Biology: You always accuse me of not being able to do math, Physics, but can you STAMP COLLECT???

Physics: Uh, sure! I can collect things… like… um…

Biology: Uh-huh?

Physics: I mean, I got a bunch of cool looking Greek symbols!

Biology: Which you invented arbitrarily, not discovered.

Physics: They represent things I discovered! Like phenomena and physical constants!

Biology: And what kind of taxonomy do those have? Do you even have entire sub disciplines dedicated purely to organizing the sheer number of these phenomena and constants? Are there even millions and millions of categories in it?

Physics: Um, wait, you have entire fields dedicated to organizing your stamp collections?

Biology: Why, of course! Sure sounds like you've got a pretty shit collection, then. I bet any attempt at making a universally consistent naming convention or taxonomy isn’t even an impossible Sisyphean struggle against the inherent chaos and inelegance of nature which is entirely incompatible with the human desire to categorize things that by their very nature cannot be categorized. I bet there aren’t even exceptions with exceptions to every rule. Weak.

here's an excerpt from something i've been thinking and talking about a lot, and a conversation in the KC Fam discord server gave me the push i needed to finally do something about it. it's going pretty well, so it may just hit the ao3 on your nearest device quite soon.

“Vlad,” he says, to introduce himself. A laugh bubbles out of Caroline. “Yeah, right.” His expression remains serene, but when recalling the event in the future she’ll decide that there was a slight gleam of anticipation in his eyes. “Indeed.” Caroline blinks then. “No way. Really?” “I’m afraid so.” “Wow. That’s like … I mean …” She laughs again. “That’s insane. Imagine your mom and dad naming you Vlad, only to become a vampire. And like … you’re older than the book, aren’t you? So, like, for the next couple centuries it’s nothing and then—” “You misunderstand me,” he says. “I am Vlad Drakulya.” Her eyebrows fly up. “You’re messing with me. There is no way—” He just shrugs, full lips curling into a grin. At that, Caroline’s jaw just sort of … drops. And her eyes bulge out, and she must look supremely stupid for a couple of seconds, staring at him. At … Dracula. Who is real. And here. In front of her.

“Oh,” she says at last, locking her jaw into place.

okay but does anyone listen to bronski beat and does anyone GET IT. they released an album, completely unashamedly gay, in the 80s, during the AIDS crisis, during a time of insanely rampant homophobia and over the top conservatism. they released an album with the age of consent for homosexual activity in every european country listed on the sleeve and the phone number for a legal advice hotline for queer people etched into the grooves of the vinyl. they released an album with the opening track dedicated to a hate crime victim, featuring vocals from an openly gay choir. they released an album with songs about homophobic violence, the dangers of following the bible too closely, about leaving behind everything you know and starting over, about homophobic family and homophobic bullying. they wrote about being gay and being proud of it and knowing that there is nothing wrong with who you are. in the face of all the hatred going on in the 80s they released an album that was in-your-face gay and fuck-you queer, and i love them for it.

#bronski beat #for reference : the album is The Age Of Consent #the man the opening track “Why ?” was dedicated to was Drew Griffiths (who according to wikipedia was a #playwright who was victim to a homophobic murder in 1984)#and the choir was The Pink Singers (an openly gay men’s choir in London)#and like yeah. i know this very much centers gay men HOWEVER . considering everything like the time period and #how songs that would’ve been lesbian (see: Voices Carry by Til Tuesday) being basically straight-washed. and also how rampant homophobia wa #(so getting anything even a little gay released was hard bc it was likely to get smashed down by record stores and companies and #radio stations and music reviewers. and us ones particularly )#in this case i don’t care whatsoever and besides they did something absolutely monumental for the whole community if you ask me #as a lesbian i am literally so grateful that this exists and i wasn’t even alive at the time. even now it makes me feel seen.#i cant even imagine what it would’ve been like for a queer kid in the 80s to hear that and maybe know they weren’t alone #so in conclusion: bronski beat i love you forever and jimmy somerville i love you forever

I realized my post analyzing ARGs/Analog Horror was super underestimating of a series so here's a part two

THE MONUMENT MYTHOS: I'm SO sorry I boiled this series down to "big monument is alive boo scary" because it is SO much more than that. Sure it is confusing, but it's so interesting. I could give you plenty of reasons to watch this series, but Freedom is wife and I think that should be enough

The SMILE Tapes: horrifying terrifying horribly amazing AUAGHUGH IT'S SO GOOD!!! There is a VIRUS going around making people go coo coo in the head and distorts their faces and it's SO GROSS but it's SO GOOD

The Macabre Experiment: what if... creepypasta... but... better?

I'm pretty sure this isn't just me underestimating a series again and boiling it down to simple concepts, right? it's creepypasta but made better!!! it retells popular internet horror stories from 2012 in a spookier way, so if these stories have always felt very cliche or horribly written to you, this series is a great choice

The Man in the Suit: one guy in a Godzilla suit will singlehandedly make every American pay for the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by actually becoming the big lizard (and overall it's very well made and written, the idea of a guy fusing with a suit seems silly but the story is actually awesome)

also I watched this series once and YouTube won't stop recommending me Godzilla stuff how do I stop this PLEASE
