I sign it from Gorgug. I forget how to be myself all the time.
I love the resolution of this that we got because I love Gorgug but also consider: any of these kids talking to each other even a little bit about their problems.
There’s just something about that moment when you realise that the decisions you make due to your own self-confidence issues impact the people you care about. Realising when you forget to be yourself, your friends who love you miss out on you too. And maybe you could even try to give yourself a break, for them. Idk man this season is going crazy and all i can do is draw pictures about it

*(Need to get all my thoughts on episode 17 out before I explode)*
AHHHHHH SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP THAT EPISODE WAS INSANE
THE FUCKING PORTER REVEAL I KNEW IT!!!! I am going insane
I am so in love with everything Emily Axford is doing, I was wary of Fig being a paladin at first but it is working out so well - but I am SCARED bc her conversation with Zara is giving me the feeling that this could be Figs last season since Emily already wanted to retire her at the beginning of JY.
Was SO not expecting Murphs roll to be the big roll of the episode (thought it was the fated Ally one) but am so pleasantly surprised bc the Ragh/Porter reveal is truly one of the best moments I’ve ever seen from Dimension 20.
The fucking heartbreak I felt when Oisins ping pong balls came up and started releasing spells - like that was such a cute moment when we all thought he was just so flustered by Adaine but NO he’s MEAN!!!!! Siobhan’s face killed me ☹️☹️
I usually have a hard time sort of fully absorbing the lore of a d20 season but this huge lore drop and how they kept going over it in a very succinct way was SO helpful for me I feel fully prepared for theses final few episodes AHHHHHH
I feel like it’s gonna be just fighting from now on - I wonder if there will be any more twists??
OMFG AND THE ART!!! CAIT MAY HAS BLESSED US WITH ALL THIS BEAUTIFUL ART!!!
Okokokok I am SICK!!! That was a crazy ep!!!!! I am so excited for the rest of the season!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Tag game! Tag nine people you would like to know better i was tagged by @wall-e-gorl! woah thank you vic <3
Last song: "Irina" by Emily Axford. since that's an instrumental, last song with lyrics was "Visions" by Sea Wolf, which i have normal feelings abt.
Favourite colour: yellow! this might be obvious. i love light/pastel yellows especially and like. sunny yellows.
Currently watching: right now in this moment i'm watching lord of the rings the fellowship of the ring for the first time bc my coworkers finally rioted and decided i needed to watch movies (i have a list of homework lol) i'm also watching d20: fantasy high junior year as it comes out! the anime season like... Just switched over so i don't have any that i'm actively watching rn but there are usually a handful (i need to catch up on dungeon meshi tho. i got behind and then detoured to read the manga and keep meaning to go back to the anime.)
Sweet/savory/spicy: sweet or savory! depends on mood. spice kills me tho...
Relationship status: i have a girlfriend!! hi ria!
Current obsession: naddpod. and specifically naddpod music. oops. maybe i can talk for five million years about it.
Last thing you googled: "i want to be a wall volume 3" bc i was trying to figure out the release date (it's soon!!!). it's such a good manga about an ace woman-- i would say she's aroace, the only term they Use is asexual but there's literally a line that's like "she doesn't want romance or sex for herself"-- and a gay man getting married. it's truly incredible i love the mc's relationship SO much.
no pressure tags (i think some of these are people's side blogs feel free to do it on your other blogs instead): @purplecladmerchant @theatricuddles @metamagic-adept @sideblogdotjpeg @one-little-nerd-stayed-home @kindleaf @crazyness-overpowers @damienthepious @dulcecatrina and you. the person reading this.

Yo!! Hello!!! I am like 90% sure I've seen you post about dimension 20 before!!
I just got a dropout subscription and I'm thriving but I am looking for advice for where to start/go with the dnd-verse on it? I'm assuming that the separate campaigns are relatively stand-alone but I would love an opinion (or just input on what the actual chronology is lmao)
hehe sleeper phrase discovered i'm honored you came to me :)
so the first thing to know which you probably already do is that there is a main returning cast for some seasons, and then some campaigns are a different group with an occasional different dm. the Intrepid Heroes are Lou Wilson, Zac Oyama, Brian Murphy, Ally Beardsley, Siobhan Thompson, and Emily Axford with Brennan Lee Mulligan dming, so they play as that exact group multiple times. There's usually one or two of them in a non-main-cast campaign, too, including Brennan sometimes as a player when somebody else is dming.
So! In terms of watch order! I recommend starting with Fantasy High because it's the original campaign and also fantastic. There are currently two seasons, Fantasy High and Fantasy High: Sophomore Year, and they are both masterpieces. We're also getting Junior Year this winter which is extremely exciting for me personally because I Love Fantasy High lol. Fantasy High is a great starting point especially if you're new to dnd/dnd actual play shows (which you may not be so feel free to disregard this bit of advice lol) because multiple players are learning how to play in the first season, so there's plenty of opportunity to learn with them. It's also generally pretty light-hearted and funny, though it doesn't sacrifice story for comedy which I love. If you don't know, the concept of Fantasy High is that these young teenagers live in a world where everywhere else is a stereotypical fantasy world but their country is like. Classic high school Americana. It's silly, the characters are great, the storylines are great and only get better in Sophomore Year, it's an all around great time and great intro to D20!
I went right from Fantasy High to Unsleeping City, which is also fantastic (you'll notice a recurring theme here, I love every campaign I've watched so far lol). If you like the lighter parts of Fantasy High but want a little bit more tension, Unsleeping City is perfect. It's set in modern-day New York with a twist: there's a magical underside to the city. Lots of fantastic commentary on modern life in the storytelling that slaps, I won't spoil but it slaps, and also really wonderful characters! Unsleeping City also has two seasons, so you get to see the characters grow and change a lot over two full plotlines which is very fun!
If you like the more serious side of things, my personal favorite D20 campaign is A Crown of Candy. I watched this third and it made me cry hard enough at work that my boss asked if I was okay lol. The set-up is simple: fantasy world made of food, but make it Game of Thrones. It's intense, the stakes are high from episode one, it's incredibly character driven and everybody plays really, really interesting characters, and because of how high-stakes it is, every payoff is just insane. We all talk about Ally's poetic nat 20s and believe me, they exist, but Mr. Lou Wilson (love of my life) has a nat 20 near the end of A Crown of Candy that genuinely made me feel so crazy when it happened that I had to take a walk lol. Cannot recommend it enough, it's devastating and perfect.
A Starstruck Odyssey is really good again if you like the lighter end of thing but still want stakes and tension! The world is based of comics that Brenna's mom wrote which is really sweet, and it's a very different vibe because is sci-fi instead of pure fantasy, which is honestly really fun. Some of the characters are up there on my favorites list, shoutout to Skipper and Sundry Sydney!
In terms of the campaigns that aren't Intrepid Heroes, the first one I listened to was Misfits and Magic, which is a Harry Potter spoof dmed by Abria Ayangar, who's fantastic, and featuring Brennan as an utterly unhinged in the best way player. There's also Mice and Murder, which is a super great mystery with anthropomorphic animals that was shot on zoom over the first lockdown (a few seasons were so don't be shocked by that lol). I'm a bit more than halfway through A Court of Fey and Flowers which has been great so far, and I'm super looking forward to getting to The Ravening War, which is a prequel to A Crown of Candy, and Mentoplis, as well as the current season, Burrow's End. I have to watch Neverafter first though, which is the most recent Intrepid Heroes campaign.
Anyway! To summarize!
My advice is to start with Fantasy High and Fantasy High: Sophomore Year, and then pick which elements you liked best to decide what you want next! All of the campaigns that aren't explicitly linked are completely standalone, like I'm not missing anything important from the one's I've watched by not having watched some of the others, so don't worry too much about chronology or anything like that! The only ones that need to be watched in a specific order are the two with two seasons already, which are Fantasy High and Unsleeping City, but those are labelled quite clearly with season titles! Also if it's easier to keep track of, Dropout has the campaigns sorted into their own shows on the site so you don't have to choose seasons of D20, you can just choose A Crown of Candy.
PLEASE update me as you watch! I love love love talking D20 lol it's one of my favorite shows like ever!!

who's your favorite intrepid hero (if you can choose lol)
i love them all for different reasons, but as someone who is playing a circle of spores druid in a dnd campaign currently and is up to So Many Shenanigans and causing my dm to facepalm way more than usual, i gotta say my girl Emily Axford (but honestly this answer could change tomorrow)
favorite non intrepid hero?
erika. geese with the stats of velociraptors. (and all her other shenanigans, but that one is most notable)
favorite pc from each intrepid hero
Emily: a tie between Fig and Chirp, both so amazing Zac: Pib!! a little guy!! Siobhan: Imelda Pulse was too iconic to not make the list Lou: a tie between Kingston and Squak (i love the acofaf cousins, okay?) Ally: Pete Conlan! My wild magic tea-loving bookshop boy! Murph: Riz! My aroace private investigator!!

at least one of Fig's parents perma-dies (and its probably Jawbone)
at least one of the bad kids starts using they/them pronouns (and lets be real its probably kristen)
any settings you would like to see d20 do?
would love to see a true pirate setting. I think they do so well with PoL and the ship battle in acoc, i would love to see a whole season of just that removed from everything else. also, classic fantasy would be fun. just chill, nothing else funky. kinda like DaDQ.
favorite setting they've done so far?
Starstruck definitely, or PoL. also, of course, ACOFAF.
favorite dm besides brennan?
aabria!!!
least favorite npc?
Dayne Blade. others are bad, but he's manipulative and a real asshole. fuck him.
a line that makes you emotional?
so so many. most recently tho, Conrad's speech to self loathing in Mentopolis.
a funny moment you love
Chungledown Bim is so funny every time. Also, when Gorgug thinks Jawbone is Tracker's dad, his voice on "nOoO. you're hER dad" is so funny, go rewatch it.

What race and class do the ROs + C play in DND? And what type of players are they?
ooo! I love DND! (it's kind of funny bc my first thought was that Kin would just say no and call everyone a loser but she'd be really into it once she's pulled in to play!) I mainly used my Tasha's Cauldron of Everything book for this btw!
Dylan──astral elf druid, circle of stars /monk, way of the astral self. Easy going player, engages well in the role playing and takes some notes, but not enough to be classed as the note taker and they're not as in to the acting as other can be! They pull off some of the wildest plans though!
Shay──firbolg cleric, death domain and grave domain. Dice hoarder!! He has a little ritual to do before each session to grant him (and his dice) good luck! He has a dice jail lmao.
Kinsley──half water genasi half human warlock, the fathomless /sorcerer, aberrant mind. She gets really into the acting part of it, she's really good at the emotional beats!!
J──glasya tiefling rogue, phantom (legacy of malbolge). Rule pusher, they read all the books and play so chaotically it feels like it shouldn't be allowed, but it always is! (think dimension 20s emily axford!)
Theo──halfling bard, college of creation. A forever bard, they try to come up with so many different ways to be a bard but they're always a bard lmao. The actual note taker, always have at least one notebook open during a session! Can and will track everyone's backgrounds and secrets!!
C──warforged ranger, fey wanderer. Usually a DM so they get really excited when they get to be a player! They're really good at character voices and always brings some chaos to the table. They have specific dice sets for each of their characters.
doing this I legit could create a whole ass campaign for them and flesh out all their characters, no joke, I have some names in mind already!

It was a good first episode. There's always some growing pains before they lock down the dynamic, but this was a solid introduction to what's coming down the pipeline. Murph and Emily successfully broke my heart the most. One's marriage is crumbling and the other's just a really traumatized child. Lou and Ally character's are pretty great and seem to have the most plot going on ATM. That voice Lou's doing is such a choice. Zac and Siobhan need more time before we can fully sink our teeth in. PIB is entertaining, but that's all we got so far. And while I'm desperately trying to block out Siobhan's intro, beyond the stressful horror, Rosamund didn't give us a lot character wise. Looking forward to getting stressed out by the rest of the season.
I was a big fan of this first episode! There was a lot of interesting stuff intro'd with all the new PCs (and I really got a sense of like...Once Upon a Time but competent lol). I already went through my thoughts a bit in the recap for the week but here are some more casual thoughts on everyone.
(1) Rosamund: Roz seems to have retained a lot of her princess niceties and demeanor which is honestly impressive considering her entire Situation. I'm wondering if this is going to be a Ruby style arc where she turns jaded eventually or if she's just going be Like This the whole time. A sunshine-y character in a crapsack world is always an interesting contrast. Also, we kind of started and ended with her since Pinocchio was warned that someone was coming for her. I'm curious if the fairy who cursed her is the same fairy that Pinocchio met.
(2) Ger: Brennan does this really cool thing where the end of the world is happening but you're like, "Oh no! This character cheated on this other character!" The human drama stuff feels just as weighty and often more weighty than the life or death stuff. That's how I feel about Ger's whole situation. He's really a dude in need of some serious self-reflection and I'm charmed by how pathetic he is. The issues he's having with his wife are so grounded in reality, even though they involve conversations that start, "Remember who we started dating when I was a frog?" Can't wait to see more of him--and hopefully Elodie at some point too. Where is she Brennan???
(3) Tim: Once again, everything with the Gander is totally messed up. I really hate the idea of accidentally stumbling into a kind of eldritch pact. You're right that there's a very clear plot hook with him and his mission with the book. From the way it was framed, it almost seems like the book has the "correct" or at least more wholesome versions of the tales in it somehow. Or is a gateway to where those versions exist? Because Brennan said it was their town but without the flooding and Jack looked like how he "was meant to be" or something like that. A lot to think about.
(Sidenote: Me and my friend were joking about whether the bad guy this season was going to be capitalism, or the church and my halfway joking answer is capitalism in the form of some version of the Disney Corporation lol.)
(4) Puss: I don't have a lot to say about Puss that I haven't already said in my recap but I love Zac putting his all into his cat mannerisms and I really love this grounded look at what would actually happen after the Puss in Boots story. Looking forward to getting more info.
(5) Red: Yikesssssssssssssssssssss. Emily just went for the jugular right away, huh? As usual, no notes Ms. Axford. I think it's super cool they mixed the Red story and the Big Bad Wolf story. I wonder if/when we're going to get details on how it went down with her grandma because we never got that. I feel like Emily might steal the emotional killshot crown from Siobhan for me this season.
(6) Pinocchio: OK first of all, no one can say Lou doesn't commit to the bit. Second of all, as I said in my recap and at the top in Roz's section, there's clearly something afoot here. Why does Pinocchio’s stepmom want Roz kept safe? And who even is she? My pet theory (based on very little info to be fair) is that she's Cinderella herself somehow but she could very easily be lots of other people (one of the stepsisters is a guess I didn't mention in my recap). Clearly, we're missing a ton of puzzle pieces here so I'm eager to get more. Also, I’m gonna be so mad when Lou is having a super emotional scene and he’s talking Like That. You monster.
One last thing: I'm curious about the timeline here. Since Roz has been asleep for 100 years it seems, how does that slot in with everything else? How long has this plan involving her been in motion. If Sleeping Beauty happened 100 years ago, when did—for instance--the Cinderella story happen (if it happened)?
OK, that’s what I got. Looking forward to the next ep on Wed!

Casting My Opinions Into The Void: d20′s Neverafter ep 1+2
this is the first d20 campaign im going to be following live and i am excited enough to do a lil post each week or so about it. mostly bc recycling and adapting and retelling and retranslating old stories that “everyone knows” is my whole shit. like i got a degree in the study of ancient greek and roman civilization (classics). my whole thing is reading old myths and plays that “everyone knows” how they go and seeing what each author/translator brings to the table.
anyway i watched episodes 1 n 2 and i am excited and my observations are below
(like if you were really into the Sisters Grimm series as a kid and are similarly excited for this lol the modernized fairytale characters in that series are literally called “Everafters” and its because it’s really good shorthand for the audience. i see you brennan i see you)
normally ppl who do the whole ‘dark/horror/thriller fairytale’ thing fuck it up bc they think it’s about the shock value, or about seeing how nasty you can get with it, so I usually avoid them, but after bingewatching a kadrillion d20 campaigns, I trust brennan to do it right. you have to find the core value/crux of what is horrifying about the story and tease it out, and play with the symbolism and icons of the original story to reflect that. and brennan fuckin delivered.
ep 1
folks, give a hand to the people who put detailed yet non-spoilery content warnings in the description. tbh dropout shows are setting the standard for sensitivity and inclusion in media. it’s so lovely to see a show w content warnings or pronouns put up onscreen and it just not be addressed. i am forever spoiled for any other kind of media tbh
at some point in the past, brennan found out he could make a really good realistic choking/gagging noise, and he has used it in every campaign since.
i appreciate the ‘scare off the meek early’ approach of it all.
th. the briars. the concept. the dead princes - UGH good backstory yall
i very much like the idea of becoming a ranger out of necessity, and because plants obey you on account of that whole feeding-on-your-blood thing
puss in boots using ‘pib’ as a nickname instead. of ‘puss’ or ‘boots’ - inspired
also zac is using his ‘smart little shit’ voice like he did w lapin and i am v excited.
look ill say it - the little red hen did nothing wrong and thats on that. i read that one when i was very little, it was on electric company or sesame st or between the lions, and i’ve always liked it.
so......anyone see how mother goose’s husband has the last name hubbard? like old mother hubbard lol
also there really is a Jack in so many stories, i’m glad we’re addressing this. little shit gets up to so much trouble
it feels like I have seen so many tired rewritings of little red riding hood, even though I can’t think of any off the top of my head. it’s usually a sort of surface-deep ‘girl power!’ situation. i’ve never seen one like this. i LOVE it. it was terrifying. the fact that we all just sort of accept ‘barbarian’ as a normal dnd class is kind of wild tbh, i like exploring that rage and its source.
Ep 2
saying the actual nursery rhyme in the context of being the nursery rhyme is so powerful. i fully didn’t understand what was happening to nat king cole (v powerful) until he was gone.
also, herr drosselmeyer - fantastic get. you have to talk about the sugar plum fairy at some point and they already went in hard on her in acoc so i love that they were like you know what, it’s weird uncle time.
(context: herr drosselmeyer is clara’s eccentric uncle with a bunch of automatons and he gives her the nutcracker)
also every production ive seen has his drip immaculate.
Tumblr media
my gender is this man’s cloak
Murph is the fucking ball again
“Please tell me how you’re a monster too so I don’t feel so alone” - Jesus Christ Emily Axford
Almost getting distracted by a bird instead of picking up v obvious plot hooks: pt 2
cinderella.......dude
Brennan really looked at K’s finale scene from mismag and went “how DID the mice get lithium?”
The POV of the mice - simplifying it makes it sound ridiculous, but if you really dig into the idea of the mice as sentient beings it’s horrifying.
Dude the symbolism…stepmother eating her kids bc they were always either a tool or an obstacle to her, of course they would be a sacrifice to her hunger for power.
i’ve always liked endings that have the stepsisters reconciling w cinderella bc in the end they were also victims of abuse and it wasn’t the same or the same degree of abuse as cinderella but they were still constantly on thin ice
can you tell that i rewatched d20 live recently and sobbed at adaine and aelwyn’s ending?
Cinderella stabbing the fairy godmother with the broken heel of the shoe that symbolizes both the ending she was meant for and the life that she was forced into. Turning that into glass armor. dude.
The pumpkin carriage rotting bc the fairy godmother is trying to make the happily ever after stay exactly how it is forever but nature decays and time passes and she can’t acknowledge that without realizing both that her role is in the story is over and not only does cinderella not need her anymore, cinderella doesn’t want her anymore, and maybe never wanted her in the first place.
When puss in boots was asked what he wanted in life and he just said ‘to be comfortable’ #relatable like I know all this is gonna end with him realizing the value of love and friendship over material goods and I 100% agree with that but i feel like this goal or some variation of it are v common today and not often addressed in stories like this
Pinocchio swearing - 10/10. Also how the fuck is Lou doing a Pinocchio voice that perfectly straddles the line between hilarious and annoying. It’s ridiculous enough to always be funny, but sustainable and varied enough that it doesn’t grate on you.
i think we’re getting into “all the princesses in all the stories are all sisters” territory and i for one am THRILLED
"mirror, mirror.......leaned up against the wall”
we learn in this adventuring party that the OG concept for lou’s pinocchio is that he snapped off his nose so he would be able to lie, which is AMAZING. i fully did not put that together.
i am v excited for this battle, and v terrified.

The Slytherin Boys playing D&D Headcanons
This might have just been an excuse to make some new d&d characters (I also made full character sheets for each of them, if anyone's interested in those hit me up)
[also a big thanks to @finalgirllx for the Matty, Enzo and Blaise pics, I love youu]
Tumblr media
Mattheo;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
♢ Mattheo wouldn't be into the idea of playing D&D at first, thinking it's going to be boring and not interested in learning all the rules and how to play because it looks difficult. But once he actually plays the game he get's super into it and into his character, excelling at the roleplaying part of the game and loving how he can basically try to do anything he can think of.
♢ I think he would play a tiefling rogue. Tieflings are often greeted with stares and whispers and usually met with distrust in every eye. This is something he can relate to having to carry the burden of his last name. He would also think they just generally look cool and edgy. The same goes for his choice of class. Not only does he think rogues are the coolest class to play, he likes the aspect of being sneaky and also the fact that the class devotes a lot of effort to mastering a variety of skill, not just their combat abilities.
♢ He'd probably choose his rogue's expertise to be stealth and deception and at level two I think he'd choose the assasin archetype. He'd wield dual daggers and choose the criminal background with skill proficiencies in acrobatics and intimidation.
♢ For his character's name I think he'd either go the funny way and throw a pun in there or it would be a super edgy name.
♢ He'd get into the roleplay really hard, getting super into character. Whenever a new NPC is introduced he will either flirt with them or instantly want to kill them. No one knows what criteria he uses to choose which one. Mattheo would become the chaotic problem player of the group, making it his goal to make the DM sweat and see how much bullshit he can get away with (Emily Axford style but with actual malicious intent).
Tumblr media
Enzo;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
♢ Enzo would probably love of playing D&D right away, especially being able to become this new character and to basically be someone else for the duration of the game. But I think he'd have some trouble with longer fight scenes or moments where the party will have to figure out a puzzle or riddle. Whenever he's not actively in the action and has to wait for his turn, he'd have trouble paying attention and his mind would drift off.
♢ I think he'd keep his character simple, choosing to play a human ranger (or maybe a fighter), wanting to play something with little to none spellcasting. I imagine him to play a Robin Hood coded character, someone who feels at home in the wild and excells in hunting.
♢ He'd choose animal handling, nature and survival as his ranger proficiencies with beasts as his favoured enemy and the forest as his favoured terrain. At second level he'd choose archery as his fighting style and at third level he'd take beast master as his ranger archetype, gaining an animal companion. He'd take the outlander background with acrobatics as his skill proficiency and the pan flute as his instrument.
♢ For his beast companion I think he'd either choose a wolf or a black bear (or maybe a hawk that perches on his shoulder). He'd get unhealthily attached to his companion and would probably actually cry if it died in game.
♢ I also believe he would quickly become a dice goblin and have more fun getting fun new dice than actually playing the game. He'd never play with one full set but rather show up with a bunch of colourful pretty non-matching ones.
Tumblr media
Blaise;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
♢ Blaise, I think, would fall in love with the game and turn into the dungeon master real quick. He'd get lost in the worldbuilding, loving building his own world and creating his story, and also the fact that as the dm, he gets to play an abundance of different characters in form of his NPC's.
♢ I imagine him to be kind of a hardass dm, a real stickler for the rules who will try his hardest to keep his players in line and on track for the story. He'd always be super prepared, having the menace himself - Mattheo - at his table. Blaise would show up with a full binder of notes to every session, making sure to be prepared for every single thing Mattheo decides to throw at him.
♢ He'd be really good at thinking off puzzles and traps for the players but also at creating full-fledged characters, villains you can really feel for, making it difficult for his players to choose sides and make decisions at times.
♢ As a player, I think he would choose to play as a paladin or a cleric. He'd play a character with a strong set of morals that he will life by under any circumstances. Being the mom friend of his friend group, I think cleric would fit him really well as he'd act as the healer of the group, trying to keep his companions in line.
♢ He'd be a very perceptive player, always asking to investigate every single object in the room, calling for insight checks for every NPC they meet and overall just trying his hardest not to miss a single thing the DM has thought of.
Tumblr media
Theo;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
♢ Theo probably, much like Mattheo, wasn't on board right away. I believe he would be the one to take it the least serious and just have fun with his character creation and be along for the ride.
♢ I imagine he'd think it would be hilarious to be a super beefed up little guy, so I think he'd be playing a gnome barbarian. There wouldn't be much more thought behind this choice other than being tiny but muscled up.
♢ His class proficiencies would the intimidation and athletics and at third level Theo would choose the primal path of the berserker, wanting his little dude to take the path of untrammeled fury, slick with blood. His character would love the thrill of battle, heedless of his own health or well-being. I think he would go with the gladiator background, someone who is as much an entertainer as any minstrel or circus performer, trained to make the arts of combat into a spectacle the crowd can enjoy.
♢ Once he actually gets into the game and takes it more seriously though, I think his class of choice would be artificer, a master of invention who uses is ingenuity and magic to unlock extraordinary capabilities in objects. Someone who sees magic as a complex system, waiting to be decoded and harnessed in their spells and inventions.
♢ Theo wouldn't be someone who is a menace on his own during the game, but whenever Mattheo proposes a chaotic idea he's right there with him, making Blaise slowly regret ever starting DM'img in the first place.
Tumblr media
Draco;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
♢ Draco would, of course, choose to play a elf wizard. His character would so clearly be a self-insert but the guy knows who he wants to be, even in this imaginary world, and it's himself. He probably wouldn't enjoy the role-playing side of the game as much but would really excell at strategizing and using everything he has at his disposal.
♢ His character would be a high elf, a race of magical people of otherworldly grace, specifically one of the sun elves of the Forgotten Realms, who are known to be haughty and reclusive, believing themselves to be superior to non-elves and even other elves.
♢ I believe he might have had a bit of a hard time choosing between playing a sorcerer or a wizard, the description of a sorcerer, with their magic being passed down via bloodline, being far more fitting to how wizards work in his world. But I think he'd end up going with the wizard class, the students of the arcane who spend their whole lifes to the study of magic.
♢ He'd choose arcana and history as his class proficiencies and at second level he would choose the school of evocation as his arcane tradition, focussing his study in magic that creates powerful elemental effects. He'd go with the noble background, his character being someone who understands wealth, power, and privilege.
♢ Draco would probably complain about how wizards word in D&D the whole time, struggling to understand why he can only cast a certain number of spells and being mad that he can't just learn whatever spells he wants to have at any time and has to wait until he gains more levels.
♢ I also think he would be a very supersitious player. He'd be someone who "rolls out his ones" before every session, only uses one special die for important rolls and leaves his dice out under the full moon every month.

a collection of my dnd hot takes because i’m bored and procrastinating studying chemistry:
you should add your constitution modifier to death saving throws
the poisoned condition should give disadvantage on death saving throws
tasha’s cauldron of everything is The Best Sourcebook and if you talk shit about it within a ten mile radius of me i’ll appear magically and cast blade of disasters on you
all the wizard subclasses that aren’t from the phb are dumb because wizards had a good theme going with the schools of magic specialism thing
order of scribes gets some rights because it’s from tasha’s though, but i do think it should be part of the pact of the tome pact boon for warlocks
bladesinger should be a bard subclass if you disagree pls block me yes i’m being serious you just have vibes i don’t want in my life
i actually liked the super complicated combat encounters from 4e - it was a good strategy game
gelatinous cube my beloved (not really a hot take but Important To Note)
DMing isn’t as hard as people make it out to be, it just takes a long time
more people should DM so that i can play as my various bugbear PCs
bugbears should have four arms and antennae. basically they look like alien!stitch from lilo and stitch but massive. why are they called BUGbears if they aren’t somewhat bug-like??
no more dwarves/elves/etc. that just like humans but short/thin/whatever. i want to see some real Creatures. some truly fucked up little guys.
if you main as a tiefling sorcerer i just want you to know that no one cares as much as you think they do. also you’re not the main character.
if you main as a Ranger i just want you to know that ily i would die for u u deserve the world
on that note: rangers get way too much shit that should also be applied to a lot of other classes and i think they’re cool >:(
people who main as human fighters are actually some of the most creative people i’ve ever met idk why people think they’re boring their characters usually have super interesting motivations and backstories
the best thing you can do for your players as their DM is provide them with situations to use their class features in a way that gives them the upper hand
the best thing you can do for your DM as a player is communicate what you like and don’t like in a game
sometimes parties break apart because the members just have different ways of playing and no one is the bad guy in that situation, you just weren’t suited to each other
there are two kinds of rules lawyers and one kind is the best people you’ll ever meet and the other kind deserve to rot in hell
ochre jellies should be called Big Yellow Boyz (the z is the most important part)
charisma-based spellcaster mains,,, you’re so cool but i don’t trust you in the slightest
wisdom-based spellcaster mains,,, pls have a self-care day within the next day i promise u u deserve it
intelligence-based spellcaster mains,,, i’d recommend seeking psychiatric assistance at your earliest convenience
martial mains you have my heart do actually be proud of your math skills
rogue mains are excluded ily but you are also so unbearable
literally nothing i’ve said applies to emily axford ever ily ms axford please have a lovely day :)

Hey, actually, maybe remember that Murph doesn’t like Cody.
And I’m not saying this to be rude, I personally love Cody as a character and he threads the needle so perfectly as annoying in game but not intolerable as a person to be around at the table. Murph is a genius to be able to pull that off as wonderfully as he does and I’m not trying to bring him down. But, with that, I see a lot of people who love Cody so much that they in some ways try to emulate him? And I remember very recently at the end of A Crown of Candy that there were a lot of bad, player-blaming conversations taking place about Siobhan Thompson and Emily Axford, and that they often got hate on twitter, on here, on Instagram, on everywhere for making hard choices in character in a fantasy game about food people.
So, please, god, remember that when you discuss Cody. And be mindful of how little Cody hate you have been seeing.
Cody consistently makes choices that are selfish, often party-sabotaging, and sometimes rude, that do align with Murph’s brilliantly crafted one-shot character, and gets little to no flak about it from the community because he’s a man  he can be extremely funny, and we usually are able to brush it off with a “ah, yknow, Cody’s a piece of shit, what are you gonna do”. And I honestly do think that it is sometimes a “yeah he’s a piece of shit” moment, but that doesn’t mean that his choices are always good.
Cody makes choices in the realm and the underlying social norm of toxic, violent masculinity given life through his additional trait of the perception of himself as an outcast. He makes choices because he acts on impulse, and while he does align himself with Kingston and the other characters in his shared enemy of Amazon Gladiator, he is overall short-sighted and not someone to idolize.
Cody is someone who is trying to get better. At least a little bit.
So, for that reason, please be cognizant of your reactions to male characters doing selfish actions the same way you’re cognizant of female or nonbinary characters doing those same actions. Think about how Murph doesn’t like Cody, and, while you can like him, you shouldn’t be Cody. That’s all.

Looking at Fia's multiclass, do you think she'll have ways of enhancing her melee abilities over time? Or would it be better for her to focus more on damaging spells as enemies start becoming bulkier at later levels? I'm new to the game, and this seems like a very unusual multiclass, and I guess I don't know how much mileage players are usually able to get out of early melee abilities once they're deeper in the game?
So, while I do not purport to know anything Emily Axford may do, here’s what I’ve got:
Fia’s build is a highly specific subclass, but not that unusual a multiclass - she’s a cleric/wizard, which we saw in the Bahumia campaign with recurring guest character Tonathan, if you listened to that. She has the spell slots of a full casting class, although the spells she can choose are both a little more diverse (she has access to 1st level cleric spells) and set back by a level in wizard (she’s currently a L3 character with 2nd level spell slots, but she can only learn/prep first level wizard spells or cleric spells because she’s only a L2 wizard).
Her melee comes from her clerical subclass, the war domain, which grants her proficiency with martial weapons and heavy armor, as well as the ability to make a weapon attack as a bonus action if she attacks with her action, for a number of times equal to her wisdom modifier.
My guess is she’ll focus more on spells as she progresses. At L2 you have 3 spells total per day (4, if she gets a short rest and can use arcane recovery), so if she has to fight more than one enemy in a day, she’s probably going to have to either resort to cantrips, or take out a weapon. She also has more spells than Zirk (who has two, plus some infusions and cantrips) which means she probably has to save her spells for healing, to an extent. At low levels, a lot of spell casters, and especially full support casters, have to rely on either weapons or cantrips, and as a war priest cleric her weapons are probably more effective than her cantrips.
This will change pretty quickly. Wizards get access to a huge number of damage spells of various ranges/damage types, and they get full caster spell slots, which get added very quickly at low levels, and she’ll be able to use those. There will be times when using her sword is useful, and if she hits with the sword she may as well use her extra bonus action attack, but a lot of the time she’ll be able to do more damage with her spells. She’ll also be useful for some things that only arcane casters get, like counterspell. Since they have a full melee fighter in Henry, it will likely be more advantageous for her to focus on spellcasting.
The war priest cleric gets to make their attacks more likely to hit at L2 with channel divinity and she may take that (a second level in cleric is mechanically smart in this setting as well for turn undead), but beyond that they don’t get much in the way of melee enhancements inherent to the class.
There are some casting classes that focus specifically on melee. War Domain cleric is sort of one, although it’s got some limitations; valor or swords bards, or pact of the blade (and especially hexblade) warlocks are much stronger spellcaster/melee fighter mixes that would add much more progression. I’m not discounting the possibility Emily will do something to make Fia even more melee-capable, but also, Emily is very familiar with hexblade and has seen Murph play a swords bard and I think if she wanted to be more heavily melee she’d have done so.

Oooh, definitely tell us about your character! Race/class/background/basic concept?
OOOOOOOH boy you definitely just cracked open a can of rambles that i cannot close, once i get going on her i don’t know how to stop and this will be a ramblier continuation of the last question
race: air genasi class: monk (way of the shadow) name: fog windchime (started as a joke, but stuck)
so as previously mentioned she’s an air genasi way of the shadow monk. this is my first ever campaign i’ve played but i’ve been watching/reading/studying dnd things for so long i knew monk was the first class i wanted to play. and with a genasi idk it was something i rarely saw played, it’s always the usual elves and humans and whatnot and that’s fine but i wanted something a bit out there and air genasi combined with a class like monk where air and stealth and being light on your feet is literally a number one thing you want just seemed like a no brainer? (also since i idolize emily axford and dimension 20′s unsleeping city is my favorite dnd campaign i’ve ever watched i love sofia bicicleta, way of the drunken master monk, though i couldn’t play that type of monk personally, not after watching emily play it so flawlessly) and of course marisha playing beau was a huge inspiration for my character as well
she has a very very cliche background of course, i mean i think starter characters usually do? fog came from a place called the leshem isles where she lived among a clan of all types of genasi; it was basically avatar.... but she was a rare air genasi and trained very hard to be the best. she had her little brother and her father as her only blood family (though she lived among a clan that was tight no matter what element/race they were in the genasi race) but because the young royal princes saw the clan as a cult and acted out of fear (and flexing their shitty little royal power) they marched into the village and killed everyone (fog was away at the monastery which is on a private tucked away isle that’s almost impossible to get to if you’re not adept in training) so fog lives with a lot of survival guilt and aching from missing her brother (who was her best friend and her everything really, just truly her brother was the most important person to her) and her father. so everything she does in life she does holding onto the memory of them and trying to make up for being away when they all died
she refuses to lose another family and her new adventuring party is her family and she has vowed to do whatever it takes to protect them, she will even sacrifice herself if it means they survive. without hesitation she will throw herself into the fire to save them. that’s her basic concept and what has stuck as we’ve played, different parts of her personality has changed little bits (like she has no qualms about stealing now and being more fighty than booky) but self sacrificing has always been her basic concept that has not and will not change

**spoilers for sophomores and stagecraft the NYC Fantasy High Live Show**
I never actually got an ask explicitly asking for this recap so I didn’t do one because I’ve been super busy but I wanted to do a quick post on it before I go fully in The Unsleeping City mode. This is all off the top of my head.
I know we kinda knew the gang went back to school after S1 because of the little epilogue they had but that's still so wild. Imagine getting arrested and slaying a dragon and almost dying (and *actually* dying in some cases) and then having to go back and be a Sophomore with a bunch of kids who, as far as we know, have little to no practical experience (except the 7 Maidens who kick ass and not only slayed a dragon but did it for no reason except they felt like it, which is metal as hell).
Sidenote: I was gonna say "a bunch of kids who might as well go to Mumple," and as I was considering it, I realized that it's never actually explained what exactly that school's deal is. But it's such an unpleasantly named school that you're immediately like, "No thanks. Hard pass."
IDK if BDG watched the full FH season before he played or if Brennan just briefed him really well but he matched the tone and the setting from the first word out of his mouth. Him going up to the gang and being like, “You’ve done murder, right?” was just like an instant hall of fame line for me.
And all the regular cast slipped right back into their roles so well. They may not have remembered all of their spells and attacks but they remembered all the character stuff 100%
Possibly my fave line of the night was when Aguefort bamfed out of the room and Siobahn did a little leaning on the fourth wall, “He just did a teleport spell. The rest was flavor.” It was so smooth.
My headcanon of Adaine’s life being mildly inconvenienced by random visions when she’s trying to, like, have her damn breakfast is validated.
Oh, the other great Adaine line in this ep was when Falinel was trying to get her back and was like, “I get that you’re a teenager,” and she was like, “Do you?”
Also, I think it’s funny that Brennan didn’t expect Adaine to use the identification spell, even though the whole story hinges on the the gang fighting a monster using a powerful magical item that none of them recognize.
“Don’t Emily Axford me on the live show.” She’s a verb. I love her so much.
Brennan explains that Fig and Riz are touring and “in deep cover” respectively and, hilariously, no one is very curious about the second thing at all. It’s like, “Same shit as usual.”
So Kristen’s highlights. Because I think doing this person is easiest for my memory.
Kristen is having ANOTHER crisis of faith and, this time, her tentative solution is to change Yes! to Yes? Which doesn’t help at all and arguably makes things worse because now her spirit guardians are a bunch of annoying philosophy majors (because Brennan loves dunking on himself as much as I love dunking on him).
Tracker MVP Line: I feel like if you don’t want to join a cult, Crossfit is a bad call.
Kristen playing the gay card to get Adaine to walk into her room (“Come in and be an ally. Are you an ally?”) and then Ally announcing that she and Tracker are both naked has equivalent energy to that scene in Critical Role where Percy knocks on Vex’s door and Laura gleefully announces that she opens the door buck naked.
Gorgug is the most naive of the Bad Kids and also most likely has the most comprehensive knowledge of sex stuff which is hilarious to me. The duality of man.
Toss-up favorite Gorgug moments were his constant, “He’s doing it!” to Hargis’s awful acting and him grabbing the wig from Iris and turning into a cloud of gnats wearing tiny wigs (which Brennan allowed at the audiences).  That second thing was such an off the wall bonkers choice. That was like an Emily choice.
Oh, there was a moment when he got hit by a charm ray and everyone went, “Awwww” and then Zac went, “I’m immune,” and everyone went bonkers. I cannot stress how wild the energy in the room was.
Also, during Gorgug’s intro when his parents are like, “We’re just super happy you haven’t died and gone to hell yet so far.”
Fabian’s whole conversation with Cathilda about his mom attempting to use the kitchen was gold.
Likewise, the whole interaction between him and Gilear was AMAZING. Fabian and I had the exact same reaction to hearing his engine was full of bees.
Sidenote, I love that he hates that Gilear is dating his mom and has zero self awareness that he’s doing the exact same thing with Adaine’s sister.
Lou/Fabian wasting good rolls on pure flavor is very on brand.
The best thing about Fabian is he’s entertaining when he’s succeeding big and he’s entertaining when he’s failing big.
Oh, my fave Fabian line I think is when Hargis comes in and is like, “You’ve murdered, yes?” and everyone is like yeah except for Kristen and he’s like, “OK but you’ve facilitated a lot of murder. You’ve blessed me to commit murders several times.”
Aguefort totally DESTROYS Gorgug when he tries to point out that maybe the school isn’t being run in the safest way and it’s amazing.
Also, Brennan as Aguefort prompting everyone to yell, “Chronomancy!” was very fun.
Truly, the most iconic moments of the session were BDG’s nat 20 roll to fool Iris as Professor Bargis (I can’t believe we got truly the only scenario where that worked because I thought he was doomed), Gorgug making his dex save for petrification (s/o to riz-gukgak) and then throwing out that “to be or not to be”, and Brennan grinning and slowly lowering his laptop screen because Hargis just did a one liner and killed the boss.
This is really far down for this comment but I really didn’t expect Adaine to pull the wig right when she did and trigger the combat. I mean, if she hadn’t, it would have run even later and I got home pretty late as is, but I really thought there was gonna be at least one conversation between the Id-ing the wig and the fight.
Sidenote: My fave Bad Kid dynamic is that everyone is constantly ganging up on everyone. It’s exactly how I remember all my friend groups in high school being.
Adaine makes very good use of spells like Tasha’s Hideous Laughter and Ray of Sickness. They’re like her go-to’s and they’re really low level.
Did Brennan write this villain just the make fellow teen jokes and to have a valid reason to say, “You snatched my wig?” Discuss.
This is way longer than I intended.
Anyway, as good as it the show was (and it was amazing) the wildest part for me is always gonna be that, after the show, I met Brennan and got confirmation that he has a tumblr, that was his account on that one post, and he is aware that I dunk on him on the regular. Truly not information I thought I was going to get when I started doing these and yet here we are. The internet is wild y’all.

What kind of d20 opinions? If you would like to share, I would love to hear them! No pressure if not, I just love hearing your thoughts on the show.
part of me is hesitant to give opinions because i truly love this fandom and how peaceful and kind it is, not that having opinions should cause an uproar but i also don’t want to start anything so just keep in mind that these are my opinions and in no way judge people who think the opposite. like you know just a general warning, i appreciate all opinions and respect all the people in the fandom
under a cut for length, starting with the good things i love and then a few unpopular ones. please ask me more about this show i love talking about it
The good:
i love the set up of the show, the format is so easy to get into and not as overwhelming as critical role. i can sit easily for a couple of hours and watch the d20 crew play rather than four-five hours for cr
also i love the battle ep/rp ep/battle ep format, it’s so smart and so much fun
i also need to add that there’s not one person in the cast i find irritating or annoying, i truly enjoy and love each and every person on the cast and i love the way brennan dms (he and deb ann woll are truly my favorite dms) i like the way he encourages batshit moves because they’re fun and he’s a little looser with the rules (i know that may be controversial but as someone who has never played and would like to, the way brennan dms is much more appealing because being strict with that many rules is intimidating as hell)
i like that they never have guests on, again that may be controversial, but it’s such a nice balance and camaraderie between the cast you can just feel the love and support and throwing another person in the mix would throw off that balance
i love the peppering of philosophy brennan throws in there and it’s so obvious he was home schooled because he truly sometimes has no clue how school works at all and it’s very very obvious he was a philosophy major
i’m so incredibly glad that my love for emily axford caused me to go on a binge of everything she’s been in (i get that way when i get super depressed) because i wouldn’t have found d20 otherwise, and it truly has changed my life for the better, it is just such joy and there’s moments of seriousness but because it’s a bunch of comedians it never gets too serious and upsetting
it’s genuinely and truly the best and most fun show and i wish everyone would give it a chance
The not as good:
i don’t ship fabian/riz as much as everyone else (read: don’t ship at all), and a lot of times i don’t struggle to see it at all (though i am a huge lesbian so mlm ships aren’t usually on my radar)
speaking of fabian, first season fabian is so fucking obnoxious and he needed that pirate beat down badly to take him down a few notches and now he’s like one of my favorites
kristen and tracker need to tone it down with the intense sex talk, like a joke here and there in the beginning of the season was great (and i will admit ‘officer kristen’ joke was fucking hilarious) but the fact they talk about different sex positions all the time in front of everyone is just a lot and very very annoying (i legit do not need to hear about the sex dungeon you have and you 69-ing on the ground) it’s gotten to the point where any time kristen says something i just zone out
there are FAR too many npcs on the team this season, i love each and every one of them dearly and i would love for them all to stay on board but it’s clear that brennan is overwhelmed because he forgets about so many of them (and is insistent on killing gilear)
i don’t enjoy the sidequests as much as the main quests (it took me literally months to watch bloodkeep because it just didn’t hold my attention), i miss the main cast, plus they’re so short i can’t get into the story. it is a nice hold over between seasons but i just can’t get into them, though it does introduce me to new people i adore (looking at you jess and lily and rekha)
