I might sound like an old granny (i'm 27) but it's crazy to see how low the attention span is with new generations, and how they are constantly using their smartphones. At lessons in my university, it seems ALL of them are checking their phone at least once every hour, and there's a huge part of them - especially in the last rows - who spend more than half of their time on their screen rather than paying attention to the lesson. No joking, not exaggerating. Socials, messages, games... they look like addicts. I met some younger girls and their response time after i text them is crazy, like, they are quicker than the pizzeria near home, or my doctor. They are ready to send texts every single damn time of the day if they are not asleep. I see them looking at dozens, hundreds of memes, reels, every fucking hour, and they even interrupt my focus just to show me some of them before going back to scroll and scroll. If something doesn't catch their attention, they scroll by in less than a second or two. It's like they're desperately craving content.

I'm not saying it's "bad", but i will never say this is anything "good". For me, it almost makes me anxious. How fucking hyper connected they are. I realize i'm not like them, i don't give a shit about most of the content they live for, i'm totally outside of their world. I mean i consider myself as a tech-positive, but not this way, not at all. Hell. The more i think of it, the more i find it creepy.

Saving the world outside of fantasy shouldn't even be a logical thought put into your head.

Saving your school from school shooters shouldn't be a first thought when those alarms sound.

Lighting a candle shouldn't make you immediately think of how to world is burning.

You're a child, you don't deserve this pressure.

You should be allowed to learn and grow, have fun and make mistakes.

Not fend for yourself against judgemental adults and scream for equality and climate change while developing.

You're so strong, but for reasons you shouldn't have to face until you're ready.

And call me old fashioned, but that's just not me. I sometimes take ages to create and publish. And I will love a show or movie for such a long time (years, babes, years) that I just can't relate to the fast consumerism that's going on.

Because, let's be real, it can get really lonely in a fandom if most have simply moved on to the next shiny thing. Is what's created less worth, just because it was created outside the hype? Why is it such a taboo for this new fandom generation to love an old or "late" fic or art?

It's so tiring and I'm too old for the 30-seconds-hype-tiktok-shit. Just tired. So, so tired.
