Kagome: InuYasha.
InuYasha: Hm?
Kagome: I don't like that you don't have a last name.
InuYasha: Excuse me?
Kagome: You have no last name. It sucks!
InuYasha: Well what's wrong with that?
Kagome: It doesn't suit you. You deserve a last name.
Kagome: You should get a last name.
InuYasha: Get one??? And to what???
Kagome: Higurashi. *walks away*
InuYasha *flustered*: D-did you just-!
InuYasha: DID YOU JUST PROPOSE TO ME!!!!????
InuYasha: DON'T YOU WALK AWAY!!!!
InuYasha: ARE YOU GIGGLING!!!???
InuYasha: COME BACK HERE YOU LITTLE-
And that's how InuYasha became InuYasha Higurashi (and married Kagome)

Sooo I went to Japan for 2 weeks! It was amazing! Extremely hot but I still enjoyed everything and want to go back ASAP 😭
I wanted to share the Inuyasha merch I’ve been able to find! Which is not a lot, lol. Urusei Yatsura's Lum was EVERYWHERE (especially thanks to the recent reboot) and I also saw Ranma 1/2 stuff quite a bit, but Inuyasha was nowhere to be found except in Nakano Broadway...
Tumblr media
Starting from top left: A doujinshi I found at a Mandarake, a CD with some of the opening/endings and a pack of playing cards with art from the second movie. Below that I have a Inuyasha acrylic (found that one in a Animate at Ikebukuro), a small shippo figure and volume 4 of Yashahime (with Momo on the cover 🥰). Then below that I got 2 volumes of the wide ban edition of the manga (1 and 30 so the first and last volumes) and the Shonen Sunday S magazine with the latest Yashahime manga chapter. Above that there's Hisui from a Yashahime gachapon and above the beautiful miko Kagome figurine ♥
Tumblr media
She's supposed to sit on a bottle so I cut the top of a plastic bottle, added some wrapping paper and a scrunchy to make some kind of base for her to sit on! I've always wanted that figurine but it's super expensive online so I'm glad I found her at a decent price. The world needs more miko Kagome merch 🙏
Tumblr media
This is the back of the inukag doujinshi I bought, I haven't been able to find that artist online 🤔 If anyone know where I can find them, let me know!
Funny thing, the only time I saw the Yashahime gachapon was at Tokyo tower. I tried it really hoping I would get either Moroha, Hisui or Kohaku and not the others so I'm very glad I got Hisui! 3 out of 8 is not good odds lmao.
Tumblr media
I KNOW there's some actual Inuyasha gachapon out there but I never saw any! Even that Yashahime one was mostly empty 😭
I also visited Niigata, the home city of Rumiko Takahashi. In the Manga and Anime museum there I bought this special fan that was released for the 35th anniversary of Takahashi's career. There was also the same for Maison Ikkoku and Ranma 1/2. I thought it was a really cool find!
Tumblr media
Anyway, Japan let me down a bit in terms of Inuyasha merch but everything else was great (except the weather, seriously don't go in Japan in the summer it's too hot). I definitely want to go back in the spring and see the cherry blossom. I'd also like to visit the south more, like Osaka and Hiroshima.
Yashahime might be a disaster but it's actually thanks to that series that I met the amazing girls I went on this trip with, and for that I am so thankful. We went through hell following that series every week but we ended up with forging really strong bonds and traveling with them felt like being with family!
The real Inuyasha sequel was truly the friends we made along the way 😌🌈✨

I so love the work you guys do! And since you have recommended so many great stories I was wondering if you knew of any Inuyasha/Harry Potter au? I would love me some inu and crew sorted into houses and fighting with wands :)
Thanks in advance!
Hi @misspepperpottss, thank you so much for your patience 😅. We thought this was going to be a relatively easy list to put together, but quickly discovered that there are only a few Harry Potter AUs out there that feature InuKag, and the overwhelming majority of crossovers were written for crossover ships (such as Kagome/Draco etc).
The list below is everything we could find after searching high and low. Please note that many of the stories (especially towards the end of the list) are not complete and haven't been updated for over 10 years.
We hope you find something you enjoy on this relatively short list. Please accept this gif made by fic-finder @lostinfantasyworlds as a small consolation for the lack of results after waiting so long!

Itching For You by @witchygirl99 (G)
“I have an idea,” Kagome interjected, still kind but oddly firm. “Since we all want to do the same assignment tonight, why don’t we do it together? That way, we get all the information we need, we all complete the assignment on time, and everyone is happy.” Inuyasha opened his mouth, but she shot him a sharp look, smile gaining an edge and quelling his argument. “This is the best plan.”
Professor Naraku assigns a last minute, no-good assignment because he hates the world (or Inuyasha, specifically). Too bad there's only one book in all of Hogwarts that has the answers a certain few wizards and witches need.

TROPE-TASTIC
Tumblr media
So I'm trying something I saw on rumble. Basically, I'm making a list of the prompts I'm using for this story challenge.
Problem is... I need 30 prompts I can work with... I've only found 19.
Anyway...
This is what I'm working on. I'd love to see others interpretations of these prompts, so feel free to use them in your own chapter or one shot stories!
If you do, please link them to keep so I can read/promote them! If you post them here, add the hash tag #AWBsesskag
Tumblr media
Genre: Humor/Romance/Angst
Twist: Try to use as many tropes as possible
Universe: Canon
Fandom: Inuyasha
Pairing: Sesshomaru x Kagome
Rating: M
Description:
A few weeks have passed since Sesshomaru & his group joined the Inutachi. No one knew why Sesshomaru started following them around. Nor did they understand him seeming obsession with their naieve miko.
Prompts!
(In no particular order)
Tumblr media
Hot Spring: Much to her mortification, kagome winds up accidentally giving the males of her group a peep show.
Swordplay: Inuyasha & Sesshomaru argue over who's "sword" is bigger & who "swings" it better.
Plum Sake: Poor Sesshomaru is at a loss when drunk Kagome comes out to play
Fairytale: Kagome wakes up from a yokai induced sleep to a kiss from Sesshomaru while the kids cheer about her bedtime stories
Sleep: Sesshomaru watches kagome sleep, lost in thought. Meanwhile, Inuyasha watches him, jealousy building with every second that passes.
Instinct: Sesshomaru protects Shippo, Sango, & Miroku in Kagomes absence
False Claim: When Kogas antics go to far, Sesshomaru steps in to set things straight once & for all.
Liar: After an argument, Inuyasha leaves to be with kikyo for the night. Leaving Sesshomaru behind to pick up the pieces of a broken miko.
Acts of Honor: Sesshomaru captures Kohaku during battle, but instead of leaving him for dead, he returns him to Sango as the brother she remembers... not Narakus puppet.
Dishonorable: Sesshomaru scolds Miroku for his unfaithful & lecherous ways, much to the Monks embarrassment.
Festoval: Sesshomaru takes pride in spoiling the pack at a yokai celebration in honor of the balance between earths power, humans, & yokai.
Stormy Eyes: Injured, but furious... Kagome not only scolds but challenges Sesshomarus mother to a dual.
Healing: When Kagome is Injured, Sesshoumaru protects & cares for her in a way only a inu should care fot their mate, causing confusing feelings for Kagome.
Revelations: Sesshomaru opens up about his upbringing. Not realizing what he's describing is manipulation & abuse. His is when kagome decides her feelings for Sesshomaru are stronger than friendship.
Shame: Sesshomaru & his mother argue over his feelings over lagome, not realizing she overhears his lack of denial when his mother accuses him of being as shameful as his father for loving a human.
Enough: After finding Sesshomaru comforting her... Inuyasha goes too far with his insults towards kagome, resulting in an all out brawl.
Penis: Anyone who wants to visit the future kagome comes from,needs to be subjugated. Kagome decides on a word she would NEVER say to the kids.
Whore: Word around Tokys is that Higurashi Kagome is an unwed, teen mother whos getting kicked out of middle school for lying about being suck to chase a gangster two timer, only to turn around & switch to his brother. Her families reputation is in ruin.
Chickens: Sesshoumaru is HIGHLY unimpressed with Kagomes friends & the boy Hojo who couldn't take no for an answer.
Submitted by @anastasiaskarsgard
Control: Kagomes power has been compromised & she can no longer control it. When her reki violently lashes out during a disagreement, she fears she's hurt Sesshomaru
Collections: Poor Jaken. Once a leader in his own right, he abandoned his people to serve the most feared yokai in Nippon. For years, things had been wonderful. But recently, his master had taken up an odd hobby. Jacken just couldn't fathom why his master kept collecting human females!
Rawr: Ah-Un are in charge of watching over the children. All seems well & the large dragon is able to eat their grass in peace. But serenity never lasts & if Ah-Un wants to get back to their lunch, they'll need to teach the yokai attempting to sneak up on the camp a lesson.
Tumblr media
I still need 8 more prompts (minimum to hit 30. The max is 45 chapters) I figure I should add some battle scenes somewhere, lol. If you have any Prompt ideas... especially funny ones... PLEASE comment them below. 💜

AU where Kagome is Kikyo's sister in the feudal era and they're both priestesses (though Kagome is not as trained or high in ranking as Kikyo).
Inuyasha and Kikyo still meet and they develop a friendship and maybe a budding relationship (Kikyo does develop feelings for him). But since Inuyasha has been following Kikyo to get a chance at stealing the Shikon Jewel, he then meets Kagome.
Of course they bicker and Inuyasha notes she's nothing like Kikyo, but at the same time they still develop a bond...maybe one much stronger than that between Inuyasha and Kikyo. Kagome's differences from Kikyo actually endear Inuyasha. She's emotional, open, and accepting and understanding. She loves Inuyasha as himself, all parts of him, human and demon and all. Inuyasha feels at peace, even joyful, with Kagome, and he is overwhelmed by the affection and protectiveness he feels so strongly and quickly for her. They trust strongly, they care deeply, and they love each other greatly.
Kikyo notices everything. Maybe it's for the best, she admits. But inside...it's another story. One part of her, the protective sister and priestess part, is reluctant towards her dear sister getting involved with a half-demon. The other part, one that is more personal and selfish, is jealous of her sister (since Kikyo herself is in love with Inuyasha too) and hurt by Inuyasha and Kagome's flourishing romance. It's another reminder of what she cannot have, of the life she's destined for. The final nail in the coffin. Kikyo of course tries to suppress these feelings and carry on, but as she ignores them they fester. Her turmoil has weakened her powers and ultimately make her a target.
During all this, she's been caring for the wounded bandit Onigumo, who desperately desires her. When demons offer to give him a new body, he readily accepts. Naraku is born and bent on getting rid of Kikyo and taking the Shikon Jewel. Even though Kikyo has weakened, she's still too strong for him. But he knows what's hindering her: her fondness for the half demon Inuyasha, her conflicting emotions over Kagome and Inuyasha, and her secret resentment and frustration over her life. It's ample for him to take advantage of, to make corrupting the jewel and taking the powerful miko down. And, of course, there's the love between the half demon and the second place priestess. All in all, Naraku is licking his chops over what he could do with the situation already bestowed upon him...

The Silence - Part 9
Tumblr media
Permission
Sesshoumaru paced the length of the stone terrace, his hands squeezed into fists. Time—that unit of measurement usually of little notice or consequence to his kind—had turned into a device of torture. Every single second stretched endlessly, mocking him. Every additional minute drove deeper a sense of helplessness, like an iron spike sinking into his heart.
Helplessness was not an emotion he was overly familiar with.
He did not like it.
This had been a mistake, he thought to himself as fear churned in his gut. An idiotic and insane idea.
And yes, it was the only way he could ever hope to further his relationship with Kagome… But as the time crawled around him, as he waited and fretted and ached, he wondered if even the prospect of future happiness was worth this agony. Worth this gnawing, endless wait, during which he was forced to prowl here and get better acquainted with attributes he'd never before had to apply to himself: powerless and useless. And all the while Kagome was out there. Without his protection. Alone.
Or more accurately and horrifyingly—alone with his mother.
Glum and anxious, his mind kept feeding him gut-wrenching scenarios in rapid succession. Who knew what was happening in there? What side of herself his mother had decided to show? Was she interrogating Kagome now? Insulting her? Without a doubt she was probably scaring her, for which Sesshoumaru couldn't—and wouldn't—blame Kagome. His mother was frightening without any conscious effort on her part. It came as naturally to her as the poison to her claws.
Poison. Sesshoumaru grimaced, his fists balling tighter. That was another nightmarish image he did not need in his mind. Surely his mother wouldn't think to poison Kagome. Or physically harm her in any other way.
... Who was he kidding? With his mother, anything was possible.
A growl rumbled in Sesshoumaru's throat and his pace increased. He couldn't take this for much longer. The waiting. If his mother and his miko did not soon emerge, he would—
Sesshoumaru’s mother strode onto the terrace he’d been pacing. His shoulders immediately tensed and did not relax even as he spotted the form of his miko, trailing hesitantly after his mother. Something that felt alarmingly close to desperation was clawing at his throat and squeezing out his breath as he tried to scan his mother’s impassive face.
Given that Kagome was alive and unharmed, the audience had to have gone well.
And then, the tang of salt stung his nostrils. Closer now, he searched the familiar features of the woman he loved and a dark growl escaped.
Kagome had been crying.
“What have you done, mother?” he demanded, crossing to his miko. He wrapped one arm protectively around her.
His mother, infuriating as always, quirked up one imperious eyebrow.
“I had a nice, long talk with Kagome so we might be better acquainted. And I heartily encourage you to do the same.”
Sesshoumaru snarled, his claws flexing until a small hand landed on his arm.
“I’m fine,” Kagome said, though the smile she flashed him trembled at the edges. “We had tea and talked.”
“Well then,” Sesshoumaru’s mother intoned dryly. “It has been lovely to meet you, Kagome. Do visit again, if you wish.”
Kagome bowed her head. “Thank you. I’d be honoured.”
“Delightful.” His mother smiled. Then, she walked over to them and bent to brush her lips on Kagome’s forehead. “I give you my blessing. You are welcomed, little miko.”
With one last regal nod, Sesshoumaru’s mother left.
Watching his mother’s retreating, silk-clad back, her words of welcome echoing in his incredulous mind, the heavy coil of all the fear and tension and anxiety and helplessness Sesshoumaru had been carrying finally started to unwind. And, as the relief flooded his whole being like a tsunami, the meaning behind his mother’s final words began to sink in, penetrating his overtaxed brain until it finally began to process them.
Sesshoumaru held on to Kagome, and pulled her closer. And marvelled at the fact that she would finally be his. That he had his Elder’s permission and thus, a future with his miko.
Of course, if there was anyone who could have garnered his unreasonable, mercurial mother’s favour, it would be Kagome. There was something about her that managed to melt the resistance of even the most stubborn and withered heart—wasn’t Sesshoumaru himself the undeniable proof of the miko’s irresistible charm? He pressed his nose to the top of her head and inhaled her scent, letting his heart fill with adoration.
Kagome stepped back and wrapped her arms around herself. Her gaze was sombre and didn’t quite meet his eye when she told him: “Let’s go.”
Sesshoumaru inclined his head and pulled Kagome into a secure hold before he launched them into the air. The further away they could get from his mother, the better for his sanity. Besides, they had a future to think of. As he flew into the east, his miko tucked safely against him, Sesshoumaru’s lips curled into a smile.

The Boy Who Overcame Time
Inuyasha was digging through his backpack looking for his textbooks, to no avail. "Shit," he whispered. "Ma's going to kill me if she has to buy these again."
His first set of textbooks worked as kindling on one of Kagome's first human nights alone with him. There was a snowstorm, he found shelter in an abandoned hut and they’d be approaching hypothermia if he hadn’t acted quickly. The second set of textbooks eventually reeked so badly of miasma after a run-in with Naraku that grandpa Totosai said a prayer over them, his bugging eyes watering before he burned those too.
He could not afford to lose these.
He dumped the entire bag onto the grass unceremoniously, as if it would make 3 heavy books materialize.
"Now you're just making a mess." Sango crossed her arms somewhere behind him, and he turned his head to see the miko looking down at him with a disgusted expression.
"Leave the kid alone," Miroku called from where he was sprawled out on the ground. "This homework thing sounds scarier than an entire horde of demons."
"Oh? Not too keen on being held accountable for your choices?" She cocked a hip and didn't wait for the slayer's response, "Inuyasha, your textbooks have to be somewhere, nobody is going to steal books they probably can't even read. Have you asked Kaede?"
"Maybe she's using them in place of rocks to weigh down her stew. Wouldn't put it past her." Miroku sat up in the grass. "Do you think Futaba has them?"
"Stop using anything you possibly can to harass poor, unsuspecting women—" Sango stomped over to him, which made Miroku smirk, as if he'd been aiming for that the entire time—
"Shut up!" Inuyasha grouched. "Your theories mean nothing to me. Where's Kagome?"
The half-tengu girl couldn't be harder to keep track of. She stuck her nose in everything and helped people who didn't even want her to because they were bigoted fucks. It gave 15 year old Inuyasha the vapors. He was way too young to be getting the vapors.
Inuyasha left the miko and the demon slayer to hash out their unresolved sexual tension by themselves and went off to find Kagome.
He ran deeper into the very forest for which she was the namesake, looking for a set of raven wings hidden in the treetops.
"Kagome?"
In return, the wind blew, rustling the tree leaves around in a gentle caress. Sunlight dappled down through the gaps in the foliage, the image before him so serene he could almost forget why he was hanging out in Feudal Japan in the first place. People paid good money for this kind of scenery in his time.
Deeper within, he found Shippo napping in a patch of sunshine, which meant that Kagome wasn't far away. She looked after the runt like he was her own. The fox kit smelled him approaching, nose wrinkling as he roused.
"Hey, stinkbutt," the 2 foot tall entity of pure irritation groused. "Got any lollipops to give me?"
"Not with that fuckin' attitude, shrimp. You seen Kagome?"
Shippo huffed. "She's off readin' somewhere. Beats me."
She's reading, he thought to himself, that tells me everything I need to know.
"Back at camp there's ninja snacks," Inuyasha nodded behind him as he began to jog away from the fox. "Thanks for the intel, shitbird!"
Behind him, Shippo brightened with excitement and made to scurry off to where Inuyasha left Miroku and Sango before he stopped abruptly. "Hey, wait! I'm going to tell Kagome you said that!"
"I dare you! Hope you don't walk in on our friends making out!" Inuyasha yelled without turning back.
"Yuck!"
-
Once Inuyasha made it to the well clearing, he skidded to a halt. He looked down to the hem of his uniform trousers and winced at the dirt trailing up his pant leg. He'd started wearing normal sneakers in Kagome's time, but maybe it's time to start coming in sweats or something.
Either way, he's going to get an earful from Izayoi ("I'm not mad sweetheart, just disappointed"), and then Toga's going to nod half-heartedly behind her like the loyal puppy he is.
Gods, his parents were so embarrassing.
Inuyasha looked up, and sure enough, he could see Kagome's large wings hanging over one of the higher boughs. He sighed and walked right under the tree's impressive branches.
He whistled for her attention. When she didn't respond, he did it again, saying "Hey, pretty bird!"
Inuyasha continued to call her as if she were an actual pet until a burst of black feathers flooded his vision. He was scooped up and firmly planted on that same branch he saw Kagome sitting on in a matter of seconds.
"I resent that!"
She had a veritable nest building on the expanse of corrugated bark, a little nook being created by an adjoining section of sturdy wood where, bingo: his textbooks were piled next to an open bag of chips, one of them open to a page about the Heian period.
"Only birds steal things to make nests, y'know. I'm just callin' it like I see it."
Kagome's wings flapped irritably as she scoffed, waving his comments away with a flick of her taloned fingers.
"You can't just take my books without mentioning it. Ma'll wring my neck, and you'll be out one shard detector."
She loved his mother. Every time Kagome got even a flicker of praise from Izayoi, she'd brighten.
"I'd never let you go home without them," she said defensively. "You just weren't using them and there were things I wanted to see."
"I carry them to use them."
"Why don't you ever take them out?"
"Uh, does the constant threat of power hungry demons ring a bell to you?"
Her brow crinkled at that. Inuyasha reined in that blooming affection he felt at the sight, it was creeping up far too often for his liking.
"Fine," she replied softly. "Not like I can decipher it all anyway."
At her sullen mien, Inuyasha gestured to her pile. "Hand it over. We'll look at it together. That cool?"
Kagome plucked the heavy textbook one-handed and with lots of enthusiasm. He set the book between them on their legs.
"Tell me what you don't understand and we can go through it together."
She blinked at him in awe, a gentle smile curling on the side of her mouth.
-
"Oh, the sun's starting to set."
"I was supposed to be studying math this whole time."
"Ew, math!"
"Tell me about it."
-
Midterms came and went.
He had to retake his math exams.

Youkai Academy ~Chapter 2~
The school halls were abuzz with whispers and hushed tones, the students seeming to delight in openly gossiping about the two, and only, transfer students. Most rumors came with a snide or prudish remark about their social class and the possible implications that "commoners would soon overcome the school." Kagome rolled her eyes and paid the comment no mind; after all, she had heard far worse as a miko that had traveled in a skirt during the Edu period- now that was something to be embarrassed about. These children knew nothing of war or the dangers of prejudice by ignorant people; if anything, that is what they encompassed with their wealth. They knew nothing of the world beyond their pampered lives.
Kagome sighed; she doubted the youkai here would even know what to do if she exposed herself as a miko; they'd either panic, run, or fight, though she had only felt a handful of youkai on campus that would pose a challenge. No wonder the Dean of Students had been curious of what her presence may bring.
Looking towards the library, Kagome spotted what at first appearance seemed to be a boy; they were dressed in worn formal pants and shoes along with a weathered sweater. But having already met the other scholarship student, Kagome knew it to be Haruhi. Something must have happened to the girl since the last time they met for her appearance to change so drastically in such a short period of time.
With a warm smile, she approached the frazzled girl. Her short brown hair was mused and messy, with her bangs and shabby haircut falling into her gentle face."Hi Fujioka-san, everything alright?"
The young teen jumped, doe-eyes framed by thick frames, quickly meeting her own. She looked confused for a second, and then, as if having an 'ah-ha' moment, her eyes widened. "Oh Higurashi-san," she bowed lightly in greeting, a cool composer falling over her face with a gentle smile. "I'm just trying to find a quiet place to study."
Her shoulders fell. "Is this one crowded too?" Kagome asked dejectedly. Kagome had already gone to all the libraries on campus and had found each bursting with students that didn't understand the concept of using their "inside voices."
Haruhi nodded in defeat. "Stupid rich kids," she muttered, and Kagome laughed.
Gesturing with her own books toward the quieter halls up ahead. "Want to join me in my search for a quiet place to study?"
The girl nodded with a soft, please.
Kagome chuckled lightly. "What happened to your hair Fujioka-san?"
The girl looked at her owlishly before examining a long bit of her bangs. "Some kid in my neighborhood put gum in my hair."
Kagome briefly grimaced, recalling when her brother had gotten some stuck in her hair. It had been quite a traumatic process getting it out. "I think it suits you," she offered with a smile.
Haruhi beamed, her gentle beauty dazzling even Kagome as she smiled, and heat colored her pale cheeks. "Thank you, Higurashi-san," she paused. "Higurashi-san?"
"Please feel free to call me Kagome."
The teen nodded with a pleased smile. "Kagome, why are you wearing the boy's uniform, if you don't mind me asking."
"Have you seen the girl's uniforms?" She teased, and both girls laughed, both agreeing that the uniforms were loathsome compared to the male uniform and their own previous uniforms they'd had to wear. But Kagome was still surprised that Haruhi had only asked so as not to misgender her, which Kagome found very thoughtful of the other teen.
They continued to talk softly, going over most of the topics they had gone over in class as they turned down a quiet hallway. And then Haruhi noticed a quiet room. Despite the sign saying the room ahead was a music room, unlike any of the libraries, there wasn't a sound to be heard. And although it seemed like the perfect place to study, the aura of six youkai behind the large white doors informed her that this room was very much taken.
"Kagome-chan, let's check out this room. It's so quiet on this side of the building," the teen smiled, grabbing Kagome's hand before she could protest and opened the large double doors.
For the briefest of moments, there was a flash of light, and the soft tinkle of piano filled the once-silent room.
Their youki expanded, rushing forth to surround her, poking and prodding at her concealed aura, searching for any crack in her defenses. The action had her heart racing and breath hitching in her throat, pulling the scent of magic and roses into her lungs. Her reiryoku surged under her skin, wanting to fight back against the sudden and rude youki that prodded about her person. Still, she held back, unsure that she would be safe despite the Chairman's reassurance.
Across from the two women, both dressed as the opposite gender, sat six posed male students. If Kagome didn't know any better, she would have thought they had been waiting in that pose, it sounded ridiculous, yet they looked just as absurd. Five members lounged across one another while surrounding the person sitting within an ornate golden chair with luxurious red cushions: it looked like a throne.
Each male exuded an air of power, backed not only by the wealth that encompassed their lives but in their youki, blanketing the room in warm, almost inviting curls. For a moment, Kagome almost found herself blushing. The warmth and almost intimate way their youki reached out and caressed her made her both embarrassed and irritated, that they had no shame in how they prodded at her concealed aura.
Of the six young youkai, two of them screamed danger. A stoic man, whose lean physique loomed over the group, looked rather stand-offish with a bored expression and somewhat understated masculine presence. But his silver eyes were piercing, matching the underlying tension within his posture; he was ready to fight at a second's notice. Yet, he didn't look as intimating despite the feeling of protectiveness that he exuded, which mostly had to do with the small blonde hanging from his shoulders.
The small blonde was smiling, looking as carefree as a child, even looking like a young pre-teen with large golden-brown eyes and bushy blonde hair. He looked as threatening as a kitten, but Kagome felt as if she were about to face off to the death against one of Sesshomaru's generals. The power that came off him was terrifying, but his aura was rather pleasant and inviting.
Those two had to be the most powerful, but at the moment weren't the ones prying at her masked aura.
No, that one was the one that reminded her of a serpent. He was lean and posed, with a mature air about him, but from the rude prodding of his aura, Kagome could already tell that he didn't care about people's boundaries and coveted information. If she didn't know better, she would wager that the glasses-wearing male was a dragon, mainly because he seemed to be a man of pride and greed, something that most (at least the ones she'd met) dragons almost always possessed.
Then there were the kitsunes. Of course, that was merely an instinctual guess, but they felt so much like her Shippo that Kagome could easily picture the mischievous-looking duo with a foxtail, or two, swishing behind them. They looked to be twins, but their auras were different. One was calmer and light, while the other seemed to shutter and darken anxiously.
Finally was the blue-eyed blonde sitting in the thrown. He beamed happily, his aura shining brightly in welcome and curling around the room as if to hug and coddle everyone in the room. He smiled with a gentle kindness that only made him look more handsome and exotic looking. But Kagome was immediately surprised to feel he wasn't a full-blooded youkai; he wasn't half, but he wasn't full either. He was something else: somewhere in between.
"Welcome!" they greeted in unison before the blonde quickly spoke, grinning at their puzzled faces. "Only those with excellent social standing and those from filthy rich families are lucky enough to spend their time here at the elite private school, Ouran Academy. The Ouran Host Club is where the school's most handsome boys, with too much time on their hands, entertain young ladies who also have way too much time on their hands. Just think of it as Ouran Academy's elegant playground for the super-rich and beautiful."
Kagome looked at them, dumbfounded. What a stupid club!?
"A host club?" Haruhi questioned dumbly, no doubt just as bewildered by the club as Kagome.
The orange-haired duo then piped up in unison, both looking somewhat surprised. "Oh, wow, it's a boy!"
"Men are valuable patrons too, so stifle it," the blonde corrected.
The dark-haired one with glasses looked them over with a calculated glace before addressing the twins mirthfully. "Hikaru, Kaoru, I believe these young men are in the same class as you, correct?"
"Well, yeah, but they're both rather shy. They haven't acted very sociably, so we don't know much about them." The twins answered boredly as if they could care less about the two of them.
"Hm. Well, that wasn't very polite." He smirked. The look gave Kagome the chills. He looked as if he had just learned something important in that small interaction. That boy definitely rubbed her the wrong way.
"Welcome to the Ouran Host Club, Mr. Haruhi Fujioka and Mr. Kagome Higurashi," The blonde exclaimed excitedly. "You're the two exceptional honor students we've heard about."
"How did you know my name?" Haruhi asked, shocked and noticeably uncomfortable.
"Why, you're both infamous. It's not every day that a commoner gains entrance into our academy. Both of you must have an audacious nerve to work hard enough to fight your way into this school as an honor student."
"Well, uh, thank you, I guess," Haruhi grumbled irritably while Kagome openly sneered at the group of rude demons.
Kagome growled lowly. "No need for such back-handed comments."
The blonde continued with an ignorant air as if he hadn't been listening as he approached the struggling brunette beside her. "You're welcome. You're true heroes to other poor people. You've shown the world that even a poor person can excel at an elite private academy. It must be hard for you to constantly be looked down upon by others."
"I said that your back-handed comments weren't appreciated," Kagome snapped, stepping between the blonde and Haruhi. "You're taking this "poor" thing too far."
He continued, again, ignoring Kagome. "Spurned. Neglected. But that doesn't matter now. Long live the poor! We welcome you, poor men, to our world of beauty."
"I'm outta here." Haruhi glowered, and Kagome nodded. These pompous rich kids were unnecessarily rude, their attitudes making Kagome wonder if their treatment of her and Haruhi was based on their social class or their species. Either way, the males' treatment of them was uncalled for.
The short blonde then came bouncing over, taking Haruhi by the hand, stopping them from what would have been their freedom. "Hey! Come back here, Haru-chan! You must be like a superhero or something. That's so cool!"
Trying her best to shake off the male, irritation entered her tired voice. "I'm not a hero. I'm an honor student. And who are you calling "Haru-chan"!?" She finished with a scream.
"I never would've imagined that the famous scholars would be so openly gay. Are you two dating?" The tall blonde asked cheekily while slipping an arm around Haruhi's shoulders
"Openly, what?!" Haruhi and Kagome cried in unison, red tinting both of their faces.
The blonde looped his other arm around Kagome's shoulders. "So tell me what kind of guys you're into. Do you like the strong, silent type?-" He motioned over to the tall and muscular dark-haired male. He gave the two a slow nod of his head, silver eyes gentle and even empathic.
"-The boy Lolita?-" the blonde continued, pointing them to the shorter blonde with his warm honey eyes. He was adorable, even a little charming, but he screamed danger to Kagome.
"-How about the mischievous type-" He pointed them toward the twins. They smiled mischievously, violet streaking across their gold eyes. Kagome found them rather enduring, no doubt because she was partial to kitsunes in nature.
"-or the cool type?" This was when Kagome came face to face with the glasses-wearing serpent boy. She glared at him defiantly. This guy screamed jerk. They all did. He just seemed to be the most arrogant of the bunch.
Haruhi stuttered uncomfortably. "Uh... I, uh... It's not like that. I- we- were just looking for a quiet place to study."
The blonde turned Haruhi- Kagome really wished they had more manners. Didn't they know it was also rude to call someone by their name without offering them their name! The blonde intimately pulled the petite girl close, allowing Kagome to slip from his grasp. "Or maybe... You're into a guy like me. What do you say?"
"Uh!" She screamed, leaping from his arms.
It was as if the next scene were playing out in slow motion. Jumping away from the blonde, Haruhi fell back into one of the large vases in the room. Realizing this, she spun around, Kagome even dropping to help her, both reaching for the large ornate vase, and still, it slipped away from them. Clattering to the ground in a loud shattering of glass, the girls slumped in defeat. They looked at each other, fear entering their eyes.
The twins, Hikaru and Kaoru (the only ones whose names she's learned so far) crowded them with an audible "Aww!"
"We were going to feature that Renaissance vase in an upcoming school auction." Hikaru tsked disappointedly.
Kaoru nodded. "Oh, now you've done it, commoner. The bidding on that vase was supposed to start at ¥8,000,000!"
"What? ¥8,000,000!? How many thousand yen is that? How many thousands are in a million?"
Kagome fell to the ground, defeated. How had it ended up like this? All they wanted to do was find a quiet place to study.
"We're going to have to pay you back, aren't we?" Kagome sighed.
Panicked, Haruhi turned to her. "No, Kagome, I couldn't ask that of you. It was my fault it broke."
Kagome shook her head and smiled gently. "How could I leave you to the wolves?" Then she stood glaring heatedly at the dumb blonde. "If there is anyone to blame, it's that handsy pervert over there."
The group continued as if they hadn't heard her, irritating Kagome to no end.
"Well, what do you think we should do, Tamaki?" So that's what the blonde's name was; now she knew what to call the handsy pervert.
"You may have heard a famous saying, Mr. Fujioka, "When in Rome, you should do as the Romans do." Since you have no money, you can pay with your body. That means you two will be the Host Club's dogs starting today."
Kagome growled audibly; she really didn't like this club one bit.
'What the hell have I gotten myself into now?'

Inuyasha Bingo Bonanza 2022
happy november lovelies! 💕 So excited for the many things coming this month
Tōtōsai’s Craft
read on ao3
“Thank you all for gathering for the special occasion as we share in the happiness of Inuyasha and Kagome….” The old priestess announced with a grin, Tōtōsai placing Myōga on his left shoulder so the flea could see better. Giving the clearing a solid observation, he hummed his approval.
The happy couple held hands, both the hanyō and miko clothed in traditional human wedding attire while the ones they considered family surrounded them as they began their vows in front of the Goshinboku. To their left, clutching three tiny children, were the monk and taijiya with the tiny fox kit at their feet.
To the right of the tree, much to his surprise, was Sesshōmaru and his little following, the human girl and the imp. If anyone were to glance at the daiyōukai, they would think he was bored, but if you knew the demon, you could see the faintest hints of a smile on his lips and a flash of sincerity in his eyes. Seems as if the pups are getting along well these days. Though, I suppose that has something to do with the defeat of that awful spider hanyō.
“Master Tōtōsai,” Myōga whispered, “I never thought this day would come, especially between the two brothers. The Inu no Taishō’s final wishes are coming true.”
He hummed his approval. As the gray haired human continued to speak, his mind filled with the memory of his first meeting with Tōga, Lord of the West, centuries ago.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hammer swinging down, the blade morphing to his will, Tōtōsai almost missed the faint footsteps coming to stop behind him. He paused for a second, the stranger’s non-threatening, but powerful aura washing over him.
“Go away, I don’t have time for whatever ya need.” He grumbled, raising his hammer once more.
“Not even for the Lord of the West?” A deep voice chuckled. Sighing, he lowered his arm, deciding it time for a break anyways. He loved what he did, his particular craft of weapons were known all over the countryside, even far enough to the west it seemed, but sometimes this cave was just too damn hot. Turning around, he beckoned the Lord closer, peering at him in the cave’s light.
“Tōtōsai, I presume?” The inu daiyōukai smiled, his fangs gleaming.
“Yah, what do ya need?” He wiped the sweat from his brow, taking in his appearance. While Tōtōsai wore a simple forest green and black striped kimono, this demon wore a white kimono and hakama, a hadagi undershirt, a spiked rim attached to the upper section of his black breastplate with a "lotus petal" fauld that possess a grayish color trim, a long flowing sash with details, and armored boots that contains black, all with the addition of an eastern land’s influence.
He also wore black and light grayish purple armored gauntlets, a layered spiked pauldron on each shoulder, and a parted pelt that extends from both shoulders and trails behind him as he walks; representing the two streaks of fur running down the back of his yōkai form.
Tōga appeared as a tall and slender man. He had tan skin, slanted golden eyes with slit pupils, and long white hair that was tied up into a very high ponytail by a dark blue ribbon with short wavy bangs. Like other full-blooded yōkai, he has pointed ears as well as fangs and claws. He also had wide, jagged violet stripes on the cheeks, a magenta stripe on each eyelid, and black eyebrows.
Tōtōsai knew who he was, the Lord of the Western Lands, the Great Dog General, as many called him the Inu no Taisho, had made his way to Tōtōsai’s cave. He had heard of his strength and now, feeling his impressive demonic aura, he knew that whatever weapon this demon requested would become the most perfect thing he would ever create.
However, Tōtōsai didn’t give out swords just because someone asked, he would determine if the individual were even capable of handling such a thing, if somehow the person was planning on using it to destroy innocents, then he would send them on their way, empty handed.
“I have heard of your skills, of how you are able to infuse weapons with yōkai to defeat one’s foes.”
“Let me guess, you need me to create a sword so you can become even more powerful than you already are, to defeat some distant enemy that is coming to steal your wife or something like that?”
At his question, Tōga bursted into laughter, slapping his hand on Tōtōsai’s back so hard, he had to refrain from grunting. Damn, he is strong. Blinking slowly, he waited for the man to stop, unsure of what exactly was so funny. Maybe I’m getting senile.
“Close, but not really. I’m already strong, I just need a weapon that can harness the abilities and power from the one it’s slain.”
“If you’re so capable already, why do you need it?” He crossed his arms, trying to decipher this man’s intentions. The smile fell from his face and Tōga settled himself on a nearby stone, features passive as he explained.
“I am to create an heir and my oh-so-wise council suggests soon.” He waved his hand nonchalantly and Tōtōsai wondered if this had anything to do with his request, but stood there silently, listening. “I know that once I do, many from all over will come and attempt to take their life and their mother’s solely for the fact that they will be my heir. I want to be able to protect them at all costs and hopefully one day, gift them the sword when they have someone to protect themselves.”
“Hmmmm, it’s a noble request and I don’t get many of those.” Tōtōsai rolled his eyes at the many times men had come barging in, demanding something that would obliterate everyone in its path, only for him to light the ground at their feet on fire. “It’s doable, but I will need something of yours that will make it even stronger.”
“Anything!” Tōga leapt up, the smile back on his face.
“I need….” He grinned, ideas flowing through his head on just what he could create with such a thing. “Your fang.”
“You have a deal.” When the demon lord held out his hand, he firmly grasped it as he pulled a pair of pliers from his kimono. “Now, open wide.”
It had taken him a full fortnight to create the damn blade, “Tessaiga” as Tōga would come to call it, the “Steel-Cleaving Fang” or “Sword of Destruction”. The sword, a rusty, battered katana in its everyday form, would transform into a blade with the Inu’s own yōkai. The sheath, made from Bokusenō’s wood, protected the sword, even creating a barrier for anyone who was not capable of wielding the blade.
Its main attack, the “wind scar” as many would come to call it later, could take out a hundred lives in one stroke. It was clearly an immensely powerful weapon, one that would serve its purpose, just as he had intended.
He had to admit, when Tōga stepped out from the cave, bringing his creation to life, Tōtōsai was pretty damn proud of himself. After that, word had spread exponentially and he was booming with business. It gave him the opportunity to deny someone even more if he felt that they were not worthy enough for such a weapon. He delighted in that many times.
Years later, he was visited again by Tōga when Sesshōmaru was still a young pup, asking to split his blade in two. Not quite understanding the situation, Tōtōsai simply searched for the answer himself. He had held the blade in his palms, Tessaiga’s energy guiding him through what happened, as if it had a mind of its own.
Tōga had defeated Shishinki and gained the technique Meido Zangetsuha, but it wasn’t something that fit, the skill dangerous. He spent another fortnight removing a part of Tessaiga’s blade to create the new, thinner blade. With this one, one could use the technique, slicing a hole into the underworld, while also being able to bring someone back from the dead.
He had suggested Tōga call it “Coffin Cheater”, but much to Tōtōsai’s dismay, the demon went for Tenseiga, the ‘Heavenly Rebirth Fang” or “Sword of Life”. When he had asked what he would do with it, he replied that he was unsure, but something so powerful shouldn’t be in just anyone’s hands and he would hold onto it.
It had been many years since his last encounter with the Lord of the West, Tōtōsai never receiving an answer directly, but heard rumors about him falling in love with a human hime and a new pup arriving soon.
After Tōga's death for his final battle with Izayoi's old guardsman, the samurai Takemaru of Setsuna, Tōtōsai came to the burned mansion where he saw Myōga crying in grief, and Saya, Sō’unga’s spirited sheath, joining him. He tells them that "crying won't bring the Great Dog Demon back from the grave." and asked Myōga if he disposed of the Tessaiga according to his will, and Myōga answered that he did, he placed the Tessaiga in his master's domains located in the Border of the Afterlife and the path to it within the Black Pearl.
He knew Sesshōmaru would come hunting for Tessaiga, so he placed it in a place that would not easily be found, the daiyokai’s gravesite. Then Tōtōsai gave the Tenseiga to their old friend Bokusenō that it's for Sesshōmaru, as Myōga asked that he didn't gave it to him all by himself, he answered "If I lived so dangerously, I'd never have made it to this ripe old age."
It left one problem: Sō'unga. Saya suggested to Tōtōsai to give Sō'unga to Sesshōmaru, but Tōtōsai refused that he's already upset with them as it is, over being bequeathed Tenseiga, and Myōga thinks that they can't give it Inuyasha, because he's just a baby. Saya suggested he'd hold the sword off quietly for 700 years, and tells them to place him along with the sword into the Bone-Eater's Well in the land of Musashi.
As he headed back to his castle, hearing the soft cry of a new born babe in the distance, Tōtōsai wondered if he could ever create such a weapon ever again, putting his unique craft aside, in hopes that one day, the two sons of the great Inu no Taishō would come together.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
It only took a couple hundred years, but it seems they have come together, more or less. Sesshōmaru even has a blade of his own now, with a new arm to go with. As much as he wished he could claim that he made Bakusaiga, the sword came from the daiyōukai’s own demonic power and was truly his own, surpassing his father’s power. The baka only had to give up on his obsession with Tessaiga. Even so, Tōga would be proud of how far the two have come. Inuyasha was able to wield the Tessaiga with his own yōkai intertwined, passing his father’s strength as well. Myōga was correct, the Inu no Taishō’s final wishes are coming true.
Glancing at the fangs that hung on each warrior’s hip, he felt their aura pulse out, as if greeting an old friend. Smiling softly, he was still proud of his handiwork, even if he may never find one to create such a beauty ever again.
“Oi, ya old geezer.” A hard tap on his forehead had Tōtōsai glaring at the newly wedded hanyō, “Ceremony’s done and ya fell asleep.” Insolent pup. Blinking, he tilted his head to the side, his trademark blank stare forming.
“Was that what this was?” He questioned, playing dumb.
“Forgetting things at your age, huh?” Inuyasha snickered.
“Must you insult every elder of yours, little brother?” Sesshōmaru sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Come Rin, it is time to head to the priestess’s hut.”
A bubbly giggle from his right had Tōtōsai glancing to see Kagome smiling at him with bright, blue eyes. There were rumors of her pure soul, it seems they were right. Her aura brushed against his, lifting his heart in many ways as the group began to drift towards the human village for celebration. I wonder if I could craft something with her spiritual powers. It might just be time to dust off my tools.

June 13th, 2022 - Role Reversal
Song: Ashes by Celine Dion
Summary: A limited yet calculated body snatching incident.
Disclaimer: Here I am. Continuing on my trend of choosing the most random and incorrect interpretation of the prompt.
Tumblr media
Letting out a shuddering breath, Inuyasha took an involuntary step back - his entire body trembling as the world crashed down on him. In the span of thirty seconds, Inuyasha made it through the first four stages of grief then circled back to experience all four at once. Well, save one. Kinda. There was no doubt in his mind that what was just admitted wasn’t true although part of his mind was desperately praying this was a cruel joke.
Because surely, surely the powers had better things to do than continue to find increasingly devastating ways to punish him for existing and execute the people who dare love him.
It would’ve been better for everyone if that arrow in his heart still pinned his corpse to that tree. Better yet, he wished that at least one of the people who’d tried to kill him over the years had been successful. He’d even take being held prisoner and someone inflicting excruciating never ending torture at this point. Having a limb amputated. Getting his eyes gouged out or being mutilated in any number of ways. Anything other than this.
“W-why?”
The woman who had stolen Kagome’s face sighed and held her hands up in surrender. She arrived mere minutes before announcing that there had been a ‘complication that needed addressing’. Inuyasha immediately knew something was wrong - his miko would never talk so formally- and was just about to start his interrogation when Kikyo made that unnecessary by admitting, out loud, that she was inhabiting Kagome’s body. The second that sound hit his ears his heart withered up and died. Yet again he was the reason Kagome got hurt. A catalyst for unimaginable suffering. He might as well have killed her himself…
A painful sounding gasp for air escaped him as he struggled to cope with the latest and most horrific thing that had ever happened in the history of shitty things. Every part of his being spasmed and despite his best efforts, his mind was splintering.
“Inuyasha-“
Trailing off when the half-demon furiously shook his head and seemed to be struggling to breathe, the formerly undead miko glanced anxiously around at the rest of the motley crew who seemed eager to kill her yet reluctant to do so.
“I-is she alive?” Inuyasha finally managed to choke out - his face pale and a cold sweat breaking out over his forehead, “O-or…”
“She is inhabiting my body. I did not put her there,” Kikyo offered slowly - feeling rather strange to use a voice that did not belong to her, “Please understand. She must not be allowed to come near us. I cannot control-“
“And why is that?”
This time it was the slayer who asked the question and the almost tangible venom chilled Kikyo’s borrowed blood.
“Our soul wants to reunite and become whole once more. It has always been this way,” she replied in as calm a tone as she could muster, “My hatred and determination allowed me to resist the urge. The unfinished business I held in what was lest in my heart enough to keep my soul-“
Inuyasha flinched and she amended.
“To keep the piece of Kagome’s soul within my vessel. However, Kagome has no darkness in her heart. That purity-“
“She does,” Inuyasha managed to get out - just loud enough for the others to hear - as one hand reached up to dig into scalp, “B-because of me. This i-is my fault.”
“If true, then she has a chance,” Kikyo offered awkwardly yet in a seemingly reassuring manner, “But Inuyasha, anyone with eyes knows she loves you. I doubt that love tainted her in-“
“No. No,” Inuyasha breathed painfully before shaking his head and looking desperately into the trees, “I n-need to find her. I gotta go. I s-should g-go.”
“I agree,” Kikyo offered before blushing and absently pulling at the obscenely short skirt, “But be warned. What you find may not be what you expect. That existence is strange.”
“If she c-can save me, I c-can save her,” Inuyasha breathed infinitely less confident than he felt as he began clumsily walking forward, “I n-need you guys to watch her body, o-okay?”
As his friends nodded, Inuyasha took off - his mind filled with static and panic frankly clouding his judgment.
This was all his fault. All his fault.
There weren't words adequate to describe the sheer panic and despair coursing through Inuyasha's veins as he raced through the trees. The cherry on top was naturally the all too familiar crushing guilt. The knowing that whatever was happening was entirely his fault. Kagome was dying and/or dead because he didn't have the balls to end things with his cold undead bitch of an ex. His actions hadn’t been noble. If anything, his mindless devotion was straight up suicidal and pathetically sad.
And now Kagome was the one paying the ultimate price for his failures. Probably, no definitely, alone and believing he wouldn’t even know it wasn’t her. Or worse, that he did know and went along with Kikyo’s sadistic plan because of aforementioned mindless devotion.
Sure, before now, abandoning Kikyo wasn't even an option. Never once crossed his mind. They had a history and he had loved her. It wasn't her fault that she was brought back in such an unnatural way and he thought there might be still time to save her. And...well, okay, so he hoped they could get back together. But that last bit was only for a little while and then, once the trauma subsided, he slowly realized that who he wanted to be with was Kagome. Which came with its own issues. Did he only like Kagome because she was Kikyo's reincarnation? Should he take a chance on someone who was definitely going to leave - whether by choice or grand design? Was he really that pathetic that he fell for any woman who was nice to him? So many questions. Very few answers.
But one thing was certain. Clearer than ever even. He loved Kagome. He loved her. Whatever he thought he’d had with Kikyo paled in comparison. He’d come off relatively unscathed from how things ended with Kikyo. Traumatized, yes, and shamefully pathetic but he could still function. He was still largely okay. Could breathe.
If he lost Kagome…
Just thinking about that possibility made his heart start skipping beats and stole the oxygen straight from his lungs. The second Kagome died, he’d follow soon after. One way or another.
Catching the fading scent of graveyard soil, Inuyasha instantly changed direction and increased his speed. His heart pounding faster than his feet were hitting the ground.
The stupid bitch probably wasn’t even taking on souls so he’d have more time to find her and undo what had been done. Every second away from her made it infinitely more possible she’d die without ever even knowing…
She probably thought he was in on this. That he’d wanted this. That he…
"Kagome!?" Inuyasha screamed desperately as he slid to a halt and glanced around the open clearing that reeked of graveyard soil. She was just here. He’d been so close but she left. She left…
"KAGOME?! Come back! I know its you! Please come back to me! Please. Please?!”
Tumblr media
Honestly? She should’ve seen this coming. Kikyo had had issues with her since the moment that cold undead bitch woke up in a false body. Up until now, Kagome had refrained from calling Kikyo names or being anything other than hurt by the situation but now? Look, it was one thing to try to kill her. Murder attempts and manipulated tactics she could handle. Those types of things were so commonplace that they almost were predictable at this point. But somehow switching bodies with her? Yeah. No. Too far Kikyo. Too far.
To be honest, Kagome didn’t even know what hurt her the most. That her consciousness had been rudely torn from her body or the fact that two days gone by without Inuyasha noticing. Their friends too seemed completely oblivious. Either Kikyo was the best actress in the world (doubtful) or her friends didn’t know her at all or, worst of all, they didn’t care.
What made all of this so much more mind boggling was that they were maybe a week out from the waterfall incident when she’d saved Kikyo on that fateful day. Stuffed to the brim with miasma, Kikyo would have crumpled into ash without that intervention. And Inuyasha…Inuyasha had actually stayed…
Maybe that was the straw that broke Kikyo’s back. Inuyasha didn’t go to her. A sign that he’d actually moved on. Reality was that he was just trying to be overly nice because she maybe might have said she hated him and that impulsive outburst had hurt. It has just kinda slipped out after an emotional rollercoaster of a day. Kagome barely remembered saying it at all but she must have given Inuyasha’s behavior.
In any case, there were still some things in the newly undead miko’s control. Refusing to take in souls for one. While Kikyo might not have had a problem eating someone’s life force, it bothered Kagome immensely. After all, she was literally a reincarnation and the logical consequence of devouring a soul would be ending a chain of reincarnation. She couldn’t do it. Not today. Not ever.
And, of course, she could go wherever she wanted with speed her normal body could never match. She’d learned very quickly and very painfully what happened if she got too close to her former body. Even from relatively far away, Kikyo pulled on some invisible leash and tried to rip the soul piece straight out of her chest.
She ran. As far and as fast as she could because if she was going to go out, she was going out on her own terms.
Tumblr media
“There are only so many ways to tell the truth. This was not my doing,” a very annoyed and aloof Kikyo sighed in her reincarnation’s voice, “What would I gain by doing so?”
“Oh let’s see, shall we? Second chance with Inuyasha? Destroy us from the inside? Oh, just to be evil?” Sango snapped bitterly - glancing up from sharpening her sword with a hateful glare, “Why should we believe anything you have to say?”
“If that is true, why would I inform you for the transference? There has been no deceit and I have not once attempted to leave,” Kikyo huffed exasperatedly, “Much has changed. If you do not believe me, that is your issue.”
As the slayer continued letting out every bad thought she’d ever had where Kikyo was concerned, Miroku and Kaede sat together. Each of them deep in thought. It had been two days since a very panicked and heartbroken Inuyasha had rushed after Kagome. An action that should’ve garnered a negative and extreme reaction from the long dead Kikyo who honestly had been very cooperative. Given her rampaging and questionable decision making since her rebirth, this behavior did lend credence to her assertion that this was not her fault and her admission that she’d forgiven Inuyasha. Was willing to let him live with her reincarnation and would seek to hurt him no longer. ‘Twas the waterfall incident that changed her outlook. Allegedly, of course.
But the question still lingered. How was this possible?
“Did ye have any encounters with Naraku? Or one of his incarnations, perhaps?” Kaede finally spoke and somewhat startled by the calm tone, Kikyo glanced up at her sister.
“Not that I recall. That does not mean I have ruled him out as a suspect,” Kikyo offered quietly, “In fact, he is my primary one. Kagome will most likely allow my body to die whereas I am much more vulnerable in a mortal form. The miasma he exposed me to would have disintegrated human flesh.”
“True. And I doubt he would have expected you to admit outright you were not Kagome,” Miroku offered thoughtfully - his jaw setting then resetting, “There is also the added benefit that having to resolve this issue would cause a delay in our mission.”
Kikyo nodded once before looking down at the hands in her lap.
“Onigumo was in love with you,” Kaede commented with a bemused sigh as she got to her feet in a very elderly style, “Perhaps the second chance he wanted was to live with you as man and wife.”
Kikyo made a face that could only be described as disgust. Sango and Miroku exchanged a strange glance at the unexpected showing of emotion. Kikyo was notoriously stoic but this was a very visceral reaction. Maybe, just maybe, being in a clay body repressed her natural state of being. What that meant for Kagome they had no clue…
“That will never happen.”
“Then why did you team up with him before?” Sango snapped - still very much wanting to believe that Kikyo was the ultimate mastermind behind this horrible turn of events and disliking any suggestion that she was mistaken.
“Arrogance? Rage? Bitterness? Hatred?” Kikyo offered before sighing heavily and pushing the wild hair away from her face, “I could no more explain my state of mind than control the sun. That existence is strange…”
“And what about Inuyasha?” Sango challenged again - holding her sword out by the hilt as though daring the undead priestess to say the wrong thing, “What about him?”
“Inuyasha deserves...” Kikyo began before cutting herself off short and averting her eyes, “A great deal. Kagome...Kagome is worthy of him and therefore I am content.”
Scoffing in disgust, Sango lolled her head to give a skeptical glare at Miroku who seemed both unsure and yet hopeful.
“Worthy of him?” Kaede repeated.
Kikyo nodded - her eyes downcast while she played with her hands.
“Yes. Kagome loves him. Unconditionally. I would call that worthy,” she offered quietly, “And Inuyasha loves her, even if he refuses to acknowledge it. If I had not admitted outright that I was not my reincarnation, I have full faith that he would have realized quite quickly that something was wrong.”
Making a face, the undead priestess laughed softly, “His faith in his friends is also awe-inspiring. There was no doubt behind his agreement when you offered to protect this body.”
Sango huffed.
“We would never betray him,” she spat acidly, “Unlike some people we know.”
A sad smile and a nod of agreement.
“I am aware.”
A tense silence permeated the hut.
“There has to be some way to undo this. A key of some kind,” Miroku sighed heavily as he got to his feet and brushed himself off, “Perhaps Mushin will know more.”
“You want us to travel with her?” Sango scoffed in disbelief, “Are you insane?”
Giving the slayer a patient look, Miroku adjusted the beads around his wrist and raised an eyebrow in silent challenge.
“Do you have any better ideas?”
“No but-”
“Then to Mushin’s temple we go.”
Tumblr media
Kagura had to admit that Naraku’s latest plot was surprisingly fool proof. Playing into Inuyasha’s indecisiveness where the two mikos were involved, it would undoubtedly delay the group while also getting rid of the biggest threat to Naraku’s existence. Part of what made Kagome so formidable was the lack of darkness in her heart - save one infinitesimal stain - and Kikyo seemed to survive every attack thrown at her. By switching their consciousness, one or both would be destroyed. Inuyasha picks Kikyo? Kagome is eradicated from the world and the clay body is no more. Better yet, the misfit group of mercenaries become divided and broken since his friends’ would never forgive him. Those bastards on their own comprised much less of a threat individually and Naraku’s victory would be sealed. Inuyasha picks Kagome? Kikyo is eradicated from the world and the clay body is no more. Inuyasha is devastated and likely will drive everyone away out of guilt. Kagome’s soul would have been tainted by the exposure to evil and as a result, would become a less formidable opponent.
In short, Naraku comes out victorious on his side quest to punish the undead miko for not returning his creepy, disturbing feelings for her. After all, who wouldn’t want to be with Naraku? Other than every woman in all of existence.
That all being said, Kagura had to admit that the switching of bodies was an impressive feat. First of its  kind even. And with all the terms and conditions tagged on top of it? After everything Naraku had done to date, this might very well be his masterpiece.
Assuming, of course, that Inuyasha actually made a decision. Based on his track record and from what the wind sorceress knew of the parties involved, a satisfying victory seemed highly unlikely. If she had to guess, Kagome would end up starving herself to death and Kikyo would live to see another day before the half-demon had any say in the matter.
Not that it actually mattered. No matter which way this went, Naraku won.
Tumblr media
“Why are you here?” came a familiar voice with all the familiar acid but there was something different about those familiar eyes that hit something deep inside of the half-demon. It was the damnedest thing. Normally whenever he met with Kikyo, he felt hollow. Numb even. The echo of love he had once felt growing more faint with each meeting.
But these eyes? For the first time in the past four days, he could breathe again and relief washed over him in waves.
“I came for you.”
A condescending scoff.
“Hate to break it to ya but-”
“I know who you are, Kagome. I’m not an idiot,” Inuyasha snapped a little desperately, “I’ve been looking for you everywhere! I came to bring you home.”
That clay body went rigid as she slowly turned to face him.
“You know-“
“I promised I wouldn’t leave you again, didn’t I?” Inuyasha tried – his voice shaking as he uncharacteristically rubbed at his upper arm, “So…”
“I can’t go back,” Kagome interrupted bluntly before a little anger and bitterness seeped into her voice, “Your little girlfriend tries to take my soul anytime I go near her.”
”Then I’ll stay with you,” Inuyasha countered – his eyes betraying his internal screaming, “I will. We can figure this out together. Just listen-“
“Why should I listen to anything you have to say? Haven’t you gotten what you wanted?” Kagome hissed acidly and with a very pronounced flinch, the anguish in Inuyasha’s gaze increased ten fold. The situation was escalating quickly and in the worst possible way. Maybe this was what Kikyo meant by her cryptic warning.
“No. Never. I-I-“
“From the day I met you, you’ve been her dog. Hers. Going on and on about how much you loved her. You always talked down to me. Insulted me. Told me I’d never compare to the great murderous bitch! She tried to kill me and you fucking stood there and did nothing! Don’t tell me this isn’t what you wanted!” Kagome snarled angrily and fighting against the urge to react with anger, Inuyasha’s eyebrows shot straight into his bangs at the accusation. And her language. Opening his mouth to respond but couldn’t find the oxygen to form words. Instead, he simply shook his head as he swallowed repeatedly and his mouth moved in an effort to find his voice.
“I w-want you. I n-need you,” he finally managed - his voice strangely high pitched and faint, “Don’t you k-know that? I’d n-never want this.”
Setting her jaw, Kagome gave him a withering glare that made him feel very small and fragile.
“J-just let me stay,” he added barely above a whisper as he took a hesitant yet involuntary step forward, “I-I can’t-“
“Why would I let some half-breed hang around, huh?” Kagome snapped and Inuyasha flinched at the insult but took another step forward.
“Y-you go. I-I’ll follow. No m-matter how long-“
“Don’t waste your breath. I’m not your problem anymore. I’m not waiting around to…to eat people just to live another day,” Kagome spat hatefully - feeling more alive seeing him in pain than she had in the past two days.
“You’re really not taking in souls?” Inuyasha breathed anxiously – fear blossoming behind his eyes, “But…but you’ll die.”
“Already dead. Thanks for noticing,” Kagome snapped before spinning on her heel and preparing to march off. It was strange how the only emotions she could feel anymore were negative ones she usually ignored. Every ounce of hate, bitterness, rage, or depression coming out to play. There wasn’t even any pity for the broken looking man standing in front of her. No love or affection or anything she normally felt.
And when she fought against the negativity…
Just emptiness…
“Stop. Please?” Inuyasha managed to choke out when Kagome turned to leave – his feet moving on their own accord with his hand outstretched, “I-I…I won’t make you take in souls. I won’t. But don’t leave me.”
Kagome paused and tried to take a calming breath only to be reminded she didn’t breathe anymore.
“I have no-“
“I-I can’t do this without you,” he interrupted miserably as he continued stumbling forward, “We can fix this and…and…”
“Oh-ho you can do this without me. Have your pretty little body snatcher find the jewel-“
It was that comment that bubbled his pain and rage to the point where words finally and thankfully came.
“JUST SHUT UP!” Inuyasha screamed –every bit of pain he’d managed to stomp down making the sound chilling, “DON’T YOU GET IT?!  DAMMIT I NEED YOU!  YOU’RE EVERYTHING TO ME! FROM SUN UP TO SUN DOWN, ALL I THINK ABOUT IS YOU ANYMORE! I FUCKING LOVE YOU! YOU HEAR ME?! I LOVE…”
Mere seconds after Inuyasha verbalized his love, several things happened in quick succession. The remaining souls burst free. Kagome crumpled to her knees. Numerous cracks appeared and the clay vessel began crumpling to ash.
“No. No! NO!”
No amount of screams, however ardent, could stop the horrifying sight. There wasn’t even time to properly react although there was plenty of anguish behind the two pairs of eyes.
A choked strangled sound escaped him as he shakily made his way over to the pile where the false body had once been before kneeling down and mindlessly collecting the ash into his hands. The dust cascaded through his fingers like water through a sieve.
“C-come b-back,” Inuyasha managed in between great heaving sobs – the sounds of his heart shattering making the world around him go still, “P-Please. I…I…I’ll f-f-fix t-this…I-I can’t…”
Tumblr media
The rain pooled in small puddles around his body but Inuyasha didn’t have the desire to move. So, he remained where he’d been for the last two days – laying on his side in a fetal position unwilling to leave the last place Kagome had been. Moving would mean he had decided to keep living and, at the moment, he wasn’t sure he wanted to. Seemed like anytime he got involved in someone’s life they came off worse for it. Mother. Kikyo…
Kagome…
A choked sob escaped him as his legs drew up and he pressed his clasped hands against his chest. There was hardly anything in between them anymore and he knew it, but he didn’t dare confirm that fact visually. He’d had such dreams and hopes for the future. Plans even. Not that he ever told her what he wanted. Up until the moment she left this world, Kagome thought he loved Kikyo. If he had one regret, it was that he never…
Maybe it was the fact that he’d admitted he loved her out loud that killed her. Based on his experience, that logic followed. Every god damn time he loved someone they wound up dead. Usually, it was his fault too. Mother got sick but no one gave her medicine because she’d birthed a half-breed. Kikyo got murdered in some convolved plot because how dare she love him. Kagome…
A painful sounding whine escaped him as he turned his face onto the ground where she’d once stood. With devastating ease, he could almost hear her voice telling him it was okay. Smell her comforting scent. Feel her hands brushing the hair away from his face.
Amber eyes sluggishly blinked open upon the realization that someone was petting his face and talking to him above the torrential rain.
“F-fuck off Kikyo,” Inuyasha managed to choke out as he rolled away from the face that should’ve belonged to the woman he loved, “Y-you w-won. L-leave me a-alone…”
A heavily sigh before the most unwanted action in the world occurred. The bitch straight up laid down next to him and wrapped her arms around his chest.
“G-get off me,” Inuyasha half-sobbed – rolling again and lashing out with his foot. A foot that blindly and thankfully missed its target. It was then and only then that Inuyasha heard an awkward cough which brought his mind to a screeching halt.
Hazy amber eyes blinked away the rain and tears as they searched the girl’s face for some sign that all hope wasn’t lost. Was it fucked up that he didn’t even care that Kikyo would be gone if Kagome was back in her body? That was fucked up, right? Unfortunately, Inuyasha didn’t have the energy to sort through that strange reaction or even what he was seeing.
Because it was very clearly Kagome behind those mournful sapphire eyes – the love and affection and sympathy all her.
A heart wrenching sob tinged with hope and longing escaped at the sight.
“‘Gome?” Inuyasha whined miserably – his hands pressing together tightly just over his heart, “C-can’t b-be...”
“Then question me until you’re sure ,” the woman murmured – her hand reaching out to gently stroke his cheek. The feel of her skin was heavenly, and any will Inuyasha had to push those fingers away was vanquished. If it was her, a small part of him hoped she’d mistake the tears running down his cheeks for rain.
Slowly shaking his head, Inuyasha leaned into her touch and tried to find the will to keep living. Maybe he was already dead and this was the afterlife where she had been waiting for him…
But her waiting for him meant that she hadn’t died hating him. In the end, she hated him and had every right to feel that way. This wasn’t real. Couldn’t be real.
A pathetic whine lodged in his throat.
“I’m sorry for what I said, okay?” the most soothing voice offered quietly - her hand gently pushing his damp bangs off his face before returning to gently stroke his cheek, “I’m so sorry. I love you so, so much. You’re the best thing that has ever happened to me. Don’t you believe one thing I said. You understand?”
Jaw trembling, Inuyasha sluggishly shook his head. This had to be a trick. Kagome was gone because he had been too weak. Because he had failed her in every possible way. On every front.
Why wouldn’t a heart stop beating when you wanted it to?
“I l-loved h-her,” he whispered brokenly– his voice hoarse and despairing, “And s-she hated me.”
It was a strange statement to make given the circumstance but it was the only thing he could think to say.
“No. No I have never hated you,” the painful voice whispered, “I love you. So much.”
Watery amber yes opened slowly - agony and grief swirling in their depths.
“Y-you can’t be h-her. S’gone. I-I c-can’t…” he countered miserably - his face crumpling as he looked at her face but refused to meet her eyes.
“I know it seems that way but why don’t I tell you some things that might help?” Kagome offered before running the back of her hand across his cheek. Inuyasha’s face crumpled as he gave a single weak, jerky nod.
“One time you stole a ball off the court during gym class…”
Inuyasha let out a strange sob as he finally raised his gaze to meet hers. Recognition and hope hesitantly appearing behind his eyes.
“Went to the roof and stomped the poor inanimate object to death,” she continued and Inuyasha’s heaving chest faltered, “And once you blew a hole in our kitchen.”
She paused and gave him a strained yet playful smile. A strangled half-smile began playing with his lips.
“Mama told me later the cockroach lived. You didn’t even hit it.”
For the briefest of moments, Inuyasha remained curled in the mud before he weakly scooted forward and pressed his forehead against her damp black hair.
“M’sorry,” he half-sobbed as he dipped forward to press a trembling, desperate kiss atop her temple, “M’so sorry. M’sorry.”
“Shhhh. I’m okay. It’s okay,” she promised as she wrapped one arm around his back and tried to pull him closer – an action he complied with by scooting down and pressing his nose into her chest, “We need to get out of the rain, alright? Can you stand?”
A weak nod and a soft whine was his reply, yet he made no effort to move.
Kagome didn’t make him.
As the rain continued to pour down around them, Inuyasha remained curled up with his head tucked securely under her chin. Her arms held him securely in place while their friends watched on from beneath an umbrella. Of all the scenarios in which they’d wanted Inuyasha to choose their friend, Inuyasha not having a choice never occurred to them. Weirder still, it wasn’t grief for the loss of Kikyo they were witnessing. Over the past year, they had seen what that looked like and while it hadn’t been pretty, it hadn’t been like this. Seeing him this broken over losing Kagome had never even been in the realm of possibilities.
Yet here he was. Broken. Sobbing uncontrollably in both relief and despair. Curled up in a tight little ball within the arms of the woman he very clearly loved more than life itself.
“You’re okay,” Kagome whispered as she gave his trembling body a light squeeze followed by a kiss to his temple, “It’ll be okay.”
Tumblr media
The afterlife was a strange place. Dark. Quiet. Yet every once in a while, glimpses of what you left behind on earth would appear. So it was that Kikyo watched the small white orb hovering over her palms. Watched the relief and love playing out on Inuyasha’s face as he buried his nose in her reincarnation’s hair before they settled down for the night. In all the pictures she’d been given over the past several years, he seemed much more open and affectionate than he had been. Happier than he’d ever been yet there was still sadness lingering just below the surface. Regret blooming behind his eyes when he’d tuck strands of hair behind his love’s ear.
Kikyo prayed that regret was not for her sake.
Now that she wasn’t in a vessel which corrupted her soul, it was easier to remember the good times and the love she’d felt for him.  The desire to see him happy resurfacing. And he still, on occasion, mourned for her and took the time to rebury the pitiful amount of dust he’d clutched in his palm – even though he would’ve been within his right not to do so. Naraku never once acknowledged his involvement and took that secret to his grave. There had been speculation. In those final moments as a white light burst from within her, Kikyo had tried to explain what she believed was happening but it was drowned out by panicked screams…
Naraku had placed a bet, achieved what he believed was a victory and ultimately was defeated because there was no fury like a man who almost lost everything. On some level, Inuyasha knew what happened was entirely Naraku’s fault and it was his mission in life to prevent anything from happening to his love ever again. His friends though? Especially the slayer…
Hopefully, she could address any misunderstanding in the afterlife or someone else could do that for her. There were a surprising number of people here that had nothing but good things to say about the half-demon and his motley crew. People who were waiting to be reincarnated with those they left behind. A mother and father with brilliant green eyes and foxy grins. They’d told her of the hope to be made an intact family once more. A man and a woman whose features blended together to create the man she once loved. They spoke of wanting to make apologies and visit with their son. A entire throng of people moving en masse led by a strong middle aged man who was unusually kind. They wanted to move on as a unit and were missing three pieces. A strangely dressed, disturbingly young man who she’d met but once. Who had made a comment about how much she resembled his daughter and asked a little too knowingly if they’d ever had the chance to meet. Kikyo never gave him an answer.
There were men, women and children from across time in this place. All with various types of unfinished business. All waiting…watching…
Several individuals she’d encountered asked why she waited. Was she was waiting for someone? A lover? A friend? Who was it that she wanted to be tied to in her new life? So much so that she resisted the pull that the soul felt in anticipation of being reborn.
“My sister,” she would supply with a sad little smile - her hand absently rubbing her chest, “I’m waiting for my sister.”
The wish to be reborn and given a second chance to be with her sister was ultimately granted. A modern day miko was gifted a feisty little brother. Although it had not been her unfinished business when the time came around, being reunited with Inuyasha was the icing on the cake….
And in Kagome, Inuyasha found happiness.
Knowing that end result was more than enough to soothe whatever unfinished business might have still lingered on.

Inu-Mothership Spotlight Saturday: October 29, 2022: Sesshōmaru's Mother!
Hi everyone! We here at @inu-mothership are so excited to bring you our next Spotlight Saturday!
It's time to look at stories that feature our favorite sassy daiyōkai mother. We call her by many different names, since she doesn't have one in canon, but we know that she is Sesshōmaru's mother 💜
We've already featured her in several of our Spotlight Saturdays, as part of our TogKimi and TogIzaKimi ship rec lists, but today we feature Sesshōmaru's mother in rare pair and gen/non-main-ship stories, giving her a chance to shine! For the purposes of consistency across our rec lists, we're going with the name InuKimi for Sesshōmaru's mother.
Like our other character rec lists, we're starting with the stories where InuKimi is paired as the primary/secondary ship first, and then we'll list the fics that are either gen or where another ship is the primary ship, but feature InuKimi prominently. We hope you enjoy these stories!

Izayoi didn't die canon divergence-- feed my InuParents soul
I still need to work this out some more, but what I'm thinking so far is this:
The story picks up with Izayoi and Inuyasha leaving the castle that they lived in for all those years. Inuyasha was always an outcast and was picked on, but now that he is getting older, it is only getting more unbearable. Izayoi knew that Inuyasha wouldn't leave her and so she makes the decision to leave with him. They find a nice little secluded spot to turn into a home and live their lives in peace. It just so happens that they area they picked is near a small village with a Miko protecting a sacred jewel. At this point it follows a similar, but not the same, path as canon. I could see possibly breaking it into a series with the first part leading up to the betrayal and the second part starts with Kagome.
As you can see, this is still pretty early in the planning stage and is subject to change. I hope it sounds interesting, though, and thank you for the ask!

Forget Me Not 41-50
Read it on Ao3, Dokuga, or FFnet for daily updates!
Summary: Some memories fade with time, lured away by a passing breeze. Others are so ingrained in our hearts that we cling to them with every fibre of our being. To the point where it’s all we remember.
Inspiration: Forget Me Not by Marianas Trench
Schmooze
They watched in silence as his mother drew lines in the dirt, slowly adding sticks and rocks until an image of a castle emerged, floating on a bed of torn leaves.
"What happened?" Kagome whispered.
His mouth opened to respond, but a breeze dislodged some of his mother's drawing, and she instantly became agitated.
Sesshoumaru stepped forward, placing a hand on his mother's shoulder, and slowly led her back towards the citadel.
"Another time, miko." His eyes were focused and determined as he guided the older youkai forward. "You have my thanks."
Kagome nodded, not wanting to pry. How had someone so powerful been reduced to a mere shell of their former self?
Abeyance
A week went by without a sign of Sesshoumaru or his mother, and Kagome had started to go crazy long before that.
Had something happened? Were they alright? How was she supposed to help if she couldn't find them?
She was two seconds away from storming into his chambers, etiquette be damned, when he showed up on her balcony. Thankfully Tsubasa had completed her duties for the night—Kagome knew she wouldn't have questioned her lord but having to explain his sudden appearance would have been awkward, to say the least.
"How is she? How are you?" she babbled, instantly on her feet. "I've been so worried!"
Fractious
The look Sesshoumaru gave her was calculating.
"Are you always so concerned with creatures you have barely met?"
"Yes?" she said, unsure where the conversation was leading. "Is that bad?"
"I suppose not. For you." He didn't enter the room, and Kagome swore his youki felt anxious. "Do you still have the ribbon?"
She pulled it from her yukata, blushing when his eyebrow raised. "What? I told you I was worried."
"Indeed." Casting one last look towards her door, he extended his hand, a silent invitation.
She took it without hesitation, youki pooling under their feet and lifting them off the balcony.
Mollify
To Kagome's surprise, they flew away from the Shiro, passing over lakes and forests before landing at the base of a mountain. She opened her mouth to question it, but the sound of agitated whimpers stilled her tongue.
Sesshoumaru motioned towards a cave, the entrance hidden behind a shimmering barrier. She couldn't tell who had created it, just felt the soft brush of acceptance against her reiki as they passed through.
The sounds got worse, pottery shattering against stone, and they quickened their pace.
"I had thought a familiar place may help," he murmured, hands tucked into his sleeves. "Mother did not spend much time at the Shiro before…before."
Sagacious
The tunnel opened into a cavern, a hot spring tucked into one corner. Shards of terracotta and strips of silk littered the floor, his mother's arm raised to throw another when her eyes landed on Kagome.
The bowl was immediately dropped, golden gaze focusing before she flew into Kagome's arms, burying her face against her shoulder.
Kagome automatically stroked the youkai's hair, gently dislodging a few tangles, then gave Sesshoumaru a questioning look.
"It seems you made an impression, miko." Intrigue and relief leached into his aura as he picked up the larger pieces of broken pottery, clearing a path to the spring.
Darling
"Has she been like this since—"
"Hnn."
"But," Kagome looked down at the grown woman in her arms, "she seemed better when you left with her."
"She does not recognize me," he said, avoiding her gaze, "or anyone else. Save you."
His mother cupped Kagome's face, turning her head side to side, a frown tugging at her lips. Realizing what she was looking for, Kagome held up the ribbon, giving her a soft smile.
Dirty, delicate hands grabbed hold of it, and Kagome led her towards the spring, not bothering to remove their clothes as she coaxed her into the water.
"Let me do your hair this time, okay?"
Orientate
It was like a strange spa day.
After Sesshoumaru's mother, he said her name was Inukimi, styled her hair with the ribbon again, Kagome convinced her to sit down in the spring so she could return the favour.
It took close to an hour, as her hair was as long as Sesshoumaru's, but by the end, Inukimi's silver locks were washed, brushed, and braided.
She even let Sesshoumaru close enough to cut off some of the more complicated tangles.
"See? Doesn't that feel better?" Kagome crooned, wiping away the last of the dirt from her face.
Inukimi paused and brushed their cheeks together, though her eyes were still focused on the small pebble in her hands.
Conclave
"Are you going to keep her here?"
Sesshoumaru considered her question, eying his mother as she slept in Kagome's lap. "I do not know."
Kagome wanted to tease him—she'd never heard Sesshoumaru admit he was unsure about something before—but held her tongue at the forlorn expression that crinkled his brow.
"She's been staying in the western garden, right? That's why it was closed off to everyone else?"
He nodded, leaning closer to remove the cup from his mother's hands.
"Well, why don't we fix it up? It'll be easier to keep it in one piece now that she's not walking around in her true form. I could keep visiting her here until it was ready."
"You would do that?"
Ramshackle
The smile she gave him was reassuring, a balm to his wound-up nerves, and Kagome felt him relax.
"I did not want to assume," he said, leaning back against the cave wall. "She is uncooperative at the best of times."
"This is nothing," Kagome grinned, "you should've seen the tantrums my brother used to throw. The mess he made was way worse than this."
The ribbon in her hair seemed to keep Inukimi distracted during her bath, but Kagome could tell that the female youkai did not like being confined. The garden had been in disarray, but the gauges in the ground showed a fit of anger and frustration that went beyond a simple outburst.
Bloviate
Guilt gnawed at her when they left without saying goodbye, but Sesshoumaru assured her that the remnants of her scent and power around the cave would pacify his mother until she returned.
Neither of them understood why Inukimi felt a connection to her, but for the first time since she'd returned, Kagome felt a renewed sense of purpose.
"What kinds of things does she like?" she asked as they touched back down in her room.
Sesshoumaru gave her a questioning look, and she had to bite back her laughter at how much it youthened his features.
"Are there games she likes to play? A specific kind of tea she prefers? Does she have a favourite colour?"
