every time I see a human talking about "how cool it would be to have superpowers" or some shit like that I loose it a little bit more. do these people realize that being a mutant isn't just fun powers. like even beyond the shit I deal with trying to get jobs or all the relationships that have been ruined once people realized I'm a mutant. abilities aren't just fun and games, I have a friend who can't touch people without nearly killing them, I burned down three buildings before someone finally taught me to control my abilities, and these people are all like "wouldn't it be great to fly to work every day??" just admit that you see us as comic book characters and not real people with real struggles

ES21 japanese volumes part 2/??

Thanks for the warm reception on part 1! Honestly wasn't expecting anyone other than me and maybe a couple of friends to read, so it's nice to know that people enjoyed it! Also @blaka-smoko provided me with a link to scans of the VIS translation here-- it has up to volume 29 I believe for anyone interested (you'll have to make an account on the site to borrow the volumes though! but it's all free)
Now, to pick up where we left off--
Sena has just managed to escape the bullies, but they're in pursuit. He ends up running into a busy shopping street, where Hiruma, Sena's demonic upperclassman, happens to witness the following...
(First page -> Kuroki: "Alright! I caught...")
I love these pages sm, they're SO silly. This is the beginning of 'these kids might as well have superpowers', and I love that for them. And to be perfectly honest, I think the extra dramatic action scenes make for a really engaging sports manga, which is a genre where I tend get very bored of the whole, you know, Sports™ of it all. But ES21 always keeps me really engaged during the matches, and the super dynamic art is definitely one of the reasons.

Panel 4 -> Hiruma: "That cut...." (note that the kanji here is 走り方 which is pronounced ha-shi-ri-ka-ta and means 'way of running' or 'running style', but the romaji says カット (ka-tto) which is just the English 'cut' as a loanword. I told you Hiruma does this a lot!))
Love how they somehow make Sena navigating a crowd really well into something so cool lol. But I love this entire segment.

I just love this whole segment-- how good the art is, how intense and dynamic and fun they managed to make a simple chase scene, how it works so well with the football visuals that Hiruma is laying over Sena's movements in his mind, Hiruma's weird omniscient presence cementing itself into the narrative lol. Properly introducing the One Thing™ that Sena is crazy good at to the audience, and that is running (usually away from something lmao).

Panel 4 -> Kurita: "Wow-- amazing! Good job finding him, Hiruma!"

The audacity of Hiruma casually and blatantly lying that Sena joined of his own volition lol. He just lies because it's fun, why not? 😂 Also, when Hiruma says 'running back', it just says "RB" with furigana that says ランニングバック, which is 'running back' as a loan word lol.
(2nd pic -> Kurita: "Whoa number 21! The eyeshield is so cool!" Hiruma: "If we don't hide his face like this during matches, it'll start an all-out-war among the other sports teams.")
Lol I love how shrimpy Sena is <3 In the fan-scans, the idea that the other sports clubs would try to get at Sena wasn't really mentioned until the Cupids match, so I figured I'd include it. Also Hiruma looks SO NORMAL in the first couple of chapters lol, he just increasingly gets more spiky and demonic as the story progresses, and I love that for him, but seeing little babyfaced Hiruma is fun too.
(Panel 1 -> Sena: "But I'm the manager~~!!" Hiruma: "Then, player-and-manager. do both"
Panel 2 -> the posters say: "Stay away from him -- Or the mosaic comes off")
Mosaic meaning the blurred out bits, obv. I feel like there's certain lines from Hiruma where the translation doens't quite capture the like... cavalier command with implicit threat he has in Japanese lol.
Also I get this slight vibe from his Japanese dialogue that Hiruma is like, funny lol. There's more of a deliberate sense of set up and pay off when he talks, which I get a kick out of.
Finally, end of chapter one 😂 the fuck is brevity?
Bit of an aside, but something I never noticed before about this pic of Sena's room is that he seems to collect figures of some kind? And he has a lot of games (or possibly anime) in the tv cabinet. I know in the pilot chapter (which I might post about separately sometime), Sena was characterized as A Gamer™, but that seems to have largely been abandoned in the actual series. It's fun to see the lingering remnants of that aspect of Past-Sena lol.
Moving on to chapter 2!
(Mamori: "The American Football Club!?")
(Panel 1 -> Mamori: "But American Football is... You shouldn't pick something so dangerous!")
Regarding panel 2, there isn't a mistranslation really, but I wanted to point out-- because it's fucking hilarious-- that Mamori uses four separate words that all essentially mean weak and feeble to describe Sena 😭 She's like "--because Sena is (physically) weak, insubstantial, fragile, and The Weakest™!"
Sena: "Y, you don't have to go that far...."
She really didn't 😔 how's a bitch supposed to come back from that...
Then of course Sena reassures her that he's just the shumu/manager (whatever), and won't actually be playing in matches, which she is very relieved to hear.
(Mamori: "Huh? But then why are you here so early in the morning?
Sena: "A meeting about club management!!")
Oh Sena :')
Cut to:
(Hiruma: "Come now, it's morning practice!!!"
Sena: "ALL LIES~~!!")

Just wanted to gush a little about how much I love Murata's establishing shots, especially this one. Gives such an excellent vibe of early morning at a school before most students are present-- plus over the course of the series you end up getting such a good sense of the overall layout of the school!
(Panel 1 -> Kurita: "Well-- you know how we haven't had three people since the formation of the club? I was just so happy that I had to wake up early"
Panel 2 -> Kurita: "I was so amped up that I've been at it since 2am!" Hiruma: "An idiot, there's an idiot here.")
All told basically the same as the fan-scans, but I think the Japanese version slyly implies the existence of Musashi a little better. I always wonder with these things just how much of the back stories were hashed out-- like was Musashi's design already established? When we see him for the first time later (unbeknownst to us) did the creators already know That Guy was Musashi? Questions, questions...
(Panel 1 -> Sena: "That was close! I was about to join in on practice without realizing!" Hiruma: "Right, guess we should go through everything once, starting with the ladder."
Panel 2 -> Hiruma: "Since we've got newbies present and all." Sena: "Hiiieeeee!" (he's like a small dog, he whimpers when he's scared)
Panel 3 -> Kurita: "Ah wait. Actually my neck kind of hurts. I think I might call it quits after doing a 40 yard dash or something."
Panel 4 -> Hiruma: "40 yard dash, huh? It's been a while. Alright, let's measure our times.")
K-Kurita.... your head looks like it's gonna pop off.....

@blaka-smoko mentioned this in their reblog on the last post, but Hiruma preludes all his nicknames with 糞 (ku-so) which means like, shitty, but the furigana says ファッキン which is just "fucking" as a loan word lol. So all his nicknames canonically and literally start with the English word "fucking". Fucking chibi, Fucking monkey, Fucking manager, etc, etc. The official VIS version changed this to 'damn', which is nothing but a damn shame lol. Let Hiruma say fuck!! He's literally already saying it!!

He's so fucking spiky!! And I love how expressive their physical movements are, like Hiruma's little twist in the last panel is so fun.
The first three panels are basically accurate, (though in panel two, Hiruma is like "What's that? You want to run so bad you can barely contain it?" which made me chuckle) but panels 4 & 5 are different.
(Panel 4 -> Kurita: "But, isn't it weird? If he's that fast (and he uses 爆速 (ba-ku-so-ku) which means like, explosive speed) I think he would have been famous in middle school."
Panel 5 -> Hiruma: "Hmm... now that you mention it.... Well, we'll know for sure once we measure his time.")
I like that Kurita points out something to Hiruma that he didn't consider! These early chapters gives a bit more of a feel of Hiruma and Kurita's friendship imo, before there's more characters that the story needs to focus on, and the two of them solidly enter the Senpai™ realm among their teammates.
Of course, then Sena runs and gets 5.0 seconds, which is already fastest on their little team! But Hiruma isn't satisfied with that....
The fan-scans are aaaalmost right? But confused. It makes it sound like Hiruma is quoting something Sena said/wrote down in the past (that he somehow aquired as Hiruma is wont to do), and then the line in panel 3 just doesn't make sense. In Japanese, it comes across more as like, Hiruma looks up some records of Sena on his laptop, and the rest is him putting together an analysis based off of that.
(Panel 1 -> Hiruma: "In Kobayakawa Sena's middle school physical endurance records-- he came first only in Repetitive Sideways Hopping."
Panel 2 -> Hiruma: "Must be due to the explosive power that you built through your gopher-ing... which is how you have that rocket-start. But you immediately lose speed, which is why you never make any records in a footrace.
Panel 3 -> Hiruma: "So all we have to do is make sure you don't lose speed."
Panel 5 -> Hiruma: "CERBERUS!!!")

I don't know if it's true that 4.2 sec is the NFL record (at least at the time) or not, and frankly I don't care. Within the context of this series, 4.2 secs is the speed of light, and Sena's got it!
I've always liked that Sena's got this glass canon thing going on-- OP in terms of speed only, extremely weak in every other regard. It's funny and unexpected in a shounen protagonist, and it makes for a very satifying arc, even if there aren't any surprises. I actually in part got into B.N.H.A . waaay back in 2014 because Deku reminded me of Sena (well, I got into it because I'd read the artist's previous manga and was curious, but Deku reminding me of Sena is what made me stay (well, until I left again a couple years later lol)). Point is, I'm very fond of Sena, I think he's fun!
Oof I wanted to squeeze in one more pic but I'm at the limit already lol. But chapter 2 ends with excitement all around-- and Hiruma says that they'll be winning the Spring Tournament. (Sena imagines himself as the manager and boy, after all that you still think you're just gonna be the manager? 😭)
Of course this is when Hiruma informs them that the first match is tomorrow lol. A team with 3 players. Good luck!

Hi!!! I just wanted to talk about how Dan and Phil as a brand is so relatable to neurodivergents in the way that they've been treated recently. So DnP built their careers off of being "weird" and "quirky" and socially awkward. That was Their Thing. Dan spoke for years about being violently bullied (quotes such as "being punched in the head by dickheads" stand out as a pre-BIG example of just how violent it got at times), Phil had the Why I Was a Weird Kid series, they both were frequently talked about as being "weird" and "awkward" by other YouTubers - they WERE the "weird" ones of the vlog group. The ones that awkward teens could relate to. Unfortunately, this got the attention of the #imsoquirky crowd who talks like they're experiencing all of these things while also being the same people who would mock me for my autism.
And that's the crowd now saying Dan is too old to be posting catboy photos or saying that the two of them "give the ick now, idk why." And I just can't help but notice how much I relate to that as an autistic and ADHD person. So many times over the years, I've made "friends" who were slightly into my interests, but then got weirded out by how hard I went into them. I think what we're seeing is the same thing happening to Dan and Phil. Drawing cat whiskers on your face to answer questions? Well that's "so cute and quirky"!! (/s). But actually playing as Catboys in JRPGs, dressing up in cat ears, making animal noises (which the two of them always did but ig this group overlooked), etc? Well that's "too far" and "so weird."
I think Dan especially got hit with this because he has more subscribers. When he talks about being bullied, most people can relate to that. But then when he goes and honks a horn in a game repeatedly (which tbh I've done before myself, very ADHD coded of him) or talks about hiding behind vending machines to avoid talking to people, that is suddenly "too annoying/weird" for some of the audience that got into him for his "relatably weird" content.
Sorry this is such a long ramble, but basically Dan and Phil have accidentally become the perfect examples of how kids with autism/ADHD/social pragmatic disorder/nvld/dyspraxia *insert other neurodivergencies that can cause atypical socialization* are treated. People might find your initial "quirkiness" relatable because everyone feels awkward or socially anxious at times, but it's when they see that you are Actually Just Like That and it's not to be #relatable that they turn on you and start saying that you're "too much" and "too weird."
Dan and Phil were the "weird" ones of the British vlog scene, and those of us who tuned into the younows or watched their older videos knew this, but someone who only subbed after watching a meme review or the two of them playing undertale might have assumed that they were the "right" kind of quirky/weird.
This is probably incoherent, but I hope you get what I mean.

Spinder gets the point of this thought exercise but if they're going to ask such a contrived question, he's going to give a contrived answer. Which means he would learn a lot about trolleys and how easy it is to derail them (I am far from an expert but I think it would depend on the landscape. I suspect a trolley with a cable grip, like in San Francisco, is harder to derail if the cable grip is active, but idk). He's got a whole plan for derailing, or otherwise mechanically disrupting the trolley (if it stops pulling power does it stop moving? how fast can he get on the roof?). Aside from his absolute pettiness he also can't help but imagine the fallout from having vehicularly manslaughtered one or more people and he doesn't think he could deal with that.
Christina "now you're thinking with warpals" Larousse would just warp the trolley. Ideally this would happen after she already was not in the trolley, but if she has to die with it, so be it. In general, if sacrificing herself would save everyone else, she'd probably do it. But if there are other people in the trolley, as in some versions of the problem, because she's not going to sacrifice them to warp. Hypothetically she could just warp away the split in the track, thereby derailing the trolley and saving everyone. But that's a much smaller target than a trolley and harder to hit when she's moving. If she had to actually abide by the rules of the exercise she would kill the one person. Unless that one person was her father. Then she'd be so paralyzed about it that she'd do nothing and the five people would die. Which is still a lot less people than she indirectly enabled Althea to kill, but that's cold comfort.
Althea would let the five be killed without hesitation if there was a single person among them that had ever pissed her off. She doesn't really care either way, but it would feel better to get a little revenge. However, she would also switch away from a track Christina is tied to, an absolutely frigid comfort for Christina.
Vic, among others, has pointed out that if you do nothing, you're not responsible for what happens. Which is a tenuous position, but he would like it to be true. But he'd also rather kill one person than five, so make of that what you will.
Celia and Allison are still wondering what kind of Gotham-ass trolley line this is, like, first of all, how did these people get tied to the tracks? Is this some kind of a trick? Are the five people all robots and the one person a human? There's just not enough information here.
Dez would be extremely dismayed by the idea that the five people could be robots. But if they were, they have backups, right? Right? Syndy is already holding him back from steering away from the five probably-robots, because she considers herself an expert on how humans die, actually, so they can't run over the human. If the robots turn out to be humans, they are both scarred for life and also the first androids to go to jail, probably. They develop a weird game of chicken where they keep saying they're going to delete the memories but come up with reasons not to. Doing this only deals them more psychic damage.
"You just gotta kill the one person," Avis says, with total conviction and complete boredom. "That's how these puzzles work. You gotta do a shitty thing, so you have to do the least shitty version of the thing." It's a toss up if she'd automatically run over the five if she was considering whether or not to run over Sid as the one person, though.

i could write a dissertation on. aaron and the roys. i think he's...polite? i mean, he knows roman is super close to them despite how fockin shitty they are to him all the time, so he's willing to grin and bear it. he doesnt like ken for Reasons (annoying on twitter, involvement in 'dog pound', annoying in real life)*, he's rightfully intimidated by shiv, he thinks connor is rlly fuckin funny, he has a weird psychosexual obsession w tom (as stated, would put tom in a saw trap), he thinks greg is cool and would like to talk about his record collection w him.

aarons friends are hsi family! he lives w his childhood + college besties! they are all spectacular assholes as well so roman weirdly fits in! roman likes aarons bff because he is also a snarky asshole. one of aaron's college friends actually is from LA, so that's another person he can relate to somewhat. ovi he's a rich asshole tho and like, has to adapt to how normal people live and socialize (aaron and his friends arent even normal theyre like a weirdly codependent found family) but. they all kind come around to him! (will post extended oc universe lore someday on god)
Do they prefer verbal or physical affection?
i think they both are kinda stupid abt feelings and prefer physical affection, as sometimes its easier to manage than like, pouring your heart out. aaron is big on words of affirmation tho, once they r more comfy in their relationship/roman is more comfortable w receiving stuff like that.
Who remembers the little things?
aaron is def a romantic, he's big on anniversaries, quick to pick up little things like roman's coffee order, his favorite snacks, etc. roman is a little rusty but is surprisingly sensitive when he cares about someone. he's super in to aaron, so he makes sure to note all of aarons favorite movies and albums (so he can bring them up later and Totally sound like he knows what he's talking about).
[also they r a beautiful ocd (aaron) x adhd (roman) couple so in general aaron is Incredibly on top of things (or else he might die, who knows!) while roman is a fockin mess with remembering shit.]

I am always surprised on how much people are surprised Charles gets chased by other teams. He is one of the top drivers of course every team wants him. When they say they don’t they lie. When he says he hasn’t talked to other teams, he lies. It’s not the first time RB tried to get him, they might try every year. Lando is not their first choice when Charles exists. And not wanting two top drivers is just the excuse they say because they can’t sign him.
There is a weird narrative around Charles sometimes that leads people to be surprised by how good he is. I don’t feel like George gets the same treatment for example.
Charles is surrounded by weird narratives and hugely underestimated in press. Imagine, British bias said that George had great rookie season. And yes, it was good, but c'mon Leclerc and Sauber are literally exists.
And of course he lies when he says he doesn't talk to anyone. As we know he is the PR king. And sometimes I wish he was less PR. I mean he is unproblematic and it's amazing, but I would like some real thoughts about Silverstone hahahah. Maybe in 30 years we will read them in his biography.

I do feel like somewhere buried in my posts is a post about Dick and OCD. I need need need to find it because oh man I should have written everything down instead of just thinking I'd remember. I was looking for it in my tags but I almost lost this in my drafts so I'm just posting but I will continue to look. I might have it written in my private notes if not posted, though I already checked one spot. Will tag you if/when I find it. If not, I'll just type something that makes a lot more coherent sense!
Okay honestly biggest factor was the blorbo gets the self projection award.
However! I do think there's basis for it. There were just some things that pinged my brain and went aha yeah.
A small part of it - easiest part to explain right now - was how people say Dick has eldest daughter syndrome (jokingly or serious) and it is so easy for the neutralization (or layman's terms: being in control aspect of symptoms -> if you do this, it prevents that) to be masked when someone is in a position of leadership. If something has to be done a certain way or else your brain says something terrible will happen - well Dick is already in that position of leadership and is already shouldering a vast amount of responsibility. Masking his symptoms - from others or from himself even - becomes easier.
I think specifically applying the neutralization lenses of OCD is very interesting to me with Dick Grayson. Like the hypervigiliance aspect of OCD is so so easy as well to overlook because of him 1. being trained by Batman who practically invented the word hyper-vigilant 2. his work as a hero - especially as a leadership role - that ensures his diligence where his symptoms get masked as crossed his t's and dotting his i's and just being very thorough and prepared 3. any ~ weird quirks~ are also put into a scope of comparison of all the other people he knows and, well, they all are filled with quirks and honestly a lot of neurodivergence. It's like when ADHD parents say kids with ADHD's symptoms are 'just normal' bc they don't know any different. His scope for things and what humans do is graded on a skewed curve.
If he double checks information, if he makes backup plans, if he has 'odd' rituals for 'good luck' - all these things can be seen as either being prepared or as quirks. It's so easy to overlook as not being OCD even when symptoms are actually debilitating.
But a part of what interests me is - I know the Blockbuster arc is controversial but the idea (made into reality) that Dick will bring destruction into peoples' lives just by being near them and that he thinks by engaging with them that means he's poisoning them it is so, so interesting to me. If he disengages, to him that means they're safe and vice versa because he's the element of contamination here. Kind of an extreme example but currently I can't think of what comics I was reading at the time and I haven't read any this past year - maybe year and a half?
I wrote a fic based on a Robin Dick Grayson that touched on how he neutralized soms things. A lot of neutralization based on how revealing impersonal information would reveal his identity. If he lied about minor and major details of his life, it would protect his secret identity, which would protect his actual life and the lives of those around him. Which sounds reasonable! But it's like lying about what his favorite candy is otherwise his brain is telling him he's endangering the lives of Batman, Robin, and the Teen Titans.
Now so all of the above is focused mostly on undiagnosed OCD but in the future I do hope to further branch out and maybe do a more detailed post (fic in a couple years if I'm lucky. not this year though) about a Dick knowing he has OCD and with more overlapping symptoms. Rituals that interfere with life and don't 'make sense' and can't be explained away via vigilanteism. Contamination issues. Intrusive thoughts. Oh I forgot the word for it but the one with prayer like - "If I do this in this very specific way then this will happen" the piety one it's called because it's almost like praying except very Symptomed and some people do pray and don't realize it's OCD bc they're religious

Definitely her violin-- its a weird kinda electric violin that Kingfisher threw together for her years ago and it's her favorite thing in the world (second ofc to King themself). As for the second part, she kinda has mixed feelings about the special radio King gave her. It lets her talk to them more, but she wishes she didn't need it.
Corro - 12. What does their bed and/or desk look like? Tidy or cluttered - are they both the same, or is one neat and the other messy?
Oh, her stuff is absolutely a mess. Completely disorganized, clothes and all sorts of junk strewn everywhere. She considers it a Statement (no idea what its meant to be a statement about).
Lucrecia - 14. How comfortable are they relying on other people, and what situations would change their comfort level?
So, at the beginning of Thirst, Lucrecia is really uncomfortable relying on anyone. She views herself as dangerous, unreliable, and self-sufficient. She thinks she can tough through anything alone, and that's inherently better than getting anyone involved with her ever, because of the danger she poses to people.
As for what can change that, well, Ellie, it seems. An extremely gentle older woman who seems to be impervious to the danger that Lucrecia sees herself as. She doesn't trust her fully yet, but she's come a long way since chapter one.
Ellie - 18. If they can or would drive, what would their car be like?
Absolutely something flashy, some kinda sports car, bright red, the works. Lucrecia is embarrassed every time she gets into it because she doesn't like attention being drawn to her but Ellie doesn't care.

UM no okay i think to some extent they do have the general balance of it down-- both of them are good ("good", maybe even okay or fine) at recognizing when they've done something thats upset the other but neither one of them is good at saying "im sorry" and they instead rely on other means to try and make it up to the other. eichi is really good at long-winded explanations in which he can get kinda self-flaggelaty that wataru isnt a huge fan of and wataru likes to rely on like big gestures of reconciliation and while both of those do help i think the biggest element of them making up is then like... in them spending time together?
i think wataru at one point must have told eichi to stop apologizing for stuff because eichi gets SO down about it to a point where it doesnt help either of them

god you know that one homescreen line where yuzuru asks wataru to make a mess so he can clean it up because he needs that right now? i think it's partially stuff like that. fine have all become really good at watching out for each other and i think wataru is one of the people who watches out the most for yuzuru. it's like the whole thing about masks, imo? like as the people most accustomed to wearing a kind of mask, they find it easiest to let it down around the person who understands it.
like i think there's a lot contained in the simple act of like having someone who you feel you can ask for stuff without really having to hold back even if it's something as simple as "i'm feeling down or frustrated or just generally On Edge and need a distraction, youre a good distraction, please help" and i think wataru would approach yuzuru for similar reasons... i just almost used the phrase "when he needs to be grounded" which is ig a fun double-meaning here... hehe
eiyuzu: 16 - What’s their favorite “domestic bliss” moment? Do they cook/clean together? Do they like to go out shopping together?
The image of yuzuru being forced to do any domestic task in the company of eichi would perhaps drive both of them crazy. can "schemeing corporate warfare" be a domestic activity? can "tormenting ibara" be one?
I like the thought of them actually doing more work together after Yuzuru graduates-- he already helps out a lot at the office but I like the idea of Eichi involving him more in this type of work when school is no longer a factor. it's the opposite of domestic though, I guess... I think Yuzuru is more appreciative of a tea break than even Wataru (who tends to be restless if it goes on for too long, which can be a lot for Eichi on stressful days) especially if Eichi actually forces him to engage. I think he has to start out using like weird underhanded tactics to actually get Yuzuru to go along with whatever he's doing (you know the story where he's doing breakroom drink alchemy? yeah) until he's successfully tricked him into a regular (semi-peaceful, it's still yuzuru and eichi whos main bonding activity imo involves discussing war strategies or something) one on one mid-workday date
wataeiyuzu: 13 - What’s their opinions on PDA?
SPLIT. i think its something yuzuru isn't comfortable with to the same extent as wataei. i think he'd enjoy like. casual terms of endearment and potentially even just like the odd subtle casual like. touch or brush of hands (i think wataru and eichi are both ABSOLUTELY on board w shit like this. its about the Tension.), but he won't let himself be roped into making out in the starpro office or anywhere where someone who isn't any of the three of them might be able to see it. tori is a complicating factor and i think yuzuru really struggles ESPECIALLY when tori is around because it's so ingrained to him that he cannot really let himself be human around tori and that takes a while to unlearn? i think he does eventually but ig the like timeline i'm thinking about is canon-adjacent and. yeah not yet LOL. this is the real reason we don't know about wataeiyuzu being canon, perhaps.
another complicating factor is of course all of them being public figures and ESPECIALLY idols. i think wataru and eichi are both people who wouldn't have an issue with pda in theory but they are both ABSOLUTELY aware of stuff like public image etc and put huge importance on that so they're absolutely extremely careful about what they actually do when observed by more than just. fellow idols.

I don’t understand the babying of seb on SM.
Pretty sure he has the means to drive the f1 cars je wants. Either with his money or asking people and even ferrari (PR wise or could be a good move they still work with a lot of their ex drivers)
People forgot his RB days. The way he was let go at ferrari may have been harsh but from 2019-2020 Seb did not deliver on track especially compared to his teammate. It was not much better at Aston Martin most week ends. It was time for him to retire.
I don’t see the same people defending bottas who was an obvious n2, got ask to let his teammate win instead of him, was a seat filler while waiting for georges in the last 2 years at mercedes a least …
Ricciardo was a bad firing and even there … the results speak for themselves.
Seb was a great driver. He won 4 times. He was not treated more badly than other drivers at ferrari. Ferrari is always first, drivers second. They let Kimi go and kept him. They publicly said Seb was n1 and charles n2 in 2019. Then 3 years of there is no n1. Maybe they even offered a pre-retiring seat to seb too. The team loved to work with him, he still loves Ferrari.
It’s racing and business first. If Charles or Carlos don’t perform the way they are expected to they will loose their seat too.
There is some stuff here that I don't agree with but yeah.
I get the babying because we all do it when it comes to our faves to some extent.
And this is going to be a bit of a rant but I've seen too many tweets and the one from the Aston e-sports team member kinda set me off a little.
There is a few things that imo go into the outrage anytime Charles breathes near a classic Ferrari. And one side is the fact that a lot of Seb fans have not forgiven Charles for beating him and in the end beating him the way that he did. While it was happening there were some weird theories around and it feels like some stuck in their heads.
But they didn't have a problem with Ferrari organising for Mick to drive his dads car or Ferrari organising for Carlos to drive a classic car. It's just a Charles thing.
And I understand that the way that the Ferrari stint ended wasn't great for Seb and I too wish that it were different but that is a separate issue from both Charles and the classic cars.
And the biggest thing imo is that people confuse (some definitely on purpose) Sebs love for Ferrari with Ferraris love for Seb.
Seb loves Ferrari (although I personally am of the opinion that that's more a Michael thing than it is an actual Ferrari thing but I digress).
Seb is also a F1 legend, he did win 4wdcs after all and he was objectively a great driver. But in terms of Ferrari itself he is just a great driver for Ferrari and not a legend. He won wdcs, but he didn't win them with Ferrari.
And Ferrari the team have a long list of drivers, some were just there, some were great and some were legends and Seb just in terms of Ferrari isn't in that last category.
But because Seb admires Ferrari a lot people (and I do find this fascinating) expect Ferrari to roll out all the red carpets for him in terms of giving him the experiences that he would like to have.
If you tell most of them that these cars are privately owned and that the owner decides who drives them they'll tell you that Seb asked Ferrari and that that has to be enough and that Ferrari should organise it for him because he loved Ferrari so much.
And that's just not how any of it works. Wanting Seb to be treated well and wishing that it had ended differently and wishing that he would get a go in the classic cars (as I actually do) is perfectly fine.
But to expect Ferrari to go out of their way to organise these experiences for a driver that was "just" a great driver for them is a bit wild.
They sorta did it for Mick when he got to drive the F2004 in 2020. But Mick getting to drive his dads car as an FDA member is a bit of a different situation. They don't do this for anybody else.
I've looked up the timeline some more and Ferrari changed CEOs in 2021. And since then Charles was allowed to drive 2 classic cars when it was organised by Ferrari.
The first was in 2021 in Silverstone where he got to drive the car that got the first GP win for Ferrari at the 70 year anniversary of that win.
And last year he got to drive Gilles car at the 40th anniversary of his death.
Celebrating these anniversaries like that is clearly a new marketing thing.
Ferrari aren't rolling out the red carpet like that for Charles either. Because why would they?
Seb loving Ferrari the way that he does doesn't automatically mean that Ferrari has to pull out all the stops to give him the experiences that he wants. And people just want to be angry at Charles because they still haven't forgiven him for beating Seb and whatever other crimes he has committed in their heads.
I want Seb to get to drive those cars, but to pretend that Ferrari are letting Charles do it as some kind of way to retroactively hurt Seb is fascinating to me.
And I am also sure that Thomas Flohr wouldn't say no if Seb asks if he can drive the car at one of these Ferrari events. But it's not on Ferrari to provide that.

Loses once:
Regarding the Pokémon TCG, I watched Pokémon Path To The Peak. You know, the little Youtube miniseries about a girl who becomes the best TCG player. They reach the peak, if you will. It’s cute! I liked it despite only having a passing familiarity with the card game. (Marvel Snap is the only collectible card game I play) What I don’t have a passing familiarity with, however, is competing in a fighting game. Even though the series is good, it’s not great, and there’s one big reason for that. (Aside from the fact that it’s effectively an ad for the card game but I digress)
Let’s get the big issue out of the way first. The pacing. I get that this is more of a by-product of the length of the series (45 minutes) but because of it, we don’t get to see a lot of what makes competing in a competitive game so fun: the locals. Of course there’s a lot of card game specific stuff that the series glosses over such as deckbuilding and strategy, but as a fighting game fan, the local events being offscreen is so frustrating to me.
Competitive communities are more than the big events, a big part of them are getting with your group every month or so to play at a game store, or having memorable moments within those locals, or losing and learning from those losses!! The show’s length means it’s forced to only hit the important beats for the plot and we don’t get to see a lot of Ava’s growth as a player. The most irritating example for me is when we’re told that Ava “only cared about winning” in episode 4 but we don’t really see enough of that to believe it. This was after she lost 1 set to get 2nd at a major by the way!!! That’s incredibly difficult!!!
There are also a lot of things that are almost good, but not quite. In episode 1, teaching someone a game only to stomp them is a more frustrating experience than anything as someone who has tried to do that many, many times as opposed to how Joshua reacted. In episode 2, Celestine’s complete personality 180 is jarring, despite how well she plays off Ava and Joshua later. Edgar being on “Team Falinks” is an interesting chance to explore how stressful the expectations of an Org sponsor can be…until you realize that Edgar is the leader of that team. It’s these little things that wouldn’t bother a normal person but do bother me.
That isn’t to say I didn’t like the series though! I do! I think the series is full of cute moments, it’s funny, the fight scenes are animated well, in fact the entire show looks quite good. The main cast is fun and play off each other well. I like how weird Ava’s team is, you don’t usually see Oddish as someone’s ace backed up by a Darkrai. (Also, I crunched the numbers on Twitter, Ava’s fully evolved Oddish would have beaten Edgar’s Groudon if she went first)
I enjoyed this series. It’s good, but it’s not quite great. I wonder what other people thing of this and I’ll read as many RBs as I can. I really do feel like the series has a lot going for it and is still a fun watch. I just wish it had more substance.

Whenever I see you having an exchange with another blog all I can think of is why do you do that to yourself lmao… when a blog is brave enough to directly reblog you and start shit it means they feel confident enough in their clique to back them up (even if they’re wrong) and boom you gained five hostiles… I’d just ignore their asses… they’re literally ganging up on you like it’s hs.
As far as I can tell, no one came to this person's rescue. But either way.
I'm a bad role model in fandom. I don't practice what I preach. I tell you guys to just block and ignore people, but something like this happens, and...
I don't always respond. If someone RBs one of my posts and disagrees with it in a very mild way, I normally just let it go unless it's something like when that person took a meta post of mine and used it to go off on an unhinged rant about how Leon is a misogynist -- and I only responded to them because I did NOT want my words misconstrued like that and I didn't want people to think that that's what I was trying to say.
And I was going to just let this one go, too, but when I saw them post a piece of concept art where Leon had brown hair and said "he's blonde here" I just.
I saw that and I just kind of looked at the screen helplessly and went "Oh, no. That's objectively funny." And I couldn't not just paste the colors back at them. And they got so mad. And then it got even funnier.
It's like when that weird friends group decided to get all asshurt at me for calling Leon old, and then I dug through their blogs and found out that they were all women older than me with blogs that were filled with nothing but posts and reblogs calling 27-year-old Leon "Daddy" and I pointed it out and they all IMMEDIATELY blocked me.
That was my favorite thing.

it has only happened once.
Unfortunately, the conversation never went anywhere, but I would LOVE to have more in depth, nuanced conversations about interpretations of dialogue and theming and imagery.
But all I ever get instead are dopes who don't know what the color brown is or think that an ad for an Airsoft gun is canon. So if that's all I'm gonna get, I'm at least gonna make it funny.

sorry about not being on here and only coming on to rb edits and fcs dksfhj i’ve been taking some time away to try and figure out what i should do w this blog because while i do love all of the threads and dynamics i currently have (and i do mean this with my whole ass chest and heart), i’ve been feeling bad about some stuff...
like there are drafts i haven’t touched in 1-2 months that i’m not even sure if i should still tackle. most of my partners are fast-paced and i worry they feel like i’m not the partner for them and just don’t want to say it 😭 ik some ppl have expiry dates and have probably already considered them dropped so i’m at an awkward point where i don’t know what to do. i also have a lot of insecurities when it comes to my writing and stance with people that adds to it
most of this is just a Me problem too honestly... i find it hard to communicate and feel insecure about our threads if we aren’t close or if we don’t interact much ooc, if someone stops replying to me ooc i start to worry i’ve done something wrong so it puts me off from replying to threads which i’m 100% aware is honestly SO dumb and unfair. i never blame anyone but myself for this and it’s something i should and have been trying to work on.
because i’ve always been aware of these insecurities, my initial idea for this blog was to keep it private and friends only, but at the same time i want to meet more people and don’t want to close off potential new partners 😔 so i was never really strict w that rule.
i want people i can rave about our muses / ships with when we’re feeling musey while still being able to talk about other stuff. bc that’s really only why i’m here. no weird vibes just pure pals who talk and write sometimes<3 i feel like everyone but me has Those Partners while i’m just floating here like pennywise’s red balloon...
maybe this blog needs a big clean up overall, idk. i’m thinking of moving (again... i know) and taking w me the people who are genuinely still interested in writing whether it be w our existing stuff or new ones. or... just disappear quietly and start completely fresh on a new blog w new muses (those i have long term stuff with, we could either continue on d.iscord or on a private sideblog)
if you do end up reading all of that mess, i’m sorry dsfksjfgf i’d love some opinions on what you think i should do... or maybe a show of hands who here would genuinely still like to write together? that might help me w my decision-making but if not, pls just scroll past this post and move on with your day<3 i know this is really awkward so i’ll just assume you didn’t see this post, no hard feelings!

hai :3 what actually is the deal with amegaotaku i feel like i missed a bunch of lore here

to be quite frank im also missing most of the lore but
to give you a rundown of what i DO know:
at some point a few years ago amegaotaku (fandom blogger?) got into beef with some people younger than them and got pretty severely clowned on for it, one of those people being user nonbinaryjew (who seems pretty chill honestly). no idea what this og drama is or was.
after this, amegaotaku picked up the habit of sending people asks saying that nonbinaryjew (and anyone else who talked about her) were just trying to smear her and were ableist, ageist, and biphobic, because she happens to be autistic, in her thirties, and bisexual. this also would lead to asks that clearly showed she didnt even really check who she was sending these asks to other than that they were vaguely associated in circles near her nemesis because shed send things like "make sure you have in your bio info on whether or not youre in your 30s, bisexual, or disabled" to people like me, who make that stuff pretty apparent
the asks vary in nature but almost all of them are copy-pasted and sent en masse. i thought she was botting honestly but tonight she was responding to peoples responses so it seems she may just do this???
a lot of times she'll throw out really bizarre accusations. tonight she accused @mdq of being a biphobic ableist and they havent even...interacted
these asks arent really constant-- instead of being the occasional message to a blog over time, a lot of blogs (usually people who are mutuals with each other) will get them all within a few days or a week of each other, and then things will go silent on the amegaotaku front. she just sorta pops back up, and i think she may name search for when people talk about it? honestly i dont even know what the original drama was it had to have been a few years ago she just has continued this weird little cycle. if you see her send one to a mutual of yours she'll probably end up sending one to you OR it becomes really easy to bait her into sending one just by joking about it with her name mentioned (see: a mutual saying her name 3 times with candle emojis as a play on bloody mary and her responding) or interacting with the og post. this has not helped her lolcow-esque status
she also appears to make throwaway blogs to message/rb from people or at the very least did so tonight and then immediately deactivates them? which is a little strange given everyone knows who it is. maybe its just more convenient
anyway if you get an ask that has any of the characteristics of the above you shouldnt take it personally because its probably just a copypasta being sent without real regard for who its being sent to lol, which means most people just think of the whole thing as kinda a joke
