Hey all.

With the news that Tumblr isn't doing so hot, I'm going to start posting my decades challenge on Instagram as well. I'll be slowly copying the same post I have on here over there. That way, whatever happens, the Moody legacy will continue. I know it's been a minute since I posted but life had been rough (especially healthwise). I hope to be posting both here and on Instagram asap. Here's hoping this is just another scare in Tumblr's history and we don't actually go down. You can follow me @sim_ply_lilacs on Instagram. I think what a funny question would be to Professor Weasley, why does the book say that you can learn the Unforgivable Curses?

That is quite the question, isn't it? The book that has everything the students "needs" and then some.

As a somewhat completionist, I wanted to learn them, but my MC is mostly a goody-two-shoes, lol.

That being said...that would make for a funny conversation...

*in the Transfiguration classroom*

Prof. Weasley: How have you been doing with your field guide? Any luck finding some pages?

MC: Well, yes, I've found quite a few already.

Wealsey: Wonderful! It seems you've been doing well in acclimating to this new world.

MC: I have a question, though...

Weasley: Yes?

MC, opens book: In the list of spells for me to learn, I see that I CAN learn the Unforgiveables.

Weasley: Oh dear... I don't know how-

MC: But you want me to completely fill out this book, right?

Weasley: I- that was the intention, yes, but-

MC: Alright! Time to learn some war crimes!

*MC runs out of the classroom*

Unpopular Opinion time: Sebastian

* Also Spoilers!*

And TW: long, rambling, possibly incoherent thoughts. Because there are too many of them in my brain 😅

Okay, maybe it’s not actually an unpopular opinion. Im not actually sure. Buuuut….

I absolutely love that Sebastian gets SO mad when we tell him about Lodgok.

Now, before anyone says anything….

I have reasons.

1. His reaction 100% makes sense for his character. I’m not saying his views aren’t problematic. They definitely are. Boy needs some lessons. But we also have to remember literally every interaction we have seen or heard of Sebastian having with a goblin has been completely negative. Goblins cursed Anne (It was Rookwood, but Seb doesn’t know that), Sebastian and MC are attacked by goblins multiple times, Goblins raid Feldcroft and nearby hamlets, AND a Goblin tries to kill Anne with an Axe in front of Sebastian. For him to have reacted to MC working with a Goblin in any other way would have felt disingenuous.

2. You could argue that he’s only angry because he cares about Anne, but I think you could also argue that In his own dumb 15-year-old boy way, he’s worried about MC, too. As stated previously, every interaction he’s had with Goblins has been negative. This kid is stressed to the nines, and now his new friend (MC) is galavanting off with some Goblin. Of course, he’s going to react negatively. In Sebastian’s mind, we’re doing something stupid and dangerous, and he’s scared. His reaction is definitely painful, but it’s also human. People don’t always react appropriately or how we’d like them too in those situations. Plus, like I said….. He’s a dumb boy

3. Let’s also not forget that since losing his parents. Sebastian has been taught, (via Solomon’s example) to react to things he fears/doesn’t understand with anger and hostility. Which is exactly what he does.

Look,I’m not saying I don’t want to drop kick him sometimes.

But…there’s just a special little place in my heart for our moody angsty little Seb. 💚🐍

*also if you actually made it through that. Thank You and I’m sorry. I hope your brain is okay after that….😬

Brindleton Bay, 1891

On a drizzling morning as the last cold fingers of winter dipped into the light of spring, Beatrice Fenton buried her father.

Beatrice wandered her way through the day. She stopped to chat to this relative and that, made her mother, Madeline as comfortable as she could, and smiled graciously through every saccharine message of consolation she received.

Eventually, though, her grief threatened to overwhelm her, and she slipped away to an isolated corner of her parents' property.

Beatrice had adored her father. The late-in-life only child of her parents, she had grown up indulged and doted on. The Fentons had lived a comfortable life in a home that boated both electricity and indoor plumbing, and had saved enough money over the years that Beatrice had been set to attend the University of Britechester in the fall to obtain her B.A. in literature. That dream was forced to die, however, when her father took ill. Madeline spent every penny—and then some—of their savings in a hopeless attempt to save the life of her beloved. He had passed anyway, and his family was destitute.

"Oh Papa!" Beatrice sobbed, "Oh Papa I don't know what to do! Mother and I have nothing left, save the house. Even that must be sold to settle the debts we owe the doctor, and then there's nothing left. I looked for a teaching position nearby, but there's nothing closer than Strangerville all the way across the country, and Mother refuses to be parted from Brindleton Bay."

"I-I'm trying so hard, Papa. I'm trying to be brave like you asked me to be, but I just have nothing left. We have no money, no relatives, no nothing. Perhaps some convent will take us on but oh how I wanted little babies of my own."

"How could we have come to this? Oh, what will I do?"

Beatrice spoke no more. The grief became too heavy to carry. Letting it roll over her like the waves of the bay where she'd had such a happy childhood, Beatrice let it pull her under, and finally gave in to tears. As an only child, she'd always been comfortable being alone, but never before had she felt so lonely.

And yet, that was not the only reason she was pleased to hear the soft, kind voice that approached and whispered, "Bea?"
