🇺🇳🇵🇸🇮🇱🚨 ⚠️UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY APPROVES RESOLUTION DEMANDING CEASEFIRE IN GAZA⚠️

The United Nations General Assembly approved a resolution today demanding an "immediate humanitarian ceasefire" in the Gaza Strip.

The resolution passed with resounding support, with 153 Nations voting in favor, 10 nations voting against, and 23 abstentions.

The resolution demands an "immediate humanitarian ceasefire", the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages and "ensuring humanitarian access", according to the United Nations General Assembly newsroom.

The resolution also reiterated the General Assembly's demand that all parties comply with their obligations under International Law, including Humanitarian Law, "notably with regard to the protection of civilians."

According to the UN newsroom, prior to the ceasefire resolution vote, two amendments making specific reference to Hamas were voted down by the Assembly.

What is International Moon Day?

International Moon Day is an annual day dedicated to the Earth’s one and only natural satellite, the Moon!

It is held every year on July 20, which is the anniversary of the day on which astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin famously set foot on the Moon in 1969.

The Moon landing is still considered one of humanity’s greatest achievements.

International Moon Day is all about commemorating the Apollo 11 mission while teaching people about the Moon and astronomy.

Significance of International Moon Day

• The General Assembly declared International Moon Day, a United Nations-designated international day to be observed annually on July 20, in its Resolution 76/76 on “International cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space” in 2021.

• International Moon Day marks the anniversary of the first landing by humans on the Moon as part of the Apollo 11 lunar mission.

• The celebrations will also consider the achievements of all States in the exploration of the Moon and raise public awareness of sustainable Moon exploration and utilization.

History of International Moon Day

• American astronauts Neil Armstrong, and Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin became the first humans in history to land on the Moon on 20 July 1969.

The grand Apollo 11 mission took place eight years after the national goal announcement by President John F. Kennedy to send a man to the moon by the end of the 1960s.

• The idea for the mission to send astronauts to the moon started when President Kennedy appealed to a special joint session of Congress in 1961, stating:

“I believe this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to Earth.”

• At the time of Kennedy’s proposal, the United States was still head-to-head with the Soviet Union in advancements in space exploration and, since it was during the time of the Cold War, the proposal was welcomed.

The first unmanned Apollo mission was initiated by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), after five years of effort and hard work by their international team of engineers and scientists.

The first mission served as a testing phase for the structural resilience of the launch spacecraft vehicle.

• At 9:32 A.M. on 16 July 1969, the whole world witnessed Apollo 11 take off from Kennedy Space Center with three astronauts on board — Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, and Michael Collins.

Neil Armstrong was the commander of the mission.

The spacecraft entered the lunar orbit after three days, on July 19.

The lunar module, Eagle, disengaged from the main command module the next day, manned by Armstrong and Aldrin.

When Eagle touched the lunar surface, Armstrong radioed his historical message to Mission Control in Houston, Texas:

“The Eagle has landed.”

• At 10:39 P.M., Armstrong exited the lunar module and made his way down its ladder.

His progress was being recorded by a television camera attached to the module, transmitting signals back to Earth, where the world was watching with bated breath.

• At 10:56 P.M., Armstrong stepped on the moon’s powdery surface, and spoke his iconic words:

“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

🇵🇸🇮🇱🇺🇳 THE TEN COUNTRIES THAT OPPOSED THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION CALLING FOR A CEASEFIRE IN GAZA

The United Nations today approved a resolution calling for an immediate Humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

In that vote, 153 countries voted in favor of the resolution, while 10 countries opposed it and another 23 abstained from voting.

Here are the ten countries that voted against a ceasefire in Israel's genocidal war of aggression on the Palestinian population living in the Gaza Strip:

UN General Assembly president: The UN Security Council remains unable to maintain international peace and security

The president of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly said on Thursday that the UN Security Council was failing in its responsibility to maintain international peace and security.

Dennis Francis’ remarks came during a session on Council reform at the UN General Assembly, during which he noted that conflicts and wars continue to spread in many parts of the world. Francis emphasised that the UN was “paralysed” in confronting these challenges because of divisions within the UN Security Council. He said:

During this major transformation, the UN Security Council remains dangerously unable to fulfill its basic duty to maintain international peace and security.

Francis stressed that unless there is structural reform in the Council, the credibility of the entire United Nations, not just the Security Council, will be in question.

The main purpose of the United Nations, established 75 years ago, on 24 October 1945, after the end of the Second World War, is the maintenance of international peace and security.

بنیادی طور پر یہ آنجہانی امریکی صدر روزویلٹ کا تصور تھا کہ پہلی عالمی جنگ کے بعد لیگ آف نیشنز کی ناکامی سے سبق سیکھتے ہوئے ایک ایسی موثر عالمی تنظیم تشکیل دی جائے جو کبھی جنگ نہ ہونے دے اور اجتماعی عالمی شعور اور تدبر کام میں لاتے ہوئے تمام ایسے مسائل کا حل ڈھونڈے جو جنگ کا سبب بن جاتے ہیں۔ چنانچہ دوسری عالمی جنگ کے اختتامی مہینوں میں نازی جرمنی اور جاپان سے نبرد آزما اتحادیوں ( امریکا ، برطانیہ ، سوویت یونین اور قوم پرست چین ) نے ایک عالمی تنظیم کی بنیاد رکھنے کا فیصلہ کیا۔ اس کا چارٹر تشکیل دینے کے لیے سان فرانسسکو وار میموریل اوپیرا ہاؤس میں پچیس اپریل تا چھبیس جون انیس سو پینتالیس پچاس اقوام کے تیرہ سو مندوبین سر جوڑ کے بیٹھے۔ یہ تب تک کی انسانی تاریخ کا سب سے بڑا بین الاقوامی اجتماع تھا جسے ڈھائی ہزار صحافیوں نے کور کیا۔ چوبیس اکتوبر انیس سو پینتالیس کو اکیاون ممالک کے دستخطوں سے اقوامِ متحدہ کی باقاعدہ پیدائش عمل میں آئی۔ آج اس کے ارکان کی تعداد ایک سو ترانوے ہے۔ اقوامِ متحدہ کے چھ بنیادی بازو ہیں۔ سب سے اہم جنرل اسمبلی ہے جس کے ایک سو ترانوے ارکان ہر برس ستمبر میں مل بیٹھتے ہیں اور بین الاقوامی معاملات پر اظہارِ خیال کرتے ہیں ، مباحثہ ہوتا ہے ، قرار دادیں منظور ہوتی ہیں۔

جنرل اسمبلی کسی نئے رکن کی شمولیت، سیکریٹری جنرل کی پانچ سالہ مدت کی تعیناتی، سالانہ بجٹ اور دیگر اہم انتظامی امور سے متعلق فیصلے دو تہائی اکثریت سے کرتی ہے۔ جب کہ عمومی فیصلے سادہ اکثریت سے ہوتے ہیں۔ رکن ممالک ایک برس کے لیے اپنے میں سے کسی ایک کو جنرل اسمبلی کے لیے صدر بھی منتخب کرتے ہیں۔ اقوامِ متحدہ کا دوسرا اہم بازو پندرہ رکنی سلامتی کونسل ہے جس کا بنیادی کام بین الاقوامی امن کو درپیش خطرات کی نشاندہی ، بحث اور اس بابت فیصلے اور ان پر عمل درآمد ہے۔ کونسل کے پانچ ِ ( امریکا ، برطانیہ ، روس، فرانس ، چین ) مستقل اور دس غیر مستقل ارکان ہیں۔ مستقل ارکان کو ویٹو کا حق حاصل ہے۔ فیصلے کثرتِ رائے سے ہوتے ہیں۔ سلامتی کونسل اقوامِ متحدہ کے کسی بھی رکن ملک کے خلاف عالمی امن کے مفاد میں تادیبی پابندیوں اور فوجی کارروائی کا حکم دے سکتی ہے۔ اس کے فیصلوں کی پاسداری اقوامِ متحدہ کے تمام ارکان پر لازم ہے۔ پندرہ ارکان گردشی بنیاد پر ماہانہ سلامتی کونسل کے اجلاس کی صدارت کرتے ہیں۔ مگر سلامتی کونسل کے اکثر فیصلوں پر رکن ممالک کی جانب سے تنقید بھی ہوتی ہے اور بہت سے ممالک مستقل اور غیر مستقل ارکان کی تفریق اور ویٹو پاور پر بھی خاصے تحفظات ظاہر کرتے رہتے ہیں۔

اقوامِ متحدہ کی اقتصادی و سماجی کونسل کی ذمے داریوں میں انسانی ترقی اور سماجی و ماحولیاتی مسائل سے نمٹنے کے منصوبے بنانا ، حل تجویز کرنا اور رکن ممالک سے عمل درآمد کروانا اور ان کی نگرانی ہے۔ کونسل کے چون ارکان کا انتخاب جنرل اسمبلی تین برس کی مدت کے لیے کرتی ہے۔ اقوامِ متحدہ کا چوتھا بازو عالمی عدالتِ انصاف ہے۔ یہ عدالت ہالینڈ کے دارالحکومت دی ہیگ میں بیٹھتی ہے۔یہ عدالت بین الاقوامی تنازعات کے فیصلے کرتی ہے۔ ان فیصلوں کا اخلاقی دباؤ فریقین کو ان پر عمل درآمد پر مجبور کرتا ہے۔ جب کہ دی ہیگ میں ہی جرائم کی بین الاقوامی عدالت انسانیت کے خلاف جرائم کی سماعت کرتی ہے اور مجرموں کو سزا بھی سناتی ہے۔ انیس سو پینتالیس میں جب اقوامِ متحدہ کا قیام عمل میں آیا تو اس وقت نوآبادیاتی دور عروج پر تھا۔ لہٰذا ایک ٹرسٹی شپ کونسل قائم ہوئی۔ اس کے تحت کسی بھی غیر آزاد خطے کا انتظام عارضی طور پر کسی رکن ملک کے حوالے کر دیا جاتا۔ جیسے فلسطین کا انتظام برطانیہ کے حوالے کیا گیا۔

مگر اس کے نتیجے میں برطانیہ نے ارضِ فلسطین کو آزادی کے لیے تیار کرنے کے بجائے یہاں ایک صیہونی ریاست کے قیام کی راہ ہموار کر دی۔ جسے انیس سو سینتالیس میں اقوامِ متحدہ کی سلامی کونسل نے قانونی حیثیت دے دی۔ یہ فیصلہ امن و انصاف کے بجائے ایک رستا ہوا بین الاقوامی ناسور بن گیا۔ انیس سو چورانوے تک وہ تمام گیارہ علاقے آزاد یا خودمختار ہو گئے جن کا انتظام ٹرسٹی شپ کونسل سنبھالتی تھی۔ چنانچہ اب اس کونسل کا وجود محض علامتی ہے۔ مگر اقوامِ متحدہ کا دماغ سیکرٹیریٹ کہلاتا ہے جہاں سے بیوروکریسی اقوامِ متحدہ کے سسٹم کو چلاتی ہے۔ سیکریٹری جنرل اس تنظیم کا چہرہ ہے۔ اس کا انتخاب ہر پانچ برس بعد ہوتا ہے اور اسے ایک اور مدت کے لیے بھی چنا جا سکتا ہے۔ جیسے موجودہ سیکریٹری جنرل انتونیو گوتریز اس وقت دوسری مدت پوری کر رہے ہیں۔ اقوامِ متحدہ کے سیکریٹری جنرل کو دنیا کا سب سے مصروف عہدیدار بھی کہا جاتا ہے۔ اس کی معاونت کے لیے درجن سے زائد ڈپٹی اور اسسٹنٹ سیکریٹری جنرل ہوتے ہیں۔سیکرٹیریٹ اور ذیلی اداروں میں دنیا کے ہر ملک سے لیے گئے عہدیدار اور ملازمین کام کرتے ہیں۔

ان کی بھرتی ہر براعظم کے کوٹے کے مطابق اہلیت کی بنیاد پر کی جاتی ہے۔ اقوامِ متحدہ کے ملازمین کی تعداد چالیس ہزار سے زائد ہے۔ اتنی بڑی بیوروکریسی اور اس کی مبینہ مراعات پر ناک بھوں بھی چڑھائی جاتی ہے اور امریکا سمیت اقوامِ متحدہ کو سب سے زیادہ چندہ دینے والے ممالک یہ معاملہ اکثر اٹھاتے رہتے ہیں۔ اقوامِ متحدہ کے ذیلی اداروں میں یونائیٹڈ نیشنز ڈویلپمنٹ پروگرام ( یو این ڈی پی ) ایک سو ستر ممالک میں پسماندگی میں کمی کے بیسیوں منصوبوں پر کام کر رہا ہے۔ یو این ہیبیٹاٹ ماحولیاتی مسائل سے نبرد آزما ہے۔ بچوں کی فلاح و بہبود کے عالمی ادارے یونیسیف کی ایک سو نوے ممالک میں شاخیں ہیں۔ یونائیٹڈ نیشنز انوائرنمنٹ پروگرام انیس سو بہتر سے فعال ہے۔ ورلڈ فوڈ پروگرام اٹھاسی ممالک میں سالانہ دس کروڑ لوگوں کو فاقے اور ناکافی غذائیت سے بچا رہا ہے۔ یونائیٹڈ نیشنز پاپولیشن فنڈ سب سے بڑے عالمی مسئلے یعنی آبادی میں بے تحاشا اضافے اور موجودہ آبادی کے معیارِ زندگی کو بہتربنانے کے مقصد پر نظر رکھے ہوئے ہے۔ اس کے علاوہ فوڈ اینڈ ایگری کلچرل آرگنائزیشن (ایف اے او)، یو این انڈسٹریل ڈویلپمنٹ آرگنائزیشن ، ورلڈ ٹورزم آرگنائزیشن ، یونیورسل پوسٹل یونین اپنی اپنی جگہ اہم ہیں۔

عالمی ادارہِ صحت ( ڈبلیو ایچ او ) نے کوویڈ کی عالمی روک تھام میں کلیدی کردار ادا کیا۔ انٹرنیشنل لیبرآرگنائزیشن ( آئی ایل او ) کا مزدور دوست قوانین سازی میں کردار خاصا اہم ہے۔ یونیسکو عالمی ثقافت اور آثار کے تحفظ کے لیے گرانقدر کام کر رہا ہے۔ اقوامِ متحدہ کی انسانی حقوق کونسل سال بہ سال انسانی حقوق کی پامالیوں کی روک تھام کے لیے ایک موثر احتسابی ادارہ بنتا جا رہا ہے۔ فلسطینی پناہ گزینوں کے لیے یواین ریلیف اینڈ ورکس ایجنسی، عالمی پناہ گزینوں کے لیے یو این ہائی کمشنر فار ریفوجیز ( یو این ایچ سی آر ) ، جوہری پھیلاؤ کی روک تھام کے لیے انٹرنیشنل اٹامک انرجی ایجنسی ( آئی اے ای اے ) اپنے اپنے میدانوں میں بیش بہا خدمات انجام دے رہے ہیں۔ ٹوکیو میں یو این یونیورسٹی قائم ہے جہاں قیامِ امن سے متعلق مضامین کی تعلیم و تحقیق پر خصوصی توجہ دی جاتی ہے۔ اقوامِ متحدہ کی مختلف ذیلی تنظیمیں اپنی خدمات کے اعتراف میں انیس سو پچاس سے اب تک بارہ نوبیل امن انعامات حاصل کر چکی ہیں۔

اقوامِ متحدہ کا سالانہ بجٹ ساڑھے تین ارب ڈالر ہے جسے رکن ممالک کے چندے سے پورا کیا جاتا ہے۔ اس بجٹ کا بائیس تا پچیس فیصد حصہ امریکا ، سولہ فیصد چین ، نو فیصد جاپان ، لگ بھگ چھ چھ فیصد جرمنی، برطانیہ ، فرانس اور ساڑھے تین تین فیصد اٹلی اور روس فراہم کرتا ہے۔ بجٹ کا ایک تہائی حصہ بین الاقوامی امن مشنز پر صرف ہو جاتا ہے۔ اقوامِ متحدہ کے ڈھانچے میں اصلاحات کی اشد ضرورت ہے۔ مگر اپنی تمام تر خامیوں کے باوجود اس سے زیادہ موثر عالمی ادارہ بھی اس وقت کرہِ ارض پر موجود نہیں۔
