I'M ONLY GOING TO SAY THIS ONCE
I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH, you can combine one 8oz can of pumpkin puree with one box cake mix (any kind but spice cake is best) and about 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, drop by tablespoon-ish onto a greased/parchment/silpat cookie sheet, and bake at 350F for 13-16 minutes
if there are no spices in either your cake mix or pumpkin puree i suggest adding warm spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves
THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT WANT THIS INFORMATION GETTING AROUND

Could I request Medic having The Mom Grip on Scout’s shoulder after the speedy moron almost let a mercenary secret slip while they weee getting groceries?

Three Europeans and two Americans walk into a grocery store in New Mexico.
I hope this is the right meme.
More silliness below.
This comic is the antithesis of the "wtf is a kilometre" joke.
The faces they make when they can't quite identify the type of brown bread in the bread aisle.

You don't know how [insert nationality here] you are until you go overseas and things are different.
Spy obviously has no problems with pretending to know how much a gallon of milk is, he just peeks into his conversion chart notes, pretending it's his shopping list.

I want to think Heavy is completely fine with having to readjust to a new unit system, he just eyeballs most practical things anyways by holding them up and mumbling about how they approximately weigh like a chicken or his kettle bell etc. He's always been living in practical ignorant bliss.
Tumblr media
Medic has a peer reviewed meltdown the first time he realises there's no uniformity in "a cup of ____" because every object has different densities. He's diligent about memorising the conversion rates for ounces, pounds, the most common things etc., and recovers ok. He goes through the same stages of grief rage when he finds out about distances and lengths.

Just remember four inches are 10.16 cm and pray no one asks you to specify anything bigger than inches.
Everyone does a mental victory lap when they manage to guess how much Celsius the weather is because they keep forgetting it's Celsius*5/9+32=Fahrenheit, Engineer reminds them patiently.
Tumblr media
The true victories are the correct temperature guesses we've made along the way.
One time, a friend asked me if I actually knew how much a tablespoon of flour was in gramms to convince me that metric users also make use of volume based units without thinking about them. But little did she know a heaped spoonful of 405 flour is about 15g and a level tablespoon is 10g.

They claim Oolong just tastes better when it's boiled to 80°C exactly with a Bunsen burner.
You only asked for one scene but somehow I came up with a bunch of other things. This post was drawn across 2 months so the artstyle is all over the place. Thanks for your ask!

Not to sound like a tradwife or anything but I genuinely believe that everyone should learn how to make bone broth (or, as I affectionatly call it, scrap stew). I'm not gonna call it an easy or simple recipe because you do have to let it simmer for 11 hours and strain it, but if you have a day off to make it its relatively low-effort and cost-efficient and also is a great base for upping the nutritional value of simple foods like cup ramen or plain rice when you're in a pinch for time, as well as cutting down on veggie waste (anything starting to wilt or scraps like carrot peelings can be tossed in there and still make a good broth)

in 2021 i tried to make rhubarb jelly and flower jelly out of red clover and pineappleweed. unfortunately i fucked up my pectin and the flower jelly didn't set at all while the rhubarb jelly set way too soft. the rhubarb jelly was still salvageable enough to can so not a total loss. in 2022 i tried to make dandelion jelly but overcompensated after the last disaster and fucked up my pectin in the opposite direction, resulting in a dandelion jelly that is almost a gummy. i mean i still use it but this is Not correct. in 2023 i did not bother making jack shit because i still have all this fucked up jelly i need to eat and i was tired. this year i am determined to try again but i will admit that my track record does not inspire confidence.

Knitting a freehand bag and started wondering how often people even use patterns, anyway. So--how often do you use a pattern when you make things ? This include knitting/crochet/sewing/weaving/nalbinding/bobbin lace/tatting/etc but also things like woodworking, cooking, and baking. If you want to just pick the thing you do most often that's fine.
I personally do not use patterns as I find them far more confusing than just figuring out the construction of an item and simply making it. I do very occasionally browse ravelry for inspiration but have downloaded maybe 2. In the 5 or so years since I joined. And have followed exactly 1, which I modified every single aspect of. In my defense, dyslexia.

It gets better
You're burning rice now, and the vegetables you sauté only come out half-cooked
You're almost afraid to go into the kitchen at all because that was your mother's domain, not yours
You don't want to dirty more dishes
You don't want to waste more ingredients
How does this appliance work? Where's the instructions? Why aren't they clear enough?
You can't dice tomatoes; they squish into pulp and you have to toss them
You can't make bread; it's too dense, too hard, and you can't make yourself eat it, even though you feel obligated to
You're afraid to turn the beater on, because remember last time? Where you messed up?
It gets better
Someday, you'll make your best friend a bunch of mini quiches so she has a quick breakfast whenever she wants
Someday, you'll make double servings of your favorite food from memory
Someday, you'll accidentally make gelatin that's still got heat from the last time that pan cooked peppers, and you'll learn a little more about how spice works
Someday, you'll improvise a recipe you've never even tried unaltered before, and you'll make a perfect pumpkin cheesecake
And the cookies will be a little too hard, and you'll lament not eating them as dough
And you'll forget about the half & half you asked for, and have no idea what you want to do with it
And you'll linger on your failures less and less, because that cheesecake turned out perfectly
It gets better
Keep trying

Forbidden knowledge to make your life infinitely better and more dangerous.
If you own a hand mixer of any variety, or a whisk and tremendous forearm strength, you can make your own ice cream of any variety, whenever you want.
2 cups whipping cream (or heavy cream, they’re the same thing) 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk A splash of vanilla Literally whatever you want to add. Mint, chocolate chips, nutella, strawberries, cocoa powder, I do mean literally anything
Beat the cream until it’s a firm/stiff whipped cream. Fold it into the sweetened condensed milk (chill the condensed milk if you like beforehand, it can make the freezing faster), add the vanilla and mix-ins. Then dump it in a container and freeze until your desired consistency. That’s it.
Go forth and regret everything, my friends. Ice cream is just a few hours away.

one thing that is kinda wild to notice is the way fic seems to have gotten a shorter and shorter lifespan over the years. granted, i only have my own anecdotal experience to go by, and there's plenty of factors that can contribute to that, but it's wild because like i remember posting fic in like 2015 would get so much more engagement over time than posting fic today. in 2015 if i posted something i generally would get comments and interaction with it for a week or so before it tapered off into obscurity. today, its like. you post a fic and after 24 hours its dead in the water. odd.

I’m sorry to have an influencer moment on here but I’m not lying when I say that these Tomato Cheddar Toasts from NYT cooking are hands down one of the best meals I have ever cooked for myself in my entire life (and I’ve been cooking daily for like 12 years lol) and they take like five minutes, most of which is spent waiting for the bread to toast. The recipe is paywalled so I’ll just say you take cheddar cheese and shred it on the tiniest side of your box grater/microplane, then mix together a 1:1 ratio of mayo and cheddar. Then when the bread is piping hot from being toasted you spread it on there (like a tbsp or two per bread) and the heat causes them to melt together into this insane creamy tangy spread. Then top with tomatoes and salt.
I have been eating tomato toasts almost every day this summer and I thought I had my formula down pat, but then I tried these and it changed my world. Genuinely a contender for last meal on earth if I had to choose. I have eaten it with every single meal since I got back from my backpacking trip except one bc I was invited to a potluck. I know my username might make you think I’m just overzealous but please for the love of god if you eat dairy and gluten and love tomatoes (and have access to some good ones) I am begging you to try this. On the left is the recipe pic and on the right is one of the ones I made. and like it doesn’t matter if no one tries this I just want this in my tomato tag to commemorate this unbelievable toast because I’m in a new era of my life for real
