year lol. Uta is a good antagonist but i was never that hooked by her shared past with shanks and luffy, mainly because it's so aggressively impossible for it to be canon, it almost broke my suspension of disbelief. Zosan sleeping side by side was pleasing to my monkey brain and it almost made up for including st charlos in the movie seriously what the fuck was he doing there-
One piece: Stampede. The start of this movie is amazing cause they come up with the perfect competition to have all of these pirate crews on the same place but it quickly devolves into a "how many characters can we fit in" contest and the plot quickly turns into "lets all beat up the villain", which is fine! I did like seeing so many characters, at one point half way through the movie crocodile just appears out of nowhere lmao but hey i'm not complaining i love crocodile. Usopp is the straw hat who's focused on the most in the movie and i feel conflicted with what they did with him cause it just felt like they were making him go through his water 7 arc all over again by having his inferiority complex flaring up. And usopps arc was amazing in water 7 but reviving it for this movie felt a bit weird and repetitive. Despite this though i was very happy seeing him getting the focus, usopp is a painfully underrated character so having him on the spotlight is always welcome.
Dead End Adventure. This movie is a lot of fun. There's a bar fight, a secret pirate race and sanji being his sneaky self and helping out luffy during the final fight. Whats not to love?
One Piece: Film Z. Much like Stampede, i really enjoyed the start of this movie cause the monster trio get to briefly fight the big baddie together, but the plot kinda loses some steam for me after that. Also they tried to make the admirals sympathetic cause the villain is a retired admiral who was once their mentor but i really really really dont care about the marines at all so that was a bit awkward. The straw hats look stunning in this movie, i love that in the movies they give them a million different outfits and the ones from this one absolutely slayed.
Choppers Kingdom on the Island of Strange Animals. Another fun movie where all the straw hats get a moment be cool. There's a kid on this island who i found completely insufferable but i can forgive this movie cause this is also where zosan have that famous scene where they praise the other to their defeated oponent, which made my monkey brain happy.
One Piece: The Movie. This movie's biggest misstep is that sanji isn't in it, but even with this critical flaw it was still quite enjoyable. Zoro is very funny on his own but add luffy into the mix and their dynamic was hilarious. Usopp as always was great. The villain is small potatoes tbh but not really the important part of the movie, which focuses more on the relationship between the kid they meet and his gramps. The final message was surprisingly very sweet. Also sanji appears briefly in the end credits to appease me.
Giant Mechanical Soldier of Karakuri Castle. This movie is a-okay. The villains are a complete joke and it takes the crew less than five minutes to deal with them. The crew dynamics carry all of my enjoyment with this one.
The Cursed Holy Sword. Yeah... this movie commited the unforgivable sin of having zoro as the main focus and yet managing to do absolutely nothing interesting with him. Even if they did shamelessly create kuina 2.0 with saga, they could've delved into how zoro would react when two different duties (his promise to saga and his position as the crew swordsman) clash against each other... but instead we see no conflict with zoro, even though we all know this situation would be conflicting for him. They just make him scowl throughout the whole runtime and thats just not who Zoro is... Luffy and usopp are a lot of fun though.
TL; DR my ranking is:
Strong World
Gold
Baron Omatsuri
Clockword Island
Red
Stampede
Dead End
Z
Choppers Kingdom
One Piece: The Movie
Karakuri Castle
Cursed Holy Sword
Conclusion: the one piece brainrot is no joke.

So it’s been pretty much a week now and having rewatched the first episode of Only Friends a couple of times, and before the next episode drops Saturday I wanted to ramble and put down some thoughts I can look back on about how much I love this show so far. (I know it’s only been 1 episode but fuck it.)
Tumblr media
Firstly, I want to compliment the aesthetics of the show. The styling of sets and the characters are striking. Lighting, soundtrack, the colouring of the scenes. I’m no film student or anything, but for me it’s a good looking show. And I love the vibes. It has an edge beyond that of the BL tag in my mind. It’s got those QAF and Skins vibes as well as other shows about young adults we had here in the UK that I watched growing up, and I love it.
The sex stuff (+mature/toxic behaviour). I’m aware there are various opinions and comparisons. Too little, too much. This show vs that show/movie. There’s space for all kinds of shows/stories. You want fluffy sure, second turn on the right. Want trauma inducing and everybody dies, keep heading straight at the crossroads. You have the right to not watch and let others enjoy what they enjoy. Regardless of gender/sexuality humans are flawed. They screw up their own lives and other peoples, and they fuck (except those who don’t). Personally, I consume anything that’s entertaining and god damn Only Friends is entertaining.
Anyway, personally, I thought the sex fit in nicely to the story. And I say story because I’m not really one to just want to watch or read about people shagging for the sake of it. Actually, I once submitted a story to a publisher and (feeling like Up’s character in Lovely Writer here) they wanted me to up the heat and add more sex. For me, I need a purpose, even if the sex is the purpose. For example Boston in this episode. Fucking was the reason. It was part of his character. The scene was for his gratification not the viewers. I loved it being all rushed and frantic and there being only one goal - to come. And mixing it with Nick wanking and them climaxing at the same time. Genius scene to be honest. And to follow that up later with them actually getting together and the classic fade to black. We know what’s gonna go down - Nick’s hand down Boston’s pants that’s what 😃
Then we have Top and Mew, a very different scene - slower, more intimate. These characters have very different intentions. Top chasing the goal of Mew’s virginity. To succeed he needs to go steady, lull Mew in by making him feel good. And then Mew who’s maybe pushing his limits as to what he’s comfortable with. As a once virgin myself, I can’t argue with him wanting a little attention, some kisses, and some chest groping lol. But in the end, he cant go all the way, at least not with a one night stand, so the scene shifts. Top maybe pushes it, but I’m glad he ended up being a decent guy (at least in this moment) and accepted Mew wasn’t ready.
So characters.
No point in me hiding it but I’m here because of Khaotung, Neo and First. Khao has had my heart since 2gether. Neo got added to that list after TonhonChonlatee (sorry Tonhon but Na was where it was at lol) and then the trinity was completed with The Eclipse with First. So, high on my Eclipse feels I’m hit with the Only Friends trailer and it was an immediate ‘sign me up’. Since then, Mark did get my interest, loved him in MSP and MLC, and I’ve also got to know Book and Force more since A Boss and a Babe (sorry if any Enchante lovers see this - at the time I only watched ep 1 and it didn’t grab me so have yet to finish it - maybe one day lol).
The fact Khaotung is playing him is a big bonus but have to say RAY is currently my favourite character. I have a soft spot for the characters who seem to be dealing with baggage and I would assume binge drinking, and considering himself ‘unimportant’ are likely signs (along with other bits seen from the trailer). He seems like a dickhead but is actually a squishy baby who needs love and protection (mainly from himself). At least my take so far. I am worried about him and his lack of self preservation, he’s lucky Sand was a stand up guy because handing your phone, car and yourself over to a stranger is a terrible idea. He was passed out and defenceless and if Sand was looking to take advantage in some way, he could have been in real trouble. (Thinks about the sobbing scene in the trailer) I hope nothing bad has or will happen to him if he’s in such a drunken state again. It’s sad he would have just accepted Sand and him had had sex because Sand was hot.
Tumblr media
Moving on to SAND. Though a bit aggressive in a ‘I’m so done with everybody’ kind of way, he seems to be a decent guy who just wanted to take a piss in peace lol. We didn’t get too much of him. He gave me mature and big bro vibes and was rubbing Ray’s back when he was retching over the loo - wonder if he’s done that for anyone else in his life? He was a bit standoffish to start (rightly so at some points) but seemed to soften up a bit when Ray was genuinely apologising and saying thanks to him. Also, the slight look/hesitation when Ray asked him if he knew him in the bathrooms. Does he? Even if from a distance? Can’t wait to see where these two go from here.
Next. BOSTON. Well, he certainly likes to get his end away. I don’t dislike him (yet). Screwing around doesn’t make you a bad person. Chasing after red wristbands might make you a little bit of a dick, but I’m generally less against the ‘third party’ and more judging the one who has a partner who is doing the cheating (though here it was more an open, we enjoy a threesome relationship he was getting entangled in). Anyway, I enjoyed Boston and his facial expressions, and his ‘hunting’. Will reevaluate when he starts breaking hearts.
And first in line to get his heart broken, NICK. Not sure our boy will be getting employee of the month snooping through customer phones and jerking off to their half naked selfies lol. He seems a nice enough guy, and as with all the characters it was a decent intro to him. I enjoyed the tension between him and Boston. He recognised him from uni it seems so maybe had his eye on him and finally got a chance to interact, which they certainly did. The preview already showed him getting attached so I’m ready for him to be heartbroken 💔
MEW. A seemingly precious baby who just wants to read his books and save his virginity for something more meaningful than a one night stand. Haven’t much to say about him at the moment as taking him at face value for now. But interested to see how he gets to the point of yeeting Boston into the pool in the trailer lol.
TOP. *narrows eyes* I have no idea if I trust him. He clearly had one mission at the start, but then based on his and Mew’s conversation over ice cream, and how it seems others only view him as the top of the top, a prize to hook up with, I did feel like he was genuinely surprised and intrigued by Mew stopping the hookup before sex. In his scene with Boston, he also said he wanted to date Mew, but because he found him interesting. I don’t know if it’s still a bit of a challenge to him to get Mew to date him because it’d be fun, so whether his goal is still to try and get laid and then he’d dump Mew and move on… We’ll see I guess *side eyes trailer*
(NAM?)CHEUM. Not too much of her but she fits in well as the fourth member on the main friend group. Would be interesting to see how they know each other and for how long. Guess we’ll have to wait and see if she gets a storyline of her own or if, as she had a red wristband on, it’ll be happy lesbian shenanigans now and again to contrast everyone else’s drama and her being there observing her friends self destruct.
Thinky thoughts going into the next episodes.
1. Please tell me the guy Yo is with in the intro is called Lo.
2. I’m wondering if Papang is playing Nick’s boss. Can’t remember the trailer scene setting well other than a laptop in front of them. Maybe he catches Nick and Boston on the cctv.
3. Top & Boston scene in the trailer. Could it be a flashback? Didn’t feel like a flashback but who knows. Assuming it’s not, I wonder what gets Top to a point where he can’t wait for Mew anymore and bangs Boston? Did they have a fight? Were they ‘on a break’? Did Mew pick Ray or something else over him? (I’ve seen the outfit analysing lol)
4. I’m gonna repeat here that I’m worried Ray will get himself in some real trouble getting blackout drunk. He has his arm in a sling in one scene in the trailer so there could be an accident or a fight. But he’s also a sobbing mess and Mew comforting him and well… I hope he stays safe.
5. Interested to see who and how Title’s character will tie into what’s going on. Pilot trailer implied he’s a friend/worked at the bar with Sand.
6. Nick already got them heart eyes. Poor boy’s gonna suffer. But props for the bold move of sending Boston that photo.
7. Oh yeah, Drake! I’d gone with it maybe being Papang out of the cast we knew about from the trailer. Well done to the people who were like ‘that’s Drake’ lol. I had joked about hoping they just brought in a whole bunch of the gmmtv boys to play one night stands or drunken kisses on the dance floor so I’m one for one for boys and episode so far lol.
8. Mew hiding behind and pushing Cheum towards a vomiting Ray in the first scenes was everything lol.
9. Ray’s outfits 😍
10. They did pretty well covering up The 1975’s poster in Sand’s apartment as had to go see when I saw someone point it out (I can’t imagine trying to edit around moving, talking characters)
11. I feel sad that Ray cared more about his belongings than himself.
12. Sand’s ‘I am so done’ face. Especially when Top ‘borrowed’ his mic.
13. And about that. Public propositions like that are a hell no from me. I’d hate to be cornered like that. I mean it’s okay if you’re going to say yes I suppose. But what if it’s not a yes? Like what do you do in front of everyone. Say no and look like the asshole?
14. Top washed his hands after going to the bathroom. Top tier indeed.
15. That intro sequence going from one character to the next - very cool. Also the days of the week montage.
16. Dear Ray, please don’t throw up again. *lowers volume a little bit* 🤢
17. Props to the friends wanting to turn the theory business plan of a hostel into the real thing. I think I’d be Boston in the group and just be dragged along and agree to whatever lol.
18. That intro is definitely a non-skip. Everybody be looking damn fine!
19. Watching everyone’s expression regarding Ray, Mew and Top. Boston knows Ray likes Mew and damn if he doesn’t seem to enjoy poking at him. Also at one point I started to wonder if there was anything else beyond jealousy between Ray and Top. Probably just Ray having had some drinks so reacting in no way subtly lol. And then Mew’s expressions when Ray leaves both times. Does he know? Is he just concerned his friend is storming off and drinking? Hmm.
Tumblr media
20. Let Ray and Boston kiss you cowards lol
Bring on episode 2.

one person asked me to share my thoughts on the Red White & Royal Blue movie and that’s all i need so here you go! spoilers below
Okay so let’s start with the things I did like:
Taylor and Nick had AMAZING chemistry. They did a fantastic job with what they were given and I can genuinely envision them as the book characters. All the cast did a great job.
The scene with Alex and Ellen was so heart touching. As a queer person who’s come out to their parent and not been accepted, I almost started bawling when I saw Ellen holding Alex on the couch and telling him how much she loves and accepts him. It was a beautiful thing to see and I’m so happy we have more of that kind of representation in media; a safe space to come out and be yourself. Also Ellen’s knowledge of all the different labels in the community and her saying “The B in LGBT isn’t silent” is super empowering.
On that note, Alex’s speech at the end about privacy and how it’s your choice to come out (if you want to come out). Again, a very important message for people to hear and understand. Seeing the effects of being outed hopefully will open people’s eyes and we’ll see less pressure for people to come out or label themselves. And also hopefully people will stop butting into celebs lives in general.
To end the short list of things I liked: the bit with the phone calls was done in a clever way. I thought it was pretty cool, although it felt too much like walmart Heartstopper.
Now, on to everything I didn’t like about this movie
The writing was SO. FREAKING. LAZY. 90% of the movie is exposition. All tell no show. They pretty much only payed attention to the sex scenes and even those weren’t very interesting.
THEY CUT SO MANY THINGS. When I heard they cut June and Rafael, I was disappointed but figured it was to save time and they’d combine their stories with Nora/Liam respectively (which is what I heard). To my absolute disappointment, neither was done and on top of that they introduced this new character named Miguel who is nothing more than a jealous ex hookup. Not only that, they erased Alex’s parent’s divorce and Henry’s mother, two very important parts of their character backstories.
Continuing on about things that were cut, pretty much any actual bonding time we see with Henry and Alex in the book was reduced to short one-minute scenes and cheap montages. Instead they were replaced with beats that were 15-seconds too long that were meant to say something but simply didn’t translate properly.
Also, they completely cut out Alex’s whole awakening and immediately jumped to him coming out to Henry when they meet up after their first kiss. I get it made for a cute little haha funny banter moment but COME ON. Part of Alex’s character arc is him coming to terms with who he is after denying it for so long, and seeing that process is so important to show for people who are doing the same.
The movie felt so fast paced. Every ten minutes a new important story beat happened without giving the audience any real time to process whatever happened before that. By the time they were in Paris I had no interest in them “making love” for the first time.
I’m gonna make an example of this before it stands out as the most annoying thing to me still. The museum scene is a masterpiece in the books but on the big screen it’s so…bad. Half of the scene was done in voiceover for no reason (once again going back to exposition) and the other half was so boring I could barely pay attention. And the “history, huh?” moment being a spoken thing between them, as opposed to through email like in the book’s completely erases the basis all of their supporters held onto in the books. All the signs, the t-shirts, the graffiti, the way they did it in the movie makes it so none of that could exist.
I really wish we saw Alex’s side of things when they got exposed, especially the way it effected his mother’s campaign. I wanted to see him he told he’s off the campaign and how badly it hurt him. Instead we got one scene of exposition and a single shot of him gushing abt Henry and saying he misses him.
From a cinematography perspective, there was some very pretty shots that were obviously made to turn into promo posters.
That’s pretty much all I got for now off the top of my head. I’ve been trying to cleanse my brain of the film for the past 4 hours lmao
If you have your own opinions, please share respectfully!! I want to hear what you liked or disliked about this.

When reading a book, watching a show or a movie, or even experiencing real life, I often find, when a major character or important person dies, I mourn, not so much the person but more their loved ones, the great bond lost and the incredible damage done to them. Over time, almost subconciously I have grown to value a great bond of love, lust, friendship, romance, great platonic love, or that weird sixth thing two inseperable stray cats have, almost as much as human knowledge, something I greatly revere. This is most prominent in fantasy worlds, where for certain there is some haven beyond the barrier of death, where a person and their knowledge can go to live in harmony after whatever happened to them. Yet leaving their loved ones behind for years to come, perhaps forever. Maybe it is more amplified in the real world, or universes like the star wars one and my belief of real life, where there is no life after death. Just nothing. All bonds severed by death's scythe in one fell swoop.
I will list an example for every book/tv show/movie I can. Spoilers ahead for: The Bad Batch, The Scythe series by Neal Shusterman, Harry Potter, Trials Of Apollo, The Six of Crows duology, The Lord of The Rings
The death of Tech, a clone from the bad batch. His close, paternal bond with Omega, shattered as he sacrificed himself before her eyes, the unrequited mutual love with the pirate lady whom he promised he would come back safely and of course the rest of the bad batch, now a gaping hole within their group.
The death of Tiger, the Best friend of Rowan in the scythe series, slain by people he was played by and his body contorted into a new one for Rowan's greatest enemy. Their friendship gone and spited by the monstosity created from his headless corpse.
The death of Sirius Black and the huge damage it did to Harry and Remus Lupin. Harry losing his first ever loving paternal figure he can remember and Lupin losing a dear best friend (or more considering what half of you post about)
The death of Jason Grace. Killed slowing down an unkillable enemy to save his friends and close-ex-lover Piper McLean, leaving behind at least a dozen dear friends who fought, battle after battle together, almost dying time and time again, only for him to fall far away, after it was meant to be over. And specifically Nico Di Angelo who as anyone who read the book will know had a priceless, unique friendship with him that simply could not be created with another.
The death of Matthias Hevlar, just beggining to fit in with the people around them and his romantic relationship just springing up with Nina, those bonds once again shattered, and the last thing he asked for was a kiss (hold up just gonna go cry for a second).
Edit: The edit is here for the smoothness of the post. I cannot believe I forgot. The very ones who inspired me to make this post in the first place. David and Genya from the Grishaverse and the King Of Scars duology. Another romantic one I'm aware however they had just had a wonderful ceremony, a proper marriage at last. And then David left to go do something and the city was attacked by bomber planes. He wasn't seen throughout the following fight until Genya noticed his absence at the end. They later pulled his body out of the rubble. Some ink Genya was fussing over still there. Queue the funeral, Genya, in private afterwards reads from his notebooks containing all the little things he picked up on that make her happy (hair, skin etc). I am genuinely tearing up just thinking about it. David was also a leader and a role model to the other Grisha, especially other fabrikators. Close friends with Nikolai and Zoya. All of these bonds gone.
The leaving of Frodo Baggins. This one is a little different as he isn't dead but to all of his friends but Gandalf and Bilbo, he is. Never able to be seen or contacted again, no way to hear or feel them either. Sam, who carried him up a mountain. Refused to leave his side ever. Pippin, Merry, Legolas, Gimli, Aragorn, All his shire friends, All the people they met along the way. Those bonds were shattered as if he was dead.
This last one is very different. It takes place in the real world. This death is obviously a thousand times more important then any of the others. A real human with thoughts, feelings and of course friends. This person is Technoblade. Funny, kind, skillful, he was friends with pretty much everyone he played with, best friends with those like Philza and of course the people around him in real life. The innumerable amount of people he either just made laugh, or helped get through some really dark times. Like me. 10 million people. Bonds reasonably one way but still there. 10 million people. Bonds snapped like rubber bands. All his friends. Online and off. Those he helped, those he inspired. All grieving with that bond suddenly a gaping hole, all lost. o7 Techno. Fly high.
Edit: I cannot believe I forgot. The very ones who inspired me to make this post in the first place,

tell me about your favorite movies and books!! i wanna dissect your brain (lovingly) (affectionate)
Choccy my belovedest you broke in through my bedroom window at 3am with the hardest question asked of mankind huh 😭❤️❤️ i have so many favs!!! i dont remember any of them!! but. i will try to make an effort because i love you 💕 so! 5 movies/tv shows and 5 books ayy
For Media,
• City of God!!!
the pace of this movie is insane, i call it the movie that never sleeps, both narrative wise and production wise. It's constantly in motion and a whirlwind of a wild story but it never loses its ground and its significance, which is not something i can say about
• Shameless US
jesus. listen, Shameless US is as wonderful as it's shit, in equal measures. It's a story that feels like the best unprotected sex of your life that also gave you Hepatitis B. ShU travels into territories noone dares to tread, and sometimes it's a cheap hitch in the back of a junkie's stolen van, and sometimes it's a first class experience in Bono's private jet; no inbetween. It's insanely creative, insanely unapologetic and honest, hits like an unexpected 2am urge to go scream from the rooftop of your house, and it's quite frankly unforgettable, both in its bad and good moments.
• Tokyo Godfathers
MOVIE OF ALL TIME!!! MOVIE OF ALL TIME I TELL YA!!!!
• Doukyuusei
This bitch here is SO dear to me, i dont even know how to describe it. It's quite different from the manga, and i love the manga so much i think about it more than 3 seconds and i die, but the story feels more fluid in movie format. To me Doukyuusei is the best example of how you can tell the richest and most fascinating and intriguing story without ugly shock value or Angst TM or stupid twists; just life as it happens. The Manga's characterizations are so intricate and complex and distinct it blows your mind, not a single stereotype in sight. I really need Doukyuusei to be some kinda food so i can eat it for the rest of my life.
• Corvette Summer
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I have no excuses. This is my trademark movie, the Farimah TM movie, i've claimed it and i bite anyone who gets close. It's so saccharine it rots half of your tooth halfway in and i love a good "take of life all you can; for the love of gods want something, anything, take what is yours and never apologise twice" story. I adore how flirty and sweet and soft this movie is. Plus, yeah, Mark Hamill and Annie Potts. The dream sandwich.
• Honorary mention: Blue Eye Samurai
Simply the most intelligent piece of media i have seen in the last 5 years, holy fucks. It works your brain on 99 different subtle levels to the point that it makes you glad to possess a brain and being able to comprehend stories. It's a challenging watch, intellectually, emotionally— solid makes you proud to understand it the way you'd be proud after finishing a 6k piece puzzle.
And as for books, i've mostly been indulging my fiction thirst with fanfic and flash fiction, and been mainly reading nonfiction in terms of published stuff, so, yeah, it's gonna get a bit technical. sorry.
• Tara Campbell's "Angels and Blueberries"
This story healed 15 years of my childhood trauma with 30% discount.
• Anne Waldron Neumann's "Monologues with Euphemisms"
There's something about flash fiction that forces people to get creative and by gods creative they get. The structure of this piece is so unconventional and sturdy it makes my brain sing 99 motown tunes. Speaking of story structure though,
• Jane Alison's "Meander, Spiral, Explode"
This is a book about story structure. I read it in pieces the way you read poetry and philosophy essays. Take of that what you will. Like, this is such meta read; you can analyse the book itself on its narrative flow and rhythm. I think i learnt more about Aristotle's idealogies reading this book than i learnt by reading Aristotle's essays. and this is the second "nonfiction that reads like poetry" book on this list. The first one is,
• Carlo Rovelli's "The Order Of Time"
Yep. Quantum physics is art to me by nature, but Rovelli really drives the art part home, and he's so sexy for it. This book is so lyrical and it plays with your heartstrings as much as it plays with your brain, i dont care about what category it falls under; this is top notch fiction to me.
• John Luckovich's "The Instinctual Drives And The Enneagram"
an older read i keep picking up every other half year, since i got into Luckovich's theories back in 2017, but yeah, this book is basically the foundation of majority of my worldviews, the spine of it. Luckovich is such thorough and unconventional thinker, getting into his stuff uprooted my brain in uncomfortable ways, and it's been an exhilarating journey.
• Honorary mention: Peter A. Levine's "Waking The Tiger"
Honestly? if i had to give someone one single book to read in their lifetime and nothing else, this would be it. I reference this book mentally in my everyday life so goddamn much i think it's etched into my DNA at this point, this book and Luckovich's theories on human instinct.
Thank you for picking my brain love, be sure to drop the diagnosis in my inbox later 🤣❤️

☕️ WNSD
🎶 We're coming after you, We're gonna solve that mysteryyyyy 🎶
No okay but I loooovvvveeeeee What's New so much oh my god. It's probably the iteration of Scooby I've seen the highest percentage of episodes of (excluding SDMI) and if I had to pick my favorite Scooby series of them all. More than any of the others really (although a little WAY), What's New was the Scooby of my childhood, and so many of its episodes are just total classics for me as well.
I think WNSD is very beloved by the Scooby collective (and for good reason) but honestly STILL is underrated in my mind, especially the early episodes. I absolutely adore some of the little "plot twists" of the WNSD era and how creative it could be within the confines of "the Scooby formula". I mentioned many of these in another post recently but having unexpected solutions/elements like "the monkey did it!" or "we caught the wrong guy! We need to go back!" every few episodes just blew my brain wide open as a child (especially the second one there. I'm STILL in shock on that one) and are underappreciated by scooby fandom. (Despite WNSD winning the favorite scooby series poll I did lol)
Being my favorite doesn't mean that What's New is perfect though. There are still some moments I don't like, or that, while useful for a joke, fall flat for me character-wise. One example I think I've talked about before is the scene where they split up differently and Fred is left alone searching for clues with Shaggy. The punchline of this is the idea that Fred and Shaggy just don't have anything in common to talk about, going along in awkward silence until Fred asks Shaggy if he 'saw the game last night' to which he says no and they continue on in awkward silence. For me, that's not my favorite joke because I do believe that Fred and Shaggy are good friends and DO have lots to talk about, and while not my favorite interaction between the two, I can still mesh it pretty easily into my own personal canon with a few simple Watsonian explanations. Ex: They were both overthinking it and didn't know what to say, Fred grabbed a conversation starter from his go to list (he's been working very hard on his social interaction skills, okay?! Only 3/4 of them are about nets/mysteries/the gang/the Mystery Machine!) and struck out big time.
No but as I was saying as much as I adore WNSD, nothing is perfect, and at times (especially in some movies) What's New also suffers from the WAY/TSDS cultural................. awkwardness that comes from the "white guy dressing up as native/cultural legend" plot line.
OH AND THE SOUNDTRACK. What's New rightly gets its due (lol) for having an absolutely killer theme song (and sequence too!!!!) but I think it should get extra points on top of that as well for the chase music in each episode. What's New easily has some of my favorite chase music (leading to some favorite chase sequences) which makes watching it an even better time (some of those songs are catchy!!!!!) And I just love the way it handles music in general. What's New really just finds creative ways to explore and make interesting all aspects of the process, and move between them subtly and infrequently enough that it doesn't feel forced or thrown at you, but as a genuine exploration of what can be done with Scooby by people who care about it. (And while we're talking about music?!?!?!?! THE HAUNTED MYSTERY MACHINE EPISODE???????? 🤯😵🥰💘)
To me, What's New is just a really good show that is kind of seen as being "simple" (plan lol. Sorry I keep doing that but I can't help myself) or basic but really is much more creative and complicated than it looks when closely examined. It's a series that I think gets a lot of love while at the same time still not getting enough for everything it accomplished. Also it has some of my favorite Scooby castings out there. I mean, COME ON! Casey Kasem Shaggy at the same time as Grey Griffin Daphne? With Frank Welker Fred AND Scooby along with MINDY COHN (<3333333333333333333) Velma? Don't get me STARTED.
Anyways I just have SO much love for this series all the time. All the time. 24/7. Hope that answers your question on how I feel about it

I am here with the mans theories for s5! He did say during his presentation that it is a work in progress and it will for sure keep changing because the LA offer fucked everything up for him. Btw in case you were wondering, he ambushed me in the early morning right as I woke up. He was waiting by my door so when i opened it all i saw was him smiling at me, i swear he us losing his mind. Anyway the theories are (in no particular order): -‘IF Justin goes to LA, Brian goes with him. Or we get like a week time jump and they leave for LA together’ -‘Better yet, Justin doesn’t leave at all because i get its a big deal for his future BUT I personally hate it and my feelings matter more so…’ - ‘I don’t trust that Connor actor. What if he’s gonna be like Ethan or something? I will fucking die’ - ‘Brian will now for SURE say I love you. I’m thinking Blondie drops the la news and maybe Brian realizes how big his love is and how stupid he is so he tells him. Like maybe chases him in the airport or goes after him to LA cause thats less cringey and I know Bri would rather cut his leg off than chase someone through an airport’ - ‘So basically they move in together and Brian confesses his love for him and they live happily ever after’ - ‘ohhhh Brian is his date to the Rage premiere! That’s gonna be fun! I know he’s gonna be so proud of his sunshine’ - ‘i still want Jen and Brian being best friends episode! Like when they looked for his office but more. Also where the fuck is my girl Daphne? Imagine Daph and Bri talking shit about LA’ -‘you know what? Throw in Hunter as well. Give me uncle/nephew episode again’ - ‘okay so Brian asked him to move in. I WANT THEM DECORATING SHIT! or furniture shopping or some domestic shit like that. Or Brian comes home to bunch of art stuff everywhere! But he doesn’t get mad because he’s a big boy in love now’ - ‘i cant decide how he will tell him that he loves him. Maybe at a dinner or maybe at a diner, Blondie does something dumb and he says it while laughing or something OR what if when they’re having sex Bri goes “you know I love you, right?” Something cute like that and Blondie will be all excited like ‘oh took you long enough also likewise’’ - ‘i cant decide on the big finale. I love you cant be it since there’s others in the show too unfortunately so i guess they matter too. But it has to be something big and nice and sweet, to wrap it all up nicely with a bow, ya know? OHHH KINDA LIKE SEASON 3 FINALE! With all of them cute and happy and in love and carefree and living their best lives together and Brian and Justin are finally together happy since Bri is now a big boy in love not scared to admit it’ - ‘also what is going on with the cancer? Is it gone? Is it still there? He had that whole awakening cause of it so cancer has to still play a big role. I want more of that even tho it hurts me but I think that’s gonna really make Brian even more different in a good way.’ -‘you know what i want? Brian and Justin all happy and in love with Gus! And they bump into Brians mom HA! Show her how great he’s doing’ I’m not gonna lie, my heart kind of broke for him when he was reading me his list for what he thinks about s5. Because he was so excited when he talked about the happy ending. I’m talking big smiles and giving examples about how the ep could end with a camera looking through different windows and it’s Britin and Gus together or maybe theyre celebrating Christmas or a birthday and everyone is together all happy and Britin is kissing and it ends with Brian saying i love you to Justin. AND IT ACTUALLY PHYSICALLY HURT ME HEARING THAT AND KNOWING THE HORRIBLE TRUTH! i feel like a mother now wanting to protect her baby from the bad world. What have I done? He is going to be heartbroken the second he puts on s5.
Oh my god. Dear sweet anon, I am worried for your brother's well-being. He is making QAF into some christmas movie rom com where there's going to be a happy montage at the end and... well that's not how this is going to go. I don't know whether we warn him or whether that's unfair because none of us were warned. (No kidding, once a year my facebook memories remind me that I was VERY EXCITED to watch QAF S5.)
This is going to be a complete and utter emotional breakdown, I fear. Just remind him that it is accepted as canon (from CowLip) that the ending never meant to imply that Brian and Justin are broken up.
And that it is a good thing to care so much about something that it Makes You Feel Things. Even if those feelings at the time are Very Unpleasant. And that those Very Unpleasant Feelings build community in fandom. But, yeah, art that makes you feel... that's the whole point, isn't it? I honestly don't know that we would still have a qaf fandom to this day if the ending had been unambiguously happy.

I’m taking a note from some MK YouTubers and I’m just gonna make my own but for Nightwolf since I think I have shown that I have a huge love for the character for a long time. He wasn’t my favorite originally but even when I first got into mortal kombat he was at the back of my mind a lot of the time.
I will be ranking these from worst to best. These are all opinion based so please don’t hate me because I like one more then the other.
———————-🌑———————-
Alt costume for Nightwolf from deception and Armageddon
Tumblr media
I won’t lie this is one of the ugliest things I think I’ve ever seen. By god, it’s like Nightwolf went into a punk phase and said “YOU’RE NOT MY REAL ANCESTORS!” I’m aware that it is because he is corrupted but this is not what a corrupted Nightwolf should look like. It’s stupid.
———————-🌒———————-
Nightwolf from Defenders of the realm
Tumblr media
Defenders for the realms was a weird show to sell toys let’s be honest here. Though I think that this one is just god awful because it takes away what made Nightwolf look like a protector of Earthrealm by making him look younger in the show and also taking away his face paint for some reason. That’s not Nightwolf, that’s a dude with a wolf around him which also didn’t make sense. I like the fact that we have Kiba in MK11 but this one is a spirit animal helping protect the Matokan lands!
———————-🌓———————-
Nightwolf from Annihilation
Tumblr media
I’m not just putting it here because Annihilation was ass and he showed up for seconds to just be a wolf and tell Liu Kang “Yo, wanna be a dragon? Then be a dragon” then dips, but also because they did a lot of different changes from the original Mortal Kombat movie which made it great with different design choices but for this one it’s just… ya know, bland. There was an opening for change and they didn’t take it, but at least they added in the face paint.
———————-🌔———————-
Nightwolf MKX
Tumblr media
I know this is a weird spot for Nightwolf but at the same time I’m fine with it so shhh. Here it was strange personally because he just looked like his normal self from MK9 but ya know, nothing changed. That’s boring I’m sorry to say. With Liu Kang and Kitana they all got new looks and Armor but here, nothing, though I love the MK9 look so it’s here. I know it’s just an NPC but it’s my list and they also made Smoke and he looked cool as hell.
———————-🌕———————-
MK11 Devil Dog
Tumblr media
Now that’s how you do a revenant. With the red and different war paint on him. It’s great. Don’t get me wrong I don’t really like the revenants looks but here I really do like. With also his boots get spikes to then and so do his arm wraps.
———————-🌖———————-
Mortal Kombat 9 Alt costume
Tumblr media
Don’t get me wrong it’s a good costume and with the whole tribal look with the fact that he has a Wolf’s head ontop of him and all the wolf symbols around him but what confuses the hell out of me is… what is up with the silver? I really don’t get it. It’s good just confusing
———————-🌗———————-
Mortal Kombat Deception and Armageddon
Tumblr media
Personally I love this outfit and I hope to see it again soon. With the head wrap and the Armor wrist bands and the fact that his red shirt is put together by rope. I’m putting together Deception and Armageddon because the only difference is with a feather.
———————-🌘———————-
MK9 Nightwolf
Tumblr media
I love this look with the fact that he has a brown look and his regular native look which is the best if you ask me and his head having a wolf’a paw talisman on it and the necklace I love it though it gives too much of that moon. Example, with it there are a lot of talisman on it with his Armor wristbands having the cyan dots and an arm wrap with the cyan piece and just, it looks like a bunch of collected items though it could just be from his tribe saying “You are Nightwolf. Here is the stuff you need.”
———————-🌑———————-
Tribe’s Guardian
Tumblr media
This was a tough one for me because I do like the added flare to it with the muddy pants, the fringe battle boots, the rings, the symbols Jr’s all great. Though we have seen it a bunch of times now. I’m lumping this also with Bravest face because it’s nearly the same thing with little things changed out to be different and a shirt. Congrats Nightwolf now if you spill soup on yourself it won’t hurt as much, not really though!
———————-🌒———————-
Lone Wolf
Tumblr media
Now that’s what I call a new look! It brings in a whole new element to Nightwolf with the fact that he looks completely different. He is a warrior! Something to fight for others and earth realm! It makes him look like he is ready to fight for his life and his people and for earthrealm. With also the war paint dripping down his face it’s great! Though there can only be one number one
[C]———————🌓-———————-
Original Nightwolf
(Would post the pic but they won’t let me. Ironically he has exactly 11 appearances)
I have to give points to the fact that this is what brought in Nightwolf into this series. What made him so cool and special. He came in with Battle Fringe Boots. Which is just awesome if you ask me and also just such a stern face on the guy. To the point where it looks like he is willing to die for earth realm (ironic is it not?)
[C]———————-🌔———————-
[C]Hey if you made it all the way through I just wanted to say thanks. It took me an hour to make this whole thing and it was fun while making it. Having to go through it just to make sure I knew what I was doing was what I wanted it to be. Today was a bit of a long day but because I made a whole post about my one and only comfort character, it made it a lot better. Thank you for reading this.
[C]———————-🌕———————-

hi! my fyp on tiktok has recently been just full of nightwing content and im very interested!! ive never watched much, if any, dc content before.. can you help me figure out where i should get started? im mostly interested in nightwing but willing to watch anything. i gather its mostly animated shows/movies on hbo? thanks!!!
hello! same omg i LOVE nightwing, hes my lil guy. and i'm glad u wanna kno more! love talkin to ppl abt dc especially the bats 🥰 so this is gonna be long sorry in advance lmao
general rundown jus cos the media for dc is officially split into three parts mainly
unofficially (and no shade cos i have a dc tiktok), tiktoks not always character accurate representation. lotta ppl call it fanon, its like the fan ideas of how character are that arent actually accurate or factual. (i dont have a problem w fanon rly but its a whole thing)
officially, the dc animated universe ones (dcau) ones are vaguely connected so they have the same characterisation throughout for the most part. usually events happen differently from the comics even if the movie or show is based on a comic like justice league dark for example. the dcau's also different from the dc universe (dcu aka the live actions) but do the same thing.
and comics are the source for everything. for the most part.
all that to say nightwing might not be exactly how ur expecting but im sure you'll still love him regardless he's a loveable guy. even if u dont like him in the comics specifically but still the movies or smthn thats a okay imo, (personally altho i read a lot of comics films & shows r easier to digest)
for comics
wayne family adventures: it vaguely follows canon but its sweet and an easy read webcomic on webtoon. the first and second season have physical copies
but for the canon timeline here's a few good beginner nightwing reading list from twitter i recommend, from:
nightwingirah
brookstweetz
bombadleaker
for shows & film
he doesnt actually have any solos, its either hes with batman the titans or he's there as a feature. so the ones i remember and liked him in:
batman & robin (1997)
batman ninja
batman the animated series
batman (2004) - the tv show
lego batman
titans
teen titans
teen titans go
justice league vs teen titans
teen titans judas contract
young justice
the dark knight rises
thats abt it, i hope you like them! lmk what u think if u go thru them 🖤

Devoting Far Too Much Brainpower To The Magic In Aikatsu
Disclaimer: I have only seen Stars and On Parade, so this is going to be extremely Stars-centric. It’s basically a Stars lore post with some On Parade at the end. If you have anything from the other continuities to bring up, please do so. OGkatsu is on my watch list so when I finish it I will most likely either edit this post, reblog with more findings, or make a second post.
All right. So as we all know, Aikatsu isn’t 100% realistic. No, I’m not talking about Otome’s hairstyle or the fact that Elza is allowed to go wherever she wants without bodyguards when she’s a princess and presumably an only child. I’m talking about the magic.
The most obvious example, obviously, is the Aikatsu System, so I’m gonna cover that first, and then the sort of superpowers some of the girls appear to have.
All right. So as we all know, when these girls sing, the area around them is turned into an elaborate stage that fits with the song, and the audience is moved around to accommodate this stage.
At first, you would assume holograms, and there’s hints to this- but it CAN’T just be illusions.
If it was just holograms alone, explain how a stage that looks like this
Tumblr media
Can turn into this
Tumblr media
And have Mahiru go all the way to the other side without falling off the stage or walking on the audience.
Clearly, there’s gotta be something more than just illusions making you see things. The items on and around the stage have to be physically there, and the audience has to have actually been moved over to those viewing platforms, or she’s gonna be singing while standing on someone’s head.
And just in case you weren’t convinced yet that it wasn’t magic, in one episode of Stars, the power goes out during a performance and yet the backing music plays and the elaborate stage is there. It can’t be fancy technology or special effects. This is reality-bending magic.
Besides, the transformation thing has NO mundane explanation. When those cards appear on her, the clothes remain there after the performance, and there definitely was not a very long Rainbow Road behind that entrance right up against the wall before. Conclusion? The Aikatsu System either has a fully customizable pocket dimension that it transports people to for performances, or, it can reshape reality enough to completely transform a room and even make it bigger on the inside to the point of being able to set the performance outdoors and get rid of the roof and walls altogether even if they are still there to anyone not watching the performance.
Oh, and we can’t forget something else important about this system.
It might be ALIVE.
In season 2, the star wings are granted by the system. It chooses girls to give wings to, and later on, it chooses girls to give the Sun Dress to. Not to mention the Moon Dress. Really comes across as it having a mind of its own. Like it’s watching their shows, waiting for them to impress it enough to receive wings.
With the possibility of it being alive, this makes one wonder about the episode of On Parade with the goth girl wars movie. They said it was illusions using the system (although what kind of illusion can be solid enough for someone to ride on top of it? Unless they magically or invisible-ropely lifted her into the air, which I’m not going to rule out.) But the point is. If they used the Aikatsu System to create that movie, and if it truly is alive, that means there’s a way to communicate with it, which is also most likely how Hime found out about the Moon Dress. And we just. Never find out what that way is.
One more thing about the system before we move on to other things: Why is the alive magic so focused on girls singing and dancing? Is it doing this for its own entertainment? Or was it created by humans to make magic spectacles? Was it always alive or did it gain sentience somewhere along the lines? Where does the sci-fi end and the magic begin? Is the reason that the star wings’ appearance can’t be predicted that it decides to give wings to the new generation out of boredom?  Ok, let’s talk about the rainbow aura now. There is a rare ability some girls have that gives them a power-up, but tends to make them pass out afterwards and can destroy their ability to sing if they use it too much. Reiterate: Yume has magic rainbow powers.
We never find out their origin, but we know that people don’t choose to have them. In fact, I’m pretty sure it’s said somewhere that they’re chosen to have them, like with wings. Which raises the question of what kind of being would give girls superpowers that destroy them like that. Is it an intentional side effect, and if it isn’t intentional, then why does it keep bestowing these powers on these girls? Is Aikatsu implying that whatever gods may exist either don’t care about their people, are ignorant to the darker side of their world, or are powerless to change anything?
Ok, I’m gonna change the subject because I don’t want to turn into one of those people who dives really really deep into a kids show in order to prove that it’s secretly edgy. Yume and Hime have superpowers, let’s talk about card machines now.
In one episode, a dress that looks like it took eternity to make is put into a machine and disappears. A set of cards with that dress on it then comes out of the machine. I’m not even going to TRY to figure out how that works. It’s magic. They made a machine to cast a spell for them so they wouldn’t have to do it manually. Ah, urban fantasy.
Also, cards can be made without a pre-existing physical dress, as evidenced by the Dress Make, though this seems to have a tendency to allow less freedom.
Now, let’s get into individual characters and the magic several of them have going on.
First off, Lilie. Her very presence appears to summon cold wind containing snow. In other words, she has snow/ice magic- and she has some degree of control over it. In episode 98, Lilie does this
Tumblr media
In order to cool down Yuzu. She summons her ice magic and glows while doing so.
Depending on how much control Lilie has over this magic, it’s also possible that she is purposely making winter winds blow every time she enters an area for dramatic effect.
But anyways. This proves the existence of magic abilities outside the realm of singing. It’s unknown if Lilie was born with this ability or learned it, but either way, the existence of ice elementalists implies there might be other elementalists out there.
In addition to humans with magic abilities both on and off the stage, there is also a notable idol in Stars who is a humanoid fantasy being.
This idol is Aria Futaba. You’d probably assume they’re being figurative when they call her a nature fairy, until she conjures flowers out of thin air. Her singing has also been shown to bring dead plants back to life. Additionally, in her debut episode, she created an aurora.
Tumblr media
Glowing hands and everything. This girl is a legitimate magic nature fairy. It’s not even ambiguous. Fairies exist in Aikatsu.
I’m going to give brief mention to Yozora’s ability to tell what kind of person you are just by touching your skin, as if she can read your soul, and get into a standout example of magic I witnessed when watching Aikatsu On Parade.
During the Christmas episode, Sora waves her hand and magically makes another girl’s dress grow a giant ribbon, a more interesting skirt style, several layers of pink frills, and a matching hat.
First off, I want her to do that to my outfits. Second, there are spells of Make Your Outfit Cuter that exist in Aikatsu. So that’s how they make super elaborate Premium Rare dresses in the span of under a month while also juggling photoshoots and tv appearances and concerts and sleep.
At the end, there’s also the little ribbons Raki gives the other protagonists, which proceed to go invisible, reappear, magically send streams of light and glitter in the sky, and act as some means of letting them hear each other’s voices and communicate across dimensions. I’m not sure how aware Raki was of the nature of her magic ribbons. Of course, given that this is Saya’s sister we’re talking about, the communication aspect could be more of a sci-fi element, but what with everything else, it can’t be exclusively that.
When I mentioned seeing standout examples of magic while watching On Parade, you were probably expecting me to talk about the randomly appearing doors that are portals to other dimensions. And since this wouldn’t be an extremely long after-midnight-on-a-Tuesday post about the lore of a glorified video game ad for 7-year-olds with a focus on the urban fantasy aspects without talking about these portal doors, that is what I will do.
Raki’s sister, who has a marked tendency to remind you that for all this urban fantasy you can’t forget the sci-fi elements, is aware of the existence of multiple dimensions, and that the Aikatsu System exists in them all, if somewhat differently. And she wants to fuse several dimensions together into one. Kind of batshit when you think about it, yet an admirable goal at the same time.
And so doors begin magically appearing, and Raki’s first instinct is to open them. Instead of getting trapped in an endless hallway maze with Arcade Carpet Edward Scissorhands, she simply goes to another dimension. She continues to use this portal network to jump between dimensions until the dimensions are one. You have to wonder what kind of crazy door related rituals Saya was doing, what the ratio of sci-fi to magic was, and what she did to that Aikatsu Pass to make it glow and detect the portal doors.
We can’t forget that this wasn’t even the first crossover. Stars had a couple episodes devoted to crossovers with OGkatsu. What this means is that the portals created in the experiment are not the first ones. Did the OGkatsu gang just stumble across a portal that already existed, or did one of them find out how to make one? Really makes you wonder.
Anyways. This has been me typing for ages about the magic in Aikatsu Stars and On Parade. Expect to see more when I’m done watching OGkatsu.

First thoughts on the Interview with a Vampire series
It's going to be a long one, so get ready.
From the moment I heard about the details of this project, I was sceptical. After all, to change Louis from a late XVIII century plantation owner to a black man and the owner of brothel houses living in the early XIX century is quite a jump. However, we've seen bigger changes being done and sometimes not only would they not make the story worse, but even go as far as make it better (I find Forrest Gump to be a perfect example). So, how did it go here?
Well... I'm confused.
Which isn't a bad thing in itself! I'd say I enjoyed this first episode, but it certainly felt more like fanfic rather than an adaptation.
If you have read the book you know it has one significant feature: it's melancholic. Rice wrote it after she lost her daughter and each page is filled with incredible grief that is so characteristic of Louis's story. On the other hand, the second book - Vampire Lestat - while still similar in style, it's definitely a lot lighter. I strongly believe showrunners decided to combine those two books and that's why it seems the style is a bit confused at times. After all, how much grief can you put in and still feel genuine if you want your flamboyant Lestat to be Lestat, do Lestat things and steal the show?
Tumblr media
Because I don't think you can quite do it. Even the movie from 1994, despite being a very good adaptation, is significantly less painful than the book.
And they actually have Claudia being played by an incredible child actress!
Tumblr media
But let's talk about the series. I think they wanted this show to be connected to the book and have Lestat. I doubt Louis as Louis was their priority. Yes, of course, his family story is actually pretty similar to the book... but obviously they decided to add racism to his long list of things he can whine about (for the record, yes, I do think book Louis is rather whiny). While I do think it provides something new to the story (I also think Jacob Anderson is doing a very good job and is giving us something different from what Brad Pitt did), I don't think it improves the story. I love the 1910' aesthetic and jazz, but is it something I want from Interview with a Vampire? Not really. However, if you are able to fully separate it from the novel and the 1994 book and treat it as its own thing, I think you will enjoy it a lot.
Tumblr media
Ok, but I can't finish this post without talking about Lestat. I told my friend that this series can be shit, but if Lestat is done well, it's at least a 7/10. And you know what?
Of course, Lestat is amazing.
Tumblr media
Again, Sam Reid is giving us something different from Tom Cruise (this Lestat actually speaks French!). I like how they are taking elements from Vampire Lestat - tho, for now mostly in the form of Lestat talking about his family - and that this fabulous bloodsucker is as much of a dandy and asshole as I want him to be.
I mean, the scene of Louis' brother's funeral when Lestat straight up tells him "Nice coffin. Where did you buy it?" is kinda hilarious.
Reid has a very strong screen presence and he absolutely steals every shot. Not gonna lie, I want this show to go for another season purely to see him as a 1980's rockstar Lestat.
I think most people know how important the 1994 movie was for the LGBT+ community. I mean, clearly, gay (or bi) vampires are being played by 3 known actors? That's not something you see every day in the 90s'. A clear difference between the movie and this series is that they are a lot hornier. I don't think we've seen an on-screen kiss in 1994 (I don't think you even have them in the book). Louis doesn't want to give the reader juicy details - you need to wait for Vampire Lestat to read how everybody was Lestat's boyfriend.
This series is not subtle at all with the romantic tension.
So, would I recommend it? The first episode was pretty good. I expect to be disappointed by Claudia's story, tho. Overall, if you can easily separate this series from the original novel, I think you will enjoy it.

Pixelicious, 🤭 Do you have a favorite tag to use when posting your works? and 🦅 Do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants? for the moji ask game, please and thank you 💓💓💓
! @anisaanisa ! Oooh you picked two of my favorite from this list and answering the second one includes major spoilers sooooo the full answer is under the cut :)
🤭 Do you have a favorite tag to use when posting your works?
So my most common non-setting based tag (au/canon/etc) is "tumblr/based on a tumblr prompt" which makes me weirdly happy? I love answering prompts and I love feeling inspired by this community. I also love the idea of a fic being made specifically to make someone happy. Yes, it's public and it's for everyone, but sometimes in the big wide world it's just really fuckn nice to know someone thought about you and cared for a minute, right? So yay prompts and yay gift fics.
I also enjoy "you can't prove it's not canon" because those little in between fics are some of the most satisfying (in my not so humble opinion).
Do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants?
I vaguely outline, but not with any kind of structure like gets taught in creative writing courses. For "longer" fics aka more than 500 words, I usually make a "guidepost" for myself at the top of a fic document to remind myself of why I'm in this fic.
For example this was the top of the doc for Snoring:
Prompt: And A snored all night while B went slowly insane
Immediately after Sango gives birth to the twins, Miroku can't come with for an exorcism but an overly emotional Sango refuses to let Inuyasha go alone. So he brings shippo, who does surprisingly well in the fight. Rain forces them to stay in the village overnight (empty hut at the edge of the village). There Shippo’s snoring and snuggling makes Inuyasha realize just how attached the kit is to him and how much they both miss Kagome (who used to snuggle him every night).
Funny. Then grumpy. Then not really sad, but more a chance to overcome the sad with some acknowledgments. Fuck me this is gonna take some brain power.
Rounding it out:
Inuyasha has been avoiding Shippo because Shippo represents too many icky feelings aka his mixed feels on Kagome being gone. Yes MirSan are allowed to move on, but is Shippo? Is he?
Shippo is going to go to the fox academy thing but Inuyasha decides he’s going to talk him out of it because he doesnt want the kit to leave (will shippo be awake for this revelation? Who knows, certainly not me, the author.)
All the dad and found family feels.
and this was What's Eating You--which is even less formal..
The Plan: Kagome and Inuyasha bunker together at work. They only know each other passively through work, and are not friends but instead find the other annoying. When she has a breakdown thinking she’s gonna die and she has only ever had sex with one person, he jokingly shows her his dick to calm her down. But as the time ticks away and panic rises, they decide the best way to go out is with a bang.
all the oral sex because yes finally they are getting jiggy with it all clear sounds door opens Miroku - aka Inuyasha's friend and a member of the Cleaning Crew (they make the zombies go byebye) is like "oh, well, dont stop on my account. but ps its all clear so if you didnt use a condom now is the time to fix that because you're not gonna die. have fun kids"
"As he shut the door behind him, Kagome realized maybe being eaten by zombies wouldn't have been so bad after all"
Epilogue: maybe a mini scene that opens like a horror movie. there's screaming and shes disoriented and theres a useless body next to her and then she turns on the lamp and lets Inu Jr chow down on her breast while Inu snores like a bastard XD

Favorite books/t.v. shows/movies about zombies? 👀
Oh, a fun question! Also probably gonna be a bit of a long answer, but I feel like that's probably expected by now, so here goes :)
Definitely a The Walking Dead fan. I certainly don't pretend it's the highest-brow art ever, but I enjoy it nonetheless. I only started watching it last year or so, after most of the craze had died down, but I watched what was available pretty quickly once I got started.
I first came to know of Resident Evil through the films --- largely because that's what my family knew, and they hadn't played the video games --- so I liked them. (I know that's a bit contentious because they're nothing like the games, but I still haven't found the games affordably, so the films are my only point of reference. I'll play the games when I can, though, and my opinion might change.) The first one and the third one were my favorites, though I have a nostalgic tolerance for the rather-bad second one; Oded Fehr is just awesome, and he's only in numbers 2 and 3, so I take what I can get.
On a more humorous note: Zombieland (and the sequel, though I've seen the latter only once and the former many more times) is a personal favorite of mine. I don't know if the Evil Dead films/television shows count as "zombies", but a Google search includes them as such, so I guess I'll mention them; I have a fondness for Bruce Campbell, and I was surprised that the remake was as good as it was. (Same, btw, with the Cabin in the Woods: idk if it counts as a zombie film, but I love it to bits, so I'm mentioning it.) Dawn of the Dead/Land of the Dead are more films for which I liked the originals and the remakes. (The more modern Land of the Dead wasn't sublime, but a) I have a fondness for even bad horror movies and b) I liked Simon Baker in The Mentalist, and his LotD character was cool.)
If Heavy Metal counts as a zombie film --- there are zombies... ish --- then that's on the list. 28 Days Later is high on the list (and the sequel, though I remember it less well). If Slither counts, it's high, too. Shaun of the Dead is a more humorous example to be added. I Am Legend is one that I liked when I watched it but haven't seen recently enough to confirm one way or the other.
I haven't really read many zombie books, so I don't have any answers there; I think I read World War Z once, but I don't remember being too fond of it (in book or movie form). Then again, I was far younger when I both watched and read it, so my opinions may have changed/could have initially been swayed by the fact that I had still been watching it with my parents/siblings and they all hated it.
Side note: I've yet to find very much by way of fandom spaces for these media that fit my usual analysis-and-characterization-heavy style of participating --- especially true anent tWD stuff --- so I have many thoughts and nowhere to discuss them... Asks definitely welcome on this topic! (I say this knowing full-well that asks are pretty much always welcome, and it means close to nothing to say... but it bears mentioning anyway, I suppose.)
Thank you for the ask, and I hope the answer was decent! (I appreciate the emoji; it's my first, and it made me smile, so... Thank you :) ) I hope you're well!

Hey. This is gonna sound super strange, but I’m curious..
Is there any type of vulnerability in characters in fiction(whether it’s movies, series, books, manga, anime, etc) that resonates deeply with you? Like enough to make you emotional or even choked up?
With me it’s feelings of never being enough. Never quite being smart enough. Nice enough. Fun enough. Never fitting in enough. Never being pretty or unpretty enough. Never being seen as something besides the second choice always.
It doesn’t seem to matter how much I otherwise like the story that’s being told. If the main character struggle with this I tend to feel it deeply and it’s quick to make me very sad. Like i’ll never escape this. What’s usually only seen in teenagers, this intense insecurity and lack of self worth, is something I as a grown woman still have. It’s embarrassing to an extent even though I obviously know rationally it shouldn’t be for me. It’s okay. But I still feel inadequate yet again.
Sorry for the complicated ask. I’m just wondering honestly. I feel like the patterns that sticks out to us in fiction as individuals can be interesting. It can say a lot about that person.
I think for myself it's the same vulnerabilities that you've listed. Genuinely.
My Mad Fat Diary is a very good example of that. There's a great deal of real shit in that show that I kind of had to pause and take a minute to process. Like, a lot. My personal self worth has been an interesting journey and I know very well what you mean when these things we generally associate with teenagers carry into adulthood. Like you already sort of felt incomplete, and now that you're an adult still dealing with these things, it almost feels like that incompleteness has worsened.
It might even feel worse bc for the media we watch, they're able to manipulate things so that they get their happy ending. Which, obviously we know, isn't always the case.
To be honest I still struggle with these things too. I still have to talk myself into my self worth, if that makes sense. So pretty much everything you listed will definitely get me emotional. (My b for the late reply. 💜)
