Just needed to share this line I just wrote for a Malex fic because it made me scream as I was writing it
“Jesse Manes had given him many a beating, but for Alex Manes, Michael would fetch the whip himself.”

I'm rewatching Malex scenes cause I miss the hell out of them and I decided to share my new ranking of Top Five Malex Scenes:
V • 4.02
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love this scene because it shows growth in Michael we haven't really seen before with Alex. The trust he put in him was amazing and I just love that so much.
IV • 3x10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oooh this SCENE. Calling him Alexander, reaffirming that they are HOME to each other. And the scene after- it was simply perfection.
III • 1x01
Tumblr media
The scene that started my obsession with Malex, and the one that made me start watching RNM in the first place. I don't know if I've said it before but one of my favorite scenes for my ships is a forehead touch, and these two not only gave me that, but also longing, pain and somehow, peace. I will never be over it.
II • 3x03
Tumblr media
Unfortunate beanie aside (yes I'm bitter they didn't give a better one, that actually covered his ears ffs), I still can't watch this one without tearing up. The whole scene was perfection in how Alex managed to call out Michael for his self deprecation, but also managed to finally get it through his thick skull that Alex CARES- and he cares A LOT.
Annnnnnd Finally:
I • 1x12 Prison Scene
Tumblr media
I will NEVER SHUT UP ABOUT THIS SCENE. The show is probably gonna end with this one at the top of this list. I remember watching it and not believing what was happening, because it was so raw and real and heartbreaking. I could write a whole essay about this scene, but I won't cause this post is long enough.
I will say this though: Alex's rescue better top the angst/heartbreak/love in this scene.

SaL anon here bestie and I'm sick of attempting to organize my life in boxes so I'm taking a salt break, because while I wholeheartedly agree that the S4 premiere was infinitely better than any other season premiere (excluding S1 of course) I have some issues, especially regarding the Malex storyline. I mean the scenes were fantastic and Tyler and Vlamis always take any trash their given and take it to the next level (Michael's face when he heard the gazebo break was pure 😭😭😭😭😭) but a lot
of things about it pissed me off. The fact that the other couples got soft/cutsie storylines buy Malex got the angsty/almost breakup storyline (let Malex be happy writers, we are TIRED), the fact that they regressed Michael to his S1 mindset (also writers stop ignoring entire seasons of development for characters to push dumb plots), the fact that the amazing interaction between Michael and Dallas was undercut by the fact Michael did NOT take his advice (writers I know you don't  remember events between episodes but that conversation happened 10 minutes before Michael saw Alex ffs). However I want to talk about most egregious offense, which is basically there is NO WAY Michael Guerin would have broken the gazebo using the scenario they gave us. First of all, you cannot tell me that when Michael learned Alex had a precious childhood relic he built with his Mom (you know that would hit him hard) the first thing he did wasn't immediately go to his workshop  build an indestructible alien glass case for it, go back to Alex's, put the gazebo in the case, and then install earthquake proof/tornado proof/ everything proof shelving to put the case on. And then he would fix, the garbage disposal. Any other scenario is bullshit. Next, even if we buy that he addressed the disposal first, there's no way Michael, professional mechanic for half his life, sat at a rickety table where his soulmate's precious relic was, equipment spread out  everywhere like a college student with their first tool set they bought from CVS, fighting a screwdriver when he could use his TK, and with a wrench placed precariously (like comically so) above said childhood relic. I mean, we got that sad little Michael face (again 😭😭😭😭😭) which was soo much, but I still call bullshit.
This is late because of vacation reasons but I’m always down to be a salty bench! So, watching the episode the first time the scenario was more believable because Vlamis fucking sells it. NO ONE is our here doing the glassy eyes/kicked puppy look like him (except for Oliver Stark). But mostly I think, as always, RNM is still suffering from the way they dragged things out with Malex originally. Using stupid side relationships for drama instead of addressing the ACTUAL reasons these two were kept apart, and the trauma responses they have much earlier on ends up with now having to revert one of them (usually Michael) back to The Before Times. And yeah, healing isn’t linear and of course something like moving and getting everything he ever wanted is going to be triggering for Michael! But since we didn’t ever get to see him and Alex really digging in and addressing this stuff before now, it feels almost like an endless cycle of Michael spiraling and Alex brushing it off. Season 3 really did them dirty by refusing to address the elephant in the room (season 2 and m*ria) and having them at each other’s throats until they were magically back together without really hashing things out. And that *might* have worked if they decided they wanted to be together and then hashed things out later, but they didn’t. It was just sort of brushed off as “they’re together now, aren’t you fans happy?” And yeah, I’m happy they’re together but the compelling part of their story, the healing and catharsis got skipped over so it’s never going to be as satisfying as it should have been.
Also, again as always, they forget their own mythology! We saw Michael take apart and put together an incredibly intricate handmade clock full of tiny cogs and springs and alien parts! You’re telling me he couldn’t fix that gazebo good as new? Or, like you said, that he wouldn’t have made an indestructible case for something so precious to Alex? Or moved it out of the way? Or used his powers to help fix the disposal? And I will absolutely buy him being too flustered and upset to think straight for this whole thing! It does make sense that at least SOME of those things could have happened. The argument can be made on how this all makes sense, and what Michael’s state of mind was, and how his trauma responses make what happened perfectly logical, however at this point after ALL the crap they have thrown at Malex and how they keep undercutting their own narrative, and keep regressing the characters (LITERALLY Echo’s every conversation is a flavor of the same argument), it’s a lot harder to want to give any leeway.
It was also definitely frustrating that Echo got a “when is the best time to propose” plot, while Malex got an “I immediately fucked up and Alex is probably going to kick me out and hate me” plot, but again, Echo are also still having the same basic conversation they always have so it’s not like it’s that much better for them? *deep sigh* the wasted potential for this show will never fail to frustrate me.

19th of October, 1945
The war was over. Paris had been liberated for over a year, but the war itself had only been over for 5 months. Michael and Alex had recently returned to their city, to find it miraculously undamaged and their flat only marginally ransacked. They’d never had much valuables anyway. They cleaned up their flat, settled back into their lives and it was almost as if the war hadn’t happened.
Alex and Michael had waited out the war in the countryside, living with a large farming family who treated them like their own. In the last year before the liberation, a young child who’d lost both her parents in the camps joined them, and Michael and Alex became her surrogate parents. When they returned to Paris, she came with them.
Alex was looking at her sleeping now, his darling girl, the beautiful and genius Mara. If he hadn’t known she wasn’t related to them, he would’ve sworn she was Michael’s kid. Cheeky, optimistic, chaotic and infinitely smarter than him. Alex loved her so much it ached to look at her now.
It was 4AM. The house was quiet and dark, the autumn chill already creeping in through the windows and the cracks. Alex shivered, gave his daughter one last look and returned to his own bedroom, to his husband in their bed. He crawled back under the covers and pressed himself against Michael, who was always warm and chased away the night chill. Michael jerked awake with a hiss. “Jesus Christ, Alex.”
“Sorry,” Alex muttered, buried his cold nose in Michael’s neck.
“You okay?” Michael asked softly, flipping over and wrapping his arms around Alex. “Why were you out of bed?”
“It’s been ten years.”
Michael looked at the clock on his nightstand and let out a long breath. “It has.”
Alex closed his eyes and curled into Michael’s chest. It was the reason he’d woken up so suddenly. His nightmares only rarely brought him back to that fateful train ride anymore, but tonight they’d come back with a vengeance. On the day Noah Bracken was murdered, setting events in motion that eventually led to Alex letting 8 people get away with murder. “Do you regret it?” It was a question they always asked each other around the 19th.
“No,” Michael said, his voice trembling a little. “Never. None of us,” Alex knew Michael meant the 8 passengers with whom he had committed the crime, “would’ve been able to move on if we hadn’t done it.” Alex nodded. “Do you regret letting us get away with it?”
“No,” Alex said, without hesitation. “Noah Bracken was a monster. He deserved punishment, and the system wouldn’t deliver. You did. It wasn’t just, but it was right.” He sighed, wrapping his arms around Michael and squeezing tightly. “But it’s something I will always have to live with.”
Michael nodded, pressing a kiss to his forehead. “Yeah. Me, too.”
Alex looked up at his husband, his heart melting when their eyes met. The ten years since the Orient Express had been kind to him. The curls were still as wild as ever, Michael had even grown them out more, providing Alex with plenty of hair to run his hands through. His eyes were filled with warmth, love and laughter. There were small wrinkles in the corners of his eyes now, and those on his forehead reflected the worries and burdens he’d had to bear these past ten years.
They’d both grown up. Both seen and done stuff they carried with them forever. But they’d fought for their love and their life and they’d won. They’d survived the war and even managed to raise a child together.
“You know, when all is said and done, I’m grateful for that train ride,” Alex said, nudging Michael’s nose with his own.
“What do you mean?” Michael asked softly, nipping Alex’s lips with his.
Alex pressed a kiss to his husband’s mouth and smiled. “Because it brought us back together. Despite the terrible things that happened there, we found each other again. I never thought I’d see you again, and then I stepped on board that train and there you were. You were haunted by the ten years since we’d last seen each other, troubled by the horrible crime you were about to commit. But still beautiful. You were cold and distant, and yet I knew instantly I had never stopped loving you.”
Michael nodded. “I instantly knew that the plan was doomed, when I saw you. I knew I wouldn’t be able to lie to you for too long. For ten years, I loved you from afar and suddenly, there you were, in the most critical moment of my life.” He shook his head. “I’m still impressed with myself I lasted as long as I did.”
Alex laughed. “Well, you never actually told me anything. I figured most things out by myself.”
“You were scarily accurate, I was so proud.”
“The world is built on logic – ”
“ – one just needs to learn to see it,” Michael finished with a smile. “You are still insufferably modest.” Alex just shrugged and snuggled close to his husband again. “I love you, Alex Guerin.”
Alex’s stomach did a summersault, as it did every time Michael called him by his full name. He’d left the ‘Manes’-name behind long ago, but hearing his married name spoken with so much love and adoration that Michael always put into it, always made him giddy. “I love you, too, Michael Guerin.”
Michael leaned in for a kiss, the two of them entwined together in their bed. The kiss started out chaste and loving, but as Alex pulled Michael’s hips against his own, it turned hungry fast. Michael groaned, and Alex felt a burning longing to draw out more lovely sounds. With one swift movement, he pushed Michael on his back and climbed on top of him. Alex pinned Michael’s hands against the pillow beneath him and dove in for another hungry kiss. He pressed his hips down into Michael, drawing out another sweet moan from his throat. “Alex, please,” Michael whined when Alex broke their kiss to trail his lips down Michael’s throat. “Please, my love…”
“I like it when you beg,” Alex murmured, playfully biting at his husband’s earlobe.
“I like it when you get me off,” Michael growled, bucking his hips to cause some more friction between them. Alex gasped and Michael looked victorious. Alex sat up, his hands braced on Michael’s chest. Michael’s hands immediately found purchase on Alex’s hips.
They were both still fully clothed, and that was unacceptable. With a swift motion, Alex got rid of Michael’s shirt and then his own, letting his hands roam appreciatively over Michael’s chest. No matter how often Alex looked upon his naked husband, he never became any less attractive. “God, you’re gorgeous.”
“Yes, yes,” Michael said impatiently, arching off the bed when Alex playfully flicked a nipple. “Now, please, Alex!” He sounded absolutely wrecked, and Alex grinned. They hadn’t even started yet.
Alex bent down and trailed kisses from the hollow of Michael’s throat all the way down to the waistband of his pyjamas. “Don’t move, Michael. You know the drill.” Grabbing hold of the pants, he began, slowly, torturously, pulling the pants down, trailing kissing on newly exposed skin as he went. Michael was panting heavily, his hands fisted in the sheets as he tried to keep himself from grabbing Alex’s hair and kissing him senseless. Alex grinned against the inside of Michael’s thigh, lightly scraping his teeth against the sensitive skin there, causing Michael to shiver. He looked up to see Michael biting his lip to restrain himself, and Alex tutted, sitting up and pulling Michael’s lip from between his teeth. “None of that,” Alex chided, letting a single finger absentmindedly slide up Michael’s cock, with only the lightest of touches. “You know I want to hear you.”
“You fucker,” Michael growled, “God, please, I can’t take it, please, Alex, god damnit, fuck…”
Alex laughed, leaning over to the nightstand to grab the bottle of lube stashed there. He sat back up and moved to sit between Michael’s legs, who spread them eagerly. “Look at you,” Alex whispered. “So eager.”
“Fuck you,” Michael spat, his eyes half-closed with pleasure. Alex enjoyed Michael’s absolutely filthy mouth when Alex was toying with him like this. He knew Michael was enjoying this as much as Alex was.
“I think I’d rather fuck you today,” Alex said, coating two fingers in lube. He bent over Michael, pressed a small kiss to the tip of his weeping cock and then took him in his mouth. Michael let out a string of curses and threw his head back. While Alex was sucking him off, he spread his ass a little wider and gently pushed a single finger inside him. Michael groaned as he felt Alex enter him.
Alex watched his husband closely, watching the familiar and wildly attractive look of ecstasy come over his face. He gently began pushing his finger in and out, allowing Michael to adjust to the presence and waiting as long as needed before pushing the second finger inside as well. Michael let out a wrecked sob, music to Alex’s ears. He hollowed his cheeks around Michael’s cock, and Michael gave a strangled yell. “That’s it,” Alex whispered, letting Michael’s cock pop from his mouth, “let me hear you, my darling.”
“Alex,” Michael whined, looking absolutely wrecked as Alex pushed his fingers into Michael again and again. “Please, I’m ready, please, please, my love…” Michael’s face was flushed with pleasure and despair, Alex felt his own cock throb, desperate to fuck his husband. But he wasn’t going to do anything before he was sure Michael was well and truly ready. So he picked up the lube, dribbled more on his hand and then gently added a third. Michael sobbed. “I love you, I love you, I love you, please, Alex…” he babbled, his head thrashing against the pillow, and Alex knew he was ready.
He fished a condom out of the nightstand and hastened to put it on himself. “Alright, my darling,” Alex whispered, leaning over Michael to kiss him softly, “I got you.”
Michael raised his hips, his entire body begging for Alex to just fuck him already. Alex lined himself up and slowly pushed into Michael, allowing him time to adjust. Michael let out a long, drawn-out moan that made Alex nearly come on the spot. “Oh baby,” Michael croaked out, “Alex…please…move.” He jerked his hips and Alex hissed, pleasure shooting up his spine. Alex obeyed, pulling out and pushing back in, finding a rhythm they had perfected over the last decade, that he knew would unravel Michael faster than anything else. “Yes…” Michael moaned, reaching up to grab Alex’s head and pull him down. Their mouths crashed together, and they kissed sloppily, between moans and heavy breaths, as Alex sped up his movements gradually. “I love you,” Michael whispered, wrapping his arms around Alex and burying his face in Alex’s shoulder. Alex let his head drop against Michael’s shoulder in return, trying to hold off his own orgasm. But he was close. And he could tell Michael was as well.
“I love you,” Alex whispered. Michael’s hips jerked, sending a thrill of pleasure through Alex, making him gasp and bite down on Michael’s neck. Michael groaned. “Come on, baby,” Alex urged him. “Come for me, I want to feel you come for me.” He reached down and wrapped a hand around Michael’s cock. Michael jerked, his hands flying into Alex’s hair.
“So – so close,” he panted. His eyes were locked on Alex, and they looked at each other intently as they drove each other to the brink. Soft ah, ah, ah’s slowly turned to high-pitched whines and soon enough, Michael exploded underneath Alex’s expert ministration. Alex didn’t slow down, but fucked through Michael’s orgasm, now chasing his own. Michael let his hands roam down Alex’s back and grabbed his ass, pulling him even closer. Alex lost all control. Growling, he sped up, so close, wanting…needing. “Come for me, Alex Guerin,” Michael whispered, and that was that on that. For a second, everything went white as he came, shuddering, his arms giving out and falling, wrecked, on top of his husband, who caught him effortlessly.
They lay together, panting, for several minutes, Alex still inside of Michael, neither feeling any inclination to move. “God, that was amazing,” Michael finally said, drawing a laugh from Alex. “It’s like you get better every time.”
“You make me want to be better. Watching you come apart beneath me is…highly arousing.” Alex finally extracted himself from Michael’s embrace, pulling on his bathrobe and padding over to the bathroom to dispose of the condom and clean himself up. He returned with a warm, damp towel and he cleaned Michael best he could, despite the man’s genuine dislike of moving after sex. When they were both a semblance of clean, Alex fell into bed again, wrapping his arms around Michael and closing his eyes. There was light on the horizon, signalling that the day was about to start, but neither felt the need. Friday was their day off, and they wouldn’t have to move until Mara demanded breakfast.
The events of that one week ten years ago would always be a part of them. October would always be a difficult month. But they had each other, they had Mara, they’d made a life for themselves, as good, upstanding citizens. Life wasn’t always easy, but Alex felt that with his husband and his daughter there with him, he could handle anything.
So Alex snuggled closer to Michael and closed his eyes, knowing the nightmares wouldn’t come back today.
He fell asleep, content and happy, with Michael right there next to him. Side by side.
Where they belonged.

Before Magnus had met Alex Fierro, his free days outside of Valhalla and the whole save-the-world missions would include a fun trip to Fadlan’s Falafel with Sam or with his parents-per-choice, Blitz or Hearthstone. Or he would meet up with Annabeth and enjoy having his brain roasted by whatever was going on with the Greeks. Or he would spend a nice day alone in a park and enjoy his life as a dead person.
However, his plans this summer were most likely going to kill him. Again.
When Alex opened the door to her room, warm sunlight was gleaming on her hair from behind, weaving some kind of halo that outlined her dark green curls.
“Hi. Alex.” Magnus cleared his throat and shifted his weight nervously from one foot to the other. She was wearing a pastel green dress that was flowing carelessly around her knees, traced with a cute soft pink lace.
“Did you come to stare at me?” She asked with a rather unimpressed voice, looking at him pointedly, before slowly moving to close the door again.
Yup. He was so going to die.
“No, wait.” Magnus managed to shove his foot between the door and the frame, followed by a sharp pain that burnt up to his ankles in no time. “Ouch!”
Alex slowly pulled the door open again and sighed. “What do you want, then?”
“Do you happen to have time tomorrow? I want to grab some ice cream, and Sam is busy collecting souls, so I thought I’d ask you.”
Actually, the only reason Sam would be busy collecting souls was that he had asked her if it was okay if he used that phrase on Alex, but technically, he hadn’t lied. Sam was strictly against lying and promised him to make sure to look out for souls tomorrow.
“You’ve got the whole of floor 19, and you ask me? What has gotten into you, Beantown?” Alex cocked her head and grinned at him.
Okay then. Looked like it was about time to pull his last card.
He took a deep breath. “TJ managed to hook up Mallory with Halfborn – well, actually he just got them to send time together alone, but we all know they’re gonna hook up. And TJ himself is gonna be busy spying over them to ensure it happens. And to make sure that he’ll be able to tell us what happened later.” Actually, it had been him convincing TJ to do it. But still, he didn’t lie.
Alex laughed. “That’s a nice time alone, then.”
Her laugh was as harmonious as molten caramel, and Magnus couldn’t help but smile. “So, are you coming? I’m paying,” he said.
“Free ice cream? Hell yes I’m in,” Alex said, still grinning.
Magnus nodded, and smiled, and pushed a strand of hair behind his ear. He was already turning to leave when the words slipped out of his mouth. “Are you going on a date?”
He probably should have been a little more specific, but Alex got it anyways. She always did.
“Because of the dress? Girls don’t need to have a reason to dress up nicely, Beantown. I just usually don’t wear this when I’m about to kill someone. Don’t wanna get any blood on this.”
“Oh. Okay.” Magnus nodded again, but a million-pound-weight seemed to get lifted off his shoulders.
Alex grinned the most devilish of smiles. “Does that mean you think I’m pretty, Maggie?”
Magnus felt the blood rising to tint his cheeks with the colour of cherry blossoms, and he didn’t answer her, because he felt like his trapped facial expression was all of an answer she needed.  He cleared his throat once more. “I’m gonna pick you up at 3pm tomorrow, alright?”
Alex still smiled at him, but it was softer now, and warmer. When she spoke, her voice wove threads of golden light around his too-fast beating heart. “Alright.”
When Magnus knocked on Alex’ door the next day, she took a while to answer. As she finally pulled the door open and gave him a little wave, she was looking somewhat guilty.
No, Magnus corrected himself, he was looking somewhat guilty.
“Hi,” he started, but Alex didn’t answer, and that was pretty much all it took to leave Magnus completely helpless without a single clue about that to do next. It wasn’t that he was introverted or socially anxious. It was just that Alex usually barely shut her mouth.
Not knowing what to say, he scanned Alex’ appearance. His hands weren’t covered in clay today, and his hair as less messy than usual, so he counted that as a win. Other than that, Alex wore a soft pink hoodie with a green T-Shirt peeking out from underneath, and the usual dark green skinny jeans.
Alex didn’t snap at him for staring at him yet, so he chose to try and lighten up his mood. “Oh my god. So you are going to kill someone today?” He asked, cocking his head to one side and grinning up at Alex.
Alex didn’t smile back, and shifted uncomfortably. “No, Beantown,” he answered, but it didn’t sound half as sassy as it used to. “Just, I’m a guy today, and I didn’t really feel like wearing a dress.”
Magnus shrugged. “Fair enough.”
“You don’t seem surprised,” Alex frowned, but he did push the door further open.
“I knew,” Magnus answered and mirrored the frown. “So, uh, do you want free ice cream or no?”
Alex pushed him aside as he stepped out of a door and shut it behind them. “I can pay for myself, you know,” he hissed, but it sounded pretty half-hearted.
Magnus sighed. Something was off with Alex, and he guessed that if he tried to comfort him, a broken nose would be the most positive result. “Yeah, but I’m gonna pay, so you shut up.”
“Damn, Magnus, you really know how to treat a guy, eh?” Alex teased him as they made their way out of Valhalla towards Boston.
Magnus blushed, and he didn’t manage to find a cool and sassy answer, so he just stuck his tongue out.
It didn’t really bother him that Alex was a guy today. On the other hand, yes, it did.
The thing was, Magnus had never really wondered about Alex’s sexuality. It hadn’t taken a lot of time for him to crush head over heels for her when they had first met – one would say he lost his head, actually. And that feeling didn’t change on days Alex identified as a boy, because it was still Alex fucking Fierro, whether Alex was male or female. She managed to look cute and hot at the same time when she was female, and the only thing able to top her appearance and her stunning eyes was her personality. And when he was male, he still managed to look cute and hot at the same time, and his personality still drew Magnus in mercilessly.
He had never asked himself whether Alex’s sexuality was fluid as well, or if he/she was only into one gender, or two, or more. Or whether he/she felt romantic or sexual attraction at all. But, by all those fucking gods, he sure hoped that his Kurt Cobain haircut and the lame t-shirts were in some way attractive to Alex Fierro.
(That totally wasn’t the reason he wore a black dress shirt over the dark green Hotel Valhalla shirt, or spent hours trying to apply subtle black eyeliner on the waterline of his eyes, obviously. He wasn’t trying to look cool and mysterious, like, at all.)
He wondered if Alex had realised he had basically asked him out on a date. He wasn’t wearing super fancy clothes exactly, but then again, they were going out for ice cream. That wasn’t exactly a super fancy occasion either.
“Hey, what do you think Mallory and Halfborn are up to right now?” Magnus asked, trying to break Alex’ rare shy behaviour and his own nervousness over whether the Hel this was a date or not.
And it worked. Alex turned his head to him and grinned, hands buried in the pockets of his skinny jeans. “Knowing Mallory, they’re probably trying to kill each other. Which is just about the perfect date, if you ask me.”
Magnus gulped. Yeah, he probably should have been more considerate of Alex’ interests before asking him out for ice cream. “What about nice things?”
“Who the hell would want to do nice things with me? Do I look like a nice person to you?” Alex laughed, a sound that made Magnus’ heart jump up and down excitedly three times in a row. Alex’ smile made his skin tingle in a funny way and dip his whole body in a comfortable warmth.
Magnus smiled back. “You don’t seem that bad to me,” he admitted, and he watched Alex’ expression going from surprise to a sly grin to a rather sheepish smile, before he hastily turned his face away from him and ruffled through his green  wavy hair.
“That doesn’t count. You always want to do nice stuff.” Alex murmured.
Magnus laughed, though his cheeks blushes. “Is that supposed to be an insult?”
“I don’t know.” Alex shrugged, but when he looked at him again, he smiled. “I’ll tell you once I find out.”
Needless to say, Magnus’ heart did a few backflips and finished gracefully with a lot of tumbling and stuttering. Yup, he most likely was going to die.
“Two scoops, one strawberry, one mind please,” Magnus said to the bored looking lady behind the counter. He could sense Alex slowly turning his head to stare at him.
“On its way,” the lady answered and took an ice cream cone.
While she was busy, Magnus faced Alex with a frown. “What?”
Alex deadpanned him. “You choose,” he started, making a dramatic pause, “fucking strawberry and mint?”
Magnus cocked his head to one side. “What’s wrong with strawberry and mint? It’s delicious!” He almost felt personally insulted by that comment. He freaking loved strawberry with mint.
Alex’ stare turned into a definite are you fucking kidding me as he gestured at himself and his variety of pink and green clothes.
When the ice cream lady handed Magnus his cone, he finally made it out. “Oh.”
Alex rolled his eyes, but the corners of his lips switched upwards, even though he tried to keep a straight face. Then, he turned to the ice cream lady. “Do you happen to have any kind of blue ice cream in stock?”
Magnus gasped, to which Alex only answered with a teeth-baring grin.
A little bit of ice cream had somehow ended up at the corner of Alex’ lips. (They had had blue ice cream, after all, much to Magnus’ indignation.) They had both finished their cones, and had just left the shop when Magnus noticed.
Slowly, he moved his hand to brush it away, smiling to himself. Then, Alex started to smirk, and Magnus blushed. “Er – sorry.”
Alex lifted one eyebrow and cocked his head. His lips were curved perfectly, with a stupid cupid’s bow of the softest stupid shade of pink ever, and his eyes were sparkling with just the right mixture of teasing and fondness.
Magnus was suddenly aware of his own beating heart. He took Alex’ hand in his, surprised by the warmth of it, and he leant forwards slowly, his eyes constantly flickering back and fro between his eyes and his stupidly attractive grin because he needed to see if Alex would pull away.
He didn’t.
The kiss turned his whole world upside down, and it was his first kiss ever and he was a nervous fucking mess, and his heart stopped for a second when Alex’ lips started to move against his own.
After just a few seconds, Alex pulled away, a hunted look on his face as he stared at Magnus. His heart clenched painfully.
“You – you know I’m a guy today, right?” Alex shifted uncomfortably, as if he was trying to hide himself behind his sweater.
So this was what it all was about. Magnus gave Alex an exasperated glare as he finally understood. This wasn’t about Alex not wanting to go out with Magnus when he was male. This was about Alex being scared that Magnus might not want to go on a date with him when he was male.
“Idiot,” Magnus blurted out and raised his hands in a gesture that meant to say I had no idea you were so fucking stupid but I also really like you and want to take your fears away. Yeah, no, there was no way Alex would get that. “I just wanted to kiss you!” he finally concluded, his voice a little louder than probably necessary, but he was excited and happy and nervous and he couldn’t believe Alex actually thought that his gender would change anything.
Alex still stared at him, but his cheeks coloured with a soft pink shade, and his sparkling eyes were suddenly suspiciously wet.
Magnus broke out into a huge, goofy smile. “Does that mean you don’t mind me kissing you?”
Alex hastily blinked his tears away and tried to remain cool, but he really, really didn’t manage it. “I bet I’m gonna regret this, but I actually don’t,” he said, trying to keep his voice slightly disinterested, but his eyes, golden honey and soft chocolate, trailed off to his lips, and before Magnus had quite processed what he said or did, Alex pulled him close, without any hesitation, and his movements were determined but gentle.
When their lips met for the second time, Alex flung his arms around Magnus like his life depended on it. The way he combed his fingers through Magnus’ hair sent butterflies into his stomach and sparks inside his head, and Magnus just sort of melted against him, unable to do anything but to hold Alex Fierro within the soft embrace of his arms.
Alex’ lips tasted like honey and lemon. Magnus was barely capable of concentrating on anything else but the small electric strikes that exploded all over his body and left his head in a weird state of being completely empty and filled with a thousand thoughts and emotions at once.
Just as he began to wonder how it was possible to feel like hot cocoa and warm blankets and rain against his windows and Alex Fierro in his arms until they’d fall asleep together and being kind of turned on at the same exact moment, Alex pulled away once more, grinning as Magnus leaned in closer as he pulled back. Well, nobody could judge him. He just got kissed by Alex motherfucking Fierro. He could swear he could do anything at this point.
“Easy there, Beantown,” Alex whispered with a sly grin and tugged at one of the blond strands of hair that had fallen into his face.
Her fingers softly trailed his coloured cheeks, and Magnus felt like he should say something, but the only thing that came out was a rather huskily stammered “wow”.
Alex’ grin became even wider, even though his face was still heated. “So, what other nice things did you plan for today?”
“Um,” Magnus started, completely caught off guard. Did Alex even realise how ambiguous that sounded? He shook his head, laughing quietly. Alex had probably intended for it to sound like that. What a tease. “Wanna hang out in my room? The garden is pretty nice,” he said, and he meant it like that. The kiss had been pretty promising, but he didn’t intend to do anything else, not now. He had fantasized about what would happen if Alex would actually like him back, and they had always ended up under the tree in his garden, just two dead people on soft grass in the late warm afternoon sun.
“Geez, I knew I was going to regret this,” Alex answered, but he winked at him with a smile that took Magnus’ breath. “Come on, then. You invited me on a date, you lead the way!”
Oh, well. He already was dead, after all.
A/N: Gaaah! It was so fun to write this. I was torn between sticking to my usual writing style and experimenting with a different one, so it ended up being a mixture of both. I hope you guys enjoyed it anyways :)
I haven’t read Ship of the Dead yet, but I already know their first kiss is going to happen differently, but I still wanted to write an oneshot to @ace-artemis-fanartist ’s art. I also found out that they have a “so you think I’m pretty?” scene similar to the one above, and I think it’s super funny as I wrote it weeks before the book came out!
Also, I’d like to add a few words on Alex. I just want to make sure it doesn’t look like I’m trying to express Alex’ gender through her/his clothes - I just really wanted her to wear a dress, since Uncle Rick mentioned her dresses in Hammer of Thor, but we never got to read about her in one of those (again, I haven’t read SotD yet). I used to identify as genderfluid (and am still figuring out wtf is my gender), and my gender expression changes from time to time, so please be assured that I’m not trying to be an ignorant asshole here!
I also really wanted to show the more sensitive side of Alex we got to catch a glimpse of in tHoT - I love her being confident about her gender, but I think she suffers then and now, and that being with Magnus is actually a huge step for her.
If you’ve got any questions or think I was being insensitive in some points, please message me!

Michael joined a twitter space last night to talk about the episode. He mentioned that he and Tyler are frustrated as well with Malex going round in circles, their scenes basically being the same as they were in season one and two. That they constantly do different takes and bring different things to the table because of that basically. So if they they feel frustrates but after the season has finished filming they keep giving out positive things about us having hope for a reunion I'm gunna damn well believe them!!
Awww, that's so sweet of him to do! :D
Sadly, there doesn't seem to be a recording or a transcript of the chat, and you can't access spaces after they ended. I'd LOVE to listen to him talk about it (or at least know what exactly he said).
This is why time zones suck, all the good things ALWAYS happen while I'm asleep. 😩
But man, no wonder they are frustrated. Ngl, as good and entertaining S3 is so far (I truly enjoy it), but the glacial pace at which they move things forward with Malex is getting old. I mean, we know who STALLED™ them for 2 seasons, and would've likely stalled them for another 2, but I'll admit that with Chris running the show, I was hoping for more shared scenes up until this point at least.
I still think they've made progress, and I absolutely LOVED the scene with Michael's voice message and Alex finding the clock, I'm still giddy about SANDERS KNOWING (OMG, SANDERS, I'VE MISSED HIM SO MUCH!), but the going in circles is endlessly tiresome.
These are grown men, just let them talk ffs. 🙄
Anyway, I'm taking Vlammy's Twitter spree as a good sign, only one more Alex-less episode for the rest of the season, and I hope they are putting the remaining 6 episodes they are both in to good use and we'll get shared scenes in each of those 6 eps.
[No need to send me a million asks about it btw, I have a ton of them in my inbox already, and I don't want to lament about it any further. I'm focusing on the things I like, and I continue to believe that good things will happen this season.
BUT DAMN, SHOW, GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER, AND LET THEM ACT TOGETHER! GAH!]

So literally every one of your recent gifsets has made me pause and curse softly. I mean, I adore your gifsets in general(I have no sense for lyrics or poetry but you make me feel things, it's very odd in a good way) but I did not expect these to hit so hard. Mostly because while I definitely understand the draw for Miluca I still don't...want it, I guess. Mostly because all I can see is Maria getting hurt by his secrets, one way or another. I want her happy, in some ways more than I even 1/3
{Alex and Michael together.(which, I ship them so hard it’s weird for me. I actively want them to kiss onscreen and that’s usually a thing that I more suffer through. Reading it is fine, but seeing it - I don’t see the appeal. Except no, I see the appeal, of course they want to kiss each other. I would have watched the show on the strength of their relationship alone, for the novelty if nothing else) But Maria just - I don’t want her hurt and I can’t see a way to avoid that here. I’m against 2/3
[third part missing thanks to tumblr, ask continued after advertising on my blog]
Oh man dude that got out of hand very fast so honestly I don’t remember. (I just wanted to say I liked your gifsets and then I realized I was talking about why and that dovetailed with why I can’t really get behind Miluca even when I see things that make me like it) But yes it was because the third part was when I actually figured out the point. Highlights are that I don’t like Miluca(they’re both going to be hurt, I feel like, but Maria esp and I love her too much to want to see her hurt by ½
his secrets. Plus, I feel like Michael can only really move up or stay stagnant atm, Maria could go up or down and I fear a downswing is coming. I definitely think they’ve got an interesting dynamic, but I’d honestly be much more interested in that dynamic if they weren’t romantically involved, or even dancing around it) Also I like your gifsets because every relationship feels equally prominent and complex and compelling, even ones like Miluca that I normally just don’t want to deal with. 2/2}
———————————————————————————————————–
Whew. Anon that is a lot, but who am I to say anything lol. Also very glad you found me again! Welcome!
First of all, thank you for your very kind words about my sets. I’m beyond flattered, so
Second of all, big ass mood on the surprise at shipping them so hard. And for me hardcore SAME for Echo, which was a big shock because I’m usually not here for het as much as I am for Echo so like. Idk WHAT they’re putting in the water but. Go Roswell go!
Third of all, woof. This is like reading my own thoughts immediately after the finale, and I mean that literally. I try to stay more or less neutral on this subject, partially because I know it’s a contentious one and I try to have my blog be welcoming to everyone from the fandom who might want to see content and partially because I really don’t like to speculate overmuch ESPECIALLY with shows like this that can turn on a fucking dime, but. In the interest of reciprocity and because I am absolutely starved for new show content, I’m gonna step out from under my neutrality umbrella for a hot second.
I am an endgame Malex shipper. I don’t try to hide that. But the reason I am an endgame Malex shipper is one of the reasons I’m not all that bothered by Miluca, and that is that the way the narrative has been set up (from episode one) Echo and Malex are on squarely even footing. Literally the second meta post I ever did for this fandom was about parallels between the two, that’s how strongly it speaks to me. (I am very, very happy to do another upon request.) In my mind, Malex is as clearly endgame as Echo is. That’s just the way I see the storytelling.
The other reason I’m not all that bothered by it addresses your concern about Maria being hurt. Because honestly, I’m frustrated about that too. I really like Maria and I don’t love seeing her in a situation that I’m pretty certain is going to end badly. But here’s the thing. As much as I doubt Maria is going to end up with Michael (poor boy has to finish crashing from last season, someone please get him a hug and a therapist ffs), her involvement with him is also almost certainly going to blow the doors off her story.
We didn’t see her a lot in season one, not as character with an independent story line, and I think that’s going to change in season two. Mostly because we now know that her necklace, a family heirloom, contains the non-native flower whose pollen happens to subdue alien powers. And she suspects something is up with Michael’s hand. And there have been too many seeds planted about her mother’s undiagnosable decline from mental stability for me to sit there and NOT expect that to become relevant.
Basically, like Isobel, I think we’re going to get to see Maria stand on her own a lot starting in season two. And it’s going to come from the fact that Michael came to her in the Wild Pony at the end of the season one finale because he was finally at a place where he could step away from Alex. (Which I believe is a good thing, I’ve talked about that before.) I think it’s going to open her up and yeah, she’s probably going to get hurt. But frankly, so is everyone else.
Michael is going to crash and burn. Hard. Isobel is apparently dealing with all of her stuff from last season in not the healthiest of ways. Max up and fucking died and while I absolutely LOVE THAT (no really, I do), Liz isn’t gonna take that too well. Kyle has now found himself in the middle of quite the shit storm, so heaven help the poor man. Rosa is just. Well, fucked, basically. And Alex, as much as I love to see him having found himself, seems like he’s going to go a little too far in the other direction which is going to be fascinating.
All this to say, yeah. I super feel where you’re coming from. But I can’t see the ships in this show as isolated from each other, they are all interconnected in ways that very much affect and inform all the individual arcs and journeys for me. So I guess that’s why my sets come across the way they do lol. Thanks again for the lovely words anon, I hope you don’t mind me riffing off them.

I'm still trying to figure out what was meant by Chris saying that this season is something that has been building up for Malex since season 1. What do you think this means? Friendship, dating or something different? I honestly don't know what it could be.
🌸 Any thoughts? 🌸
From what I remember, he meant they were revisiting something that was started in S1, but was dropped, and considering season 2, it literally can be anything, BUT, here's my top 3 picks:
The 1x12 Caufield scene- from 1x13 onward, it felt like the Malex aspect of the scene was dropped and never spoken about again, which, considering it's my favorite scene, makes me mad lol
The drive in date- or just a date in general. These two need to go on a freaking date, ffs.
The 1x13 talk- I know CAM retconned the whole scene but I don't give a shit, I liked it and I think WHAT Alex said needs to be addressed.
These are the only ones that come to mind right now, but I'm sure as soon as I post, more will pop up.

post malex fanmix “It’s all in the past now”
Since the second season is already here, I decided to finally make the cover for this nearly a year old playlist. I dub thee the post malex fanmix.
Seems like the show is slowly wrapping this ship up. In any case, I hope that both of the characters will have had their fair share of happiness until the show’s finale, together or not. Pretty please?
The tracklist is kinda “medium rare”. I had some songs on my mind like Hurricane (the Fleurie’s one), Another Love and Someone You Loved FFS, buuut they didn’t feel quite right. A year later I think that maybe I should’ve picked something else, put tracks in a different order... still, I kept it as it was. Honestly, I think the main song here is “The Beach” even if it’s #4, lol.
Still can’t find an alternative to 8tracks and Spotify, sad-face.

I'm back on my bullshit after having disappeared for a week (end of the semester is coming for my life), but here is my incoherent shouting about 1x09:
-god Max is such a nerd and I fucking appreciate his taste in books
-Michael using his powers to pass the vial to Liz!!! They're becoming science pals!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-hey Malex making me sad five minutes in? Hell yeah baby!!!!
-oh my god Alex is also a fucking nerd quoting T.S. Eliot
-but also Alex just compared his relationship with Alex to the world and I am sad
-oh god I'm sorry to say this but the editing in this episode is really awkward
-I don't know enough about Native American culture to be able to tell if this is accurate or just very, very stereotypical, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt on the account of "they are doing this whole thing to rip white people off" which is valid
-I genuinely love Michael and Maria's interactions but I!!!!! Want them to be friends!!!!!!!!!!
-hey I have a crush on Maria Deluca just thought you guys should know
-hey at least Michael and Liz are actually becoming science besties, I!!! Happy!!!!!!
-I do appreciate Cam refusing to work with Jesse and deciding to collaborate with Alex instead
-I also appreciate her finding out about aliens and immediately getting a drink. Valid reaction
-Kyle WHAT THE FUCK. that was weirdly close to high school bully Kyle ffs
-that photo of Michael on the terrorist thing is so fucking funny wgsgsfdkdd
-oh okay adult, mature Kyle is back. also he's right!!!!! Just talk to Michael, Alex!!!!!!!!!
-oh, JESUS CHRIST. we knew it was coming but for god's sake
-I am just. I'm not gonna spend time talking about this unless people WANT me to,,,, I don't have the energy
-I like the parallel of Liz telling Max that she still knows him after ten years in like, episode 2, and Max doing the same thing episodes later
-FINALLY!!!! WE GOT A GOOD KISS OUT OF THIS EPISODE
-THEY'RE KISSING IN THE PLACE THEY WOULD HAVE YEARS AGO IF THINGS HADN'T GONE DOWNHILL I AM SO EMOTIONAL!!!!!!!!!!!!
- how did he,,,, not notice the giant necklace,,,,,,, in his GODDAMN BOOT,,,,,,,, like,,,,,,,,,,,,,, HOURS AGO
- ALEX DON'T YOU WALK AWAY JESUS
- YES ALEX YES!!!!!
-"and what do you want to say, Alex?" "that I loved you, and I think you loved me. For a long time" and Michael's exhaled "yeah" this is some!!!!! Good Shit!!!!!!!
-call him Michael you coward
-the hurt, sharpness in Michael's voice when he asks "do you want to know who I am, or what I am" I'm crying
-and Alex's teary, hesitant yes because he wants to know everything! He wants to know Michael and everything about him because he's also tired of secrets
-"there's a FOURTH ALIEN... in ROSWELL" she announced, surprising literally no one
so to summarise... we knew the Michael and Maria hook up was coming and I still think,,,, it was an awful idea writing wise,,,,,,,,,, but now it's done and I am genuinely curious to know how we're going to move forward from this, especially since it looks like Michael and Alex will be interacting a lot next episode

Fandoms You Write For:
Since I first started writing fanfic, Once Upon a Time, Merlin, Teen Wolf, Agent Carter, Star Wars, Supergirl, Critical Role, and now Roswell New Mexico.
Where You Post:
Some of my older stuff is on ff but now everything’s on AO3 and tumblr.
Most Popular Oneshot:
Heart and Soul(mates), my Supergirl one, with Lena and Kara with soulmate marks (my most fave trope).
Most Popular Multi Chapter Story:
Bowl of Stars- RNM S1 rewrite from Ghost!Rosa’s POV
Favorite Story You Wrote:
I think Bowl of Stars. It’s certainly the one I’ve spent the most time/effort on.
Story You Were Nervous to Post:
All of them? I’m always nervous for people to read my stuff. But since You Oughta Know was my first for RNM and pretty much broke my writer’s block, I’ll go with that one.
How Do You Pick Your Titles:
omfg, usually they are song titles, or lyrics from songs...
Do You Outline:
For the longer ones, yes. Bowl of Stars has to be outlined, at least within each chapter, because it needs to follow the flow of the episode, and I need to be able to keep track of where Rosa is in the story compared to everyone else at any given time. The Practical Magic AU is also outlined, since it’s going to be a long one (it’s at 11k rn and I’m maybe halfway done? idk idk idk). Shorter ones I usually just need the basic ideas of what I want to accomplish within, and then I just write it...
How Many of Your Stories are Complete:
All of the ones posted are. The last two episodes of Bowl of Stars are just waiting on a beta, but that one is done. I try not to post multichapter fics unless they are done because I don’t want to be That Person Who Abandons Their Fic And Disappoints Their Readers. BoS is the exception because I started it on a whim and decided to take it week by week to see if I could write a chapter for every episode.
In-Progress:
The Malex Practical Magic AU.
Stripper!Kyle (at the ideas/pre research phase)
another installment of give michael guerin a friend that focuses on Michael and Liz (at the ideas phase)
Coming Soon:
the PM AU! My goal is to finish writing by the 19th, so I can find a beta (maybe two) and get it ready to post by Halloween
(if someone wants to volunteer to beta, or just to bug me constantly until I get it done, lmk. i’m kind of worried i won’t be able to get it done on time)
Do You Accept Prompts:
i haven’t before, but if someone wants to send me a prompt, i could see what i can do? no promises, but i can try!
Upcoming Story You’re the Most Excited For:
Stripper!Kyle. For. Sure. My roommate has insisted we watch Magic Mike for research purposes, and then I can write stripper Kyle and then (hopefully) some Kyle/Isobel smut.
I feel like I’ve seen a lot of people already do this, so I’m not going to tag anyone. If you want to do it, you can say I tagged you!

I Won’t Hesitate (for you) Chapter 12
Chapter 12: What is lost will be found (when the truth hunts you down)
In this chapter: The truth.
A/n:  Oh my god guys. Here we are. I'm so nervous about this chapter because I am equally excited and nervous about your reaction to it! After this, there's only an epilogue left. Enjoy, and please let me know what you thought of it!
As always, a special thanks to Aileen (@acomebackstory), Callie (@callieramics), @hm-arn, @royalshadowhunter, @ladymajavader and May (@merlinss) over on Tumblr for their continued support and cheerleading. I don't know if I would've finished it without you guys!
@hmd23 guessed it, last week's chapter title was from Third Eye Blind again. Congratulations!
Can anyone guess this week's?

January, 1934
Liz Ortecho, now 23 and wise beyond her years, entered the little cabin she had rented, a newspaper clutched in her hand. They were living just outside of New York, trailing a ghost that refused to be found.
They’d travelled all across the country; starting from New Mexico, they went to San Diego, Sacramento and Seattle, travelling north past the Canadian border, even going so far as Calgary, before returning to the States to follow even the smallest hints of Rosa’s killed.
Five years they’d searched. Five years of barely any food, finding work wherever they could, and constant disappointment. They’d built up a steady network of informants, through a mix of bribery, good Samaritanism and flirting, but apparently Rosa’s murderer instilled fear in the hearts of men. Not many were willing to sell him out. Those who were, quickly dropped off the radar after that.
Liz knew she was being watched. She’d seen the shadows in the corner of her eye, the unremarkable cars in her rear-view mirror. She knew, if she ever got truly close, she’d probably end up dead. But she was determined and so were her travel companions. Rosa’s killer needed to be unmasked, taken off the board, or he’d kill again.
“I have news and you’re not going to like it!” Liz announced as she entered the tiny living room. The other two women immediately joined her at the table. Liz smacked down the paper, pointing at a small article, accompanied by a picture.
The immigrant man Sheriff Valenti had had to let go because of lack of proof. Looking fancy and happy, standing next to an absolutely gorgeous blonde young woman. “That’s him,” her friend said, her voice shaking, “that’s Rosa’s killer.”
“I’m pretty sure, too, yes. Sheriff Valenti was never able to get any proof, but…he’s the only suspect we have. Either we cross him off the list or we get the bastard. Either way, we need to find him.” Liz looked at the picture, her face hardening. “And he just made it extremely easy.”
The headline read:  Oil Mogul Noah Bracken (33) and noted event planner Isobel Evans (25) tie the knot in Malibu.
Liz looked up at her companions, who looked back with the same determination on their face. “Alright, call everybody. Michael, Kyle, my dad…” She felt her lips pull into a sardonic smile. “We’re going to plan a murder.”
Maria and Mimi DeLuca nodded, heading off to pack up their stuff and call the cavalry. Maria had grown up with Rosa, had been her best friend for as long as she could remember. Mimi had taken care of Rosa, and Liz when she came along, for years. When news reached them of Rosa’s disappearance, Mimi had wanted to return immediately. Mr DeLuca’s illness prevented that. When Michael called another few weeks later to tell them Rosa’s body had been found, just days after Mr DeLuca’s own passing…something broke in Mrs DeLuca, and she was never the same again.
Both were extremely determined to hunt down and kill the monster who killed that little girl.
Present day, 22nd of October, 9PM
Alex was standing in front of the passengers that had occupied so much of his mind for the past three days. He looked over all of them, and he wondered why he hadn’t seen it before, why he’d missed all the little things that could’ve tipped him off. He wondered if he was getting rusty.
They were all sitting in the dining carriage, their chairs moved to face Alex, who was standing with his back to door. He had always been able to command a room with just his silence, and now, too, people were waiting for him to speak.
“Thank you for coming,” Alex began, his eyes locking with each of them in turn. Isobel Evans, Max Evans, Beth and Arthur Otto, Kyle Vale, Maria and Mimi DeLuca and…Michael Guerin. All of them liars. All of them trying to hide themselves from him. But the jig was up, the curtain had fallen, and Alex could see clearly now. He continued. “I have a decision to make. I need to decide what to tell the police when we arrive in Paris tomorrow. And I was hoping you all could help me.” He saw the surprise on Michael’s face, and most of them exchanged worried and confused looks.
“We all know there was a murder here on this train. I have been working relentlessly to find out who did it, and after three days of hard searching I have narrowed it down to two theories. I will lay out these two theories before you now.”
Several people shifted in their seats, others smoothed down their clothes. Alex couldn’t help a small, half-smile that played around his lips. “My first theory is as follows. In 1920, Noah Bracken kidnapped and killed Rosa Ortecho in revenge over a workplace dispute with her father, Arturo Ortecho.” Alex let his gaze fall on Mr Otto, who blushed and lowered his eyes. “Rosa was loved by many, and her death instilled a rage in the hearts of those who loved her, none more than in the heart of her sister, Liz Ortecho.” His eyes moved over to Beth, whose eyes were already filled with tears. “So, presumably when she turns 18, Liz sets out to find her sister’s murderer, aided by her sister’s best friend Maria, and the latter’s mother and the Ortechos’ former house maid Mimi DeLuca.” Beth, Maria and Mimi all looked at each other uneasily. “Somehow they find out who Rosa’s killer is. Maybe they saw him on a train. Maybe they read about him in a newspaper. It doesn’t really matter how; they find him anyway. So they bring in the cavalry; Rosa’s father, still grieving for his eldest daughter; Kyle Valenti – ” Kyle shifted in his seat but kept his eyes steadily on Alex, though Alex could see the tears forming in them. “ – the son of the Sheriff who tried to find Rosa’s killer and failed, killing himself with shame of it – ”
Alex took a deep breath and turned his eyes on Michael, who looked at him with clear eyes and an expression of love and acceptance on his face. “ – and finally, Michael Guerin, the boy who took care of the Ortecho sisters when he couldn’t take care of himself. Six people, who all loved and adored Rosa, who all wanted to see justice for her death, a justice the system would never give them.”
“Rosa was the brightest star on this planet,” Liz burst out, tears falling freely down her face now. “She was happy when things got tough, when dad had to work long hours, when mom died. She loved and laughed and lived and that monster took her away from this world.”
Alex merely acknowledged this outbreak with a simple bow of his head, then continued. “So they devise a plan. A plan that would bring them justice for Rosa, that would – if carried out properly – help them get away with murder. It soon becomes clear they can’t get close to him. Noah Bracken has transformed himself from illegal immigrant to an oil mogul; rich, powerful and, in almost every sense of the word, untouchable. So they approach his wife. Isobel Bracken, née Evans, who may have already figured out who her husband really is…”
“He had a box,” Isobel whispered, her voice hoarse, her eyes hard and filled with disgust. “A box filled with newspaper clippings and writing. He boasted about killing that poor girl. Kept track of what the police knew. Disappeared when he needed to. I had unknowingly married a monster.” Max put a hand on hers, and she trailed off again.
Alex continued again, as if he had never been interrupted. “Isobel, having figured out who her husband really is, realizes nobody will believe her. Noah Bracken is rich and powerful, surely he would never harm a child? So when Rosa Ortecho’s loved ones show up with half a plan, she knows the only way out is through; she has to kill her husband. She knows someone in the police department of Roswell, someone with access and credibility and skills. Her own brother Max. This is also presumably how the two siblings find their long, lost brother; by planning a murder.”
“I couldn’t believe it when we suddenly were face to face,” Max muttered, glancing towards his brother. “After searching for so long, to find him in the middle of this awful tragedy.”
“So now the group is 8, and they need a plan. A plan that can help them get away with murder. A plan so intricate that even the most brilliant minds would have a hard time finding the truth.”
“Such modesty,” Michael muttered with a small smile, and despite everything, the group chuckled.
Alex smiled, too, but continued. “And then, a window of opportunity. Noah Bracken has a meeting in Istanbul with other big oil companies, and Isobel manages to convince him that they should make this a little holiday. Fly to Istanbul, spend a few days there, and taking the scenic route back; the Orient Express. A little…second honeymoon, as it were. What reason would Noah Bracken have to doubt his loving wife? She’s an exceptional actress and has not once slipped up in her façade of loving him, though she has known, at that point, for a long time. So, they come together to plan the perfect murder.”
Alex started pacing slowly up and down the dining carriage, his leg already twinging, but biting through the pain, nonetheless. He needed to get through it, he needed to know their reactions to his theory. “Isobel has her own income from her business, so she buys out an entire car on the Orient Express, two for her and her husband, and 6 for the remaining group. Michael gets a job at the Compagnie, getting himself stationed aboard the Istanbul-Paris line. There needs to be a minimum appearance of foul play. Coincidences is where they hope to confuse and befuddle anyone who tries to look closer. Simply coincidence that Isobel’s brother is on the train. Simply coincidence that the Ortechos’ house maid and her daughter are on board. Coincidences hide facts more completely than people think. This group of avengers realize this.” Alex looked at all of them in turn. Liz was still silently crying, with her head on her father’s shoulder, who in his turn looked stricken, almost sick. Mimi and Maria were sitting straight-backed, staring right at him, almost challenging him to continue. Kyle stared at his hands. Michael merely looked at Alex, an expression of pure wonder and awe on his face.
It almost made Alex falter.
“They needed a weapon that would also be a coincidence. The knife Michael always carried with him, because it reminded him of his first great love.” They locked eyes and for the first time, a single tear escaped Michael’s eyes. Alex’s heart ached. “And so they plan, first finding the perfect time to commit the murder. Kyle has medical training, and he knows that cold decreases body temperature faster than usual. So the time of death needs to be when the train passes through the coldest regions; the Alps. The decreased body temperature will not only throw off the time of death to a time that coincides with a brief stop and will provide alibis for them all. For who is awake at 3 the morning? Isobel starts taking sleep medication, weeks, maybe even months in advance, complaining of insomnia to her doctor who is fooled – again, she is a terrific actress – so that she cannot be the murderer; she was asleep, heavily medicated, so how could she possibly have killed her husband?”
Alex stopped for a moment to prop himself up on a table, unable to take the twinge in his leg any longer. “And so, on the morning of the 19th of October, 6 seemingly random people board the Orient Express, pretending not to know each other, knowing they are stepping into a closed environment with a murderer. In the evening, either Isobel or Michael put a sedative in Noah Bracken’s evening tea.”
“I did that,” Isobel said, her voice strong. She looked hardened and sure of herself, a stark comparison to the shocked and traumatized girl Alex had seen that first morning. “Michael brought the tea, but I put the Barbital in his drink. I knew if he woke up at any point, he would be able to fight back and win. He was a terrifying man, Mr Manes.”
Alex inclined his head. “At 4AM that night, everybody sneaks towards the Brackens’ cabin. Every one of these people has a reason to want Noah Bracken dead. So instead of just one person committing this murder, the knife Michael brought exchanges hands. This has the added benefit of thoroughly confusing any coroner examining the body, because not one of the stab wounds has the same depth and patterns. So every single one of the hurt and grieving people takes a stab at Noah Bracken’s chest, ending his life like he ended Rosa’s, justice finally done, Rosa’s spirit finally at peace.” Alex took a breath, examining the faces of the people in front of him. Liz and Arturo were quietly sobbing, Max holding Liz’s hand tightly. Michael’s face was wet as well, but a small smile played around his lips, too. Kyle was white as a sheet, his face taut with emotion. Maria and Mimi were holding each other’s hands tightly, their knuckles turning white. Isobel just stared at Alex, an open challenge. Alex let them all absorb the information he had laid out so far.
After a minute or two, he cleared his throat. “Now there was one thing none of them counted on. Passenger number nine. The unknown variable. I believe they tried to fill it with someone they trusted, a Miss Cameron. But she never showed up, so the cabin was given to a man who had already tried to get a ticket to Paris, but failed. Me. When the group realized a renowned private detective had somehow gotten aboard the train and straight into their meticulously planned out murder, I believe they panicked. Maybe they tried to blow the whole plan off, to try again at a later date. But they knew this was their one shot. So they went through with the plan. I think Michael was supposed to be my distraction, an actual coincidence that we had known each other in a previous life. He’d always been rather good at that, and maybe he was supposed to be that again. And it worked. For a while.”
“In the end, it was you who distracted me,” Michael said, with a shrug. “Long enough to understand that you are more important to me than anything in this world.”
Alex’s heart twisted in the best way, but he ignored it and continued on. “The group tried everything to throw sand in my face. The fake identification papers were a stroke of brilliance. The broken timeclock. Even stabbing Liz. I presume that was your doing, doctor Valenti.” Kyle inclined his head. “I still don’t understand the placement of the half-burned newspaper clipping, though – ”
“ – that was Noah’s doing,” Isobel interrupted, shrugging. “When he realized you were on board, he burned all his memorabilia he always carried with him, so you couldn’t inadvertently catch him. You scared him, Mr Manes. And my husband didn’t scare easy.” She gave him an impressed smile.
Alex inclined his head towards her slightly. “In the end, I realized I should’ve seen it before. Should’ve realized who each and every one of you was. I think Michael’s distraction worked beautifully. If only it had worked a little longer.” He let a silence fall, the group digesting Alex’s words slowly. Michael reached over and squeezed Alex’s hand. Alex squeezed back.
The silence stretched between them all, as each tried to compose themselves. After a few minutes, when even Kyle had lifted his head to look Alex in the eye again, Alex pushed himself off the table and went back to the middle of the room, facing all of them. “It’s the most plausible theory I have, it is true. But it is not bulletproof. While I have uncovered every identity, I have not a single shred of proof.”
“You said you had another theory?” Michael said, sharpest of them all, the love of his life, and Alex smiled.
“I do. After I lay out this theory, each and every one of us is going to have to make a choice. A choice that we will have to live with, one way or another.”
“Share it with us, Alex,’ Liz said, wiping her nose on her sleeve and looking up at him, trust in her eyes. She trusted him still, after all this.
Alex inclined his head. “Noah Bracken was murdered at 3AM when we were stopped in Vinkovci. An unknown assassin slipped on board this train while the conductor was making his scheduled telephone call, killed Noah Bracken in his sleep and locked the door to incriminate his sleeping wife. Then he slipped out through the window, which he left open, and disappeared into the night.”
A stunned silence fell in the dining carriage. Everyone was staring at Alex, then at each other and then back at Alex. Alex knew it was the simplest theory of all the ones he’d run through his head, and the one that had the least chance of ever being proven wrong. “Are you…are you serious?” Isobel said, leaning forward and staring up at Alex. “That’s…that’s your other theory? After you spend 20 minutes explaining your first one?”
“The simplest theories are often the truest, Ms Evans,” Alex said with a small smile that made Michael chuckle. “Every investigator knows this.”
“But in this case…” Liz started, but Alex held up a hand.
“In this case, I am faced with a choice. A choice of what I will tell the French police that will be waiting for me in Paris. If I choose option 1, you will all go to trial for murder. You may get off, since the theory I have is merely a theory. But your lives as you know it will be over. I will have to live with putting the man I love and good people to whom bad things have happened, behind bars.” Alex swallowed thickly. “If I choose option 2, you all walk away from this, and we will all have to live the rest of our lives knowing the truth. You will have to live with blood on your hands. And I will have to live with letting murderers walk free.”
Alex put his hands in his pockets as he looked at all of them. They were all looking at him, scared, afraid of his judgement, of his choice. But Alex shook his head. “I cannot make this decision alone. This is going to affect all of us. So we are all going to make a choice. And whatever we decide, that decision will haunt us for the rest of our lives.”
A stunned silence followed that. Alex looked at them all in turn, ending on Michael’s face which was filled with love and hurt and fear, mixed with just a tiny hint of pride.
“So,” Alex said, “what’s it going to be?”

RoswellNM, love triangles and my thoughts
Ok. I really like when tv shows give us realistic characters
(Be aware of my terrible english if you want to continue)
Roswell NM did so good with Jenna Cameron! She was in love with a man that was in love with another woman and she could’ve acted all jelousy and bitchy but no, she was real, se knew that they would never happen so she moved on.
Kyle Valenti and Liz Ortecho dated on high school and then they hooked up 10 years later. Kyle could’ve fall in love with Liz all over again and be all jelousy because of Max and all that shit that always happen. No. Maybe he is in love with her, but first he’s her friend and treat her as such. Roswell NM did a good job here too!
Now- Let’s talk about how they dodged too love triangles really well but then they fucked it all up.
It is not realistic that two person will only ever date and love one another they whole life, so yes I expected Alex and Michael to date other people eventually. But making this other person Alex’s best friend is just fucked up.
I hate all love triangles that I ever watched or read. Maybe because I always choose the wrong otp lol
But the worst is when they make siblings or best friends love the same person. COME ON. DON’T MESS WITH TWO RELATIONSHIP AT ONCE!
And they did that
I’m always wondering “why Maria and Michael started this thing now? They had 10 years in the same city ffs” and it could be so much better if Alex had arrive and they were already together. It would be easier on my heart for sure.
Then they build three characters that I identified with just to screw it all up. They gave me Maria who is so loyal to her friends and family, always wants to help and is so in tune with their feelings and I am a little bit like that, I’ll do everything for those who I love and I was so hyped with her. So she discover that her best friends is in love with a guy for the last 10 years, the same guy she slept with and is starting to have feelings for (and she didn’t do a thing wrong, she’s an angel I love her) and is like ‘wow what now? Oh right, I’m gonna shut this thing with Guerin down because my best friend is my first priority’ and I was so happy and not just because I ship malex but also cause that’s what I would do. That’s what I think most friends would do. But like 3 (?) episodes later she just
Look, I knew that Maria and Michael would happen but I was expecting a totally different scenario. Because the first thing I wanted to see was Alex apologising for being a little off with her and then they would talk and she would tell him how she feels. Alex would say that he would like to be with Guerin but doesn’t know if Michael wants the same thing because is complicated. And they would just basically say that don’t matter what they would still be friend or something like that.
NO. The character that I thought was all about protecting her friends and all just went for it WITHOUT EVEN TALK TO HER FRIEND FIRST WTAF
I would be so totally fine if they talked first. Or even if Michael went to end things with Alex.
Like I said, I knew they would get together for awhile it was so obvious. I was really hoping for a much better way but the writers just did a shitty job like all others tv shows. Will they ever at least make the friends put their friendship first?
Could they make a healthier love triangle? I don’t think that is a way because this trope sucks.
Also- After everything that Michael just went through I was hoping that he would end the season alone (romantically). Like, he just met his mom and she died five seconds later, and there was this roller coaster with the 4th alien He deserves some time to himself, to think, to mourn, to conect with his family again- And then I imagined that he would open up with Alex and become friends, tell him that he can’t be with him now, meanwhile he would start to win Maria over
I still believe that malex is endgame, I just was expecting a lot more and they totally disappointed me. And I have I lot more to talk but I can even put my thoughts together right now
The most important thing is: Alex Manes deserved better
Goodnight
