WildBrain are still getting used to animating in this style. Do I need to remind you all of S1 (especially the pilot's) animation? Give them a break, let them cook/get used to it. It's just the trailer. The season itself will still be amazing, regardless of animation quality. The story is what matters.

looking at the lmk5 trailer and im wondering if they’re straight up animating it differently/using different tools? this isn’t a critique on the animation but the way that like, nezha specifically moves reminds me of puppet 2d animation like mlp (as opposed to the hand-drawn nature of the previous seasons) so that’s a possibility? it’s hard to explain but yk what i mean

No it's Definitely differently animated, I think they switched from hand-drawn to flash animation. i cant say im the biggest fan of this change... and the worst part is i had a dream of a few months ago that they switched the animation to flash animation 😭😭😭

DO NOT HARRASS THE ANIMATION STAFF/STUDIO

In light of recent events, I decided to go check out Wildbrain's website for more information on what their 2D works are usually like.

These are the same people involved in the making of Carmen Sandiego

A show that, like some of their other 2D works, actually benefits from a choppier, more puppet-like animation style.

It's safe to say that it's the type that's worked well for them up to this point, with a couple exceptions. (See: The Snoopy Show)

And much as I'm disappointed with the quality downgrade of the new LMK season, well...

...Keep in mind that this studio has loads of talented people who are trying their best to fill the big shoes left behind by Flying Bark.

LEGO made the decision of what studio should step in next, and attacking the actual studio for it just makes you an asshole.

tw; mentioned suicide, some spoilers for the lmk s5 trailer and the canonization of the gods (I forgot the og name), and nezha angst

been talking about some nezha stuff with a friend and, inspired by that one tiktok audio on tiktok with a woman humming to her microwave (spoiler alert: yin wuming is NOT Nezha's mother's name. My friend says she's nameless so the title stuck on me and now it's a fan-name)

i imagine that yin wuming used to hum to her boys to comfort them as children, but the one that remembers her voice the most would be nezha since jinzha and muzha would've been closer to their dad than their mom, knowing how things turn out.

so when nezha committed suicide the first thing he hears/remembers is his mom humming to him, because she has always been the one to truly love and care for him, as a person and a child, unlike li jing who sees his children as a means of earning fame and power to his name.

there's also the headcanon that muzha was the one who told li jing about nezha's temples, and i imagine instead of being angry or hurt, yin wuming simply forgives muzha, because what good would it do to hate her son? in my mind, muzha is more similar to li jing appearances wise (jinzha is a mix of his mom and dad, and nezha looks similar to his mother), so he has his own self doubts, but yin wuming tries her best to comfort him because she wants to be a better parent than li jing ☹️

FLYING BARK IS NOT GONE: about the trailer animation

PLEASE DO NOT SPREAD THE IDEA THAT FLYING BARK WAS REPLACED.

THIS IS FALSE.

Flying Bark made the decision to outsource additional animation, this includes things like trailers and promos- not the actual show. this decision was made because Flying Bark is also currently working on the upcoming animated ATLA movie, and they needed to lessen their workload. Flying Bark is still handling the animation of the actual episodes and specials, they just needed some breathing room and got that by giving some of the less important responsibilities- like promos and trailers- to someone else for the time being.

the animation isn't even bad, there's no need to act like this is the end of the world and start acting like everything will be changed forever. though I will give some of ya'll the benefit of the doubt and say you probably didn't know these details, but we shouldn't have jumped to conclusions anyway.

edit: there is a post saying that Wildbarin has a deal for two seasons + specials of LMK, this was a misread, the site this info was taken from was mentioning the already existing content for LMK on Amazon Kids+. the deal wildbrain was, again, for the additional animation. Please do not harass this blog if you see the post however.

edit 2: it has been alleged that Wildbrain has been given a 1-2 year deal for two seasons + a special per leaked "legal documents" from Flying Bark, and I may have been wrong in the above edit. this has yet to be confirmed, if it comes out as true then I will be removing this post, so far I have seen nothing but the misread website however. that being said if it is true, FLYING BARK IS STILL SET TO RETURN ONCE THAT DEAL IS FINISHED. but be warned, my word is not law, and I'm not infallible.

unfortunately Flying Bark does seem to be fully parting ways with LEGO Monkie Kid due to the inability to keep up with deadlines, likely contributing to the decision to sign off the license to Wildbrain as that would make a change from hand drawn animation to puppet 2d/3d animation.

please note that the voice teams and writing teams are remaining the same, only the animation team is being changed.

that being said looking at the trailer the main differences in the animation appears to be in the dept and lighting, things that can be easily fixed and likely are only off because the are unfinished. the animation we see in the trailer is likely not the final product, and I implore fans to remain patient and respectful with our new animation team.

(but again, please do not take my world for law, I am not immune to human error)

I apologize for helping further misinformation about lmk s5.

It's so hard to say goodbye to a studio which gave us an incredibly beautiful show, but torches are passed, and Flying Bark will continue to make amazing things.
